Best Worst: Ava Coleman (Abbott Elementary) 

“I have to photoshop Janine out of this but…This is a cute picture though.” -Ava

And that is exactly what Ava did as we saw that picture on her desk with Janine photoshopped out of it. And really. Is that enough to prove that Ava is The Best Worst of 2023.

How did Ava make it to another Best List? By just being the worst. What isn’t she the worst at? Ava is the worst principal. She is the worst person. Worst…I don’t know. She is just really good at being bad on multiple fronts. 

And trust me. I have seen bad principals and somehow Ava can encompass the worst part of all of the principals that I have worked with and then multiply them by ten. Constantly throwing Janine under the bus,teaching kids how to scam various misuse of school resources, and running her pyramid schemes from the school…I am pretty sure the writers asked what bad things can be done at a school that isn’t murder.

And the best part is that she is still successful and does somewhat good in the end. She defends her teachers such as Jacob from parents, in her own weird way supports Janine and does what she can to make sure the school is successful. She isn’t the best at her job but she does her job using every worst and good thing she can think of. Even if it means stealing some of Janine’s ideas. 

Honorable Mention: Buggy (One Piece Live Action) - He is just a really bad guy. I mean he held a town hostage and when he was useful, he turn tail and run.

I watched Wolf(2021) and it was FUCKING BORING! Like holy shit it took me three different sittings to get through and the last I though I had more than 2 minutes left but the remainder of the timer on the progress bar is all credits. The main character, Jacob, is a wolf who constantly has no shirt on like did they write this during the Twilight craze and it only got green-lit years later? Spoilers below, this movie has an R rating so read at your own risk it has lots of triggering stuff in it like abuse, there's nudity, ect...

It just… ends. There's like no real conclusion either satisfying, bittersweet, or downer ending. :[ Jacob just… escapes with the help of the cat girl. And the evil institution where all the animal kids are being held is just left there? Like the production ran out of money and they had to literally stop filming right at the big escape scene. The abusive guy who runs the place never even gets into a fight with our main wolf character even though he's supposed to be "vicious" at this point in the film. Jacob pounced on and growled at a staff member once. Which ALSO is a stupid as fuck scene. Jacob didn't even bite him, slap him, claw at him, or anything. Just growled. And he did this because the youngest of the animal kids, a little duck boy who was like?? maybe 10, was being pushed around by said staff member. Either decide if our "hero" is going to "attack" staff and defend a kid or if he want's to eat the other animal people. Because both happened in that scene. Jacob attacks the staff member and THEN stares at the duck kid like he's lunch? Pick a tone. On the subject of tone this whole film reeks "I wanted to write a kinky film but I only heard of petplay once online and never researched it." vibes. But they couldn't get their sexy film funded so they had to write a half-assed story so a studio would pick it up. -_- But lets talk about the side characters. The other animal kids are kinda great. Rufus was pretty good. Macaw girl whose name I don't remember? Her only shtick is mimicking what the staff members say to her but it's so bitchy and I like it. The "zookeeper" villain's actor does make you hate him with his performance so yay? Also, whoever is doing the whinnying for horse girl is pretty great at it. xD If it's the actress I hope they hired her because she can whinny as well as act. If Jacob was just supposed to be a reactive blank slate and we're supposed to learn about the others through him that would have been better but we don't spend a lot of time getting to know them. The sad thing is there are elements in this movie that seem okay and may have been great if someone took the time to expand on it. They were going somewhere with the secondary character, the cat girI's back story and then the film ends. We learn zip about her. It started off okay and then just had this downward spiral into MEH. I really didn't care about what happened to Jacob because he wasn't a character, he was barely a trope. DX And just exactly how old is the character supposed to be? They sorta treat him like he's a teen but his actor is really not convincing even as a someone in their early20's. *checks actor's age* and it's because he's thirty. My friend made a joke about the 30-year-old actors playing kids when I showed her the trailer but I didn't expect her to be right. There's also this scene early on in the film where Jacob sneaks out of his room at night and starts wandering around the place. He winds up in the kitchen with Cat Girl. At some point they have to hide because of the noise they are making and they choose to hunker down behind this stainless steel counter with part of the kitchen visible. Someone photoshop a Jurassic Park raptor in a screenshot because that's all I could think of. Overall if you've got time to kill I guess this movie would be fun to watch as something to make fun of in a group but watching it by myself was not something I want to do again.

And to be fair, I accidentally learned that Defending Jacob is a book, but now I'm not watching the show until I read the book (which will be a million years from now because I have so many assignments and papers to write. Also have you notice how you most want to work on your fic when you definitely have to write your paper?).

And I've been meaning to tell you (everytime I start a sentence in a normal way but Taylor Swift has used it in her lyrics my mind just goes I think your house is haunted...) that your Santa hat profile pic is very cool!

And degrees were made in hell, I'm sure of it. But I like coming to uni for the vibes and to meet with friends (it's honestly become a social gatherings spot for me by now).

Also - I like reading smut over my cereal. At least I'm starting my day with spiciness that's not due to my workload at uni.

Aaaand, I just might go home some day this week and finally plug in my graphic tablet - I havent touched that thing in so long. Also - totally get what you're saying about photoshop. I have a course on photoshop and it's not looking too well. That's why I plan on recreating it in the app I use for my drawings - I can't have another breakdown over photoshop.

no because tell me why the second I have a paper that's worth 20% of my grade I'm like "actually I'm not going to do that, I'm gonna go write a 7000 word fic about Bob"

i know that's crazy! first of all we are not in 2008 with this whole idea of team this and team that like in edward & jacob from twilight lolll. we have people fighting in team real and team pr, it's very juvenile. both team are crazy as helllll🥴. each act like they are better than the other😒. people from the outside can see THEY ARE THE 2 SIDE OF THE SAME COIN. we got "team pr" who has lost their damn mind in the madness of : breakup is coming(please get real, they are MARRIED), everything is fake and pr, she is never in the usa, the pictures are all photoshop. team pr the list of lies and delusions they try to make people believe is extremely long and disturbing. on the opposite side there is team real and they have weird and disturbing behavior as well : tracking his friends and family social media pages, kissing the ground ab walks on like she is god, fighting tooth and nails to defend her like if they dont they will die. let's not forget this whole reverse psychology they try to spin "if you don't love ab you are mysoginist and jealous". what is wrong with thoses people trying to force/guilt trip others to love someone they don't even care about and there has been a lot of bullying from them that get swept under the rug and other ugly action on their part. team real list misbehavior and celebrity spouse worshipping syndrom is just as much crazy and long! anyway let's just say a lot of blogs had to be block because the crazy theories and the major booty eating of chris partner is completely out of control and making his tag very shitty.

I completely agree. The way everyone has become PR / body language / paparazzi experts overnight honestly has me chuckling. If you caught a candid pic of me and my husband you'd think we're headed for divorce because I have resting bitch face and I walk faster than him lmao. But god forbid Chris and Alba aren't smiling ear to ear and wearing T shirts with their marriage certificate printed on them in every picture!!!!

But some folks are SO obsessed that it's honestly concerning. I've never once stalked the internet presence of a celebrity the way these people are and it has me wondering how they even find the time for this sort of mania. It is fanatical, obsessed behavior. So odd. This is the same way cults get made and I'm only half kidding. They can't see the forest for the trees now.

What did Jenny Nicholson do to John Boyega? Genuinely curious, it's the first time I'm hearing of this and would love to know so I can stop paying her any attention if she doesn't deserve it

Disclaimer before I get started: I’m a white woman and this topic is about racism perpetuated by white woman so please keep that in mind as you read. I’m gonna do my absolute best to echo what I’ve seen black people say about this situation and this type of covert racism but I am not black so they get final say on this topic.

This is not an easy thing to explain in it’s entirety because it happened about a year ago on Twitter and Jenny deleted a lot of Tweets after the fact because she’s a spineless coward. I’m going to do my best to remember and I’ll include any receipts I can find, which unfortunately will be limited to what people saved at the time. :(

This all started because John made a joke about Rey and Finn having sex on Twitter.

It was a harmless silly joke. And it was not about Reylo. But Reylos took it upon themselves to be personally offended and absolutely LOST it at him, calling him a misogynist, saying his statement was sexist, and sending him a slew of harassment, hate, and racism.

Now there’s a lot of hypocrisy going into this controversy because Reylos are notorious for sexualizing Rey often to disgusting degrees, like demanding the actual Star Wars movies be more explicit, saying light sabers are phallic symbols, accusing JJ Abrams of wanting Rey to stay his pure virginal Mary Sue, etc. (I’m not gonna bother providing receipts on this, just search the Reylo hashtags on Tumblr or Twitter, or check out the Twitter @ShitReylosSay). Let me make it clear that sexually explicit =/= sexist, and John’s statement was not sexist. Period. At the end of the day I think they were just looking for an excuse to attack John. Because he cannot breath without people attacking him.

Well John noticed right away it was Reylos going at him so he took the opportunity to drag Reylo.

Was he being a petty? Of course he was, but he had EVERY RIGHT TO after the endless racism he has endured from the Star Wars fandom. People are always applauding white actors like Robert Pattinson and Jacob Elordi for shitting on shows, movies, or fandoms related to their work. But when John does it suddenly he’s “unprofessional”?

John eventually started replying to some of the Tweets being sent at him.

They were all along this vein where a person was being outright hostile and vile, so yeah, he had every right to respond.

This all culminated in him picking out a bunch of hateful Tweets being thrown his way and posting this video to Instagram.

Well this triggered Reylos even more so they shifted tactics and took the whole white feminist approach that he was “attacking SHIPPING CULTURE which is majorly made up of WOMEN so he’s a MISOGYNIST”. They wrote these long essays and Twitter threads about how John was spreading harmful messages etc. But he wasn’t attacking shipping culture, he was attacking Reylo. Because it’s vile and abusive and he was no longer contractually obligated to endure it. And honestly? His tweet was mild at best. 

But please remember all this started because John made a joke that Rey and Finn ended up together. HE DID NOT START ON REYLO. THEY STARTED ON HIM. Everything that happened was reactionary on his part. We as a society refuse to let black people defend themselves and it’s fucked up and racist.

One of these pseudo-intellectuals spreading the whole “John is a misogynist and Reylo shippers are his VICTIMS uwu” narrative was none other than Jenny Nicholson.

Just so you know the “inbreds” comment was photoshopped by a white fan, not that Jenny would tell her incredibly large audience this to prevent spreading further slander about John.

A lot of people started replying to Jenny telling her why SHE as a WHITE WOMAN framing herself and other Reylos as the VICTIM of John, a BLACK MAN who did absolutely nothing to her or anyone besides not like Reylo and defend himself against online harassment and bullying, was racist.

And you know what she did? She blocked them all.

And to this day she continues to block anyone who brings it up because she’s a spineless coward who can’t be bothered to own up to her racist slip-ups.

Some of these people were being mean, but most were not. Some were nicer than she deserved. She still blocked them. She didn’t want to see any form of criticism (constructive or not) sent her way.

She even had the nerve to go at John AGAIN during the BLM protests after George Floyd was murdered because she has no fucking clue how to read a room. This was her bringing back her distasteful dislike of John DURING THE BLM MOVEMENT when John made that emotional speech in London’s Hyde Park. This was not the time or place but she can’t seem to help herself.

As a white woman with respect, authority, and a large audience, who viewed as an “intellect” on online spaces so her opinion is taken more seriously thank others, the things she says matter and impact a large group of people. She used her whiteness and her woman-ness to frame herself and other white women as John’s victim when she was not, because she knew it would be easy and she would get away with it. And she did and she has. As one person in the screencaps above tweeted so gracefully, she “participated in the fandom dogpile of John” when he had done nothing wrong except exist and have opinions.

Jenny is your classic example of a performative ally and she accidently showed her true colors. I no longer trust any white female video essayist who ship Reylo and are friends with Jenny because you know they all silently agree with what she was stupid enough to say out loud. This means Lindsay Ellis as well.

I believe the reason she refuses to acknowledge this situation is because she would be forced to either apologize or confess she still stands by what she said. And based off her vague-tweeting the situation as recent as June of 2020 I feel safe saying she still believes she was in the right.

The receipts I offered are only a small part of a much larger jumbled mess. I didn’t include everything there was but even this small amount is pretty damning.

I feel like Chris Evans could be a great actor but maybe he just needs better direction? I don’t know but I feel like with the right actors, the right director, the right movies, he could be good. I don’t know how to explain it but that’s my two cents.

Yeah personally, I disagree tbh. Bong Joon-ho who directed Parasite and other great movies like The Host and Mother was who directed Snowpiercer, and Defending Jacob was supposed to be like his “look-I’m-a-serious-actor-with-range” show, I just don’t think he has the range necessary. but with something like that, I want to see this level of commitment:

so if I’m watching a show about a man who will do anything it takes to protect his son from a murder wrap, I need more, I need this

Hey, bugs!

Let me start by saying that it's totally fine to feel better because of my... interesting and questionable choices and about me having no idea what I'm doing.

I mean there's something so calming in comradeship especially when it comes to being confused.

And just wanted to tell you - I'm probably watching the news with more emotion compared to my expression when I'm reading smut (then again, when I'm reading fluff, I get all flustered, and I just-)

About the Defending Jacob question - I'm one of those super annoying people that kind of insists on reading the book first, so even though I've read a ton of fanfics about the show, I haven't watched it yet (but hopefully, I'll get around reading the book soon and then watching the show).

And in my country, a degree also doesn't matter much - except if you want any sort of a public job, but I prefer working in the private sector, so yeah. That's what I remind myself of every time while I freak out - that I don't actually need a degree and that my brother found a great job without even having one (even though he got his last year).

And please, please, please have Peach recreate the iconic painting! It'd be sooooo gooood! Actually, I might try recreating it with Jake, Bradley and Mickey on my graphic tablet and might send it to you, but I'm not promising anything.
