Gen IV, Complete!

Yes, it's true! We've trekked our way through snowy Sinnoh's glorious mountains and come out with a consensus on the most smashable of Gen IV's Pokemon!

As such, it is time to look at this generations...

Sultans of Smash!

(Which is just a fancy way of saying they got more “Smash” than “Pass” votes)

So lets get right to it and have ourselves a look at this Gen's selections! Our Smashables are (under the Read More because oh man this gonna take a while, though admittedly Gen IV has slimmer pickings than some other generations...):

1. Staring us off is... a water starter? Yes, it seems we've finally only got one starter who could make it to a majority Smash in the form of Empoleon! But at 62.5% Smashable, they've certainly made it by a fair margin. Guess this penguin made like their namesake and conquered! (In this case, conquered the polls) Also, fun fact, 5ft7 was pretty close to the historical Napoleon's height! And no, that wasn't short for the time. If you're wondering where the stereotype of him being short comes from, the answer is British Political Cartoons.

2. This next entry is a familiar sight to many, I'm sure. After all, who didn't see Shinx and think "Oh sweet, Electric Type cat!" and evolve it into one of the world's most kickass lions? Not many of y'all I suspect, because Luxray, said kickass lion, has graced this list with a fine 66.7% Smash rating! They say a Luxray's eyes can see through anything, and apparently that includes seeing through the complexities of people so they can charm their way into the hearts of many.

3. You may remember a certain rose themed Pokemon making their way onto the list back in Gen III, so I'm sure many of you will be pleased to hear that their evolution, Roserade, has made it in! At a 69.1% Smash rating, it seems there's no masking the love many feel for this rose.

4. Many of us here on the tumblr claim to be Anti-Monarchist, but it seems there's one queen many have made an exception for. That's right, that most royal of queen bees, Vespiquen! Winning a solid 57.5% Smash rating, seems this queen rules more than just her beehive.

5. I have to admit, I'm pleasantly surprised by this next one. Floatzel, everyone's favorite water weasel/otter hybrid, has made like an Aqua Jet and quickly propelled themself to a 59.2% smash rating!

6. There's no two ways about it, I think we all saw this one coming as much as we did Gardevoir's. They've been an internet favorite since Diamond and Pearl were first released, so it's only natural Lopunny would make the Sultans of Smash! Her Standard Form, at an impressive 77.5% Smash rating, is a classic in the world of Pokemon Smashing. But special mention has to go to her Mega Evolution! While yes, Mega Lopunny technically got a smaller rating than Standard (61.8%), it must be said that this is 61.8% of more than 3,000 votes (3,366 to be precise)! Thanks to the reblog of tumblr user tamamita (who I don't @ because I'm not sure he wants to be bothered), we have so much data on the smashability of Mega Lopunny! But most importantly, we have confirmed that many who see this lapine angel agree that it is time to le.

7. How do you feel about... magic? I must assume many of y'all like it, since next on the list is Mismagius, at a 70.6% Smash rating! Seems this mage makes more than one kind of magic.

8. This next one has made quite the impression! Maybe it's the fact that they're one of the few pseudo-legendaries in the series to be catchable at a reasonable point in their game if you know where to look. Maybe it's the fact that beloved Sinnoh champion Cynthia kicked so many of y'alls asses with them. Or maybe it's just because you have eyes and good taste. Whatever the reason, Garchomp has made their way into the Sultans of Smash, smooth as (memes about) sharks skin with a 69.7% Smash rating in standard form and a 54.5% rating as Mega Garchomp! Yes, smooth as sharks skin. Everyone knows sharks are smooth! :)

9. Ok, smoothsharking aside, this next one was also someone we, shall we say, had reserved parking for. Everyone's favorite Jackal Fighter Pokemon, Lucario! With an excellent 77.6% rating in Standard Form and a 75.6% rating as Mega Lucario, there's little for me to add about this legend of Pokemon Smashing. All I'll say is welcome to the club, brother!

10. I know a secret: many of y'all are weak to a cocky smirk. Oh, think I'm wrong? Well, I think Weavile and their 58.4% Smash rating would beg to differ! But should be we so surprised? Weavile are some of the best thieves in the Pokemon world, only natural they steal hearts as well!

11. I have one word for all y'all: Tentacles! Well, no, I also have one statement to make as well: Damn, Tangrowth's poll was a lot closer than I expected! Considering how previous tentacle having Pokemon went, I expected way greater than a 50.4% rating! Still, they're on the list and that's what counts.

12. Another even numbered generation, another batch of Eeveelutions! And first of the two, we have Leafeon at a 55.2% Smash rating! I'm gonna be honest, I don't think this is what they meant by eating salad, but who am I to judge?

13. And of course, right behind Leafeon is Glaceon! Well, I say behind but really, having also been voted 55.2% Smashable, I think it's more like "Right beside". At any rate, I suppose I should also just say I hope Glaceon has enough body heat to prevent a, shall we say, tongue on a frozen flagpoll moment!

14. There is a certain charm to the art of the sword. Whether it's the more elegant and graceful fencing, or the brutal crushing blows of wielding a zweihander, there's something for everyone. And so, some of that charm comes to the Ralts family with the sword-armed Gallade! Unsheathing a powerful 62.4% Smash rating in Standard Form and an improved 64.2% rating as Mega Gallade, this Pokemon also clearly knows the art of seduction...!

15. On the surface, one of the creepier ghosts pokemon has come up with! But deeper down, simply a psychopomp who simply guides lost spirits home! And even further into the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, A Capital-B Bastard that fans none-the-less can't help but love! Regardless of how you see them, Dusknoir is on the list with a 53.6% Smash rating! Maybe my call to the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon fans worked...

16. Elegant. Beautiful. Inspired by one of the more dangerous youkai in Japanese folklore. This and much more perfectly describes the next member of the Sultans of Smash, Froslass! With a cool 67.9% Smash rating, seems some of y'all are solid for a reason that doesn't involve being frozen.

17. When it comes to time, it just always feels like there's never enough. Never enough, unless you're Dialga, the next name on our list! Clocking in at a brilliant 62.2% rating in its Standard Form and at 51.6% in Origin Form, It seems many of you always have time for Dialga.

18: Are you someone who feels like you never have enough space in your life? Well then maybe you need a little more Palkia in your life! Shining brightly with a 61.6% Smash rating in Standard form and a 53.3% rating in Origin Form, it is apparent that there is always space in your hearts for Palkia.

19: Can't you feel it? The love creeping through your veins-the eldritch presence warming your heart? If the answer is yes, then you may be one of the many, many people who voted for Giratina! Altered Forme alone would have been a major player in the Sultans at an impressive 72.1% Smash rating. But that pales in comparison to Origin Forme's overwhelming 80.2% Smash rating! Puting Giratina in place as only the third Pokemon to have a form match or exceed 80% smash! Very impressive.

20: The moon. Since before history was even written, there have been many qualities associated with our celestial sibling and figures associated with it, and one of those traits has been "Very Attractive", especially where the crescent moon is involved. And according to 54.8% of the votes, Cresselia has definitely inherited that trait! Plus, who wouldn't want to sleep with a bringer of good dreams?

21: But crescent is not the only phase of the moon. Every once in a while, the moon obscures itself, cloaked in the shadows of the new moon phase. And emerging from that shadow is Darkrai and their 71.9% Smash rating! Seems many of y'all are gonna be having a different kind of nightmare... Related, do you think Darkrai would count more as an incubus or a succubus?

22. Last but certainly not least, we have The Alpha of Alphas. The Creator. The Thousand Arms That Built The World. The Pokegod themself, Arceus! With a 74.6% Smash rating and the highest BST of any untransformed Pokemon, Arceus has created a space for themselves in the Sultans of Smash. And yes, we have a reliable source of art for Arceus's other types, polls for them will follow... uh... eventually?

And with that, we have brought the Gen IV Who's Who of Smashing to a close and raised ourselves to a total of 88 Sultans of Smash! Stay tuned, we'll be making more polls sooner than you think!

Finished up the Teal Mask DLC yesterday, decided to draw up a post of all my shinies so far! All of them except Toasty are under the cut, she's the most specialist baby.

All the full evolved ones here, including my beloved Ralts family line!!! Got some NFE mons I'll get around to evolving, but until then they're Shinx, Goomy, and Toedscool!

A question of Pokemon AU (especially about Pokemon Mystery Dungeon).

If The Chain (extended) were sent to that world, which pokemon would they become (or probably the normal AU, which canon pokemon they would become)

Well there's three answers I could give, here

Answer One: they all get Riolu, every single one of them. In my defense, they all match Riolu. (However, I'm well aware that if I give this as my only answer then no less than three different people will send in an Ask specifically worded to make me answer differently, and in more detail)

Answer Two: take their Curse Forms and translate that into the closest Pokemon match, albeit still following the rules of being a First-Stage Evolution. For example, Gen would probably be a Pidgey. However, this doesn't fit with the canon choices for the Mystery Dungeon Playable Characters, so I'll move on. (And yes, I'm well aware that somebody is also going to send me an Ask specifically worded to make me go into more detail about this too, I'm genre-savvy I know how this goes)

Answer Three: the one that I imagine you'd prefer, which is me going through the entire roster of every playable character ever for the Mystery Dungeon franchise and assigning one for each Link.

I am... not going to pay attention to the personality types for this, because it doesn't always match up in my opinion, and also that is literal hours of research for a question that's really just meant to be fun!

To protect the world from devastation: A Pokemon fanfic

Theres still a few more episodes left of ash's adventure, so most likely team rocket is gonna get back together again. However, there is a decent chance that, because they're the 'villains' they'll be used to illustrate mottos like bad teamwork, despite all their previous fights never lasting. So, just in case, I've written a little fic on what I think happened after the spat. Its currently written from Meowths perspective, but if people like this, I might have motivation to make the other two. Enjoy!

Meowth trudged across the plain, not looking back. "Good riddance." He mumbled to himself. Those two only got in his way anyhow, after all. He'd capture Pikachu himself from those twerps, and finally get the recognition he deserved. He had a plan, too-a better one. He just needed a disguise, and-... Meowth paused, stopping in his tracks. He couldn't get disguises anymore, could he? James had always handled that. And he was good at it, too. Like, scarily good. His costuming skills were even good enough to fool the twerps-Ash, a voice in the back of his mind mumbled, his name is Ash-after years and years. No matter. He'd manage without. He was the one who built their mechas, after all, and those were the main punch behind the operation. All he needed was a bit of money to get started... Another pause, and Meowth snarled. He couldn't get money anymore either, could he? Jesse had always been the best at that-sure, she had a alot of expensive habits, but she was the most determined of the group, keeping them on their feet financially. And emotionally, too, now that he thought about it-this wasn't the first time they felt like giving up. Jesse had always been there with her endless drive to succeed, and no matter the spats they had, she had always brought them with her to stand right alongside her in victory, even if it came sparingly. He and James always felt depressed after another failed attempt to catch that little yellow rat, but she just tried twice as hard. Before he could stop himself, Meowth's mind went back to Unova, when he had traveled with the twerps for a while. It had been one of their better plans, one that played to Ash's trusting nature. It had worked, too, for the most part-he'd gained their trust fully, and it had largely been bad luck that stopped them. The hardest part, though, had been feeling so alone despite being surrounded by company. Sure, the twerps were actually decent conversation, but there had aways been lingering guilt in the back of his mind(It was hard to pretend they were such brats when they were so nice to him. It wasn't like when they were working towards a common goal, and he didn't have to fake it. He had almost been relieved when he had been able to pull off the mask again.) But even more than that, he had missed Jessie and James. When they were focused, the three of them worked like a well-oiled machine, no matter what they did. Something usually went wrong, but when push came to shove, their teamwork was honestly pretty good.

Meowth shook his head. That wasn't the point! They held him back from catching Pikachu and finally getting the affection he deserved from the Boss! ....Didn't they?

Jessie and James weren't affectionate, exactly, not in the same way Boss had been. Sure, James was affectionate to his Pokemon, but Meowth was his friend, while his pokemon were more like children. They bickered, but they also respected each other. And Jessie was quick to berate, but she was also always willing to listen to and incorporate everyones ideas in their plans. Meowth froze in his tracks as a painful realization entered his mind. "Aw Shinx. I miss em, don't I?"

How was he going to manage without them? He'd considered settling down somewhere before, sure-they all had. But he had never imagined it happening like this, where he could never see them again. Jessie and James were all he really had in the world. And now...

Meowth could feel his eyes start to water. What was he supposed to do? He didn't have anyone now-not the boss, not his team, not anyone. There was no one left who cared about him.

"Meowth!" A familiar voice cut through the air, loud and prideful, but there was a hint of fear in it that he hadn't heard often in Jessie's voice. She was nearby on a hill, calling out. "Meowth! James! Where are you? I'm-..I'm sorry, alright? I messed up too. Just-please, come back!"

Meowth walked towards her slowly. A part of him wanted to run, but he was still apprehensive. Once they were a few feet away from each other, he spoke, in a voice scarcely louder then a whisper, "..Hey."

Jessie sharply turned. He could see she'd been crying too-her makeup was smudged, even though she claimed to never wear it. Jessie cared too much about her appearance to NOT wear makeup, along with the ludicrous amounts of gel she needed to keep her hair like that.

"...Hello, Meowth." Jessie's voice was as soft as his. Neither of them really knew what to say. A part of him wanted to apologize, another part of him was still angry. Then a low, panicking tone broke the silence. "There you guys are!"

Both of them turned to see James. Meowth had been expecting him to be blubbing harder than either of them, but his face was dry. Next to him were him and Jessie's Pokemon.

Jessie shot up. "What are you doing with my Pokemon, you-" She cut herself off, looking down. "...I'm sorry. Me jumping to accusations is how we got here in the first place, isn't it?"

Meowth chuckled sheepishly. "Hey, s'not like I didn't do the same." James smirked. "Yes, I admit I got more than a little carried away. However, I remembered we left our Pokemon there, so I decided I should at least return Jessies incase she didn't realize. I'm...rather ashamed to know that I forgot mine."

Meowth rolled his eyes. "Don't beat yerself up, James, ya remembered them in the end, didn't you?"

James shook his head. "That doesn't matter. They are precious to me-we have a bond forged through overcoming obstacles as a team. I shouldn't have discarded that."

"Not very subtle, are you?" Jessie said in a half-mocking half-affectionate tone.

It was James's turn to chuckle. It turned to laughter, and the laughter turned to tears. "Oh...I missed you guys!" He opened his arms wide, and Meowth, shrugging, jumped in for a hug. They both looked at Jessie, who was standing to the side. Jessie shook her head. "Oh no, I don't need three sets of peoples tears on me."

Meowth gave her his best big adorable eyes, and Jessie sighed. "Oh, fine!" And she walked in for the hug, but they could both see she was smiling. Their Pokemon joined in on the hug, and it was getting really cramped, but Meowth didn't really care. It had been a long time since he'd felt so cared about.

Professor Layton characters and their Pokemon Teams

Some spoilers ahead. Also it's kinda long, so that's why I put it under a cut

Hershel Layton - I gave him a Pikachu because main character moment (and Detective Pikachu), Persian and Eevee because I feel like they match his color palette and I think he'd like them, Lycanroc because archeology boy, Decidueye to parallel Des a bit, and Polteageist because... yes

Luke Triton - Shinx, Quaxley, and Piplup were all chosen for their colors and cuteness (and Quaxley also because of Luke's duck hair), Clefairy just because I think he'd really like it, Audino because I vaguely remember Audino being a super caring and helpful Pokemon, and Rockruff to parallel Hershel and his Lycanroc

Flora Reinhold - She has a lot of fairy and grass types because those seem like her types. They were all chosen based on vibes alone tbh... I can definitely see her having a very strong team

Emmy Altava - Emmy only has two Pokemon, but they are very strong. She can easily defeat anyone in her path with her trusted Mienshao and Lucario

Randall Ascot - Randall originally had a beast of a duo. He got his Perrserker and Garchomp from his father and quickly bonds with them. At some point, he meats and catches a Rotom who follows him everywhere, and after the incident at Akbadain, a Yamask takes its place. As the Masked Gentleman, he only has the Yamask because Henry took care of the other three, but he does give them back afterwards

Desmond Sycamore/Jean Descole - Yamask to parallel Randall, Aegeslash because sword, and Lycanrock and Mightyena because wolves. That's it

Anton Herzen - He has a mainly ghost type team (with the exception of Umbreon). I chose the team mostly based on aesthetic, although Doublade came from his fight with Hershel

Leon Bronev - Leon has only two Pokemon to parallel Emmy, and their both lions because of his name. Like Emmy, he has a small but powerful team

Sammy Thunder - Electric types, funny bat, and loud boy. Yet again, his team is based solely on vibes

Beside it was three small masks: an Eevee and Shinx festival mask, a Zoroark-style mask that would actually fit someone's face, and a bare mask to make Gabe's own should he desire.]

Holy shit? Holy shit!! I've never actually SEEN an apricorn ball and here you are handing me the means to make them this is INSANE?????

These festival masks are so cute!! And so well painted!! And the Zoroark mask is GORGEOUS I am LOSING IT!!!! I AM GOING TO TREASURE THESE SO MUCH

September 2023 Shiny Pokemon Log

I got back into shiny hunting this month. I have caught 9 shinies this month and 1 more at the end of last month. That's a new record for me :)

I got mostly bug types which was unplanned lol.

I only played Legends Arceus (LA) and Violet this month. I'm going to go over it all in order found. Open if you want to read more!

First, I'm going to answer the question

Which Pokemon Should I Use?

In LA, I just chuck pokeballs at the little guys until they are caught, so there is no strategy there LOL.

My trusty partner for Violet has been Breloom. Named after Sister Minnie, the internet cat that will unsubscribe you. Breloom will destroy all of your pokemon. With false swipe and spore, she can easily get anything to its highest catch rate. Max EVs in HP and Attack (+ 6 in Speed) allow her to be bulky and much more powerful than most wild pokemon. She is holding a poison orb to activated her ability poison heal. The constant healing keeps her alive almost indefinitely with no effort on my part. She is the only pokemon in my party 90% of the time.

Also I love Breloom in general. Look at that hat! So cute!

Gallade 8/27/23

I was stuck at home and sick in august so I started casually looking for shinies in LA to have something to do. I didn't have a target for this and I wandered around all the maps aimlessly. After a while I Ended up in Alabaster Icelands during a Massive Mass Outbreak. This guy spawned after a Kirlia outbreak ended. Despite not being the full 1/4096 odds, It was my first hunted shiny in this game so I like Moose a lot!

At that point, I had not done any research on how to shiny hunt full odds in this game. Now that I know more about the game, I think that on my save file it is impossible to get full odds on every pokemon at this point. I don't think that I will start a new save to make it full odds huntable, just because it sounds like too much of a hassle for such a casual game. Applin 9/10/23

So A few days before this, I started a hunt for Rellor. I then had the idea from a youtube short to catch a shiny applin before the Teal Mask DLC launched so I can immediately have a shiny Dipplin. I dropped everything to go to Tagtree Thicket. I made a sandwich with level 2 Dragon encounter and would just reset after 30 minutes when the sandwich ran out. After a day, I found Candy! When the DLC dropped, the first thing I did was find the Syrupy Apple item and evolved her. I was so happy with this Dipplin shiny, so worth it!

Buneary & Kricketot 9/11/23

After doing some research on hunting in LA, I went back to play before the Teal Mask DLC released. I wanted to catch an alpha shiny of some kind.

After only a few laps around the Obsidian Fieldlands, I see Buneary. satisfied with finding a shiny so fast, I finished up my lap around the map and get Kricketot too! I was amazed that I got 2 in a single run. I still wanted a shiny alpha, so that concluded phases 1 and 2.

Combee & Shinx 9/11/23

After wandering around all day, I figured out that I wanted to target Alpha Heracross. I stopped searching the entire map and only ran over to the Heracross and then would leave the map to respawn the pokemon. I only realized I should do this near the end of my third phase, where after 2 trips, I get a female shiny Combee!! So cool! 2 trips after that find, I get Shinx as the first pokemon seen on that trip! It was an exciting 20 minutes lol

Munchlax 9/14/23

Yes, this is the gift Munchlax from beating the hard mode of Ogre Oustin. Yes, I am counting it to show off I beat the hard mode of Ogre Outing. It was so annoying until I learned that there are people online that also wanted to play LOL. Then it was pretty easy to win, I think it was my second or third match. I do not like that minigame, but I guess I need to play it more if I want the mochis.

Heracross 9/17/23

After getting the Kitakami national dex to get the tera shard charm, I was bored with the DLC, which sucked because I wanted it to be interesting. While looking for something to do, I saw a Heracross outbreak on the edge of the town in Kitakami. I knew that would be a super fast hunt and jumped at it. And it was! It was full odds too, so I didn't KO any pokemon in the outbreak, I just entered and exited the town to despawn and respawn the pokemon. While I still don't have an alpha shiny Heracross, Pepto Bismal here is pretty cool too.

Spidops 9/23/23

Paintball was completely random lol. I realized that despite having done everything else in the main game, I forgot about the sealed pokemon. While running around the map pullling stakes, I spotted this guy and was like, "That's a weird Spidops...OH!" It's pretty interesting looking so I can't complain lol.

Rellor 9/24/23

After starting and forgetting about this hunt, I returned to the desert and found shiny Rellor. I also learned that I'm terrible at making sandwiches. Trying to make a bug Encounter Level 3 sandwich is the worst! The cherry tomatoes are not your friend!

The ingredients are:

6 cherry tomato

3 Potato Salad

3 Curry Powder

1 Bitter Herba Mystica

This makes a sandwich with bug encounter level 3, Title power Bug Level 3, Item Drop Steel Level 3.

To test out sandwiches, I used this simulator!

I started off by using level 2 encounter sandwiches, but then changed my mind. It took an hour to get the level 3 sandwich right. I was about to give up and stick to the level 2 sandwiches until my partner said they wanted to try making the sandwich. They made it 2nd try! I was so jealous lol. Then I found the Rellor 5 minutes into the sandwich so that was lucky. I looked for Larvesta until the sandwich was over, but didn't get any other shinies, booo.

Conclusion

This was a good shiny month for me! It was really fun hunting in Violet, despite the horrible lag. The lag was almost unplayable at times and kinda made me sick at some points. That makes the game hard to play, but the fast phases make it worth it. I think I will start a hunt in the older games next month. I am going to buy a charger for my DS Lite so I might start a dream team quest in Emerald or Black 2. We will see! I still need to get alpha Heracross too. Rumble Weekend is next week, so I will post about that when It happens! I have never participated in that before so it should be fun!

Thanks for reading! I don't think anyone will ever see this post, but I wanted to start making blog posts like a diary for my games and other media like books. I want to treat the media I interact with as more than something I'll forget about in 2 weeks. I feel like I'm stuck in a cycle of sleep, work, eat, repeat. Was thinking about the difference between Dawn and Akari last night for Jumping the Rails and enjoying considering how their lives differ. Since I need a distraction I’m gonna expand a lil more here.

Considering i think a handful of people followed me from Lifetime Guarantee to my tumblr page I think it’s fairly safe to post here. mild spoilers for behavior differences below the read more.

(there’s a lot here, sorry- many thoughts, head super full)

age

Both Dawn and Akari are 16, though Akari is months older than Dawn. When it comes to Jumping the Rails, Akari is just a couple months from her 17th birthday and Dawn is more like a few months after her 16th.

behavior

When it comes to behavior Dawn is extremely outgoing. She’s not afraid to chase after what she wants or what she thinks is right which can lead to her making mistakes because she jumped to conclusions. She’s brave, brash, and bold- things may scare her but she’s going to try and swallow that fear and do it anyway. She somewhat lacks a filter and is a little brutally honest when she can get away with it. Not that she doesn’t know how to keep secrets, because she does (and what her mother doesn’t know won’t hurt her...!), but she much prefers to cut straight to the point. She hates beating around a bush. Dawn isn’t afraid to complain that something is too difficult for her- but even while she does, she’s going to keep hacking at it even if it’s making things worse.

When she’s confused about something or uncertain she will keep a bit more quiet about it until she’s certain of the path she wants to take. It doesn’t normally require more than a couple hours of thought- she is sixteen and impatient. When she’s well and truly stumped about how to proceed - IE, realizing that Ingo has no memories of before - she takes a lot more time to consider what the best method of pushing forward is.

She’s a lot like the proverbial bull in the china shop- she will charge right on through and deal with the repercussions later. Repercussions that, in the past, didn’t typically fall to her because of her age. Unfortunately for Dawn, she’s now in Hisui where kids have jobs by the time they’re 15 and are treated much more like adults. She’s going to be hit with consequences if she’s not careful.

Compared to Dawn, Akari is reserved and almost timid about approaching others. When she first arrived in Hisui at 12 she was a little more outgoing and tried to be friendly, but once she realized her attempts would get her almost nowhere with the majority of the village she stopped reaching out. She’s still friendly and willing to help, but she isn’t typically the one you’ll see introducing herself first. Along with that, because so much has been put on her shoulders and so much is constantly asked of her she’s rather quiet. She doesn’t complain about what is asked or expected of her, which is something Ingo has noticed and tried to get her to change. Unfortunately he is two years and change behind that mental decision.

Akari’s much more willing to accept limitations and work on advancing herself to get around them instead of just charging through them- she’s not a person who asks forgiveness instead of permission. In her youth she made a couple of poor decisions trying to be that way that ended up with the villagers seeing her as a potential danger to them, requiring Laventon to step in and say she was just young and trying to be helpful. She’s very aware of how her actions might be perceived and is constantly putting on a mask when she’s in Jubilife Village so that hopefully, one day, they’ll stop seeing her as the girl who came from the rift.

She’s very much aware, after living in Hisui for four years and change, that actions have consequences- even well-meaning ones. She’s seen the bodies of surveyors brought back after they tried returning a Shinx cub to its pride or tried to shield a prey pokemon from a predator’s attack. She’s had her own injuries from not paying enough attention to her surroundings and seen what happens when surveyors get distracted. Because of this she’s typically pretty aware and observant. However, when she’s hyper-aware of what goes on around her she does exhaust herself more quickly and requires more rest.

The only thing Akari ever chased after was Ingo’s affection. When she realized that someone might actually see her as more than just a time bomb from the rift she immediately latched onto him. Slowly at first, but then she began getting closer to him- when he didn’t treat her with wariness or like he was keeping her at least ten feet away with a thick pole, he quickly went to the top of her favorite people list. When Ingo left her in the Icelands due to Laventon’s acknowledgment of their familial behavior (which she didn’t know was the reason at the time) she thought it was her fault- with all the distrust from the villagers, she’s got much lower self-esteem than Dawn. Ingo has since done his best to correct that but he’s fighting an uphill battle.

nurture

We’re never told what happened to Dawn’s dad so I won’t extrapolate on that. However, from a very young age Dawn was raised by a single mother. Johanna taught Dawn from the very start that she should be proud of who she is and not let anyone divert her from her goals (though she SHOULD listen to her mother and please consider her own experiences and advice). Anything and everything that caught Dawn’s eye - from pokemon beauty competitions to battles - Johanna did her best to encourage her and sign her up for. When Dawn declared she wanted to do a pokemon journey at 12 Johanna agreed. She got all the forms filled out, helped Dawn fill out what she needed to, and sent her daughter off with all the supplies she could think to send and a kiss, telling her that if she ever needed a rest or a break she could come home.

Even on her pokemon journey, which is typically something that is taken alone, Dawn had support. Lucas, arguably a researcher and not a trainer, would frequently stop by to provide support when she was stumped and Barry, who assigned himself as her rival, was always pushing her cheerfully. Though she may or may not have realized it, both of them helped in taking care of her so she never really ran out of supplies or felt alone. Even when she was facing Team Galactic, chasing down grunts and going up against bosses, she always knew she could call on someone if she needed help. Maybe not the authorities due to regulations and rules they had to follow, but if she needed someone to get into and out of trouble with her she had Barry and Lucas and even a couple other trainers she made friends with on her journey.

She manage to challenge the elite four right before her 16th birthday, officially beating Cynthia at age 15. She was crediting with taking down Team Galactic as a 14 year old. Because of these incredible feats at a young age she has a bit of an ego, despite having been helped along the way. It’s not that she’s not grateful, it’s just that she put in the majority of the work- training her team and following trails immediately, so she kind of sees herself as... not infallible but certainly a step above almost everyone else. She tried a battle facility once and, when she realized she had to put in a bit more thought to her battles, decided she’d stick with the gyms challenge.

She’s a social butterfly who loves being the champion and the face of the Sinnoh region. She has a hard time being on her own and still lives with her mother, visiting Barry and Lucas frequently. She doesn’t mind the paparazzi and, honestly, kind of enjoys fucking with them. She’s a bit of a pompous little shit but she is a good kid. Despite her inflated sense of self-importance she has no issues getting on the level of a new trainer and helping them out, or stopping by schools and gyms semi-unexpectedly to hang out. Professor Rowan thinks she’s a little bit like Professor Oak’s grandson but doesn’t make the comparison out loud.

Akari, on the other hand, was dumped into Hisui completely unceremoniously and without anyone to guide her. She was dropped on the beach as a 12 year old, very nearly 13, but with no memories of her past. Because of Professor Laventon’s soft heart and awe at her ability to catch his pokemon he vouched for her and tried to take care of her upon her arrival, but he’s also an older man who is easily engrossed in his work and would frequently forget to check on her. This meant Akari was more or less raising herself in a village of people who saw her as something that might explode on them one day, especially once she started trying to help them out with pokemon- the same pokemon who had attacked their village before the guard stations and walls were put up.

Laventon and Rei were the most outwardly friendly for a long time. Cyllene never treated Akari differently than anyone else and Pesselle was often more curious if falling from the rift meant she was different from them some way internally- though she had no way to explore that curiosity. Despite this, none of them really... touched her. There was always an unintentional, instinctive flinch away from her touches- you know, just in case there really was a difference between them because of the fact she came from beyond the rift.

Between the distrust of the villagers and the lack of physical touch, Akari ended up focusing much more on her pokemon. They didn’t seem to care that she came from beyond the rift at all and never treated her differently than any other human (besides the bonds between them). Because she wanted to be able to focus on her pokemon Akari always did her best to keep her team low, waiting until C4 evolved into a Quilava before catching a Zubat- Swimp. She swapped out pokemon when she had to but preferred sticking with her team.

Apart from them, she did not receive the same support as Dawn and so never really relied on anyone until she met Ingo. He was the first person who sought her out and gave her aid, which kind of... freaked her out for a while. She was good with the touches - as she was incredibly touch-starved after almost three years of maybe a grasp on her shoulders or hands for just a moment - but the fact that he... offered her food? Showed her the safest places to walk around the Highlands? Pointed out pokemon behavior that she didn’t know??? Kind of... threw her for a loop. It took her a while to be able to depend on him and that trust was a little broken when he claimed emergency in the Highlands right before she went up against Lord Avalugg. The fact that he came to find her when she was banished quickly fixed it- especially when he refused to let them be separated again.

Due to the long-term lack of support, Akari has issues believing herself to be worthy of support and affection. Ingo has tried to change this but four years of believing yourself to be some sort of monster, with no other memory, is a hard thing to correct. Laventon and Rei, after her lack of disappearance with the rift, have treated her much more friendly and openly. They’ve taken notes from Ingo (some literal ones as well) and are much more physically affectionate with her. Pesselle will allow Akari to hold her hand when she does a checkup, and Cyllene even lets Akari hang off her back sometimes when she does rounds in Jubilife. The physical touch more than anything has done wonders for Akari’s self esteem and she no longer believes herself to be the monster she once thought she was- though the villagers of Jubilife still are hesitant to trust her.

Compared to Dawn, Akari is very much a homebody. She wouldn’t say she has social anxiety but large amounts of people do make her nervous. She doesn’t like the stares or whispers. Her preferred amount of people is a maximum of four others around her, with a high preference to just one or two. Ingo doesn’t really count as a ‘person’ of tolerance in her mind, he simply is her dad and therefore is safety- his company is always welcome and never tiresome. Part of the reason Akari no longer lives in Jubilife, though, and has gone to live with Ingo is due to the amount of people who have immigrated to it. The crowds are bigger than they were before and it’s no secret that she’s the one who fell from the rift and catches most of the pokemon, leading to plenty of people looking at her. She avoids Jubilife as much as she can- Kamado is just a small part of her unease around the place.

team

Dawn’s team is well-rounded because she didn’t want to be stuck in a niche like the typical gym leaders. She admired Cynthia’s team from a young age and sought to not be able to get taken down by one pokemon. Her team consists of the following:

Empoleon (water/steel) (starter) - brave nature - male Frosslass (ice/ghost) - lonely nature - female Garchomp (dragon/ground) (regular) - adamant nature - male Mr Mime (psychic/fairy) - bold nature - male Houndoom (fire/dark) - naughty nature - female Tropius (grass/flying) - impish nature - male

None of them have nicknames due to the fact that most people she knew never gave their pokemon nicknames- it’s a cultural thing. She is particularly attached to her Empoleon, as he was her starter and sometimes refers to him as “Number One”. She treats all of her team well, though compared to Akari’s team she’s... not as close to them. They’re still pokemon in her eyes, even if they are her partners.

Akari’s team is well-rounded more for the sake of her safety. If she kept a team of all fire-types she would have been well screwed in the Coastlands and Highlands. If she kept a team of primarily water-types, she would have just as many issues elsewhere. Though she doesn’t keep a full team, leaving her last two belt loops open for pokemon that need to discover humans are okay, her team is incredibly dedicated to her due to the amount of time they’ve spent together. Compared to most pokemon teams, even among the Diamond and Pearl Clans and their relationships with their pokemon, Akari and her team are remarkably like a sibling group. She is very much at ease with them and everything they do.

C4 - Typhlosion (fire/ghost) - careful nature Swimp - Crobat (flying/poison) - hasty nature Mint - Empoleon (water/steel) - relaxed nature Mama - Garchomp (dragon/ground) (alpha)- brave nature

All of Akari’s pokemon have names because... well, why wouldn’t they? For one, they’re her family and so they deserve names. Each of their names mean something- C4 was named for “when in doubt, C4″; Swimp was named so because he was a rather small Zubat and she meant to call him ‘Shrimp’ but... Swimp was cuter, just as her now-Crobat is; Mint has an affection for anything mint-flavored and is also an incredibly hardy pokemon, much like real mint is; Mama is the caregiver and oldest behaving member of the team. She was an alpha Gabite taking care of Gibles before Akari caught her and she sees the rest of the team as her new charges and family.

The bullies in question are sitting on a picnic like blanket, seemingly so they don't get sand on them. The Audino is reading a book, it seems to just be a school textbook while the Minun spins a GP in their hand while smoking a cigarette of some kind, rhythmically crunching a half full can of low quality beer. To the side of them they have a pile of shit, including their bags, some snacks, an Oran Berry, more GP and most importantly, the 'lion' plush and gemstone necklace that belong to Pumpkin.

Said Shinx, walks up and stands a meter away before grabbing their attention.

PUMPKIN: "Hey you two! I want my stuff back!"

TERRANCE: "Kicks. Kicks the. God damn it."

The Audino nudges the Minun who takes out wireless earbuds they had in their ears. Seeming very aggravated from being disturbed from their music.

KICKS: "What the fuck do you want cunt?"

TERRANCE: "Pump kid's here."

Kicks looks over to see Pumpkin standing there, with a very sour look on his face. The Shinx is trying to look intimidating but honestly just looks like a child who's been denied ice cream.

The Minun grits it's teeth together and bite down on their cig out of anger.

Despite being a complete lying bitch because he in fact did not hear Pumpkin approach whatsoever. He sits up and continues.

KICKS: "What do you fucking want bitch? I told you this is my fucking area and let you get the fuck out without a beat down last time so why the fuck are ya back? Here to sulk about ya fucking elite plush? Ya fuckin baby who needs their lil' plushy wushy? Fuck off. I'm sellin' that shit for cash. You know how much those light cult bitches will pay for any kind of Necrozma shit? I want that fuckin' cash. Now piss off."

Pumpkin stood there and simply continued staring at Kicks, not moving.

KICKS: "Jeez you really are fucking retarded aren't you ya autistic tard. PISS. OFF. CUNT."

The Shinx's face scrunches up in annoyance. Xey remember all the shit that Kicks has done to them today and even before that. During school times, embarrassing them during public. Xey've had enough.

Pumpkin remembers earlier today when xey were pushed into the beach's sand, begging for their things back while Kicks yelled and screamed at them. Saying awful words again and again.

PUMPKIN: "YOU KNOW WHAT. NO. YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP! I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF YOU FUCKING TAKING ADVANTAGE OF ME! I'VE DONE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO YOU AND YOU'VE JUST BEEN PICKING ON ME AND BEATING THE SHIT OUT OF ME TO FUEL YOUR OWN STUPID EGO. STOP FUCKING BEATING THE SHIT OUT OF ME AND OTHERS JUST BECAUSE YOUR STUPID FUCKING DAD LEFT. BOO HOO HE'S GONE. I DON'T CARE. I'M TAKING MY SHIT BACK AND I'M FUCKING GOING HOME YOU STINKY ASS FUCKING COKED UP BITCH!"

Terrance stares from the mat looking shocked and starts looking between the pissed off cat and the electric, increasingly mad rodent.

KICKS: "DON'T SAY SHIT ABOUT MY DAD YOU SPOILED SHIT FUCK."

PUMPKIN: "SAYS YOU! YOU HAVE EVERYONE WRAPPED AROUND YOUR FUCKING FINGER. WELL GUESS WHAT BITCH. NOBODY WANT'S TO SHAG YOU. THEY'RE ONLY FRIENDS WITH YOU BECAUSE THEY'RE SCARED OF YOU. NOBODY LIKES YOU ASSHOLE! NOW IM TAKING MY FUCKING LION AND NECKLACE. AND IF YOU DON'T WANT ME TO. THEN FUCKING FIGHT ME. OR ARE YOU TOO AFRAID TO EVEN THROW A PUNCH NOW THAT SOMEONE'S ACTUALLY FIGHTING BACK. YOU FUCKING COWARD!"

Connor stares from behind the rock cropping that he's hiding from. Absolutely fucking astounded by Pumpkin's outburst. He had no idea he was holding back in all that rage.

Kicks meanwhile, just heads for his bag and takes out a bottle of pills, emptying it into his hand and dry swallows it, tossing away the now empty bottle that simply had a label of masking tape with "FUCK UP PILLS" written on it. He then grabs what seems to be a needle with a capped end on it, using his other hand to drag Terrance up to stand on his feet.

KICKS: "We're killing this fucking ass tard. Nobody's gonna find his fuckin' corpse if we cover it with rocks and toss em into the ocean."

Terrance looks chill and emotionless but from the sweat accumulating on his head, you can tell that he's scared shitless by his companion, the comment about people only hanging around Kicks and tolerating it because they're scared clearly being a true one.

Connor comes out and goes to join Pumpkin, standing behind him.

CONNOR: "Holy shit this guy's a fucking psycho, not to mention a druggy. Dude you didn't mention that."

PUMPKIN: "Well It wasn't important then!"

KICKS: "OI CUNT. WHERE'D THAT MONKEY FUCK COME FROM. I HAVEN'T SEEN THAT CLOTHELESS FUCKO ROUND 'ERE."

PUMPKIN: "Well I wasn't going to come to a 2 v 1. I'm not as RETARDED as you say I am bitch!"

CONNOR: "Yeah! Now it's slightly fairer because you've drugged up you crazy bitch!"

KICKS: "DON'T SAY SHIT ABOUT ME AND MY PILLS!"

His grip on Terrance loosens as he pushes him forward to fight for him.

KICKS: "Kick the monkey's ass while I take care of little kiddy kitty over here. I feel them fuckin' kicking in and I'm ready to throw hands."

The fight for Pumpkin's belongings now begins.

So this is basically PMD x Kirby

(Here’s a key: pink is the name of the character, green is the Pokemon they chose, blue means male, pink means female, purple is the description of design changes)

So, before I explain who gets who, Adeleine sets up a few rules/guidelines for everyone.

1: The couch. Adeleine and Ribbon live in a cottage on the outskirts of town and therefore have a small house. When everyone’s there, she has a set seating system: tall people (DDD, herself, Daroach, etc) have to sit on the couch or in the general back. Short people (basically everyone else) sit in front of the couch and around the floor (she gives them pillows and floor seats of course)

2: No repeats! It’s to help her remember and also to not cause confusion or arguments. Nobody gets to have the same Pokemon as someone else (the only exception being if they plan to evolve them into a branching evolution, like Gardevoir and Gallade in the Ralts line)

3: Personalize! Everyone gets to add design changes to theirs (cut ear, different patterns, accessories, etc) to make them their own! They also assign genders to theirs and if they can’t decide, dice are rolled. Odds for male, evens for female (they can choose not to, but the vast majority were like “yeah whatever let’s just give them a gender”).

Ok onto the actual Pokemon

Adeleine: Chikorita, female, wears a scarf (part of the in-game story) and has a multicolored head leaf! Also had a small crystal hanging from her neck!

She saw the design and called them a “tiny dinosaur with a big leaf” and immediately decided on them. She loves them to death and thinks they’re the cutest Pokemon on the planet.

Ribbon: Fennekin, female, wears a scarf (part of the in-game story), has fur that is more pink than red, and wears a huge red bow! Also has a small crystal hanging from her neck!

Couldn’t choose the same Pokemon as Adeleine and thought Fennekin looked beautiful (she was even more excited when she saw the final evolution). She also has a type matchup with Adeleine and absolutely takes bullets for her to keep her from dying.

Kirby: Eevee, female, white fur is tinted pink, has blue eyes instead of brown, and wears bunch of colorful accessories like bows, bracelets/anklets, and collars!

Couldn’t decide on the gender and the dice rolled female! He doesn’t care and loves his Eevee!!! He likes how soft they look and how they have different evolution!! It’s like his copy abilities!!! He’s stuck trying to figure out what to evolve them into tho.

Dedede: Piplup, male, wears a big robe and hat, body is a slightly darker and more vibrant blue, and is a little chubbier!

He convinced Adeleine to take on a more difficult dungeon request for this (she got a big dinner at the royal table and got to stay the night in one of the royal rooms out of it though so it was worth it) and after a near 2 hour run and almost 3 game overs, she got it. Dedede only wanted it because it’s the only penguin Pokemon in the series and he wanted a big penguin like himself!!!

Meta Knight: Ralts (Gallade), male, wears a mask like his own, has more jagged blades, and wears a cape!

Only picked them because they saw Gallade and said “yeah that’s gonna be me” and didn’t wait for an answer. He likes their arm blades and the fact that they have a mega evolution (even BIGGER blades!!!!!!! A big tattered cape!!!!!! Badass looks!!!!! What’s not to like!!!!)

Bandee: Karrablast, male, wears a blue bandana, body is orange instead of blue, stomach is cream instead of orange, and has a tiny spear (this is later removed when they evolve)!!!

They saw Escavalier and got super excited!! Double spear arms!!! Armored and tough looking!!! They like how tough they look and 100% chose them for that reason only (although the Pokemon kinda grew on them over time). Not ultra tough right now but they’re getting there!

Marx: Sableye, male, gems are basically mirrors, wears a jester cap like his own, and has only 2 claws instead of 3!!

He likes how fucking creepy they look and how their mega evolution has teeth. It’s a very specific detail they will absolutely drill into why they like them so much. They also like how powerful they can be if used correctly!

Gooey: Goomy, female, body is shades of blue instead of purple, has a tongue that noticeably sticks out!!

He originally wanted Ditto but then they saw Goomy and felt a certain kind of love for them. He also couldn’t decide and the dice rolled female! He likes how the name is similar to his own and how they’re goopy like him!!! They’re also super squishy and he is too!!!!!!

Rick: Dedenne, male, tail is shorter, body is similar in color to him, has beans!!!!!!

He likes how they’re kinda hamster-esc!! They have electricity too which is hella cool. They look kinda soft to him and he was mildly upset over them not having paw beans and demanded that Dedenne be given justice by having them drawn in (Adeleine totally agrees to this). He likes to think they’re mega soft like himself!!!

Kine: Magikarp, male, slightly flatter, blue instead of orange, larger fins!!

He couldn’t choose a Pokemon and eventually just settled on Magikarp because he thought they’d be ok. Didn’t realize they evolve into such a big Pokemon until they saw what it looked like in one of the dungeons. The keep bragging about how powerful they’re gonna be when they finally evolve, but nobody is taking him seriously because he can only use 1 move as of now and hasn’t reached a point where he can evolve yet.

Coo: Hoothoot, male, body is purple instead of brown, has spiked feathers on his head, has a softer and fluffier appearance!!!!!

It’s an owl. He wanted to be an owl. He reeeeaaallly wants to evolve because Noctowl looks way cooler but he’s fine with what he’s got for now!!! He has a speed based build because he can fly very fast :)

Dark Meta Knight: Noibat, female, monochromatic colors with some red mixed in, mask with a scar, tattered wing membrane!!!

Purposefully decided on having a femal because he thinks it kicks ass a little more (also he loves his adopted daughter and decided that would be badass too). Built like a fucking assault tank but with speed. He absolutely leads the charge when he’s playing and takes every fucking hit possible if it’s aimed at his daughter. Gloats about his badass evolution and how fucking sick it looks despite having not evolved yet.

Daroach: Sneasel, male, wears a cloak and hat like his own, has yellow and longer claws!!!!

He didn’t like any of the existing rats and said “lemme get a thief pokemon” and settled on Sneasel. They have a team called the Squeak Squad and it’s comprised of his Sneasel and the squeaks own copies of the game! They play together in their free time and Daroach had Adeleine grab him a Sneasel so he could play on her copy too.

Magolor: Inkay, male, wears a blue cloak like his own, has yellow eyes!!! (The cloak doesn’t really fit until Inkay evolves)

Physically couldn’t choose and then someone showed him Inkay and he said “oh! I fucking hate them.” It was only until they showed him Malamar that he said “oh they look like they’d backstab someone. Perfect.” He likes how fucking ominous they look and how they would 100% be a supervillain given the chance. His Inkay is a good guy tho don’t worry.

Taranza: Joltik, male, has tiny fangs and little horns that grow out when they evolve, wears a cape, has little gloves on their hands!!!

He wanted Flabebe because of the flowers but was told someone already took that one and decided he’d take a spider Pokemon! Almost settled on Ariados but then saw Galvantula and got super excited. He likes their fuzzy look and thinks they are a lovely Pokemon!!

Susie: Gothita, female, eyes are gradient blue with no pupils, has pink accents on the head, more modern appearance!!

She couldn’t find any pretty ones with tech on them but liked Gothita! She thinks they look ok and Adeleine was nice enough to invite her over for PMD game day so she joined in. Her Gothita is surprisingly beastly and is a heavy hitter! However she also gets her ass kicked really fast because Gothita isn’t built for up close heavy hitting.

Zan Partizanne: Shinx, female, wears the same clothes as her, has more yellow on her!!

She really liked how Shinx looks. Tiny electric kitty puppy thing! She wanted to name it after some kind of thunder deity but wasn’t able to (she probably had a name for it tho). Speedy little powerhouse who looks adorable. Continues to tell Adeleine that she’s only doing this to repay her debt (and also for insulting her hairline) but is really just enjoying herself.

Flamberge: Fletchling, female, wears the hat and ribbon-like shawl, has spiked feathers that stick up a lot like her hair, more vibrant red!!!

She fucking loves this little bird. Like. A lot. Something about them is just so awesome to her. Maybe it’s because it evolves into a giant fire falcon but who knows! She just loves them and cherishes them with all her heart. BEGGED Adeleine to recruit them and managed to convince her (she had to offer up making her a cool sword to get it. Adeleine accepted the deal almost immediately because cool ass sword).

Francisca: Vanillite, female, wears the hat and shawl, has more vibrant blue, ice cream part is the same color as her hair!!!

You know exactly why she chose this one. Ice cream baby!!!!!!!! She thinks they’re lovely and wants a plush of them super bad (they don’t make them yet but merch happens eventually!). She jokes that they have an ice cream stash they live in.

Pitch: Pidgey, male, green in color!

He got to join in after the other animal friends told him! He’s good friends with Adeleine (all the animal friends are) and she let him pick a Pokemon! He doesn’t play as much because he has to use his little feet’s but he does his best!

Nago: Glameow, female, body is orange and the ears are brown! Eyes remain closed instead of open to reflect his design!

He wanted it to be a girl just because. He says it’s because it resembles his girlfriend a teensy bit (just in coat color really) and he loves her a lot. Little bastard cat causes trouble on adventures and purposefully runs off to look for the stairs by himself without any incentive from Adeleine.

Chuchu: Frillish, female, wears a small red ribbon and has a more vibrant pink body!!

Couldn’t choose originally but settled on Frillish because it’s the closest thing to her. Nicknamed it frilly and likes to cause problems. She’s got a pretty decent move set and knows how to kick ass with it tho so she makes up for her trouble with that.

Queen Ripple: Flabébé, female, wears glasses and has black ear frill things, wears her crown, and wears her dress!!! Flower is white!

She gets to play too!!!!! Adeleine offered to let her have a Pokemon and she plays though wireless connection! On a very rare occasion, she makes a trip out to Popstar for a week or so and gets to play during then! She has a lot of fun and adores the design for Flabébé so damn much (plus it’s fairy type and that makes her very happy)!!!
