Just Want to Feel UnLost

So this fic is completely for @lifewasradical my The Maine buddy, (my wife), who listened to The Maine for 7 hours today and also looped them for the last 4 days with me. Luke’s excited to go out on tour again. He’s been restless to do it, ever since announcing CALM and preparing for the shows. Luke can’t wait to get out on stage, put on his favorite outfits and makeup, to get up there and share their music with everyone, to sing his favorite songs over and over again. He’s been restless ever since they stopped touring last year and he can’t wait to go back out on the road and see everyone again.

He’s even more thrilled to be going out on tour because it means he can show off his ring. It means he can get up on stage every night and tell their fans over and over again about how much he loves Ashton, about how excited he is to get married, about how happy it makes him knowing that he and Ashton are finally going to formalize their love, that Luke gets to be Luke Hemmings-Irwin soon. He knows it’ll embarrass Ashton endlessly to be put on the spot like that, but Luke doesn’t care. He wants to tell everyone every single day how much he loves Ashton.

Luke’s been in a loop the last few days. While Ashton’s been playing through their set list, going downstairs for hours to practice the drums for all their songs, making sure he knows every note and change and that it's perfect, Luke’s been sitting outside listening to The Maine’s American Candy. He’s been stuck for days, looping the music again, happy and content. He knows he should be practicing, especially as the days to their first show approach closer and closer, but he can’t stop himself, plucking out the guitar chords of the songs, humming along to the music in his headphones. He’s been stuck on (Un)Lost now for a few days, caught up in the words of the song, the melody. The song’s always made him feel at home, John’s singing “Control what you can, Confront what you can’t, And always remember how lucky you are to have yourself,” sticks with him. The idea of not being found, but still feeling at peace in the work speaks to him in a way he never expected.

It’s how he feels about Ashton. Some days, Luke’s still not sure of himself, not sure of where he fits into the world, in his own body sometimes, but he always has Ashton. Ashton’s his home, his blanket, his comfort. Ashton always finds Luke, even when it’s hard for Luke to breathe, lost in the hazy of who he is and where he’s going, Ashton knows how to pull Luke back from the edge, give him a sense of being, ground him. Luke’s been focused on learning the song, wrapped up in connecting it to Ashton, of how much it reminds him of Ashton that he can’t focus on anything else, even their own music, for long enough to stop playing it.

It’s how Ashton finds him, two days before the tour is set to start. He’s outside again, sitting on a patio chair, humming along to (Un)Lost, testing the chords out on his guitar. He’d managed to convince Rian to ask John for the guitar chords to the song and he’s been determined to master them. Luke’s finally gotten them down enough that he can play the song without the music in front of him and he’s thrilled. He’s been out on the patio, hair pulled back with a headband, still wearing his pj shorts and one of Ashton’s old band shirts for the better part of the morning when Ashton joins him outside.

“Are you going to ever actually practice or are you just going to play this song while on tour?” Ashton asks, making his way over. Luke stops what he’s doing, turning his face up to Ashton. Wordlessly, Ashton leans down, kissing Luke on the lips, before sitting down next to him. Luke wrinkles his nose, trying to scoot away. Ashton looks at him, confused.

“You’re all sweaty,” He says, laughing when Ashton purposely tries to wrap his arms around Luke, pulling him in close.

“It’s cause I’ve been practicing for our show, unlike some people,” He teases. Luke sticks his tongue out, setting his guitar down to curl up next to Ashton.

“I just really like this song.”

“Which one?” Ashton asks. Luke holds an earbud out to Ashton. Ashton takes it, sticking it in his ear. Luke plays it again, watching Ashton bop along to it next to him.

“Why do you like that one?”

“What do you mean?”

“It just sounds sad. ‘Not looking to be found’ and ‘being unaware of where you’re going.’ Usually you like happy songs. What on Earth made you pick this one?”

“It’s not sad. It’s hopeful. You don’t have to be found or know where you’re going, just that you have a purpose to what you’re doing and that you want to be yourself. I like it. It makes me feel better about being who I am. Besides it reminds me of you,” Luke says, taking his earbud back and setting his phone down.

“Me?”

“Yeah. You help me not feel so lost sometimes. Like, even when I’m confused or uncertain, I know that I always have you to guide me along. Without you, I wouldn’t be confident wearing all the lingerie and makeup that I do. You’ve always encouraged me to just be true to myself. You help me take that leap because I know that no matter what, you’ll catch me,” Luke says. Ashton’s quiet next to him, humming slightly.

Luke glances over at Ashton, blushing when he sees how intensely Ashton’s staring at him. Ashton leans over, pulling Luke into a kiss, peppering them along Luke’s cheeks, his nose, his neck when Luke starts to laugh, squirming in Ashton’s grasp.

“You’re gonna get me all gross,” Luke complains in mock offense, giggling and snorting when Ashton just tugs him closer, rubbing over him.

“Well, then we can just take a shower after and I can make you coffee and make you practice our actual music,” Ashton says. Luke laughs again, squealing a little when Ashton squeezes his waist, where he’s ticklish. Ashton does it again, smiling mischievously when Luke laughs again, saying Ashton’s name over and over again while Ashton torments him.

“I’m so close to learning this song though,” Luke whines when Ashton finally stops. Ashton stands, smirking as he picks Luke up in a bridal carry, causing Luke to shriek again, clinging onto Ashton’s shoulders.

“Unless you plan to play that song at our show, you have to actually practice our music. Since that’s what people are paying to see and if you miss up any of the words, you know they’ll tease us about it forever. Look what happened with Waste the Night,” Ashton says, carrying Luke inside and up towards their bedroom. Luke pauses, thinking about it. It’s actually not a bad idea for him to play the song on tour. He’s sure he can text Rian, get the number for John and ask (beg) to play the song live. He wants to show off Ashton to everyone, show that he’s engaged to Ashton in front of everyone. This song could be that, showing Ashton his love and appreciation every night, over and over again. What band can argue with that? They got Mark Hoppus to let them cover What’s My Age Again, and this would have to be easier to get permission for. Luke vows to get on his phone as soon as Ashton gets distracted and he can put his plan into motion. It has to be a surprise.

Luke’s vibrating with excitement backstage. He’s been so pumped for the last 30 minutes, jumping around happily and practicing his notes in the corner in between sips of his vodka and cranberry juice. Micahel’s rolled his eyes, calling him unbearably annoying and shoving him off, but he’s giggling just as widely, plucking out notes on his guitar and laughing along with Luke when he starts singing the opening notes of She Looks So Perfect. It’s the first show of the tour, the first night they get to go out on stage in front of everyone and the energy in the room is unmatched. Luke feels at home here, with his best friends, his soulmates, getting ready to do the thing they love.

Despite how careful Luke is about what he wears on stage, he’s dressed up special for tonight, wearing a black sheer bra and panty set, covered in red and pink embroidery florals and little green vines stitched into it under his red silk shirt and leather trousers with his gold glitter boots. He’s wearing his gold eyeshadow and gold nail polish to match, highlighter dusting his cheeks, body glitter sparkling where his shirt is open, light pink gloss on his lips. He feels bolder tonight with his engagement ring and the thrill of starting a new tour and knowing what he’s going to do on stage.

Ashton hasn’t taken his eyes off Luke since they got backstage. He’s watched Luke get ready, watched him put on his makeup, watched his mouth, his throat, everytime he takes a drink from his cup. He’s been staring at where Luke’s shirt is open, the edges of the lacy lingerie peeking out. Luke can’t see it, but he knows Ashton’s been looking at his ass in his trousers too whenever he turns around. Luke knows that Ashton loves the leather trousers, loves how Luke looks in them. Luke put them on in the hopes of what might happen after the show, but if the way Ashton’s looking at him, all heat and open desire, is anything to go by, Luke thinks he might be able to talk Ashton into starting now, before they go on stage.

Luke corners Ashton in the bathroom when Ashton excuses himself. He ignores the knowing glances and eyebrow wiggles from Michael and Calum in favor of chasing after Ashton, darting into the room behind him and locking the door.

Ashton glances over at Luke in the sink mirror, making eye contact with him while he washes his hands. Ashton’s wearing a tight black button down shirt with tight black pants, both showing off his muscles, the material strained around his biceps and thighs. He’s styled his hair, dyed black, in his older Rockabilly style, one curl escaping the hold to fall into his eyes, and he hasn’t shaved in at least a day, stubble covering his cheeks. It makes Luke a little dizzy with want, imaging Ashton pinning him down and fucking him later, rubbing his face into Luke’s neck, over his skin, leaving him red and raw.

“Can I help you?” Ashton asks, aiming for casual, but just coming off as excited. Luke crosses the room quickly, pining Ashton against the sink and kissing him. Ashton gasps into the kiss, tilting Luke’s head to deepen the kiss, and flipping them, pining Luke to the counter. Luke moans into the kiss, throwing his arms around Ashton’s neck and hooking his leg around Ashton.

Ashton pulls back from him, panting a little, gazing up at Luke, “You look so fucking hot Bambi. God, your legs just go on and on for miles. Could eat you up.”

Ashton presses kisses to Luke’s neck, nipping at the skin. Luke gasps, rubbing against Ashton, trying to create friction between them, dick hard. He moans when Ashton bites him a little harder, getting a hand on Luke’s ass and pressing him closer.

“Sap. Come on, we’ve gotta be on stage in 10 minutes and I’m worried the guys will start looking for us soon.”

Luke giggles, letting Ashton tug him out of the bathroom, enjoying the sensation of how raw his thighs feel rubbing against the leather. It’s grounding, a reminder of Ashton he’ll get to wear for the rest of the night, even if Calum and Michael keep giving Luke knowing glances when they get back.

The show starts without a hitch. They make it through the opening number, through the stage banter, through half the set list without forgetting the chords or the words or what they’re doing. Luke’s gotten to make at least 3 announcements about his engagement, held his ring up for everyone to see, called Ashton his soon to be husband enough times that he thinks Ashton’s face is just permanently red. It’s thrilling, everytime he gets to say he’s going to marry Ashton in front of everyone. Luke knows he’s going to have to play the song soon, knows it’s built into the set list right before Amnesia, so Ashton won’t be ready to play drums, but will still be surprised. It worked it out with Michael and Calum and their crew a few days, set it all up so everyone’s ready.

“So, this next song is actually a cover,” Luke announces, glancing behind him. Ashton’s frozen, mid sip of water, confusion on his face.

“Is it really Luke?” Michael says into the mic, grinning at Luke, eyes flitting between the two of them.

“It is. Not many people know this, but I love The Maine. I love them so much that Ashton, my fiance, probably sings them in his sleep because of how much I play them. And do you know what else I love? Ashton. He’s the love of my life, my heart and soul, and I wanted to give him my own gift. This song is called (Un)Lost. I wanted to dedicate this to Ash, who’s always been my rock, my grounding force. Even when I’m lost and confused, Ashton always guides me home, guides me back to myself. He always reminds me to love myself and to be myself. He’s helped me grow in so many ways and I can’t possibly put into words how much I love him, so I wanted to play this song for him,” Luke says, half turned, staring at Ashton. Ashton’s mouth is opened in a silent “o,” frozen in place behind his drum kit. Luke plays the opening notes, hands working automatically to play the song he’s learned to play over the last week, words coming to him easily. Michael joins him, playing his own guitar chords, working in harmony with Luke as he stares at Ashton. He’s trying to will Ashton to understand him, to hear him as he says I’m not looking to be found, just want to feel unlost, wills Ashton to understand what Luke’s trying to say to him.

He finishes the song, plays the last note, staring at Ashton. There’s a beat where Ashton sits there silently before jumping up from behind his kit, crossing the stage in quick strides, wraps his arms around Luke and kisses him, tipping Luke backwards slightly. Luke stumbles, tilted backwards and off balance, before Ashton wraps his arm around him, steadying him while he keeps kissing him. Luke’s sure Ashton will keep kissing him, that he’ll keep kissing Ashton, if it wasn’t for Calum’s loud wolf whistle into the microphone, Michael’s laughter telling them to keep it in the bedroom. They pull apart, nose to nose while Ashton stares intensely into Luke’s eyes.

“I love you. I love you, so much I forget to tell you because it’s just part of who I am. I’ll find you over and over again if I have to, I’ll be your home, I’ll be whatever you need because I love you,” Ashton whispers, low enough that no one else can hear them.

Luke tears up, reaching a hand up to brush a sweaty curl behind Ash’s ear, “I love you too. You’re my other half. I’ll be your rock, your everything as long as you’ll have me.”

Ashton grins, pressing a quick kiss to Luke’s lips before letting him go, letting him straighten up, regain his balance and remembering where he is. Michael and Calum are already teasing them both as Ashton goes back to the drum kit, but Luke can’t possibly care. He loves Ashton completely and wholly and everyone knows it. Luke doesn’t want to be found, he just wants to feel unlost, wants to feel purpose and he has that with Ashton. What more could he want?

10. how would you describe your style?

I guess it would be pretty basic for a girl my age and my generation - I like high-waisted jeans and graphic shirts and tank tops and denim skirts and that kind of stuff. Although if I had the money and the confidence I'd buy so much vintage clothing, especially from the 40s and 50s because I think it's so beautiful - I already have a rockabilly-inspired dress and it's my favorite thing. And my go-to accessory that's also inherently part of my style are bandanas (I blame Ashton Irwin).

it's very very pale, very very thin, and dry. a mess to look after, especially in the summer.

87. are you outgoing or shy?

I like to call myself a shy extrovert, meaning that I am an extrovert as in I like attention, I like social situations, I like making plans etc., but I'm awful at making the first move or engaging conversation. make of that what you want!

“Door’s open!” Ashton yelled, as Y/N kicked her shoes off in the hall.

“Good thing I didn’t knock, then.” She said, slinging her bag off her shoulder.

“Good thing,” Ash said, but as he came round the corner he already had his arms out for a hug. Y/N didn’t hesitate; she let him fold her into his chest. Fuck, she’d missed him.

She let herself have this moment. It had been months, she hadn’t seen him in ages, she could hold him for a minute without causing suspicion.

If she was honest with herself, she’d been crushing on him for a while. Well, a crush a like a steamroller. It usually wasn’t a problem - he’d been on tour for so long she’d started to think she was over it. When he texted her, though, asking to meet up - dear Jesus god, all that came flooding back.

I mean, it was Ash. Who wouldn’t be caught up?

Before things got weird, she pulled herself away. “How’s it going, rockstar?” She grinned, folding her arms across her chest to keep them busy.

“Oh, you know, same old, same old.” Ashton ran a hand through his hair. He was glad to see her - she could tell, he didn’t smile like that for just anybody. She’d really missed him. “International tour, you know, really boring.”

“Yeah, sure sounds like it.“ Y/N teased. “You bring me anything good?”

“Oh, god, Mikey bought the weirdest food in Japan, you’re gonna love it. How are you? How’s- how’s everything?” He said, reaching out to put a hand on her elbow. They were still stalled in his entryway, beaming at each other. It was always like this, after a long break. It would have been too easy to fall into each other’s laps again, they had to get used to being familiar.

Plus Ash was always more touchy when he hadn’t seen her for a while. Y/N was pretty sure it was because he hung out with the boys so much on tour and they were all sorta clingy, but it always made her a little sad when the light touches faded.

Y/N shrugged. She didn’t want to talk about Paul right now. “You know me. Just school, and work, and - oh, my god, you need to hear about this kid in my psych class, you’re gonna go nuts.” Y/N couldn’t look at that smile of his much longer without combusting. She linked her arm through his, dragging him towards the living room instead. “Come on, I want to watch Thor: Ragnarok.”

“You still haven’t watched it - Y/N-”

“I was saving it for you!”

“…you’re ridiculous.”

“- and this other guy, I’m handing over the coffee and he goes ‘many thanks, milady’ like not even joking! Like I like the shop fine and all but why can’t hipsters be normal people?”

“They can’t be all bad.” Ashton mused. Thor: Ragnarok had come and gone, and now they were half-watching some trashy crime procedural surrounded by snack wrappers.

“You say that because you are one, rockabilly daydream.” Y/N said. She was feeling a little less overwhelmed by his presence, which was good; Ash would definitely notice if she blushed every time their hands brushed in the chip bag.

She took a deep breath. She might as well tell him. “…Paul started coming by the store.”

She felt Ashton shift beside her. “Is he bothering you again?” She didn’t blame him for his apprehension; after their breakup Paul had shown up at the coffee shop where she worked until she got her coworkers to keep running interference.

“No.” She said. “A little? It’s not bad this time. The first time he came in he didn’t even talk to me, he ordered from the other girl and he barely looked me in the eye. And like, yeah, don’t talk to me, you were creepy as hell to me after we broke up.”

“Wait, the first time? He keeps coming back?” Ashton said. Y/N tried not to jump when he grabbed her hand. “Y/N-”

“It’s really not like the last time.” She said, refusing to meet his hazel eyes. She didn’t like talking about boys with him, it always seemed to get weird, but with Paul she didn’t know what to do and Ash was her best friend. She needed his help. “He’s been, like, civilized. I mean, he started asking me more about my classes than he did when we were together, so that was nice.” Ashton didn’t respond. He kept staring at her. If it wasn’t for the easy grip of his hand on hers she would have thought he was angry.

“He asked you out, didn’t he?” Maybe he was mad. Y/N let herself turn to look at him, stomach twisting. Ashton’s face was unreadable, but his tone was intense, like he was trying to tear a hole in something.

Y/N probably should have known he’d catch on. “You think it’s a bad idea to say yes?”

“Did you?”

“Not yet.”

“Good. It’s such a fuckin’ stupid idea. Y/N, you remember what he was like. He didn’t want you to go out, he got mad when you didn’t text him in the middle of classes. He wasn’t good for you. Like, I still don’t want him near you.” Ashton said. He wasn’t letting go of her. Y/N tried not to think about it. It wasn’t in the way she wanted, so she wasn’t gonna dwell on it. He was her best friend, of course he’d get riled about Paul - Y/N hadn’t really been planning on saying yes anyways, but she had needed to talk to someone about it first.

Y/N found herself sighing. “Figured you’d say something like that.” She mumbled, turning herself a little further away. On TV someone was showing a model of DNA. How funny that the same thing held seven billion people together, even if she felt like she was falling apart.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Ashton take a peek at her, then turn back to her. “You really like him?” He said, voice gentle again. She was never gonna get used to how he sounded when he talked real low to her.

“I dunno.” She kept her eyes fixed on the TV. “I miss it sometimes. I don’t- um, people don’t really fall in love with me every day, and like - sometimes I think that’s the love I’m supposed to get. It’s dumb, I know.” That was enough moping, she told herself. She was here to have a good time with her friend, not- whatever the hell this was. She wiggled her hand out of his grip, letting it fall, purposeless, to her side. “Not like you’d have that problem, Ash-” She said a little louder, turning to him.

Ashton didn’t respond. He was still looking at her, and unbidden Y/N felt her cheeks heat up. Her smile, her brave face, drops. “Ash?” She said.

He grabbed the back of her neck, but he doesn’t yank her in; Y/N felt the couch shift as he moved, and then he was kissing her. She could feel the tension, the intent, in his mouth. It doesn’t feel like he’s testing the waters; this felt like the deep end. It’s quick, but even as he pulled away she was trying to memorize the way he’d moved his lips against hers.

Y/N’s so startled she can’t even tell if she kissed back, but as Ashton leans his forehead against hers and takes a shaky breath she grabs handfuls of his shirt to keep him there. “You deserve so much love, Y/N. You deserve better. It- it doesn’t have to be me, but you deserve better than him.”

She still can’t say anything - she thinks maybe her breath’s not reaching her lungs - and Ashton starts to pull away. “We can just forget this,” he said into the meagre space between them, even as her grip keeps him in place. As he spoke, his hands went to hers, trying to untangle them. “I shouldn’t have-”

“No,” she said, pulling him in to kiss him again. Can that be right? Is this really happening? His mouth tastes like those Mountain Dew Cheetos they’d been trying, but she doesn’t care, it’s him, it’s her Ash. When she let him go he still stayed close, peeling her hands off his shirt to wrap them in his, and pulled back just enough for them to be able to see each other.

“Let me take you out,” he said, and Y/N was already nodding but he continued. “I know with my work I’m - it’s not great timing, I know, but just give me one night.”

She shook her head. “You don’t have to take me anywhere.” She said, just as desperate. “You don’t have to do anything, just let me be with you.”

Ashton was smiling again, looking at her like it was the only thing he ever wanted to see. “Nah, baby,” and it surged through her, that she could be his baby, “I’ve been thinking about it, I really wanna just treat you for a night. I was gonna wait till tour was over, but - now that I’ve seen you, and with your ex trying to drag you back in I don’t think I can wait.”

Y/N doesn’t want to wait, either. She knows he’s not gonna be around too long, so she’s just gonna take as much of his time as she can while he’s offering. She let herself flop into his chest and immediately his arms closed around her, like she fit. “I didn’t know you liked me.” She said into his shirt. “I thought you’d never even look at me.”

“You’re crazy.” He said, tucking her head under his chin. She took a deep breath; she couldn’t wait until he made her smell like him. “You’re the only reason I come to this goddamn city. I didn’t want to drag you into this- my life’s a mess, I’m gone so much. You’re gonna give me a chance, right?”

Y/N would give him everything. “I always thought - this is stupid - big rockstar, you’d just take what you wanted and if you wanted me-”

“You think so?” Ashton said, smile in his voice, before he launched forwards, using his leverage on her to get her flat on her back. Y/N laughed as she went down. She still couldn’t totally believe this was happening- “’Cause right now I wanna to kiss you.” He said, hovering over her.

“You stallion.” Y/N teased, but when he kissed her they were both smiling so much it almost fell apart.

For their new video for hit single "Youngblood," the guys of 5 Seconds of Summer opted not to appear on camera at all. And while that may seem like a major bummer to fans, the final result is so thrilling, wild, and special that you actually won't mind at all.

The Tokyo-set video opens with an elder couple taking a pill to re-live their youth for a final 24 hours, transporting them back to the '50s. The actors in the video are part of the real Rockabilly scene in Japan, a subculture marked by rebellion, leather jackets, motorcycles, cigarettes, tattoos, and slick pompadours. It's almost like the grittier, Japanese version of Grease, and the video manages to chronicle an enduring love story while also diving into a vibrant Asian subculture not often seen on screen.

In a press release, 5SOS drummer Ashton Irwin explained, "The Japanese Rockabilly culture is that of a renaissance and a beautiful flare of passion for everything old and new and that makes this particular subculture so interesting and amazing to us. … Thank you for allowing us to be explorative with the concepts we choose to visually express our songs to you."

The video's director, Frank Borin, added that he was inspired by a trip he took to Japan 10 years ago, when he stumbled on a group of Rockabilly guys and girls. He said, "The band were really into the idea of highlighting the rockabilly crew and we hung out with them for a couple days. They took us around Tokyo and gave us a peak into their world which really lent itself to the spirit of the song and ultimately became the video."

5SOS guitarist Michael Clifford — who's currently in Japan for the band's Meet You There Tour — added on Twitter, "Watch this with an open mind and I promise you won’t be disappointed." Well said!

Howard "Sparky" Dean Childress, Sr.

Howard Dean Childress, Sr., 76, of Chesnee, SC passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at his home. Born April 21, 1943 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late William Harrison Childress, Sr. and Margaret Mae Emory Childress of Clifton, SC. Howard was a graduate of Cowpens High School, attended University of South Carolina-Spartanburg, and was retired from Milliken after 45 years of service as a Business & Market Development Manager in the Chemical Division. He was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church and was a life-member of Clifton-Sunrise Masonic Lodge 215. An original member of The Sparkletones, a musical group that formed in 1955 and quickly rose to fame with numerous hit songs and three gold records, Howard made appearances on The Nat King Cole Show, The Ed Sullivan Show, and American Bandstand. The Sparkletones are enshrined in The Rockabilly Hall of Fame and on The Spartanburg Music Trail. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Brenda Carter Childress; children, Kimberly Childress Ward and Howard Dean Childress, Jr. (Sheri); grandchildren, W. Ashton Ward (girlfriend, Chelsea), William D. Ward, Carter C. Childress, and Madeline E. Childress; a sister, Nancy Childress Norton; and a host of nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly. He was also predeceased by a sister, Barbara Childress Emory and a brother, William Harrison Childress, Jr. Howard loved his family and the Lord with a fierce but gentle heart. Although he was an accomplished musician, the greatest instrument he ever played was himself; leading by example in godly service to others, always smiling and offering guidance, support and assurance to family and friends whenever needed. He was loved dearly and will be greatly missed by many. Visitation will be 6:00–8:00 PM Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday, December 5, 2019, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, by The Rev. Jeff Dellinger. Burial, with Masonic rites, will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Hot Winter Activities To Try In Nashville This Holiday Season

Even though Music City rarely dips below freezing in winter, there’s still lots of cool activities that will delight visitors this December. Check out the list below and plan some festive fun for the whole family! We found activities perfect for the Nashville natives as well as the lucky tourists visiting Music City during the most wonderful time of the year.

1) Gaylord Opryland’s “A Country Christmas”

ICE! Ice tends to feel twice as nice inside and you’ll experience tons of bundled-up festive fun as part of “Ice!” and many more of Gaylord Opryland’s “A Country Christmas” wintry mix of events. There’s a chill in the air as you walk throughout the 2 million pounds of sculptures – and it’s not just because How the Grinch Stole Christmas is this year’s theme. The room is kept at a steady nine degrees that features four two-story tall ice slides and a crystal-clear Nativity. Other activities you’ll flip over include ice skating on an 8,000 square-foot rink, ice tubing on the lawn, carriage rides and an on-so-sweet gingerbread decorating corner. You can enjoy a delicious meal and meet the Grinch while you’re feasting! The interactive dining experience includes a buffet of Who-ville- inspired items and table-side visits with The Grinch. Elsewhere on Gaylord ground, every light in and outside (there’s at least 3 million of the holiday variety) of Gaylord Opryland’s house is on as country superstar Trace Adkins performs featured standards from his 2013 release The King’s Gift on select dates in the resort’s Tennessee Ballroom through Christmas Day. 2) Walmart’s Holiday Spectacular

It may not be Santa Claus or Candy Cane Lane, but on December 17 the Walmart at 204 North Anderson Lane in Hendersonville intends to festively rival these names. How? Well if you follow the wheels on the loads of tour buses that typically go round and round you’ll find that they’re opening up their doors as part of the annual Christmas 4 Kids outreach in the store’s holi-dazed paradise of a parking lot. From 5 to 9PM, fans will get an opportunity to meet some stars and climb aboard their parked tour buses. The annual bus show raises money to fund holiday shopping sprees at Walmart for more than 400 local school children. Those scheduled to appear include 3 Doors Down, Adairs Run (who recently performed on USA Network’s Real Country); talented songstress Ashton Shepherd (with top 20 singles “Takin’ Off This Pain,” “Sounds So Good,” and “Look It Up” to her credit), Craig Wayne Boyd, Kimberly Schlapman of Little Big Town, Tennessee favorites The Young Fables (who’ve also performed on Real Country), Lee Greenwood, rockabilly renaissance man Eric Heatherly (whose new album Matchbook Rendezvous will be released next year) and many more. 3) The Oak Ridge Boys’ Shine the Light On Christmas Tour

Spruce things up with a special show from some iconic country crooners. The one-of-a-kind Oak Ridge Boys are wrapping their holiday tour season up in style as their popular Shine the Light On Christmas Tour arrives on December 23 at Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center. If the previews are any indication then the Boys are more prepared to pull out all the stops and then some at this jubilant event (presented without orchestra). This show is nearing sold-out status so hurry and get your tickets at nashvillesymphony.org to avoid a blue Christmas.

4) Vince Gill and Amy Grant at the Ryman

Harmonious husband-and-wife duo Vince Gill and Amy Grant are settling in for so many of their famed Christmas shows at the “Mother Church” that they may as well be pitching a tent (or paying rent). Rodney Crowell, John Jorgensen and Hannah Sutherland open. Remaining dates of their 12 days/nights stand are December 16-20 and once more on the 23rd. “These holiday tours have become our favorites,” chimes Vince. Tickets HERE!

5) Cheekwood Botanical Gardens’ Holiday “LIGHTS” Experience

Brighten up the season: Stroll in and around Cheekwood Botanical Gardens’ Holiday “LIGHTS” experience featuring one million bright bulbs along the one -mile walking path. Visit with reindeer, enjoy seasonal drinks such as hot chocolate and cider, be crooned by carolers, see a 500+ poinsettia tree, roast a marshmallow and maybe even meet Santa! 6) The Country Music of Hall of Fame and Museum

Hall aboard! The Country Music of Hall of Fame and Museum is gifting an impressive display of offerings to visitors during its Deck the Hall events. “Tour and Concert: A Legendary Holiday” gets underway December 15 with a tour of historic RCA Studio B and music from Jason Coleman and Meagan Taylor. Shake things up and make mini-museum exhibit snow globes in the Hall’s creative zone, or take in a movie with a screening of the legendary “Whisperin’” Bill Anderson’s 1968 A Country Christmas on December 23 from 11AM to noon. Speaking of flicks, on a (loosely) related note we would be remiss not to mention everyone’s favorite classic Christmas film Die Hard. It’s bursting onto the Belcourt screen with a vengeance on December 15 at midnight.

7) Bring Your Pets to Meet Santa!

If you’re in the vicinity of Goodlettsville and want to extend the warm and fuzzy feelings along to your furry friend then chin up! Good tidings for you. 8) The Old Crow Medicine Show

Feeling a dreary winter cold coming on? Cure it with a good fix from the Old Crow Medicine Show. On December 30 and 31 the much-beloved Americana-ian band of merrymakers are building a Nashville nest for themselves as the Opry-member and GRAMMY-winning group swoop into the Ryman Auditorium for a two-night residence to close out the year. Curious as to just what kind of raucous Ryman nights you might experience with these fowl folkists? Here’s a quote from lead vocalist Ketch Secor (upon OCMS’s Opry induction) to give a good glimpse.

“We the Old Crows are just so proud to be entrusted to carry on the traditions of the Grand Ole Opry’s good-natured riot.”

9) John Prine at the Opry House

Lastly but not leastly, if the thought of ringing in the new year gives you hot and cold fever (and, ya know; leaves you in a cool cool sweat) then you’re in luck. John Prine plus prime openers Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats (with special guest Iris Dement) take the Opry House stage at 8PM on December 31. More info and tickets HERE.
