I randomly get inspired to write weird stuff with Gabriel that I'm usually not even into and a lot of the time I get comments that amount to I'm not into this. Am I? or being surprised they were into it. Gabriel is just randomly inflicting this sort of thing on everyone I suppose
Gabriel Ultrakill has been reclassified as a gateway drug. Please keep an eye out for any suspicious activity.

well this morning as I woke up from a 4 or so hour night of sleep i had the brilliant idea of trying to fight Gabriel in 3-2 on Violent while listening to a youtube video, with no in-game music, relatively low in-game master sound and without having actually beaten him (on Violent) after having spent over three hours and a half exclusively trying to kick his ass a few days ago.
so. uhm. yeah. drew how it felt (while also remaining as vague as i could as to not upset anyone lol)
this was both surprisingly hard but also relatively quick? in a weird sort of way? idk girl
screenshots below if you care lol
Tumblr media
the 3h30 hour attempt proof (i quit at fucking 3 am my wrists were sore as fuck)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the one successful attempt (was surprisingly quicker than expected)
so uh. yea. laughed really loudly when i did beat him and when he called me an insignificant fuck again. 11/10 will do again.

emilie agreste and rose quartz.. the same
I THINK ABOUT THIS ALL THE TIME
#the. what's that one post about characters who aren't in the story but are in every part of the story#the way emilie and rose are both so revered in their narratives#and leave such a gaping hole#i find stories about the absence of someone so interesting#ive spent so long trying to decide how i would characterize emilie if I were ever to write her#and eventually I made a list of things that adrien is that he got from his dad and things that adrien is that he definitely did NOT#get from his dad#and then i decided to attribute THOSE things to my perception of emilie#and I love the idea of borrowing from rose quartz's complex of becoming whatever the people around her wanted her to be#so that they all elevated her but had different ideas about who she actually was#& how she was actually so deeply insecure and doubtful about who she really was#that she decided to leave#very emilie to me.#think a lot about how adrien impulsively reflects what people want from him#(he's a mirrorball girl if you get what I mean)#and how he's just so universally adored#how he doesn't have a strong sense of self because he is always performing just as much as he is experiencing.#his expression of self is always at least somewhat impacted by who's around him and what they want or expect from him#and he didn't get that from gabe. gabe doesn't model that at all.#so I think it would be interesting if he got it from emilie#because she WAS universally adored. the same way adrien is.#look at what she did to adrien. to nathalie. to gabe. everyone who knew her loved her so completely#but she's also someone who would leave them all behind#I think that emilie taught adrien the idea of self-sacrifice as an expression of love. I think she taught him how to hate yourself#and be loved by everyone else#I think emilie messed him up too.#anyway YES tumblr user mari-monsta. yes I do think about that#ml#anna rambles#thirteen

Something about people saying that movie!gabe is better than show!gabe because he "cares about adrien" rubs me the wrong way because… show!adrien is very clearly a victim of abuse that has obviously been going on for a while, i'd guess even before emilie's death. You don't get a boy as terribly afraid of his father without him being some form of abused, and that's the whole point of his story. like, if gabe cared about adrien, then adrien wouldn't be the adrien we know, he'd be movie!adrien. It works for the movie but would never ever work for the show. Show!Adrien's entire arc and character basis is about overcoming his abuse, so to take that away from him feels… gross, to me. idk!

would it be sacrilege of me to say that i am kinda hashtag Underwhelmed by the percy jackson show
#first off. the directing is just not that good.#like you could have taken the unique story and made interesting choices that make the story feel more exciting but so far it’s just so basi#basic shot composition basic camera movement fairly basic lighting#also like i can understand changes from the book. going from a first person novel to a show is difficult and you have to make changes.#but also some of them are just like nonsensical. why would you change the claiming from a moment of victory for percy to whatever that was#<- well okay not really victory. more confusion and fear and desperation with a tad bit of victory#(also the claiming symbol looked bad and i’m salty about that)#i liked that annabeth had it figured out though that was fun. the introduction to her character kinda slayed#oh my god also the decision for that scene where luke is telling percy abt him annabeth and thalia to Not have any broll type shots overtop#-of the explaination actually Showing what luke was saying was lame#i get that they don’t have the actor for thalia chosen yet but you could have easily done it to where you only showed young luke+annabeth-#-and just thalia’s like sillohuette or hand reaching out or whatever#also again about the claiming scene they just took away all of the hints toward future twists. the hellhound summoned by someone in camp-#-and the hints toward the Big prophecy :(#anyway overall it’s awesome and it’s so fun to see pjo on screen. it’s just a bit lacking imo ☹️#oh and the reduction of gabe into an almost comedic character rather than as an absolutely foul person that percy and sally have had to-#-suffer just does not work for me. it’s such an important detail thematically and also gives so much more context and meaning to percy and-#-sally’s lives and relationship. i think it’s so important but they changed it to something more palletable :(#ash rambles#ash.txt

I want Ment to be lowkey implied to be dead and/or magic in Hallmark au and was thinking when they get dropped off after babysitting or smthng they just get dropped off at the cemetary and its like. 'Oh you live near here?' 'Haha. Yes.'
But then I realized given the specific hallmark scenario. The Angst
They never accept offers (from Trickster specifically) of getting driven home. Partly to make it easier to hide but also. Well. They know he offered but it still seems too much to ask. Not this soon

If/When Gabe looks at another agent/operative after they've had to make a hard choice and they're struggling, and he says, "You need to get over it or get out." …
It comes across as being really rude and callous and inconsiderate, of course. Probably gets him labelled as a heartless bastard more often than not.
But at the end of the day, to him, it's one of the kindest things he can tell another person in their line of work [ with few exceptions for people he's actually close to and comfortable enough to be more open and, by consequence and necessity, vulnerable with, such as @quick-drawn ].
As he sees it, what he says is the summary of several things boiling down to this: at the end of the day, they'll either get over it because they have a job to do and they want to keep doing it, they'll burn out and quit because they realize they don't have the stomach for it, or they'll get killed because they DIDN'T get over it and they hesitated where their enemy didn't.
There's no room for doubt in a job like this. The decisions are instantaneous. The results are dire and extreme. Win or lose. Live or die. Kill or be killed.
So get over it… or get out, because if you don't, you're going to be another name for the wall.

actually I do want to talk about Sally Jackson a tad more because one criticism I've been hearing about her book counterpart more recently is "book Sally is one-dimensional: the perfect mother with no flaws" and that just has me biting my cheek because one part of her book counterpart that I always thought was ripe with discussion and didn't make it to the show is that Sally states that it was selfish of her to keep Percy close. It's one of the last things she says to him before she's "killed" by the minotaur.
And there's so much that we don't know about Sally because we view her from Percy's eyes. From his perspective we know that she's exceedingly kind, she never raises her voice to him or even Gabe, and she endured a horrible and abusive relationship to protect her son from monsters (of a different kind).
But there are things we can piece together from the text: Sally has known about CHB for a long time, apparently since before Percy was even born because Poseidon told her he wanted to send Percy there; she was told that it was a mistake for her to keep Percy close - who told her that, we're not sure, she only uses the phrase they; she's been in contact with Grover through out the school year; she knows that she can't cross the camp boundary line, which means either Grover or someone else (Chiron? Poseidon?) told her that, and that she understood that there was place that Percy would be safe from monsters.
And all of these little details are so interesting because it does make you wonder just how much she did or didn't know. Was her self assessment right? Was it selfish of her to keep Percy close?
On one hand, she kept him close because she loved him, alongside the fear that if she sent him to camp, she would be saying goodbye for good -- so is it even fair to call the act of keeping him close selfish? Or perhaps, much like Chiron, she assumed keeping Percy in the dark would be safer?
But on the other hand, Percy had been attracting monsters all his childhood, she understood camp was a safe place from monsters, and she had apparently been told explicitly that it was a mistake for her to keep him close.
And then adding in the factors of: Percy is her only family in the entire world, she's been suffering with Gabe for years, sacrificing so much in order to keep Percy safe when he's at home... but even that has a touch of sad irony because when we meet Percy in tlt, its at point when he's not really home at all -- he's been regularly sent off to boarding schools, so much so that he's internalized it as his own short-coming.
And all of this isn't to say "Omg Sally is actually horrible" or to assert definitely that she is selfish... but more to speak to the fact that in the books, she's not an all-perfect 2-dimensional mother. And her self-assessment of selfishness is something that is really interesting to explore and debate given the implications of what she apparently did (or did not) know about the godly world. I feel there's even an argument to be made that Sally being "selfish" could be a reflection of Percy's fatal flaw.

Rereading The Lightning Thief as an adult was such an odd and gratifying experience. I just finished the book in one day yesterday, and here are the things I made note of to myself:
-Wayyy less of the book than I remember is the quest. So much time is spent building up Percy's character, and his life and backstory.
-Percy is such a little asshole, it's hilarious. He is SO RUDE to everyone, it's my favorite. I want to live with how much more of a dick he is than I remembered. I remember golden boy teen Percy who's good at everything and is effortlessly cool in the perceptions of others in the later books best. Like, we obviously know him better, but I kinda forgot about his snotty little asshole sixth grader origins.
-As someone that works in the school system, he's so accurate to me it hurts. It's so relatable, his one teacher believing in him, him getting frustrated when the material doesn't come to him like it does the other kids. I don't have ADHD and I could just feel all those feelings. It's great.
-Every time Percy thinks about the "betrayal of a friend" line in his prophecy, I swear Luke is mentioned in the next line, or pops up in the next scene. I just appreciate Rick not going out of his way to seem smarter than his audience. He wants his readers, middle schoolers, to have the tools to solve the mystery.
-I can't remember if I knew his dad was Poseidon before the reveal. As an adult, it seems like almost a slap in the face it's so obvious, but I am pissed I can't remember if I was excited and surprised by the reveal.
-Annabeth is also a bitchy child, she's literally so bitchy. We don't focus on it enough.
-I definitely remember when it hit me as a child that Gabe was abusive. It was way after I read this book. I kind of like how casually the domestic violence is sprinkled in. Not only is it a children's book where that is not the focus, but Percy acts like how most kids would, I think. It's pretty fine and normal that Gabe hits him, he only goes ballistic when he finds out he hits Sally. Obsessed with how Rick, by even only barely telling us Gabe is abusive, is still like "-And we should kill him for it."
-Annabeth's crush on Luke was so obvious, she should be embarrassed.
-Totally forgot we have Gabe to thank for Percy for sure being an FBI fugitive and definitely on the no fly list irl as well as from Zeus. He's such a massive asshole.

Remind me to never make events in my fic happen on certain dates again.
#Was Born To Lead#I almost died calculating all this stuff#Okay it wasn’t that hard but certainly unpleasant#It all started with Gabe’s birthday that takes place on the fourth of January and it’s freaking Wednesday#And Valerio had to return from Nueva Vista on Monday so I had to calculate the date for it too#and then every next chapter takes place on the next day#But then I just HAD to specify that Ángel applies to the fencing school on Monday#Why would I do that#And then Frida leaves on Saturday#But this is not the worst thing#The worst thing was to decide when to make Gabe’s scout camp start#Because if I made it on Monday it would be the 30th of January and it would suck because I want this camp to start in February#And it would also suck because I said Valerio was staying in Nueva Vista until the fourteenth of February#when Gabe already returned from the camp which is bad because the next chapter is supposed to have two parallel arcs again#so be prepared for it being extremely long#Anyway eventually I made the camp start on the first of February which is Wednesday#The 30th of January is the first day of the winter break in Gabe’s school#and the camp lasts for two weeks so the break ends on the 20th of February#It’s three whole weeks! Avaloran kids are blessed#I had no idea it would turn out like that but yeah now Avaloran schools have a three week long break in winter#What having everything planned even is#Плывём по течению детка#Anyway I’ll try not to specify the dates again because really it’s too much unnecessary work and stress#I feel like I explained everything extremely unclear here but ignore it I don’t think I quite understand it either#Conclusion: I want everything to make sense and it makes me suffer and unnecessary complicates my life#*looks at my ciphers and laughs nervously*#I really have to write the whole separate post about my ciphers because damn#they’re literally just unbreakable I don’t think ciphers are supposed to work like that

Leave It In The Sun, a Wind Waker Fan Comic
This comic was made in 2021 for @zelink-fanzine. I spent a lot of time in 2020 playing wind waker and listening to the beach boys and i wanted to make something that captured the feeling. I really love Tetra and I really don't love how she gets sidelined in the third act of the game so I wanted to take it in a route that felt more like Tetra. I spent a long time on this comic and the composition and textures and listened to a lot of music. Specifically the dress pose on page 2 and the spiral mural on page 3 were the hardest parts of the comic by far. I wouldn't have been able to make this comic without the friends I talked to on the discord phone while making it. Pretty much every part of this comic I can look at something and remember the conversation I had while drawing that specific thing. I really felt an impulse to "Prove Myself" with this one, and I'm really glad I did! it had a really warm reception and made me feel like I Did It, if you know what i mean.
The name "Leave it in the Sun" is a reference to a Jeff Rosenstock song of the same name. The whole album "NO DREAM" was a really big part of giving me the energy to finish this comic but this song was specifically the big one to me. It may not have been intentionally written to be a love song but i just find the lyrics soo romantic and triumphant. Since this whole comic was about reinterpreting meaning from old texts I felt like it was the only thing I could name this comic! The main part was like
If you knew that I think about you every single day
would it make you feel like I'm too much for you?
Or would you kinda wanna say
"You don't have to feel that way
I've been trying not to think about you too."
To any who are interested here's a big youtube playlist of the music i listened to while making this. honestly was pretty useful! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwEKjLDquWHV9QsmbiK9qN_Rtf9C7Fc8j
Special thanks to Ria, Marty, Gabes, Lilly, Fizz, Becksa, Kram, Step, Maddy, Iz, and the zelink zine people. Everyone else helped a lot but without Ria I wouldnta got past the first thumbnail sketch..shoutout ria

i still can't believe the LA Times article/interview just. openly admits that the show intentionally, from the beginning, fully removed Gabe being abusive and overtly made him just a nosy loser. Percy's relationship with Gabe is so important to how he navigates the world and the themes of the series. Percy's first monster is in his own home. He uses wards against evil against his step-father and they work. He has overt PTSD that colors his interactions with Mr. D and is why he's so antagonistic towards him for like four books. It isn't until Percy is able to move past his trauma and how Mr. D reminds him of Gabe that he sees Mr. D for who he actually is and understand him and begin to empathize with him. Heck, even into HoO we see Percy having visceral reactions to implications of alcohol/drinking because of Gabe. Everything about Percy's home life colors him as a character. His trauma and PTSD informs his perspective and they explicitly removed his PTSD in the show.
They removed Percy's PTSD. They brush over his experiences as a neurodivergent/disabled kid after the first episode and turned Sally into an Autism Speaks mom. Why. On what planet was that a reasonable change to be made.
