Omg follow up on my other ask: I’d really love to know more about the whole creative process, like how you maintain the believability & essence of your characters in your stories, also how do you come up with the little nuances?? 😭 I feel like writing characters (especially maybe introverted ones) in a complex way can be so hard
You’re the first to ask me for writing advice so I’ve been looking forward to answering this 😆 Even though I just write for fun I love talking about creative processes. Sorry if this is long, but I could still discuss it even more lol. For you and anyone else, feel free to ask me more questions if you're curious! Always happy to talk about this.
Programs that I use are Google Docs (for that autosave feature baby, fuck writing on Tumblr), Grammarly (but I still find typos after posting rip), Theasaurus.com (I repeat words too much), any music app (IOU has its own playlist that I'll even listen to when I'm not writing), & Pinterest (for vibes + moodboards). I'm constantly switching between these tabs. When it comes to writing scenes I make sure it's something that engages me while writing and if it's boring to me, I'll scrap it or rework it after sitting on it for a bit. ✍️
Usually, if an un-written scene is haunting me over the course of several weeks, I have to write it; IOU Part 5 started with the scene where Heeseung can't hold himself back from kissing MC’s neck while dancing and then I just asked myself how did we get here, and what comes after? (Always easier said than done)
I have so much fun with stereotypes + tropes but I also love characters that are a little more grounded in reality; so I try to achieve that by imbuing them with characteristics/mannerisms that I’ve seen in people from irl experiences or myself. For these nuances, you can even get inspired by specific media/characters that you love to read/watch about.
I’d recommend making a list of your favorite characters + stories and jotting down a few bullet points of what you love about them, for whatever reasons. From there, you can create character dynamics that you enjoy, and if you enjoy writing about it, there are bound to be people who will enjoy reading it!
When I write, I draw a lot on experience, then I put a twist on it; it just comes easier that way to me. IOU is definitely pwp, but I like building up the tension a bit before giving out the goods hehe, that’s where characters come in with their weirdly unique selves to make the twist on reality happen.
It’s all about that balance to craft a character that works for your story and then the tension in their relationships with others. I'd say the tension between characters and their personal flaws is what makes something compelling to read.
I’m an introvert through and through, so my MC’s lean that way a lot lol. I’ll point out some examples of how I convey MC’s + Heeseung’s introversion below! (Gotta preface that not all introverts are relegated to this sort of behavior, this is just based on behaviors in myself and introverts I’ve come across) I've taken a class on personality psychology and used to dive deep into MBTI, which also helps.
Compare Heeseung’s interactions with MC vs Jay; he’s awfully stand-offish with Jay and reserved, but it's heightened due to jealousy. He’s an observant guy and tends to think/calculate before proposing anything— and of course, he’s extremely in tune with MC even when she’s not quite so with herself. Heeseung in IOU is learning how to be a bit more transparent/action-oriented with his feelings, but only where he believes it counts.
MC is shy and polite/friendly with Jay, but with Heeseung she teases him a bit more and lets down her guard without worrying about social niceties; but even then, she’s still a bit conservative with her true feelings. While she gets stuck in her thoughts often, Heeseung understands and knows how to draw her out of it.
She prefers her alone time to recharge over hanging out with a rambunctious Jake but makes an exception for Hee who has already won her over as a friend. MC's incredibly honest with Jake about her feelings though, but he values it even if it hurts. Still, he has to retaliate in his own little ways, and he excels at bringing out MC's trait of impulsivity which is... interesting.

Literally do not have to be a genius to accurately write any of the Death Note geniuses. You just have to be good at thinking of ways to subtly be an underhanded bitch who plays the most embarrassing games of chicken you've ever seen

Your Angel/Lucifer fic was wonderful!! I’ve also read most of your 666 series and remember in the notes of one of the stories that you mentioned something about Alastor being aroace and that’s why he experiences things the way he does in your fics. I felt like that was portrayed very well!! I also felt like Lucifer not being that way, being overtly attracted to Angel was well written!! I was just wondering how you’re able to write both sides of the coin as well as you do?? I’m asexual and I don’t think I even realized I was writing all of my NSFW fics from an asexual perspective on things until I compared some of your works. I guess that kind of attraction just feels so out there for me it’s hard to imagine anyone feels that way?? I’m not sure lol…
In any case!! I was wondering if you had any tips on accurately portraying an allosexual character?? I feel way out of my depth now that I’ve realized there is a readable difference.
AH, thank you so much! It's funny that you say that because I was just thinking about how writing NSFW from Lucifer's POV after Alastor's POV is actually really funny to me given the sharp contrast in how they experience sex and intimacy. I'm glad that they come through properly!
When I write NSFW from the perspective of an allosexual character (which is most of my NSFW), I'm not really thinking, "Hm, this character is allo. How does that affect things?" Rather, I'm still very much just writing what I want to see. There's a text post that was going around the other day that said something to the tune of, "When I say that man is fuckable, that does not mean I want to fuck that man. / I want someone else to fuck that man for me." and I'm definitely channeling that, hahahaha.
Not all aro/ace experiences are the same and not all allo experiences are the same, so a lot of it comes down to how I think a specific character would feel as a whole rather than their sexuality alone. I wouldn't write Vox the same way I'd write Lucifer, either, and a not-insignificant part of Alastor's detachment comes from him being an asshole on top of being aroace, haha.
Nonetheless, some concrete things about how I write these particular characters differently:
When you are writing in third person limited like I do, what you describe is often a reflection of what the character is paying attention to. I spend relatively little time describing Vox's body from Alastor's POV. Describing Alastor's body from Vox's POV would be, uh, a time, let's just put it that way.
Lucifer very much thinks that Angel Dust is hot, and he will admire him, both plainly and when Angel takes advantage of his obvious attraction to do something cute
Lucifer wants to touch Angel Dust for reasons of "I think it would just be nice to touch him" rather than always for a specific goal (eg. Alastor mostly touches Vox to get fun reactions)
The goal for Lucifer is sex with Angel, not sex, and Angel is helping that happen or even messing around with Angel, and sex is helping that happen
When you're a guy who's mostly been having sex in the context of a loving, committed relationship for millennia, sexual contact is intimacy is vulnerability is emotional connection, and all of those things can get really tangled up in one another.
I've streamlined a lot of it into just code-switching into the characters' heads to the point where I don't really keep these things explicitly in mind, so I hope that this was at least a little helpful!
...Also, honest to god, I've just read a lot of porn, and most of it is obviously not of ace characters. Over the years, you pick up what you find hot, LOL.

New Writing Idea! NEED thoughts!!
So let's break it down. I actually dreamed this for some reason, but idk if it's offensive to the transgender community, so I want to hear from yall and get your thoughts. Let's get to the points!
It's for the COD Fandom!
I was thinking Keegan or maybe Soap.
Basically, the character was born a female and lived a pretty negative & abusive life, but it was like mentally, financially, emotionally abusive, so she didn't realize it was even happening.
After a really bad break up with her boyfriend/fiance/husband, she turns to friends, and after a really long and deep convo, she realizes she's been Trans this whole time.
Of course, due to her life and family, she always thought those thoughts she had were just normal silly little "What ifs."
Skip over some stuff she finds this lab that's looking for volunteers for a full gender change transition experiment.
She goes to the lab and I don't want to put full details here but let's just say it's not an easy process. It's obviously a really complicated process.
In the end he comes out as a completely new person feeling like his real self for the first time.
Then he would somehow meet Keegan or Soap and a budding yet angsty relationship would begin.
Of course, it wouldn't happen in order in the story. we'd find out a little bit about the characters' past and journey in bits and pieces, basically, as Keegan or Soap would find out.
I really need thoughts! Is this a good idea to write about? Or not? I personally am not transgender but I do have close friends & family that are. Please let me know what yall think!

in news from grad life, my supervisor asked me about phd plans today and upon hearing i want to take a few years to do various non-academic things before i start one, immediately produced an application form for a scholarship to study abroad in iceland for a year? like this was not remotely on the radar of what i was planning for next year but tbf i hadn't actually planned that much, and i was initially looking at a master's programme in iceland before i settled on the one i've actually ended up on, so... why not! could be living in iceland this time next year! sometimes niche, half-buried teenage dreams do come true!

ive been wanting to create a sports if for a while, do you have any tips? i loved the update btw, it was so good!
Aww thank you :)) I'm very honored that you enjoyed the update, and that you might want my possibly unhinged advice! hahaha.
My first reaction to this is YAY!!! I'm always a big sucker for sports IFs (sports anything, really), so I can't wait for you to write it! :D More thoughts under the cut.
First off, a lot of people say they see so few sports IFs cause sports IFs are hard to write. I actually don't think this is true! Like any other IF genre, writing a sports IF boils down to making sure your MC has something they want, and making readers invested in that. Besides, sports IFs already have built-in drama/action, and another advantage is that the stats obviously really matter—see below on game mechanics—hence, readers usually naturally feel that they have 'agency' when they play.
I guess the biggest difference between sports IFs and other genres is that figuring out the stat checks and basic mechanics of the sport matters quite a bit. My advice is to think of 5-6 stats that govern how the game is played, then figure out how you want to test for it. Is it a simple stat > number test? Or are there two stats that are tested? Does condition factor in? Injury probabilities? It could be as simple or complicated as you want, but it should be consistent. Ish.
Next, decide how much you want the IF to focus on the actual sports matches, and how much you want it to focus on other bits—time spent with coaches/teammates, or daily life, giving press interviews etc. This also affects how "game-like" vs. "story/book-like" your IF ends up being. For CT:OS, I try to strike a balance, but this is completely up to you!
Finally, I truly believe that the characters are central. They provide the emotional grounding of any story and flesh out the world. Slammed does a great job in making sure that you care about the characters, and I think that's one of the main reasons why it doesn't feel like gratuitous wrestling for the sake of... wrestling? For sports IFs, there are already a bunch of potential characters that have their own reasons to exist—coaches, rivals, teammates, journalists, agents, etc. and I think it's key that these characters have their own lives/arcs/desires. It always makes the story more interesting, and stops them from becoming caricatures/two-dimensional.
Some things I haven't yet figured out, and you can take a stab at answering for me (or that we can suffer through together: One big pitfall/difficulty that I've noticed is making the matches/games matter, and feel distinct from one another (I'm working on this too!) Another thing is marketing—I'm pretty sure that lots of people look at sports IFs and run the opposite direction, but I haven't yet figured out a way to court those potential readers yet :) Your guess is as good as mine!

I will continue being gone for a few days, sadly my original al plan of releasing the newest chapter of The Consequence Of Imagination's Fear has also been delayed. My apologies
Can't go into detail because its hush hush not-legally-mentionable stuff but today is my fifth 12 hour no-break work day. I'm also packing to move too in a fortnight (which is a Big Yahoo!! Yippee!! I'll finally have access to a kitchen!! And no more mold others keep growing!!! So exciting!!!)
#syncrovoid.txt#delete later#OKAY SO! this makes it sound like i have a super important job but really we are understaffed and ive barely worked there a year now#graduated college a few years early 'cause i finished high school early (kinda? it's complicated)#now i am in a position where i am in the role of a whole Quality Assurance team (testing and write ups)#a Task Manager/Planner#Software Developer and maybe engineer? not sure the differences. lots of planning and programming and debugging ect ect#plus managing the coworker that messed up and doing his stuff because it just isnt good enough. which i WILL put in my end day notes#our team is like 4 people lol. we severely need more because rhe art department has like 10 people??#crunch time is.. so rough..#its weirdddddd thinking about this job since its like i did a speedrun into a high expectations job BUT in my defense i was hired before#i graduated. and like SURE my graduating class had literally 3 people so like there was a 86%-ish drop out rate??#did a four year course in 2 BY ACCIDENT!! i picked it on a whim. but haha i was picked to give advice and a breakdown on the course so it#could be reworked into a 3 year course (with teachers that dont tell you to learn everything yourself) so that was neat#im rambling again but i have silly little guy privileges and a whole lot of thoughts haha#anywho i am SO hyped to move!! I'll finally get away from the creepy guy upstairs (i could rant for days about him but he is 0/10 the worst)#it will be so cool having access to a kitchen!! and literally anything more than 1 singular room#(it isnt as bad as it sounds i just have a weird life. many strange happenings and phenomenons)#<- fun fact about me! because why not? no one knows where i came from and i dont 100% know if my birthday is my birthday#i just kinda. exist. @:P#i mean technically i was found somewhere and donated to some folks (they called some different people and whoever got there first got me)#but still i think it is very silly! i have no ties to a past not my lived one! i exist as a singularity!#anywho dont think about it too hard like i guess technically ive been orphaned like twice but shhhhhhhh#wow. i am so sleep deprived. i am so so sorry to anyone who may read this#i promise im normal#@:|

Phew. Wow. It's far too late, but Keiko's chapter is done, now I've just got Julian's final chapter to do tomorrow and editing and I'll have finished it? Sounds easy when I put it like that 😅
Not quite sure how this has ended up spanning into a 10k word fic in the last 3 days, but sure, I'll take it. Keiko appeared and just started running the story, and who am I to say no to her, y'know?

Writer Q&A
I was tagged by @clairelsonao3 and I think I'll leave it an open tag, because it's a whole lot of questions and I am tired and can't think.
What is your absolute all-time favorite idea you’ve ever had?
What if I started writing in English?
More under the cut, template at the end.
Is there a question you’ve been asked in the past that really stands out to you, and you still think about sometimes?
Ok so. Kinda two. One was basically "but does he have to be gay?" about a side character (Cedric) who just arrived with packed bags and a husband. It annoyed me so much, I made sure there wasn't a single confirmed straight char in the next book.
The other was also about Glass Shards, the first version of which was very similar to the current one, including the two scenes of SA. Which got basically a concerned "do you want to say anything with that?"
Which yes. I had a lot of frustrations back then, but not like that. And I get the question for the SA. No one asks me about the childhood trauma or any of the other shit. The possibility of people jumping to conclusions is always at the back of my mind when I think about sharing what I write.
What is your favorite part of being a writer? What parts could you take or leave?
Creating something. Just. I made something. I can hold it. I can share it. It exists, and it will not un-exist.
Fuck editing, though, I don't like it, and fuck worrying about putting it out there.
What is your greatest motivation to write/create?
The story I want to tell does not exist, so I need to write it.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever read or been given as a writer?
Not a piece, but a very dear friend once went through the trouble of leaving so. many. line. edits. on two of my chapters when I had just started out writing in English. I truly believe that has done more for my style than all the "don't use adverbs! :)" — "don't listen to them! >:(" posts ever could.
Half of those edits could probably be summarized as "please remove this and" 🤣 I like to think I've since gotten better at uh, balancing sentence structure and length 😬
What do you wish you knew when you were first starting out writing?
I think I answered something similar to this before, and it boils down to... I don't know. I think my progression was fine. There's no glaring problem that could have been fixed by a glorious piece of knowledge. Yes, I "wasted" years of my life trying to worldbuild, but I don't think I would have been ready to write a story I was happy with anyway, so whatever.
Without the hundreds of books I've read, without the roleplays I did, without the friends I found, without the games I played, I would not be where I am today, and I like where I am today. The time I spent experimenting, and the time I spent away from writing, doing other things I enjoyed, was not wasted.
What is your favorite story you’ve written to completion? Link it if you’d like and can!
Should I cheat and count the Glass Shard saga as one? I mean technically it starts at Nuisance and ends at Fancy Boots :)
I only wish I were done editing already, I know the first chapters especially can be better. But alas, it asked for story, not prose :p
Which of your characters would you say has the most controversial mindset? Why do you say so, and how do you personally feel about their ideals?
I mean, if we leave the bad guys out of this (I am sure hoping no one here agrees with Ed! 😂), Cedric is fun in fiction, but I actually do not think a murdery criminal is a good role model, no matter how kind he is to people he likes.
If you, when you first started writing, met you now, what would younger you think?
"Whoa, cool. Can I read that?"

You know there is one chapter in WBTL that I’m really excited to write and I have so many dialogue ideas/random phrases I find so good, I just decided to write them down because I’m worried I’ll forget them by the moment I’ll get to actually write the chapter. And you know what? This chapter is already 600+ words long.
#Was Born To Lead#THERE IS NO FREAKING DESCRIPTIONS IT’S LITERALLY JUST DIALOGUE LINES#IT LOOKS LIKE A FREAKING PLAY FOR NOW#And yet it’s so long already#Is it my curse I don’t understand it#Or do I just like writing characters talk hmm#I’m kinda taking this advice of writing stuff out of order#but if we’re being honest I’m actually just writing down phrases that have absolutely captured my mind recently#I replay them literally every day for like a week now#I think this is actually going to be one of the most emotional chapters in the entire fic#and for me possibly THE most emotional because it’s Valerio-centric and it’s really important to me on a personal level :P#Why else do you think I would constantly replay all those dialogues in my head slowly losing my mind :’D#Anyway I HOPE it’s going to be emotional or else I will burst into tears#But yeah I’m once again convinced I do love writing dialogues#and I think I even know the reason why#They’re just a lot easier than descriptions ajhdnfjjf#and I love conveying characters’ different personalities through speech#(and I have a fabulous sense of humor yeah#I’m just joking)#Anyway if this chapter ends up being longer than 10k words I’ll probably ignore the limit I set to myself XD#Yeah I have no writing mood at the moment#so instead of writing anything I’m just rambling about what’s going to happen like 10 chapters later#Ajhdndjfk but I hope I’ll come back to the writing mood someday because this story really gets more exciting with every next chapter#(this emotional Valerio chapter is called in my docs Chapter ? (becuase I don’t know the number yet XD) | The Last Choice#maybe I’ll give it a different title eventually though)#This is the updated concept of the history of the history man chapter :D#Oh my goodness it’s SO different from my original idea and I love it so much more#This is really a lot more emotional than it used to be#I love this man so much…

please do in fact infodump abt the pirate au :)) this seems rlly interesting
so uh. Um. where to start. OK tjis is gonna be long so. infodump under cut LOL
basically i got the idea cuze I watched the live action One Piece and i was like... mmm op x twa and then realised i could just make a fucking pirate au like a normal person JDKFJ- it still has a lot of inspo from OP (Jp and Critic's relationship in this AU basically like a combination of Usopp/Kaya and Sanji/Zoro and then warlords, marines and snail phones ive just kinda directly ripped off the show LOL) but otherwise its not that similar plot wise (mostly because i dont have a plot in mind at this point but tbh this is just a sillay au there doesn't need to be a plot 😇)
JP is a pirate captain cuz he just needs to have an important role smh 😒 his crew has 2 (maybe 3 idk yet) people aside from himself and he wants to throw borh of them off the ship real bad but cant cuze then who'd he be annoying to?!
andd obviously JC and Critic are part of his crew lmao. JC ive no idea abt tbh i ONLY have a design for him and nothing else HSJHDJSF- annd i do not know how to explain Critic in this AU. It's gonna be easier to understand after I finish their designs i think.
Greed is a warlord :) or a marine captain I CANNOT decide!! But im leaning towards warlord cuz world domination and shit (plus I think General Chainsaw prlly fits marine better and that means. greedsaw rea- [gunshot]/j)
Oh and then um other sponsorship war characters um Ace(conspiracy guy) is a pirate & Kacey(knight commander) is an ex-marine and/or pirate hunter because. conspimmander angst. i need it injected into my veins /j.
yeah thats all the roles i have thought out without going into all my very minor scenarios i have thought out LOL- feel free to think of sillay stuff based on these andor ask more abt them PLEASE I am so hyperfixated on this idea!!!

"RIP Backpage... You will be missed dearly buyt never forgotten as you will live on in the hearts of every mark ass trick, trick ass mark, scip scap scallwop as long as there are Johns paying for sex."
Imagine if the ghost of backpage past decided it was going to haunt every John who tried to skip on on paying a hooker after they fullfilled their verbal contract plus some. Recently, a buddy of mine offered my homegirl 40 dollars to suck his dick to which she obliged becuase she was broke and homeless and needed the money. After getting past the insulting amount of the offer she blows him down with as much energy as she could muster, after a 3 or 4 day run during which she did not sleep even a wink.
$40 bucks doesn't buy the most epic blowjob right guys....
The guy was such a creep that he violated her only rule which was to keep his hands off the back of her head. Her reason doesn't matter she told him before she accepted money and he agreed but for moment one he kept trying to slam a square peg through a round hole. Some girls like it when you do that and some girls only tolerate it but this day in age even if you are paying for it you don't get to do whatever you want... now check this out, I have been the receptient of numerous free blowjobs from this girl.....top notch and I never put my hands on her not once....but this guy not only touched her head but it sounded like he was trying to orce her to do something she didn't wanna do and why the fuck would you do that bro she already has your dick all her her mouth. She tells you the third time as she has to stop what shes doing, remove said dick from her mouth stand up and come and get me to tell me what happened.
I thought she was just going to my neighbors for a fucking sandwhich jesus christ
I said. "Well do you have the money still?" I asked her calmly.
"Yes," she says and then adds, "I dont' have to give it back do I, I still did what I said I was gonna do." These damaged drug addicted streetwalkers from the streets of Portland man, tugging on my heart strings.
"No you don't have to give it back... do you want to go spend it right now or do yo you need to save it for something?" she answered with a resounding....
"Both"
"Give me 20 of it and when you need to spend it I will give it back to you I promise ok. Thats your money I don't want anyone to try to punk you out for it or talk you out of it or try to borrow it or even just have you lose it. Here's a receipt if you worried about trusting me but you don't have too. It sounds like this guy didn't quite rape you, but he should still be talked too and officially warned by another man so it has the right effect does that sounds like a proper move going forward... or do you want this guy to get smacked around its up to you...
Just know that your words here have effects in the wreal world.
You say smack him around and I will smack him around five minutes from now until he feels that same fear and anxiety you felt with his hands on the back of your head.
She thanked me the only way she knew how... with a good old fashioned blow job that curled the toes and loosened the soul a llittle bit...
The moral of the story is don't be a fucking lame and offer yoru homeboys friend money to suck your dick...
get a real hooker and spend real hooker money.... also.... giving money to a hooker is a one way road... once they get it, they are not giving it up. Follow me for more great street smartz stories, tricks and tips from a Pimp {me} to help save you {Simps} one Pimp or Power move at a time.
The ghost of Backpage past has now spoken and after haunting said Pimps and ho's it must now head back to where ever it came from oly to reappear again when it is needed to play
