If the GoM + KagaKuro + Momoi had YouTube channels

I saw a headcannon post like this a few days ago and thought I'd take my own crack at what I think the YouTube channels of the main cast of KNB would look like if they had them. Hope you enjoy!

[KUROKO]

Mainly on the book side of YouTube.

He likes to do book reviews and book recommendation videos and keep people updated on what he's been reading recently.

He also does this thing where he opens up a Google Form every once in a while and takes suggestions from his subscribers on what to read and then he'll pick a few suggestions at random and give his thoughts in a video.

Sometimes he does vlogs where he hits up his favorite bookstores and encourages people to visit them (he mainly supports local bookstores and also is a big library advocate and often urges his viewers to support their local libraries, too).

On occasion, he uses YouTube shorts or the community tab to post pics and short vids about Nigou like taking him for a walk or dressing him in cute outfits (Nigou is Kuroko's pfp on his channel).

Kuroko also never shows his face in any of his videos and his viewers always get so curious about what he looks like, but when they ask for a face reveal, he never budges.

Because no one can see his face, they focus a lot on his voice and Kuroko has been told by many people that his voice is calming and he could definitely dip his foot into ASMR. He compromises by posting the occasional video of him reading excerpts from his favorite books.

[KAGAMI]

Very much a "ball is life" type of guy. He posts clips of his basketball game highlights from school tournaments. Also posts clips of him playing streetball with his team members from Seirin and sometimes other GoM members if Kuroko invites him to come play.

He posts travel logs, too. It could be something like him heading to LA to visit or to get some basketball training in with Alex. OR he could do "day in the life" vlogs in Japan where he just shows people how he's living. He posts them very sporadically, there's no schedule for any of his vlogs.

I feel like he could also do those "What it's like to live in ____" videos where he tells people about his experiences living in the US and Japan and gives people travel tips he's picked up along the way.

I bet he has YouTube shorts where he films what he eats in a day, and because of the sheer volume of food he consumes, his subscribers always think he's bullshitting because who tf eats that much in 24 hours?

He also does YouTube shorts where he cooks simple dishes. He always gives people an ingredients list so they can try the recipes, too.

He probably has both a domestic and international viewer base because he's bilingual (and I saw a headcanon someone had that Alex taught both Himuro and Kagami some Spanish so maybe he's even trilingual). When talking directly to viewers, he switches between languages a lot.

I bet he does livestreams too every once in a while when he's alone on a basketball court at night and wants some company, so he just props his phone up and comes back to it every so often to read the live chat.

[KISE]

Oh, he's a beauty guru through and through. I know he's got makeup tutorials on his channel. He also does viral makeup challenges (or maybe he creates his own challenges and they go viral on their own).

He also posts a lot of GRWM videos. Sometimes he gets ready for modeling work, and other times he gets ready for school or a basketball game.

Also, he deffo gets sponsorships from cosmetic brands all the time like maybe foundation or face wash. He just has so much social media presence that brands are all lining up to ask Kise to use their products.

I can see him doing vlogs, too. Usually when he's out doing modeling work. He likes to show his subscribers behind-the-scenes stuff about modeling and how the industry works.

He 100% does clothing hauls, too. He likes to pick clothing brands he thinks deserve more love so that his subscribers start shopping there and the brands get more business.

He does livestreams where he does Q&A with his subscribers and talks more about himself there. They're a fan-favorite because subscribers get to see him more laidback and comfy.

I can also see him trying to do simple dance challenges for YouTube shorts as well. He usually tries to drag his Kaijo teammates or even the other GoM into it. Some are more receptive than others, to put it lightly...

[MIDORIMA]

He's a weirdo (said endearingly) on YouTube. He makes content for all the boys and girlies interested in obscure niche topics.

I'm sure a good chunk of what he posts is related to horoscopes and compatibility stuff.

He also does livestreams where he does fortune-telling for his subscribers, usually summoning the power of whatever his lucky item is that day.

I would also like to think he does videos picking apart popular conspiracy theories and then going to war with said conspiracy theorists in the comments.

But then another part of his channel is almost like "study with me" type videos where he shows the process of completing homework or getting ready for an important test/exam.

A lot of people under his comments for those videos ask him for study tips and he freely gives out advice.

There are also people under his comments who talk about how stressed school makes them and he's actually very encouraging and supportive to them in his own way. He's big on motivating his subscribers to try their hardest and not to get too down on themselves if their results aren't as good as they expected. Because of this, his subscribers love to update him on their academic progress, both the good and the bad, and Midorima reads every single one of their comments.

[AOMINE]

Probably the most sporadic poster of them all. Nobody ever knows when this boy will post and he gives no heads up either. YouTube community tab is for losers. You'll see his videos when you see them.

Most of the time he uploads videos they're usually super short, maybe no more than 2 minutes long. And the content of these videos could honestly be about anything.

Sometimes they're clips of gameplay from a video game and other times, it's just him filming random stuff that captures his eye.

He doesn't edit or nothin, he just rawdogs the YouTube experience and posts his videos as they are from his phone.

In a way, you could call some of the videos vlogs, but they're just so short and borderline cryptic that his subscribers don't see them as anything other than shitposts. And that's precisely why Aomine has amassed a sort of cult following.

The non-shitpost short videos are ones where he films himself catching bugs in the summer. Those are actually super cute and wholesome because he likes to share factoids about the bugs he caught.

The only times he does longer videos is if he posts clips from streetball matches he has with the other GoM + KagaKuro. They're usually titled something like "Kicked Kagami's ass in b-ball today". Any and all dislikes on videos like that are solely from Kagami and all the burner accounts he uses to dislike Aomine's videos.

[MURASAKIBARA]

I think his most popular segment would be snack/sweet reviews. Especially when there are new limited edition flavors of something. Sometimes snack brands like to send him mystery boxes for him to open up on camera.

He also likes to talk about what he eats when he travels to new places, giving tips on places to eat in foreign countries that you may not find on an initial search online.

His subscribers treat his word like the holy bible and a lot of them will not trust a snack unless Murasakibara has said it's good. He's like the Keith Lee of snack YouTube. Very wholesome but also holds a lot of authority.

I think he would totally do mukbangs, too. He noticed his subscribers love it the most when he eats crunchy stuff, so a lot of his videos around that are him eating chips or his maiubo sticks. It's basically ASMR, at this point.

While he does mukbangs, he likes to rant talk about his day to his subscribers. They find it very endearing when he gets invested in telling stories.

I remember Fujimaki once saying Murasakibara's alternate future job would be a baker/patissier, so I think Murasakibara would also have content where he's just baking. He likes to take suggestions on what he bakes from subscribers. His taste testers are his Yosen teammates or the GoM if he happens to be down in Tokyo/Kyoto for whatever reason.

The only non-food content he has on his channel is his livestreams, where he plays video games. He either plays cozy farming sims or horror games. There is no in-between.

[AKASHI]

A total equestrian boy. A good chunk of his channel is riding sessions he has with his horse, Yukimaru. He answers questions about horses from his subscribers in the comments all the time. Sometimes you will see him under the comments of other good horse YouTube channels gushing about how beautiful those YouTubers' horses are and how well their owners take care of them. He asks them about certain riding gear he sees them use, too, so he can buy it for himself.

Another chunk of his channel is music-related. He likes to upload videos playing his favorite pieces on both the piano and the violin. He takes song requests from his subscribers, too. Once in a blue moon, he'll even post a piece he composed himself. One time, he posted a video of himself playing the violin for Yukimaru, and his subscribers thought it was the most precious thing ever.

He also posts videos of himself playing shogi, either by himself or whoever he has convinced into playing shogi with him. It's usually Midorima, and he always loses.

Speaking of Midorima, Akashi noticed his "study with me" videos and wanted to try doing it, too. This eventually led to once-a-month livestreams where Akashi studies by himself in his room. This led to his subscribers nicknaming him "Lofi Girl". He did not understand the reference.

He posts basketball stuff on there, too. Usually, stuff he's taken from his own team's practices as he observes them from the sidelines.

He also sometimes posts YouTube shorts of the Uncrowned Kings when he's hanging out with them. They're always candids of them engrossed in a conversation, or when they're goofing off, and during those times, when Akashi feels compelled, he'll sneakily record them and post it later, almost like an archive of memories to look back on and smile.

He's also pretty passionate about mental health and sometimes talks about it on his channel, encouraging people to normalize conversation around it. He gives updates on his own mental health journey (yes, I have a headcannon that he starts going to therapy after the Winter Cup) and his subscribers are always so supportive of him for being open and honest about it. His transparency in turn inspires his subscribers to take their own mental health more seriously and they give Akashi updates of their own. He always loves hearing their progress and always tells them to hang in there.

[MOMOI]

She loves a lil vlog here and there. She loves showing people what she does on a day-to-day basis. Her editing style is also super adorable.

She also likes to livestream to just talk to her subscribers about anything, really. A lot of times, it ends up being about romance, though.

Her content has a slight overlap with Kise in which she also does GRWM videos. Usually for school or to go into town. Sometimes this bleeds into her doing videos where she puts outfits together for specific situations and gives fashion/makeup advice to subscribers.

She does hauls, too, but it's all bath salts and bath bombs. She has an extensive collection of candles, too, and she loves to tell her subscribers when she gets new stuff.

She's probably also done a room tour, too, I bet. I like to think her bedroom has that gamer-girl vibe. Just all cute shit but at the same time she gets down to business you do not play around with data analyst Momoi.

I would say she also includes the other miracles the most out of everyone. Kise is usually the most willing participant in her videos. They probably team up for makeup challenge videos. Somehow they rope Aomine into them to be their test subject, may God bless his soul.

She also likes to take videos of the GoM when they have get-togethers. Her subscribers get a kick out of seeing their antics and they constantly tell her she has amazing friends. Momoi agrees.

Anyway, that was it from me. I don't think I've ever done a KNB headcanon post like this before, so I just wanted to try. I hope you guys liked it! ✨✨✨

Week 5 - #100DayReinvention Progress log ୨୧

Hello girlies! Welcome to the fifth log of this challenge. I am actually so excited for the start of a new month and grateful for all the progress and moments I lived in October. Last month I was focused on achieving, having the base for my habits and goals. Now that I now what I need to do and what I love, in this month alongside progressing with my goals I will focus on being healthier, softer and prettier as so buying new items and going on girly dates.

𝐈. My weekly progress

Health: Did pilates once, slept at 10pm some days and ate healthier in general (my sleeping schedule and diet are things that are costing me to have in a good state, but I'm making progress), my skin is clearer and hair is healthier.

Academic: finished my Italian online and physical exercises, got an 100 on my 3rd Italian test, got all my academic tasks done in time

Adulting: no new progress

Hobby: began reading a book (It didn't start with you), feel more confident with my cheer skills, wrote 3 blogs this week

Social: played with my dog, spent more time with my friends and being social. celebrated halloween at uni and at cheer

Healing: meditated and practiced yoga in the morning and at night, currently using frequencies, indulged in manifestation and soft living

Style: makeup looked more flawless, learned new hairstyles

𝐈𝐈. I need to work on

Sleep earlier to wake up earlier - To achieve this I will reduce my electronic consumption and be commited to sleep and wake up at the time I stablished

Eat healthier - I already eat healthy, but sometimes I'm lazy to cook and fall into the junk food trap. I will meal prep each week and chose interesting meals and new recipes for me to be motivated. Also drink more water, I will add fruits to make it appealing

Sensorial rest - Use screen timers, listen to music on scecific times and not as a distraction, less sound and earphone usage, lean on more to stillness and be alone with myself

Work on my mental diet - Be aware of my thoughts and what I'm focusing on. I will choose positive feelings, positive affirmations and discard any negativity towards myself, situations or other people

Be brave and open minded to fail to achieve the goals that I fear - I heard someone said once "If it scares you, it's because it's meant for you"

𝐈𝐈𝐈. Next week I will focus on

Based on my experiene from October and last week, I will focus all around the month to balance my consistent progress and focusing on leveling up my healthy and feminine lifestyle (diet, pampering, hobbies, productivity, energy, mindset, social skills, buying new itenms, etc) so this week I will mainly focus on this.

-messy asf. he doesn’t do it on purpose but he’s just so unorganised and has a messy room and just causes chaos wherever he walks. that being said, he does know where everything is which pisses mello off SO MUCH. mello also routinely berates him for his mess

-he is probably the one who is at home the most. he doesn’t like going outside, he just sits in and plays video games or watches tv. he only does anything productive if he reaaally has to

-that being said, you have to drag him out sometimes to avoid him getting too depressed from just sitting doing nothing for days. if you can’t motivate him then mello will gladly accept the challenge and come through without fail.

-matt is deeply appreciative of how thoughtful you and mello are, as roommates but also as friends. how well you know him, how easy it is for you to see what he needs when he’s at his lowest. once, (probably when he was drunk) and falling asleep on your chest, he expressed this out loud for the first time and you almost wanted to sob at his words. he comes off as someone who’s always so casual and sometimes maybe even awkward, so hearing this was a shock but a good one.

-if matt isn’t sleeping or sitting on the couch playing video games, he is probably lying on the floor or just doing weird shit. i can imagine mello coming home and just seeing matt doing a handstand against the wall, watching something (5 minute crafts) on his phone on the floor.

-dyes his hair often and changes up his look very frequently, so very often you find yourself following the smell of cigarettes only to the open bathroom door and find matt looking like patrick bateman due to him washing off his hair dye in the sink (cigarette still lit in his mouth, it’s basically a party trick at this point)

-whenever you have to go out he drags you back to bed and holds you as tight as he can with a smirk on his face

-whether you’re a smoker or not, you often light his cigarettes for him and it ends up being a much more intimate gesture than you anticipated. mello tells you to get a room

-he’s out of the house the most between the three of you but that’s kind of a given. lots of work to do you know being in the mafia and all, that kind of casual stuff…

-idk where i’m going with this or how to even explain it any more, but he always makes a conscious effort to keep alcohol in the house at all times like he is always just coming home with a bottle of something

-has lots of cool rock/metal posters in his room and when he’s not in his usual leather clothes he’s wearing band tees (u and matt steal them frequently and he pretends to be mad)

-honestly i want to say (solely for comedic effect) that he absolutely despises the smell of cigarettes in the house. you’ve never seen desperation like the kind mello exhibits when he begs matt to PLEASE SMOKE OUT OF A WINDOW.

-there is 100% a designated cupboard that is full to the brim with chocolate. all the same brand, flavour, type, whatever. literally everything. it’s all identical.

-when he’s feeling down about messing something up, even if it’s the smallest thing, he gets really really emotional and will immediately go to his room. he probably doesn’t cry often unless it’s angry tears but he doesn’t want even his most trusted people to see him like that. however you always know what to do, you leave him be but then convince him that he should let out his thoughts later, in a kind way of course. matt also helps him to feel better at times but you’re definitely there to bring him his chocolate and give him lots of hugs and kisses. he doesn’t speak too emotionally, but i can imagine a very soft ‘thank you’ after you help him

-blasts metal at 9am. no further comments

-matt cuts mello’s hair and mello occasionally dyes matt’s. matt gets so into it he thinks he’s a little hairdresser. they’ve also given each other piercings, they have about a 40% success rate. they’ve offered to give you one but you very politely decline. you always have to supervise in these situations because god knows what is going to happen with these two

-it is extremely common to have mini sleepovers in each others rooms. this is another thing that matt just gets a little TOO into, he wants the full shabam. he’s looking for matching pyjamas, chick flicks on the tv, endless snacks, and pillow fights. by that i mean he just starts relentlessly beating you and mello with a pillow without warning

-matt likes to shake you and mello awake at an ungodly hour and declare that you are going for a drive. he never actually plans anything for these drives, sometimes you don’t actually do anything but you enjoy them nonetheless. however it is extremely hard to get mello out of bed at a time he hasn’t decided on.

-you do the cooking, purely for everybody’s safety. mello likes to think he’s gordon ramsay but he fucks up the most basic things. matt is just a natural hazard with most things

Art tips for beginners? :3

I'm gonna try n be helpful here, but please keep in mind that I've been drawing my whole life, so I can't give you the perspective of someone who is just startin out.

1: Don't give up. Cheesy as fuck, I know. But you are gonna get pissed n fuckin angry when somethin doesn't turn out how you wanted it to. Don't let this discourage you! Use your mistakes and errors to keep on improving. There's no need to tear up drawings or delete anything that you aren't 100% satisfied with because you are growing in your abilities. AND TRUST that it is so rewarding to see your progress over time.

2: Challenge yourself n expect to hate it. Try all sorts of styles (cartoon, realism, or even just photo studies), do few details, do loads of details, do timed drawings, etc. Test the limits of what you can do. Similar to the previous advice, you need to allow yourself to be angry n hate the product that comes from this because you will eventually start finding your own creative style n process.

3: Don't pressure yourself beyond belief. You will not be an 'amazing' or 'visually appealing' artist from the get-go. If you are gettin burned out, allow yourself to take a break from time to time. With this though, once you start gettin more comfortable, even when you're burnt out creatively- I HEAVILY encourage you to keep doing small drawings OR other creative things to keep your mind going.

4: Experiment wit different mediums n shit like that! Explore! There is so many different forms of art to fuckin enjoy. Digital, traditional, watercolour, acrylic, clay, fuckin anything. When you get into non-digital mediums, keep cost in mind, but there are plenty of cheap alternatives that are great when you're startin out (also once you get 'better', you can control these much better, n they don't look like the initial cheap product). I personally use a lot of dollar tree shit n I used to steal from the art class in my school (but that was more out of necessity, if you can avoid it, please do. You can get in HUGE trouble if you're caught). But the main message is to experiment n try new things because there's so many different mediums out there.

5: Take in the world around you. Look at everything n think about how you could portray that in art. Really study the world. The faces people make when they don't think they're makin any, the grime that most people ignore building up on everyday objects, how people's body language says a LOT about how they feel, the way light casts in obscure ways, etc. Instead of just viewing the things around you, really look and take in the experience of bein human. Even impressionistic art holds these intricate details. You just have to be open to the experience.

6: Appreciate, but don't compare. I cannot stress dis shit enough, your art is your own, it is no one else's, so there's no need to harp on "oh this person draws x,y,and z better than me" n blah blah blah STOP! Dawg, you are doin your own shit, don't worry about if you're not on the same 'level' as others, or don't have the same 'capabilities' as some mfs. When you see other people's art, appreciate the things that they can do, but appreciate what you can do too! Especially when you're first really gettin your foot in the whole art shit, it is important to not judge your abilities compared to others who may have a lot more experience under their belt. I think it's totally okay to look at art n be like "oh that's super cool, I'd definitely like to improve on things like that", but never use it to put down your own art. This shit is subjective bro, you'll get to where you want to be. It takes a lot of time, it's not linear, but you WILL. It may not be how you expected it to look at first, but that's okay! Give yourself grace. Art is for you, at the end of the day.

You are gonna fight with yourself n the art itself, but that's totally normal! Art is one of the best forms of expression n I really hope the best for you. I know I was vague as shit n this isn't no tutorial on how to draw a realistic portrait or some shit- but that's because there's no right way to do this. Go balls to the walls or just dip your fuckin toes in. Approach it how you want, there's no right or wrong way to do art. I hope that this was somewhat helpful n I wasn't just spewin shit outta my ass n I truly wish you a good art journey

"Parenting is finally getting easier. The first six months were challenging, every day felt a thousand hours long. Now she's not crying that much and we can actually go to places and…"

River knew close to nothing about parenting but patiently listened to Sara's venting. She believed she owed her that after rejecting her as a romantic partner — even though River had said they would have not future together.

They had gone for a walk a few times and it had started to become a weekly routine.   "And before you say I should ask for help," Sara said, "I have asked and Kody has helped a lot but ultimately, I'm alone. With Bayu of course, but you know what I mean."

"I… guess," River said. Sara seemed ready to change subjects so River asked: "What are your plans about school?"   "I'll go back. I'm still not 100% certain if dentistry is my thing but I have no other ideas, so… Not until next year, though. I want Maya to be a little older before daycare."

"Understandable," River said even though she knew nothing about babies in daycare.   Sara smirked. "Nice of you to listen to me babbling about parenting. I know it can't be your favourite subject but it sure is nice to vent. Maya isn't much of a conversational partner yet. Thank you."

"Hey I'm always interested in listening to my friends! Whatever the subject!"   "In that case… I do have another thing on my mind."

Sara dug her phone out and opened the browser.   "Check this out," she said after navigating to a certain news site. "Some theatre critic has visited The Bats's rehearsal."

River quickly scanned the article to find the worrying part. For two long paragraphs, the critic had wondered if hiring Harrison Stacks to direct the musical was a risk worth taking. Some of his work had been astounding flops. This was neither new nor worrisome for River; her father's reputation as a wild card was well-known. It was the next paragraph about the actors that had made Sara uneasy.

The leading actors (Bayu Wardhana and Jaylah Ortega) have impeccable chemistry, the article read. Watching them embrace each other and sing about love, I felt I was interrupting an actual couple getting ready for bed — if you know what I mean. It was so intense it was almost umcomfortable... I felt warm and fuzzy inside — and I don't mean in my heart! If the whole musical is like this, I'm going to see it multiple times!

"Hmmmm… Have you asked him about this?"   "He says it's just a job. That Jaylah is just a colleague and that I should be proud of him being so good at his job. I mean, of course I am. And I know he is truly charming and charismatic, I wouldn't be here pushing a pram if he wasn't…" Sara sighed. "But… I don't know…"

River hadn't realised Sara cared about Bayu so much. She had thought they had only an arrangement to give Maya a stable family, not a true romantic relationship. Maybe that had been the case at the beginning but Sara was quick to fall in love. River wondered if Bayu was on the same page.

River wasn't sure of what to say. Her sister Brook was working in the production as the head makeup designer. When asked about the musical, Brook had fussed about how sweet Bayu was, always giving compliments, and how he was liked by everyone. And he was cute for someone so short (Brook's words!). River wasn't going to repeat her report.   "Brook works on the production, remember? She would tell me if there's anything to know. She couldn't resist spilling the beans."

Sara sighed again. "I must have been overreacting. I'll try to focus on other things."   River knew how hard it was to not think about something bothersome. In that morning, her hands had felt… different. Like she couldn't fully control them. She shuddered.

Sara's phone vibrated demandingly. "Ugh, it's mom. She has tried to call me many times already, I'll need to take this."

And immediately, Little Maya was awake. She wasn't happy about it. "Wah! Wah! WAAAAAAH!"   Sara let out a hopeless sigh. "Could you hold her? This shouldn't take long."

River gulped. Her hands did still feel shaky but it wasn't something she felt like sharing. "I… I think I might have a cold coming. I shouldn't touch her…"   Sara looked her suspiciously and River coughed. "Fine. Can you at least rock the pram and talk to her?"   "…Sure."

"Yes, mom? You indeed hear Maya crying. No, a friend is looking after her. Well, she's trying her best."   Sara walked further and River couldn't hear her over Maya's cries.

I am a very socially anxious person and i moved to this uni this past summer and im having a hard time integrating so i want to go out and do things that normally i would argue i need to do with someone but if i go by myself to spaces i enjoy im likely to meet people with common interests. the goal is to get out of the house and do something im scared of.

this one sort of speaks for itself but im trying ti learn a language uge right now along with other healthy habits such as better eating and exercising. this could also include doing thing that im responsible for such as going grocery shopping or running and errand ive been avoiding. this one is very broad and open ended if i feel a task is for a better future for me it would fall into this catagory

super nervous to start something like this so close to the end of the semester so it should be a challenge to get things going over winter break. Im going ti keep a log of it in here ans im also thinking of using a google form to keep track of what productive things i ddi the most to look back on later.

To be fair, our dearest Dr. Jonathan is typically very self-centered. He would, for the most part, probably expect his partner to be romancing him. It truly wouldn't strike him to put much consideration into doing something for Valentine's Day unless his partner stressed the importance of his participation.

If you're willing to feed into his ego, by all means, spoil him. He loves it when all eyes are on him and he'll definitely make watching him worth your while. He doesn't do simple thank yous. No, he is an eyes wide open, jaw dropped, screeches of excitement kind of guy. 

You could honestly probably get him anything. He just likes being thought about. And he'd cherish having someone who feels so strongly for him that they'd want to give him something physical to represent all of that love.

He'd open up your present and say, "For little old me?" as if he hadn't seen the gift coming from a million miles away. Probably because he didn't. He's not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed.

But if you need the romancing, make it completely clear to him. Because the man can't take a hint. Passive aggression does nothing but make him feel guilty. He needs it spelled out in bold letters that he's expected to reciprocate with his own efforts.

And that would be a real challenge for him.

Mostly because he's never...he's never had to do that. He doesn't know how to do much if he isn't being told how to do it.

He is the first person to consult Google for Valentine's Day ideas.

Write your partner a letter or a poem. Who does Google think he is? A wordsmith? No. He had scriptwriters for that.

Take them on a picnic. Oh yeah, because sweating beneath the burning sun, eating shoddily made deli sandwiches, while getting chewed up by flies and mosquitos sounds so romantic! Try again, magical algorithm of answers!

Surprise them with flirty photos. Now...that...that could always be an option. Until he realizes how ridiculous he'd look if his singular offering to you for Valentine's Day was a collection of tasteful nudes. Besides, he'd need costumes and lights and cameras for the whole production. And he's long since outgrown his Animal Magic days.

Then the idea hits him. Animals.

The majority of the effort Johnny puts into figuring out an activity from there goes into finding a contact from his celebrity days that won't immediately hang up on him as soon as he says hello. Even when he puts on his serious television voice, as soon as someone hears that the disgraced Dr. Johnny Wilcox is inquiring about– click, there goes another contact.

He goes down the list of zoos and aquariums and other organizations that once provided his production with animals for him to interact with. Over and over and over again he feels the sting of rejection. And part of him knows that he deserves it. But...he's trying. He's doing better. 

It isn't until he gets to one of the last contacts that he gets a hit. Someone who is – against their own best interests – willing to take a chance with him again. And he couldn't be more excited to finally give you something too.

Now, Johnny is terrible at keeping surprises on the down low. So when he says that he has a surprise for Valentine's Day and not so subtly hints that you should pack away that one outdoorsy set you have in the back of your closet for Valentine's Day, you know he has something big planned.

You're just not sure how big it is. Not even when said Valentine's Day present requires a weekend trip to Africa. With Johnny being in the animal business, it's normal for travel to take him from place to place.

But you couldn't have guessed how big it was really going to be until you're faced with an elephant that weighs over ten thousand pounds.

"What...is...this...?" you say, the shock in your expression is clear.

"It's an African bush elephant!" Johnny replies excitedly, still managing to carefully approach the creature with a handful of grass. The gentle giant takes the food from him and brings it to its mouth to begin chewing away.

"I can see that..." you trail off. "We're allowed to hang out with it?"

Johnny sends you a pompous look. "Yes. We're allowed to hang out with her. This is Lucille and she's going to be taking us on an adventure around the grasslands."

You raise an eyebrow.

"...and we'll have the conservation team following in the car just in case we get into any trouble. I promise you, we'll be safe. I wouldn't make you do anything that I wasn't willing to do myself," he says.

You roll your eyes and steadily approach Lucille. "This is coming from the man who was almost eaten by a bear on television."

"Oh, that was nothing," he whines dramatically. "That bear was trained and he knew exactly what he was doing: showing off for the cameras. Everybody has to get their five minutes of fame."

You laugh before letting the conservation team help both you and Johnny onto Lucille. Almost immediately, you wrap your arms around Johnny's torso, trying to keep balance. And he doesn't even try to hide his pride at having you depend on him just that little bit.

Sure, he likes that you're independent. He's so much of a mess sometimes that he doesn't know what he'd do if you were more codependent on him. But in little doses, he adores knowing that he's the one you lean on when you need it.

He loves being able to talk about everything he knows as you both ride along. Because he might not be the most intelligent man. But he loves animals. He's a bit wild too, just like them. And for that reason, he's always been more interested in learning about them than connecting with people.

So the fact that he can connect that love to you fills him with absolute joy. He talks for hours and hours about elephants and the grasslands and the times he got to work with both things on Animal Magic. 

For hours, you both ride along until the sun starts to set. And when Johnny feels like he's run out of things to say, he says aimlessly, "Thank you for entertaining me today. For all days, really. I know it's not easy being with–"

"Being with one of the only men on this earth who would take me to another country in order to watch the sunset? I don't know, I think that's pretty easy. It's actually fun."

Johnny laughs before swallowing the lump in his throat, "You know what I mean. I know I'm not the easiest person to deal with and somehow...you deal. I'm grateful for it."

"Jonathan Wilcox, I do not deal with you. I love you." You say it once more, firmer this time, "I love you." Then, taking his chin and turning his face slightly, you press a kiss onto his cheek, making him scrunch his nose.

And Johnny might not be great with words and hints or any of those things. But this is the biggest, boldest, in his face sign ever. He feels your grip around him tighten as you lay your cheek against his back and sigh contentedly.

He whispers back, "I love you too."

Do you think animation could hold the key to a 100% completely faithful adaption of the ASOIAF books?

Sort of? Great animation is a powerful medium for fantasy and epic storytelling. As much as I would truly love to see an animated series of ASOIAF, how can anyone say it would be a "100% faithful" adaptation without a finished book series? Sure, you could do an animated series and it could be fantastic and satisfying on every level. And dare I say, it could even turn out to be better than the source material in some ways; however, it would still be a version of the story. I don't think any adaptation is ever 100% faithful, nor does it need to be to be a masterpiece on its own. It is necessary for adaptations to make cuts and changes for it to be successful with a new and wider audience. It's a business venture after all.

Not that I know a lot about animation, but I'm sure it has it's own unique challenges of costs and production. You need someone at the helm that knows how to navigate the realities of translating a story to a different medium while still making the finished product at least true to the spirit of the original. As with many classics in the fantasy genre, sometimes the source material has a lot of outdated ideas that need to be reworked for a more modern audience. How race is handled in ASOIAF definitely needs more thought and improvement. And I'll give the show this much: it made no bones about Renly and Loras's relationship, which was the right call, even if the way it was handled thereafter was garbage. There is no reason to play coy with queer characters in 2022, let alone down the road when an animated series could theoretically be made. LBR, I don't know how you would get around the way more problematic shit without aging up the younger POVs more or toning some things way down. Even with an animated version, recapturing the nuance of what GRRM was going for is going to be a tough sell to even a hardened adult audience. Visual mediums just hit different, IMO, and you won't have the added context of those stories being told through a first-person POV. Again, you need someone at the helm who can anticipate how certain things will come across to the audience and who knows how to make appropriate changes when they are necessary. You cannot assume the audience has read the books or ever will. An adaption has to stand on its own feet.

Also, there are things in ASOIAF that are hotly debated topics to this day. The author intentionally left some things ambiguous, open-ended, and up to readers to ponder over. How do you decide what is the faithful interpretation? At a certain point, an adaptation is going to have to take a stand and assert its own point of view and not everyone may agree with it. (That's putting it mildly for the way the internet fandom gets a bee in its bonnet over anything.) That's fine. I don't want an adaptation that is enslaved to the illusory notion of 100% faithful to its own detriment. Besides being impossible to achieve, it's not the only way to earn the audience's trust and loyalty. Just showing you understand the genre and themes, and allowing your love for it to shine through can go a long way with winning your audience over. Committing to your vision as a creator and being thoughtful and consistent with the themes and internal logic of your storytelling is great, too. I don't think the solution to a adaptation with a lot of changes you disliked is to overcorrect into accepting nothing less than a strict adherence to the books as if they were sacred texts. I totally get that sentiment, though, if that's how you were feeling. I love the books with my whole heart, I do. Artists and creators still need to be free to take some risks, add their own touches, and make their own judgement calls to keep a story living and breathing with future generations. Especially if the book series is never officially completed, which is a real possibility. This fandom runs as strong as it does because we have different people bringing their insights and depth of knowledge to the table. We think a lot about how adaptations can go wrong when they aren't faithful, but rarely do we consider what could be gained from having something new and different. But if we only want the story as GRRM intended, we just need to reread the books.

Some thoughts on a foggy night

I came to consciousness in a cloud.

I watched what looked like arms snake away from my view as if they were 100s of feet long. It felt like my field of vision was increasing as the arms that were apparently mine appeared to get longer and longer.

The clouds that surrounded the edges of my view were dark grey and seemed to spiral inwards like a tunnel towards the center of my vision. At the end of the tunnel I could see a burning branch held tight in the hand that belonged to my body.

At first I couldn’t even feel fear. I didn’t know where I was, what was happening, or even who or what I was. I couldn’t be afraid because I didn’t have a sense of self that could process any emotions.

Someone was saying a name. My name. I had been talking. “You were saying what’s the thorn, bud, and petal to your rose today.” We had been playing a game Sam told us about where we had to list something challenging or bad that had happened to us today, something that was going to lead to change or being productive, and something positive and nice that had happened. I had said my thorn was that I had a lot of work to do and hadn’t been productive today. I hadn’t said my bud yet. “Are you good?”

All of a sudden it hit me. Fear unlike anything I had ever felt before. Panic coursing through every fiber of my body like a rush of the coldest freezing water imaginable. I felt the warmth drain from my face, hands, and feet as they instantly went numb and unresponsive. My chest seized up as I felt myself abruptly halt mid breathe and stop breathing. My stomach had a 1000 pound rock knotting up inside of it, pulling my chest inwards.

Fuck.

I immediately started fighting it. I was panicking, I wasn’t letting myself breathe, everything was spinning, and I felt nauseous. I wanted it to stop, I absolutely needed it to stop. The vibrations were so malicious. I was totally alone, yet those in the circle around me could see into my skull. James was judging me. Brian thought I was going to die. Alex and Julia thought it was funny. Sam was focusing on me too much. I knew all of this, even though no one had said a word. Or if they had I hadn’t heard them. If they did, I didn’t understand them. Or if I did, I forgot.

The sinking realization of what was happening felt like a black hole had opened in my chest and behind my eyes and was trying to pull me into its abyss.

I had watched Get Out a few days prior. The scene where Daniel Kaluuya falls back into his head through his eyes as if there’s an empty cavity behind them had really stuck with me. Now I felt it happening to me too. Every moment I felt myself slipping farther and farther back behind my eyes, into the empty, cavernous space that lurked inside of me. It wasn’t just a sensation or a metaphor. I felt the falling feeling, I saw my vision through the holes that made up my eyes growing distant each time I slipped back. I was terrified. I wanted this to stop.

“Hey.” “You were saying what’s the thorn, bud, and petal to your rose today.” “Hey, what’s wrong?”

“Uh nothing.” “I uh um uh I was gonna uh say what my bud um was I think right?” “I uh can’t really think. I was saying something.”

“It’s okay, take your time… what was your petal? What’s something good that happened today?”

“I ummm I uh I’m kinda freaking out right now.” “I don’t know what to do.”

“You don’t need to do anything. It’s okay. You’re fine.”

“Okay yeah uh I um yeah okay um yeah you’re right uh yeah uhhhh.”

“Here, I’ll say mine, just relax.”

The conversation and everyone around me melted away again. I was sitting on my skateboard so that I didn’t get my pants wet from the dew on the grass. The vibrations were all wrong. I needed to get off. I threw myself off the skateboard into the grass and grabbed handfuls of it with both hands to hold me down. I could feel myself being pulled up and into myself. I needed to stay here. I could feel the dirt being pushed up under my nails as I squeezed it like my life depended on it. Like my sanity depended on it. I felt a bug land on my neck. I felt it crawl around my skin, testing different areas, trying to decide where to bite me. I couldn’t do anything. I was paralyzed. The bug stayed there for what felt like hours before it finally bit me and flew off. I could feel heat and pain radiating in a circle from the bite on my neck. It came in waves.

I was staring at Spot. Spot was the name we gave the tree we were circled around, because it was the “spot” that we hung out at. Spot’s gone now. I was staring at Spot and watched as a river formed in the air around the trunk in an impossible shape. The river snaked around the trunk like a pink ribbon with the loop around the trunk except the streams never crossed. It was like an MC Escher painting. I couldn’t make sense of it.

As I stared more intensely at the river I saw a timeline of the events of my day leading up to how I got here. I had slept in. I had hung out with James and Leo. I had sat on Carly’s bed. I had played volleyball with Sam and Alex. I had seen someone squeezing a mattress out the window of a Gardens apartment, and the culprits had put their fingers to their lips and said it was a prank. I couldn’t make sense of what happened after that. The river faded away after the mattress. As the timeline of events flowed by, I couldn’t figure out how I’d gotten here.

I got distracted by the waves of pain and warmth coursing through me. I found myself falling into myself, focusing on my internal sensations too much.

I saw the Grateful Dead bears dancing around the base of Spot and I was terrified to tell anyone. That was so stereotypical. I didn’t want to sound stereotypical. I didn’t even know what I meant by that.

“What are you feeling, what are you seeing? How are you doing?”

“I uh I can think a little better now… I’m uh really stressed. I don’t want to say uh what I’m seeing it’s uh so stereotypical.”

“It’s okay how do you feel?”

“I feel like uh this warm feeling but it’s scaring me I uh can’t really get um away from it.”

“Focus on that warmth. Don’t fight it. Don’t try to run away. Feel the warm feeling in your chest and breathe it in and out. Let the warmth flow through you. Tell yourself you feel good. You will.”

That was good advice. But it was hard to follow. I looked up and the leaves of Spot seemed to be made of glass and move in rigid, unnatural patterns. I asked Brian if I could hug him. “Yeah sure buddy.” I wanted this to end so badly, but every time the thought crept in I had to let it float away from me or I’d fall into the panic again. The anxiety and fear came in ice cold waves, crashing over the back of my skull and soaking me to the bone, leaving me shivering and scared. The warmth from the burning sun in my chest would flare and pulse, warming me and sending me up and down like I was floating on a heat wave.

“I’m not gonna get up and sprint into the woods right now.” Did I just say that out loud? Why did I even think that? Where did that thought come from? “What?” Did they hear that? Did I say that?

“something something Cops.”

Panic again. I threw myself into the grass on my chest. I grabbed the grass even tighter. My fingers hurt from squeezing.

“Hey get up, it was just campus police driving by, we’re good. You look way more suspicious laying face down in the grass right now.” “We’re not doing anything wrong.” “We gotta walk now, come on.”

I don’t think I can walk anywhere. I don’t think I can go anywhere. I don’t think I can move an inch. The idea of possibly running into another human being outside of this small group of people I’m with is horrific. I know I can’t talk right now. I can barely think. I trust who I’m with now. Someone has weird vibrations but I’m shaking it off. I have more pressing concerns.

Now I’m walking through the grass towards the road. I’m holding Brian’s hand. Sam’s behind me taking a picture of us holding hands. It scares me that I’m being perceived but I don’t say anything. I ask Brian to hold my skateboard, I can’t bear the feeling of the grip tape against my fingers anymore. I keep saying phone, wallet, keys and patting my pockets to make sure I have everything. I don’t know if I’m saying it out loud or not. 

Walking is fascinating. For a minute or an hour, I can’t tell, the waves of fear and anxiety subside. Every step I take I feel as if my feet stay in the exact same position, but the ground undulates beneath me, sinking away from my feet and rising towards them like a balloon, as the entire earth moves like a treadmill beneath me. I’m standing totally still and the world is moving. I look up at the night sky and it’s a mosaic of fractal patterns angrily pulsating at me. The sky’s judging me. It’s angry. I’m falling into the pattern as I walk, being lifted up into the mosaic, losing my sense of grounding. I start sinking into this thought and have to pull myself out of my head again before the wave of panic crests over me and makes me gasp for air.

We’re at the look out, the plaza. I feel like I’ve fast traveled in a video game, but in the slowest way possible. Sam walks me over to the ledge and has me sit down. Now that I’m not doing something the waves of panic and fear start to rise and fall again. She asks me if I want to listen to music; I say yes. She puts on Mac Miller’s album, “Swimming,” I can’t remember if I asked her to do that or if she just knew. If she read my mind. I’m watching my friends dance around and chase each other through the plaza. It feels like they’re puppet actors on a kid’s stage and I’m watching a play. I feel myself falling into this thought too heavily and sinking again. With a massive effort, I yank my focus away and stare off into the distance at the lights of the library and the dorm. My dorm. The view looks like a cut out paper collage of images layered and stacked on each other like some sort of theatrical set or prop. Each lit up window looks like its own little box with a 3D image or video inside. Like its own little world or universe. There’s no sense of distance either. I could be feet away from the windows, floating above the trees, or miles away, looking through a telescope. I can’t tell the difference. I don’t know.

“I think I understand how people are religious.” I hope to god I didn’t say that out loud. That’s so corny. I hate myself for even thinking that. But I also kinda meant it. I really hate how stereotypical I sound. But the sky feels angry at me and reality seems like a play, so I really do understand how people could experience this and feel the need to explain it with a divine power. Maybe I’m just projecting. Maybe I wish I was religious. Maybe that’d make this easier. Less scary. If someone was in control, looking out for me.

“Perfecto” by Mac Miller’s playing. I’m sobbing. Mac Miller is sitting next to me on the ledge. He’s not saying anything, and I think I know he’s not really there, but I’m not thinking about that right now. I’m just listening to Perfecto bawling my eyes out, looking at Mac Miller. “Swimming’s” message seems to really fit this. You just have to float through life and hardship, staying above the water, but not necessarily leaving it. When waves come you have to keep your head above them, but you can’t get up and out of the water either. Life is staying afloat. Death is sinking or leaving it. Perfecto is so beautiful. “Well, it ain't perfect but I don't mind / Because it's worth it” “Yeah, as hard as it gets: cool, calm and collected / Holdin' my breath, this ain't what I expected” “I'm treadin' water, I swear / That if I drown, I don't care.” It all feels so relevant and significant. When the poem at the end plays, I feel unconscious. I’m sobbing even harder. It’s beautiful. I’m okay.

Now we’re on the tennis courts. I think we passed Joe and Tom at some point. I didn’t want them to know what was happening to me. We also saw Anna. I didn’t care if she knew. I don’t know why. I don’t know why they were all outside so late too. I have no idea what time it is, what time it was, but it seemed a weird hour to be out. Then again who am I to talk?

James left at some point. It bothered me that the people around me changed.

Sam’s doing cartwheels or yoga or something. She’s trying to get me to do it with her, but it takes too much effort and focus. She looks magic or like an elf or something, jumping around so much. I’m staring at the sky again. It seems a lot less angry but still intense.

It’s getting late. I need to go in my dorm for some reason. I’m worried everyone’s going to leave, but I’m the one leaving. I walk into the bathroom and stare in the mirror for a while. I didn’t have a beard before college. I have one now. It looks weird. Like not me. Not who I think I am. I’m really uncomfortable looking at myself in the mirror right now. But I can’t stop staring at the stranger staring back at me.
