Friendly little post of what to expect from the Chinese GP next week!
Our 1st of 6 sprint races this season:
Drivers will have 1 practice session to get acquainted to the track before the sprint shootout(quali). Next day, we start with the sprint race and then move onto the actual qualifying. Finally, race on Sunday as usual.
What does this mean?
If an accident or issue happens on track during the FP session, drivers will lose out on the only practice time they have. Drivers also must be careful not to damage their cars in practice or the sprint race lest they run the risk of not making either qualifyings. This will be extremely important for the three teams who don't possess a spare chassis.
Surface repavement!
The track surface has been repaved in order to prevent any unwanted bumps in the track from hurting these cars and provide a smoother ride.
What does this mean?
Any possibility of rain can make the track super dangerous, paired with the absolute lack of rubber on the track these cars provide. A repaved track can be your gateway into red flagged sessions over track issues or accidents if a driver pushes a bit too hard on a low rubbered area of track.
Note: the rubber that comes off the tyres are essential for grip, hence why you see faster times being posted later in sessions as more rubber is laid down and grip rises.
An interesting and for a few, new, layout!
China is a very interesting circuit with 2 long straights, two slow speed and tight first turns, and very few true high speed turns. On top, there is only 2 DRS zones placed back to back with the straights really close to each other. On top of this, 4 current drivers have not ever driven this track before (minus sim). Those drivers are Oscar Piastri, Logan Sargeant, Yuki Tsunoda, and Zhou Guanyu (not only his home race, but his home city race as he is from Shanghai!). No reserve driver besides Antonio Giovinazzi of Ferrari has driven this circuit either as Mick Schumacher just missed out due to covid.
What does this mean?
The teams that lack straight line speed may struggle significantly within the first few laps before the back essentially falls apart if they are not able to utilize the 16 turns as their aid. On the contrary, teams who may be stronger at straight line speed could see the turns really hurt them and they'd need to utilize these two straights to the best of their abilities.
However, the most important part about this track is the first and last turns. Usually you'll always see action within the first few turns of a track. At the Shanghai circuit, turns 1-3 is a very tight hairpin-esque turn which not only curls in on itself before turning to a tight turn the opposite direction, it will maybe be the first place we see any action or even none at all. However, our last 3 turns may also be of interest as well. Turn 14-15 is a combined turn like the first 3, however not as tight. This means that this is essentially the hairpin on the track and if a driver makes a move further down the long straight, their approach and exit out of this turn will cement their position, at least for the time being. Turn 16 is a somewhat sharp turn that will see any finishing or comeback moves for the hairpin, especially since the DRS detection point is right before the turn. At the end of this tiny straight, as well, is the pit entry where we could see drama arise with any miscommunication if there is any (it is the more extended out version of the Belgian/Spa pit entry).
Weather forecast?
Currently, it's too early to tell with conflicting reports of either up to 70% rain for the whole weekend, 55% for Friday and Saturday, and a dry weekend.
What does this mean?
Well, we have yet to see how any car performs in wet weather with comparisons to each other, especially because if a practice session is wet but a race isn't, you're less likely to see cars leave the garage. Unfortunately for the teams, this won't be possible in China due to the fact the surface is new and for 4 teams, the track is new to the driver as well.
Speaking of new surface, any rain could make the surface extra slippery than anticipated due to the fact standing water and a track not worn in yet would make it's appearance.
Keep an eye out on the weather as we get closer!
Extra info!
There haven't been any ground effect era cars to ever race this circuit meaning no driver knows exactly what to expect from their car's performance on this track.
Alexander Albon, Lando Norris, and George Russell have only driven on this track once meaning that McLaren and Williams are the least prepared driver wise as both Albon and Norris have teammates who've never driven the circuit before.
China has a lot of grandstands which they don't use for people and instead advertisement because they didn't have enough people attending. Look out for some interesting advertisement placement!
Zhou Guanyu will be the first Chinese driver to take on a Chinese circuit in F1! And not only was Zhou Guanyu born in China, he was born in Shanghai which is the very city this track is held in. This means him and Charles Leclerc are the only drivers to be able to race in the city they were born in. (Edit: Completely forgot that, yes, Oscar Piastri and Lance Stroll both have a home city race)
There is a lot of talk buzzing around in the paddocks surrounding seat changes and whatnot. There may be more news after the 2 Chinese races.

time after some time // mick schumacher
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
kisses underneath the collar of a turtleneck sweater
mick is gone a lot because of his job, which makes the moments they share all the more special. especially the moments shared in the half light before he has to go and catch his next flight.
pairing: mick schumacher x female reader
the room was still dark, echoing with the sound of rain tapping against the windows. mick's arms were heavy around her body, holding her tight as he snored lightly against the back of her neck. angie was curled up at the bottom of the bed, her fluffy body weighted against y/n's legs.
the clock radio on her nightstand chimed, softly tuning into the oldies radio station, playing a duran duran song. she kissed mick's hand softly, slipping out of bed, turning off the alarm and reaching for the hoodie she'd thrown over her reading chair.
angie stirred, leaping off the bed and nuzzling against y/n's legs.
mick was still fast asleep.
"come on, girl. let's get you outside." she chirped, patting angie on the side before leading her out of the bedroom and towards the heavy glass patio doors. despite the light rain, angie was eager to run around the backyard and stretch her small, canine legs.
she kept an eye on angie through the bedroom window as she slowly dressed for the day, a chill rising on her skin as she pulled a turtleneck sweater over her head, pushing the cowl over the bottom of her face as she shivered.
mick stirred in bed, a pretty little groan escaping his throat as he rolled over, pulling the duvet over his shoulders.
"morning, sleepyhead." she giggled, leaning over to kiss the side of his head gently. "angie's already outside."
mick grimaced, burrowing into the pillow. "you let her run outside in the rain?"
"we got an apartment with a backyard for a reason, babe. she's a smart girl, she knows to stay on the covered patio."
mick relented, hands gentle on her waist as he pulled her onto the bed. "i love you." he mumbled, voice low as he kissed her, repeating it in between kisses.
there was a muffled bark coming form the other room, followed by a tapping on the patio glass.
"can you let angie in? i'll go start breakfast." she hummed, kissing mick again. "i want you well fed before you get on that plane."
mick laughed, sitting up and letting the duvet fall away from the white tank top covering his sculpted torso. "babe, i'm flying to florida, not switzerland."
"it's still the other side of the country." she laughed, playfully hitting him in the shoulder.
the pair had relocated to texas whilst mick was still with haas, and even after guenther steiner had fired the poor boy, they had fallen in love with the property and the landscape. they lived right near the water, with plenty of walking paths for angie. more than that, it had become home.
"is your mom meeting you in daytona?"
"yeah, she and gina will meet me at the track."
she frowned, brushing mick's messy, blond hair out of his face. "sorry i can't make it this weekend. if work wasn't so hectic, you know that i would."
"i know." mick sighed, kissing her palm. "doesn't change the fact that i'll miss you like hell."
angie barked again, growing impatient as she sat in front of the sliding patio doors. the couple laughed, sharing a soft kiss before breaking apart, one going to let angie back inside and the other to make breakfast.
the kitchen was soon filled with music and the smell of grilled vegetables as y/n started making a frittata, a cyndi lauper album playing softly in the background. her hair was pinned up with a plastic claw clip, the faint smell of a bath and body works spray soaking into her skin. she hummed the words, smiling to herself when she heard the telltale clacking of angies paws on the hardwood floor, followed by mick's laughter as he chased after her.
"you're all wet." she whined as mick hugged her frmo behind, his arms a comforting weight around her midsection.
"take it up with angie. she's fucking quick." mick laughed, nuzzling into her shoulder. "i never stood a chance before she was shaking the water off everywhere."
his nose was cold as he trailed his face over the bare nape of her neck, gently nosing underneath the collar of her sweater before placing a soft kiss at the top of her spine. his hands moved from her waist to the collar of her shirt, holding it out of the way so he could kiss her some more, a show of intimacy that made her heart melt.
"ich leibe dich."
"i love you more."

Winner take it all | MS47
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
⸺ the one where dating him is anything but boring, and so Valentines' Day will include a small game where the winner takes it all, and, as it is common knowledge, Mick Schumacher is a very competitive man. ✓ one dirty joke plus tooth-rotting fluff.
⁕ lovers, players, and racers blurb night (open) ⁕ my masterlist and my taglist
When you started dating Mick you knew he was the kind of guy full of surprises. He was funny, and each day you ended up learning something new about him. From the first Valentines’ together you were sure your relationship would never be boring, no matter how long you were together.
That’s why you were more amazed than surprised when February 14th rolled around and you got home from work to a small note sitting on the door of your shared apartment.
“Open the door and grab your weapons, they’re on the kitchen counter. Winner’s get to pick the Valentines’ activity for tonight.”
The lights were dimmed, and he went as far as playing the original soundtrack of Call of Duty a shooting game you would play together every once in a while when your schedules allowed. That itself was enough to put a smile on your face after a stressful day at work. You stripped off of your coat and shoes and walked to the kitchen finding water guns and balloons full of water.
You grabbed your items and ran to look for Mick.
“I’m homeeee! You better hide or I’ll get you.”
Mick shouted something back which you couldn’t exactly understand, but you were able to tell that he was around the bedroom. With the gun loaded in one hand and a water balloon on the other, you opened the door to the bedroom using your hips.
“C’mon, Mickey, I know you’re around,” you tried, bending a bit to look under the bed.
The door to the close was suddenly opened and your only reaction was to scream and run. You heard the splash of water, and your boyfriend’s laugh, but kept running to a different room, finding shelter behind the countertop. From there you had easy access to ammunition, and you took advantage of it, throwing a few water balloons when Mick showed up at the door. He swiftly dodged your attempts, needing just one try to splash his only water balloon into your hair. You screamed between laughs, throwing more water at him, and running behind the blonde who now was singing some victory song while running around the living room.
Your two balloons popped on him, one on his naked chest, and the other on his head, transforming the shade of his blonde strands. Mick ran to you, tracking you into the ground, one hand behind your head to protect you from the impact, and his free arm around your waist to keep your body close.
Giggling, you laced your arms around his large shoulders, after playfully hitting him.
“Well, looks like I got you all wet…again,” he joked and you threw your head back laughing.
“You’re lucky I love you.”
“I love you too, meine Liebe. Now, let’s go get cleaned up, you got a date to attend.”
You rolled your eyes playfully and got on your tip toes holding his jaw between your hands to place a gentle kiss on his lips, “Happy Valentines’, love.”
“Here’s to many more with you,” he whispered, kissing you again.

Hellooooo can we actually combine the kisses together?
Comfort & Regretful + Mick Schumacher please if you may 🫶🏻
[ regretful ] for a kiss meant to apologise + [ comfort ] for a kiss to reassure with mick schumacher.
you had warned him, the whole team had warned him, even toto had warned him. the track was wet, and that third turn would be dangerous. all of the drivers would need to be careful, slow down a little to prevent them from oversteering. but mick had tunnel vision in the car, and nothing else mattered when he was close to winning.
he’d already overtaken charles and lando, and you quietly cursed to yourself as he powered on. of course, you wanted him to win, but you knew your boyfriend — he was ambitious. and the notion of podium would cloud the previous warnings of that godforsaken bend.
it happened before you even realised what was going on. mick’s car spun uncontrollably on the snap screen in front of you, hurdling upside down, back again, and crashing into the wall. everyone around you groaned, or gasped, but all you could do was stare, waiting for him to move.
“he’s okay!” someone on the radio shouted, the rescue team rushing towards him on the track. you followed the sound of the sirens, though they were blurry in your ears, quiet under the sound of your heart hammering in your chest.
no matter how people tried to stop you, you pushed past every obstacle until you found him sat by the side of the ambulance, still in his race suit, an oxygen mask strapped to his mouth. he looked like he could fall over, if it wasn’t for the paramedic at his side. he caught you out of the corner of his eye, instantly filling with guilt.
“what were you thinking?” you hiss, hurrying over to him. your arms cross over your chest, chest practically heaving with anxiety. he wasn’t seriously hurt, but your fear was clouding any sympathy for him. “why did you speed up, mick? you could have died.”
he gulped, a hand ghosting out to brush your hip. he knew you were angry, but only because you were scared. shit, he was scared. knowing that, in that moment, he could have left you alone.
“i’m sorry—”
“you promised,” your voice broke, just in time with his heart. he didn’t care about the medics anymore, or whatever they had hooked up to him. he pushed himself to his feet, reaching for you. “you promised you’d be careful.”
“i know, i know,” mick murmured, wiping under your eyes with a gloved hand. so overcome, he found comfort in your kiss, pressing his lips to yours over and over, mutterings of “i’m sorry” between each one.
you melted, all of the anger dissipated, left with only the relief that he was safe. you glanced up at him, brushing your thumb lightly over a scratch on his cheek. his perfect face, bloody and bruised. noticing your concern, he takes you hand from his cheek in his, squeezing.
“i’m okay,” he assures you, forcing a smile. he kisses you again, more yearning this time. his lips linger, reluctant to part, now that he’s got a taste for reality. any kiss could be the last. “i’m right here, schatz. i’m not going anywhere.”

Kissing your tears away
Pairing: Mika Häkkinen x Michael Schumacher
This makkinen + first kiss prompt was brought to you by this very lovely anon 💕 Coincidentally the lovely @kimizilla also received an ask from the same anon for a makkinen + first kiss artwork! 😭🫶🫶 So we decided to do a co-project!!! 😍 matching fanfic and artwork is a dream come true! 😭😭
PLEASE CHECK OUT DAHLIA'S GORGEOUS ARTWORK 😍
Michael swallowed. There was something so adorable about a grown man lying in his bed in silken blue button-up pajamas, with his messy blonde hair and wet blue eyes staring up at the ceiling.
"Mika?" he asked carefully, afraid that the Finn didn't want to be seen or talked to. Afraid that he would be embarrassed by the way he was clutching his bedsheets in a white-knuckled grip.
Despite the fact that Michael was talking to him, Mika didn't avert his eyes from the pristinely white ceiling he was apathically staring at. "Are-are you going to leave me too?"
He sounded disappointed. Michael watched as tears crawled over the brim of the Finn's eyelids and tracked down his pale, porcelain skin.
He hopscotched the last few meters to Mika's bed and placed his scrutches against the nearest wall. He sat down and weaved his fingers through Mika's golden hair. Poor thing! He would love to keep him company until his last day in the hospital, but he couldn't.
"Not yet. Probably soon. Let's not think about that."
Mika's bottom lip started to tremble and the flow of tears cascading down his face increased. He twisted and turned in the bedsheets and curled against the German, pressing his tear-stained face in the soft material of Michael's hoodie.
Michael caressed his soft, blonde locks and threw him a rueful smile. "How is the pain this morning?"
"Un-fucking-bearable. Like always," the Finn mumbled in the thick textile of his hoodie.
"Mmm. Maybe we should go outside to distract you?"
"How? A crippling and a weakling? The blind leading the blind?"
"Well, maybe we can both use crutches for more balance."
Mika lifted his face from Michael's hoodie and scowled at him. "Brilliant idea. My arms are as weak as my legs so that must work out." He gave him a cynical thumbs up. "I feel like a rag doll."
Michael let his fingers adoringly trace his rival's cheekbones, wiping away his tears and chuckled. "You are a rag doll."
Mika had the guts to glare daggers at him through his tears. He grabbed Michael's wrist in a viselike hold. "Well, you are a nuisance!"
"You don't mean that."
"I do mean it if you call me a rag doll."
Michael stared at Mika. The man basically was a rag doll at this point. A gorgeous, handsome rag doll, but a rag doll none the less. His arms and legs had lost so much strength and his pajama seemed slightly over-sized due to the weightloss after weeks of hospitalization. They chose to make fun of it, throwing affectionate insults each other's way, but in fact there was nothing funny about it.
"Come on, Mika. Fetch a wheelchair. I can sit in it and you can lean on it, and then we take a very slow stroll towards the park."
Mika sighed. The pain in his head was torturing him, but he reckoned it was a good idea to distract himself from said pain. He pushed himself upright with a pained frown and reached for his pain killers. "Just give me a minute."
Michael watched as Mika took his pills. It was hard to process that after all these weeks after the crash, he was still dependent on them. Life was just so unfair.
"Alright, let's go." Mika got up to his feet and stumbled towards his own wheelchair. "Mine is closer by. I know they encourage you to use crutches, but we are not going to limp up and down the hallway to fetch one."
Michael watched amusedly as the pajama-clad, grumpy Finn put his slippers on and pushed the wheelchair into his direction.
"Don't you want to get changed first?"
"No, I don't care."
Michael shrugged as he sat down in the wheelchair. Typical Mika. "I think you're gonna have a problem with your nurse... but okay."
Mika released the brakes and started wheeling his co-patient onto the smooth waxed floor of the hospital hallway. His knees trembled and his arms shook, but he had decided for himself that this was going to be his first workout after the crash.
He stared at the mop of light brown curls in front of him and smiled fondly. "Are you comfy, Michael?"
"More than!" Michael turned around and was met with a warm, genuine smile that he hadn't seen in the days since he was administered to Mika's hospital room. It warmed not only his heart, but also his senses and the goosebumps on his skin.
Michael closed his eyes and reveled in that foreign, but very welcome, warmth. Until his ride came abruptly to a halt.
"What do you guys think you're doing?!"
A quite corpulent, stern nurse had put her foot in front of one of the wheels of the wheelchair. "Who told you it was a good idea to go outside on your own?"
"I did," Michael said resolutely. "Vitamins D for my pale Finnish roomie!"
Mika nodded in confirmation.
The nurse put her hands on her hips. "You..," she pointed at Michael, "...are not a medical specialist! Look at him!"
Michael turned around to look at the Mika, taking him in from head to toe. Very pretty! Was the only thing he thought.
"Yes like I said, he looks pale he needs his sunny vitamins!"
The nurse reached out to grab Mika's wrist and tried to wrestle his hand off of the wheelchair handle. "You need to rest! You're weak! It's too dangerous for you outside!"
Mika resisted when the corpulent nurse wrapped her arms around his slender waist and tried to drag him away from the wheelchair.
"No ma'am! I'm off the hook. Literally!" Mika reached for the wheelchair handles again, almost tripping over his unsteady legs. "I don't have to carry my IV-bag around anymore. I'm on pills now."
"Hey hey, don't wrestle with my patients!" A loud voice bellowed across the hallway.
An older man in a white lab coat with mischievous eyes and an amused grin on his face walked up to them and started to gently push the nurse away from the disgruntled Finn.
"I can imagine they go insane between these walls. Let's give them a little bit of freedom. If they feel too weak they will find out soon enough."
Michael nodded and pointed at Mika. "Don't worry. If you let us, I will not leave his side. I will protect him at all costs. Right, Mika?"
Mika rolled his eyes at his German co-patient.
"Alright, but no longer than an hour and a half!" the nurse barked at them.
Michael set a timer on his watch. "Promised."
"Do you think she means an hour and a half and then go back or does she mean be back in an hour and a half?" Mika mumbled as he rolled Michael over the pavement outside the hospital.
Michael chuckled. "In my honest opinion, I think you should not try her out! She seems very strict."
"She is! Even more so than Ron Dennis!"
Michael turned around to look at Mika and smirked. He could picture that nurse wrapping Mika in a straight jacket to keep him from wandering around in the hospital. "That's good. Someone stubborn like you needs a strict nurse!"
"Michael!" Mika shook the wheelchair making Michael giggle even more. "That nurse said going outside is dangerous for me! You told me to go outside. You are the bad influence!"
"I was only joking, Mika." Michael wanted nothing more than to get up from the wheelchair and walk next to Mika so he could see his sweet face turn into a disgruntled frown everytime Michael was riling him up.
Michael could read people very well. He would never make fun of Mika when he was in pain, but right now the pain killers were doing their job and Michael thought a bit of light, friendly banter would be a good change of topic for the Finn. Not the heavy tearjurker kind of stuff.
Mika grabbbed a strand of Michael's soft, curly hair and tugged. "Still a nuisance!"
"And you are still a rag doll."
As they entered the park, Michael could feel Mika was tired. The speed and smoothness of his wheelchair steering had diminished the closer they had gotten to the green lawn.
"Why don't you say anything?"
"Hmm? What do you mean?" Mika leaned forward to look over Michael's shoulder.
"About you getting tired? It's important to let me know! I can feel it in your handling of the wheelchair."
Mika sighed. "I am shaking all over to be completely honest with you. But it's no point to whine about that. I need to improve my stamina and strength."
Michael reached out to grab Mika's shoulder. "Come here. Let me look at you."
Mika stopped the wheelchair next to a big tree that shielded them against the blazing Australian sun and put in on the brakes.
He collapsed to his knees with an exhausted sigh and wrapped his arms around his shaking body. His face looked pale and was covered with a fine sheen of cold sweat. "Perkele, I hate this!"
"Oh Mika, you look like death warmed over! Again, why didn't you say anything?!"
Michael carefully slid out of the wheelchair and sat down next to the Finn with his casted leg stretched out in front of him.
"I didn't want to come across as a wuzz!" he replied as big tears started to roll down his cheeks. "Great! And now I am crying too!"
He covered his face with his hands and started sobbing quietly. "First, my mom leaves me and in a few days you will leave me too, and I am still a fucking wreck!" His shoulders shook violently. "This is the first time I get to be outside and now I am tired and in pain!"
Michael scooted closer to the desperate Finn and enveloped him in his arms. "Oh poor Mika! Mein Hübscher!"
He caressed Mika's shuddering spine and startled when he found out he could count all his ribs one by one. "Verdammt, you are skin and bones! I will make sure the hospital staff will give you some proper nutricious food!"
Mika pressed his face in the crook of Michael's neck and sobbed. "I need my pills. My head hurts so much!"
Like yesterday, Michael's hand raked through Mika's hair, stroking the soft, golden locks, and letting them flow through his fingers. He was pleasantly surprised by how long the Finn's hair had gotten, and he was suprised by how much he adored it on him.
"You think I'm malnourished. Now I know why you call me a rag doll!"
"Sssshhh, Mika. Take deep breaths. You don't look like a rag doll."
Mika lifted his face from Michael's shoulder and pouted at him. He was in shambles. His cheeks and the tip of his nose were red and burning. A gleam of a crying-blush that contrasted enormously with his pale countenance.
Michael's heart banged against his sternum. He took a deep breath himself. Goosebumps formed on his skin. He wanted to protect this beautiful human being at all costs.
His fingers felt for scars hidden underneath Mika's thick mop of hair. He thought of the appendicits-scar underneath Mika's pajama shirt - still fresh after a few weeks, and could see the little dimple in Mika's throat, giving away where the medics had cut his throat to help him breath on that awful day in November.
He reached out to touch that small, teeny-tiny imperfection on Mika's otherwise smooth and even skin.
Mika recoiled and grabbed Michael's wrist in an instant. "Don't touch it," he said with an unsteady voice.
Michael startled heavily and quickly retrieved his hand. "I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! Does it still hurt?"
Mika shook his head. "No, but touching it brings back memories I would like to forget."
Michael placed his arm back around Mika and pulled him closer. He caressed his cheek with the back of his hand.
"I hate it so much!"
"Sssshh, don't hate it! Why don't you see it as something positive?" Michael reached out again - seeking for permission and receiving it hesistantly - and touched the scar again. This time more carefully.
"This tiny flaw in your skin has saved your life!"
"Don't you think it's ugly?"
"Ugly?! Do I need to wash you mouth with soap?" Michael replied sternly.
Mika blinked at him in confusion.
"Nothing about you is ugly! Don't even dare say that again!" Michael's hand shot down to caress Mika's appendicits-scar over the fabric of his pajama shirt. "This one saved your life too."
Mika stilled in appreciation and stared at Michael through his tears. "Why are you being so kind to me?"
Michael swallowed. He stared into Mika's beautiful blue eyes, then at his adorable pink lips. He caressed a strand of blonde hair from his face. "Maybe I am kind to you because you've always been kind to me." His fingers stroked the line of Mika's jaw tenderly. "Maybe I am kind to you because you look so much like an angel I need to please."
He sighed in adoration when he saw a deep red blush adorning Mika's once so pale cheeks.
"Maybe I am kind to you because that little dimple in your throat and your crooked smile are so beautiful to me."
Mika smiled at him through his tears.
It was truly a captivating sight. His rueful smile looked like a sunrise after days of rain. It looked like a spring day after a months-long winter.
Michael's hand tightened gently around Mika's jaw as he angled the Finn's face a little upward. His other hand buried itself in Mika's soft, wavy hair. He stared at those pretty lips again, as his heart skipped a beat.
Then he kissed him... he kissed him as gently as if he were made of porcelain. His soft lips left nothing to the imagination as to how delicate he was. It was seriously like he was kissing an angel. No matter how gentle the kiss was, it set the goosebumps on his skin on fire. His cheeks burned with desire for his secret love. Mika Pauli Häkkinen, ich liebe dich!
Mika's eyes grew wide when he felt Michael's lips on his own. The kiss came as a complete surprise to him, but not a hair on his head thought about recoiling or resisting. Quite the opposite actually... Mika melted against Michael's frame as the German deepened the kiss and stroked his skillfull fingers through his luscious, golden hair.
It was unlike any of the kisses he had ever shared with a girl. Michael's lips were stronger and more demanding. The sensation send a wave of heat through his nerves and filled his fatigued body with a new kind of energy.
Michael's arms wrapped more tightly around his angel. He didn't want to let go. Here, underneath the canopy of the giant tree, without the press lurking around, he could pour all his love into this single kiss.
When they parted, Mika stared at Michael with a glazed look. His cheeks a brilliant shade of red. "Michael..." He swallowed audibly.
"That was... that was..."
A pause.
He wiped his tears away. "So how do we get back to the hospital in time now?"
Michael stared at the Finn fondly and caressed one of his rosy cheeks with his thumb. "What do you mean, mein Hübscher?"
"Well, I was shaking all over from exhaustion when we arrived. Now I am shaking all over for different reasons."

Suzuka in April Feels Wrong
So, this weekend F1 will race at Suzuka. Suzuka is an amazing circuit, the esses at the beginning of the lap, trying to take Degner 1 as fast as possible but knowing the gravel trap is right there at the edge of the circuit, and then hard on the brakes for Degner 2, under the bridge, and up and to the right into the hairpin where Kamui Kobayashi seemed to overtake just about everyone in 2012. Spoon curve, the infamous 130R, and the Casio triangle at the end of the lap, Suzuka really is something special.
The only problem is, Raikkonen's 2005 charge (admittedly I was too young to properly enjoy that but it's literally the back to front challenge meme in real life), Kamui's 2012 podium as a Japanese driver, even Vettel's heartbreaking sparkplug failure in 2017, not to mention the historic Prost and Senna collisions...all of those happened at the end of the season, or close enough to it anyway. This year, Suzuka is in April, the fourth round of the 2024 Formula One season.
Now of course, there's a reason for this - the geography of an increasingly bloated F1 calendar - but first, let's just establish why the Japanese Grand Prix being at the end of the season is so important.
The first Japanese Grand Prix, held in 1976 and 1977, marked the first time a world championship race was held in Asia, and it was the finale too, the place where the championship would be decided. The 1976 race in particular, covered in the excellent 2013 movie Rush, saw Niki Lauda pull into the pits in dangerously wet conditions - this was the same year as his Nürburgring crash - which allowed James Hunt to charge up the field and seal his only world title.
The first Fuji trip would only last two years, but in 1987, F1 would find its home in Suzuka. It was the penultimate race - Adelaide, Australia was now the finale - but nevertheless, Suzuka was still the place where titles were decided. In 1988, Senna came from behind in the wet to beat Prost, in 1989 Prost would close the door on a charging Senna in the Casio triangle on lap 47, taking Prost out. Senna cut the chicane rejoining the track, got disqualified, and handed the title to Prost. In 1990, Prost now in a Ferrari, got a better start than Senna's polesitting McLaren, but Senna's wouldn't give an inch, and they didn't even make it past the first corner this time. Senna would seal the 1990 title. And it continued, Senna over Mansell in 1991, Hill over Villeneuve in 1996, Hakkinen over Schumacher in 1998...it was the track where history was made.
That being said, it's position in the calendar started to change as F1 expanded its Asia-Pacific presence from just Suzuka. From 1987-1995, it was paired with the Australian Grand Prix at Adelaide, in 1999 and 2000, it was paired with Malaysia, and from 2004-2008, it was paired with China. After that, the calendar more or less formed two flyaway blocks, with Australia-Malaysia-China-Bahrain at the beginning of the season, and a Singapore and Suzuka towards the end, paired with an everchanging host of flyaway races that included Abu Dhabi, Brazil, South Korea, and India. In 2009, Suzuka was the third to last race, come 2011, it was fifth to last.
The real blow to Suzuka as an end of season race, however, was the emergence of an American block of races late in the season. It started with Austin in 2012, and by 2015, we had Austin and Mexico back-to-back followed by Brazil, making for three western hemisphere races in a row. Las Vegas in 2023 made a fourth, with Abu Dhabi having long ago bought the season finale slot. All of this means that, in 2023, there were a whole two months of racing after Suzuka.
Thus, figuring that history is dead, F1 has decided to move Suzuka to April, so that, much like 2004-2008, it's back-to-back with the Chinese Grand Prix. Which means F1 will now have Baku and Singapore as a doubleheader in 2024...yeah.
For something meant to cut down on F1's travel related CO2 emissions, they really did just decide to make the entire circus fly over the entirety of the Asian continent in a week. Good job.
What the race does succeed in, however, is reminding us of the last time F1 raced in Japan in April, the 1994 and 1995 Pacific Grand Prix. A rare moment of two races in the same country for F1, when in addition to the end of season trip to Suzuka, there was an early season trip to the T1 Circuit in Okayama. It's a pretty neat track, I've raced it on Ride 4, probably better for bikes than cars though.
So yeah, not much for the environment, but it does remind us of an obscure race nobody has ever heard of, so there is that.

Note
the car is shit because it doesn’t have a strong front (like the f1-75 did @ the start of 2022), and they can’t change the chassis because of the cost cap. it’s too expensive. so we’re stuck with the chassis binotto & co. designed to suit carlos’ driving style (re: understeer). i know they’ve tried to add some aero-related pieces to strengthen the front in their development (e.g., new diffuser, front flap, etc.). which is why charles was feeling a little more like his old self yesterday and carlos fell off a bit. i’m so ready for the 2024 car since they’ve said they’re designing it toward charles’ driving style (oversteer, fast). hope they can deliver for him. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 he deserves a great car!
I truly have no words...
Charles did a great Q3 lap. Drove on the edge a few times in sector 2, and then the rear just... doesn't respond in sector 3. And his lap time is nowhere as a result. He really could have done nothing more. The SF-23 truly belongs in the trash. Absolutely disgrace of a car.
What's worse is this disgrace of a team, who developed the fast pointy F1-75 into an understeer tractor AND stopped development early to focus on the SF-23 (LMAO), an even worse understeer tractor that they now can't develop out of a wet paper bag. They need to bin their organizational philosophy, bin a perpetually feckless strategy team (notice how this season Merc always finishes where they deserve by just ... you know, behaving normally?), bin their useless second driver who at best gives bad data (Silverstone tire wear) and at worst does everything to undermine their fastest driver (Silverstone quali, Austria race, Monaco quali, Australia quali, Saudi race - weaving, Silverstone 2021 race - shoving off the track, etc. I can't even keep tabs anymore, it's actually getting comical) while politicking car development into the midfield.
I'm constantly mind blown this team cannot do simple math. To win WDC/WCC, you don't need both drivers to be comfortable, you don't need your drivers to finish 1-2, YOU NEED YOUR FASTEST DRIVER TO FINISH P1. The points difference between P1 and P2 is fucking enormous. As long as you make a car that CHARLES can win in, it doesn't matter if his teammate is P3, P4, etc. (or if you're special like Perez, DNF in FP1 and then P9).
There's talent in the team. Charles is generational. I think Vasseur is trying to do right, but dear god - there's a reason Schumacher was so successful. He had the political sway and brought in his own people to absolutely GUT Ferrari over several years and turned it into something unrecognizable. To win with Ferrari, you must first disrespect and destroy Ferrari.

Sky Germany’s best of Norbert Vettel as co-commentator during FP3 at the Austin GP.
Translation under the cut!
***
Norbert, welcome to the team, we are glad to have you!
***
It would be a pity for Mick because Mick is actually- I know him personally, I find him a very decent, nice person, who stands with both feet on the ground. Very down to earth and it would be sad- and he has brought the performance, always, whether in formula 3 or in formula 4 or in karting. It's not as if he came last or was in the midfield and advanced because his name is Schumacher. He has shown that he can win championships. You can't imagine that someone like Mick... but that's the way it is in this business, very strange at the moment.
***
Sascha: That was Alex Albon’s girlfriend. I don't know her, do you know her Norbert?
No, I'm not like that in the paddock. I'm with the guys in the pits, I talk to the mechanics. These are the people who make a difference, and it has to be said that they all do a great job.
S: I've noticed that you often go to see the mechanics, the ferrari ones as well.
The guys who worked on the car, I still get along with them. There are always two classes, there are the ones on the pit wall, they’re... the politicians and there are the ones who work. It's like real life, the politicians don't have a clue or have never gotten their hands dirty, and the guys who do the work, you have to thank them.
***
Let's say that Lewis was used to winning for a long time. It's not about being first or second or setting the best time, a race is a race. But there also comes a time when, as they always say, you first have to be able to lose before you can win and sometimes it's the other way around.
***
I form my own opinion because I was a mechanic for Sebastian myself. For me, they all boil water, the water isn't hotter, it's just more expensive. Sometimes you don't understand them, they can't see the forest for the trees or the trees for the forest.
***
S: Sebastian has a beautiful helmet.
Yes, I think it's cool, very peace and love. I think it's very fitting for America: Woodstock, cool times like in the 70s and 80s. It gives me goosebumps.
(both laugh)
You are the way you are. I can't pretend to be someone I'm not, I am who I am. I think some people might need subtitles to understand me, but if I tried to speak High German, I think that would go a bit awry.
***
When we were in Suzuka, that's what he loves so much, the speed.
S: Yes, we saw that.
That's the way it is. Suzuka is a track that you have to... as Sebastian might say, you have to have the balls to go into the corner and keep your foot on the pedal.
***
S: Now come the two Alpha Tauri, Gasly and Tsunoda, maybe you can see a difference there.
Ralf: That one is a bit slow.
S: That's right.
A bit slow...
Ralf: Yeah, he's probably on a cool down lap.
That's such a cramp.
(they all laugh)
Ralf: That's such a cramp. Unfortunately that's modern Formula One, whether you like it or not.
Modern Formula One. The cars are so long, when you see them in reality, they’re almost like minivans.
***
They’re adjusted to be so hard, it's like a plank. When they hit the barrier (...) it's like a kart, it lifts the rear axle. That's how hard the machines are now.
***
With Mick in Japan, you have to wonder what they were thinking, I have no idea.
S: When he was left to drive on wet tyres for a long time.
They were hoping that someone would make a mistake at some point and they could then use the safety car, which did not happen.
***
The car is tailored to Max like a fist to an eye. Or, in other words, maybe he's just able to get the most out of the package.
***
When you read, "Mick cost us millions," that's nonsense. The millions they've wasted, they've blown themselves. With strategy and whatever else. You can't just dish it out, you also have to be able to take it. That's always the problem, they never want to take it. It's always the person sitting between the steering wheel and the engine who gets the blame.
***
S: Norbert, I had a lot of fun.
I also had a lot of fun. I hope people understood most of what I said and I would like to thank all the viewers and also Formula One - or motorsport as a whole. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for everyone. I hope I didn't talk too much käs.
S: Absolutely not! The feedback was great, we got lots of great messages, I'll show you those in a moment.
Thank you very much!

Chapter Two: Shock
Tumblr media
Carlos Sainz x Rosa Romero
-> A trip to the doctor brings up memories from Monaco as well as shocking news that Rosa didn't see coming.
word count: 2.1k
warnings: mentions of sex, throwing up, rough upbringing, doctor's visit, blood work, pregnancy
a/n: ok but Carlos at the end makes me cry he's so sweet
Present Day
“Congratulations, it appears as though you are pregnant!” the woman in the white coat said to Rosa, her voice filled with so much joy, you would’ve thought she was the pregnant one. “Your bloodwork looked excellent, the baby seems to be about four weeks old based on your hCg levels shown on page two of this packet” she said with a beaming smile before handing over the small five page packet to Rosa. “I’ve included a list of all the best OBGYN’s in the Madrid area. I highly recommend choosing from this list, though it is just a suggestion of course”
Rosa looked up at the brown haired woman standing in front of her, a blank expression on her face as you tried to wrap your mind around everything she had just said to you in the past 30 seconds.
Pregnant. Four weeks.
As the doctor continued to run through the blood work with Rosa, your mind wandered elsewhere, tuning her voice out as you thought back to exactly what happened four weeks ago.
Monaco. By far one of the richest places Rosa has ever been to. Beyond that, it was one of the races on the F1 calendar that your best friend, Carlos Sainz, had wanted to win the most.
Monaco was a historical place in Formula 1- all the best drivers had won there. Lauda, Prost, Senna, Schumacher, Hamilton, you name any of the greats of Formula 1 and that track was probably one they had succeeded at.
Carlos always wanted to be on that winning list alongside all of his childhood heroes and that weekend four weeks ago, he had finally done just that.
The race had started out wet, the conditions almost undriveable. Rosa stood in the garage, too nervous to sit as she watched Carlos round each corner of the race track, never making any mistake despite how slippery the track surface was.
When he crossed the finish line as the checkered flag flew above him, Rosa couldn't help but find herself getting a bit emotional.
Rosa had met Carlos during high school, shortly before he had entered Formula 3. She had a rough home life, so she typically tried to spend as little time as possible at home, which Carlos had noticed when she started following him to the go-kart track after school everyday.
At first, Carlos didn’t question it- it wasn’t uncommon for people to sit in the stands and watch as he and a few other local karting drivers practiced in the late afternoon on weekdays.
However when he noticed that she wouldn’t leave when he did, that’s when his questions started to arise.
The two of them had become pretty close over a short period of time- mainly due to the fact that after each practice, he would invite her to grab a quick bite to eat or to see a movie with him before he headed home for the night.
Carlos had become Rosa’s best friend and the person she trusted most in this world- after all, he was still the only person to this day who knew how horrible her family was to her. He was the one who would save Rosa from them day in and day out, especially when her dad tried to make an appearance back into her life during graduation.
After high school, Rosa and Carlos had bought a house together. Rosa needed to get out of her mothers house as quickly as possible, and Carlos wanted his own place to stay after traveling around the world week after week, so it all worked out in the end.
Fast forward ten years later, Carlos was driving for Ferrari, the two of them remained best friends, and still lived in that house they had bought fresh out of high school.
After embracing Carlos in a hug and congratulating him on such a big achievement, Carlos had mentioned a party at a local Monaco club called Jimmyz. Never saying no to a good after party, Rosa went back to the hotel and got ready for what you knew was going to be a long night out.
A long night out it was indeed.
The night had started out with several shots of tequila with Carlos and a few members from his team as well as his teammate, Charles- probably way too many tequila shots, but after a race like that, who wouldn’t want to get drunk off tequila?
As the night progressed, Rosa and Carlos had separated in the bar- he went off to drink some beers with his competitors while she went to the dance floor, hoping to dance away the pounding headache she had from all that tequila that had been consumed so early in the night.
Before Rosa knew it though, she was in the arms of a stranger. Looking back on it now, she couldn’t even remember what the man looked like, let alone his name or the sound of his voice.
One thing led to another and she found herself having a one night stand with the mystery man from Jimmyz just before her flight left at 5am.
“Any questions?” the doctor asked, a smile still shining across her face, her voice still filled with joy and excitement.
Rosa looked up at her and shook her head, Rosa’s grip on the papers in her hand becoming a bit tighter as she tried to hold back her tears. “No, thank you. Can I head home now?”
The girl nodded, handing Rosa a small little card. “This is my email if you or your OBGYN have any questions about this appointment or any of the blood work, ok?”
Rosa nodded a little, taking the small rectangle piece of paper out of the doctor’s hand and slipping it into her purse before giving her a faint smile. “Thank you, have a nice day” she said quietly before walking out of the room, needing to get out of the small space and breathe some fresh air.
As Rosa walked outside, she was met with the hot and humid air that engulfed all of madrid- nothing too uncommon for the month of July. The sun was beaming down on her, making it feel ten times hotter out than it actually was.
When she climbed into her car, she immediately turned the air conditioning on, hoping that it would cool her off in some way before she had to make the drive home.
As Rosa started making the drive home- one that was about ten minutes long- she couldn’t help but let her mind travel as she turned her car left and right, navigating through the roads of Madrid.
She thought about how Carlos would react to the news.
Would he ask her to leave, insisting that a child in his home would be too much of a distraction?
Would he be ashamed of her for making such a stupid mistake?
What would his family think when they found out… After all, they were like family to her now, the last thing she would want is for them to be disappointed in her.
She couldn’t help but think about what horrible upbringing she had. Her dad walking out on her when she was eight, her mother becoming an alcoholic, and her sister completely forgetting about her the minute she turned 18, leaving Rosa alone in the horrible hands of her mother, wishing for an escape.
Rosa thought about how the child growing inside of her would also grow up without a father- something she had always promised herself she would never let your children go through.
Rosa felt like a failure already- like she was the worst mother to walk the face of the earth, despite only learning she was a mother nearly twenty minutes ago.
Rosa hit one of her hands against the steering wheel out of frustration, feeling angry with herself for making such poor decisions four weeks ago.
As she approached the gates to her driveway, she rolled the window down, feeling the warm air trying to suffocate her as she entered the 5 digit pin, watching as the gates opened, allowing her to drive through.
She pulled into your garage stall, turning the car off before grabbing her purse and wiping her damp cheeks with the back of her hands.
As she got out of the car, Rosa took a deep breath, hoping Carlos wouldn’t sense anything was wrong, though she knew he would, he could read her like the back of his hand.
When she finally made it inside, she hung her purse and keys up on the hooks by the door before slipping out of her tennis shoes and walking into the kitchen to grab herself a glass of water.
After grabbing the glass of water as well as a granola bar, Rosa made her way up the stairs and to her bedroom, which just so happened to be located right next to Carlos’ office.
As Rosa approached her room, she heard Carlos talking, almost as if he was on the phone. When she walked past his office door, she was thankful to see that he was in a zoom meeting with his team, which meant he would be distracted for a little while, allowing her some time alone to process the day's events.
Rosa set her water and granola bar onto her nightstand before climbing into bed, a deep sigh of relief falling from her lips as her back hit the mattress, allowing her very tense body to relax a bit.
Rosa’s relaxation didn’t last very long, though. After just about five minutes of silence, Carlos had knocked on her door.
“Cariño, can I come in please?” he whispered, unsure if she was asleep or not.
At first, Rosa remained silent, hoping that maybe he would walk away if she didn’t answer, but she knew better than that. Carlos would come in and kiss her forehead goodnight if he thought she was asleep- it's what he’s always done. “Come in” she finally said, sitting up against her headboard as she watched the handle turn slowly.
“Sorry, I’m sure you want space right now, but I just had to see with my own two eyes that you were ok” he admitted, sitting on the edge of the bed as he looked up at her. He could tell that Rosa was far from ok, though he knew she had no desire to talk about it right now.
“I’m ok, Carlos. Don’t worry about me” Rosa whispered, her hand reaching out to touch his, almost as a thank you for checking up on her.
“It’s my job to worry about you, hermosa. You’re my best friend, I always worry. Especially after how much you threw up this morning…”
Rosa laughed a little, giving his hand a squeeze. “We can talk about this a bit later once I'm feeling better, ok? I’ll go through the paperwork the doctor gave me.. For now, I could really use a good Carlos cuddle while watching a movie… what do you say?”
Carlos smiled and climbed under the covers, holding his arms out to her. “You know that I never turn down a movie night”
“But it’s daytime,” Rosa said, a small laugh escaping her.
Carlos jokingly rolled his eyes. “My bad, madam. I never turn down a good movie afternoon”
Rosa laughed and cuddled into him, her arms wrapping tightly around his torso as she rested her head on his chest.
Carlos wrapped his arms around her and turned on a random movie that was on their netflix suggested before pulling the covers up over the two of them. “Let me know if you need anything, ok?” he whispered before placing a kiss to the top of her head.
Rosa gave Carlos a gentle nod. “I will, Carlos. I will.” she whispered, closing her eyes as she had finally relaxed in the comfort of Carlos' arms. For just a slight moment, she had forgotten all about the events earlier in the day.
She had forgotten about Carlos catching her hunched over the toilet at 6am.
She had forgotten about Carlos encouraging her to visit the doctor.
She had forgotten about her trip to the doctors office, the blood work, the waiting for answers, and the pure shock that washed over her when the word's "you're pregnant" echoed through the small room.
For just a moment she had forgotten all about her Monaco mistakes, from the tequila to the bathroom sex.
For just a moment she had forgotten about her worries of the future, one that would include her child growing up without a father, her fear of being anything like her mother, and the struggles of raising a child alone.
The moment however, didn't last long. Guilt had suddenly washed over her as she laid in Carlos' arms. Carlos had been her best friend for nearly 12 years, yet she couldn't bear to tell him the news she had received an hour prior to this very moment. She couldn't hide this from him, it wasn't fair to him. He deserved to know what was going on, even if it meant that he saw her differently than he had all of these years.
"I'm pregnant with a stranger's baby" Rosa finally whispered, guilt persuading her to expose her secret.

vro0m's rewatch - 179/332
2016 German GP
Last race before summer break!
Okay so. Nico has been the fastest every session of the weekend. Apparently, he had an electrical issue on his first hot lap during quali but still managed to put in two good laps under pressure afterwards while Lewis made a mistake. So yeah no surprise he's on pole, Lewis ended up 0.107 behind him. Then it's Daniel, Max, Raikkonen, Seb, Valtteri, Hulkenberg, Perez and Massa. Lewis hasn't outqualified a teammate on this circuit since 08, btw.
He's acting very chill during the parade, saying he doesn't have a strategy to go against Nico because he likes being spontaneous. He also agrees with Buxton that the RedBulls and Ferraris are closer than they've been to them since Monaco.
For some reason, Seb has taken part in a "seat swap" with an ambulance driver. On a track. After giving each other advice, Seb gets to drive the ambulance and the ambulance driver gets to drive a Ferrari 488 gtb for a lap. The ambulance driver, in the Ferrari, does a 2.17:00. Seb gets impatient in the ambulance, it's not fast enough. He turns the sirens on. And he does it in 2.10:48 lol!
Meanwhile Daniel is praised for his form during the season by the skysports journalists, although he seemed to have had a moment after Max won his first race for RB. And in parallel we're told of Kvyat's demise. He was out in Q1 and has given a honestly kinda heart wrenching interview during which he seems at a complete loss as to what's happening to him and he's obviously battling tears. Horrible. The journalists are questioning RB’s system that has a high turnover and chews and spits out young drivers at a high rate. Nothing has changed to this day. Brundle says that's also the system that gave him his chance to begin with so he "can't complain too much", because he’s an asshole.
In other news there was a strategy group meeting and here's what came out of it : from that weekend onward the stupid team radio ban was lifted ; quali sessions will be stopped in case of double waved yellows (remember the controversy with Nico?) ; from the next season, there will be standing starts in case of wet conditions after a safety car period at the beginning of the race (huhhhh? So they go for a few laps behind safety car THEN do a standing start??? weird af I guess we'll see if it really happens…) ; and they can't make changes to the car during red flags periods in races (this one must have been overturned since then). Simon also explains there will be no halo in 2017, actually.
There's an interview with Max where he explains some of his overtakes to Anthony. Interestingly, we hear he's been getting a bit of heat from a number of other drivers, especially older ones, after some of his moves in the last race, that really pissed off Raikkonen. His position on it is “if it had been against the rules I would have gotten a penalty”. Brundle claims it's just what happens when "the new king arrives" and the same thing happened with Schumacher. Everybody agrees, including Max in his interview, that the move was on the limit.
Nico also gave an interview. Brundle says in Sochi he introduced him as the man who couldn't stop winning. At that point he'd won 7 in a row, and since then he's won 1 in seven races. He asks what's gone wrong. Nico says the opposition has had a cleaner run since then, especially Lewis, and that's who he should ask what's changed. "For sure. Something's changed with him," he chuckles. He's not worried, that's how it is in sports, it ebbs and flows. He feels great. The battle stays great. He's a bit frustrated about Hungary because he'd been better all weekend at everything except in turn 1 and that's what made the difference. It's down to details. He's talking so much jesus. He says he's got over it in a couple of days and he's ready to go again. It's his home race– second home race of the year. Brundle asks if he's watched that turn 1 and what he thought and he says of course you can tell in hindsight I should have done this or that but in the moment it's difficult. Brundle asks if he was more careful because they've made contact recently. No. Lewis was beside him and he couldn't shut the door. "Because if he's there, he's there." He says then it's up to him to brake later and go on the outside or something but Lewis braked much later and got it right. "You can see his car all over the place but he just managed to get the corner and… So, fair play."
Brundle says Lewis has tapped him on the track and poked him in the press conference in Hungary– Nico interrupts "what did he say? Oh yeah." Brundle answers anyway : about the double waved yellows. "Oh yeah yeah." – "Don't you sometimes just wanna–" Brundle continues but Nico interrupts again : "It wasn't a poke in the rib, it was just a… A bit of a…" he sighs, makes a face, "I don't know, a wrong picture that he gave. Which I felt the need to correct," he smiles. "Don't you get angry, doesn't he make you angry?" Brundle asks. "No, for sure no. Because I've learnt to make sure I focus on my job." He says all he thinks about is getting his job done and not what Lewis does. "That wouldn't be the right approach." Brundle reminds us he signed a contract for two more years, which means with the current year 3 potential championships. What is he gonna do to beat "this guy" and win a title? "Well you know he's a, he's a great driver so it's always gonna be a big challenge, and I never expect it to be easy against him but the challenge is awesome that's what I race for you know?" (I mean that's also the reason you stopped but I enjoy the tragedy of it.) "You know that better than anybody else, don't you? That you just love being up against one of the best out there, it's great because that's where the biggest thrill comes from when you know you've beaten a great opposition." Brundle says it sounds like he still thinks of himself as not as good as Lewis. "I'm not gonna say what I think in my mind I'll keep that to myself but don't worry I'm feeling good," he chuckles as Brundle tries to get him to talk anyway. He says he's excited to race here but he's also aware of the fact that he's beat him the last two years. So he needs to try to up his game to turn it around. Brundle asks if he thinks it feeds Lewis' confidence when he says he's the benchmark. "It's not my aim obviously to feed his confidence so… Let me know if he says yes, cause I'll change what I'm saying then." He chuckles. "Are you too nice a man to beat him?" Brundle asks. "That discussion is a bit strange," he says, and I agree. "3 races ago I was too mean a man, now I'm too nice a man, then it went back again to mean, it's like, I don't know where you're coming from." He's amused. He says he attacks as he needs to to win races.
Brundle asks what are his strengths and what are Lewis weaknesses, where does he see an opportunity. He shrugs, raises his eyebrows. "You give me some ideas. What do you think?" As Brundle thinks, he adds "maybe I can confirm them". Brundle says "I don't know, he has got relentless speed, hasn't he?" Nico says that's a known fact. Brundle continues : "In racecraft he seems like he's a bit stronger than you sometimes, you seem like you're– thank you for the question so I'll go through the answer." Nico laughs. Brundle claims Nico thinks about the weekend more and is more cerebral about the way he goes at it where Lewis is more instinctive (we've talked about how that's bullshit and probably racist before at some point). Nico jumps on the opportunity to say maybe the infamous yellow flags are a good example : he knew exactly what needed to be done to make sure it was safe but get the best out of the situation. Brundle says he got a bit of hate on twitter for saying he admired the move and his racing instinct– Nico interrupts : "but it wasn't instinct, it was prepared!" Brundle is surprised. Me too because it makes no sense, it's not like he could have foreseen it. He asks how he prepared for it then. He says it's just knowing the regulations. So he's just still on a campaign to defend that he obeyed the regulations and they don't say what Lewis said they do, I guess.
Afterwards, Ted is talking with a journalist, Michael Schmidt, who apparently knows Nico very well. He asks him about who Nico is both as a driver and as a person. Schmidt says as a person he's very well educated, maybe too correct. Ted asks him to elaborate and he goes on saying that you need to only think about yourself in this business, all great champions do. They agree that Keke didn't care about anybody and Nico's different from his father. He repeats Nico is very well educated and a good driver "but I think he had to work very hard, to learn a lot, to drive a lot to come to the level whereas somebody like Lewis it's his natural talent, he doesn't have to work as hard to be as fast as Nico." I can't emphasise enough how much I hate this rhetoric. Prompted by Ted, Schmidt agrees Nico might be a little too soft, in some cases. He gives Hungary as an example, "Lewis intentionally driving slow" and adds "I think Nico would never do that." Arguable. To beat Lewis in the same car, Schmidt thinks Nico needs lucky circumstances, or maybe bad luck for Lewis, or Lewis "coming into a mood where he is distracted". He says if Lewis is in good shape and Nico is in good shape, he doesn't think Nico has any chance.
Oh! We see baby Mick during the anthem! He was 17 then.
Tumblr media
Anyway. Time for the formation lap.
And they're racing!
Oh holy shit. Lewis takes the lead, and he's followed by the two RedBulls into turn 1! What went wrong for Nico? Seb also overtakes Raikkonen, while Max has overtaken Daniel. Lewis has a solid lead very quickly into the first lap, while in the background we see Nico cutting on the grass as he tries to overtake Ricciardo. The Ferraris are battling it out closely behind. Now Nico is under pressure from Seb. At the end of the first lap, Lewis is 1.3 in the lead ahead of Max, Daniel, Nico, Seb, Raikkonen, Valtteri, Hulkenberg, Jenson, and Massa. Nico attacks Ricciardo again, they're wheel to wheel, Daniel has the advantage of being on the inside in the next corner and pushes Rosberg off a bit but not completely enough that it would be considered aggressive. Nico is told to remember the plan for the first 4 laps, but surely that plan was based on the idea he'd be leading, right? Meanwhile Max is told that Lewis has been told to look after his tyres (don't know if it's true) and so they will do the same for now. When we come back from the many, many start replays, we see a bit of front wing on the track. Shortly after we see it comes from a contact between Haryanto and Wehrlein. Verstappen complains of the rear tyres.
It's lap 10. Lewis sets the fastest lap. He's 4.3 seconds ahead of Max, followed by Daniel +1.6, Nico +1.2, Seb +2.3, Raikkonen +1.4, Valtteri +4.2, Hulkenberg +2.1, Jenson +1.9 and Alonso +1.7. Verstappen pits and Mercedes also calls in Nico, rather than Lewis, in their attempt to try to catch Daniel. It's not a great stop for Nico, 3.5. Ricciardo pits, he's still ahead of Rosberg. Raikkonen complains of his tyres. It's hammertime! And Lewis comes in. He gets on softs, meanwhile Nico was put on a second set of supersofts. It's a good 2.5 stop. He's still in the lead of course. Raikkonen pits. Nico is told he's on plan B (lol). Lewis asks for the gap and is informed of everyone's strategy : Max and Nico on supersofts, Ricciardo on softs like he is, gap to Verstappen 5.8. Nico is closing on Daniel. On a replay we see an issue with Raikkonen's pitstop.
And it's lap 20. Lewis, Max +6.7, Ricciardo +1.3, Nico +1.6, Seb +4.7, Raikkonen +4.6, Valtteri +7.6, Hulkenberg +4.1, Jenson +4.3, and we never saw who was in P10 because we cut to replays. I feel like this is gonna be pretty straightforward and kinda boring to the end. Verstappen is unhappy with his tyres. Yeah really not much happening, those on the soft tyres have the better strategy. Massa pits and he's had contact in the first lap and he's been struggling since and they're now keeping him in for a looong time, checking the car. He leaves again. It was a 19.5 stop. Nico comes in as well. 2.6. Seb is complaining about blue flags as usual. Verstappen pits to cover Nico, while Nico was told to push hard. And he attacks Max! He pushed him wide! Max attacks back but can't make it. He's still very close though. Then slowly falls behind. Ohhh okay. On the replay it gets shadier. So Nico catches up to him on a straight and positions his car on the inside. Just as he does so, Max makes a slight move to cut him off, one of these twitches that he often does and are… Well… controversial?
Tumblr media
It's too late to close the door on Nico so he keeps going straight instead and brakes further in the corner, then brings it in towards Nico who had to adjust his trajectory due to Max's move but also maybe somewhat purposefully takes the corner slightly wider than needed, and that's how Max finds himself off track.
Tumblr media
As soon as the corner is done, Nico makes room for Max to rejoin the track.
Tumblr media
Of course, on the radio, Max says Nico pushed him off. Yeah he did. Also you did try to cut him off lol. It's under investigation. For some reason Linkin Park is there.
Anyway all that happened on the 30th lap. Lewis, Daniel +11.5!, Seb +8.5, Raikkonen +2.7, Rosberg +2.4, Max +1.0, Valtteri +10.6, Hulkenberg +3.1, Jenson +7.3, and Magnussen +16.4. With this type of gaps it might get really really boring. Seb pits. Lewis is told things are kicking off and he should keep the pace up. Where, Bono? Where is it kicking off? Please tell me. Rosberg is attacking Raikkonen, so maybe he's right and then there's a second investigation for pushing someone off involving Grosjean and Magnussen. Raikkonen pits. And that's a 5 second time penalty for Nico! Oh and Ricciardo pits and gets the supersofts again which is extremely weird because they're not working well and degrade very quickly… Lewis pits as well 2.2, also on the supersofts… Nico is not happy with the penalty. "Can you explain to them that I was full lock on the steering wheel and I couldn’t steer more. And he moved in braking, that was the big problem. That’s completely not allowed." He's right about the moving under braking thing being very shady. It doesn't allow you to push people wide though. Crofty says Max did move and then realised Nico was there and stopped his move which is what I saw as well. Lewis is told he's on plan B and most of the field is. Basically they all went to a 3 stop strategy, which explains them being back on supersofts. Shortly after, the engineer reassures Nico : "You’re doing a really good job there Nico. Gap to Verstappen is 3.2. Remember everybody’s one a three-stop. You are P2 at the moment. So just need to pull that gap and it’s yours." Massa is retiring. Now Daniel is catching Max.
On lap 40, Lewis, Nico +7.4, Max +3.3, Daniel +0.6, Seb +10.2, (Grosjean complains of smoke coming out the car), Raikkonen +3.1, Hulkenberg +19.3, Valtteri +1.3, Jenson +7.7, Alonso +3.2. Daniel overtakes Max, unsurprisingly. Of note, Daniel is on supersofts and Max on softs, and the opposite should be true after the next round of pit stops. Max says he even has understeer on this tyre. Daniel is told Nico is struggling a bit. He is currently very very fast. He's half a second behind. Seb is told to box but he refuses. Nico pits, serves his penalty, gets the softs. They waited more than enough, the stop lasts 12 seconds. Seb is told they need to box to undercut. "They're miles away! Who do you want to undercut?" Verstappen. Who is 8 seconds away. So it’s ridiculous. And then he's told to stay out. Max pits. Lewis pits. Raikkonen pits. As we thought Max is now catching Daniel very quickly. Ricciardo is told to push to make a gap to Verstappen. And he sets the fastest lap.
It's lap 50. Daniel is closing rapidly on Lewis now, the gap being 7.4. Max is 2.5 behind, followed by Nico +4.9, Seb +4.3, Raikkonen +9.1, Valtteri +8, Hulkenberg +14, Jenson +11, and Alonso +4.8. As the journalists are saying, unfortunately for Lewis, now might be the time when he's thinking about turning his engine down to save it. Ricciardo is still gaining very very fast. 1.6 seconds in a lap. The gap is down to 6.5. Lewis is asking about Nico's best. 6.3. Lewis picks up the pace. He's also on softs while Daniel is on supersofts. The gap goes back up to 8.
Lap 60, almost done. Lewis, Ricciardo +6.9, Verstappen +2.5, Rosberg +6.0, Seb +8.8, Raikkonen +10.3, Valtteri +25.4, Hulkenberg +3.2, Jenson +11.4, and Alonso +3.6. Nasr is retiring but he can't even make it into the box, he stops at the beginning of the pitlane. Lewis reports some spots of rain on his visor.
And it's the end of the race!
Lewis wins. He's sharing the podium with both RedBull drivers. Nico is 4th, so Lewis leaves for the break with a 19 point lead.
Tumblr media
"Get in there, Lewis! Great work, mate. Beautiful start, fantastically managed. Awesome race, mate, well done." Lewis thanks everyone.
Niki says Nico was unlucky and the RB did better than they thought they would. About the penalty he says it was on the limit and the decision is 50/50. He says Nico won't be happy to go into the break with Lewis ahead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lewis is high as fuck, whooping continuously. He has a mohawk? He's jumping up and down. Happy about his start, waving to the grid girls "Hi ladies!" HIGH high. Like flying.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He kisses his trophy and throws it in the air again. Good spraying. He and the Merc representative drink from their trophies. Meanwhile it's Ricciardo's first shoey and the journalists are very confused by the concept.
Tumblr media
Some whistling by the crowd when Lewis salutes everyone in his usual manner. He was very happy about the race. It was pretty straight forward. He says he's proud to be here for Mercedes, he's been with them since he was 13. He says he didn't make any mistakes, stayed optimistic after a tougher day Saturday.
During Ricciardo's interview, Lewis seems to be waving individually to each of his fans he can see in the crowd. Actually I think there's more Max fans than even Seb or Nico fans here.
Lewis says he's gonna relax during the break and spend it with his dogs, and family and friends. (He says it in that order). He poses for a photo with both RedBull drivers. Then it's just the two of them as he leaves.
Tumblr media
Post race, Nico says none of the parts of the start were good and he didn't expect to be penalised for what he thought was a good battle. He says he doesn't care about the 19 points, the harder thing is losing the race the way he did. On the replays, Anthony shows images that seem to indicate that he indeed was on full lock and unable to turn more than he did, due to the fact that he braked late because of Max's move.
Toto says a win is a win and they've won all races so far except the one they took each other out. Great record sheet lmao. He still calls it bittersweet. He says they don't understand what happened with Nico's start and lack of pace, then there was the issue with the pitstop. Apparently they had a stopwatch failure. Damon Hill asks how it is possible that Nico is doing great in quali but Lewis is still disappearing in the distance during races. He says it wasn't always like this, there's a human in the car and you need to feel comfortable in all aspects. He had an awful start, and got penalised. Simon asks if Lewis is going to take his new engine and hence the penalty in Spa. Toto says they haven't decided yet. They're trying to penalise him as little as possible.
Lewis is still high af. He gets to the media pen jumping like a boy with a huge grin on his face.
Tumblr media
He acts like he didn't know the gap is now 19 points but I don't believe him lol. "Wow is it that?" he says. "Holy crap I hadn't even realised. Huh. Awesome." He's completely deadpan. Then he repeats awesome with an only slightly more coherent body language, throwing his head back and closing his eyes. "Oh my god that's really good," he says still in the same conversational tone of voice.
Tumblr media
Rachel comments it looks like relief. He says no it's not relief which boy what was it then. You just looked to the heavens hearing it. Either you're a bad actor or a bad liar. Maybe both. He says he didn't know and it's just nice, he was 43 points behind at some point. "What a day, what a great race from me," he says completely naturally.
Tumblr media
"I wasn't expecting to be this strong as I was today." He had a great start, Pez has been working very hard on helping him get off the line better and more consistently. "And the work has really paid off so big thanks to Pez and all my guys in the garage" who struggled with him earlier in the year. He sighs. "It felt like we were all doing something wrong, (inaudible) we were just working hard." And it has finally started to pay off. It's a well deserved break. "My engine guys, my engineer Bono and Ricky, those guys are doing a fantastic job as always and… I'm just super, super happy with today, you know."
Tumblr media
He says about the day before, when he "personally fails knowing better after his 23 years of driving" (again with the ‘I've been here for a long time’ thing) "you kick yourself and you hope to not do it again". He says that day feels the opposite because he delivered the way he was supposed to. He knew he had pace, he worked the tyres just right, he was never under threat from the guys behind, and no mistakes, he smiles wide, "which was really really nice, no lock up or offs or anything like that so, very very happy with that and…" He looks down and smirks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I'm not leaving you with any opportunity to ask me any question," he adds quickly and they laugh. "And lastly I just want to say a big big thank you to my fans, they've been supportive. Fans have turn up here in Germany and regardless of yesterday they've been like 'you're gonna win tomorrow you're gonna win tomorrow' and that positive energy those guys continuously throw at me and show through social media or letters or whatever it is means the world to me so big thank you to them I hope they all have an amazing holiday cause I'm definitely gonna have one," he starts bouncing again and giggling.
Tumblr media
Rachel says she has one question if that's alright. "No, no, no," he says. "Just kidding."
Tumblr media
She says he shared the podium with two RedBulls and we saw at the end they were pushing a bit and so maybe he had to take more life out of his engine than he'd have liked. How much of a threat does he think they will be in the second half of the season? He says there's a quota which you're able to use with the engine "and I was nowhere near it." He says he turned it down right from the early stages of the race to see if he could maintain and manage the gap to them that way and he was able to. He only needed to turn it up in the last stint when they started picking up the pace and he was looking after his tyres. The gap shrunk pretty quickly and when it got to 6 he thought it was enough, he chuckles.
Tumblr media
So he went back to normal race mode and was able to match and then pull away a bit. He didn't need more than that.
At the end of Ricciardo's interview, during which they watched some replays, they show that while that happened, Lewis walked by and tried knocking his cap off.
Tumblr media
Ohhh and extremely shady moment in press conference : Max said of his battle with Nico "I had to go off the track otherwise we would have crashed" and Lewis was sitting next to him with his head down hidden by his cap so he wasn't audible but Ted thinks he said "yep" and Max then said "yeah Lewis knows what I'm talking about" referring to their own Austrian incident. Like Max’s main racing skill isn’t putting his car in the way and forcing the others not to crash with him lol. Anyway.
In his final interview, Brundle says Lewis didn't feel like he was leading after the previous race because he had to take the engine penalty. Does he feel like he's leading now? Lewis sighs, he's out of breath from the post team photo running. "I feel I'm closer to leading it." He never thought he'd come back from being 43 points behind to being 19 points ahead. "I just didn't give up. We just didn't give up. These guys have worked so hard. Both here and back at the factory." He's super grateful for his engine holding on as long as it is but they do have an engine penalty ahead. "The life that it's led and the laps that I've led with it," it's as good a buffer as he could get in these circumstances. Brundle says it seems like their car isn't as good in traffic (I think? His question was unclear.) Lewis disagrees as in not more than the other cars, there's a lot of turbulence in traffic. He doesn't think their car is more impacted than others but he might be wrong, he says. "Fortunately today I didn't have to be too much in traffic," he smiles. He says it was a bit gusty that day and when you get behind backmarkers you can definitely feel the car being unsettled. But it's not different from his previous cars. Brundle asks if at some point he thought "come on guys, where are you today?" Lewis smiles, then chuckles. "No it was never like that but I was never really under threat which is a really nice thing to think and to know." He told his team to tell him when he needed to pick up the pace because he was managing and he was able to turn the engine back up when he needed to. Brundle asks where he's heading for summer break. "It's gonna be the most amazing summer break all I can say is tomorrow I'll be on the beach sipping on pina colada, enjoying…" He breaks into laughter. "Enjoy the sun! Enjoying, I'll be smiling from ear to ear from today and from these last few races." Again he goes nostalgic, what is up with that in this season? – saying he's been with Mercedes since he was 13, it's his 49th win, he's happy he won on Mercedes’ home turf. Brundle asks if the 4th title is within touching distance. "I have every belief that it's possible to do it, I've got incredible support back in the UK but also around the world from many Brits but also people from different nations." He thanks them to the camera for their love and support. He says he doesn't feel like he could race with a full heart like he did that day if it wasn't for them.

debrief with kevin magnussen - episode 3 out of 3 (by viaplay) part 2
the japanese grand prix
the visibility was even worse than what we saw from the camera on top of the car, kevin could not see past his front wheels. in the studio they are going through the start where we also see albon drive directly into k-mag and kevin just said “and here i’m hit by albon who also can’t see anything.” basically the visibility was so low that they were almost all driving completely blind with 250 km/h. and as kev points out, he also cannot just go slow or break in weird places because then the cars behind him will slam into him.
kevin would have crashed directly into sainz if norris had not gotten wheelspin at the corner before which allowed k-mag to pass him. if that had not happened, norris and k-mag would have gone side by side and kevin would have smashed into sainz. in the onboard, even from the view of the camera on top of the car, you literally cannot see the ferrari despite it being red through the spray. it is just invisible and it’s so so scary to think about how bad that crash could have been for both of them.
the spray has gotten significantly worse due to the new cars having more downforce. kev doesn’t know how it can be fixed, but something definitely needs to be done because it is too dangerous. and he does not want to lose the wet races because those are often the most fun. but yeah, he confirmed that the reason they don’t really use the full wets/extreme wets is because of the amount of spray they cause.
kev vs seb duel
in the studio, they analysed the duel kev and seb had at the end of cota and while kevin is still a little annoyed at losing it, he did praise vettel multiple times. especially at the corner where kevin took the ideal racing line and forced seb to go around him, he said that he could barely go full speed through it (partly because his tyres were disintegrating but it’s also just hard), but seb somehow managed to go full speed on the dirty part of the track to pass k-mag. and then kevin tried to trick seb to take back his position, but vettel read him and blocked him, which kevin also found impressive but annoying. kevin does point out that seb did get a track limits warning during the duel, hahaha, but in the end then he said that seb just drove brilliantly and he has nothing but respect for that.
mick schumacher and nico hulkenberg
kevin is looking forward to working with nico who he says is a really good driver, he is a safe choice for haas and is a very consistent driver. he also has a lot of self-esteem on track. he is really looking forward to the competition with nico. he said that was what worked so well with him and grosjean. everyone, not just the drivers, on the different sides of the garage knew they had to work at their absolute top level to beat the other side. and that is what a formula 1 team needs.
when asked why kevin thinks haas chose hulkenberg over schumacher, kev said this: “there is nothing wrong with mick's talent, he is definitely competent in the car. but he could not get the talent to come out often enough. he could get really stressed. and then he made some costly mistakes and had some weekends where he was too far behind. there is nothing wrong with his top level, maybe his bottom level was just too low sometimes. but he is still pretty inexperienced. last year he was the team’s darling and the unquestioned leader because the other guy was a mess. and then here i come out of nowhere and everyone is so happy to see me. that was an unfortunate and tough situation for him. and then mick also just have a surname that puts such a burden on him. the pressure is not only from others but himself too. imagine carrying the legacy of michael schumacher. i think it's just too much pressure.”
the 2023 season
formula 1 is all about out-developing the others because no one is standing still, so while the goal for haas does have to be to take another step forward, they are also aware that it is not so simple, but they have better tools for taking that step forward next season than ever before. but kevin is excited because haas will get new pitstop equipment (the one they used last season was from 2016...), they get a bigger strategy team and more people working on set-up. kevin hear some things through the grapevine and he says that there are real indications that the car is looking good. they are matching more with ferrari. and kevin reveals that haas also sacrificed some money in 2022 to use it on the development of the 2023 car instead, so he is hopeful that the car will be even better.
the biggest problem with the 2022 car was when they were running low downforce. as the only team on the grid haas did not have a dedicated low downforce rear wing and that was a big disadvantage.
kevin was asked about how hard it will be with 24 races (which we now know will only be 23), but he does not want to complain for himself because the mechanics have it much harder than the drivers. it will mostly be bad for them and he does think the race calendar is too packed with races because the mechanics cannot get home between races anymore. he is worried that the mechanics are going to leave the sport. the drivers have the luxury of flying home between most races and can sit in business class, so he does not like to complain.
he is looking forward to all the classic races in 2023 like monaco, suzuka and silverstone. but he is also looking forward to las vegas. not really because of the track which he admits look a little boring, but he thinks it will be a really big event. in his opinion, the u.s. is good at creating a big show and now they have just found a new sport to put a lot of effort into.
kevin has no problem with the new fans of f1. he is aware that a significant amount of fans, especially american fans, have started watching formula 1 because of ‘drive to survive’ and he thinks it’s fine. the most important thing for him is that the sport is growing. even if some fans see him more as reality star (or as he says “a bearded kim kardashian”), kevin is just happy that they are watching the races. (mai note: essentially k-mag says “stop gatekeeping f1, it is for everyone″).

Won't Last Long
Sebmark | Explicit | 2.8k | Read on AO3
Most Formula One drivers do, they say. In interviews and press conferences, it’s not uncommon to hear a driver confess to wetting themselves during a race. Even the likes of Michael Schumacher, arguably the greatest driver to ever drive, have done it. Right now, Seb’s heavily considering the option of joining the vast ranks of drivers who have wet themselves during a race. Or: Seb gets desperate during a race and makes it out of the car only to be ambushed on his way to the bathroom.
Sebastian Vettel’s self-control has always been . . . iffy, at the very least.
While of course intelligent under the surface, he’s been known to be a bit brash at times, the words coming out of his mouth oftentimes snarky and just a little dumb. He’s never been one to shy away from what he wants; if Seb wants it, he won’t give up until he gets it. It’s safe to say, then, that keeping himself at bay is difficult sometimes.
No matter how bad his self-control might be, though, Seb has never peed himself in his car. Ever.
Most Formula One drivers do, they say. In interviews and press conferences, it’s not uncommon to hear a driver confess to wetting themselves during a race. Even the likes of Michael Schumacher, arguably the greatest driver to ever drive, have done it.
That’s what Seb reminds himself in his head, over and over, teeth clenched so hard he worries they might break, as he floors it in his car and tries to shakily steer through the last few laps of this race. He has to pee, and he has to pee bad. Seb isn’t sure what it is—he’d made sure to use the bathroom before getting in the car, but he did drink a lot of water beforehand and—well, no matter. He’s tensing nearly every muscle in his body, resisting the urge to twist and press his thighs together to relieve some of the ache on his bladder. Seb’s practically bursting with it, and right now he’s heavily considering the option of joining the vast ranks of drivers who have wet themselves during a race.
It would be wrong, Seb tells himself, taking a deep breath in and letting it out in a frustrated groan as he drives along a straight. He wouldn’t leave the mechanics with that mess, and he certainly wouldn’t want to climb out of the car with a half-soaked race suit and expose his accident to the world. That would just be humiliating.
One more lap now.
Climbing out of the car will be a different story, Seb thinks. It’s hard to hold it now, when he’s practically rendered immobile by his car, but—Seb shudders as he imagines it—he’ll have to climb out of it, push his knees to his chest to get out, then jump out onto the track, jostling his bladder even further, and what if he loses control then? He’ll be standing out on the track beside his parked car, hundreds of cameras on him, and he’ll be wetting himself in front of the entire world. Seb winces, bottom lip caught between his teeth under his balaclava, as he realises just how dire this situation is.
Half a lap, he yells at himself in his head, then a quarter lap. He’s gripping the steering wheel so tight that he’s amazed it’s not crumpling in his hands. The final straight now—Seb sees the chequered flag waving out in front of him, even hears the thrilled cheers from the crowd over the scream of his car’s engine. His overwhelming urge to pee ebbs for just a moment once he crosses the finish line, winning yet again, shouting over the radio in victory.
During the cooldown lap, the adrenaline runs through Seb’s veins like liquid gold. As he navigates the twists and turns of the track, though, his seatbelt digs into his overfilled bladder, making him wince yet again, hissing through his teeth. He tries to squirm, shy away from the seatbelt stretched tight across his lower stomach, but to no avail; he pants as he struggles to keep himself under control, squeezing his eyes shut momentarily.
Seb turns into parc fermé and breathes a soft sigh of relief. He’s so close to the bathroom, now—he nearly wants to moan at how good he knows it’ll feel to let it all go and relieve the ache. He parks his car, kills the engine, and immediately fumbles to get the seatbelt undone, twisting free from the restraints. It hurts to bend his knees to his chest to get out of the car—he nearly has to hold his breath as he does it—but it’s surprisingly manageable once Seb has his feet on asphalt, stretched to his full height. Seb’s growing increasingly desperate by the second, however, so after exchanging handshakes and hugs with Jenson and Lewis, who finished second and third, he makes a beeline indoors, seeking out the relief he’s been craving.
Much to Seb’s absolute horror, when he finally reaches the door of the nearest single-stall bathroom, it is decidedly locked. Seb jiggles the handle, growing desperate, still holding his helmet in one arm. “Shit,” he whispers, a frustrated whine emitting from the back of his throat. He’ll have to go to the other bathroom, then, the one that’s nearly on the other side of the goddamn building.
Seb takes a deep breath, twists to press his free hand between his thighs for a moment, sets his helmet onto the floor, then takes off for the other bathroom, quick on his feet as he traverses the corridors. He can’t be late to his own podium ceremony, either—that would be just as embarrassing as what he was trying to avoid here in the first place.
“Seb?” A voice sounds from behind him—a very low, a very annoying, and a very Aussie voice. Seb turns slowly, mortified to see his teammate standing at the junction of two hallways, dark eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “The hell are you doing, mate? Didn’t you just win?”
Seriously, Seb doesn’t think a worse person could have found him in this state. Mark’s still angry with him over the majority of last year’s season, after all, and the feeling is certainly mutual. He moves to glare, opens his mouth to tell Mark to fuck off, or something of a similar nature, but a sudden pang of desperation hits Seb’s bladder and all that comes out is a pathetic little squeak. Heat rushes to his cheeks and he manages to form words despite his internal battle. “I—I was just, ah, you know,” Seb says, gesturing wildly in hopes that Mark understands.
He doesn’t. Mark merely raises an eyebrow.
Shame burns Seb’s cheeks. He’s itching to just take off again, find the bathroom before the podium ceremony starts without him, but now he’s stuck struggling to explain himself. “The, uh, bathroom,” he forces out, twisting to cross his thighs over one another. “The other one was locked.”
“Mate,” Mark says, stepping towards Seb with that patronising little smile on his handsome face, “you’re not making it all the way to the other one in time. What if that one’s locked, anyway?”
Shit. Seb hadn’t thought that far ahead. He squeezes his eyes shut, emitting another frustrated groan. It’s clear that he’s running out of options. “What am I—” he tries, only to be cut off by a short burst of liquid heat escaping his cock, quickly soaking into the thin fabric of his boxers. He gasps, bringing one hand down to squeeze his cock, a shiver wracking his body. “What am I supposed to do then?” Seb’s question sounds a lot more whiny and desperate than he intended.
Mark steps closer, gets one hand around Seb’s bicep, and roughly tugs him down a secluded, dead-ended section of hallway. Seb gasps again, yanks his arm away from Mark, and presses his hand between his thighs, his bladder throbbing at the pressure.
“Stop, I—I can’t—” Seb whimpers, his twitching muscles threatening to give out again. He squeezes desperately at his cock, cheeks burning with embarrassment because Mark is here and looking at him when he’s like this. “I don’t—I don’t know what to—” Panicked, Seb’s gaze flits up to meet Mark’s, and his stomach twists at what he sees. Mark’s eyes look dark and hungry, as if he wants to see this scene unfold before him.
“Do you really think you can make it?” Mark asks, his tone just condescending enough to boil Seb’s blood a little. He steps closer to Seb, towering over him, crowding him against the wall. If anyone stumbled upon them like this, they’d certainly have some explaining to do.
Tears gather in Seb’s pretty blue eyes. His hope of making it to a bathroom rapidly deteriorates and it becomes clear to him what he’ll be made to do. “No,” he chokes out. “I can’t, but—” he gasps again when his twitching cock releases another hot wash of pee out into his clothes, and this time, he feels it run down his thigh before soaking into his fireproofs. He looks anywhere except for at Mark, his plush bottom lip caught tightly between his teeth.
“Seb,” Mark says, his voice uncharacteristically low and firm, prompting Seb to look up at him, eyes wet with tears. “Wouldn’t it feel so nice to let go, hmm?”
Seb’s lips part as he considers the thought. He doesn’t have much of a choice, anyway; it’s either piss his pants right here in front of his teammate, or piss his pants in front of potentially a lot more watching eyes. Mark is right, as much as Seb doesn’t want to admit it—it would feel awfully nice to let go, feel the warmth spread over the fabric. Slowly, Seb pulls his hand out from between his thighs, and Mark takes it into one of his—Seb lets him keep it there. That hot tingling feeling spreads out from Seb’s core into each of his limbs, coiling warm and needy right in Seb’s cock, and he’s close, he’s so close.
With a choked little sob, Seb squeezes his eyes shut and relaxes, letting it come. A thin, hot stream trickles down over his cock before soaking through his boxers and running down his thighs. Seb pants, chest heaving as he wills himself to relax further, let it all out, and that’s when his body finally seems to get the message.
His eyes fly open and he gasps at the downright dizzying, full-body rush that rips through him in an instant as his bladder lets go completely, emptying itself into his clothes. It all feels so hot and wet and delicious as that liquid heat floods his crotch and the wet patch on his race suit blooms bigger and bigger. He can feel it everywhere; hot piss runs down his thighs and pools at his ass and even seeps up into the thin fireproof undershirt he’s wearing underneath.
Seb lets out a drawn-out moan at the surprising relief of it all, squirming with a long, high whimper. He’s peeing so hard he can just about hear the hiss of it against his boxers, spilling out into his clothes and thoroughly soaking his lower half. If his race suit was just a touch lighter, he thinks, it would be a lot prettier to look at, but unfortunately dark navy blue leaves a lot up to the imagination. It still feels fantastic, though, the hot wet rush, and with each movement Seb makes, the wet fabric of his boxers drags over his oversensitive cock and makes his back arch.
“There you go, sweetheart,” Mark murmurs as he watches Seb wet himself. He looks so pretty like this, Mark thinks, with his flushed cheeks and bitten lips and his long eyelashes clumped together with unshed tears. He brings his free hand, the one not holding one of Seb’s, to Seb’s front, gently cupping his still-pissing cock through his clothes. The warmth of it is nearly dizzying, washing continuously over the thick fabric of Seb’s race suit.
Seb jolts at Mark’s touch, instinctively trying to pull away, but he’s rather trapped between Mark and the wall and he just lets it happen with a defeated whine. He’s embarrassed, beyond humiliated to have Mark watching him while he’s doing this, not to mention touching his cock while he’s still pissing. “Mark,” he tries to protest, but it comes out as a moan just as Mark squeezes his cock, the drag of the wet fabric against it making his legs feel like jelly.
He just keeps peeing, too, all rushing out of him in an endless torrent of bliss. Hot pee continues spilling down his thighs, completely soaking the seat of his race suit. Slowly bringing his eyes up to meet Mark’s, Seb lets his hips move a little, beginning a slow, filthy grind forward against Mark’s warm palm. His breaths quicken, becoming shorter and needier as the flow tapers off and his cock rapidly hardens in wake of the overwhelming relief.
“F—fuck,” Seb curses under his breath as his hips twitch forward of their own accord, his cock positively throbbing at the delicious friction. He squeezes Mark’s hand tightly, fisting at the fabric on Mark’s bicep with his other hand for some leverage. This is dirty and he knows it—he’s soaked practically from waist to toe and rutting into his teammate’s hand like he’s a fucking animal in heat—but he can’t force himself to hate it no matter what he does.
Mark leans closer, his lips grazing the soft stubble on the side of Seb’s jaw. He sucks a bruise into the skin there, grinning into it when Seb whines and bucks into Mark’s palm. Pulling back to take a good look at Seb’s wrecked face, Mark smiles and murmurs, “Depraved little thing, aren’t you, Sebi? Getting off on not being able to control yourself?”
Seb hisses and moans in response, panting as he feels himself draw closer and closer to an orgasm. “You—” his fingertips dig into Mark’s arm as his grinding becomes more desperate, his hips stuttering with it— “you liked watching it, fuck off.” He tries to glare at Mark, tries to arrange his eyebrows into some semblance of a scowl, but Mark gives his cock another little squeeze and he can’t help but toss his head back, letting it thump against the wall as he chases his own pleasure.
“I did,” Mark says, chuckling all low and rumbly, bringing their tangled hands up to pin Seb’s hand to the wall. “You’re a lot less annoying when you’re pissing yourself in front of me, sweetheart.”
Seb’s too lost in his own pleasure to form words anymore. He’s panting and moaning, unabashed and whorish, as he grinds his soaked, aching cock up against Mark’s palm. The unmistakable hot coil of his orgasm builds and tightens, sending hot waves of delicious pleasure spreading throughout his muscles, before snapping, making his back arch against the wall yet again as he comes in his clothes with a gasping cry. Slick ropes of his come spurt out against his wet cockhead, the sticky warmth adding to the overwhelming friction.
As Seb comes down from his high, his exhausted bladder gives no resistance against the last few spurts of pee Seb lets out, straight into his dripping wet clothes. He gives one last soft moan, chest heaving as he recovers from it all.
“Fucking Christ,” Mark mutters in a whisper, utterly incredulous at what he just witnessed. With his dry hand, he lets go of Seb’s hand before gently brushing away the tears that had spilled out onto his blood-hot cheeks. Seb looks utterly ruined, and he’ll have to go out in front of the world and pretend like this never happened in a matter of moments.
“Fuck,” Seb whines, peeling his eyes open, his legs threatening to give out with how much they’re shaking. He lets himself float dazedly over cloud nine for another few seconds before he stiffens and straightens up against the wall. “Fuck. Fuck. The podium,” he says, voice cracking on the last word. “I have to—”
Mark wipes his wet hand on a section of dry fabric just above Seb’s waist, then guides Seb out from where he’s pressed against the wall, his hand resting on the small of Seb’s back. “Come on,” he urges. “We’ll have time to clean up. If the bathroom isn’t locked, that is.” He flashes a devilish grin at Seb, realising he may just be a little sick in the head for enjoying every second of this.
Seb curses under his breath and swats Mark’s shoulder, sticking his bitten bottom lip out in a pout. His cheeks still burn with embarrassment, but the knowledge that Mark liked watching him mitigates his shame a little. “You dick,” he whines, forcing his shaky legs to carry him down the corridor side by side with Mark.
“Ah-ah, Sebi. Was just being objective.”
Right, Seb thinks, letting out an exasperated scoff. He totally had that planned from the beginning.

“I always loved racing in the wet conditions and going quick and trying to find the limit, you know, and I think, especially in a qualifying like this and at a track like this, there’s big potential in drivers showing what they can do, and I felt like I was able to do that today.”
