Warnings: Implied Smut, Older Man/Younger Reader, Age Gap, Spanking, Jealous Dominic, Manipulation, No Pronouns used for Reader except ‘You’.
♡ Hector had only loved once before meeting you. Likewise, he had only loved once after meeting you. But that didn’t mean he wasn’t interested in you.
♡ On the contrary, when Dominic had pulled up to the sprawling manor Hector orchestrated, expecting to see Marilyn at his side yet seeing an unfamiliar face in her stead, his curiosity was, admittedly, peaked. No small achievement considering this man has done and seen everything this world has to offer.
♡ Dominic explained – in monotone French – that Marilyn was sick, hence she couldn’t come. He’d brought you – a family friend – in her place. You couldn’t ignore the waver in his voice, his pointed stare up at his father, who resided in an almost throne-like armchair behind a mahogany desk.
♡ Hector looked through Dominic and gazed at you. You could see now where Dominic’s predilection for sharp, underhanded stares originated; the founding father of Dominic’s cold architecture.
♡ You felt as if his eyes combed over your very being, unravelling all the tangles in your make-up and laying you down to your most base, threadbare foundations, seeing you for what you really were.
♡ “Very well,” the older man grumbled, only taking his eyes off you once Dominic cleared his throat. Beside you, his son’s fingers twitched.
♡ You were excused shortly after with Dominic taking you outside, almost jogging down the steps with a haste you’d never witnessed before, and bringing you to a most isolated spot. You’d noticed a collection of staff – chefs, maids, caretakers, gardeners – crawling about the mansion. None of them resided near you now.
♡ “Don’t talk to him unless you’re with me,“ Dominic warned. In his eyes watched a man you’d never seen before. Something vaguely…human in the colour of his irises. Warm. Afraid.
♡ Interaction with Dominic’s father – Hector – was uncomfortable at first. You’d tried to juggle Hector’s hostile hospitality with Dominic’s warnings, ultimately toing and forming between the two since they never inhabited the same space for more than ten minutes whenever meals were served.
♡ One day, when Dominic had to leave the manor on important  business, unable to take you with him, he’d instructed you to stay in your room. He tried to smooth over the jagged brickwork of his command with a suave charm that could put the incarnation of panic at ease, but you could tell – for perhaps the first time – that it felt false.
♡ Dominic left. Hours passed. You grew bored.
♡ You left your room.
♡ And who did you happen to meet whilst trawling the halls, searching for any form of entertainment?
♡ Why, the very man Dominic had forbidden you from seeing.
♡ Hector came down the hall on certain footing, obviously having taken great care of his mobility in his younger years to be able to traverse the many staircases and rooms this residence held. So why did he have so many caretakers?
♡ You scarcely had time to wonder as, before you could hide, he spotted you. Ordered you to come to him. You did, hesitant. He gave you a monotone look.
♡ “You. Come with me.”
♡ You followed him to a door that felt familiar. Inside, his study. On his desk, a pre-set game of chess. He sat at his desk. He motioned for you to join him.
♡ You, with a pounding heart and a strong sense of being out of place, played chess. Hector taught you the best way to win – “For when you compete against Dominic.”
♡ You bantered, lethargic at first, until you found even footing on subjects that weren't just Hector’s only son.
♡ You wondered what it was about his father that Dominic was so keen to isolate you from, to conceal from you.
♡ Nothing you cared for, honestly. Especially when Hector showed you just how solid his sense of humour was, how intelligent he was. How lively he could be despite his initial coldness.
♡ Of course, he was still icy, very blunt most of the time. But you could tell it wasn’t his choice – he was made this way. By who or what, you couldn’t be sure. But what you did know was that you weren’t about to let Dominic’s personal vendetta ruin your budding friendship with his father.
♡ No longer did you hide from Hector’s judgement as you scampered back to your room, the shutting of the front door reverberating through the manor’s great walls; you sought refuge from Dominic’s as he came storming down the hallway, his footfalls faster than he’d have liked them to be as he rushed to check on your condition, to see you after being forced to leave you in his father’s un-care.
♡ After that, you made more of an effort to see Hector. Especially as you had few other people to talk to – Dominic especially as he seemed more and more swept up in sudden business meetings and last-minute supply chain issues.
♡ The longer you spent in Hector’s presence – in the garden, in the library, in his study for more games of chess – the more you began to see slivers of him in Dominic. Scratchings of silver beneath rock; the inclinations of a vein of purest ore.
♡ Though, that did not mean the metal that lay dormant beneath was pure in itself.
♡ On the contrary, when you weren’t around, Hector made full – and I mean full – use of the maids, caretakers and staff at his disposal. Anyone who bore a similar enough resemblance to you was subject to any manner of his objectification.
♡ Lasting stares, increasingly lewd requests, commands to snoop through the few personal belongings you’ve brought with you – the sort of thing any powerful older man will do for the object of their affections.
♡ Sexual matters aren’t off the table, either.
♡ Far from it.
♡ In fact, it’s bent over the edge of Hector’s desk, whining and whimpering and at the mercy of a man far more experienced than his old age could belie.
♡ He’s so nasty with it, too. He knows his workers will do anything he asks of them – for the right price. And he’s got nothing but money to burn.
♡ God forbid his most recent toy talks back to him, lest they be subject to a thorough spanking by Hector’s belt.
♡ He’s still more than capable of getting himself off without the assistance of his employees, though. He just enjoys the power he has over them. Enjoys the taste of the influence he’ll have over you.
♡ Guy’s a wealthy man, he’s got cameras everywhere. And Dominic knows this. Hence he’s always around to cover you up when you’re getting changed – even if it makes him look somewhat questionable.
♡ You’re for his eyes only, but he knows his father will find a way to try and sneak a peek of you – to show Dominic that, while in his house, you’re both under his rules.
♡ As was the case now as Hector requested for you come to his study for afternoon tea.
♡ While there, making light conversation, he dropped a question that hung, heavy, between you in a way you couldn’t quite describe/
♡ “Did I ever tell you,” began Hector, knowing full-well he’s not once recounted this tale to you. His old age will afford him the disguise of senility, if only for a short while. You’ll listen, politely.
♡ “About Dominic’s mother?”
♡ You tell him no, that not even Dominic has ever mentioned his mother – or his family – to you before. Hector hummed. Grumbled, more so.
♡ The void in his chest sank lower as he recalled to you the greatest love of his life.
♡ “Too good for this world,” he said, regaling her acts of altruism, of philanthropy. “Someone upstairs must’ve known it, too.”
♡ You had a feeling that ‘upstairs’ transcended far beyond the many dusty rooms Hector had advised you and Dominic not to go exploring during your time here.
♡ He told you, with practiced malcontent, how Dominic’s birth would be his mother’s un-birth; her escort from this life to the next. Hector sniffed, though not for tears. You still jolted forward to comfort him, though.
♡ And he wasn't one to reject your offer.
♡ The portrait of his wife – young and beautiful for a cruel infinity – watched over the two of you.
♡ “So you see,” he continued, “That’s why Dominic doesn’t visit – or I’m willing to guess, talk about – me as much as you perhaps do with your parents.”
♡ Of course, you understood perfectly where he was coming from. Something in him grinned at the idea of even a drop of a villainous hue staining Dominic’s curated disguise, making him scrub and scrub at the veneer until it wore away and revealed the corpse beneath piloted by parasites.
♡ You tell Hector that if he ever wants to talk, you’re always down to listen. Hector grants you a small smile. Artificial warmth. Gently, he slides his hand atop yours, pats it.
♡ You are the singular object his son desires. Hence, you are the object he shall steal from him, for there is no better form of discipline than loss.
♡ And Hector wants Dominic to know what it’s like to lose everything.

yet another character vs character / smash or pass esque poll blog BUT WITH A TWIST: we're gonna pair the same character against himself a whole lot!!! we all know rick sanchez is smashable already - there's no contest there. but on the sliding scale of rickage, which variant is THE most smashable on tumblr? let's find out together!
basic rules/criteria:
18+ only please. we're discussing fuckability of an adult character cartoon. lets keep this between adults
no r1ck0rty/other sort of shipping interaction please (this is a rickcest safe space tho)
live laugh fight. the point of these polls is to be fake mean to each other but try to keep it ONLY fake mean. we are all rickfuckers here 🫶
c137 rick covers a LOT of ground that will not be in this poll (any of his younger designs that arent their own fleshed out ricks, alt versions like pickle rick, shrimp rick, teddy rick or tiny rick) (tiny rick excluded on the basis of technically being 14) (og shrimp rick n teddy rick also excluded on the basis of being fascists sorry)
ricks were picked based on being distinctively different from a normal rick (c137 in this case) either thru personality, looks, or both. ricks that are essentially a regular ol' rick with one minor difference didn't make the cut
roaster plunked from primarily show canon or pocket mortys as these are the ricks we get the most time to learn about
i'll run a period where the audience can make a case for any ricks i didn't add + drop testimonials for upcoming matchups
i am just one bored art school student pwease be patient with me
please refrain from calling any of the ricks d@ddy on reblogs/replies/asks/whatever. mod preferences 🫶
may the sexiest gilf win 🫡
current bracket set up under cut
order of polls will start on the left column down, move down the right column, and then repeat the process on the next bracket (starting with LUST RICK vs SALESMAN RICK)
yall will have 24 hours to fight for ur poor bastard of choice's dignity. 6 polls will stack at a time to keep things running quick.

"I love that she felt the need to lie on her cover letter and also- grendan is here" ahdslkfjsdf drawtectives.. literally grendan is THE character of all time. he has a sunhat and a walking stick. she's been to space and interviewed a bunch of ghosts. they're a dog walker. she goes by grendan g-ma and grandma. she uses any pronouns. they crush up leaves from their hat and say it's medicine. he's a sentimental drunk. she's actually a great detective. he solved a high profile murder on their first job. their best friends are a gilf private investigator who they refer to as their collective mom slash ancestral ghost, a half-orc model who has limited understanding of human culture, and a millennial thief with anxiety. he's the blueprint.

So... how do I feel about the series finale?
Well, I have mixed feelings about it.
What I like about it:
1. Hemlock and Rampart's deaths - they deserve it.
2. Nala Se sacrifices her life to destroy the databank - it's a fitting fate for her.
3. Emerie survives and starts a new life. I thought she's going to die.
4. Echo gets to shine.
5. Omega causing chaos and leading the kids out of Tantiss.
6. Prison breakout like Narkina 5 situation
7. Omega hugs Crosshair.
8. Hunter, Wrecker, Crosshair, Omega and Echo survive (as predicted)
9. GILF Hunter
10. The epilogue is good - bittersweet to see Omega has grown up and chose to join the Rebellion.
But I have many issues about it:
1. Tech is actually gone... I can't believe that the crew dragged us with false hope. It is so cruel. Tech deserves a good ending!
2. There is a lack of mourning and paying tribute to Tech. He's only remember for his usefulness and intelligence, not as a loving brother. This is hurtful for the ND community.
3. The whole CX-2 identity - it turns out he's a nobody... but why so much focus on him and why so many clues pointed him to Tech? I suspect that CX-2 was supposed to be Tech, but something happened behind the scenes and changed it, but they didn't change the script. It's like they want to satisfy both Tech is Alive truthers and non Tech is Alive people - and they fail both of us.
4. What is going to happen to the Force-sensitive kids? We saw Echo and Emerie brought them on a shuttle and probably went to Pantora to meet Riyo Chuchi. I think they are later sent to Naboo (where Kelleran Beq hid Grogu?)
5. Scorch's death. I was 50/50 for his death, but I really wish they could have kept him alive.
6. Crosshair's hand gets cut off. I know people say that by losing his hand, Crosshair is forced to face his trauma. His arm was trembling, without his shooting hand, and using an unfamiliar blaster. He took a deep breath and took a leap of faith, and made the shot to save Omega. Of course, the mental trauma still remains but at least he now have the space to heal on Pabu. However, they glossed over him still dealing with trauma after returning to Pabu. I don't like that.
7. The memes and "jokes" about Crosshair losing his hand, saying "now he has lost his hand, he doesn't have to deal with his hand shaking anymore!" I struggle with anxiety and depression, and my hand was shaking before and during the finale watch - the episode was anxiety driven to me. I find the scene was giving the message "if you want to solve your anxiety, then cut off your problems!" I can't cut off my problems, and that is just ignoring the problem... it's not healing... It's made worse when I found out the Kiners made a cryptic tweet about a chef chopping off a fish's head and it was referring to Crosshair losing his hand... and they thought it was funny. I lost respect on them.
8. The CX Troopers are basically Knights of Ren - they look cool but quickly disposed of. I hate that.
9. The time jump only made me wonder what was Echo's fate. Since the Clone Rebellion didn't work, I assumed the worst that Echo died for his brothers... and if that's the case, the Bad Batch never mentioned him, as if he didn't matter to them! I also assumed Emerie died as well.
10. I already knew anything about Cody and Wolffe would be left for another series.
11. I can't believe we didn't see GILF Wrecker and Crosshair. They all three should be there to bid farewell to her.
12. Batcher became Hunter's dog... she was more of Crosshair's therapy dog...
13. I hate that they didn't explain much about Project Necromancer - the casual viewers would be so confused.
14. Corbett and Rau still played around Omega's M-Count as a mystery box even in the interviews after the finale. She is NOT Force-sensitive - it's just her blood can accept Force-sensitive blood and retain its M-Count, so it's useful to create Force-sensitive clones. They play around for too long and many people are left confused why Omega never used the Force on the Zillo Beast. I want them to confirm a "no!"
15. The Zillo Beast just left... so why the Empire needed to clone a Zillo Beast?
16. Corbett and Rau said that CX-2 was a mirror of Crosshair, then why it was Hunter who killed CX-2 instead?
17. Some Wrecker girlies feel that Wrecker is treated as a tool for his strength like Tech is treated as a tool for his intelligence. Yeah, it's messed up.
18. I find it a bit sad that Hunter, Omega, Crosshair and Wrecker just choose to settle down on Pabu when the Empire is still expanding its power.
19. They should cut off Fennec and Ventress episodes - they serve nothing to the plot.
20. So many loose threads - Why the Kaminoans created female clones? Did Crosshair really remove his inhibitor chip?
21. I don't like Hunter only has tunnel vision on Omega.
22. Omega didn't even use her energy crossbow! She didn't even bring it in the epilogue! What was the point?!
23. Rex, Gregor and Howzer are not even in the finale! Well, at least Howzer lives.
24. Crosshair saying "Clone Force 99 died with Tech". It sounds like he resents Tech and his family... which is out of character.
To be honest, I was numb about the ending. Something was off, and I could feel it. The more I process it, the more dissatisfied I feel about the ending. I have broken down crying not because I didn't get what I want, but more like I felt betrayed by the writers.
To me, the Bad Batch is about celebrating inclusivity and diversity - that we can be true to ourselves. This series has given me hope for the future that we can love ourselves and others for who they are. This dream seems impossible based on my real-life experiences, but the Bad Batch keeps me safe and nurtures my dream. Seeing the fanarts, fanfictions and headcanons have given me more hope for the future despite all the obstacles ahead. That is why I write so many Bad Batch analyses because I want to share my knowledge and findings to many people, hoping that they can understand the powerful messages from these stories that may change their lives.
I appreciate each Bad Batch member, and I can see myself in them. I want my analyses to assure other people that they are loved for who they are. I even finished the Clone Wars arc analysis hours before the series finale, because I thought that the finale would have parallels with the Clone Wars episodes. After all, the title is "The Cavalry Has Arrived", which is said by Wrecker in the Clone Wars arc. Alas, I don't feel like we have gotten that...
After some discussions and analyses, I feel that season 3 has done a disservice to the Bad Batch, and Omega is the only main character who benefits all. No hate to her, but I just wish the rest of the Bad Batch are given the same respect they deserve. The Bad Batch is an idea of George Lucas that Dave Filoni later brings them to life for Clone Wars before cancellation. I feel that Disney only prioritize characters made under the Disney Star Wars banner, and that's Omega. No hate to her. The series finale feels like Disney has disrespected the last of George Lucas' works, because I couldn't comprehend what valuable life lessons from all of these.
Moreover, to see the crew dragging us with false hope, making jokes about Tech's sacrifice and that he lives, joking about Crosshair losing his hand, remembering Tech only for his usefulness and intelligence, giving Hunter tunnel vision of Omega, sidelining Wrecker and Echo, and ruining Crosshair's character arc in the last two episodes (actually I feel that except Omega, the rest of the Bad Batch suffer from character assassination)... It feels that they never cared about us. It's like my dreams and hopes for a better future where everyone can be true to themselves have been shattered… The Bad Batch is all about celebrating inclusivity, and the crew ruined it.
Besides breaking down to tears about the constant reminder that nobody cares about my anxiety attacks, the whole talk of Tech only being remembered of his usefulness and intelligence opened wounds in my heart. Growing up, my family used my excellent grades to boost their image. My father used my grades and talents to boost how he was a great father when in fact he was rarely present in my childhood. When I was around 24, I learned from my aunt that if I wasn't smart or talented, my father would never recognized me as his child. This realization shattered my worldview and that's how I ended up in a dark place. I was there for more than a year until my epiphany about the Bad Batch pulled me out there. My father did apologize for his actions and want to make amends.
Yet... I am back in the dark place once more because of season 3... and it's been a year since I am out of the dark place... it feel worse than "Plan 99" because I felt that everything I have worked on, with my tears, sleepless nights and heavy research... has come to mean nothing... my mental struggles mean nothing... and it seems life means nothing... it's only hopelessness and the cruel, harsh reality...
Star Wars is about hope. It is a modern-day myth that George Lucas uses to uplift people's spirits. But why do I feel so... numb, empty and betrayed?
I will still stay around the Bad Batch fandom, since I always enjoy the fanfictions, fanarts, fan comics and headcanons, and I prefer them over the actual series. I will eventually write my season 3 analysis, but I still have to process it. For now, at least I make the right choice for my OC to be a Jedi, so I am going to do a "fix-it canon" then.
Will I be able to leave my dark place? Someday, yes. I believe that because Tech says, "we will find a way, like we always do." Although my wounds may take a long time to heal, I will still keep fighting. I know that I must never give up hope. I must keep fighting for that dream, no matter how impossible it seems.

What is your favourite Doctor Who story?
Tumblr media
ROUND 1 MASTERPOST
synopses and propaganda under the cut
Doom’s Day Hour 1
Synopsis
Doom has 24 hours to live after a complication on New Venice. This is how her story begins...
Someone has sent literal Death after Doom. Unless she can find the Doctor she is gonna meet certain doom. Only Terri can help her with that, if Doom can persuade her.
Propaganda
It's fun and trying something different. Moffat told all about the Doctor's reputation across time and space, but we mostly see the negative reaction, not the positive, and the perspective of someone trying to find the doctor is a great concept. (anonymous)
An Adventure in Space and Time
Synopsis
A young producer frustrated by British television's glass ceiling, a new executive at the British Broadcasting Corporation, a young director of Indian descent, and an older actor struggling for artistic legitimacy come together in 1963 to start a brand new television programme called Doctor Who. After initial difficulties, the show becomes a hit, leaving the actor alone to carry on the show's traditions — and to face his increasingly ailing health.
Propaganda no propaganda submitted
Shada 1992 (version with linking narration by Tom Baker playing a future Doctor)
Synopsis
This is Shada again but with linking narration by a future version of the Doctor played by Tom Baker between the parts they filmed back in 1979
Propaganda
This one has linking narration by unknown incarnation of the Doctor played by Tom Baker.(anonymous)
Shada (animated reconstruction)
Synopsis
Shada: a prison built by the Time Lords for defeated would-be conquerors of the universe. A scientist named Skagra needs the help of one of the prison's inmates. He finds nobody knows where Shada is anymore, except one aged Time Lord who has retired to Earth, where he is a professor at St Cedd's College. Luckily for the universe, Skagra's attempt to force the information out of Professor Chronotis coincides with a visit by the professor's old friend, the Fourth Doctor.
Propaganda no propaganda submitted
Return to Shada (webcast version with 8)
Synopsis
Where the Fourth Doctor left off, the Eighth Doctor comes to finish the job. With Romana and K9 by his side, they have to stop the evil Skagra. (<- I believe this has the same plot as Shada, but with a different Doctor)
Propaganda
this probably falls under the umbrella of shada since there are so many versions of it this one is just my favorite (anonymous)
Shada but eight is in it. Also Romana is President. And Skagra is for some reason no longer sexy young gay man but a gay GILF, sadly his hat and disco nature died in the transition.(anonymous)

i made a narrative character for my friend @gay-robot's lancer game. they aren't a pilot but they're very involved with the crew
we call them old they/themkins (pun on old man jenkins) but to everyone else they're just gramps or grandpa bc they act it and are older than everyone
certified gilf that's anywhere from seventy to twelve thousand years old. was cryogenically frozen and severely displaced through time and space (and blinkspace.)
can't remember their entire life. it's a wonder their brain wasn't just Liquified with how long they were dreaming (and WHERE they were dreaming)
wheelchair user. their flesh hands aren't great for many reasons so they got four new ones synced to their spine
they use the language understanding chip in their brain to make dad jokes and puns and nothing else useful
has sci-fi narcolepsy that's cool and extremely normal. entirely unrelated but guess what i was just diagnosed with
they see memories when they sleep! it's just that those memories may not [Belong to them.] who said that
anyways please accept my final message. you don't get any context for it

Ever get tired of talking about cans fic? Wanna talk about the absolute missed opportunity that was making sothis a gremlin child and not a milf or even possibly a gilf instead?
Eh, kinda yeah kinda no regarding getting tired of talking about the fic.
Like, the actual act of reading the actual fic? Genuinely ass. Like, I've actually read up to and fully written out the notes for Chapter 62. I tried reading the first sentence of Chapter 63 right afterwards, saw it was a Rhea POV chapter, and went back to reading my otome isekais. That was around late November, and I've still yet to read any more of Chapter 63. The act of reading through something this horrible requires a lot of long breaks in-between sessions of reading.
But! In doing so I also get to talk about aspects of writing, and about 3H in particular, which I love doing. I like geeking out over aspects of writing like characterization, consistency, logical throughlines, character growth, etc. and being able to do so with such a horrible example of pretty much all of that is kinda fun, ngl.
And I also get to see and tackle so, so many of the asinine, horrendous takes that have made this fandom such a volatile space, such as:
Teacher Theory
Edelgard being some poor hapless maiden waiting for her love to save her from her unfair and unjust fate of being "branded" a villain
Dimitri being so toxic and "gone" that he needs to be killed since he just can't "listen to reason" anymore (and that actually him getting killed would make him happier)
the same essentially being said about Rhea
Lonato being a just man during his rebellion, as well as Christophe being just in his attempt to kill Rhea
Nabateans as a race being to blame for all of humanity's problems and so needing to take accountability for all of humanity's wrongs
Claude not actually caring about Fodlan and just wanting to conquer it so he can do better when he goes back to Almyra
Byleth needing to be completely human and needing to reject their Nabatean heritage in order to become happy
Edelgard being the only one among the lords + Rhea to ever care for Byleth
Everyone's best self being found only on CF
the idea that anyone defending themselves against Edelgard's attempt on their life in the Holy Tomb would be the aggressor instigating war against Edelgard
Edelgard caring so much about the people and being the only lord to care about the people
Sothis wanting Byleth to choose Edelgard over everyone else
Everyone making Edelgard kill them
And so on and so forth; this fic has pretty much all of them. In a way, reading this fic and breaking it down lets me have one, concentrated area where I get to dissect exactly how and why all of these takes are either shitty, genuinely disgusting, stupid as hell, or a mix of some/all of those things. And given the fact that Cap'n and multiple people in the fandom want this fic to be taken as meta/required reading, and with this basically being an amalgamation of all of Cap'n's genuine takes on the game (+ those of other Edelstans), going over exactly why such an influential thing is so wrong feels fitting lol. It's a pain to actually have to read through, especially with the pretentious and self-pitying holier-than-thou prose making things hard to actually physically read, but the result of doing so makes it worth it imo.
Buuuut to get off of that: yes, it was an extremely huge missed opportunity that Sothis was a stupid fuckin' loli instead of her actual self. Or, I guess more accurately, that she didn't physically become her actual self after merging with Byleth, or at least become physically closer to it. Full Mommy Sothis is so beautiful from the little we see of her! And the idea of her looking more like how she used to as she gains more of her memories would've been cool to see! And, uh, also, I feel an adult body would make her garb feel less... unfortunate to look at (ngl I get Nowi vibes looking at Sothis and I Do Not Like Nowi's clothing design that much).
I feel there was a lot missed with Sothis tho, and that that's mostly the case because the game more wants the feeling of a mystery to hang around the game more than it does actually writing a mystery with a conclusion. Sothis was seen regaining bits and pieces of her former life as a god, so if she stayed around long enough she could have revealed things to the player that were meant to be hidden. Same with Rhea - she could talk about a lot of the background knowledge of Fodlan's history that could have fleshed out the world so much more. But doing that would "spoil the fun" so to speak; there wouldn't be a mystery anymore, which the writers seemed to prioritize more than actually making the mystery fulfilling to figure out.
So Sothis gets yeeted out of the story halfway through, and Rhea is either an unavailable damsel in distress or a person pushed past their breaking point and thus unable to talk to. That's why Rhea's lore dumps on SS and VW are so rushed and forced - the writers knew they had to eventually get to the end of the mystery, and so held off as long as possible. At least, that interpretation of the writing can exist, given how they've written everything lol

Sarge X Medic Reader
Summary- What should've been a simple supply run became much worse.
[A/n]- SARGE! Not many fics about him out there, I am going to personally change that. Lets hear it for our favorite DILF! (Or would it be GILF?) Feedback is Always appreciated!
Tw- assault [head injury], torture [mildly graphic], death, canon typical violence [Please let me know if I missed any!!!]
Tumblr media
It should’ve been any old supply run :Get in, grab what's on the list, get out. Simple enough right? Wrong, oh so wrong. You should’ve known when you got paired up with Sarge and his team of lieutenants that something was bound to happen. See now, you had a small crush on the eccentric Colonel and unbeknownst to you, so did he. He could never tell you because he just didn’t know how. He was only a few years older than you so why did it still feel so weird? Neither of you truly knew.
But back to the present, you guys had reached your destination; a small abandoned town from before the war. Winter’s barren nature had overtaken it. This run had to be extra cautious because you were warned of recent pirate activity in the area. Keeping that in mind you had left to search an abandoned pharmacy. It was half way through when the sound of other vehicles pulling up were heard nearby.
Sarge radios his team to tell them to hurry what they’re doing and get back in the vehicles. Normally he would just fight them if it came to that but you were with them and he also didn’t need any more casualties in this stupid war. Most of his team were teens for heaven's sake. When he didn’t hear you respond with the rest he opened a private channel to try and reach you. “Hey get back to the vehicles, a bunch of space pirates just popped up nearby. I told everyone to just finish what they were doing and get ready to leave. Ain’t worth the trouble.”
“Yeah I’d love to do that but I’m pinned at the moment,” you whispered into the comms while peeking over the shelving into the aisles, “Seven pirates searching for you guys. I’m going to try and sneak past them.” Moving behind another shelf you made your way towards the emergency exit. Once you made it to the door you radioed Sarge again,“I’ve made it out, be ready for-” when you were knocked over.
“Oh no you don’t.” sneers the pirate standing over you. Crouching down next to you he spoke, “Tell your little Colonel goodbye.” Then he brought the butt of his rifle down on your temple. The world went black.
Back in the vehicles was a panicked Sarge. He wanted to rush to you but he couldn’t risk the others and the cargo. Frustratedly he orders the group back to Armonia with nothing but you and revenge on his mind. He’d get you back no matter what.
Meanwhile, you awoke being dragged into what seemed to be a wounded tent. Using quick thinking you sent your location to the first person on your contacts, which happened to be Simmons. And then they stripped you of your armour and forced you to tend to their wounded soldiers. After you had finished with the last man they dragged you to another tent; cuffing your hands behind your back the torture began. Stabbing you with different blades, holding your head under water, or sometimes they’d just hit you with their fists. Almost everything in the boom to try and get you to talk. You weren’t even sure why they thought you would have information. But your favourite being when they had carved ‘WASTE’ into your stomach.  But you just would not break. Sure you’d scream and you had cried, but in the end you had told them nothing. Oh and how they hated that. Eventually they left you alone, loudly talking about what was for dinner and how they’d hunt down and kill the rest of your squad if you didn’t talk by tomorrow. One had asked another why they were ordered to keep you alive. That puzzled you. Was the order from the mercenaries?
After they had left you had plenty of time to think. You were too hurt to attempt an escape and you didn’t know where they put your armour. It was unlikely that a team would come for you despite your distress signal to Simmons.
“That’s war” they would always say, “not everyone makes it back.”
Hell, they probably already had your replacement setting up. That kinda hurt but what hurt more is that you’d never see your friends again, and you’d never be able to tell the Colonel how you felt about him. If you had ever worked up the courage anyway. You’d never be able to hear his stupid rants again or be able to watch him teach the others how to shoot. Those were your favourite days, for a man of his age and with some of his more permanent wounds, he moved like he was 15 years younger. Sometimes he’d offer to teach you since you didn’t seem to be much of a fighter. Perhaps now that you look back on it you should have taken him up on those offers. Because look where not being able to defend yourself very well got you.
You weren’t sure how much time had passed when you heard the sound of gunfire outside. Two pirates burst inside and grabbed you. Not caring that they were making your injuries worse, they dragged you out and you tried to make sense of what you were seeing. Simmons and Agent Carolina were barreling through pirates. You hadn’t even noticed how many there were in the camp. And then you heard it, the sound of a shotgun being racked back. Looking around for him as they continue to pull you to a car you spotted him take down a pirate in the way.
“Sarge!” you cried out, trying to catch his attention. His helmet spinning around towards the noise. And then the pirate who had been in charge of getting information from you made the absolute worst decision of his life; He punched you. Right in the stomach in an attempt to shut you up. You cried out, the blow having reopened the word carved there, causing blood to pour out.
Sarge was so relieved to see you were still alive. And it was his name you had called out! And then the fool had hit you and the blood began to flow out of you. There are no words to describe the rage he felt. Nothing could stop him from reaching you. He smashed through the idiots who dared try and stop him, ignoring the calls of his teammates. Upon seeing him the two dropped you and ran for the cars behind them.
“Agent Carolina, You see those maggots running to the cars? I want those ones personally.” He didn’t wait for her response, knowing she’d do it for him. And he was right, a blur of blue speeded past him. Knowing that was taken care of he dropped to your side. Shielding you with his body. “Where did they hurt you? Talk to me please.” He pleaded with you.
All you could manage to do was pull up what was left of your undershirt, exposing what they had done. Sobs escaped you and part of you felt pathetic for crying in front of your superior.  People like you didn’t get to cry.
“Who did this to you.”
It was not a question. It was an order.
And then you heard footsteps and dragging. The freelancer had taken down the group. You heard Carolina radio for Dr. Grey to be ready, she was holding the men who had done it to you, one in each hand. You shakily pointed to the one on her right and Sarge's vision followed your finger to the culprit.
“You hurt ‘em?” he asked while standing up.
“No I didn't, I swear! You gotta believe me!” the man pleaded. Looking back to you, asking the silent question and you nodded.
“Get rid of that one, this one's mine.” Looking at Carolina.  You looked away and flinched when she took her pistol. She put a round through the ones on the left skull.
Taking the knife Simmons was already holding out for him, he planned on repaying every favour. But, he didn't want you to see, So he asked Grif and the guys who had now caught up with them to get you in something warmer and away from this place.
They took you to a pelican where Doctor Grey had decided she was personally going to help you. She rambles on and on about how you are so strong and how it's obvious that you like the Colonel and Just confess already dammit! Grif got a laugh out of that one and if you could move he'd be very harmed.
A few moments later he and Agent Carolina arrived back on the pelican. Sarge being uncharacteristically quiet, no quip about how he saved the day or about how all pirates are dirtbags. You kinda missed it, but it was very clear he had a lot to think about. He didn't say a word the entire ride back. When you landed they rushed you immediately into a hospital room to further assess your injuries. He never would tell you about how he paced in the visitors lounge or about how he didn't sleep until he knew for sure you were stable.
When he finally did visit you it was alone. He sat in the chair beside your bed and took off his helmet. You could never get tired of seeing that face. If only he knew. And then it happened, he spoke.
"I am so sorry for not getting there sooner." It was quiet, soft in a way you did not know he knew how to speak.
"It's not your fault," you said, moving to grab his hand even though the movement hurt terribly, "Nobody could've known they would ambush us. Speaking of which, are the others ok? Did they make it back?"
He let you sit up before saying anything. "They all made it back in one piece. I- we came as fast as we could thanks to your quick thinking, that is." He looked at you and you couldn't place the emotions in his eyes. He looked so tired. You wondered when the last time he slept was.
He looked away, like he was trying to find what to say. So you took your chance, "Listen, Sarge after what's happened I learned that I should say what I need to say  more often. That I might not know if I'll regret it or not till it's too late." You take a deep breath. Preparing yourself for what you're about to say. "I really like you. Like, romantically and this is not how I imagined any of my confessions going but, it is what it is now. And I understand if you don't want to-"
"I like you too."
"W- what? Really?"
"I was just too much of a coward to admit it. I mean, I am a few years older than you and." He explained, like he just hadn't shattered and rebuilt your world in a sentence. Your head was spinning, trying to grasp what he just said. Instead of responding you motioned for him to lean in closer. And when he did you grabbed both sides of his face and kissed him. He froze for a minute before returning the kiss.
It was everything you dreamed of. Careful of your injuries he pulled you closer, deepening the kiss. And when you had to stop for oxygen he put his forehead against yours. "I'll always be here." He said in a whisper.
"I know" was all you could really say. And you know he meant every word.

thoughts on harrow the ninth chapter six
there are a few interesting points here.
the body tells harrow to lie about her age. that's interesting. that's very interesting. it acts as though the reason mercy was asking was because of how affronted she was at harrow and ianthe's youth, but considering this is someone who's been alive for millenia and can have a conversation with facial expressions, there's probably an ulterior motive. what would be significant about when harrow was born? that was, in fact, a very close time period to when gideon had arrived on the planet. so like. hmm.
another interesting point is that there's an enemy. book one was very vague about who the cohort fights. book 2 said it was the resurrection beasts, but i'm pretty sure those blokes aren't shooting space nukes like it's the fuckin' expanse. so there's an enemy force. we get a few more details later in the chapter but nothing concrete.
the third point that's interesting to me is the logistics. god left the HQ a while back. why? it's unclear. also the exact logistics of like, where is what and who is how is kinda confusing to me. where exactly is the war? i think the confusion is probably coming from how the war against some people is in a different place from the battle with the resurrection beasts.
it's also intriguing how mercy seems to imply that gilf (God I'd Like to Follow) being so close to the solar system is near-suicide. is there more reason to it than just not luring the death monsters there?
now. forty billion light years is like. really fucking big. like, there's different scales of really big, but this is a really deliberate and specific one. forty million and forty billion might give off an equal impression of "meaninglessly big number" in most contexts. but in the context of light years? forty billion is enough to say that we're far out of the reach of the universe, or at least one the age of real life's. this one could be older. but even if it is older, this is like, across the entire fucking thing, or something on that scale. at the same time, it's not so stupidly big that it trivializes the scale of a universe in the first place.
all that is significant because it does a really solid job of justifying the fact that a very special kind of FTL travel is necessary, better than the usual ones. the explanation of mechanics of the river stuff, or obelisks and steles, is all very cool, but there's not much to say about it. like some of it is explained in a vague way, but a vague where once i thought about it it just made sense instead of raising more questions.
