1. a song they love to dance to: mamma mia by abba (mamma mia is her favorite musical, and she would listen to the soundtrack on repeat so much as a girl that her parents nearly destroyed her cd)

2. the meaning of their middle name: well-born, noble (gene; her mother had a thing for golden age hollywood actresses, so she and skye’s middle names are after gene tierney and marlene dietrich)

3. their favorite mythical/fantasy animal/figure: allison adores mermaids (it started after watching the little mermaid for the first time; she wanted to be ariel so badly that she perfected her hair flip when she’s breaking out of the water)

4. salty or sweet snacks? which kind do they like best?: you’d think sweet since she’s a baker, but allison actually prefers salty snacks. you can usually see her snacking on pretzels because she loves how they can go with most things (she loves dipping them in hummus)

5. what they like to do during the winter time: winter is when she goes absolutely CRAZY with the baking; she’s baking all sorts of christmas cookies from traditional shortbread to gingerbread. besides the baking, one of her favorite winter activities is to go ice skating, and then sit in front of a fire afterwards with a cup of hot chocolate

Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022)

Thirty years after their popular television show ended, chipmunks Chip and Dale live very different lives. When a cast member from the original series mysteriously disappears, the pair must reunite to save their friend.

JayBell: I’ve never seen any Chip and Dale cartoon, so I had zero expectations for this movie. Maybe because of that, I enjoyed this movie far more than I thought I would.

I thought it was a unique and creative idea for Disney to mix all of the different animation styles with live action, and you can tell they had some fun with it. I can also appreciate the detail and care that went into the worldbuilding, such as reworking popular media to include cartoon characters. I enjoyed the stroll into Uncanny Valley, although the Cats movie reference traumatized me. This is a movie made up of easter eggs, cameos, and references to other Disney works, so if you’re caught up on your Disney knowledge, makes for an entertaining movie.

It was also a very self-aware movie, and this mostly shows in the villain’s motives. I don’t know who I expected to be the villain, but Sweet Pete wouldn’t have made the list.

The central conflict of the movie centered on the fractured relationship between Chip and Dale, which had a good progression throughout the movie. Really it was a story of friendship and forgiveness.

The one noticeable con for me was the acting of the cop (Ellie) that was helping Chip and Dale. I recognize that it’s difficult to act when you’re in scenes with animated characters, but I still thought it could use some improvement.

Highlights: Ugly Sonic finally making it to the “big” screen, Seth Rogan inception, and Dale as a Chippendales dancer.

Rating: 6.75/10 cats 🐈‍  

Anzie: At first like a year ago when I heard they were remaking Chip and Dale with John Mulaney and Andy Samberg, I was kinda like “Whoopie, whatever its Chip and Dale .” But than last week as I started seeing the commercials for it being released Friday, I for some reason NOW was delighted by the thought of Andy Samberg and John Mulaney as chipmunks.

Would I say best Disney movie ever?? No but was enjoyable and funny? Definitely. The movie relies a lot on the audience picking up on things through the movie, such as all of Seth Rogan’s past characters (CGI or animated) interacting with his current one- or that 20 years later Dale has become a stripper?!? Because we all know that the only thing that comes to anyone’s mind when the Rescue Rangers Chip and Dale- who are CHIPMUNKS- is the male strippers?!? Right?? - but again they rely on the audience connecting the pieces, so any younger watchers probably wouldn’t catch that.

The animation/ live action mix is really cool but takes getting use to- a lot of the way the characters are design is weird and uncomfortable, especially the use of characters that exhibit uncanny valley and the redrawn Disney characters. Notable mentions are old Peter Pan and Capt. Putty. Capt. Putty scarred me. Side note- I think it’s funny, how Disney is known for guarding their characters and licensing better than a State Secret- but they used ugly Sonic and other characters they don’t own, redrew their own characters, and had a whole plot about bootlegging their movies and characters? Kindaaaaaaa odd.

Also, I get it’s better for plot- but Chip and Dale aren’t brothers in this??? Like that’s the one thing I knew for sure- It’s been true since the DAWN of TIME. How could you split up the brothers??

Overall, the movie does its job entertaining and all of the tiny details are amazingly intricate, you could probably spend hours decoding every scene and the references to other pop culture stuff.

Rating: 6/10 Chipmunks 🐿
