when robin had had a particularly bad day, what always made her feel better were movies.

not even necessarily watching one (though she did love coming up with her own theories and analyzing the plot while watching a movie), simply getting to talk about a movie that interested her at the time sent happy sparks through her whole body.

before she met steve, she didn’t really have anyone who liked listening to her talk about her interests. sure, she could talk to her mom, but she always told her to talk a bit quieter (she did get quite loud when she got excited, steve confirmed once when she asked him about it) and didn’t really pay attention.

but with steve she knew that she could talk his ear off for a while and he wouldn’t mind. he knew how important those talks were to her, he might’ve even felt honored to be the one who got to listen to her talk about her favorite things (he told her this one time after she went down her usual “oh no i talk too much and you must hate me now”-road).

they would have movie nights (with lots of popcorn) together and steve wanted to hear all her theories about the movie they were currently watching, listened to her list off where he just HAD to know the actors from and if he didn’t know them they would add the other movie straight to their watchlist. of course his own theories were also thrown out there, and robin was more than ecstatic when one of their speculations came true throughout the course of the movie.

they would celebrate with even more popcorn.

Rewatching the Robin coming out to Steve scene is a gut punch in the best way.

When he’s still in the separate stall and he’s describing the girl he likes there’s a moment where Robin realizes it’s her and the look on her face is absolutely devastating. I can’t even really describe it but she just looks so sad and resigned and miserable and scared and I just…

It’s this moment when she’s realizing that she has two choices: she can reject Steve with no explanation and risk ending their friendship entirely, or she can confess this secret to a man she cannot fully know is safe in 1985. And she chooses the latter!!!! And part of it is that she’s a badass, and part of it is probably the truth serum or whatever, but I think it’s also that she doesn’t want to lose him.

Their friendship is important enough to her that she risks disgust, rejection, being publicly outed, even potential physical harm (she probably trusts Steve not to physically harm her at least but still) just to hopefully keep him in her life.
