#some have to do with cartoon characters that annoy the heck out of me

❤️ for tintin if you're still doing the unpopular opinions ask game
OH RIGHT THIS GAME! OF COURSE! THANK YOU 💕
❤: Which character do you think is the most egregiously mischaracterized by the fandom?
*deep sigh* The most huh? What if I said Tintin himself? Look, I'm not against fanon interpretations and just going against canon because that's what you like and want to do. However, it gets really annoying when people take some interpretations as canon when it's actually not canon or, even if it is, not in the entirety of canon. And I think a big reason this happens with Tintin is because of the animated series, you know the classic one. Let me elaborate.
For many fans the cartoon series was their first approach to The Adventures of Tintin and for many of them it was a childhood favorite. This alone creates a bias, realizing it or not, especially if you haven't read the comics, the original material. Don't get me wrong, I love the cartoon and it's the most faithful adaptation we have of the comics but that doesn't mean it is faithful. Many scenes were cut, violence and alcoholism were limited to the point of changing scenes entirely (I'm looking at you Crab with the golden claws), heck even the official order of the episodes doesn't match the original publication order. There are many reasons for these decisions to have been made and it doesn't mean they're wrong, they just worked for this kind of media and for their target audience at that time (90s cartoons had many limitations regarding what it could be shown, including violence, but that's how we got artists getting creative with how to depict violent themes in a nonviolent way). Yet I have seen fans taking the ideas of this cartoon as if they are the original ones.
Tintin isn't a goody shoes. Tintin is very kind and caring but also chaotic and with his own values and ethics. He doesn't curse out loud and he represses many of his feelings and anger but he is also very patient and understanding. And most of all HE HAS CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! Tintin from the first albums and Tintin in the last ones isn't the same guy! I understand people liking his character more in the first adventures but you can't characterize him the same in the later albums. And it's not only because decades passed during the serialization and Herge as an artist and writer changed. It's also showcased in the story, Tintin slowly gets stable companions, friends he shares his adventures and even his life and slowly he becomes mellower and yet more open and honest, he likes his peaceful life and doesn't chase adventure unless it comes to him. How can you have Tintin after Picaros behaving like prior meeting Haddock? As if his previous adventures didn't happen and affect him?
And what the cartoon depiction of Tintin does is to take his softer and calmer traits of his character and show them during all his adventures, regardless of how he acted at each adventure. This works for making an iconic and stable hero of a cartoon but it's not like that in the comics. The movie does the opposite but I see more fans accusing it of mischaracterization although this wilder side is also part of Tintin.
So in summary, my annoyance comes when I see Tintin characterized the same throughout all his adventures although this isn't how he is in the comics and I think this is because of the effect the cartoon had on the fans. In my opinion, Tintin's character is hard to grasp and get because he's the two ends of a spectrum at the same time, calm but violent, patient but impatient (his limits are known to himself only, you can try to kill him and not yell at you but you try to kill yourself and he'll make you regret it), selfless to the point of not caring about himself but selfish enough to do what he wants and believes is right etc.
He's such a fascinating character with many layers and it makes me sad when I see people read him as one dimensional character with no space for changes and development. However every person can have their own interpretation and such and I'm not the fandom police here so go have your fun!

With how much Tangle and Whisper meas to you.. are there any specific moments in the comics that made you love them? What initiated that spark? :3
That is actually a really complex question for me...
I would say it's the full package ?
Lemme go a little bit into detail here, i try to split this into two parts:
Part 1 - How they affected my personal life in a positive way
When i first started to read the IDW Comics the relationship of Tangle and Whisper did stick out to me immediately.
I always enjoyed Sonic the Hedgehog as a medium, played the Games whenever they did tickle my interest, grabbed me some merch when i thought it looked nice, i literally grew up with the blue blur. I always looked at it as funny cartoon animals do funny things to annoy big bad Dr. Eggman, because that's what it was for me since childhood.
So when i jumped into IDW it is probably an understatement that i was surprised by it's depth and how all these characters were shown in a different light, a more serious tone, in relatable situations, they have their flaws, their strength, their fears, they suddenly had a wide set of emotions brought into play i honestly wasn't sure for a while if i was reading official Sonic the Hedgehog Comics by SEGA or a really good fanproject.
Anyway, it didn't take me too long until i catched up with Tangle and Whisper.
Back then (early 2021) i was in a really weak position and went through a hard time in life (Still trying to recover from it as you know) and let's just say the Tangle and Whisper Mini helped me to look up and enjoy life again.
Whisper's backstory, losing her team, trying to find a footing in life, opening up to people again, dealing with her own trauma somehow just spoke to me on many levels.
And mixed up with Tangle being the sunshine she is, the bound they formed during the events of the comics, it somehow gave me strength to not give up on myself.
I know this might sound weird to some people that literally cartoon animals helped me to regain my spirit again.
Ngl it did surprise me too, never in my life would i have thought that actual Sonic characters/comics would get me out of that dark swamp i was trapped in.
But life is never 100% predictable. In the end i just embraced it for what it is even if it did strike me a little weird.
So much about my personal experience.
Part 2 - Actual organic LGBT representation that feels natural in it's buildup.
So that is a thing that did really stick out to me a lot while reading the comics.
Tangle and Whisper's bound did evolve very organic throughout the course of the whole comic series, it added depth with the mini series, showed growth through the annual story and their overall interactions with each other while fighting side by side during the metal virus arc.
From being distant to slowly starting to embrace each other more and more, Whisper's breakdown when she found out she lost Tangle to the Virus, tackle hugging her out of relieve that she got her back, ending in a flirty scene even + many more small details, little interactions and be it just Tangle wrapping her tail around Whisper for comfort.
There is a lot of unspoken body language between these two as well that adds a lot to their narrative in my eyes.
Heck even their whole Cover Art Selection for their Mini Series is truly something else.
These two girls gave me such a massive gay/lesbian vibe and they were also so close to each other on the page, that i was actually surprised (Heh, again) when i found out that they weren't pitched that way in the first place.
Like, excuse me but huh !?
Supporting, healing, growing, feelings, baby steps, it's all there.
I was really happy to see a wlw relationship blossom in such a normal way that it felt like fresh air to me. (Back then it wasn't even confirmed yet) Tbh i didn't delve too much into details at that point i just enjoyed the story surrounding them.
A typical case of good written slowburn. And man i love slowburn romance haha
Usually i was used to a lot of subtext till the end (Korrasami for example, it is a good story but was extremely restricted)
Anyway i don't want to make this any longer than it already is, BUT I THINK we could say that all of the above initiated that "spark" for me.
And tbh i am not even sure if my words here give it enough justice at all. Honestly i was never a big shipper for anything in my life prior to these two.
I bet i could squeeze more outta my head but that's honestly already a lot of digging here on my part.

Level 1: Let's-a-go easy with some illuminated Mario!
What I want to explore at least partly over the course of Nintendo-vember is the fact, that Dobson was biased with a capital b when it came to videogames and Nintendo. To be more specific, Dobson not only hated people who played anything but Nintendo, acting like PS3 users are the scum of the earth (which we can see examples of a lot near the end of the month), but he was also very opinionated what counts as “the true and honest” depictions of his favorite Nintendo characters.
Again, something more explored down the line soon, but to give at least one example for how even the slightest “deviation” from Dobson’s own interpretation can result in him getting pissed, only for things to backfire on him in some sense (partly a cosmic one) let me turn back time a bit to the November of 2017.
Almost 6 years ago, it was announced that Illumination, the studio behind the Despicable Me movies and some really shitty Dr. Seuss based works, would head the animation work on Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros movie. And people were pissed.
Tumblr media
Many of them believing that the studio would ruin their favorite videogame character and produce something that was of great disservice to him. And that was something people claimed, before even the voice cast was announced and everyone had a mental breakdown over Chris Pratt voicing Mario.
youtube
For your sanity though, don't click on the vidoe of that fat slob from Boston who is more of a disservice to animation than Live Action Disney is currently
Now to be fair, I am myself aware of the quality of Illumination up until the Mario movie came out. The Despicable Me and Minions movies, plus Secret Life of Pets, having been the most successful endeavors of the company, while also creating some rather annoying, though in my opinion funny cartoon slapstick characters. But honestly, I never thought that Illumination doing the Mario movie, could possibly be the worst thing to ever happen. At the very least, even if the company had fucked up royally with Dr. Seuss related content, they actually have some understanding of cartoon slapstick in their work and can in my opinion create some very colorful movies. And let us be real here, Super Mario has never been the most “adult” or deep franchise on the planet. So as long as Nintendo would keep them on the leash (which they did in the end) I doubted the movie would be utter shit. I at least did not expect it to be the Teen Titans Go of Nintendo, dumb like Boss Baby or unfocused and insulting like Wonder Park.
Tumblr media
And lo and behold, the movie came out and minor things aside (like using Take on me as a pop song in the background at one moment) it captured the essence of Mario, was very colorful and a smash hit. To the point it was up until Barbie came along still the most successful movie of 2023 and is the third highest crossing animated movie of all time. With the place actually being the second, if the Lion King remake from 2019 wouldn’t be technically considered animated. Heck, you could actually call it the most succesful animated movie of all time currently, if you also decide to look at the list in such a way, that "sequels"/continuations ofalready established IPs don't count.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What I am trying to say is, in hindsight, many people should have just simply tried to be calm and see where things were heading.Give Illumination the benefit of the doubt. Particularly if they decided to first think about what was likely going to happen and analyze the pro and cons of Illumination doing the movie.
But fuck using your brain when your name is Andrew Dobson.
Dobson took genuine offense to the idea of Illumination doing the movie and as such made a “mock art” of what Mario would likely look in their art style.
Tumblr media
There was just a tinsy winsy problem with it. The artwork in itself….
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Turned out to be better looking, than most things Dobson did at the time.
Tumblr media
No, seriously. Considering the lack of a decent art output at the time aside of shitting on nerds via SYAC strips, this, for what is obviously meant to take the piss out on Illumination’s art style reserved for the Minions, actually looks rather decent. Sure, Mario looks like a tic tac, but for a “quick” sketch, it looks nice. Mario looks -unlike Dobbear in 95% of the strips- actually happy by the way he smiles as well as very cartoonish. And considering that the blood and soul of Mario is kinda in the cartoonish nature of the game series -as evident by how ridiculously Mario Wonder is currently- Dobson in my opinion captured here the soul of Mario better than he did in other pics he did way back in the earlier 2000s.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though to be fair, these pics look decent enough and at least Dobson was experimenting with different styles back then. Perhaps his cartoonish style would have worked best with Nintendo, if he refined it just right.
Which you know, kinda defeats the “purpose” of the picture if you ask me. I mean, it is obvious Dobson just did it to vent and piss on the fact that a company he considered “inferior” to other animation studios, would bring his favorite videogame character on the big screen for the first time since that Bob Hoskins movie. But if he wanted to mock the idea, he failed. Simply because in his sketch he doesn’t really “highlight” why Illumination being behind Mario would be bad. Not helped by the fact Dobson lacked giving more context why in his opinion that was a bad idea. And the few posts he did, painted him just as hating Charles Martinet and believing Charles would be the main voice of the characters in the movie
Tumblr media
An as stated earlier, in hindsight, any “criticism” or fear Dobson might have had, proved in my opinion invalid in the end. The movie was not only a success, but it also paid tribute to his “precious” Mario is from Brooklyn background.
Frankly, the only thing I can see in the pic I would criticize is that Dobson a) gave Mario four fingers despite the fact he should know by now he has five (though that may be a cartoony jab at the Minions. Though even that jab is half assed, cause if he wanted to emulate their design, he should have given Mario three instead of four digits) and b) Mario being likely completely bald under that cap. The later just doesn’t fit entirely. Which, considering the Minions are mostly bald, may have been the intention by Dobson, to create an uncanny effect. Unfortunately, the rest of the artwork balances it out mostly, so on average the sketch ends up being visually more pleasing than anything.
Honestly though, the picture’s existence does highlight one thing more than anything: That Dobson would rather create something out of spite and hatred, rather than a genuine sense of enjoyment. That and if Ilumination being announced as a company to animate the movie, I wonder how he reacted in light of the casting or other Mario related news. Like can you imagine how livid he must have been when Mario+Rabbids by Ubisoft was announced and became popular?

There's a great handful of robot characters in this series, and let's just omit Metal Sonic for a moment because it would be too easy to say so right away, and I'll draw attention to a few others first:
Tumblr media
E-123 Omega. Ever since his first appearance, he's just been a fantastic character. He's got bloodlust, he craves destruction, he thinks organic beings as "meatbags", he wants to prove he's the most superior of Eggman's creations, but he's also on the good guy side, will step up for his squad, has surprisingly good insight on things, and while blunt because his programming doesn't allow for much empathy, he's still been solid support for Rouge and Shadow over the years. I really think he's probably one of the few characters that's stayed the same fundamentally since his debut.
Tumblr media
Orbot and Cubot. These two are a set, do not separate. They're silly, cute, funny and have a really fun design gimmick. Modern henchmen robots that feel like a love letter to those of the 90s. I really like that they've branched out from being in the game continuity to also the Boom Cartoon and even the comics.
Tumblr media
E-102 Gamma. Walked so Omega could run. Compelling story of having his internal power source be self aware enough that his goal was to destroy his robot brethren and break down so that the little comatose birds inside them could be set free. Omega seems to hold his elder "brother" in high regard, as one level results quip in "Sonic Heroes" has Omega mention "Even I couldn't beat Gamma or Beta.", so there's that too.
Tumblr media
Emerl. Oh man, how many of us early 2000s Sonic Fans still have emotional PTSD from that storyline? Especially in the original anime, not the 4Kids dub/edit? His last action before self destructing being that he used his ability copy one more time on Cream, saw her cry and just starts leaking oil out of his eyes.
Tumblr media
Tails Doll. Yes, he's a robot. He might be probably the most well known obscure character on this list, and is entirely written based on a bunch of precursors to creepypastas in the late 2000s, but he's cute and actually really good to use in "Sonic R", as long as it doesn't start snowing. I used to main as him, lol.
Tumblr media
Belle and Motobud. Relatively newish characters in the last few years, but a puppet based robot and a friendly badnik, I really like this dynamic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Omochao! I know he's probably one of the most hated characters in the series due to his annoying tendency to be an obvious tutorial character, but I actually really like his design and how many times he's gotten me out of a tight spot in some of the games where he actually has a hit box. I've had him smash incoming robots while zooming to get into view, have been able to throw him through laser gates to bypass platforming to unlock areas, have used him as an instant deadweight to get to the bottom of water faster for timed levels, and appreciate his bright colors for being eye-catching enough for me to find out my next pathway.
Also, the unlockable Omochao Gun in "Shadow the Hedgehog" is OP as heck, you literally can't lose with it. Absolute Chad move.

So this year, we're getting yet another GHOSTBUSTERS movie in the re-rebooted franchise, and a new Star Wars feature film looks to shoot later this year for a penciled-in May 2026 release.
I see a lot of skepticism on the internet over these particular developments, and I think a lot of it is rooted - in some way or another - in a legitimate concern. It seems most of the consensus on GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE, and its 2021 predecessor GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE, is that it's taking a simpler property way too seriously. Treating it as if it's some serious legacy franchise, that has to be honored to the letter. Like it's... Star Wars!
I have yet to see GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE, I'm actually really not that big of a Ghostbusters person. I had seen the first movie a while ago and thought, "Yeah, that was kinda cool." But that's about it. I didn't remember it having a presence when I was a kid in the '90s. I do know that there was a cartoon airing on Saturday mornings in the late '90s called EXTREME GHOSTBUSTERS (how of the era!), but I never watched it. So, yeah... Ghostbusters is not exactly my jam, but I do think there is some overreacting going on here regarding this new movie.
I totally get it, though. GHOSTBUSTERS III stalled and stalled and stalled, and then Harold Ramis - Egon - passed away, so Sony/Columbia opted to just reboot it entirely with a different continuity... And with four women playing the Ghostbusters, only to get greeted with nothing but contempt. Regardless of the 2016 movie's quality, it created this aggressively no-nuance situation where it was this ultra-hated movie (for all the wrong reasons) and that YOU - if you weren't a raging misogynist racist asshole - were morally obligated to LIKE the movie... Regardless of what you thought of it, in terms of its quality. Ya know, script, acting, direction, etc. The movie ended up flopping, so there was no future in this team, though they did appear in an IDW-published comic thereafter.
So, Jason Reitman, son of the franchise's co-creator Ivan Reitman, started a "true" third Ghostbusters that took place in the same continuity as the first two movies and brought back the remaining actors to play the Ghostbusters... Passing the baton to a group of kids, two of which were girls. Sort of treating it all as a legacy brand, which I understand can be annoying to those who feel like GHOSTBUSTERS - the 1984 movie - was at its core a small-scale comedy and not this worldwide thing. At the time, I definitely saw that particular movie as spite. A sort of kowtowing to the angry male nerds who honk "WOKE" like a defective goose at everything. But that apparently was not the case during production, it was just... Ghostbusters is a franchise, and in capitalism... Things *must* continue (facetious), even if it's well past its expiration date. An animated Ghostbusters movie is also in the works, which is being done up at Sony Pictures Animation... And me? I think this concept works great in animation, and after all, the cartoons are an important part of the whole thing so... Yeah, I'll likely see the animated Ghostbusters movie. I think exploring that universe in the animated medium might be a fresh spin on a chestnut property. Heck, SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE came off of *three* theatrical live-action iterations of the character, so you never know!
This FROZEN EMPIRE sequel, I'm just indifferent. It exists. Someone will like it, for sure. AFTERLIFE did pretty well at the box office amidst the Delta and emerging Omicron variants of COVID-19. I was working the box office the week it came out, and I had a family come up to me to get their tickets for it... All dressed as Ghostbusters, complete with a homemade proton pack. And I thought to myself, "That's what it's aaaall about."
Tumblr media
Star Wars, admittedly, has gone in directions that I just don't care for. The last movie I genuinely had a good time with in the franchise was SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY, which was already a very safe and workmanlike movie. The cast and old school space western vibe save it. Despite what we now know what it's like to work under Phil Lord and Chris Miller (as made clear by the stories that got out on ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE), I honestly would love to see what their version of that story would've looked like... But, we ultimately didn't receive that movie, so... And of course, I really liked THE LAST JEDI. Really liked how Rian Johnson took the franchise, which was becoming well-worn, and cracked it open and took a look at it with a fresh new perspective. And naturally, it was hated beyond belief, and mostly by the usual suspects... I think such a fervent backlash played a part in how Lucasfilm and Disney went forward with this franchise.
So when THE RISE OF SKYWALKER came out, I also took it as spite. Bowing to the angry assholes who just couldn't stomach that the franchise featured people other than white guys and had something more important to say. I was quite pissed off with how they significantly dialed down Rose Tico into a nothing character, instead they gave more time to this new character - whose name I, no shock, forget - who was played by some friend of J.J. Abrams that won a bet during development... Like, what the hell was that all about? Also didn't care for a number of things that just got... Thrown at you. It felt like it was made in panic mode, a Disney-mold please-all movie to end the sequel trilogy and the entire Skywalker saga as a whole. I could go on and on, but I wasn't necessarily upset with developments like "Rey is actually related to Palpatine"... They just come too late and are super-undercooked, all of it in one 2 1/2-hour movie that was following two movies that were saying and building up to something entirely different. The death of Carrie Fisher certainly didn't help, either. I didn't hate THE RISE OF SKYWALKER per se, I was left feeling "whatever"... Like... What the hell was that?
So I didn't bother with THE MANDALORIAN and anything else thereafter, in terms of live-action. And it appears that the Mando side of things informs the franchise going forward. The new movie is called THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU, and that just tells me everything I need to know. I'm curious about the movie featuring Rey 15 years later, that's to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. James Mangold could possibly make something cool out of his ancient Jedi movie, but... Honestly, it's all a big bag of "who cares" to me. With a universe so big and wide, with all kinds of planets everywhere... why does it always have to be about the Skywalkers, the Jedi, etc.? Just give me a Disney+ National Geographic-style documentary about banthas, that would be infinitely more interesting to me. That's why STAR WARS: VISIONS is on my watch-list, like... Enough about the Skywalkers and the Jedi already...
But, Star Wars is owned by big bad Disney. And Disney is going to milk this franchise until audiences collectively get sick of it. Sure, there has been plenty of Star Wars media made before the Disney buyout of Lucasfilm: Comics, video games, novels. It's always been around in some way or another, but I feel Disney just doubled-down on it. Probably because of the abundance of movies made and the amount of shows they're cranking out.
And then I try to place myself in 1977, when STAR WARS first came out. The original movie, before any sequels, before any TV specials, before the added "A NEW HOPE" subtitle, etc....
STAR WARS, alongside Steven Spielberg's JAWS and CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, are often seen as the end of "New Hollywood" and the beginning of the blockbuster era of Hollywood... And yet, STAR WARS was being made before that all really took off. When George Lucas and his crew were planning and shooting what would become the first movie, how they would they have known what kind of monster it would create? Not just the Star Wars franchise as a whole, but the blockbuster in general. JAWS was the only "blockbuster" at the time of this movie's making, having grossed over a record $130m domestically in 1975. In 1976, the highest grossing movie was ROCKY, with $55m. STAR WARS was one of those movies where it was looking like it was going to be this big mistake, this big flop. Who in 1977 wanted to see some pulpy kid-friendly space adventure movie? By late 1976, the movie industry was still in the era of adult auteur-driven films. Dramas, political thrillers, and smaller pictures that would be called "prestige pictures" today. Films that would struggle to make $50m domestically in 2024, let alone be released in theaters. It was the era of THE GODFATHER, TAXI DRIVER, DOG DAY AFTERNOON, THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR, etc. Isn't it something that those kinds of movies were once regularly the biggest hits at the box office? And you wonder why Martin Scorsese voiced his concerns about Marvel movies...
You look at STAR WARS, and it is indeed part of that waning era of American cinema. At first glance, it's a kids' space adventure movie featuring a WIZARD OF OZ-esque band of weirdos, where people fight with laser swords and there's ships flying around... But it's actually, through and through, a 1970s movie. It's informed by Lucas' politics, the Vietnam War, the Richard Nixon administration... And to think that people complain that the franchise had gotten too political or too "woke" under Disney's ownership? Don't make me laugh.
In a way, you kind of come to realize... Well, this little space movie from the 1970s somehow became the highest-grossing movie ever for a period of time (Steven Spielberg's E.T. took the record in 1982), it spawned two sequels and a few TV specials and cartoons... And tons of comic books and novels and toys... And then three more movies, and more cartoons, and more movies, it's now owned by a massive multimedia conglomerate that wants MORE MORE MOOOOOOORE of it out there... And well... Capitalism. It becomes big, new people take it over every now and then, it's soooooooo far removed from the little anti-Vietnam War space movie it was in 1977 that could've gone down as an embarrassing box office disaster and subsequent cult classic.
And then you realize when it's time to get off the train, and quit going after the wrong people, aiming for the wrong targets. In that, the thing wasn't ruined, it's just so big now that it's not its earliest roots. When I see these new Star Wars things that throw in cameos and try very hard to play to fans who want Star Wars done up in a very specific way, I can't get too too angry... Because this whole "Star Wars, the way you've always loved it" thing seems to fundamentally misunderstand what the original movie, NOT the Original Trilogy, was in 1977. Repeating the past, instead of being someone's unique vision informed by the events of the era it was made in. It became a franchise, but it's okay to say when it's time to cap it off and go watch something else.
I extend this to my current gripes with Walt Disney Animation Studios and the majority of Disney's modern movie output that isn't Pixar, 20th Century Studios, and Searchlight. WDAS may never be what it was a few decades ago, it'll certainly never be what it was under Walt's watch. I can gripe all I want about their recent films not entirely doing it for me, but I can still look for the things I like (for example, STRANGE WORLD had some really cool stuff in it, have yet to see WISH all the way through) and hope for the best next time. "The best", as in, a picture I really really dig and cherish. Even if I may not get just that. The reality is, these things grow and balloon way beyond what they started out as, and many different people are now involved, money drives it all, and thus those in charge take it the direction that they THINK is the right direction. It's never easy to guess what it is the audience might want or will like, ya know?
Sometimes things are truly special before they blow up into something else where there's too much money at stake and too many people making what they feel are the right decisions... Sometimes those things can still be special, too...

While I'm somewhat knowledgeable about JTTW, I don't dislike Monkie Kid doing it's own thing and telling it's own story. It allows for a lot of creative liberties when the show isn't shackled to the OG classic. However, I would say the change that is starting to become annoying, and that some fans are starting to take notice on, is SWK's portrayal. Again, I dont mind him being this flawed hero character that makes mistakes. But his flaws are starting to become...overwhelming. Like can anyone recall the last time he did something good or right in this series? Everywhere I turn, the show just points out the pain he causes people. The label of "hero" kinda doesn't fit anymore. And I feel like the writers keep digging a deeper hole with him. He's made so many bad decisions that I hesitate to call him a good person anymore. I think this is also because they use villains from the book instead of creating new villains for MK. So everything ends up being Wukong's fault because those OG villains are tied to him. And I question if this will continue to be the case until the show ends. Anyway, I'm just glad other fans are noticing this particular writing decision and criticizing it.
Monkie Kid spoilers & me being perhaps too mean & ungenerous to a cartoon monkey below so you know keep reading at your own risk aegesfaewf:
Well anon given that one of my favorite JTTW retellings is Monkey King: Hero Is Back on one hand I really have no right to criticize massive changes to the og classic in stories heavily based on Xiyouji sdfrae. ON THE OTHER HAND, when a good portion of those changes pretty consistently have the consequence of the great sage himself being characterized more and more as a stupid failure at best and a selfish asshole at worst (especially in the context of this characterization happening in a goofy lego show about going on fun adventures) it's like...what is sparking these writing decisions. Said this before, but yea for the past few seasons Monkie Kid's story lines has been in this loop of "some villain makes an appearance-->SWK ends up making the whole situation 1000 times worse even if inadvertedly-->Qi Xiaotian gets a lot more trauma-->villain gets exploded at the end which apparently means everything's okay now." And the entire time every character from Long Xiaojiao to the Six Eared Macaque to Li Nezha has some extended scene that's all about them stating with great conviction what a horrible person the Monkey King is. And then the show does very little to refute that. Everything he does, even if he's trying his best to do what he thinks is the right thing, just ends with giving the villain d'jour a massive power-up right up until it's time for the big explodey climax. Qi Xiaotian now seems to have gotten nothing out of being tudi to the Monkey King except having his friends put in mortal danger & routinely getting the tar beaten out of him from yaoguai who have a grudge against Sun Wukong & having his abandonment issues made worse. There is at this point literally not a single character whose life was made better from the monkey king being in it and many whose lives were objectively made much worse as a direct result of interacting with Sun Wukong. And so far, as others have pointed out, the ONLY TIME we got a flashback from SWK about what happened from his perspective was about him screwing up with the samadhi fire ritual and being responsible for the 4th ring getting created. So at this point, especially since only the audience has gotten the barest glimpse of the torture headband & some hint of what turned the Great Sage Equal to Heaven into what's essentially a perpetual screw-up...like why do any of the other characters, especially the members of SWK's former sworn brotherhood, give a single fig as to whether he lives or dies? Heck it wouldn't surprise me if at least a few of them celebrated SWK getting trapped in ink hell world because A) he's seen as responsible for trapping them in there for thousands of years in the first place B) they've finally dealt with the immortal evil betrayer who was responsible for ruining their lives and being an uncaring heaven's lapdog, and C) now he can't blunder around screwing everything up so badly that all of reality gets put in danger. So you know, SWK in ink hell world is a good thing either way!
IDK, I'm probably being too mean about this. Given the actions of other characters Sun Wukong can't be blamed for everything. Maybe things will later on be explained for why he acts the way he acts in a satisfying manner. But at this point the lego show really does seem to be going out of its way to paint Sun Wukong as someone everyone very justifiably despises, and personally I think if a writer for Monkie Kid felt compelled to go on twitter to try to make the Monkey King hate die down a bit then Flying Bark really needs to have a sit and a think as to why a not insignificant portion of their audience was primed to believe the absolute worst about Sun Wukong!

Aaaaaaaannnd it looks like my inevitable biennial Darkwing Duck phase just hit. Apologies in advance. I am probably going to be annoying.
So! Darkly Dawns the Duck:
1. Who do I have to kill to get the original opening scene back in with the rest of the episode? Like. That little action sequence is a perfect way to introduce the character and the show. Almost everything you need to know is right there. Darkwing is a mildly bumbling adrenaline junkie who’s just barely good enough at his “job” to get things done. Also, it’s a cartoon; the violence is made up and the injuries don’t matter. Unless they do.
2. Almost everything you need to know. The rest of everything you need to is in the very next scene where Darkwing is hamming it up, handing glossies to a cop, and lamenting the fact that he spent all afternoon ironing is cape now that there’s nary a reporter in sight.
3. Darkwing narrates his life and monologues to himself. He’s such a tool. I love it.
4. Listen, I’m aware that Tad Stones is very much a Silver Age comics guy, and that this cartoon is completely uninterested in explaining how, exactly, Darkwing pays for, you know, all his very expensive equipment (besides moonlighting as a freelance SHUSH agent from time to time), because it’s just not that kind of show, but I’m interested. (Honestly, the more ridiculous the explanation, the better.)
5. How long did it take Darkwing to put together everything for the breakfast routine? I mean, it’s not as though he has a life outside of being Darkwing, so I guess he’d have time. But still.
6. I always forget Tim Curry is in this. Taurus Bulba is slightly less funny and unhinged than you’re typical Darkwing villain, but he’s honestly half of what makes this intro episode work. He’s a little more serious, so the stakes feel a little higher.
7. Aaaaand Darkwing’s still monologuing to himself. As he does.
8. The fourth wall is paper thin.
9. “Clever of me to use my spine to break my fall.” — Tech Badbatch, probably.
10. More (less?) seriously, last time I hit the inevitable biennial Darkwing Duck phase, I kept trying to find a Darkwing Duck podcast to listen to, and I kept getting frustrated, because the hosts kept talking about this show the same way they would about, say, Batman: The Animated Series or Young Justice. Yes, they’re all animated, yes, they’re all about superheroes, and yes, they all stretch physical reality to some extent, but Darkwing Duck exists in an entirely different genre than the other two. Heck, it’s even in a slightly different genre than the original DuckTales series.
It’s a cartoon—a cartoon grounded by an emotional center in the relationship between Gosalyn and Darkwing—but a cartoon along the lines of the old Looney Tunes shorts nonetheless. Like. No, Darkwing doesn’t have secret superpowers. He gets anvils dumped on his head until he gets over himself every episode because it’s funny. The laws of physics as well as any danger of real physical harm coming to the characters is dependent entirely on the emotional needs of the scene at hand, and the emotional needs of the scene at hand tend to be rooted in comedy. Same goes for continuity. I may or may not be a hypocrite about this at times.
11. So I just hit the part where Darkwing and Launchpad meet and good lord, Darkwing really is a jerk and Launchpad really is a golden retriever.
12. I love how Bulba just casually mentions that his henchmen murdered Gosalyn’s grandpa.
13. Speaking of Gosalyn….
14. Man, I love Gosalyn. I love that she’s kind of a “problem”, that she tends to act out, that she’s a handful, and that she’s clearly upset by having been told that she’s a problem by the adults in her life (by the ones at the orphanage, anyway). She’s an outgoing but clearly lonely kid, and one of the very few kids from any shows from this era that actually feels like a kid.
15. Okay, yeah, I know I just went on a rant about cartoons, but adult me panics every time I watch the part where Gos realizes that Hammerhead is there to kidnap her.
16. Just an observation, but Darkwing is way more…I don’t know, personable with Gosalyn once they get back to his hideout than he was with Launchpad in that earlier scene. He’s still self aggrandizing and sarcastic, but he’s not nearly as caustic. (For now.) I’m honestly not sure he knows how to talk to other adults in a “normal” way when he’s doing the Darkwing thing, which is more or less all the time.
17. Aaaaand I’m reading too much into it now. Back to the funny.
18. I paused and now I can’t breathe
Tumblr media
Look at this idiot.
19. I love that Taurus Bulba just happens to have an airship shaped like his face. In prison. Just because.
20. Photos taken moments before disaster
Tumblr media
21. “You should have seatbelts, too!” Blink twice if the S&P department is making you say that, Gos.
22. That said, it is actually really sweet that Darkwing does end up taking the helmet Gos found when he rides off a few scenes later. (
23. Little girl blue 🥹
24. Okay but WHY did Dr. Waddlemeyer make a Simon Says the control panel for his levitation ray?
25. Man, Darkwing is such an insecure jackass.
26. Listen to the kid, my dude.
27. See? That’s what you get! (Darkwing really deserves the dressing down Bulba gives him in this scene. Also: Does he make funny accordion noises when he gets squished like that?)
28. Why do I get the feeling that if this episode came out today and was a Star War that people would be complaining about how hard it was for Bulba’s hitmen to catch a ten year old?
29. Honestly, I love how they thread the needle of Gosalyn being perfectly capable of handling herself and yet still being a kid who may eventually need help if the problem gets too big.
30. Oh, the jail scene. I’m still annoyed that the most unhinged part of Darkwing’s monologue is missing (the episodes on the DVDs and streaming and elsewhere that I’ve found are the ones that ran in syndication. And, for Darkly Dawns the Duck, that means it was cut in two and chopped up to fit in the syndication time slot, so there are a few scenes missing. The ones I miss most are the opening and part of the jail monologue), but what’s left is still probably the most honest thing Darkwing says about himself the whole show. There’s something about him that’s just. Deeply maladjusted. And it’s great. I love it. 10/10, no notes.
31. Nope, got serious again. Time for Launchpad to bring the funny.
32. Launchpad made a damn stealth plane shaped like Darkwing’s head. Just because.
33. Ah yes, the tried and true Darkwing method of combat: throwing yourself bodily at the enemy and shouting nonsense.
34. I always somehow forget that Bulba just decides he’s gonna murder a kid for kicks. He’s got the code by that point, he doesn’t need her anymore, and he doesn’t need to twist Darkwing’s arm to get anything. He’s just gonna kill Gosalyn. It’s just child murder time. And it feels like Gosalyn’s in danger because, again, the rules of physics apply depending on the emotional needs of the scene.
35. “Mom was right. I should have been a dental hygienist.” That is such a random line and I kind of love it.
36. Sorry to being this back around the The Bad Batch because, again, this show is a completely different genre of animated show, but Gosalyn’s little, “He couldn’t be…,” when she sees the ramrod destroy the top of that skyscraper and take Bulba and Darkwing with it reminded my of the fact that when a child protagonist in a show for children says something like that about a semi or fully parental figure thought to be dead, they’re almost always right. No, I will not let this go. This hiatus is so long.
37. This orphanage director really is just. The worst. “Oh, sorry you won’t through a traumatic life changing experience kid, don’t understand why you’re too upset to talk to anyone today. Your loss I guess.” Like seriously.
38. Yes! The pink shirt and the sweater vest.
39. Darkwing is so aggressively dweeby. 10/10, no notes. Again.
40. I mean, okay, his name’s Drake Mallard, sure, and that’s how he’s introducing himself to the orphanage director here, but. Like. I like both versions, but OG Darkwing is Darwing first, and Drake Mallard second. DT17 Darkwing is Drake Mallard first, and Darkwing second. If that makes sense.
41. Okay, so, I understand that OG Darkwing and Launchpad are sort of the Kirk and Spock of the Disney Afternoon, but I don’t really ship them. I just don’t get the vibe (again, from the OG versions—DT17 versions have a different vibe). That said, I do kind of love the idea that there’s nothing going on between them but that everyone who knows both of them just assumes that they’re a gay couple raising their daughter, and they both know it and are fine with people thinking that.
42. This isn’t how adoption works but it’s okay it’s a cartoon and it’s very sweet.

Today I've seen all of the 8 Sonic Prime season 1 episodes and I must say, I WAS STUNNED.
Watch out! Includes spoilers!
It was amazing! Every universe was a good idea and I felt like I read through fanfictions. Also I felt like every single character was acting like they would do (so no shadow edgelord or dump knuckles).
Everyone had a special part!
Amy had her moment when they were in this wild wood AU (=Another Universe) (btw I dunno what they were called again. I forgot. xD)
Tails had his moment when Sonic was in this world with the eggman empire thing. Same with rouge there.
What I think about the characters:
I really liked how Rouge joined the crew and in my opinion, she should be more active in team sonic. I like seeing her on that team. Even if I love seeing her act in Team Dark, this was a special moment! I liked it when she had her moments with Knuckles. I am not a Knuxouge shipper, but these moments made me smile, 'cause they were acting like good friends.
When I looked at Tails in this wood AU, I was not very pleased, bc he acted like a wild animal. But he was still cute. Nine was the one which reminded me of the fanfiction "where was my hero" and I was really surprised when I saw his spider-like invention on his back!
What can I say about Amy? She was amazing. Even if 2 versions of her were evil, she was still good. I was a little bit disturbed when I saw her as "Rusty Rose" but it was still cool.
Eggman or these other versions of eggman were not really impressive for me. I felt like they were all a part of the scientist. Like in this disney movie: "inside out" So yeah it was a funny idea to have a baby in this, but it kinda got on my nerves. xD
Sonic was unbelievably well written! He cared about his friends, he was like he is! It was so whoaaa! He still had his rivalry with Shadow and the fighting scene was so well animated. I really liked the plot twist, that this all was actually his fault and that he learned to appreciate the moments and memories with his friends in these other worlds.
Gladly Shadow was not really an edgelord like he was before in the games. I cannot describe why I felt like that. He spoke so softly and had not this sharp voice like in Team sonic racing for example. (Btw I am talking about the german voice actor, bc I watched it in German.) What I didn't like was when he had barely any scenes but I am sure that he will get more of it in the future (if there will be a second season).
I mostly had my eyes on Knuckles this entire time (bc he is my fav character in this entire franchise) and felt good while watching Sonic prime.
Since I saw the Sonic Boom Series with "Boom Knuckles" in it, I wasn't sure if this series would make fun of him and turn him into a ... well I would say not a well written character again, but I was impressed that he had his badass moments. Of course there were a few scenes I didn't really enjoy but all in all. It was good as heck.
I really loved the part when he was captain and even if I thought he could never be a good comanda/ leader (bc in my opinion he really messed up in sonic forces) he did a very good job. Even if I hated the start at this Pirate-Universe where he hid when this other ship appeared, I like how it turned out at the end. It kinda scared me how he looked at the part of the paradox prism and I first thought he would turn evil or would betray his crew, but he didn't.
So, now I come to the animation part:
It was very detailed, like the ears were moving when Sonic and the others showed emotions or they walked. It was very cartoon-like animated but what can I say? It's a kids show. I found it kind of annoying when they repeated these whole scenes when Sonic fell down on his face or against the walls but yeah. It's still a show for kids.
Ohhhh and the references with tails code being 1992 or others were really cool.
What also caught my attention was these time skips. It was kind of confusing to understand but it was okay.
And some of the characters had FANGS! Ahhh! ><
I absolutely LOVED these pixel animation parts when they remembered a piece of the past.
Now to put it all into a summary:
It was a great series and I hope they are releasing a second season. ^w^
It was much better (IN MY OPINION) than I thought it would be.

1-4, and 12 for you FNAF s/i I wanna know! :D
EEEE YAY THANK YOU i have slipped HARD into fnaf purgatory and i'm having the time of my life. i wanted to be a fnaf kid so badly but i was too much of a coward but we're out here now!!!
1. what are the basics of your self insert? name, date of birth, height, etc.? (she's a WIP!)
name: kitty reinhart (the only s/i to have a last name!)
alias: bobcat the clown
dob: jan 13th
height: Small (5'2" like me 😔)
college major: clownery
hometown: somewhere in NC, but moved to utah when she was little (for convenience only because that's where freddy's is located)
favorite food: peach pie
likes: clowning, cats, cartoons (especially WB)
dislikes: judgmental parents 🤔, when no one laughs at her jokes
2. when in canon does your self insert come in? do you have a scene in mind for your entrance?
she's always been part of the fazfamily, like mostly through patronage over the years. in 1986, around the time of sister location & fnaf 2, she takes a job as a clown, alternating between locations
3. how do the other characters generally feel about your self insert?
(proud) mary sue moment: they love me! although i'd probably have some issues with some of them. roxy is annoyed by me, ballora and circus baby are suspicious of me (unless i prove myself somehow), the nightmares/phantoms don't really "exist," and i don't have a relationship with the puppet whatsoever
4. would you be considered a main character, side character, villain, or something else?
side character probably! heck my actual role is a side character to the animatronics during their shows 😭
12. how would the fandom view your character?
i honestly don't know if i could tell that yet. i know half the fandom is dead wrong about security breach though 💃💃💃 dni if you hate security breach, BUT i hope everyone would like her. she's one of the few human characters but she is very present among the animatronics so i would love to see (literally i think i'll commission some soon) cute fan art of her and the fazsquad (any of them) hanging out!!!
ask game: self insert lore

Pixar from Worst to Best: #17 Onward
It's definitely on Pixar's lesser half of quality...but I can't hate it. The message about what makes essential family dynamics strong is phenomenal. And the story gets better and better the further it goes, ending on a high note that’s satisfying because of how unsatisfying it is (you're just gonna have to trust me when I say it makes sense). As for the main characters, Ian and Barley have well-written personalities and a great dynamic with each other. I identify a lot with Ian's social and anxious issues, and Barley works as a doofus who doesn't get a lot right, but his good intentions prevent him from being annoying (at least, to me). Their brotherly bond also seems genuine, and I can see how their dynamic can be magical...I can see it. But I don't feel it. Not necessarily. And that's because of the performances. Onward would benefit from having more experienced voice actors in the role of our main leads. Tom Holland and Chris Pratt do fine, but some scenes need more than just "fine." And they need talent that isn't famous for playing Marvel superheroes. It kind of breaks the immersion when I hear the voice of Spider-Man and Star-Lord coming out of these cartoon elves. As for the world of Onward, it is pretty uninspired. Granted, that might be the point given the story it's going for, but aside from a few specific scenarios, Onward could take place in the real world with humans while magic just exists, and nothing would change. Heck, if a writer was talented enough, they could find a way to work around those specific scenarios so it could still take place in the real world. As is, it feels like making the fantasy world with magical creatures that’s near identical to ours seem more like a shortcut than a quirky premise. Although I will admit, it's not on the same level as Cars, where there's no reason to make the movie the way it is. I can see why the writers make this a fantasy world that lost its magic. I just don't feel it. Thankfully, what I do feel is a good time despite the flaws Onward presents. It isn't magical, but I can't help but love it.

Damn, you're so good! I mean, I'm really happy for ya and what you achieved, and it's cute and cool monsuno and especcially Six helped you with it! Also, if you're going to participate in anything again, wish you success! And it would be interesting to look at your art) You're very smart. I have mind of 13 or less year old kid with hyperfixation on cartoon characters, but I'm 20 and I dont know how the fuck I'm still study at 3rd grade of university being studying on budgetary basis. I even began to forget my native language alongside english. And mostly, how to talk. Maybe it's eldery dimension, at 20 years haha.
And about Lucifer series, the one who is Tom Ellis.
Also, Hargrave is only henchman character who isnt trying to both kill their Master and lick their boots, nor isnt one who blindly do something or other name is "choke me harder, daddy" type. Hargrave gets annoyed, tired, but he isnt trying to really do something against Klipse but actually enjoy his company and him and all villian atmosphere. And Hargrave isnt just ass licker but addition to Klipse, more than henchman. He flatters him in villianous way, not in "I love you and going to embarass both of us" way. So even Klipse fine with that and likes it too.
Thank you for your words, it means a lot to me. I’m not that good in art, just lucky. I haven’t really trained myself in art since I never had art classes or had classical training in art, I just watched art things and try to copy it. It’s still cool that I can win so much art awards, but I’m still learning more about art. I’m actually distracted a lot myself so that’s why I’m still learning, but it’s a hard process for me to even want to do art if I can’t find a reason to do art. But with Six and Eira’s family, I am ready to find art references for them to make one heck of an art piece. Well, pieces, Oleander and Arron are in a separate art category from Alex who’s going to be done in acrylic.
Also, I’m in my fifth year in college because I just found out that I’m neurodivergent with my disorder causing some mental issues with attention and doing something worthwhile. It’s not ADHD by the way but I’m just not ready to say what it is, only that it’s involved with dopamine issues. You still have time to graduate and you will when you’re ready. Also, speaking from experience, I originally came from the Philippines and my family are the only Filipino family in my small town, so speaking my language is hard for me too, but only because I can’t do it in full sentences all the time, I can speak a few sentences, but not enough so really I can just understand it. And speaking is hard no matter what, so you’re fine. Don’t be that ashamed because you can learn your language again unless it’s not that easy to learn. You can do this anon.
(I knew it! That’s the Lucifer show!)
As for Hargrave, his character is just a villain‘mom’, but only on their enemies. Like he is just a tired parent with a partner who’s a workaholic with a passion for dangerous things. Yet, Hargrave is fine with Klipse since they both have their boundaries with each other, despite Klipse sometimes putting their family in danger. That’s why they work in Monsuno, they respect each other’s company. I really wish we knew what happened to Hargrave after Klipse got arrested, but it’s all speculation now.

"Roman, what is so important that you and Virgil will not shut up?" I woke up a couple of hours ago, and we were waiting this "Principal Nezu" for a long time now. "Well calculator watch," Roman said annoyed," the thing you made broke, and was actually cool!" I was actually interested. "What do you mean?" "Well," Roman said, "you put us in another universe, specifically the universe of My Hero Academia." "That cartoon you and Virgil watch?" I asked. "Anime, Logan!" Virgil yelled from across three chairs. "Anime, right, but yes. We probably all have quirks- super human abilities- Remus and I probably have similar quirks because of us being twins," Roman explained. "Do you and Virgil have any idea what our quirks may be?" I questioned. "Yes actually," Roman told us. He put a notebook labeled, "Quirks of the Sides" on the small table in front of us and opened it.
I was on the first page marked "Logan: Analysis." There was a drawing of me with large glasses and my outfit looked like I was straight out of Tron. Roman, I love it but... " "But what?" Roman asked. "Do you need more Tron elements? Maybe some Star Wars elements? Wait I have an idea for your weapons now." Roman picked up the notebook and scribbled on the page. "There." Roman pointed to two large sheaths on either sides of my belt. "They work like light sabers and can be connected together. They can also do this." Roman added another tube to my weapon.
"No Roman it's amazing," I said, "but do you remember what the students said about their class?" Roman nodded, "They all have 'hero' quirks." "Right, so-" "Logan," Virgil interrupted me. "Just because you have a 'normal quirk' doesn't mean you can't be a hero. Look, one of these kids just has a tail, but he learned how to fight with the tail. So even if you have a basic quirk doesn't mean you can't become a hero." "Plus," Roman said, "We don't even know your quirk yet, so maybe you do have a 'hero' quirk!" So I tried it.
I don't remember what happened, but Virgil told me what happened. On the count of three, your eyes turned green and lifeless. You gave quick looks of the three of them. You listed in a robot type of voice, "Roman, imagine. Can make any fantasy creature come to life. Virgil, shadow control. Can blend into shadows and make the darkest weapons out of them." Then you looked at Remus. "Remus, nightmare. If you are took in by one of the six tentacles you see your worst nightmare." Remus said breathlessly, "Roman are you writing this down?" Then I snapped back to reality.
"What happened?" I rubbed my head. "That," Remus started, "was amzing!" "Okay, what did I do?" I asked. Roman pushed the notebook into my hands. Notes were everywhere across the pages. I smiled. "So you were right," I said. "Heck yeah!" Roman yelled. "What about the others?" I asked. "Were you right-"
"Here they are," a voice said. A little bear type animal stumbled to us. "Hello. I am Principal Nezu." "Logan." "Virgil." "Roman." "Remus!" "Take them to questioning," the principal said firmly. "Sir," Roman interrupted. "you do have security camera footage, right?
ⓡⓞⓜⓐⓝ
"See?" I told Principal Nezu. "The portal is blue, not purple, so we couldn't have been sent by The League of Villains!" "You actually do have some brain in there Roman," Virgil said in fake surprise. "Virgil, you are-" "Well!" Principal Nezu said way too firmly, not letting me finish my sentence. "Time to see if you should come into the school." "Sir," I said for the second time today. "we have nowhere else to go!" I wasn't wrong, just too lazy to go a homeless shelter something. Plus, I was not stopping a chance to be the new main characters in an anime. "There are homeless shelters in the arena." "We do have a home," I said to him. "just way far away from it." "How far are we talking?" he asked. Logan talked for me. "A different universe far. I made a devise to travel to different universes to fuel Thomas's-" Virgil elbowed Logan. He got the message. "This was all I found when we went through." Logan dug through a pant pocket and took out a few small pieces of metal. "Logan right?" He nodded. "We'll talk about that later. But, you four have a small chance to join the top hero school in Japan! So," The principal held out a paw. "What do you say?" I looked at them. If we join them then we are inches closer to finding Patton and Janus. And I could become a hero! That did it for me. I shook the paw. "Anyone else?" he asked. "Think of Patton and Janus," I told them. Logan shook it. "This is just for Patton and Janus," he said,"it's not to become a hero." Remus shook the paw, then Virgil. "Okay," Principal Nezu said. "Time for the test!"
ⓥⓘⓡⓖⓘⓛ
"This material!" Roman complained, "it's so... Cheap." "Roman, they probably get government funding, and do you think they would spend it on the gym uniforms?" I asked. "They get enough to have better fabric!" Roman yelled. Logan sighed. "Okay, what's our plan? Virgil, Roman, we need your help on this." "Sadly," Remus whispered. "Roman you remembered every single thing from here, so what do you think we will be tested on?" I asked him. "Something that could be put together under a time limit I'm sure. Maybe a test for the hero course students too?" Roman guessed. "So?" Roman knew exactly what I was going to ask, and slapped his book of plot on a bench.
Roman had a "book of plot" for everything he liked (musicals, TV shows, etc), containing theories, parts of the script and so much more. Right now he turned to the timeline. "They know of the UA traitor so," Roman trailed off, his finger moving across the line. "About here to here." "A few weeks after the USJ attack?!" I exclaimed. "That gives us how many guesses?" "About thirty," Roman replied. "Logan. Time?" Remus asked. "October." Roman moved his finger, and his eyes widened when found he where it ended up. "The robbery."
ⓡⓞⓜⓐⓝ
I explained this test to the others. "We're the villains I'm guessing, the heroes are victims, and the students are heroes, trying to find who did the bank robbery by questioning the victims." Virgil looked around where we were placed. "Roman you're on fire today," he told me, "look." I looked up to see the same building of the robbery and Mr. Aizawa in a flast. "Amazing huh?" he asked. We all nodded. "I'm Mr. Aizawa," he said, "or Eraser Head if you would like to use hero my name, but I normally get called Mr. Aizawa by the students.
"You will act as villains in my class's hero test, a bank robbery. You have to rob the bank, hold hostages, and have one of you in your group of hostages to lead the heroes away from the group. If you do most of these things successfully you will join my class in the hero course." I filed all of that information into my brain. "You have twenty minutes to plan, and ten to rob the bank." Mr. Aizawa wished us good luck and went back to his class, leaving us with the timer counting down to zero.
We had an amazing plan by five, and waited for zero.
ⓥⓘⓡⓖⓘⓛ
Roman double and triple checked with Logan to make sure we everything, and by check number four the horn blared. Roman and Remus bust through the doors, tying up every hero they could find, and traumatizing anyone who put up a fight, when Logan and I actually stole the money. Once we had every last piece of yen I took Logan out of the bank and came back to the first floor. Five. Four. I asked for them to tie me up at two, just seconds before the students were let out like wild animals. "Are you ready Emo Nightmare?" Roman asked. Both of them tried to look the most intimating they could, Roman had two wings on either side of him and Remus had all six tentacles out, and playing with them like rope. "Of course."
---------
"We just missed them!" Bakugo. "Well looks like they have victims tied up." Including me. Of course I wish I didn't have to get tied up, but this was all apart of the plan. "This one looks unconscious!" That was me.
The tape ripped off my mouth and I took in a sharp breath. That wasn't part of the act, but it really added to it. "Please! I'll stop! Just leave everyone else alone!" I yelled. Deku put a hand on my shoulder, but I jolted it away. "Who are you?" I asked. "If you came for the money, it's gone. They stole every bit of it." "Who's they?" Mina asked. "Didn't you hear? They're the three villains who took every bit of yen in the vault upstairs, " I replied bitterly. "They knocked everyone out, too."
Everyone was jolted and untied awake thanks to Charge Bolt, when two other heroes went upstairs to see the vault, but only one came back. "There's a villain up there with more unconscious!" they exclaimed. Deku looked at us. "Are you sure we can leave them alone?" he asked. "It's fine Deku! Just let them be!" Bakugo yelled as the class ran up the stairs. "I'll go," the hero told us, "drink some water or eat something okay?" We nodded but stayed in the same spot when he left.
"Good job!" Midnight congratulated me. "How did you keep it up?" I didn't listen though, because I had something else on my mind. Who would be that dumb to go against our plan? Wait. "Remus!" I tried to run up the stairs, but Midnight and Present Mic had my arms stuck in a wrap. "They're going to kill Remus!" I yelled. "Please at least let me tell them!" Midnight asked, "Just telling your friends? You aren't going to be responsible for killing a whole class?" "Maybe," I replied. "That's what I love to hear!" Midnight said cheerfully. "Go get them tiger!
-------
"Roman, Logan, Remus is going to die at the hands of the students!" I yelled. Roman broke a pencil in his hand. "Remus," he muttered, "if you die, I'll kill you. Logan," Roman said his name so firmly no one couldn't listen. "Time to kill some heroes."
ⓡⓔⓜⓤⓢ
"Here he is!"
Dang it, they found me. Wait, it's the whole class. I held my shock and said, "Well isn't this convenient? All of the heroes right where I want them!" "Give us Koda back, villain!" a voice yelled, "or this bank will go down in flames!" "This kid?" I asked, putting a tentacle on his passed out body, "he was easy to make faint, has simple fears." "Yeah that's Koda! Give him!" the same voice yelled. On top of the voice I heard loud wings. Roman. I gave in, and gave him.
"Remus! I was worried sick!" "Roman you can scold me later, now?" I pointed to the class behind me. "I need a get away." "Remus get on."
------
"Remus you're not dead!" Virgil hugged me very hard. "Roman, remind me to tell him he did that," I told my brother. "Of course," he replied. Logan smiled, also happy that I didn't die at the hands of a class of high schoolers. Once Virgil let go I said to Roman, "Roman they were high schoolers, I could have easily beat them." I showed off my tentacles. "Remus they were high schoolers with super powers!" Roman yelled. "Not all of them have trauma though, right?" I asked. Silent. "Right?" Mr. Aizawa broke the silent by saying into our earpieces, "All of you, back to the building. Now."
ⓛⓞⓖⓐⓝ
Mr. Aizawa walked in a line in front of his class, making tks sounds from the corner of his mouth. "I thought you were better than this. D in your grade for today. But extra points to Midoriya for thinking not to leave the hostages alone." A small "yes" from the row. Mr. Aizawa continued, "In other news, we will have four new students in our class. This is... " He trailed off, letting us introduce ourselves. "Logan." "Virgil." "Roman!" "Remus!" "Who wants to show them to the dorms?" Mr. Aizawa asked. Ten hands went up. "Kaminari." He pointed at a blond. "I didn't even have my-" "I know, but you need this for your grades." "Come on," he said. "I'll show you the dorms!"

What I don't like about Sonic
So, I like Sonic. Heck, my first Mario game was Mario Party (3 I think) and my first Sonic game was Sonic Gems and I think technically Sonic came first. But even before that, for some reason Adventure for Dreamcast swirls around in my memory, I'm just not sure how when I didn't have a Dreamcast?? Anyway, point taken, Sonic is cool, I grew up with him, big deal, so did a lot of others.
But here's the thing, I liked Sonic Gems but I only got the actual concept of Sonic AFTER playing it. The idea of playing a game where you're fast is appealing to me, it's like a game for the impatient…except it's not.
When I play Sonic, I want to run but instead it seems like there's a lot of puzzles and figuring out where to go and man do I hate the water levels. And I don't expect it to just be a straight shot with little ramps and loop-de-loops every now and then but it just doesn't scream what I imagine when I think of Sonic. So, okay, maybe the 2D games just aren't for me. I do prefer 3D platformers after all. I like Adventure, in fact, it's my favorite of the franchise but I still feel a sense of "Where am I going again?" Yeah you finish the beach level and then you go and get the shoes "Well how do you get the shoes?" "Well what's after the shoes?" "WHERE ARE THE SHOES?" obviously now and days we have the internet and I can just look up what I need to but it's mildly infuriating because there's a semi open world but there's only one viable place you can go, it's just a matter of finding it. Well, what about the OTHER 3D games. I can't speak for many but here's the list that I've compiled of all the Sonic games that I've played, what I think about them and such.
Sonic 1 - Alright Sonic 2 - Decent Sonic 3 and Knuckles - Good Mean Bean - Fun Sonic 4 - Yuck Sonic CD - Second favorite of the 2D Sonic Mania - Favorite of the 2D games Sonic Adventure DX - Favorite Sonic Adventure 2 Battle - Alright (Sonic X kinda ruined it for me) Shadow the Hedgehog - Annoying Sonic Heroes - Broken Sonic Gems - Fun Sonic Unleashed - Day is good, night is not Sonic Generations - Great but just a 'best of' collection Sonic Dash - do you even count that?
And you know what? That's 15 games (I guess Gems is a collection though) and I didn't finish any one of them (started by a habit my kid self had with games). Why keep buying Sonic games if I don't finish them? Because Sonic is cool. The characters are cool. The stories are cool. The gameplay…can use some work. I was one of the ones who was excited for Boom because I thought a reinvention would be beneficial AND that really worked didn't it? It looks more monotonous than ever. I've seen an array of cartoon and they're on par, there's nothing wrong with them but they don't scratch the same itch. I haven't read the comics because there's so many to choose from and
These games come out consistently, practically every year and I get that there are multiple teams but sheesh, look at Pokemon, it's the same deal. We all know what happens to games that come out on a yearly basis, they eventually repeat each other or lose quality therefore interest. Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, it's all been proven and I get it's apart of the hype in order to keep the train moving but look at Undertale. If that wasn't a game of its time, I don't know what is but then Toby Fox comes out with Deltarune and it's like the fandom never left. Take years for a chapter 2 and it's the same deal. Sonic has a dedicated fanbase so they can live through it. But Sonic is a little unique in this situation because it actually reminds me of the fast food place.
I don't like Sonic the restaurant BUT they have an amazing variety and neat gimmicks that keep bringing me back to try them anyway. Sonic is the same way. Sonic is a werehog now? Sign me up! Sonic is designed by people who worked on Jak and Daxter? Sign me up! Sonic wants to go dark with a spinoff about Shadow? Sign me up! And it works, it brings people like me in. I do find that what's advertised is a little lacking in gameplay though. Look at the comparison between in game graphics and cutscenes for just about any of them but Sonic Riders is a good example. I know that games do that, not just Sonic and games aren't about graphics most of the time but it just tells me that the game was rushed. And with Sonic, that seems to be the case more than not, I can make exceptions for the 2D games because, well, they're 2D and are now handled by a specific other studio that does good with those types of games, because they're FANS! And a 2D game doesn't come out nearly as much anymore therefore the pressure isn't riding on them as hard.
This is why I'm still a Sonic fan. This is why I have hope for the next game (Frontiers) and probably the next game after that. Maybe I'll go and actually finish one of them some day but I just want Sega to hear me out. Take your time. I know that Sonic is all about going fast, that's rad, but that doesn't mean the games have to come out just as quick. For gameplay, bring it back to the basics, if you want to make a game based on Sat, I'm here for it. If you want to make a Sonic 64, I'm here for it. Give me a camera where a third of the screen is taken up by Sonic's back like a Batman game, I'm cool with that. But I ask this. Just please be something cool without the 2D or 2.5D levels. Sonic 06 did bad (was rushed), I get that but really I think what would make it all work is an Adventure style game like that.

You do owe the world things, actually. It’s just those things tend to be perfectly balanced.
You owe people respect and dignity; they owe the same to you.
You owe children kindness; as a child, you are owed a kind world.
You are owed nourishment by any world that brings you into existence, you are owed a chance to thrive. In return, you owe the same to any people or creatures you agree to take guardianship over.
The issue is not that we, and others, and the world in general, owe each other.  We are all born being owed certain things, and by living we acquire debts; life requires this interdependence to thrive. The issue is that we are often misled as to what this actually means, by those who would take advantage of us. We are lied to by authority figures who do not want to respect us, or acknowledge their responsibility to us. Worse: we mistakenly come to believe that taking advantage of others is the key to restoring balance. We were cheated, so others must be cheated in turn.
We trap ourselves in these deadly cycles. Society betrays us so we are taught to disengage, to break it further. We are taught to forget the value of repair. We are taught to forget what is owed. Fundamentally, we are taught to forget that people are owed basic decency. When we say we owe the world nothing, we forget we are affirming the opposite: the world owes us nothing in return.
But this is so incredibly untrue. We owe the world things, and are owed in return, and that’s good, that is so so good. I would hate to live in a world where I didn’t believe people were fundamentally owed dignity and decency and kindness. The real issue is that these things often go unpaid, and unreciprocated. We think: “The world gave me nothing, though it should have. Why should I owe anything?”
And that is such a dangerous way to think. That type of thought just turns you into another gear in a destructive machine. That type of thought just allows despair to self-replicate. That type of thought validates the abusers and ensures there is never a shortage of victims. Feed those kinds of thoughts, and a plug gets pulled somewhere inside you, and lets the humanity drain away. You lose everything, trying to steal from others what was stolen from you. You cheat yourself and the world, with that kind of thinking.
I promise you this: When we try to balance the scales by refusing to pay forward what wasn’t paid to us, we just double the debt and burden the world in the process. A better world requires that we first do better.

Welp you have officially gotten me into batfam fics (via that Jason Todd hallucinations post). I didn't even realize Robin wasn't the dude's name 😅. And there's like three (four?) different ones?!
So thanks ig but also, how in the heck am I going to navigate a fandom with like ten movies, a hundred tv shows, and a million comics??? Send help!
Haha you're welcome, maybe, and welcome to the fandom! Always happy to have one more. Also lol about Robin's name being Robin. 😆 That's not how you secret identity!
Technically there's five; the blonde girl Stephanie who's Batgirl at present was Robin for a hot minute like 16 years ago. (And there's a reddish-brown-haired girl in goggles from an alternate timeline I'm very attached to, but she doesn't Count.)
Which leads into how the trick to navigating this space is accepting that you can't compass all of it, and nobody does, and the people who pretend to are usually being assholes.
You just figure out which parts of canon to learn and/or care about as you go, and build your own machine of optimized pieces.
It can be pretty annoying sometimes because you're sharing 'a fandom' with people who don't actually refer to any of the same canon as you to base their takes on, and you just have to live with that. And sometimes they don't want to let you live with it lmao.
But ultimately, learning tolerance of people who think i.e. the Young Justice cartoon show is the best relationship reference for Dick Grayson and his friends is good practice, and helps when you have to level up to tolerating the people who are Just Objectively Wrong. Which is a vital life skill well beyond fandom!
So honestly in some ways, especially if you're not planning to write fic yourself, it can be more fun to just. Not bother with the canon.
That said, let me see if I can give you some navigation tips.
Elements from popular shows and games, and even more from big films, always percolate both into the comics and the fan interpretations. It's understood a new film will sort of set a tone for the next few years at least.
But at the same time these non-comics properties are recognized as having their own sub-fandoms where they do their own independent things, while 'actual DC comics' are all sort of bundled together in a mass of internal conflict that DC the corporation keeps trying to disambiguate and making more confusing somehow.
The wikis are an essential reference but can be deeply frustrating because a lot of the people who work on them try to keep them 'up to date' by trying to edit them to keep up with every retcon and make long-running characters' lives sound like things that could really have happened to one person, which limits the interpretive scope of the fan trying to rely on the wiki page as a launch point to dig into a subject or check their work.
Generally, the oldest and the most recent pieces of canon data on a subject where there's conflict are considered to have the highest...realness status, unless one of the intervening versions is just vastly the most popular.
A lot of people's favorite Batman is the one from the 1990s Batman the Animated Series, for example, so anything that's not compatible with his character core as shown there gets thrown out when they're customizing.
But basically you can choose to believe anything you want. It's more fun for most of us to believe things on the basis of it having appeared in print, and being able to pull a citation generally gets you more clout, but this is not required. We're at a sufficiently high level of build-your-own-canon that a sufficiently cogent headcanon is basically at the same level of ontological power as anything that only happened once.
So do whatever you want, pretty much! Superheroes!
Have fun! :DDDD

I was getting bored and thinking of my oc fan children Alexandra and David when I started to ponder: “Which of the many AU Krupps would they actually like and which ones should they NOT be around?” So I thought I’d amuse myself with this with the AU’s that stand out to me.
WOULD GET ALONG:
@artistcaptainbendy’s Smartypants!Krupp: Instant adoration without question. They’d love a version of their dad whose more than a bit whackier than CU who somehow defies all logic.
artistcaptainbendy’s Bendypants!Krupp: It’s probably a given if you’ve seen the fan art. But even if they didn’t have counterparts in this AU, I think they’d like him and be quite protective of him, even if the AU isn’t the safest place to be at.
@sugarlol-13’s ITTHIGSS!Krupptoon: Is it weird that I think they’d get along with what is basically a murderous cartoon character/walking corpse fusion? I get the sense that Krupptoon wouldn’t hurt a child and as long as he didn’t know who Alexandra and David are, I think things would be ok. It would likely be the same as with SP!Krupp, though I think they’d need to adjust to his unusual appearance first. (Though I think its best they don’t stay in that AU for too long, given its nature... or find out what Krupptoon is capbable of... or God forbid what happens to that world’s version of their mother).
sugarlol-13’s teaiocu CapGadget: I mean it still counts if he’s still Krupp in a way... right? I think David would think this version of his Dad is awesome and start asking him questions like “What’s the best part about being a cyborg man?” I think the reality of CapGadget’s unique situation would hit Alexandra and she’d be a bit unsettled. (And have some questions that’d be hard to answer).
WOULD BE AMUSING TO SEE:
Beetlejuice!Krupp (as proposed by @jackie-sugarskull): They’d like him and enjoy scaring others with him, and I’m sure he’d like to have two kids who want to scare alongside him for a change. But I think this version of Krupp is a bit more attentive and he’d realize who they are within two minutes.... and then starting thinking too hard about certain things. (“I actually escape from my mother/undead life and get married to someone? I get to be alive? Wait, do I actually HAVE kids in the future? How am I paying for this? How do I even get a job if I–?”)
@rigamaroo’s Labyrinth!Krupp: This version is one of the one’s that’s closest to canon!Krupp so I don’t think they’d be amused by this version of their dad, especially if he tried to kidnap him. In fact I could see a repeat of the dynamic between him and two certain pranksters. (Also, cue ‘Magic Dance’ to further annoy him).
@princeasimdiya12’s Aladdin!Krupp: Same as above. Except instead of asking for wishes, I think they’d just try to get him to hang out with them and lighten up a bit. (Though Alexandra would likely be the one to be smart with wording the wishes, or even turning them against Krupp).
WOULD NOT BE A GOOD IDEA FOR VARIOUS REASONS:
princeasimdiya’s Danganronpa!Krupp: if the name didn’t give it away, then I don’t think it’d be safe for them to be in a despair filled world. The idea of them meeting a kid version of their Dad is cute, but if the Mastermind found out or if they knew the truth behind Benjamin... (Likely ultimate titles for David and Alexandra and just for the heck of it: ‘Ultimate Comic Book Enthusiast’ and ‘Ultimate Choralist’)
@warrior-of-waistbands’s Fallen Down!Krupp: I think it would be a bad idea if they went near this Krupp because he already has a lot of emotional/angst issues to deal with. I think there’d be too much ‘what could of been’ if he realized why they looked familiar. And I think they’d be upset to know the backstory behind this version of their parents. (Though in case you do wonder, I see Alexandra with a determination soul and David with a justice soul).
@infini-tree’s Sticky Notes AU: Absolutely not going to happen. That Krupp has made it clear he doesn’t want children. The idea is as good as eating a tide pod for a tik tok challenge. If it HAD to happen, then I could see only Alexandra as a teenager meeting him for five minutes, but even then I think she’d pick up enough to know that she shouldn’t let him know who she is. (I’m guessing it’d be the same with the PMD AU if that Krupp is anything like SN!Krupp, though being forced to spend more time with the boys... maybe it’d lighten him up a smidge? Maybe not.).
WHAT ABOUT MY AUS?
(I’m only sticking with one for this one because it’d be the most interesting/entertaining)
LM AU!Krupp: They’d both find the idea of their dad being a mershark in this world as one of the most awesomest things ever, and try to get him to let them see the ocean below. Meanwhile he’d have a panic attack and try to remember if he and Edith.... well, ‘got up to anything’ ten years ago. (Fun fact: I have toyed with the idea of an AAU of Alexandra being born in this AU and being around the same age as the boys, plus her being able to turn into a mermaid.)
