Hey, anyone in Science Olympiad… the guy doing Air Trajectory just bailed on us. (He’s also left me to die for Optics, but I’ll be fiiiiine.) Can someone take mercy on the smallest SO team known to man and send us whatever info you can spare?
We have ten people, and our coach is the most intimidating teacher I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. I’m not above begging for the sake of my team.
Science Olympiad is 50% trying to fit a dumb amount of words onto one piece of paper, 49% getting lost in someone else's high school during competition, and like maybe 1% studying.
My phone broke at science olympiad when I was 2 hours away from home and the only other person with the phone number for who I needed to call (my dad) was my ex boyfriend who I'm on awful terms with.
Somehow I still placed in all of my events.
Science olympiad is so worth it, it's crack and I love it.
hey scioly side of tumblr 😀🫠

I knew going in that we'd do poorly, but sixth out of six full teams was just pathetic. I almost wish I wasn't graduating just so I could make sure that we actually have a team next year.
I so badly want to steal LaDue's resources, because it was almost physically painful watching their A-Team take medal after medal after medal and not even seem excited about it. I saw some kids from their team seeming outraged because they placed second in an event. DO YOU KNOW HOW LUCKY YOU ARE?! They try out for events, they take it as a class, they have officers, they have people who care!
Every year, our coach has to scrape the bottom of the fucking barrel of our school to cobble a team together. Ducking out is not an option. We always procrastinate, we're always struggling, we've always been a leaky dinghy barely held together by tape that lost its stickiness years ago and pure fear. Yet our coach still sends someone to State every year. Yet I still placed in four of my 5 events this year, 3 of them silver medals. Yet we still sometimes claw ahead of all the other schools who studied for months.
And if we had the resources they did? Oh, that would be glorious.
Fear, Loathing, and Comics, at the Basement Sale (2012)

Watching Ed, Jim, and Tom together here, diving in the dollar bins and talking comics, is so bittersweet.
Ed's impact on me will last through my days. What he and Jim built created a community of kind, like-minded people where, whatever our differences, our love of comics was shared.
Cartoonist Kayfabe had a culture of creation.
The mob/activists/cancel culture, whatever you want to call it, this sickness in our society. It is a culture of destruction.
They snuff out the bright lights.
They diminish all of us.
Ed, you have left a huge positive impression on so many people, and that is something that will live on in those of us you inspired forever.
