The Glow Cloud, Explained

Well, I was going to try to catch up from where I was but this arc seems really cool so I'm just jumping it. I know who Lubelle is from Tumblr posts, so let's go!

First thought: Oh my god Cecil's voice is so pretty. How did it get even prettier? How. How is this possible.

Second thought: 'After I finish my radio show of course.' Dork. I love him so much.

Third thought: It's odd to have Cecil pointing out that things are weird, but I guess Night Vale is a little more aware of their weirdness since the Huntokar thing. Not explaining of it, no, that's just this lady, but aware.

Fourth thought: Oh my god her voice. She sounds so... condescending. Like, yes, I know what it is best for you, I know the right thing. I know the answer, just go sit in the corner and listen. I've had teachers like her and hated them, they don't listen. That is a perfect voice. I love it, and I hate it.

Fifth thought: Until there is not an ounce of poetry left. Yup. That's a very good line. Unravel everything until there's nothing left of it but string and despair. I kind of get it, I like answers too, but this is... bad. And wrong. Scientists don't act like this. This isn't how science works. If Night Vale is different, you expand your understanding. You don't try to force everything to be the way you think it should be.

Sixth thought: Cecil. Calm down about the lanes.

Seventh thought: My Carlos's science is so interesting to me. It's the way that people look at science, without any of the substance. Beakers and numbers, yes, but what is he actually finding out? And that kind of science, in Night Vale, is safe. (Plus Carlos probably does do actual investigations. We know Cecil is unreliable at time.)

Eight thought: Poor Cecil. I just want to give him a hug, he sounds so scared. He's the Voice of Night Vale. This town is part of him. It is the place where everyone he loves lives. If Lubelle takes all those people away... what is NIght Vale?

Ninth thought: AT LEAST TEN EXOTIC BIRDS TO HAVE A JEWISH SERVICE. IT'S A FUCKING BIRD MINYAN THAT IS AMAZING. God I love NIght Vale.

Tenth thought: It isn't going to work. I've seen the writing on the wall I've heard her mutterings I know it isn't going to work. I'm so sorry. Cecil, Glow Cloud, everyone. I am so sorry.

Special Weather Thought 1: Wow, this fits the situation really well. They don't all do this, I'm pretty sure. I've listened to a couple. Maybe I should listen to the weather more.

Eleventh thought: You're just going to write it off as collective hysteria? Sure. Okay. Very scientific, Lubelle. I'd like to see some sources for all this, if you don't mind. Because from what I can tell, mass hysteria can be used as an explanation for LITERALLY ANYTHING. And if the dead animals really are being picked up by dust devils, then why are there so many dust devils around NIght Vale?

I am going to kill you with your own damn logic, Lucelle. You can't keep doing this to my town.

Twelth Thought: No, NO no no no no no no PLEASE. You can't-- but you can. You can do it forever, and it's wrong, and I won't forget. It's the Glow Cloud, and it was real, and it was alive, and you killed it and you are wrong. You are wrong, Lucelle. I am a scientist and I will not forget.

I counted every time a Side said Thomas' name in every single episode of Sanders Sides

a few days ago I was watching "Selfishness v. Selflessness" (for the hundredth time because I love it) and I noticed, "hey, Janus says Thomas' name a lot in this episode; I wonder if that's an intentional thing because he's trying so hard to connect with Thomas and get him to listen?" and then I got to thinking, "I wonder how many times each Side has said Thomas' name throughout the entire series? I wonder which one of them has said it the most?"

so like the extremely casual fan of this show that I am, I decided to read through the transcripts for every episode of Sanders Sides (and Sanders Asides) and count every instance of a Side saying Thomas' name!

a couple things to note: I chose to leave out "The Return of the Jam!" and "Giving My Series to a Teenager" because they aren't actual episodes and exist unconnected to canon events, but "Have I Grown? - Five Years Later" is included, because even though it's a special I see it as a similar situation to "Sanders Sides Q&A." also, I did not count instances of Sides saying Thomas' last name only (so "You did a bad job, Sanders!" from "My NEGATIVE Thinking!" is out), nor did I count nicknames that only partially included Thomas' name; for example, "Tom," "Thomathy," "Tommy Salami" and "Tomalomadingdong" (all from "The Sanders Sides 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS!") are out, but "Thomas the Dank Engine" (from the same episode) is in.

I've listed the number of times each Side has said Thomas' name, the number of episodes in which each Side has said Thomas' name, and the name-said-per-episode average for each Side, separated by whether or not Sanders Asides episodes are included in the total count. I've also got the 'Top 5' rankings for both Core and Dark Sides for the most times Thomas' name was said by a single Side in an episode and which Side and what episode it was, as well as a few details I just felt like pointing out! enjoy the numbers! :D

The creators of animation have had to deal with censors for a long time. The people behind Batman: The Animated Series too did often complain about their difficulties with the censors. Here is a collection of their internal comments on some BS&P notes they received, from the book Batman Animated. They say, however, that the censors at Fox and WB were much more lenient than any other network and generally accepted that Batman was supposed to be something of a darker hero. Indeed older cartoon heroes were not even allowed to “make a fist, much less hit anyone with it.”

Bruce, the network says it is not their practice to show animal excrement hitting anyone on a children's show. They want us to cut the bat guano landing on Alfred's jacket and send them a fixed version of the episode.

Page A28: Network says no to Batman slugging Torchy in the gut with his fist. Kicking him, striking him with his whole arm or some such is okay.

Page 15: They won't let Scarface call anyone a "Scumbag".

Page 10: It'll break Alan's heart, but Penguin's joke about "picking up all the soap" in prison is out.

Network wants to cut Batman saying "Oh my God" from the audio cassette. They realize it's the logical thing for the character to say in the situation, but they feel many religious families would be offended by hearing Batman take the Lord's name in vain. It's okay for him to gasp.

Page A59: The third thug must be caucasian.

Page C41-42 Censor says Ras' looks too much like the devil. They want to lose the horned demon mask, glowing eyes, fangs and flames as he emerges from the pit.

Page 19: BS&P says Bane picking up Robin by the head is too easy for a kid to copy with a pet or smaller kid.

Page C16: Censor has a problem with Batman punching the skinny man in the face.

Page C39: Tell Dan he's going to have to restage this so Miriam isn't kicking Batman in the head.

Pages C97, C99, and C124-125: Baby-Doll can't bash Batman in the face with Mr. Happy Head.

Page C58: Robin kicking the thugs in their faces is too much. A body kick is okay.

Pages 4-5: I can't believe they want us to change the scene of the hyenas putting their heads into the baby carriage and chowing down!

Page 34: It has be clear through Harley's dialogue: "I think I made a mess on your cape" that she only barfed.

Pages 15 and 17: Censors want us to be more sensitive toward the families of those with mental illness. As Harley's just been released from the Laughing Academy, they don't want Bullock calling her a "fruitcake" or "screwball".

Page A15: It's okay to have Catwoman rake Batman's face, just don't show any blood.

Pages C10, C15, and C21: Censor wants us to figure out someplace for Catwoman to land other than on her face or breasts.

Page 26: We have to make it clear in the board that Batman's kneeing the Walrus in the stomach.
