Legend could feel eyes on him as he walked away from their camp. Four’s quiet worry, Warriors’ underlying protectiveness, Hyrule’s curiosity. The constant attention was exactly why he had suddenly announced that he was going on a quick walk for some fresh air, no need to accompany him. Wild had sworn that there were no monsters around, so Legend didn’t bother to grab any weapons other than his fist ring and an ice rod.
The ambient bustle and chatter of camp quickly faded, replaced with buzzing insects and tall grass rustling in the breeze. Legend closed his eyes, walking aimlessly and breathing in the crisp air. This was what they were fighting for. A peaceful kingdom, untouched by evil.
Evil, of course, chose that moment to touch Legend.
An unexpected misstep brought Legend’s boot to a sticky, miasmic substance that, as he gasped and looked down at it, sent red tendrils to climb and cling. They darted up and around his boots, reaching his knees in a matter of seconds. It burned on contact with bare skin, but he had no time to react before he fell to the ground, catching himself with-
Paws. Pink, furry bunny paws.
Legend wanted to scream.
So he did, though it was more of an embarrassingly high shriek. It wasn’t like there was anybody around to hear him, so he did it again for good measure.
Just how had it not crossed the champion’s mind to warn them about random puddles of sinister gunk? If Legend had known, he would have brought his moon pearl but just this once, he had considered himself safe to leave most of his gear behind for a simple walk.
Whiskers twitching as he grumbled murderous thoughts, Legend turned tail and began to hop back in the direction of camp. Only a few hops later, he was stopped in his tracks by an explosion of hanafuda.
A gloved hand grabbed the scruff of Legend’s neck, hoisting him up to come face-to-face with a white mask bearing an upside-down symbol of the Sheikah. The wearer of the mask was tall and lanky, wearing a red skintight bodysuit and flanked by two seemingly identical individuals.
Legend glared and ground his teeth. Just act like a normal rabbit and they’ll let you go, no harm done. There’s no way you can fight one of them like this, let alone three.
“Is that really a blupee?” one of them asked, tilting his head to the side. “I thought it would be more… blue.”
Another elbowed him. “It’s a magic bunny, idiot, you think they can’t come in more colors?”
Legend showed no signs of understanding their banter. Not a magic bunny, just a normal one, now let me go.
“Both of you shut up,” the one holding Legend snapped. “If this is a blupee, the color of its fur won’t matter. It’s the inside that counts.”
“Yeah!” the first one nodded along. “Blupee blood… rumored to be one of the most magically potent liquids in Hyrule! Imagine what Master Kohga could do with a store of the stuff!”
“Glory to Master Kohga,” the three intoned in unison.
That was a bit concerning. Legend prepared himself to slip free and bolt away the instant one of them raised their weapon. There was only one way these goons could harvest his blood, he thought, very much aware of the vicious-looking sickles on their backs.
His kidnappers gave no warning before teleporting, the peaceful field vanishing in the blink of an eye. Legend sneezed as a fluttering paper brushed his nose, then observed his new surroundings.
They were in a cave now, cool and damp with moss-covered walls and lit by a few luminescent plants. A simple wooden table and stools were shoved against a curved wall. A crude bamboo cage sat, empty, on top of a crate in a corner of the cave. Drawings and diagrams of rabbits and recipes decorated the walls.
Nice and homey, Legend thought. Hopefully this isn’t too far from where I was… Wild’s era is so massive, I could escape and never find the others.
It wasn’t going to be nearly as easy to escape now, though. Who knew how many tunnels connected to this room? Legend couldn’t even see a hint of sunlight coming from the entrance.
“You, get the stuff ready,” the not-Sheikah holding Legend ordered. “I’ll need help holding it down-”
Absolutely not. Legend drew the line there, not giving them the chance to draw their sickle before he twisted and bit down on fingers that were only protected by a single layer of fabric. The goon shouted in pain and surprise, fumbling Legend and dropping him. The pink bunny sprinted away, weaving around feet and slipping on wet moss. He was once again thwarted by a shower of hanafuda and two pairs of hands finding purchase on his body.
“You’re as slippery as a banana peel, I’ll give you that!” one of them exclaimed. Legend had lost track of who was who but he supposed that it didn’t matter at this point.
“We’re not even going to kill you!” the other added. “You should consider yourself lucky that you’re a goldmine of magic. Yes, we’ll keep you alive for as long as we can use you, don’t you worry.”
Legend tilted his head to the side, confused. He hadn’t expected them to have actually thought this through. Not that he trusted those sickles for a second. A careless slash could still injure him badly enough to bleed out in minutes.
They carried Legend back to the table, firm hands keeping his head and legs in place. His attempts to kick, twist and bite were easily quashed. The realization that he might not be able to escape set in, along with a looming sense of panic. He had forgotten how his rabbit form intensified fear; his heartbeat increased to an unnaturally fast staccato and his senses were more oversensitive than ever.
The not-Sheikah arranged Legend on the table, keeping him restrained with pressure on his head, back, and legs.
“Hold it still. I don’t want the needle coming out just because you can’t handle a ‘slippery banana peel.’”
Legend skipped a breath, a heartbeat.
He had to have heard that wrong, there was no way-
He managed to turn his head enough to see the third kidnapper, and everything came crashing down.
In one hand, the not-Sheikah held a few small glass vials, empty and waiting for so-called blupee blood.
In the other, an empty syringe with a very long needle on the end.
With a surge of desperate strength, Legend squirmed but the hands only tightened around him. He didn’t have time to weigh the pros and cons; his mouth opened and a frantic stream of words tumbled out.
“Wait, WAIT! I’m not a blupee- I’m not even a magical rabbit at all! You won’t gain anything from my blood!”
The dangerous one paused, peering at Legend through his expressionless mask. “You talk?!”
“Yes, yes- I can talk, and blupees can’t talk, so you can tell that I’m not a blupee after all. Now this is all a big misunderstanding and you can let me go now-”
All three of them started to laugh, and Legend’s heart dropped.
“Let you go? After you just gave away the fact that you can talk? You may not be a blupee, but you have to be a magical bunny of some kind. We’ll find a use for your blood one way or another.” With that, he disappeared from Legend’s line of sight. Legend heard him set the vials near his hind leg, and resumed his futile thrashing.
“No- no- I’m not magical- you don’t have to do this- leave me alone- just let me GO!” Legend wailed, nails digging into the table as he scrabbled for purchase in the wood.
His head was pressed down, his jaw aching as it met the hard surface, limiting his mouth to simple vocalizations.
He couldn’t talk, he couldn’t move-
The not-Sheikah, none too gently, pushed the needle through to Legend’s bloodstream, and all he could do was scream.
Small and helpless and restrained and terrified and screaming-
It was too familiar, too real.
It lasted longer, this time.
Long enough that he almost lost his voice, only the need to express his pain and fear giving him the strength to gulp a desperate breath before continuing.
The not-Sheikah had to reposition the needle a few times, adding an extra layer of horror to the fact that he was leaving it inside for too long as he drew Legend’s blood. Legend tried to pull free, instantly regretting it as he felt the needle scrape inside his leg.
“Quit that,” one of the goons snapped.
Legend whined; it wasn’t like he was willing to try that again.
Eventually he grew lightheaded, gasping for air in between raspy cries. How much blood were they going to take?
“Don’t let go. I’ll open the cage.”
Legend whimpered as the needle was finally removed and set aside. Black spots danced in his vision when he was tossed into the cage, the jarring impact causing him to pass out from exhaustion and pain.
He was roused sometime later by the sound of panic and the smell of lightning. He winced, curling protectively around his leg. Why couldn’t they just leave him alone…
The not-Sheikah were yelling. They were so loud.
“Get out of here! This is our hideout and we’re not letting you have it! We’ve got important research in here and-”
“I’m not in the mood to argue. Either leave now, or this cave will be your grave.”
That… that wasn’t a goon’s voice.
Legend blinked his eyes open, he didn’t dare hope-
The entirety of his view beyond the cage was curtained with royal blue. A familiar scarf, Warriors’ scarf, that Legend would’ve sobbed to see if he had been physically capable of it. Legend couldn’t know if Warriors had even noticed him, and the captain kept his back to him as he presumably stared down the not-Sheikah.
Legend heard the telltale poof of smoke and paper, and saw Warriors visibly relax before taking a step away. Legend yelped and hit the bars of the cage with his paw, and Warriors froze. The captain whirled around, sword still drawn and ready for battle, and Legend cowered as Warriors took a few seconds to register that the threat was simply a bunny. No further recognition appeared in Warriors’ eyes, and Legend was suddenly reminded that he didn’t know.
…Maybe he wouldn’t have to.
Legend stayed silent, scratching at the cage again. Warriors sighed and picked at the lock, calling over his shoulder.
“They’ve got a rabbit in here. No sign of Lege, though…”
A deeper voice answered inquisitively, “A rabbit?”
Oh no. Oh no no no.
“Yes, though I’ve never seen a pink rabbit before. We can release it outside, it doesn’t deserve to go through whatever those idiots were doing to it.” Warriors pulled Legend out of the cage, gently cradling him to his chest. He turned to his companion, whose eyes widened when he saw Legend.
It was Sky. Of course it was Sky. Legend had been humiliated enough, couldn’t he at least shift back in private, where Warriors would be clueless to the fact that he was a coward and a bunny? He bared his teeth at Sky, hoping to relay that now was not a good time.
The birdbrain, unfortunately, did not receive the message. “Um, Wars? That’s… not just a bunny.”
Warriors stiffened, grip tightening around Legend. “What do you mean? Is it another disguised assassin?”
“No, no, he’s- here, let me help.” Sky held the Master Sword out, ignoring Legend’s squirming as he pressed the flat of the blade to a pink paw.
Warriors was unprepared for Legend’s sudden shift to his Hylian form, and the vet slipped out of his hold. Legend crumpled to the ground, biting back a cry of pain as the impact sent shocks of pain up his aching legs. He sat between the other heroes, head bowed and ears down, unwilling to face either of them.
“…Lege?”
Legend opened his mouth to speak, but all that came out was a broken whimper.
Sky was there, offering Legend a hug that he was too tired to refuse. The vet pressed his face into Sky’s shoulder to hide rising tears, feeling the velvety sailcloth wrapped around him.
“Lege, what happened? We didn’t expect them to be proficient enough with magic to turn you into a rabbit, how-?” Warriors was asking too many questions, focusing on all of the wrong things.
“T-table,” Legend gasped, and Sky repeated it more clearly. Warriors was quiet for a moment, turning back to examine the table that Legend had been pinned on earlier.
“Is this… blood?” Warriors asked, dangerously quiet.
Legend burrowed deeper into Sky’s sailcloth, not bothering to confirm what Warriors already knew.
“Yours?”
Legend whimpered, unable to stop it from turning into a sob. Sky stiffened around him and protectively pulled the sailcloth tighter.
“Sky,” Warriors said, voice shaking with the effort of keeping it steady. “Get him out of here.”
Legend felt Sky nod and shift his arms to support him as he stood. Sky sounded short of breath almost immediately, but he determinedly carried Legend out of the cave.
The click and ignition of Warriors’ borrowed fire rod echoed through the tunnel as Sky’s boots met the transition of dirt to grass. Tears stained the sailcloth, a mixture of sunlight and relief and exhaustion overwhelming Legend all at once. He was still crying when they reached camp, and his brothers rushed to offer potions and sugar and blankets.
Warriors returned soon after, the smell of burnt paper clinging to his scarf as he draped it over Legend’s shoulders. Legend buried his hands in the fabric, grateful for Warriors’ close presence and Sky’s comforting hold.
He was surrounded by his brothers, who wouldn’t let anything happen to him. Finally, Legend felt protected and safe.

I hc that the Bargainer Statues are early depictions of the Fierce Deity (who's true form therefore has 4 eyes), who is referred to as a Kishin in Japanese, which according to folklore, are wrathful, powerful, even scary-looking beings & vicious fighters, but are also deeply compassionate, benevolent, & protectors at there core. They're said to enact just & righteous vengeance for those who've been wronged.
Anyway, my thoughts are that he is the 3rd in the Hylian/Demise triad, being where the Hero's Spirit originates from. I also hc that he created the Sheikah much like how Hylia created the Hylians. (So, if the naming conventions follow, his true name could start with "Shei" or "Sheik.")
Anyway, he's a god of war, the moon, heroism, & death. Which is why Link is always able to see spirits. He gathered spirits & fought or soothed Poes (the enemies) either by fighting them or playing the Song of Healing.
The Dark Clumps being pieces of the pseudo-flesh that spirits form to create Poes & the Depths Set being made from this pseudo-flesh.
Also, I hc that the symbols are actually ancient Sheikah script, which the Fierce Deity taught the Sheikah. And before losing or giving up his immortality, he tasked the Sheikah with taking his place, which is who delivered the spirits to the Bargainer Statues before Link.
This is part of the reason why the Sheikah are so heavily associated with death & graveyards.
As for who the Bargainers are, they are this thing called a bushin in Japanese culture, which there deities have the ability to split pieces off of themselves & create lesser copies that rule over certain areas, but are lead by the source deity. The same is said for the Goddess Statues. Basically, Hylia & Fierce gave up their immortality, but the statues are still being run by their bushin.
Stop me, I will literally talk you ear off if you don't.
Anyway, what are your thoughts??
.................................................... OP. My guy, my gal, my non-binary pal. Why did you drop this on my inbox? This needs to be its own proper post! This is a very fascinating take on the Bargainer and the other known deities in the Zelda world.
-
Ngl, I haven't thought much about the Bargainer and their role is since there's so little in their lore. Other than "guiding lost souls into the afterlife without prejudice" and exchanging materials, weapons and outfit sets in return of Poes... (Kinda like how the Goddess Statue exchanges Blessings for Hearts, Stamina and Sage's Wills).
And seeing so many Poes in the Depths in a state of purgatory, makes me think that they are akin to the Grim Reaper of sorts. On top of the Yiga notes about how those "strange statues" would rip the souls out of fellow members if they come too close to it in the Depths.
I also imagine that the name "Bargainer" is a recent title when they were (re)discovered by present-day Hyruleans. And their true name had already been lost to the looooooong passage of time. And for all we know, the "Bargainer" was the god(dess) of the long extinct Zonai people.
That's about as far as I have for the Bargainer.
As for other deities like Hylia, Demise and the Fierce Deity, I don't have much beyond what is present in the games and the popular headcanons shared within the Zelda fandom.
I do have headcanons on how each race and clans interpret these deities and their own faith systems. For example, the Sheikah view Hylia as a "two faced" deity with "light and shadow" themes in their faith. Which is in contrast to their Hylian counterparts who have more clear-cut views on Hylia as the benevolent protector-goddess of their people (And why the Horned Statue exists and is shunned and hidden away).
(Though this is all part of my BotW-TotK Family and Legacy story.)
TL;DR I don't have a lot of ideas / headcanons on who or what these deities are. BUT I do have headcanons on how they are interpreted by different peoples/races.
-
But seriously though OP, if you're reading this, you need to create dedicated posts and elaborate more on these headcanon ideas. They have POTENTIAL to become some very delicious reads.

A New Beginning (Zelda x G/N!Reader)
Tumblr media
In this, the reader is the sheikah champion and I made it where they have a divine beast that is a fox. I also names it Inari, because the most common and well-known symbol of Inari is the fox, or kitsune.
Also TW: mentions of abuse
F/N = Fox name
◇◇◇
"Once we finish helping Daruk with his divine beast, we can work on your divine beast Y/N." Zelda said with a smile as she was walking a bit ahead of Y/N.
Y/N has known Zelda for about a few months now.
They had first met the princess after they were found abandoned and injured by a few Gerudo guards who were on lookout outside of Gerudo Town.
At first nobody trusted them because their parents were well known Yiga clan members, but Zelda, Impa, Link and the other champions were the first to trust them.
Well, Revali was still wasn't fully convinced, but they hoped that they will gain his trust someday.
Now they were the Sheikah Champion, and the pilot of the divine beast Inari, which was a fox much to their delight since it was similar to their pet fox F/N.
"Thanks Zelda. I'm glad I met you." They said with a smile.
Hearing this, Zelda turned to them and gave them a bright smile, which Y/N couldn't help but blush a little.
"I'm glad I met you as well Y/N." But as Zelda turned away, she turned back towards Y/N with a curious look.
"If you don't mind me asking, Y/N. I was wondering, what happened to you when you were found? You were injured quite badly and you refused to tell anyone about how you got so injured."
Hearing that, Y/N's smile dissapeared and they looked away, clearly remembering that night.
Zelda noticed this and a look of concern replaced her smile.
"I'm sorry, you don't have to answer that if you don't want to."
"No, it's okay, I think it would be better if I tell someone about it at least." They said as they sat against a nearby tree, the princess sitting to their right.
"My parents, you already know that they are well known Yiga members. They tried to get me to join them. But I refused. They didn't take it well, so they had me locked up and... beaten... until I joined them."
While Y/N was explaining their story, Zelda could basically feel her heart break.
How could anyone do that to their child... it made her sick to her stomach to think about parents putting their kid through something so horrible.
"A couple weeks later, I managed to escape and found myself outside of Gerudo Town, where the guards found me." They finished as they looked down.
Silence filled the air for a brief moment before Y/N spoke again.
"And finally being away from them, I can work on my new life, and help you all defeat Calamity Ganon." A smile on their lips as they looked at the princess with determination.
That's when they noticed the sad look on the princess' face.
"Hey, it's okay, I'm fine now. Because of your kindness as well as you and the other champions giving me a chance, I was able to start a new life. And I'm grateful for you." They said hoping to lighten the mood a bit.
Then Y/N felt a pair of arms wrap around her in a tight hug.
"Thank you Y/N for trusting me and telling me of your past. I am sorry about what happened to you back then, but I am happy that we were able to help you start over." She said as she pulled away from the hug and held Y/N's hands in her's.
Y/N couldn't help but smile.
While most didn't trust them or cared for them, they were glad that they had some people supporting them.

Febuwhump day 10: killing in self-defense
Whumpee: Sky
Whump Rating: 5/10
TWs: mild violence, blood, murder, panic, vomiting
They were in Wild’s Hyrule, meandering in the general direction of a stable. It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm and perfect. Gentle breezes ruffled healthy green grass, and dragonflies– Wild called them darners, but either way– zipped through the air, hovering peacefully over the ground.
Sky smiled up at… well, the sky. He closed his eyes, relishing the way the sun beat down on his skin. It reminded him of Skyloft, with the blue skies and the warm sun uninterrupted by clouds. Sky liked Wild’s Hyrule a lot.
A man was standing near the bridge, watching as they approached. Wild narrowed his eyes, tilting his head down so his hair covered his face. Maybe he recognized the person standing there?
“Hey! Aren’t you the hero?” The man shouted, grinning.
Wild lifted his head with a furious scowl. “No,” he spat, wrinkling his nose at the man. “Leave us alone.”
“Right, Link!” Sky watched as the man stepped to the side, squatting down slightly as his grin turned more wicked. “I will take your life!” He shouted. With a puff of smoke and paper scraps, a red, Hylian-like monster appeared, wearing a white mask with an inverted Sheikah symbol covering its face.
Sky, one of the closest people to the monster, wasted no time. Before the monster even had a chance to look at him, Sky was already aiming straight for its chest. The Master Sword sunk into flesh with ease, halting the monster’s attack as blood– red, so not infected– seeped from the fatal wound.
“SKY!” Wild screamed, eyes wide with horror.
Sky ripped the Master Sword out of the monster’s chest, letting it fall limp. “What? What’s going on?”
“It’s dead, Wild, what’s the problem?” Hyrule wondered, just as confused. He hummed, staring at the monster’s body. “Your aches look a lot different than mine.”
Wild shook his head, still shocked. “That’s a Yiga,” he explained. “They’re not… they’re evil, but not… they’re not monsters.”
“...What?” Sky felt his blood run cold as he stared at the body. “No. You don’t mean…”
Wild nodded. “I do.”
Sky dropped his beloved Master Sword, backing away in horror. He collapsed, vomiting into the perfect green grass. He had just killed a person. He was a murderer.
Much like the traveler, Sky had assumed– shouldn’t assume, never assume– that the thing attacking was a monster. Even if it had looked Hylian… no. That was a Hylian person that Sky had killed without a second thought.
The Skyloftian dry heaved, on his hands and knees in the grass. He had murdered an innocent– well, maybe not innocent, but certainly not deserving of death– person! Goddess, he was the monster!
“Sky, Sky, calm down,” Warriors soothed, grimacing. “You’re okay.”
“Warriors,” Sky shook his head, choking on a wet sob. “I killed him!”
The Captain cringed, patting Sky’s back. “It’s okay,” he repeated.
“It’s not! I didn’t- I didn’t know, Wars!” He sucked in frantic breaths, gripping Warriors’ tunic with both hands. “How would I have known? How would I-” He hiccuped, shaking his head. “Wars, I… I…”
“Sky.” Warriors sighed, grabbing both of the knight’s shoulders to ground him. “Listen to me. You didn’t know. You couldn’t’ve known. A lot of us would probably react the same way if we got ambushed like that.”
Wind sat down beside Sky, nodding. “Yeah. I mean, it was pretty awesome how quickly you took him down, too.”
“Wind!” Warriors hissed, shooing the teenager away. “Not helpful!”
“It’s fine,” Sky breathed, closing his eyes. “It’s fine; I’m fine. Let’s just…” He opened his eyes, staring up at the clear blue skies as he blinked tears away.
The beautiful weather felt more mocking than breathtaking, now. How could such terrible events occur on a day like this?
Warriors helped Sky up, and Twilight handed over the discarded Master Sword. Sky gagged, staring at the slick red blood that coated the end of the blade. Hylian blood. A Hylian he had killed.
Sick to his stomach, Sky weakly rubbed the blade in the grass– perfect no longer, lively green dampened by the soul-sucking red of Hylian blood– for once not caring for his beloved sword. He wasn’t sure if he could even stand to wield her again after this. After he had taken a life.
Legend stopped his attempts to remove the blood, silently offering a piece of cloth. Sky accepted it with trembling hands, returning the Vet’s solemn nod.
Four laid a hand on Sky’s back, pressing his lips into a thin smile. “You didn’t know,” he said simply. “You didn’t know.”
“It was just self-defense,” Twilight agreed, approaching the knight with a comforting smile. “Now we know, and it won’t happen again.”
Sky broke down, hugging both Four and Twilight close. He sobbed into the rancher’s shoulder, wetting the thick fur of his wolf pelt. “I’m so sorry,” he murmured, shaking his head. “I don’t want to be a murderer.”
“You’re not, you just…” Four trailed off, shrugging. “It was in self-defense. He attacked first, and you reacted. That’s all.”
“And I killed him,” Sky whispered, gripping Twilight’s tunic. “You saw, you all saw… I’m a monster.”
“No,” the rancher stated firmly. “No, Sky, you’re not. You could never be a monster.”
“I killed a man!”
“In self-defense!” The smithy added. “Which is legal, by the way. It’s more common than you’d think.”
Sky looked at Four miserably, shaking his head. “Doesn’t change the fact that I took a life.”
“It weighs on you,” Legend agreed, sighing. Sky turned to him with red rimmed eyes and skin stained with tears. “It’s not easy to forgive yourself, even when it’s unintentional.”
Sky nodded, both confused and upset by Legend’s insight. “Yeah… it’s a lot different than killing a monster.”
“It aches, doesn’t it?” The Veteran continued, now staring Sky down. “It’s a lot to carry, living with the reality of what you’ve done.” He glanced down at his hands, clenching his fists. “It never really goes away, either.” Legend sighed, closing his eyes.
“It’s terrible. It’s atrocious. It’s… beyond description,” the Skyloftian murmured, shaking his head. “How am I supposed to live with myself knowing what I’ve done?”
Legend shrugged. “You don’t get a choice.”
“You have us for support,” Twilight reminded. “We’ve got your back. It’ll be okay.”
“That guy did try to ambush a group of legendary heroes,” Four pointed out. “Any one of us could’ve done the same thing.”
Sky shrugged. “Maybe. I guess. I just… I feel so guilty, and I know he was evil, but…”
“Yeah,” Legend agreed, interrupting. “It’ll feel like that for a while. You learn to grow around it, though.”
“It’ll be okay,” Twilight added.
Four nodded. “We’ve all got you.”
“Thanks, guys,” Sky murmured, cracking the tiniest of smiles. “I don’t deserve you.”
Twilight slung an arm over the Skyloftian’s shoulder, pulling him in close. “You do. You’re a good person, Sky, and we love you.”
Sky smiled, leaning into his brother. “I love you guys too. Thank you.”

Link Fanfic
Links in Time: The Beginning of something
Part 9
Latest upade for my Link Universe inspired fanfiction. Please enjoy and check out the comic I have started!
"So what's our plan now then?" Legend asked, before spooning in a mouth full of stew.
The group sat either side of a long table in the guards mess hall. Bowls of stew and thick slices of buttered bread were passed along the table along with mugs of water and juice.
"Yeah, do we keep searching for these researchers? Or do we keep to our original quest to find Zelda?" Hyrule asked.
"If the Yiga symbol we found was an indication that they've been in the castle recently. They could have kidnapped the researchers," Wild said, staring down into his mug.
"Do you have any idea where they might have taken them?" Time asked.
"My father was looking for Yiga hideouts with my brother. If we can find them they might know what the Yiga have been up to." Maari spoke up. The others looked along the table in her direction.
"Do you think we could find them? I'd rather not take us on a long detour if possible." Time stressed, thinking about how they had already been drawn into local issues. When their real goal lay far ahead.
"I know where they were headed. Father told me he was going to scout out the Great Plateau. During the upheaval there was a lot of Yiga activity there around the old ruins."
"I cleared out the Yiga from the Plateau," Wild stated, gripping his spoon a little too tight.
"I don't know if they went back, but my father was searching for my mother."
Maari paused, as she realised she was going to have to share some more of her story with the heroes. Wars sent her a sympathetic look from across the table.
"My mother disappeared six years ago. She was fighting the Yiga when she vanished. Father hoped that if he went in search of the old Yiga hideouts that he might be able to find her."
"Do you think you could find them of we went to the Plateau?" Four asked.
"I believe so. Sheikah are pretty good at finding our own tribe," Maari replied firmly.
"Let's not forget we have a pretty good tracker of our own!" Legend beamed, as he grappled Twi with a one armed hug.
"Le'me go you crazy vet!" Twi protested, easily pulling free of Legend's smaller form.
"It's not my favourite place in Hyrule," Wild began. "But, it isn't far from the Gerudo Desert. We wouldn't be making much of a detour on our path," Wild said, as he looked up at Time.
The older hero considered for a moment.
"I think we should get to the bottom of this mystery," Time stated, talking slowly as his mind churned. "If we can rescue those people we have a responsibility to try. And perhaps we can slay some monsters on the way!"
The rest of the gang agreed on the plan and once supper was over they retired to their shared dorms in good spirits.
***
Early in the morning Maari and the heroes left Castle Town. They spent the morning trekking across Hyrule Field towards the Plateau. They encountered a handful of bokoblins and lizalfos setting up camp in the woods around Lake Kolomo. However they provided little challenge for nine heroes and a Sheikah warrior. They stopped for a break at the bottom of the plateau cliffs.
"So this is where you began your first adventure?" Sky asked Wild, as he stared up at the cliffs. Wild nodded.
"The Shrine of Resurrection is hidden up in the hills behind the old Temple of Time." Wild replied, waving his hand in the general direction he was talking about.
Time's ears twitched and he looked up at their conversation.
"The Temple of Time? " he said.
"Yeah, it's a ruin, but there's a giant goddess statue inside. But then I found a different temple of time in the sky islands. And Sky said he had a temple of time in his era too." Wild began to ramble, as he pulled another apple out of his pack.
"Another temple of time?" Time asked, his voice was laced with fascination and intrigue. "Can we go see it?" He asked, almost sounding like a child at a fair.
"Weren't you the one who wasn't sure about this detour in the first place?" Wars reminded him, raising an eyebrow.
"That was before I knew there could be a connection between this Hyrule and my time." The old hero retorted, hands on his hips imitating his wife.
"Hold on, hold on, we came here with a mission in mind. Let's see if we can find Maari's father before we go exploring old ruins, okay Time?" Twilight prompted.
Time sighed and nodded at last. "You're right pup, I guess we should get back on task. Maari, do you think you can pick up their trail?"
"There's a place they might have started. An old ruin in the woods," Wild interrupted before Maari could reply. "Sorry, Maari. But I routed the Yiga out of the plateau after the upheaval. I should be able to find their old hideouts again."
"Okay but we should all be on our guard, the Yiga never like to abandon anything if they can help it." Maari agreed, urging the others to draw their weapons and shields.
They climbed the long slope up between the collapsed stone walls towards the plateau. Eyes and ears alert as they walked towards the lowlands of the plateau. Small pools and ancient ruins littered the area. In the distance they could see the trees at the edge of the woods where Wild was leading them.
The trees were old and gnarled, and in such dense cover the group grew uneasy about the possibility of an ambush waiting for them. Every bird brushing through the leaves, every twig breaking underfoot sounded like potential danger. After they had been walking in silence for a while Twilight lifted his head and sniffed the air.
"There's a campfire up ahead," he whispered, so as not to alarm the group.
"Where?" Asked Time. Twi pointed ahead of them. Although there wasn't any smoke visible.
"Through that thicket there. I can smell the smoke on the wind."
"Could be Yiga," Wild pointed out.
"Could be my father and brother," Maari reminded him.
"How should we approach?" Warriors asked.
"I can get closer undetected much easier alone than if we all go together. If they're Yiga I can deal with them. If it's my family I'll call you." Maari suggested.
"Absolutely not!" Time protested. "If it's Yiga and they're as bad as Wild has said they are, you should come and get us and we can deal with them together."
The boys couldn't accurately describe the look on Maari's face because her nose and mouth were covered by her mask. But the glare she gave Time should have burnt him to a crisp where he stood.
"Old Man," Wars said, as lightheartedly as he could manage, "we've all seen that Maari can hold her own in a fight. I think we can trust her to take care of herself."
"I don't need you to argue on my behalf Captain!" Maari rounded on Wars, who was a little taken aback by her outburst. "Oh whatever, just stay here and don't make a sound."
Maari then did whatever the equivalent of silent stomping was and disappeared among the trees. Silence decided over the group and no one seemed to be able to make eye contact, especially Time and Wars, who were usually quite close.
Maari on the other hand was focused on herself and her surroundings. She blocked out the background noise of the boys and the other animals in the woods, and listened to what was going on ahead of her. Now she could smell the smoke she had a better idea of where the camp might be. Maari decided to stay down-wind and use the smoke as cover. However, staying low meant her view was blocked by the trees and undergrowth. She scouted around for a better vantage point and spotted a fallen wall which she could climb to get higher into the canopy.
From higher up Maari spotted the camp fire between some more crumbling walls. There were signs that someone had been there recently. A pile of fresh firewood, and a kettle had been placed next to the fire. And a tarp was pitched and strung against one of the walls as a shelter. But there was no one to be seen. The were no obvious signs of who the camp belonged to so Maari remained cautious as she moved closer.
She kept to the shadows provided by the walls and the slowly descending sun, moving slowly and with precise movements. Just as she got close enough to feel the heat of the fire she felt a movement in the air behind her. Her muscles tensed ready for action. In a flash she drew two daggers and spun around to face whoever had snuck up on her.
"Maari?!" Her brother exclaimed, beaming while holding a spear alarmingly near her head.
"Karu?!" Maari looked up at the face of her little brother. "I nearly killed you!" She replied, jamming her daggers back into her belt.
"I'm sorry, I was just coming back to camp and I saw someone by the fire. I didn't know it was you." Karu retorted, stabbing his spear into the ground.
"You know that's bad for the blade," Maari pointed out, getting to her feet.
"Yeah I know."
"Where's father? Is he with you?"
"We spotted a group of travellers headed our way, he went to spy on them," said Karu.
"Huh, that figures. Wait here," Maari insisted, as she turned back the way she had come.
Meanwhile the boys had taken the weight off their feet as they waited for Maari to return.
"Why are you so mistrusting of Maari?" Wars asked Time, while he picked dirt out from his fingernails.
"I'm not mistrusting," Time replied shortly.
"You sure are prickly about it though," Legend pointed out.
"What do you want me to say. The people I trust most are my wife and the eight of you. Not only are you all chosen heroes but you've earned that title in my eyes ten times over. Forgive me for not implicitly trusting someone we only met a few days ago."
Again they fell into silence until Time sighed.
"But you're right, she volunteered to help us and she's given us no reason to distrust her so far. I'll apologise when she gets back."
"Ahh, Wars is just sticking up for her because he likes her!" Four teased, elbowing the Captain in his arm.
"So what, she's nice. I thought most of you liked her too," he replied, rubbing his arm and preying he wasn't blushing too brightly.
A rustle in the bushes caught their attention and all conversations stopped. Maari appeared through the trees and raised her hands.
"It's just me," she said. "AND THESE GUYS ARE WITH ME!" She shouted, confusing everyone.
"Maari who are you shouting at?" Wild asked.
"That would be me," an older man replied, as he dropped down from a large oak tree near by. "Apologies for dropping in on you like this, but I had to make sure you weren't a threat before you reached our camp."
"Everyone this is my Father, Gartan," Maari introduced him.
He appeared to be in his late forties, wearing traditional Sheikah clothing and a woven hat. He had an eightfold blade at his hip, which he held as he bowed to the group.
"Maari, I didn't expect to see you out here. I thought you were with Paya," Gartan frowned, as he approached his daughter.
"I'm still in Paya's service. I'm helping these heroes solve the new monster problem," Maari replied.
"Indeed, come through here and we can talk by the fireside," Gartan gestured for the others to follow.
They soon found themselves in the little clearing surrounded by ruined walls, where Karu was tending the fire.
"Maari, who are all your friends?" He asked, as they appeared from the forest one by one.
"We can talk about that later. Right now I have some important questions for you both about the Yiga, and what they might be planning." Maari replied, as she crouched by the fire.
During the following hours the gang listened as Maari spoke with her brother and father. They discussed what they had found as well as the new information Maari had found out about the Yiga. Gartan wasn't surprised by the missing research crew. In fact while staying over at the Outskirt Stable they had learned about some missing villagers.
"We assumed it was due to the recent resurgence in monster activity. But the Yiga sigil you found suggests otherwise." Gartan mused. He sat on a log by the fire, elbows on his knees, chin resting on his coiled fingers.
"When we set up this camp we found evidence that some Yiga had been here recently. I was lucky enough to find a lost notebook in the trees," Karu announced, producing a small black leather bound book from a pouch in his kimono. "I thought it might hold some clues. But it's written in code so no luck there."
"Can I see that for a moment?" Wild asked, reaching out for the notebook.
"Sure, but like I said, it's unreadable if you don't know the code." Karu insisted, shrugging as Wild took the book.
He took it to a quiet corner of the ruin and pulled out his Purah Pad. Curious to see what he was doing Four followed him. Gartan meanwhile pushed himself to his feet and sighed.
"Maari, why don't you come do a perimeter check with me," he urged, turning away from the fire and walking out of the circle of firelight.
Wordlessly Maari followed and soon the two of them had walked a small distance from the camp.
"I hope you can help us get to the bottom of these kidnappings Maari. But why don't you ask the question you really want to ask?" Gartan asked, giving Maari a reassuring smile.
"I'm afraid to ask. The fact that you've been away for so long makes me suspect what your answer is going to be." Maari sighed, looking up at the trees overhead as she walked.
"You'll always be afraid if you don't ask the hard questions Maari."
"Alright. Have you found any sign of mum?"
"Did you ever wonder if Karu and I had been away so long because we were following a lead?" Gartan uttered.
Maari's eyes flared wide and she had to take a deep breath to keep her heart from pounding.
"You found something? Something about mum?"
"That notebook wasn't the only thing Karu found. We ran into some Yiga disguised on the road near the Crenel Hills. Only a few soldiers trying to move supplies. Once we dealt with them we looked through their manifests, which were not written in code. There was a name of a commander written at the top. The person who seemingly had ordered the movement of the supplies. The name was Commander Melyn."
"Mum," Maari whispered to herself.
"Of course, Melyn is not an unusual name," Gartan continued.
"But it is a Sheikah name," Maari pointed out.
They had come to a stop in a circle of sunlight between the trees. Father faced daughter as she looked up at him, a glimmer of hope growing in her eyes.
"Yes, it's a Sheikah name."
"But if her name was on the list... Then she's..." Maari stumbled over her words, as her thoughts rushed by too fast for her to comprehend them.
"We don't know what it means. It's one clue that lead us to this camp." Gartan replied, still speaking in a slow measured tone. "The manifestent mentioned they were moving the supplies to the old Yiga hideout in the Gerudo Mountains. We wanted to check a few more hideouts before coming back. I didn't want to bring back news without following it all the way to the end. I didn't want to give you false hope when you couldn't come and help."
"The Gerudo mountains?" Maari asked. "The heroes are travelling to the desert to find Zelda. Perhaps I could travel with them as far as the mountains." Maari was almost talking to herself now.
"No Maari, it's one thing travelling and fighting in a group. But alone, against the Yiga, as your father I can't allow..."
Gartan was interrupted as two of the boys came crashing through the trees towards them.
"Twi, Captain? What's wrong?" Maari asked, as the two young men approached them.
"It's the Old Man. He got itchy feet waiting for you to come back and ran off." Wars explained, gesturing over his shoulder with his thumb.
"Where would he...?" Maari started to ask. Then she remembered how interested Time had been in the temple ruins. "No wait, I can guess where he went."

Glory To Master Kohga: The Final Boss
Okay, so before going into this: Spoilers. I'm literally talking about the end of the Yiga Clan quests and what is nearing the end game of Tears of the Kingdom so please, bear this in mind.
Alright so, let's go over what we know about Kohga. He's an incredibly fun character, displaying a fresh new take on Zelda related villains as former Sheikah members that felt betrayed by the royal family and turn to Ganondorf instead because "Hey. We sealed you away and they said they wanted us to destroy all our super cool advanced technology cuz they were scared so we're going to worship you."
Honestly? Fair. I don't even fault the Yiga for the bitter retort. Even so, to have held such a hard grudge for over 10,000 years is insane!
10,000 years. It has been 10,000 years since the First Calamity and longer since Ganondorf was sealed away.
Given that the Sheikah had Camel and Elephant Gundam, I would say their technology had vastly advanced over their time between Ganondorf being sealed and the First Calamity.
But refocusing on Kohga: Kohga is the leader of the Yiga Clan. He is, in BOTW, a rather lethargic character. While he does mobilize forces as soon as Link's awakening has been confirmed, he is rather comically unprepared when the Hero storms into the base to retrieve the Gerudo's sacred Lightning Healm.
At the end of this fight, Kohga plummets, by his own hand, down a bottomless pit, which is later to turn into a chasm in TOTK.
Perhaps this was just a happy coincidence, until you remember another bottomless pit from BOTW. I'm talking about the tower we can see Kass standing on. AKA the Gerudo Tower, this tower is one that is never climbed. In order to truly climb this, the Player would need to either spam Stamina Potions/Foods or otherwise have an upgraded stamina wheel.
Like me, most players abused the ability to glide to it from a higher point.
This bottomless pit, now Birida Lookout Chasm, leads the player into the Depths near the Yiga Clan Depths base.
But what does all this mean? It means Kohga not only led the Yiga into the Depths but led us to it as well!
So how? How is Kohga being the final boss?
I bring in Subject T, AKA The Triforce. If there is one thing about the LOZ formula, it is threes.
Three bearers of the Triforce.
Three sacred dragons.
Three people needed to HEAL Princess Zelda after subjecting herself to draconification, something said to be irreversible. The Triforce would be the one thing that would reverse something like that.
How does the Triforce work? Someone with pure heart is desired a wish. I think Link wished for his wyrm wife to come back home and boom. Wish granted.
With Sonia and Rauru's passing into the afterlife, I think it's safe to say that if–IF the Triforce is out there, it's in the Sacred Realm.
Why do I say this? We've never gotten actual confirmation of the Triforce in the BOTW-Era of Zelda games. We've seen the symbol all over Hyrule and even on the back of Zelda's hand, but her power is only ever referred to as "Sacred Power."
Wait…Sacred Power? Sacred! That's it!
Sonia and Rauru passing on was the final key! The Triforce is in the Sacred Realm!
But wait, how does this deal with Kohga?
Because of his defeat in TOTK.
When you complete the quest, we once again see our favorite Yiga man blast himself off Team Rocket style…up into the dark sky.
That's it!
Kohga, after another humiliating defeat by Link, and bearing witness to the death of his god, Lord Ganondorf, will seek out an ancient relic forgotten even to the royal family of Hyrule with the intention of using it to bring back Ganondorf and bring Hyrule to its knees.
Unfortunately, this is something that often befalls antagonists who try to obtain this sacred relic. They fall to greed.
I think Kohga will go in, intending to bring back Ganondorf, but the power will just be too much for him to resist and ultimately twist him into a new powerful being such as Bellum of the Great Seas, or of Vaati of the Winds.

Congrats!!
If you feel inspired to write botw zelda pining.. (pre calamity?) Unless thats too many details lol
Hello @lunabrush :) I was indeed inspired thank you for sending a prompt in!
A Book of Pining | Drabbles Masterlist
Zelda’s fingers thrummed against the back of the prayer book, her gaze shifting from the words she’d long since memorised and peeking up over the book’s edge to catch a quick glimpse of him, of those dastardly blue eyes as bright as Lake Hylia on a summer’s day, of his unfairly long lashes, of his –
Suddenly, his gaze flicked towards her, blue met green and Zelda nearly toppled from her chair, a furious blush echoing under her cheeks and she shoved the book higher, trying to act non-conspicuous, and pretend she hadn’t been caught staring, oh Goddesses!
A muffled sound echoed from his vicinity and Zelda ground her teeth in shame, this was bad, she was becoming way, way, way too obvious but what could she do, she couldn’t control herself because after he saved her from those Yiga, after she’d apologised for how she’d treated him, after thawing the ice that had sat in a chasm between them; she was left with a whole bunch of mushy feelings that she didn’t know what to do about!
He was just so sweet, he always had a smile for her, he snuck her fruitcake during the long prayer sessions in the Temple, he ran away with her now, into the wild, so she could have a breather, he shared his voice with her, his burdens with her and – “Pst, Zelda,” she looked up to find him suddenly closer, close enough that she could see the freckles on his cheeks from the sun, and he nonchalantly slid another book on top of her prayer one, full of ancient Sheikah symbols – wait what – she looked up to find him winking the cheeky bastard, “I think this will be a better distraction.”

LoZ - Magic in Hyrule
You know, I'd be very interested in seeing the differences in the magics used by the various peoples of Hyrule.
From the Humans, to the Hylians (the Sheikah & Yiga being subcategories of which with their own branches), to the Zora, the Rito, the Gorons, the Gerudos, the Korok/Kokiri, & the Zonai. Even going into more obscure races such as Deku Scrubs, Skull Kids, Yeti/Anouki, Twili (who I heard once were Sheikah adapted to the Twilight), Minish, Mogma, the Wind Tribe (which I think would be a tribe of humans that decided against leaving Skyloft), & even the Occa.
Like, what sort of magic would they all excell at?
Keep in mind, -mancy actually means divination, -turgy refers to shaping, & -magy indicates the practice of magic.
For instance, the Twili would definitely have umbraturgy (shadow magic) & crepuscuturgy (twilight magic; a mix of both light & shadow magic), but I think the Sheikah & Yiga would too. Not to mention, the ways in which each race approaches using their magic would be different.
For instance, I can see the Sheikah & Yiga having magical styles similar to Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, & Fūinjutsu from Naruto. I suppose that Fūinjutsu would technically be a variety of runemagy (channeling of magic via the use of symbols & the creation of charms) though?
Maybe Humans are proficient at potionmaking, alchemy, magical infusion, & runemagy?
Gorons & Mogma would both have access to pyroturgy, geoturgy, & even crystalloturgy (fire, earth, & crystal manipulation magic respectively). I can also see Gorons specifically having a connection to geothurmoturgy (magma magic).
I feel as though the Minish would specialize in some sort of crafting magic as they are sort of the Hyrule equivalent to little helper/household/shoemaker elves. Likely including magical infusion much like humans.
Similarly, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the Great Fairies of BotW/TotK were also magical infusion specialists. Because they don't exactly design outfits, just enhance them.
Kokiri/Koroks, Deku Scrubs, & Kikwi would obviously have chloroturgy/phytoturgy (plant magic), Zora are hydroturgy (water magic), Rito, the Wind Tribe Humans, & even the Hylians of Skyloft having aeroturgy (wind magic). Not to mention Yeti & Anouki with cryoturgy (ice magic).
Not sure what the Lokomo would have though.
Then, there's the Gerudo with electroturgy/fulgorturgy (electric magic), but at the same time, I see the Gerudo, & possibly even the Sheikah/Yiga & Twili also having access to animagy (spirit magic) & animancy (magical communication with spirits). Even the forbidden necroturgy (magical manipulation of corpses).
The Gerudo due to how Nabooru was the Sage of Spirit & the Sheikah/Yiga due to the Sheikah seeming to have a connection to death & the Shadow Temple having been in the Kakariko Cemetery.
Though, I'd also give the Gerudo some power over duneturgy (sand magic) & crystomagy (gem infusion magic).
There'd also be the Links' apparent natural talent with acoustiturgy (music magic). Which, I believe that the voice is the most powerful musical medium due to its more immediate connection to the soul which music magic resonates with on a different level to other magics. Instruments, while still powerful & meaningful with a strong connection to the soul, there exists an ever so slight disconnect that simply isn't as immediately present when singing.
I think that there'd also be something like naturaturgy (nature or wild magic), which I think would be very rare, but can appear in anyone regardless of race. It, by its very nature, is pretty unpredictable. But Wild Link totally has it.
Though, for the most part, the different magics can appear in any race, it's just that certain races are innately predisposed to their race's specific element & those magics tend to simply come more naturally to them, more easily, than other magics.
It'd just be very, very interesting to think about.

" And you, ne vehvi, don’t think I’ve forgotten about you— " Kohga holds up a small bundle for his husband to take. Inside is a specially carved mask made solely for Kamai, along with a pair of Yiga styled earrings that resemble boar tusks. There’s also another present atop that’s suspiciously shaped like a large bundle of bananas. Wonder what that could be.
" A little late to the party with this one… and you don’t have to wear it. " Kohga scuffs at the ground with a foot. " It’s merely symbolic. As you know masks are important to we Yiga, so uh… just wanted you to have one of your own. Lord Gan—" wow, he hasn’t used that one in a while, meanwhile his face has gone a brilliant crimson and the Yiga scratches sheepishly behind his neck in a rare display of… humility, is that?
" Ahem— Kamai, beloved moon to my stars….thanks for all you’ve done for me… a-and for all of us in the Yiga Clan. You’ve helped the Yiga achieve so much with our little alliance. It’s more than I…and all of them, could ever ask for. I’m… uh… well," somehow he’s become impossibly redder, cheeks puffing out like little apples. " You know…glad to call you my partner, partner. "
@mightiestbanana
Ah, the winter feast gift exchange; A delight every year, truly, for the Gerudo King--as it was expected that he should spend more time with those close to him. Which, he couldn't complain about; There was something so nostalgic about curling up with his sisters in front of the hearth, while their Mother read to them.
Naturally, they drank spiced wine and warmed ciders, rather than the milk porridge they used to...but Kamai can't find it in him to mind the little discrepancy.
There is an addition to the family festivities this year, of course.
Namely, his husband: Master Kohga, formerly of the Yiga clan, now merged to the Gerudo community to make the Yiga as a recognized people.
And how odd to think, now, that Kohga hasn't always been a part of this. How seamlessly he blends into their family, trading jokes with Ehani, switching to tech jargon with Reka, helping Mother Bosah in the kitchen and only stealing a few bites before the rest can eat--
It's a comfort in and of itself, the Gerudo King thinks.
When his twin starts to doze by the fire, held securely in their older sister's arms--Kohga asks for a minute of his husband's time; And he is correct in assuming that it is for their own, personal gift exchange.
Of course, the imported silks and painstakingly forged and woven wedding band he'd made pale in comparison to Kohga's gift. He knows the other is fidgeting nervously the longer he stands there, holding that box like fragile glass, too stunned to speak...
But what really puts the icing on this tender moment are the warm, small tears that run down Kamai's cheeks. Wordlessly, he sets the box down, first picking up and inspecting the earrings; His own set is discarded without thought, and those faux boar tusks are set in place, framing his face flatteringly.
Then the mask is lifted, and placed into Kohga's hands while his husband cradles his wrists.
"Will you help me put it on..?" He asks, his voice a quiet murmur, reserved for the two of them alone--and Kamai can't help but lean forward to press his lips to Kohga's forehead, not wanting to be too far from his lover.
Kamai doesn't need help to tie the mask into place; Anyone with eyes could see that. But this moment is special, and he'll be damned if he doesn't make his husband, his love, his songbird feel any less than treasured in this moment.

Here it is, folks: at the moment, the most plot-relevant location in the story.
The Gloom Fountain.
it sits deep in the heart of the Gerudo desert, in the eye of a neverending sandstorm. It functions similarly to that forbidden statue on the edge of Hateno in BOTW, but it doesn’t deal in life force, it deals in… something else. We’ll call it your soul, for simplicity.
At it, you can become sort of… consumed by gloom, in small increments. You trade some of your soul, and in turn, it gives you power. How exactly that manifests depends on the person and their situation, ranging from knowledge of the universe to brute physical strength. The more gloom is a part of you, the less you act like yourself and the more susceptible you become to possession, as well as being physically weak. It can be reversed, but those who are under enough gloom influence for it to be noticeable are likely to refuse help.
little prose snippet under the cut
Ganondorf sat hunched over the table, studying the pieces on the map. Every one of those symbolized a unit of Gerudo or Hylian soldiers. A few were bands of Sheika warriors.
“This is looking grim, isn’t it, my Lord?” Girahim asked, leaning over the child. Ganon silently nodded.
“If I may give my opinion?”
“You may.”
“We would benefit from more alliances.” He said plainly, sitting on the edge of the table.
Ganon blinked.
“As long as allying with us means going against the Hylians, no nation, save the Yiga, would join us in their right mind.” Ganon sighed. “We don’t have enough troops, but it’s just a fact that we can’t get more.”
“On the contrary, my Lord.”
He frowned. “I just said no nation-”
“I wasn’t talking about a nation.” He interrupted, hopping back off the table with a flourish.
silence.
“How would you like to command the monsters of Hyrule?” He asked quietly.
What in Demise’s name is he talking about?
“If you can make that happen, I’d love to see it.” He said dismissively, going back to the map.
Girahim frowned.
“Get a sand seal.” He demanded. “And dress for a sandstorm.”
—-
Ganondorf watched as the deeper he went into the storm, the sand in the air got thinner. Girahim hadn’t given him many instructions for when he was at this point before he was sheathed, just telling him to ‘find the eye of the storm.’ Normally, such vague advice while navigating the desert would be deadly, but he trusted Girahim. He hadn’t steered him wrong yet.
He could vaugely see a structure in the distance, which he figured was a good enough place to start looking. He snapped the reins, prompting his sand seal to speed up.
Once he shored up near it, it was clearer. A sort of alcove of bones, and in the middle, what looked like a broken Hylia statue in the middle of this pool of… something.
it was black and pink, a sort of bulging, gooey looking mass. It was repulsive, but also strangely… mesmerizing.
he hefted the sword on his back out of his sheath, planting it in the ground. Girahim sprung out after a moment, in that strange way he always did.
“Excellent!” He said brightly, looking around. “I wasn’t sure if you would find this place, but it seems we’ve gotten here well enough.”
Ganondorf nodded, looking uncomfortably at the altar. “What is this place?”
“An old shrine of my master.” He said, looking prideful. “The flame is still going, I see. Wonderful. His presence is felt.”
Ganon frowned.
“I thought your master was Demise?” He asked. Why was there a Hylia statue here?
“Oh, it was a monument for the goddess a long time ago, before this bin was even a desert. We made some improvements.” He gestured at it.
…okay. Not too hard to believe, it’s not like churches weren’t marks of who owned the land.
“So how will this help the war?” He asked skeptically, crossing his arms. “It’s not like I haven’t been preying back in Gerudo Town.”
Girahim scoffed. “Your cute little homebrew shrines back there aren’t going to cut it, sorry.” He walked over to in front of the shrine as off to illustrate his point. “I don’t know if this is still common knowledge or not, but there is a reason there are major places of worship for every god.”
Ganon blinked.
He sighed exasperatedly. “Demise and Hylia are both trapped out of this realm, a measure by the creator goddesses to keep them from tearing the place apart for the triforce. You know that. Their hold on this place is tenuous, and the amount they can do to influence things down here is limited.” He paused, looking over at Ganon, who was listening intently. “But- there are weak spots in the seal. Places where they have more influence. They can be anything- objects, locations, hell, they can be people. This-” he smiled fondly at the statue. “Is, I suspect, one of the last standing proper shrines to Demise. The Gloom Fountain.”
Oh.
“So you’re telling me none of the prayers we’ve been doing for thousands of years have made any difference?” He asked.
“They’re whispers in my master’s ear at best.” He said dismissively. “It doesn’t matter. What matters, of course, is that this will make a difference. I imagine he hasn’t been prayed to in years and you are so very… special.” He smirked. “Go ahead.”
He hesitated.
“The gloom won’t hurt.” Girahim insisted. “It’s harmless.”
He took a tenative step forward. Then another. Another, until he was standing directly under the statue. It did hurt a little, a sort of strange aching in his bones, but it wasn’t painful enough to say anything.
He turned back uncertainly, looking at Girahim for some direction.
“Go on, I’ve seen you pray in your quarters. It’s not that hard.” He waved.
This felt too important to just go about business as usual. Nothing else to do, though. He bowed, low enough that he could smell the gloom. It went up to his knees, and it was vile. He was never wearing these pants again.
“Sav’aaq, my master,” he began, feeling almost… watched. “I… come requesting aid in the invasion of Hyrule.”
Silence. There was a thrumming feeling in the air. He believed this was a real shrine to Demise, he’s never felt this close to the god before.
“I wish to command the monsters of the land. We aren’t going to survive if we stay in the barren desert, and the King refuses to lift our banishment.” He paused. Was there anything left to say? “Sav’orq.”
He stood back up.
Nothing happened for two seconds, three, four-
The gloom started digging into him.
He screamed as he was dragged under the pool, and Girahim watched.
—-
For who knows how long, he couldn’t breathe. Move. Think. He just… was. He felt like he was agony.
Eventually, he floated back up to the again shallow surface, ad was met with Girahim, grinning in his face.
He felt like he was empty. Missing something.
“Ah, I forgot to tell you. My master demands a sacrifice in return for power.” He smiled. “But look-” He gestured at the edge of the pond.
He sat up, and there it was. A small group of stals, standing in military formation.
“It worked.” He muttered.
“I told you.” Girahim said back, tightening his grip on the boy’s shoulder.
The first step is done, Girahim told himself. Now we just need to make the boy weak enough for our master to take over completely.

i just wanna say. i cant get over how the yiga clan is both very smart and a legitimate threat, and also really stupid and ridiculous. (spoilers ahead)
like on one hand, they are actually using zonai technology, which is incredible. no one else other than link is doing that, and link was gifted that ability and guided on how to do it. the yiga just... figured it out. the rest of everyone, including the sheikah researchers, are way behind.
but also. they just. let you in if you're wearing yiga clothes. nevermind that three of their hideouts got raided, meaning they should know that link could have stolen a uniform. nevermind that you still have your other gear such as the purah pad on your belt, or your hair is blonde. no need to check your identity its fine.
also they fuckin mark all their hideouts with their symbol??? you know when you're approaching a yiga base cause there's frogs with upsidedown eye symbols everywhere. pretty conspicuous for a clan of ninjas, guys
like they are so smart and so dumb what the hell

Whumptober 2022- Linked Keys Edition
Days 13/14- desperate measures/failed escape and dislocation (+ art/joke)
“Don’t buy bananas from random strangers”, Wild’s warning to the Chain when they first arrived in his Hyrule. Apparently that extended to banana bread as well. While resting at a stable and waiting for the others to return, a seemingly nice lady came by and offered them some of her homemade banana bread. It was surprisingly inexpensive, and it smelled so good, the boys couldn’t help but buy some. It was only later that Sky, Future, Wind, Paint, Ravio, and Mask realized the bread had been tainted with poison, leaving the boys drugged and allowing them to be easily kidnapped. Because the seven of them woke up some time after, tied up and thrown in a cell in some dimly lit underground area, decorated with red paper and an inverted sheikah symbol everywhere one looked; the symbol of the Yiga Clan, as Wild had explained long ago.
Only one thing was on everyone’s minds once they realized the situation they were in: escaping. The problem was, with the way the ropes were tied around their wrists and ankles, hands tightly bound behind their backs, it was nigh impossible to move. The Yiga clearly had enough experience with armed heroes (probably Wild) to know that if they wanted to effectively hold them hostage, they had to make certain that the hostages couldn’t try anything. Even Future’s pocketknife— while luckily not taken with the rest of their weapons— was tucked away out of reach inside the young hero’s left sneaker, and Hyrule’s magic had been seemingly wiped out by the poison in the bread, so they had no way of cutting or burning the ropes to get free, and no effective way of defending themselves afterwards either.
Or at least that was thought to be the case before the boys remembered a certain someone among their number who was an expert at tying and untying ropes: Wind. The young pirate was already attempting to undo his own restraints, having been taught how to escape from most bindings by Tetra in the event any member of her crew ran into trouble with other sailors. The problem was, this knot was one of the more complicated ones, and it was a lot more difficult when one’s hands were tied behind their back. He had to get out… He had to help his friends! But he couldn’t get his fingers around the knot. If he could just see what he was doing— if he could just get his hands at a different angle— maybe he could pull it off. But how could he do that without…
Hurting himself…
He wasn't looking forward to this. He knew it would hurt like hell, and best case scenario, he wouldn’t have full use of at least one of his arms for at least a few days or until Hyrule’s magic was replenished. But he didn’t see another option. The boys had already tried all other ways they could think of to get the ropes off. They were desperate, and Wind seemed to be the only one with an idea. But he would need help… He knew asking Sky or Hyrule to help him do this would be a hard no; in fact they would most likely try to stop him regardless. Paint and Ravio were also probably no’s, and while they probably could be convinced, Wind would never pull it off with the other two arguing against him. That left Future and Mask, who were also known for doing stupid things out of desperation and would probably be Wind’s best bet. He just hoped Future was big enough, because Mask definitely wouldn't be.
“Psst. Future. I need your help.” Wind whispered to the other teen, “I have a plan, but I can’t do it alone.”
“What do you need?” Future whispered back.
“I’m gonna lift my arms up and lean against the wall. I need you to slam into me as hard as you can. With luck, one or both of my shoulders will be dislocated and we’ll be able to get my arms over my head to where my hands are in front of me.” Wind told him. Future gave him a horrified look,
“You want me to—?! Why the hell would you ask me to do that?!”
“So I can untie the knots. Duh. I can’t do it from where I am now, I need to be able to see what I’m doing. Please, Future, this is our only option. The others would never agree to it, so I need your help. I’m not too excited about this either, but I wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t necessary!” Future thought for a moment, but he couldn’t seem to think of a better solution either. He sighed in resignation.
“Fine. But I’m not gonna like it.”
“Neither am I. Let’s just get it over with.” Wind scooted back to where he was almost right up against the far wall. He lifted his bound arms as high as he could behind him, pressing them against the wall. Fuck, this was already painful.
“Want me to count down or–” Future asked. Wind quickly shook his head.
“No, just do it.”. Future nodded in understanding,
“Try not to scream.” He took a deep breath as he repositioned himself in preparation to body slam his friend.
“What the heck are you two doing?” Sky asked, heavy concern in his voice. Neither boy responded. Future was counting down in his head, now trying to prepare himself mentally for what he was about to do.
“Future…? Wind…? Answer the question please.” Hyrule spoke up in alarm.
“Something really stupid, that’ll hopefully get us out of here.” Wind confessed.
3…
2…
1…
A sickening pop was heard as Future launched himself against his friend, slamming his back into the wall. Wind’s vision blanked for a moment. He could manage one single coherent thought through the sheer agony that came from feeling his left shoulder be shoved out of its socket.
Don’t scream. Don't scream. Do. Not. Scream.
He bit his lip so hard in fighting this urge that he tasted blood. He wanted to pass out, or throw up, or both, especially with the sound of someone (was that Ravio?) retching at the sound.
"Shit! Wind, I'm so sorry!" Future cried.
"Wind! What was that?!" Hyrule demanded.
"I can… untie the ropes now…" Wind replied weakly. He blinked a few times, trying to get his vision to clear up. He could see the knot. He knew how to untie this one. It was just taking his fingers a little bit to respond to what his brain wanted them to do. But at last he managed it, even with his left shoulder practically immobile and screaming in pain.
"You're fucking insane, Sailor." Paint muttered once he saw a Wind had gotten his own restraints off.
"Here, get mine next. I'll help you with your shoulder." Hyrule said. Wind gave a dazed nod as Hyrule moved closer, allowing Wind to undo his ropes as well. Now that his own hands were free it was a bit easier, but still he had to hold back tears as he did. His shoulder hurt so fucking bad… It felt like a hot, serrated knife had been lodged into his bone (which unfortunately Wind did have experience with, during an incident with another group of pirates a while back).
“There we go. Okay, just hold still, Wind. Here, bite down on this.” Hyrule said as calmly as he could given the circumstances, as he removed one of the straps that normally held his sword and shield to his back, coiled it up, and handed it to Wind, “I’m not gonna lie to you, this is really gonna suck since I don’t have any potions or magic. But just try to tough it out, okay?” Wind nodded, leather strap tucked tightly between his teeth as Hyrule placed his hand against Wind’s displaced shoulder.
“On three, I’m gonna push it back into place. Keep biting down on that thing, it’ll help with the pain. One… Two…” Hyrule didn’t even wait until three before he gave a mighty push, popping Wind’s shoulder back into place. He had tried to keep his teeth clamped on the strap, but as another wave of pain washed over Wind, he felt it fall from his mouth as he gasped, feeling his head spin sickeningly before he blacked out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Wind?”
“Sailor, can you hear us?”
“Oh fuck, that hurt so fucking bad…”
“Yep, he’s back.” Future said.
“Good. Now we can get out of here.”
“Wait, but what about the rest of the—” Wind started to ask, sitting up so fast that Hyrule instinctively stuck a hand out behind him to catch him if he passed out again.
“I was able to get Future’s knife and cut the ropes while you were out. Figured that would be better than making you untie all of them.” the healer explained.
“Oh. Thanks.” Wind only just realized that his legs were free now too.
“Now we need to figure out now we’re going to get out of this place…” Paint muttered.
“Yes please, I really do not like enclosed spaces.” Sky agreed.
“You know… Wind, Mask, and I are all pretty small. I think some of us might be able to squeeze through the bars.” Future suggested, “But we’d need someone who can pick a lock.”
“Please, have you forgotten who you’re with? I’m a pirate. I could pick a lock in my sleep. Gonna need to borrow your knife, though, Future.” Wind held his hand out.
“Are you sure? Your arm—” Future started to ask, though still handing over the knife.
“It’s just a little sore. S’long as I don’t move my shoulder too much, I can manage. I think.” Wind winced slightly at the last part, but took the blade and approached the bars, sticking one leg through the gaps. Then an arm. He could just barely fit, but he could fit nonetheless, and he was able to slip through, “Gonna need someone to keep watch for those ninja guys while I’m out here.” He warned.
“I’ll watch your back.” Sky offered.
“Thanks Sky. With luck, I’ll have us all out before you know it.” Wind began fiddling with the lock, digging the point of Future’s knife inside as a series of small clicking sounds could be heard. About a minute later, the lock popped open, and the bars slid upwards to create an opening for the heroes to exit through. However, not even two seconds after the seven of them stepped out, a small whimper came from behind them, the voice belonging to Mask. The other five boys turned around to see a Yiga footsoldier holding a sharp, curved blade— a sickle— to Mask's throat. Mask was frozen in fear, tears streaming down his cheeks with his eyes shut tightly as if that could help him ignore his current predicament.
"Don't move!" The Yiga ordered, "Or I slit the little one's throat!"
"Let him go!" Sky demanded.
"Silence! You may have slain a god, Hero of the Skies. But you are in no position to make demands at the moment. Unless you wish to see this child's life cut short, I suggest you do as we say." Several other Yiga appeared, one grabbing ahold of Hyrule and one grabbing Wind, dragging him towards the one holding Mask, "You will get back in your cell, and we will take these three." The last, a Blademaster, stood behind the remaining four, shoving them back towards the cell as the three footsoldiers pulled the youngest two and the healer down the hallway.
"Stop! Where are you taking us?!" Wind demanded.
"Quiet, child!" The Yiga who had him by the arm thrust his knee into Wind's back, knocking him to the ground before roughly hoisting him back up to his feet by the back of his shirt and bandanna.
"According to Lord Nihrie, this one's blood could resurrect Ganon in his own time. I wonder if it might do the same for Calamity Ganon here…?"
"N-No! Please!" Hyrule begged.
"It doesn't matter if he can or can't. As long as we have these three, the others wouldn't dare try to escape again." The three boys were suddenly thrown into a different cell elsewhere in the hideout, the door slammed shut behind them.
"No funny business from you three either, got it? We'd hate to have to kill you before Lord Nihrie's assigned date of your execution." The Yiga's laugh faded away as they disappeared, leaving the three boys alone.
Stuck Together pt 1 of 2 (TotK one shot, Link/Kohga Out of Character fluff)
  "I cannot believe I'm stuck up here with you of all people!"    Link didn't reply, only glanced at his unlikely companion before looking over the edge of the rocky pillar they were stuck on. They were on a pillar in the middle of a pit in the Depths, and three masses of Gloom Hands oozed and slinked around, occasionally one rising up to stare back with a baleful yellow eye.      "Yeah well, we're stuck here." Link replied. "I'm out of weapons, arrows, and only have a few fire seeds. Not enough to get past those things or the gloom puddles around them."    Master Kohga groaned. "How did I get into this again?" he said, flopping back on the hard stone.      "You jumped me while I was trying to glide over." Link deadpanned. "Thanks for that by the way, you broke my paraglider."     "I was aiming for your neck." Kohga muttered. He looked down at the roaming hands. "Goddess, those things give me the creeps."    Link just hummed in thought. After a while, he spoke. "Why haven't you tried throwing me over the edge, anyway?"    Kohga sighed. "What good would it do? I still couldn't get away from all those things. Figure survival's more likely with you around, as much as I hate to admit it."      "Huh, so it's not because you're sweet on me?"    This made Kohga sit up sharply. "What?! NO! How did you get that idea?!" Link gave him a sly grin, one that oddly sent a tingle up Kohga's spine. "You're so obsessed with killing me, I kinda thought something else was going on."    Kohga groaned. "Goddess, no. Look it's all part of the Yiga clan's plans, okay? Get rid of the hero, be evil, that kind of thing."    Link just hummed again. He heard a soft sound and looking over, realized Kohga had removed his mask. The Yiga leader caught his look.      "What?"      "Nothing, just, I don't think I've seen you without your mask before."      "Lemme guess, you'd rather I keep it on?" he said, shoulders slumping in a familiar rejection.    Link looked away, a faint pink coloring his cheeks. "No, actually. You can keep it off." He admittedly hadn't expected the older man to be so, dare he even think it, good looking.    Then again, I guess technically we're not too different in age, he mused. Kohga let out a soft scoffing laugh. "Heh, I'll take that as a complement. But I'm no princess, I bet."    Link's face grew redder. "She's... not really my type." he muttered. Kohga looked at him, eyebrow raised.      "Really? With the way you stick to her like you do, I thought you were in love or something."    Link turned his back to Kohga, wrapping his arms around his knees. "She's a friend, and I'm expected to stay close to her. Part of the job. I mean when I first started, she hated my guts almost as much as you do. Wasn't until I saved her that she saw me as more than an annoyance. But what can I do? I didn't exactly have a choice in this job."    Kohga picked up his mask again, running a thumb over the painted symbol. "Yeah, I know that feeling. I wasn't really given a choice, either."      "What? But you started the Yiga Clan, right?"    Kohga scoffed again. "Please, all I did was give them a name and a new mission. Everything else has been in place for generations. If I had refused to take over, I would have been killed as a traitor." He stared out over the Depths, into the murky dark. "I, I don't really hate your guts, you know." he finally said. "Again, it's part of the job. An act."    Link turned, looking at him over his shoulder. Giving in, he scooted a little closer. "What would you be doing, if you weren't in the Yiga clan?" he asked. Kohga shrugged.
Regarding a previous ask, I would love to read about Master Kohga actually getting transformed into a Lizalfos. Cil has to cope with his fear, Sooga has to keep the clan together, and everyone has to work together to figure out a way to turn their beloved Master back.
This is a fucked idea. Let's go
"Heey, Sooga Booga! Listen wanted to see how it's going-"
"What did you just do?"
Sooga was handling some paperwork in his room, when Von called him on his slate. Sooga didn't even have to look at him to know something happened. A simple mission to check out a new piece of Sheikah tech, easily complicated by Von. He never put anyone in harms way, he just tended to break tech and what have you. Von fumbled with his hands, clearly not wanting to explain, but knowing he had to.
"Okay so-i dunno what happened EXACTLY but uh. Something happened to Kohga, and you need to get here right NOW."
Sooga never bolted out of his room so quickly, using the slate to track his specific location.
"Is he hurt? Where is he?"
"No no no! He's not hurt, you just. HAVE to be here, I don't have the words for what's going on."
"Already got your location. Stay put, do NOT let him leave your side."
Sooga was there in a second. The location wasn't a shrine, but rather, a sort of Shiekah lab, long abandoned by time. Kohga was told about this, and insisted he go investigate, with Von volunteering as his guard. The door was open, and Sooga let himself inside. It LOOKED like the inside of any normal shrine, aglow with energy, albeit a bit faded. Sooga knew exactly which room they were in, he could sense them. He pushed the door open to a large room. He shut it behind him, just in case, and nearly jumped as Von grabbed his side.
"Sooga thank Ganon you're here-"
"Where. Is. Kohga."
Sooga was NOT a happy camper. Von pointed to the corner of the room, where it seemed to be oddly barricaded, as if it was keeping something in. Before Sooga could go look, Von held his arm in a tighter hold.
"Before you see him. You need to know he's...not himself. But that is, in fact, Kohga."
"Enough of your vagueness."
Sooga was usually more patient, but the idea of Kohga not being safe, made him rather blunt. He shrugged Von off his arm, and went to the barricade. He moved it all to the side, and didn't see Kohga. But rather...a lizalfo. A red one. Sooga drew his blade, only for Von to jump on his arm, pulling him back.
"No no no! THAT'S Kohga!"
"I don't LIKE your games, Von."
"Sooga, look at my face. This is the 'Sooga is going to fucking kill me' face! You KNOW I can't fake that!"
Sooga had to give him that. This would be very off brand from his usual fare of pranks.
"Alright. Prove that this is him, then. Because I'm convinced he got hurt, and you're using this as some sort of front."
"I'm not! Look, I can prove it!"
Von pulled a piece of dried fish from his snack pouch, and offered it to the creature. Sooga was expecting to see it devour the piece, only for it to roar, and smack it out of Von's hand. You couldn't teach a lizalfo to do that, not in a million years. Von wasn't done. He pulled out a banana, and held it out to him. The creature seemed enthralled, grabbing the banana and devouring it quickly. Sooga took a longer look at the creature. It WAS rather...well fed, suffice to say. Then he noticed the yiga symbol, plastered on his side. It was too perfect to be natural camouflage.
"Alright. This is Kohga."
"Oh thank Ganon you believe me, I-"
"Explain HOW this is Kohga."
Von motioned to the space around them.
"Sheikah tech. I got curious, was gonna push a button, Kohga pushed it for me, got turned into this, ran in here, and I had to trap him in the corner. Then I called you, and now we're here."
Sooga was ever the calculated kind, having a plan for damn near anything. He inspected Kohga for a moment, before nodding.
"You stay here, find exactly WHAT did this. Call Robbie and Purah, have them see if they can figure this out. I'm going to take him home, where he can be comfortable until we can figure out what's happening. Now, we may have to sedate him some-"
The lizalfo tackled Sooga in what he thought was an attack, when in reality, was Kohga needing a cuddle. Monster Kohga was affectionate, it seemed. Sooga groaned as he stood up, holding the surprisingly heavy bundle in his arms. He turned to look at Von.
"You are NOT off the hook. You shall be dealt with after this is handled. Do you understand?"
Von nodded. He looked terrified, but his eyes never left Kohga.
"I don't care. I just. Want Kohga back."
Sooga would give him one thing. He cared, and took responsibility, same as any Yiga would. He was in the clan in an instant, in Kohga's room. He definitely remembered his bed, jumping off of Sooga in order to fumble wildly in his sheets, practically cooing in comfort. As long as he wasn't agitated and away from any danger. He waited until he seemingly fell asleep, before poking his head out of the room. He whistled at Cil, grabbing his attention.
"What is-"
"I need you to stay in here, and watch Kohga while I'm out for. I don't know how long. And he CANNOT leave this room."
Cil looked confused, before folding his arms over his chest, rather smugly.
"What? Is he proving to be too much to handle?"
"Actually...sort of. Look, this is tough to explain, but we have a situation. Close your eyes. Come inside."
"It's what he's gonna say in a minute."
"Cil."
"Fine fine, I'll play your game."
Cil closed his eyes, and walked into the room. Sooga locked the door behind him, not wanting him to dash out the room and cause a panic. It's not a problem until it becomes a problem, if that made any sense.
"Don't panic."
"Can I just fucking open my eyes?"
"Yes."
Then Cil opened his eyes. Kohga had wonderful timing, poking his head out of the covers so his face was but an inch from his own. Cil IMMEDIATELY screamed, jumping back till his back hit the door with a thud loud enough to make him wince.
"WHY IS THERE A FUCKING LIZALFO IN-"
"Because it's Kohga."
Cil turned from his spot on the floor, nearly growling at him.
"If this is a joke, I don't LIKE IT."
"Cil if I wanted a joke, I'd ask you to pull down your pants. This is, unfortunately, very serious."
Cil looked offended by the comment, but more scared of the monster in the bed, looking at the both of them curiously.
"You're not one for pranks, even when Von puts you up to it...you're SURE this is him."
"I know Kohga better than anyone here. This is him. It's a Von type situation."
"That. Explains a lot, without explaining anything."
Sooga helped him to his feet, as his knees seemed to have buckled. Cil and lizalfos...didn't get along. In battle, it wasn't a problem, but in situations like this? The fear was crippling.
"So, now that you know that this is Kohga- will you watch him for me?"
Cil hesitated. Clearly he didn't WANT to. He looked at Cil, as if begging for help, only for Sooga to shrug.
"At least you finally get him all to yourself, at least until I figure this out."
Cil hesitated, before sighing.
"I'm almost pissing myself- but my duty is to Kohga, regardless of his state. I will watch him. But I will NOT like this."
"Good man. Call me if anything goes wrong, do NOT leave this room, and he likes bananas, not fish. It's Kohga still. Just. Different. Scaley-"
"Shut the fuck up and go fix this, please."
Sooga nodded, going to the door to leave, only to turn around and look at Von.
"Also. Because I know you- don't take any of his things."
"What would I even take?"
"His underwear, his socks- just. Don't, I need to check with Von."
As soon as the door closed, Cil realized, he was absolutely stuck. The lizalfo studied him for a moment, eyes going this way and that, studying the surroundings.
"I've never been so flaccid in your presence."
Him speaking seemed to trigger the creature, as it let out a loud roar, before pouncing on him and sending him to the floor.
----------------------------
"So, we got good news, and we got bad news."
"I don't like bad news."
"It's how science works, Sooga. Now pick one."
Soogs sighed. Purah and Robbie were people he trusted, but at the moment, NO ONE was in his good graces.
"Fine, bad news first."
"Alrighty-bad news. I got NO clue what the hell this machine does. Just that it did what it did to Kohga."
"Lovely. Good news?"
Purah butted in, holding her signature pose.
"It's temporary! In this state, it didn't have enough power to give a full blast. It was it's last hurrah sorta speak. So it'll go away on its own!"
"Any estimate as to how long?"
Robbie twirled his pencil in his fingers, tapping his chin, clearly in calculation.
"Not a clue. Could take a day, a week, a year. Just that it's not forever. If we take this to the ol' lab though, we might be able to get more results."
"So be it. Von can carry it for you, it's a trip. And when he's done, he is to follow me back home. I need to check the situation back at base. Thank you for your efforts. Purah, Robbie."
He poofed back to base, and went to their room, only to find his door open. Oh no. He looked around quickly, and thought about tracking the scuff marks and-
"HE'S EATING ALL OF KOHGA'S BANANAS!!!"
Or he could just follow the sound of screams. He immediately dashed to the kitchen, and it was HELL. Yiga's were scrambling to keep Kohga from eating, drawers were broken and thrown about- and somehow, there was a fire in the corner. He locked eyes with Cil, and amidst the chaos, could only say
"I panicked."
Lovely. A blade master lifted his blade, about to strike Kohga, only for Cil to jump in front of him.
"No! You don't understand, you cant-"
"If you rather side with the monster, you'll be TREATED like one!"
Cil froze as he raised his blade, only to watch as the blade master was suddenly thrown back. A blue shield. KOHGA'S blue shield. Kohga crawled on his new feet, slowly, scales puffed out and lips forming hisses and snarls. For one reason or another, he was protecting Cil. Sooga stepped in, holding his hands up as he made his actions slow, careful.
"It's okay. You are safe. Cil, is safe."
Kohga studied him for a moment, before grunting, and laying on the floor, body coiled around Cil's legs (despite how much he CLEARLY didn't like this). The blade master looked at Sooga, clearly at a loss. He was about to explain, when Cil, absolutely on edge from having so much contact with a lizalfos all day, just busted like a damn.
"VonsomehowturnedKohgaintoalifalzoandwedunnohowtofixitandhelpmeimalmostpissingmyself-"
Sooga nodded, cringing at how Cil was CLEARLY uncomfortable.
"Yeah that. Sums it up. But we have good news. This is temporary."
"How long?"
"Could take minutes. Or...even years-"
"YEARS?!"
Cil crying out even made Kohga jump, and Sooga shrugged.
"Robbie and Purah are working on it. We're hoping for something more concrete, but we cannot be sure. So...for now, Cil is in charge of Kohga, since apparently HE'S now the favorite one. I can't even be upset, this is funny."
"I hate you. I fucking hate you. I hate this. The one time Kohga wants to touch me and he's covered in scales-"
"Take it you're not gonna tell anyone else, Sooga?"
"Absolutely not. For now, it's just the four of us. Close down the kitchen, make it seem as though you've taken care of the monster already. If he's not fixed by tomorrow, we WILL tell everyone, make accommodations."
Cil threw his arms up in the air.
"What about ME? He won't BUDGE!"
"I'll get you a pillow. Because you're staying the night, my friend."
Sooga tried not to laugh as he stepped out of the kitchen. It was the only way he could find himself dealing with the uncertainty of this event.
-----------------------------
"Hey....quit movin'"
"Move your scales then."
"What?...."
Kohga looked up at Cil, and their eyes met for a moment. Cil was so overjoyed that no scales were to be seen on his Master, that he plucked him straight from the floor, and into his arms.
"Kohga!!! You're back!!! Oh thank Ganon You're back! I was so worried-"
"Hey, stop yelling. Damn. I'm tryin' to sleep. Ugh, you know what- Sooga!"
Sooga poked his head in the kitchen, clearly overjoyed to see his Master was back.
"Master Kohga. It's...so good to see you again."
"Yeah yeah so is everyone else apparently. Explain why I'm on the floor and not in my bed."
"It's...a story. For now though, would you like a cup of tea, and take a nap?"
"YES."
Cil looked almost horrified as Kohga was plucked from his arms, passed off like a child.
"B-but I spent the entire night-"
"And you did your duty. Speaking of-I know Kohga wants to cuddle, so I will be unavailable for inventory. Do them for me. I will meet you during Kohga's lunch to receive your report."
Sooga felt Kohga cuddle up to his side in his arms, and he tried not to absolutely lose it as he saw Cil standing there, absolutely mortified.
Sooga was just happy they escaped this scaley situation.
Now you tugged my ear one Astor looking into Sky's dreams, spill 🤩
Happily!
Now, since it'll be revealed in the chapter going up tomorrow, I won't be talking about the contents of Sky's dreams, since I actually wrote them out and am quite proud of that bit. (After the chapter goes up I am more than willing to talk about the symbolism in those dreams. I put a lot of thought into it.)
Besides, it's not like Sky is telling Astor the truth anyways.
So, it's pretty obvious that Sky, Time and Four have been captured by the Yiga Clan. Originally, they were captured because Sky had the Master Sword and Astor was curious about that since he didn't look like the Hero that was in the 'visions' he received from Ganon. He does eventually figure out they're from the past, and that interests him too.
Then he catches Sky admitting to Time that his dreams are getting more detailed, and that he's worried that they're actually visions.
Suddenly, Sky is a lot more interesting. Suddenly, Sky is a prophet.
Astor up until this point thought he was the only prophet in Hyrule. But now here's this one. Sweet, gentle, compassionate, annoyingly convincing (Sky spends some time befriending his guards and trying to convince them to stop being Yiga. He's surprisingly successful!), and generally just sort of, soft. Astor figures it'd be easy enough to break Sky and get him to talk about his visions.
Sky is not easy to break, considering this is the guy who killed a god. This doesn't go well for Astor.
The reason Astor even cares is because Sky's visions are, in his mind, from Hylia. (This isn't untrue, but it's less this divine being sending a warning to a prophet and more like she's giving her boyfriend a heads up. It's still a divine vision so it's not clear cut, but it's the intent.) And Astor’s visions come from Ganon. Ganon decrees his victory is absolute, but Hylia likely wouldn't say that. Astor is very curious about what Hylia is showing Sky. He thinks that might make ensuring Ganon's victory even easier.
Sky lies. He lies about his visions. He lies about their origin. He lies looking Astor in the eye. Astor knows Sky is lying, but can't seem to get him to stop lying.
Sky's story is that Hylia has foretold that a Hero would rise to stop Ganon and Astor and the Yiga. This, he reasons to himself, is not untrue. It is not what happens in in visions.
At this point Astor wants the truth less out of curiosity and more out of pride. Sky is being stubborn and remains unbroken and it's pissing Astor off. How dare this twink in a cape make a mockery of him!
He never manages to get the truth out of Sky. This is the kid who killed a god. Nothing Astor tries would make him crack.
