zuko x waterbender reader in which someone from team avatar walks in on them kissing?
i feel like it’d be funny idk lol 😂
a/n: i love this trope it’s so funny. also it’s like subtly mentioned reader is a water bender since i didn’t wanna just shove it in there awkwardly. anyway hope you enjoy!
summary: a private moment between you and your boyfriend is interrupted by your unsuspecting friends
Tumblr media
“Are you sure no one saw you come in here?”
“Yes, I’m sure,” Zuko says with a huff after closing the flaps of your tent. “You know, I’m starting to think you’re embarrassed to be seen with me.”
“You know that’s not true,” you argue with a frown. “I just enjoy having some privacy. I know those guys are going to make a big deal about us being together, and I just want to enjoy our relationship without having to deal with any prying eyes.”
“I know,” he admits with a sigh. “I’m just tired of sneaking around. Do you know how difficult it is not to kiss you or check on you after a fight with my sister? It’s torture.”
“It’s just until the war is over. There’s a lot at stake right now, and it would be a weird time to come clean. It’ll be over before you know it.”
“I hope you’re right,” Zuko murmurs with a frown, one that immediately melts away at the feel of your arms wrapping around his midsection. It’s hard to be upset when you’re smiling up at him with the purest look of adoration in your eyes. Despite everything, all of his flaws and mistakes and cruelty, you love him, and it fuels the warmth inside of his heart knowing he has someone like you. Maybe he would have joined the Avatar and his friends sooner if he knew it would lead him to you.
“At least we’re finally alone,” he notes with a faint smile before leaning down to press his lips against your own in a long awaited kiss. He hasn’t been able to give or receive affection all day, and it isn’t until now with your chest pressed against his own that he’s finally able to truly feel relaxed.
Unfortunately, you’re both too engrossed in each other to notice the rustling of your tent flaps as Sokka and Toph let themselves in without a second thought.
“Hey, y/n, Toph and I are gonna head into town, do you want to- oh, gross!” He cries after catching Zuko and yourself mid lip lock.
You both jump at the intrusion, knocking your head together on accident and groaning in unison at the impact.
“Sokka!” You cry out in embarrassment. “Monkey feathers, don’t you knock?!”
“It’s a tent! There is no knocking!” He yells back defensively, equally as upset as you are. “I can’t believe you guys were kissing!”
“We weren’t kissing,” Zuko argues, his face red with embarrassment. “We were… hugging… with our… mouths?”
“Oh, spirits,” you groan, your palm hitting your forehead in embarrassment at Zuko’s horrible attempt at lying. For a Prince, he has a terrible way with words. You’d think all that time spent with his Uncle would make his vocabulary more eloquent.
“If Toph could see she’d be very upset right now!” Sokka scolds, but the girl beside him simply shrugs.
“Actually, this works out great for me. Katara owes me five gold pieces now,” she says with a grin.
“You guys knew they were dating and didn’t tell me?!” The water tribe boy says in offense.
“I had a hunch, but Katara disagreed, so we made a bet.”
“Enough already! This is mortifying enough as it is,” you groan impatiently. “Sokka, we’ll talk about this later. For now, I need both of you out!”
After getting the two to leave the tent, you shut it closed with an irritated sigh. You’re absolutely humiliated, and you don’t think you can show your face to your friends ever again.
“So much for keeping it a secret,” the fire bender mutters.
“You,” you say with an accusatory finger pointed at the Prince, “need to learn how to lie better.”
“I know,” he admits meekly, awkwardly scratching the back of his neck. Sighing, you open your water pouch and tend to the growing bump on his head from your previous collision. You can’t stay mad at him when he looks so flustered and sweet, so instead you merely throw your arms around his neck and pull him back in for another kiss.
You can focus on coming clean later. For now, you just want to enjoy your moment of peace with the boy you love.

Freezer Burn
Prince Zuko x Fem Reader Smut
Summary: Tensions are running high which causes a argument between Zuko and yourself. He bruises the confidence you have in your hunting abilities and reaffirms your fear of being a burden. Wanting to prove otherwise, you go out in the cold to hunt. Feeling guilty about how he treated you, he goes out to find you. The two of you find some innovative ways to keep warm.
Word Count: 2.0k+
<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3
Everyone was having a rough day of travel, even Appa was reaching his limit. It was freezing and the optimism of finding a warm place to sleep was fading in everyone. Anng found a small cave that would work for the night. It was on a small mountain and overlooked an even smaller village. Zuko started making a fire while Katara and yourself set up the tents. Yang and Sokka were already asleep, curled into Appa’s thick fur. You were hungry but so was everyone else.
“Are we going to be able to hunt for food soon? Or get some water?” you asked.
“We could but I don’t think the cold would allow us to be out there for long. Not to mention there wouldn’t be any animals out, it's just too cold,” she said.
“Not to mention you’d barely come home with anything in good weather,” Zuko grumbled, poking at the fire. He’d been making cracks at you all day, at first you could ignore him. Excusing his behavior on fatigue and hunger pains, but now you were taking it personally.
“You’re not a prince among us, so stop acting like it” you say in hopes of lowering his ego.
“I am the best fighter and hunter, the past two battles you’ve only slowed us down. Maybe if we had a successful kill earlier we wouldn’t be hungry now,” he said.
“Zuko don’t say that!” Katara snapped.
All day you’d been beating yourself up over that mistake. Deep down you knew the rest of the group was irritated about you costing them the meal earlier. It just reaffirmed your insecurity. Grabbing your bow and arrows, you start putting your clothes back on while preparing for a hunt.
“We’re all really tired and yes we may be hungry but you’re not the sole reason for that. Zuko is obviously just grumpy, don’t let his outburst get to you,” she says, grabbing your arm.
Deep down you wanted to listen and calm down, rest for a while. Your pride however wouldn’t allow you to stop yourself. As you left, you could hear Katara yelling at Zuko to apologize. The feeling of dread bubbled in your stomach, you didn’t want to make anyone worry but your ego was clouding your judgment. Everyone in the group had their own ways of helping and at times you did feel like a burden. Extra weight that Appa had to carry on his back. It wasn’t that you were mad about what Zuko said, you were more frustrated that it was true. At this point it felt like you’d been walking for hours. The snow was coming down hard, without any signs of lightning. Not eating and your lack of rest was starting to get to you. Your stomach felt like it was eating away at itself. Eyes burning and muscles starting to stiffen from the cold penetrating your clothes. You tried not to go too far, knowing you couldn’t carry an animal in the cold that far. But you had to get some distance between you and the cave in order to find any wild game. Finally spotting a young Moose Lion, looking lost and confused, you almost hesitated when readying your bow. After successfully hitting the animal, your body floods with adrenaline. This quickly fades as you realize you’ll have to drag the thing home. Seemingly underestimating the size which caused a struggle when walking back. Even though it was freezing, you’d broken into a sweat. Starting to feel lightheaded, you took a moment to catch your breath.
Katara was pacing at the entrance of the cave, anxious for your arrival. He wouldn’t admit it, but Zuko was feeling his own regret about how he’d spoken to you. He didn’t mean to let his anger get the best of him, it just sort of happened.
“I think I should go out to look for her, she could be freezing to death,” she said, starting to get dressed.
“You can’t, it’s a full blown blizzard,” Zuko said, standing up.
“Well we can’t just leave her to die out there!” Katara snaps, upset that he would even suggest stopping her from leaving.
“I know, but only a fire bender would have the resources to survive such severe weather. I’ll go,” he said, making the fire sustainable for the time he’d be gone for.
“Just be careful,” Katara said as he walked into the cold.
Once he felt just how bad it was outside, his guilt intensified. It wasn’t true what he said about you being a burden. He was just feeling insecure about his own place in the group. Simply projecting his inner turmoil onto you. Knowing it pushed you this far was getting to him. He took a deep breath and started following the faint track you left. Even though a fresh layer of snow was now covering the foot prints, it was still enough to follow. At times Zuko would use his fire for warmth and light. Getting desperate, he began calling your name out. Fatigue was starting to affect him as well. He finally thought he saw you, laying against the animal. He assumed you were just pulling the arrow out but when he got closer he noticed you were passed out. He immediately started assessing you, looking around knowing he had to find shelter that was closer than the rest of the group. Using his fire, he melts a coating of snow and ice, covering a small cave. The animal luckily kept you warm while he wasn’t there but he was still worried about your fingers. They had practically no color and your lips were tinted blue. Once he got you inside the cave, next to the fire he created, he brought the animal in. Impressed that you shot it right through the chest. Taking off his outer layers and bundling you up in them. He was relieved to see the color coming back to your fingertips and cheeks. Checking every once in a while to make sure you were getting too close and burning yourself.
The two of you wouldn’t be able to make the trip back any time soon, so Zuko began skinning and sectioning off the meat. Washing his hands with melted snow he was slowly collecting. As he roasted the meat, he couldn’t help but admire your beauty. Your eyelashes were long and the light from the fire was illuminating your face. Sleeping with your lips slightly parted, hair completely unraveled from the tight bun it once was in. After a couple hours, you slowly began to come too. Sitting up rubbing your eyes, Zuko rushes over to you.
“Are you okay?” he asks, brushing the hair out of your face. He grabbed a bowl of water, bringing it to your lips,
“Sit closer to the fire,” he said, helping you sit up fully. Still weak, you were wobbling while you sat criss-crossed. Still shivering a bit because your back was cold, not able to feel the heat from the fire. Zuko notices this and comes to sit behind you, stabilizing and warming you up. He was using a stick to roast the meat he’d prepared from the animal. It smelt really good, and was the only reason you were keeping your eyes open. He brought the stick to your lips but you were too weak to rip a piece off. Trying to bite a small chunk but not having the strength to actually get a bite. He laughs at your attempt and rips a small piece off, bringing it to your mouth. He repeated this a couple times, giving you sips of water in between. Letting you digest, he rests his chin on top of your head and keeps cooking. After eating, you could feel yourself gaining strength and energy. Becoming more aware of your surroundings.
“What happened?” you asked, looking around and noticing it was only you and Zuko.
“You went out to hunt and passed out. I came looking for you but the storm was too powerful to travel back to camp with you and the kill. So we're camping here for the night,” he explained, adding more wood to the fire.
That was when you slowly started putting the pieces of your memory back together. You were grateful to be sheltered now, definitely counting your blessings. Noticing that Zuko wasn’t wearing a shirt, you took off what he gave you. He accepted it but didn’t put it on right away, instead just laying it on his neck like a scarf.
“I’m sorry for egging you on like that, and for not stopping you from leaving,” he said, moving his chin from your head to your collarbone.
“It was my decision, I knew it wasn’t a good idea. It was my stubbornness that put both of us at risk,” you said.
“I like that you're stubborn, that you don’t listen to people who underestimate you,” he said.
“I thought you hated me,” you chuckle.
“I know that’s what I show but it couldn’t be further than the truth,” he spoke softly.
“Oh yeah? Why’s that?” you asked, moving your back closer against his chest.
“As mean as I’ve been, you always are so nice and understanding. Even when I don’t deserve it,” he said.
“Zuko you always deserve it, you’re easy to love,” you say, turning to face him.
His face was bright red and for the first time you were seeing his vulnerability. Just slightly, like he didn’t want to give too much away. You move his hair out of the way and look at his scar. Although he looked a little embarrassed, he tilted his head so you could get a full look. Without thinking, you started kissing the skin around his eye. He ended up catching your lips with his. Immediately you move so that you’re straddling his lap. His back was pressed against the wall of the cave, your back was facing the fire. Running your fingers through his hair, admiring how soft the strands were. He moaned into your mouth as you pulled and tugged. Rocking your hips against crotch, your stomach tightening after feeling him get hard. You take in a sharp intake of breath and narrow down, focusing on rubbing against his shaft. Zuko’s hips began to buck involuntarily, which led to his taking his pants off. You follow his lead and do the same, also removing your top. Using his hands to rock your hips against his. Partly because he liked spreading your wetness along himself but also enjoying watching your chest bounce. He takes one of your nipples into his mouth, you let out a strangled moan. The pleasure was so intense the rocking of your hips was becoming erratic. Seeing you react so intensely to his touch made him go somewhat feral.
Flipping you over so your back is against the cold ground. He was feverishly kissing your neck and chest, at times making you giggle. He smiled down at you, taking in how beautiful your eyes were in the soft glow of the fire. Your entire body felt like it was burning down to your core. Pulling your knees to your chest, taking the hint he sat up. He was now towering above you, his member laying on your front. Leaking pre-cum onto your lower stomach. He grabs himself, slapping his dick on your pussy. Enjoying the moans and whines coming from your mouth every time he rubbed his tip against your clit. He enjoyed watching you beneath him, desperate for his touch. A relief only he could provide you. Unable to take any more foreplay, he presses into you. Muttering curses as he is overwhelmed by your heat. How tight you felt around him and your moans matching up with his movement made him feel overstimulated. Like he couldn’t slow his heart rate down. Watching as your tits bounced with every thrust, how braindead you were from pleasure. He presses his hands down on your stomach so he could feel this cock pounding in and out of you. The sudden pressure was enough to send you over the edge. Pulling Zuko down and raking your nails down his back,
“Fuck!” he said it loud, right in your ear.
His thrusts were unrelenting as he chased his orgasm. Groaning and moaning into your shoulder as he finally came. Rutting into you as he came inside you, pressing himself as close as he could be to you. Petting his hair and whispering encouraging things into his hair. He laid down beside you, pulling you into his chest before covering the two of you with a woven quilt. Giving the fire one last hit before drifting off to sleep with you.

Summary: If there was one person you hated the most it was Commander Zhao. When Zhao kills the moon spirit, it takes a drastic toll on you. Being on the brink of dying in the arms of the fire prince. [ part 1 & part 3 & part 4 ]
Tumblr media
You felt the ominous atmosphere, the moment he stepped foot on the ship. A certain chill catching your bones. It wasn’t that chilly tonight, but you still shivered. The ominous approach of his footsteps. Heavy and hard on the ship’s deck. The ship had gone silent. Holding in a breath. All of the soldiers lined up. At the very end Zuko with you by his side. Iroh a bit behind Zuko’s right shoulder. You took a deep breath when he came in vision. Standing across on the other end.
A thick smirk on his face. His walk sturdy and a bit too much air. He never gave the soldiers any of his contact. His gaze was fixated on the prince and you. You let your gaze briefly shoot over to Zuko. His posture firm as you saw him brace himself. His chest slightly puffing up as he kept his hands behind his back. His expression emotionless. Turning your gaze back to the front, he was almost near.
He might have been a fire bender, but he gave you the chills. He came to a stop before Zuko and you. – “My prince.” – he addressed with a small bow, one hand on his chest. His gaze then shifted to you. – “Water princess.” – he spoke, making you almost roll your eyes at him. The way he showed it made it seem like he had little respect for you.
“Commander Zhao.” – Zuko spoke drawing his attention back to him. – “You will the address the princess formally.” – he insisted upon. Zhao forced his mouth to smile. – “Princess Y/n.” – he said bowing his head just a bit. – “Commander Zhao.”  - you said bowing, hands holding your elbows inside your sleeves. A moment of silence fell, making you glance over at Zuko. Iroh cleared his throat. – “Shall we head inside Commander Zhao?” – Iroh offered, gesturing at the cabin.
Iroh took the lead, guiding Zhao inside. Zuko and you behind him. Zuko paused allowing you to enter first. You gave him a smile, showing him your gratitude. Zuko moved behind you, following you inside the cabin. You had come a long way since Kyoshi Island, but you weren’t fully there. Zuko’s walls had crumbled just a bit around you. Just enough to appreciate your presence more.
You didn’t expect him to cling onto you like dew to a flower. That he would be a totally different man or suddenly declare his love for you, if he even had that. No it was more an understanding. A common agreement on both parties. Nothing was going to chance this union.
Iroh and Zhao were already in the quarter when you walked in with Zuko. Zuko came standing by the map on the table. You went to Iroh, standing beside him. – “What news.” – Zuko started looking firmly at the map. Zhao cleared his throat. – “Perhaps the princess should leave the room.” – Zhao stated looking behind Zuko to you. Zuko lifted his head up, bringing his fingers closer to his palm on the table. – “The princess stays!” – he declared with a glare.
“My prince.” – Zhao started, his expression bitter like swallowing a sour apple down. – “All this talk of war, might not be something for a girl to attend.” -  Zhao let out, clearing wanting you out of the room. – “Y/n stays!” – Zuko made clear, slamming his fist against the table. – “I have no secrets for her.” – he finished looking angered at Zhao. – “Is that so?” – Zhao spoke a hint of surprise in his voice. Perhaps some mockery too.
“Forgive me my prince, but I do not believe your princess would be an asset to the room.” – Zhao slipped out, looking rather foul at you. Zuko clenched his hand, getting frustrated with him. – “She stays!” – he outed loud.
It wasn’t hard to read the room. Commander Zhao disliked you for one reason only. The reason you were a water tribe girl. If you were a girl from the fire nation, he might have belittled you too, but with less grudge. You sighed soft, getting in motion. – “I’ll leave since you are insisting.” – you said making Zuko turn around to you. – “But…” – he started. He had been keeping his foot down, insisting on your presence in the room. So hearing you give up, confused him.
“I know when I am unwanted.” – you replied loud enough for Zhao to hear. Stepping up to Zuko, you wanted a private moment with him. – “Be firm.” – you whispered to him. Letting your gaze go from Zuko with admiration to Zhao with anger. Zuko swayed his head a bit to the side, moving his hand to yours.
“Stay…” – he whispered almost breathlessly when you slipped through his fingers, already leaving the room. Zuko’s gaze met up with Iroh. Commander Zhao to his back. Iroh showed Zuko to be strong, to not show emotion with a simple expression. Zuko took a deep breath before turning back to Zhao. – “Now let’s talk.” – he said firm, pressing his palms on the table.
You were on deck, hand under your chin as you let the water from the ocean move up and down with your hand. A stream of water getting stretched out from the ocean and back down. Just mindless bending to pass the time. Commander Zhao felt like a bad omen to you. You didn’t care much for the little respect he had towards you. You did care how he could subtly belittle Zuko.
Acting as if he was higher in rank and Zuko but a foot soldier. A part of you was glad you weren’t in that room with him. You hated looking at his stupid face. On the other hand, you wanted to be in that room to make sure he wouldn’t make Zuko a fool. Kyoshi Island made you look differently upon Zuko. With more respect as to say. It sure made the union between the two of you bond.
Something you never thought was possible. You’d always hoped Zuko would melt some walls down with you. At least enough for him to respect you and perhaps if you could dream for him to show affection in any way. Even if it meant the littlest of meanings. You wanted him to be happy with you, even though you were never his choice.
The water splashed down as you heard their voices. It made you turned around, standing up straight. Commander Zhao stomped towards the railing to leave your ship. Not seeing Iroh or Zuko near him, you rushed back inside. The door swung open as you were panting with worry. You only had to look at Zuko, knowing Zhao had gotten under his skin once more. – “What happened?” – you asked with concern, going over to Zuko.
You reached your hand out to his arm. Your fingers could touch his arm but for a second before he flipped his arm up. – “Get out!” – he shouted loud with anger. It startled you, but you staid. Zuko grunted loud, brazing. – “I was only…” – you began as he cut you off with blazing fire in the room. You felt the warmth tickle your skin. – “I don’t need your pathetic sympathy!” – Zuko answered rudely.
“Zuko!” – you shouted back getting up in his face. – “I am not Zhao!” – you grabbed him by his suit. – “Damn well remember that!” – your gaze staring coldly back at him. Your little outburst made him swallow in shock. Never had he seen you counterstrike so hard against him. You let go of him with a shove. Iroh was impressed by you, tempering Zuko’s temper so easily. Zuko blinked confused, calmed down in a matter of seconds.
Taking a deep breath, you calmed down as well. – “Don’t let Zhao get under your skin. He’s not worth it.” – you told Zuko. Zuko nodded. You wanted to leave again when Zuko grabbed for your wrist, making you stop. Startled, you looked down at his hand around your wrist. Your eyes met as Zuko looked away. His grip faltered as he let go of you.
He proceeded to do as if what he had done was of no significance. You bent through your knees as a curtsy to him before leaving the room once more. – “Don’t.” – Zuko said out loud. – “I wasn’t going to say anything.” – Iroh answered innocently. – “You were thinking it.” – Zuko added with a sigh. – “All I wish to say is don’t push her away nephew. You’ll regret it.” – Iroh replied wisely. He then bowed his head to Zuko, taking his leave. Iroh found you on the deck, asking if you wanted to join him for tea. You accepted, drinking some tea under the moonlight with him.
---------------------------------
“Remember your fire breath.” – Iroh said to Zuko. Zuko took a deep breath to show him. – “Princess Y/n.” – Iroh said making you nod determined at him. Iroh nodded back. You jumped off the railing into the water. Before your feet touched the water, it turned to ice underneath you. You whistled loud for Zuko to join you. He gave his uncle one last hug before he jumped over the railing too.
Landing hard on the ice platform, you had created. He sunk to his knees from the impact as you helped him up by his elbow. Taking a firm stand, you started swaying your hands around you. The ice platform got in motion as you bend the movement of the water. The ice platform making a way through the ice cold water to get to the Northern water tribe. Zuko had his fists up, ready to fire at anyone trying to attack. His gaze fell on you, seeing you bend the water so gracefully yet with strength.
Above your head you saw balls of fire being launched at the water tribe. Your hatred for Zhao, Admiral now, growing more.  – “There is a secret entrance underneath the water.” – Zuko let out, keeping an eye out for it. You felt the movement of the water in your bones, feeling connected to it.
“There.” – you told him bending the platform over to it. The platform came to a stop as Zuko exhaled deep, a bit of flame coming out of his mouth. You came standing by his side. – “You don’t have to do this.” – he told you. – “Together.” – you reminded him holding your hand out to him. Zuko stared at your hand, then up to your warm smile. He clasped his hand in yours without a word. Both of you jumped into the water. The cold giving you a brief shock. You let go of Zuko’s hand underwater to swim. Dive and swim closer to the entrance.
Zuko emerged first, gasping loud for air. – “Y/n?” – he said looking around. You hadn’t emerged yet as he slightly started to panic. Your head came above, taking a soft breath. – “Here.” – you said as he sighed relieved. Zuko and you swam to the edge, having found a way into the Northern water tribe. Zuko helped you out of the water.
Your eye fell upon the moon high above. – “Y/n.” – Zuko called out waiting for you to join him. – “Y/n let’s go!”  -  he ordered seeing you waste time by staring at the moon. Hesitantly you came in motion, joining his side. – “I just want the Avatar.” – Zuko said to remind you. The two of you found a way outside. In shock, you stared at the chaos. Fire everywhere. The water tribe, your kin, fighting with every might against the roaring flames.
It pained your heart to see it come to this. Zhao had lost his mind. Zuko noticed you were captivated by it. He knew your heart would be bleeding from seeing this. He returned to you, grabbing you by your wrist. – “Don’t look.” – he said pulling you away. A ball of fire clashed into an ice structure above. It made some brocks of ice crumble down. You bended them away before they could crush Zuko and you.
Zuko gave you a complimenting look before going his way. You remained outside, making sure no one would follow him. The moon caught your eye again as you felt like it was trying to say something. A warning before the storm. It made you swallow nervously, unaware of what was happening down in the sacred pond.
“Zhao!” – Iroh called out with anger. – “Whatever you do to that spirit, I will unleash on you tenfold!” – Zhao laid on the ground, holding the moon spirit under his grip. He grinned, chuckling even. With trembling cheeks, he drove the blade into the moon spirit. The moon disappeared, leaving the world in a gloomy view.
You stood outside, gasping loud as suddenly the moon was gone. Your hands felt weird as you couldn’t bend anymore. Looking at your trembling hands, you couldn’t figure out what had happened. You gasped hearing fire benders come in sight. They pointed at you, firing a blast at you. Now defenceless, you couldn’t do much. You were able to deflect one or two from moving out of the way, but the third one hit you. A blast of fire hitting you in the chest.
The pain was excruciating as it send you down. It had knocked you off balance. Getting slowly up, your side felt heavily bruised. There was another blast as you couldn’t out run it. It made you cry out, falling back into the snow. Clutching your side, it felt wet. Looking at your hand, you saw it was blooded. – “Zu…Zuko…” – you forced out, dragging yourself forwards into the snow. You had lost sight of Zuko a while ago. You remained still, hoping they would presume you were dead and move on.
Trying hard not to tremble, you waited till the sounds died out. Although it wasn’t easy in this chaos. Water benders that could bend no more, falling down. Struck by fire. Your breathing became shallow as you forced yourself up. Knees weak as they could barely hold you up. Weakened and bleeding, you shuffled forwards, pushing yourself forwards. – “Zuko…Zuko…” – you would whisper in search for him.
Zuko panted loud as he came outside. His first reaction was to look around for you. – “Y/n?” – he said suddenly noticing the moon was gone. The world turned grim. He saw water benders around him try to bend with no success. His eyes widened, knowing it must happen to you as well. – “Y/n!” – he called out, running to look for you. You found your way to a bridge, shivering as you tried to keep your eyes open.
Another person came running towards you as it made you look. They came to a sudden stop in shock. Your expression hardened. – “Zhao!” – you said bitter. Zhao stared in shock at you, till he saw how weakened you were. He straightened his posture with a chuckle. You wanted to wipe that smirk off his face. Moving your hands forwards you expected him to be hit by water. Yet nothing came.
Remembering again, you turned your hand to you, shaking with realization. Zhao laughed loud at your vulnerability. – “What’s the matter princess, can’t bend?” – Zhao mocked. – “Don’t worry.” – he said taking a stand. – “I still can.” – he finished punching fire at you. The impact made you fall back, crying in pain. You pulled yourself back up with every might of you. You weren’t going to let him win easily.
“You can’t win from me.” – he said teasingly. You took a stand with buckling knees and trembling hands. The side of your dress already stained with blood. Zhao readied himself to fire at you again, when he got interrupted by another blast of fire. – “Zhao!” – turning your head a bit, you saw Zuko come in sight. – “You took everything from me!” – he shouted bending more fire at him. Zhao got knocked back.
Zuko put all his anger into his bending, overwhelming Zhao with fire. Zhao crawled up to the side of the bridge, leaning against it. Worn out. – “Zu…Zuko…” – you said, drawing his attention to you. Zuko’s eyes widened seeing the state of you. Your knees gave in, making you collapse. Zuko caught you before your body could hit the ground. Zhao wanted to get up as he got hit by fire, the wall of the bridge, collapsing as he got blasted through it.
Iroh had a murderous look in his eye, his hands still in position. Zuko looked with concern at you. – “How… who did…” – he asked looking at the blood on your dress. He placed his hand against your cheek, to stop you from trembling. – “Y/n.” – Zuko said, his gaze soft, eyes glossy. – “Y/n.” – he repeated when you weren’t giving him much reaction.
“Y/n.” – he said more desperate as the pain reflected in his eyes. He looked down at your chest, seeing it barely move, hinting your breathing was dimming out. – “No, no no no no, Y/n!” – he called out panicking. – “Y/n!” – his eyes teary now. He panted out a breath, desperate to get a reaction out of you. – “Y/n!” – he called out again, shaking your shoulder. – “No! no!” – he cried out followed by a scream of agony. Iroh lowered his head in respect, grieving for his nephew. – “Please… Y/n please… don’t leave me yet…” – he said letting his forehead lean against yours.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry Y/n.” – he sobbed out. – “Come back to me.” – his voice cracked a bit as a tear fell on your cheek. He shakily pressed his lips onto your forehead. – “I am not done with you. You still haven’t scolded me enough.” – he said in the hopes it would break a reaction out of you. – “Please Y/n… I…I… damn it!” – he cursed out. – “You cannot make me care for you and leave me like this!” – he outed in pain.
“So you care.” – you muttered weakly with a cough. Zuko’s eyes widened, looking down at you. You slowly opened your eyes, giving him a faint smile. Zuko grabbed your cheek, forcing his lips down on you. Your eyes widened more. His kiss was tender and soft. – “Look what you made me do Y/n.” – he said with a smile through his tears.
It made you chuckle out a laugh, only to be reminded of your pain once more. – “Uncle!” – Zuko called out. Iroh came running over, helping you up. Zuko picked you up in his arms, as you were still too weak to walk. – “We need to get to the ship now!” – he ordered. His uncle nodded firm. – “I’ll clear the way.” – he said not taking his task lightly.

Arsonist's Lullabye
Prologue: All you have is your fire
Summary: Zuko’s bad day gets a bit better after an encounter with an unfamiliar face.
Pairing: zuko x fem! reader (Live Action or Animated)
A/N: I am delusional, and when I had the idea for a zuko x reader modern AU where he works in Iroh’s boba tea shop, I had to follow through with said idea. Let’s see if this goes anywhere, and feel free to leave comments or suggestions on how the fic could play out maybe :)
Word Count: 773
Disclaimer: I do not own the rights to Avatar: The Last Airbender, I am merely a nerd who hyperfixates a lot.  This is a modern AU that takes place in the avatar world. Bending still exists. Zuko and the gaang are in college in this series !!
TW!: Physical abuse, burns, Ozai in general, Zuko’s backstory is so sad.
Tumblr media
Zuko knew it was going to be a long day as soon as he opened the shop at 12pm.
Within the first two hours, he had run out of tapioca pearls, dropped a container filled with matcha on the floor (which by the way, was a pain in the ass to clean up,) and slipped on the floors he had just mopped. Perhaps he was just born unlucky. Perhaps, most people in life didn’t have to struggle the way that he was, the way that he always had. It wasn’t all bad. He was lucky enough to be here, working in his uncle’s tea shop in the Earth Kingdom, rather than in his father’s company back in the Fire Nation.
The Jasmine Dragon was beloved by many. People from all over the city came to have some of the shops' amazing teas and pastries. It wasn’t too busy, having only three people come in today.  perhaps because school at the University of Ba Sing Se hadn’t quite started up yet, outside of the students who had moved in early. The shop was particularly chilly today, but the atmosphere managed to maintain the same warm and cozy feeling, with the dim atmospheric lighting and the sage and emerald hued furniture. Zuko had a second to just relax in the stillness.
He appreciated these quiet moments the most.  The moments where he could stop worrying about the shop, and overthinking the worst things he had ever done in his life. Such as when he lashed out at his uncle, multiple times, or about the people he had bullied in high school. He was almost able to forget it all. Forget the fact that his younger sister, Azula, was still stuck in a house with his abusive father, or even forget the feeling of his father’s hand, burning the flesh of his face, leaving a scar in its wake, as well as a near complete blindness in his left eye. His demons may be restless, but boy did Zuko keep them on a tight leash.
Zuko’s reverie was broken by the sound of the door’s bell chime. He immediately snapped out of his thoughts, waiting patiently for his assistance to be needed.
“Um, excuse me,”
A girl, who seemed to be around his age, was standing right in front of him. She wore a navy blue dress with a pale blue lining and detailing around the edges. A belt of the same color was around her waist, with a brown leather cord connecting a bag onto her hip. Her black jacket was cropped to about rib length, with brown leather cords fastening it closed, as well as matching black pants and brown boots.
“This is my first time here…Is there anything that you’d recommend?” She asked politely.
There was something about the way her kind eyes twinkled in the orange lighting that made Zuko fluster. He cleared his throat before opening his mouth to talk.
“Well, Lychee juice is a customer favorite. But personally, my Uncle Iroh’s jasmine green tea is the best in Ba Sing Se.”
“The best in Ba sing Se?” She raised her eyebrows inquisitively.
“The best.” he nodded.
“I’ll take it.” She said, reaching to the tote bag slung over her shoulder. Zuko interrupted her actions with the wave of his hand.
Zuko shook his head. “Don’t worry, It’s on me.” he said, as he began punching numbers, into the register.
“Oh no! I can’t let you do that-” She protested.
He shrugged, a blush beginning to warm his cheeks.  “For a first time customer.”
“Thank you so much…” She trailed off, waiting for him to tell her his name.
“Zuko.”
“Zuko. I’ll be sure to come by again. And I fully intend on paying that time.” She said with a playful glare.
The boy smiled slightly.
“Your tea will be ready shortly.”
Zuko had Iroh bring the tea over to the girl. He wasn’t confident in his ability to steadily bring the tray of hot tea without causing more burns to cover his body. The older man made sure to give the girl a complimentary fruit tart to enjoy, but not before looking at his nephew with a teasing glint in his eyes. Zuko groaned.
“Not a word, uncle.” He said as he walked through the staff doors into the shops’ kitchen.
After about 20 minutes had passed, Iroh came into the kitchen, clutching what looked like a napkin and some paper Yuan bills.
“Zuko! The girl left this on her table after she left!”
Zuko carefully took the napkin from his uncle’s hand, reading the message.
“Thanks for the tea! - y/n.”

I’m rewatching ATLA (not the live action) and was starting to think about my next long story
it would be a zuko x fem lavabending!reader
the reader would be the daughter of a high ranking firebender and a colony earthbender
right now i’m not sure which parent should be which but they were gonna have a little love story and stuff which ends with the reader
the reader’s earthbending parent will be a secret and the reader would not be allowed to bend when she’s with her firebending parent to ensure she stays safe
blah blah stuff happens and around the time zuko gets banished she and her family would be made and yada yada
I want to make the reader a lavabender because it’s a mix of both fire and earth (would eventually learn more stuff from toph — they gonna be like sisters 🗣️)
the reader will have gone with zuko and iroh after he gets banished and stays with them till ba sing se (after zuko betrays them she will go with the gaang)
I’m not sure what type of personality she should have but I’m leaning towards something that would be like iroh — calm, collected and stuff
I’m not sure if or when I’ll start this story cuz I’m just spitballing rn

Fire Queen
Series Masterlist
Zuko x OC
Hello… Zuko Here
~
"Hello ... Zuko here, but I guess... you probably already know me, sort of. Uhhh ... so, the thing is I have a lot of firebending experience, and I'm considered to be pretty good at it."
Zori nods with a numbs up. The rehearsal going smoothly so far. "Well, you've seen me, you know, when I was attacking you." Zori cringed. "Maybe apologize for that too?" Uhhh ... yeah, I guess I should. But anyway, I'm good now."  I clench both fists and place one on my chest while the other arm is raised. This is so awkward.
"This is getting painful." Zori grits her teeth. "Why don't I go talk to them?" "No! I need to do this."
I take a deep breath and start again, "I mean, I thought I was good before, but I realize I was bad, anyway, I think it's time I joined your group and taught the Avatar firebending. I understand Truble was supposed to teach you, but... I can do it." Zori stays silent. "Well, what's your answer?" The child sits on a rock with a frown. "It's a no for me boss." I sigh defeated, "That's what I'd say, too. How am I supposed to convince these people that I'm on their side? What would Uncle do?"
Zori jumps to the ground staring to imitate Iroh. "Zuko, you have to look within yourself to save yourself from your other self. Only then will your true self, reveal itself." "What would Azula do?" Zori smirks playfully before she begins to imitate Azula. "Listen, Avatar, I can join your group, or I can do something unspeakably horrible to you and your friends. Your choice." I laugh lightly. "I'm glad I packed some comedic humor along."  Zori smiles, "I'm glad I came along too. I'm glad you chose the right way." I look away from her with a sheepish smile. "It's what Truble would have wanted. I regret not being there when she was hit. I think about her every day."
~
Aang springs excitedly, "Okay, we can do that while I show you the giant Pai Sho table! Oh, you're going to love the all-day echo chamber!" Toph furrows her brows, "I think it will have to wait." Toph points behind herself, Team Avatar looking at her quizzically. Appa moves out of the way to reveal a shadow, it is revealed to belong to Zuko. They look at him with shocked expressions, which subsequently turn into anger.
Zuko waves, "Hello. Zuko here." "AND ZORI!" The 10-year-old jumps off his back. "Zori!" The team chants with happiness. Katara hugs the child. "Where have you been? Truble..." Katara glanced at Zuko, but he avoided her gaze. "She wouldn't want you to run off like that, Zori."
Zori looked around the group, noticing the missing member. Her worry grew for Truble. Knowing it wasn't the appropriate time to reveal the truth of her death or rather nondeath. Zuko would have to find out on his own.
"I heard you guys flying around down there, so, I just thought I'd wait for you here," Appa growls at him and licks him twice. Aang lowers his staff slightly. "I know you must be surprised to see me here." Sokka shakes his head, "Not really since you've followed us all over the world."
"Right. Well, uhhh ... anyway ... what I wanted to tell you is that I've changed, and I, uhhh, I'm good now, and well I think I should join your group, oh, and I can teach firebending to you." Toph shouts confused, "You want to what now?" Katara crosses her arms. "You can't possibly think that any of us would trust you, can you? Especially after what you did to Truble. I mean, how stupid do you think we are?!"
"I've done some good things! I mean, I could have stolen your bison in Ba Sing Se, but I set him free. That's something!" Appa licks him again, much to his surprise. "I can understand why you wouldn't trust me, and I know I've made some mistakes in the past."
Sokka starts, "Like when you attacked our village?" Then Katara states, "Or when you stole my mother's necklace and used it to track us down and capture us?" Then Toph continues, "Or when you betrayed Truble." I look up at her with a glare. Zori holds my hand lightly. "Look, I admit I've done awful things. I was wrong to try to capture you, and I'm sorry that I attacked the Water Tribe. I'm sorry I went against Truble. And I never should have sent that Fire Nation assassin after you." Toph and Sokka's eyes widen with shock.
"Wait, you sent Combustion Man after us?" "Well that's not his name, but-" Sokka rolled his eyes, "Ohhh, sorry. I didn't mean to insult your friend!" "HE IS NOT MY FRIEND!" I should angrily. I look to Aang, "Why aren't you saying anything? You once said you thought we could be friends. You know I have good in me."
Aang turns to look at his friends, and Sokka shakes his head. "There's no way we can trust you after everything you've done. We'll never let you join us." Katara tugs Zori behind her, "You need to get out of here. Now."
"If you won't accept me as a friend, then maybe you'll take me as a prisoner. I kneel, bend my head, and raise my arms in surrender. "No, we won't!" Katara blasts water at me. "Get out of here, and don't come back! And if we ever see you again, well, we'd better not see you again!"
Zori looks from behind Katara. She nods, and knowing she will be safe, I walk away. Some hidden paths are crossed alone. Uncle would be proud.
~
I wiggle in my chains, my shoulders both out of place by now. I've been suspended for days, and the tips of my toes barely scraped the metal floor. Sweat covered my face, along with bruises and blood from endless interrogations.
"Where is he? Where is Savrar?" A guard punches my stomach making me grimace in pain. "I told you. He's dead. I am the only one left." "And we don't believe you!" Another blow to my stomach and I spit blood into the guard's face. "You little," he grabs my chin with rage in his eyes. "She's supposed to be left alive." A chilling voice sounds from the entrance.
Azula enters with two figures behind her, her so-called friends. She shoves the guard out and shuts the door. "You should be dead, rat."
I look down at my body, a smirk growing on my lips. "Am I not? Hm, weird." One of the girls cartwheels over to me, she runs a finger down my long red hair, "This is really pretty! I've never seen this color before!" The other girl crosses her arms, "so bright it's burning my eyes." Azula smirks at her friend and grabs a knife from Mai's hand. "Let's give you a makeover." Azula moves behind me, grabs my hair in a wad, and pulls my head back, the muscles in my body straining. "Where is the avatar?" "Why don't you use my pendant and see?" Azula slashes a section of my hair, it falls to the ground in uneven lengths. This is humiliating. "Oh, I wish I could. Zuzu took it before I even knew the value. I guess he wanted a souvenir."
Azula slashes another wad off. "So this is what he left me for?" Mai asks walking around me in a circle. "I can't say I'm impressed." I glare at her. "Oh just wait until I get out of here!" I huff fire with fury, thrashing around in my chains. Mai smirks tilting her head. "I'm shaking."
Azula cuts the remaining hair off, leaving it to fall just before my shoulders. "Now you listen rat. We're moving you to boiling rock. One flicker of a flame and I will burn your face off." I smirk at her, "I love when you talk dirty to me." Her eyes bore into mine only making me smile widly. She can't stand my lack of fear. "You should be terrified. I could kill you, rat!" I get as close to her as I can, my face heating up, "I don't do scared." Azula glared at me and stormed out, steam rolling out of her ears.
As the metal door slams shut I rest my head. I see the fallen strands of my hair and sigh. I was taught to never crack. My father was a
Strict man when it came to training and one of the key things he drilled into me was never giving in. Even if it meant death. Which seems like a welcomed friend at this time.
"You've got to keep going." A tiny voice rings in my head. "Zori?" I ask aloud, searching the room from top to bottom. "You can't give up Truble." I allow my head to fall. "I can't do it Zori. I can't get out of here."
"Then I'm coming to get you."

Zuko x Male Reader Request
Imagine meeting Zuko in Ba Sing Sei and getting jealous when he goes on a date with Jin
Tumblr media
You'd been working at the Pao Family Tea House for a while. It wasn't an amazing job but the pay got you through the week and they didn't ask for experience or even identification which was good. You and your family had left your home in the Earth Kingdom without such identification and so overall you were satisfied but one great perk was the new barista. Lee and his uncle had arrived out of nowhere and while Mushi had fit right in Lee was hilariously unhappy to be there. He hated the customers and did not care when they got angry or yelled at him. He put in the minimum level of effort but somehow never got fired or into trouble. You always had a thing for mardy idiots and so you found yourself admiring Lee pretty quickly. When a customer once angrily told him they'd "never come here again" he replied "good" and you broke a cup you were laughing so hard. After working in retail for so long it was oddly soothing to see someone just not give a crap about being rude back and every shift with him was fun. Lee, seemed to like you most (or at least hate you least) out of all the other workers, probably because you also didn't take your job seriously. You got the job done but weren't queuing up to do extra shifts or prove yourself by doing more work. You showed him the perfect ways to get out of doing work, or to hide when customers were coming and he seemed to appreciate that. He wasn't one for talking but he told you he was a refugee too and you bonded about wanting to go home to your old lives. There was something oddly fascinating about Lee and you wanted to get to know him more and more...however you weren't the only one. There was a girl called Jin who came into the tea shop every single time Lee was working. You connected the dots pretty quickly but kept quiet about it hoping the problem would go away. It didn't of course.
"Guess what!" Mushi called as you walked in for your shift and you paused "the Firelord's given up the war and we can all go home?". Mushi smiled "no it's not as good as that but nearly as unbelievable...Lee has a date". "A date?" you asked looking over to the skinny boy sat brooding in the corner "with who?". "That girl who's always in here, we worked out it's because she has a crush on him". Lee glared but you could see he was blushing and that made you sigh. This happened all the time. You'd become friends with a guy, bond with him and hope he'd notice your feelings only for him to choose someone else. It was exhausting but you'd been pretty excited about Lee...it was all for nothing now. "Well congrats" you shrugged before grabbing an apron and heading outside. You were in a bad mood after that and Lee strangely enough seemed to notice it. You snapped at a customer and he smirked "what's gotten into you? Usually I'm the one telling people where they can stick their tea leaves". You shrugged "just guess I'm not feeling it today, is that a problem". "No not at all" Lee said raising his hand but he was still smirking. "You know it's kind of funny seeing you mad, you're usually pretty stoic and unbothered so it's amusing to see you get mad". You rolled your eyes "I'm not mad I'm just irritated". "Why?" Lee asked "every day in here is irritating so what's so bad about today?". "You know I really admire your positivity, you're really nice to be around" you replied sarcastically. Lee smirked "and you're trying to duck the question". You sighed "well at the moment it's definitely you irritating me, why are you still here? Don't you have a date to prepare for?". You'd seen the boy get angry plenty of times but the time when you were actually trying to provoke him he just laughed. "You even look kind of like an angry turtle duck" he smirked "I really like this side to you y/n, you should show it more". You rolled your eyes and Lee smiled "but you're right. I did finish 60 seconds ago so I definitely shouldn't still be here. Have a great shift" he said smiling widely to annoy you and strode out the door. You sighed and raised a hand to your head. All evening you couldn't get Lee's date out of your head and when you showed up for work the next morning you knew you'd hear about it. When you walked in Mushi was working and you made your way towards him.
"How was the date?" you asked Mushi knowing he'd tell you eventually so you should just get it out of the way. "Ow I think it went very well! Lee seemed to enjoy it". You nodded "well I'm pleased for him" but couldn't have sounded less pleased. When Lee showed up to take over from his uncle you were relieved knowing Lee wouldn't bring it up and he didn't. Then Jin walked in. You froze and tossed Lee the tea towel "I'm going on break". He frowned "what? You can't leave me all alone, it's against the rules". "Yeah well tell the boss and get me fired then" you shrugged and went into the back. Lee sighed and followed you "what is with you lately? You're not a suck-up but you do care about not getting fired and doing an okay job". You shrugged "well I obviously don't want to be fired but I might take that over a continuation of your date". "My date?" Zuko asked and then he spotted Jin. She waved and he waved back awkwardly "this isn't a date, she's just here for tea". "Great then why don't you go get her some?" you replied. Lee frowned "why is this such a big deal for you? Come to think of it, you've been weird ever since you found out she likes me". You laughed "what? No I haven't! You're very self-centred Lee". "Yes you have and I think I know why" he said stepping closer. Your breath quickened but quickly evaporated at his next words. "You like Jin don't you?". You couldn't even laugh at how wrong Lee was but he took your silence to mean he was right. "I knew it! You know if you just admit it, I can put in a good word for you. She's nice but not for me". "No I don't like Jin!" you cried but Lee wouldn't let up. "It's so obvious you do so don't be childish. Just tell the truth". "But I don't like her!" you replied and he nodded "keep telling yourself that I know the truth and the truth is you like Jin and are jealous of me". "No you idiot!" you cried and kissed Lee before he could say another stupid thing. "I'm not jealous of you, I'm jealous of her" you whispered and Lee nodded "ow...ow" he said. You let go of him and stepped away. Lee was quiet for quite a while after that. You were standing there an anxious mess but he just wasn't saying anything. Then as you went to leave he sighed "look I like you but I can't". How many times had you heard that? You sighed "Lee if you don't like me you can just say that, you don't have to pretend" you replied and he shook his head. "No that's not it! Just I...my past is complicated and I'm not too sure how long we'll be here or what's going to happen to me and my uncle so it's not a good idea to start making connections or more with people" he said blushing "but that's not because I don't want to I promise". You still couldn't believe he was lying to your face and just shook your head "whatever I'm going" and walked away. Lee called after you once but he didn't follow. After that you avoided Lee and made sure to never get put on the same shift with him. The boy didn't try speaking to you again although you'd sometimes catch him watching you. When Moshi and Lee got offered their own cafe Moshi asked you to come with them but you didn't want to be around Lee so you declined. A few weeks later the two of them vanished. The talk was all over town but then quickly overshadowed by the invasion of the Fire Nation. Luckily the town was pretty big so they couldn't police everywhere and you managed to get through the next few months until the White Lotus liberated your town. Then things went back to normal pretty quickly and you were back into your old routine. You walked to the cafe and unlocked the door getting ready for the day. You walked to the back without looking around and were putting on your apron when you heard someone clear their throat. You jumped out of your skin and spun around wielding a coffee mug in front of you as a weapon. If it wasn't for the scar you wouldn't have recognised Lee. He looked very different, his hair was longer and even though his clothes were plain they looked very expensive. "H/n" he said speaking first "I...I'm not sure if you recognise me but it's Lee". You nodded "I recognise you" and Lee nodded "that's good...you're still here". You raised an eyebrow "was I not supposed to be?". "No I meant that in a good way...I was worried you'd have moved and I wouldn't be able to find you". You shook your head "my family have decided to stay here until we see what's happening out there but why were you trying to find me?". Lee paused "well you see I've got some things I need to confess to you. I wasn't that truthful when I was here and I want you to know the truth...who I really am". You nodded a little confused but also intrigued. "My name isn't Lee, it's Zuko and I'm from the Fire Nation Royal family". You snorted "yeah and I'm the earth king's pet bear, did you really come all this way to try and mess with me?" you asked. Lee or Zuko shook his head "no y/n I'm telling the truth! My name is Zuko and I'm...". You pushed open the backdoor and tried to force him out but the second it swung open some green warriors all began pointing their weapons at you, "Let the Firelord go...slowly" the lead one said and your hand dropped away from him "holy shit you're telling the truth!". After that Zuko explained everything. How he'd been banished, ended up in Ba Sing Sei, return a hero and then dethroned his father. It all seemed like an elaborate story of fiction but you could tell he was telling the truth. "So now you're the Firelord?" you asked and Zuko nodded "yep, still getting used to that and it's been 3 months but I am the Firelord". You nodded "so what are you doing here?" Zuko laughed nervously and nodded "well I often felt bad about how we left things". You winced "now I can see you were being serious about your life being complicated". Zuko smiled "I was...I didn't like leaving the way me and my uncle did so I wanted to come back to explain and also to pass on a message. My uncle has decided to move back here and has opened up his cafe again". You nodded "the jasmine dragon, everyone will be thrilled". Zuko smiled "he thinks so but he also said he needs great staff and as I'll be off running the country he wants you. He can pay you triple what you're getting here and wants to give you proper employee benefits like health care and insurance for your family". You blinked "are you being serious?". Zuko nodded "completely. We both really appreciated the kindness you showed us here and my uncle wants to make up for it, so what do you say?". You shook your head "I...well I'm not going to say no to that am i?". Zuko smiled "We hoped not, do you want to see the place?". "Of course!" you nodded and the two of you set off with his body guards leading and trailing him defensively. "
I'm really glad you're accepting the position y/n, I think you're really going to like it" Zuko told you and you nodded "me too" smiling. Zuko smiled back blushing slightly and you grinned, amused this blushing handsome fool was the Firelord. "So your uncle's moved here permanently?" you asked and Zuko nodded "yep". "That must be hard for you, I know the two of you were close". Zuko nodded "we still are, I visit as much as I can so you'll be seeing me every month at least". "Every month huh?" you asked and Zuko nodded "or more frequently if I can get away, is that okay?". You nodded "that sounds great" and Zuko smiled "great" and then winced making you laugh. You reached the cafe and Zuko held the door open for you "you ready to start your new life?" he asked stretching out a hand to you. You smiled and took his hand.

Part 2 to how the group cannot fathom how you and Zuko are so close with your angel of a self and Zuko being... well, Zuko
Tumblr media
AN: OKAY! Look at me go, coming out with a part two. I think I might do a part two to some previous pieces of mine but we will see.
SO this is a part two, so you can read the first one here, it will give some context clues into this second part of the story (but can probably be read solo) : Part 1
Any who, ~2300 word count, enjoy :)
KIDDIE FREE ZONE
Good Friends
That's all you guys were. Good Friends. Zuko kept telling himself he had no reason to be so bothered by that statement, but he was. He didn't want to be just good friends, but you had given a better answer then he would have in your position. But now the Gaang has been flying for the past couple days and has given him lots of time for thinking. Especially having you for the majority of the time sitting with him leaning against his arm, grazing legs, as you were not shy to the general touch. You always seemed to start up the conversations with him, your way of speech held him in interest, but as already known, he never said much back, but always was happy to listen.
But ever since that last night of camp a few days ago he cannot let the thought go. Good Friends. He knew that the talks you two have, the moments you both cherish, and the secrets you two shared was enough of a connection to be more than just good friends, or at least in his mind it was. You two were absolutely glued to the hip, and seemed to be together, just without the title. Zuko was fine with no title, he would rather the group didn't know but for you two to have that clarity is what he was craving. He knew there were other things that were more important at the moment but it couldn't calm down in his mind. He had to know, he wanted to be together. Even if that became another secret you both shared he would gladly add it to the pile.
As the afternoon began to fall fast on the fourth day of travel, the Gaang was running low on rations and decided to hit the next market in the upcoming town. Upon arrival, Aang and Sokka grabbed Zuko to tackle their list as Katara and Toph grabbed you to get the remaining items. Zuko was hoping to buddy up with you but it would have to wait. As the group divided and conquered, Sokka was getting very nosy with Zuko about a certain someone. Zuko ignored all of his questions or what felt like more accusations. Meanwhile the girls had finished with their tasks and Toph had somehow gotten into a gambling match with the remaining money they had and won every time. You stood back leaning against a nearby wall smiling, not wanting anything to do with the situation but you weren't going to interfere either. You feel a brush against your shoulder and look up to see Zuko, you smile and greet Aang and Sokka. You ask how their huntings went and they all agreed it had gone well. Zuko looked at you and asked if Toph and Katara were seriously gambling the little money they had left. You laughed and were about to answer but before you could Toph came over with a large bag and tossed it at Zuko. He caught it effortlessly, and it jingled heavily. All of the boys eyes widened, and Toph said "We will be sleeping well tonight thanks to yours truly."
The Gaang walked around the town as the night grew darker and the many street lamps glowed near and far, Zuko's mind still buzzing with the taunting thought of good friends. Maybe he was over thinking it and there was already an unspoken agreement you two were together? Or was he being weird and obsessive? Or maybe you had a completely different view on all of it? Or maybe-
His thoughts were cut off by you linking your arm through his and pointing out the beautiful lights, from the shops, to concessions, to the fountains, to the groups of lively people. He looked down at you and for the first time, he wasn't really listening to you. He just looked at you, looked at your smile as if you knew this moment was made just for you. He would forever be in awe at how effortlessly you spoke as if you had already rehearsed it one hundred times. He feels your genuine happiness and spirit in your eyes as you look up at him and he wonders how you hold such grace through everything. All his thoughts left his mind as he looked at you and thought, yeah, that is my girl.
Once the Gaang decided to call it a night, you all looked for an Inn to stay at for the night. There was not much of an option in the small town, so you all entered the closest place and the lady at the front desk greeted you all with a warm smile. Aang went to talk with the lady and brought back a handful of keys. Everyone was confused as he handed everyone their own key and explained that they only had single rooms left for the night. Nobody really complained as everyone seemed they could use some time to themselves. Everyone shuffled into their rooms with quick goodnights, but before Zuko walked through his door, he looked over his shoulder at your direction, and there you were. Walking into your room and almost as if you felt his eyes you looked over your shoulder and stopped for a moment, you smiled at Zuko and gave a small wave of goodnight before stepping into your room and closing the door. Zuko's eyes stayed on your room for a moment longer, before a small tap on his shoulder made him spin around. It was Katara. Zuko was lost for words. Katara smiled and whispered "I won't tell, not that is isn't already so obvious, but you should really talk to her." Before Zuko could respond to her she waved goodnight and walked into her room. He stood in the hallway like a man who was shot and was too afraid to move. He looked back at your door, he felt the longing in every part of his being to just go and knock on your door and say everything he has been thinking just like you do. How you so effortlessly say exactly what you're thinking, that is what he wanted to do. He wanted to tell you what it meant to him to have someone like you become so close to someone like him. He wanted to tell you that the secrets you both shared with each other meant the world to him and he would take them to his very grave if you wished so. He wanted to tell you that every time you smiled it felt like it was for him and him only. But he didn't. He walked back into his room and shut the door.
Zuko got ready for bed and laid down for a few minutes, he tossed and turned and his chest felt so heavy. He let out a sigh as he laid on his back and placed a hand on his chest with the other one behind his head. He stared up at the ceiling. Zuko let out a small grunt of frustration when he got up, deciding to go get some water. He grabbed the bucket from the small table in the room and walked towards the door. Zuko grabbed the bridge of his nose in exasperation and pulled his hand down his face, he went and opened the door and to his complete shock, there you stood. You looked almost as surprised as he did. You both stood in silence for a moment, and for the first time, Zuko spoke first. He asked if you were alright, because the last thing he expected was for you to be standing at his door in the middle of the night. You replied softly, saying you were ok, just had a lot on your mind. You noticed Zuko holding the bucket for water and offered to go with him to fetch some, he agreed. This time you both walked in silence to retrieve the water and walked in silence back to the rooms. You both came to stand outside Zuko's room and he asked if you were sure you were ok, and you replied that you were, probably just over tired. Zuko looked at you and asked you if you wanted to come into his room. You smiled softly and insisted you didn't want to intrude. He didn't respond and just motioned you inside, you accepted and walked in, Zuko shut the door behind you.
Zuko grabbed the ladle and poured you some water while you sat on the bed, he handed you the cup. You smiled and thanked him as you grabbed the cup and took a sip. Zuko sits next to you and rests his elbows on his thighs and looks down between his knees to the floor, he's not sure how he wants to go about tonight. He has no idea where to start, no idea how to talk or truly express his thoughts. He worries about sounding like a bumbling fool compared to your angelic soft spoken way of words. But before he could think further, the bed shifted and you were now directly beside Zuko with your head leaning on his shoulder. He looked up and he knew he wanted this, he wanted to be the one to call you his. He wanted to be by your side every step of the way and watch you regain the pride of being a fire bender. He wanted to have you by his side helping him with the path of change after the comet, and he didn't want to do it as good friends, he wanted to do it together. Zuko took in a deep breath, and asked "Do you really think we are just good friends?" and without a breath missed you replied "I knew your ears were on fire that night." you sat up with that comment, Zuko smirked and chuckled, you two were very close now, mere inches from each other's faces. "But no..." you replied, "I don't think we are just good friends, do you?" Zuko looked into your eyes, they seemed to shimmer the most beautiful shade of amber even with the liminal lighting in the room. "I don't think so either." He replied. Zuko saw your eyes dart to his lips and back to his eyes but the second your gaze connected back with his, he was already pulling you into a kiss. He put his hand just under your ear, along your jaw, pulling you in gently, as if giving you an option to back out. But you didn't, you leaned in and placed your hand on his arm and you kissed deep. Zuko lavished in this moment and if there was any way he could pull you in even closer he would. You pulled away first and looked at Zuko, he looked at you with so many emotions, "We are together." he stated. You smiled so wide and nodded, for the first time you were speechless and practically tackled Zuko to the bed, kissing him so deeply while he gladly reciprocated with the same action. You were straddling Zuko as he effortlessly flipped you over on the bed so he was now on top, you placed both your hands on his jaw and leaned up to give him a small kiss and then laid back down. "Would you stay with me tonight?" Zuko asked, you smiled, "Of course I will, I thought you'd never ask." Zuko rolls his eyes and leans down for a kiss but you halt his actions by asking, "What about the others, they will see me leaving your-" Zuko cuts you off with a soft kiss and after responds "I don't care, they can make their own assumptions." You smile so happily and nod your head, "But, they are going to ask questions-" you started but again Zuko cut you off before you can overthink, "So answer them however you want to, however you feel is right." He leans down and kisses you so romantically, and moves to your cheek, and down to your jaw, and making his way to your neck, you let out the smallest gasp. You could feel tingles all throughout your body, from your fingertips to your toes. This was the moment you were both waiting for, Zuko knew this is what he wanted, he wanted you now, tomorrow, the day after that, the months that follow and the years to come. You were his as much he was yours. He gave himself to you that night as you gave yourself to him. Both vulnerable to one another, savouring each movement, each touch, every breath you both shared. The night was exactly what you both wanted, it was what you both needed.
The next morning Zuko woke up with you laying on his chest and his arms wrapped around you. Both of you spent the morning getting ready and just smiling at each other, no lingering feeling or questions of what ifs. You could both just be together.
It was time to check out and continue the journey, so you both gathered all your belongings and walked to the door. You both stopped and you looked at Zuko, "They are going to ask." you stated, and Zuko looked right back at you, "Then answer." he replied. He opened the door and the Gaang was waiting in the hall. Katara was the first to see you both exit and she tried to hide her smile with a polite hand, the others turned to look and were caught a blank. Zuko shut the door with you standing by his side. You greeted everyone and you both walked towards the group, "What are you all staring at, let's head out." Zuko said so nonchalantly, everyone stood in silence for a second longer and proceeded on like nothing happened.

Would it be okay if I asked for a Zuko drabble where he warms up reader with his fire while they're stuck in a cave? I know you said you were considering writing for them again so I figured I'd start with a small request. Thank you if you do it, your writing is amazing.
Tumblr media
You sat closer to the fire Zuko started, your blanket wrapped close to your body. You could feel the cold seeping through from the outside, making it go all the way down to your toes.
"You're freezing." Zuko shot more fire in front of you, keeping the flame going to warm you up. "I don't have any more blankets but the good news is that the storm is letting up. We should get out of here by morning."
"I'm gonna be a block of ice by morning." You scooted closer to the flame, letting it warm your palms and then the rest of you. It wasn't enough, you went right back into you cocoon of warmth in the next few seconds.
Zuko threw you a flirty smile, "The prettiest block of ice I've ever seen." Not even his smile could stop you from rolling your eyes at that line.
Counting that as a win regardless Zuko moved to sit behind you, "Don't get any funny ideas, Fire Lord."
"Who me? Never. I just want to warm you up better." Zuko pressed his hands against your hips and pulled you back, the warmth of his boy radiating off him, acting as a heater. "Hold out your hands." As you did so he leaned his head over your shoulder and blew a small flame toward your hands, warming you up further, he did it until he felt your body relax against him and no longer shaking.

Can you please write jealous Zuko? It can be however you like😊
a/n: i love jealous zuko! however this ended up being more angsty than i intended😭 hope you enjoy!
summary: a party at the palace leads to a deep revelation for zuko
Tumblr media
He was miserable.
The palace didn’t throw parties very often these days, but the recent conquering of another Earth colony was deemed a call for celebration, and so all of the noble families in the Capital City were invited to attend. A grand feast was held and praises were showered upon Ozai throughout the night. It was one of the rare times Zuko didn’t have to worry about his father’s wrath, and so he should have been enjoying himself.
But he couldn’t, not when he could see that across the way another boy was flirting with you right in front of him.
You were Zuko’s everything- his childhood best friend that he’d always held harbored feelings for. During his banishment he thought of you constantly, and upon his arrival he immediately asked you to be his girlfriend. You were sweet and friendly, easily approachable and always able to cheer him up despite his moodiness, you were perfect. And apparently this other boy could see this too.
You smile out of politeness and nod along to the boy’s rambling story about his fire bending skills and high IQ, not very interested in listening but too nice to brush him off. It infuriates Zuko to see someone else take advantage of your kindness, and he’s unable to just sit back and watch any longer.
A harsh hand lands upon the boy’s shoulder, startling both of you in the process. Zuko’s eyes are blazing with fury, his palm scorching the fabric of the boy’s robes and scaring the spirits out of him in the process.
“Can’t you take a hint? She doesn’t want to talk to you!” the Prince bellow angrily, prompting a few guests nearby to turn their heads curiously towards the commotion. A bit embarrassed at the sudden attention, you gently pull Zuko’s hand away and drag him out to the gardens before he can escalate the situation any further. The last thing you need is for him to cause a scene at his father’s party.
“What?” Zuko says defensively as you wordlessly walk through the palace hallways. “I was helping you!”
“You were acting jealous again,” you chide gently.
“No I wasn’t!” He argues defensively only to shrink under your pointed gaze. “…I was.”
“I love you, Zuko, but I don’t love how jealous you can get sometimes. I’m your girlfriend, don’t you trust me?”
“Of course I do!” He interjects quickly, almost offended at the notion.
“Then what is it? Why do you act this way?”
Zuko is silent, his eyes casted sullenly to the floor as you patiently wait for his answer. You take his hands in your own and give them a reassuring squeeze to let him know you’re there for him, and the act seems to coax him out of his stupor.
“I’m afraid you’ll change your mind about being with me, and once the right guy comes along you’ll realize you’re better off without me,” he admits quietly, almost ashamed to voice the thought out loud.
“Zuko…” you utter sadly, heartbroken at the fact that he could even believe such a thing.
“Why do you want to be with a boy who’s been exiled from his own country before? Whose own father burned his face? Who’s so messed up in every way possible?”
Gently carefully cupping his face in your hands, you tilt his head upward to meet your sincere gaze. His eyes are glossy with tears he refuses to let fall, and your heart aches for the poor boy before you. You wish you could take away all of his hurt in agony, but you can’t, so you do your best to take away his insecurity instead.
“I wish you could yourself the way I see you,” you tell him lovingly. “You are more than enough for me, more than I could ever ask for. You’re strong, you’re brave, you’re smart. You’re you. I love you, Zuko. No one’s ever going to get into the way of that.”
He says nothing in response but simply yanks you into his arms for the tightest hug you’ve ever possibly received. You know he isn’t the best at words or emotions, but his embrace conveys that he is grateful for every word to come out of your mouth.
He knows he may be jealous at times, but he also knows that he doesn’t have to be anymore.
Because you’re not going anywhere.

Believe Me Now?
Prince Zuko x Fem Reader
Summary: After narrowly missing getting a scar to match Zuko's after he nearly engulfed the ship, the two of you have a heart to heart. Both of you letting your feelings and insecurities known. The sudden flood of vulnerability and reassurance leads to things getting intense.
Word Count: 1.0k+
TW: Smut.
<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3
Zuko was currently in a private meeting with Iroh, trying to calculate the best route for the latest lead on the Avatar. You were sitting in the room the two of you shared on the ship. Cleaning the room, folding clothes among other things. Even though you were a bit ignorant of all the little details of hunting the Avatar, you could see it slowly chipping away at Zuko. He was more ornery, the smallest things setting him off. It was evident that he was becoming impatient, longing for his old life. You resented this at times, why wasn’t the life you were building together enough to satisfy him? Of course it was only naturally from him to want that royal status back. That’s what made you the most insecure; the one thing he wanted more than anything was also the only thing you can’t give him. He bursted into the room, face red and sweat dripping down his forehead.
“I’m so tired of being out maneuvered!” he groaned loudly, slamming the door shut.
“I’m so sorry,” you said.
He sat on the bed, fists balled up and resting on his knees. You rubbed his back, trying your best to calm him down. This wasn’t working, if anything he was becoming more enraged. His mind was snowballing, unable to accept another defeat. Standing up again, making his way out of the room and to the fire room. Where coal was shoved into the furnaces, which powered the ship. Muttering and groaning about how slow we were traveling. Roughly throwing shovel fulls and then shooting fire to ignite them. There were barrels of blasting jelly, normally stored at a safe distance from the heat. Zuko however, shoving large amounts of coal while blasting practically white hot flames was becoming at risk. You were trying to warn him, yelling his name hoping to break him out of this fit. Even you were starting to feel the heat building in the room.
“Zuko stop!” you scream, wanting to get closer but, the heat was burning your skin. You could barely see due to how bright the flames were.
Not being able to stand his self destructive behavior, reaching through the hot sting and grabbing his shoulder. One of the barrels ends up catching fire, sending both of you stumbling back as it combusted. Flames began covering the room, slightly disoriented he grabs your arm and pulls you towards the exit. Soldiers were running in, trying their best to extinguish the blaze. The ship was badly damaged, to the extent of evacuating onto a sister ship nearby. Iroh was pissed at Zuko, especially after seeing the burns on your wrist and shoulder. His uncle was lecturing him the entire boat ride there. You were giving him the cold shoulder, fed up with his anger issues. A bottomless hole that no amount of reassurance and comfort could fill. You could tell he wasn’t listening to Iroh, more just sitting in deep thought. Hopefully regretting his action like the fool he is.
“Are you okay?” he asks as the two of you settle into the new room. Sitting on the bed and thinking about his question for a second. Tears burning into your eyes, preventing you from answering.
“Are you?” you asked.
“Just because I lost my temper doesn’t mean-” he tries to explain.
“No Zuko. I’m tired. You aren’t happy, I’m not making you happy. It seems like this mission is consuming you. I can’t take the way it makes me feel anymore. I want to be enough for- I want to be what you need but maybe I'm just not,” you said through your tears.
“I don’t think that, I just want to give you the life you deserve. I want you to be my Fire Lady, to have a crown and be honored as the royalty you are. I feel like my banishment obliterated our entire future together, and it’s my fault,” he said, sitting next to you on the bed.
“I can’t even believe you’d say that, I love you so much. Why do you think I followed you even after banishment? I chose you over everything because I love you, not being royalty or being honored by a kingdom that worships a man who did this to his own blood,” you said, running your finger tips over his scar.
“But you deserve better,” he said.
“No, I know you think that but you’re dumb for that,” you said, which seemed to lighten the mood a bit. He wrapped his arm around you and inspected your arm.
“It’s really not bad, it doesn’t even hurt that bad,” you reassured him.
He just smiled and started kissing up your arm. Making you giggle, his lips tickling your skin. The energy changes when he moves his mouth to your neck. Climbing on top of you, letting yourself fall back; giving him room to join you on the bed. It wasn’t like you hadn't been together before but this time was different. It felt really natural and organic, like you were both reaffirming how much you care about each other. Pulling at his armor, hoping he would take the hint and rip it off. He does, slowly shedding his outer layers. While he did so, you took his pony-tail out, letting the hair fall onto his face. The kissing becomes deeper, more needy and desperate.
Feeling him get hard while he was grinding against you was making you become inpatient. Your core begins to ache from the lack of contact. Taking his pants off and lifting your dress up. Reaching his hand down to feel how wet you were, dropping his forehead on your shoulder and groaning. His dick twitched against your thigh as he realized how turned on you were. You reach down and line him up with your entrance. Slowly pushing in, moving all his attention to you. Making eye contact, wanting to see your face as he stretched you around his cock. Kissing your nose and cheeks once he was fully inside. They two of you stayed still for a while, rocking your hips every now and again.
There was something so much more intimate about just embracing each other. Enjoying the feelings of being full, watching his eyebrows furrow. Hearing him moan every time you squeeze your walls around him. Whispering affirmations into your ear, talking about how much he loved you. He began thrusting into you, wrapping one of arms around the back of your neck. Pulling you closer to him, becoming more sensitive as he started pounding harder.
'The slaps of wet skin and moans fill the room. Pressing your lips into his shoulder, biting and sucking hickies onto him. You wrapped your legs around his waist, running your hands down his back. Feeling all his muscles harden and contract. He was practically panting into your ear, the sensitivity almost felt like a burning as you came. Raking your nails down his back, sending him into his climax. Rutting and bucking into you at an erratic pace. Collapsing onto after it was done, holding you tightly. Not even bothering to pull out before the two of you fell asleep.'The slaps of wet skin and moans fill the room. Pressing your lips into his shoulder, biting and sucking hickies onto him. Summary: Returning to a massive city in the earthkingdom. The three of you are rather greeted with brutal force... from fire benders. What might cause them to lash out to the fire prince and what will this mean for the future. [ part 1  & part 2 & part 3 ]
Tumblr media
The ship neared land. You stood at the railing, still feeling a bit out of sense. You weren’t your full self yet. Still recovering from the Northern water tribe battle. Turning your head you caught Zuko arriving on deck. His fire nation clothing set aside. Settling for something plain. More natural to the earth kingdom colours. It made you look at your own clothing for a moment. Stating it so obvious you were from the water tribes. The brightest blue and silver.
Zuko went over to the other side, watching a small boat be lowered into the waters to head for land. Not a moment later came Iroh in sight. No sign of his fire nations colours as well. It made you wonder for a moment if you needed to change as well. One of the soldiers approached you. – “Princess.” – he greeted with a bow. He then gestured at Zuko and Iroh, who were waiting to get on the boat.
You gave him a respective nod before following him to the boat. Iroh took you by the arm, moving you forwards. – “Are you sure you are up for it?” – Iroh asked. – “Yes.” – you told him, not wanting them to be on their own. Also you didn’t want to look weak in front of them.
You got helped down in the boat. Iroh already sitting down with you. Looking up, you saw Zuko speak to his closest soldier. Slipping him something as it made you wonder what it was. Zuko then made his way down. You decided not to ask about it. Iroh handed an oar over to Zuko. They wanted to set it in the water as you got up, undoing yourself from your cloak.
With a deep sigh you sometimes wondered if they were truly dumb or just pretending to be. – “Put the oars down boys.” – you told them. Zuko and Iroh gave each other a glance. – “Princess you are not fully healed yet… let us row.” – Iroh suggested. You didn’t want to hear it. You could easily bring them to shore in a few minutes, while their rowing might take you hours.
“I’m not made of glass.” – you commented taking a stand in the centre of the boat. – “Y/n sit down!” – Zuko ordered bothered. You puffed loud, swaying your hands. The boat got pushed through the water, making Zuko fall back. Annoyed he grabbed onto the railing.
The water rippled smoothly around the boat as you steered it to land. Iroh enjoying the breeze. Zuko sitting with his arms crossed, moping grumpily. In a matter of minutes, you arrived at land. Iroh and Zuko pushed the boat further onto land to hide. You left your coat in the boat as it wasn’t cold anymore. – “Where are we going?” – you asked joining Zuko and Iroh.
“Anywhere!” – Zuko responded bitsy. Rolling with your eyes, you followed them further into the earth kingdom. After a while of wandering the forests, you started to recognized bits and pieces of previous travels. You had been here before not so long ago. Once you found a pathway, you knew enough.
Seeing the mountain of a city up head. Omashu. Frowning you wondered where all the people were. People used to line up to the gates to try and enter. Now it was deserted. You didn’t appear to be the only one confused, as Iroh was as equally confused yet didn’t commented on it. Zuko was leading the way.
Bushes ruffled as it made Zuko and Iroh take a stand. You turned around taking a stand for yourself to protect them from behind. There was more rustling till some men appeared from behind it. Zuko and Iroh lowered their firm hands with a soft sigh. They were fire nation soldiers. – “It’s the prince!” – one of them called out loud. Something about their tone alerted you.
Two or three men joined as they performed a sequence to conjure fire. Iroh and Zuko stumbled confused back. You tensed your jaw pushing between them as their fire unleashed. Moving your hands across, you caught the fire with a stream of water. They were shocked for a moment. Your expression turned serious, staring coldly at them.
“What is going on?” – Iroh called out confused why some of their own would attack. – “This is Prince Zuko!” – he told them. The soldiers ignored Iroh’s talk, pushing their fists forwards to blast fire at them. You held your hands in front of you, blocking the fire with a wave of water. Zuko grunted loud with a shout, letting his hands blaze fire.
Zuko threw fire at them with loud grunts of anger. Iroh joined keeping himself composed while he bended. Two of them turned their attention to you. Chuckling thinking this would be an easy win. You smiled witty back at them before letting water swish around you. Swiping your hands below while you spun, sweeping them off their feet with water.
A little change of your hand posture made the water go cold and turn into ice. You caught Zuko stumbling back, arms up as he blocked a wave of fire. You rushed over to him as Zuko lowered his hands. Doing a little jump, you moved your leg from up to down as you had seen Zuko do numerous times. A stream of water slashing the soldier like a whip.
The soldier got whipped to the ground. Zuko stared with wide eyes at you, recognizing the fire bending move. Zuko’s attention fell on a soldier coming from the side. He grabbed your wrist, pulling at it. Stumbling over your feet, you got moved behind him as he blocked the fire coming your way.
Another one came in view as you turned your posture towards him. Fighting back to back with Zuko against the soldiers. Water droplets nearing fire flickers. Iroh came closer as the three of you stood up right, panting as you looked at the soldiers out bested. Zuko puffed angered walking up the them. – “Who send you!” – he called out.
The soldiers were too worn out to reply, barely finding the strength to get up. You joined Zuko’s side, grabbing one by the collar. – Don’t mess with the prince again!” – you told them coldly. You then punched him in the jaw, sending him back down. Zuko turned towards you, touching your elbow.
“I’m good.” – you told him before he could ask it. He nodded firm in return. – “We cannot stay here.” – Iroh spoke urging Zuko and you to leave with him. The three of you went on, trailing up to the great city of Omashu. – “The fire nation so close to Omashu… they never dared before.” – Iroh mumbled to himself.
The city peaked up. Eyes widening as your mouth fell open. The flags of the fire nation waving gracefully in the wind against the sturdy walls of Omashu. - “How?” – you questioned. – “The water tribe was a distraction.” – Iroh commented firm. – “Who could’ve done this?” – was your next question as your eyes fell on something. You walked past Zuko closer to the walls. It first seemed little, but when you came closer it was a thousand papers sticking to the wall.
You gasped tearing one off the wall. – “What do you have?” – Zuko asked in a loud tone. His question made you move it behind your back. Not that it was many use as it was plastered a thousand times more behind you. Zuko approached you, keeping his gaze at you.
Coming to stand in front of you. – “Y/n!” – he simply said to demand you to give him what you were keeping hidden from him. Shaking your head, you didn’t want him to see. Zuko moved his arm around you, snatching the paper from your hands. It was a bit wrinkled so he smoothed it over till his eyes widened as well.
The shock in his eyes when he saw his own face on a wanted poster. He then looked up seeing a thousand more of them sticking to the wall. The poster crumbled in his hands as it flared up in flames. Turning to ashes. Zuko grunted turning sharp on his heel. Iroh neared looking at the posters for himself. – “Is it the fire lord?” – you asked him.
Iroh exhaled deep. – “Perhaps…” – he muttered. Iroh took you by the arm, leading you away from the walls of Omashu. The city wasn’t save anymore. – “Those soldiers… is that why they?” – you questioned. – “I fear so.” – Iroh commented, eyeing Zuko up ahead. Pacing like a mad man.
The three of you moved back towards the waters. Iroh keeping a close eye on every bush. They might be the first, but they won’t be the last. Not now when Zuko is being seen as an enemy of the nation. A shadow fell over the ground as it caught your attention. It made you look up, blocking the sun out to get a better look. High up in the sky, you saw the sky bison soar over the woods.
Knowing it was the Avatar. He probably knew about the fall of Omashu as well. Having been falling a bit behind, you jogged over to join Iroh. Iroh caught up with Zuko catching him by his shoulder. Zuko pushed his hand off with aggression. – “Three years I fought to restore my honour and now! I am seen as a traitor to the fire nation!” – he yelled, losing his temper.
Iroh wanted to reach out to his nephew but Zuko just pushed him away. – “I don’t need your sympathy old man!” – he cursed out. – “Zuko!” – you yelled for his temper. – “I certainly don’t need yours!” – he made clear with an angry point.
“Good because you don’t deserve it!” – you answered loudly. Zuko crossed his arms, turning away from you like a grumpy defeated child. – “You have two choices here Zuko. You can either complain about it or do something about it!” – you explained having enough of his whining. Zuko kept his clenched posture for a moment, till he exhaled deep, loosening his muscles.
He slowly turned his head back to you, ashamed that he got scolded by you. – “Now I assume we can’t go back to the ship?” – you asked Iroh who nodded. – “So we live on as fugitives until we get to the bottom of this.” – you took the lead as it seemed he wasn’t capable of taking decisions that were of ration. Zuko looked over at his uncle who only shrugged his shoulders, agreeing in silent with you.
Zuko puffed loud going right, heading away from the ship. Iroh gave you an approving nod. You were getting better at tempering him. Proudly you smiled in return. The three of you arrived at a stream. Zuko sighed soft as he came kneeling before the stream. Iroh on his right as you came kneeling on his left. Zuko took out a knife as you wondered what he might do.
He brought it up to his ponytail. With a bit of hesitation he cut it off. He then handed the knife over to Iroh, who cut the little bun on his head off. You looked down, closing your eyes for a moment. Opening them, you brought your hands to your neck. Unclipping the necklace of your tribe from your neck. You brought it forwards in your hand. Zuko and Iroh threw their cut off hair into the stream.
Staring at your necklace, you knew the sacrifice you had to do. Moving your hand forwards you wanted to toss your necklace into the water with them. A sudden grip around your wrist withheld you from doing it. Surprised you looked at Zuko. His hand tight around your wrist, his gaze focused on the water.
“It’s my sacrifice.” – you explained. Wanting to show them you were with them till the end. – “No.” – Zuko simply said. He took the necklace out of your hand, bringing it away from the water, closer to him. His hand disappeared under his shirt, where he tugged your necklace away. Your heart warmth by this, you touched his cheek, leaving a quick kiss on his cheek. Still wanting to give something up of yours, you ripped a piece of your dress. Tossing it into the stream.
Glancing to your side, you saw Zuko stare in silence in front of him. Caught off guard by your kiss. Taking a deep breath, you accepted your new faith. Not sure who portrayed Zuko and Iroh as traitors to the fire nation.

Arsonist's Lullabye
Chapter 1: A Burning Flame
Summary: Y/n and Zuko ponder about a potential friendship.
Pairing: zuko x fem! reader (Live Action or Animated)
A/N: And so the slow burn starts! I’m pleasantly surprised by the positive feedback on the prologue, and I’m hoping to keep pumping out these chapters for y'all (and for myself LOL). As always, I would love any feedback / constructive criticism to help me improve on the story. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own the rights to Avatar: The Last Airbender, I am merely a nerd who hyperfixates a lot. Lots of divergence from the canon story lol.
Warnings!: Mentions of Ozai (yes he deserves his own warning), Zuko’s scar, Talks of self loathing, and insecurities (give Zuko and Azula therapy fr!).
Tumblr media
Y/n moved in two weeks before classes started at the University of Ba Sing Se.
She was looking forward to the change of scenery. It was a tough decision to leave Agna Qel’a, but it had to be done. She desperately needed a chance to live apart from her family for once. When she had gotten a spam email asking her to apply for a transfer, she jumped at the opportunity. When she was accepted, she was encouraged to apply for Shui, A scholarship program.
Shui was a program for students of water tribe descent, regardless of where they were from. It would pair her up with an incoming first year student to mentor and guide through college. It was a pretty intense application process, writing essays, getting interviewed by university representatives and moving in early. The first week was rather uneventful, meeting all the first years and doing an assortment of different icebreaker activities in an attempt to find the perfect mentor-mentee match.
But all of it was leading up to this big moment. She was about to learn who her mentee was. The program coordinator for Shui had given all the mentors and mentees a piece of paper with their person’s name on it. The atmosphere in the room was full of energy as  all of the students waited impatiently to learn who they would be paired with.
“Alright everyone! On the count of three…”
They began to countdown altogether. “Three…Two…One!”
Chaos broke out in the room with lots of cheers and laughter. Y/n opened her piece of paper.
Katara
She had talked to Katara a lot the past week. Y/n liked Katara. She was sweet, and particularly snarky to her older brother, Sokka, who was also a mentor this year. Y/n also vaguely remembered a mention of her being a water-bender, just like herself.  Katara locked eyes with Y/n from across the room, and they quickly started to walk towards each other.
“I’m so glad I got you! You were like, the number one person I had on my list!” Katara squealed with excitement and Y/n laughed at the younger girl's antics, bringing her in for a hug. The two rocked side to side, before Y/n released Katara from her grasp.
“Let’s go get lunch. My treat, obviously.”
Katara let out a sigh, “You are amazing. This is going to be a fantastic year.”
As the pair walked off campus and into the city, Y/n passed the tea shop she had visited a mere two days ago. The cashier, Zuko, she remembered, looked about her age. She had thought about him a lot. Like being drawn to a treasure chest, eager to uncover the secrets hidden within its lock. Did they attend the same university? What major had he chosen to study? Where exactly was he from? Is he a bender? Of course there was another part of her brain, the nosy part, that wondered,
How did he get the scar on his face?
She came back to the present once she realized she had stopped in her tracks, causing Katara to stop alongside her.
“Y/n? Are you alright?” Katara asked attentively.
Y/n shrugged off her concerns, waving a hand dismissively. “I’m fine. Do you know any good Southern Water Tribe restaurants nearby?”
“Um, of course I do! This one restaurant has the best stewed sea prunes in Ba Sing Se!..”
While Katara rambled on about food, in the back of Y/n’s mind Zuko permeated her thoughts. He was like a burning flame the way that thoughts of him danced around her mind, filling it with visions of an all encompassing fire.
She wanted to know him.
~
On the days where the shop was closed, Zuko didn’t do much. He had no hobbies, no life outside of the Jasmine Dragon. He was very much aware of this fact, as Iroh constantly lectured him on it. The words replayed in his mind frequently. ‘You need to hangout with people your age, Zuko.’
He was actually starting to agree with his uncle on something.
When he had moved in with his uncle as a 14 year old, hanging out with people his age was out of the question. With his bandaged face and newly shaved head, he knew that his peers would have ulterior motives for interacting with him. In return, he had reverted into exactly the kind of son his father had always wanted. Stuck up, authoritative, even cruel. It’s why he was ostracized in highschool. He recalled how his first year of university had completely gone up in flames, but then again, that was all his fault. Everything was always his fault. He was fortunate that Iroh was a thousand times more forgiving than his father. Iroh hadn’t so much as batted an eye when Zuko told him that he would need to restart his freshman year of college.
Zuko realized he would need to try harder than that this year. He held out hope that his sophomore year would be different.
Maybe Y/n could help with that. She seemed friendly enough when they met at the shop?
Zuko shook the thoughts from his head. ‘You don’t even know her!’ his head screamed. If he were more rational, he’d berate himself for being so invested in a girl he knew virtually nothing about. But he can’t seem to bring himself to actually think logically right now. The desire for connection burns in the pit of his stomach, and he can feel himself growing frustrated at his inability to just be cool for once in his life.
The boy pushed the negative feelings away, taking a couple of deep breaths like his therapist had taught him. Zuko was determined to be better. To be good. And he knew exactly where to start. With the people he tormented for years.
He knew he had to make amends with Aang and the others.

“stop…moving!” you grit, holding zuko’s face as he glares at you, small wince erupting from his throat.
“how do you expect me-“ he hisses, hands instinctively flying up to get a hold of your wrists. “to not move when there’s this huge fucking burn on my face!” zuko retorts, grip tightening on you. you sigh, heart dropping as you no longer see that glint in his eyes. the glint that is now replaced with sadness, pain, suffering.
zuko’s chambers grew dead silent, no more arguing, no more disagreeing from you or him. just silence.
a small smile spread on his face as he now caressed your wrist with his thumb, pressing a small kiss to it, “i’m sorry for grabbing so hard.” this made your head perk up, blush spreading across your cheeks. you shake your head, “i understand.” the room goes silent again.
only thing that could be heard were the faint yells of the firebenders training outside and the mouse like footsteps of whoever passed by the unnecessarily and stupidly huge doors.
you kept applying the ointment onto zuko’s wound, sitting back with a small huff to examine him. to you, even with that huge scar on his face, he’s still as handsome as ever. you noticed how he tried to hide it from you, looking down at his trembling hands as the events from earlier are still fresh in his mind.
he slumped back on the bed, eliciting a whine of disapproval - you weren’t done tending to him. zuko ignores this as he just lays there, gazing up at his tall ceiling with a blank stare.
you knew him all too well, which means you also knew he was hiding something. refraining himself from talking. you hated it.
“zuko-?” you started as his body jerked up from the wine red sheets.
“i’m getting exiled.” he didn’t let you speak, words crawling up his throat as he was unable to hold them back.
you felt as if all air had been knocked out of your lungs, like a punch to the gut. your chest heaved, eyes squinting and eyebrows knitting together.
“w-what?” it’s not that you didn’t hear, in fact zuko’s words unfortunately fell on very perceptive ears.
“i’m-“
“you’re joking, right?” you chuckled awkwardly, fading into nothing as his eyes saddened. “i’m sorry.” was all he could muster. you frantically shook your head, disgusted that he felt forced to apologize for something he had no control over.
“how long?”
zuko hummed, eyes spaced out somewhere, looking everywhere but at you. you bit your lip, kneeling towards him, cold and shaky hands cupping his cheeks.
“stop avoiding and answer me, zuko. how long?”
zuko’s eyes peeled away from wherever he was previously glancing at, “however long it takes.” he mumbles and you frown, “what do you even mean by that.” you sigh, sitting back in defeat as you run your fingers through your hair.
“until i catch the avatar.”
you scoffed, “that’s fucking ridiculous.” zuko agreed silently, but that wasn’t enough for you. nowhere near, actually.
“i’m going to speak to your father.” you stand, making him stand with you, eyes wide and pupils blown.
“you can’t, yn.” he reaches for you in vain as you yank your hand back. “don’t try to stop me, zuko.” you were beyond pissed, tone dripping venom as zuko stood in front of you, obstructing your way to the door.
“move, goddamnit!” you hit his chest repeatedly, each strike more desperate than the last. “how are you just…okay with this?” you sobbed, forehead propped against his chest, his arms falling beside him, stiff as a statue.
“what more can i do?”
he made a good point, so good that it shushed you with a slap to the face.
“i’m leaving.”
“yn please wait-“
“im. leaving.” your lip quivered, voice shaky, eyes watery. zuko nodded, moving back to his bed, sitting on the edge.
you made your way to the bed as well, grabbing the ointment and placing it back on the metal tray.
“i hope to see you again, yn.” he murmured, back facing you as you stayed quiet, not wanting to entertain the idea of him leaving. sadly, it doesn’t matter if you entertain said idea or not, it’s happening anyway.
the moment you stepped out the door, that was it, even the hope of ever seeing him again started to dissipate.
by this point you were halfway down the dim hallway, ready to turn the corner back to the servant’s quarters. you looked back, guards standing proud and tall outside the prince’s room. you bit your lip, gazing down at the cold tray in your hands, caressing it with your index finger.
after taking a deep breath and preparing yourself for a life without your first love, you walk off, never to hear from zuko again.
✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦
“fucking hell!” zuko groaned as the memory made an unwanted visit for the nth time this week, standing from his cot like bed. he looked outside the small ship window, eyes landing on an endless ocean, stretching far and wide, separating him from you.
it’s been 3 years since zuko had the pleasure of laying eyes upon you. your pouty lips - which he longed to kiss - sparkling eyes, and beaming smile, he missed it all; every single second of it.
he made it his mission to capture the avatar, whatever it took, zuko will bring him before his father and finally get to feel your embrace again.
the fact that he didn’t seize the opportunity to confess, to tell you just how much he loves you - vocalize the burning desire to make you his partner - was eating at him from the inside out.
zuko paces around the room, breathing heavily as he grows anxious. his patience is running thin and he doesn’t know how much longer he can stay civil.
with three curt knocks zuko turns, uttering a ‘come in’ as his mind was somewhere else. a soldier walks in, with a small bow of his head, he exclaims, “we’ve found the avatar, sir!” this made zuko’s face brighten, nails no longer trapped between teeth.
“where?” the prince breathed, unspoken urgency in his voice. “here in the south pole, sir.” he raised a brow, “how far?” “close by, approximately 2 nautical miles.” despite his shocked expression, zuko was elated.
“good job.” was all zuko said before strolling out his suffocating room. his palms grew sweaty, his heart hammered against his chest. he simply couldn’t contain himself.
he will see you again.
oh, he’s just imagining it; walking up behind you and surprising you, indulging in your warm laugh, welcoming eyes, and safe presence.
this is something he simply won’t - can’t - pass. zuko has the target within reach and he’s going to hold on tight, so tight the avatar will have no choice but to turn himself in.
a way one ticket, an opportunity peeking its face through the blur that is his life.
no matter the circumstance, he will not miss or give up - no, he’s coming home to you, forever this time.

Fire Queen
Series Masterlist
Zuko x OC
The Test of The Unknown
~
Zoir has been missing ever since we left for food that night. Aang never even saw her leave. Everything she had with her was gone. All I can hope is she's safe wherever she is. We spent two days looking for her, soaring through the sky and trimming the ground. No sign of my young friend. She couldn't have gone far. The time pin only allows her to venture alongside me as I bend the timeline, she is unable to bend the time herself, being a non-bender and especially not my blood relative. She's either close or...
No! I refuse to accept that.
"I think I see a cave below. Can we stop and look?" I call out. Aang looks over his shoulder, they all have eyes on me, noticing this is the first thing I've said in a day. "Yeah. Let's take a look." We land and I rush into the cave. "Zori?" I call out once more but only hear the echo of my voice against the rocks. "She's not here," Toph says, putting a hand on my shoulder.
Sokka slings his arm around me. "You picked a good place regardless. We'll find her. If she hasn't been here yet she will. She knows this is how we'll be living until the invasion begins. Hiding in cave after cave...after cave...after cave... His head drops further to his chest with each repetition of the word.
I move from his arm and sit on a rock. "This sucks."
"We don't need to become cave people. What we need are some new clothes." Katara suggested as she looked over the noticeable outfits.
"Yeah, blending in is better than hiding out. If we get Fire Nation disguises, we'll be just as safe as we would be hiding in a cave."
"Plus...they have real food out there. Does anyone wanna sit in the dirt and eat cave-hoppers?" She punches the cave wall and several hoppers hop out. Momo catches one and begins chowing down. I narrow my lips in disgust. Momo just eyes me and continues chomping. "I vote for new clothes." I raise my hand and walk out.
Several items of clothing are hung on lines outdoors, suspended over steam vents. We five sit, hiding in some rocks close by, surveying the scene. Aang shakes his head. "I don't know about this. These clothes belong to somebody." I smile spotting a dark red dress with simple accents of flowers. I hop up sprinting for it, also getting an outfit for Toph. "Mine and Toph's!" I snatched them from the line, running away.
"I call the silk robe!" Katara shouts as she leaps from the rocks, runs to her prize, and snatches it from the line.
Sokka and Aang snatch their clothes and run towards us. "Here Toph I got these." She takes them out of my hand smiling. "My favorite color! How'd ya know, Princess?" I smirk at her humor. "Lucky guess."
Aang turns around to us presenting his new style. "Ta-dah! Normal kid."
"Hmm...I should probably wear shoes, but then I won't be able to see as well. Sorry shoes!" Sitting down, she brings her knee up to her chest, pulling on the shoe's upper and popping out the sole with her foot, which propels it into Sokka's face. She stands up and evaluates her new customized footwear. "Snazzy."  "I know right? Finally, a stylish shoe for the blind earthbender."
~
Later into the late hours, Aang has yet to return to the cave. "This isn't good. This group is disappearing one by one!" Sokka calls out. "He might've found Zori." I bite my lip in hope.
As if on cue Aang slides down the roof of the cave and walks in. Katara rushes to him in a hug. "Where have you been? We've been worried sick!"
"I got invited to play with some kids after school." "After what?" Sokka shrieks. Aang smiles and shrugs, "I enrolled in a Fire Nation school, and I'm going back tomorrow."
"Enrolled in what?!"
~
-Zuko-
I walked towards the prison again, my hood pulled over my head. I neared the guard without acknowledgment. "You again? Stop where you are." I  raise my head, revealing myself, with a glare. "Prince Zuko?!" I grab him by the collar and slam him against the wall. "I'm going in for a visit. You're gonna stand guard here, and no one is going to know about this." I demand in a sinister tone. I walk past him into my uncle's cell. He's unkempt dressed in rags, and seated cross-legged on a mat, facing the wall. "Uncle. It's me." I remove my hood. Iroh turns away to face the back of his cell, scowling.
I feel fire ignited with my anger. How dare he turn away. "You brought this on yourself, you know. We could have returned together. You could have been a hero!" Iroh turns a shade further away from the bars, from me. "You have no right to judge me, Uncle. I did what I had to do in Ba Sing Se, and you're a fool for not joining me." I push farther. He should be sorry. Saying how regretful he is of the cell. "You're not gonna say anything?" I kick a stool and blast fire at the wall. "Argh! You're a crazy old man! You're crazy, and if you weren't in jail, you'd be sleeping in a gutter!" I leave the room, slamming the door behind me.
I enter my room throwing my robes to the floor, feeling restricted, feeling a rush of anger. "Arghhh!" I yell balling up my fists. "Calm down." A small voice speaks. Zori stands rubbing her little eyes. "You woke me up." I let out a huff. "I'm not in the mood." I fire back. "I'm not either!"
I walk to my balcony looking off into the world. What a waste of a world without her. Without Truble. "I miss her too." I pivot glaring at Zori. "Stay out of my head." "Can't. You're loud." She hauls herself on the railing, balancing almost as well as Azula.
"Can I ask you a question?"
"I don't think I have a choice in the matter." She smiles and continues. "What would you do differently?" I look at my feet playing it over and over again. I could have saved her. "You know what I would've done." I spit out sharply. "I don't. I wasn't there." Zori shrugs. "I would've saved her," I whisper feeling the tears fall down my cheeks. Zori kicks her feet. "Or you can make sure her death wasn't in vain." "How? Azula..." Zori shakes her head. "Join the Avatar. End this war. Her life wasn't for nothing." She walks back in leaving me alone.
She's right...
The thought has been pickling in my mind since my arrival. Everything Truble has had to work for is just a whisper in the wind and will fade into an empty gale. No. I will make sure she lives on.
~
"You think they'll be back soon?" I ask as I line up the sword to just below my collarbones. "I'm not sure, princess. Scared they'll talk you out of this?" "No." I swiftly cut the strands of hair letting them fall to the ground. "You look good," Toph says with a smirk.
I cut the other side and look at the bundle of hair on the floor. "That's almost more than you buddy." I pat Appa playfully.
"That settles it. No more school for you young man!" I hear Sokka exclaim as he, Aang, and Katara stroll in. Aang hangs his head low. Sokka straightens up and strokes his fake beard imperiously.
"I'm not ready to leave. I'm having fun for once, just being a normal kid. You don't know what it's like, Sokka. You get to be normal all the time. Listen, guys, those kids at school are the future of the Fire Nation. If we wanna change this place for the better, we need to show them a little taste of freedom." I smile at Aang. "I like your spirit, Aang, but you also need to remember what we are here to do. Plus everyone thinks you're dead. I mean what could you possibly do for a country of depraved little fire monsters?" I ask laughing and crossing my arms.
"I'm gonna throw them..." He does a quick tap dance flourish around the cave. "...a secret dance party!" I cover my mouth stifling my laugh. Sokka stops his foot and points away from him. "Go to your room!"
~
The musky walls and the scent of nothing but drenched rocks coat the surroundings. I kneel in front of Uncle's cell. "I brought you some Komodo chicken. I know you don't care for it, but I figure it beats prison food." Uncle is silent, his back to me. "I admit it. I have everything I always wanted, but it's not at all how I thought it would be. The truth is, I need your advice. I think the Avatar is still alive. I know he's out there. I'm losing my mind. Please, Uncle, I'm so confused! I need your help." I clench my fists against the bars, but Uncle stares at the wall. Only if Truble was here...
I throw my hands down, standing up in rage. "Forget it! I'll solve this myself! Waste away here for all I care!" I walk to the door and open it, turning back for just a moment, and then quickly slam the door. How could he sit there saying nothing? Not one word of wisdom from the damn man?
I make my way into a seedy industrial quarter somewhere in the Fire Nation. Smokestacks cloud the night sky. Small yard bisected by railroad tracks. I venture off in a hood walking into the middle of the yard. "You're sure you weren't followed?" I nod dropping my hood. "I've heard about you. They say you're good at what you do. And even better at keeping secrets. The Avatar's alive. I want you to find him. And end him."
~
I blast fire against the rock blackening the sandstones and crisping the grass around it. "You're mad." I turn to the voice and place it as Sokka. "Why do you say that?" I throw another set of fireballs towards the trees, crisping the very edges. "Because you're bending at night. You don't sleep when you're mad." "I'm not mad!" "Yeah, you are." Sokka smirks.
I throw my hands down frowning. "I'm not mad... I-I'm sad, Sokka." I drop to my knees letting my head fall. "Sad, and tired." Sokka leans down and hugs me to him. "She's out there. Fighting her little ass off." "This is all Zuko's fault," I mumble poking at the ground for a distraction. "Yeah. It is." Sokka agrees as we sit together.

"Why do I even have to go? Can't I just hang out in your room?" I look down at Zori with surprise. "Like I'm going to leave you alone." She crosses her arms and throws her bag over her shoulder. "Fine." She huffs and runs after Ty Lee.
"You've caught a soft spot for her," Azula smirks pinching my cheek. "You killed her sister. She had nowhere to go." Azula shrugs. "If you say so, brother. I'm having fun being Auntie Auzl."
"Doesn't your family have a house on Ember Island?" Zori asks propping her elbows on the side of the ship. Azula turns to her with an innocent glace. "We used to come every summer when we were kids." Zori smiles. "That sounds like fun. My parents take us on vacation a lot. Mom says Dad never gets a break." I furrow my brow. "Truble said you two never had anything as a child." Zuri shrugs. "She didn't." She walks away with the girls leaving me in confusion. Did I know Truble has a different story to tell? Yes, she is a time bender for Roku's sake, but how would Truble have grown up living like hell and Zuri lived a cushy childhood with vacation homes?
The Fire Nation Boat enters the radius, moving toward this dock. Li and Lo are waiting in the foreground to greet us. "Welcome to Ember Island, kids." Zuri smiles widely as I frown and cross my arms. This sucks.
We enter a small shabby beach cottage. Everything is pink and green and smells. "It smells like old lady in here," I mumble looking around. Mai rolls her eyes. "Gee, I wonder why." I shoot her a glare as Zuri does the same.
"We know you're upset that you were forced to come here this weekend. But Ember Island is a magical place."  "Keep an open mind." "Give it a chance." "and it can help you understand yourselves and each other." I stare at them as their speech ends and walk away to my room. I flop on the bed huffing. "You look bony." Zuri pokes my ribs. "Have you eaten?" "No." "You should." "Go to your room." "This is my room!" Zuir agues back but cuddles next to me.
"She would want you to take care of yourself, Zuko." I stare up at the ceiling. "She's not your sister. You slipped up earlier, and I caught you." Zuri smirks. "You think I can slip up? You're thinking about it all wrong, Zuko. It's simple really." She walks out laughing.
This child is something else.

Team Avatar and I sit on the rocks next to the water, swimming, tanning, and having a good time. I watch Aang and Katara bend water and create shapes. "Aang, I know swimming is fun and all, but do you think you should be exposing yourself like that... Cover up!" Aang stays floating through the water, Momo curled up on his chest. "What? I'm wearing trunks." "She means your tattoos, Avatar." I laugh pulling my hair off my neck.
"There are walls all around us. It's completely safe." Katara says jumping in. "Katara being carefree? I never thought I would see this day." I swim near Aang and snatch Momo, making him shriek in play. Momo suddenly perks up and I turn to notice something ahead, a rapid mixture of tunnels. I watched Aang dive into one before anyone could tell him no.

I pick up a shell on the sand and pass it over to Mai. Best fallback I have. If I am to be Fire Lord. I will require a queen for some time. Mai is the best option, with her father in the military position he has. If not by choice then we will be bound by law. No, say in my life.
I pass the shell to her with a small smile. "Here... This is for you." She looks down at the shell with a distasteful look. "Why would I want that?" I look down at the shell confused. Truble would have loved it. "I saw it and I thought it was pretty. Don't girls like stuff like this?" Mai turns away hiding a smirk. "Maybe stupid girls." I toss the shell in anger. "Forget it!"

"Hey, beach bums, we're playing next," Azula tells the Fire Nation teens at the volleyball court. Gathering around in a huddle Azula takes the position as the leader.
"See that girl with the silly pigtails? When she runs towards the ball, there's just the slightest hesitation of her left foot. I'm willing to bet a childhood injury has weakened her." "You're getting all that by just watching how she walks?" Zuri laughs at the knowledge.
Azula nudges her away from the group. "Keep score little rat."
"Now listen to me. Keep serving the ball to her left and we'll destroy her, and the rest of her team. Dismissed!"
Azula throws the ball up toward the sun and then launches it toward the other team, who miss it completely. I slide for the ball and kick it up into the air. Azula runs toward it, spins around, and smacks it toward the pig-tailed girl. The pig-tailed girl dives but misses the ball completely. The ball flies over a crowd of Fire Nation teens and lands next to two Fire Nation Teen boys, who now notice the game. Ty Lee zooms through the air toward the ball. She kicks it and then lands like a tight ropewalker on the net. Mai runs toward the ball and hits it with her knee. Azula runs up my back, propelling herself into the air, and kicking the ball with all her power. The ball zooms toward the ground catching flame. The ball lands in a fiery explosion, setting fire to the net.
"Yes, we defeated you for all time! You will never rise from the ashes of your shame and humiliation!" Azula laughs dramatically with evil intent. She casually turns to us with a small smile. "Well, that was fun."

At the Fire Nation party, all I do is sit on the bench with Mai, watching Zuir run around the house. Truble wouldn't want her here. Some people could hurt her. She's just a kid.
Mai groans from beside me. "Stop worrying about the kid. You're acting like her dad. It's annoying." I turn my head to her sharply. "It is not, and I'm not! She's just someone who needs me right now. She has no one else."
Another ten minutes go by and several more sighs from Mai later she speaks. " I'm bored."
" I know." I continue to watch Zuri play around.
"I'm hungry." "So what?" "So, find me some food." I stare at the ground and huff. "Sure." I get up walk to the table with snacks and start gathering things for the cranky Mai.
I turn my head to see a younger boy talking to Zuri, too close. I set the plate down and rush over to them. I grab the back of his shirt and pull him backward. "What are you doing?" He asks in shock. "Don't talk to her." I poke his chest.
Ruon Jian stands up and walks over to me pushing me back slightly. "Watch it, man. He wasn't doing anything to your sister. Chill, hot head."
Hot head... Truble called me that sometimes.
I clench my fists and glare at him. "Are we having an issue here? Hmm?" He leans into my space with a glare. "Get out." I huff pushing past them. "Gladly."
I walk down to the shore sitting on the sand. I stare up towards the sky looking at the stars. I trail my hand down the golden chain to the coin hanging. "My Truble. I am so sorry." I feel a tear slip over my cheek, letting it fall to the sand below. This is the life I thought I wanted, the one I deserved. I know now this is hell from where I was. From spending each day encaptured in her laughter of glee. These flames of fire are holding me from saving her.
I look down at the coin and run my fingers over the emblem. "I will save you."
