Moisture-wicking polyester shirt, for those of you who do the kind of training where you actually sweat, instead of taking ten minute naps between sets of 3. CRUSH OVER 2023 《我可以47》
No idea how many of you watch variety shows but I have to tell y'all my new obsession with Crush Over 2023 💪
↳ It's on Youtube and Tencent WETV with subs (the subs are little out of sync on yt, it's better on wetv)
Idol Producer, Youth with You, Chuang might not survived the purge but get ready for Produce 101 muscle edition with Donnie Yen as a host 🕺
Tumblr media
(Gif of Donnie Yen dancing on the show)
47 contestants come together to compete in multiple challenges that will test their limits.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Can't fit them all in but here's some screenshots of some of them)
The premise is a little apocalyptic cyberpunk-esque. Contestants will embark on "a journey for the true strength" upon boarding the Ark of Infinity. The voyage will last 21 days. The final ten people standing will get to fight the Infinity Ark Captain Donnie Yen Ip Man style.
Tumblr media
And that is not true, I made that up , they are not gonna have a fight but it would be hilarious if it did happen 😂
Tumblr media
One of the most enticing parts about this is that the contestants are all champions in their field. They are not influencers or traditional type of “celebrities” (apart from Santa (Into1)). They come from various backgrounds such as acrobatics, professional rock climber, firefighter, spartan, DEKA, CrossFit, MMA, UFC etc...
Tumblr media
The women in this show are absolute beasts as well, I'm in love!!! This jiejie, Zhang Yuhan, Olympic competitive swimmer. Ranked 7th in the initial exercise, making her the only women team leader in round one.
Tumblr media
Shen Yajie, professional bodybuilder. Did 100x20kg bench presses in one go, highest record amongst all players on the show.
First team challenge: Chinese chess (Xiangqi)
Director: What if, I get a bunch of meatheads to play a strategic based game 🤔
Tumblr media
And he did exactly that 😂 However! This is no ordinary game of Chinese chess. They are given an "endgame" beforehand to practice at first, they do not know which side they are on yet. The actual game will be played out on a giant board.
Tumblr media
The chess pieces' weight range from 150kg-200kg. All members are allowed to push the pieces.
Tumblr media
Each team gets 15 minutes to play. Similar to timed chess, after each turn, the player will be able to stop the timer. The timer here is located on top of a climbing wall, one of the team members will only be allowed to climb it after a move have been made.
Tumblr media
There's one catch! Each member also corresponds to a piece on the board (the opponents do not know which piece is who), if the piece is removed from the board during the game, the corresponding player will also be removed from the game. As the game goes on, losing players will slow the process of moving the heavy chess pieces.
Tumblr media
It's a race against tactics, physical strength and time. Who will checkmate first? Who will run out of time first?
Tumblr media
The show is incredibly hyped, keeps you engaged and invested in the players too. There's currently 2 episodes out (and each episode is split into 2). Do not worry that it might be tense the entire time! There's a good amount of humour laced into it!! And 6-packs obv 💪🦵
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The later exercises supposedly will mimic natural disasters such as flooding, earthquakes and sandstorms. Can't wait to see how it turns out!!

Had the realization today while writing a fic that of all the stuff in Halo, the most unrealistic part is that there aren’t any stories about all the gross stuff six year olds do to the adults around them. Poor Senior Chief Mendez absolutely had a Spartan-II trainee sneeze into his open mouth. Deja has witnessed one of her unbelievably smart charges pick their nose and eat the booger. Halsey made the mistake of allowing a kid to cuddle while they didn’t feel good and gotten a lap full of vomit.

Hi, I have a rant.
So I’m a skincare nerd, and the idea that Master Chief has significant crows feet and wrinkles shows a complete lack of understanding at how wrinkles form. You know the biggest thing that gives you wrinkles besides age? The sun.
Canonically, all the Spartan-IIs are stupidly pale because they are never out of their suits! Their skin almost never sees the sun, so the only thing that should be leading to the break down of collagen is the aging process since as we age, collagen production begins to slow. (Collagen is the protein in your skin that makes it firm and bouncy) Also, crows feet are partially caused by squinting, and the man lives inside a helmet with a built in sun visor! What is he squinting at??? His HUD???? Cortana’s tiny holographic tits???? His sense of self preservation??????
Now, that’s not to say that a fifty year old man who’s never been in the sun wouldn’t have some wrinkles going on. Like I said, our skin slows collagen production as we age. Chief should have some crows feet, but he should not look like a scraggly raisin. On top of that, remember that Chief has been in and out of cryosleep for large swathes of his life. He went in for four years between Halo 3 and 4 for criminy’s sakes! When we see him unmasked, he’s also canonically 45-ish but because of his long sleep should only appear about 40-ish. HIS FACE SHOULD ONLY BE LIGHTLY LINED WITH AGE.
Ah, but you say, what about all the stress he has lived under? Yes, a great amount of physical stress can age a person, but Spartans are augmented and trained to take high stress situations in stride. I truly doubt that stress would age the man nearly twenty years. Hell, his skin should be breakout prone since he’s eternally in a helmet and stressed - stress makes your skin oily!
Chief should not look like he’s all that much older than Lasky, hell, he should look like he’s a little bit younger than Lasky because Lasky was born a whole ass year before John-117 and Lasky got to actually go out and touch grass as a teen!
Like I know that the reason they did this is because they wanted to be able to make him look more like a gritty tough as nails Clint Eastwood gunslinger than the fucking baby-faced, milk-white Mama’s boy he is, but THAT’S NOT HOW WRINKLES WORK.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

About Chief’s nakey 🍑
Can I express how glad I am that the Spartans don’t look like they’re these hulking muscle bound dudes? Like, part of my issue with how they get described in books or some fan art is that they’re presented as looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger back in his bodybuilding days, but the muscles body builders put on are all for show.
I’ve seen informal competitions that pitted a bodybuilder, Cross fit dude, and two weightlifters against each other, and when it came to strength and stamina, body builder dude was usually around the bottom. He might be swole, but there ain’t much useful strength there.
Now, Spartans wouldn’t be built like powerlifters either, because they are hella strong, but lack endurance and speed. Powerlifters tend to have barrel-shaped bodies because you need fat to help support your abdominal muscles when lifting heavy things.
Oh, and those impressive six packs from the Marvel movies? Those actors are dehydrated and sucking in. That muscle definition is unnatural.
So the fact that Chief is presented as having some fat on his bones, and defined but not stupidly swole muscles, was nice. I loved it. Almost as much as I loved actually seeing his 🍑.

@magellanicclouds Here is the first try at the Fred Hoodie!
I ended up mixing elements from your design with real world naval uniform design. My husband is a Navy vet, and he helped me through some of my design process. It's been a lot of fun!
This is also a trial one - Mark I of the Spartan Hoodie, if you will. For one thing I messed up the arms that the rate patch and unit patches are supposed to go on - rate is on the left, unit is on the right arm. More pictures and explanations under the cut!

Others aim for vacations from weight lifting every several weeks
Those who pursue bodybuilding have different opinions on time off from weight training, with some believing that several weeks of consistent bodybuilding workouts should be followed with a break from training of at minimum one week, while others worrying about the very idea of vacation from bodybuilding, Wholesale Sterilization Pouch Sealer to the point that they try to find a workout facility even when they are on a voyage with family or friends.  The true answer to how a fitness enthusiast must deal with time off in order to avoid any significant adverse impact to muscle gains or fat loss is somewhere in the middle of these two extremes.  It's very easy to become obsessive about weight training, to the point where skipping a workout brings about fears of a substantial muscle loss or body fat gain in a brief period, and this can cause those who pursue weight lifting to actually try and avoid time off so that they can remain consistent with their weight training workouts at all times.
This to the individual who does not live a bodybuilding lifestyle seems excessive, and there is no doubt that, mentally, following such a Spartan existence can bring about depression and alienation from family and friends, so avoiding breaks from weight lifting workouts completely is never a reasonable response.Others aim for vacations from weight lifting every several weeks, performing their weight training and cardiovascular sessions for a month, and then taking a 1-2 week sabbatical from weight lifting before beginning another month long weight training and cardiovascular routine.  This technique can delay muscle building progress significantly, so I recommend, as an alternative, planning breaks from muscle building around special occasions (Christmas, visiting family), and saving unexpected time off for times when sickness surfaces (flu, injuries, etc), so that you can comfortably move away from weight lifting sessions for a couple of weeks during periods of the year when you have places to see and friends to spend time with, or when you are sidelined with an unexpected sickness or injury.
The amount of muscle lost during a break from weight training can be substantial if the time away from such workouts is excessive, so my recommended period to vacation from weight lifting is seven days, and preferably, a vacation from weight training should never exceed two weeks, as the body begins to burn muscle after 1-2 weeks (dependent upon genetics).  If you are taking a trip that requires a significant time away from your standard weight training workout routine, consider following a reduced frequency schedule, where each muscle group is trained one time every seven days with low volume, to encourage muscle maintenance during an extended period away from weight training.  This method can be used for time off from weight training that lasts any length, but is vital if your time away from weight training will exceed a two week period.  Such an approach allows for very short bodybuilding workouts that stimulate the muscle sufficiently to delay muscle loss. Many times bodybuilders believe that since muscles grow during rest, long periods away from weight lifting will cause the body to achieve superior progress compared with infrequent breaks from bodybuilding, and rest will help with muscle gains if in fact sufficient stimulation has occurred through weight training, but this also means that lengthy breaks from bodybuilding will not only remove the overload necessary for continued muscle gains, but also eventually begin to burn away muscle tissue, as the body constantly adapts to the most recent level of stress, and will begin the muscle reduction process during extended vacation breaks from bodybuilding workouts.Regarding the frequency of breaks from weight training workouts, this will depend on your lifestyle.
For maximum results, the fewer extended breaks you take, the more muscle you will gain, yet a one week break several times per year is helpful for the body and mind, but only if such periods away from weight training occur at extended intervals, with at least two months (preferably three) of consistency preceding a break from bodybuilding.  Also, do not neglect the importance of proper diet during a vacation from weight training, as abandoning ample carbohydrates or protein during vacations from weight training will cause your body to quickly reduce muscle, where otherwise only minor negative change will occur.  Most are excited about eating during vacations away from weight training, but just make sure to ingest sufficient protein during such periods, and aim for carbohydrates at maintenance levels in order to discourage unnecessary muscle loss.

When it comes to looking more muscular than you really are, getting oiled up is only ONE side of the coin. What's the other side? Well if baby oil makes the bright spots on your skin brighter, what about the darks? Making the darks darker gives the illusion of more depth, and that can be achieved with Hollywood muscle makeup or even the standard bodybuilder spray tan. Did you know that Gerard Butler used muscle makeup to increase his muscle "mass" in 300? He was also lifting weights and doing workouts behind the scenes before every shot of the movie. But when it comes to movie fight scenes, fatigued muscles from behind the scenes workouts are essentially a safety hazard. Gerard Butlers workouts behind the scenes didn't negatively affect his acting performance in 300, but for lesser actors that time between shots might be better spent getting into character. Martial arts and action movie stars aren't exactly well known for their acting prowess, are they? Bodybuilders spray tan so dark because they are allowed to darken their skin evenly over their entire body, but for fight scene legends like Jean Claude van Damme they can use movie muscle makeup to trace the contours of their muscles. Double Impact has a climax with Jean Claude van Damme vs Bolo Yeung, and to make JVCD look more impressive than the muscle monster that is Bolo, they applied layer after layer of muscle defining darkness. Did they go too far or does Jean Claude van Damme have just the right amount of muscle makeup and baby oil in his Double Impact fight scene?
