I remember that when Sanji saves Luffy from drowning in the live action, a lot of people thought it was just the Arlong Park scene happening one arc earlier... but it isn't. I'm pretty sure the live action scene is based on this one.

People tend to forget this, myself included, but Luffy falls into the water after defeating Don Krieg and Sanji is the one pulling him out.

The way learning about the vinsmokes and sanji's childhood re-contextualized so much about him hit me like a truck and i still reel when i remember that feeling

"You can die for your pride if you want, but listen - if you eat and survive, won't that give you the opportunity to fight for pride truly worth having?"

"Give up your ambition and live!"

"When he's fighting, he's not afraid of anything. Not even death."

These three lines stick out to me the most when thinking about sanji, but also the progression of these three lines too. Sanji says that first line to a starving man and it's sensible, it's wise. Live to fight another day, and all that. And the second line seems reasonable too, on its own. Why throw your life away when you know you won't win? It is a waste. But it also clashes with the heart of the scene - of zoro putting his life on the line for his dream. If this fight is the ultimate goal of zoro's ambitions, the point of his whole life, how can he just walk away? Because this is the thesis of the series - that extraordinary dreams are worth risking it all. Luffy says himself, with a smile on his face, that if he dies chasing his dream then he'll die. At least he tried. So how can sanji be a main character in a show about chasing dreams if he won't risk anything?

It's because the vinsmokes are still holding him back.

Of course sanji has this mentality, that when danger arises he has to keep his head down and survive until he reaches a mythical someday when everything will be fine. That's what got him through the hell of the first eight years of his life. Things will be better later, just hold on for now.

But the thing with humans is we take our worst days and burn them in to our memories so if they happen again we can survive them again. No matter how much time passes. "Give up your ambition and live" is good advice for a bad situation, but Sanji couldn't see he didn't need it anymore. He's been stuck in that mentality for years even after breaking free of the life where he needed it every single day. And zeff didn't know how to make him see that.

But luffy could show him. And zeff could sit with his son and watch what it was like to live without fear.

[Answering asks out of order because work today, dw it bothers me more than everyone who’s asked me stuff that hasn’t been answered yet.]

Kill Lunar AU Kill Code is my babygirl, I literally cannot stop thinking about him because of my Gollum brain. Not going into plot, and keeping intentionally vague if I do because I’m not even close to being there yet, but I can tell you what he looks like.

KC is going to be purple and silver. His…His hair is going to be the longest. This fucker is going to have hair that drags on the floor and needs to be tied up so he doesn’t trip on it and fall flat on his face. Like how some people give him a much longer hat than Moon, his hair is going to be floor length and his hair will be grudgelike when we meet him, matted, tangled, over his face, overgrown, messy, and frizzy. Just…so, so messy and unkempt.

His outfit isn’t the same as canon either, since he looks like a homeless man in canon and I can’t have the babygirl be looking homeless. He wears purple jestery pants like his family but with little grey skulls on them at first while he’s in Moon’s head. Eventually, his pants become dotted with crescent moons instead once he’s no longer feral and controlled by his nature and external factors.

His little waist and neck frill things are purple with grey stripes and he has the same kind of freckles that Lunar does (like little tiny glowy stars over his face and arms). Kill Code is also very skinny compared to his family, something due to those external factors messing with Moon’s kill code.

He’s bio-organic, being part of Moon, who is also bio-organic still and all. He still has big claws and sharp teethies, though those are both retractable into normal nails and teeth and are mainly for show. KC is very animalistic at first since he’s growing sentience and mainly growls rather than speaks like he does in canon (a piece of a plot point).

KC is much more calm later on and even able to speak eventually, but he’s very feral at first. He even crawls on all fours at times, not to threaten, but because he forgets how to walk properly while he’s feral. There’s also external factors that mess with Moon’s kill code that contribute to KC’s feral nature as he is the kill code.

Due to him being skinny as all shit, KC drains energy faster than Moon or Lunar does, though this eventually gets fixed once the external factors get dealt with and KC is actually eating and getting taken care of by his family.

Um. Sorry. I tried to find a different scene but TCWGANV unfortunately lacks a lot of Cody scenes, especially interactions between Grim and Cody.

This scene is originally from the end of Chapter 36. (Yeah so again, sorry for what y'all will be experiencing on September 1st)

General Kenobi and Commander Kennet rode up to Cody on one of the local varactyl’s. He took off his helmet and tucked it under his arm as they came to a stop. Obi-Wan addressed him, “Commander, contact your troops. Tell them to move to the higher levels.”

“Very good, sir,” he replied. Then he handed him his lightsaber, “Oh, by the way, sir, I think you’ll be needing this.”

“Thank you, Cody,” General Kenobi replied, as he took his lightsaber back. “Grim, I want you to stay with Cody.”

Commander Kennet fell off the mount in shock. Cody didn’t understand why. “What?” She gawked at him. “Master, wait-”

“We need to get a move on, we have a battle to win,” said the General. Then added for his student, “we can talk about things afterwards.”

He left to continue the battle. Grim sat there in the dirt for a moment staring after him. Then she stood up, but when she looked at Cody he could tell she was afraid. And for reasons he could not place - he could tell she was afraid of him. She began to step away from him, he could tell she was trying to be subtle at it, but she had never been one for subtlety.

“Something wrong, kid? You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” Cody commented. He was worried - earlier she had been like this too. She had never acted like this before.

She put on a smile that he could tell was fake. “No, everything’s fine, Commander. Now come on, let’s go do what General Kenobi said. We have a war to win.”

“You’re right about that,” he replied. Yet he couldn’t shake off how afraid she seemed to be. Cody couldn’t remember the last time she had seen her so terrified.

Before he could think about that any further his comm went off. He put on his helmet. Before he turned on the comm he noticed it was a message from the Chancellor - strange. Whe he turned it on, Palpatine’s holographic image appeared, only he wore a cloak that completely covered him. “Commander Cody, the time has come…execute Order 66.”

chapter 66 is unreal they really just dropped a chekov’s firing squad on us. but also there’s a panel i don’t see enough people talking about.

it’s this one.

i don’t think the translation does it justice. i usually read the manga’s chinese version, which is why i picked up on the discrepancy. the chinese text reads 「以後就拜託你了」 and loosely translates to “I trust you'll take responsibility (for him)” if the context of them talking about damian and anya is considered

just to make sure i wasn’t being fooled by some rando subber on the internet i double checked the original on the jump+ web. 「これからも，お願ね」，or “from now on, please/I’m begging you” (something along the lines of this). a far cry from “i hope they can stay friends”.

see the english translation keeps the foreboding vibe, like foreshadowing something bad is going to happen to damian that prevents him from going to eden (ergo not seeing anya anymore). or it can lend to the “melinda being a part of project apple” theory and mean the scientists have found anya and plan to use her for the upcoming war, resultign in her being taken away from eden.

but i think the english loses a bit of its implications.

asking a friend (friend-adjacent in this case) to take care of their children is a pretty obvious foreshadowing of them dying or at least leaving them for an indefinite amount of time. so my brain instantly jumps to, “oh no melinda knows she’s gonna get killed some way or another in this political warfare.”

but we’re theorising that melinda has a wayy larger role in this mess than we’re being shown, right? “oh no melinda’s trying to remove herself from the picture.” (by death? by disapearing? who knows)

but so what if she’s gone? she’s not the sole caretaker of damian. (well, neither parent is doing a good job at parenting.) donovan desmond is still gonna be there with his wealth and influence to make sure damian is taken care of. no, donovan’s going to be out of the picture too. “oh NO melinda’s trying to assasinate desmond."

and we’re getting suspicious that yor is the only one melinda invited into her upper crust mom circle without being an old friend of hers, right? aren’t we all a lil worried that melinda is getting onto yor’s true identity as an assassin?

CONSIDER: the responsibility/favour that melinda is asking of yor foreshadows her hiring yor to eliminate her husband and take good care of damian after the desmond fortune is lost.

“Master Kenobi?” The Chancellor raised his hand slightly, a polite gesture to get the other’s attention. “If you could remain behind for a few minutes?”

“Of course, Chancellor.” Obi-Wan answered with a nod before he turned to Mace and asked him to provide an apology to the rest of the Council that he would be delayed.

Palpatine watched the Jedi leave the room, with only Obi-Wan standing patiently waiting, hands clasped behind him. “I am sorry to delay you, Master Jedi, but I needed to talk to you about young Skywalker.”

“Oh?” Obi-Wan followed the Chancellor to a room containing several artefacts, including a stone mural that caught his attention, waiting for the other to speak again.

“He has become more withdrawn lately, don’t you think?” Palpatine watched the blue eyes turn from the mural to fix on his face as he spoke. “He very rarely attends our meetings, and usually does not send an excuse when he fails to attend.”

“Anakin has been spending time with his wife,” Obi-Wan paused before continuing, knowing that it was common knowledge, but the Chancellor had known Padme since she was a child. He decided that it was for Anakin to tell the Chancellor of his wife’s identity. It was not his choice to make. “He seems to be enjoying spending his free time with her.”

“You know he’s married?” Palpatine tried to keep the surprise out of his voice, but he’d undoubtedly failed from the way the Jedi was looking at him.

“Subtlety has never been his strong point. The Order is aware, and whilst there are certain concerns about his choices, we don’t abandon our own for falling in love. No matter how foolishly they act.”

“How reassuring.”

Not reassuring at all. If the Jedi accept that he’s married and don’t act like they’ll forsake him, he won’t fall.  

“Is that all, Chancellor? I hate to be uncongenial but I am late for a Council meeting.”

“Of course, Master Kenobi. There is only one more thing.” Palpatine smiled as he approached the Jedi, raising his hand to use the Force, pushing his way into Obi-Wan’s mind, tearing down his defences as if they were nothing and taking control.

He watched Obi-Wan’s eyes widen, first in concern, then in panic, his lips parted to protest and then the Jedi simply stopped.

His face smoothed out into an entirely blank expression, his eyes emotionless, his body frozen in place.

“Kill the Jedi, Master Kenobi.”

“As you wish.” The ginger’s voice was monotonous, his lips opening only to speak. No subtle smile. No light in his eyes. It was as though he’d been erased.

Obi-Wan walked back to the Temple with no thought in his mind except kill the Jedi.

Those were his orders. Repeating in his brain, overriding any other thoughts.

“Good afternoon, Master Kenobi,” Master Vant greeted him with a small bow as she left the classroom with her clan of younglings. They were all chattering away excitedly about the fact they got to use training lightsabers for the first time. So young, full of life. “It’s good to see you. You’ve certainly grown.”

Kill the Jedi. Kill the Jedi. Kill the Jedi.  

Don’t make me.  

Kill the Jedi.

Obi-Wan’s hand moved to his lightsaber mechanically, his fingers twitching as they closed around the metal, the Jedi trying to fight Palpatine’s control.

It was pointless.
