Come watch me in TBRCon's SPFBO 9 Finalists Panel today!
A Rival Most Vial is a SPFBO finalist this year, which means I get to be on TBRCon's virtual panel with the other finalists!
We'll be talking about books, muppets, probably our pets if my cat deigns to make an appearance, and we'll be taking questions from the audience!
(I'm a little nervous about it, so it would mean a lot if you came and said hey! I'd love to have some Tumblr friends there! 💕💕)
You can join the fun today, Jan 22, at 3pm CST/4pm EST here: https://youtube.com/live/MZkqYOfRuBs?feature=share

Review of The Thirteenth Hour, Book 1 of The Cruel Gods
Blurb WHEN THE SAINTS FAIL, THE SINNERS STEP UP. Cruel gods rule the steam-powered city of Chime, demanding worship and tribute from their mortal subjects. Kayl lost her faith in them long ago, and now seeks to protect vulnerable and downtrodden mortals from their gods’ whims. Huzzah! This is a great weekend if you want to fill up your e-reader with fun genre novels - including my own frothy Regency rom-com, Scales and Sensibility.
Tumblr media
First, the SPFBO Finalist Sale is collecting finalists from several years of the SPFBO competition for best self-published fantasy novel, all of them on sale this weekend for just 99c.
And for not only fantasy-lovers but also science fiction and horror fans, you can find all three genres in the Indie Narratess Sale (where most books are 99c/99p but some are also free).
Enjoy!

In this world, doubt means death.
Being different means death.
Disagreeing with those how hold power means death.

Jewels Of Smoky Quartz, by Anat Eliraz—Portal & Prophecy
Jewels Of Smoky Quartz is another great portal fantasy entrant in the SPFBO7 contest, written by another up-and-coming Middle-Eastern author!
I’m still working my way through some of my competitors’ books from SPFBO7, the indie fantasy competition that Stranger Back Home entered in 2021. One of the authors, and a friend of an author friend, agreed to a review exchange with me—and for once, I wasn’t disappointed! Jewels Of Smoky Quartz is a portal fantasy, much like Stranger Back Home. If you are unfamiliar with this sub-genre, it…

A Bitter Drink
Long time no Tumblr, folks, aha.
I put out a new book in 2021: A Bitter Drink.
A high fantasy adventure following a hedonistic, drunken plant man who catches a fellow member of Court plotting treason, and instead of turning this person in, tries to blackmail instead. It goes sideways, and Rowan has to join a vagabond human, a spy elf, and a soothing dwarf to try and make things right. But Rowan’s heart isn’t in it: he’s a coward and he knows it. To change his true nature is a bitter drink indeed.
A Bitter Drink is an #SPFBO 8 semifinalist & heading to the finals for the #IndieInkAwards Bisexual Rep & Nonbinary Rep awards.
You can grab a copy here: https://www.amazon.com/Bitter-Drink-Azalea-Forrest-ebook/dp/B09FFHXN5B

An Altar on the Village Green
So what the heck is it, anyway? Figured I'd make a post about it so that people here have some idea of what I do.
It's a Dark Souls-inspired Fantasy/Horror novel where death isn't the end, madness waits in the shadows, and only one person is left who might be able to stave off the slow death of the world.
It features bonfire-like checkpoints, respawning on death, a healing flask, and a naïve Epic Fantasy hero tossed into a Horror story. If they survive long enough, they may just be able to make a difference for the poor village trapped in an endless cycle of terror and death.
Book one of The Chained God. Semi-finalist in SPFBO 8, available for free on Kindle Unlimited.

Today our judges review Ryan Kirk's The Last Fang of God for this year's Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off (SPFBO) finals! 🐉
"[The] gritty, dark world with cruel gods who dictate the acts of humans, while still being pitiful as heck, and almost as demanding as the landscape, was well done."

Review of The Bachelor's Valet (Flos Magicae 2) by Arden Powell
Blurb Alphonse Hollyhock is blessed with wealth, class, and more beauty than brains. Though he hasn’t got a lick of wit or magic to his name, he’s perfectly content living life as an airheaded bachelor with his valet—the clever, unflappable Jacobi—by his side to ensure everything runs smoothly. All he lacks, according to his mother, is a wife.Despite Alphonse’s protests, he’s to marry Aaliyah…
