Arthur crossed his arms. “You know what I want.”
“Yes, I do.” Sansa gave him a flat look. “You want to be insufferable and domineering. Like all dominant men.”
He arched an eyebrow at her. “I’m not like all ‘dominant men’, my lady. I’m an Alpha.”
Sansa rolled her eyes. “And it took you only five minutes to point that out. Lovely.”
“It’s in my nature.”
“It is.” She agreed way too easily. “Which is why we cannot pretend this is anything but temporary insanity.”
“Why?” Arthur pressed.
“We’re both Alphas, Arthur. This is unheard of.”
“Stop avoiding the word.” Arthur growled at her. “Say the words. What is unheard of?”
“Do not show your teeth at me.” Her eyes went wolf.
“Say the words, Sansa.” He pushed. “What is that we can’t do?”
“We cannot be together. At all.”

One thing I do love about high stakes paranormal romances is that you typically do get to see old couples with an HEA come back, and while you know their HEA will last (this is why I always scoff at IAD readers who feel like "someone" has to die in the ultimate endgame... they don't.... lol at least not permanently; you can kill randoms, but you can't kill romance couples) you get to see them imperiled a little? And the Drama?
Like:
--in Kristen Callihan's Soulbound, we have an existential threat to the hero, which in turn creates an existential threat for all the supernatural creatures he's "sired", including two!!! Former heroines. Whose heroes subsequently get to cradle their prone forms (in the case of Jack and Mary of Shadowdance) or basically burn the house down in a case of werewolfy insanity (Ian and Daisy of Moonglow, one of my favorite romance couples of all time, who only got better through him literally growling over her prone form, I swooned).
--in Kresley Cole's Lothaire, when Mariketa of Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night (a book that was 8! installments prior) attempts to reach through a mirror and rescue/kidnap Ellie, only for Lothaire's Contractually Obligated Friend to cut her hand off (it grows back it's fine). Kresley just writes that Ellie hears a "beastly roar", but if you've read all the previous books, you know that's Bowen, Mariketa's husband/beast familiar werewolf man, who is VERY UPSET.
--and on a flip side, in Kresley's Sweet Ruin a few books later, you see Lothaire being very typically flippant about a Big Danger he's been called to help with, and Ellie isn't even named; but if you're a series reader, you understand exactly how the mood shifts when he snaps to the "female vampire" next to him to get the hell out of dodge IMMEDIATELY
(Kresley does not elaborate if she does, and it's Ellie, so I assume she Does Not)
This is also a benefit of being a series reader, of course; and I'll never be over the pure geeky joy of seeing two people I watched fall in love and be stupid for 400 pages come back to be in love and stupid on the sidelines, sometimes with MORTAL DANGER.

Series on AO3
Psy-Changeling
Prompt: Any, any, outsider POV wildly misunderstanding what they're seeing - Judd Lauren & Hawke Snow
“Is this exercise teaching them tracking or fighting or are they learning something more specific to wolves?” Judd asked the alpha standing next to him as they watched a group of young wolf changelings run around in a fenced in outdoor area.
Out of the corner of his eye he saw Hawke turn his head and fix those strange wolf eyes on him, before saying, “They’re just playing for fun, not training,” in a voice that said he wouldn’t remark on how that’s something he feels Judd should already know.
Judd doesn’t tell him that the fact he temporarily forgot something he learned from Arrow training materials about changeling weaknesses is actually a sign of how much living with the SnowDancer pack is changing him.
Teen Wolf
Prompt: any, any, feral - Stiles/Derek
“You’d think, out of the two of you, you’d have been the one who went feral,” Scott says thoughtfully as he watches Stiles try to bite a nearly hysterical Jackson while Lydia harangues him.
“I don’t think even the hunters could have predicted this being the result of mixing sex pollen and wolfsbane,” Derek says, watching Jackson decide to let Stiles bite him in hopes of saving his hair.
“Stiles, you should come home with me,” Derek calls across the clearing, knowing he could have stopped his mate at any time but no one could ever prove he’d let Stiles bite Jackson on purpose.
Prompt: Any, any, diffuse - Derek/Peter/Stiles
“Derek, man, you gotta help me, Peter gave me this oil diffuser thing and this schedule of when I’m supposed to use it and I think my roommate is going to request a room change because half the time it smells like weird herbs and shit and half the time it smells like man, which is disturbing, but mostly it just makes me seem incredibly creepy.”
“Stiles, I’m not getting in between you and Peter’s attempt to scent mark you while you’re at school and he can’t do it himself.
“Ugh, what are boyfriends for if not to protect their boyfriend from their other boyfriend, boyfriend—a word that no longer has meaning!”
Chosen One Universe
Prompt: any, any, gravitas - Eduard & Bebe
“I just feels it lacks a certain gravitas,” Eduard says, tugging at the hem of the denim jacket he considers so ugly he wonders if some of his mates are pulling a prank on him until he turns around and sees all eight of them staring at him in a distinctly horny fashion.
“OK, what is going on?”
Bebe, the chipper stylist, laughed and clapped his hands together before saying, “It makes your ass look fabulous and you’ve just put your mates through an entire day of clothes fittings—they’re hungry in more ways than one.”

I am back with the changeling-psy AUs!
If you don’t know the Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh, I highly recommend it. For those of you who don’t know it, I’ll add some basic information below ;)
The Psy are a race with various psychic abilities, such as telepathy and telekinesis. To control their psychic ability the Psy have conditioned all emotions out of themselves, this conditioning programme is known as Silence. Silence means that the Psy have a very low crime rate, but it also means that they do not know love or friendship.
Arrows are a secret and elite Psy squad whose original protocol was to protect Silence.
Changelings are able to change into a specific animal. There are predatory and non-predatory Changelings, depending on what animal they can shift into.
***
Arondir had been an Arrow for a long time. The Psy race hadn’t had many qualms about using kids with impressive powers as soldiers before, and Arondir has a very rare ability.
He’d gone on his first mission by the time he was 12.
Despite Silence and whatever some others might think, Arondir was conscious enough to know it wasn’t right. The way he’d been raised and ‘educated’ wasn’t how a child should be cared for. Not only for him, but for all the other children meant to be Arrows as well.
There was some great progress taking place now. Councilwoman Galadriel was actually trustworthy and she seemed to care.
Silence was falling apart.
Arondir shouldn’t be. He was strong, he was well trained and he knew that he needed Silence. He’d made the choice to remain Silent, even as many of his brothers and sisters chose to leave it behind.
He meant to stay Silent.
Until she entered the room.
Arondir couldn’t claim to never have felt emotion before. He’d felt a cold rage towards the higher ups that abused Arrows. However, he’d never felt an emotion that made him feel warm.
Not until his eyes found Alpha Sansa Stark.
Looking at her it was looking at the sun for some reason; she was light in the same way he felt like darkness very often. She was vibrant, full of life.
He couldn’t stop looking, even though he knew he should.
And then she’d talked to him and he’d wanted to hear more from her.
“I feel like we keep meeting, Arrow.”
“Arondir.”
She smirked at him. “I remember.”
“I sought you out.”
She arched an eyebrow. “That’s… Very direct of you.” She tilted her head sideways. “I wasn’t expecting that.”
“I don’t know why I did it.” He admitted.
She remained quiet for a moment, then smirked again. “I’ll be very interested in the answer when you figure it out.”

September & October 2022
How my reading went in September and October.
I know I say this, but November definitely crept up on me. After a wildly successful reading month in August I fell into a reading drought. I just honestly did not feel like reading at all, hence no post last month and the fact that I’m posting about September and October together. Sorry about that, but reading is like that for me. When I was posting more regularly I always used to try and have…

I always know the beginning and ending of a story arc. So for example, with the Psy-Changeling series, the beginning was Silence – a world where the Psy live lives devoid of emotion under the Protocol. The ending I foresaw [spoiler!] was the fall of Silence.
Knowing the beginning and the ending is what I need to keep me on track. I don’t usually write it down, but I must know it. Before I wrote Silver Silence, I spent a long, long time considering the next story arc.
I knew we needed a second arc, because the events at the end of the first arc brought up all kinds of questions – but I wasn’t about to write that second arc until I knew exactly where I was taking my readers. Because for me, the fun of a journey like in this series, is that there is a payoff. All the pieces of the jigsaw fit in the end, so that if you go back and reread, you’ll see the path laid out from book 1.
So I guess the short answer is that I plot out where we’re going, but how we get to that point? It’s organic. The breadcrumbs get laid organically. But because I know where we’re heading, I don’t tend to head off on tangents. Like a road that has lots of side roads, but I don’t turn off, because those don’t lead to my destination. That doesn’t mean those side roads are forgotten – rather, I explore them in novellas, short stories etc.
