Maybe something angsty/fluffy with Sofia Marchetti?
Yesssss!!! I just re-watched every scene with Sofia in it (s/o to HannahWadFans on YT for doing gods work💕) to get a little refresher on Sofia!
I'm SO excited to write this! I hope you enjoy it!💕
A/n: Two fics in one day?! Damn I'm spoiling you guys😜😂
"Jackson!" Sofia calls out. "Come on! We're gonna be late!"
"I'm coming, I'm coming!" Jackson says with a big of an edge to his voice.
"I'll be in the car!"
Jackson walks past you once he gets down the stairs. Right away you know that something is bothering him. He's been much more on edge recently, his temper has gotten shorter, he's had an attitude when he talks to you or Sofia. He hasn't been himself and you're starting to worry about him.
"Hey, Jackson." You say before he heads out the door.
"Yeah?"
"Are you okay? You haven't been yourself lately, I'm starting to worry about you kid." You say, giving him a comforting smile.
Jackson pauses for a moment before letting out an exhale, you can see some of the tension in his body melt away.
"Yeah, I'm fine." He says unconvincingly.
"Hey," You walk up to him and put your hands on his shoulders. "whatever it is, I'm here for you. Whenever you want to talk, okay?"
Jackson nods his head and wraps his arms around your waist and pulls you in for a hug.
"I know, thank you." His voice a little somber, but the edge from earlier is gone.
He towers over you by a few inches but you still manage to place a small kiss on his head.
Sofia beeps the car horn from outside.
"Jackson! We're going to be late!" She yells.
You can feel the tension build right back up as you hug him, so you give him an extra squeeze.
"She loves you, she's just doing what she thinks is right." You softly say.
"I know." Sofia beeps the car horn again. "I should go before the entire neighborhood learns that I'll be late for training." He says.
Jackson gives you a small smile before heading out the door. He gets in the car and they pull away.
Jackson's mum's split up a couple of years ago and you've been with Sofia for a little less than two years. She wasn't divorced for long before the two of you met and neither of you were expecting to hit it off so well. She was barely divorced for six months when you two started dating. Meeting Jackson for the first time was nerve wracking, his mum's just got divorced and one of them was already dating someone else, you weren't sure how he was going to react.
At first, he put very little effort into getting to know you, assuming you were just some kind of rebound for his mother. Truthfully, you understood and didn't take it personally. Sofia however, was less understanding. Jackson eventually came around and started liking you more, especially when he overhead the two of you talking about him. Sofia was angry that he was being so standoffish, but you were trying to get her to see it from his perspective. She eventually saw it from his perspective, soft of, but it meant a lot to Jackson that you were on his side, even if he was making painfully obvious that he didn't like you very much. After that conversation, the two of you became closer and a year later you moved into Sofia's house.
Since Jackson wasn't 18 his mums got divorced they both got 50/50 custody of him so he went back and fourth between their houses. Eventually you met Sofia's ex-wife, Jacksons other mother, Roz. It was a little awkward at first, but once she saw how Jackson spoke about you and seemed to take such a liking to you, she warmed up pretty quickly. Sofia and Roz's relationship was civil, they're weren't best friends, but they also didn't want to kill each other when they saw each other. They both put their differences aside for Jackson and it was something you really admired about their relationship.
Grabbing your book, you lay down on the couch and continue reading. Thirty minutes later Sofia walks in the door, she tosses her keys in the bowl near the table and walks into the living room.
"We were five minutes late." She says, clearly aggravated.
"Oh shit, did they kick you guys out?" You said playfully as you read your book on the couch.
"I'm serious y/n."
"So was I."
Sofia grabs the book out of your hand and crosses her arms.
"Hey!"
"I need you to help get him out of the door in the morning, not procrastinate and make him late!"
"Sofia-"
"He needs to be on time, he must stick to his schedule."
"Babe," You say as you sit up. You gently grab her wrist and guide her to sit on the couch. "You were going to be late anyway, even if you drove like a bat out of hell." She rolls her eyes at you. "I'm serious. I'm sorry I was an accomplice, but I had to check on him. He hasn't been himself and I'm starting to get worried."
"He's fine, he just needs to push himself more."
"Sofia he's doing the best he can-"
"Well he needs to do better."
"Sofie, are you not seeing what I'm seeing? I'm worried about him, about his mental health."
"He needs to focus more. To get his head in the game and stop focusing on all of these silly things-"
"Baby, he's only a teenager, yeah dances and girlfriends are silly, but they're important."
"Not as important as Nationals, or getting a scholarship to a good university."
"He's going to do great in Nationals, he's going to get a good scholarship, just let him be a kid too-"
"He is destined for greatness y/n, can't you see that?! He needs to stick to his schedule. He needs to train harder, to focus more, to do better!"
"Sof-"
"We are done with this conversation." She says as she stands up and walks away.
"Sofia!" She keeps walking away and you lay back down on the couch in defeat. You realize that she still has your book. "Can I at least get my book back?"
You hear a "SMACK" on the ground, and look towards the stairs. Sofia definitely tossed it from the second floor.
"Thank you!" You say with a bit of sarcasm as you get up and pick it up off of the floor.
A few minutes later she comes downstairs in her running gear.
"Where are you going?"
"Where does it look like I'm going?" She says, still clearly annoyed from your conversation earlier.
"Huh, I thought garbage was being picked up tomorrow." You say nonchalantly with a bit of a chuckle.
"You know what? I am so tired of your-"
"Woah, Sofia, I was joking!"
"Well that wasn't very funny."
You could tell that you hurt her a little and you immediately feel bad. Getting up off of the couch you walk up to her and cup her face with your hand.
"I'm sorry, I took it too far. I didn't mean to hurt you." You say, looking into her beautiful green eyes.
She stares into your eyes, you can tell she's definitely still not happy, but you can tell there's something else bothering her.
"Baby, talk to me. What's going on?"
"Nothing, everything is fine."
"Come on, don't give me that. I can see it in your eyes, there's something going on. Talk to me."
Her eyes soften for a moment as she looks at you and you caress her cheek with your thumb. Just when you think she's about to open up to you, her walls are back up.
"I don't want to talk about it. Everything is fine." She pulls away from you and heads towards the door.
"I'm going for my run, I don't know how long I'll be."
You sigh in disappointment and watch her as she walks away.
"Okay, be safe. I love you."
"Love you too." She says as she walks out the door.
It hurts that she didn't turn around to say it to you, something she does when she's in a bad mood. Sofia is stubborn, probably the most stubborn person you've ever met. Trying to break down her walls is quite literally like trying to punch through concrete. Things weren't always like this between the two of you, in the beginning she let you in, let you see past her walls. That's one of the reasons why you fell in love with her so quickly, she was so open with you, so unafraid to bare her soul to you. Lately though she's been so closed off. She's been frustrated, angry, stressed. Her walls went right back up and they were stronger than ever this time. You know it's her own defense mechanism, she does it to protect herself and it has nothing to do with you. But it still hurts, it still makes you feel so isolated. Every time you've tried talking to her about it she put more walls up and it would turn into an argument. You did your best to keep it calm when Jackson was home, but when he was with Roz the two of you ended up in screaming matches a few times. You love her, so, so much, but it's painful. Watching her be so hard on Jackson, when he's clearly not okay, is painful. You don't know what more you can do.
The two of you don't speak much for the rest of the day. Sofia came home about an hour and a half later, showered, ate breakfast and went back up to the bedroom. You were in the living room, reading your book and watching tv for the rest of the day.
A few hours later Jackson walks in, one of his friends drove him home from practice.
"I'm home." He says, sounding absolutely wiped.
"Hey kid," you say, getting up from the couch. "how was it?"
"Fine." He says, shrugging his shoulders.
"Jackson, are you sure-"
"Jackson," Sofia says as she walks up to the two of you. "what were your times today?"
"Hi mum, yeah, training was great thanks. How was your day?" He says sarcastically.
"Very funny." She says, unamused and not really getting why he said it. "What were your times?"
He rolls his eyes and slides his backpack off of his shoulder. After unzipping it he pulls out a sheet of paper and hands it to Sofia.
"I beat my best time." He says with a little pride, pointing to the paper.
"That's amazing Jackson!" You say.
"It could be better." Sofia says at the same time.
The two of you make eye contact and you don't even notice your mouth is open. Your gazes flickers over to Jackson and the little pride he had was completely washed away.
"Sofia-"
"If he wants to do well at Nationals he needs to do better." She looks over at Jackson. "I think we should add an extra day of training."
"But mum, I already train five days a week-"
"Do you want to do well in Nationals? Do you want to get a good scholarship to a good university? You need to do better, push yourself more, you need to focus Jackson!"
"Sofia, don't you think that's a little much?" You ask with concern in your voice.
"No. This is what he needs to do." She says, her eyes narrowing at you.
You can practically see the light from Jacksons eyes go out, all you see is the shell of a completely defeated kid. Your heart breaks for him. As he turns to head towards his room, you put your hand on his shoulder and say softly "I'm proud of you." Jackson nods his head and goes into his bedroom and closes his door.
Looking up you see anger of Sofia's face. A fight is coming, you know it. Right as she opens her mouth you cut her off.
"Lets go upstairs, okay?"
You walk past her and head up the stairs. Cutting her off definitely pissed her off more but you don't care, you don't want to argue with her outside of his bedroom door.
"How dare you undermine me in front of my son!" She practically yells when you get upstaris.
"I didn't undermine you Sofia!"
"Yes, you did. You don't know what's best for him, I know what he needs to do to be great, you don't!"
"Sofia he is great! He beat his best time, that's an amazing accomplishment and you acted like it meant nothing!"
"It means nothing if he doesn't pour everything he has into his passion!"
Something in you snapped, this wasn't his passion anymore, one look at him and you could tell. This was Sofia's passion, she got injured in college and couldn't compete anymore and is using Jackson to fulfill her dreams. Was this his passion once? You're sure it was, but not anymore. You're so afraid that she's going to push him too hard and push him away forever.
"You mean your passion! This is your passion Sofia, not his!"
"How dare you-"
"Sofia look at him! Look at your son! He's miserable! And you're not doing anything but making it harder for him! Please, just ease up on him, just a little, he-"
"You don't know what my son needs!"
Tears begin welling up in your eyes, she's never thrown that in your face before. Of course you knew you weren't his mum, he had two wonderful mums, but you did feel responsible for him. He was like a son to you, hearing her say that broke your heart a little.
"Sofia please, just look at him, take your eyes off of Nationals and scholarships for one second and look at your son!"
"You never take your eyes off of the goals!" She yells.
"Look at him!" You practically scream. "Sofia look at him! You're killing him! He needs a break, he needs some time off, please."
"He is my son! Not yours! You don't know what he needs so stop acting like you're his parent! You're not his parent! You are nothing to him!" She screams.
You can practically feel your heart shatter in your chest. She's never acted like this before, never said such horribly hurtful things. You stand there in silence trying to hold back your tears but fail. With one hand over your heart, you other one covers your mouth as tears pour down your face.
"She is not nothing to me."
Sofia turns around and you look up to see Jackson standing in the doorway.
"Jackson-"
"No mum, I don't want to hear it. She is right, everything y/n said was right. If you weren't so selfish, so focused on what you want, you would see that I am miserable. Y/n has been more of a parent to me than you have. She's the only one out of the two of you that actually cares about me, about how I'm doing. Not about my times, how well my training has been going, how many meets I win, she cares about me. All you care about is how well I do."
Even though Sofia's back is turned towards you, you can tell hearing Jacksons words broke her.
"I am doing this for you!" She yells.
"No you're not! You keep telling yourself that but you're not! You're doing this for you! You stopped caring about what I wanted a long time ago. She's been more of a mum to me than you've been!"
Sofia opens her mouth to speak again but quickly closes it. She turns and looks at you, her face painted with anger, hurt, even maybe betrayal. Turning back around, she pushes past Jackson and heads downstairs. You follow her with Jackson behind you and you watch as Sofia grabs her purse and her keys.
"Sofia!" You call after her. She slams the door and gets into her car. Running after her, you open the door and call out to her again. "Sofia!" But she peels out of the driveway and drives away.
After you close the door you lean back against it and the tears come flooding. Covering your face, you slide down the door and sit on the floor, doing your best but failing, to hold back your sobs.
Jackson sits next to you and isn't quite sure what to do. He reaches out to touch you a few times but pulls his hand back. Instead, he settles on leaning his head against your shoulder. You turn towards him and wrap your arms around him, resting your cheek on top of his head.
"I'm so sorry you had to see that Jackson." You say through tears. "I'm so sorry about all of it. I've tried talking to her so many times but she's too stubborn for her own good. She can't see past her goal, she can't see what it's doing to you."
"Thank you for always being on my side. Even when we first met, you were on my side and I didn't even like you." He says and you both laugh as you wipe away your tears. "What mum said wasn't true. You mean a lot to me, I haven't told either of my mums this yet, but when I talk about you with my friends, I call you my bonus mum. You mean that much to me."
You hold Jackson tighter and cry a little more. The two of you sit there for a little while holding each other. Eventually, the both of you stand up and Jackson goes into his room and you go into yours and take a shower. After your shower you put your pajamas on and lay in bed. No book, no tv, no phone, you just lay on your side replaying everything that happened in your head as a few tears fall from your eyes.
A little more than an hour after Sofia stormed out, you hear the door open and close. You hear her toss her keys in the bowl and you hear her footsteps coming up the stairs.
She walks into the bedroom and you look up. She looks like shit, her mascara is under her eyes, her eyes are bloodshot, red and puffy. The two of you look at each other for a moment. It's annoying how beautiful she looks, even when she's been crying. Her green eyes look brighter against the red in her eyes, her lips still look so soft and kissable, even when she's pouting. You love her, but fuck what she said hurt.
"I don't really know what to say." She says, breaking the silence. You look down at your pillow as a few more tears escape and you try to wipe them away. "I am so sorry." Looking back up, you see that her eyes are squeezed shut and her knuckles are practically white from holding her hands so tightly. "You were right, about everything, and I didn't listen." She opens her eyes and tears run down her cheeks.
Sofia takes a few steps into the room until she's standing at the edge of the bed. You sit up and stare at her.
"Sofia-"
"Please," she says, cutting you off. "Please let me finish." You nod your head and she takes a deep breath in and exhales. "You've been trying to tell me, for months, about your concerns about Jackson and all I was able to see was an athlete, someone who could excel, who could win Nationals, get the best scholarship to the best university. I didn't see my son. I didn't see his pain, his exhaustion, how he tried so hard to make me proud but I never showed him that it was enough. You did, you saw him hurting and you tried to tell me, you tried to be there for him and I stopped you every chance I got. You were right, about everything and I am so sorry. I know what you're going to say, and yes, I will have this conversation with him as well. But I need to tell you how wrong I was to say those things I said. You mean so much to him, you were a far better mum to him these last few months than I've been. I am so sorry, I was so blinded, you tried to tell me and I just couldn't see it, I wouldn't. I realized how hard I've been on the both of you, I've been so distant, angry, stressed. I treated the two people I love more than anything in the world like absolute shit and I am so, so sorry my love." Sofia breaks down and starts crying, she presses the heels of her hands into her eyes to stop the tears and breaks down. "I was so awful to you, and all you did was try to watch out for my son the way I was supposed to. I treated you like shit and you still loved me through it all and I can't understand why."
As the tears run down your cheeks, you can't bear to see her like this. Yes of course you were hurt, but her apology meant a lot and all you wanted to do was hold her. Sitting up more, you walked on your knees across the bed and wrapped your arms around Sofia. She cried into you and you cried into her. Her hands left her face and she wrapped her arms around your waist, one of your hands cradled the back of her head and the other rested in between her shoulder blades.
"I love you, so much y/n. I was so awful to you and I regret it so much. I promise I'll do whatever it takes to make it up to you, but please, please don't leave me." Sofia completely breaks down in you arms and she sits on the edge of the bed.
The two of you hold each other and cry for a little while. No words are spoken, the air only filled with the sound of you both crying as you hold each other tightly.
Sofia is the one who pulls away first. The hand you had cradling the back of her head slides to cup her cheek and you wipe away her tears with your thumb.
"Baby," you say softly, "you hurt me, a lot. Over the last few months and tonight, especially tonight. I'm not going to pretend that I was okay or wasn't shattered by what you said, because I wasn't okay, I felt completely broken." Tears fall down Sofia's cheeks faster and you wipe them away. "But I know that isn't who you are. I know you've been stressed and overwhelmed, it doesn't excuse it, but I know the woman I love is still in there, and she's worth sticking around for. I love you, so much. I'm not going anywhere, I promise."
Sofia holds you tight and cries into you again. When she pulls away she looks deeply into your eyes.
"I love you, y/n, more than I've ever loved anyone. I am going to do anything and everything it takes to make it up to you, I promise, I'm going to make it right."
"I know you will baby, but before you make it right with me, you have to make it right with Jackson. He's been hurting much more than I have and for much longer, go talk to him."
Sofia nods and you pull her in, your lips softly colliding with hers for a gentle, passionate kiss. When you pull away you wipe a few more of her tears away and she nods at you and goes to talk to Jackson.
After their conversation, Sofia comes back into the bedroom and lays down next to you. She wraps her arms around you and pulls you close, resting her head in the crook of your neck.
"How did it go?"
"Better than I expected. I expected him to tell me to piss off. But he didn't. He listened, he told me how he's been feeling, how you've been trying to check in with him, making sure he was okay the entire time. He told me how much I hurt him, how he so badly wanted to make me proud but nothing he did seemed to be enough for me. Fuck I felt like such a failure as a mum, but he forgave me. He told me he understood why I was doing what I was doing, I genuinely thought he still loved it. I did, and since he wasn't biologically mine, to have something we both loved, the fact that he shared my passion, it brought us so close together. But I took it too far, I need to let him figure out who he is."
"I'm proud of you baby." You say, kissing her hair.
Sofia looks up at you with wonder in her eyes.
"How do you not possibly hate me after everything I've done?"
"Because I know you, the real you that you keep buried inside." You say, poking at her chest. "And that woman is amazing, flawed like the rest of us, but she's an incredible mum, and an incredible partner. You got lost there for a minute babe, but I knew you were going to see the light. I'm still hurt, but I also still love you so much."
"I don't know what I ever did to deserve you." Sofia says, pulling back a little to look into your eyes. She tucks a strand of hair behind your ear and caresses your cheek. "I love you."
Sofia pulls you in for a kiss, it's soft and gentle, but filled with so much love and passion.
Of course you were deeply hurt by what she said, but you know deep down, that isn't who she is and you know that she's going to do everything she possibly can to make it up to both you and Jackson.
That night the two of you fall asleep in each others arms. Both of you were exhausted from the days events but at the end of the day you know how much she loves you, and that you also love her so much. It may take some time to repair the damage, but you know your relationship will be stronger than ever when it's all fixed.
