Wheel of the Year by panharmonium
It's the last year in Ealdor for both of them, though they don’t know it yet. | Merlin and his peasant prince, as the wheel turns. In eight parts.

This is my completed ficbind of Wheel of the Year by @panharmonium. I'm so excited to have it on my shelf as an actual physical book!
The typeset and cover design has a growth/leaves motif to pay homage to how the story feels rooted in the changing of the seasons. The cover colours were chosen to for similar reasons (gold/brown tones to represent earth & fields + Merlin's magic, blue/green to represent the Ea + Merlin's eyes & growth/life).
Many thanks to panharmonium for their blessing to bind this story, and to the folks at @renegadepublishing who have been a great inspiration and a great help in getting into this hobby.

Murder She WTF
Is this track too weird? Please tell me. It's the answer to the question, "Can I make a track on a modern MPC with nothing but samples of a TV show taken from an old VHS tape and run through a modular synth?"
To be nerdy about it, it's an attempt to update and adapt musique concrète techniques and intent to our modern, media-saturated landscape. It recognizes and to varying degrees incorporates elements from similar approaches that evolved after musique concrète, whether derived or evolved essentially in parallel (eg hip-hop, electronic dance music, Plunderphonics, et al).

Curiosity Killed the Cat: A Dreamersscape Story
Which doesn't seem quite fair, really, considering although I like cats a great deal, you still wouldn't call me a cat person.
Step #1: Love Kakashi Hatake far too much as a character.
Step #2: Scroll through his tumblr tag. Slowly start noticing that people often draw parallels between him and another character from the currently-running Jujutsu Kaisen manga and anime, Satoru Gojo.
Step #3: Think, "This is fine. It appears they're mostly just comparing their similar character designs and they both have unique things going on with their eyes. I'm not seeing anything that's really piquing my interest with this series; I'll just quickly look up if there's anything more to these comparisons beyond surface-level resemblances and that will be that."
Step #4: One of the next things you learn about Gojo is that a common clickbait-y way to frame discussion around parts of his personality is along the lines of, "Does Gojo have a God complex?"
Step #5: Think, "Ah, okay. That's likely an exaggeration, but probably Kakashi and Gojo can't be all that similar, or at least I likely wouldn't feel much the same about them as characters. Now I'm simply curious how far off Gojo actually is from having a God complex and then I'll be done."
Step #6: Did not back out of this rabbit hole at this juncture.
Step #7: Hard to recollect exactly the order of things from here, but learned that Gojo is the teacher for his own group of 3 fifteen-year-old students (and also previously taught older students since he's the head of first-year high school students at his very small school), learned back when Gojo was a student at this same school he had a very close friend who was instrumental in imbuing Gojo with his current moral principles and this friend is now dead, and learned that Gojo is the unequivocally strongest character within his universe's power system, and thus while he has a LOT of confidence in his own abilities and can be a bit cocky and a show-off, he definitely doesn't think of himself as godlike (anyone who's familiar with JJK and reading this--I'm aware of 'the honored one' thing, hang on a sec).
Step #8: Decide, "Alright then. Well, I am starting to get more intrigued by this series. Maybe I'll look up a little more about it and watch the first episode or two. It'll be fine. After all, I get now why people are reminded of Kakashi by Gojo and vice versa, but it certainly sounds like Gojo's personality is basically the opposite of someone who's convinced they're scum and is incredibly unassuming and humble and could honestly use a bit more self-worth so he at least possesses a modicum of self-preservation inclination. Gojo seems to have a lighthearted, goofy side that is partly used as a cover for his deeper emotions, and I might get attached to that based on other characters I've loved, but that still ought to be pretty safe. If I do wind up liking Gojo the most out of all the characters, there's no way he'll put me through the same heart-wrenching agony as seeing Kakashi being a paragon of strength of character and sheer goodness, while inwardly he can't see anything of value in himself."
The thing is, I wasn't wrong.
But clearly, I underestimated the pain I could still experience at the hands of a Kakashi-adjacent character.
(All I'm about to explain is completely non-spoilery, by the way. And by that I mean I'm not going to be ruining any major plot points or the "viewing experience" of watching the anime or reading the manga. Anything I reference that happens at any point beyond the first few chapters, I'll be as vague and opaque about it as possible, as well as very brief. And it will also all be basic background info/set up level stuff.)
Okay, so before I get to the real kicker, let's start with Gojo's dream.
In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, the chakra equivalent is called cursed energy. However, cursed energy is not a life force. Cursed energy arises from people's negative emotions, and if the quantities of negative emotions emitted by the populace is large and concentrated enough, this creates cursed spirits of various sorts. For example, humanity's collective fear and pain experienced through natural disasters created a cursed spirit out of that resulting enormous amount of cursed energy. Cursed spirits usually aren't sentient, but almost unerringly they cause great harm and often death to humans. The number we're given at the start of the manga is around 10,000 unexplained deaths and missing persons per year in Japan are the result of curses.
Jujutsu sorcerers are the people who exorcize (or destroy, more like) cursed spirits to mitigate that as much as possible. They exorcize the curses with cursed energy-fueled techniques that are unique to each sorcerer. A sorcerer's innate cursed technique (CT) is said to comprise around 80% of their potential/talent as a fighter of curses. We're told that over the course of the last, I don't know, century or so (?) - the date at the start of the series is June 2018 - curse spirits have been increasing in strength and number. However, the incredibly rare combination of the Limitless cursed technique and the Six Eyes in-born trait Gojo was born with is so powerful that his birth alone swung the balance from being in the curses' favor back over to the side of the jujutsu sorcerers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Details on Gojo's childhood are quite sparse, basically the only things we know about the Gojo family are it's one of the three big clans in jujutsu society and they're very wealthy. As far as I'm aware, Satoru is the only member of the clan we've ever met. So there's only supposition for what his home life was like up until he started at Jujutsu High, but we do know that because his possessing both the Six Eyes and Limitless was the first occurrence of such in 300-400 years, his existence was something of a spectacle and many sorcerers came to visit him just to see it for themselves, and too, he was the target of curse users (sorcerers who use jujutsu for evil and their own selfish gain) in pursuit of the over 100 million yen bounty placed on his head since he was very young.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It would be pretty reasonable to assume Gojo was subsequently rather sheltered and perhaps quite lonely as a child, but at the same time praised and lauded for how he was so naturally, prodigiously powerful. It only makes sense that Gojo has more than a little pride in his strength and puts so much stock in that. I'm sure he really enjoyed the attention and notoriety he received, and he never expresses resentment regarding any pressure that might have been put on him as a kid to be the infallible (future?) vanquisher of curses (although later I do think he places more and more pressure on himself to "take care" of everything and be responsible for the safety of everyone in the jujutsu world and beyond), and yet I do believe it's apparent he understands he didn't get to have a "normal" childhood. As a part of one of the big clans, he was surrounded and immersed in the political power plays and jockeying for prestige and influence by jujutsu society's elders/leaders/'higher ups' from the start (we don't know when or how it happened, but presumably because he's the strongest living Gojo, at the start of the story Satoru is the head of the clan), and these higher ups view Gojo in terms of how he can best be used for their own benefit. Outside of his high school best friend and later a few of his students, Gojo has very few people who have more than a cursory understanding of who he is as a person, who seem to want to know him, not the living embodiment of the title 'The Strongest', but just Satoru Gojo. Gojo likes being The Strongest, but when that's all everyone around him appears to care about, it leaves him feeling very isolated and alone.
As I mentioned before, though, Gojo never complains about this. He doesn't ever even imply "because I was treated this way, I want to prevent anyone else having to go through that." He does tell one of the people he's somewhat close to what his aim is and what the reason is behind it, but it's worded in a way where the person is confused by Gojo's explanation, and we as the reader can't even be sure he's referring to himself, since it could just as easily be in reference to his deceased friend.
Tumblr media
It's informed by his experiences growing up certainly, but Gojo's fierce desire to give the kids he watches over the opportunity to fully and freely enjoy their youth is not about regretting what he missed out on; it's about what he can do for them, doing all he can to protect and preserve their childhood and making sure no one can take that away from them.
I realize I haven't exactly explained what precisely Gojo's 'dream' is and how it ties into all this, so I'll attempt to circle back to that now.
Jujutsu Kaisen begins with our main character, Yuji Itadori, accidentally stumbling his way into the jujutsu world by doing something very dangerous in order to be in what he thinks is a better position to help his friends out of a bad situation. He succeeds in helping his friends, but what he had to do to make that happen is an action that is punishable by death under jujutsu regulations. Naturally, Yuji was unaware of that, but it doesn't matter to the sorcerer higher ups. Gojo hears about the situation, intervenes, and is able to get the elders to suspend Yuji's execution for the time being. I'm glossing over a bunch of stuff but let's roll with that for now. While Gojo is explaining the whole situation to Yuji, the first thing he tells Yuji about the higher ups is that he thinks they're a bunch of cowards. And really, that's just the tip of the iceberg for how Gojo feels towards these leaders. He's not a fan of them by any stretch of the imagination. I said above Gojo never voices resentment directed at them over his lack of a carefree childhood, and that's true, however his dislike of the higher ups does seem to be partly personal. We just don't know the specifics other than that when he criticizes them (to their faces or a fellow colleague) he sticks to their wrongful actions on the whole, not how they've wronged him. A handful of episodes later, the higher ups pull something really awful and underhanded while Gojo is away on another mission, a scheme that is partially motivated by wanting to get back at Gojo for interfering with Yuji. Newly and deeply angered by this, Gojo delves further into the corruption at the top of the jujutsu world and then tells us about his dream:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A similar scene happens one year previous to this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Gojo doesn't use it anywhere near as frequently, but his saying 'what a pain' about many a situation still manages to give me Shikamaru feelings and I enjoy that.)
What stands out to me the most here is how much Gojo WANTS the students/his allies to be equal to or surpass him in strength. He's not at all concerned with keeping his position and accompanying power all to himself like the higher ups are. During one of the first chapters of the manga/show, to allay someone's uneasiness over potential danger, Gojo tells them, "Don't worry, I'm the strongest." It's only later that we learn when he was much younger he was originally quite happy to say, "Anyway, it should be okay. We're the strongest." I really think he would like nothing better than to be able to say that once again.
In an unusual turn of events for me, when I caught up to the JJK manga a few months ago, I actually had pretty good timing with what was currently going on, but now the story is starting to enter into its final stages and it seems like a lot of people in the fandom feel the narrative is very possibly leading to Gojo's death in some way that will better enable this brighter, less corrupt future for the jujutsu world and his students that he's been working towards this entire time. I don't think that would be a bad outcome, I'm not against noble sacrifices entirely, but I really, really, really don't want to see this happen. And here's where my unexpected Kakashi-adjacent feelings come into play. The reasons for why I'm so invested in seeing both Kakashi and Gojo live to be a part of the better world they helped create are pretty different. Yet, they're also not miles apart. I don't think Gojo has as many doubts as Kakashi that he has a place in the future of which he dreams, but from what I can tell his main focus is on that future existing for everyone else. Maybe he believes that is his purpose as The Strongest? Probably he does have every intention of being there with his fellows. I just want that for him so very much. For the few glimpses of kid!Gojo we got, who always looked so solemn; for the teenage Gojo with the biggest, goofiest smiles, who had so much connection ripped away prematurely; for Gojo the teacher, who works so hard to make every kid feel welcome and excited and to know they aren't alone. I'm aware of the kind of story I'm reading--Jujutsu Kaisen is unrelentingly brutal to its characters. It's a matter of course to have your heart mercilessly stomped on over and over reading JJK. It's not the sort of story where you can reasonably expect a happy ending. Unfortunately, I'm much too optimistic of a person for this manga and I'm far too attached to the story and characters and I'm in way, way too deep.
But let's ignore all that for now and get to the Kakashi-adjacent part of Gojo which clobbered me over the head with feels even worse than what I've already detailed!
@panharmonium, when you've reached this part of the post, I can't really guess what you're thinking about it all, but what if I told you that one of Gojo's students, Megumi Fushiguro, the Sasuke-adjacent one, was, along with his one-year-older step-sister Tsumiki, quasi-adopted/looked after/raised by Gojo from the time Megumi was six/in first grade and Gojo was just nineteen? By blood, Megumi is actually a member of the Zen'in clan, another of the three major clans in jujutsu society. Gojo, fresh out of high school and still newly, painfully estranged from his best friend, hears by chance that Megumi, who's on his own at this time apart from Tsumiki (also parentless), is about to be sold to the Zen'in because of the cursed technique he's just manifested, and although it has nothing to do with him, Gojo goes to Megumi and asks him if he wants to go live with the Zen'in. Upon learning if he chooses this, Tsumiki will be very unhappy (the Zen'in clan cares nothing for her and they are by-and-large super blatantly misogynistic), Megumi says no and Gojo's like, "Cool, that's great! I'll take care of everything and I'll make sure you two have everything you need. I want you to grow up strong!" And then there's a moment in the manga, where present-day Gojo is taking a nap and dreams of this first meeting between himself and Megumi and when he wakes up to his three students coming to see him he does this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND THE SECOND SEASON OF THE ANIME JUST STARTED AIRING A FEW WEEKS AGO AND THAT MEANS I'LL BE ABLE TO SEE THIS MOMENT ANIMATED POSSIBLY AS SOON AS AUGUST 3RD (DUB PROBABLY AUGUST 17TH) AND I'M GONNA DIE. HE LOVES THAT KID SO MUCH!!!!!
So obviously that's super sweet and all, but maybe you're thinking, "Okay, that's nice, but do they really have that Kakashi 'n' Sasuke vibe?" and to that I say, "CHECK OUT THIS SHORT VIDEO AND THEN HOPEFULLY I CAN REST MY CASE."
youtube
Also, it is now my most important goal in life to draw a Kakashi & Sasuke version of these panels so I can dedicate it to you (and padmerrie if she wants in on this):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, I'm not saying Sasuke and Megumi are carbon copies of each other (or Kakashi and Gojo for that matter, as I've tried to delineate above). Megumi has a bit of a grumpy disposition, but he's also very polite; he always calls Gojo "Gojo-sensei" and he uses "-senpai" for all the upperclassmen (who he met previously to becoming a student at Jujutsu High). Megumi is the dog guy in JJK and Gojo's more reminiscent of a cat in some respects. Etc., etc., etc. But in general, I really hope you see the vision!
While I'm at it, I might as well show you the little Gojo & Yuji video that naturally gives me all the Kakashi & Naruto feelings:
youtube
Yuji's already got the jubilantly-tackle-hug-your-sensei part down! (Although, of course, Gojo's much less resistant.🥰)
Tumblr media
It is admittedly much more of a stretch to say Nobara is Sakura-adjacent, but I have seen someone describe her as a 'gremlin child' and I love that about her! <3
Anyway, I totally get if none of this is up your alley for whatever reason or you don't have the time to get into JJK if this happens to persuade you or if you just want to prioritize other stuff right now. *I* didn't mean to get into it, after all! The plan for my looking into JJK was to be purely for enhancing my love for Kakashi, and I failed spectacularly at limiting myself to that. I just thought I would share to see if it would be a fun read for you. :)

Spoils of War (Naruto Fluff Fic)
Little fic that I had in mind after seeing this scene.
Tumblr media
I was like, wondering if Kakashi truly will bring the kids to Ichiraku shop when Teuchi knows his face? The answer is yes, because Sukea is our beloved troll Kakashi-sensei who loves the kids so much.
Categories : Gen, little pairing hints if you squints, overused of words with -ly
Word count : 1,211
Ao3 link
----
“Aaahh damnit we failed!”
After the full 5 minutes of Naruto and his classmates staring at the place where Kakashi’s clone dispersed, their heads drop heavily. Those kids’ collective crestfallen faces look so pitiful that even the most cold-blooded person will feel pity for them.
Well, Sukea is certainly not cold-blooded.
“Haah, that was very unfortunate indeed, so how about we lift our spirits in Ichiraku right now?”
Sakura lifts her downcast head, “Eh, do you still wanna treat us? Even though you didn’t get your scoop?”
“He better will still treat us, chasing Kakashi-sensei around makes me so hungry, shannaro!” Inner Sakura secretly hollers.
“Maa, that’s fine. Besides I promise to treat you guys if you help me, don’t I?  Failing aside, all of your efforts are very useful for my data gathering.” says the journalist while he tucks his camera back in his bag.
Hearing Sukea’s words, any trance of disappointment vanishes from their faces, and the kids brightly grin at each other. Even Shikamaru and Sasuke let out pleased smiles.
“Yatta!!!”
----
“Teuchi-occan! We came!”
Teuchi turns away toward the familiar cheerful voice. Naruto is a (secretly his favorite) regular customer of his shop, and the boy’s happy face while he devours his ramen is his daily prize as ramen chef. Today, unusually he comes with many kids his age and a quite handsome man.
“Welcome! Ooh you bring many friends now, Naruto!”
Naruto slams the table hard.
“Occan, bring me my usual Tonkotsu Ramen extra pork!”
“Me too, but with beef!”, the boy with Inuzuka crest on his still plump cheeks butts in.
“Woof!”
“I-I’d like the same ramen as Naruto-kun..” a small girl, possibly from Hyuuga clan, appears behind the Inuzuka boy and shyly seats next to Naruto. Seeing the petite girl, Teuchi worries that she can’t finish her food, because Naruto’s ramen portion is quite big and heavy.
(Later, he finds out that his concern is futile).
“I order vegetable ramen with melon as dessert. Because, those are healthy meals, thus also my favorite.” Is that glasses boy from Aburame clan? That’s a surprise, because to Teuchi’s knowledge Aburame people prefer to eat alone.
A laid-back boy that looks like from Nara clan slouches on his seat “Guess I’ll have Shoyu Ramen with extra nori.”
Sasuke, Naruto’s Uchiha teammate takes a seat next to Naruto’s other side and hums, “Tomato Ramen.”
“I also want Tomato Ramen!” the blonde girl says bubbly while she moves to the seat next to Sasuke.
Sakura, Naruto’s other teammate, pushes the girl away, “Don’t copy Sasuke-kun’s order Ino-pig!”
“Tomato Ramen is my favorite too, Forehead!”
“I want 20 portions of gyoza!! Sukea-san will pay for it!” A boy that is clearly from Akimichi clan yells eagerly. Ah, then the blond girl is from Yamanaka. She indeed quite resembles Inoichi-san.
“Ahahaha, goodbye my savings..” The only adult that came with the kids rubs his back dejectedly. Knowing how massive Naruto and his friends’ usual appetite, Teuchi almost feels sorry for the man.
Wait, his face seems familiar...
"Eh, you are...”
The man waves his hand, “Hello! Please to meet you. I am Sukea, a traveling journalist.”
“He wants to write a scoop about Kakashi-sensei’s face, so we help him to unmask Kakashi-sensei in exchange for food.” the pink-haired girl explains.
Oh, so they still try to see Kakashi-san’s constantly masked face. As someone who serves ramen to the Jounin ever since the boy and his former team got dragged to his shop by a jolly red-headed kunoichi, Teuchi can’t relate to their frustration at all.
But-
“But we failed though.” Sasuke grunts. The boy feigns nonchalance, but the old ramen chef can see his frustrated pout.
“Uhh it was so close, so frustrating!” wails the Yamanaka girl.
Even the Akimichi boy who is usually always happy inside any place to eat laments sadly, “Even with Shikamaru’s strategy...”
The Shikamaru boy in question argues “Ugh, can’t help it, our opponent is Konoha’s top jonin. At least my strategy is better than Naruto’s.”
Hearing his peer’s accusation, Naruto fiercely retorts, “Hey, what’s wrong with my ‘Peek on Kakashi-sensei’s face while he kisses me’ plan?!!”
“N-naruto-kun, that’s...” stutters the Hyuuga girl, who blushes harder than usual. Seeing her embarrassed face, Naruto apparently realizes what he just said, and panics.
“Waah Hinata, I-I don’t mean it like that! It’s not like I wanna kiss a man, a boy, a male, tha- that’s just a strategy in a pinch... Teme Sasuke, what’s with that side eyes, If you want to say something, say it clearly!!”
“Hmph.” the Uchiha boy turned his face away from his loud teammate.
“It’s obvious that plan will not work. Because, Kakashi-sensei is not a sexual harasser.” The Aburame boy interjects calmly. The said Jounin’s kunoichi student grumbles flippantly.
“Says about a man who read adult books in public. But I am confident that my medical manipulation can fool him, though...”
Depressed aura suddenly envelops the kids. Well, luckily they are in the great Ichiraku shop, his delicious ramens will surely fix their moods.
“But with our combined forces, we are so close to dismantling him, so we are quite amazing, don’t you think?!” the boy from Inuzuka interjects excitedly, effectively pulling his friends out of their distressed state.
“Woof!”
Hearing his friend’s confident declaration, Naruto beams.
“Yosha, one day we will surely rip off Kakashi-sensei’s mask and see his baffled face!”
Sukea, who is content to see the kids’ banter ever since they entered his shop, chuckles affectionately, pulls his camera out of his bag.
“That’s the spirit! Someday, I am sure that you guys will become stronger in the future and even surpass that Hatake Kakashi! When that time comes, I’ll happily make praising articles for all of you.”
Thanks to those words, delighted sparks come back in the kids’ eyes.
“Ooohh!”
“My article will be the longest!”
“No, mine is!”
“Then I must diet for my article photo!”
“No amount of diet can magically make you pretty, Forehead.”
“Same as you Ino-pig!!”
“Praising articles exclusive for me! Haha that’s not bad!”
“Article will be nice. Because, it will uplift our clan’s reputation.”
“Clan’s reputation..”
Leaving the kids to bicker with themselves, Sukea takes a few more pictures, then averts his fond eyes to the ramen counter.
“Then I’ll have Miso Ramen please.”
Suddenly, Teuchi knows why the man’s face is familiar to him. Pictures of an arrogant boy flash in his mind, then turns into a gloomy teenager, then again drastically turns into an easygoing young man. People that accompany him to the ramen shop change over time, some disappear for various reasons and others appear for various reasons, but his order is always the same. No matter how he grows up, the silver-haired boy in his memory will always enjoy the taste of Ichiraku original miso diluted in hot soup, with his always hidden little mole bobbing happily.
“He’s...Kakashi-”
As if he hears Teuchi’s inner mind, Sukea stares straight into his eyes, forcefully stopping the ramen chef’s thought process. Away from the kids’ sight, the mysterious journalist brings his finger in front of his mouth, although the said gesture does nothing to cover the beauty mark on the side of his lips.
The mysterious journalist winks mischievously.
“Sshhh..”

eve palmer-sikelianos (1874-1952) was an american composer, choreographer, master weaver, and apphic feminist, whose devotion to ancient greek traditions helped inspire a modern revival of ancient greek culture. eva's compositions were unique in their unadorned melodies, projecting the ancient into modernist music, well before minimalism. she studied ecclesiastical byzantine music in athens. she helped create a custom micro-tonal organ, the evion panharmonium, to play the 42 intervals unique to byzantine tuning. un her stagings of ancient greek tragedies during the late 1920s, she provided the choreography and hand-woven costumes, as well as some of the music. the rest of her music, mostly composed in the late 1930s and early 1940s, consistently focused on Greek-language monophonic chant, composed in byzantine notation, for voice, flute, cello, and oboe.

RULES: Share the last line you wrote for your WIP and tag as many people as there are words.
“If the words, ‘It’s a dry heat,’ come out of your mouth, I’m leaving you to sweat to death by yourself,” Fennec said, but Boba caught the flicker of a smile she couldn’t fully repress.
From Quid Pro Quo, the fic about Boba Fett and Fennec Shand experiencing the mortifying ordeal of becoming friends that is currently languishing in outline hell. I haven’t written anything in months, but I am also incapable of resisting a tag meme, especially when tagged by @panharmonium, beloved first tumblr mutual. I will not be tagging as many people as there are words because that’s a long fucking sentence, but I will tag my mutuals that I think currently have WIPs: @apostatefrog , @lazuliquetzal , @yellowocaballero , @ryehouses . And if you, dear reader, want to do this, then please consider yourself also tagged.

I'm sure you're already aware of this person in the Naruto Fandom, but I HIGHLY recommend checking out panharmonium's tumblr blog if you haven't yet!
Their analysis of the characters, Kakashi specifically, are top notch if I do say so myself. :]
I follow them :)
They put out some of my fav meta’s of Kakashi, and i love that they think of things in a sense of ‘what makes this character unique and interesting’ rather than ‘what makes this character stronger than others’
It’s a refreshing and fun take and they always have good takes on Kakashi that i enjoy

please link the bibliography fic please
HERE YOU GO! it's called Wheel of the Year by panharmonium and it's for the bbc merlin fandom—specifically, it's set as a prequel of sorts to the beginning of the show (the last year before merlin leaves for camelot, which he arrives in in the first episode) and honestly i think it can be read without even watching the show just because of how GOOD it sets up the village of ealdor and the way they live. the only thing you have to know is that a) merlin has magic (obviously), b) magic is not widely accepted (to put it lightly. sorcerors get burned alive and whatnot) and that c) will is merlin's childhood friend in the show that he grew up with, and this is the story of their last year together. and like. i've read and reread this story front to back and back to front. i've even read the sources listed in the bibliography. and it's just so much fucking fun!!! it's such a good read!!! i love it so much!!!

Writing Patterns (Tag Game)
Rules: list the first line of your last 10 (posted) fics and see if there's a pattern!
@queerofthedagger, thank you for tagging me 🥰 !
I might be breaking the rules a bit, but I'm going to skip my recent drabbles (because my writing process for those is different from my regular process), and any fics I co-wrote with others (because the writing isn't 100% mine).
Looking through these lines, I notice that I seem to be an environmental writer. My instinct is to quickly establish tactile setting? Interesting 🤔
---
"A buzzing, aching thing was pressed behind his forehead, and Merlin’s eyes felt swollen shut." (As You Held Me Down, You Said:, BBC Merlin)

WIP GAME
Thanks so much for the tag, @panharmonium! I've been needing a little push to start getting words actually typed out again. :)
RULES: Share the last line you wrote for your WIP and tag as many people as there are words.
Except, this isn't quite the most recent sentence. It is, however, a sentence that mostly doesn't feel like it needs further tweaking, so there's that? Which is nice, since it also happens to be the first sentence in the story, whoops.
The bite in the late autumn air sharpened as the sun fully set, but the chill sweeping through Kakashi had nothing to do with the plummeting temperature.
"What are you saying, Rin?"
I can't think of anyone else currently in the midst of writing pursuits besides @exlibrisfangirl, so I guess you're the sole lucky recipient of being tagged on this one, Mel!

10 Foreshadowing of Kakashi (and Obito)’s story on Wave arc
Inspired by @professor-of-naruto ‘s tags on this post that I agreed so much and prompted me to make this rare Kishimoto appreciation post. I may have some beef with Kishimoto’s writing choice, but there is a reason why Naruto series is so well-liked. Kakashi is one of character who is very satisfying to rewatch because his whole story is unveiled little by little with some hints on the prior, and Kishimoto delivered it (quite) perfectly.
As Kakashi fan, reading Wave arc after knowing all Kakashi’s past story, feel so different and I noticed many details that would get callback on future chapters. I compiled 10 of them, but probably there are other hints that I miss, feel free to correct me anytime.
1. Heroes’ tale start with a bridge
Probably the most obvious similarities on this list, but still very noteworthy. Wave arc is practically the mission that started Naruto’s journey as hero. In the mission to protect the construction of a bridge, Naruto learned to empathized with Inari, learned about Haku’s philosophy and the reality of shinobi, to then he used his ultimate technique of “Talk-no-Jutsu” for the very first time, a.k.a Naruto’s ability to touch people’s hearts by his words and determined actions, that made him the Savior.
Tumblr media
While in the past, on a destruction of a bridge, unfolds a tale that shaped Kakashi’s journey as the formidable hero we all know and admire. Just like Naruto learned many things from Wave arc, Kakashi also got many things from Kakashi Gaiden arc, like his Sharingan, the first time he safely used Chidori, along with his prime philosophy “those who abandon one of their friend are worse than scum”. And in narrative standpoint, both arc and last monologue are treated as “the start of hero’s journey”.
Tumblr media
I personally like how Kishimoto drew hopeful atmosphere of Naruto with the finished bridge,
Tumblr media
in contrast with bittersweet feeling of Kakashi panel along with the destroyed bridge.
Tumblr media
2. “Please understand him. He has his own side of the story”
There are many things that I feel disconnected with Naruto fandom regarding Kakashi’s character interpretation, but perhaps one of the most memorable whip-slash for me is how most Naruto fandom portray Kakashi as this rigid sadistic military teacher. For example, this video summarized fandom’s collective agreement that Minato is the soft nurturing teacher while Kakashi beats his students left and right during training. I was like, yeah Kakashi has his stern moment, but it was started and ended on Bell test. After that, he’s actually a very gentle teacher just like Minato, if not more. And we’ve shown this even since the early Wave arc, when his student Naruto scolded Inari harshly and Kakashi tried to explained Naruto’s circumstances to Inari.
Tumblr media
Just like Minato explained the circumstances of Kakashi that made him utter such harsh words to Obito (the difference is in Wave arc Kakashi is the one who took the initiative).
Tumblr media
And then both of these gentle senseis tried to instill that, despite those harsh words, Kakashi and Naruto actually care for Obito and Inari in their own way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(seeing those two panel next to each other made my heart flutters, like boy you really grew up beautifully from a bitter boy to a gentle man)
3. Rule-breaker dads, their tragic death, and their changed sons
@panharmonium already made an outstanding meta about this (must read!), that Kaiza’s tale is eerily so similar with Sakumo’s tragic story, both violent and quite frankly dishonorable death in front of their sons as the result of “disrupted the order of the land”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And just like Inari ripped his dad’s photo from the family picture, Kakashi also never spoke about his father ever since his suicide. After those tragic deaths, memories of their dads must be so painful for both little Kakashi and Inari.
Tumblr media
It was not shown but very likely on that panel above little Kakashi had the exact same face as Inari when he watched Kaiza’s death.
4. “Hero is real, and does exist!”
Our MC Naruto, after hearing Kaiza’s story, felt motivated to train more and be a hero like Kaiza, similar with how Obito validated Sakumo’s heroic action to Kakashi after hearing Sakumo’s story.
Tumblr media
It’s up to interpretation, but I think Kakashi rose up a little from his chair when Naruto made his declaration. Considering how much Kakashi noted how similar Naruto with kid Obito on War arc, I wonder if he saw Naruto’s back and reminded him of Obito’s back on this scene
Tumblr media
5. Familiar Kyuubi chakra
On Naruto’s first Kyuubi awakening, non-Konoha shinobi like Zabuza and Haku were understandably had no clue about the nature of chakra that they felt. They just sensed that it was appalling and dangerous.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But Kakashi immediately recognized the power, noting how foul and evil it is, how it’s familiar to him, with a little bit denial because it’s Kakashi we are talking about here.
Tumblr media
(sometimes I admire Kakashi’s “innocence”. After everything that happen to him, he still had in him to be surprised when the universe decided to throw some shits on him. Bijuu break-out on your first combative mission? Yeah after your friend turned into Bijuu bomb things like that might as well happen in your life, Kakashi)
400+ chapters later, we’ve shown why the chakra felt familiar to him, because Kakashi is one of people who sensed Kurama’s chakra even before the Kyuubi incident, the incident that took his Sensei’s life.
Tumblr media
6. Break the mask
Honestly my personal favorite parallel because how neat and detailed Kishimoto made them to the point that I squealed hard when I put these side by side. This one is actually more about premonition of what would happen in later story than parallel from revealed backstory, but the scene when Naruto Kyuubi-punched Haku to break his mask,
Tumblr media
has the exact same proposition with the scene of Tobito rasengan unmasking that happen like 583 chapters later, down to the angle, body gesture, even line separation between each panel.
Tumblr media
After noticing this, I am like 99% sure that Kishimoto already planned Tobito plot-twist (and the major line of Kakashi’s past team story) on Wave arc.
7. “Who are you?”
Speaking about unmasking, there’s a nice little foreshadowing about Tobito plot twist on Wave arc. This cover is from the early chapter 16, the cover that mark the first Obito appearance on Naruto series. Obito who is one of 2 main Big Bad in War arc that happen like 600+ chapter later (I don’t count Kaguya and Black Zetsu is a background party who shamelessly took credit on the last minutes), but Obito is also the inspiration of Kakashi’s philosophy of valuing comrades, that he passed down to Team 7 on Bell Test.
Tumblr media
The said chapter also the first time Haku’s face were shown behind his mask. Haku, who is one of 2 main antagonist on Wave arc, but also the one who gave Naruto his philosophy to be strong for the sake of protecting his important people.
Tumblr media
These last two points, along with the clues that Kishimoto threw ever since the introduction of Tobi, should made it obvious that Tobito plot twist was planned since the beginning. I think people who still thought that Tobito is a retcon till this day just can’t understand how clever Kishimoto’s storytelling works.
9. Shinobi 25th rule
The damned rule that literally no one uphold except perhaps Kakashi (which is not healthy at all my man please cry more!) got mentioned first by Sakura on Wave arc.
Tumblr media
And it was talked again on Kakashi Gaiden by Kakashi, obviously. While the rule was treated like off-handed trivia on Wave arc, this no-crying rule is like, big deal on Kakashi Gaiden. They even had a chapter titled “Crybaby” to emphasis this point.
Tumblr media
The arc also shows that this 25th shinobi rule is apparently applied to all shinobis regardless of their nationality.
Tumblr media
(I don’t like this rule at all please tell me someone remove it in the end)
9. Willingly jump in front of Chidori
This point is the content of the post that inspire me, so yeah I add it for good measure, hehe. But seriously, Kishimoto made a very nice (not for Kakashi) parallel between the shocking way (pun not intended) of Haku’s death by throwing himself in front of Kakashi’s chidori,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s so similar with the scene of Rin’s death, along with their last word being the name of someone they loved (platonically or romantically) and willing to die for.
Tumblr media
There’s also notable change of Kakashi’s attitude on the battle after Haku’s death, from being not really invested to the fight apart from his job and protecting his students,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
to take the fight personally and quite possessively, along with gentle treatment toward the deceased Haku.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Haku’s death by his Chidori possibly reminded Kakashi of the devastation that he felt when Rin committed suicide on his hand. Both scenes also has panels focused on Kakashi’s bloodied hand after he did the deed unwillingly.
Tumblr media
10.”Do you really mean that?”
After Haku’s corpse got kicked by Gato, Zabuza who was still deep in shinobi mentality nonchalantly acted as if he valued Haku only for the service that the boy could provide to him.
Tumblr media
Just like Kakashi in Kakashi Gaiden diminished Rin’s earnest help as “her job”.
Tumblr media
Hearing that, Naruto and Obito understandably pissed off and yelled about how both Rin and Haku cared for Kakashi and Obito with their whole hearts, beyond their role as allied shinobi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Facing those cold words, Naruto also tried to ensure whether Zabuza truly meant for the cruel things he said.
Tumblr media
And Obito did the same to Kakashi 100+ chapters later.
Tumblr media
This segment also got a nice callback on War arc like 500+ chapters later, but this time from Naruto to Obito.
Tumblr media
Yum, me love some parallel, preferably with hundreds of chapter gaps. Just like @mabledonut said, I want to know how Kishimoto thought on how he crafted his story with such big chapter gaps and callbacks because it’s just fantastic.
Tl ; dr = I really wanna see Wave arc from Kakashi’s point of view. Because I can totally see after Team 7 came back to Konoha, Kakashi laid down on his shuriken bed, contemplation how the hell after he finally passed a team and accepted them as his responsibility, the first combative mission that they had turned into A rank mission that push the majority of his button trauma. Then after Kakashi realized that he was stuck with them for the next years and beyond, he was like,
Tumblr media
(unbeknownst to him, Team 7 shenanigans is the world’s way to give him a giant therapy program)

Note
I completely spaced it when you made that Mordred and daegal post the other day but if you go to @flukenatouch blog and search daegal in the search thingy, Naomi and @the-once-and-future-gay (since deactivated) pretty much coined the ship name "Morgal" (and geon but that's something for another day) for Daegal and Mordred and Naomi has some stuff on there... And then if you go over to @panharmonium blog also and do the same they were a big daegal person too with a lot of once and future gay's stuff is reblogged (they also created an AU together with Daegal, will & Merlin. I never checked it out but it might be something you like) there were other too @zoingfandom-moved / @zoingfandom has some Mordred and Daegal and Kara stuff that we used to talk about (they've since left Tumblr but they're still active on Ao3) @rosereturns has some stuff too shipping Daegal & Merlin, if that's your thing and there's some others there too but I never ventured to that part of the fandom. @caffeinatedflumadiddlebutmerlin had some daegal (& Mordred too I believe but again I never read their works) things also which they removed all they're works but the fandom archived them Here There's some other wonderful blogs but honestly I can't think of anymore right now but it all happened mostly around 2020-2021 as the fandom was really thriving, so most of the stuff you'll be able to find around then, hopes this helps some (if not just ignore me 😅) 😊🌸
Thank youu, I'm definitely gonna look into this!! <33
