Hey everyone! Happy 2024! It's the start of the new year and the perfect time to share some news with you!

New Year, New Look!

We've rolled out new banners, PFPs, etc., to welcome the new year. If you notice, the 10 fics in the banner are different from the top 10 of 2023. That's because the banner is updated quarterly. Each quarter, the new top 10 will be reflected in order from first (top left) to tenth (bottom right) place. So these are your top ten for the 4th quarter of 2023. Check back in April to see how your favorites stack up!

Changes to Throwback Thursday

We're throwing the Thursday away... kind of. Effective immediately, you can post your throwback fics or art between Thursday and Sunday. Yep, art will now be included! I love your writing! Just curious from a writer perspective, how did you fall into writing OCs specifically and how do you usually make time for it (if you have a regular day job)?

Thanks, glad you enjoy my fics! My introduction to OC fanfiction was Silver Queen's Dreaming of Sunshine years and years ago, so the interest in OCs started from there, I'd say. I've fallen out of the fandom since, but the preference for OC fics has persisted lol.

My work allows me to have a fairly flexible schedule, but things still get quite busy at times. I just try to squeeze the time to write whenever I can -like most writers do, I'd presume. I also try to set aside time on the weekend for writing, although that can be hit or miss depending on ongoing RL activities.

The weekly updates started as the result of a personal goal I've established for myself to update consistently while JJK season 2 is airing, which has included several instances of late-night writing when I usually would've been sleeping instead haha.

PSA: This is week 7 of my ongoing Herondaisy and Thomastair drabble collections.

I put a random number on Ao3 for how many chapters there would be, and that number was 6 months' worth of drabbles. However, as I want to work on longer fics and am rather a mood-writer, the drabbles are beginning to become more of a chore than a fun thing for me. I would also be remiss if I didn't say that the long-term 🚫 on Ao3 was not a massive stressor for me, and updating on a regular weekly schedule means that there's no hope of getting rid of it until the week number elapses.

As such, I will be discontinuing both drabble collections after week 10.

Please don't be too upset if you're reading. Thomastair and Herondaisy are still my 2 most-written ships and will continue to be, and I have TONS of amazing ideas for both one-shots and multichapters about them (and, of course, Matthew.) I also will probably periodically open my ask box for drabble requests when I feel like I just want to sit and write drabbles (as I had a LOT of fun with when I wrote Carol of the Bells).

Some project updates:

I finally finished writing “The Secret of Us”, and will be posting weekly chapter updates until March.

Meanwhile this month I need to buckle down and focus on my Daikeru Day fic, which I haven’t even started planning yet. Daikeru Day is March 11 💖 I hope to see some of you post amazing stuff that day!

Depending on how long that takes, I might be able to squeeze in an update on “So Come and Dance with Me” somewhere in February. I don’t want to promise anything though. Chapter 3 is halfway done so at least I have something to get back to when my Daikeru Day fic is done.

If you’re a fan of my ongoing fic “Somewhere Only We Know”, I’m so so sorry it’s been a long stretch of months since I updated that. I keep following other muses instead of working on it, but I promise it will not be abandoned. I have over half of the next chapter written, so it’s definitely still happening

I’m so beyond grateful to everyone who reads my Digimon fanfiction. I hope you know it means a lot to me, since fic writing is what continues to glue me to this fandom and Digimon in general. Thanks for you support!

Trickster's Blog Update

Hey everyone! As it is the start of a new year, I wanted to give you guys a heads up about a slight shift in this blog. Most of you know I write fanfic (recently Teen Wolf) and I will continue to do so, but I am currently giving most of my attention to an original project I am planning to publish.

Project Zander is a story about hree teens from an alternate 1940′s Texas (pagan gods, magic, cowboys and dragons, etc.) who are transported 900 years in the future during an airship crash. Using the skills their undertaker mentors taught them, they struggle to navigate their new world while coming up against cultural barriers, brainwashing monks, twisted magic, unresolved grief, and being stalked by the Wanderer, the only surviving god from their old world.

This will be tagged as #project zander and I plan to blog about the writing process and project progress.

I'm also going to start up some weekly posts instead of just strictly reblogging stuff. The reblogging will still happen, but I want to do some of my own content. At the moment I'm thinking of doing

“When is Rinky updating her Mikannie fics?” part 2, electric boogaloo

Fight Like a Girl (ongoing): I am currently struggling to revise chapter 37 and it is now in the hands of beta readers. Update when? I hope long before AUGUST ends! I still think I can finish Flag this year! That’s my main writing goal. I’ve been having some writing fatigue during pandemic, it’s getting better. half (discontinued?): I had big plans for this Mikannie vampire and vampire hunter fic, but I’m not keen on revising the next 9 chapters and then drafting and THEN revising the 20 chapters after that. this fic was a labor of love and hyperlinks. it will sit on ao3 and I will wistfully dream of completing it for the rest of my days. maybe someday ^_^ I’m content for now that it’s remembered fondly(?) by one twitter user as (paraphrase) “that fic where Mikasa lets Annie drink her chicken’s blood” (A/N: inaccurate but close! Annie is less a vampire and more like a ghoul who unhinges her jaw like a snake! but i’m flattered to have earned this chicken’s blood legacy haha)

Hanahaki WIP (unposted): I’ve talked about this fic a while ago, which in it’s first full draft is a dozen or so semi-revised chapters. No idea when I’ll be done, but I have some promising material :) Annie has hanahaki disease and Mikasa is her clueless doctor and love interest. Will be posted AFTER I revise all chapters, so I can update weekly :) secret WIP (unposted and ssssecret): this is the fic I’m most excited about, a very dark Mikannie fic drawing on their canon hatred/rivalry. Like the hanahaki fic, I am revising it in full before posting so that I can confidently give you one chapter per week :)

Decided to do a little fic rec list, since I’m reaching the rereading phase of my ironstrange obsession.

Stephen is unsatisfied with the state of the world after the defeat of Thanos. An encounter with Morgan Stark, has him drowning in guilt. He finds a way to go back in time. First to after the first snap and picks up Tony when Pepper is pregnant, then they go further back and pick up Loki from the beginning of Infinity War. The three return back to just before Iron Man 2 and make changes to avoid the future Stephen came from. (this is one that really hurts that it will likely never be completed. It’s just so good! Especially the beautifully growing bond between Stephen and Tony)

A Blast to the Past by SassyAngel (unfinished)

Tony snaps in Endgame to get rid of Thanos. He’s somehow thrown back into the past, just before Civil War. Stephen shows up, sensing the infinity stones which are still in the gauntlet and demands an explanation. Tony is vague with his answers, intent on doing everything on his own but eventually let’s Stephen in(he’s pretty persistent). Tony builds a new team and gains the family he’s wanted and builds a better future for himself.

(this is the fic series that got me hooked on time travel fix it fics. It’s so good and so intricate and their are four parts and they are all complete!!!)

Tony comes to Stephen for help with the civil war. Stephen reluctantly refuses and comes to regret it. Using a spell to save Tony, things continue up to Infinity Way, ending up with them losing in a very different way and the infinity stones intervene, giving them a chance to redo Infinity War. (the whole reason for this fic still cracks me up. I have never seen such determination to explain a weird moment with a certain character)

Tether by Shortsnout (complete)

On the flying donut, headed towards Titan, Stephen ends up jumping back and forth through time, learning more and more about Tony. (this one was so interesting and such a different way of having Stephen fall in love with Tony. most use the 14 mil futures for his love but I gotta say this was a great and fresh take on that concept.)

We Can Do Better by Zeethulhu (ongoing. updated weekly)

Infinity War ends up being the losing timeline and not giving up, Stephen manages to send himself and Tony to the past to the moments of their births. The two grow up separately and together and make changes along the way, making sure that they will win against Thanos next time. ( man, this fic. this fic right here. i have no words for how amazing this story is. Usually, i can’t stand pre-canon fics but this one has made me want to go back to all the college and high school aus i skipped. this story is super long and it just now reached the first Iron Man but it is worth it. the journey is amazing!)

After Tony’s funeral, guilt-ridden Stephen makes a bitter Friday a body and sends her into the past before Age of Ultron. As Tony Stark’s daughter, she works to change the future and make sure her Boss doesn’t die this time around. (i had skipped this one before because, i couldn’t wrap my head around Friday being a main character but De Novo changed that for me. I really liked the development she went through, especially with how she regards Stephen and it was a nice change of pace to see things from an AI’s perceptive and how Tony having a daughter shifts things.)

Well, that’s pretty much it for the time travel ones. I may have missed some but these really stood out to me.

I many do another rec list for fics that have Stephen present in Tony’s life from the beginning(Iron Man). There are some really good ones for that plot point.

Off the top of my head definitions of indefinable things by w_space is one of the really good ones. (frustratingly unfinished though)

Evan Buckley is 18 when he learns about an older brother he never knew, and the lengths to which his parents went to try and save him. What they were willing to risk. What they were willing to trade. He's 18 when he learns that he he only has twelve years left before the deal his parents made to try and save his brother--the deal that cursed him, the deal that didn't even work--comes to its conclusion, and the magic that has always flowed through him so much more strongly than it should is drained by the Fae that his parents sought out.

Evan Buckley is 18 when he learns that in twelve years he is going to die.

Now, he has only two goals: do some good with the time he has left, and minimize the damage his death will do to the people he cares about. He thinks he's doing an okay job--until Eddie Diaz joins the 118. Buck knows the walls he's put up aren't the strongest, but he wasn't counting on a werewolf and his adorable son to just blow them to smithereens. But it doesn't matter how he feels about Eddie. The Changeling Child curse is impossible to break.

They’ve done the not talking thing before and it almost ruined them, almost drove both of them to edges that they wouldn’t have been able to come back from. But this - it isn’t too late to talk about this.

“Buck, I-“ Eddie tries, but then Buck is sitting up and rolling out of bed - searching through the pile of clothes on the floor to find his own.

“Don’t worry,” he says, an easy grin on his face. “This doesn’t change anything with us.” (Or, the friends with benefits fic that no one asked for.)

Eddie fights against consciousness, but it wins, dragging him out of sleep to stare at the ceiling. He looks around the dark bunk room, but there’s no noise, no light that would have woken him up. Everything is still, dark and quiet.

He rolls over toward Buck’s bunk to see the covers pushed back and an empty spot where Buck had been sleeping. The beds are so close that, if he rolls to the edge of his and stretches, he can feel just enough of Buck’s to tell that it’s cold.

He’s been gone a while.

this fic hits a little too close to home as someone who didn’t get diagnosed with adhd until i was in my late 20s, so a lot of the mixed up emotions here are very real, but eddie’s support through all of it is the softest thing. it says in progress but these are one shots so your fine to read then without worrying about a cliffhanger.

The combination of recently moving house, finally truly living as a single parent – who hasn’t managed to set up appropriate childcare yet – and beginning a new job as a firefighter has meant the walls he’s so steadfastly built up around himself to hold himself together since he first came home are starting to crumble.

And of course, because the universe is always looking for new ways to fuck with Eddie, all of this stress and anxiety has decided to take the form of the worst possible symptom a single father who works 24 hour shifts could experience

It’s past 3am and Eddie is scrolling mindlessly on his phone when he first stumbles across the ad. Some people, when they go online shopping at night, buy things they don’t need. Like a Fitbit or a novelty t-shirt.
