my favourite thing about chuuya nakahara is that he's just kind of. chill. about everything. he's like, my tragic backstory has no hold on me, i went to therapy and i'm all good now. i'm a bad guy cuz it pays good and my found family happens to be here. what do you mean that's not a good reason, you a cop or something?
someone will betray him and he'll go ok well that's pretty upsetting. they probably had a good reason though. i'll forgive them if they let me get a good punch in. if they're really just a hater they're giving me bad vibes and i don't wanna deal with 'em at all tbh.
things have been done to him that would warrant a lifelong crusade of revenge for anyone else, but for chuuya nakahara it's just, that was super not cool but i'll let it slide if you get therapy with me.
chuuya is down for any crime and thinks moral boundaries are for losers and stuff but he's the nicest guy in the port mafia when it comes to not mistreating his subordinates and probably helps old ladies cross the street. he shows up for a solid 10-20 minutes of screentime per season and makes all the fans fall in love with him while doing the bare minimum, and despite technically being a villain i don't think he's worked against the agency a single time (although to be fair this is often not on purpose). he also does the bare minimum every time he's asked to help in-universe and clearly isn't even trying, and he sweeps anyway because he is ridiculously overpowered and could probably kill literally everyone if he actually wanted to, and i just. no one is doing it like him. you go you unbothered king.

Ben’s new design is so funny, mainly because of all the jokes about his height.
But like have you seen his dog (ankylosaurus)? I would also be a big, beefy boy If I was taking care of a “dog” (and any of the other dinosaurs) for the past 6-7 years that ranged in weight of 4.8 to 8 metric tons.
(First time trying to draw Ben not great lol but I’ll get the hang of it)

random thought bc I've been listening to Six on repeat: the queens claim that the only reason they're remembered is because of Henry, but would Henry be one of the most iconic and well-known English monarchs if not for them?

"Mano po."
Pagmamano (Tagalog) - "honouring-gesture;" a sign of respect towards elders
A continuation of sorts, of this other drawing I made of the Feänorians, which was roughly inspired by Filipino culture. I originally planned on completing this for @nolofinweanweek, specifically the first prompt about how Fingolfin and Feänor's families got along, but life got in the way and I didn't finish it in time. More background/my long rambles under the cut:
Pagmamano - touching the back of an elder's hand on one's forehead - is not restricted to family, but it's usually done in the context of elder family members. I have many memories of attending family reunions and being told to follow the other kids to "mano po" a grandfather, aunt, or uncle. While Elves don't have elderly relatives, per se, I thought this image was too fun not to draw. Also, I love envisioning Feänor as that cool uncle who gives the most amazing gifts but like, the kids are intimidated by him, so they have to be told (and supervised) by their parents to line up and greet him properly. Fingolfin's just standing there making sure his kids all greet their uncle. (Maedhros, presumably having already finished his greetings, is sidetracking Fingon.)
All this to say, I think that these guys didn't have the perfect relationship. But. You can't convince me Finwë didn't get the whole family together from time to time on some sort of family reunion camping trip. And Feänor just has to begrudgingly tolerate it because he can't say no to his dad. While the kids, obviously, have a great time.

okay I’ve seen a lot of posts about sterling just being crowley and. guys. the implications just hear me out 😭😭😭
bending lore slightly here BUT let’s say crowley’s body was once inhabited by a human and crowley is possessing the body (maybe he kills the initial inhabitant bc he doesn’t care)
but he still has the guy’s memories. he doesn’t bother keeping up appearances with his ‘ex wife’ because he is too busy building up his hell empire. BUT for some reason he can’t quite identify, he still feels something towards his ‘daughter’. he lets the divorce happen and doesn’t feel the need (or desire) to fight for custody, but he can never quite forget her, to cast her out of his mind for good
some hijinks ensue with the leverage team. it’s mostly because even a grind culture demon wants some off time every once in a while, and for him the insurance investigator stuff is more of a hobby. interacting with the leverage crew is very low stakes for him, and honestly, quite amusing. they aren’t on his level power-wise, but that ford character gives him the mental exercise he hasn’t experienced in, well, he can’t even remember
he can feel their frustration and anger when they learn he has become employed by interpol and feeds off it. it’s great, and relaxing in a way he is never able to achieve while conducting hell-related business
one year he gets wind that olivia is in a really bad situation associated with his ‘ex wife’s’ new husband. he’s selling vital hardware to terrorists, and while that might actually be the kind of chaos he would normally support or be entertained by as the king of hell, something feels wrong about letting olivia stay anywhere near that man
he calls upon the body’s adversaries. he wouldn’t admit it, even under duress, BUT he feels slightly fond of them. nate for the three dimensional chess they play, sophie for her ability to charm and disguise, parker for her chaos and slightly unsettling nature (it’s the autism swag and being bad with human interaction but he doesn’t know that lol), hardison for his unapologetic intelligence and eliot for his hardened violent past and take-no-shit persona (he’s fun to tease)
they perform exactly as he expected, right into his carefully crafted plan. and then olivia is under his care and things get more complicated. he keeps her FAR, FAR away from anything related to the supernatural (heh). no one can find out about her, ESPECIALLY not those imbecile hunter brothers (if for nothing else than the embarrassment in revealing he has a weak spot)
not sure how to work it into this post but I also want to add that somewhere along the way he develops feelings for nate and sophie. the frame up job is near and dear to my heart and you can’t convince me that isn’t fighting as flirting behavior. his interpol persona is more of a side hustle so to speak, but he finds it fun (relaxing, even) to fill that role. there aren’t any obligations of other demons, bothersome hunters, or anything like that. nate and sophie are low stakes, except, they aren’t, really. they make him feel things he can’t ever really remember feeling. his heart beats fast when sophie sat in his lap and cradled his face, his hands sweat when nate gives him that certain smug look. he’s exasperated by the way they can run circles around him like no one else has ever before. they annoy him and get under his skin in a way no one else can and it’s infuriating. but also not, at the same time. maybe he likes it
and then the long goodbye job happens
hear me out and suspend your belief here for a second, because I can’t remember if crowley supernaturally knows when ppl die/are dead or not.
so nate is in interpol custody and the interviewer is obviously out of her depth. (most people are, when it comes to nathan ford.) he walks in and pours the man a drink, but he’s fuming. somewhere along the way he came to care about the team. hell and suffering is literally in his (official) job description, but he can admit (only to himself) that he admires what they do. it’s not for him, not anything close to where his passions and interests lie, but he respects their drive and purpose. he is also aware enough to acknowledge that they are a family, a group of misfits that never belonged quite anywhere except to each other.
and nate fucking blew it up, ruined it, because his vice is being so obsessed with the end game that he is apparently willing to let his team, his family, the people that anchor him to reality, die because the ends supposedly justify the means.
not this time. not to sterling crowley
he is enraged. he can admit within the confines of his mind that he cares for nate, for sophie, even for the other three (though nate and sophie have somehow made it a hierarchy where they are more important to him. which he will dissect later in private. maybe.)
nate let them die, he let sophie die, and for what? the black book? hell below, crowley would have made things easier somehow, if he knew that this was where nate’s sights had lied. he would have prevented this somehow. he wants to have prevented this. he doesn’t want any of them dead and is too afraid to check and verify because that would make it real. the idea of sophie (or any of them) somehow making it to hell instead of heaven would probably break something in him he might not be able to repare fully.
he yells at nate- he’s angry. hellfire burning in his heart because everything is ruined. the deaths aside (however hard it is to set them aside in his mind), nate will not recover from this, not ever. this will be the start of the end, he is sure. a miserable, guilt-ridden existence where he drinks himself to death and nothing will save him. it plays out in crowley’s mind in a thousand different ways that are beyond painful to conceptualize, even in theory.
the story starts to unravel and there is a game afoot. a solemn, miserable, infuriating game because the con is still in session because parker is alive and in the building- which sets another fire alight in his chest. ‘parker even know you got hardison killed?’ he rages for her grief when she finds out. he knows it will double when she finds out eliot has perished, too, because he isn’t fucking blind.
but nate is a brilliant man, lest he forget too quickly. they are all alive, and somehow still the entire crew slips through his fingers. he’s not even angry (he never would have been- he doesn’t actually try too hard to catch them. it’s about the game, not the consequences). he lets them keep the black book because he’s fucking exhausted and honestly, they more than earned it.
‘now we’re even. tell sophie to drive carefully’. they will never be even, not really. crowley would never admit or agree that being human is the superior state of being, but that have made him feel human in a way he doesn’t actually mind. they keep him on his toes and match him in a way unique to them, they remind him that there are other things than the realm of hell. not necessarily bigger than hell, but maybe just as important in a different sense.
watching the van drive away, something inside him settles. when he walked into the interrogation room that day he thought this was the beginning of the end. it’s not the end at all, not an end to anything. it’s a continuation of their story. maybe, he thinks, a beginning to a new era in it

I feel like at some point in the Familiar AU, someone (Ford? Secret Flirtagent who's made it his personal mission to ""rescue"" Dipper from Bill after nearly getting murdered?) snoops through Dipper's magic cellohone for clues on how to destroy Cipher. And this really is 70% of their texts.
Obviously Bill would have made it so if anyone besides he or Dipper tries to use the phone, they get a nasty surprise, but still.
(Thanks as always for the amazing writing!)

There is absolutely supposed to be a mini comic that comes with this but, like, to be real with you, that's probably not gonna happen within the week- SO instead I'll post the designs for said comic and the premise.
It goes something along the lines of Leo and Takumi being patron demigods for Hoshido and Nohr respectively, along with their siblings. But while fulfilling tasks on Earth, faceless begin ravaging Hoshido. Naturally, Takumi suspects Leo, both because he's Leo and because Leo is the only known demigod able to summon faceless. But in a fight, Leo proves to be unable to control these monsters, proving that they are not of his creation. The two come to the conclusion that someone is attempting to instigate a war, and they have to stop it. Of course ♡.

What do you think of Romano's inferiority complex towards Feliciano, and I'm pretty sure you're Italian, so would you say that's accurate to how Southern Italians really feel towards the North?
I wouldn't call it an inferiority complex, but probably due to the centuries it spent split into different kingdoms and republics, Italy as a whole has a pretty strong localism, especially in smaller villages and rural areas, but also among the less educated people and older generations in general. Differences in habits, culture and traditions are still easy to spot too due to the aforementioned long centuries where each part of the Country was subject to slightly or highly different influences and history in every aspect of people's life.
The unification of Italy was led by the House of Savoy, which was the royal family originally ruling on a North-Western area of the peninsula for centuries and whose kings were then crowned kings of Italy starting from 1861. Industrialization, which then-unified Italy was already late to, was encouraged and financed in the Northern half of the Country, whereas the Southern half was neglected and its economy kept focusing mostly on agriculture for a long time. This caused a persistence of poverty and a lower percentage of literacy compared to the North, which was getting more economically competitive and thus wealthier on average.
To make it worse, Southerners who started migrating to the North (especially after WW2) to get a better job and give their family a better life and future, were often faced with racism and prejudice by Northerners.
This whole situation, the whole gap between the two halves of the Country that was caused primarily by how the Savoy neglected the industrial development of the South, would be dragged for so long that nowadays Italy still hasn't evened out these differences and they simply led to other issues for both halves.
Tumblr media
This double standard also led to both halves developing their own secessionist movements, as Northern secessionists lamented how Northern industry (and thus, economy) had to "drag" the South and how migration from South to North would in their opinion deteriorate their own working possibilities; and Southern secessionists lamented how Italy favoured/favours the North which caused poverty, corruption and stagnation of the labor market to thrive. Especially among poorly educated older generations, it is not that uncommon to still come across prejudice and a bit of racism going back and forth between the two halves of the Country.

As for Hetalia lore itself...
Hima portrayed the unification of Italy in a very straightforward and, in my opinion, quite accurate way, true both to Feli and Romano's relationship and at least partially to history, with Garibaldi (the most important Italian general and revolutionary) basically bursting into Romano's house and go "HEY YOU'RE GETTING UNIFIED!" while barely listening or caring about the brothers' opinion on it, and without Romano even having any real involvement in the process.
Tumblr media
I can imagine Feli having had, however, a little more agency in it (though as the picture above shows, he might not have been super happy about unification, and we know Personifications don't really get a choice but comply to their bosses' orders) as he was, among other things, also the embodiment of the land the Kingdom of Savoy was based in. He was definitely treated with more privilege by the Savoy, heck, he was even picked to be the one getting the honor of being called Italy and deal with foreign politics and such, something that Romano has been shown to resent.
Feli is also seen being the brother getting to try his hands at industrialization the most and getting really good at the production of stuff like cars, which furtherly solidifies how the Italian Kingdom seemed to show a preference to one brother compared to the other.
Tumblr media
Romano sounds like he feels pretty left out and neglected, and his pre-existing inferiority complex and frustration towards Feli was therefore fed even more.
I feel like I'm digressing a lot though, sorry! 😅
🌸 Big thing I should've mentioned earlier about my own interpretation of Hetalia!! I do not see Hetalia characters as walking stereotypes or necessarily accurate representations of the way their average citizen thinks or acts like.
Because of this, the question for me is not much if Romano's inferiority complex makes sense in the light of the relationship between irl Southerners and Northerners, but rather if historically are there any reasons why it'd make sense for this piece of land to resent another based on geopolitical and/or economic events.
And, in this sense, yes I absolutely think it makes sense, because the South definitely got the shorter end of the stick when it came to Unification, and Romano as a person already felt inferior to Feliciano due to how both Grandpa Rome and Roderich preferred his brother over him. Antonio also initially tried to trade Romano with Feli because he felt like Roderich had scammed him by giving him the 'lazy, high-maintenance' brother. Romano was basically always picked as the second choice anytime someone had to choose between Feli and him, and when he maybe thought he could finally be treated as an equal to his brother through unification, as they are both Italy, his hope was crushed right away once again.
