With such a God-focused season, one day, once Junior Year is finished and I have both the time and energy to do it, I want to make a Fantasy High God AU zine. It'd be from the pov of a mythologist/theologian in Spyre who's found strange links between minor deities throughout different regions' pantheons.

Half-Elves have a God of Dance and Flames who has been said to have defeated a Tiefling vagabond (and tamed his Hellhound mount) and charmed Fire itself with only a dance and his silk battle sheet. And if you look deep enough into his history there are rare depictions of him wearing an oddly shaped pendant and riding into battle with a sling-wielding Goblin peeking out of his rucksack. Interestingly enough, there's a minor Goblin God of Justice and Mysteries, the son of a Goblin Folk Hero and the Goblin Goddess of Knowledge, Laws, and Justice, who famously wields his father's enchanted sling. Though he and his father are often shown with angelic wings. So, why would he dally with a God so closely associated with Fiends?

Tieflings have a trickster Goddess of Music, Rebellion, and Devotion. The daughter of an Archdevil and a Wood Elven Goddess of Archery & the Wilderness. She's said to be a paramour of a Half-Phoenix Pirate Goddess of Wizardry and Knowledge and once toured the lands, performing with a Half-Orc companion. A lot of artistic recreations of that tour depict the Half-Orc companion with flower motifs that correspond with a Gnomish/Half-Orcish God of Tinkering and Rage. One that once outwitted a Sphynx and regained his spurned Saytr paramour's love by speaking to/reaching the stars with the help of a band of Tinkerer Gnomes.

There are tales of a Twice Risen Goddess who was once the chosen one of the Demigod Helio, but took one look at him and thought she could do better. With the wisdom to raise Gods from the dead and remove unholy rites without any divine power other than her own, this God-Saint of Doubt travels across Spyre not to spread her own religion but to inquire about others. This deep curiosity is probably how she ended up in some Fallinel depictions of the First Elven Oracle, who upon death ascended to becoming the Goddess of Sight, Intelligence and Righteous Fury. There are even short hymns written about the Oracle foreseeing the God-Saint's rise (against the Elven Moon Goddess' wishes) and of the God-Saint banishing some dark entity from possessing the Oracle with only a profane curse of its name.

And even more stuff connecting them all. Like the fact that all of them have tales of them defeating an Ancient Red Dragon. Or the tales of The Festival of the Crab King: a strange, delirious story of mortals witnessing a euphoric revelry of the deific kind that involved all these Gods from different pantheons.

The one who you truly can't have pets around is Vesper. He laments to inform you that animal populations in Lust are kept to a very controlled minimum. His Ring is a zone of constant sexual depravity, even the streets are unabashed erotic grounds, no one wants old Fido hanging around. Vesper's mansion is likewise a place of constant lavish sex, your poor pets wouldn't have a place to live normally.

Zizz demands that whatever animal you have never ever lay a claw on one of the blankets/pillows/plushies in the main bed chambers. The plush monsters might retaliate, and no one wants to see the outcome of that...

Vorticia would urge you not to bring small animals near her or any of her children. While they're less likely to act on hungry impulse than her, the chances of there being a tragedy are still very high in general.

Livius, as you know, will act out if your pets receive more attention than him. Enough said about his ability to care for animals.

Rinx loves pets! Why he has so many! It's just that... He tends to forget about them. And who knows what happens to them afterwards, right? Eh, take proper care of them, make sure they don't destroy his property too much and all will be fine.

Cero isn't much of an animal lover, but he does like cats, especially sphynx cats. You might be in luck, they'll certainly have the most gourmet of treatments.

Kalymir loves animals! But, well, the kind of animals he keeps around are very incompatible with a simple house cat. Between his giant magma lizards, the war steeds he keeps around, not to mention the hellhounds... Well, are you sure your kitty can make it unharmed?

Writeblr Intro

Hi, so I've been a part of tumblr for quite some time but I've only really begun to be active again in the last month or so. I figured given my long absence perhaps it was time to introduce myself and open up to connecting with other writers here.

So who am I?

My name is Sasha Hanton (She/Her), I'm the author of It's All Magic To Me which was originally released in May 2022. For a long time, I struggled with openly describing myself as a person of colour, coming from a mixed-race background it's always been a bit strange figuring out how to define myself. However I now feel more confident in how I describe and define myself.

I'm Australian but I have Eurasian heritage, meaning my family come from a combination of Asian and European backgrounds. I know some people don't like the term Eurasian, and that's perfectly fine you don't have to label yourself with something you don't identify with but for me, I'm proud to call myself Eurasian. My family have identified as Eurasian for more than three generations now, and we've always been proud of our mixed ancestry (feel free to ask me more about this if you're interested).

Coming from a mixed background I like to bring that mix into my writing, injecting influences from a variety of cultures and mythologies. Whilst I'm a cis, heterosexual, neurotypical woman I try my best to be an ally and am always happy to bring more diversity into my writing and to read more diverse stories (if you know any good books by diverse authors please send me your recommendations I'm always happy to build up my tbr).

My writing

Currently, I'm in the limbo of waiting for feedback on projects and I generally try to stick to having one WIP on the go at a time (as otherwise I'm prone to overwhelm) . Predominately I write urban fantasy, generally with new adult-aged characters but written to be middle-grade and up friendly. Here's a quick breakdown of my works:

It's All Magic To Me - This is my novel, originally published under contract in 2022 but now out of contract and out of print but I will be re-releasing it in May 2025. It follows Willow, a university student, who discovers she has magical powers and goes on to be taught how to use them by Sphynx, a cat. Urban Fantasy inspired by the likes of Buffy, Charmed, Sailor Moon, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Themes involve family, responsibilities, and friendship. Venatores de Mythos Trilogy - My major WIP at the moment, I've written drafts for all three books but am waiting on feedback for book 1 before continuing editing. Urban Fantasy, follows three different characters who are all recruited by a mysterious agency that hunts and tracks down mythological creatures and artifacts. Globetrotting features a mixture of languages (Arabic, French, and Spanish with the main composition being in English). The main characters are from varying cultural backgrounds, each wildly different from the other with their own reasons for agreeing to join the agency. Percy Jackson kind of vibes. Chimera - Currently in the process of writing the first draft. Inspired by a short story I wrote for a recent competition following a mixed race, mixed species, witch and her family who are being hunted for parts. Dark Urban fantasy based in Australia, will feature lots of mythological influences. Adult because there's body horror, probably going to be some explicit sex scenes (not sure yet), and just generally dealing with heavier/darker themes. The Short Story Press Collection - A collection of short stories, currently available as an e-book on Amazon or in print (the print edition is newer and contains more stories than the e-book). Stories cover a range of genres from sci-fi, fantasy, gothic horror and more. Customerpocalypse - My first novel, currently available as an e-book on Amazon. Post-apocalyptic fantasy, written during a time when I was struggling with my mental health and it shows. If you've ever wondered why in post-apocalyptic video games there are NPCs who work in what's basically customer service then this might be for you.

What would intermission Poo's dnd character be like... 👀

Poo's jam-packed schedule of anthropology classes and political obligations keeps him way too busy to attend D&D sessions on the regular, but he makes up for it by bringing all kinds of wildly innovative characters to one-shots and mini-campaigns. He'll roll up packing a dark elf that wields holy magic, or a sphynx tabaxi who works as a fur trader, or a flying air genasi whose fatal flaw is that she's terrified of heights. He likes to play guys with funny contradictions, bombastic personalities, and the occasional double-life kinda backstory. I'd like to imagine he's got a whole revolving rogues' gallery of characters - all of whom he roleplays with a brilliant degree of improvisational charm (kinda like how he can mimic any enemy on the fly in EarthBound). In his daily life he's such a strictly disciplined guy, burdened by expectations & responsibilities & specific manners he's gotta maintain. So I think when he gets to chill out and play tabletops with his friends, he likes taking the opportunity to be outta-the-box and spontaneous as hell. Whenever Poo's able to make it to a session, his pals're always chomping at the bit to see which character he's gonna bring, or if it'll be someone brand new. (Kinda like how he pops in and out of the party in EarthBound that one time... And how he's such a late addition to the squad, but he so quickly manages to fit right in.)

Aubrey finds them highly charming. If you pointed out to him that they looked funny, he would laugh and say 'I guess...'

Vesa finds them very cool, and is curious about how it feels to pet them!

Narciso agrees with you - they do look funny. This isn't anything negative, though. He doesn't mind funny at all. Funny is... well, fun.

I promised Q's impressions on Bond, so.... Q's favourite things about Bond

Resilience. The thing that first stood out to Q, once he learned to know Bond a bit more than just by name and reputation, was the agent's incredible ability to bounce back from anything. Mental and physical trauma; gunshot wounds, cuts, bruises, broken bones, various forms of torture, actual goddamn deaths twice over... abandonment, betrayals, emotional blows, he's been through it all. And it barely seems to slow him down. Granted, all of it has left scars, some more visible than others. For all his heroics, Bond is still very human, and sometimes, breakable. Q has become intimately familiar with all the breaks and cracks in his armour. He considers it an honour to have been allowed to see and touch them, and help Bond put them where they belong - in the past.

Dedication. Q has never met anyone, save for maybe the former M, who has taken his duty to Queen and Country so seriously. It surprises him, knowing that, to see how far Bond's loyalty stretches also beyond the boundaries of official service. He's ready to risk his life and gamble everything for the cause, whatever it might be, whoever the people involved, as long as he thinks he knows and trusts them. And Q knows Bond doesn't actually have a death wish - if he did, he wouldn't fight tooth and nail to return every time (see the first point on Q's list). He doesn't really like that trait of Bond's, but he can admire it, all the same.

Style. Even if it's a bit embarrassing to admit, it's the truth: Q was very much attracted to Bond the moment he laid eyes on him. It wasn't in front of the Turner painting when they first spoke as Quartermaster and his agent, but three years earlier. Following a promotion, he'd ended up delivering newly developed signal scramblers to four of the double-o's at a black-tie event. That was it. Amidst all the splendour and people dressed to the nines, Bond had still stood out at first glance. He owned the space. And he still does, where ever he goes. Despite his expensive and luxurious taste in everything from the clothes he wears to the cars he drives to the foods he likes and the products he uses, it's somehow never excessive. Bond is very practical and on point with his style, and it's emphasised by his poise and manners, always appropriate. Q is a bit envious of all that.

All right, fine. It has to be on the list, so... Bond's widely acknowledged sex appeal. Q's by no means immune, on the contrary, although he often needs to pretend uninterested and that's all kinds of funny. Bond, the bastard that he is, sometimes flusters him on purpose. Yes, even at work. He'd be much more annoyed, if it wasn't for the fact that he eventually gets to enjoy the benefits of Bond actually keeping what he promises. He's not the jealous type, good for him, because otherwise his life would surely be miserable. Truth be told, after getting over the initial bouts of insecurity in the beginning of their... arrangement, he actually gets a little bit of a kick out of watching women and even some men fall for Bond's charm left and right, and knowing he's the one.

Intelligence. Q thinks of Bond as a kind of modern Renaissance Man, a multi-talented individual who excels in anything he sets his mind to, and besides the impressive array of practical skills, has a vast knowledge of variety of subjects - which, to Q's surprise, include computer sciences and some hacking. Bond's thirst for knowledge seems insatiable, and that's the biggest turn-on for Q. Bond is by far the most interesting, witty conversationalist Q's ever tried dating.

Physique, period. That's not being shallow, if he listed intellectual prowess just above it, is it?

Good with cats. A dealbreaker, in itself, but Bond takes even this above and beyond. He's not even a cat person, really, but he takes excellent care of them when needed, and owing to his curiosity about the Sphynx in particular, knows more than a thing or two including how to spot and treat any potential health concerns.

Tenderness. For a man who lives and breathes violence, the contrast is striking when he's with someone he cares about and trusts. Q had noticed, even before they'd ended up sleeping together, that Bond often used touch more than words to entice and seduce. He'd been convinced it was a practised skill, just another move in his deadly arsenal. Until. Until the very first intimate touches they had shared, and he'd noticed the strong, calloused fingers trembling against his skin. Neither of them had said anything, but Q had known that he'd never be the same, after.

Three notes on Miraculous Ladybug: Rise of the Sphynx

Yes, I finally bought a console, and so now I'm catching up on the important game releases I missed.

I'm no good at fighting games where I have to dodge and parry. There's been one exception, Infinity Blade on iOS (doesn't exist anymore). I suck at this one as well. Took two tries for Mister Pigeon (the tutorial boss), and got only a one-star rating for him.

It's kind of amazing how bad the graphics are. The style is charming and nice, but the lighting is terrible, and the eyes of all characters are so lifeless, and all the specular highlights are washed out white. And it's got frame rate issues in the cut scenes! In this day and age! People could do this better twenty years ago.

It all fits together lore-wise, though: The white isolation chamber Adrien is in during the finale of season 5? I assume that's where he goes when you press the "switch character" button in this game.

The Legend of Vox Machina: The Trials of Vasselheim (2x02)

I've got to say, this show is bringing such joy into my life right now...

Cons:

I thought visually that Vasselheim wasn't quite as cool looking as I wanted it to be? Individual details were cool, but the first view of the city as a whole, that first big sweeping view, wasn't quite as impressive as what we saw of Emon or even Whitestone. I don't know, maybe I need to re-watch to appreciate it more.

This is an exposition-heavy episode, what with Highbearer Vord briefly meeting Vox Machina just to tell them no, then to the Slayer's Take, then down to see Osysa. It's a lot of information imparted very quickly, about the ancient history of this world, and setting up the Vestiges of Divergence fetch quest, and meanwhile we're cutting back to Grog's subplot. So once again I'm in the position of saying I enjoyed all the individual things I was seeing, but wish there was another five minutes so the transitions between all these different scenes and characters and concepts could have a bit more breathing room.

Pros:

But let's actually start with the Grog subplot stuff, because honestly I'm pretty impressed so far! Grog is a character who I think might be particularly hard to translate from stream to screen. It's the way Grog's utter stupidity is contrasted with Travis' performance of it, the way he is so very much in on the joke the whole way through. You can't really translate that to animated form. And yet, I think they've done a decent job! He's affable and ridiculous and sweet and also super violent, all of these things mixed together. He's too stupid to realize his evil magic sword is talking to him, even after Gilmore points out that it's sinister and Groon tells him it's a weakness to rely on it. But he's also smart enough to realize he's being asked a trick question during his trial with Groon, even if he can't quite get to the answer Groon is looking for.

I've got to say, the Grog butterfly meme moment was fucking hilarious to me, I don't care how stupid it is. I also really liked the moment when he asked Groon if perhaps he'd been told his name and then forgotten, as I think it shows that Grog, while not much of a thinker, does have some self-awareness about his own limitations. As a bonus, this episode also includes the famous Critter greeting, which is Grog's mishearing of the words "good day," as "bidet." It's so charming and funny and sweet that they managed to include that in there for us.

Also a nice little treat was getting to see Victor, although I was a little confused as to whether the explosion at the end was meant to be the demise of that character, or whether he'll get to have his heroic participation in the endgame too. Who knows. Either way, hearing Matt do that ridiculous voice was such a delight. And we get to be reminded of Anna Ripley, that lingering threat...

And then there's the Slayer's Take! I love the way they folded in the backstory that the show skipped over, incorporating it as part of Vex and Vax's past. Such a smart way to have Zahra feel like a familiar, established character, and get the purpose and function of the Slayer's Take established easily and seamlessly. Kash is one of my favorite side characters from all of Critical Role. Zahra too, but I just love Kash's dry delivery and snarky one-liners. The way he flatly expressed his disinterest in Vex's flirting was great. And the arrow through the wanted poster of the twins... what a jerk! In the best way, of course.

Instead of a bar-room brawl between Vox Machina and the Slayer's Take, instead we get a visit to Osysa, an ancient Sphynx who sponsors the Slayer's Take and acts as a representative for the Knowing Mistress on Exandria. Here, we get a test of wills, as all of the various members of Vox Machina confront their fears. I like how extremely fantasy-tropey this whole segment was, but I was also just so, so impressed with how Osysa's insight and delivery told us so much about the characters so succinctly. Keyleth fears failing her Aramente, she also fears becoming an Archdruid and outliving her support system. Vex seeks approval from a distant father. Vax relies entirely on his sister. Percy wallows in self-pity and yearns for forgiveness. Pike worries about saving her loved ones. And Scanlan... well, nobody cares about Scanlan, you see. (FUCK this is gonna hurt. If you know, you know.)

Once Pike leads the way in standing her ground and demanding to be heard, Osysa gives them the guidance they need. She explains about the Vestiges of Divergence, sending our heroes on a fetch quest to find powerful items to help defeat the dragon. The animation in showing the Vestiges, the history of the Calamity, was so beautiful and strange, and Osysa was so sinister and mysterious and gorgeous. This season feels a lot more D&D-ish, in a lot of ways, than season one did. We've got dragons, and now we've got this mission where our heroes need to track down magic items to save the day. I don't say that as a criticism, I actually kind of love it. I know where this is all going, broadly, but I continue to be delighted by the clever way they streamline, rearrange, cut, and add to this animated show!

Okay, onward to episode three. I'm sure everything will be fine. I'm sure I won't burst into tears at all.

New short coming up! CAT CAPSULE

Hello everyone!! Exciting news I'm about to share, not to me, but I'm working on hyping myself up so HERE!

I'M WORKING ON A NEW ANIMATED SHORT FILM!!!

(I'm saying new because I already did one last year, which you should totally check out by the way, still proud of it.)

This short is about two treasure hunting sphynx cats!! from space!! The tall, stoic cat is named Boris. And the shorter one is named Bingus!

yeah yknow, bingus, like... like that one cat.

This short is being made with a friend in college. We've been with this since march, we still have a sizeable chunk to go but we're doing it!!! i think It's going to feature more or less: -TWO AND A HALF MINUTES OF PLANTS, GARBAGE AND -BALDNESS -INCONSISTENT BUT HOPEFULLY STILL CHARMING ANIMATION -LOVELY HAND CRAFTED SCENERY OF THE WORLD AFTER I WIN -EITHER REALLY GOOD VOICE ACTING OR REALLY DISORIENTING DEPENDING IF YOU UNDERSTAND HUMAN LANGUAGE -MUSIC THAT SOUNDS LIKE SOME SONGS FROM COWBOY BEBOP BUT NOT AS IN JAZZ -a fucked up looking dog

The deadline is mid december, but you'll be able to see it later after we polish it and dub it to english. Maybe mid to late january?

Exile, exile!

Do you want any possible animal companions in the future, like how the postman has Wick and the seer has Brooke? If so, what kind and what would you name them? Also, what do you think about said other’s animal companions?

"Oh? Animals?"

The young woman fell silent for a moment, clicking her nails distractedly against the surface of their pendant as she waited for her brain to start working. There were a lot of options to consider, but one had always stuck out to her.

"I don't need a companion animal quite like those two, with their jobs and such, but I think I'd like a cat if given the chance. They have all different sorts of charms, but what's most appealing to me is the simplest - they're cute, warm and fluffy. Most of the time. Sphynx cats are not appealing to me in the least."

She chuckled, hands pausing their fidgeting as she was asked the second part of the question.

"As for Brooke Rose and Wick... that's interesting. While I have nothing against the latter, and they're wonderfully friendly, I think they're often too much to handle. They insist on jumping up on people to deliver their letters, and that startles me terribly. I've had a few occasions where I've had to call Victor for help because I feel they're going to knock me over and they don't listen to my commands. Not that I'd expect them to...

Brooke Rose is lovely, and she's helped me out many a time, but I cannot deny the fact that she's a seeing-eye animal. I'd pet her if I could, but there's always the possibility that Mister Clark may need her, so I don't like to intrude on her space if I can help it."
