Hi, Kaz! I am a new Carat (Face the Sun was my first cb) and Seungcheol has had my attention from the very first clip I saw of Svt (Rock With You mv). Don't get me wrong. I think Seventeen is one of the most well-rounded groups in kpop but there's something about Coups that just makes me go feral every time I see him perform (his part in Cheers...wow). You are one of the best Caratblr on this hellsite. I have read some of your essays (and asks) and know that I can rely on you for an unbiased opinion. I know he is not your ult or even part of your bias line, but what are some things you like about S.Coups?
hi!!! first of all, hello and welcome! i hope you’re having a good time as a baby carat. isn’t it all so exciting? thank you so much! haha, i just try to answer the asks i get according to my best abilities but it’s most definitely fun. i love talking about seventeen. i’ve had like 5 hours of bad sleep, so bear with me.
so, scoups. i love him. i really do love him and i mean, how couldn’t i? how could anyone not love him? there are so many things about seungcheol that i love. first of all, he’s super handsome. an ode/fear seungcheol with the cropped black hair is something i return to all the time because i think it’s his best look ever. i just. love looking at a beautiful man and scoups is super charismatic on top, he really draws your eye in. i think that he is one of the best rappers in seventeen, second to only vernon; he’s got this massive swagger and coolness that isn’t easy to find and is honestly mind-boggling considering everything that he has to carry as the leader of the group.
he’s a great leader, one of the best in the business. i love that he has a bit of a mean streak (especially for dino), i love that he’s competitive and fierce because not only is that very entertaining to watch in gose but you can really see during songs like left & right, clap, or fear that he very much drives seventeen. he’s very caring, but you can tell that he comes from a family where he’s the youngest sibling (and in that regard, that dino as the maknae comes from a family where he’s the oldest. i love that about them and it’s another reason why i think seungcheol and dino are foils in this group).
he has been very transparent about his struggle with anxiety (more of that in his hit the road episode) and i really look up to him for that, as someone who’s been suffering from a general anxiety disorder for half my life. it is not easy to do what he does with the condition he has, especially as a a leader, and i applaud him for recognizing his limits and acting upon that. i really have so much respect for him as an artist, musician and as a person. he writes great songs, and his involvement in svt’s songwriting and production is second to only vernon and woozi. he’s very good at that.
also, i think whenever he steps to the mic mad as hell you know shit’s gonna be crazy fucking good. love that. he’s a leo through and through and maybe it’s my own leo rising, but i see a showman and i just adore it. my favorite performances of his are probably his part in 24H (i love how he dances that), his rap in fear and left & right, and about every hip hop unit stage because they’re just so cool.
ah, i think that’s about it for now! thank you so much!!

The Intern - 3
Andy Barber x Reader
Summary: Being Andy’s intern meant you got to spend more time by his side more than anyone. This was fine, however, until feelings got in the way and made things complicated
Word Count: 4114 (oh boy)
Warnings: SMUT, pure filth, age gap, technically cheating, swearing and all that jazz
A/N Contains spoilers from episodes 1-5.
Chapter 1   Chapter 2  Chapter 3   Chapter 4   Chapter 5
Tumblr media
Getting the day off wasn’t as hard as you thought it would be. Neal was busting his ass trying to prove Jacob was guilty and he wasn’t particularly fond of you, you knew if it had been up to him you would be sent packing the day Andy was forced to leave. So, when you approached him to get the day off, you didn’t even need to use the ‘family emergency’ card. In his eyes, you were just a disposable intern who had spent too much time with Andy fucking barber for his liking. You pursed your lips, not wanting to think of work as you waited for Andy’s black car to pick you up.
You looked around the silent neighbourhood, your small backpack sitting on the pavement next your feet. First rays of sun were illuminating the whole street with a soft light, the early morning chill wiping the last bits of sleep from your eyes. In the one time you had a proper chance to see Andy that past week, you had decided to drive up to Connecticut early Friday morning, careful not to get caught. The plan was to visit Andy’s father in prison, then hang out together before driving back home under the cover of the night. You were busy kicking a small rock and keeping yourself entertained when you spotted Andy’s car turning the corner.
“Hi baby girl.” Andy gave you one of those smiles you so loved seeing on his face, but you could still see the shadows lingering in his eyes.
“Hi.” You leaned in to peck him on the lips. Before you could pull back and get comfortable on your seat however, Andy pulled you back in with a hand sneaking down to your waist, holding you tight. His hot lips never leaving yours, he ran a hand down your back, as if to soothe down the shivers that were also caused by him. He loosened his grip ever so slightly as he moved to look at your face, a grin plastered on his face.
“What?” You questioned, yet your face mirrored his.
“I really like you is all.” Andy faintly remembered the excitement of a new relationship from almost sixteen years ago, everything seemed different and shiny in those first moments, but there was something else he didn’t quite recognize in his heart too. Something that made him believe everything would be okay as long as he had you by his side, despite everything.
“How do you not know this song? It’s impossible you don’t know.” Andy shook his head with a small laugh of disbelief escaping his lips.
“Alright old man, I’m picking the next song.” You stuck your tongue out at him thinking he wouldn’t see it as he focused on driving, you were wrong. You yelped in surprise when Andy reached out and flicked your nose without even looking at you, the corners of his eyes crinkled with a rare, completely genuine smile.
It was so easy to laugh and forget about everything clouding over your heads as you drove further away from Newton, and ignoring the end of your destination, it was a much-needed change of pace.
“Let’s do this again sometime. I know it’s hard with how things are now, but in the future.” You watched the scenery roll by with occasional stolen glances at the man sitting next to you.
“Do what, baby girl?”
“Take a road trip. Leave Newton and our jobs, our labels for a while. Go someplace where you are not a married man and I’m not your intern.” You sighed.
“As you wish.” He looked at you for a second before turning his attention back to the road. “I know how much things suck right now, but I promise you, it will all end soon. We will get Jake off the hook; we’ll finally get the divorce that should’ve happened year ago and… We’ll be alright.” His right hand found yours over the console, gripping tightly.
“I trust you.” After a year of working together night and day, you knew that when Andy Barber made a promise, he made sure to keep his word. So, you knew, eventually, you would be alright.
After one stop to get some gas and morning snacks, your car rolled into the facility in the middle of the lush greenery. The closer Andy got to facing his father he had tried his whole life to distance himself from, he grew quiet. He would still give you small smiles with the corner of his mouth or engage in whatever conversation you started to help him relax, his joyful mood from earlier was gone.
“For Jake,” he had muttered more to himself than you, reminding himself why he couldn’t turn the car back around and drive as far as he could, away from the dreaded conversation. He placed a lingering kiss on your forehead before heading inside the building, in the manner of a silent thank you.
You were messing around with your phone maybe for fifteen minutes when Andy’s sulking figure made its way towards the car, he shook his head negatively when your eyes met, and that was all you needed to know your little mission had failed. You drove back the road you came in silence, the only sound being the low humming of the car engine.
“Fucking asshole.” Andy filled you in before digging into the burger sitting in front of him. It was a classic off the road diner, the kind frequented by the tired drivers at all kinds of odd hours.
“I can’t believe he refused. He sounds like a real piece of shit. Even without the whole murder thing, I mean.”
Andy snorted. “That’s one way to put it. We’ll simply have to skip it.”
“You know Neal will bring it up in trial and try to use it.” You reminded him, that was what you would do had the case been different.
“It’s bullshit.” You stuffed your face with the side of fries as you nodded in agreement. It was complete bullshit, and you could feel the frustration of a parent radiating from across you.
“Do you wanna spend the night here? I really don’t want to go back and deal with Lau- I mean, I don’t wanna deal with this tonight.” You looked up in surprise. Seeing right through him even with him trying to play it cool, it was obvious him and Laurie would get into another fight over this. Your heart sped up at the thought of spending the night together, away from all the things keeping you apart.
“I would like that very much.”  Your knees touched under the table, your gazes locked, both feeling the electric contact and not making any move to break it.
Twenty minutes of driving around was all it took before you stumbled on a small town, where you spent the rest of the afternoon together. Hand in hand, feeling more free than you had in weeks, you walked through the town. It was a great feeling, being able to be a couple out in the public without everyone knowing who you were and looking at you with judgement in their eyes. You looked at Andy, golden hair shining under the sun that peeked behind the clouds, and for a moment you were reminded of a time without his son’s future in the line. It was a selfish thought, but you didn’t want to go back. With his arm around you, holding you secure to his chest, you were content.
After a rather quick and clipped call to Laurie and an excuse of car trouble, you made your way towards the motel on the outskirts of the town. It wasn’t the best-looking motel, it was definitely not where Andy had originally wanted to bring you to, however it seemed to be only option. So, the two floored motel with its orange painting chipped at parts would have to do. That, sleeping in the car or worse, going back to Newton were your only choices, and you both were fast to agree on the first option.
“A room for two, please.” Andy reached into the pocket of his dark coat to grab his wallet. Knowing the stubborn nature of his, you made no protest to pay although you weren’t too happy. The girl who didn’t look older than twenty looked up from behind the reception desk and eyed you up.
“Name?”
“Andy Barber.” She nodded, typing fast on the keyboard before reaching back for the wall of keys.
“Here you go, Mr. and Mrs. Barber. Room 204.” The girl turned back to her phone after sliding the key towards Andy.
“We-” You began, startled at the assumption although a part of you gushed at the name, but stopped at the shaking of Andy’s head. He couldn’t contain his laughter much more as he led you up to your room for the night, the sound was contagious. You noticed this was the first time he had laughed like that in what felt like a forever, you couldn’t help but join him.
The room was what you expected, the crème coloured walls almost looking yellow due to the lamps sitting on each side of the bed. The bed, occupying most of the small room was covered with pink and blue flower design bedding that looked like it was left there during the 80s.
“I’ll go wash up.” Andy muttered before heading into the bathroom, you dropped your backpack on the floor next to the night stand. You removed your coat, and then your sweatshirt, suddenly feeling too hot despite the room’s temperature being on the cool side. No, it wasn’t the weather itself, you mused as you eyed the bed, but rather the fact that for the first time, you had the whole night alone with Andy Barber. Not a stolen moment, afraid of getting caught. Here, you were just Y/N and Andy. You could do anything you wanted without a single worry on your minds. You gingerly sat on the bed, fiddling with the end of your tank top.
Andy stepped out of the bathroom a moment later, stopping right at the door upon seeing you. He eyed you up and down, so very slow you felt his gaze burn through you, a smirk spreading over his lips. You gulped quietly, but not breaking the stare.
“Waiting for me?” he asked, and two long strides later he was right in front of you. He placed a finger underneath your chin to tilt your head and make you look up to him.
“Maybe.” You drawled, the tips of your fingers tracing his thigh up and down.
With a hiss Andy leaned down, his lips crashing onto yours in a way you never were kissed before. His large hands cupped your ass as he scooted you to the middle of the bed, not breaking the heated kiss. You moaned when your back met the surprisingly soft mattress but it was muffled with his warm lips never leaving yours, and Andy was on top of you in a matter of seconds. More and more and more was all you could think of, hands roaming on his broad back wildly in a desperate effort to pull him closer than he already was.
You wanted to feel his skin under your hands, run them through his toned muscles and get rid of all the unnecessary layers between you, Andy knew what you wanted as you tugged the hem of his shirt.  You took in a deep breath when he pulled back only for a second to throw his shirt to a corner of the room, your eyes wandered on his abs and strong arms, he looked down at you with the same hunger in his eyes. You looped a finger around the waist of his jeans, tugging them down with hurried movements and fumbling hands, aching to have all of him. He chuckled at you before slipping his jeans off and sending them to accompany his shirt, now all that was left was his boxers and the silver necklace he always had on him. You bit your lips at the sight in front of you, gently running a hand down his length.
A breathy sound escaped Andy’s lips and they were back on yours, with a quick move Andy swapped your positions. Now, you leaned down to kiss him with your hands going down to unbutton your jeans, the need of getting closer and feel him against your skin almost driving you crazy. You followed suit and slid them off along with your tank top, left only in your lace bra and matching panties. Even though this night was quite spontaneous, you were secretly hoping for such a night and patted yourself on the back mentally for coming prepared.
“Shit, baby girl, you drive me crazy.” Andy ran a hand down the side of your body, stopping on your thighs. You shivered at his touch; Andy pulled you closer to his chest once again. Sitting on his lap, you shifted as you felt him press against you, rock hard. His hands were everywhere, exploring and marking his way as they ran through your hair, your back, the length of your legs… You couldn’t decide if this was pure torture or the best feeling in the world. Maybe a little bit of both.
You got up and lay on your back in the middle, pulling Andy in by the waistband of his boxers, almost begging to be pushed down. He supported himself above you on his elbows, leaving sloppy, wet and warm kisses down the trail of your neck.
“These,” he whispered against the warmth of your skin between kisses, “have to go.” In one swift moment your bra was gone. He placed a kiss to the curve of your breast, so close you felt his hot breath hit your nipples already hard with pleasure. You threw your head back with a whimper as his tongue teased and toyed with you, getting so close before wandering down your stomach.
With each kiss he went lower and lower, but never reaching the one place you wanted him the most. Before long you were a mess under him, with his tickling lips and wandering hands you prayed you would survive the night.
“Andy, please,” another whimper left you as lips connected with the inner parts of your soft thighs, dangerously close.
“That’s right baby girl, tell me what you need.” You felt his smirk on your skin.
“I need, I,” you sighed feeling his fingers toy with the band of your panties, “I need you.”
“Tell me how, and you have me sweetheart. I’m right here.”
“I need you in me, please, Andy,” You shut your eyes, unable to stop the curling of your toes as he ran a finger down your slit, still not making any move to remove the final layers between you. He enjoyed teasing you, seeing you moan and whimper completely begging for his touch was something he never knew how much he needed.
His rough hands finally tugged down the last piece of cloth covering you, leaving you utterly bare and under his control in front of him. Andy felt himself twitch, unable to keep teasing you as the urge to have you took over him.
You opened your eyes to see what he was doing, and the sight you met with almost made you gasp. There he was, fully naked; your eyes trailed down his pecks to his abs, and then to his cock. Standing proud and hard, you took in his length and girth with a hunger in your eyes.
“I need you. Now.” You reached your hand towards him, eager to pull him close and hopefully never let go.
“As you wish.” He lowered himself down, giving you a long kiss as a hand slipped between your legs. You shuddered at the tease of his hand, feeling him play with your clit send electric waves through your whole body. A finger slid in you, then another one, picking up the pace until Andy was satisfied with the wetness dripping down his hand. Placing a soft kiss on your knee he pushed them open, positioning himself before you. He ran his wet fingers down his shaft and his tip, lathering himself well.
Another soft moan escaped your lips as you felt his tip tease your entrance mercilessly, just wanting to feel Andy fill you already.
“Ready?” He asked, you found yourself unable to form words in that moment of euphoria so you just nodded.
Seeing you under him, already a mess for him, Andy swallowed. He took one moment to look you up and down, wanting to burn this moment well into his memory and never forget it. In that moment, he was overcome with such desire, such passion that with a grunt he pushed himself in. Any small thought of protection flew from his mind upon that feeling, leaving no trace behind as all he could think was how good it felt to be in you.
“Fuck.” He moaned and pushed a little bit more inside you. A part of him wanted to fuck you senseless then and there, but the less animalistic and more caring part of him scanned your face for any sign of discomfort. It was a tight fit already and Andy feared hurting you, damn the passion blinding him.
“I’m good,” you breathed out, noticing his peering gaze. You ran a hand down his thigh. “More.”
Andy happily obliged, slowly pushing all of his length in with a grunt deep in his throat.
“You feel so fucking good. Such a good girl you are, Y/N.” He lowered his body down on his elbows to give you a kiss. You felt his tongue push in, penetrating and filling your mouth just as you felt his cock pulse in you. He pulled back ever so slightly, pushing a strand of hair fallen on your forehead.
He started moving slowly at first, allowing you get comfortable with him. Even though you claimed you were okay, Andy planned on using the precious alone time you had as well as he could, so your comfort was of upmost importance for him to execute his plans.
Andy picked up his pace, pulling out almost completely before slamming back into you, each time sending waves of pleasure crash through you as your moans synchronized with his moves. Your legs wrapped around his waist, pulling him closer and deeper as the wet sound and your whimpers mixed with his grunts and the occasional ‘fuck’ that slipped between his lips and onto your skin. Your nails left hot red marks down his back, sending Andy into a whole new level of frenzy.
You couldn’t resist the orgasm threatening to rock through you any longer, you gave in to the feeling as you arched your back, all kinds of incoherent sounds and words glided out of your lips. Feeling you tighten around him and the sweet sounds you made underneath him made Andy shiver as he slammed into you time and time, the rocking of hips becoming sloppier and rougher with each time.
One of your hands pulled at his hair, the other wrapped tightly around his shoulder, your body shook to his rhythm. His trail of wet kisses down your breasts and the teasing tongue left you purring against him, never wanting this night to come to a stop.
Andy swore under his breath as he pulled out, you drew inhaled sharply at the sudden emptiness, disappointed and needing much more of him. He gave you a look as if to say ‘I know’ before pulling you up and on top of him as he now lay in the position you were in mere seconds ago. You purred against him, peppering kisses on his face, your fingers playing with his tip.
“How does it feel to be teased, Mr. Barber?” Your hand gripped one of his balls, satisfied with the moan you got in response.
“Fuck, ride me, baby girl, come on.” He swallowed once. Twice.
You positioned yourself, hoovering just above his tip, originally wanting to tease him longer but couldn’t resist the urge to lower yourself down and feel him fill you up once more. Slowly you guided yourself down on his shaft, mouth open as you did so, Andy’s hands cupping your ass and helping you.
Soon you were fucking yourself on him, Andy’s fingers gripping you so tightly you were sure it would leave a mark. You didn’t care.
The downright sinful sounds coming from Andy fueled you to pick up your pace, chasing your orgasm. The eagerness of making Andy cum and please him like the good girl he called you was a close second in terms of motivation.
“Are you tired, huh?” Andy managed to let out, grabbing your ass to push you up and down on him. He pulled you under, kneeling as he kept pushing in and out with his hands holding your knees.
“Shit sweetheart.” His sigh echoed as stars began flying in front of your eyes, hot white pleasure claiming you for the second time, you winced when Andy pulled out sharply, stroking himself and shuddering as he finally reached his own release, white thick ropes of cum splattering on your breasts and stomach.
He looked at you with sparks in his eyes, a dumb grin on his handsome face, you chuckled at his expression. A gentle hand reached out, caressing your cheek with a look full of adoration. No words were needed as you hastily cleaned up yourselves, wanting to go back to one another’s arms without any more delays. You had waited long enough.
You lay your head on his chest as a strong arm wrapped around your waist and pulled you close, his second hand running through your hair with soft strokes. Your hand lay on his chest too, right above his heart, a tired smile danced on your face as you felt the steady beat of his heart.
Andy looked down slightly at your face, at the happiness he could so easily read, and felt his heart tug with emotion. You were here, in his arms, and he felt so damn lucky.
His.
Andy smiled.
When was the last time he allowed himself to be this happy? Sure, he was happy when he won a case, though it always was shadowed because of the long and exhausting hours he pulled. He was happy at his home, with his family, but the problems of his marriage ran deep and even though he loved Jake with all of his heart, he couldn’t deny the fact that sometimes he dreaded to go home. But now, here, in this moment his heart swell with pure joy and affection towards the young woman he held in his arms. He couldn’t believe it. He used to think maybe he had done something to piss universe off. That’s why things never fully looked up for him.
Maybe the universe wasn’t so bad after all.
“Thank you.” He muttered in a quiet voice, his fingers drawing shapes on your arm.
“For what?” You raised your head slightly to face him. You caught your breath at the sudden closeness, and the way his eyes looked like deep pools of blue you wanted to dive in.
“For everything. For being by my side, I guess. You have no idea how much you mean to me.”
“If it’s anything like how I feel for you, I think I have some idea.” You leaned in to share a slow kiss, unlike those of passion some time ago, this one stirred the deepest of emotions within you. A promise, it was.
You talked of all kinds of things in that embrace, with hushed voices not caused by fear or getting caught, but caused by the level of intimacy. In that moment, where limbs were entangled and pressed together under the god-awful floral print you both laughed about, you didn’t even need words.
You weren’t exactly sure when you fell asleep with your head still resting on Andy’s chest, but you knew when you woke up. You blinked as your eyes adjusted to the dark room, head snapping towards Andy upon the sound hitting your ears. It was faint, sounded like muttering and whimpering, you searched the face of the man laying beside you when it hit you: he was having a nightmare.
“Hey, Andy,” you called out his name softly, “come on, love.” You coaxed him out of sleep, gently running a hand through his hair in the hopes of calming him down. His eyes snapped open with a small gasp, eyes looking around in fear for a split second.
“It’s me,” you got his attention, hard breathing of his chest calming down with your touch, “I got you.”
“Oh, Y/N.” He exhaled slowly, closing his eyes. You pulled him close this time, resting his head on your chest as you hugged him, dropping kisses on his head, along his hairline, on the creases that made home above his eyebrows. Just as you thought Andy was back asleep because of his steady breath, he spoke.
“It’s my father.” Was all he needed to say, and you understood him, understood how hard it was for him to open up about the very thing he escaped from confronting his whole life.
“I know, sweetheart. I got you.” You muttered again and again, determined to make him believe and know that you meant what you said. His arms tightened around your waist as you closed your eyes, hand still combing through his soft hair. Neither asleep, you laid there until the first streaks of sun began to invade the room, reminding you both the dreaded car drive back to Newton was closer than you liked. You pushed that thought to the furthest corner of your mind as you turned your focus on the man between your arms, and let sleep wash over you like a cold blanket.

Masterlist
Pairing: Jensen x foster daughter!reader (with TJ)
Word Count: 10,300ish (whoops)
Warnings: language, little implied smut
A/N: Takes place approximately 2 years after the end of A Place To Call Home and after the reader has finished college...
“Hey guys,” asked your dad quietly, skirting back from first class squatting down in the aisle, looking at both you and TJ. “How’s it going back here?”
“Arrow stole my window seat and Zeppelin insisted TJ watch Transformers with him so...lovely,” you said, shaking your head at TJ who was sandwiched between Zepp and Shep across the aisle.
“Mom and I and the other guys really appreciate you two watching the little guys on the flights for us,” said Jensen, giving you a smile. “So much so we figure before you two go insane back here, we’d let you know that the villa we’re staying in has a separate cottage. We thought maybe you and TJ would want to maybe take that for-”
“Yup,” you said nodding your head. “This is the best flight ever. We’ll even watch ‘em on the way home, won’t we TJ?”
“Yes. A million times yes,” he said with a fast nod, your dad chuckling.
“Didn’t think you two would mind a little privacy,” he said, giving you a smile and raising an eyebrow at TJ. “Appropriate privacy.”
“Of course,” he said. You shook your head, scratching the back of it when your dad looked back to you. He rolled his eyes and smiled as he stood up.
“Alright, we’ll see you guys in a few hours,” he said. “Have fun sibling sitting.”
“Do we have all of ‘em?” asked Jared, yawning as your parents grabbed the rental cars at the airport. “How many kids are there? I forget.”
“Six small, two large,” said Gen. “So, eight total.”
“We’re graduated from college and we still fall in the kids category?” you asked, waving you to you and TJ.
“I think one of the large children is acting up again,” teased Jared.
“I put Jared and Jensen in the large children category, hun,” said Gen, giving Jared a smirk. “Still debating on TJ at the moment although he’s more mature than those two put together.”
“Come to the dark side, TJ. It’s fun here,” said Jared with a nod, watching you scowl at him.
“Yeah but Jensen…you know...” said TJ.
“Fair point,” said Jared, corralling Odette when she started to wander off. “Everyone under 6’ 5” must stay in a ten foot vicinity at all times at the airport, Ms. Odette.”
“Dad, it’s pretty outside,” she grumbled, waving her arms around. “I wanna play. Please?”
“As soon as Uncle Jensen and Aunt De get the cars, we are going to the resort and we can play,” he said. “Promise.”
“So, right now,” said your dad, handing a set of keys to Jared and one to TJ. “Small kids with your parents, luggage goes with the big kids.”
You saw Tom and JJ look at one another, Jensen rolling his eyes.
“Over twenty is a big kid today, kiddos,” he said.
“But I’m ten and Tom’s eleven,” said JJ. “Double digits.”
“It’s cool if they ride with us,” said TJ. “Really.”
“Alright, alright. Let’s just get there so we can relax for minute,” he said.
“Awesome,” you said, TJ smirking the whole time as you put your luggage into the back of the open top jeep, JJ and Tom practically bouncing out of their seats.
“Alright, buckle up and we will be there in about half an hour,” said TJ.
“You two good back there?” you asked. You got hums and a pair of thumbs up, TJ laughing as he pulled your sunglasses down over your face. “Well let’s get going. I am so driving this next time we go out by the way.”
“Might have to fight me for it,” teased TJ. It didn’t take long to get away from the airport and start to smell the ocean in the air and feel the sun on your skin. It hadn’t been hard for your dad to convince you to take this year’s big vacation to the caribbean after last year’s fiasco. It had been his choice to try camping and after one night of roughing it with three bouts of stomach bugs later, you packed up and checked into a hotel not too far down the road and spent the rest of the two weeks relaxing with a nice room to come back to at the end of the day.
Unfortunately TJ hadn’t been able to get the time off with his internship to come with you but now he was working at the firm under the guy that had ironically designed your parents house, and they were very flexible with time off.
“I’m so glad my parents said yes that you could come this year,” you said, glancing over at him as he drove, his left arm hanging on the edge of doorsill, a warm breeze in the air carrying a pretty scent through it.
“I’m glad they invited me,” he said with a smile.
“They invited you?” you asked. “I invited you.”
“Oh. I remember your dad asking me if I wanted to come like a week before you did. I was away for spring break at my parents and he called me up,” he said. “I figured you were excited and wanted to talk about it in person was all.”
“I talked to them about it after...they invited you...now I’m suspicious,” you said, peering over your shoulder at the SUV behind you your dad was driving.
“I’m sure they just wanted to know for planning rooms and stuff,” he said.
“Or he could like...be planning to murder you in foreign country,” you said.
“Seriously?” said TJ. “Your little sister and like cousin are in the car.”
“We watch lifetime movies when Y/N babysits,” said Tom.
“She’s got a point, TJ. The perfect crime,” said JJ.
“These children are going to be vandals when they grow up thanks to you,” said TJ, shaking his head with a smile. “What else does Y/N have you guys watch?”
“I let ‘em watch Supernatural sometimes,” you said, TJ’s jaw dropping. “So what if the rule was like thirteen? They can watch some stuff. Like bloody mary. Ain’t that right JJ? You loved that one.”
You spun around with a smirk, JJ shaking her head, Tom rolling his eyes.
“Or like hookman,” you said, his head dropping back. You laughed and TJ started to giggle.
“Vandals and traumatizing them. Best big sister ever there,” he teased.
“Dude, that stuff’s in the handbook,” you said, reaching back and ruffling both their heads. “They know I love ‘em. It’s our little secret.”
“What about like...the stuff that’s a little more...grown up?” asked TJ.
“No. No. That’s why you watch the show ahead of me now. I can not have another Jared and Gen season 4 couch incident,” you said, shaking yourself out. “Seeing dad was bad enough but that was full on…”
“What?” asked Tom.
“It’s an episode you’ll never see and for good reason,” you said. “You’ll thank me someday.”
“Hey, you know what? You guys are pretty lucky to have Y/N. I’m an only kid. I would have loved having a big brother or sister around. It can get pretty lonely,” said TJ.
“But now you got us!” said JJ. TJ laughed and agreed with her but you only bit your bottom lip. You didn’t realize you were still smiling when you got to the resort, your dad grinning at you when he saw your face.
“Somebody looks like they’re in love,” he said, Arrow taking off with your mom ahead of him.
“Yeah,” you said, grabbing you bag from the back, helping JJ with hers before you gave her a hug. “Pretty awesome little sis right here.”
He was quick to take a picture of you two, nudging you to hold back once everyone started heading inside.
“You okay?” he asked.
“Yeah. We were just talking in the car and TJ was talking about siblings and how the kids are lucky to have them and she made a comment like TJ’s part of our family so he’s got ‘em too. I don’t know. I’m…” you said. “Why’d you invite him on vacation?”
“It was a family vacation,” he said. “He’s part of the family.”
“Really?” you asked, your dad nodding with a smile.
“You’ve been best friends with the guy for four years, you’ve been dating for two and he comes over for dinner like six days a week. I think it’s okay if we call him part of the family at this point,” he said. You smiled, getting one in return. “I assumed you wanted him to come.”
“Oh, I did,” you said. “S’nice that you invited him is all.”
“I know. I’m also not going to murder him because yes, I watched that lifetime movie too,” he said.
“Well good cause then it’d be a whole thing to deal with..” you said, getting a chuckle from him.
“It’s why we act and make beer in this family. Whole lot easier,” he teased, tilting his head at you. “Speaking of making beer, mom says she’s creating a new position at the brewery. Full time, Monday to Friday. Someone to help with the business and design side of things, run social media. It comes with benefits, pretty kick ass salary, very flexible time off…”
“I told mom I’m taking it,” you said. “A big part of my duties will also be designing the farmhouse for the new restaurant and getting that up to code. I get to use that degree for something after all looks like.”
“You’re going to be a boss, not just a beer server anymore. You want that?” he asked. “You’ll be making decisions with all the owners.”
“It’s sort of called The Family Business so it makes sense that family runs it,” you said. “I want this.”
“Oh my...it only took you like five years to get that the plan was for the kids to run it someday,” he said with a laugh. “Whew. We were getting nervous for a minute there.”
“You guys were waiting for me to ask about a job?” you said. He shrugged, giving you a smirk.
“There’s always been a job there for you. Duh. Of course we were waiting for you to ask,” he said.
“You two are partially evil you know,” you said.
“But we’re nice evil, kiddo,” he said, giving you a hug, getting a strange look from a guy walking by. “Come on, let’s go be weird inside.”
“I don’t know if it’s possible for you to not be weird that long. You might actually combust from restraining yourself,” you said, smiling at him.
“I learned it from watching you, tall munchkin,” he said. You rolled your eyes and headed inside, handing over your bags to someone before everyone was being led off to your own private corner of the resort.
You parents and the Padaleckis thanked the people that brought your bags, you and TJ watching the kids take off to explore the villa.
“Guys, guys,” said your mom, Gen whistling before they got too far. “You three boys are sharing a room on the right. You three girls are right next door to them. Tom, JJ, us adults will be upstairs, Pads on the left, Ackles on the right. Any problems, come get any one of us, okay?”
“Where are TJ and Y/N going to sleep?” asked Arrow.
“Backyard,” said your dad. The kids scrunched up their faces, Jared nodding. “I know, sucks for them. But they’ll just be sleeping out there so during the day, those guys are still in charge too. Okay now take off you scoundrels. And no going near the pool or the beach without an adult out there.”
All six pairs of heads nodded before they were gone to their rooms and you were tugging TJ outside. You hummed as you both spotted the short path to the cottage off to the side.
“It looks beautiful,” you said, both of you wide eyed as you entered. There was a small kitchen and sitting room in the front of the house, and a huge bathroom and  bedroom with a perfect oceanfront view in the back, your bags already inside. “Wow.”
You stepped outside onto the small deck out there, looking around and seeing nothing but beach.
“This is so private. Isn’t it gorgeous?” you asked, looking back over your shoulder.
“It is,” he said, a hint of pink on his cheeks.
“Are you blushing TJ?” you teased.
“You should see how beautiful you are,” he said, smirking as he stepped out beside you. “That’s a very pretty sundress for a girl that doesn’t like dresses.”
“It’s the caribbean,” you shrugged, TJ humming as he wrapped his arms around you, resting his head on your shoulder as you both stared out. “Want to go swimming?”
“Mmm, for sure,” he said, kissing your cheek before he pulled back. You went inside, digging through your bags for your swim gear, TJ with swim trunks in hand when there was a knock at the door. “Come in.”
“Hey,” said your dad, raising an eyebrow when he walked inside to the bedroom. “Wow, this place is nice. Just wanted to let you guys know we were thinking be ready to go for dinner at six? Little formal, not too formal. You probably need a dress shirt or polo TJ, a dress or nice shirt for you, honey.”
“Sounds good. We were going to go for a quick swim,” you said.
“Alright. Be safe. I think that’s the plan for us too. Oh and try not to spend all your time tucked away in here,” he teased, glancing at you and then your open suitcase. You kicked it shut, turning and looking at a picture on the wall when you saw him realize what he’d seen.
“Isn’t that a great picture?” you said. “That’s a great-”
“It’s a box of condoms. Guess what? You’re not the only one to pack some,” he said. You closed your eyes and shook your head, a loud laughing echoing from him. “Well I know where to come if I run out.”
“Sorry, I think...nope I definitely hear mom calling me right now,” you said, grabbing your phone. “I should totally take this and get away from here asap.”
“Oh so you don’t want to hear that you guys can order whatever you want for room service from here? Like we're paying for everything?” he teased.
“...Continue,” you said.
“Don’t blow our retirement fund but you guys want some wine, late night dinner, go for it. You’re both responsible,” he said. “Okay? Have fun on your swim guys.”
“Alright,” you said, your dad pausing on his way out, turning to TJ before he shook his head, biting back his comment.
“I need a beer,” he sighed. “Six sharp for dinner you two.”
“Gotcha,” you said, groaning when he left. “Oh my god. Never answer the door again.”
“I’m okay with that,” he said, peeling off of his short sleeve henley and shorts, shimmying out of his boxer briefs as he started to pull on his swim trunks.
“Remember the first time we were naked in front of each other?” you asked, leaning against the wall as he pulled up the shorts.
“Yes. I remember a whole lot of avoided eye contact and awkwardness and then I actually looked at you and thought, fuck she is smokin’ hot and beautiful? How’d I land this girl?” he said, walking over, peeling the straps off your dress until it slid off your body.
“You were always hot...then you got all muscly,” you said, patting his arm with a smirk as you grabbed your bikini and started to change.
“Well you do have a thing for big arms apparently,” he teased.
“True. I got a thing for sweet boys too,” you said, spinning around and showing your back to him. “Tie me up?”
“Y/N, you scoundrel,” he fake scoffed as you smacked his chest. He tied the strings together across your back and behind your neck, brushing your hair behind your ear when you spun around. “I love you, dork.”
“I love you, dork,” you said, giving him a peck on the nose.
“No nightmares last night?” he asked. You shook your head, TJ smiling wide. “S’been awhile since you had one. Must be a new record.”
“It is,” you said, resting your head on his chest. “Been feeling pretty good since that meltdown at finals week. I feel...safe.”
“I wouldn’t let anyone hurt you,” he said. You giggled and looked up at him. “S’why I got big and strong you know.”
You raised an eyebrow, TJ shrugging.
“Seriously? I thought you were trying to impress my dad or something which you totally don’t have to. He loves you,” you said.
“I like knowing I make you feel safe,” he said. “I like knowing I can keep you safe if I have to and are you blushing Y/N Ackles?”
“Shut up,” you laughed, grabbing his hand. “Come on, let’s go check out that pool.”
“Honey?” asked your mom from her chair by the pool, TJ showing Zepp how to flip into the water along with your dad at the other end. “Did TJ start working out more recently?”
“Your boyfriend’s like hot, Y/N,” said Gen, your mom whacking her arm. “What? He is! I remember him being smaller.”
“He joined crossfit about six months ago,” you said. “I tease him about being a jock now.”
“I guess we’ll have to see if JJ follows in tradition of choosing a man that goes smaller to strong,” joked Gen. “Always sweet though.”
“She probably will,” said your mom. “I think we got a few more years before boys come into the picture. Let ‘em enjoy being kids.”
Gen hummed and stood up with a stretch.
“True. So glad I got a while before Odette’s dealing with that. It’s getting late. We better get ready,” she said.
“Why don’t you wear that white dress with the little bowtie front?” asked your mom as she stood up. “That’s plenty pretty for the restaurant. I think TJ will like it.”
“He likes everything I wear,” you said. “Like everything.”
“They normally do,” she said. “We’ll meet you out front, okay?”
“Okay. We’ll be there.”
You gave TJ a smile at the table, looking him up and down in his white dress shirt and khaki shorts. You were vaguely listening to the conversation your parents were having, the kids seemingly passed out for the most part after the day of travel.
“I don’t think they’re listening to us,” you heard, your head whipping around, TJ’s doing the same. You saw four pairs of smiles as they were standing up. “We’re going to head back to the house guys.”
“Alright,” you said, some of the kids getting treated to rides back on the walk, Arrow walking over to TJ with a smile.
“You want a ride, pipsqueak?” he asked, bending down and scooping her up. “Did you like dinner?”
“Yeah,” she yawned. “You smell good.”
“It’s cologne,” he said.
“Daddy wears that sometimes,” she said, resting her head on his shoulder as you took his other hand and started the walk back. “TJ?”
“Mhm?”
“Can we build a sandcastle tomorrow?” she asked.
“Sure,” he said. She nodded and started to snore after a minute, TJ chuckling quietly.
“It seems you have a way with the Ackles women,” you said.
“Oh yes. You all fall asleep on me,” he said. “It was a long day for a seven year old.”
“Thanks for carrying her,” you said.
“S’no problem.”
“Thanks guys,” said your dad after you dropped off Arrow in her room. “We were going to have a drink by the pool if you want to join us.”
“Sure,” you said when TJ nodded. “I want to put on something warmer first.”
“No rush,” he said.
The second you sat down on the bed to take off your sandals though, you groaned, TJ doing the same.
“Sleep?” you asked.
“Sleep,” he said.
You grabbed your phone and texted your dad, tucking yourself into TJ’s side before he could even respond.
“Morning,” hummed TJ when you stirred awake. You stretched out, sighing into the sheets. “This bed is amazing.”
“I know,” you said, rolling over to catch the clock. “It’s already ten. We should probably get up.”
“Tomorrow we should get breakfast in bed,” he said.
“I like that plan,” you said. “Let’s go grab something from the resort and then we can head down to the beach.”
“Alright, alright,” said your dad, bending over and putting his hands on his knees. “Dad needs a break.”
“What are you, old, Ackles?” teased Jared, kicking around the soccer ball more with you and JJ.
“Yes and I’m not twisting my ankle two days into this thing,” he said with a huff. “Beer break.”
“I’ll take one of those,” you said.
“Beer, beer, lemonade,” said Jared, pointing at JJ, getting a nod. “Hey, Gen, De! What do you guys want for drinks?”
“We’re a delivery service now?” said your dad.
“Can I get a mojito?” asked your mom.
“I’ll have one too!” said Gen, Odette asking for grape juice.
“Let’s go find a waiter,” asked your dad. You headed more towards the resort area and eventually found one, getting everyone’s orders in as they said they’d send them over for you. You and your dad took a break at the resort bar in the air conditioning, glad to be out of the sun for a minute.
“JJ’s getting good at her dribbling, better than me now,” you said.
“I know. I could handle when you were better but the ten year old kicking my ass makes me question the old man comments,” he said.
“You’re barely 46, dad,” you said.
“Hot 46,” said a pair of women that walked past, giving him a wave.
“I think I threw up in my mouth a little,” you said.
“Hey, I’m hot 46,” he said with a smirk, puffing his chest out.
“You’re something alright,” you said, laughing when the fruitiest and brightest pink drink you’d ever seen was sat down in front of your dad.
“Courtesy Mr. Hanover,” said a waiter appearing from nowhere, a double of whiskey set down in front of you. The waiter questioned himself but you took the whiskey, smiling at your dad as the waiter left.
“Careful. I think TJ might like you,” you teased.
“Hey, mine came with a little umbrella,” he said, plucking it out and sticking it in your hair. “You guys crashed before us last night.”
“We were tired. Mom mentioned bonfire tonight?” you asked.
“Mhm,” he hummed, sucking on the straw until you saw half of it gone in ten seconds. You grabbed it away and asked for some water for him. “Hey, I’m thirsty.”
“What are you? Freshman on her first spring break? That thing has so much alcohol in it,” you said.
“Tastes like kool aid to me,” he said, taking a sip of the water, reaching for his drink again when you pulled it away.
“Do I have to have the talk with you?” you asked. “Pace yourself?”
“To use your words from that conversation, I won’t let the boys take advantage of me,” he deadpanned, cocking his head as wiped the sweat off your face. “So how’s Mr. TJ enjoying himself?”
“He’s good. I think he’s a little awestruck. He forgets we…” you shrugged.
“Have money? Well that’s because we don’t give you guys everything you want,” he said. “And you hate shopping thank god.”
“You gave me what I wanted,” you said, taking a sip of the pink drink, catching the soft smile on his face.
“We could live in a cardboard box and you’d be happy kiddo. You got different wants than most well off twenty somethings,” he said.
“I know,” you said, swinging your feet off the end of the bar stool, one of your flip flops falling off.
“Proud of you,” he said with a smile.
“What’d I do?”
“Just proud of you is all,” he said with a shrug. “You’re getting all grown up.”
“Yeah. Still feel like JJ’s older than me sometimes,” you said, his head cocking. “She doesn’t hesitate. She goes for stuff and I still overthink things so much.”
“Well...first off she’s ten so her problems consist of who sat next to who at lunch and the fact she can’t braid her hair,” he said. “You had slightly different priorities at ten. You missed that phase.”
“I can’t even braid my own hair good,” you mumbled.
“Y/N,” he grumbled.
“I know,” you said.
“Honey. Why do you think we go on big family vacations? We want you to get to have those chances to be a kid. We’re all just big kids. Case and point, you know what we get up to when the little kids aren’t around and someday they’ll get in on the secret too,” he said.
“Just feels funny sometimes,” you said. “I feel like a fake grown up, you know?”
“Yup. One hundred percent yup,” he said, taking his pink drink back. “Fake it til you make it.”
“Okay, I think we get you back to the beach before I have to divulge this new beverage of choice information to Uncle Jared,” you said.
“I will disown you,” he said
“No you won’t,” you said with a smirk, grabbing the drink and chugging the rest of it down.
“Got me there,” he said. “This time, you’re on my team.”
“Hey, Y/N?” asked JJ while you walked up to the house from the fire you were having on the beach that night.
“Mhm,” you hummed, holding open the door for her before she took off to the bathroom. You headed to the kitchen and started to grab some snacks and drinks to bring back down. You were nearly packed up when she came back.
“Can I ask a question about being brave?” she asked. You spun around, giving her a smile.
“Being brave? Isn’t that more dad’s department?” you teased. “Yeah, shoot. Everything okay?”
“Um...well...I didn’t want to come up to the house by myself,” she said. You tilted your head as you headed out the backdoor, JJ a little close as you walked across the deck area. “I don’t like the dark.”
“I don’t like the dark either,” you said. “But I do like nighttime.”
“Isn’t that kind of funny?” she asked.
“A little,” you said, slowing your walk back, stopping when you were halfway between the house and the beach, taking a seat on the step. She sat next to you, lifting her head up when you looked up. “S’quiet at night. Peaceful.”
“Stars are pretty,” she said.
“Yeah, they are,” you said, buming her shoulder. “You know, it’s okay to be scared of the dark, especially places you don’t know. This place is safe though. You don’t have to be scared here.”
“I know. I keep waiting to get older so I’m not scared of stuff, like how mom and dad let you do stuff by yourself and you don’t have to ask permission to sleepover TJ’s,” she said.
“I’m a lot older, JJ,” you said. “It’s part of growing up...and part of that is learning you don’t ever stop being completely scared of stuff. You learn more though so it doesn’t seem so bad.”
“Yeah but how are you brave?” she asked.
“Only time you can be brave is when you’re afraid,” you said. “It’s like how dad used to be afraid of public speaking.”
“No he didn’t,” she scoffed.
“Yeah, he did. But he did it, even though he was scared, and now he has so much fun at conventions. Sometimes it’s just something that takes time, like not being afraid of the dark,” you said, looking around. “Like how it’s pretty dark right now but you don’t seem scared.”
“I guess...I’m not,” she said, looking around, giving you a smile when she turned back.
“See? Nighttime ain’t so bad,” you said.
“Yeah, it’s pretty,” she said with a nod, staring at you, that same look she’d been giving you more and more lately.
“JJ, if you want to ask a question, go ahead,” you said softly.
“If something ever happened to mom and dad...would me and Ro and Zepp go to a foster home like you did?” she asked. You smiled and shook your head, glancing down at the beach.
“No. No. Mom and dad...they have it all squared away so grandma and grandpa would take care of you guys and I would be a guardian along with them,” you said.
“A guardian?” she asked.
“Yeah. It means I’m an adult, not your parent, but I’ll take care of you like a parent would. Before I was adopted, mom and dad were like guardians for me,” you said. “You’d stay at home, same school, all that.”
“You’d take care of us?” she asked.
“I’m your big sister. I’d do anything for you guys,” you said, giving her a hug.
“Why’d your mom and dad not do that for you so you didn’t have to go to foster care?” she asked.
“I didn’t have much for blood relatives. My parents were only kids and my other grandparents were all gone before I was born. But they had a plan, some of their friends said sure if something ever happened to them they would take care of me,” you said.
“They lied?”
“No, I don’t think they lied,” you said, leaning back against the step behind you, propping your elbows up. “They just...weren’t prepared to take care of a kid.”
“So you went to a foster home?” she asked.
“After I got out of the hospital, yeah,” you said with a nod.
“Was it scary?” she asked quietly. “The car crash?”
“I don’t really remember a lot from that night. I hit my head in the accident so stuff is fuzzy. But I remember glimpses from inside the car and yeah, it was scary. It was really scary,” you said.
“Who took care of you?” she asked.
“There was this police officer. Dougie. He was probably Uncle Jared’s age. Big strong guy but super friendly. I crawled out of the car around the time he got there. It was pitch black and raining and I was crying and everything hurt...and he just picked me up, sat me down in the backseat of his car with him and he was just quiet. He put a blanket around me and sat there and held my hand and he never left my side until we got to the hospital and the doctor’s had to look at me. He even came to visit me the next day,” you said. “Other people were there and stitched me up but Dougie took care of me that night. I can remember Dougie.”
“What happened when you got better?” she asked.
“Well I met with some people when I was in the hospital, including Cole,” you said. “They went over some stuff with me. Cole went out of his way to help with all my parents stuff and arrangements and all that. A week after the accident, he took me to my first foster home. There were about eight other kids there,” you said. “I had to share a room with three other girls. All I wanted to do was cry so that’s what I did.”
“But then you got happier?”
“No,” you said, shaking your head. “I didn’t get happier until I came to our house. I didn’t want to admit it but that first day, I knew mom and dad were different and they were good, all you guys were.”
“I remember when I got in trouble that time, when I told you to go away around Christmas?” she said. “Dad said you had mean mom and dads before.”
“You know he wasn’t talking about no hugs and kisses, now, huh,” you said. She nodded, looking over at you. “Someday I’ll tell you more but you’re too young right now for that.”
“I won’t tell anyone,” she said. “Promise.”
“No, kiddo. I get that. I want you to-”
“Mom and dad are good so I’m not afraid,” she said, blinking at you a few times. “Just a little. Please?”
“...I used to be very afraid of touch, from guys, like dad. My first birthday party, when I’d been here a week, he held my hand to try and walk with me to the kitchen and I ripped right out of it because I was afraid...because that’s what I learned in foster care. Not all of them were like that and I do not want you to have the wrong impression. It helps a lot of kids. It helped me with finding mom and dad. But some places are bad and someday you can learn why I ended up in those ones but-”
“If you were in bad ones, why’d you come to us?” she asked.
“Because Cole helped me and when they tried to make me leave, stuff happened and I got to stay home,” you said.
“You were afraid of dad?”
“That was a long, long time ago,” you said, smiling as you heard a whistle from the beach. “But he was slow and gentle when I’d forgotten that’s how you’re supposed to be treated. We have really amazing parents, JJ. Even you helped me way back then.”
“Me? What’d I do?”
“Honestly, I have no idea. Just know I love you, squirt,” you said, giving the top of her head a kiss. “You want a piggyback ride?”
She hopped on your back and you nearly stumbled forward, picking up the basket and carrying it down to the beach with a grunt.
“I forgot how heavy she is now,” you breathed out when she climbed off and took a seat. You handed out the drinks, your mom grabbing you when you walked past.
“Everything okay?” she whispered.
“Mhm. Just a little bonding time,” you said. “We’re all good.”
“Never have I ever?” asked Jared, your mom shaking her head. “Oh, they know you guys get up to stuff. We all heard about the couch make out session. Oh, I got it...first time you snuck out and got caught.”
You’d heard both your parents stories before as they told them, Gen patting herself on the shoulder for technically only getting caught by the family dog.
“What about the youngin’s? TJ?” asked Jared.
“Oh come on. It’s TJ. He probably never even snuck out,” said your dad.
“Junior year of high school. Went to the end of year party. Asked out Hallie Knicks. I got completely rejected but I did manage to get drunk and walk home straight through the front door. My parents thought I was playing a prank on ‘em,” said TJ.
“Wait you snuck out, came home drunk, admitted it yourself and got off scot free?” asked Jared.
“Yup,” said TJ.
“Shit. I want your parents,” said Jared. TJ chuckled, everyone turning to you, your parents wearing big smirks. “Out with it, kiddo. When’d you ditch these dorks?”
“No, the game is first time you snuck out and got caught,” said your dad, raising an eyebrow. “Which we never did…”
“I never snuck out at their house,” you said with a shrug. “First time I was ten.”
“Ten? Whoa, don’t be telling JJ that,” said your dad.
“What’d you do? Go to a friends house?” asked Jared.
“Tried to runaway. Didn’t get far. Cop brought me back twenty minutes later,” you said, digging your feet into the sand, letting it fall through your toes. “Not a good night.”
You glanced up, the conversation dying out, your dad squeezing his beer bottle as he narrowed his eyes at the fire.
“Hey mom? How’d you fall in love with dad?” you asked.
“Jensen stole her from the mental ward,” teased Jared.
“At least mine’s not a demon,” he said.
“Demons have more fun,” said Gen.
“Yeah, yeah,” said your dad, your mom rolling he eyes with a smile. “So dad and I got a job on the same movie…”
“Wha?” you mumbled, lifting your head off TJ’s shoulder.
“Come here,” he said quietly, lifting you out of the beach chair, your arms going around the back of his neck. The fire was still going, your dad and Jared sitting there, laughing about something. “Let’s put you to bed.”
“Night, Jared,” you mumbled.
“Night, Y/N.”
“Night, dad,” you breathed into TJ’s neck, half asleep already. “Breakfast.”
“I remember. Breakfast in bed tomorrow,” said TJ. “Let’s get you put away, sweetie.”
He carried you all the way back to the cottage, helping you wash off the sand from your feet before he plucked off your clothes, threw one of his tees on you and threw the covers over you.
“You’re not coming to bed?” you said when he headed back for the door.
“In a little while. I was going to stay up a little more if that’s okay,” he said.
“Mhm. Love you.”
“Love you too, Y/N.”
The next two weeks flew by and you were seriously considering begging that you come back the next year.
“Sucks that we have to fly home tomorrow,” you said, moving slowly to some sweet music after dinner, TJ a far better dancer than he gave himself credit for.
“Yeah,” he said. “This has been nice. More than nice.”
“Want to cross something off the bucket list tonight?” you asked.
“Last time you said that, I was swimming in the ocean butt naked in the middle of the night when a piece of seaweed about gave me a heart attack,” he teased.
“Ah but we have the memory of you squealing like a little girl forever now,” you said, biting your bottom lip to hide your smile.
“What do you got in mind troublemaker?”
“Firewalking? Are you insane?” asked TJ.
“You’ve met my family so it’s quite possible,” you said, pulling him over with you. “It’ll be fun.”
“You are insane, woman,” he said, waving you to go first. You stepped up and put down your foot, feeling the heat but you walked across normally and hopped off into the sand, TJ blinking slowly at you.
“Your turn babe,” you said with a wink.
“Okay, okay, okay,” said TJ, walking a little faster, a bit more of a wince on his face but he made it through, a big huff of air escaping him. “The things you do for love.”
“Loser.”
“Loser,” he said, throwing his arm over your shoulders. “I had a dance to finish with you if I recall correctly.”
“Mind if I cut in?” you heard from behind you an hour later, TJ smiling as he stepped away and headed for your mom across the way. “Having fun tonight?”
“Yes, dad,” you said, moving a bit slower with him. “Guess what?”
“What?”
“I haven’t had a nightmare in over two months,” you said, a big smile on his face. “Well...one of those ones. I keep having this weird cat one though...”
“We’ll take it,” he said, spinning you around. “I’m glad to hear it. You seem happy lately.”
“After that epic meltdown I had finals week a few months ago, I tried to think about what you said and...I’m happy. Maybe not everyday and I know I’m just in this nice sweet spot right now but I’m not so scared of the rest of my life I guess. I got a pretty good one, you know?” you said.
“Yeah. Nice to hear you say it though,” he said as he moved around. “Mom’s already making plans to come back.”
“Oh we are so coming back,” you said.
“Figured you wouldn’t have a problem with that,” he said, looking across the way. “Think TJ will want to come with?”
“Yeah,” you said. “He seems less nervous around you. You guys talk or something?”
“Just guy stuff,” he said. He looked up at the dark sky above you, humming to himself. “I told mom I’m taking the rest of the year off.”
“Really? You’ve been busy since the show ended,” you said.
“I did 15 seasons of the show and then been busy with movies...I think I deserve a little time off,” he said with a smile. “Maybe mom and I’ll take a little time just for us if you wouldn’t mind watching the kids for a little while?”
“Never,” you said.
“Thanks, kiddo,” he said, kissing the top of your head before he broke off. “Go dance with your boyfriend. This is one of those moments you remember when you’re my age.”
“You’re not old dad,” you said.
“Yes! She finally said it!” he said with a fist pump.
“TJ? There’s a senile old man over here I need to get away from,” you said.
“I’ll take him,” said your mom, skirting over to your dad.
“Of course you will,” you said, grabbing TJ’s hand. “Want to head back to the cottage?’
“Yes please.”
“Alright,” said your dad, plopping down on the couch back in Austin the next night. “Kids are finally down.”
“TJ, where’s your sweatshirt?” you asked, rubbing your arms in the ice cold house. “Someone left the AC on.”
“I left it on the couch,” he said, munching on some pizza from the kitchen. The flight home had been long and it was late, everyone in bed and you were secretly just waiting for TJ to get his butt in bed so you could go to sleep too.
You grabbed the sweatshirt and tossed it on, shoving your hands in the pockets to get warm. You felt something odd though and pulled it out, holding up the square object for a few seconds before it clicked what it was.
You spun wide eyed towards the kitchen but TJ was already in front of you, snatching it out of your hands.
“Is that…” you said, swallowing as you looked up at him. He smiled and nodded, starting to bend down when you jumped up and threw your arms around him.
“Not even gonna let me ask, huh?” he teased.
“Sorry,” you said, peeling away for a moment as he got down.
“So...I was totally going to do this down there…” he said, glancing at your sweatshirt. “But I forgot my sweatshirt here.”
“You dork,” you said, smiling hard.
“Your dork for as long as you’ll have me. Would you marry me?” he asked.
“Yes,” you said, TJ standing up and opening the box, slipping on the ring. “Did that really just happen?”
“I think so,” he said. You gave him a big kiss, his hands cupping your cheeks before you were laughing too hard and had to pull back. “Hey now, no take backs.”
“No. Never,” you said, grabbing his hands. “Never.”
“Good,” he said, kissing you again. “Love you.”
“Love you,” you said, biting your bottom lip, getting another hug before you realized your dad was poking his head around the stairs to the TV room, whipping it back around when he saw you. “You can stop hiding dad.”
“Just giving you two your moment,” he said, giving you a smile when he came back in. He smiled and nodded at you both, rubbing the back of his neck. “I’ll uh...well I’ll see you two in the morning, hm?”
He hummed as he walked past, his smile turning to a smirk as he glanced around the corner back at you.
“He knew, didn’t he,” you said, looking to TJ.
“I asked,” said TJ. “He’s known about two weeks.”
“I’m going to guess it was a yes?” you asked.
“Well-” started TJ, your dad shaking his head. “Just guy stuff really.”
“Yup. Night, kids. We’ll go out to breakfast or something,” said your dad, looking you up and down and then at TJ. “I think you’re in good hands now.”
“Yeah. I am,” you said, grinning back at TJ. “Night dad.”
“Night kiddo.”
Jensen’s POV
“The kids finally going to bed?” asked De when I walked in our room. I hummed and sat on the edge of the mattress, crawling under the covers and hitting off the light. She rolled over and pulled my arm around her shoulders, nuzzling into my right side. She was warm and soft and there was still that little flutter there. “Jensen?”
“Yeah. Everyone’s heading to bed,” I said, giving her a light squeeze. “I love you.”
“I love you, hun,” she said, nestling her head on the pillow, taking a few deep breaths. “He finally did it, didn’t he. You got that look.”
“Yup. We got a son-in-law on the way,” I said, smiling at her.
“What was her reaction? You see it?” she asked.
“I think some of that weight she carries just went away for good. Not all of it but...she was happy. She’s happy,” I said, closing my eyes. “She’s happy.”
“You can cry, Jens,” she said gently.
“I’m happy too,” I said.
“Not every day your oldest girl gets engaged,” she said. “To one of the arguably sweetest men on Earth.”
“He’ll take care of her,” I said. “He already takes care of her.”
“We did good. You did good,” she said. “Set an example of what she deserves.”
“I guess we did, huh? Not too bad for two people who had no idea what they were doing,” I said.
“Eh, we figured it out eventually,” she said. “Let’s sleep. I have to wake up early and make some celebration cupcakes or something now before breakfast burritos.”
“You excited? You got a wedding to plan,” I said.
“Yeah,” she said. “Just wish we got her sooner.”
“You always say that,” I said.
“Still true,” she yawned. “Night. Wake me up if any other life changing developments happen.”
“Eh...maybe,” I teased, earning a playful whack on the chest. “You know I do that on purpose right?”
“Tease me? No. I haven’t figure it out yet,” she deadpanned, leaning up for a moment.
“Night, De,” I said, pecking her lips. She smiled and slid back into bed. Her breath evened out quickly and I started to drift, running over the conversation that’d been playing over and over for weeks now.
“Hey,” I said when TJ came back down to the beach after carrying Y/N to the cottage. “Someone forget a phone?”
“No, wanted to stay and hang out a while longer if that’s cool,” he said. I hummed, Jared looking back and forth between us.
“I’ll uh, give you guys some privacy,” said Jared, patting my shoulder. I almost stopped him but he smirked. “I got some of my own fun to be had.”
“Don’t whine too much for Gen,” I shot back, Jared giving a light punch to my arm as he stood up. TJ stood up and took a seat closer, grabbing another beer and cracking it open, drinking down about half of it before he peeled his eyes away from the fire. “Something wrong?”
“No,” he said, shaking his head. “No. I’ve been having this conversation in my head for...a year and I still don’t know how to start.”
Oh.
Oh.
He…
“You want to marry her, don’t you?” I asked.
“Yeah,” he said, nodding and giving me a smile. “Yeah, I do. I really fucking do.”
“Well...get to the asking permission part. Worst that could happen is I say no,” I said. He looked like he forgot how to blink.
“If you say no?” he asked.
“Why don’t you ask and find out?” I said. I knew I sounded like an ass but this was important. I knew he didn’t want to screw it up but-
“I’m not asking permission to marry, Y/N, Jensen,” he said. I raised an eyebrow, leaning forward in my seat.
“Well what are you asking?” I said, tilting my head at him.
“Am I good enough for her?” he asked. I scrunched up my face, closing my eyes before I held up a hand. “Am I? I know she can do better but do you think I’m good enough? She would say yes to me?”
“TJ,” I said, sitting back in my seat, running my hand over my mouth. “You know her. I mean really know her. You have her trust and unconditional love. She doesn’t give those out to just anybody. She doesn’t tell just anyone about everything she’s been through. You’re in a very elite club.”
“I don’t...I am asking you, her dad, on this but am I a good enough man for her?” he asked. “Please. Yes or no. That’s all I want.”
“I don’t think you’re good enough,” I said, his gaze dropping to the sand. “I think you’re better. You’re pretty close to perfect for her, probably the most perfect for her if it exists.”
He lifted his eyes up, a little wide, a little hesitant but he quickly gave a short nod.
“TJ...I know I mess with you sometimes. It’s one of the joys of being a father to girls. But...if you wanted to marry Y/N, I’d be pretty happy with that,” I said.
“Okay,” he said quietly, leaning back in his chair. “Okay.”
“Okay,” I said, taking a sip of my beer. “I guess that just happened.”
He let out a quiet laugh, glancing over almost shy like now.
“What?” I asked.
“You know you set a pretty high standard,” he said. “When it comes to Y/N.”
“Ready to keep it up the rest of her life?” I asked.
“If she let’s me,” he said, sitting back in his chair.
“You’re gonna get the hang of this real easy,” I said with a chuckle.
“Jensen,” he said.
“Yeah, kid?”
“Is it normal to fall in love fast?” he asked.
“How fast?”
“Second week of freshman year,” he said. “She wore this yellow tank top and faded shorts and her hair was in this pretty side braid and she was going on about making a study group for Biology and I just thought, fuck me. I love this girl. What the hell are you doing, TJ?”
“Still feel that way?” I asked.
“Oh yeah,” he said.
“It don’t go away either,” I said. He smiled and nodded, looking up at the stars for a few minutes. “Ask all your burning questions. Secrets safe with me.”
“Why’d you adopt her?” he asked.
“Cause we loved her,” I said.
“Yeah but...I don’t know,” he said.
“A piece of paper doesn’t make someone family,” I said. “I think you know that.”
“Then why?” he asked.
“A couple reasons. It makes things easier legal wise. It helps for medical reasons, if De and I were ever in an accident, if Y/N was, stuff like that. But we knew what it meant to her and to us,” I said.
“What’s it mean to you? I know her side,” he said.
“She told me for her it meant she couldn’t be thrown away. For me, it meant she couldn’t be taken away,” I said.
“I don’t follow,” said TJ.
“Say you had a kid, a daughter. Best day ever, right? She comes home and you spend the next seven months or so watching her grow, loving her, being a dad to her. That’s your baby girl. You’d do anything for her. I know you know what I mean because of Y/N but kids...kids are even more special. So you got this girl you’d give the world for and she loves you even if she can’t quite say it yet. But she does and you know she does. How do you think you would you feel if someone came to your front door and said they were taking away your baby girl and there was nothing you could do to stop it?”
“I’d say that’s my kid and I’m calling the cops,” he said.
“What if a cop was one of the people there to take her?” I said.
“But it’s my kid and I didn’t do anything wrong. Isn’t that kidnapping?” he asked.
“Felt like it. I never felt more helpless in my life than the day we almost lost her. I was pissed. More than pissed. But technically, they could take her and I had no right to make her stay,” I said.
“That was the stuff with the chick at the office,” he said.
“I hope you never have to know what that feels like, TJ. For a split second, it was even worse because for one little second-“
“She thought you asked them to take her back. I know. She feels guilty about thinking that sometimes,” he said. I gave him a long look, shaking my head when he shrugged. “You know how she is.”
“Yeah,” I said.
“So you adopted her so no one could take her away again?” he asked.
“It shouldn’t have been on her to be the smart one and figure out what had been going on. I got lucky she’s smart and the fact she was ready to get some closure on the accident. If she hadn’t saved her own ass, we wouldn’t be talking right now,” I said.
“Maybe it wasn’t. But she’s not a damsel in distress either,” said TJ.
“No. She’s certainly not one of those,” I said with a smirk. “Still though. I’m her dad. It doesn’t matter how old you get. Your parents still want to protect you.”
“I get that. I get the whole adopting so she’s yours thing too. But I just feel like, say Y/N didn’t know that stuff and she did get taken away...I have a feeling you still would have wound up as her dad,” he said.
“I guess I’m not following now,” I said.
“You’re joking, right?” he asked.
“Nope,” I said.
“Alright. Say your kid gets taken away and you can’t do anything about it. Say you wait until that kid turns eighteen and becomes an adult, you know, has more rights about who they want to speak to and hang out with. You’re telling me that you, super dad over here, wouldn’t try to get in touch with her again?”
“I think I would have fought for her to stay. But even if I lost, doesn’t mean I’m not her dad,” I said. “All that matters is what she thinks and she wanted me so she’s got me. Again, I don’t need a piece of paper to tell me that. All it did was make things a little easier for me. For her, it eased some worries so she can have it.”
“I know there’s this big packet in her closet in this duffel bag she keeps in there. Only thing in it. You gave that to her on her adoption day. Adopting her means more to you than you’re saying,” he said.
“TJ. I love her to death. She’s my daughter and you’re gonna be my son in law so I know you love her to death too. What are you trying to get at?” I asked.
“I don’t know. Just...I guess I wanted to hear that you adopted her not just for her but for you too,” he said.
“Why is that important to you?” I asked.
“Isn’t the point of having kids because you want them? Isn’t that like the selfish part of it?”
“TJ. If we had wanted another kid, there was a far easier and cheaper way to go about it. Being a foster parent and adopting her? Yeah, that’s one of the most selfish things I’ve ever done. I did it for her but I did it for me and our family too,” I said.
“Good,” he said, taking a drink.
“Oh, well glad I got your permission on it,” I laughed. “I got a question for you, Mr. TJ. You gonna take a year to ask her?”
“Shut up,” he said, biting down a smile. “No. I wanted to ask her while we were here. Packed the ring up in my sweatshirt and had it all ready to go cause I was going to put that in my carry on, not risk losing that. Guess who remembered he left his sweatshirt on the back of the couch at your place when we were on the runway?” he said.
“Wow. I bet you had it all planned out, super romantic down here,” I said.
“Yup,” he said, shaking his head. “So there goes that plan.”
“Word of advice. If she loves you, I mean really loves you, it doesn’t really matter how you do it. Try to put in a little effort you know but this is Y/N we’re talking about,” I said.
“I want it to be special. She deserves that,” he said.
“It will be, no matter how it happens. TJ. Since we’re having a moment and all that, can I ask why you went after a girl like Y/N?” I asked.
“She’s my best friend,” he said.
“I mean once you knew about stuff, why didn’t you ever treat her differently?” I asked.
“Because it didn’t matter, it doesn’t,” he said.
“You’re gonna do just fine,” I said, giving him a smile.
“Fine?”
“She asks stuff like that sometimes. Normally at three in the morning but just to be aware,” I said.
“I know. When she stays over-“
“Don’t need to know,” I said.
“Sometimes we talk or just sit in bed and don’t say anything,” he said.
“Good. PG rated cuddling is awesome,” I said with a nod. “Anything else?”
“No. Just can’t wait to ask her,” said TJ. “You tip her off though and you’re dead to me.”
“Hurt her and they’ll never find your body,” I said with a smile.
“That goes for you too,” you said.
“I can agree to that,” I said as I stood up, giving him a smile. “Grab that cooler for me when you head up.”
“I ought to head to bed actually. I got a date in the morning,” he said.
“Well enjoy it,” I said, patting him on the back when he got up. “Night, kiddo.”
“Jensen?” he asked. I hummed, TJ looking down for a moment. “Thanks. For you know...I’ll be good to her, if she lets me.”
“You already are,” I said, giving you a smile. “Goodnight, TJ.”
“We did good,” I said, closing my eyes, rolling over to face Danneel. “We did real good.”

[the sound of a relatively busy town, music playing people talking, Vestak-cry at its busiest]
I stare down at Might, she’s not moving but her pain permeates the air, distress, anguish and fear, through something troubles her even beyond her wounds. The metal shell has grown back now and her organic interior is healing relatively well. “Is there anything I can do to help?,” I say to a Veatorian woman outside of the healers yurt, she looks me up and down “Can you use that?” She gestures to the spear at my side “somewhat,” I reply “go out and hunt,” she points toward the mesa “head that way for 4  hours and then head toward the minor sun, you’ll reach some rich hunting grounds, food is scarce we need something to give these bandits,” the proposition of just giving up upsets me, I’d seen this happen many times before, Forus Minor was the most recent, having spent a bit of time there I began to recognise the kind of person it took to coerce and steal in this way, “I’ll find a way to stop them, I promise,” she looks at me as if I’d promised to destroy the moon or reverse time “with the weapons they have? We can't all be immortal,”
[the sounds of swamp wilderness, insects and frogs making noise Adam trudging along]
I grab some water and a long piece of cloth to wrap around my head to keep cool and start walking, leaving my coat behind. My ribs ache as I walk and so I begin to consider the weapon that the masked woman carried to distract myself. A laser rifle, an actual fucking laser rifle. Like something out of an old sci-fi story. The idea seemed so fantastical to me, like hover cars or pills that you take instead of eating, I mean sure, On a big enough supercruiser or an OLCoSat, but research into handheld energy weapons had been discarded hundreds of years ago. And yet I watched my friend get hit with one. I’ve been walking toward the mesa in the far distance for an hour or so when I come across another town, this one far more built up than Vestak-cry,
[the town creaks and sways, old wood and metal settling, flies buzz and a light wind blows]
The tallest building is around 3 stories high, its wide and round and built out of the engine of a mega-hauler or something of a similar size, I don't recognise the make. It casts a shadow on the rest of the village, with a roof of plastic sheeting pulled taught across and fastened to several bars which are run through it. The rest of the town surrounds this centrepiece, densely packed due to the trench that defines the border of the town. There must be about 150 separate settlements all huddled around the tall central building. I circle round to the entrance, the large metal gates lie open as I walk over the makeshift bridge the smell of rot and decay becomes suddenly very intense, I look over into the ditch and see that there are several bodies lying at the bottom, many with gunshot wounds in the back of the head or with large singed portions of their body missing. In the town the walls of all the buildings are marked with large gashes and bullet holes, every so often a blackened streak will appear or a hole through several buildings lets the wind whistle through it. More bodies litter the town, the killing blows less methodical as some of them clutch lengths of iron rebar or other makeshift weapons grabbed in a moment of panic. Silence is relative, you may think where you are is quiet, but if you listen closely enough there will always be the sound of a vehicle or the wind blowing lightly, in concert halls after a powerful song ends the space is deathly quiet, even as the last waves created by the instruments reverberate in the room. The same is with the town, there is no silence, the wind blows and buildings settle, yet next to what must have been a loud and bustling organism made up of hundreds of people who all knew each other's names and lives, all with individual stories that converge on this one point, it might as well be a burial chamber, forgotten and lost. The Hollowed out engine is a market , from what I can gather, all along the circumference and in the core of it stalls are strewn about, small, yet useless, trinkets with the more valuable items stolen. On the front entrance to the market there is a Tra’ha’dowl, strung up from the iron bars which keep the plastic roof in place, it can only be a few weeks since he was killed, his small black eyes are sunken and faded with decay and his small many toothed maw hangs open, his rubbery pale skin hugs tightly to his skeleton as the flesh rots. Hung from his neck is a black banner with the white insignia of a six spoked wheel run through with a sword. Beneath this the words “Unto Humanity Only” are inscribed in an ancient human language, not spoken since the old days of humanity, before the council. I leave the town and begin a long arc back to vestak-cry hoping to cover as much ground as possible in the hopes of not returning empty handed. And so I once more march in the wilderness.
There's a large pool of water just ahead of me, some creature drinking from it causes ripples to emanate from its long toothy snout. It is hunched down on six legs and its long flowing feathers ripple in the light breeze, I extend my spear and it raises its head reflexively, a pair of ears shoot into the air and it tenses up, it goes to run but it stops, something slowly snakes up its legs and at first I think it's some kind of eel from the water or a serpent of some kind, but then I realise that the vines are pulling the creature into the water it calls out, thrashing in futile desperation. The tips of the vines pierce its skin and it falls still, its large black eyes lose their deep colour and go hazy and it allows itself to be pulled to the bottom of the pond. Completely astounded and with my spear pointed downwards in front of me I cautiously approach the edge of the pond, the water still ripples and I peer down into its depths, I can't see the bottom either due to its murkiness or its depth I can’t tell. A moan calls behind me and I spin around, spear raised, a smaller but much angrier looking version of the beast I watched get devoured is hunched down, it has less hair then the other and it is armed with a large set of chipped horns and long curved teeth. It charges and I stumble to the side narrowly avoiding getting run through. It gracefully turns around and goes for another charge and I thrust the spear at its eye, missing and instead adding another nick to its horns. On its third charge I drop to the ground and brace the end of my spear into the ground as it gores itself with the force of its own charge, I push up and forward against its ribs to keep it away from the edge of the water from which more vines smoothly snake outwards, and it stumbles away. I twist the ring on the pole and it electrifies, the beast cries out and its muscles tense up, while it’s still stunned I pull out the blade and drive it up through its jaw and into the skull, it collapses, and the vines begin to withdraw.
[the sound of Vestak cry, no music but people still talk and move about] Back at Vestak-Cry I drag my blood soaked cloth filled with the chopped up creature to the centre of town, I leave it next to a plastic barrel filled with fresh water and a large bushel of herbs, a meagre offering from a town of people whose value comes from the intellectual realm rather then the physical. Might is still unconscious when I go to check on her, two attendees surround her, sitting and staring into space, waiting for an improvement. “Surely she should be better by now?” I say impatiently to the Dŵrian closest to me, he blinks twice, one lid covering the whole bulging eye from the bottom and then opening again. “they don't talk, vow of silence,” a large hass sits in a rocking chair and is sprinkling some substance into their liquid filled breathing apparatus. “That’s a good thing if you ask me, Dŵrians have a natural sense of superiority. just because they are amphibious, it’s obnoxious.” “Well?” I ask, my attention shifting to the aquatic humanoid “She’s taking her time, that weapon the human carried really did a number on her, that ain't no usual firearm, seemed magical,” He looks me up and down “you’re probably fixin’ for an explanation huh?” I nod  “suppose I can try and provide some illumination. People like us come here to be isolated. This is just a small fragment of who lives here. Most came here by accident ‘cept us that us that is. This planet is uniquely situated so that don’t appear on any maps and cannot be discovered by conventional means,” “How is that possible?” he shrugs, “ maybe the mineral makeup of the planet? Perhaps some ancient artefact buried deep within some hidden temple just waiting for you to go get it,” he says sarcastically and then laughs, “we could spend hours speculating. But the point is that ‘cause of this... phenomenon there are lots of people on this rock who would rather not be, people who had no good reason for being out this far away from hubs of the galaxy if you catch my drift.” Anyone trying to keep out of council monitored widening field routes by using backway lanes and jump points mixed with a planet that doesn't show up on scanners gets you a bunch of unsavoury types on the same planet as other vulnerable and lost people which is never good. He points up at one of the mesas far in the distance, the green mess of the vines gradually becoming more sparse, presumably as whatever gas the plant breathes becomes less abundant. “The group that human is a part of are set up on that plateau there, they came here about 4 months ago, they’ve already set up base out of the ship they came here on, They’re not here on accident, they don't wanna be found. When they got here we thought nothing of it. But then they started expanding outwards. The nearest village, sapiran… well, humans aren't exactly known for their peaceful nature, no offence,” “None taken,” I say, my eyes fixed on might, “and the vines?” I ask “What about them?” he says, surprised at my asking “They cover every square inch of the ground, everywhere I go it grows incredibly densely and it doesn't behave like a plant should, aren't there any vitamancers here? Surely they‘d know something about it?” “The only vitamancy that gets here is by our amphibious friend here,” he points at the Dŵrian who looks absently at the horizon, “hey Bedyw,” the Dŵrian doesn't flinch. The Hass man picks up a chunk of whatever substance he was filtering into his breathing apparatus and flicks it at the Dŵrian who starts and looks at the Hass with visible confusion on their scaled face “you’ve got a vow of silence not a vow of not listening! The vines!”  Bedyw shrugs what do you expect me to do? “I dunno, mime it or something,” They raise their hands and scrunch up their face at the ridiculousness of the idea but go to try and explain anyway. they look me in the eyes and put their hand on the ground tugging at the vines, then they motion the shape of a sphere “the vines cover the whole planet?” they give me a thumbs up. They hold up a single claw and then put their fingers to their temples and draw them away, splaying out their hands and widening their eyes as they do so. “One… dream? One explosion?” they turn to the Hass man and gestures hey I tried.
“Well that was unhelpful and confusing,” Bedyw does another gesture that I don't recognise but assume is some expletive. “If you don't mind me askin’” the Hass man says taking a deep breath from his breathing tube which sits on around his neck, “what's the deal with you two? Me and Bedyw reckon you're ex-lovers or something” “No it's not like that,” I say “Well what is it like?” I pause, nothing quite describes it really, no one else in the whole universe has been through what we had been through and had lived in the way we had. “It’s more like…we’re siblings, sort of,” “I've got plenty of siblings, some 400, but mama always said I was the special one. how’d you become acquainted then?” “It’s a long story,” “I’ve got time,” “No, it starts at the beginning of life itself in the universe so you really don’t,” “Fair enough,” he grumbles “Sorry, but aren't you more worried about the Anthronesians? Not how I met Might?” “Everything is as it was ever going to be,” The Dŵrian rolls their eyes “Aren't you more worried about what's up with Might?” he asks “I mean sure, but I just have to be patient, she’ll heal in time,” “Not her wounds kid,” he says but then realises how ridiculous he looks calling someone hundreds of thousands of years old ‘kid’ “Can you not see it?” “Oh. right.” “Somethings eatin’ at her, she ain’t been right for the past few weeks. We can all see it, surprised you can’t” “It’s been such a long time since I’ve seen her I just assumed this is how she is now I- I don't know,” Might begins to stir, a deep black sphere appears above her forehead and the air around her starts to shiver, “See?” I say moving over to her “if she’s still having visions, it can't be that bad,” “This ain’t like usual, somethings wrong,” A thin line of black emerges from her eyes like tears streaming upwards into the air and they make contact with the sphere of light hovering above her. The world suddenly turns black and I feel myself brought into her mind.
[the vision realm is harmonious, slightly musical almost, but also tortured and disturbing]
I’m in a small cave, the walls are made of dark strings which splay outwards, through the thick tangle I see the shape of some huge creature move around and snake up and over my head settling behind might who stands at the other end, the tangle of thin lines emanating from behind her, she stands with her hands out,  strings wrapped and tangled between her fingers. “Adam,” she says, her voice travelling along the threads , “We have little time. Eden, you need to get there first, to the start of it all,” A dark shadow appears behind her but neither of us react, as if we had known of its presence long before it arrived. “To leave this place” she pulls down a thread, plucks it and watches the vibrations travel away from her “You must go to the Anthronesians, they have a dissimulation field, they’re hiding something, uncover it” she points and I know where she means, on top of the mesa. The shadow places a pale hand on her shoulder and the lights in her body around where he grips her change into a polychromatic haze, glowing brightly, “after that you don't need to worry, your path will become clear,” “Yeah sure I’ll be totally calm,” she gestures the equivalent of a melancholy smile with her hands, a depth to her feeling lost on me, due to my limited perception of the light spectrum. The shadow grows larger. “If this doesn't work,, will you visit the others? I’m sure they’d like to see you. Well, most of them anyway,” “If what doesn't work?” The haze of rapidly shifting light completely engulfs her body and she draws her sword, pulling the threads wrapped around her fingers down, untangling many of the knots that provide the ceiling and walls with structure. She spins and swings the blade in an upward motion cutting up the shadows chest and severing a few threads in the process. An angry mist of polychrome energy bursts from the wound singing more and severing them. The shadow hatefully grabs might by the mask and throws her to the ground, unfazed she jabs the sword into his forearm and pulls it back toward her. The shadow recoils in shock and might rolls back onto her feet. The darkness around the shadow dissipates and for the first time I see Ovig Nadal in his true intolerable and impossible form,
From his eyeless head which hangs on a long stooped neck a white set of horns wriggle and writhe violently like maggots, and Impossibly and most distressing they are simultaneously still. Two sets of wings protrude out from his back, long and bowed. The edges of his body shiver and shudder, as he moves 7 echoes of his motions follow like ghosts each in a different colour of the light spectrum. His wide and smiling jaw hangs open as he pants, polychrome gas rising from his gullet with each deep breath. This same gas drips in liquid form from his fresh wound. Surrounded by an ashy substance which is the same pallid colour as his skin, His presence emanates outwards, in defiance of the universe and he holds out his slender, clawed hand as if presenting the damage to us. His form refuses to hold a consistent shape, undoubtedly might be witnessing a separate horror however, despite the shifting form, my eyes sting with tears nonetheless.
[The sound of the vision realm is filled with the words that Ovig Nadal is about to speak, mere glimpses hard to discern fully until he says them]
The image of this edgeless horror is known to me; it has festered in the back of my mind since Eden, as it is in all of humanity, all generations proceeding from me are instilled with a fear of him, the impact of my actions seared his image deep into the collective unconscious. “I seek only to free you, you blinded children, you thankless and scornful hordes,” as he speaks the matter which he appears to be made of begins to flake and an ashy substance fills the air. “You are an alien in this universe,” might says, “and in this of all realms you have even less grasp of your place, you are more of concept than of being, but even ideas can be laid to rest and quelled, I banish you, you who would seek to revoke and undo, my mind will not be a battleground for you. So fuck off.” The last of the ash dissipates and the black threads fade to blue and then into nothing, we now stand in a large empty space in which there is the true nothing "That's better," she says and I awaken to the sight of the Dŵrian and the Hass standing over me "You okay kid?" The Hass asks me "Yeah I'm good," "What was that all about?" "Vision realm, extra-dimensional creature had possessed might but it's fine now" The two look at each other and then back to me "Fair enough," might rouses from her sleep as I am pulled to me feet Not one to waste time she speaks before I can "that was weird huh?" "What was that move all about?" "I don't know I just suddenly felt that was was I was meant to do, it felt so right," “So he’s why your visions were different then?” “I guess so, but I’m not sure why he didn't just possess me outright? Its like something was keeping him from completely taking over,” “I didn't think anything could stop his will,” she turns to me, serious now "if you want to deactivate the dissimulation field you're going to have to go now," "No goodbyes?" "We'll see each other again, I'm sure,” "Do you know that or are you just being sentimental," “we’re immortal, the odds are that eventually we’ll run into each other" She roots through one of her pockets "Take this, for your little bag of tricks," She holds out a small bronze sphere, covered in seams and edges "Is this-?" I ask "Yeah," she answers "Holy shit, this is so rare! I don't know if I’ll feel right using it," "Farewell, Adam" "Farewell might-upon-serenity," We refrain from using each other's curse names. I turn and head in the direction of the Mesa, with a simple mission in mind and a trust that my friend will guide me well.

Bleeding Hearts | Elu Vampire Soulmate AU | Ch.2
Tumblr media
AO3 link
Eliott is living on alcohol, weed and blood. That drives his dead body on a daily basis, giving him at least some kind of purpose in his meaningless life. Being immortal sucks. Being dead sucks even more. All he wants is to get out of this endless loop of nothingness, but he doesn’t expect that to happen so soon. When he meets him, his world turns upside down and his heart starts to beat again.
Ch.1
Crossing paths
Blood was dripping down from his lips as he raised his head. An inhuman groan left his throat as the warm liquid filled his insides. His whole body was on fire, he felt himself becoming stronger, invincible even. The metallic flavor on his tongue reminded him of who he was and where he belonged, to the darkness. No one could stop him, because he could kill them all. There will be no more hesitation, no more holding back. The beast inside him cried out, showing his dominance. He slowly opened his eyes that were sparkling blue in the dim light, gazing down at the body in front of him. A beautiful face, small frame, the disheveled brown locks now bathing in deep crimson liquid that was still flowing out of the two holes bitten into his soft neck. Large, ocean blue eyes wide open, showing no signs of life in them. Lucas was dead. The monster killed him.
Eliott’s eyes snapped open, gasping for air. His whole body was covered in cold sweat, hair sticking to his forehead, tears rolling down his cheeks. He grabbed the shirt he was sleeping in, trying to normalize his breathing and heartbeat. It was such a hard thing to live with a functioning body after spending more than twenty years to get used to being dead. He was just like every other human being, sweating, crying, swallowing, peeing, sleeping, but still different. The sun still burned him, that was sure and he still craved for blood more than anything. Actually things got worse in the last few days.
He kept following Lucas from afar, making sure the boy won’t notice him. He knew that this was not right, but he just couldn’t hold himself back. It was a strong force inside that made him listen to his newly awakened heart instead of his head. And of course it wouldn’t shut up about Lucas. He needed to know where he lived, where he was working, going to school, to get coffee, who he was visiting at the hospital. Every single detail about his life. At least it was a reason for him to get out of his apartment. Luckily the weather was really cloudy and cold, so he was able to be outside during daytime. He had to admit that with his alive body there came a lot of inconveniences, like feeling cold. Wearing shoes were just as awful as he remembered, but he needed it to protect his feet from the cold. Funny how just for that he wished his dead body back.
He reached for his phone, that somehow ended up on the floor next to his bed to check the time. It was already past 10, so Lucas was already on the campus, probably being bored to death. Eliott loved to watch him through the university building windows as he was sitting in the classroom, tapping on his cheeks with a pencil, gazing at the professor with those beautiful, ocean blue eyes. Whenever it seemed like the boy noticed him, his heart would beat a thousand miles per hour, just to realize it’s basically impossible. He was a vampire, Lucas was a mortal, therefore he was not able to recognize him until he wanted him to. Of course that was all his heart wished for, but he just couldn’t let it happen. He knew if he would enter the boy’s life in any form, he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from being around him all the time, trying to get his attention and make him fall in love.
He got up from his bed. Since he met his “soulmate” and his heart started beating again he needed much more sleep than before. Now it was 5-6 hours instead of 1 or 2. His abilities were still the same, he was fast, quiet, agile and strong. It was just his brain needed a break and his body needed recharge, which was accomplished by sleeping.
The kitchen was a bit messy, since he tried to cook something last night, which almost ended with burning down the place. Thankfully he was fast enough to put out the small fire in the pan, but he was sure that the omlette he was making died in the accident. A sad story really. He might do a funeral for it later the day by the trash cans behind the building. Gotta give the honor to those poor eggs that sacrificed themselves to prove him that becoming a vampire didn’t help with his cooking skills.
He was too sleepy to clean up his own mess, so he just turned on his coffee machine and waited for it to make him some liquid black gold. His hands were still shaking and his heart was racing after the terrible dream he had. Ever since he was following the boy, nightmares like this were haunting him endlessly, reminding him of what could happen if he gets too close to Lucas. What happens if he loses control when he’s around him. That’s why he has to stay away, just observing from the distance, never initiating any sort of contact.  One cup of black coffee later he was agressively staring out the window, well more precisely through a small gap between the thick curtains. The sun was shining bright, no signs of clouds. He hated days like this, because it meant that he had to spend his time inside his apartment, far from Lucas.
He took a deep breath and tried to calm himself down. This was not the end of the world, he will go to see him after the sun sets, until then he has a lot of time to spend. The living room was also a mess, crumpled papers, empty beer bottles and an empty box of chinese takeout he ordered after last night’s tragedy. He flopped down on the couch, turning on the TV and just letting it fill the annoying silence. Well, he could hear people walking on the streets, the old lady downstairs talking to her cat, some young couple having sex a few doors away. Who the hell has sex at 11 in the morning? Don’t they have a workplace or school to attend to? Fucking youngsters.
━━━━
He was halfway through a TV show called The Umbrella Academy when he got startled by his buzzing phone. He reached for it, snatching from the coffee table he was resting his feet on and accepted the call without checking who was calling him.
“Yes?” he asked, his voice was still a bit raspy, considering he haven’t talked to anyone in days now.
“Eliott, my favorite barista! How’s it going?” came the enthusiastic voice of Alexandre Delano from the other side of the line. He couldn’t help the small smile creeping up on his face. They knew each other since a while now. Even a vampire needs a job to maintain his regular life somehow, like paying rent, his Netflix subscription, buying weed, alcohol, coffee and other unhealthy things to fuel his body on a daily basis. That’s why he had a part-time job at a night club a couple streets away from his apartment. It was perfect, because they opened after sunset and were closing a few hours before dawn, which meant that he could work without making stupid excuses when it’s a sunny day. Plus the job was fairly easy, he had to make cocktails, serve it and be charming. Basically the perfect place for a vampire. It also helped him with his self control, since it wasn’t easy being around so many people, feeling their pulse pumpig to the rhythm of the loud music, exposed necks and easy preys everywhere.
“Hey, Alex. Long time.” he said softly, pausing the episode he was currently watching. “What’s up?”
“I was wondering if you could come in and cover a shift for us today. You weren’t here since a week now and Emma fucking misses you.” he said with playfulness in his tone, which made Eliott chuckle.
“Or she just misses my special margarita cocktail.” he joked, but it was probably true. Emma was his coworker, just like Alex, but she couldn’t quite keep herself away from the drinks. She almost got fired a couple times, but the boys always stood up for her.
“Oh, come on, man! We all miss your stupid face!” he claimed. “What would we do without your sarcastic jokes and grumpy behavior?”
“That’s just super nice, thank you.” he murmured, rolling his eyes with a fond smile on his face.
“You know how I meant. And it’s fucking friday, students are going crazy! There will be a lots of people. We need all the help we can get.”
“Chill, Alex. I was in the minute I heard your voice.” he calmed him softly, enjoying the warm feeling that was spreading in his chest.
“Really?! That’s cool. See you at 21h?” he asked happily and Eliott could hear Emma’s voice in the background. They were probably out together somewhere.
“Sure. See you.” he replied and hung up.
━━━━
Long hours passed and the club was now filled with mostly tipsy and wilding university students, trying to get rid of all the stress they’ve been gathering throughout the whole week. Eliott was surprised that his beast didn’t even try to burst out, even though he drank half a liter of AB+ before he left his apartment. Maybe it was because of his beating heart, he had no idea, but there was no reason to complain, since that made his job ten times easier.
He had a lot of fun at the bar with Alex and Emma, making cocktails, serving drinks to sweaty youngsters, enjoying the thumping sounds of dubstep and techno music while watching the crowd of bodies swaying on the dance floor. Of course the brunette couldn’t help herself and got a tiny bit tipsy within two hours. She was a pain in the butt to handle, keep spilling drinks, jabbering at the guests and dancing around the boys clumsily. They had to help her up or clean the mess she made, but they didn’t mind it, because they were having fun. Eliott couldn’t remember the last time he laughed so much, but with all these new feelings inside him, everything was much more intense. Halfway through their shift Alex pointed out how he changed, but in a good way and that he is happy for him, to which Eliott replied with a wide grin. He really was happier and his friend had no idea how much he actually changed. Finally he could feel like he was a normal boy, who wasn’t 48 years old, stuck in a 20 year old body and craving for other people’s blood. He was just Eliott, the bartender.
Somewhere around midnight he needed to go to the bathroom, just to wash his face and refresh himself. Babysitting Emma all night was a hard task, even for an immortal. As he looked in the mirror, water dripping from his face he felt like he is not seeing a monster, but himself. The young boy that got killed so long ago by a creature of the night made his way back, taking over his body, enjoying his life. He wished for this to be permanent, but a little voice in the back of his head kept reminding him that he can never be normal again, that he and his whole life is completely fucked up.
He wiped his face with a paper towel and exited the bathroom, walking back towards the bar. He had to stop for a moment when his heart skipped a beat. It was so sudden and unexpected, that he got shocked. It took him not more than a few seconds to notice the cause of it. Lucas was standing by the bar, holding a bottle of beer and chatting with Alex casualy. Eliott panicked. His breathing quickened, heart racing like there’s no tomorrow and his nose got filled with the oh, so familiar scent of mint and deodrant, covering all the different smells that were flying around in the air. He could only see and feel the presence of Lucas, everyone else ceased to exist for him.
What the fuck is he doing here?!
He could feel his palms getting sweaty, hair sticking to the nape of his neck. His heart was screaming at him, telling him to go over there, talk to Lucas, but this time his brain was sober enough to start coming up with escape routes. He knew he shouldn’t be running away from his workplace, but he couldn’t go there to the brunette and act like he wasn’t just following him for 2 weeks in a row, watching his every step, memorizing his classes and routines.
No, he can’t go there. No way. He was just about to head towards the back door that was leading to the storage, sneaking out from there, when Emma appeared next to him. He was usually well aware of his own surroundings, being able to tell if someone tried to approach him, but not this time. He was too fucking preoccupied with a certain brown haired, blue eyed boy that was currently laughing at something his stupid friend - Basile, if he remembers his name correctly - said just now. And damn if that laugh wasn’t the best thing he ever heard, Adding to that he was wearing tight, stone washed black jeans with a black button up shirt. Eliott swallowed.
“Hey, Eli! My sweetheart, why are you standing here alone?” she chirped, the smell of vodka mixed with brandy almost, almost covered the sweet scent of Eliott’s beloved boy. Emma threw her arm around the guy’s neck and pulled him towards the bar, keep rambling about some shit. He tried to resist, but it would be too suspicious. He had no choice but to join his friend at the bar.
“Hey! You’re back!” Alex yelled over the loud music happily. “I was worried that you flushed yourself down in the toilet.” he joked and nudged his side playfully.
Eliott would laugh at his joke, but all of his hairs were straightening up as he felt the strong presence of Lucas. He was too busy explaining something to his friends at the moment, so he got the chance to just take him in. His beautiful face, his strong jawline, that fucking disheveled hair, his long lashes that were casting spidery shadows on his soft cheeks. Damn, he was so beautiful.
He got startled out of his thoughts by fingers snapping in front of his nose. He shook his head and looked at Emma, who was standing in front of him with a smug grin on her face. Oh, fuck!
“Whatcha lookin’ at?” she asked, though it seemed like she already knew the answer. Eliott took a deep breath and shook his head. It was almost impossible to take his eyes off of Lucas, but he somehow managed to do it.
“Nothing, I’m going back to work.” he said, trying to sound nonchalant, walking to the other side of the bar, as far away from the boys as he just could, but before he had a chance to get away, Alex grabbed his hand, pulling him to his side. He gasped as the realization hit him that all four boys had their eyes fixed on him. Those ocean blue ones were even more beautiful in the blue and pink neon lights of the place. His heart was beating to the rhythm of the music that was currently playing, though he couldn’t tell what it was actually.
“Don’t try to escape!” Alex said with a wide smirk on his face, pointing forward with the hand that wasn’t gripping into Eliott’s shirt. “These are my sweet friends. They just started college.” he explained enthusiastically. The gang in front of them smiled friendly, they must have heard about the mysterious Eliott Demaury already. Emma likes talking when she’s drunk and he was away for enough time for her to spill some tea to basically anyone that was in her vicinity.
“Hey, you must be the famous Eliott.” Yann said, her bright smile was in stark contrast with his skin color, which was just extremely charming. Eliott would sure find him handsome, but his eyes were still fixated on one face and it seemed like Lucas also had his full attention on him. Ocean blue eyes boring holes into his face, making his cheeks heat up. What the fuck was this boy doing to him?
“Yes, he is.” Alex answered, pinching his side while shooting him a disapproving look that was saying ‘Just this one time, be nice to them, okay?’ Eliott wished if he could do that, but as he opened his mouth, nothing came out.
“Ahw, look at him, being at loss of words.” Emma chimed in, sipping on a glass of god knows what, having a wide smile on her face still. “Excuse him, but he probably never seen such beautiful boys like you. Not Basile, but like the others.” she said smirking, winking at her friends.
“Hey! I’m attractive, okay?” the curly haired boy whined, slamming his beer bottle on the counter, earning a grumpy look from Alex.
“No, I’m fine.” He finally managed to find his voice and talk. He could see something shift through the brunette’s face, but it was gone in a second. “Yes, I’m Eliott. Nice to meet you.” he said and his foolish brain and his fucking polite behavior made him raise his hand. Yann grabbed it first, sending him an encouraging smile.
“Yann, nice to meet you.”
“Arthur.” was the next one, hair softly curling up by his ears, his glasses sitting peacefully on his reddened cheeks.
“Basile, we heard a lot about you.” he said with an excited grin, shaking the offered hand a bit too fast and too long. Still Eliott would rather take that than touching the last member of the gang. His heart threatened to just burst out of his chest in excitement and fear. Last time they touched was so fucking intense he got a panic attack, so what would happen if they shake hands?
He had no chance to get away from it now. Basile’s sweaty palm left his, so he reached towards Lucas, who looked a bit nervous before grabbing it. The feeling of it was like electricity blasting through his nerves and veins, freezing him to the spot where he was standing. It was like something clicked inside him, like a puzzle piece finally found it’s place in the big picture. As he examined the face of the other, he just knew that Lucas was feeling this intensity too. He pulled his hand back like he was touching fire, eyes widening from shock.
“What’s wrong, Lulu?” Alex asked worried, switching his eyes from Eliott to the boy and then back.
“Nothing.” he mumbled, his voice slightly shaking. He unconsciously licked over his bottom lip, taking it between his teeth while looking at Eliott, searching for answers on his face. He wished if he could give it to him, right after he kissed those soft lips bright red. I am so damn fucked.
“Wanna go back to dance?” Yann asked softly, placing a hand on his best friend’s shoulder, who finally tore his gaze away from Eliott. He could finally breathe normally again.
“Yeah, that’s a good idea.” he mumbled on a soft tone, finishing his beer with a few gulps and Eliott couldn’t help, but stare at his Adam’s apple moving up and down on his throat. He had to grab the counter because his fangs just popped out. The control he had over himself for the last few hours was thrown out of the window now. Every single nerve in his body was screaming for Lucas as he walked back to the dance floor with his friends.
He was dragged out of his daze when Alex a bit too roughly poked his side with his elbow. As he looked at his friend, he could see confusion and a hint of disapprovement in his eyes. The urge to tell him everything and explain that he wasn’t just picking out Lucas for a one night stand was too strong in the moment. So as an answer, he shrugged and walked to the shelves behind them, organizing their collection of whikeys.
Through the rest of the night, he barely saw Lucas. It was almost like he was avoiding him, since it was always just one of his friends coming to them for drinks. He was both glad and upset at that. Glad, because it was easier to hold himself back, controlling his inside monster that just wanted to burst out from the mere presence of the brunette. Upset, because his whole body was craving for the boy so much it was physically hurting him. He could smell him, hear his heartbeat and see his beautiful features in the crowd. This was a torture for sure.
The boys left an hour before closing, dragging a very drunk Basile with them. Emma already bailed a couple hours ago, now swaying and making out with a girl on the dance floor to some shitty techno remix. Most of the people already left the place, the rest was shit faced and close to passing out. Eliott decided to clean up the floor and the counter, while Alex went to say hi to his leaving friends. Just the thought of Lucas walking away from him was painful, but as he looked towards them, his eyes locked with a pair of ocean blue ones. His cheeks were a bit red, caused by the mix of alcohol and dancing. There was something in his gaze that sent shivers down Eliott’s spine, making his body tense up. The boy blinked a couple times, licking his bottom lip yet again, basically driving him crazy with this and focused his attention back to his friends. The three of them gave a short hug to Alex, still holding their wasted buddy in a tight grip before walking out of the door. Taking a part of Eliott with him.
━━━━
Closing went much smoother than Eliott expected. He helped to get the remaining people out of the building and clean up the place, but he could leave earlier since Alex offered to close and take Emma home. She was now sleeping on a comfy couch, that was placed in one of the corners, snorring loudly.
He put on his jacket, shaking hands with his coworker and then stepped outside. The cold breeze of the morning air shook him up a little, helping to get rid of his sleepiness. It was still hard to get used to feeling tired and the need to sleep. His feet was making a crunching sound on the sidewalk as he took a few steps, then he noticed a figure standing a few meters from him, leaning against the wall. He looked over and suddenly he forgot how to breathe.
Lucas was just standing there, his arms crossed, wearing his signature navy blue bomber jacket over that fancy button up shirt. His hair was falling into his face and his eyes were slightly closed. He actually looked like he was sleeping, even his breathing was slow and even, smelling a bit like beer.
He wanted to resist so bad, but it was just impossible. They were alone, people were still sleeping or going home from parties, so the street was nice and quiet. The orange light of the street lamps were casting dark shadows over the beautiful face of the boy. As he too a step towards him, his eyes jerked open and his small body got all tensed. He looked at Eliott half shocked, half surprised.
“Hey.” he said, trying to hit a friendly tone in his voice, which seemed to ease the brunette a little.
“Hey.” his voice was almost a whisper and if Eliott wouldn’t have such sharp ears, he could have missed it.
“Alex will be coming a bit later.” he explained, since there was no other reason for him to be here than waiting for his friend. He saw Lucas was fidgeting with his hands, looking down to his feet before raising his gaze at him again. He was so fucking gorgeous.
“I was actually waiting for you.” he muttered under his breath and Eliott’s blue eyes shot wide, not believing his ears.
“Pardon?”
“I said, I was waiting for you.” he repeated now, looking a bit more confisent, his eyes filled with determination. If Eliott wouldn’t be already head over heels for this boy, well, he would be now.
“And why?” he asked, not being able to hold back the amused grin that creeped up on his face. As a response, he got a shy smile which was the most precious thing he had ever seen.
“I don’t know... I felt like I should do it.” he said honestly, shrugging like it was not a big deal, while it actually was. Eliott knew too well how that felt, because he kept having those feelings around Lucas way too often.
“Well, I am here now.” He was praying to whatever force that took over his brain in the moment, making himself be able to speak in full sentences without stuttering.
“I wanted to apologize.” he started, fingers playing with the zipper of his jacket. “I was a bit rude back then, not introducing myself and pulling away my hand, you know.” he mumbled and he was looking everywhere just to avoid the tall boy’s eyes. Eliott found that extremely endearing.
“No need for that.” his tone was soft, like warm and fresh honey. “You must have had a rough night. I can walk you home if you want.” he offered, not thinking about the consequences of his own words. Once again, his heart was much louder than his sleep deprived brain. Lucas thought about it for a second and his face split into the most heartwarming smile on the world.
“Okay, that sounds good.” he said happily, stepping on the sidewalk now.

It’s finally here! I can’t believe I managed to finish this chapter, it might be a bit short, idk but I HAD TO cut it off here, because cliffhanger and because my brain is too tired to come up with more story atm  Enjoy this while you can, I’m going to have a long weekend so I might be able to squeeze out another chapter soon. Make sure to leave feedbacks and don’t hesitate to shoot me with ideas if you want. Bisous

One Shot #19(ish)
Jo and Alex have their first ultrasound and find out some unexpected news.
On Friday morning, Jo unintentionally woke up an hour and a half earlier than she typically does on every other average day. However, she had a feeling that her body somehow must have known that today was not every other average day.
It was five o'clock in the morning and even the harmonies of the morning birds were still only tired, lonely, hums. She laid still for awhile in the darkness of the loft trying to will herself back to sleep, but found herself more alert with every imaginary sheep she counted jumping over their imaginary fence. When all of her sheep had been herded, and she found herself still wide awake, she continued to stare blankly at the ceiling. In an effort to entertain herself as well as pass the time, she began twiddling her thumbs. She tried breathing in deeply and she tried breathing out slowly. She tied and re-tied her hair, she switched positions, she tried flipping to the cool side of her pillow, she tried switching positions again. She tried everything she could possibly try in order to fall back asleep, aside from drugging herself, which she considered. She didn’t want to be awake any longer than required, because any moment longer than necessary was another moment of inextinguishable nervousness and if Jo hated anything, it was being nervous. It made her sick.
So, in acceptance of her fate Jo remained flat under the covers, wide awake. She could feel her stomach start to bubble and her heart start to beat faster than it should. She started picking at the skin around her thumbs knowing that by the end of the day they would be raw and sore and bloody. She told herself to stop. She knew it would sting later on when she had to rub in hand sanitizer for the thousandth time, but her fingers kept picking. Unraveling the skin on her fingers like a loose thread on a dress. Eventually the entire dress would come undone. Her nerves were spreading quickly and she knew that she could not stay in their bed for a single second longer. She felt as though she might actually suffocate. Still sitting in silence, Jo wondered if she would actually be the first person to suffocate while all of their airways were unblocked and intact. She gave up. Jo quickly rid her body of their duvet cover and rolled over to sit up on the side of the bed. She glanced at the clock on her bedside table. It was 5:10 AM. This was going to be a very long day, she thought.
By 6:30 AM when Alex finally woke up, it had felt like an entire week had passed. Jo had already watched the sun shift it’s way into the loft, fought the urge to vomit, started a load of laundry that she would forget about until later that night, made a pot of coffee, dusted off their CD rack, wondered why they still had a CD rack, brought their CD rack to the side of the curb, made herself breakfast, ate her breakfast, made Alex breakfast, ate Alex’s breakfast, watched an episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race, squeezed in a quick shower and fought the urge to vomit again. By 6:55 AM, Jo was shoving a piece of toast into Alex’s mouth as he slipped on his shoes while simultaneously tried pouring himself a cup of coffee.
“I know it’s a big day, but what’s with the rush?” Alex had asked Jo as she was driving them to the hospital a few minutes later, a piece of dry toast still scratching at his throat.
“I just want to get there already.” She said. Alex glanced over to the speedometer which indicated Jo was going 67 miles per hour. He sat quietly in his seat and glanced out the window. The speed limit was 45. Or, at least he thought it was. They were going so fast that he couldn’t quite catch the sign in time.
When they reached the hospital, Jo parked in Alex’s spot even though they were in her car. It was closer to the entrance, it would be quicker, she told him. Parking ticket be damned. Alex attempted to keep up with Jo as she rushed inside the sliding doors, practically pushing an orderly out of her way. He barely caught up with her as she flew inside elevator, the doors almost closing before he slid his way inside.
“Jo, will you slow down?” Alex called out to her moments later when she exited the elevator and made a beeline towards the prenatal/maternity unit. He tried to follow in her footsteps as she swerved around medcarts and laboring women in wheelchairs and bassinets with sleeping babies.
“Will you speed up!” She turned and yelled back to him while continuing on her way. Hardly registering herself cutting directly between a pair of elderly cheerful grandparents carrying flowers and balloons.
When they finally made it to the waiting room, Jo had Alex fill out her paperwork. She told him that she forgot their insurance information, but when she had taken the forms from the receptionist she noticed her hands were uncontrollably shakey. She was unsure if she had attempted to write if her words would even turn out legible. Instead, she scanned through various maternity magazines, not making any attempt of absorbing the words on the pages. However, she couldn’t help herself from staring at the happy mothers with their happy babies and the occasional happy dads thrown into the mix. Once more she felt her heart rise and her stomach sink. She felt like she was simultaneously at the top of the rollercoaster while also plummeting towards the bottom. Jo noted the trash can in the corner of the room. That would be a good place to throw up, she thought. For a moment she considered letting it just happen, release it all like a rollercoaster going over it’s peak, until a nudge from Alex pulled her focus.
“We’re up.” He said, pointing towards the smiley nurse waiting in the doorway.
“Dr. Karev?” The nurse called out again while scanning the room. Jo stood quickly and followed her through a hallway.
Moments later, the nurse reached into a cabinet and pulled out a thin paper gown and handed it to Jo who couldn’t quit pacing in the examination room. “Alrighty, Dr. Karev. Just slip on the gown and saddle up onto the table. The drape’s right next to you when you’re all set. Just open the door when you’re ready and Dr. Tozer will be in in a moment.”
“Thank you.” Jo flashed a quick and nervous smile as the nurse quietly exited the room. Jo held the gown out in front of her, letting it unravel. “This is crazy.” She said to Alex who had been sitting relatively calmly in the corner of the room while Jo and the nurse had gone to check her weight. She glanced at her husband who had simply smiled back at her comment while she hastily rid herself of her shoes and clothes. Somehow the hours had passed, but time was still moving so slowly. It felt like it was taking an hour just to remove her own clothes. “Are you nervous?” She asked him while slipping her arms through the holes of the gown.
“A little. But, I think you’re nervous enough for the both of us.” He said as he watched her fumble to tie the back of the gown closed.
Jo gave up her fight with the plastic strings and moved onto removing her underwear and shoving her clothes into her bag. She shuffled her bare feet across the cold floor towards Alex who instinctively stood up as she turned around. Without words, she signaled for him to help her knot up the back. As she faced away from him, and without a minuscule task to complete, she realized she had nothing to do to fill the remaining time with but words. She gave in.
“I’m really nervous, Alex. Like, really nervous. I’m so nervous that I want to barf. I’ve needed to throw up all day. I need to. I do. It’ll make me feel better. I think I’m going to, okay?” Jo fiddled with her wedding ring on her finger, twirling it around, pulling it off and putting it back on. Trying to occupy herself with anything besides the thought of vomiting at Alex’s feet. But all she could come up with was how good it would feel just to do it and get it over with. Not because she particularly enjoyed the feeling of vomiting but because she wanted to think of nothing else besides the contents of her stomach for a whole thirty second. To not be nervous for thirty seconds. To not be worried. If her head was in a bucket she wouldn’t have time to focus on what may or may not be happening inside of her and what may or may not occur in nine months and how she may or may not have the ability to raise a decent human being.
Alex pulled tightly at his knot, signaling that he was done. He squeezed gently at Jo’s shoulders and spun her around to face him. His calm demeanor quickly turned to concern as he noticed Jo’s face begin to lose color and her eyes begin to glisten with tears. “Don’t barf. You’re going to be fine. Everyone’s going to be fine. We’re going to have a baby!” He caught her off guard with a kiss, followed by a tender peck to her forehead. When he pulled away, she appeared anyway but relaxed. As he went to lean in to hug her tightly, she spun away from him and walked towards the door of the exam room. He wondered for a split second if she was going to walk out of the room and never come back.
“You don’t know that.” She quipped back to him as she pulled open the door to let the doctor know that she was ready for her.
Alex put his hands on his hips in that certain way he always does when he starts to get anxious himself. “Know what?” He asked.
“That everything is going to be fine.” She said while climbing onto the exam table and swinging her legs into the stirrups.
“Jo.” Alex said with a sympathetic twinge. A tone that made Jo want to vomit even more. He stepped to her side and reached out his hand to grab a hold of hers, but she quickly moved it away from him and began busying herself with something else.
Jo pulled the drape over her legs and smoothed it along her bare thighs. She picked at the edges of the paper, tearing small pieces off and letting them fall into her lap. “You don’t, Alex! You don’t know! I could miscarry at any moment. I might not even be pregnant. Maybe the tests were wrong and I actually have some strange cancer instead. Maybe I am pregnant but the baby doesn’t even have a head. We could have a headless baby. Or maybe I could just die.” She tore another strip away from the paper and let it fall to the floor. She looked up to Alex just as a tear fell from her eyes. “I could die, Alex. This could kill me. I’ll die and I’ll just be another statistic for Arizona’s U.S maternal mortality rate study and you’ll be a widower and you’ll be married again in a few years because look at you of course you would and I know that cute nurse, Connie in Peds, has been into you for years because Janet in Ortho tells me every damn time I see her about how much Connie talks about you at their dumb Tupperware parties.”
Alex reached for her hand again, finally catching it. Her hand instantly relaxed in his grasp. “Will you stop it. You’re not going to die and I’m not going to be a widower and I’m not going to marry Connie.” He smirked as he ran circles along the topsof her hand with his thumb, “Besides, if I was going to remarry anyone, it would be Lisa in plastics.”
Jo ignored his attempt at lighting the mood. “I could, though! She showed me all of her graphs and charts yesterday. A lot of women die Alex! A lot!”
Alex made a mental note to yell at Arizona for her overbearing desire to share the statistics of her deeply depressing project to everyone she passes in the halls. “But you won’t be one of them!” He tried to assure her.
“But I could be. And then our baby will be motherless just like me.”
Alex went to speak again but was interrupted by a knock at the door. “Are you guys ready for me?” The doctor called out as she entered the room without pause.
“No.” Jo mumbled through a groan, pulling her hand from Alex’s grasp.
“Yes.” Alex blurted out after her in order to correct any confusion.
Dr. Tozer quickly washed and dried her hands and tossed the paper towel into the garbage, oblivious to the parental nerves in the room as they had become normal to her over her many years as an obstetrician. “I assume you guys know the drill? We’ll do a transvaginal ultrasound, make sure everything is peachy keen, take some measurements, grab a couple of picture, and then go from there. Sound good?”
“Yea.” Alex enthusiastically shook his head whereas Jo gave a nervous eyebrow raise as she laid her head back and shut her eyes. She heard her doctor slap on a pair of gloves and squeeze a bottle of lubricant. Can I throw up now? Jo thought to herself.
“Okay, Dr. Karev, some pressure.”
Jo flinched at the uncomfortable pain of the ultrasound. Somehow she wanted to vomit even more so than before. She started to feel lightheaded at the pressure until she suddenly realized that she had been holding her breath.
“Well, you’re definitely pregnant! About 6 weeks, I’d estimate.” Dr. Tozer assured the couple.
Jo, realizing again that she had been holding her breath, let out a huge sigh of relief.
“See, I told you you didn’t have cancer!” Alex cheered. He grabbed Jo’s hand once more and leaned down to kiss her cheek. The pair laughed in unison. In excitement. In disbelief.
“Oh, wow. Okay!” Dr. Tozer exclaimed, interrupting their moment as she began clicking more purposefully at the buttons. “It looks -” She began to speak before Jo quickly, awkwardly, and painfully leaned forward to the best of her abilities.
“Ectopic? No head?” Jo slapped Alex in the arm, “I told you something was wrong!” She looked back towards her doctor. “What’s wrong with it? Is it dead already? Does it have three arms? Is it -”
“Four, actually.” The doctor interrupted.
“Four arms!?” Jo gasped. She really, really needed to throw up. And she thought time was moving slowly before. Now it felt like time had completely come to a halt. “Alex, our baby has four arms and you won’t even be allowed to operate on it!”
Alex looked humorously between the doctor and Jo. He tried to reach out to sweetly glide his hand through Jo’s hair, but it seemed that any attempt at comfort to her was going unnoticed. He glanced at the doctor again and the pair shared a quick smile.
The doctor interrupted Jo’s tangent once more, “And four legs.”
“Oh god.” Jo threw her head back and began to sob. She blindingly reached out through her watery eyes for any part of her husband's body. “Alex. We have an octopus for a baby. A freakin’ baby octopus. I told you I felt off today. I knew something was wrong!”
Dr. Tozer smirked as she turned the monitor towards Jo, knowing it was time to end all of Jo’s worries. “Dr. Karev. Your babies are going to have the most entertaining life with you as their mother.”
Jo sniffled and wiped her tears away with the back of her hand. She breathed in heavily and uncontrollably, gasping for air while trying to catch the snot from her nose. “I hope they do.”
Just then, everything seemed to click. Jo’s hand fell away from her face and into her lap. “They?” She turned to Alex who had been trying so hard to contain his laughter. “They! They as in two? Two as in twins?” She put up the number two with her hands. “Two...babies? In me? Right now?”
Alex beamed with enjoyment as Jo awkwardly reached out to kiss him, she wouldn’t realize until the drive home that in that moment, she actually witnessed a few tears fall from his eyes, too.
“Twins!” He reassured her. The couple gently braised their foreheads against each other, unable to hide their blatant love and joy.
After a moment, their doctor returned their attention to the screen and pointed at the two grey blobs. “Baby A is right here. And we’ve got Baby B right there. No octopuses.” She reassured Jo.
After noting to herself that she was indeed carrying two individual, completely separate, and two armed, two legged babies, Jo leaned her head backwards and stared at the ceiling. “Twins.” She said in disbelief. She would say it many more times throughout the next eight months just trying to get it through her head, to get used to the sound of it. Suddenly, after a day where time was moving so slowly, everything seemed to blast into overdrive. Now it seemed that there couldn’t ever possibly be enough time.
Her and Alex were having two babies. But they had only planned for one, she thought! And now they needed to plan for two! Two babies that would turn into two toddlers and two children and two teenagers and two adults. They would need two cribs and two college funds and two cars and twice the amount of diapers and twice the amount of attention. How was she going to feed two babies at once, she wondered. How was she going to make sure one doesn’t fall off of their bike while she’s steering the other one? Or make sure they’re not conspiring against her and Alex. Or switching places in their classrooms and taking the SAT’s for each other. How will she tell them apart? What if they accidentally switch them at birth and they lead totally different lives with the wrong names? When she thought she might be having one child, she wondered if she would forget it at the grocery store. Now she wondered, would she forget them both? How would she make sure to differentiate them? In the few minute span of knowing she was having twins, Jo already wanted to make sure that they were always their own persons. That one wasn’t always referred to as the smarter twin, or the more creative twin, the funnier twin, the twin that listens better than the other. Even if she didn’t feel it in that moment, she was already thinking like a mom and a mom of twins at that.
Her spell broke when she heard Alex’s voice whisper into her ear while the doctor finished up. “Can you believe we’re having twins?” He asked her.
And just then, without warning, Jo leaned to the side of the examination table and finally gave into her desire to throw up. No, she could not believe it, and it would take her until the day they were born to do so.

Time melted away as you soaked up the heat from his skin to yours. Completely, for once in what seemed like forever, you felt at peace, almost like you were where you belonged; with him, at this exact moment, in this place. You had almost forgotten about the girl who laid in the other room recovering from her own nightmare until Dean spoke up.
“One of us should probably keep watch over her in case she wakes up,” he kissed the top of your head. “I’ll do it, you get some sleep.”
“Your clothes were all gross though, you’ll probably scare the crap out of her if she sees all the blood and gunk when she first sees you,” you stated while setting yourself up from his hold around you.
“I have some extras in Baby I could grab,” he answered while also lifting himself up to your side, placing a tender kiss on your shoulder
“Well I’ll grab them for you. Mine were still relatively clean… even though I feel a little dirty right now,” you grinned before leaning over and giving him a little peck on the corner of his mouth.
Making your way over to the bathroom to grab your clothing thrown all over, the smile on your face only grew wider as you heard the low whistle coming from Dean.
“Do you really have to put them back on? I mean… I’d have to say this view of you is particularly in the top 5 of my favorites.”
“Oh?” You laughed while shimming into your jeans. “What’s number one?”
“Earlier tonight,” he breathed out. “While you sat just watching the stars. It’s a tie with the second night I met you, when you just stood staring into the pool just before you pushed me in.”
“You had it coming,” you laughed as you pulled your shirt over you head. “I mean, you were kind of jerk before to me, and it was there. Seemed like perfect payback.”
“You just wanted to see me wet,” he grinned as he watched you pick up his clothes from the floor while giving an innocent shrug.
“So where are your keys?”
“Right pocket,” he nodded, watching you dig into his jeans. “I don’t have to remind you to be careful with Baby do I?”
“I’m not driving her anywhere Dean,” you rolled your eyes. “Anyways, I’m probably the last person you need to educate on how to handle a beautiful classic, I have my own remember?”
“That’s purple…”
“Damn straight she is,” you scolded back. “So are the clothes in the backseat? Trunk? What?”
“Trunk. Green duffel.”
“Got it,” you said as you walked out the door, letting it close behind you.
The crickets and other nocturnal creatures were still very much awake as you walked around his car. It was a beauty sitting there with the moonlight reflecting off of her chrome grill. There was probably at least another good hour before the sun would peak up in the distance, starting the busy day of the rest of the travelers in the motel.
Popping open the trunk with the turn of the key, you lifted it. Seemed like a normal trunk with a couple random things in the back, but the outline of a hidden hatch caught your eye. You lifted it slowly revealing his hunters toolbox before you. Random relics, sawed off shotguns, various knives and other guns, and a large metal container of salt. All pretty normal and standard. The rocket launcher kind of through you for a loop however as you laughed while picking it up.
“What the hell do they use this for?” You asked yourself as you aimed it in the distance.
“Cosplaying Rocket the Racoon now?”
Turning quickly to the voice, not dropping the weapon down you saw Gabriel standing with a smirk on his face. You have him a hard look while he gave you a little curtesy in reply.
“What the hell are you doing here?”
“You called remember?” He stated while moving aimlessly and slowly within your vision. “Interesting night I would say. I always did wonder what Dean’s ‘O’ face looked like. Interesting choice in Winchester’s. I would have picked the tall one myself.”
“You heard me? Why didn’t you come before?” You growled. “They need you.”
“I’m not interested in the dynamic duos quest for mommy,” he retorted before breathing out a sigh. “So how are you kid?”
“Just fuckin peaches and cream,” You huffed while dropping the launcher down in your hands and sticking it back into the trunk.
“I see time hasn’t changed your charming attitude.”
“What do you want if you’re not going to help?” You snapped again.
“You know just to check in, see how things are doing. I’m just doing fantastic, ya know after being held in captivity for the last 10 years or so and having my grace slurped up like I was a juice box.”
“Get to your point.”
“Point is my dear, I heard you,” he stated firmly. “I never stopped hearing you. You do have a pretty loud mouth there. But, I’m not here for a high school reunion. I need your help with something.”
“And there it is,” You sassed back while folding your arms. “What in the world could I do for you and why would I even care?”
He stood dead in his tracks, the anger and hurt was rising in him as you stared him down. The once carefree angel you had known was truly broken before you.
“You have made some interesting friends back in Lawrence,” he replied. “I need you to go and talk to them. Find something out for me. They know things.”
“Ask them yourself.”
“Yeah, no thanks,” he laughed nervously. “I’m not sticking my weakened and fragile behind in there.”
“But throwing me in is okay? Yeah, you haven’t changed.”
“You’ll be fine. You’ve already had your initiation into their little club, you know sharing so much history with them.”
“You… you knew didn’t you?” You raised your voice a little, feeling the hurt and betrayal that he had kept such a secret from you.
“You weren’t quite ready there sweet cheeks, not like you are now. Oh my, how you’ve grown. What do you think you would have done if I would have just told you the truth? That dear old Grandpa and Grandma got mixed into a bad crowd? Honestly, consider yourself lucky I was watching out for you.”
“Oh yeah, your abandonment was really watching out for me,” you rolled your eyes while grabbing the green duffel out.
“It was,” he answered back in seriousness. “If my brothers would have found you, who knows what would have happened. Sticking around you would have kept a target on your back for them. They don’t always play nice. They aren’t like me.”
“Because you’ve always been a fucking ray of sunshine,” you scoffed while lowering the trunks lid down softly. “Tell me what exactly you want and maybe I will make a deal.”
He grinned in satisfaction that you were willing to help with his crusade. He moved closer to you, as you stood firm waiting to hear his plea to deliver the ultimatum you had in store in return.
“I’m looking for Loki and his family,” he informed you. “They gave me up. I want my revenge. Find out where they are. I’m sure you will figure out how.”
“And if I do it, you need to do something for me in return,” You coaxed. “When the Winchester’s call for your help again, you will stop being a scared little child and answer.”
He pulled out a little plastic kazoo and held it in his lips. Giving it a light blow he nodded before snapping his fingers and whisking away once more for your sight.  Taking in a deep breath, you found yourself moving back to the motel room door. Opening it slowly to see a worried and impatient Dean Winchester staring at you.
“That took a lot longer than expected,” he questioned you while cocking up an eyebrow.
“Yeah, well you have so many cool toys out there,” you flashed an innocent smile while dropping the bag to him. You could have told him about your visitor, but the fact remand that even if you did help Gabriel, you couldn’t be certain that he would follow through on his end, bringing up hope and crashing it down for Dean. “The military grade rocket launcher was particularly interesting.”
“One of my favorites, although I can’t say I’ve gotten the opportunity to use it that much. Sam can be a little of a Debbie downer when it comes to that stuff.”
“I’m pretty sure for good reason,” you laughed as you watched him pull out a simple black t-shirt and jeans, moving from his spot to throw them on in a little bit of a rush.
“Everything is okay though? Right Doc?”
“Why wouldn’t it be?” You asked while thinking of the situation you were in.
Why would everything be alright you wanted to yell. In order for him to get his mom back, you had to go and talk to the group who wanted to use you. Working with them, could possibly put Dean and Sam in danger if they brought back the nephilim. Plus the whole angel army that could come through as well, with plans of world domination. Yeah, just only a few things that could go wrong.
“Well I mean, everything tonight, at the bunker, the bar…about an hour ago ,” he trailed off skeptically.
“Don’t worry about me. I’m a big girl. I won’t break,” you lied to yourself and him. “And as for what happened an hour ago… well that was fun.”
A smirk raised in the corner of your mouth as you drew closer to him, pulling his shirt in your hands to you. Stretching up on your toes, you give him a little kiss. Those damn lips were insatiable:
“So...what do we call this? I mean you’ve said you don’t do the whole relationship thing, plus my track record isn’t exactly great either… although I must say it is better than Sammy’s,” he laughed, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Oh don’t get all chick flick moment on me now Winchester,” you teased before trying to cleverly distract from telling him how you really felt. “This? It’s fun. Why ruin things by giving it a label? I mean, we both have other things to worry about right now, one of them being the girl next door who will probably wake up soon with PTSD.”
“So, strictly business then...maybe a little fun on the side.”
“Yup,” You popped off your lips, noticing a wave of disappointment coming over him.
“Alright then,” he turned to the adjoining door to the other room, speaking again before walking through. “I’ll wake you in 2 hours or if she wakes up first.”
“Okay,” you said into the empty room as he shut the door behind him, leaving you alone with your thoughts.
Sitting down on the bed with the sheets torn every which way, you dropped your head down to your knees. Everything felt like the world was spinning. Like with every minute quickly turned into another twist and turn of a rollercoaster that you couldn’t get off of. As everything about your life was becoming clearer, the future was now fuzzy. The only thing you knew for certain was that you could not deny any longer was that the man in the other room had gotten under your skin, which only made the pain in your stomach stronger knowing that you had to push him away or at least try to. It’s was true, you both had work to do, and what you were about to do was accept what you really were and join the other monsters he would gladly take down if given the chance.
Moving over to the little mini bar, you slammed back the first tiny bottle that looked like it could hinder you mind from talking anymore for at least a minute. Not working, it was quickly followed by others until there was nothing left on the shelf making you slam yourself down on the bed in defeat.
“Fuck.”
____________________________________________________
Y/N’s laugh as she had spoke about old hunting stories was not just what she needed after having her whole world turn upside down, it was what Dean had needed too. Before he had met her, he couldn’t remember the last time he had genuinely laughed or even really heard one in his presence. Sure Sam would laugh sometimes and tell jokes, but most of them were at Dean’s expense so they didn’t count.
He could have sat there with her all night, but fate had to
walk through the door. Of all places, one of his favorite bars, vampires just had to stroll in for a bite. It had even surprised Dean the way he let Y/N take control over the plan, maybe because for once in his life he didn’t have to. Perhaps maybe it was the way that she looked at him, almost telling him to trust her. He did trust her, but that didn’t mean he had to like it.
Y/N was no ordinary girl, yes, but someone he cared about all the same, maybe even loved. Well, not maybe, he did, so that meant he would do anything for her, including gladly put himself in harm's way before she would ever have to. That wasn’t her though, it was almost like she didn’t care about herself or maybe she was just testing the limits of what she was capable of. Something he himself had done in the past.
Dean had watched the way she moved gracefully, almost like a dance when he had gotten to her just when they were about to attack. The noise of the back of her skull cracking up against the vamps face even made Dean cringe a little. That had to hurt, but it didn’t seem to faze her. She quickly spun around catching the blade and was able to slice right through him like butter. It was a bit impressive where Dean could only imagine exactly how strong was she for such a small person.
The Vampire shielding herself on ground was going to be an easy kill, and he would have done it without a thought if Y/N hadn’t of stopped him. She saw something that he didn’t notice until he had stepped back. A terrified and innocent girl. Sure sometimes monsters beg for their lives to deceive you from doing what needs to be done, but Y/N trusted her instincts, finding truth before action.
Dean knew as soon as she asked her question what she was thinking. The poor girl had just been turned. He knew, from experience, how confusing and how much strength it took for her not to rip Y/N’s throat out right there. She needed the cure fast. Thank Chuck that Dean had opted to always have some on hand after the last time someone needed it.
Y/N must not have known that it was now a widely know recipe by the way she looked at it. Hell, even Dean started sharing it with others after he first learned about it. Blood of the vamp who turned you and a few other interesting additions. Well, they had the blood. There was enough of both vampires who may have been the source dripping on the ground where they stood. Hopefully it would still work. He never really tried after the fact like this before.
After Y/N walked away with the girl in tow, Dean knew it was his job to clean up the mess. He really did like this bar, and didn’t want to see them shutting down anytime soon because of a couple of corpses hanging out in the parking lot. He was able to shove them in Baby, which of course made him groan at the condition she was now in again. He was going to have to give her a good scrubbing later.
One good thing about it being so close to home, you know where to easily hide a body or two. He knew exactly where to take them, but it wasn’t necessarily a clean area. It was muddy and with adding all the fluids coming from them, it was going to be gross. Y/N really would owe him after this one.
He smiled when his phone dinged with a text message from her. Even though it was simple, he know knew that she was aware that his number had been saved for her, although he had written it down back in Sioux Falls. He didn’t know if she would have just thrown it away, possibly regretting the night before, so adding himself was his own way of just making sure she couldn’t forget. Not that he was forgettable, especially after that night, but he had the feeling he had just caught her in a rare moment then with those damn walls of hers down for a brief moment.
After digging, ditching and burning the bodies Dean made his way to the motel where she was. He had hoped that she was okay, and the cure was working for the girl. A small part of him though knew that if things didn’t go right, Y/N wouldn’t hesitate to do what she needed to do.
Luckily the girl was passed out and he could smell that distinct smell of vomit lingering in the room that he was all too familiar with. Yeah, it seemed, at least for the moment, that it might have worked. Only time would let him know for sure.
After a little flirting with Y/N in the room alone, he had the urge to kiss her, but given what had just happened he wouldn’t push his luck. It had surprised him when Y/N seemed to have been thinking the same, plus a little more while dropping her shirt down to the floor. As soon as it hit him what her invitation meant, he was not going to waste a second where she might change her mind. He already had a history with things turning around on him after she disappeared in a bathroom, he was not going to chance it.
She tasted like heaven, like warm apple pie on a fall day and felt as good as silk along his skin. He didn’t even care about the shower at first, he would have gladly just taken her right there against the porcelain tiled walls. But alas, he did stink like a dead body and earth; so the water was a welcomed factor to probably not gross her out so they could continue on further with what he aches for. Her.
He wanted to take his time, make her feel everything he felt for her. To taste her fully on his lips, before rushing too much like last time. Last time was a hunger just to have feel her. This time it was a longing to know every inch of her.
Some guys say that every girl tastes the same, but some guys are idiots too. They don’t know what they are doing, what they are looking for with every flick of their tongue. Y/N? She was intoxicating. Like a drug he would never give up that was calling to him for more. Unfortunately though, shower sex, although fun at times, is typically a challenge. He was more then willing to try, but he could see that she was a little held back and apprehensive given the position she was in on the slippery floor. The bed was the best choice.
Still fueled by the lust driven animal inside, he was taken back that she wanted to go slower then before. Almost like she wanted to savor it. That is exactly what he did, and it was better than the last time. He cherished every inch of her, appreciating the snap of her hips to his to match his every move. His eyes never left her face. God she was beautiful. How the hell did he manage to be so lucky to find her and get her? Every nerve in him was on fire, burning for a release, but he didn’t want to stop. She fit together with him like a puzzle piece that had been missing. It took everything in him to hold back, but as he heard her moans of pleasure moving off of her lips, he knew he was done for.
Cuddling after sex was a rare thing that he had always secretly enjoyed. Typically it always ended the same though, with the false promises of seeing the other person again someday. As he held her close to him, breathing in her scent he promised himself that he would never let her get away. Not when it felt so right to be with her, like fate.
Home. That word she whispered out as she snuggled in closer was the right word for it. Home is where your heart is, and Dean knew his was right there in his arms lying peacefully.
He had almost forgotten about the girl until he heard a painful moan next door. He didn’t want to get up, but on the off chance that things didn’t work, he had to make sure Y/N was safe. Even after everything she had been through, she looked like she was about to fall into a blissful sleep. He didn’t want to take that away from her. She needed it.
He was just going to toss back on what he had, but Y/N was right that he didn’t exactly look like something someone would want to wake up to after going through a change like that. The sight of her getting dressed made him a little disappointed, given a few minutes he would have gladly accepted a round two. There was a little enjoyment in seeing her hold Baby’s keys in her hand, he could envision how she would look behind the wheel. Almost automatically though, he still had to give her the same speech about being careful with Baby like he did anytime Sam held the keys. Her snarky come back about how she knew what Baby meant to him because she had her own amused him, making him joke with her about the one thing he knew probably everyone else disliked, but secretly he loved because it was all her.
Watching her leave out the door, he had gotten up to check if Sam had finally woken up and called. Poor guy was running himself down trying to find answers just as much as Dean had been. There was nothing from Sam, but a voicemail from Castiel instead. Dean held up the phone to his ear, while peeking out the curtains to see what was taking Y/N so long. He could see just a glimpse of her from behind Baby’s trunk, probably discovering all the things that were kept hidden.
“Dean, I found more information on Y/N’s family. We need to talk.”
Great. That’s always good news. Not. What the hell else could there be? He hung up and tossed his phone on the bed before setting himself down. The tiredness of every moment rolling into another problem was starting to really get to him. Every time he turned around there was something new. So badly he wanted to just ignore what it could possibly be, and just take her away from everything. Just the two of them, living the apple pie life somewhere away from all the darkness in the world.
As the door opened, Dean’s heart sank when he looked at her face. Something happened. She had been all smiles before she walked out that door. It was almost like she had discovered something she didn’t want to know in an almost empty parking lot. Did she all of the sudden regret what they had done? Or was it something else? Two things he knew for certain now. First, she was no longer to go off on her own, she always came back a little more guarded and angry. Two, Dean had to know what was going on in that mind of hers. He had to try to crack through.
As soon as she redirected his question, he knew that she was hiding something. Her damn walls were up again. Yeah his track record kind of sucked when it came to relationships, but for her, he would do anything he could to make it work. There was something more than the girl next door bothering her and the fact that she didn’t want to tell him, made Dean feel hurt. He trusted her, why couldn’t she trust him?
Moving away from the room to stop himself from saying something that he would regret, feeling used, he looked upon the sleeping girl on the bed. Hell she had to have only been 19. He couldn’t help but to wonder where they had found her? Did those dickbags take her away from a family? A home? Or was she lost like so many others he had met. All questions would be answered in time, but for now he would let her rest. The world was going to be a lot different for her when the sun came out, he hoped she could handle it.
Dean had accidentally fallen asleep for what felt like only a second when he heard a door opening. Y/N came through the door, not looking like she had slept at all. She looked over to the bed while tiptoeing quietly to the other chair by Dean. He gazed at the little clock, before glancing out the curtain to the brightness of the sun. It was officially morning now.
“Did you sleep at all?” He asked, watching her look upon the still sleeping girl.
“Couldn’t really sleep,” she stated without looking at him. “The bed was uncomfortable. How is she?”
“Same,” he replied as his eyes moved over. “She hasn’t really moved much or anything.”
“Well at least that’s not a bad sign. Hopefully she will be alright. She got lucky.”
“Yeah, that she did. There’s definitely not many people in the world that would be sitting here right now playing the waiting game.”
“People suck,” she breathed out.
“I take offense to that statement,” Dean chuckled softly.
“Well, not all people,” she rolled her eyes to him with a little grin. “I just have met a lot of crappy ones in my life. Sometimes they are worse than the monsters we hunt .”
Dean was taken back for a moment, watching Y/N stare down at the ground while she spoke. Almost like she was waiting for an argument from Dean, but he had met plenty of people in his life that made some of the uglies in the world look like upstanding citizens. He suddenly remembered something she had said back in Sioux Falls, that she had then quickly turned around into another topic.
“What did you mean, last week, when we were laying together when you said that there were other ways then to kill them?”
She looked over, her mouth dropping slightly as if she was trying to figure out another way to dodge his question. She let out a deep breath, and turned fully to him, biting her lip nervously in the process.
“You’re gonna think I’m crazy…”
“I’m not the one with the fancy degrees to make that decision there Doc,” he smiled, making her let out a soft chuckle.
“Well, okay then. Um, well with being able to see their lights, I can also see their emotions in them. It has taken practice, and a lot of close calls, but I can almost... read their intentions. Some of them just want to live like the rest of us. There are plenty who didn’t have a choice like her,” she looked over again to the young girl. “There are also ones that were born into it that just didn’t know any better because it’s the life they know. Of course, there’s also the spirits just stuck in between.”
“So what do you do then,” he coaxed for her to continue.
“Well, basically monster rehab,” she shook her head with a slight scoff at herself. “There are ways around everything. For instance, I know a werewolf pack now that runs a taxidermy business in Utah that also ships out the blood to a few vampires in the area. Some ghouls become morticians and so on. There are little communities of them all around the country of people that I’ve known. All it took was a little faith in them that they could change.”
“And what if they fall off the wagon? I mean, your fighting against their very nature.”
“Yeah, I know. I keep tabs on most of them, or at least try to. There have been some that it hasn’t worked out for… but the ones who just want to go about and stay hidden usually are the ones who step in first before any hunters catch wind. Not everyone stops to ask questions before shooting,” she raised her eye to Dean.
“Yeah, I can’t say I’m always the best at that. I’m usually more cautious, but I guess if I could see it the way you do then I’d understand a little more. I mean I’ve only know a couple of things… well people, that weren’t all bad. Like this one hunter, Garth. Nice kid, but got himself bitten by a werewolf. He married one too. As far as I know he still hunts and saves others.”
“Tooth fairy Garth?” Y/N laughed softly, not trying to disturb the girl.
“Yeah,” Dean asked in perplexity while remembering how Garth had told him over a beer that he had ganked the Tooth Fairy. “How the hell do you… wait never mind, I’m just going to assume that you just know everyone I’ve ever known for now on.”
“Certainly seems that way,” Y/N sat back shaking her head. “How have we never met until now?”
“I really don’t know. It is pretty weird, but then again what part of our lives is not considered weird already?”
“Amen to that,” she said before turning her head to the shifting noise of the bed.
The young girl was waking up, her brunette hair was tousled all over her head like she just spent the last few hours on a bender. She was wiping the sleep out of her eyes as she looked to see Y/N standing up and moving to sit next to her.
“How ya feeling kid?” She asked with sincerity in her voice.
“Awful,” she groaned. “Did it… did it work?”
“You look human to me,” Y/N smiled back at her. “What’s your name?”
“Alyssa,” she replied while softening her hair down.
“Well Alyssa, I’m Y/N. That over there is Dean,” she cocked her head over to him where he flashed back a tight lipped smile. “We’re going to get you home, but first we should probably have a little chat.”

There & Back Again - A Tourist’s Tale
Townsville to Tanawha in Seven Days - The Adventure Continues
Tumblr media
Well hello there (you good looking reader you). This week’s episode consists of our jaunt back down the coast of Queensland (after our grand Magnetic Island exploits).
I believe we left off arriving in Townsville, which proved to be (unexpectedly) chalk full of good things. Our hotel’s oceanfront location proved to be a perfect base to explore “The Strand” It’s a beautiful esplanade boasting a multitude of parks, gardens, restaurants/pubs and shops (all along the water). And, the BEST Indian Food restaurant EVER. Delish!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Townsville also happens to be home to The Reef HQ - The Great Barrier Reef Aquarium. So, of course, we had to go check that out. I admit that having the glass between us allowed me to really  appreciate critters without being scared silly!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We checked out several very cool lectures in the theatre space (it was like being on a school field trip!) and managed to snag an invite to the Turtle Hospital, where we had the sincere honour of meeting some of the patients.
Tumblr media
I gotta tell you, it was an experience I won’t soon forget. Seeing sea turtles up close, and learning about the horrible adversities these poor little guys face... Look, nature itself is hard enough on these guys, but man... Between ingesting our plastic crap (causing them to float and slowly starve) and our boat propeller’s cracking their shells (literally breaking their spines)... I felt guilty being a human being standing next to them! It was an eye opener for me. *Incidentally, Australia is banning the use of disposable plastic bags in grocery stores as of July.  We bought a water bottle and canvas bag from the Turtle Hospital too.  Perhaps the little steps will make a difference - here’s hoping!
So, that was our one day there. It was great. Finis. Then we started the looonnnnngg journey back down South - which we broke into 2 nights. First stop, Mackay.
Tumblr media
I gotta say, it didn’t knock my socks off (they barely lost their elasticity really). Now, in fairness, we arrived on a Sunday. And most of these towns hearken to the days gone by (Everything is CLOSED on Sundays) so it was a bit of an eerie ghost town. We wandered around for hours, waiting for a handful of restaurants to open for dinner. This turned into a bit of a fun game as we waltzed about all alone, like we owned the place, looking for anything interesting really! Seek and ye shall find!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seriously, take a good look at some of those street view pics. Not another soul! CUE THE TUMBLEWEED! And then you look up and there’s a bazillion cameras..... For the crazy crowds??? (I hope they got my good side. Pretty sure if I have one, they caught it! lol)
Tumblr media
We wound up hitting up the local theatre to watch the latest Avenger’s movie. And the answer to your questions are YES and YES. Yes, going to the movies is just as stupid expensive here as at home and Yes, they have a a whack of commercials prior to the movie too. It’s an epidemic! LOL
*Highly recommend the Avengers movie, btw. Plot is holier than Swiss Cheese but it’s an exciting, comedic and visually stunning ride.
So we said good bye Mackay and hit the road <Jack>. Next stop, the mining town of Gladstone. It had a cute little downtown core - BUT most everything was CLOSED... AGAIN <sigh>. Managed to find an open restaurant, ate a nice dinner & retired to the Motel (yes, I said MOTEL) Mmm hmmm, kickin it hardcore on a Monday night. All in all, it was fine. Hey, even the cockroach I discovered on the curtain in our room was friendly enough!
Tumblr media
 Good bye Gladstone!
Needless to say, we were ready to hit the road bright n’ squirrely for the final leg of our highway trip - Destination: Mount Coolum for a few days (please oh please, for the love of all things Holy, let it NOT be a ghost town!)
Okay now, remember how I mentioned that this highway was this long, desolate, life sucking thing that went on forever with nothing for 100′s of kilometers? Does that sound like a good place to run out of gas to you? Hmmm?
This is where I so regret NOT taking a picture to punctuate the whole story. But, I just couldn’t do it! I felt taking a picture, while barely containing our laughter, would have been rude. I’ll try and keep this short (promise). In a nutshell:
- I didn’t get gas when I should of. Sue me!
- The dreaded ‘yellow’ you-got-no-more-gas-soon warning sign is now alight, causing John to lean over and look at it EVERY 5 SECONDS and remind me that we really need gas, and we probably should’ve filled up ‘back there’ (ya think????)
- We ask ‘the Google’ to find the nearest gas station and followed it’s direction down a road not fit for man nor beast (this is the part in the movie where someone dies... surely!) *I should mention that the next gas station shows as approx 70 kms away!
- As John is rattling off the merits of the town we’re about to come upon “It has a race track!”, we roll onto the main street. One. Dusty. Uninhabited. Street. Where any store that may have existed 1000 years ago is now something out of a museum exhibit.
- The Google says we have now arrived at our destination. Imagine it. There’s a dilapidated HOUSE with a sun-faded sign on the side of it that looks like it may have said “GAS” at one time.. but now all you see is a faded “AS” (you have no idea how hard it is for me not to add that extra ‘S’!)
- So we keep going (there must be more down here, right?) and come to a dead end. That was it. We look at each other, say an expletive or two and turn around. “Might have to start knocking on doors and testing out that ‘Aussie Hospitality!”. Hmm... let’s take one more pass. Maybe we missed something?
- We take another pass, and bowl me over with a feather if there is not a single antique looking gas pump (on the frickin’ SIDEWALK!) in front of that old house (I cannot make this stuff up!) I don’t know how we missed it the first time?! So we park beside it. What have we got to lose, right????
- The price on the gas pump is $1.47/litre - today’s pricing... the door to the house is OPEN. What the what now?  Could it be true?? *If this is some sort of cruel joke by the locals looking for some fun - watching tourists try and get blood from a stone, I’m gonna be PISSED!
- I pick up the nozzle, it resets... ready to rock. EUREKA! We’re saved! I proceed into the ramshackle house, to pay, and am greeted by a friendly shopkeeper who runs the ‘store’. Oh yes, there’s one 2-litre jug of milk AND a single loaf of bread in the fridge for sale. AND there’s a cafe menu - fish n’ chips are on special, dontcha know! (OMG, I can’t even imagine how long that fish has been there!!!)
- I pay and we get set to leave. John and I just keep looking at each other like we may be sharing a hallucination. “The pump is on the sidewalk” John keeps mumbling. Should we have taken a picture? YES! Sorry. You’re just gonna have to trust me on this one... it was an experience!
Full of gas (of suspect age and origin) we eventually made it to Mt. Coolum - a beautiful National Park just minutes from the beach. The AirBnB space and our hosts were AMAZING!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our hosts were so sweet, leaving us chalkboard notes every day:
Tumblr media
We got to settle in and enjoy the best of all worlds again. The backyard of the house WAS the National Park and we were able to literally hike the mountain from there. It was a hell of a hike (think Grouse Grind) but well worth it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Spent some time at Coolum Beach as well and did some body boarding. It was a great place to spend John’s birthday too :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
From Coolum we also drove the nearby town of Eumundi to check out their famous Market. It was huge! Must have taken up 6 square blocks and took us hours to navigate. *How much is a parking ticket in Eumundi? Oooh, I know this one! It’s $63 AUD. Yes it is :(
Tumblr media
We had fun (despite the ticket) and found some cool items and lots of local artwork everywhere
Tumblr media
And also went back to Noosa Heads (which is hard to photograph well - sorry!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All in all, our three nights in Coolum were lovely. Great food, beach, people, hiking... and it was such a nice surprise to find a little gift bag, on the hood of our car, upon our departure. How nice is this?
Tumblr media
Then it was off to Tanawha (again). We had stayed at a beautiful rainforest B&B at the beginning of our journey (which seems like a lifetime ago!) and both John and I had been sad to leave so soon. We’d really ‘clicked’ with our hosts Liz & Steve and frankly, it’s like a 5 star resort. It’s true!. I can hear that guy from Jurassic Park saying, “We spared no expense”. So we booked an encore with them for the next 4 nights to relax and explore the Hinterlands more.  (We’ve heard the drive/scenery is to die for). Upon our arrival in Tanawha, we were greeted with MORE GIFTS!
Tumblr media
I don’t know if I can fit those paper flowers in my suitcase :(
Tumblr media
So, we’re now in the rain forest enjoying our hosts and getting ready to do MORE exploring of this beautiful country. I have actually unpacked (for the 1st time this whole trip! LOL) and am planning to milk these last few days to the last drop. It sounds like a fairytale, I know. So, I’ll admit, it’s not always this amazing feeling. There have been mornings when I really didn’t want to do anything. I’m in (what I consider paradise) and I feel BLEH. It’s happened. On more than one occasion. I miss my family. My friends. My cats. But I then remind myself that I better take advantage of opportunities (actually, I say ‘Pull your head out of your ass, it’s not a hat!’) and life goes on. Ces’t la vie :)
So, we’re in the final stretch!! Hope you’re still enjoying coming along for the ride! Hope to have more to share soon. Cheers!

A House By The Sea
Tumblr media
By Ceilidh Welsh
1. The House
The soft sound of waves drifts gently on the salty breeze behind my great grandmother’s house. Barnacled rocks and a driftwood-littered beach are just out of sight, there is just the sun singed grass and an expanse of sea that stretches to the horizon. There is a small koi pond in the backyard that has been long dry, just like the colorful buoys hanging on the cracking white fence. The house itself is light blue, two stories, plain. It is the last one on the street. Everything inside is faded and soft, filled with a thousand memories. Seven children have grown and gone, leaving a shell of peeling paint by the sea.
2. The Ghost
My GG’s house had a ghost. The moment I crossed the threshold I could feel it there, something extra, hanging in the quiet corners that you couldn’t quite see. I never encountered it myself, but it put me on edge whenever we visited. I refused to sleep anywhere other than next to my parents, and going up the creaky stairs by myself required bravery beyond compare. I didn’t mention it to my family back then, for fear of being brushed off and looked down on for being afraid of the dark. It wasn’t until my GG had passed away and my grandma was deciding what to do with the house that I discovered I wasn’t the only one who had felt something.
“Oh he’s always been there,” my grandma told me, “He used to sit on the edge of our beds.” I leaned in, eyes wide.
“Did you ever see it?” I asked breathlessly, giddy with the knowledge that I’d been right, not crazy for believing there could be something there.
“Oh yes!” she told me, “one night Tom saw him in the hallway upstairs. He thought it was our dad, come home from work. The next morning he said ‘Dad, why were you wearing that funny hat last night?’ and it turns out Dad was never upstairs at all.”
I couldn’t believe it- a real ghost. I was a little skeptical that my grandma had been leading me on to encourage my imagination, but when I talked to my mother, I got more confirmation.
“Did you ever see the ghost in GG’s house Mom?” I asked casually, expecting her to laugh or look at me funny.
“Oh yeah,” she replied, to my surprise, “Cousin Janie and I would sit in the attic and gossip while the family was downstairs. One night we were up there and I was leaning against the mirror, like this.” Here she paused to show me how she was leaning, with her hand out to prop her up.
“And then all of a sudden someone grabbed my hand, except there was no one there. I screamed so loudly and ran downstairs to my mom,” she finishes, laughing.
My mom and grandma weren’t the only ones to have experiences with the supernatural visitor either. In fact, it seemed like everyone had some sort of encounter. Cousin Jean got shoved out of the way when standing under a falling chandelier. Someone else came home to all the music boxes playing. Bookshelves were unscrewed, furniture was moved, and pages turned, all by the spirit that lived in the house. Since then, I’ve been more perceptive, seeing forms in the shadows, wondering if there are other ghosts in my life that I simply never noticed. Now that the house has been sold, and fixed up, I wonder if the spirit is still there, or if it vanished with the last traces of our family.
 3. Beef and Broccoli
My sister and I were brought up very health-conscious. We weren’t allowed to drink soda, or even juice, and we learned to like vegetables early on, artfully prepared by my father. I could never understand the children who turn their nose up at anything green.
We were visiting GG’s house along with some of the cousins, probably for Fourth of July. There were so many of us that we barely fit in the cozy dining room, and we had ordered Chinese food to avoid cooking for the masses. I, being a hungry child, was loading my plate with a mountain of beef and broccoli.
“Wow, broccoli?” a big voice sounded above me. I turned to see my uncle Ben, a muscular man with tattoos and prematurely grey hair from his time in the Air force. His piercing blue eyes were crinkled around the corners as he grinned down at me.
“I don’t think I ate vegetables until I was 20! You’re pretty special aren’t you?” I smiled back. It was the beginning of my friendship with and admiration for my cool, rebellious uncle.
He drove a motorcycle, which I was not allowed to ride on, and watched superhero movies with me, even though my parents found the violence questionable for a young girl to be ingesting. I lived for it. I was in awe of the crazy things that he did, and totally taken by his charm.
One year, when he and his wife were renovating their house, my family went to visit them in the hotel they were staying at. My cousins and I ran rampant in the halls, riding around on a stolen bellhop’s cart. Under my uncle’s supervision, we were allowed to do whatever we wanted. One night he took all of us girls out to the pool for a night swim– a very exciting idea when your bedtime is usually before the sun sets. I was in the water splashing around in a blink of an eye, but cousin Emma was afraid to get in because it was dark. Ben picked her up and mock threw her in, and she screamed in terror and clung to him. He laughed, and threw her in, piercing shrieks cut off by the water. I thought it was hilarious at the time.
4. The Lighthouse
The lighthouse was not so special. It was small, a one and a half story dwelling with a light tower poking out the top, just off the beach at the end of GG’s street. The inside was a museum, preserved for the sake of tourism, although I don’t think there was much. No, the only appeal of the lighthouse was its location. During low tide, a path stretched from the beach up to the rock upon which the structure sat, but at low tide, that path was swallowed by the waves. Though it would only take a small boat to get to the island, it greatly increased its mystique. There was something about its inaccessibility, the possibility of being trapped there, that was so fascinating. My mom and I would go to the beach to search for agates, sifting through the damp pebbles, listening to the water, and observing the lighthouse. My grandma grew up with that lighthouse, and has always wanted to live in one. It’s isolated, but peaceful. With six siblings, I can see why she wanted that.
You could pay to spend a night in the lighthouse, to experience what life would have been like as a keeper. People did it for fun, though on stormy nights it must have been a bit frightening. This was a different kind of stormy night.
Uncle Ben’s mother, my Aunt Brenda, had taken my four cousins and their mother to stay at the lighthouse. It was meant to be a fun family trip, cozy and saturated with the quaint charm of the seaside city. Instead, the visit had been tense, and Brenda left halfway through the evening, leaving Tara and her daughters alone in the small building, wondering what there was to do in a tiny house surrounded by sea. The girls were just getting ready for bed when Brenda came home drunk from gambling, and broke her arm slipping on the rocks on the way up to the lighthouse. Her abrasiveness and disregard for them drove Tara to grab her kids and drive 6 hours down the California coast to my house, where I awoke to find them the next morning, much to my surprise. I like to joke that the lighthouse sent them to me.
 5. The Ghost Returns
Later on in my life, as my great grandmother got older and passed away, things began to go missing from her house. Small things at first, like antique trinkets and silverware, but before long people began to realize they were gone. I, of course, immediately thought of the ghost.
It turns out Brenda’s gambling habit had run her dry, and she had begun to steal to pick up the slack. When confronted about it, she insisted that the items were owed to her, and anyway, they were already gone, family heirlooms traded for a few hours of fun at the casino.I wish it had been the ghost.
6. Raking Leaves
It wasn’t until Ben and Tara and their four girls moved to Berkeley to live next door to us that I found out that my uncle wasn’t the fun, relatable guy I had always thought him to be. First, it was his depressive episodes, driving him to take too much or not enough medication, eventually landing him in the hospital. Then it was the drinking. Then we found out that he was abusive. Now, when I’m raking leaves in the front yard and his car appears, the twinge in my gut tells me to go inside, for fear of what he might do. I don’t know him anymore. Perhaps I never did.
Acknowledgments
This essay would not have been possible without the help of my mother and grandmother, who were gracious enough to provide me with details that I had forgotten. Many thanks to them for sharing difficult information freely with me, despite my being young.

[TRANSLATION] NYLON Korea Magazine December 2014 issue x GOT7: boys to men
Before long, you will be a year older. How does it feel to become a man?
JB It feels as if the place you can lean on is disappearing. When you’re young, there are many people who can help take care of you, but when you become an adult, you need to be responsible for yourself. Isn’t the shouldering of all the responsibility a part of the process of becoming an adult?
Jr. Since the things you can do tend to increase more and more, it seems like it would be a feeling of freedom. Because of your status as a student, there are things that the people around you look out for you, but when you become an adult, I’m afraid that there won’t be things like that. I hope that I won’t just get older in age and remain an overgrown adult.
What do you think an adult is?
JB Being caring and understanding. It’s something that I still don’t have yet.
Yugyeom While putting themselves in another person’s shoes and being able to think like them and listening well to what they say, that is the image of an adult.
Jackson I think an adult is taking responsibility for one’s own decisions.
Jr. Enduring for a long time. I mean, when you look at adults, there’s the ‘As if it wasn’t bad enough that you’ve gotten older in age…’ Adults can also have thoughts like a child and there are even times when they act childishly. However, I think expressing that (those feelings) is the image of a child, and enduring without expressing it is an adult. However, when all is said and done, an adult is wrinkles, isn’t it! Haha.
Youngjae Isn’t being homely and resembling my serious father an adult?
Tumblr media
When you become an adult, what do you think will change?
Jackson I have them now too, but in the future, my facial wrinkles will become deeper. I will be a bit more humble, and I will more desperately realize my shortcomings.
Youngjae My outer appearance won’t be greatly different, but my inner self will be deeper.
Mark Perhaps because I was born in America, but I can’t feel any big differences. When you become an adult, there are no big differences. It’s just the situation becomes different. Unlike in America, having to do everything by yourself is a bit overwhelming. You even have to take care of your own food to eat and organize your clothes by yourself. The biggest difference is the appearance of a sense of responsibility in your daily life.
BamBam Since I’m still young, there are more things that I can’t do, but when I become an adult, I think it will feel like I can break down that wall. I’ll be like, ‘I’m free now!’
Do you have any fantasies about becoming an adult?
JB Somehow, when you become an adult, can’t you drive with one hand… When I watch dramas, the handsome main character wears sunglasses and drives with one hand. That looks cool.
Jackson When you become an adult, it’s more like your fantasies get shattered. When you are young, you don’t care when you make a mistake, but when you become an adult, the situation becomes different. If you make a big mistake, you could go to jail.
Is there a person you have admired for a long time?
Jackson While I admire my father, I also respect him because of his attitude of never giving up until the end. I want to become a person like my dad.
Yugyeom Chris Brown, who gave me the dream to become a singer. I fell in love when I watched the 2012 Grammy Awards.
Jr. Park Jinyoung PD-nim. It’s amazing that we have the same name, and we have this connection where I was born in 1994 and PD-nim debuted in that same year. We have many things in common.
BamBam It seems like Jr. hyung’s dream has come true. Ever since I was a child, I liked Rain sunbaenim. Following what my mom liked, I watched the dramas Rain sunbaenim appeared in and music shows, so I naturally came to like him. Because I was selected to become a singer while doing a Rain sunbaenim dance cover, he’s even more special to me.
JB I also wanted to meet Rain sunbaenim the most when I became a celebrity. Since our promotions overlapped, I met him once, and since his build was bigger than I had thought, I was surprised. It was to the degree that all the members were exclaiming, “So big!” He was wearing a suit and had extended his hand out for a handshake, and like a hip-hop-er, greeted us memorably with a “Yo!”
Youngjae For me, Yoo Jae Suk sunbaenim. He resembles my father. Especially the big and red nose. Haha. His personality is good, and his kind appearance is warm. Ever since the first season of <Infinite Challenge>, <Rash Challenge>, I’ve been a faithful viewer, never missing an episode. Recently, watching <Infinite Challenge> is still my greatest joy.
Mark Because I actually have no particular dream, I also don’t have a figure that I admire. To me, it’s more important that I live life to the fullest while enjoying the day.
Jackson Living as best as you can, as if today is your last. Now that I think about it, Mark hyung’s answer is really cool! The members have never, not even once, all gathered together and had a serious talk like this, so it’s awkward. We originally aren’t the serious type. Haha.
The look on your faces of unfamiliarity with each other, amazing.
Jackson Come to think of it, until now, we’ve never asked each other what do you like, what kinds of things do you prefer. In our dorms, we either joke around with each other, or we sleep after we finish our schedules since we are busy. The thing I say the most in the dorm is, “You’re not sleeping?” Haha.
If something you like were to come up, wouldn’t you want to boast about it? Also, I would think that amongst the members who have similar interests, you’d be able to communicate well.
BamBam In the past, we didn’t talk, but recently, we often talk about movies we see.
Jr. I was impressed by <Gone Girl>. It’s the best amongst the movies I’ve seen recently! You can’t help but to be absorbed by the story that repeatedly twists the twists, and since the actors act well, it was quite interesting to watch.
Yugyeom In the dorm, I watched <My Love, My Bride> with BamBam and Jackson hyung. It’s a fantasy about marriage, so while we watched the movie, we thought, if we all got married, ‘Will we change like the movie’s main character? In what order would the things change?’ Since it was a happy ending, I was pleased.
BamBam We watched it while continuously screaming. Because we really liked it and because we were excited.
JB I like movies that bring to mind memories. I enjoy watching animation. Recently, I watched the 12th Crayon Shin-chan movie <Crayon Shin-chan: The Storm Called! The Kasukabe Boys of the Evening Sun>, and I was somehow delighted by it. I’ve probably seen it more than 5 times?
Youngjae I also like animation like JB hyung. I’m a huge fan, to the point that I’ve seen every episode of <One Piece>. I enjoy watching the main character Luffy grow through his interactions with various people as he dreams of becoming the King of the Pirates. While I brood over the subject of developing into a new person, my feeling of also wanting to become like that seems to get bigger.
Mark I’m the type that doesn’t really like movies. If there is free time, the only thing I want to do is rest. Haha.
Tumblr media
What is the worst thing that has happened to you that you remember?
JB It’s not the worst incident but…. I went on a program once as a guest. In order to stand out as a main character, I should have worked hard, but I was lacking in sense. I also couldn’t do ments well…. In any case, I couldn’t do my part properly. The director even made a loud noise while saying, “You aren’t concentrating?” I’m still dizzy now, thinking of that time.
Jr. We had plans to film our mini-album music video in Thailand, but at that time, a coup d’etat happened, and there was a ban placed on entering the country. We changed the destination in a hurry and went to Malaysia to film, but the problem was that we hadn’t prepared our clothes. Up until the day before we departed from Korea, we couldn’t even do our fitting for our clothes, our hearts felt urgent, and so when we arrived in Malaysia, it became a sleepless night. When I say it now, it’s nothing, but at that time, I was worried, ‘Won’t everything get scrapped?’
Youngjae On the broadcasted <After School Club> this past year, I was supposed to read ‘Live’ as ‘liv,’ but since I said ‘la-ive,’ I became a laughing stock. After that, I have devoted myself to studying English. I also didn’t know, but I guess I have an overly stubborn personality. Haha.
Jackson Rather than the worst, I will talk about a difficult situation. Not too long ago, I was fixed to appear on MBC <Quiz to Change the World> for about three months. I’d get tired from the long recordings for 8-10 hours a day, but I still really worked hard on my reactions. Laughing, clapping, like a hot-blooded audience member. However, I did not stand out as much as I expected. I will make bigger reactions in the future!
Is there something that people have come to overestimate or underestimate you on?
Yugyeom During <Real GOT7>, I was the subject of a hidden camera. With the theme of ‘Make Yugyeom cry!’, the hyungs seriously went through with the situation. At that time, I only cried once, but people thought I was a crybaby. Every person I met would say, ‘Is it true you cry often/easily?’
Jackson People remember me for my mischievious image, but actually, I am an extremely serious person. I wanted to tell you that.
JB I’ve never thought about how people think of me, so I don’t know how I should respond.
Jr. JB hyung is exactly the same as what you see. Bad boy! Chic man!
JB But I’m not the chic style… Since I look like a cold person, I guess that modifier just stuck to me.
Yugyeom Actually, JB hyung is clumsy. He has an extremely cute side.
Like how, for example?
Yugyeom JB hyung will say, “Really, let’s do the choreography properly. You absolutely must not make a mistake,” but he will be the only one to do it wrong. He’s a hyung, but he looks cute.
Jr. JB is even funnier during promotions. He says, “Even if we have a lot of schedules, however tired you may be, let’s not sleep,” and actually, he is the one to sleep on the floor.
JB I definitely did not sleep!
Jackson There really is one more cute incident. A few days ago, I ordered McDonald’s chicken wings, but without me knowing, JB took them all and ate them. There is no proof, but I am certain of it.
JB I really didn’t eat them!
Jackson Keeping this image until the end of trying to get out of things is extremely cute. Hahaha.
Tumblr media
When do you feel, I have become an entirely different person?
BamBam When I get make-up done. When I do the cleansing, I’m surprised, thinking, ‘I look like this?’
JB When I get on stage, I get the feeling that the tendencies I originally had have changed.
Yugyeom When I dance. In the past, I was uncomfortable, and I had a very shy personality, but while doing promotions, I changed.
Youngjae When I draw. I’m not the skilled type, but some day, I want to personally design our album jacket.
Jackson I am always me. If I have to say when I become a different person, it’s when I’m in front of Park Jinyoung PD-nim. In the past, he was really scary. Because of the aura PD-nim has, I would somehow get intimidated, and I couldn’t speak properly. Probably because when you’re a trainee, you don’t know when you could get kicked out, so I was afraid of that. However, now we’ve become close to the degree that I call him hyung.
You must have been upset.
Jackson It’s okay. That’s society, after all.
Jr. Because a Hong Kong person said it like that, it’s amazing.
Jackson It’s because in Hong Kong, we have the same saying!
If you were to tell us one side of yourself that people don’t know well?
Jr. The images I have in front of friends and in front of adults are different. Even if I’m joking around endlessly with friends, if adults come, I become serious. It’s because we need to have respect towards our elders. That was a bit uninteresting. Haha.
Mark Mm, if I compare myself to my past personality, it seems a lot has changed. If what we thought was different, I would often fight with my friends, but now, even if we have the same conversation, I suppose there isn’t a big impression. Sometimes, if something happens, my friends say, “Why didn’t you get angry? You changed!” Oddly enough, I don’t really know where I’ve changed.
Rather than you being the one who changed, isn’t it the people’s attitudes towards Mark that changed?
Jackson That’s right. There is that part too. I feel that all the members before and after debut are not hugely different. If there is something that changed after becoming a singer, it’s getting on the stage, of course.
Amongst the promises the members have made with each other, what is the most important one?
Yugyeom Rather than a promise, we said that we’d go to the end with the name ‘GOT7.’ Whether we do solo promotions or units, we shall not forget one another.
BamBam Mm, we’ve made a lot of minor promises. If you eat in the living room, the person who ate has to clean up! However, there is no one who cleans.
JB We made a promise not to put toilet paper in the toilet….
Jackson Did we really make that promise? This is something I’m hearing for the first time.
JB It’s okay for your own room to be messy, but the bathroom we use together, the living room, and the kitchen need to be kept clean.
Jr. JB has a bit of mysophobia (fear of germs). Haha.
It seems like it’s been five years since your debut, and finally, you’ve released a full album.
Yugyeom I hope it goes well. The artists at our company also all liked our album.
Jackson Although I don’t feel like the album is overdue, rather than being pressed for time, I thought, let’s make this good. You can expect it to be good.
What is the song you are most attached to from this album?
JB The title song, ‘Stop Stop It.’
BamBam I also like the title song the most. My hairstyle came out well in this song too. Hahaha. The members teased me for looking like a character from a loans advertisement, but now, I like it.
Mark I’m the type that likes R&B and hip-hop and enjoys songs that are sung low. Therefore, I have a lot of attachment to ‘Moonlight.’
Jr. ‘Take My Hand.’ In my life, I had never heard a compliment saying I sang well, but with this song, I received my first compliment. I pretended to stay calm on the outside, but inside, I really liked it.
Jackson Mm, I like the songs called ‘Just Tonight’ and ‘Moonlight’ the most. Since they are the songs I personally did the rap-making for, my affection for them is great.
How do you hope people will listen to this album?
Jackson How should they listen? Do I need to say to listen with your ear?
Yugyeom Haha. Since you can’t hear it with your mouth.
BamBam I think they are good songs to sing when a man is confessing to a woman. The lyrics can be somewhat cringeworthy, but they are romantic.
JB Men should listen to our songs with a feeling of, ‘I’m being hooked like a fish by one woman.’ After all, there are a lot of parts that they can identify with.
Mark That’s right. That is this album’s concept, after all.
Jr. If you are a person who likes songs that feel old, you must listen to our album. A majority of our songs have an old-school feel to them, so you will be able to happily listen to them.
