My New Boss Is Goofy Episode 1 Review - When Your Boss Is Too Cute
My New Boss Is Goofy is not associated with Disney in any way; I’m sorry if you were actually expecting the real Goofy to show up. This anime is rather cute and comforting. This is actually one of my most anticipated watches for this season because I just needed some comfort in my life. It’s also the first time I am watching workplace comedy. While this looks to be BL, it’s actually a Josei manga.
Tumblr media
Anyways, the story is a bit basic. Kentaro Momose has changed jobs after his previous workplace was abusive. The previous workplace has caused him to have mental stress and chronic stomach pain. He’s also very guarded as a result, so his first day at work makes him very tense as he met his new boss. Shirosaki looked very stern but he’s actually very air-headed. He makes very careless mistakes outside of work and the way he reacts is so adorable that it eases Momose’s nerves and eventually becomes a source of comfort in his new work life.
Regardless of the story being basic, I love how the comedy of Shirosaki’s air-headed mishaps aren’t obnoxious or over-exaggerated. Instead, they’re very cute and not as repetitive as I expected. I was expecting the seeing similar mistakes, but the writer did a very good job making Shirosaki’s air-headedness charming. Some of his mistakes are also totally relatable because I’ve made similar mistakes in the past. The part where Shirosaki accidentally talked to the stranger when getting ice cream got to me like that awkward situation happened to me several times in the past.
Despite Shirosaki’s mistakes being the key focus for this show, I do like how it also gives insight to Momose as a character. He’s so anxious and timid due to work abuse from his previous job. It really hits home how bad abuse can be. Having a terrible boss really does kill the work mood. I felt so bad when he recalls the moment his boss ripped up one of his proposals to the point that he’s so anxious at the thought of them being brought up in the present. I know that these types of workplaces exist in Japan and outside. I hope that work tyranny ceases to be because bosses abusing their powers shouldn’t be a thing. I also hope that Momose can get the healing and confidence he needs at his new job.
Shirosaki is also shown to be more than an air-head. Despite his cute mistakes, he’s very insightful and is very considerate. He’s the one taking care of Momose as he takes him out to the aquarium and to the shopping district to show off the types of ads he had worked on in the past. He’s also the one encouraging Momose to try and write a proposal as he noticed how anxious he was when the topic was brought up. I’m sure everyone would want a boss like Shirosaki; I sure do!
I think Shirosaki’s attentiveness is thanks to Aoyama who seems to be as attentive towards him as Shirosaki is to Momose. I like Aoyama. I hope he shows up more. Given that he appears in the opening as one of the main characters, that is likely the case. I do really like how Aoyama cares so much about his workers. He popped a party popper to celebrate Shirosaki’s accomplishment and never mentioned his junior’s fish mistake for the past ten years.
The voice acting is great! If you’re familiar with Boeibu (Cute Earth Defense Club LOVE!), our four main leads are technically a Boeibu reunion! We have Kotaro Nishiyama and Yuichiro Umehara reunite as the main leads once again; they were Atsushi and En from Boeibu and Ryuichi and Kamitani from Gakuen Babysitters! I think this is the first time these two are together as adult leads since the previous two anime I mentioned revolve around high school students. Aoyama is voiced by Tomokazu Sugita who voiced Yumoto’s brother Gora. Sugita is normally known for his deep voice, but the fact that he’s using a softer, higher pitched voice for this character shows that he has range; there’s a reason why he’s such an amazing voice actor. The last of the main four has yet to be introduced, but he’s voiced by Jun Fukuyama who voiced Ibushi in Boeibu. I can’t wait to see the last guy and the cat!
The animation is all soft and I love the color choices! I usually associate A-1 with action-packed anime, so for them to animate a workplace comedy like this makes me wonder why they chose it. I’m sure the animators over there want to animate something cute once in a while, I bet. The music’s pretty decent too! The opening and endings are so cute!
I’ll be continuing on with this anime until the end. I enjoyed what I saw today! I can’t wait to see more of Shirosaki’s mistakes and freak out over how relatable they are with my own; maybe I’ll even reveal more embarrassing Ecargmura stories! I’ve got plenty of air-headed goof ups. Anyways, what are your thoughts about this anime’s premiere?

Ted Lasso 3x11 reaction
Things I LOVED in 3x11:
Pretty much everything about the way Roy, Keeley and Jamie interacted; the way they worried about him and tried to be there for him and it just felt so solid and real, and like I could see how they would all function in a relationship together. Truly a gift
Roy in general was delightful. This has saved his arc for me. Still a bit tell not show, but he’s clearly now at a place where he has accepted he deserves good things and those good things are Keeley and Jamie (in whatever way you would like to read that)
The comedy between these three was fantastic as well
GEORGIE TARTT! I love her, I love her and Jamie’s relationship. I will not have any criticisms and will defend her and Jamie’s right to cuddle each other to the death.
Pep!! He was there! He hugged Jamie! This is all I care about! (They also had him say that he doesn’t care about the wins and losses! That’s ridiculous! I don’t even follow football and I know that it is ridiculous to have PEP GUARDIOLA say this!)
Things I am neutral/unsure about
I am sorry. I am a bit bored of Ted this season. I think he was one of the characters I was most invested in following season 2, but now… IDK. I thought the confrontation with his mother was well done, and I liked the ending but… I don’t know whether it felt as impactful as it could have
Nate coming back to Richmond, especially how it came about, was weird. No, it doesn’t make sense that the players are asking for him back, no, it doesn’t make sense that they would have any say in it. Also, I think I support Nate maybe figuring out what he wants to do without being pushed once again into football coaching. Maybe he would have been able to do that if people had let him keep being a waiter
Beard’s forgiveness of Nate – I LOVED the Les Mis story, don’t get me wrong and Brendan Hunt can really bring it on his delivery of these longer emotional speeches. But I don’t actually think it felt… right. Like, we know that Nate feels sorry for the press leak. WE know that Nate has written a 60 page apology, but Beard doesn’t, really. It’s never been properly addressed. And I kind of think that the writers want us to focus on Nate ripping the sign and shouting at Ted rather than the actual awful thing that he did. I just can’t quite see why Beard would forgive Nate (outside of radical forgiveness, which is… yeah, I don’t like it) without at least an acknowledgement of that. I also… don’t think he should have to. Or, he should let go of his anger, but that doesn’t have to lead to Nate working with him again.
Things I HATED:
Number one is obviously the radical forgiveness of James Tartt (I have already posted at length about this here and it makes me very angry so let’s leave it there)
Yeah. Boot room scene. Sorry. Bits were great. The implied intimacy. Roy. But the extent to which it was played to the audience for laughs was… awful and really uncomfortable. They do not do this with any other character’s trauma/emotional responses. It’s not OK.
The whole Man City game sequence didn’t quite work me. So: Jamie’s being booed by the Man City fans, which is… OK – but they have played them twice since he’s left and we have not seen this level of personal vitriol towards him. When I saw the trailer for this moment, I definitely thought he was getting some kind of negative press attention. So I don’t quite get this. Like, I know they’re at home and there would be more of them but…
The Man City players repeatedly fouling Jamie – putting aside the fact that none of these were caught by referees, in the game at Wembley there is a shot of one of the City players hugging Jamie and a general sense that, actually, he was quite well-liked. Now, this is football. Maybe they’re all different players now. But surely they’re not trying to say that Pep would create this kind of environment where the players would target a former player who was getting targeted by fans? I thought it would have been really nice to see support from the City players but not necessarily from the fans. Because I do think that City was a positive environment for Jamie, which they kind of try to imply with the scene with Pep, but have dramatically undercut it here
Did Ted Lasso emotionally manipulate a player into playing through an injury? Yes. Yes he did. It’s shit like this that makes me hate sports culture. When it happened, I briefly thought they were maybe going to address the fact that Jamie is used to hiding pain, stemming back to trauma and have him insist on playing through, but. No. I don’t think they realise the fucking irony here of insisting that Ted doesn’t care about the wins and losses, and yet putting the safety of a player below that. Arguably, it's not about the win, it's about… something else. But it is not prioritising helping Jamie so why should I give a shit?
Also, it’s only after that that the City fans turn around. Which. Is so fucking. So. Yes. There are obviously lots of different city fans there, but we focus in on a group who are being truly fucking horrible and then… Jamie… wins their approval by playing injured? Seriously, what the actual fuck? I didn’t buy this, but even if I did, this isn’t something we should be aiming for! Why should Jamie win these people’s approval through endangering himself? I hate it so much! And then they dare to show his dad’s friends saying his dad would have been proud to which my audible reaction was: I don’t care (briefly followed by: is he dead? But those hopes were dashed). That’s the whole point! Jamie doesn’t care. He shouldn’t care! Caring about his dad’s opinions was deeply damaging for him!
In conclusion, I will be focusing on the bits I loved and rewriting/fixing the others through fanfic. Just needed to get this out here because it has been driving me insane.

What We Do in the Shadows: Freddie (4x09)
Ohhhh boy. I haven't checked for the reception of this episode yet, but I'm going to take a wild guess and say Tumblr isn't happy.
Cons:
So here's the thing, the biggest "con" I have for this episode is one that's very conditional on whether Marwa ever comes back. Turning your only woman of color into a white British man and then sending her off, after a full season in which this character is stripped of her agency and turned into nothing more than exactly what Nandor desires is... well, it's a choice. And to be clear, I think it's a choice the show made on purpose, I think we're supposed to think Nandor's behavior towards Marwa is ghoulish and disgusting and all the rest, I think we're meant to feel horrified by it. But that doesn't change the fact that I expected the payoff for this story to be Marwa getting to live her best life, and now instead she's... effectively... erased from existence? I don't know. This ending for her character gives me very weird, uncomfortable vibes. I would have played this differently if it really is the end for Marwa, at least resetting her back to her original state before sending her off into the world. If they go back and do more with this character later, I'll be happy. If they don't, I'm side-eyeing the way this was developed pretty hard.
As far as the rest of the episode goes, I will say that I definitely liked the stuff in the main plot with Freddie more than the subplots. Looks like Colin is now a teenager in terms of development, and I'm kind of ready for him to be his adult self again. This is like baby Groot, or something. I'm ready for the original character to return from his purgatory. Nadja's troubles at the club similarly felt a bit underwhelming to me, I'm sorry to say. Some good jokes here or there, but I felt like the actual comedic bulk of the episode was treading water at some points, to get to our conclusion moment, which did work pretty well.
Pros:
I feel like I need to tap dance so much around my thoughts on the Freddie situation! Suffice to say, if this is building up to a better resolution for Marwa down the line, I'll be totally satisfied. In and of itself, the fact that this fucked up thing happens to her character doesn't bother me, because the point is that all these characters do fucked up and immoral and thoughtless things to people. It's part of the comedy and the tension of the show. So yeah, the fact that Guillermo's boyfriend shows up, Nandor gets a crush on him, uses one of his remaining djinn wishes to transform his wife Marwa into an exact copy of Freddie, and then in the end the two Freddies fall in love and Guillermo and Nandor are both single... that's really fucking funny. That's clever, that totally subverts our expectations... people were ready for Nandor to be jealous that Guillermo had a boyfriend, and never in a million years would I have expected the story to take this turn. I admired the insanity of this concept so much! I just wish I could understand what they were thinking with the resolution of it.
This really has been Guillermo's season, not in terms of everything going well for him, exactly, but just in terms of the screen time and development being given to this character and his desires. We see how happy he is to have Freddie, something in his life that's disconnected from Nandor and the rest of his life as a familiar. The shattering when he realizes what Nandor has done is really effective. There's a rule in comedy about how in order for anything to land, there has to be the moment where it stops being a joke. Like in The Princess Bride, when Inigo says "I want my father back, you son of a bitch." In a lot of ways, Guillermo storming off from Nandor, and Nandor realizing he's deeply hurt his friend, is the equivalent of that moment. It's effective if, once again, we keep it in a bubble.
In the subplots, while I mostly was just kind of shrugging, I did enjoy Sofia Coppola getting her head ripped off, and I liked Lazlo's endless list of vampire music pun names. There are always some fun one-off jokes in this show, even when a certain plot thread or scene doesn't hit quite right.
I think ultimately what this episode sets up, though, is a good thing: with only one episode left of the season, all of our characters have been brought low. Young Colin is going through a change and has thus lost his childhood stardom, Lazlo is trying to navigate the changing role he has as Colin's parent of sorts, Nadja is losing her club, Guillermo has lost his boyfriend, and Nandor has lost Guillermo, or at least it looks like that very well might be the case, along with losing his wife. The stated purposes of these characters at the start of the season have all been shattered. Nandor wanted to settle down and be married. He had it, he lost it. Guillermo wanted to assert a sense of identity outside of his role as a familiar. He had it, he lost it. Nadja wanted to open a vampire night club. She had it, she lost it. I think that works really well as a thematic tie for this episode.
So I'm torn. Again, having not explored the reaction of the fandom, I'm willing to bet that people are livid about what happened to Marwa in this episode, and frankly I'm not exactly pleased with it either. But I do think that structurally and in terms of our core cast, there are some interesting things that have been set up in this one. I know people expected Nandor to be jealous, but this twist was honestly funnier and more revealing about the fucked up nature of Nandor and Guillermo's whole deal. I suppose I'm willing to wait and see where they go from here, although Marwa's exit, if indeed that is the last we see of her, is a serious mark against the show at this point.

I saw Aladin both on the Disney Wish, and the traveling Broadway tour. Here are my thoughts.
(I structured these using the Aristotle elements of tragedy. Yes I know that they aren't meant to apply to a comedy as a rule. I also am aware that I didn't use them in the way Aristotle did. That's on purpose. My theatre history/dramaturgy professor loves using these six areas as a way to break down western theatre plays. So it's my default. And I'm on vacation so I'm not going to use them in the proper scholar way. Not sorry)
Cruise:
Plot - Highlights. This show was a cut version and was more an abridged music show.
Character - The characters didn't really move the Plot. They felt very simple but still relatable and fun.
Theme(thought) - The theme of staying true to yourself honestly shined the most in this one only because the genie, carpet, and Aladin relationship was very well built into the story. Made it stick.
Language(diction) - Very casual. Light air.
Rhythm(song/music) - For its shortness it still flowed well and felt pretty good in terms of story beats.
Spectacle - Excellent. They had one puppet for Iago. Limited set but they let that budget go to props and costumes which felt nice if a bit cartoonie. They had those not fireworks during genie's song which was great. The carpet was like a scissor lift for the flying scene. Very cool. Actually all of the Genie song was great and the costumes for Prince Alli were great with the back up dancers as the peacocks.
Extra stuff -
This show had the carpet as an acrobat in a onesie like outfit. His nonverbal expressions were outstanding and he did trick the entire time. Like I cannot express how much joy he brought me. I'd watch a full length play or movie about the character. His actor was that good.
The relationship between Jasmine and Aladin was... fine. It wasn't for a lack of chemistry or acting but they had limited time. Although the genie Aladin and carpet Trio was great. Top tier.
Aladin's prince costume ripped off when Jafar exposed him. This was a nice call back that I really liked to the movie. Keeping the magic with practice effects.
Also the lamp peddler was a different character than genie and they cast a woman(she played Ursla the night before for little mermaid) so she did the intro and had cameos throughout. Mainly this was because the genie was blue, unlike in the Broadway version, so it had to be two different people. But it worked and she did magnificent job. The entire cast did to be honest.
Broadway
Plot - It was pretty alright. Stayed mostly true to the movie while changing things. The action flowed nicely and made sense. Nothing felt jarring.
Character - The characters definitely pushed the plot more. Abu and the carpet were replaced by three guys... and I have mixed feelings. They weren't bad, but they also didn't need to be there. I think having to devolp three sidekicks took more time from the show than it was worth personally. That being said they were fun characters.
Theme(thought) - More developed on Aladin's part, but it struggled with being torn between focus.
Language(diction) - Much more dignified than the cruise if that makes sense. Less casual outside of the market place.
Rhythm(song/music) - The story flowed well and besides a few songs dragging this area had great marks.
Spectacle - They leaned less flashy pizzazz in parts. Still a Spectacle I promise, just a little more focused on glitter than effects. The magic tricks were cool but simplistic. Felt a little lacking. Like the costumes were amazing but it felt like a focus was put on finery in that area and not overall effect. A great time just a bit whelming.
Extra thoughts -
The sultan was fun in this version. He had some great lines and his dynamic with Jasmine was well done.
Proud of your boy was actually a top tier moment and I liked the depth it added to Aladin's character. Him being stuck being the disappointment and not wanting to disappoint Jassmine like he had his mom added some nice layers to why he did what he did. I think it helped emphasize how he wasn't a bad person but a kid(he felt younger than the movie. More like 17-18) out of his depth in a bad financial situation. His love for his mom and later Jasmine and how they make him want to be better both for them and himself, contrasting with the harsh reality of being poor and feeling like he has to lie. Very good build up.
Iago being human didn't bother me actually. It made sense to not bring a puppet on the road and he was a fun character.
Jasmine wearing pink at the end was dumb. Her dress should have leaned blue and Aladin's red, instead of him wearing the blue. For context they both wore whites with hints of color at the end. The decision to put her in pink didn't feel like anything but gendered nonsense. And I don't care that the creepy Jafar scene had her in red in the movie.
Jafar's costume changes were cool. To sultan and then genie.
Friend like me went on for too long. I get it has to be longer for the musical but it dragged a bit.
The green member of the trio.. liked food... and was heavier. It was overdone and my mom said she could feel my internal sighs. It just was not funny and kept pulling attention.
The genie was the opening person in this version. This version had the entire ensemble performing the Arabian nights(I think the cruise version just had the merchant sing it and then transitioned into one jump). Then the characters were introduced. Aladin and Jasmine posing on rolling carts with Jafar, Iago, and the sultan on the floor. Very nice stage picture. Made my theatre brain very happy.
The dancing in the show was top notch. The fighting was fun. But the dancing was the highlight. Would recommend it on that alone.
Aladin didn't get stripped of his princely attire by Jafar. Yes this bothered me. No it wasn't a big deal. I feel like Him sitting in his street clothes in defeat is an important element purely based on the fact I like the picture it paints in the story.
Final thoughts -
Both shows cut the underwater scene for obvious reasons. With Jafar interrupting being the fall from grace or arresting him depending on the show. Not noteworthy really just on the brain.
Overall I actually think the cruise one was better. I notice a trend with the Broadway shows shying away from magic a bit. And for Anastasia that made sense. Less so for Aladin.
I think cutting the carpet entirely and genie scene time was a mistake. I also thought the genie songs were less dazzling on broadway. The costumes and sets were higher quality and detail in broadway, with the cruise still having good quality but less extra umph. Instead the cruise leaned into the cartoony feel. Which they pulled off splendidly. The broadway show had less of that rough and tumble feel. Less cartoon like. The Broadway show had deeper characters, but less spontaneity and less moments that were just comedic moments like you'd get in the cartoon movie.
Overall Broadyway felt more like a traditional musical whereas the cruise show was more improv with almost concert music vibes. Both very good but entirely different experiences. The Broadway version delivered on the story and plot, and the cruise on lighthearted and comedic fun. Just very different goals and outcomes. I'd recommend both.
My perfect version would be a mix. Keep the Trio and carpet both(sorry abu). I like leaning into the magic being a suprise to the characters. I think the Trio reacting to the carpet would have been a fun moment. I liked the carpet flying scene in both but lean more towards the Broadway due to fewer projections.
The cruise version had Jasmine bring up how she's trained to rule since she was born. I think this would be a lovely way to push her forward as sultan with Aladin as her husband and advisor(house husband let's be honest) instead of the two ruling together(as in Aladin being thrust into equal partnership on reigning with no experience, not him not having a say).
I'd also keep the sultan from the Broadway show. I felt he was his most three dimensional in that version. Honestly I'd like to see it expanded on a bit. His struggle with tradition and love for his daughter. It'd add some tension and build their relationship.

📌 Pinned Post 📌
Ayo! I'm D and welcome to my main blog. This may be overdue but better late than sorry, right? Haha lol jk
Anyway, here's the list of sub/secondary blogs that I have under archer12xx-main:
archer12xx - this secondary blog is for Tobias Fox and other Infinite Blue (it's an otome chat sim game created by Velvet Fox Games) related posts. I'm most active here (aside from my main)
beelscheeseburger - this one is for Obey Me and my love for Beel and Mammon-sama. Though I'm like a bubble on this blog lol I could disappear any time.
his-little-fool - this one's for Lucien Xu of MLQC 💜 (same with beelscheeseburger though, a bubble 😂)
d-plays-otome-and-vn-games - this one's for everything else, from twisted wonderland to pc otoges. It's kinda new and it's the reason why I decided to make a pinned post.
thepepperwoodchronicles - last and definitely not the least, my New Girl-themed blog. It's inactive at the moment but I'll be right back to it for sure (probably after I'm done with OP)
--
Kinda wish tumblr would allow us to choose which one to use when commenting and stuff. But... hope this helps! 🥰🥰
Keep reading to know more about me.
TL;DR - an introvert who loves One Piece, MCU, otoges, webtoon and manga, basketball, dogs and cats, languages, movies, and non animated tv series. Also someone who has a lot of secondary blogs. 😂
Author's Section:
Like I said above, I'm D hehe nice to meet ya!
I'm 24 and I go by she/her
Currently in college
I'm a filo living in the Philippines
English is not my first language, so if you see errors forgive me T_T I also speak Korean, a little bit. I pick up languages easily because I love learning them. But too lazy to actually study them. 😅
I sometimes write stuff and I try to draw, too (you can see some of my works on my sub blogs ^^)
I like/love a lot of stuff and a lot of characters lol namely;
On One Piece, my main man is Roronoa Zoro. I also love Shanks, Law, Pell, Katakuri, Ace, Rosinante, Smoker, (and for some reason, probably before I knew who he was) Kaku, and of course Sanji-kun and Luffy. I'd say Rayleigh and Mihawk too but not the same kind of love. I just think these two are so cool and I'd love to have them as my ojichan and otochan respectively. 😏😉 (Yes, I'd call Mihawk Otochan not jijiwe, not otosan... otochan lol)
Aside from OP, MCU is one of my other obsessions hehe but don't ask me what team I am on Civil War because you won't get a serious answer lol ✌️ I love Iron Man, though. He's my favorite Avenger. Loki is my favorite, too. And if I have to choose among the villains, I'd choose... Thanos because I hate him the most. 😅
And then there're Infinite Blue Tobias Fox, Obey Me Beel and Mammon, MLQC Lucien, Twst Leona, Jack, and Trey, TOT Vyn and Marius, Duskwood Jake, Mysme ZEN, Wannabe Challenge Biho and Yooha, Ikevamp Leonardo and Vlad (and a little bit of) Sir Arthur, Ikepri Leon and Jin, Nekopara Sage, Blooming Panic xyx, RLFC Lex and Sol, Colorful Mirai Millo, TeachersLP Edgar and Dr. Fox, Under Maintenance Theo, Love Spell Marcello, Sinsations Greed (do not judge me pls lol), and the list goes on and on and on. I also watch tv series, such as New Girl, kdramas, etc.
Movies, too. Like a lot. Romcoms, action comedies, sci-fi and a little bit of Stephen King horror stuff.
I still play Left4Dead (yeah you read it right haha) and my go-to character is Zoey. Though I could never get past the freaking subway T_T (I don't want to use a walkthrough though...) Rip 💀
I love dogs and cats, despite being allergic to them lol
Taylor Swift, 5sos, and everything else.
Coffee and tea
Loves basketball, too. PBA - Ginebra Kings (Thompson and Brownlee), NBA - GSW (Klay Thompson, sometimes Curry but mostly Klay)
Anyway, this is getting too long and if I continue you might end up knowing me better than I know myself. 🤣🤣
And it's probably obvious by now, I don't have a lot of friends. 😂😂 Not just because I'm an introvert. Lol jk (serious about the introvert tho)
That's all folks! If you're still here... Wow! Thank you so much for reading this!! Stay safe, drink water everyday, take care of yourselves, and hope you're having a much better day today than yesterday! I mean that for tomorrow, as well. 💚💚💚

random game roundup 3
A Hell of a Journey - PWYW
Tumblr media
what if it was the divine comedy but virgil was just an absolute piece of shit. he had no fucking idea what was going on. you have to go through hell to get to purgatory and this idiot is no help at all
this is a short & sweet twine game. the illustrations carry it. it's pretty cute and took me under 5 minutes to read
Samorost 2 - $4.99
Tumblr media
hey i said this was random game roundup not random itch game roundup. i just have 3000 itch games
amanita design is literally like the all-timer for 00s indie devs. ive known of their point-and-clicks for basically the entire time ive been conscious. i think ive only played samorost 1 and machinarium before now.
its hard to beat the level of vibes-based gaming samorost operates on. this is what gnome tumblr is all about
apparently in 2020 this got a remaster that let the game support modern resolutions using AI upscaling on old assets, and to its credit it ran awesome for a game this old. it didnt fuss at all about tabbing out or using a second monitor while playing. however i think the upscaled assets look pretty shit? lol. like the art direction in this game is extremely strong but the raster images definitely were not meant to be seen bigger than 1024x768 and it makes the characters who scaled up much better stick out suuuper bad.
music completely rips ass tho. hell yeah brother
i actually went ahead and finished this at an entire half an hour playtime. big fan of samorost 2
T.A.R.S - $1.99
Tumblr media
included in: Bundle for Ukraine
first thing i got struck by with this game is that it is extremely good looking for the price tag and my lowered standards. there is also a lot of voice acting which is pretty amateur but a lot of heart went into it. i could not find an option to subtitle the dialogue which kinda sucked
T.A.R.S is a third person shooter with a focus on difficulty via being killed in one hit and having very limited resources. you're fighting werewolves or something. i didn't play long enough to see them do more than just chase after me in a straight line so idk if the enemy AI is interesting
one of the big downsides of T.A.R.S is that the game is dark as fuck. shot like a modern hollywood film. like that one episode of game of thrones. i cant play this on my high refresh rate monitor because the sun is up right now and the ambient light in my room is too much and i cant see anything. also the game emphasizes wearing headphones and focusing on hearing the enemies before you see them but the sound design is um. not great. i kept getting snuck up on because the guys dont make any noises until theyre two inches away
i don't think i gave this a good enough chance but i'm not a horror fan nor am i a shooter fan so it's really not for caelums. maybe you'll like it tho
Panic Factory - $1.50
Tumblr media
included in: Bundle for Ukraine
panic factory is a puzzler pretending to be a shooter. you are an eco-activist that has been trapped in a torture dungeon by a corporate CEO and need to figure your way out. with a shotgun. and whatever ammo you can scrounge up
the voice acting in this is very hammy and the pixel art is appealing to look at so the presentation is pretty solid. i found this difficult to spend a lot of time in because again i don't like shooters and i found that the reaction times this game expects out of you in the first level to a be a bit extreme. also required arrow keys to move
Weird Grief - PWYW
Tumblr media Tumblr media
im so fucking sorry for how hard i laughed
i honestly really liked this. weird grief is a twine about the immediate aftermath and slow recovery after the death of a loved one. and you are poly. and furry. it has explicit sex scenes so watch out for that. but this is worth reading imo

If it's not EEAAO night at the Oscars I'm going to riot...
Tumblr media
It's Oscar Sunday and while I've found this entire Award Show season rather boring, one can't help but feel a little bit of pride the way Asians have dominated in wins. A year ago who would have thought a multiverse immigrant action comedy drama written by the Daniels with an Southeast Asian led cast would be the favoured film to take Best Picture?? Everything Everywhere All At Once has been a runaway favourite and Best Picture is just one of the many categories where it is a heavy contender tonight.
Let me get off this EEAAO rah-rah train for a second though because as much gushing as there is for the film, I've also heard the honest opinions of some that they don't love this movie. On one hand, it's a multiverse film staring one of the world's greatest (and most underrated) action stars - Michelle Yeoh, a beloved scream queen (and so much more) Jamie Lee Curtis, and Short Round - Ke Huy Quan - all grown up. That just screams entertainment value. However if you've ever had to explain the multiverse to a parent or grandparent you might see where the story falters in universal appeal. But wait! It's also an immigrant story about generational friction, one of its main characters is LGBTQ+, and it's in three languages (English and two dialects of Chinese). It's truly a movie with universal appeal!
That said, I will admit of the Best Picture nominees EEAAO is perhaps only somewhere in my top 4. I've seen 8 of the 10 nominated films (opting to skip Avatar and Women Talking in theatres, I would have watched the latter if I could have streamed it). While not overly enamored by any of the selections, The Fablemans would be my favourite followed by a three-way tie between EEAAO, Top Gun: Maverick, and All Quiet on the Western Front (which I enjoyed a lot more than I expected I would)
Before I get into my picks and general thoughts about the films I have seen, I want to thank Alex from the Dufferin Film Society who is leading the charge on the Oscar Pool that I've participated in for tonight. I've typically been part of a pool headed up by a very enthusiastic colleague at the office but that pool is sadly no more. Thankfully I've been invited to join in this new one even though I'm not sure I could point to Dufferin County on a map. (Sorry Alex)
I would also like to take a moment to mention a big movie enthusiast from Toronto whose absence is felt this year: Harvey Lalonde. Harvey was a mainstay at virtually every Toronto film festival, along with many other arts & cultural events, he's also been a part of Sundance, and Fantasia in Montreal. If you've ever attended a film festival in Toronto, Harvey has likely directed you to your theatre, ripped your tickets, or played some part in your moviegoing experience. He was most often at Bloor Hot Docs, the TIFF Midnight Madness venues most notably Ryerson Theatre, and TIFF Bell Lightbox amongst many other venues. I've volunteered at TIFF and other film festivals since 1999 and Harvey was already a regular when I started. A very sociable man who loved to talk about the festivals happening in the city and the films he'd seen or was excited to see, Harvey always took every opportunity to say hello and chat. Harvey had a stroke in February and passed away shortly after.
I mention Harvey here because our second last conversation was on Facebook messenger during the Golden Globes back in January. As you might be aware, I often tweet during award shows and converse via SMS and IM with friends. While I choose to watch in my home as opposed to gathering with friends (as I did in my 20's) I actually find I do a lot of socializing albeit via my phone, and I cherish all the award show chats I have with my friends. Harvey and I discussed our dislike of the host, which awards we had predicted, and the ceremony in general. I'm going to miss these conversations with him. I'd love to know what he thinks of my 2023 Oscar picks.
As usual I'm going to break it down between who I think "will win", "should win", and "my overall pick"...
BEST PICTURE
All Quiet on the Western Front Avatar: The Way of Water The Banshees of Inisherin Elvis Everything Everywhere All at Once The Fabelmans Tár Top Gun: Maverick Triangle of Sadness Women Talking
Will win: Everything Everywhere All at Once
Should win: Everything Everywhere All at Once
My pick: Everything Everywhere All at Once
As I mentioned The Fabelmans is my favourite amongst the list but it feels old-fashion stodgy Hollywood to give this one to The Fabelmans. A million films like it have won before and Spielberg probably doesn't have any more space left in his home for more awards.
In terms of what I thought of the films themselves, All Quiet on the Western Front surpassed my expectations, The Banshees of Inisherin was interesting but I failed to see its brilliance, Elvis was probably my least favourite Baz Luhrmann film (I never saw Australia), Tar was a feat of filmmaking (that I will likely never sit through again), Top Gun was one of the most enjoyable films I saw in 2022, Triangle of Sadness did not appeal to me (and I've once and for all decided to stop watching Ostlund's films despite everyone's urging).
DIRECTOR
Todd Field, Tár Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert, Everything Everywhere All at Once Martin McDonagh, The Banshees of Inisherin Ruben Östlund, Triangle of Sadness Steven Spielberg, The Fabelmans
Will win: Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert, EEAAO
Should win: Todd Field, Tar
My pick: Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert, EEAAO
Not that I will be the slightest bit upset when the Daniels win! They deserve it but Tar would be nothing without Todd Field's direction (and Cate Blanchett's performance). A part of me also thinks it would be nice to see Spielberg win for the film based on his own life. (I feel like there's in a joke in there about "if you can't direct your own life, what can you direct??"...)
ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Austin Butler, Elvis Colin Farrell, The Banshees of Inisherin Brendan Fraser, The Whale Paul Mescal, Aftersun Bill Nighy, Living
Will win: Could be either Austin Butler or Brendan Fraser
Should win: Brendan Fraser, The Whale
My pick: Austin Butler, Elvis
I had a friend tell me that he doesn't believe in rewarding an actor for putting on a prosthetic. I mean, he has a point but I actually think that Brendan Fraser could have pulled this one off even without a fat suit. I didn't even like Elvis all that much but I guess Austin Butler's performance was one of the strongest aspects of the film. The category has been divided throughout all the awards, so this could go either way.
Bill Nighy was very good in Living, a film that's worth checking out. It once again reminded me the similarities in attitudes and behaviours between the Japanese and British that just make these adaptations of Japanese source material into Brit production so seamless.
Colin Farrell (and Brendan Gleeson) are also great in their roles, my thoughts on their film aside.
Paul Mescal was fine but Aftersun as a film eluded me, I failed to see what was so special about it. (I will note that I have no relationship with my own father so maybe that's why I don't understand the appeal of the film)
ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
Cate Blanchett, Tár Ana de Armas, Blonde Andrea Riseborough, To Leslie Michelle Williams, The Fabelmans Michelle Yeoh, Everything Everywhere All at Once
Will win: Michelle Yeoh
Should win: Michelle Yeoh (I guess I wouldn't be sad if Cate Blanchett won either)
My pick: Michelle Yeoh
I've made no secret over the years of my love for Michelle Yeoh, she's a martial arts legend who's demonstrated her skills alongside the best, staring opposite Jacky Chan, Donnie Yen, Jet Li, etc.
Tar had a long running time and was carried by its main character and for that alone Cate Blanchett deserves recognition, but I guess she's had plenty of recognition in the past.
Michelle Williams seems to have a tendency of choosing certain roles, frequently fragile and inwardly troubled, so naturally she's perfect in The Fabelmans.
I made a decision that I wasn't going to watch Blonde because I just don't like Marilyn Munroe, so I won't be weighing in on Ana de Armas thought I typically like her.
I am going to watch To Leslie after I finish up this post.
ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Brendan Gleeson, The Banshees of Inisherin Brian Tyree Henry, Causeway Judd Hirsch, The Fabelmans Barry Keoghan, The Banshees of Inisherin Ke Huy Quan, Everything Everywhere All at Once
Will win: Ke Huy Quan
Should win: Ke Huy Quan
My pick: Ke Huy Quan
I'm really looking forward to seeing Ke Huy Quan become an Oscar winner after so many decades of struggle to just get roles in Hollywood. 100% I'm going to cry when it happens.
(I guess I will also note here that I've not had an opportunity to see Causeway, I missed it at TIFF 2022)
ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Angela Bassett, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Hong Chau, The Whale Kerry Condon, The Banshees of Inisherin Jamie Lee Curtis, Everything Everywhere All at Once Stephanie Hsu, Everything Everywhere All at Once
Will win: Angela Bassett or Jamie Lee Curtis
Should win: Hong Chau
My pick: Angela Bassett
This was a hard one for me to pick. While I liked Jamie Lee Curtis' performance, Angela Bassett did have a much meatier role in Wakanda Forever. But let's take a moment to recognize that there is not one but TWO Asians nominated in this category (plus a black woman, making the category POC dominated!), which is amazing to me. Hong Chau's performance was the best in my opinion.
ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
The Banshees of Inisherin Everything Everywhere All at Once The Fabelmans Tár Triangle of Sadness
Will win: Everything Everywhere All at Once
Should win: Everything Everywhere All at Once
My pick: Everything Everywhere All at Once
I will hand it to the nominees this year, every screenplay here except for The Fabelmans was indeed original! None of these were conventional stories, that's for sure!
ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
All Quiet on the Western Front Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery Living Top Gun: Maverick Women Talking
Will win: Women Talking
Should Win: not sure, probably Women Talking
My pick: Women Talking
I chose Women Talking without having seen it, based on the belief that it's a powerful story to put on screen and my faith in Sarah Polley's writing. This was reinforced by a bit of web scouring. But I'm still talking out of my ass :)
I'm also not entirely sure I understand what Top Gun: Maverick was adapted from...?
INTERNATIONAL FEATURE
All Quiet on the Western Front Argentina, 1985 Close EO The Quiet Girl
Will win: All Quiet on the Western Front
Should win: All Quiet on the Western Front
My pick: All Quiet on the Western Front
Argentina, 1985 also picked up some awards, I almost put that as my pick but then, quite honestly, I watched the film and changed my mind.
This is one of the rare times when I've seen every foreign film nominee and I didn't connect with Argentina, 1985 nor the Quiet Girl, though I would pick the latter if I had to choose.
All Quiet on the Western Front and Close are my picks, the latter has a very genuine portrayal of youth dealing with grief, I found it particularly moving. As for EO, it has a donkey for a main character, how can that not be endearing? Between EO and the Banshees of Inisherin, it's the year of donkeys in films and I'm all for it.
ANIMATED FEATURE
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio Marcel the Shell With Shoes On Puss in Boots: The Last Wish The Sea Beast Turning Red
Will win: Pinocchio
Should win: not sure... but Turning Red might be nice
My pick: Pinocchio
Look, I liked Pinocchio, it's got del Toro's stamp of slightly darker storytelling and his fantastical imagery, what's not to like? However I only saw it and Turning Red so I'm hardly in a position to judge. I really did like Turning Red though.
DOCUMENTARY FEATURE
All That Breathes All the Beauty and the Bloodshed Fire of Love A House Made of Splinters Navalny
Will win: maybe Navalny?
Should win: Fire of Love
My pick: Fire of Love
Again, I've seen more than usual within this category this year, having watched every film except All That Breathes. Fire of Love was my favourite but I'm reading that Navalny got the most attention (not surprisingly so given the topic, plus it was a good film)
ORIGINAL SCORE
All Quiet on the Western Front Babylon The Banshees of Inisherin Everything Everywhere All at Once The Fabelmans
Will win: Babylon?
Should win: Babylon
My pick: Babylon
Sadly I didn't love Babylon by a long shot, but Justin Hurwitz can do no wrong!
ORIGINAL SONG
“Applause,” Tell It Like a Woman “Hold My Hand,” Top Gun: Maverick “Lift Me Up,” Black Panther: Wakanda Forever “Naatu Naatu,” RRR “This Is a Life,” Everything Everywhere All at Once
Will win: “Naatu Naatu,” RRR
Should win: “Naatu Naatu,” RRR
My pick: “Naatu Naatu,” RRR
This is another fine example of Asians receiving recognition. I'm loving that Naatu Naatu, which I've only heard snippets of but sounds great in my opinion, is dominating in this category over a bunch of famous singers whose songs are frankly all terrible. I really hope they're not going to perform the ceremony, but at least I'll get a lot of laundry and dishes done during the show if they do.
CINEMATOGRAPHY
All Quiet on the Western Front Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths Elvis Empire of Light Tár
Will win: All Quiet on the Western Front
Should win: All Quiet on the Western Front or Bardo
My pick: All Quiet on the Western Front
I tried very hard to find some redeeming factors in Bardo, I wanted the story to loop around brilliantly somehow and being struck by genius, but overall I was there for the visuals. I missed my chance to see this in theatres and part of me is glad, but also there is regret because seeing it on the big screen would have likely been the most enjoyment I could get out of it.
Empire of Light is also underrated and understated, it's actually a beautiful tale with a elegant nostalgic setting and every bit a love letter to cinema as The Fabelmans was. More people should be seeing this film.
COSTUME DESIGN
Babylon Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Elvis Everything Everywhere All at Once Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris
Will win: Elvis
Should win: Babylon or Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
My pick: Elvis
I know next to nothing about Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, my bad. Whereas I didn't find the first third of Black Panther that interesting and so would often be looking at the production design and costumes on screen. I have huge issues with Babylon and historical accuracy (no matter what articles have said, there's nothing historically accurate about the wardrobe) but that's not exactly a requirement when it comes to outstanding designs. Just from personal tastes, I prefer Babylon and Wakanda forever over Elvis for costumes, but most web predictions favour it to win Best Costume.
EDITING
The Banshees of Inisherin Elvis Everything Everywhere All at Once Tár Top Gun: Maverick
Will win: Everything Everywhere All at Once
Should win: Everything Everywhere All at Once
My pick: Everything Everywhere All at Once
I guess the point of Bardo is that there are no edits...? Because the decision to not make edits or to purposely make them look seemless seems like an editing decision in itself... but that's fine if no one agrees. EEAAO does have excellent editing, and I guess Baz Luhrmann never makes a badly edited film (him and David Fincher I feel...)
MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLING
All Quiet on the Western Front The Batman Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Elvis The Whale
Will win: Elvis
Should win: probably Elvis
My pick: Elvis
Make up stands out when it's dramatic, or transformative, or recreates something with great historical accuracy... and I guess Elvis does all of the above.
PRODUCTION DESIGN
All Quiet on the Western Front Avatar: The Way of Water Babylon Elvis The Fabelmans
Will win: Elvis? Babylon? All Quiet on the Western Front?
Should win: Babylon... or Elvis
My pick: Babylon
Again my pick of Babylon over Elvis is a matter of personal preference. I'd be rather irritated if Avatar (which should receive a visual effects award for sure but green screen alone isn't production design) or the Fabelmans win.
SOUND
All Quiet on the Western Front Avatar: The Way of Water The Batman Elvis Top Gun: Maverick
Will win: All Quiet on the Western Front
Should win: All Quiet on the Western Front
My pick: All Quiet on the Western Front
I actually heard All Quiet on the Western Front before I ever saw it. True story! I was volunteering at TIFF 2023 during a screening and while situated in the underbelly of the theatre there are speakers which broadcast the sound being heard inside the theatre and so we listened in on a lot of intricate gunfire and explosions and it left an impression!
VISUAL EFFECTS
All Quiet on the Western Front Avatar: The Way of Water The Batman Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Top Gun: Maverick
Will win: Avatar
Should win: Avatar
My Pick: Avatar
I mean, who can actually compete with Avatar here..?
SHORT FILM CATEGORIES
I didn't see a single one of the nominated shorts this year so I guessed (likely very poorly), here's what's on my ballot:
ANIMATED SHORT My Year of Dicks
LIVE-ACTION SHORT Le Pupille DOCUMENTARY SHORT Stranger at the Gate
I will be back with after tonight's ceremonies! Happy Oscar Night!

star trek in modern times, is even worse than disney star wars. And thats completely disregarding the actually good parts like the rebels final season and mandalorian. Its miles worse than Rise of Skywalker. Like i genuinely got sick reading an interview of the making of picard, and the writer basically saying that the title character, who wanted to save billions of innocent lives, was the same as a colonialist supremacist, because he(A white man) tried to save an entire setient race from planetary destruction because... Well basically because he was a white man trying to play the role of a "savior", and so deserved scorn and mockery for believing they needed his help(And they did, the vast majority of them fucking died with their planet, when his higher ups essentially told him and his humanitarian efforts to go fuck themselves). Basically he was the one guy who stuck to his principles and the ideals of basic human decency and wanted to actually try and help, and the writers thought he was a colonialist for even trying to do so. And thats just ONE of the many, many, MANY terrible bits of writing from modern star trek.
GENERAL WARNING: I AM ABOUT TO SPEND THIS ENTIRE POST UNFAIRLY AND UNRELENTINGLY DUNKING ON ALL THINGS STAR TREK. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SCROLL PAST AND ENJOY YOUR DAY IF THAT WOULD UPSET YOU.
I dunno, that sounds exactly like Star Trek Next Gen to me. A lot of those episodes try to be all Metaphor about some social issue, aim for Center-Left in their politics, and somehow only end up hitting "no one should ever use transporters for anything."
Keep in mind, this is my list of all the good (non-reboot, non-Paramaount+) Star Trek stuff:
"The Trouble with Tribbles"
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Yes, this is the entire list. But I admit I haven't seen everything, just all the classic movies and random samplings from the various series. Yes, that includes "The Wrath of Kahn" and "The Best of Both Worlds" Neither really grabbed me.
But I'll give Star Trek this: "The Trouble with Tribbles" lived up to all the hype and was spectacular. The DS9 follow-up, sadly, seems to have been made after everyone involved in the franchise forgot what comedy is; I could see that episode striving to make a joke, but it could never quite get its hands on the right ingredients.
Anyway, @thekingofwinterblog continued with:
Like the stupid animated goofy spin off that is pretty much a rip off of rick and morty is unironically the best that modern Star Trek has tonoffer, and thats… Pretty sad.
But I hear that a lot of people like Rick & Morty, and I've even heard that it contains some actual real scifi concepts. (I've not seen it myself, and my understanding is that the fans are insufferable.) So it make sense that ripping R&M off would make the best Star Trek. I mean, there's a reason Star Trek started on a major television network, shrank down to a more obscure network, and then eventually died. Maybe it should have chased trends and/or tried to be real scifi earlier. It's why I'm so confused why anyone thought that Star Trek could be a draw for Paramount+, beyond getting the die-hard Starfleet-uniform-owning super-fans as a guaranteed audience.
But even if they're making weird extremist arguments for what they're doing with all the new Trek (and I admit I'll a little doubtful that your summary is capturing the full message), at least there's an attempt to put some kind of perspective into the story. Junk like 'The Rise of Skywalker' is terrible partially because the only meaning to be derived from it is what's there by accident. There's no coherent voice to it. It's pure derivative mush, poisoned by panicked attempts to please the worst kind of fans.
So being bad for reasons besides being boring garbage is actually doing fairly well for Star Trek. I applaud the new writers. XD
Sorry. If it sounds like I'm being really harsh to Star Trek, it's because I am. ;) I've never understood the appeal, beyond finding that the original Kirk/Spock/Bones dynamic could be enjoyable to watch if it wasn't buried in super-boring hour-long trudges. My brother loves to watch reruns of the various series, but it's never done anything for me when it isn't being a full-on comedy and/or ripping off Star Wars.

Since you've watched a lot more kdramas than me (believe me when I say that), I'd love to know what you think of kpop idols going the acting route. It's a trend that has been going on for years now and we've witnessed a lot of idols choosing to be actors/actresses once their contract ended. What were your favourite and least favourite performances if you have any? Oh, and did you ever feel like an idol was cast just for their popularity and not their talent (in acting I mean) and in result, the performance was not stellar? Sorry for this but seeing your tags under all those tomorrow posts made me wonder about this topic. You don't have to answer it if you don't want to.
hi anon!! those are good questions and i don't mind answering once bit, don't worry! but it might get long...
first of all i have to say that i started watching kdramas before i ever listened to a kpop song or knew a kpop group's name (it was around late 2018) and so i just watched dramas that i had seen people talk about on my dash or that were on those "kdramas to watch" lists based on the synopsis and so i knew nothing about idols turned actors or who some of the people on my screen were. which means i watched a lot of people act and enjoyed them without ever knowing they were idols in the first place. i only discovered that it was a topic of conversation when i really got more into kpop months later lol and so by then i couldn't really understand why some people were so against it (especially since it's not like all actors who never were idols are great actors anyway)
so i watched astro's eunwoo in my id is gangnam beauty, 2pm's junho in just between lovers, ze:a's hyunsik in strong woman do bong soon, girl'sday's hyeri in reply 1988, cnblue's minhyuk in hospital ship, infinite's myungsoo in miss hammurabi...and some more having no idea that they were idols and although i wouldn't put all of their performances on the same levels (which would be hard to do anyway because all of these shows are very different in ranges and genres) none of them stood out to me as "omg that one can not act at all what are they even doing here"
and even after i started to know more about kpop, there are many groups i don't know, especially older kpop groups, i don't always recognise when an idol is on screen (run on is one of my fave dramas, the male lead ki songyeom is one of my fave male lead ever and im siwan gave a stellar performance and i had no idea he was also an idol - same group as hyunsik actually- in the same show there's sooyoung from snsd who plays the second female lead and who was brilliant at it and again i had no idea she was an idol!) - i watched forecasting love and weather and the secondary female lead was an idol (in girl's day i think) and i found that through watching an interview almost at the end of the show lol - i watched vincenzo and the big vilain is taecyeon from 2pm and i had no idea and same for lee joon from mblaq when i watched my father is strange - but again i was never wondering what these people were doing there and i think they all did a great job!
i've now reached the point where i know enough kpop groups to watch a show knowing when a main character is an idol and they still impress me with their acting when i see it for the first time (jinyoung in the devil judge is amazing, sejeong in business proposal is so good at comedy what a dreamgirl, sungjae is perfect in mystic pop up bar both endearing and emotional, rowoon in extraordinary you did so well despite his character starting off with having no lines and no name, or krystal in crazy love shined when she got to unleash her character's anger and kyungsoo in swing kids ripped my heart out)
so honestly i've seen more idols-turned actors who can act very well and just register as actors to me when i watch a drama than ones who supposedly have nothing to do with acting. also it's important to note that a kpop idol's career as a full-time idol rarely lasts more than a few years (even if they've had success like f(x) was a very successful girls group and yet they're all doing different things now and haven't been active for years) and so when someone's done with a job before even turning 30 i think it's perfectly normal for them to turn into another one that also allows them to perform and be part of the entertainment industry they first started out in so it feels kind of natural if they're good enough at it (especially since most of them aren't deeply involved in their music's production so it's not like they could go to work as a songwriter instead for example even if they might want to) and for the ones like eunwoo or rowoon who act alongside their ongoing idol's career it's usually because they start off to attract more attention to their group (this is how i discovered astro thanks to eunwoo's acting and now i love the group) and then become popular enough to make a name for themselves which allows them a certain stability knowing that if their group disband or fail they have their own acting career to rely on which i personnally think is smart (although in some case i feel like it's a the detriment of their idol's career because they don't really have the time to actually be an idol - especially rowoon). an idol's job is often just to be pretty and do the choreography assigned to them which is very reducing and i think it's cool that some of them get to explore more of their own artistry by acting and getting to stand on their own and some of them have gone on to become absolutely amazing actors recognised rightfully by acting awards and such
i've noticed that a lot of idols nowadays (especially from groups that aren't super popular) go into acting in webdramas where the production and directing quality is usually very different from tv dramas and so of course they don't really shine by their acting because they often have to be a bit more stereotypical to fit into the short time and the genre - and i think for a lot of these webdramas casting an idol is usually to ensure a certain amount of view based on their fandom's size - but it's also a first step for some of them into acting so that they can then move on to a few secondary roles in dramas and maybe one day more but usually these aren't characters that require nuanced acting (like seunghyub from n.flying has done a few webdramas and has now had a few tertiary roles in dramas - his biggest one being in shooting stars at the moment where most of his character is based on being handsome and sweet or sanha from astro recently played the female lead younger brother in crazy love after being in a few webdramas and he was mainly asked to be cute and tall and funny and he fit that very well but it was far from stellar)
an interesting case of idols being cast because they're idols was the drama imitation which resolved around kpop groups struggling for success and the idols characters were played by actual idols (which was an interesting take since they know the reality of the industry better than anyone) yet the show didn't really let them shine as it just focused on a weird main romance but the male actor can actually act (saw him with an snsd member in love and leashes and he was great) and the side characters weren't given much to do - sf9's hwiyoung was a stoic character which is already his image as an idol so it didn't give him much to challenge himself i feel and the others were mainly there for some background action so again didn't bring anything of value but it's not like the show was great to begin with anyway lol and it flopped - the one who stole the show was chani from sf9 because his story should've been central to the plot but sadly wasn't and so he only had like flashback scenes and a few scenes at the end (interestingly chani was in a very successful drama that i haven't watched - sky castle - but since then he's mainly done webdramas and smaller roles like in imitation or in true beauty where he played the male leads' already dead best friend so again only flashback scenes - and funnily enough chani is a rapper in his group but i've only seen him play singers...)
i've ever watched a show where the main character was an idol and i thought they were awful and never should be actors but a lot of my fave shows have an idol as a lead so i'd say i'm all for it lol especially since it often attracts my attention to a show i might not have heard of of otherwise (i'm soooo thankful rowoon was in tomorrow because it's what made me read the synopsis and pay attention to the show before it was even out and where would i be now without joongryeon) and there are now several idols i've seen in mutliple dramas and always enjoyed their acting (especially since you can often see them get better as they act more and with more talented actors) like eunwoo, sooyoung, junho, rowoon, hyunsik...
also as you can tell i’ve watched a lot of dramas so i have no troubles believing i might have watched more than you haha

Welcome Home (Dad!Belphie Pt. 2)
A/N : I live for this kind of angst, I love it. Although this hurt my Belphie loving heart, these fics are so much fun. (Part 1) Word Count : 3.1K Warnings : children; babies; maternity; mentions of MC's death; mentions of childbirth; dad!character; angst
Belphie stiffened when he heard his son say it, but he didn’t have time to react before the knock came. He groaned as he got up off the floor, picking his son up and walking to the door to throw it open, expecting another Akuzon delivery for Leviathan, or maybe Mammon had just forgotten his keys. “See, it’s not Ma…” He hadn’t even been looking when he opened the door, he was still on edge from his son uttering the word, but the way the child was reaching out towards the door made him look up. “Y/N…” Your name was whispered from his lips, he felt like he was dreaming, this was all just some sick dream that his mind had come up with out of guilt and self hatred. He must have fallen asleep on the floor, that’s what this is. You couldn’t actually be there, could you? “You would not believe how hard it is to get out of heaven. You all made it seem easy, but that guy is a real stickler.” You joked, grabbing your son from Belphie’s arms and holding him against your chest. “It’s been so long… You’ve grown so much. I’ve missed so much… How long was I gone?” You looked away from your son's purple eyes to meet Belphies, but he was still silent. It was like he had gone into shock, which, you wouldn’t blame him. Nobody probably expected for you to come back, but you weren’t going to spend your eternal life up in the Celestial Realm when your entire life was down in the Devildom. “Belphie… Can you atleast breathe? Please? You’re worrying me.” His mouth fell open, but the sound that escaped him was like a mixture between a squeal and gasp, and you didn’t really know what the sound meant, but his eyes were wide and his hands were holding his hair away from his face as if he still couldn’t believe what he was seeing. “You can’t… You can’t be here… I watched you die.” He shook his head, quickly grabbing his son back and walking into the living room, shaking his head in disbelief. “That was one of the worst days of my life… I never thought you’d come back… I never thought I’d see you again.” He turned back around to face you as you walked into the house, shutting the door behind you. “How are you back?” You giggled lightly, trying to remember what happened in the Celestial Realm, but the memories were fading faster than you thought they would. “Well… First of all the line was so long, you would not believe it. They need to make the gates more like an amusement park entrance, maybe like five gates instead of one. It’ll really speed things up.” He didn’t seem to see the humor in it, not right now at least. It probably was the fact that he still didn’t understand how you got back and you were making jokes about the waiting time in heaven, it probably wasn’t a good time to do it. “It took forever to get through those gates, and the entire time I was waiting, I was thinking of you, and I was thinking of him. I don’t even know how I got sent up there in the first place, but as soon as I got through, I went straight to the guy who’s name shall not be said, and I told him I wanted to go back, to be back with you.” You rolled your eyes as little bits and pieces of memories came back to you, the hell that you went through just to get out of there. “I caused so much trouble, and I think I finally just annoyed everyone to the point where they didn’t care and they just gave me the boot… and here I am!” You gave him two thumbs up which your son mimicked back to you, but Belphie was still standing there, blinking rapidly as he tried to process everything that you just said. “So you ditched heaven essentially, to come back to your demon boyfriend and your demon kid who both killed you?” He said it as if it were a weird thing, and to most it probably would be, but to you it just seemed like the only thing to do. It was a pretty quick summary of everything that happened, and you probably could have summed it all up to that, but then there would have been no humor to break the ice and… you kind of felt like the situation needed a little comedy to lighten things up. “You’re such a dork…” He mumbled, but you saw the small smile tugging at his lips. You were
finally back, something that he never thought would happen, something that he never thought would be possible, but it did happen, and it was possible, and you were standing in front of him right now and he didn’t know how he actually felt about it.
“So how long have I been gone?” You asked, your head in Belphie’s lap as you laid on the floor, watching as your son tottered across the floor over to the toys that had been stacked in the corner of the living room. “He’s gotten so big…” As much as you had joked about the wait, it hadn’t felt like it was that long. The events that had taken place to get you up there in the first place were fresh in your mind still, it felt like it had just happened, but how big your son had grown said differently. Belphie pouted slightly as he thought of just how long he had gone without you, how long he had gone through this alone. “A year… and a half.” He ran his hand over your hair, watching your reaction. Your eyes gave away how you were really feeling, he could see how his words upset you, and that wasn’t what he was trying to do, not at all. “I never forgot you. I never got over what happened. I relived that day over and over in my mind… I’m so sorry Y/N…” His head dropped, resting his forehead against yours as he cradled your face in his hands. It was the first time you had ever heard him apologize for anything, and for once, he didn’t have a reason. There was no need for apologizing, not for this. “Hey… Don’t…” You reached up to cup his cheek, craning your neck just enough to kiss him before dropping your head back down into his lap. “I’m here now. You don’t have to apologize. Plus…” You held his chin between your thumb and pointer finger, turning his face to look at his son who was now sitting in the corner playing with his plush farm animals. “It was worth it to me. I have you, and I have him, and I can stay here with you forever. What is there to be sorry for?” You let your hand drop down against your stomach, smiling as you continued to watch your son, but your happiness was short lived as Belphie groaned, pushing himself up off the floor, causing you to roll off his lap. “You’re such an idiot! You think it was worth it? Dying for that thing?! You’re not the human I fell in love with anymore, you’ve changed.” His breathing was heavy as his nostrils flared, his hands shoved into the pockets of his cardigan. “And you may not notice it, but I do. And now… now you’re saying you want to live out the rest of eternity down here with me and the demon spawn.” He sighed loudly, shaking his head, but you didn’t understand why he was acting like this, speaking this way. “I said before all of that happened that I wanted to spend the rest of my human life down here with you, and that once I did die I would come back. I guess the process was a little sped up, but I don’t mind that.” You sat up, eyeing him suspiciously. You didn’t know where all of this was coming from, you thought that he was happy to have you back, and now he was basically saying that he didn’t love you anymore? “You didn’t have a problem with the plan before… And now that I’m here you don’t want me? That’s not fair, Belphie.” You swallowed thickly, digging your nails into your lap as you sat on your knees looking up at him. He looked indifferent , like he didn’t even care that what he was saying was hurting you. What had changed? “You didn’t come back for me. You came back for that, and you can have it. I don’t care. I wasted a year and a half of my life on the thing that took you away from me, and you come back and try to sweep it all under the rug, like it never happened.” You could hear in his voice that he was getting choked up, the lump in his throat causing his voice to crack. “You didn’t see your face… You didn’t see what I saw. I watched it hurt you, I watched it rip through you, and I watched it kill you. You don’t know how hard that was… And you don’t even care. You want to just walk back in where things left off and start playing house and… I’m just… I’m not ready for that.” Your teeth were sinking into your bottom lip as you listened to him, fighting back the urge to cry. He was wrong, he was so wrong. You might now have been able to see yourself, but you felt everything, but that didn’t change the fact that it was your child, that it was his child, and you
loved your son just as much as you loved his father. “What so… So you want me to leave again? You’d rather me just be completely dead and never have come back? What’s the reason? So you can suffer with the memories? So you can hate him forever for taking me away even though I’m right here?” You walked over to your son, lifting him off the floor and holding him on your hip, glaring at Belphie. “You’re utterly ridiculous… I… I don’t even… You’ll have what you want, but I’m not going to let you fill him with guilt for the rest of his life for something he couldn’t help.”
Belphie watched as you left again, walking out of the house with a luggage in one hand and his son’s hand in your other. “Well, that was stupid.” Satan said, appearing from seemingly nowhere beside Belphie, watching you walk down the pathway to the gate. “You finally got her back and… you let her leave again. You make no sense. Weren’t you the one crying every night because you missed her?” Satan’s eyes never left you, watching until you were too far off in the distance to even make out. “Shut up, Satan. You sound like Lucifer.” Bephie grumbled, slamming the door shut as he turned his back to his older brother and headed back up the stairs to the attic. It was supposed to be a low blow, but Satan knew that Lucifer wouldn’t have butted into his brother's business like he did. He waited to hear the attic stairs before walking out the door, sprinting down the walkway and out of the gates until he caught up with you. What Belphie… What none of his brothers knew was that he was infatuated with you. You were graceful, beautiful, funny, smart, sweet, and so much more. His heart had been torn as he watched your stomach swell with his brother’s child, and it had completely shattered when he watched that child rip through you, rip you away from Belphie, away from him. “Hey, you look like you need some help.” He said breathlessly, running his hand through his hair as he smiled sheepishly down at you. You were just as beautiful as you were before, even with the tear streaks that stained your cheeks. Your eyes glistened as you looked up at him, but it was only from the tears, tears that someone as wonderful as you shouldn’t have spilled for someone as shitty as Belphegor. “Oh… Satan… I uhm…” You sniffled loudly, dropping the luggage to the ground as your eyes overflowed with more tears. Satan did the only thing he knew to do, what he really wanted to do for so long, pulling you into his arms and holding you close as you cried against his chest, your words mumbled as you spoke into the fabric of his sweater. “I don’t know where to go… I don’t know what to do… I thought he’d be happy… He…” Your voice broke off into quiet sobs as his hand rubbed soothing circles into your back. Of course he knew that the only reason you were holding onto him like this was because you were broken, and you felt helpless, but he hoped that in due time you’d hold onto him like this for other reasons, because you wanted to, because you wanted him. He pulled back, sliding his finger under your chin to tilt your head up, using his other hand to wipe the tears from your cheeks. “Shh, it’s alright. I’ll help you. And if it makes things any better… I’m happy that you’re back. I’ve missed you, Y/N.” It felt good to finally get that off his chest, originally fearing the repercussions that those words would bring him if he said them anywhere around Belphie. It didn’t matter now though, Belphie had done the damage, and Satan was here to try to clean it up. He cleared his throat, kneeling down in front of your son who looked at him expectantly. “You’ve missed her too, haven’t you?” Your son nodded quickly as a child would, smiling wide up at you before looking back to Satan. “How about ice cream?” He looked up at you, waiting for your okay and how could you say no? Those two words had your son tugging at your hand, pulling you in the direction of the ice cream shop and you couldn’t help but smile at the sight.
“Are you sure this is okay?” You asked, stopping right outside of the door that you had walked out not more than an hour ago. “He doesn’t want me here, I’m sure me and the baby can stay at a hotel until we find somewhere else to go.” You didn’t want to admit it, but you were scared to go back in, scared to face Belphie again. Would he be mad that you were back? You didn’t want to deal with that, and you shouldn’t have to. You were only doing what you thought was right, and in Belphie’s eyes it had been all wrong. How were you supposed to know that he wouldn’t be happy? “Nonsense. You’ll stay here until you find a place. I’m not letting you spend all your money on a hotel room and food when you could stay here and get both for free. Plus, your room is still open, it’s still yours.” It was his idea to keep it, not that he’d tell you that yet. There was a time for everything, and right now what you needed was for him to be your support system, a friend that you could turn to and a friend that would be there. He opened the door for you, having to practically push you in as your son ran back into the living room to find his toys. “What the hell…?” You heard Belphie’s voice, clearly confused as he rounded the corner, his eyes landing on his son first before glancing up at the door to see you and Satan standing there. “I thought she was leaving. I thought they both were leaving.” His words stung, but you tried not to let him see just how much it hurt you. He didn’t deserve to know he had that much hold on you and your emotions. “Why the hell did you bring them back?” He eyed Satan suspiciously, crossing his arms over his chest as he waited for answers. “I couldn’t just let her walk around the Devildom with a child that small by herself. I was doing the right thing.” He turned to face you, his eyes were soft as he read every emotion on your face. He could see the pain that Belphie’s words alone were causing you, and it irritated him more than he’d ever admit. “How about you go up to your room, get you and the baby situated. I’ll bring you both something to eat.” You nodded slowly, calling your son over and quickly carrying him up, glad to be away from the looming glare of Belphie. As soon as you were up the stairs and out of earshot Belphie let loose, coming at Satan and not holding back. “You’re a fucking liar. I know exactly why you went after her, you sick freak. You think that just because I needed a break to sort things out in my own head that you could rush in and try to take over?” He shoved Satan back, not even caring that his brother was the embodiment of wrath and pushing him like this was sure to have them both brawling. “What the fuck is wrong with you?” “What’s wrong with me? Shall I quote you? ‘You’re not the human I fell in love with.’ Do you remember, Belphegor?” He hissed the words, standing tall as Belphie shrunk away from him, backing up as his own words were repeated to him. “Or how about the fact that you won’t even call your son by his name, you only call him it or that. What’s wrong with you?” He scoffed, shaking his head at his youngest brother. “You know, I loathed you for what you did to her. You were the reason she died, you just couldn’t control yourself. You killed her… And you had no right to pity yourself, you should have only felt guilt. But then… she came back.” He chuckled loudly, stepping closer to Belphie to get in his face. “And you screwed up again… So tell me… What is wrong… With you?” He cleared his throat, standing up straight once more as he fixed his sweater. “Anyway, I have to go make her something to eat, she and the baby must be hungry. It’ll be a nice way to welcome her home, don’t you think?”

The Great American Bake Off
pairing: corpse husband x gn!reader
word count: 3.6k
genre: fluff
summary: you’ve been jealous of rae and her closeness with your boyfriend since the dawn of time, but things change and friendships are made once she comes over for one hell of a cooking video.
Corpse, among many other things, was a man many wished to have.
It’s the truth; even if he didn’t have a YouTube channel through which millions kept up with everything from horror stories to Among Us gameplays, people would still turn heads and whisper whenever he spoke - that attention more than multiplied when he started blowing up and his social media presence grew.
With growth come numbers, and there are always people behind said numbers. Through them, Corpse makes wonderful friends - through them, you had met him, too. All the way back, during his horror narration days, you had grown to like him - really, who wouldn’t?
A DM you once sent after a few drinks, when you claimed to your friends you’d get the “deep-voiced man of your dreams” you often talked about and they, in turn, challenged you to message him, was nothing short of a joke and the idea of him responding was merely a pipe dream. What you hadn’t expected, however, was a response, which wrecked your brain at noon the next day, where your head throbbed with embarrassment, guilt, pride, happiness, a melt of hatred and gratefulness for your friends, panic and the remains of alcohol that tugged at every part of your skull.
It had turned out to be more than a great idea, though, because for the next few weeks you were constantly talking. You learned so much more than he let on in videos, and during late night calls you found out everything from his favorite clothing brand to his favorite color to his thoughts about his own mortality and then back to his favorite cereal. Audio calls and short voice messages turned into hours long FaceTimes that led you from friends to something more. And after a year or so of dating, you packed your bags and made it to sunny San Diego, ready to lay in his arms and sweat bullets.
Safe to say Corpse’s social media presence had its good sides. However, with all good things come bad things too, and you weren’t sure if the bad things were bad at all or you were simply too jealous.
Corpse made wonderful friends thanks to his YouTube channel. He met people he could confide in, meet, people he could talk to about his worst problems, people who would listen - he met people he could have fun with, with who he could forget all about the real world and his own issues, and simply laugh his heart away, play games until the late hours of the night.
If he had to name his closest ones, they would have to be Dave, Loey, maybe Mykie, possibly Jack, and Rae. And that is exactly where the root of the problem stood.
Rae is beautiful, and everyone who denies it must be either dumb or blind. She’s drop dead gorgeous, and funny, and kind, and smart, in a way that made you want to rip your hair out. You wanted to hate her so bad, because the jealousy ate away at you like a damn disease, but you couldn’t, because she was perfect Rae, and as much as you hated the fact she seemed to be perfect inside out, you just couldn’t hate her as her. It was impossible, you concluded.
You convinced yourself you weren’t jealous every time you heard him yelling or laughing at her from his office room - or at least you attempted to do so. Your lunch would turn sour and end up forgotten because you’d be way too focused on listening in on what he was doing and trying to make out what she was saying to even eat at the same pace you previously were. Jealousy ate away at you, no matter if you admitted it to yourself or not.
It didn’t go unnoticed by Corpse, of course. On one late night when you couldn’t sleep and neither could he, as per usual, you turned on a random comedy that you half-heartedly paid attention to, his fingers combing through the knots in your hair peacefully and the slow pace of the movie lulling you to sleep slowly. That is, before his phone rang and lit the mostly dark room. You managed to sneak a glance at the notification before he had, and the familiar bitterness seeped between your ribs as always upon seeing the name displayed at the top of the message, more than awake now.
You visibly stiffened when he laughed at the message and typed something back, shifting your head in his lap as some subconscious attempt at getting him to pay attention to you instead. He put his phone down and you huffed, eyes locked on the TV screen as you pretended to be extremely absorbed in the movie even though you weren’t quite sure of the difference between the protagonist and antagonist anymore. His hands didn’t return to your hair, and that somehow made you even more annoyed.
“What’s up?” Corpse quietly spoke up, barely over the volume over the already quiet movie.
“Nothing.” You said, quicker than you wanted to, and you bit your tongue in cringe when you realised it was an awful lie. Corpse seemed to think the same.
“That’s bullshit. Seriously, what’s wrong?” He asked, and was met with pure silence. In reality, you were hoping he’d simply never realise you were somewhat jealous, because you knew you were being stupid and unreasonable, but you couldn’t help wanting him all to yourself. Admitting it out loud made it so much more real, and so much more embarrassing that you would rather bury yourself alive than admit to being jealous of Rae, of all people.
After a few seconds of silence, save the laughter of characters on screen, he spoke again.
“Are you jealous?” The hint of a teasing tone in his voice made you want to rip your hair out of your skull. Was it really that damn hard to believe that yes, you were jealous of an extremely close friend of his? Was it a crime?
The clenching of your jaw seemed to give Corpse enough of a response, and his hands returned to running themselves through your hair as he giggled to himself.
“What’s so damn funny?” You borderline spat, causing his movements to halt for a second before continuing with even louder laughter.
“I don’t know, just the idea of you being jealous of Rae is so funny. I’ve noticed the way you roll your eyes whenever I text her in front of you. You’re not exactly sneaky, you know?” His words made blood rush straight to your face, cheeks heating up in embarrassment. How long has he known this for?
“Sorry. I don’t…” you exhaled and attempted to smile. “I don’t know what’s up with me. I’m so jealous nowadays. I don’t even know why.”
“There’s enough of me to share with everyone, no worries baby.” he replied, teasing tone still yet to dissipate as you slap his knee in mock offense and he starts wheezing.
“Absolutely not! Fucking excuse you, I’m not sharing with anyone!” you gaped at him as he kept laughing.
That was the end of it - or at least Corpse thought so. Needless to say, he was wrong.
Your mood would instantly turn sour whenever he’d laugh at one of her messages, and you attempted to push down every eye roll whenever he’d sit on his phone, between your legs, back turned to you so you could see everything, and open Rae’s DMs again. Sometimes you managed, sometimes you couldn’t help it, but you did your best to do it whenever he wasn’t looking. Because you truly knew you were being unreasonable, especially whenever you have to relay situations like how he had to postpone a date one time because Rae asked him to play Rust for a bit longer and you almost ripped all your hair out of your skull in frustration back to your best friend who just turned Rae and Corpse into the villains in the situation because that’s what best friends are supposed to do.
Not like he was going out of his way to talk to her a concerning amount, they mostly talked in groupchats and on streams and that was only a few times weekly, but it did absolutely nothing to calm the green monster growing stronger in you every day, fed by every laugh she got out of him.
The green monster fucking loved it when Corpse excitedly announced to you that he’s finally meeting his friends for the first time, and by friends meaning Rae, Sykkuno and Karl. You, however… were far from impressed.
He paced around the room in excitement, a mix of obvious anxiety and joy evident on his face, and he fiddled with the strings of his hoodie with shaky hands as he very proudly announced that he would be the second tallest person in the room through a blinding, pearly grin, and seeing him so electrified couldn’t help but make you shut your jealous thoughts up, even if just for a little bit, and mirror his grin back to him.
What did, however, make you as anxious as him was when he announced they’d a) be coming to your shared apartment and b) making a cooking video - it sent you into a panicked mom mode as you dusted every corner of every room and vacuumed everything from the kitchen to the balcony and Corpse did nothing but record you as you anxiously rambled and laugh at you from his place on your bed.
When the dreaded Saturday finally came, and the first person to arrive, Sykkuno, rang your doorbell, you squeezed Corpse’s hand to stop him from nervously toying with his rings and opened the door, and you greeted the man like he was your own brother and not a person you’d seen probably a total of three times through the computer screen and someone who’s seen you maybe two times, from the pictures Corpse sent him, in your best attempt to make both of them more comfortable. It actually kind of worked - turns out Sykkuno is a pretty affectionate guy, too, and a conversation started as soon as he stepped in. Corpse gave you a look when you pulled away from Sykkuno’s half-hug, and you almost laughed out loud at the irony when his phone lit up with a notification from Rae announcing she was almost there at that exact moment.
She had kept true to her word; ten minutes or so later, another ring was heard and you gestured to Corpse to open it this time as you gave Sykkuno his cup of water and resisted any and every urge to roll your eyes or do something otherwise bitchy and stupid. Corpse did as told, and you watched them hug and listened to Rae squeal in excitement through the open door of the living room and decided to plaster a smile on your face for as long as you could muster before you remove yourself from the situation when they start filming.
Unfortunately for you, the first person she locked eyes with was exactly you, and they lit up an even prettier brown (if that was even possible) as she beelined to you and you barely got a greeting out before she engulfed you in a large hug, arms wrapping around your neck as she swayed both of you side to side.
“Oh my God, you must be Y/N! I’ve heard so much about you, it’s so nice to finally meet you!” Rae cheered into your ear before she finally pulled back, before shooting an infectious grin at you that you couldn’t help but return back.
“All good things, I hope.” you chuckled as she moved to greeting Sykkuno, and nodded her head with an enthusiastic giggle of her own. You eyed Corpse for a second who simply leaned against the door frame, watching the whole thing unfold with somewhat of a proud smile on his face, before Rae turned back to you and your attention was on her again.
“Of course! Corpse is very much a simp for you, you know that?” She said and both you and Corpse laughed, especially him, who nodded his head in agreement as she sat back down, still beaming at you.
“Well, I’m happy to hear that.” you respond before turning back to Corpse. “Where’s Karl at?”
“He’ll be here in half an hour or so, he only landed recently.” he said. You nodded and moved to sit on a nearby chair to leave space for the guests on the couch.
Karl ended up arriving in twenty minutes and apprised everyone of the information that “his taxi driver is a psycho that, apparently, doesn’t fear stop signs or the police” before setting up the camera in your kitchen and tried his best to attach lapel mics on everybody (admittedly, it took way longer than it should’ve, but he eventually managed and that counted as a win in his book). You reluctantly agreed to be the judge of the finished product when they’re done cooking, and Karl was there for the purposes of being a cameraman and making jokes off screen so he agreed too, albeit way more enthusiastically than you.
The two of you sat behind the camera as the three of them lined up, Corpse wearing a mask and his signature eyepatch (that he didn’t really need, but those two did their job in preserving his privacy) and introduced what they were doing. Corpse was obviously very anxious, hands fidgeting constantly and shivering like a dog after a bath despite the hoodie he was wearing in 100 degree weather because of the shower of sweat that was now drying on his body, and that was partly why you were there, supportive smiles, encouraging cheers and all.
They were making Mexican ground beef tacos, and despite knowing Corpse can barely make a sandwich without setting at least two dishes on fire, you still cheered him on proudly and repeated he was part Mexican himself roughly 5 times a minute, claiming he was going to kill it.
“Kill it? More like kill one of us- CORPSE watch what you’re doing with that fucking knife! You’re proving my point!” Rae yelled at him as he giggled in delight, watching the woman gape at him in pure horror and Sykkuno watch his movements completely entranced as he played with the knife in his hands.
“You’re just mad that he’s going to make tacos fifty times better than you.” you said to Rae, chewing down on some M&Ms that Karl and you shared (both of you decided on a genius plan - you’re going to eat the whole bag before they’re done with cooking so you can claim you’re full and therefore can’t eat the atrocity that will most likely be the tacos).
“Don’t gas me up like that, Y/N, you are well aware I’m shit at cooking. Expect absolutely nothing from me.” he replied over the sizzling of the meat on the pan, throwing a whole spoonful of chili powder into it, earning loud yelling and scolding from your side and loud laughter from Rae.
“HALF A TEASPOON! Half a teaspoon, how have you not remembered this already?! We’ve made tacos a million times now, oh my God, you’re actually stupid.” you yelled at him, arms flailing in the direction of the seasoning to emphasise your ‘half a teaspoon’ point as Rae doubled over in laughter and Sykkuno looked into the pan with a concerned and somewhat afraid look. Just as he peeked in, the overwhelming smell of chili powder started biting away at his eyes, and he jumped away with a yelp.
“Jesus, Corpse!” he exclaimed, rubbing his eyes with his forearm as the whole room burst into laughter and Corpse suspiciously inspected his beef.
“What were you saying about your ‘Mexican king’, Y/N?” Rae asked, pulling out a few tortillas and putting them on the table. You huffed, grabbing another handful of M&Ms.
“Giving him up to God. He’s the only one who can help, at this point.” you said. She giggled in response and Corpse let out some sort of protesting sound and waved his knife around in complaint. “I don’t know who this man is. He broke into my kitchen and now I’m here.”
“Hey, I pay half of your rent!” he said, and you were about to reply but Rae dropped her meat into a pan full of overheated oil, and a loud hiss and some sort of a scream overtook the room as a cloud of steam shot into the air and she frantically looked around for the wooden spoon so the meat wouldn’t stick to the pan. You simply sat and laughed, eating the candy like it was popcorn and you were watching a shitty cooking show - it wasn’t that far from reality, really.
“Um, I just realised I don’t make many tacos, actually.” she said as she helplessly stirred the meat, turning to you with pleading eyes. “What seasoning even goes into this? Y/N, will you help me? Let’s team up against Corpse!”
You tilted your head in thought, but before you could even speak, Corpse spoke up.
“That’s not fucking fair, that’s-that’s against the rules.” he turned to you. “You won’t betray me, right?”
You laughed at him, adjusting in your seat. “I gave up on you ever since you added, like, 3 kilos of seasoning into the meat for no reason.” then you turned to Rae. “Sure, let’s do it, babe.”
Their loud yelling immediately started mixing, Rae’s cheers contrasting Corpse’s protesting. She stuck her tongue out at him meanwhile Corpse shot her the middle finger, and she turned back to you with a grin.
“Alright, what do I put in?”
Roughly twenty unnecessary and extremely long minutes later, the tacos were done, two each for each of them. Rae’s looked the best - probably because you guided her through the whole thing - next to Sykkuno’s, whose you were genuinely intrigued to try. While Corpse was arguing with Rae, he burned roughly half of his already ruined beef, and Karl made the very nice observation that it looked like a bird shat in a tortilla, which you proclaimed as the highlight of the video.
Since you and Karl claimed you were full, the three of them simply swapped tacos between each other as to be unbiased, and the two of you watched in amused suspense. You were actually quite interested to see what the end results were - you were first anxious and quite annoyed you even had to participate in the first place, because it meant losing your mind from jealousy, watching Corpse and Rae giggle and act all domestic while cooking, but jealousy simply dissipated somewhere half through the video as you watched the three argue if cheddar cheese belonged on tacos or not and Rae laugh at every stupid joke you cracked. Now, you sat, fully immersed as you stared at Sykkuno’s face; the poor guy ended up with the misfortune of having to try Corpse’s taco first.
“Zoom in, zoom in!” you whispered into Karl’s ear who complied and zoomed into Sykkuno’s face. He bit into the taco, chewing for a second before his face twisted in disgust and you began wheezing when he grabbed a tissue and spit it out, immediately grabbing his glass of water. Rae laughed at him as well, mouth full of his one, which she claimed she actually liked but it wasn’t as good as the “Y/NRae-co” as she proudly called it. Corpse silently ate Rae’s taco and refused to give a review on it because he was upset he got defeated, but the fact that he scarfed down the whole thing in a minute or so was enough of a review.
“Oh, come on, it can’t be that bad.” Corpse exclaimed when he saw Sykkuno’s bite in the tissue, grabbing the second taco he made and biting down on it. The whole room burst into laughter when he roughly swallowed, tears obvious in the one eye that showed, because of the overly spicy beef.
“What are you motherfuckers laughing at? It’s not that bad, I stand by tacorpse.”
“Tacorpse is actually genius. The one good thing you came up with during the entirety of this video.” Rae said and Corpse mumbled a fuck you in response.
“Well, I think we can all agree that me and Y/N’s taco was clearly the best.” she said, clasping her hands together.
“I actually think mine was better.” Sykkuno said, to which she pushed his plate out of the frame.
“Nobody asked you anything.”
“Don’t bully Sykkuno, I’ll fucking kick you out.”
“Oh yeah? I’m pretty sure Y/N would kick you out before they’d let you kick me!” Rae said, accusingly pointing her taco in Corpse’s direction.
“Alright, let’s wrap up the video.” Karl laughed behind the camera, and the three of them all turned to properly face it and end the video.
“Thank you all so much for watching, this has been an… interesting video, to say the least. Uh, thank you to Karl for filming this whole disaster, thank you to Corpse,” Rae gestured in his direction, “for lending us his kitchen, thank you to Sykkuno for probably getting us more views on this video, and also a big thank you to Y/N, Corpse’s better half for making this video way more interesting and helping me make probably, like, the best taco I’ve ever made.” she grinned and you shoved a peace sign in front of the camera.
“If you liked this video, check out Sykkuno and Corpse’s channels, they will be linked down below, and please click like and subscribe to support the channel! Again, thank you all for watching, see you later, bye!” she finished, and with that, Karl turned the camera off.
Silence engulfed the room. You sighed.
“Alright, who’s gonna clean this shit up?”

The Mandalorian Chapter 15 rewatch thoughts
- mayfeld does hear when the droid talks to him the first time, you can see him pretending not to like he hopes he’ll just go away haha. I also guess he’s had a lot of time to think, picking apart pieces of the large fascist machine he used to be a part of and going over everything he clearly regrets
- hahaha fennec and boba are in the back intensely keeping watch the entire time they’re on the prison planet. I suppose a good two thirds of this crew is uuuuh extremely wanted by the new republic lol
- the thing din’s voice does at the end when he says “but you still know your imperial clearances and protocols. don’t you.” is beyond fucking words, it sends a chill right through me
Tumblr media
1) din fiddling with that panel; I think he’s phenomenally nervous behind the helmet here, that’s the sort of keeping his hands busy he does when he’s anxious and 2) why the hell does boba have this many chairs instead of like space for cargo haha does he throw bounty hunter parties in here or what
- ngl boba correctly guessing at a glance what sort of ore they’re mining and informing everyone in his sardonic deadpan voice is Big Sexy
I love how he and fennec are standing together when they’re both present in these opening scenes too, first at the very back when they’re keeping a lookout:
Tumblr media
and then in the foreground while they discuss the scan
Tumblr media
it’s a nice subtle way to get across that they already have a dynamic, they’re somewhat used to working together as a unit at this point. (she’s also looking over at him when she asks what they might be mining in there, like she’s mostly asking his opinion instead of opening it to the floor. they’re talking the mission out between them before din enters the conversation)
- the inside of slave 1 when the ship’s moving makes me a little bit motion sick, I really love seeing it but I hope we don’t stay in here too often haha
- aaaw the small weary sigh din gives upon realizing none of his bros can go with mayfeld. I’m sorry about basically your entire life buddy
-
Tumblr media
the awkward way din adjusts the helmet like he’s trying to get used to the way it feels ;______;
- ah the distinct implication that mayfeld is needling din about this because he’s actually feeling super uncomfortable being back in empire gear and he needs to transfer that discomfort over onto someone else so he won’t have to feel through it... very psychologically understandable and such a fucking piece of shit asshole character trait to give in to haha
- din’s level of side eye is so epic you can see it straight through the helmet fhaskjfhd
- neat detail: din’s head turns slightly toward mayfeld when he calls mandalorians a ‘race’. (it’s sort of cool  that we as the audience know why that bothers him, but mayfeld probably didn’t even pick up on it). also shows that mayfeld doesn’t actually quite understand what he’s talking about, even when he makes decent points he’s caught up in his own myopic nihilistic point of view. ‘we’re all the same’ ------> ‘everyone’s secretly as shitty as me deep down’. (which also betrays a lot of self loathing, since we see later he does have the capacity to NOT be that shitty when he chooses to. rick famuyiwa manages to get a LOT of really interesting nuanced stuff into this character in two short episodes, that’s super impressive)
the bright sunny look on mayfeld’s face when din finally gives in and takes the bait tho fsajdkfhasj he’s awful but that’s very funny
- rip all these excellent dudes who really only wanted to accomplish the noble goal of ruining the empire’s entire day and didn’t know they were also trying to blow up My Dad Who Does Not Deserve Any Of This, it’s honestly just really sad that there’s no moment to talk that out
well at least they blew up the entire refinery on their way out, I’m sure that’s the way they would have wanted their memories honored lol
- the comedy beat of din running out of ammo for the first time ever and the music briefly cutting out for it is so so good for me
hahahaha din seems to actually take a moment to be a little aghast at that dude who ends up crushed under the treads of the tank thing, he’s just sort of staring for a few seconds too long and that’s how pirate nr 2 takes him by surprise and shatters his shoulder armour
- I feel a bit bad -- two of the ‘pirates’ try to hold on to each other for balance and then din punches them apart and off the tank :( I mean it’s not like he could just let them murderate him either but like. ouch I’m guessing this one might haunt him for a while for several reasons huh
(the sequence is actually this guy, let’s call him pirate 3, swings the spear at din and misses, instead hitting his buddy who’s trying to get to his feet, then looks horrified and grabs for him to make sure he doesn’t fall off, and then... mando’s forehead happens to them haha)
- poor fennec and cara just running up that hill while everything’s on fire, they must be wondering what the FUCK is going on (at least cara knows that things blowing up is a sure sign din djarin is in the middle there somewhere)
- everything about carano in real life aside for one second -- I do like that we get this contrast in build between our main female characters of the episode and the way their costume designs enhance it
Tumblr media
 - awwww the little gesture din does with his hand after he removes it from mayfeld’s chest after stopping him from leaving, it’s just so... sweet. it’s a little bit appeal, a little bit reassurance, it just lightens/softens the tone of what he says a bit (he has quite a lot of like... not conciliatory mannerisms exactly, but small touches here and there that are there to communicate that he’s not angry/aggressive or trying to be a dick about it even when he’s emphatic. I keep wondering how much that is just him being him and how much is him being practiced at settling other people’s hot tempers)
- this shot is just... genius
Tumblr media
it’s din seen entirely from the outside, with nothing of what we’ve learned to recognize as him for almost two seasons now in view -- not even his face, which we have at least a tenuous fledgling attachment to from before. it’s like we get introduced to him almost as if anew again and again in this episode, just like he’s getting introduced to new aspects of himself and what he’s willing to do and having to struggle to find ways to have that fit with who he is. his discomfort and stress is our discomfort and stress. it’s so interesting
- I can’t stop cackling at this moment even in all the tension -- you only get a sliver of din’s profile but you can feel the sheer MURDER radiating off him sdhfasjk
Tumblr media
- aaaaaaaagh the way you get a whole different view of din’s habitual impassiveness when you can actually see his face... the way he keeps appealing to mayfeld ‘just don’t make more trouble, just shut up’, the way he goes completely silent and watchful and frozen..... those are all really obvious trauma responses, and it leads you to wonder how often he touches into that even when he’s in his element, when he’s got the full armour on. hmngh my heart
- ‘the believer’ is such a galaxy brain title for this episode, because it could be referring to either of the three men around this table or all of them at once. (and crucially the only person whose beliefs aren’t in a living, breathing state of adapting to the world around them is the empire officer, with his horrific inhuman ideology. mayfeld thinks he believes in nothing, and proves himself explosively wrong by the end of the episode, and it’s redeeming for him in some capacity. din is facing a more internal dilemma of different parts of his (and his culture’s) beliefs/values clashing and having to decide which one’s more important, to his identity and to how to exist in the world as a person (and love for the baby wins out supremely in the end. of course it does Y_____Y). the empire dude only sees the same sterile fascist world at the end of his shit rainbow that he’s clearly always done, even when faced with proof that it’s untenable. (I mean he wouldn’t give a fuck that it’s immoral because he’s y’know evil, but he’s not even fazed by the fact that the empire provably FAILED, and failed so quickly) his belief is a dead and deadening thing to contrast the others. man when this show goes off with the themes it goes OFF haha)
- love the triumphant heroic mando music kicking in as we’re finally getting to pick off imps, love that for us
- din’s protective instincts at work again, he helps mayfeld to his feet and makes sure he’s safely on board before going further in himself ;_______;
Tumblr media
- fennec’s professional approval at mayfeld’s shot hahaha. well I guess he was supposed to be a sharpshooter back in the day huh
I do Not think she likes mayfeld even after all that, though, the withering look she sends him on her way past... should have killed him stone dead on the spot
- seeing din back in the armour is like a physical relief, I can breathe again haha
- tfw you catch yourself thinking ‘at least when all this is over we can go back to the razor crest and everything will be normal again’ and then you rEMEMBER 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

I'm still processing Season 6 and as an unpopular opinion I'm not too happy about it as a whole. I feel horrible for not enjoying it as much as the Cast/Crew would like me to, but I just can’t change this feeling I have.
Just to clear my head I'll write the things down that irked me. I don't want to start any discussion, they're only my thoughts on stuff ‘n thangs. Huge spoilers ahead, please don’t read if you haven’t watched.
Michael
I admit it, I have probably more sympathy for the bad twin than I should. And after the whole S5 I thought we get a bit more closure with him. I didn’t expect a redemption arc, after Michael killed Remiel, Dan and Chloe it would have felt wrong. But after the “Everyone deserves a second chance” the dude is down in hell, scrubbing the floor with a toothbrush. Really, Lucifer? That’s cruel after such a righteous line.
When Luci realized he could help everyone, even if he hated them, I hoped for a dive into the twins’ relationship but it was like Michael didn’t even existed anymore. And if someone needed therapy it would be the twin with the huge inferior complex. That could have been so interesting. (I had hoped that he'd sat on the couch at the end, but noooo we get the Frenchman.. such a disappointment.)
Maybe Tom Ellis didn’t want to play 2 roles again, or there was no time, but I feel that was a huge opportunity wasted.
What even was the plan of Michael? To get God to retire and wreck havoc on earth to get Dad back, so Mickey can take over as the new God? And then what? Wipe out humanity? I see no endgame here.
Ella
I liked Ella’s Story so far. But she stole the personal file of Carol and even broke into his house.. and everybody is cool with this? Carol might be crushing on Ella pretty hard but if somebody tells you they broke into your house, because they feared you were hiding something bad, You run for the hills. But the dude isn’t even phased.
I’m glad Carol is a good guy, though. Even if he’s kind of bland.
Ella finding out the truth on her own came out of nowhere. I would have found it better if they would have her act a little suspicious over the whole S5. But since they wrote S6 while S5 was shot, a little to late for this.
The scene at the wedding was amazing. I had so much fun with her outburst there.
Dan
Ghost!Dan was my favorite by far in this season. And I really liked how he wanted to help and tried to find out what he still felt guilty about.
I am so glad he got to spend his afterlife with Charlotte and I laughed so hard with the pudding. Didn’t expect that, in a positive matter. :D
The scene with Trixie killed me. Bawled so hard as soon as Kevin got teary eyes. That really gripped at my heartstrings.
But how could he go to heaven while in a body of a killer when his daughter stands right next to that killer?
Comedy-wise Dan is top notch
Trixie
I missed her so much.
It felt like she was an afterthought with everything. She recently lost her Dad and Chloe spends most of the time with Lucifer. I really missed the scenes with her and Luci, they always were so adorable.
They explain it later that she’s at a science camp, but I honestly thought Chloe chooses Lucifer (and later Rory too) over her.
She wasn’t at Chloe’s deathbed but here I’m not sure if the scene with Rory isn’t placed somewhere at the threshold to heaven where only celestials are able to enter. But if she wasn’t there because Chloe sidelined her in favor of Rory, then I can understand her absence.
Linda
I love Linda, she always gives good advice but nobody’s ever took it.
Her book probably would fly under the fantasy tag if she ever published it. Still, it felt cringey.
It was so sad that she thought she was a bad therapist.
Apparently she wants to keep helping celestials because it’s better than helping humans. In the end, celestials have the same problems as humans just on a bigger scale. But okay.
Amenadiel
Amenacop was good, and a nice nod to Dan who put in the application.
It made him realize that he only can change things when he has more power. I’m white and no american so I don’t know if the BLM theme there was well enough executed. Got me wondering.
The apocalypse just being Angels who are incompetent was a letdown. Like this whole season.
I really like him as god. And I am glad he took the position in the end. Even if he could have decided this a bit earlier.
Rory
I like her sarcasm and her character.
Didn’t like the whole time travel, time loop and daughter spiel. I’m not a big fan of time travels or couples getting a kid just for the sake of a happy end or to add extra drama. I could have lived without a Deckerstar baby. Instead they could have focused on Trixie for a change.
The time she spent with Lucifer on the 4th August was precious though.
How in hell did the Frenchman capture her? How did he even know how she looked? IIRC Dan hasn’t seen Rory while in that body. Dan just went over to Trixie that’s why I thought he’d capture her and not Rory.
Lucifer
He found his calling to help the souls in hell only because Rory traveled back in time? No man, he already took the step with Jimmy Barnes in preparation to take over as god. I don’t think it’s far fetched to believe that he would have the same epiphany without Rory there.
But without Rory, he wouldn’t have been helping Ghost!Dan to go to heaven. Though, before Rory traveled back in time, Lucifer was already trying to help Dan. They probably would have needed more time to figure out about what Dan felt guilty about, but figure it out anyways.
How did he even got Chloe pregnant? Was it his subconscious deciding he was ready to be a father? Amenadiel had to believe that he was human to get Linda pregnant. Or maybe it’s because they always thought they couldn’t impregnate a human and self-actualized it that way. Anyways, it’s a tiny hang-up I have with it.
Somebody else besides me thought that the scene in the panic room was awkwardly long? I know they thought Lucifer would vanish somehow, but it seemed too much to me.
His singsong while the magician talked about the trick. :D
I don’t want to even get into the whole time loop thing because I think it’s ridiculous(ly bad).
It took a lot of time for him to realize that he didn’t want to be god, after he put it on hold for a second time. Even Chloe could have asked him if that is really what he wanted. Could have spared us an episode or so. Why is the communication on this show so bad? Q.Q
I loved that he helped Maze with Eve to get the wedding back on after their fight.
He didn’t say goodbye to Trixie  - again. What a nice step-devil..
It’s been Chloe, Rory and his family since he found out she’s his daughter. Not even mentioning the one kid who probably loved him before even Chloe fell for him.
For someone who is all about free will and led a rebellion against God for it, he was quick to accept that he has a “fate”. I thought he’d find another way, or at least try to. Nope, he just did what his child wanted. And they disguised it at his “choice”. Doesn’t look like a choice to me if your daughter begs you for it and you have to promise it. Just getting along with what your child wants.
Why does everyone need to shoot him? Just cut him until he bleeds. The Americans and their fixation on guns. Nice parallel to Chloe though.
Lucifer trying to fix the relationship to Rory with gifts was so cringey. I don’t know why but I couldn’t watch him sing/dance in that scene.
Both him and Amenadiel didn’t want to become like their Dad because of the reasons stated in S5, yet Lucifer exactly did. Another letdown.

Chloe
As soon as she knew Rory was her and Lucifer’s daughter it was all only about Lucifer and Rory. No thought of Trixie? I understand she was worried about being a bad mother to Rory, but come on, you’re being a bad mother to your first child right now.
She was ready to go to heaven with Lucifer. And Trixie does what exactly without her parents? Living with her Grandma because one of her parent died and the other one is abandoning her? It’s like the writers forgot about Trixie while forcing Rory on us.
The addiction to the necklace got old pretty fast.
And that whole fight against Lucifer felt unnecessary just to add more drama.
She gets mad at Lucifer for not telling her everything while not telling him that she went back to the LAPD. It’s Lucifer, he always has things on his plate. Double moral, pretty much.
She looked so gorgeous at the wedding, oh my god.
Most of the Deckerstar scenes were good. I got tired of the obvious naked cuddle times, surprisingly. Somehow it felt not like the ones in S5 and it bothered me.
I thought Chloe would finally get to know about everything Lucifer did for her, but I didn’t expect her to read it in Linda’s book. And that she only took away that he left her every time they had an emotional breakthrough.
They spend Lucifer’s last day at the beach and once again, no thought of Trixie. I’m sorry I repeat myself here so often. But this whole season wronged Trixie so much.
They face the baddie without any backup.  At least get Amenadiel with you.
Other things
The use of music between scenes was too much for me. Got annoying at some point.
I appreciate that they wanted to show us snippets of past Deckerstar scenes but here too, I felt like it was too much.
Couldn’t really follow the timeline. Maybe it were the cuts.
What’s been the point of bringing Adam into the mix? Just to wrap up Maze and Eve’s story? For Linda having another celestial to therapy?
The animation in the Jimmy Barnes Hell loop was AMAZING. I laughed so hard.
I’m not saying that Deckerstar shouldn’t have sacrificed everything for the time loop to stay intact, I say that the whole daughter-time travel plot shouldn’t have had happened. They never even talked about having kids, and then ignore the whole existence of the one kid that’s already there.
I really need all the Michaella fanfics, please. My first ship that’s actually a raft, because they never officially have met. RIP lmao
The acting was great as usual, all my problems come from the writing and the plot.
In the end, I really feel frustrated, underwhelmed and disappointed by the whole season. I didn’t have high expectations other than the same writing quality like S5. My excitement for that Season died as soon as Rory told Lucifer that she’s his daughter, to be honest. I waited for a plot twist that never came. Then the whole time loop shit.  I’d rather have waited one more year for S6 if the plot would have made more sense, since this felt like a first draft of a whole other show. And now I wished that S5 would have been the last season. If I could travel back in time, I’d rather not watch S6.
I can honestly live with the fact that Luci and Chloe are in hell, trying to help souls to get to heaven. (But hello, not the murderers perhaps? Or I want Michael sitting on that couch right now.) But the fact that both “chose” to sacrifice their time together with their family and friends just because it’s fate now and parents have to make sacrifices for their children; and anyways there’s an afterlife because (human) life is just a blip in our existence… nah thank you. I do not want it.
I’m probably not gonna rewatch S6 anytime soon.

Your thoughts on the first episode of the new season? And can we talk about all those parallels? Also I'm loving the summer vibes!
I'm LIVING for the summer vibes! Doesn't everything feel like a breath of fresh air? I definitely feel like new life has been injected into the series. And that new location is so beautiful, I LOVE IT.
As for the episode, I thought it was masterfully done. You could tell Ayse was back and bringing the perfect mix of comedy, romance and drama. And the sparkle! The show sparkles again. The almost two and half hours flew buy, I was on the edge of my seat, and the performances from Hande and Kerem were amazing. Plus I just adore every moment between Serkan and his new nemesis (aka his secret daughter).
On the sober side, I don't care how jerky Serkan got while battling cancer, or how he may have pushed her away, nothing they've shown us so far even begins to justify Eda not telling him about Kiraz, and it certainly doesn't justify her continuing to lie when he's standing right in front of her making overtures (and her daughter is clearly longing for her father). Obviously, there are still many things we don't know and I'm sure there are many flashbacks to come, and Eda has been though so much, but still...I don't see how they will thread that needle and have Eda come out unscathed.
That being said, with this first episode they executed this story so well and it really does give new life to the series, so I won't dwell on the fact that Eda never would have done this. Never. We just have to move past it, accept that it's a soap opera plot device designed to give us an amazing second season packed with all sorts of amazing scenes and just enjoy every minute while it lasts.
(More under the cut)
I'll get to more on Edser later, as for everyone else... silliness abounds.
First... Erdem cheated on Leyla? WHAT!?!?! With whom? But I guess that was a clean way to explain Leyla leaving.
Engin and Piril, I love that Engin is staying home with their son, and that young actor is a cutie! As for Piril... GRRRRRR... she is still on my shitlist. Last time it was for betraying Eda (and Serkan) by enabling Selin's reign of terror, this time it's by betraying her friend and business partner Serkan! Good grief. If Piril just found out recently at the start of this project I could accept on her holding off because it's not her secret to run off and tell, but what I can't accept is her actively working against Serkan finding out. Even if in this episode she had gently said to Eda... "do you think maybe it's time you told him?" it would be a lot easier to swallow... but nope! She's acting like it would be the end of the world if Serkan found out. I sincerely hope that when everyone finds out and Engin finds out Piril knew, it causes problems between them. She deserves that.
She remains my second least favorite character. Who was my least favorite character this episode? Oh you know! Awful Ayfer is back! We got a reprieve from her in the last arc, but she's back to her annoying, controlling, Serkan-hating ways. Eda is a mother, an international award-winning landscape architect and business owner and she still has to lie to Ayfer because she's such a pain-in-the-ass? Watching her is going to be a trial.
Even though it feels like both Aydan and Ayfer were reset to zero character development, and Aydan has done worse (keeping the fact that Serkan was alive from Eda) I still find her a much easier character to take. Probably because Neslihan is a much better comedic actress, so she's a lot more entertaining. But... Aydan's been with Kemal for 5 years and hasn't told Serkan? WHY? I can't believe Kemal didn't give her an ultimatum years ago. I was loving, however, Serkan being in the way for both Aydan/Kemal and Engin/Piril. GOOD. Those people caused problems for him at one point or another or were in the way, it was nice to see him return the favor. I like Kemal and am still hoping they'll do a parallel "not knowing your father thing" and reveal he's Serkan's bio dad while Serkan is finding out he had a child he never knew about.
Melo and Seyfi were their awesome supportive, funny selves. It was great to see both of them, I'm so glad they stayed.
As for the new characters, love the kids. The new hotel manager is apparently ditzy and starstruck over Serkan, and I don't really understand how she's going to be integrated into the cast, but I love that she was used as a device to show us that Serkan has zero interest in any woman who is not Eda Yildiz. Eda's assistant seems like he'll be a fine side character. As for Burak, he seems harmless, obviously he has feeling for Eda that she does not reciprocate (fuck off Ayfer trying to push her on him) but hopefully they don't make him a psycho like Deniz. I did think he was a bit out of line to Serkan. Isn't that his cafe? And a customer has his glass spilled by a child in his care, and he insults him instead of apologizing? That is the worst customer service I've ever seen! He's a character that could wear on me quickly, we shall see. Kiraz can't help but be sassy because of genetics, but some of the adults in her life seem to be modeling rude behavior!
Now on to Eda and Serkan, I can't say enough about Hande and Kerem's acting in this episode. Phenomenal! They were both brilliant. Plus both are doing a great job working off of Maya (especially Kerem) those scenes were priceless. I don't often enjoy kids on shows, but so far I'm loving this dynamic.
As for Edser, while we don't know everything yet it feels like Serkan got to a point where he couldn't stand to see Eda in pain and putting her life on hold, he outright mentioned that she might not have graduated if they'd stayed together, and so that was part of the reason he reverted to his robot self and pushed her away. I'm going to guess she tried and tried and he was just unyielding. Saying he didn't want to get married or have kids in the harshest way possible. Perhaps even she went to tell him that she was pregnant and he went off on not wanting kids before she could even tell him. Time will tell.
At this juncture, my best guess is Eda's fear is rooted in rejection. It can't be that she thinks Serkan is a terrible person that doesn't deserve to know his child, or would be detrimental to Kiraz. However, she knows what it feels like to be rejected by Serkan, I'm sure she was beyond devastated, so I'm guessing now she's bent on protecting her daughter from feeling that same rejection. She fears if he found out, but wanted nothing to do with her, it would feel worse than him not knowing. She's not thinking clearly and perhaps it hasn't even occurred to her that the man she fell in love with is still under there and that man is fully capable of opening his heart wide to their child.
The fact that this child, a stranger to him, already has him wrapped around her little finger to the tune of being late to meetings while he waits for her to pick berries, speaks volumes.
The lies that Eda is telling Kiraz though... there is a fairy tale poetry to Eda saying her father is among the stars... but there was no way this would ever end well. Such a bad idea. Eda.... has made mistakes.
As for Eda and Serkan, their reunion was so bitter sweet. The way Serkan was sure he was hallucinating her and couldn't believe she was real, speaks to the fact that his thinking he saw her that morning was not an anomaly. It must happen all the time. She's never left his thoughts in 5 years. Especially since Engin makes it clear that women throw themselves at Serkan all the time, and he never bites. That's a lot of years celebrate, pining after a love he lost through his own actions. Though it's not that surprising that he didn't pursue other women, as he's never been a character who was motivated by sex. Which makes it hilarious that during his presentation that's where his mind was at, remembering their intimate times together. Serkan Bolat is an Edasexual.
Serkan seemed to want to brush past what happened between them, how they ended, but from Eda's pain, it's clear it was gut-wrenching and tragic and that's something he's going to need to recon with in the coming episodes. But how refreshing that they actually talked! That Eda actually expressed her pain to him! Wowza, that's a change from recent episodes when they didn't even have a proper conversation after he got his memory back.
The flashback scenes were a combination of pure brilliance and pain. Just rip out my heart why don't you. Serkan's angry reactions seem very believable for someone suffering what he was going through. I think it's typical to lash out at the person closest to you. And their fear and pain, their commitment to getting him better and seeing it through... those scenes were made all the more heartbreaking knowing that they didn't make it out the other side intact.
On a lighter note, I loved how even despite their intention and best efforts to remain closed off to one another, and away from one another, they couldn't. Physically, Serkan couldn't stay away, and every time Eda was in his presence you saw her resolve slip and her start to feel that old pull towards him. The fact that Eda thinks there's any way to keep this secret and get rid of him, she must just be in full panic mode and not thinking clearly. She's never going to shake him.
Thank goodness Serkan came back and actually issued a sincere apology for what he said at coffee. He definitely owed her one, but what was extraordinary is that it showed that the growth he went through when they were together didn't regress. He was able to apologize and explain that he was angry and hurt and that's why it happened. If you remember from the first time around, saying sorry was something he was just unable to do, so this felt big to me. He's not the same robot Bolat, she left an indelible mark on him.
As for him making her present her proposal, it's really not out-of-line for the professional relationship, however, we all know he did it just so he had an excuse to be around her. That man will take any excuse, plus he likes to get a rise out of her.
The dinner scene was breathtaking. How beautiful and achingly romantic was that setting? Wowza. And what a roller coaster of emotion those scenes were. It was great to watch them talk and laugh. Who didn't swoon when he deveined her shrimp and when she gave him fries? But we had to know it wouldn't last. Eda's speech had me breathless. Serkan had that coming, it hurt but it had to happen. What a relief to see them get things out in the open. Now I hope we get to see them really talk about what happened and why. Explain yourself Serkan!
As for the next episode, I was so hopeful that the Kiraz secret would be out after the final scene, but the first fragman makes it look like that's not going to happen, at least not at the start of the episode. My fear is that if Eda outright lies to him that just makes everything worse. The longer she keeps it from him, when they're back in each other's orbits and it's clear he's not running away, it makes her more and more at fault.
In any case, it looks like we're in for some fabulous scene so I look forward to the second episode!

Here's an Alan ask: what do you think those years in the gulag were really like for him? And if you were writing it, how would you have had it affect him? (Since in the show he's not phased at all, lmao)
Oh god, don't tempt me... 👀
I think the years in the gulag have to have been horrible and I don't think even someone like Alan could ignore that indefinitely. He implies at least once he woke up the middle of the cold night to find a rat gnawing at his private parts impressive of the rat to locate something so small. I get completely why Alan had to be unphased by all of this in s4 because his character needs to be confident and have this arrogant belief in his own indestructibility for the plotline and the comedy to work, much in the same way he is unphased in s3 after his hanging. S4E1, where he is hell-bent on revenge and murders Sarah's lover in a very graphic way, is perhaps the only explicit way in which we are shown how he's been affected. However...
Let's look at the facts: it's very fucking bleak for him personally once you remove the comedy. I think leaving him in the gulag was actually an attempt to end the show? Just as his shooting had been? We see that he appears genuinely shocked and - dare I say it? I dare - upset when Sarah rescues Piers instead of him. Like he never predicted this... Which just goes to show how arrogant he truly is. It's maybe one of two moments in the entire show (the other being that breakdown he has the night before his hanging, though granted a lot of that is self pity) where he arguably realises the negative side to being a completely uncaring and actively malicious bastard is that, when the crunch comes, you're alone and no one will help you.
I think he might have been in shock for the rest of the day after Sarah and Piers left, operating on autopilot with a certain vacancy about his expression, and that night something would have cracked. Whether he cracked in a loud way - say, someone just happened to get in his way for a bit too long and he beat the shit out of the them and got in trouble - or in a more quiet way - involving him lying in whatever constituted a bed, people sleeping all around him, while a deranged mixture of tears and a snarling grin spread across his features because he will get his revenge, they'll just see if he doesn't - is debatable. Both would be fun to write, maybe we could be greedy and have both.
In the gulag Alan will have had to work, continuously, with no end in sight, with none of the luxurious he is used to from life - and he's used to a fair few more than most of us. If the camp was all men or just segregated, there's not a big chance he's going to get his end away. And this was to be the rest of Alan B'Stard's life? A man so obsessed with money and power and sex that they're practically the only things he's interested in at all? What should he be reduced to if those things are ripped from him, and by Sarah no less? This was not how his life was supposed to play out.
Well, honestly, if we remove all of the comedy, I think it's got to send him into some kind of depressive funk. He'd feel awfully sorry for himself and would be incredibly angry and bitter, but with no real way to exorcise these feelings. I can see him finding the Piers-like members of the camp and holding whatever little influence he still has left over them - he definitely wouldn't be a nice person to be working in a labour camp indefinitely with - but he's been muzzled, no doubt about that. Doing all this manual labour and only for scraps might breed a bit of self loathing, secretly, alongside general indignation that he should have to do something so undignified.
Alan lost everything while he was in the gulag and being, as he tells us in S2E6, "a self-made lower middle class Tory who's pulled [himself] up by dint of [his] own talent and unscrupulousness" that's quite a big blow. The negative side to always looking out for number one has finally caught up with him. I don't think this would cause any great epiphany about how it's his fault he's here and how he deserves it because I don't think he honestly has enough goodness or humility inside him for that. Being kicked while he's down would likely just set off a cycle of festering resentment and self pity - I imagine something that might have sustained him would have been imagining all the violent ways he would end Sarah and Piers' lives if he ever saw them again. But, like I said, you're in the situation for so long? Knowing what you've lost? It's bound to depress you. Even if you're Alan B'Stard.
It makes sense that when Alan returns he seems absolutely fine, as I suppose he would never willingly let the likes of Sarah or anyone affiliated with the Conservative Party see him vulnerable or "weak". We know he is extraordinarily gifted at putting on facades. The show never explores how he may have been affected on a deeper level because it would have distracted from the main story and garnered too much sympathy for such a wicked individual, but I wouldn't be surprised if the gulag left him with some kind of PTSD, even if it's mild. I could see, maybe, @pizzagrlmeetsboy1980's Amelia coming in for that, even though it would probably disgust her on some level. I know this contradicts the whole "this man will always come back to get you, you can't put him down, he's a psychopath" thing Alan has going but... Even though he is evil incarnate, he is also human and we humans aren't infallible.
Although, I guess I'm being too realistic about the situation? 😂 Considering it's a comedy. But I know you were asking for angst and angst I am always happy to provide.

Thanks for the ask!

FULL REVIEWS: “Something Ventured, Someone Framed”
I’m not gonna lie. Gus isn’t exactly in my fave five Owl House characters. So imagine my interest when we get our first Gus-centric episode. I was curious. I wasn’t sure what to expect.
But I did hear that we were headed back to Hexside. The writer in me couldn’t help but ask why ban Luz from Hexside if you’re just going to have her enroll anyway?
Why? Here’s why:
Tumblr media
The cold open isn’t really funny, but it does set up the main plot of the episode. Gus is doing his thing at the Human Appreciation Society when a new kid, Mattholomule (thank you The Owl House wiki), tries to stir up some drama. He wants Gus out of the HAS and himself in as president. And this is why kids need video games. No video games equals bored kids. Bored kids think that taking over a school club is a worthwhile endeavor. It is not.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But I think this does say a lot about Gus as a character. He’s a kid trying to fit in a world of young teens. He’s trying to find ways to connect with them and not all of them work.
Matt (I’m not spelling Mattholomule every time) brings his own “human artifacts” and Gus tries to call him out by bringing an actual human to verify the validity of the artifacts. And we already know the one human in The Boiling Isles.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately not only is Luz banned from Hexside, but Eda still hates the place. I get it. I still hate my old junior high and high school too. Fuck those guys.
Luz is frustrated though because we’ve still only see Luz learn the one spell in a show about a girl learning to be a witch. I guess to be fair the show is called “The Owl House” and we are spending a lot of time in The Owl House. I mean if the show was called Little Witch Academia and we didn’t learn shit then that would be a rip off.
Wait.
Tumblr media
“I don’t want to hear another word about Hexside unless it’s, ‘Hexside’s on fire and let’s get front row seats.’”
I’d love to see my old schools burn down in flames too.
Then Gus pull the most common and laziest plot device ever: lying. Gus says he used his power and authority to get the ban lifted so Luz can visit. The fact that people still think the presidents of after school activities have any power whatsoever still makes my head shake. That’s just lame contrived plot points that only happens in cartoons and has no bearing on reality.
Wait.
Tumblr media
Willow of course knows that this is a horrible plan that would never work because it relies on the laziest of plot devices and we get a couple of funny ass jokes that made me laugh out loud but I don’t have the screenshots for because god damn you The Owl House wikia I needed you for one god damn thing and you let me down so hard and it’s like why even bother man what the hell man what the actual hell Avatar Spirit dot net has every single second screenshotted why can’t you why can’t you be more like Avatar Spirit dot net huh HUH?
Sorry. I lost my head for a second there.
But Willow asking if Luz always has confetti in her pockets did make me laugh. I just wanted to share it with all of you. You can’t tell because this is a text review but I’m sighing. Sigh for me. Okay. Moving on.
So apparently ever since Luz busted into Hexside, Principal Bump has employed these Dementor looking mf-ers to literally sniff out troublemakers and dear god they’re ugly. Before I started doing these reviews I legit forgot that this was supposed to be a horror-comedy and now like every other episode is reminding me.
So to keep Luz from being busted, Gus decides to give her a kinda tour and we see a bit more of the school.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Still safer than Hogwarts.
Gus and Luz finally head to the HAS meeting and Luz does a sweet moonwalk THAT I CAN’T FIND THE GIF OF and we had another joke that made me laugh out loud and I STILL DON’T HAVE THE SCREENCAP FOR, and Matt gives a really fake cringy speech that don’t want to watch ever again.
But of course Mattholomule busts Luz to the Dementors and they’re all sent to detention. No big deal.
Tumblr media
HOLY HELL! That’s detention?!? I take back everything I’ve ever said about Hogwarts.
...
...I take back some things I’ve said about Hogwarts.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile in the B-plot, Eda decides that if she doesn’t want Luz to end up like Hooty (hoot hoot), maybe she should enroll Luz into Hexside.
Principal Bump agrees but only on the condition that she cleans up the mess she made. And by “she” he doesn’t mean Luz; he means Eda.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is just some kind of sick revenge for Bump, isn’t it?
Eda does what she can to get herself on Bump’s good side so Luz can get into Hexside. Unintended rhyming aside, Luz and Gus get themselves and Mattholomule out of detention.
Tumblr media
Eda tells Luz that the only reason she’s doing this is because she knows Luz is too smart to fall for the coven system’s conformist ways. Gus takes the heat for Luz and Bump names Mattholomule president of the Human Appreciation Society. Go nuts, kid.
Tumblr media
Is that a fucking Ghostbusters reference?
FINAL SCORE: 3 - Meh
We get some big gamechangers in this episode. Luz is now enrolled into Hexside. So why ban Luz from Hexside when we were just going to enroll her in anyway? To show Eda’s character development. To me, that’s where the real big heart of the episode is. Eda hates Hexside and everything it represents but she’s willing to put that aside for Luz and her development. Compare that to the second episode where she mocked and laughed at Luz for wanting to be a chosen one.
There were two or three really funny jokes that made me laugh out loud. So why a three? I don’t wanna seem mean but I don’t know if Gus can really carry an episode yet. The jokes that made me laugh came from Luz, Willow and Eda. Not Gus. It’s not bad. It’s just not very memorable. I had to go back on my phone want watch some of it while I was writing this review. Which should not happen since this episode sets up a new status quo.
So the show had a bit of a dip, but the thing about dips is that they go right back up.
