So uh I realise that I never posted this. This was made as entry for a Creative Challenge in the Discord server for the game Amber Isle! Everything went but had to be Amber Isle themed and it was for Halloween thus I drew 3 of my ocs with my dinosona as Paleofolk! Night Oasis is telling a spookie story.

I think her music is mostly darkened pop/neofolk/new age. She never learned the core of black metal: woeful psychedelic/religious/meditative/paleofolk music, where technique gives way to true and simple sentiment, which is fine per se.

But if she wants to delve in the dark more, she needs to learn to ditch the idea of "song" and begin making "music" where the human voice is but an instrument, instead of the pop music structure, making the vocal and melodic part 80% of the piece.

Besides, she needs to understand that black metal has extremely simple and repetitive melody lines, which contrasts the practice of making sweet, pretty and yet shallow melodies the selling point.

My next paleofolk project are different pterosaur species with different pride flags and since it’s Dearc’s birthday what better way to start.

So,, this is easily the most asked question we’ve gotten about Amber Isle! 👀 Originally we’d only planned on playable human characters for narrative and customisation reasons. However, there’s been such a clear desire from the community to create and play as your very own Paleofolk character.  So! We're asking for the community’s input on playable Paleofolk: 🗳 Vote in a poll on our Discord server. This lets us get an idea of how many people really, really want this as a feature. Any chance of cambrian critters being featured in the game? Anomalocaris and Opabinia, of course, but I'm secretly holding out hope for some Tully Monster rep!

We don't want to spoil any Paleofolk reveals by giving away any specifics, but we are planning on Cambrian, Devonian and Permian Paleofolk as well as the expected roster of Mesozoic ones! Stay tuned in the meantime! ✨

🐟 Character concepts for everyone’s favourite devonian placoderm: Dunkleosteus!  Art & Designs by Exty! We explored a bunch of different ideas for this character, but ultimately went with the writer, as we thought the juxtaposition of a marine creature trying to write with paper and ink would be super endearing!  Then, we opted to explore more realistic patterns and warm colours for her and tweaked her final design to have more accurate soft tissue. Here’s the end result!

Introducing Amber Isle’s newest Paleofolk, Penn the Archaeopteryx! 💗❄

Here are some early character concepts! Despite being 90% floof, as a Tundra resident, he knits oversized scarves & hats to keep extra warm. You may notice his sling - an accident as a hatchling damaged his wing feathers, sadly making flight difficult for our sweet, soft son :’>

Colour passes! We needed more pink in our roster, so for this lil' fella, we looked at flamingo & cockatoo patterns for inspiration. Then in his final design, we incorporated black colouration on his feather tips, nodding to colouration evidence in IRL archaeopteryx! ✨

We try to strike a balance between colourful, stylised cartoony designs and accuracy to the real-life animal counterparts, making every Paleofolk a fun, unique design challenge. We’d love to hear what sort of Paleofolk y’all want to see from us next!  🦖🧡

🌵Desert Props!🌵 ‘Desert’ is one of the environments available for your village in Amber Isle. This allows you to invite Desert exclusive Paleofolk to permanently live on your island! You can also unlock special decor, such as ancient ruins, pottery and even dust baths for feathered Paleofolk. However, too much ‘Desert’ area may be too hot to handle for some of your colder climate villagers, so be sure to keep that in mind when designing your island!
