ok but like, has anyone else noticed that in the beginning of BP:WF, Shuri’s wardrobe is mostly white and at the end of the movie she’s wearing black???
In traditional African culture, white is the color used to symbolize death and grief for funerals
and then, at the very end of the film when everything is over, Shuri is wearing black while burning the funeral clothes.
I think it’s really cool how ever detail in this movie symbolizes Shuri’s grief and development as a character, and the clothes show that. Big fuckin props to Ruth E. Carter

2100 COSTUMES DIRECTLY INSPIRED BY AFRICAN AND MAYAN CULTURE
the level of difference in effort, care, detail, and inspiration ... it's embarrassing.
I collected some of the above from different posts and articles so I could have everything in one place, so, sources: black widow and far from home, digital costumes in endgame, Ruth Carter's costumes (definitely check out this article, it has a lot of cool details!) black panther set (1), black panther set (2),

One Dress a Day Challenge
November: Oscar winners
Wakanda Forever / Angela Bassett as Queen Ramonda
Year: 2022
Designer: Ruth E. Carter
After the success of Black Panther in 2018, Ruth E. Carter and Angela Bassett both continued to knock it out of the park with Queen Ramonda's costumes in Wakanda Forever. The queen wears this two-toned purple velvet gown to address the UN in the opening sequence. As with many other onscreen purple dresses, it looks considerably deeper in color in the movie than when seen offscreen. According to Ms. Carter, it took four to six months to create.
As in the first film, a 3-D printer was used to create the collar and crown. I found out the crown is modeled on a style of headdress worn by Zulu married women, called an isicholo.

Monday MCU
From the Weta Workshop.
The first step was to resolve the fit, and movement using hand-made prototypes in a heat-formable black foam.
Once this was working on the body, we scanned these individual parts, and our talented ZBrush artist, Fabio Paiva, added in the details and ornamentation.
Next, they were 3D printed. Then the gold and jade texture was added by our props team before the final parts went to be molded for reproduction.
The red cloak is a unique and custom-made fabric, woven using a floor loom. The costume’s designer, Ruth Costume Design, Inc. wanted this cloak to be special. We used a combination of hand-weaving techniques to create this lovely fabric, which is quite thick, but also open and flowing with an interesting undulating pattern.
Our crew wove the cloak using two different shades of red linen yarn as well as stripes of lustrous gold thread and strands of tiny gold beads.
Our textiles crew wove and beaded this arm band by hand and small, yet special details were added throughout the costume such as this more translucent ‘stone’ crafted to look as though it were made from pearl.

Alfre Woodard on Crooklyn (1994) for R29:
“To my knowledge, we hadn’t seen a Black family that was just presented as we are in life, as human beings,” Woodard said. “I get told in Belgium by white Belgians ‘I love Crooklyn, it reminds me of growing up.’ Which is what happens when you tell a story from a specific point of view, you don’t have to mention race. You didn’t get up this morning like ‘I’m a black woman that wants a cup of coffee.’ You just want a cup of coffee. It was us as we are. Just us being fabulous, complex, funny, delightful, and making ends meet. And seeing, even within that story, that we’re not monolithic...The specificity is what makes it universal. Diversity is not the point; showing reality is the point.”
