On a crowded street in 1944 - Epilogue
Tumblr media
Summary - The four walls of Upton’s General Store were all Hailey knew although she longed to see what else life had to offer. When a handsome soldier walks through the door, she thinks he might just be the answer to the life she wants to have. But it was 1944 and the country was at war. Would fate smile on her or would her heart be another casualty of the war?
Chapters - 15/16
Notes - I can’t believe we’ve reached the epilogue of this little story, the bonus chapter will be posted on Wednesday 🫶🏻 AO3 Link
Hailey Halstead was now a married woman.
She woke up every morning with Jay’s arm around her waist, his warm body pressed against her back in their double bed tucked into the corner of their small bedroom. Every morning Jay would get up and make her a cup of coffee exactly how she liked it and would bring it to her in bed with a gentle kiss to her lips in greeting.
He would head out to work with his brother and would be out all day until the sun had set. They were setting up a clinic in one of the poorer neighbourhoods of the city to provide some much needed healthcare to those in need. The aftermath of the war had left a lot of families struggling when the breadwinner hadn’t returned from the front so the Halstead brothers had decided they wanted to make a difference to their community.
They had a little money put aside that their mother had left for them when she’d passed and much to Hailey’s surprise, Oscar had gifted them some money for a down payment on a storefront as well. Her suspicions about him being a good man were true and he was trying to make a name for himself in the city out from under his fathers prying gaze.
It was slow going to get the inhabitants of the area to trust that Jay and Will had their best interests at heart, that they wouldn’t be reporting people to the authorities or charging extortionate fees for simple procedures. They couldn’t offer the same as a hospital but Will had taught Jay everything he knew from the Medic Corps and both had seen more than their fair share of injuries in the war to be able to help and patch up those who needed them to.
Hailey was incredibly proud of her husband and would stroll down to the storefront, still missing a sign as costs were being invested elsewhere, with lunch for the two men everyday. Will would welcome her with a warm smile and a loud call of her name and Jay would appear from the back and give her a kiss in greeting and introduce her proudly as his wife to anyone in the waiting room. She left everyday with a smile larger than when she walked in the door.
She herself had started on a typing course. The local college had seen a drop in their course subscriptions so had offered a discounted offer for their part time course and Hailey had been the first name on the list. Jay had held her hand as she went to sign up, his pride evident from the smile on his face.
She supported him and he was her biggest cheerleader. It was everything Hailey had ever dreamt about.
Her relationship with her father had evaporated, if he saw them on the street he wouldn’t even acknowledge her.
At first it had been painful . Hailey had cried herself to sleep in the arms of her husband on multiple nights until she realised that it was a waste of her tears. He was a waste of her tears. She had given her father years of her life and when she had asked him for support for her happiness, he had turned his back. It was his loss.
Jay was her family now.
She still saw her mother, she came round for tea twice a month, usually when her father was out at meetings but Hailey assumed he must know what his wife was doing. Hailey was grateful to still be in touch with her mother though and the smile she wore when she entered Hailey’s apartment was one of genuine joy and happiness.
Life wasn’t always easy and money could be tight on occasion but getting to share her life with Jay meant the worries didn’t concern her as much as they might. They were together and they could face whatever cards they were dealt. They had survived a war, separation and an engagement with another man. They could survive whatever else was thrown their way as well.
And if they ever needed to be reminded, tucked into a box in the back of the wardrobe were the letters they had written to each other during the early days of their relationship. They got them out on occasion, along with the photographs that were now starting to gain numbers in the box as well. The first one was the portrait that Mr Richards had taken of Hailey to send to Jay, its edges were frayed and torn but Jay still said it was his favourite picture of her - it was the one that had kept him safe. There was a photograph of them both alongside Will out the front of the clinic on opening day. There was one of the wedding photographs in the box, the one of just the two of them, the loving look they were giving each other radiating even from the still image. The one of them both alongside Will and her mother was framed on the mantelpiece. Mr Richards had given them to them as a wedding present.
They would fill the box with more pictures; of memories and moments they would share together. And one day when they were old and grey, they’d get them all out, perhaps surrounded by their children and grandchildren and tell them all about how they had fallen in love and about the life they lived.
Hailey had never imagined she could be this happy but everyday she still dropped to her knees and prayed alongside her husband that they would continue to be this happy together. God hadn’t let her down yet and she didn’t imagine he was going to now - he had brought her love home to her after all.

Coherence (2013) Ending Explained
Tumblr media
Coherence (2013) is an American surreal science fiction psychological thriller film directed by James Ward Byrkit. It stars Emily Foxler as a lead.
Coherence (2013) Ending Explained and Plot Story in Details
* * * Spoiler Alert – If you haven’t seen the movie yet, turn back now! * * * Emily is talking with Kevin over the phone; Kevin says he was in a lawyer's bar. Suddenly Em doesn't get any sound from the other side, and her phone gets cracked by itself. Eight friends reunite in North California in the house of the spouse Mike and Lee. Beth has been having cleansing for 21 days. Cleansing means not having unhealthy foods like carbs, junk foods, drinks, or drugs. Em comes and says hello to everyone and tells them whatever happened to her. Kevin was talking about Miller's Comet, and suddenly, the phone cracked.  They assume maybe she dropped it. She says I was holding my phone, and suddenly it's cracked. Beth asks if anyone knows that Laurie is coming. Em says she didn't know. Then Kevin and Hugh enter and say hi to everyone. Kevin and Em are talking about booking some hotel or something. Em isn't sure yet about that. At that time, Laurie and Amir come. After Laurie comes, Kevin is totally changed; he opens up his scarf and tries to be a nice gentleman. They all sit for dinner, and Hugh asks if the network is still down. One of them says, maybe the tower is down. Em says not a tower thing; it's a big news story. In Finland in 1923, a comet passing incident happened, named Miller's Comet. It was actually crazy because when it happened, it affected people. After it passed, they would get lost. They would end up in the wrong home; they would forget things. They wouldn't really know where they were. She remembers reading about this one woman who called the police and said that the man in her house was not her husband. And then the police came over, saying that this was her husband. She said negatively that this was not her husband because she had killed her husband the previous day. But the police couldn't arrest her because he was before them. Then Lee tells about something Hailey's comet. Beth says there is a secret door in Lee's house. You put a picture of someone, and then it will give you some weird energy flow. Hugh asks when the last time we were all together was before Thanksgiving. Most of them were there.  Laurie asks Mike what does he do recently. He says he is helping his wife's skyping career. But he is an actor, actually. He was on the show Roswell. But Laurie can't recognize him even if it was her favorite show. She says actors on tv and actors face to-face is different. She asks Em. Em says she had a dance group, and she created it, but right before the premiere, they brought in Svetlana Aserrano. She is the best in the world. So Em got replaced. Laurie is such an uncivilized girl that she doesn't even know how to react when people say their sad stories. She says you hear these things that people are being shut out of something they created. It's terrible. Then Emily says that's not the case; I needed to hold on to the understudying. Because the girl who got the desired part was a dancer way worse than Em. Then everyone was telling a different story. Kevin starts telling a story in such a way that somebody is gonna die. They all laugh about it. Then Hugh notices his phone screen is shattered like Em. No one's phone has a network. But no one understands anything because their phone is in another room. Hugh suggests checking the computer. Amir goes to the other room. He returns and says there is no internet. Mike can't believe it. He asks how there could be no internet. Hugh needs to make a call to his brother because he said that if the comet passes and you see anything weird happen, then he requested to make a call to him. Beth asks why you didn't tell me. Hugh says because he didn't want to freak them out. Then suddenly, the lights go out. The electricity is gone. They go out to enjoy the load-shedding. Then they observe the beauty of the comet passing. One thing that Mike notice is weird, which is everything is dark outside except one house. Everyone thinks maybe they have a generator. They feel hopeful to see another lightened house. Hugh needs to make a call, so he decides to go to the house if they have phones. He goes with Amir avoiding his wife's inhibition. Everyone else is waiting for them, ten minutes passes but they don't come. Suddenly they hear a bang outside the door. After checking, they find no one outside. After a while, Hugh and Amir return. Hugh is a little bit wounded in the head, and Amir is with a box. Mike open the box. Everyone's picture is in the box. Every photo holds a number behind it. They need help understanding what that means. Hugh says he goes there and sees eight people sitting in a chair, and they look exactly like them. But Hugh asks Amir why he took that box. Hugh decides to go there again and will ask them for help. Everyone denies it, but he decides to do it. Hugh makes a note, writing, 'Hey…is anyone here?...I need to make a call… At that moment, someone bangs at the door. Kevin goes and says, 'Oh my god… he is really big guy'. Kevin opens the door and gets a note. Seeing the note, everyone falls from the sky. That note looks exactly like Hugh's note. Beth is aiding Hugh. Everyone else is examining the numbers of the pictures. They are thinking, who can do this? Amir suddenly notices the picture of him was taken tonight because he bought the sweater tonight. Laurie is wondering if any one of them is doing this purposely.  Em notices the number written behind the pictures, which is written by her. This is her handwriting. Kevin and Em don't understand anything. Em says they have so many memories together, but at the table, he shared a memory with Laurie. Em says she is not enough for him. Kevin tries to make her understand. On the other hand, they decide to go outside and see themselves with their own eyes. Em, Mike, Kevin, and Laurie go outside. They walk along the road towards the house. Mike says this is his house. He goes near the house, but everyone else says it's not his house; they pull him towards them and walk to their house. On the way back, they see four people exactly looking like them. They run to their home and tell everyone else what happened. Beth says Brian left a book in the back of the car. Hugh brings it. There is written something about quantum physics. That physics is saying they should not contact the other group of people. If they do that, it will be harmful to them. Em says, but they gave them the box. They kept the pictures for us. Amir says that box is not meant for us. We invade their territory. Quantum physics says decoherence keeps us separate. One of them says we have already broken the rule of decoherence. They will collapse on us at any moment. Before that, I am gonna collapse on them. Mike says he will go over there and kill them. Kevin tells Mike that if he does that, he will kill himself. They ask If he goes there what he is gonna see. But Mike says he saw different four. They were different four. They were Hugh, Lee, and Amir. If, in this reality, Lee is napping. Maybe in that reality, Beth is napping. So in that reality, they are not having this conversation. So they don't have the book. We can prevent the collapse if we take the book from their car, but Hugh doesn't want to give the keys. Mike gets pissed off. He makes a plan. He is gonna go there and blackmail Mike with a secret he doesn't want to reveal. Kevin says it's the worst idea. Lee gets up from a nap and says, after taking the drink. She felt a little sleepy. Then Em asks Beth if she put the drug in everyone's food. Everyone gets persuaded by the thought that Beth has done it. But Beth says a person has to drink a whole bottle if anyone wants to be paranoid. I have only put a few drops because she asked for them. In the meantime, the other Hugh and Amir have taken all the photos and boxes to return them. Mike comes into the house, and Kevin asks him where he went. He said to blackmail him, and I dropped the letter, but it freaked me out. Kevin says he has gone for 5 minutes, but Mike says he was gone for 45 minutes. Kevin doesn't believe that.  Mike starts to drink, and everyone comes down and sees the box, and the book is not there. They want to bring the book, and they return the box, but now they take everything. That means they were different from the person who left. They are different. After that, Kevin and Laurie talk in the hallway, and they kiss at some point. Beth sees that and tells it to Em. Em asks Kevin, and he ignores her. Suddenly they hear a sound and get outside to see what is happening. They see the car's glass is broken. Em finds a ring in the car, and it is given by Kevin. She wants to keep it on her finger. She asks Kevin if everything is okay. Kavin says everything is okay, and they hug each other. But after some time, she realized it was not real, Kevin. Mike brings Em some pictures to cut them off; therefore, they are fake, too, not the real ones. Beth injects some Ketamine into the drink of Lee. Beth is fake, too, but everyone is acting like they are the real ones. After some time, Amir and Hugh return. Everyone thinks they are the real one and hug them. They are finally all together. But they show the previous reason to go outside. When they were first outside. Everyone thinks everything is okay now. The problem is finally solved. But Mike creates a problem. Mike asks how we are sure they are real. Mike then reveals the truth that he slept with his wife. Hugh says his wife never slept with his best friend. But in real life, Mike slept with his best friend. Hugh attacks him. Between these problems, Em gets outside of the house. She knows the real Kevin doesn't love her anymore. So she needs to find her lover Kevin who she has got to meet outside the car. She looks at every house. There is happening different story in every different house. She eventually finds that house kills Em, and takes the place of that Em.
What happened in the story of Coherence (2013)?
The comet reaction is portrayed in the movie. The Miller's Comet is so close to our earth right now. So it affects the people. It makes people see people exactly looking like them. So everyone is experiencing confusing incidents. No one recognizes recognizing anyone. It's not a time loop. It's a whole bunch of different stories of the same group of people.
What is the Decoherence theory?
Decoherence theory is an idea in quantum physics that explains why tiny particles can act in strange ways but larger things, like everyday objects, behave normally. When small particles interact with their surroundings, they lose their weird behavior and start following the usual rules we see in our everyday world. This mathematical quantum theory helps us understand why quantum effects are usually invisible in our daily lives and is essential for developing technologies like quantum computers. Suppose a cat is in a box. It has a fifty-fifty chance of living. Because there is a vial of poison that is also in the box. So, regular Physics would say that it is one or the other. The cat is either alive or dead. But Brian would argue that quantum physics says that both realities exist simultaneously. It is only when you open the box that they collapse into a single event. Quantum decoherence ensures that the different outcomes have no interaction with each other. In the movie Coherence (2013), decoherence is portrayed as a science fiction concept linked to a passing comet's unique radiation. This radiation causes multiple parallel realities to overlap, leading to the coexistence of different versions of the characters from alternate timelines. As they interact with their alternate selves and face reality-twisting experiences, the boundaries between these parallel realities become increasingly blurred. Although the film takes creative liberties, it loosely draws inspiration from the real-world scientific concept of decoherence in quantum mechanics, where a quantum system loses its coherence when interacting with its environment. "Coherence" offers a mind-bending narrative that explores these ideas in a fictional setting.
What was the story of Kevin at the table?
Kevin and Laurie went out for drinking. They were drinking way too much of a bar. He passed out and started dreaming. This big black bear was up for its hind legs, sort of mauling him. Slowly. Tenderly. Anyhow they go to some party in Santa Cruz, and as they walk in, this huge dog comes running at him. He jumps up on its hind legs and starts pawing him exactly like a dream. And this guy yelled, 'Bear, get down, Bear.' Whatever happens, in the world, that can be passing a comet, collapsing the hills even destroying the whole world, people want to be loved by their loved ones.

Summary: Whenever Adam needs advice, there's one place he can always go to talk it out. (AKA angst with a happy ending for @adamruz's birthday, because Lexi asked for me to write this. I had the bones of it and then it turned into a 5+1). (Also major thanks to @kim-ruzek for helping me and giving advice on certain parts. It wouldn't have ended up this way without Reese).
Words: 2.3k
Warnings: alcohol, canon accurate miscarriage, canon accurate abduction, canon accurate trauma. We're into Adam's issues here folks!

1.
It had become a tradition for Adam. Whenever anything happened in his life, he came here to share it with Al. The first time had been when he and Hailey had started their...whatever it was. Then when she and Kim were taken and he realised he’d probably never be over Kim. And now that they’d broken up he was back here again. Adam stood at the grave, staring at the engraved words. Alvin Olinsky, beloved father, husband and police officer, with Al’s date of birth and death there.
“Hailey and I ended things. It wasn’t her fault, it wasn’t mine. We both just want different things. I can always see the way she looks at Jay, you know? And I think I’m always going to be in love with Kim. But at the end of the day we had to choose between our relationship and our jobs, and we both chose our jobs. Just another sad story in my love life, eh?”
He took a swallow from the one shot bottle of whiskey he’d brought with him, pouring the other half of it out on the grave. It had been their thing at the end of a case. Find a bar, share a drink, then they’d go their separate ways and go home. This time he had to leave Al behind and go home.
2.
He’d been out for four days, and he wasn’t going back in, but Adam couldn’t stop shaking. All he could think was he could have been beside Al right now. A disgraced cop who was killed in jail. And nobody would know different. He’d have lost everything, and the important people in his life would know the truth, but nobody else. He sank to his knees in front of the headstone, rubbing his fingers to his temple. He was alive. He was alive. But Al wasn’t.
“It’s not fair, you know? We both got jammed up. We both had this crap happen. How come I’m here and you’re not?” Adam took a deep breath, feeling the warm ground under him. “You should be here. It should have been you who picked me up, not Kev. It should have been you out helping me track down Dawson. I just get so angry about it all. You deserved more than this. I can’t believe it’s been a year. It’s a full year and I’m still here, waiting and hoping you’ll just come through the precinct doors. That it’s all a stupid dream and it’s not real and I didn’t carry your coffin out here. But that’s bullshit because I did. Voight offered me my job back. Said IAB knows I’m clean and they’re ok with it. I don’t want to know what deal he made with them, but I’m just glad I can go back. I’m dreading tomorrow and the look on everyone’s face when I arrive in though.”
He swallowed his drink and poured out Al’s, tapping the headstone twice in his customary goodbye. He knew he wasn’t the only one of his friends to visit the grave, but something about actually being where Al’s body was helped him grieve a little.
3.
This was a conversation he wished he could have had in person, Al with his damn toothpick in his mouth, his sardonic smile turning into a real one.
“Hey Al...” his voice trailed off. How did he say this? “I’m gonna be a dad. Kim’s pregnant, and I’m the dad. And she’s letting me be involved. It’s kinda magical. The baby’s the size of a grain of rice right now.”
He sat down, ignoring the cold ground under his jeans. Al would have been so excited to meet his kid. And for it to be Kim’s kid too? He would have been thrilled.
Adam knew Al and Kim had gotten off to a rough start when she joined Intelligence, but she grieved for the man nearly as much as he had. And Al had always told him he should have gone after his girl rather than letting her walk away. Which was true, and Al was right as normal, but it didn’t help Adam’s feelings when they’d been engaged.
“I asked her to marry me again. She turned me down, said we needed to focus on the baby. And she’s right, I guess. We’re still gonna be a family, and it’s still our baby. We’re moving in together though. I’d need to move anyway because I don’t have enough space for a nursery, and we figured two parents there each night is better than two single parents different nights of the week. So I’m taking her spare room, and once the baby’s here and grown up a bit we’re gonna look for a bigger place.”
If Adam listened closely, he could nearly hear Al’s gruff laugh on the wind.
“Yeah, I know. I’m insane for moving in platonically with the love of my life. But I feel like you’d get it. I need to be there for my kid. Same way you were with Michelle. And I’m not gonna let mine and Kim’s past get in the way of this baby having everything it needs.” Adam swallowed more of the whiskey than normal, pouring out the last dribble onto the ground.
“I’m gonna be a dad, Al. I never thought I’d say that.”
4.
Kim had told him to go to work, but Adam couldn’t face it yet. He couldn’t face the apologies, he couldn’t face the condolences. He knew Kim’s injury had gotten around fast - his own father had called to ream him out to ask why they hadn’t told Bob about the pregnancy - and he just couldn’t do it. He’d had enough of the platitudes from the doctors. It’s why he’d wanted to spend the time with Kim. Instead he was trudging through snow, standing at Al’s grave again. The only person apart from Kim he’d wanted to see, and he was six feet under.
“Kim lost the baby.” It came out in a whoosh. He’d said it twice before, once to Kev over the phone when he rang asking for an update, and once to Voight who’d called by the hospital room. But then he could pretend it was nothing, just words. He’d never lied to Al about anything. This was real.
“It was a sex trafficking ring, she found out where they were holding a girl and got there first. She was...she was meant to wait for backup but she could hear the guy about to kill a teenager so she went in. He must have weighed twice as much as Kim but she fought him and killed him. And then she held the girl out of a bath to stop her drowning till Hailey arrived. I had to bring Kim to the hospital. She knew. We both did. But we had to pretend we didn’t while we watched the doctor search for a heartbeat.”
Adam squatted down, his head in his hands. “I was so happy. I was so scared, but I was so happy. And now Kim doesn’t want to see me and I don’t blame her. I wish I could have put the bullets in the guys head. Who am I that I want that for myself?”
It was too early in the morning for whiskey, so he poured out some of his coffee, watching as the hot liquid melted the snow.
“Al...I need you to look after my kid, ok? Let them know how loved they were, even for just this little bit of time. Because I don’t even know if it was a boy or a girl. I wanted a daughter. I wanted a mini Kim. But just please. You’d have been their grandpa if you were still here. I need you to look after them for me.” Adam’s tears were flowing constantly now, and he let them drip down his cheeks and into his beard. He couldn’t cry in front of Kim or his coworkers, but in front of Al he could.
5.
If the cemetery gates didn’t lock early, Adam would have arrived here straight after leaving Kim’s. Instead he’d told Voight he had an appointment and came to see Al, to talk it all through.
“She’s asked me to be Makayla’s custodian, and I said yes. Spent all night researching it and what it means. Basically if anything happens to Kim, I look after Makayla. She’d be my responsibility. And I said yes immediately. I didn’t need to think, I just did it. I thought after Borella, after everything with Bob and what he’d been up to that she thought I was just like him. But she called me her family last night.”
He stood there, coffee in hand. He could nearly feel Al hitting the back of his head, telling him “of course you’re family”.
“Just with everything that’s happened…I thought we weren’t gonna have each other anymore. And I needed to say what I said, and I don’t regret it for a moment. I’ve held my tongue for seven years. I didn’t ask her why about the engagement. I didn’t get angry about Roman - at least not to her face. But I needed to tell her just how badly she’d hurt me. Since you’re gone I thought she was the only person who understood me as me, you know?”
Adam stood in silence, his thoughts echoing around his head. His love for Kim. His immediate protective feelings for her daughter - her daughter. Because Makayla being a Burgess meant that he was going to try protect her. The same way he’d tried protecting Zoey. The same way he’d been there for Naomi when she’d been attacked.
“My main job is I need to make sure Kim goes home at the end of the night. And I did it anyway, but it’s even more important now. I can’t let that girl lose anyone else. I won’t. And Voight can bench me, can tell me I’m letting my heart rule my head, but it’s the truth. Because if I’m breathing, Kim’s gonna be too. Makayla’s lost too much in eight years, I’m not letting her lose anyone else.”
He watched his breath steam up, the snow melted but the winter cold still on the Chicago air. Spring was coming, but just not soon enough.
“It’s eight am and I have to go to work, so it’s coffee again today. I really wish I could have talked to you about all this though. My answer wouldn’t change, but it’d be nice to hear what you had to say.”
+1
He hadn’t been here in a while, not since he’d finally moved in fully with Kim and Makayla. But he missed his moments talking to Al, and took an hour off work to go do it. He was back in his familiar spot, staring at the stone again.
“Kim and I are getting married, and I really wish you could be there. We’ve taken it slow this time, and it feels really right, you know? We weren’t gonna rush into it after what happened before, but with a kid involved? It has to be different. Neither of us want her to feel like we’re rushing her, you know? So six months ago I sat down with her, and told her that it wasn’t gonna happen straight away, or even in the next few months, but I was thinking of asking Kim to marry me and how did she feel about it. It’s the same way when I started staying over more we asked her how she felt, and worked from there. And then two weeks ago I talked to her about it again, had she thought about it. And she said she was glad I lived with them, and if Kim wants to marry me then we should.” He swallowed, his hand on the headstone. “So I checked in with her again last week to make sure, and God, Al, she’s eleven years old and already a teenager. But she said she was good with it, so I asked Kim again. This time in a restaurant, the two of us dressed up. And she said yes. And when we got home and told Makayla she gave us a hug before going to bed. Helping care for that girl is a whirlwind, and I keep wanting to ask you for advice about preteens. I ask Hank, but he reminds me that whatever we have with Makayla, Erin at fifteen was worse. So I mean at least there’s that.”
He poured out the full shot of whiskey this time, too aware he had to go back to the precinct.
“I wish you’d be at the wedding. I’m gonna ask Kim about leaving a chair for you open. I don’t talk to Bob anymore. I never told you, but you were the best mentor I could have ever had. I wish I’d gotten to tell you that.”
Adam tapped the headstone one more time, wiping his eyes before turning away. He had to go back to work, because he was having dinner with his fiancée and the preteen sass queen they were raising together, and he had promised he wouldn’t miss it. The one big thing he’d learned from Al was that his family should always come first, and that’s what he was doing.

Smile Again Part 12

Finalllly here! Little time jump! The end for the time being but probably not forever!
Masterlist ———— series masterlist
—————————————————————
The past year had been a lot of things. Hectic; full of cases, and moving, and adjusting, but also full of; love, and movie nights, and becoming a family.
Y/N had began to move into the Hotchner house hold the very day after Aaron asked. Her, Aaron and Jack had a packing and moving party that day after they had told him. Jack, really all three of them, were too excited to wait. The next day they told JJ and then she was so excited that they had another packing party, this time with wine. The BAU team, and Will and the boys, all helped that next weekend.
At first Jack took a little time to get used to Y/N being there all the time. One day he just got overwhelmed and would only talk to his dad. Y/N expected it, it still hurt like hell but she expected it. She told Aaron she was going to spend the day at JJ’s and that he should have a dad and Jack day.
Aaron felt awful but she calmed him immediately. “Aaron, I know he loves me, but we knew this would happen. No matter what I’m a woman, whose not his mom, moving in and loving him and his father. No matter how much he loves me and wants me here, he’s going to be confused.”
Just hearing that made Aaron fall in love with her even more.
It had turned out that Jack had accidentally called Y/N his mom to his friend at school the day before and was feeling guilty and confused. Aaron talked to him, told him that it was okay to love his mom and Y/No that he himself was confused at first too. He explained that Hailey would always love them and want what’s best for them, and he believed that was Y/N.
Jack looked up at him with big eyes and said “I think so too Daddy! Do you think I could call y/N mommy?” Aaron smiled and nodded, telling him he should talk to Y/N about it.
Later that night When Y/N came home Aaron directed her to his son’s room. She came out about 30 minutes later with a big smile and happy tears.
“You okay?” Aaron asked, leading her to the couch. She nodded and explained to him how Jack had climbed into her lap, said he was sorry for being rude to her and then asked if she could be his other mom and he could call her mommy.
“What’d you say?” Head smiling softly.
“You knew and didn’t warn me?” She said with mock betrayal.
“Maybe, so what’d you say?”
“Like I’d ever say no to that? I love him Aaron! Of course I said yes!”
“We love you Y/N!” Aaron whispered as he pulled her legs into his lap and kissed her softly.
A few months later, Jack had more questions about Y/N. One day after Y/N and Jack had gone to the grocery store Jack yelled “mommy!” Over the radio in the car.
“Yeah bug?” She said.
“When are you and daddy getting married?”
Y/N froze.
“Well, I’m not sure bud! Sometimes grownups do things a little out of order, but I love you and your dad forever with or with out being married okay?”
“Okay! Love you too mommy!” Jack sings from the back seat.
Y/N smiled. She loved that little boy and his dad. She wasn’t gonna lie, being Mrs. Y/N Hotchner sounded pretty great. She wasn’t in a rush though, she was just happy to be theirs.
Little did Y/N know Jack asked his father the same question the very next day on the way to school.
“Hey daddy?”
“Yeah bud?”
“When are you and mommy getting married?”
“Well bud that’s something you and I need to talk about.”
“It is?”
“Mhm” he nodded and pulls the car over into a close by gas station parking lot. He turns around and looks at his son.
“Yeah, I want to ask Y/N to marry me. I wanted to make sure you’d be okay with that! I was gonna talk to you tonight.”
“You’re gonna ask her!?! When!?!” He squealed.
“So I guess you’re okay with it?” Aaron chuckled.
“Yessss!” He squealed again “I asked Y/N when you were getting married yesterday! She said she didn’t know but she loves us no matter what! But she looked all happy when I asked.”
This mad Hotch smile.
“Well I guess that’s a good sign she’ll say yes then huh?”
He nodded happily.
“Wanna come pick out a ring with me after school?”
Jack squealed again and Aaron took that as a yes.
A few months later Aaron and Jack had planned it all out. Jack was at Jessica’s. Aaron and Y/N were on a weekend trip to New York celebrating their year long relationship.
They had just gotten back from dinner and were sitting on the balcony when y/n finally asked what she’d been wondering all night.
“You okay? You seem nervous.” She asked taking his hand.
“Yeah, everything is perfect. I just had something I want to talk to you about.” He said turning to her and taking both of her hands.
“I once told you that I wasn’t asking you to marry me, just to be your friend and that you call the shots” he said reaching to brush some hair behind her ear. “a lot has changed since then. I love you, and I know you and your love for me enough to know that I can be a little less timid with you now. I still always want to be your friend Y/N and so much more than that. You’ll always call the shots. The one thing from that first statement that has changed is that this time I am asking you to marry me.” He said softly as he smiled with teary eyes, getting down on one knee in front of her chair.
Y/N gasped, her eyes filled with tears as he took her hand in his. The other hand flew to her mouth. She couldn’t believe how lucky she was.
“You can always say no, but you can’t say yes unless I ask right?” He laughed, quoting what she once said to him. She nodded with a watery giggle.
“So here I go; Y/N Y/M/N Y/L/N, will you be my wife?“ he asked holding out the ring that had been in his pocket.
“Yes! A million times yes” she answered barely waiting for him to slide the ring on to pull him into her for a kiss.
They both ended up on the floor of the balcony with Y/N in Aaron’s lap, laughing and looking at her ring.
“Did jack know you were doing this?” She asked.
“Yes and he’s probably bugging the crap out of Jess waiting for an answer.” He laughed
“Well let’s call him! “ she said as she got up and pulled Aaron with her.
“Okay it has to be a video call because he wants to see you open this. “ he said pulling an envelope with ‘mommy’ written on it in jacks hand writing out of his pocket.
She gasped and nodded. Moving to sit on the bed as Aaron took out his phone.
Jack and Jess answered the phone and y/n smiled as Jack jumps up and down saying
“Did you ask her!?!”
“I did!” Aaron said with a smile.
“What’d you say mommy?!?
“I could never say no to a Hotchner man”
She smiled holding up her hand.
“Congratulations you two” Jessica said.
“Daddy give her the envelope!!!!” Jack asked, jumping up and down.
“I have it bud, can I open it?” She asked
He nodded And she opened the envelope to see a hand drawn picture of the three of them holding hands, with the words ‘I love you! Will you be my mommy forever?’
She felt tears I her eyes and looked closer to see that Jack had drawn a blonde smiling stick figure angel and one of a man angel that resembled a picture she had on her mantle. She could only guess they were Haley and Conner and the tears came faster.
Behind the picture was a packet of adoption papers and taped to the back of the envelope was an elegant ring that matched her engagement ring with 3 larger stones of her Aaron and Jack’s bithstones and two smaller ones one the out side one connors birthstone and one a ruby.
She gasped.
“Daddy said that you and him think momma and Connor sent us to each other so you can carry all of us with you.” Jack I love this and I would love to be your mommy, I will never ever replace your momma but I will love you for always my sweet boy!”
“She said yes!” He yelled hugging Jess. Y/N turned to Aaron who hugged her with a huge smile.
“Hotchner boys can I have a minute with aunt Jessy?” y/n asked
“Sure I’ll go get ready for bed!” Jack peeped “I love you mommy, love you daddy!”
“We love you too” they said.
“I’ll be on the balcony, bye Jess” Aaron said kissing y/N’s head.
“You look happy” Jess said wiping her own tears
“I am Jess, I just- are you okay with all this?” Y/N asked
“I am beyond happy Y/N, Aaron and Jack are my family, always, and now you are too. I really do think Haley sent you to her boys and I couldn’t be happier.”
“Thank you Jessica!”
“Always! I miss having a sister, and while you’re not a replacement to anyone, you are pretty great as yourself.”
“You’ll be a bridesmaid right?” Y/N said, wiping new tears at Jess’s words.
“I’d love to Y/N. Now get back to your future husband” she smiled.
“Okay, kiss jack for me.”
She walked out on the balcony and wrapped her arms around his middle, causing him to turn and look down at her.
“I love you Aaron, thank you for making me smile again.”
“I love you Y/N.” He said kissing her ring finger, then her forehead and finally her lips.

SWAT!Jay / Upstead AU
He's seen the guy before, hell, he's seen him a few times before, this isn't the first time they've had to call in SWAT. And honestly, he's never had any issues with SWAT before, but this guy… Adam's been irked by him the last couple of times he's seen him.
There's a dozen police cars surrounding the bank, even more police officers taking cover behind the cruisers, there's police tape going back a block, a bunch of onlookers are still milling around and SWAT just pulled up. Great. Just what you need on a Monday morning.
Intelligence has been following the robbery crew for a few days now, waiting for them to hit their next target. The crew was brutally efficient in their earlier heists, but never harmed anybody, so the plan was to bust them as soon as they led the team to their stash house. That plan went tits up as soon as a gunfire erupted inside the bank and panicked screams filled the air. Without any eyes and ears inside and not wanting to aggravate the situation any further, Hank told them to stand down and initiate a Plan 4.
And now here they are. The team except for Hank is crouched behind their cars, their guns pointed at the bank's front entrance. The SWAT commander and two of his men walk up to Hank and they appear to be talking plans, gesticulating at the bank, before they move towards the command truck.
Adam follows them with his eyes until he sees that one of the SWAT guys hasn't moved and is staring at him. Why is he staring at him? He's seen the guy before, hell, he's seen him a few times before, this isn't the first time they've had to call in SWAT. And honestly, he's never had any issues with SWAT before, but this guy… Adam's been irked by him the last couple of times he's seen him. Then Adam sees something move in the corner of his eye and it's a flash of blonde hair – it's Hailey. And when he glances back at SWAT guy, he realizes that the guy hasn't been staring at him, he's been staring at Hailey. And it's also in this moment that Adam knows why he doesn't like the other man. He was staring at Hailey the last time they saw each other too. Hailey, who is definitely trying to not look in SWAT guy's direction, except that her eyes flicker over when she thinks no one is watching, like she's nervous. He doesn't know how long this staring contest lasts until there's a crackling sound coming from beside him and it's Hank's voice filtering through Hailey's radio, telling her to join him at the command truck. She has barely stood up from her crouch before Adam jumps up as well and announces that he's coming with. Hailey only raises an eyebrow at him and walks off, Adam trailing behind her. He frowns when he notices SWAT guy following them too.
The briefing with Hank and SWAT is quick – they have established communication with the robbers who have given their demands, but everyone knows that they are only stalling them until the SWAT team can breach. They listen to the SWAT commander give his orders to his men and after a chorus of "yessirs", the SWAT team clears out of the command truck. It's a tight fit inside the truck and it's a wonder nobody else notices, but Hailey lets out a tiny surprised squeak when SWAT guy squeezes past her. And if Adam hadn't been paying attention as hard as he was, he probably wouldn't have seen SWAT guy's hand lingering on Hailey's behind. It's only for a second and Hailey seems otherwise unfazed, but Adam can't help but glare daggers at the back of SWAT guy's head until he is out the door. Hank tells them to go back to their positions and wait for further instructions.
Back with the others, Adam keeps glancing at Hailey, but Hailey does a great job of ignoring him and pretending that nothing happened. They hear over the radio that SWAT will breach soon, but nothing ever prepares you for the sudden crack of a sniper rifle firing. Adam flinches a little, others even duck, not sure where the shot just came from. Just a moment later, they can hear flash bangs and surprised shrieks inside the bank, followed by rapid bursts of gunfire. Two minutes later and the whole thing is over, hostages coming out the front door with their hands up, followed by members of the SWAT team. It seems that the robbers have all been neutralized.
In the aftermath, the team is still hanging around, interviewing witnesses and getting statements. This might be one of Adam's least favorite things to do, especially because it means a ton of paperwork even after the fact and even though they already got the bad guys. He is still keeping an eye on Hailey who is talking to a woman a few cars over. As soon as Hailey sends the woman on her way, he sees SWAT guy just a few paces behind her. Adam growls lowly and quickly strides over, but before he gets to Hailey, SWAT guy is already sauntering up behind her, once again reaching for Hailey's behind. Before SWAT guy can touch her, Hailey slaps his hand away.
"HEY!" Adam's shout not only turns the heads of the pair but also more than a few others'. He stomps right up to them and gets right in SWAT guy's face. "What do you think you're doing?"
"Adam, no!" Hailey tries to get between them, but Adam has already shoved SWAT guy away from Hailey. The guy looks angry as hell and Adam wonders if he's made a huge mistake. Before SWAT guy can retaliate, Hailey stares him down and he stops in his tracks.
"Not here!" Hailey hisses and grabs them both by the arm (painfully, Adam might add) and drags them away from their staring colleagues. As soon as they are hopefully out of earshot of other people, Hailey lays in on Adam. "What the hell was that?"
Adam is taken back by her outburst. "Why are you yelling at me? He's harassing you!"
SWAT guy has the audacity to let out a laugh, which is quickly subdued by Hailey slapping his arm. He shakes his head in amusement. "You don't even know what you're talking about, man."
"Oh my God," Hailey mutters, rubbing her hand over her face. "Adam, what did you see?"
"He touched your butt in the command truck! And he was about to do it again!" SWAT guy laughs again, Hailey only groans.
She turns to SWAT guy and sighs. "I told you not to do stuff like that at work." SWAT guy at least looks sheepish now, but Adam still doesn't understand what is going on.
"Wait, so you know each other?"
"Well yeah," SWAT guy rolls his eyes, "we work together." Hailey slaps his arm again. "And that's my wife."
Adam scoffs and looks at SWAT guy like he's just told the most blatant lie. "No, she's not."
Hailey rubs her forehead and decides this can't get any worse. "Adam, this is my husband Jay." And now Jay has the widest grin on his face.
Adam does a double take. "Wait, what?"
"I'm married to this idiot," Hailey glances at Jay who winks at her.
"You love this idiot."
"Wait, you're married!?" Hailey groans again and walks off, Jay snickering and following her, and Adam is left gaping at their backs, still trying to grasp what the fuck just happened.
* * * * *
The team decides to hit up Molly's after they finish up, mostly, or so Adam thinks, to figure out what happened between him and Hailey and that other guy earlier today, those nosy bastards. Once they walked back to the team (Jay snuck away like a fucking ninja), of course their colleagues asked them what was up, but Hailey played dumb and Adam was too embarrassed to say anything. Whatever happened, he was also not going to out Hailey like that, he wasn't that much of an asshole.
A couple of drinks later, Adam is relieved when the team stops questioning them and moves on to Kevin's plans of organizing parties at Molly's again. His relief is short-lived though when he spots Jay as he enters the bar. The guy definitely looks less intimidating without his tactical uniform and sniper rifle, but Adam still can't believe this is happening to him. He tries to sink lower in his seat, but Kim taps his arm and nods her head at Jay.
"Hey, isn't that the guy?" By now, everyone at their table, including Hailey who had her back facing the entrance, has turned in Jay's direction, who has also found them, or specifically his wife, because his stern expression changes into a goofy smile and there is no way that smile is directed at anyone else but Hailey. Jay makes his way to the back of the bar where their table is and, when she is within reach, slings his arm over Hailey's shoulder.
"Hey." He waves at the team. He gets some half-hearted "heys" in return, but the team is obviously confused as to why Hailey just let a random guy drape himself over her. Hailey, for one, doesn't look surprised.
"Guys, this is Jay." She reaches up to hold the hand on her shoulder, clearing her throat. "Jay, my husband." There are some shocked reactions from the group and the mood suddenly turns slightly awkward, nobody knowing what to say to that. Adam doesn't know what to think of the fact that Hailey's been hiding this from everyone else too.
"Congrats?" Adam tries and obviously fails when Hailey averts her eyes, but when Jay squeezes her hand, she looks up at him and gives him a soft smile.
"Hey, nice to meet you, Jay." Kevin gets up and gives Jay a pat on the back. "So you're the guy with the long gun, huh?"
Jay chuckles. "I'm guessing you mean my sniper rifle, but hey, that's what she keeps calling it too."
Hailey groans, but the others start laughing and Kevin drags a chair over for Jay to sit down. Thank God for Kevin, Adam thinks, that guy can defuse any socially awkward situation. There's a round of introductions and then Kevin tries to persuade Jay to spill the details on the SWAT operation at the bank since some of it is classified. At first, he resists, but after Kevin and the rest of the team promise to buy him several rounds of drinks, Jay not only tells them some SWAT secrets (Hailey's pretty sure half of them are lies, terrible lies), but also proceeds to tell them how Jay and Hailey met at another bank robbery that hadn't gone quite as smoothly. Hailey obviously isn't too happy about how her private life is put out in the open like this, but she seems happier and softer around the edges than usual, like she can move more freely now that her relationship is not so secret anymore.
At some point, while Jay is explaining mathematical formulas on how to account for the earth's curvature on long distance shots, Hailey and Adam's eyes meet and he mouths "sorry" at her and shrugs, but Hailey just waves him off. It's already water under the bridge.
Some drinks later, when Jay refuses to tell them how their first date went and Kevin insists on buying a round of tequila shots, Hailey feels like she needs to do some damage control. Jay and tequila never end well.
"Alright, enough with 20 Questions." She gets up and motions at Jay to do the same. "We're going home."
The others try to talk them into staying for just another round and even Jay chimes in, "I haven't even finished my beer yet!"
Hailey leans over to him and whispers something in his ear. Jay immediately gets up and chugs his beer, saying his goodbyes to the unit. "Nice to meet you guys, but we gotta go."
Kevin lets out the loudest laugh and gets up to give both Hailey and Jay a hug. "Same here, man. You can finish your story next time!"
Hailey blushes and gives Kevin a shy smile, grateful that he has made the effort to keep the evening lighthearted and fun. Adam watches them leave, Hailey leading the way, Jay's hand on the small of her back. Well, at least he doesn't have to worry about being killed by SWAT guy tonight.

Resurfaced
(Kevin Atwater x Original Female Character)
Tumblr media
*Not my gif*
Kevin finds it hard to protect what's his when the past comes back to haunt him and his wife.
Moonlight & ambient noise from the city streets several stories below filled the room. Both of you barely dressed, Kevin’s large muscular frame rested comfortably on top of you in the bed. Having just made love for the first time in weeks, neither one of you wanted to move from this space. He kissed you right above your collarbone, which still managed to make you quiver in all the right places. You gently traced circles along his back and finally decided it was time to break the silence.
“What’s wrong?”
He shifted to place his lips slightly lower on your chest as a distraction. While leaving gentle kisses.. “Everything’s...fine..Bianca..”
Finding it difficult to concentrate and not cave in to another round of passion, you immediately put his head in your hands to get his attention. Motioning for him to move so you could sit up straight, readjusting the sheets over your bare chest as he rolls on to his back, clearly annoyed. Play time was over.
“Kevin, I’m serious. I know something happened. You've been distracted, almost nervous, all week. Then tonight..you were different. I can’t describe it but you know I’m right.”
Kissing your hand, he realized in this moment that honesty with you was the only way. You were his wife after all, the person he loved more than anyone and would do anything to protect. He finally sat up, back towards you, facing the wall. You waited anxiously for words to come out of his mouth.
“It’s Damien. He’s back in Chicago.”
This sentence instantly shot chills down your spine. Kevin turned around to take you in, evaluating your mental state after hearing this news. Tears welling up in your eyes.
“Bianca.”
“How is that possible? I thought...what??”
“He popped up last week. We were working the case. Burgess was under with Upton at this little hole in the wall in Pilsen and he showed up at their meet.
“Did he see her? Is she ok?”
“She’s fine babe. Kim thought she might get made so she dipped out really quickly & let Hailey finish the deal. Voight & I have had a security detail on you ever since.”
You were now panicked and obviously upset that this news was kept from you. “You’ve what?! Don’t you think that’s something I should’ve known?! Oh my God.”
You jump out of bed sheet in tow, now pacing the floor. Kevin, knowing the bombshell he’d just dropped gives you another minute to process before he’s up and off the bed behind you.
Taking your face in his hands, the deepest sincerity in his heart, “B, look at me. I will NEVER let that piece of shit touch you again. Do you hear me? I know I should’ve told you, but I didn’t want you worried, especially without me being here for so long. I gotchu... You’re safe with me.” Kissing your forehead & wiping away your tears.
“I know. I know I am. I just thought this was all over. I don’t want my mess affecting Intelligence. If anything happened to Kim or you because of my past…”
Now sobbing, Kevin wraps you in his reassuring arms, with a steely look of determination to protect his world on his face.
Morning came, and you were startled awake by the sound of Kevin’s phone ringing. You heard the shower running in the next room so you reached to answer it with a groggy hello.
“Hi Hank.”
“Bianca, how you holdin’ up kiddo?”
Hank had become like family to you rather quickly. Your case was special. Damien was a long time predator he and Al had been trying to capture for years. When Hank found you 6 years ago, beaten, bloodied and half conscious, he made it his duty to look after you, especially seeing that you had no relatives in a new city. You were there with him through it all...Justin’s disappearing acts, Al’s passing, which eventually led to you meeting and falling in love with Atwater.
“I thought he was dead. How is he back? Why is he back?”
“I’m doing everything in my power to figure that out, Bianca. Don’t you worry about this ok? We’re gonna get this prick.”
Nothing anyone said could completely reassure you in this moment, but you nodded in agreement anyway.
“Yeah...Kev’s in the shower. I’ll have him call you back.”
You hang up the phone and get out of bed, looking for something to throw on. You find an oversized hoodie of your husbands and a pair of shorts.
You exit the bedroom just as Kevin emerges from the bathroom, towel around his waist.
“Hey...I was gonna wear that today.”
Completely deadpan, “It looks better on me.”
As he walks towards the kitchen to greet you, “You’re right about that. Good morning.”
Attempting to plant a kiss on your cheek, you show zero emotion & continue to prep your cup of tea.
He shakes his head but decides to give you your space and heads to the bedroom to get dressed.
Standing at the threshold of your bedroom door, tea in hand you boldly say, “I want you to put me under.”
Kevin stops in his tracks, as if he’s spotted Bigfoot buying a Venture card on the green line. Pulling his shirt the rest of the way over his head.
“Put you under what??!”
“You know what I mean. Undercover, Kevin. You know I’m part of the reason he’s back in Chicago. He didn’t get what he wanted from me before Voight found me that night. His usual pattern was completely thrown off. I want to help. I need to help catch him.”
Kevin storms passed you in to the living room. You follow.
“HELL NO. Are you joking?! You want us to damn near put you in the hands of the man who almost took you from me, before I got a chance to have you?! Absolutely not.”
You walk towards him softly. Knowing this will be a hard battle to win, you sit in front of him on a chair as he leans against the wall.
“Baby...it’s taken years for me to feel safe in my own skin again. You did that for me. Hank looking after me, leading me to you. This life that we’ve built is the greatest gift I could’ve ever gotten. And now you’re telling me that someone is threatening what we’ve worked to create? I can’t just stand and watch while you guys, my family, puts themselves in harms way for me. I have to do something.
………
A few weeks had gone by and Intelligence still had no leads in their investigation. It was almost as if Damien Charles had never resurfaced...until the team got an alert that a young woman was found dead in an abandoned warehouse, brutally assaulted. They had no real proof, as Damien was very careful, but it was definitely his MO. Kevin was on edge and pissed at you, somehow believing that shutting you out would stop you from getting your way. Knowing your husband wouldn’t budge, you decided to go to Hank to convince him to use you as bait to catch Damien. He reluctantly obliged.
Night fell on the 21st. Upton and Burgess were prepping your phone with a tracking device while Ruzek and Halstead checked weapons and started to vest up. You were nervous, but Kim kept reminding you to take deep breaths. “We’ll be with you the whole time.”
“I know, I just wish Kevin…”
Hailey chimed in, handing you your phone, “Trust me, he’ll come around Bianca. It’s in their nature to want to protect us, but sometimes it’s up to us to take that power back ourselves.”
Kevin was upstairs in the locker room wreaking havoc on anything that wasn’t pinned down. Hank, hearing the commotion from down the hall, rushed in to see who had lost their mind.
“Kevin! Kevin!”
“How could you let her do this man?! I’m her husband! You don’t get to make that kind of decision for her.”
“Neither do you, Kev. This was her choice, do you understand? No matter how much either of us wants to catch this scumbag, she wants him gone a whole lot more. She’s stronger than you think. Now you have a choice. You either hang back, mad at the world or you gear up and back Bianca...back this team.”
Back downstairs, having settled in on the choice you’d made, “Ok, let’s do this.”
As the three of you were headed out of the room to join the others, Kevin walked in. Kim touched his shoulder in an attempt to reassure him as she walked away. You wanted to find solace in his familiar embrace, but you knew it was pointless. The walls were up. He walked towards you and you immediately noticed the tears in his eyes. “Kev…” Grabbing your hand and leaving a kiss on your frontal lobe, he quickly wiped his face and walked out to join the others.
It was a typical undercover mission, except this time, the stakes were much higher. You and Upton walked into the crowded club, dressed as if you were ready to party. The intel the team gathered tracked Damien at this same location several days in a row looking for his next victim. The rest of the team were scattered throughout the room or on surveillance outside the main entrance. This was one of those cases where justice was decided by Voight and his team, no judge or jury necessary.
You spot him almost immediately. Tapping Hailey on the arm, she reports back to the group, “We have eyes on Damien. He’s at the bar talking to a young woman.”
Hailey turns to you and for a moment, you can’t even remember your own name.
“Bianca, you ready? You good?”
“Yes. I’m ready.”
Morphing into a drunken party goer ready to have more fun, you make your way to the bar.
Halstead distracts the woman Damien is speaking to, saving her from imminent danger.
As Damien walks away, pissed that he had to ‘let that one go’ he spots you. A beautiful & familiar face. You’ve changed over the years, but a vulture never forgets its uneaten prey. You’re nervous as hell. More thoughts run through your mind than you can handle at once, but for now, you must push them aside.
No sooner than you spotted him, Damien disappeared into the crowd. You called Kim as a cover while you began to look around. “Hey girlie! I thought you were supposed to meet me tonight? I don’t see you!”
Kim responds on the other line…”Keep talking, Jay is checking the bathroom. He couldn’t have gone far.”
You spot Kevin on the stairwell on the other side of the club. Everything will be fine….
The fire alarm sounds.
Suddenly you feel a sharp pain in your neck.
A look of panic on Kevin’s face in the distance is the last thing you see as the cell phone slips from your hands.
Everything goes BLACK.
Chaos has ensued in the club. The alarm continues to blare, sprinklers shooting out water, and people running in every direction. Voight radios in as he and Ruzek are covering the perimeter, trying to calm down the frantic crowd. “Hailey, talk to me! Is everyone ok in there?!”
Kevin has bolted down the stairs, pushing his way through the crowd as he sees Damien pick you up and drag you out a backdoor. “B!! Bianca!!” It’s as if he’s trying to run in quicksand. As Kevin finally makes it to the back door, Burgess, who isn’t far behind spots your phone on the floor. She blots out after Kevin who is racing to his car. They get in, Kevin, not saying a word, speeding down the block trying not to lose you. Kim radios the team.
“Sarge, Damien has Bianca! We’re headed the wrong way down Parkside Ave in pursuit of a late model gray pick up truck. Tags are Indiana custom DG ...L16. We’re making a right on to George St. now!”
“We’re coming!! Don’t lose them!”
The high speed chase through the streets of Chicago continues as the rest of the team joins Atwater and Burgess. Atwater loses sight of the truck for what seems like an eternity. Ruzek radios Kim… “I just pulled up at the warehouse. I see the truck.”
Kevin picks up speed, gripping the wheel even tighter, “Copy that. Tell him we’re 5 mins out.”
…………………
You begin to come out of your fog. The dark room Damien has you in smells like mildew and death, yet in weird contrast, you’re lying on a mattress with fresh white sheets. Damien, not realizing that you’ve woken up, is in the corner at a table pouring wine and gathering instruments. You scan the room looking for anything to use as a weapon. Fear takes over as he walks towards the bed. You pretend to still be in a daze.
Scanning your body, then touching your face… “Wow. You’re more beautiful than I remember, darling. I’ve been waiting for this chance to be with you again.” He sits you up, started to touch you more, now looking down your shirt.
“Please, don’t…” Before you can get the words out of your mouth, his hand is around your neck. Gasping for air, tears start to stream down your face.
“DON’T act like you don’t want this! Hank Voight stole our chance at happiness years ago. And he thought he had me, but now is our time.”
As Damien leans in to connect his lips with yours, the sound of metal hitting pavement resounds in another area of the warehouse stopping him. He loosens his grip on you allowing just enough time for you to lunge for the bottle of wine and swing it hard against his skull.
“KEVIN!!!!!!” You scream, as you quickly scramble out of Damien’s grip. Racing towards the door, your realize that it’s locked from within. As you begin to pound on the door, Damien slowly starts to move closer to you. “KEVIN!!!! HANK!!! Please...down here!!”
Had the noise you heard a few minutes prior been a false alarm? Did you make a mistake? Damien’s disorientation and head gushing with blood give you time to look around the room for another way out, but nothing. With a newfound burst of energy, he lunges towards you like the madman that he is now pinning you against the wall. You fight him off with every ounce of strength you have.
BOOM!!!!!!
Moments later in true Atwater fashion, the door to your current prison swings open. Without any hesitation, Kevin grabs Damien and tosses him yards across the room. He stands over his exhausted body and begins to pummel his face like a boxing bag. Ruzek rushes in to stop him.
“Kev! Kev! We got him man! We got him.”
Snapping back to reality, Kevin turns his attention back towards you, crouched down near the door crying. Voight and the rest of Intelligence are now in the room. They stand in utter disbelief that this madness has finally come to an end.
Without saying a word, Kevin comes down to your level and begins to gently kiss every inch of your tear-filled face as if there’s healing in his touch….you’ve always known that there is.
You wrap your arms around him as he carefully lifts you up off the floor. You’ve never felt more relieved in all your life.
Voight, clearly broken up at seeing you in this state, puts a hand on Kevins shoulder. “Make sure you get her over to Med. We’ll clean up here.”
Fully leaning on your husband for support, the two of you exit the room.
………………………
Kevin hadn’t left your side since being admitted into the hospital two days ago. He was planted in the chair beside you.
“Do you need anything babe?”
Touching his cheek to reassure him, despite the IV in your arm. “I’m ok, thank you.”
Dr. Halstead walks into the room to check in. “Bianca, we got all of the test results back. The syringe he used to sedate you wasn’t contaminated, and everything else is cleared. You’ll be able to go home today.”
Kevin gets up to shake his hand. “Thank you man. Seriously, thank you.”
“Of course. Bianca take it easy ok? Try to hold off on being a hero for a while.”
With a smile, “I’ll try. Thanks Will”
Will walks out. Voight walks in.
He and Kevin hug.
“Hey Sarge.”
“How’s our patient doing?”
“I get to leave today.”
“Ok! That’s great. Oh look at those balloons.”
Kevin chuckles, “Yeah, everyone stopped by yesterday.”
Voight walks closer to the bed like a proud father and takes your hand. “I’m really proud of your kiddo.” You squeeze his hand in acknowledgement, knowing that for Voight that sentence translated into ‘I love you and I couldn’t bear it if we lost you.’
Voight starts to walk out of the room and Kevin follows.
“Yo Sarge, are we good? You know.”
“He’s gone. Forever this time. Ruzek and I took care of it for you.” With a pat on Kevin’s chest, Voight looks back at you one more time and leaves.
Kevin makes his way back into the room. You sit up a bit, still weak and reach for him.
“Everything ok?”
“Everything’s perfect, B. Everything’s perfect.”
He kisses you as if there’s no one else in the world besides the two of you. His world has been set right once again.
“Let’s get you home.”

Love & War | 2K Celebration
As part of my 2K follower celebration, I asked followers to submit a song and a pairing/character and then I would write a ficlet (roughly 1000 words) based on it. Requested: Haley and Hotch & “Love & War” by Yellow Claw! I can’t help but love Haley and I think she gets a little more hate than she deserves so here’s a little ficlet from her point of view.
------
She’s not sure what hurts more – when he goes, or when he promises to stay. Because when he says it, Haley believes it. She wants to believe that this time he means it and this time it’s going to last. He’ll be home for dinner. He’ll be back for the weekend. He won’t leave her when she need shim. Each time she falls for that steady voice and unblinking eyes but Aaron is never there to catch her. It’s all hasty goodbyes and strained apologies and a house that’s all too empty. It wasn’t always this way. He used to be there to tell her jokes when she was having a bad day or hold her hand as they fell asleep. She used to be the one he told everything to, and she could read him better than anyone.
But that job steals pieces of him. Aaron doesn’t smile as bright. He doesn’t trust as easily. When he closes parts of his heart to keep the darkness from getting at him, he shuts her out too. He shuts down. And Hailey can feel him slipping away from her no matter how hard she tries to keep him there. Her husband, the great love of her life, becomes a stranger to her. He isn’t the same boy who joined a musical just to spend a little time with her and he isn’t the same man who couldn’t stop smiling when she surprised him with a trip to Disney World on their first anniversary because she wanted him to make all the happy memories he’d been denied in childhood. For years he couldn’t stop talking about starting a family – but he missed Jack’s first steps and Jack’s first words. Dr. Reid, in many ways still a child himself, had told her when Jack was young that most babies say “dada” as their first word because their father is the first person they identify as being separate from themselves. It takes them longer to understand their mother is her own being. But Hotch was absent so often that Jack’s first words were “Jess,” then “mama,” then “no.” Then “dada.”
Haley wants to believe it’s going to be better, but she knows better. She’s picked up a thing or two about profiling over the years, and it’s plain to see that he loves that job too much to leave it. Aaron is a good man. He has always been a good man. He’s loyal and he’s strong and he’s brave. It’s why she loves him, and it’s why he leaves her. She can’t ask him not to save lives – but is it too much to ask for him to put their lives first, just once? To choose her and Jack, just once. He doesn’t have to go in on his day off. He doesn’t have to cut his vacations short. But time and time again she finds herself awake for the third night in a row because Jack can’t sleep, or canceling on her friends because his promise to stay home for the night has been broken by Gideon insisting this can’t wait a moment longer, or crying alone in their empty bed because it’s too hard to do this all by herself. This wasn’t what they planned. This wasn’t what he promised her.
All is fair in love and war, but she just can’t do this anymore. The photos of dead bodies on their dining room table haunt her. The monsters he battles come home with him. The secrets he carries fill the space between them. His team needs him, she knows this. But she needs him too. Her father is losing his memory and their son is asking questions she doesn’t have answers to and her belief in true love is slowly breaking down. She needs him to tell her it will be okay. She needs him to look at her long enough to realize that she’s hurting.
Sometimes it feels like she’s married to a ghost. And sometimes, sometimes she thinks that would be easier. Because a ghost can’t keep letting her down. A ghost can’t give her hope for a few hours. And a ghost can only leave once.
Haley can’t bear the thought of leaving him, but she doesn’t know how to stay like this. When Aaron tells her about the transfer, she knows she should be sympathetic to the loss of his team, but all she can think is that she doesn’t have to spend weeks at a time wondering if the goodbye they said will be the last one. He’ll be home, he’ll be safe, and for the first time they’ll be together. But then Gideon vanishes. The phone rings. And when he packs a go-bag, her heart shatters like all his promises.
This is never going to be enough for him. They’re never going to be enough to make him stay.
“Do you know what this guy’s doing to women in Milwaukee?” he asks her, after she snaps at him.
“I don’t want to know!” she says. Because she knows there’s dozens of monsters in dozens of cities right now and she knows they can solve this without him. What this man is doing to these women doesn’t change what he is doing to her right now.
She says, “Make sure you give your son a kiss before you leave.” He storms past her without another word.
It’s all fair in love and war. But these days, she isn’t quite sure what she’s fighting for. He fights harder for his job than he does for her heart these days. Still, she loves him too much to make him choose between being a hero and being her hero. She packs her own bags, and then she packs for Jack. And she calls her sister. She can’t ask him to choose, so she’ll make the choice for him. And she wants to believe that maybe this will be enough to bring him back to her – that he’ll realize what he wants, what he needs. She’s just not sure what that will be anymore.

Always Loved
Aaron Hotchner
word count: 1770
Plot: After Hotch finds out Haly has been cheating on him when he goes away on a case he falls into the hand of Youngest teammate Y/N.
A/N: REQUEST PLEASE!!!!
Hotch POV
Haley walked away with her purse in hand. I tried not to go and follow but I couldn’t help it. And I wish I didn’t follow her.
“Yes, He’s looking at another case so we’ll most likely see each other again.” Hailey said, having no idea of my present. “No, when he comes back I’ll give them the papers. Baby I do and I know you treat me better. Yes baby I know. How about I go over soon. Tonight? Umm.. I’ll see what I can do.” Not wanting to hear the rest of the conversation I walked back to the case that was looking at and decided to make a call of my own.
“Hey Y/l/n Have you guys built a profile yet?” I asked our rookie.
“We have not sir. We would have if we had you here to help us.” She said I could almost see the smile she had on her face.
“Okay I’ll be at the station in a few.” I said gladly that the case was local for me to be able to get there so easily.
“Hailey I’ll be back. They need me.” I said yelling to my wife from the front door. The last thing I saw of her is her rolling her eyes.
-Timejump- they caught the bad guy.
I pull into my driveway having a really bad feeling in my stomach. I walked into my bedroom seeing Haley’s side of the closet was cleared out. She did it and she left. I slid down the wall, shocked at how she could leave like that with our son and not let me know. I was too tired to move to the bed so I stayed in that position all night. I almost didn’t know till there was a knock on the door.
“Oh Sir I’m sorry I didn’t know you were sleeping but I was thinking about how I never paid you back for saving my life a few cases back and last night I just couldn’t sleep so I made this cake for you and your family.” She said looking at me. Reading the hurt in my eyes.
“Sir are you okay? Do you need to talk? Are you and Haley fighting?”
“No Y/l/n I’m okay'' I said, rubbing my eyes to distract her from finding out what really happened.
“Y/N Sir.”
“What?” I asked
“ Well we aren’t doing anything work related so you can call me Y/N” She said looking down at the cake still in her hand. I reach for the cake.
“Thanks Y/N. But I’m still tired so if you don’t mind I’m going to try and get some more sleep.” I said closing the door before she even got to say goodbye.
----Y/N Pov---
What was that? He was still in yesterday’s day clothes. Looked like he didn’t get any sleep. Plus Haley’s car was in the driveway and I didn’t hear Jack at all. Did he find out what happened? I knew I should have told him when I found out a few weeks ago.
I was at the mall looking for some really cute pants when I saw them at H&M. Haley and the family. I was getting to walk over to say hi to her and little jack when she started to kiss a man. At first I thought it was Hotch and how cute that was. But then I looked closer and realized that it wasn’t Hotch but in fact a tall man with blond hair and blue eyes. I quickly stopped and tried to hide and follow them. But I lost track of them when all of a sudden a voice rang out from behind me.
“It would be a shame if my husband found out about today.” I turned around to hear that the voice came from Haley.
“Haley what happened today? I--’mmm I just can't believe we shop at the same store.”  I said nervously
“Look Agent if he finds out about today and who I was with the best belief I’m going to blame the reason for our divorce on you. It doesn’t take a profiler to know that you have a school girl crush on my husband. I'm surprised he hasn’t noticed. Just proves my point that all he cares about is his work.” She said rolling her eyes.
“Umm I’m so sorry and he won’t know I’m sorry.” I said putting the stuff in my hand down and walking out of there without my cute pants to embarrassed and shocked at what happened.
Know I have to go to work and try not to replay what happened in my head as well as be excited that Hotch may actually be single.
I walk into the BUA with a smile trying to keep a positive attitude.
“ I would lose the smile baby girl .” Morgan said, giving me a hug like he does every morning.
“Why?” I said pouting before smiling again.
“Because Hotch is on a warpath this morning.” Prentiss said walking to her desk to start her report. Wait Prentiss actually doing a report this early in the morning that's not good.
“Team grab your bags. I'll brief you on the plane.” All we got from Hotch before he walked into the elevator.
On the plane all Hotch did was brief us before shutting down and just staring at the file in front of him.
He did the same thing at the station. We were there for more than 5 hours when he excused us so we could rest at the hotel.
“They only have 3 rooms for us so we’ll have to triple up on one of the rooms.” JJ said
“Okay Me, JJ and Reid then Morgan and Rossi and Y/N Hotch.” Prentiss said smiling at me. She was one of the only people to know about my crush. While we walk to our rooms I pull her and Morgan aside.
“You guys can’t make me room with Him. He's in a bad mood and I don’t like bad moods.” I said I was scared that Hotch would rip my head off in my sleep.
“Hey you fixed Reid when he had his bad days you can fix Hotch.” Morgan said walking away happily. I groan and walk to my room which my roommate has already got into.
“Hello Sir if you don’t mind I’m going to take a shower.” He nodded his head before his eye returned to the file. As I finished I realized I left my pj bottom back at home shit.
“Umm Sir could you close your eyes till I say to open them.” I said behind the bathroom door.
“Umm I guess.” was all he said before I ran and hid under the cover to cover my lower half.
“ Okay Your good.” I said trying to get comfortable. But knowing he was in a bad mood made me uncomfortable.
“Sir I know this is going to be very inappropriate but could you tell me what is making you all upset. It’s just that I can feel the bad vibe physically spilling out of your pores and that is not a good thing for anybody.” I said trying to be nice.
I hear a chuckle before he actually begins to speak. “Well Y/N the other day when you stopped by Haley wasn’t home because she left me and thought that I work too much and it just makes me feel horrible because I took an oath to protect this country but also a vow to be with my wife. And now my job is the reason I’m losing my family. Hailey handed me divorce papers yesterday.” He said, his eyes finally leaving the file.
“ I mean I don’t mean to sound rude but if she can’t stick by your side for a job that makes you happy or something that you want to do it might be for the better.” I said matter of factly.
“Sorry to say Y/L/N but you're a kid that probably doesn’t know how to hold a real relationship so you don’t know how adults love each other.” He said looking at me. Wow, rude. I do know how to hold a relationship. At this point I was mad and said something I shouldn’t have.
“Well Hotchner you’re job is the reason she is leaving.” I said looking straight into his eyes.
“What?” He asked me, moving closer to my bed.
“She's cheating on you Idiot. She’s the one who doesn’t know how to hold an adult relationship.” once the words left my mouth my hands flew to cover it.
“How long have you known?” he asked hurt in his eyes again.
“A few weeks.” I said looking at my fingers.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” his eyes never leaving me.
“She threatened that she would…… she would ugh shewouldtellyouthatIlikeyou.” I said the last part as fast as I could.
“My Haley threatens you.” He said surprised.
“Yes Sir and I was scared I didn’t want to be outed but also risk the chance of you being hurt.” I said tracing the circle on the bed sheet.
“Aaron.”
“Huh.”
“Y/N my name is Aaron and if we are going to talk about our personal lives You can call me Aaron.” I look up to see a small smile on his face. “So enough about my wife. How long has this little crush of yours been going on?” he asked, moving onto my bed.
“Umm since my first day at the BUA.” his hand lifting my chin up.
“And today when you asked to close my eyes. What was that?” He asked
“Well I forgot my pj bottoms at home and you're a married man so that would be wrong if you saw me in my underwear.” I said looking at the gorgeous face of his.
“So kissing you would be a bad thing since I’m still married.” He said leaning in closer to me.
“Y---sss SSSSir” I put my hand on his chest to stop him from getting closer. “But when your divorce is finalized then it wouldn't be a bad thing anymore.” I said smiling before I laid down. He looked down at me before returning to his own bed. Before sleeping he said something
“Well I better sign those papers fast. There’s this amazing girl waiting for me.

Dolled Up and Underdressed // 2
Promises, part II
Brooke shut the door behind herself, only to open it if any of the wandering Wainscots knocked a code. On the surface, the shed was nothing out of the ordinary. Hedge clippers. Garden hose. Charcoal, propane, and logs. Some spare parts and local wares. A hidden door behind some shelves and paneling. Going through said door, however, the comfy cabin stretched underground beyond its cozy, cup size into the beefed-up bunker it really was.
Posters became historical maps. Instruction booklets for lawn tools became test plans. The wood was now metal and LEDs. Various files and other personals were stacked and stored across and around lines of tables and stations of varied roles, all of which they’d rather die for than reveal to any outsider. Crossing her arms, Brooke strutted down the center path and reunited with Garrett at its end.
There, at the hub of it all, wearing matching glowers, Brooke joined in with him keying in the final characters of a ridiculous sequence into a specialized console.
The last symbol was entered into its keyboard, its screen began to buffer, and then they waited.
And then they waited.
They waited, losing hope, looking for all the ‘last resorts’ in reaching distance. The piercers. The navigators. The bottles and boxes and all they contained.
Optimism quickly started to plummet, but they still waited all the while… until it wasn’t needed anymore.
They were here.
The monitor eventually stopped processing, indicating with a jingle that contact was made. The Wainscots’ breaths were held as hard as their hands, and only determination kept them inside at the appearance of their interlocutor.
The display’s girth being comparable to a mattress, longer than Garrett’s height and broader than his wingspan, left nothing to the imagination. Every hair, pore, and hue on the answerer’s face was present and accounted for. Relating their glamour and airbrushed features to the rustic naturalness Brooke and Garrett donned would’ve seemed nonsensical from the outside looking in. But it was that extravagant look, on top of the muffled atmospherics in the background, that proved their connection right.
Disregarding the effort to make greetings, the protective parents began the conversation.
“The caravan’s left,” Garrett gruffly announced.
Brooke followed suit with her own sighs. “She’s… on her way.”
“I have already been made aware of that,” the dame on screen, one of Them, addressed, somewhat preoccupied. Her side of the video conference appeared to be filmed from a handheld device. As products began to pile on her face from below the frame, one could guess it was combined with a makeup compact. Her dolling up eventually ended, and she continued with her full attention and appreciation. “But I appreciate you informing me, regardless… despite your disquiet.”
Brooke gave a slight bow of farewell before turning back toward the outside. The farther forward she went back up the shelter, the warmer it became, but she chilled again when she noticed no footsteps following her. A glance behind her shoulders found Garrett continuing to talk on the call, and his audience of one appeared to be listening intently.
They were struck silent. The incongruity between lifestyles and demeanors was incredible.
“I understand your unease,” Hailey’s soon-chaperone commiserated, tucking some hair behind an ear, shining more light on the gems that hung from it. “Really, I do. But I assure you. We are on the same side.”
The soft shock that the couple wore immediately evaporated off their faces. Such niceness from someone so well-off was more than unbelievable.
“If that were the case,” Brooke tested, a hand on her hip, “then you’d know why I can’t believe that.”
“The trophy wife aesthetic you’re painting on yourself sure isn’t helping your attempt at humility, either,” Garrett huffed in accordance.
Now, it was the duenna that was caught off-guard. To go after her customs was one thing, but to go after her appearance was low. Not only was the sentiment false, but it was also just rude. Rude in a way to set someone off beyond their usual limit.
As the subject of the jab, she didn’t take it lightly. “Because being a so-called ‘trophy’ is definitely worse than being—!”
Before she could complete a comeback, a new, disembodied speaker entered the call. The silhouette reflected in her eyes verified it was another person in the room, rather than just a voice. The words resonated with bass but not in an overbearing way. It held control without an iron fist as she spoke back to it. At least, that was all Hailey’s parents could guess from the sudden language barrier.
A series of syllables that sounded painful to reproduce yet melodious flew around them, and they knew they had a better chance of guessing how many freckles their bun in the oven had than whatever they were saying. The words they spoke were unknown, though body language was apparently universal. Over twenty years of binding with the same person built much experience in emotion expression for Brooke, and she would’ve bet all that she could safely give away on her confidence in Player Four’s identity.
“Is that your husband?” she inquired, garnering a presumptive look from her own spouse.
The question smacked the faraway set of speakers like a pile of bricks, muzzling them in an instant. The matron gazed deeply into the screen, focusing more so on Garrett to catch what Brooke mentioned about him that she must have missed. When Brooke repeated her query, this time in the past tense, clarity on the opposite end was reached. However, as the fourth soul in the fray remained unaddressed, the shed dwellers were still left in the dark.
After a pointed pause, they were brought into the loop, but that pointing left more to be desired,
“That’s… a word for my partner.”
Brooke and Garrett shared a look between themselves, counting all the definitions such wording could have for that relationship. The fiery reentrance of the fourth soul – the woman’s husband – in that brusque, foreign tongue shortened that list in some ways and lengthened it in others. What then bubbled into a presumed marital spat grew uncomfortable to watch, but such chips in their perfect personas were somewhat humbling.
One could’ve said they were relatable, but then the last resorts would’ve had to have been brought out.
“Ahem,” the interlocutor lady cleared her voice after some time, attempting to swerve the call back on its intended course. “Apologies. Yes, that is my husband.”
Neither Wainscot said anything immediately, but Garrett expected for the interjecting gentlemen to at least introduce himself. They had already met, but courtesy was always appreciated. Why else would the call still be happening?
Just as the fans of the shed automatically flicked on, the encompassing mood dropped with the lowering temperature, Garrett going first to spit ice. “It’s nice of him to show how much he cares about our daughter’s safety by being off-frame.”
The outlying wife, with a quick gasp, spread her lips to respond, but her voice wasn’t the one to reply. The sir, from afar, countered for himself, combating the diss with his own frozen singes. “It’s as nice as your assumptions of us: they who are about to host her in their home. We’ve given you no major reasons to distrust us, aside from the lax acquaintanceship.”
Not liking anything that could’ve been inferred from that, Brooke was next to debate. “I think you have a different definition of ‘major’ where you’re from. Like hell, we should trust you.”
“Well,” the doyenne carped, “whether or not you should, you are.” She then set a hand – the one not holding her communication device – atop her heart for emphasis. “Hailey’s safety is our top priority, too, and we genuinely thank you for opening your hearts and letting her come into our lives.”
“She is a grown woman,” Brooke tersely defined. “She can make her own decisions, and she wanted to do this, despite not knowing the full story. I would’ve given her more to go on about it, but… consider my censorship, at your request, my part of this trust trade.”
Her last statement came out more like a grumble, but it was heard. A surprise to be heard, for sure, but it was heard.
“That sounds like you actually didn’t try anything,” the distant don said in disbelief. “Huh.”
“A surprise, indeed,” his other half concurred, “and I promise your compromising will be in your favor. As discomforting as I’m sure this seems on your end, this is the best way for us to be transparent.”
“By taking away our choice and hiding your truth?” Garrett argued through gritted teeth.
“By showing her rather than telling,” the other man pressed with similar roughness. “It’s harder to deny reality when it’s right in front of you. ‘Actions speak louder than words,’ or so you humans say.”
“‘You humans!?’” the Wainscots scoffed, his tone turning them sour.
“Forgive him,” the glamorous gal apologized on her husband’s behalf. “Hailey may be an
honorable guest invited to our event, but tonight is one for him to be in the spotlight, and it’s getting to him.” An almost inaudible growl came out from outside the screen, perhaps insinuating another rift between the couple. Retreating footsteps soon followed. “That being said,” she resumed, now alone, “he and I hope that you all and we can, one day, meet at the gates of friendship.”
The counselor level commentary was uncalled for, but Brooke was curious enough to bite at the lure for elucidation. “Meaning we’re currently…?”
“Conversing via a bred parcel bird, and I assume the gifts of thanks ours brought you do suffice for now?”
A look of consideration rose from Brooke’s eyes toward Garrett’s above hers. As much bribery with hints of blackmail this ongoing charade was, all for Hailey to be a plus-one for some boy, they would be dumb to pass on free funding.
“I… suppose,” Garrett gave in, catching Brooke’s drift, “and we’re to expect more within the day?”
“All goes well at the gala and between our babies, and you’ll find more than that,” the matron promised fruitily. “We’re fortunate to be in a position to give our surplus toward better use and greater rapport with you.”
Brooke was ready to end the conversation at that. As much as she wanted to see Hailey arrive at the spot, proving her safety in transit, she knew she wouldn’t handle seeing it in real-time. Pregnancy already pulled so much energy out of her. Her now two oldest children being out of her hands was anxiety-inducing. Dillon’s present in confidentiality was terrible, and his future was never guaranteed to be sunshine and daisies. Hailey’s advent, meanwhile, despite its pledges of protection and pleasure, looked much grimmer in her mother’s eyes, but it was too far in progress to be reversed now.
And, so, she could only hope for the best, wishing her well, struggling to calm her own pulse.
A pinch of insecurity bubbled through Brooke as she wasn’t so deep in herself to not notice the other woman’s allure. But it only took the money – the actual appearance of metal coins about as wide as the dame’s glazed fingertips on screen – for such thoughts to vanish.
It was all for the bag, and what a priceless bag it was.
Coins like those had become such frequent additions to the Wainscot fortune in the recent months. Those handheld coins on display probably would, too, sooner or later. Much time was spent with them, but they, themselves, were never expended. It would’ve been impossible without raising a barrage of red flags.
The systems the Wainscots knew had their unique ways with customs and currencies, depending on who was making the transactions. Usually, the exchange rates were easy to come by, as frustrating as they were to do just to get a subpar product. However, the new acquaintances were at such an extreme echelon for so many reasons that there wasn’t a rate. There literally was no calculatable price to put on the offering, and they all knew it. Yet, they were the best trade – well, the least degrading barter conjectured – and Brooke and Garrett immediately found a use for them when the deal was accepted.
The conversation transformed into a heated debate about what had and should become of the gifts, with Garrett both pressing to get more of them and reluctantly thanking their givers simultaneously. The plating and gildings that decorated the bunker so far weren’t there a season ago. More test cases for the once-canceled experiments were added. The lumps and chips in their wedding rings were smoothed, refilled, and shined.
New plans for another graduation gift for Hailey had been made. A new mold to upgrade her namesake tools of the trade was forged not long ago, and the casting for it may have been getting made at that moment. Through a one-way peephole, Brooke saw her younglings still in the yard, following through with much of the drama popping off in the background.
Addy, despite her attitude being as bouncy as her and her mother’s hair, wasn’t a girl of many words. But she had many an interest, many of which only Hailey and Tuck seemed to get out of her. For once, Tuck had the upper hand over all his older siblings, able to give her insights that no one else dared to and that Hailey couldn’t yet do. He tucked his sister next to him as they gazed into a telescope together. The attachment on its lens looked MacGyvered as all hell, especially with it pointed at superficially nothing important. But he knew that wasn’t the case.
Tuck knew, and Addy would learn soon from his teachings. Brooke, not wanting him to do so but choosing not to stop him, lurched but knew. Having ignited a dispute, Garrett obviously knew. Dill even knew a bit but had more than enough distractions to render him to forget. Hailey would know more than any of them before the day was over.
Fitz, all the while, sat alone, enjoying his time as the most knowledgeable child while he could. Partially from his parents’ aggravation and partially from general interest and natural skill, he was the chosen soul to make Hailey’s enhancement into a reality. With the modulated voices of both Hailey’s date and his, from the Wainscot parents’ point-of-view, ever domineering dad coming in headphones over some ambient but obviously exotic music, Fitz followed their instructions on how to forge their presented metals to a T.
The scene was tranquil, but Brooke never soothed her nerves while viewing it. Her husband maintaining an argument with their associates didn’t help, but that wasn’t why. Even if relations were placid, there would always be a cloud of danger over them. The constant badgering from the feds they already had would just increase if this got out.
The Wainscots had enough supply to combat any quarry, cave, or army on the planet, and they were only going to get more to use and peruse. The youngest pair used some to look again at a dot in the sky cited nowhere on the internet from whence it came. The middle child had to stay focused to not near-fatally harm himself once again from the metals melting with the same, outlandish glow as that once-hidden dot.
All of it from another world and those who lived on it. All of it their makers’ and Their inconsequential slivers and shavings to be thrown away. All of them half as tall as their new recipients, having made dents and the occasional ravine in the ground when they were first nonchalantly and literally dropped off. All of them with profiles of people’s portraits and symbols etched on them as large as their own heads.
Monies poured from fingertips that looked like theirs but rivaled the firmament in magnitude. Brooke’s baby’s presence was traded for them – for Them – was being transacted to Them currently as she breathed.
Barely.
“Stars above,” she radiated to the heavens with one hand on her belly and the other on her heart, “see Rosebud through.”

Same Dream, New District
Tumblr media
Gif credit @zeroxday
Requested by @multifandom123456
This is my first personal imagine. I don't normally do these so I tried, hope I did it justice. Hope you enjoy it. Thank you for requesting.
Happy Reading Dollies.
"My names Indiana Gomez, I'm twenty five. I'm a hard worker, I learn fast and I can take order. My dad use to work with Hank Voight so I'm familiar with a hard boss. I will learn to live with the chaos  that is district twenty one". You rambled off to the desk manager that day at CPD.
"Listen lady if you want to join district 21 you'll have to go through Seragant Trudy Platt". He said with half a donut hanging out of his mouth.
"Is she here"? "My mom and her go way back". You said with a smile.
"No". "Now would you please go, I have work to do". He groaned as he walked off.
"Yeah feeding your face with donuts, I can see where everyone thinks cops just sit around eating donuts. They must have met you". You growled. Turning around you heard a clap coming from the steps.
"That was funny". A tall handsome man came walking down the stairs. "I'm Kevin Attwater". He placed his hand out, you gladly shook it.
"Indiana Gomez". You replied with a smile.
"Is there anything I could help you with"?
"By any chance you know a Hank Voight or a Trudy Platt"?
"I happen to know both of them, Voight's my boss".
"You work for Hank"?
"Yeah, he's in charge of intelligence".
"Wow so super cops"? The question made you both laugh.
"Yeah, you can say that". He bit his lower lip and looked at you sweetly. Making you blush.
Looking at your watch you scorned your self. "Shit, I'm late for work".
"Oh". Kevin sounded a little down.
"Can you tell Trudy and Hank that I was here"? "Please".
"Yeah, sure no problem". "Um where can they find you"?
"I work at the coffee shop down the road beside the dry cleaners".
"The new one they just opened"?
"Yeah, it's called Java my beans". Kevin let out a loud laugh, making you giggle.
"That is a stupid name for a coffee shop".
"Yeah that's what I said when I applied there".
"And they still hired you"? "Huh".
"Yeah, well I have to go. It was nice meeting you Kevin". You say as you started to walk away. He waved goodbye with a smile.
"I can't believe she's back, I haven't seen her in years". Hank told Trudy as they walked into Java my beans.
"Do you see her"? Trudy asked as they both looked around the coffee shop.
"Let me go ask". Hank went to the register.
"Excuse me, does a Indiana Gomez work here"?
"Hank"? You turned around, surprised they showed up so fast.
"Indiana". Hank reached over the counter and hugged you tightly.
"Wow, you've grown". Trudy came up and hugged you next.
"Yeah, I ate my vegetables". You said which made you all laugh.
"You want to sit down"? Trudy asked.
"Sure". You followed them to a table.
"How's life"? Hank asked folding his hands putting them on the table.
"Its okay". You said pushing a piece of hair from your face.
"What's up"?
"Nothing, mom and I moved to a new apartment, I got fired from district dickville and I think I found my future husband". You smiled as you thought of Kevin.
"Fired? At what district?". Hank asked sternly.
"At district 32. They were all assholes and I told them how it was".
"You and your mouth are going to get you into trouble, young lady". Trudy chuckled as she shook her head.
"My partner wasn't watching my back and we got into a altercation. I kicked him in his small balls and gave him a bloody nose".
"Indiana". Hank warned you.
"You should have came to me".
"I handled it, and I'm not sorry. That's the real reason I got fired cause I wouldn't say sorry".
"So how long you been working here"?
"Since they opened, haven't been opened for very long".
"Well you give your two weeks notice, you're going to work at the station doing odd jobs for Trudy and I". Hank looked at Trudy and she agreed.
"I don't want any hand outs, Hank".
"Its not a hand out, I promised your father that I would watch out for you and so far I'm not doing a very god job at it". He let out a husky chuckle.
"Okay.
"Tomorrow you come by the station and meet the crew. You need to know who's who before you start".
"Yes Uncle Hank and Aunt Trudy". You sarcastically said.
"Smartass". The three of you laughed.
You arrived an hour early just so you'll be there when Hank got there to show him you were all business and this is what you wanted to do with your life. No joking around.
"Sergeant Voight". You greeted him.
"Indiana, call me Hank". He rolled his eyes.
"Yes sir". You said as you followed him up the stairs.
The crew was slowly coming in. You met Adam and you already knew Alvin. Kevin came in with a smile as he saw you. Then you met Jay and Hailey.
During the day they saw you and Kevin sneak looks at each other and the flirtation was so thick they could cut it with a knife.
"He's not seeing anyone". Jay whispered in your ear as you got coffee for Hank.
"I don't know what you're talking about, detective". You stirred the coffee with a smirk.
"He likes you too so go after it".
"You just met me and now you're trying to hook me up with your friend". "Really"?
"Well Voight talked about you the whole time when he came back and Kevin hasn't shut up since the day he met you". "All good things of course". Jay added as you looked at him oddly.
"I don't know. I just started here and don't want to get off on the wrong foot by dating a co-worker". You said shrugging your shoulders.
"I think you two would  be perfect for each other".
"Thanks but we'll see". "So don't say anything to anyone". You warned Jay.
He locked his lips and threw away the key with a wink.
"Thanks". You oddly laughed at him, taking Hank his coffee.
Months have gone by and you were doing great at CPD, you were working full time as a police officer with Trudy. She found you a nice partner that she trusted and who you would get along with. During those months you and Kevin had started dating secretly until Hank found you two at Molly's singing, dancing and kissing on each other. The one time you bring your relationship out in public is the time he comes to Molly's. You both were shocked when he was cool with it, you were like a daughter to him and you thought he would kill him or depromote Kevin's position but he didn't. So you thought.
"Indiana Gomez". Hanks harsh voice called from up stairs as you were talking to Trudy.
"Coming". You looked at Trudy with a worried face.
"My office now". He opened the door for you and closed it behind you.
"Sir"?
"Sit". You took the seat as you bit on your lower lip.
"You've been working for us for awhile now, I see that you're a hard worker, you do your job. Keep your nose clean and out of trouble. You show sportsmanship and caring for others so that's why I'm promoting you to Detective Indiana Gomez CPD intelligence". Hank handed you a pair of handcuffs as a gift.
"Your dad would be proud of you". "I know he's watching over you and at this moment he's probably giving you a hell yeah". Hank chuckled.
Tear slipped down your cheeks. "Thank you so much Hank, you don't know what this means to me. I have wanted this since I was a kid and you've made it come true. Thank you". You went to hug Hank.
"You've earned it kid". Hank smiled as the others came in and congratulated you. Kevin gave you a quick peck on the lips as Hank didnt allow you to show too much affection in his presence.
Your dads dream was continuing with you and you hoped that you will keep making him proud in the future.

44, 100, and 101
Prompt: 44.
The windows of the building have a stained glass design on them, it made Dustin think of an old Victorian church. One light is present in the whole building, feeling the blood on his forehead rolling down his cheek, Dustin is not the type to let his nerves run haywire; but right now he is letting his anxiety get to his head. Dustin’s vision isn’t as sharp as he would like to be and his head feels heavy, his neck is having a hard time holding his head up. He is trying to control his neck movements; but nothing is working. His head finally rolls to the left and drops down to his chest, after a few minutes of him trying to control his breathing. He opens his eyes once more, his vision is starting to get clearer as time passes.
Looking around the building he spots a black cat on a ledge of one of the windows, he sees little specks of dust fill the air when the cat turns towards him. The cats yellow irises stare back at him, A soft and short meow comes from the mammal as it jumps down from the ledge. He then examines his body, his short and thin frame is tied to a steel metal chair. Seeing zip ties on his wrists he starts to try and break them but with no luck he feels defeated. Remembering his training he looks at the zip ties again and starts to put both of his hands straight out in front of him, touching his wrists together. Turning his right hand quarter-turn clockwise and his left quarter-turn counterclockwise rotating them slowly until the back of both of his wrists touch together. Defeating the zip ties and standing up stretching his arms he runs to the door that was locked. Banging on the door he screams for somebody to get him out here.
Out of nowhere he hears a television turn on, he hears a familiar voice say his name.
His mother.
“Dustin If your watching this that then that means I’ve been taken”
His eyes start to water as he watches the tv screen that his mounted to the wall. Dustin then hears as she explains why she being kidnapped and what he has to do to save her. He then knows why he was in this building
The Order of the Ethereal Key.
He told the wrong person the wrong thing and now he is paying for it.
With his mother’s life.
As he is standing there he sees a shadow come from the dark corner on his right, Dustin is ready to fight to find his mother with every being in his body.
Closing his eyes he keeps repeating to himself.
“This is a dream”
“This is a dream”
“This is a dream”
When he opens them he finds himself in his bedroom under the covers and Dustin hears a knock at his door.
“Dustin hurry up your late….I made breakfast so come down, so it won’t get cold.”
His mother’s voice is on the other side.
It really was a dream.
But he knows that his dreams always come true, and now he has to figure out how to stop his dream from happening.
Prompt: 100 & 101
“Mr. Kinson I’m telling you everything will be fine after this surgery.” Dr. Olivia spoke to her 46 year old patient who was undergoing an appendectomy early in the morning the next day.
The older gentleman’s wife and two kids were sitting in the chairs next him trying to calm him down, placing their hands on his shoulders. They observe how her honeyed voice turns high the minute she spoke those words to their Father/Husband.
“Are you sure-” The mother voiced to Olivia.
Olivia interrupted her mid sentence, “I’m positive, this is one of the easiest surgeries ever….plus he is in great care.”
One of the nurses, Riley who is working the floor comes into the room and checks his IV drip. Turning towards the family and repeats, “He really is in great care” Pointing to Olivia; Riley presents a smile on her face. “She is one of the best surgeons in the hospital.”
As she was leaving his daughter peers over to Riley and sees her fingers crossed behind her.
Tugging on her mom’s shirt the 25 year old expressed to her mom how she wasn’t sure she wanted Dr. Olivia to perform this surgery on her father.
“I’m sorry I forgot what you all’s names were?” Olivia quizzes as she goes through her tablet looking over Mr. Kinson’s charts.
The mother replies while looking at both of her children, her blue eyes widen as she has told Olivia two times what their names were but she repeats them for the third time. “Well I’m Erin and this is my son Ocean and my daughter Poet.”
“Well Ocean…Poet I promise your father will be in good hands”
Olivia was lying.
The nurses knew she was lying.
Poet knew she was lying.
Nobody spoke up to stop her.
Nobody reported her to the authorities.
Nobody knew what she was doing in the operating theater but they knew a lot more people where coming out dead than they were living.
The next morning came and keeping up with her track record Mr. Kinson died.
The next couple of months were hard for the Kinson family; Erin couldn’t keep up with the bills, her kids were having trouble pay attention in their college classes and the house was on the verge of a foreclosure.
After the death of their father, Poet tried to tell the higher ups of the hospital that Dr. Olivia was to blame but of course they didn’t believe the young woman and went in favor of their senior resident. She then saw the evil side of modern day medicine, looking up Dr. Olivia’s different cases. Seeing where she worked before and calling those different hospitals up, asking them about the 52 year old surgeon’s past patients and their deaths.
Poet now has an idea of who she is dealing with and she is mad at herself for not pushing her father to a different hospital. She also knows that she is dealing with a manipulator who gets her way, all the time.
But not this time.
Poet vowed to never let Dr. Olivia hurt another Man, Woman, or Child ever again.
Poet was taking the law into her own hands.
Olivia had just gotten back from her PTO in Jamaica, driving her car up the driveway she parks the car in front of her garage. The sky is filled with stars and a half crescent moon, Olivia started to get her suitcases from the back seat of her car. She sees her porch lights are on which is odd because she knows she didn’t leave them on when she left for her vacation just 2 weeks ago. Remembering she told one her good friends to house sit for her she is relieved to know that she is still here.
Turning her key into her front door she immediately notices her formal living room is a mess and there is blood everywhere. Now Panicking Olivia’s eyes spot the kitchen where a pot is boiling, calling out to her friend she slowly steps over a broken vase. “Hailey!!”
Not hearing a sound Olivia hears someone come down the stairs, their footsteps are heavy with each step they take. She quickly backs up near the front of her door, turning the knob she feels the door handle lock.
She can’t get out.
Running to kitchen she quickly goes to her knife block, seeing all the knives are gone she starts to look in her drawers. Tears are flowing from her eyes as she is trying to retrieve just one knife from kitchen. Finally finding one she turns around and is faced with Poet who has blood all over her shirt.
Poet steps towards her with bat in her hand.
“Poet please your scaring me….what is all of this?”
Poet smiles at the older woman “Olivia, Please put the knife down…I’m not going to hurt you.”
Gripping the knife tighter Olivia doesn’t believe her, “You put the bat down!!” Swinging the knife in front of her.
Poet dodges her swings and lets go of the bat “I told you I’m not going to hurt you”
A menacing smile overtakes her face, one that reminds Olivia of the Cheshire cat in Alice in wonderland.
“I won’t hurt you…” Olivia then sees Poet point behind her and she slowly turns around to see 4 pairs of eyes looking back at her.
“But they are”
Feeling something cover her face Olivia’s eyes start to get blurry and her head is foggy, she lets darkness consume her.

Bryce Colt (Father): Elle and Bryce have a much better relationship now that Elle is grown. It was difficult for her to have her dad gone so often as a kid, and once she was allowed to help run and organize the missions she felt like she had a proper duty.
Regina Colt (Mother): Regina died shortly after giving birth to Elle in a hunting mission gone wrong. Elle remembers nothing about her, though she knows they look similar.
Brittney Colt (Step-Mother): Unlike her brothers, Elle likes Brittney. She doesn’t remember much of Regina and has seen Brittney as her mom her whole life. Elle has tried to get Blaine to open up and see the good in her, but he flat out refuses.
Sibling Names:
Blaine Colt (Brother): Blaine expects a lot out of Elle and holds her to the same degree as Colin and himself. This is how the three of them have led such a successful group in Chicago. However, this has led to Elle taking up a habit of lying when she doesn’t want to deal with his lack of help or advice.
Colin Colt (Brother): Elle loves Colin, but knows he thinks too much with his heart. He is a little more overprotective than Blaine, but still expects Elle to deal with his and everyone else’s bullshit. She lies to him too, but mostly to keep a check on his temper. If he knew how many people have taken a run at their family, he’d lose it.
Amy Colt ( Half Sister): Amy is Elle’s best friend. They grew up together, and she sees her the same way she sees Colin and Blaine. They hang around each other constantly, and have keys to each other’s houses and apartments. Amy is one of the few people Elle doesn’t feel like she has to be ‘on’ for.
Casper Colt (Half-Brother): Casper is...Casper. He has a lot of unearned arrogance, but Elle doesn’t believe that’s his fault. It’s in their blood, and she thinks she may be the only one to remember Blaine and Colt’s unbearable ego periods. She’s considering sending him out on a local mission to let him prove himself.
Alice Colt (Half-Sister): Elle has tried bonding with Alice, but it never really feels like she wants to spend time with her. She is impressed with Alice’s ability to just keep going, especially after losing her arm.

Platonic Connections:
Megan Colt (Cousin): Megan is like another sister to her. She fits so well with Amy and her, and when working together the three are unstoppable.
Iris Colt (Cousin): Elle really enjoys Iris and Hailey, and she sees a lot of her and Amy’s relationship in theirs. However, ever since Iris was given away to be betrothed, Elle can’t look at her. She feels guilty for letting Iris take the hit, instead of her.
Hailey Colt (Cousin): Hailey through her a curveball when she informed her that she had dyslexia. It did fill in the blanks as to why she thought Lilly’s would be best for her. She is looking for something with more meaning that her cousin could do, without revealing her learning issues with the whole family.
Imani Anderson (Sister-In-Law): Elle gets along really well with Imani. She thinks that she was the exact thing Blaine needed in a partner. She has learned a lot from the information Imani has shared about how the Andersons run things, and is glad a connection could be made without forcibly marrying someone off.
Sarah Harris (Liaison): Elle really respects Sarah, for an animal shifter. She was very communicative when they first began becoming active in Chicago and pointed out the non-supernatural monsters, like pedophiles and abusers, that the Colts could be taking care of. She makes an effort to keep her family away from the Harris family to avoid unnecessary spoiling of relationships.
Alexus Anderson (Friend): When Imani married into the family, Alexus started sharing her network with them. This has opened a lot of doors for their family. Lately, Elle and Alexus have bonded beyond business casual and Elle sees her as a true and worthy ‘in-law’. Elle is trying to stay out of the ‘take-over’ mess.
Grant Anderson (Friend): Grant is Imani's father and has bonded with Blaine with ease. Elle was surprised when he extended his friendship and knowledge to her and Colin. However, due to her friendship with Alexus, Elle is unsure about his plans on taking over and becoming the new head of the Anderson family.
Thea Stone (Friend): Thea and Elle bonded when Elle was engaged with James. Their relationship was rocky after Elle called it off but after meeting Molly and connecting the dots, Thea and Elle’s friendship started up again.
Mary Ametheon (Friend): Mary and Elle bonded when Elle was engaged with James. Mary always told her she deserved better and even encouraged Elle to break it off with Stone. Elle thinks Mary knew about Molly and did not know how else to tell her. Elle has started inviting Mary into her folds but is playing it slow.
D.W. Colt (Friend): Elle likes D.W. a lot. She thinks she calms Colin’s more fiery temper and appreciates that she fights for the victims of Chicago. One of her biggest fights with Imani has been over D.W. and her desire to dig further into her past.
Hostile Connections:
James Stone (Hate): She was going to force herself to marry the arrogant, snob that is the Stone heir, until she found out he was cheating on her and had no intention of stopping. Elle broke off the engagement, without giving a reason to anyone, especially her brothers. Now he’s marrying his side piece and apparently all is right in the world.
Molly Bennett (Dislike): Elle firmly believes in not hating the other woman since it was the man’s choice, but she draws the line when the person is willing to be a pseudo concubine. She knew what she was doing, and it drives Elle insane that they’re getting married like they never were doing anything wrong.
Nina Stone (Dislike): Nina seems like she is trying to prove herself to the Stone family and her husband, Matt Stone. After accusing Colin of stealing her underwear and embarrassing him, Elle pulled her aside and showed her true Colt colors. Now, Nina automatically leaves Lilly's everytime Elle walks in.
Amaria Crais (Strained): Amaria was quickly becoming a friend and relaxed in Elle presences until Alice arm was bitten off. Alice has taken to stalking the Clan Cat territory and Amaria refused to help or point out which of her clan did it.
Kylo ‘Nada’ Rajul (Liaison): Elle feels like her relationship with Nada completely flipped overnight and she’s unsure why. Hyenas have been being recklessly changed, with no rhyme or reason, and they’re not trying to keep those bitten controlled. She’s tried countless times to talk with the Hyena’s leader and Nada, but has gotten no response back. Elle is going to let her family start picking them off for sport if they don’t get their act together.
