Alhaitham and Kaveh's dynamic is interesting, because I've seen a lot of people say either "oh my god Kaveh is so mean" or "oh my god Alhaitham treats Kaveh terribly". But, quite importantly imo, in this quest Paimon remarks that she "doesn't know which one of them is more problematic".

I think when considering their relationship you need to look at intention. Do Hoyo want to villainise one of their popular husnandoes as a toxic asshole? No. Even the "villain" playable characters like Childe and Wanderer are nice/funny on occasion. Kaveh and Alhaitham's interactions are intended to be humorous, to make you gasp and say "oh wow I can't believe he just said that!".

Like, during the most recent story quest, for example. Kaveh accusing Alhaitham of having no empathy when he's clearly pretty emotionally stunted and decently moral is mean. But saying "At least I'd be a fungus with empathy!" Undercuts that - it's clear neither Alhaitham nor the player are suppose to take those words seriously.

Alhaitham dismissing Kaveh's field of work with "you work yourself to death just for a smile" is so belittling, but it's a retort to Kaveh saying his scribe job is at "rock bottom" in the Akademiya. Alhaitham isn't lashing out or trying to demean Kaveh in front of others (this interaction happens after the player has "left"); he's just continuing their verbal sparring match. I think people take this jab so seriously because it can be seen as a jab at a lot of people working out of passion, but in the context of the dialogue we're not supposed to regard it so deeply.

It's also fairly clear that nobody in game takes them seriously either. Tighnari says Kaveh is "as pent up as an anemo slime" in his Alhaitham voiceline - another funny quip - and Collei details how hard it was to suppress her laughter when Kaveh was talking about Alhaitham. Nobody thinks they're genuinely bad for one another, or that getting them separated is all that crucial.

Even the interactions in this story quest are just so silly and domestic: Kaveh can't get the painting straight, Alhaitham buys ugly furniture, they're arguing about rent and drink tabs, Kaveh is doing an unfair amount of housework and Alhaitham fucks off without entertaining his own guests. it's funny, or at least it is clearly intended to be.

I've heard that in the other dubs the VAs tones are different and it makes the lightheartedness clearer. Personally I've thought since their first interaction in the AQ that Alhaitham is having fun during their quarrels, and Kaveh is just melodramatic enough to act traumatised even if he isn't truly offended.

Then when it comes to whether their dynamic is supposed to be read platonically or romantically... Well Hoyo won't do anything canon, but it's hard to argue that there is no intentionality in how their relationship is portrayed. What other character(s) has an idle animation directly referencing their relationship with another character? How many other voicelines explicitly reference two characters as a pair? Nahida's Kaveh voiceline, Collei's, Tighnari's - I'm sure there are more. "Roommates" "senior & junior" "academic rivals" -> certainly there's a case to be made that they're just very close, but Kaveh and Alhaitham getting fifteen minutes of epilogue interaction in two different quests (where none of the content is related to either quest) says something. Fanservice, quite possibly.

Also Kaveh's line "We used to be friends, but not anymore"; I've seen plenty of people interpret this as "oh we're not friends, we're dating*". I think this is fun in fanon, but on a canon level it's basically a promise by Hoyo to fix (or explain) their current dynamic. Hoyo, for all their many faults, are detail orientated enough to follow up on such a line. Perhaps it will just be in Kaveh's voicelines/character stories, but I anticipate a future event or Kaveh hangout in relation to their bond. Nothing explicit, but more exploration. It's fairly clear Alhaitham and Kaveh are popular enough characters to warrant it.

All this to say: I have lots of thoughts. I have seen people call them toxic and (while idm the drama of that in fanon shipping) that isn't really the intended case in canon. Or, at the very least, the intention is not to to take their squabbling so seriously.

Hands to Yourself

day four and i have not broken it my streak...yet HAHAHAHA i hope you all enjoy!! i have to say, for this week, this one was the one i was particularly excited for kim jennie x idol!reader disclaimer/s : smut. i suggest going to look for fluffier or angstier content.

You'd been with Jennie since you debuted, and she was always your biggest supporter. She was always the first to hear your songs, she was there during your preparation, and Jennie was always there when you came home.

Of course she wasn't without her faults. Sometimes she would be a little more demanding, a little possessive, and what irritated your management and make-up artists the most were the obscene and difficult to hide marks all over your skin.

While in the moment, YG's princess clawing your back from the intense and unimaginable pleasure and leaving rough kisses across any patch of skin she could get her lips on was the best feeling in the world. It was difficult to argue with your management when it came to things like that.

Which lead you here.

You were days away from your group's broadcast for your album release when you visited your rather needy and very alone girlfriend after she sent you some ravishing photos of her in only a thin, oversized t-shirt that had gone missing from your closet.

You had the rapper was propped up against the wall beside her bedroom door, your lips tangled with hers as she moaned against you, hands stroking up and down your neck as the kiss grew deeper. Legs wrapped around your waist as you ground your hips into her exposed,needy center.

You feel her nails dig into the back of your neck to which you pull away reluctantly. Jennie whines cutely, making you chuckle softly. You life your hand, cupping her cheek whilst your thumb tugs at her lower lip. She pokes her tongue out, sucking on the digit.

"You are so fucking hot, Jen." You hiss before connecting your lips again as you walk over to her plush bed, kicking the door closed as to not be disturbed by her dog. You break the kiss to toss her onto the bed, her giggles breaking the seriousness of the moment briefly.

Your on your knees crawling up to her with a small smile, her hands quickly find the back of your neck again before she presses a lingering kiss over your cheek. You feel her smirk along your skin as you shudder under her touch, "I love it when you rough me up, hun." She pulls you closer while you stare at her in an aroused daze. Her lips ghost you neck before you know it, "It's so fucking hot."

As her teeth scrape the base of your neck, you jolt out of your trance. You lean down to catch her lips between yours before she can do any real damage on you. Your tongue probes her mouth, her own tangling with yours. She moans before you pull away, tugging her lower lip back as you do.

She makes quick by pulling your sweater off your body, leaving your torso exposed for her viewing pleasure. Jennie bites her lip as she eyes your body like a piece of meat, you smirk confidently. The rapper's hands danced along your sides as she leans up to kiss you again.

"Jesus Christ..." She mutters against your lips. You grin before rutting your knee against her hot center. You feel just how soaked she is through the fabric of your leggings. Jennie gasps and her hand is on your shoulder digging into the skin. You hiss softly, feeling your own center getting wet.

But you can't get in trouble with the company again.

You huff and pull away, eyes still locked on Jennie's. Feeling smug that you could barely see her irises from her lust. You tilt your head to the side, as you guide Jennie to lay down, your knee still working on the rapper's cunt leaving her a whining mess. Your hands take hers, pinning them above her head, exposing more of her creamy legs.

You smile against her ear, "You know, you've been getting me in a lot of trouble with the company from those pretty scratches you leave on me." She breathes out a laugh before briefly struggling with the grip you have on her wrists. "I'm starting to think you do it on purpose."

Jennie looks up at you with a defiant and proud smile, "People should know what's mine after all."

You lean up, pulling your knee away from her center, hands releasing hers. The rapper whines from the loss of contact but before she can put her hands on you, you snarl out, "Keep your hands where they are pretty thing."

Jennie is about to retort but it fades into a squeak as your hands find their way onto the collar of her (your) shirt and tear through it. Her eyes grow wide but she can't help the moan that slips past her lips. Her stiff nipples and taut stomach now exposed to you.

You reach a hand down, taking her small, perky breast in your hand, the flesh filling your palm perfectly. Jennie gasps and squirms as you manhandle her chest. She completely loses control when you circle her nipples with your thumbs. Her hands shoot to your wrists, applying more pressure, throwing her head back.

"What'd I say about those hands, Jennie." You husk out, tearing your hands out of her grip. She scoffs and rolls her eyes, "Maybe you could help me, bossy?"

You scoff before it dawned on you. A smirk finds its way onto your lips, Jennie felt a surge of excitement seeing that look on your face. "You've just given me the most delicious idea, pretty girl." You don't wait for her response before you tugged the wrecked t-shirt from under her and pinning her hands above her head.

Jennie blushed deeply as you tightly wrapped the fabric around her wrists and tying the other end to her bed frame. You watch her squirm around on the bed, a rush of heat filling your lower stomach seeing her so vulnerable to you. You breath out, "I didn't think you could get any hotter, Jen..."

She rubs her thighs together in attempts to relieve the ache in her core. You watch her try to helplessly and smile deviously. Jennie throws her head back hopelessly, "You're terrible, Y/n."

"You're gonna change tunes in a bit, pretty girl." You whisper before slipping out of your ruined leggings. You raise her leg, your free hand sliding down her smooth skin until you're met with a soaping center.

You smile upon hearing her whining as you touch the area around her cunt, never letting your fingers touch her where she absolutely needs it. Not yet anyway. She thrashes and tugs against her restrains while she begs for your touch in a breathy voice.

"Good things come to those who wait, Jen." You tease as you intentionally miss her cunt as you circle the area. Upon hearing your words Jennie glares at you and gritting her teeth together.

"I swear to fucking God, Y/F/N—Holy fucking shit!" With her complaints, you plunge two digits into her heat, pumping with fervor. Jennie's upper body jolts upwards, as far as her restraints would let her, with a high pitched howl. You grin satisfied, before grinding the heel of your hand into her engorged clit. "Y/n! Oh fuck me, Y/n! Yes!"

As your fingers piston in and out of your girlfriend's needy heat, your lips wrapped around her taut nipple, rolling the bud with your tongue.

Jennie struggled against the ruined fabric of the shirt, her climax imminent. Her jaw drops as incoherent panting and curses in both Korean and English falls from her lips.

You release the stiff bud from your mouth and pull her lips into yours, muffling all of her noises. Before you could tease her further, she hastily pulls away from the kiss, a raspy moan echoing through her room as her cunt tightened around your fingers with a gush of wetness.

Jennie's body is tense for a moment before she falls limply onto the bed under her, arms still up against the bed board. You peck her lips gently, her expression completely spent, before you tug the cloth off of her wrists.

"Oh I am soooo sorry, baby." You coo softly before she slaps your chest gently while chuckling tiredly. There's a silence before she whispers a soft, "I love you."

Your smile softens before you leave a light kiss over the crown of her hair, "I love you too."

You feel her lips curl into a smile before she cuddles impossibly closer as you stroke the small of her back, both of you falling into a deep and relaxed sleep.

TAYLORS TIK TOK HINTS TO TTPD AND DEBUT (TV)?

Taylors Swift's phone region is set to a country with the spelling of Favourites with a "u" instead of the US spelling of Favorite

Probably British English. Is this a hint to something?

The only photo there in Favourites is of her fingernail colors. All albums of these colors are re released as Taylor's Version except Debut. Will Debut (Taylors Version) be announced in Europe? Her overalls are also floral and resemble that of the debut era.

Plus, the only one in New is her with patches on her sleeve, a nod to the patches in the Album Variants? I made another post on this.

ALSO, the albums "Favourites" and "New" Across from each other each are 1's. Which together make 11, TS11.

ALSO, ALSO, if true about Debut, then Debut is Album 1 in her discography and TS11 is NEW!! Which would Explain the 1 photo in each album. Plus, She's in the section of photos called ALBUMS.

Favourites ablum = Debut, her favorite albums, her name. and NEW for literally her new album.

Still not sure yet what the album "NEW" with 200 photos is other than maybe the reactions of everyone listening to TTPD??

My only other guess with the Numbers is that 5,688 & 200 are all in one line at the top. Because the 5 is before the comma this would be the month, so MAY and 6+ 8+ 8+ 2+ 0+ 0 = 24 Which would then be MAY 24 (5/24) Taylor has a Eras Tour Date here for Lisbon, Portugal w/ Paramore. This could be a possible announcement date for Debut TV as this is in Europe, or something else...?

5+ 2+ 4 = 11 for TS 11 BUT if you do (5/24/2024) that 5+2+4+2+0+2+4=19 and 24-5= 19

APRIL 19 Release Date of TTPD - This one might be a grasp, but still the numbers somehow add up.

THEN --- If you add up all the numbers on her albums screen you have: 5+ 6+ 8+ 8+ 2+ 0+ 0+ 1+ 1 = 31 ...The age Taylor was in 2021 which is when she probably started TTPD and apparently created the song/masterpiece: "you're losing me". (she still would be 31 at this time because she wouldn't turn 32 until December that year)

And 31 backwards is 13.

AND HEAR ME OUT - HER CATS ARE THE INSPIRATION FOR THE TTPD ALBUMS COLOR SCHEME because who better to work at The Tortured Poets Department then the Itty Bitty Pretty Kitty Committee. Can't Spell Cats without TS.

Big dumb album of the year post, here we fucking go:

Punk

A lot of the punk releases that crossed my radar this year were really hardcore-y hardcore or weak-ass "indie punk" shit, and that doesn't do a lot for me. And like, who cares if Rancid are still making music? Does Tim Armstrong even need any more money at this point?

This year I liked All Together Now from Cop/Out and All Riot from Angry Youth Elite. GEL's Only Constant sadly wasn't a patch on 2021's Violent Closure (though I did get to see them live and they put on a hell of a show), and I look forward to seeing Killing Daisies develop their sound following a pretty strong debut with Break the Silence. The HIRS Collective are at their best at their grindiest IMO, but I still liked lots of We're Still Here. Slutbomb's EP Commodified Identity is exactly what I want punk to sound like, but this year's winner is Dog Park Dissidents with their debut The Pink and Black Album.

I've talked before about my frustration with the state of queer punk at the minute, which largely seems to consist of didactic lyricism, indie-pop influences, and the basics of liberal feminism presented as radical politics. Not so with Dog Park Dissidents: their lyrics are frequently funny and occasionally surprisingly emotive, their political content is incisive, and while we're not talking face-melting blast-beats here, the songs are genuinely entertaining. Half of the songs on this album have more to say than the entire discographies of some punk bands, and are pretty catchy too.

Favourite tracks: Rainbow Drones, Host, Class Struggle

Grindcore

I haven't listened to much new grind this year; I don't know what releases have even happened. There must be some good stuff that passed me by - let me know what I missed!

The Full of Hell collaborations weren't really my thing, but Haggus' EP What's Your Excuse was great as ever. Sometimes trawling bandcamp you can strike gold such as Coming Apart from Tolerances Of The Human Face In Crash Impacts or Human Decay from Rancid Stench. There was only ever gonna be one winner this year, however, and it's Gridlink's Coronet Juniper.

What can I even say about this? Gridlink have done it again. Somehow, even after guitarist Takafumi Matsubara's stroke in 2014, they've managed another album that's almost as perfect as Longhena. Their "technical grindcore" sound is unique and electrifying; Gridlink are untouchable. Nobody sounds like them. I'm blown away.

Favourite tracks: Silk Ash Cascade, Anhalter Bahnhof, Octave Serpent

Black Metal

It's been a fucking good year for black metal.

Between Panopticon's The Rime of Memory, Underdark's Managed Decline, Blackbraid's Blackbraid II, and Trespasser's Αποκάλυψισ, there's been plenty of excellent releases to keep me busy (can you tell I got into this through RABM?). I thought the production felt a little thin on the final Dawn Ray'd album, To Know the Light - the lack of a bassist hurt here, more than on any prior release - but I had the good fortune to be at the album release show, and it was the best gig of my entire fucking life, so this album holds a special place for me. Sad to see these guys go.

Fadheit's EP Afterglow deserves a special shout-out for carrying the torch of Lifelover's brand of depressive black metal, a sound I'll never get enough of. Probably everyone's black metal album of the year is going to be Saturnian Bloodstorm by Lamp of Murmuur, and that's well-deserved. This is possibly the best Lamp release yet, and I'm very into the freezing Immortal-esque guitar tone on this one. I'll be going back to Saturnian Bloodstorm for a long time, but the album I've actually enjoyed the most this year is Immortal themselves, with War Against All.

It's a rare enough thing for a band to keep releasing quality music for thirty years - even Darkthrone have had their misses - but Immortal are still going strong. You could be forgiven for phoning it in at this point, but I don't get that impression: as much as black metal can be "fun," I feel like Demonaz is still having fun, and I had a lot of fun with this album too. If you like black metal, there's plenty to like here.

Favourite tracks: No Sun, Return to Cold, Wargod

Ska

Ska is going from strength to strength right now; the past few years have been some of the genre's best in a long long time. This year I was delighted to see Mustard Plug releasing music again with the excellent Where Did All My Friends Go? and I enjoyed a lot of Poindexter's upbeat ska-pop debut album Treats. I scratched my ska-punk itch with Public Serpent's caustic The Bully Puppet and HEY-SMITH's frantic Rest in Punk. Popes of Chillitown's latest Take a Picture has something for everyone, drawing from about a hundred genre influences.

Still, my favourite ska album of this year is Plastic Presidents' debut Good Times Can't Last.

Please, please, do yourself a favour and listen to that opening track. This is one hell of an attention-grabbing debut, without a single skip on the tracklist, covering dancey 2-tone-era ska-punk through to aggressive skacore. If this was the only album they ever released, they'd have earned a spot in my pantheon: I'll be following eagerly to see what they do next.

Other

This "category" is one hell of a grab bag, but I don't know where else to put Tomb Mold, one of the only death metal bands I unreservedly love. Their most recent release The Enduring Spirit is sure to end up on a lot of album of the year lists.

The Nearly Deads' We Are the Nearly Deads is pretty much what I want rock to be (that is, completely without trace of any fucking metalcore influences!). I have a soft spot for symphonic metal, and Chapter III - Downfall from Ad Infinitum hit that spot this year. Finally, while I preferred Brave Murder Day-era Katatonia, I still like the goth rock thing they've been doing basically ever since then, and Sky Void of Stars is one of their better albums in that vein.

My left-field pick for Album of the Year, however, is Shit Present's What Still Gets Me.

I usually can't stand the kind of thing that's just punk-adjacent enough for the algorithms to insist on trying to force it into my ears. I didn't expect to like this, either - but it's really, really good. Like, I should hate anything you can describe as "emo-pop," but I don't, here. I love it. The songs are so well-crafted, the vocals so perfectly-delivered; there's an energy and emotion to this album that's had me listening to it on repeat since May.

Check it out: it's the best album of 2023.

What Did I Do In 2022?

Game Translations That Aren't YTTD: 1. Okay, maybe 1.5.

----

First of all, while I didn't add it until later in the year (not entirely unmotivated by the Stability of Platforms), my site now has an RSS feed for notable updates of any kind! I mention this upfront because I'm mostly just going over the things that are already listed there. It currently retroactively covers everything back to 2020, but I might add more past stuff over time so it can better serve as a general "everything I've ever done" page.

In February, I translated Kenshi Yonezu's POP SONG (and an interview). Noel The Mortal Fate Seasons 1-7 also got a revamped version on consoles (Switch, PS4); the console versions include a new Season 3.5 translated entirely by me, and the rest of the seasons have a revised script which is more thoroughly edited by me than even the redone Steam translation was.

In March, the update adding Kai to Your Time To Shine came out. Yes, he is Kai.

In April, I finally finished up my unofficial Japanese translation patch for Petal Crash. たのしいね、クラッシュ！ It actually just got some extra attention after the Petal Crash run for RTA In Japan about two days ago, which is kind of wild. Is this what it's like to be famous...? (clueless)

In May, I translated Kenshi Yonezu's Shin Ultraman theme song M87 (interview, interview), and the coupling song from the single, ETA. And there was an article about the 10th anniversary of his debut!

Also in May, the Ib remake came out on Steam in English! Told you they'd contact me. It was later announced to be coming to Switch, scheduled for March 2023.

In August, Your Turn To Die was announced to be coming to Steam. It's planned for early 2023, but to be clear, it'll release first in Early Access still with no final part, though with some exclusive mini-episodes and character profile sheets. Apparently once that's out, the actual completion is estimated for 6 to 12 months later... but, you know. Estimates are hard.

In September, I put together a guide for and officially "released" my Custom Translation Engine plugin for RPG Maker MV, the one I made for the Ib remake, and back-implemented into Your Turn To Die shortly after I was contacted about it coming to Steam. It's fancy (in-game language switching!), convenient (minimal direct editing of code!), and you can use it for your own translation projects if you want!

In October... well, I didn't do anything new for it, but I'll take credit for The Witch's House MV coming to consoles. (Switch, PS4, Xbox) I also translated everyone's favorite Chainsaw Man opening KICK BACK, associated interviews, and the single's coupling song Y'all Should Be Ashamed.

Finally, in December, after lots of spending my time elsewhere and indecision about how I should go about returning to doing some dang free game translations, I concluded that what I'd really wanted to do all year was translate Uri's PEDESTAL.

I think some people latched onto specific parts of Uri's original explanation for why it wasn't being translated, such as the cultural aspects (I honestly winced at her blunt remark that the story was "no good at all"), but while Uri indeed had those doubts at the time of release, the only real reason it wasn't translated at the time is that I did a less-than-ideal rushed playthrough that slightly hurt my overall impression of its quality, and I felt too busy at the time to work on something with lots of text that was likely to be divisive. So similarly, me finally feeling up to it was the reason it did get translated. I probably should've come back to it quite a bit sooner (after I was made to give up a certain other translation, say), but as I alluded to in last year's post, I was self-conscious about "my big return to free game translations" being something that might not have wide appeal. Uh, glad to be past that, hopefully.

Oh, and ever since finishing PEDESTAL, I've been working on all sorts of overhauls to my site, but like... not the kind that actually majorly changes any part of the visible design and annoys people (and if something did change in an annoying way, it's probably accidental). Some of it's just better consideration of mobile browsing (stuff like images or tables sticking out of bounds at mobile resolutions), or making things more convenient for myself behind the scenes (did you know I made a program to add "br"s to every line of all lyrics content before considering I could just have the page code do that, and also better?).

Some more major observable changes include general renovations to the lyrics page (bigger font size, buttons that hide individual languages to aid in side-by-side comparison), and more convenient navigation of OSTER's tweets, such that I could actually imagine someone reading through them all the way from the start without it being too much of a hassle.

While I'm glad to be over the PEDESTAL hump, I don't... necessarily have any definite plans for upcoming free game translations. I mostly just have some stuff on a list that I may have to make myself check out soon enough. Also, Game Atsumaru (which you may know as The Site That Hosts YTTD's Japanese Version) is ending in June??? So uh, might have to accelerate checking out stuff on there, though I guess it depends on how many creators are able to migrate. (Nankidai does plan to put YTTD's Japanese browser version up somewhere else.)

As I mentioned, Your Turn To Die's Early Access release on Steam should be coming up early next year with those mini-episodes and character profiles, and the game might be completed within the year. No promises. I mean, I don't have anything to promise, it's not my game.

Speaking of my game... also no promises. But I'd really like to release one. We'll see what happens. There's also a different kind of original project I recently returned to trying to make real, which could come early in the year, but who knows. As should be apparent, I'm working on a lot of different fronts here, so I frequently feel bad about neglecting such-and-such type of creative work, which sometimes means nothing actually gets done and released. Ultimately, though, it's probably better to follow what I most feel like doing, rather than force focus on one thing and end up not actually getting much done.

Which is to say: hoping to finish something in the new year!

Wait I just realised.

Fontaine has a surplus of characters waiting for us (Sigewinne, Clorinde) and yet next patch we're only getting Chiori, who I'm pretty sure is a 4-star.

That implies that next patch isn't majorly related to Fontaine's characters and that they're reserving Clorinde and Sigewinne for their own dedicated patch. Which means next patch must be one of a few things:

windblume/Mondstadt patch

Hexenzirkel

Dainslief quest

Irodori Festival rerun

New area in another nation.

because Chiori has to be released at some point and just after her debut patch would be the best time, same as Mika. But if that patch is reserved for something else then that means it's not a good idea to release the more important Fontaine characters then because they won't get the right spotlight, right?

Songbird - Jaskier

Summary: A songbird has been interrupting Jaskier’s performances, and he’s not about to let the little creature get away with it. Little does he know it’s not a wild bird at all, but someone’s pet. Yours.

Word Count: 1,120

Warnings: Jaskier gets a little salty? Idk, that’s about it for this one.

It was a marvelously sunny day and the local townspeople took to Jaskier's singing with bright smiles and fairly generous donations of coin. All was well at this stop of his tour of the region's villages. That is, all was well until he was interrupted by a rather uninvited accompanist.

An unseen bird twittered from somewhere not far off, and though quaint, it’s volume pierced through the sound of Jaskier's lute and that of his voice as well. And Jaskier would not sit back and let himself be upstaged. Setting his lute down to rest against the large shade tree, Jaskier shielded his eyes from the sun and squinted up into the trees, trying to spot his feathery rival.

The bird fell quiet before Jaskier could locate it. He let out a huff of indignation and picked up his lute once more. Perhaps the creature was done vexing him. He plucked a few strings, retuning the instrument for his next song. He even paused momentarily to see if the bird would begin it’s own song again, but nothing. All was quiet.

With a satisfied grin, Jaskier began to play the first few chords of his next piece. It was a new one, and he was finally ready to debut it to his adoring public. But, as he went to open his mouth to release the first word, the bird beat him to it. Now, Jaskier thought, this was personal.

"Hey," he shouted up into the dense leaves of the tree, well aware that he probably sounded like a madman. "I don’t come around here and ruin your songs. Pick a different tree, you…you…pest!" At his outburst, the small crowd that had gathered to hear him play had dispersed. When Jaskier turned around to find his audience fleeing, he decided words were no longer enough.

Careful to place his lute where no one would think to look to steal it, he put it in a nearby patch of bushes, even covering it with some small sticks and leaves, while he took to climbing the tree to give this bird a piece of his mind and a good shooing. Finally, after his heart skipped a beat at almost slipping on his way up, he made it to a sturdy branch and found the bird that had been irking him so.

"You," Jaskier pointed at the creature with dramatic pause, "are going to leave me to play in peace. I am trying to earn coin to survive and you’ve no need for it." Jaskier began to edge closer to the bird that only seemed to regard him with disinterest. "Therefore," Jaskier went on, "I have more right to be here than you." Still the bird seemed unfazed by Jaskier's pursuit of it, no matter how much closer he inched.

"Cimmaron," called a voice from below. It sounded far off yet, but also as if it was heading in his direction. The bird's attention turned to the sound of this voice, and Jaskier took the opportunity of its distraction to reach out for it, but he was still too far away and only ended up throwing himself off balance. "Cimmaron," the voice called again, and the as Jaskier fought to hang onto the branch, the bird fluttered off towards the sound of the call.

Jaskier cursed under his breath at his quarry's escape and yet the anger faded as the panic of the inevitable fall sank in, and in a moment, Jaskier hit the ground with a loud thud.

"Oh my goodness," came the sound of that same voice, though now slightly muddled by the ringing in his ears from the drop. "Are you alright? What were you doing up there?"

Jaskier attempted to get up before answering, but found himself a bit off balance. You reached out your hand to him and he grabbed on, almost pulling you down instead of aiding himself in getting off the ground. When he was steady on his feet at last, he gave you a once over.

"Is that thing your pet," he asked, after spotting the same bird he was just pursuing sitting perched on your shoulder.

"I believe I asked you a question first, but yes, it is. So what were you doing up in that tree?"

"I was trying to chase off that little cretin from the place I was trying to perform at. I almost had him before you showed up."

At this, your bird let out a shrill chirp of distress. You turned to him, only seeing Cimmaron from your periphery vision, but it was clear he was not a fan of this man who went so far as to chase him out of a tree.

"Who keeps a bird as a pet anyway," Jaskier questioned, a bit miffed.

"Who climbs a tree to drive off a bird singing its natural song," you rebutted.

"Alright, perhaps I was a bit out of line," he admitted. Though his voice was low, you were able to make out his halfhearted attempt at an apology.

"Oh so you’re not completely heartless," you teased. "I must admit, it was partially my fault as well. It was quite warm last night and I left the window open and fell asleep, so Cimmaron flew off in the night. I’m only happy he wasn’t hurt."

"Were you insinuating that I’d hurt a living creature? A fly perhaps, but a bird? Never." He sounded sincere this time at least, if perhaps a bit overdramatic with his declaration.

"I was implying no such thing, though to be fair, I don’t know you at all, so how was I to infer your intentions with Cimmaron? It's quite clear that you aren’t fond of one another."

"Then let me not be a stranger any longer. The name is Jaskier. Traveling bard."

"You sing?"

"I do. My lute is in the bushes."

You raised an eyebrow at that one, as it seemed an odd place to store an instrument. "And what’s it doing there," you inquired.

"Safe keeping while I was climbing the tree. Didn’t get stolen or crushed from the fall."

You smiled. "Clever then, I suppose. And it explains why Cimmaron took roost there. He loves to sing when I do, so it probably felt familiar to him."

"You sing as well," he asked, eyes brightening at the mere thought.

"I’m no professional, but I do enjoy it."

"Perhaps you’d be agreeable to a duet to assure you of my sincerest apologies," he kindly offered.

"If you’re sure I wouldn’t be a nuisance," you joked.

"I deserved that. Cimmaron can join in as well. Promise I’ll be civil."

"Then I’d love nothing more than to join you in a duet."

Hi friend! I love your posts et. I was wondering, what are your headcanons about ages of our favorite machines? How old they are in your opinion?

Answering this super late but I needed the distraction (been very on edge about my physical health as of late, not fun DX)

But to answer your question here, I suppose I'll compile a sort of random list on character ages or age ranges:

If we're going by favorites, my helicopter OTP is definitely taking the top of the charts. Per the time of the film (and assuming Nick would have even been alive) they'd both be in their late 50s to 60s

Dusty is my second choice, as the youngest of the base and most all the field. He was 21 during his debut race in the WATGR, and 24 during the time he joined Piston Peak (if you're wondering about the gap, there were three years of racing days between Dusty's films even though they released 11 months apart, SO Planes 1 """technically""" is from 2011 and the sequel 2014.

Wind is just a lil bit older than Blade, just a couple years. He and Maru are super close in age and only off by a few months.

Cabbie is actually the oldest member of the base, easing into damn close to his first triple digits (and grumbling about it)

Dipper is older than Dusty by a fair bit, she's in her late 20s, closing into 30 by the time Dusty joins the PPAA

All the Smokejumpers (current, anyways) are in a range from 30 (Drip) to 36 (Blackout). Not super old honestly, but then again a lot of active Smokejumpers *usually* aren't. Usually.

Patch is between the SJ and Blade, about 50 on the dot.

For the non-PPAA characters, Skipper's around 100+, Chug is 30, Sparky's about 60-ish, Dottie is about 32ish

If y'all want I could try my hand at some ranges for Cars characters too though I'm less involved in that side of the sky. But it's open to do!

SpaceSave is now 5!

Please, try to enjoy this anniversary art.

So, yeah - my first game - SpaceSave - was released on this day, half a decade ago. You probably don’t know what I’m talking about, in that case - welcome! I hope you’ll bear with my ramblings and shilling attempts.

What can I say - as mentioned before, this is my first game. It’s ugly as sin, janky(and only partially because of RPG Maker) and edgy. Patches could only do so much. But, it was, ultimately, my debut title, one I’ve spent a little over 2 years developing and so - it’s hard to me not to have fondness for this messy, little game. I’ve learnt a lot during its development and it gave me a ground work for my other games, which share a lot of the same DNA and design elements - counsciously implemented or not...

Still, I’m glad there are people who played and enjoyed the game. It’s nice to see someone else who can vibe with the work, even if it’s far for perfect. And I hope more people will happen to experience it too, especially since for a long time I’ve been planning a new version or even a remaster, with the main goal to greatly update the visuals, add original music and improve some more... notorious elements. I think the game is very playable in its current state, on the latest version 1.4 , but it could certainly benefit from this “ultimate polish”.

I’ve been promising it for years at this point and I know it’s a long time coming, but just this year I’ve managed to finish my second big game - SUNSET RAIN - and I am now in process of translating it to English. It will take at least half a year, or even more time, but after that - I guess it will be a good time for me to finally return to this violent, "semi-surreal” cosmic horror story, starring kids, aliens and bad humour. Hopefully, this will finally bring you a definitive edition of SpaceSave - one, I think, I’m finally ready to make, with my current dev experience.

Anyway, this is getting a little long-winded. I want to thank everyone who’ve played SpaceSave and I hope you enjoyed your time with it! And if you didnt... give it a try, if you want! It’s been five years but it’s never too late!

Today's compilation:

The Wild Bunch (18 Metal Masters) 1985 Heavy Metal / Thrash Metal / Glam Metal / Progressive Metal / Speed Metal / Hard Rock

Oh man, I swear that I'm about to go to my local thrift store to buy a denim jacket and then tear its sleeves off and start securing patches to it with safety pins after listening to this thing. Back in 1985, the cassette-only, New York-based ROIR label, in conjunction with Hit Parader Magazine, put out this ephemeral mid-80s snapshot of all things metal, from the glam to the prog to the speed to the thrash, and it just goes so satisfyingly hard, you guys 😤👊🤘. If you were a metalhead in the 80s, this feels like something you'd definitely pop into the tape deck of your boxy red sedan and then cruise on into your suburban high school's parking lot with, looking like a total badass with the volume cranked up and the windows rolled down. It's really such a whole goddamn vibe 😎.

A lot of folks rightfully make fun of most of the stupid and inane hair band material that ruled the Sunset Strip back in the 80s, and, outside of the thrashing big four of Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, and Slayer—the latter three of whom appear on this album itself—that highly commercialized sound does really seem to have defined what 80s metal was for most people. But the heart of that enormous, MTV-aided boom really occurred a little after the release of this tape, so what you end up getting here is a bunch of sweet tunes that, unless 80s metal is already your domain, you probably haven't ever heard before.

And one really need look no further than this cassette's tone-setting opener for a prime example. "Pull the Trigger," by Seattle's Q5, is just a quintessential piece of some straight-up hard and heavy 1980s rock music if I've ever heard it before. These guys reunited in 2014, but prior to that, they had only managed to put out a pair of albums in the mid-80s. And on this particularly fierce tune from their debut LP, lead singer Jonathan Scott K. sports an impressive and passionately scratchy yell that smacks of a higher-pitched Brian Johnson from AC/DC. And, of course, the song also comes with a kick-ass guitar solo too.

Then, not too long after that, we get another band that also only put out a couple albums in the mid-80s before getting back together: a quintet of speed demons called Agent Steel, whose absolute fit of fury, "Taken by Force," should have you going totally ballistic by the time the back-to-back solos hit. It's just so utterly jaw-dropping what these guys were able to conjure up with all their energy in that one 🤯.

And then another fast gem on here happens to come from—say it with me now—yet another band that only blessed us with a pair of albums in the mid-80s before they ended up reuniting too: LA's Abattoir, who provide a swifter cover of one of speed metal's biggest ever commercial hits, "Ace of Spades," which is originally by the band that many regard to be the first ever in speed metal history, Motörhead. Basically, if you love the original version of this song, I don't really see how you couldn't love this newer one too. It's high-octane fuel for a flying-motorcycle-riding skeleton whose skull is perpetually on fire, which, in other words, means that it's a total banger 🔥.

So, outside of the dumb and tacky hair metal hits that the irony-poisoned side of me really can't help but love, I've never been much in the habit of actually listening to quality 80s metal before. But this little cassette tape here appears to have opened up something of a brand new world for me. I always assumed that there was good 80s metal out there outside of the big four, but I never really seemed to have found much of it; until now 🙂.

Last year I only did a 2x2, but I listened to a lot of fantastic EPs this year and wanted to include more of them :)

Bloodsport EP - Protocol (2019)

Literally one of the best hardcore punk releases of all time. One of the best punk releases in general, honestly. So fucking apt, so hard-hitting, so hardcore.

Top Track: De-Militarized Zone

Horrors of 1999 - Ho99o9 (2015)

This one might be my favorite Ho99o9 release? It leans very much into the punk edge of their music which is more to my personal taste, though I've consistently loved everything I've heard from them.

Surf - Goth - Desmond Doom (2022)

I've seen this artist described as 'Joy Division meets The Smiths' which is a red flag if I've ever seen one, but I can't deny that the music is fantastic. The kinda 'doomerism' lyrical content is really not for me but I love the sound.

Crime as forgiven by - Against Me! (2001)

A lot of what's on here is earlier versions of tracks that would end up on Reinventing Axl Rose, but for the first ever Against Me! release (to my knowledge?) this shit is so fucking good. I'm a huge fan of this version of the tracks that would eventually be remastered for debut album, but the tracks unique to this release are absolute treasures as well. Really worth a listen.

An artist I discovered from them making the first (and only good) Walten Files fansong! I Hadn't listened to any of their original music until this year, but I'm very glad I did eventually!

Stone Fruit - Left at London (2022)

A very new sound for Left at London, very low-fi, but it really really clicks with me. This is on-par with TIAPFYH to me.

Why does Japan have such a kickass hardcore scene? Why is Malimpliki specifically so fucking good? Can their music be slightly more accessible than their one Bandcamp EP and the angels who dump their music into YouTube please?

The long-awaited debut Tassel EP...... and god it lives up to expectation. I only just listened to this one for the first time so I'll need another few listens to really settle on my opinion and what I love about it, but I already know these are going to be some of my favorite songs for the next long while.

ODD EYE CIRCLE

《Teaser Breakdown》

First, a disclaimer

We do not know how connected this will be to the old lore. It's been a long time since jj left BBC, so even if they tap in to the old lore, it will not be the full ot12 timeline we've grown accustomed to. There are only five members currently under Modhaus, so it's a given that the lore will be different if not entirely scraped. For now, we will only assume the past Odd Eye Circle lore is canon or referenced, and not consider members signed to other companies.

Now, let's take a look at the teasers.

On June 14th, 15th, and 16th, the first teasers of (in this order) JinSoul, Choerry, and Kim Lip were released:

In these teasers we get a dark, elegant vibe, with each of their odd eyes covered by eye patches. Choerry ties a business man's shoes together, and behind Kim Lip, people in business attire dine, seemingly not noticing Kim Lip. She is either not there for aesthetic reasons, or supernatural ones. Present, but undetected.

The next set of teasers were dropped on June 25th, 26th, and 27th:

We see the girls sitting on a table in the middle of a dark, blue washed mansion. Fifteen people surround them, five in matching suits with masks, ten in other business attire with their faces revealed. On the table are various foods and things, including mangoes, bread, flowers, a perfume bottle, etc. There are only three chairs at the table. Notably, Kim Lip has twelve hair clips in her hair.

On June 28th, we received our first video teaser:

At first, everything is in black and white as a radio switches between old oec songs. The first oec debut date (2017-09-21) and the new oec debut date (2023-07-12) slowly float across the screen towards each other. When they meet, everything glitches again, and a black screen with three dots says, "Did you wait?". We then see the following galaxy shot of (in this order) Kim Lip, JinSoul, and Choerry's solo debut dates.

Then, we get a flash of the same shot but negative, making the colors a neon blue, bright yellow, and lime green.

As the video plays the Version Up logo in a few different black and white filters, we get a shot of a moon in a warping background as odd eye circle slowly goes over the scene, then becomes three moons. In the background, we hear what could possibly be a teaser of a new song.

On July 2nd, we got a set of teasers with a very different vibe:

Choerry's Teaser:

The background is baby blue

Her earring is the mobius strip.

She is the only one concealing her odd eye and not looking into the camera. Instead, she is looking through a diamond.

Her visible eye is a deep blue.

Kim Lip's teaser:

The background is baby pink.

She is holding a glass orb (or perhaps a crystal ball) with both hands.

Her eyes appear the same and are pink.

JinSoul's Teaser:

The background is light yellow.

She is holding what appears to be a small glass ball on a string.

Unlike the other two, her teaser is shrouded in a yellow dust, obscuring parts of the photo.

Notably, the teasers could be the pastel versions of the three modern primary colors, yellow, blue, and magenta.

Here is the teaser inverted, for a moment of speculation:

Choerry is now washed in red, Kim Lip blue, and JinSoul a purple/blue. Some have seen more orange or seafoam green, but in my opinion, Choerry and Kim Lips colors are very much red and blue. JinSoul's is more so up to interpretation, but when color picking from it, it appears closer to the purple section of the color wheel. We will return to this after looking at the most recent teaser.

The most recent teaser, posted on July 3rd:

This video teaser is much shorter than the first, but reveals a good amount about the music video for Air Force One. We see the girls riding in a van at night with the five masked girls from before. When the van stops, the oec members get out, with JinSoul carrying a cake. JinSoul throws the cake over her head as they walk to the camera, and the video ends.

Prior to the release of Super Mario 64 DS, Yoshi had been seen wearing hats similar to those of the Mario Bros. in external media beforehand.

In the seventh and final chapter of the Super Mario World manga by Kazuki Motoyama, also known as KC Mario, Mario and Luigi adopt Yoshi as an honorary third Mario brother, and he's given a yellow cap with a solid black "Y" on it. As part of the mangaka's style, all of the bros' caps have yellow patches rather than white ones. This precedes the eventual debut of Wario in 1992.

Released only in Japan in August of 1993, the Super Mario Compact Disco was an album of rap remixes of different Mario tracks produced by the Ambassadors of Funk, the most well-known of these being an arrangement of Super Mario Land's overworld theme. On the cover of this album, Yoshi is seen as a DJ wearing an orange cap with a green "Y" on the back of his cap.

Just saw a vid saying the new WoW expansion is going to expand race/class combinations, beginning with Mage, Priest, and Rogue. Looking over the combos, since DK, Hunter, and Warrior are already universally available, that leaves the following:

Demon Hunter: I'm unsure if they'll restrict this to OG elves, expand it to elves in general (easy fix), or give to everyone. The biggest issues are adding horns and maybe wings because the tats aren't going to be difficult at all and the demon forms aren't race-specific.

Druid: Undoubtedly the hardest one to universalize due to WoW's decision to make the shapeshifted forms race-specific. (In WarCraft III, Druids of the Talon used the generic raven/eagle model, but had it colored purple; Druids of the Claw kept their hair and beards. Thus, it's precedent, but it's minor and didn't need to exist anyway.) The simplest solution would be to allow for shapeshift form customizations, but the established precedent means that each race will have to have individualized forms.

Monk: Only Lightforged Draenei and the Cata races (still) can't be Monks. Monks have their own animations, which in theory would make this class difficult to make universal. However, Draenei can already be Monks, so there's no reason Lightforged can't be, and Goblins share a skeleton with Vulpera, so their animations would be the same. That leaves Worgen. I suspect this patch will come quickly, perhaps alongside the Pally/Shaman/Warlock one (see below). However, I bet Blizz will release classes in groups of two or three, so I'd wager this will get held back until Druid (and maybe Demon Hunter) get expanded options.

Paladin, Shaman, and Warlock: These will probably be the second wave of expanded options, since they require nothing specific except the Shaman's totems, which should be easy to design (requiring few animations). Paladin and Warlock were probably held back so that Shaman wouldn't debut alone.

What I bet this will do is secure the human/elf domination of the servers, especially once cross faction play becomes a thing.
