A/N: Hello lovely! Wow I loved writing this request! First Darth Vader request, woo! It was so fun to write because the entire time I felt I could see this all playing out! Thank you for the request and support! I appreciate it so much! Feedback is always welcome and appreciated, I really hope that you all enjoy this one!!
Summary: You finally reach the force signature that had been reaching out with you for weeks, only to realize it's none other than Darth Vader, the boy you once raised.
PART TWO, PART THREE, PART FOUR
Tumblr media
(gif! not mine!)
"Rex, take care of Ahsoka for me... I know how badly she wants to be on this mission. I can't risk it," you mumbled through the holo-comm as you carefully landed your ship.
"You know I always will. She's busy with Ezra right now anyways, so hopefully, he'll keep her mind occupied. Just be safe. If this is Maul, we need to know why he's been reaching out to you," Rex replied, his voice sounding tired.
You sighed, clicking everything off before standing, "Don't worry, Rex. It'll work out. I'll be home within a rotation."
"You better be," Rex joked lightly, "Be safe (y/n). May the force be with you."
"And with you."
Clicking off the holo-comm and leaving it on the ship, you quickly set off outside. Pulling up the hood on your grey cloak, you looked around cautiously, taking in your surroundings and using the force to reach out.
You could feel the dark side of the force more prominently now that you were here. It was almost strong enough to make out a force signature, but not completely. Despite the fact you still seemed far away from the dark force energy, it felt incredibly familiar, and that was what lead you to believe it was Maul. After all, he was the only Sith whose force signature you were familiar with.
It didn't take long for you to find the correct path leading to the Sith. Following the dark force signature proved to be an easy task for you. You trekked through the forest for what felt like hours. You carefully avoided all unknown plants and made sure to keep your presence as obscure as possible. You were using the force to the best advantage you could, mapping out your path while still trying to identify the oddly familiar Sith signature.
Finally breaking out into a clearing, you held your breath at the sight of Darth Vader's back. His cloak swooshed in the light breeze as you watched him, quickly thinking over everything you'd ever heard about him. You felt like you were in a holo-film, at the big climax moment when you face off the main villain. Fog would be piling in, surrounding you and Darth Vader as you prepare to fight.
Undoubtedly he knew you were there, and despite the fact, the two of you had never encountered each other before, your force signatures were incredibly familiar. Dancing around each other like fawns, trying to figure out why the unknown was so incredibly welcoming, like coming back to an old friend.
"I did not know you'd survived Order 66," Vader's ominous voice broke through the silence, venom, and hatred surrounding each word.
Slowly you stepped out from the faint protection of the trees, "It wasn't of my knowledge that you even knew me."
"I don't," Vader replied curtly, allowing a pause as your signatures moved around one another, "You're a Jedi unaccounted for."
"I prefer it that way," You snarled.
Dashing forward at the same moment Vader's force signature delivered a harsh prod to your own, you unsheathed your lightsaber. Leaping into the air and slashing down on Vader's back, you made contact with his lightsaber, sparks of grey and red dancing in the calm aura of the planet. He was quick to spin and send a counter swing at you, but you blocked it quickly. You locked sabers and spun him around, doing your best to throw him off.
Despite the situation of your fighting, you found each other still dancing within the force, trying to identify each other's signature. Your fighting was incredibly familiar to him, and his defense was familiar to you. Akin to a thunderstorm, you both fought quickly and powerfully. Neither obtaining the upper hand, you matched perfectly clash after clash, block after block.
Your fierce fighting was like a tornado destroying a small town. The planet around you was calm and peaceful, undisturbed by the fight for life you'd engaged yourself in. It certainly wasn't Maul who'd been trying to connect with you over the past weeks, and you found yourself wishing that it had been the Dathomirian instead. You'd overcome enough and lost too much to not give up now.
Finally flipping away, your hood fell as your force signatures connected, a gasp tumbling from your lips, "Anakin?"
"Master (y/l/n)," Vader responded softly.
A silence fell as you stared at one another. Of course, he was familiar. You trained Anakin, helped Obi-Wan raise him. You'd been Anakin's mom ever since he'd joined the Jedi, and he, your son. You'd assumed he'd died in Order 66, as Obi-Wan refused to talk to you. But now, staring across at Anakin in Vader's armor, you felt more like a failure than you'd ever had.
"You traded the purple for grey," Vader noted, causing you to look down at your blade.
Looking up at Anakin, you fought to keep your voice strong, "You traded blue for red, Ani."
"Anakin's dead," He snarled, turning off his lightsaber.
You mocked his actions, tilting your head slightly, "If Vader was here, he would've killed me already, Anakin."
"I am Vader! My name is Vader," The man huffed, "I killed Anakin myself!"
You shook your head, "I will not call you something you're not, Anakin. I trained you to be honest... true to yourself and your emotions. I will do the same now."
Vader seemed to falter, his hands repeatedly clenched and unclenched. The soft whir of machinery filled the air as you stared at the man in front of you. You took a step forward slowly, your eyes filling with remorse as you used the force to search through Anakin.
"What'd they do to you, my sweet Ani?" You whispered, "Why didn't you come to me? I could've helped you."
"Nobody could've helped him!" Anakin raged, yelling in anger that seemed directed at himself, "He was lost! Gone! Anakin would've died regardless! I, Vader, would've killed him regardless!"
"No," You mumbled, looking around at the planet you'd been called to, "You wouldn't have died, Ani. It would've been like any other mission, any other obstacle before. I would've helped you get through it, like always."
"Anakin is dead!" Vader cried out, his voice breaking, a hint of desperation sneaking through, "He's gone."
Slowly, you stepped forward, watching the way Anakin's chest rose and fell with each mechanical breath, "No... you're not gone, Anakin. You're not gone, and like all the times before, I'll be waiting to help you."
Taking in a deep breath, you anxiously wrapped your arms around Anakin, noticing how much taller he was. His arms remained by his side in shock, trying to sort out his emotions. Anakin's mechanical breathing filled your ears as you squeezed the boy you raised. Tears fell down your cheeks as you held him to your chest, wishing you had been able to help him. Wishing you'd stayed by Anakin more during the Clone Wars. Wishing that you could turn back time and save the little boy you loved so much.
Squeezing tighter for a brief second, you whispered, "I love you, no matter what, Anakin."
Letting go of the man, you stepped back quickly, hoping that the powerful Sith Lord hadn't seen your tears. But you knew that you'd been too slow, and you knew Anakin knew you better than that. Watching as you walked back and disappeared into the trees you'd come from, Darth Vader wondered if he would ever see you again. He'd reached out to you for weeks, and he wondered now if you would ever reach out to him, remind him you were still alive, waiting for Anakin to return.
Boarding your shuttle, you let out a cry as you reached for your comm. There were so many regrets you held and so much you wished you would've done. But the past was not something you could dwell on. You could only hope that you'd been able to reach Anakin quickly enough.
"Rex?" You called weakly into the comm. You waited patiently for Rex's reply until you heard your name called worriedly, "I'm coming home."

A Lost Jedi | [Fem!Reader] | Star Wars
Wooow, I wrote a second part :D
Notes: I do not live in the US, I’ve never been to Disneyland and I have no clue about writing
Fandom: Star Wars
Warnings: Non-Canon Story, Minor Swearing, Unrealistic Depiction of California, Non-Canon Timeline from Star Wars
Summary: Y/N, a Jedi padawan is lost on an unknown planet with her droid R7-S9. Her ship is destroyed and she cannot reach her Master. With the help of a kind human civilian, she was able to find a location where a Jedi outpost could be and where she might just find other members of the order...
Word Count: 2711
Part I
Tumblr media
——–
“R7? You there?”
Her comlink stayed silent and Y/N cursed under her breath.
“Listen, buddy, I’m sorry for before. I mean we’re on an unknown planet without my Master and... I’m kinda scared, you know. So could you like, maybe... respond?”
Her fist clenched the comlink tighter as she ran around a corner. She pressed her back to the wall and checked the way she came from. No one seemed to have followed her. A relieved sigh left her lips and her shoulders relaxed slightly.
Beep. Woo-weep.
“Hey, my friend! Yes! Yes, of course!”, exclaimed the young Jedi and she couldn’t hide her relief.
“Where are you right now?”
The droid whistled through the comlink and she blinked.
“You... What? You found an outpost?!”
Some people turned heads in her direction and she reprimanded herself for being so loud. She had already cast some stir, it was better not to cause more.
“Are there any Jedi?”
While she had a whispered conversation with R7-S9 she saw some people with similar white hats checking out the crowd before her. Y/N already had her suspicions and decided to move. Better safe than sorry.
Wohoop Be-Weep Woo-Beep. Be-Beep!!
R7′s thrilled beeps and whistles made her laugh and the fact that he apparently found a Jedi made her heart leap. She would ask the Jedi for help, then contact her Master and the order and then finally, she would leave. Anakin and the 501′s were probably already waiting for her. She would apologize to the council and then go back into battle.
Her heart was pounding in anticipation as she followed the instructions of her astromech droid who was leading her to his location.
While Y/N was rushing to get to him, R7-S9 watched a brown-haired woman in grey clothes. According to his scanners, she was a Jedi. The lightsaber on her waist was enough evidence. R7 whistled. Y/N would probably cry from happiness once she got here. A sound similar to a snicker escaped the droid.
“Mom, look!”
The astromech droid turned his head and scanned the two approaching humans with his triangular eye. A female adult and a male child.
“That’s the droid from the parking lot!”
Small hands began to paw the droid and he shook in revolt. An angry chirp showed his disapproval and R7 extended his gripper arm with a shock module attached. He waved it in front of the child and whizzed some rather inappropriate insults.
Boop Be-Weep Wo-Beep Ba-Waap!!
“Woah, Honey! Maybe you shouldn’t get too close to it. It doesn’t seem to like it.”
The mother grabbed her child and stepped back to a safe distance. R7-S9 whistled in satisfaction and turned his head around only to register that the Jedi was gone.
Beep Boop!
“My, what do we have here?”
The astromech droid was startled and turned his head to the side only to notice the female Jedi right in front of him. It took him a moment but then he introduced himself and waved his gripper arm as a greeting.
“Are you lost, my little friend?”
R7-S9 chirped politely. He wasn’t lost, he was waiting for his ma- a voice interrupted his whistles.
“R7, there you are!”
Both he and the female Jedi turned to see Y/N arrive. The padawan was out of breath and the droid analyzed her pounding heartbeat.
“Man, some weird civilians started to follow me. We need to get to the Je- Wait a second. You!”
The brown-haired woman next to the astromech droid pointed a finger at herself.
“Me?”
-
Y/N just stared. The person before her also had a lightsaber. In fact, there seemed to be many people walking around with some sort of replica of the Jedi weapon. But none of them embraced the force. And with this woman, she felt the same. The force wasn’t engulfing her.
That shouldn’t actually worry the padawan since her Master was able to completely hide her Jedi nature as a Jedi shadow but she still had doubts.
The Jedi remembered the masked man who looked like a Sith. Now that she thought about it, she hadn’t felt the force when she stood before him. That person hadn’t made her feel like she would drop her lightsaber because of her trembling hands, he hadn’t shaken her balance with just his voice and the malice in it. Actually, that man had no trace of the fury, torment, and angst that surrounded a user of the dark side.
It was at this moment when Y/N realized. And it hit her like a brick.
She could not feel any Jedi or Sith on this planet because there were none.
-
“Adam, wait!”
The panting of his friend and assistant Marcus stopped the actor from following the woman. He turned around and looked at the stormtrooper mask that Marcus was wearing.
“What are you doing? We’re still filming the video.”
Ah.
He remembered the camera and promptly took a look around. Jace waved at him and he just nodded since he couldn’t do more with Kylo Ren’s helmet on.
One of the people that escorted him and guaranteed his safety while in the park, took off his helmet and stepped closer to him.
“That wasn’t planned, Mr. Driver. We’re sorry for the ruckus. Security will take care of that lady, don’t worry.”
Adam straightened his hood.
“I’d like to meet her again.”
He said these words without giving them too much thought and Marcus was obviously surprised.
“Why?”
“I...”
He couldn’t quite name what he felt when he saw the young woman but there was something weird going on. It was a gut feeling.
“Let’s follow her. I think it will be entertaining.”
The actor couldn’t see his assistant’s face under the stormtrooper helmet but he was sure that Marcus just gave him a devastating look. He turned to Mr. West who planned the filming of the video.
“It might be interesting. Could we change the route?”
While the producer talked with the team of Disneyland, Adam stared into the crowd. He remembered the moment when the woman had glared at him. Hatred and pain filled her eyes and he wondered where they found such a good actress. Then he remembered the words of the staff worker. That wasn't planned. Then who...?
-
It was a great day. She was finally here after weeks of begging and pleading. The grin that appeared on her lips in the morning was still there. She was smiling so hard, the corners of her mouth slightly hurt. Nothing could ruin this d-
"Leah, I told you to watch your brother!"
She sighed. Her eyes found Timothy standing not too far away with his back to the rest of the family.
"Tim, get back here, Mom's worried!", she called him but her brother didn't answer. He seemed spellbound by something.
But he wasn't the only one. Leah noticed how other park visitors started to crowd in front of them and they seemed to watch the same thing as her brother.
She approached Timothy and grabbed his shoulders.
"What are you looking at?"
"They're fighting, Le. Rey and that Girl!"
Her heart began to pound faster. Was this one of the special acts of Galaxy's Edge? She heard that some actors would randomly meet up and perform an Impro. Witnessing one would be an awesome memory. So she peered through the crowd and her eyes found the two subjects her brother was talking about. Her expression changed from excitement to shock.
"Tell me!"
She recognized the actress immediately who was playing Rey. She was sitting on the ground in a defensive position with her hand stretched out in front of her. The expression of the actress showed unease and Leah praised her for her good acting skills.
The other woman that Timothy mentioned was standing over Rey. Her appearance was foreign but clearly from Star Wars. Leah had never seen her before that's why she didn't recognize the character she was supposed to play. But from the lightsaber hilt on her hip, she was probably a Jedi.
"Where are the Jedi?!", shouted the female stranger and Rey cowered in fear.
"I-I don't know. Miss, you should calm down!"
Leah didn't even realize that she got out her phone and started recording.
"Why is everyone walking around with a lightsaber but no one is connected to the force?!"
Rey shook her head and made a sign with her hand. Neither the crowd nor the woman realized that It was a sign to call the security who protected the actress.
"The Fo-Force works in many ways. I don't know why you can't feel it, it's here. It surrounds us."
Leah's phone was on Rey and she almost squealed in excitement when she heard the words only a true Jedi would say. That's why she didn't expect the answer that was coming from the strange woman.
"True, it does surround me but your connection to the force is weak.”
Gasps erupted from the crowd and her brother shouted angrily: “Rey is the strongest Jedi!”
Leah gripped his shoulder and a shiver ran down her spine when the woman slightly turned her head to look at Timothy. It was just a glance but it was powerful and even though she was impressed by the skills of the actress, she couldn’t stop the thought that maybe, just maybe, the woman wasn’t an actress but something else.
“So you call yourself a Jedi, huh. Can you even use your lightsaber?”
The prop on Rey’s hip flew into her hand. Surprised chatter escaped the surrounding people and more phones surfaced and started recording the odd improv. The woman pressed the activation button but nothing happened. Obviously, it was just a prop.
The expression on the stranger’s face distorted. A sudden beep alarmed Leah and she turned the camera to focus on a droid that looked similar to R2-D2. My god, Disneyland is so good with props!
The robot beeped again and wheeled towards the two women and only then did the girl realize that it must be the companion of Rey’s counterpart.
And then a lot of things happened at the same time.
The crowd shuffled and split and five seemingly harmless park visitors appeared. But they had walkie talkies on their hip and wore all the same hat.
“Ma’am, please step away from Rey. You are disturbing the park and would like for you to come with us. If you do not comply we will have to use force.”
At the same time, the woman crushed the lightsaber prop in her hand. With sheer astonishment could the crowd watch how Rey’s lightsaber hilt turned to dust.
“What is this...? Where are the Jedi? M-Master...”
Leah probably was the only one who heard the woman. She was shocked that they apparent actress was, in fact, none and the security guards had shown up.
One of the guards took a step forward and wanted to grab the woman but he froze as soon as a yellow glow enlightened his face.
“Do not take a step closer!”
It was only for a second but she saw it. The distinctive shape of a lightsaber like in the movies. It was pointed at the security guard but the next second it was gone and the woman with it. What... what just happened?
-
Tears streamed down her face as she ran away from the crowd using the force to hide. Her Master’s technique had probably saved her life this time. Like many times before.
“Master...”
A big lump formed in her throat and she tried to regain her focus, her peace, but the Jedi and their codex seemed so far away for the moment. How could she stay calm when she had no way to contact her Master and leave this planet?! Emotions seemed tempting and it took all her concentration to stop the tears and at least try to keep some of her Jedi dignity.
She didn’t realize that she had left R7-S9 once again behind and that the astromech droid tried to follow her while scanning the environment for heat signatures furiously. And neither did she notice that she would collide with a stranger if she continued to walk tha-
A muffled oof and two strong arms that held her in place made her regain her focus.
Y/N looked up and she recognized the mask of the Sith impersonator. She understood that the Force veil had somehow lifted and she was now visible again.
“There you are.”
The words were void of any threat or danger and the padawan just stared. Her expression had turned to stone and the only things who showed how emotional she was ten seconds ago were the wet streams on her cheeks.
His appearance had lost any dangerous air when she had realized that there were no Jedi or Sith in the park.
“What do you want?”
Her voice was slightly nasal because of her crying but she ignored it.
“You seem lost.”
A raspy laugh escaped her lips. How right the man was.
“What if I am?”
-
Adam almost forgot that the young woman was still in his arms when he spotted the cameraman in the corner of his eye and he immediately let go of her and took a step back. Kylo Ren wouldn’t hold a woman like that. Maybe Rey but not a stranger.
The tear stains gave her a somber aura and he focused on her cold expression. He wanted to ask if she was okay but they were still filming and his persona would never ask that. He thought about his response for a second and then said:
“Join me.”
Her eyebrows narrowed for a second and she took a step back. A rational choice.
“For what? I know you’re not a Sith.”
The spark of anger he saw when they met the first time was gone. Her indifference towards him now struck him and spiked his interest.
“I am not a Sith, that is correct. The Sith are gone.”
She eyed him carefully. Her hand slipped to her hip.
“Then what are you?”
He wanted to stay in character and respond like Kylo Ren would but he saw Mr. West behind the woman with his thumbs up and he sighed.
With a smooth movement, he took off his helmet and revealed his face and identity.
“I’m Adam Driver.”
-----------
“Star Wars fans are going wild because of viral video filmed in Disneyland California. Many believe that Disneyland just teased a new movie and its main character. After The Rise of Skywalker, fans are thirsting for some new content. In this clip...”
Leah just watched the video in silence. It was the scene that she filmed earlier this day. It was from another angle so the person must have stood on the opposite side of the crowd.
“The woman has been seen several times in the park. She knocked down Kylo Ren and his troops and fled the scene.”
That information was new and Leah was surprised when they showed another video clip from that moment. It seemed like the actors were really pushed by something invisible.
“How do they do that?”, she asked loudly and pondered for a moment.
“Disney hasn’t made a statement yet but the first clip shows how security shows up so the possibility of the woman being an actress to announce a new movie is small.”
Leah stopped the video. If that weird woman wasn’t an actress how could she knock down the other actors? Did they prank each other?”
The wheels in her head were turning and she continued to watch some more videos about the strange event.
Youtube and Twitter were exploding with news about the woman after all.
.
.
.
“Adam Driver? You want me to join you on driving an Adam?”
The man that had just revealed his black hair and brown eyes stared at her in bewilderment.
“What?”
He seemed so shocked he didn’t continue.
“He’s an actor, Miss”, said one of the men with the white helmets behind him who tried to hold back his laughter. The Adam Driver turned around and gave him a look.
“An actor?”
Y/N didn’t quite understand.
“Adam Driver is his name.”
Oh.

Deleted Obi-Wan and Padmé scenes
Interesting information about Attack of the Clones (https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0121765/trivia):
“According to producer Rick McCallum, a scene was shot with Obi-Wan and Amidala swinging from one area to another, much like Luke and Leia in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), but the scene was cut.”
In case anyone is interested, the ANH scene can be watched here: https://youtu.be/VrbvWt5kerw
And it made me thinking.
It is often argued that Obi-Wan and Padmé have little screen time together with actual interaction happening between them. In fact, quite a number of their scenes were omitted during the post-production phase. Some are small, yet clearly discernible. For example the one where they meet after a decade of being apart.
The AOTC original script depicts it as such (http://nldslab.soe.ucsc.edu/charactercreator/film_corpus/film_20100519/all_imsdb_05_19_10/Star-Wars-Attack-of-the-Clones.html):
“OBI-WAN
It's a great pleasure to see you again,
M'Lady.
PADMÉ
It has been far too long Master
Kenobi. I'm so glad our paths
have crossed again... but I must
warn you that I think your
presence here is unnecessary.
OBI-WAN
I'm sure the Jedi Council have
their reasons.”
The lines indicated with bold letters are left out of the film.
But when one revisits the final scene (https://youtu.be/Wm593Vhs3bI), the editing is evident from 1:07 to 1:11. Padmé’s lips keep moving (“I’m so glad our paths have crossed again...”), but she is muted, and we transition right to the part where she turns her attention from Obi-Wan to “Annie”.
It is bad editing. Only if Obi-Wan’s mouth was not moving at 1:12... He is probably finishing the sentence with “...have their reasons” at the end, and hence why Padmé’s attention is focused on him as well as why there is a more serious expression on her face. Otherwise why would there be such a sudden change in her mood? Literally a moment ago she was beaming at Obi-Wan. But then she calls his presence “unnecessary” by using some unfortunate wording, and the face she makes at 1:12 is probably the reaction to Obi-Wan’s polite, yet valid comeback.
When it comes to ROTS, the loss is far more substantial, and not only by the omission of the infamous scene where they kiss and embrace each other (from 1:03 https://youtu.be/xd5qQRXhoLI), which bit, in fact, can be found in the original script (https://thescriptsavant.com/pdf/StarWarsEpisode3RevengeOfTheSith.pdf):
“187 EXT. CORUSCANT -PADME'S APARTMENT-VERANDA- AFTERNOON
The cockpit of the sleek yellow Galactic Speeder opens, and a HOODED FIGURE emerges and walks onto the veranda. An ALARM GOES OFF deep in the apartment. The FIGURE stops before a security curtain that protects the veranda. C-3PO enters the veranda and approaches the FIGURE.
C-3PO: Hello, might I help you . . . Oh, it's you, Master Kenobi. Come in, quickly.
The security curtain disappears, and the FIGURE lifts his hood. It is OBI-WAN. The alarm stops sounding.
OBI-WAN: Has Anakin been here . . . ?
C-3PO: Yes . . . right after the attack on the Jedi Temple. PADME comes down the stairs in a robe. THREEPIO leaves.
PADME: Master Kenobi . . .
She embraces Obi-Wan.
PADME: (continuing) Oh, Obi-Wan, thank goodness . . . you're alive.
OBI-WAN: The Republic has fallen. Padme . . . The Jedi Order is no more . . .
PADME: I know, it's hard to believe everything to which we've dedicated our lives is gone.
OBI-WAN: I believe we have been part of a plot hundreds of years in the making.
PADME: The Senate is still intact, there is some hope.
OBI-WAN: No. Padme . . . It's over . . . The Sith now rule the galaxy as they did before the Republic.
PADME: The Sith!?!
OBI-WAN: I'm here looking for Anakin . . . When was the last time you saw him?
PADME: Yesterday. [...]”
In the end we have this scene from “When was the last time you saw him?” in the final product. Sad.
And we have also been denied the scene where Obi-Wan and Padmé have a candid conversation in her apartment. It had been shot, then did not make the cut. You can have a glimpse at it here from 6:40 to 6:44: https://youtu.be/5ihqDETf324
In the script it looks like this (https://thescriptsavant.com/pdf/StarWarsEpisode3RevengeOfTheSith.pdf):
“94 INT. CORUSCANT-PADME'S APARTMENT-LIVING ROOM- EARLY MORNING
PADME and OBI-WAN sit on one of the couches. OBI-WAN: Has Anakin been to see you?
PADME: Several times . . . I was so happy to hear he was accepted on the Jedi Council.
OBI-WAN: I know ... he deserves it. He is impatient, strong willed, very opinionated, but truly gifted.
They laugh.
PADME: You're not just here to say hello. Something is wrong, isn't it?
OBI-WAN: You should be a Jedi, Padme.
PADME: You're not very good at hiding your feelings.
OBI-WAN: It's Anakin . . . He's becoming moody and detached. He's been put in a difficult position as the Chancellor's representative . . . but I think it's more than that. I was hoping he may have talked to you.
PADME: Why would he talk to me about his work?
OBI-WAN studies her.
OBI-WAN: Neither of you is very good at hiding your feelings either.
PADME: Don't give me that look.
OBI-WAN: I know how he feels about you.
PADME: (nervous) What did he say?
OBI-WAN: Nothing. He didn't have to.
PADME is a little flustered. She stands and Obi-Wan follows. She walks to the balcony.
PADME: I don't know what you're talking about.
OBI-WAN: I know you both too well. I can see you two are in love. Padme, I'm worried about him.
PADME looks down and doesn't answer.
OBI-WAN: (continuing) I fear your relationship has confused him. He's changed considerably since we returned . . .
They stand on the balcony and look off at the early morning city. OBI-WAN starts to leave. PADME stays looking off into the distant city.
OBI-WAN: (continuing) Padme, I'm not telling the Council about any of this. I ... I hope I didn't upset you. We're all friends, I care about both of you . . .
PADME: Thank you, Obi-Wan.
OBI-WAN: Please do what you can to help him.”
And has anybody noticed that the promotional stills seem to be out of sync with the visual seen in the film? Well, probably because some parts of the material already filmed were discarded.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Such as these ones (https://thescriptsavant.com/pdf/StarWarsEpisode3RevengeOfTheSith.pdf):
“228 INT. POLIS MASSA-MEDICAL CENTER-NIGHT
The TWINS are being delivered as BAIL ORGANA, YODA, ARTOO, and THREEPIO watch. OBI-WAN is in the operating theater with PADME. He takes her hand.
OBI-WAN: Don't give up, Padme.
PADME winces from the pain. The MEDICAL DROID is holding the BABY.
MEDICAL DROID: It's a boy.
PADME: Luke . . .
PADME can only offer up a faint smile. She struggles to touch the baby on the forehead.
MEDICAL DROID: ... and a girl.
PADME: . . . Leia.
R2-D2, THREEPIO and BAIL ORGANA watch from an adjoining space.”
“230 INT. POLIS MASSA-MEDICAL CENTER-NIGHT
OBI WAN leans over PADME and softly speaks to her.
OBI-WAN: You have twins, Padme. They need you . . . hang on.
PADME: I can't . . .
PADME winces again and takes OBI-WAN's hand. She is holding Anakin's japor snippet.
OBI-WAN: Save your energy.
PADME: Obi-Wan . . . there . . . is good in him. I know there is ... still . . .
A last gasp, and she dies. OBI-WAN studies the necklace.”
A smaller one, but might be of great significance if one thinks about either the Rebel Alliance subplot or the nature of Obi-Wan and Padmé’s relationship. (https://thescriptsavant.com/pdf/StarWarsEpisode3RevengeOfTheSith.pdf)
“195 EXT. MUSTAFAR-LANDING PLATFORM-DAY
[...]
PADME: I was so worried about you. Obi-Wan told me terrible things.
ANAKIN: What things?
PADME: He said you have turned to the dark side . . . that you killed younglings.
ANAKIN: Obi-Wan is trying to turn you against me.
PADME: He cares about us.
ANAKIN: Us??!
PADME: He knows . . . He wants to help you.
ANAKIN: Is Obi-Wan going to protect you? He can't ... he can't help you. He's not strong enough.
PADME: Anakin, all I want is your love.
ANAKIN: Love won't save you, Padme. Only my new powers can do that.”
The clip from the film can be watched here: https://youtu.be/J8QLKWvVK14
From 1:28 to 1:31 there is again an odd transition as a result of getting rid of the lines “Is Obi-Wan going to protect you? He can't ... he can't help you. He's not strong enough.” Anakin’s facial expression, of smugness and and condemnation, makes more sense in this context.
And from 3:24 to 3:28 there is another line missing:
“ANAKIN: Because of Obi-Wan?
PADME: Because of what you've done . . . what you plan to do. Stop, stop now. Come back! I love you.
ANAKIN: (seeing Obi-Wan) Liar!
PADME turns around and sees OBI-WAN standing in the doorway of the Naboo Cruiser.
PADME: No!
ANAKIN: You're with him. You've betrayed me! You brought him here to kill me!
PADME: NO! Anakin. I swear ... I ...
ANAKIN reaches out, and PADME grabs her throat as she starts to choke.
OBI-WAN: Let her go, Anakin.
ANAKIN: What have you and she been up to?
OBI-WAN: Let her go!”
So, there you go. I think there could have been plenty of opportunities for them to end up in more scenes together, but whatever. Even according to Natalie Portman “All of [Obi-Wan and Padmé’s] relationship developed off screen, so between Episode II and Episode III [they have] sort of become friends, to the point where he feels comfortable coming to [Padmé] and telling [her] things that are very personal.”
Also, do we know if Obi-Wan and Padmé met between TPM and AOTC? We know for sure that Padmé and Anakin didn’t, but then the film remains silent on Obi-Wan who is referred to as an “old friend” of Padmé’s by Palpatine (http://nldslab.soe.ucsc.edu/charactercreator/film_corpus/film_20100519/all_imsdb_05_19_10/Star-Wars-Attack-of-the-Clones.html)
“PALPATINE

We all have that one celebrity crush from when you were a child and for Lexi  that person was  Hayden Christensen, having grown up watching him be Anakin was amazing the work he does as that character was always something that she  admired and not to forget how gorgeous he was.  The one thing that we all have fantasies about is being able to meet our crush and be with them, what she didn’t know was that her biggest fantasies were just about to all come true.
Lexi has been looking forward to the Star Wars convention all summer long and it was finally here. She went  alone as her best friend hadn’t been able to make it.
Tumblr media
After getting to the convention center she had grabbed her poster and a few other things.  Lexi had a good feeling about today.
Tumblr media
“Woah! There’s so many cosplayers here!” She exclaimed to herself.
She walked around looking at all the booths. There were a few things she would go back to get later on in the day there had been a replica of Anakin’s saber that she had been looking to get for sometime and knew she would get it before the autograph signings.
New to being a  cosplayer she had created a gender-bent version of Anakin when he had been turning to the dark side.
The corset was a dark brown and the skirt was dark brown fading to black. She had the hood on and wore contact lenses to show the red eyes . Many other people came up to her asking for pictures. This made her more confident and when she got the replica lightsaber  she knew she was ready for when she met Hayden Christensen.   She’d gone to get in like pretty early but was still surprised to see how long the line was.
A few more people were in front of her before getting to him.
“Ahhh I can’t believe I’m about to meet Hayden!” She squeals. And a person behind her agrees. They chat to pass the time until she’s next.
“Next!” Said the person who was passing the fans in.
Lexi walked up to the table and was met with a very smiley Hayden and her heart skipped a beat getting to be this close to him.
“Wow! Can you give me a turn please? That cosplay is spectacular” he said to her completely blown away by how beautiful she looked in the female version of his character.
“Umm… s-sure” she blushed.
He could tell she was a bit flustered and he liked it. Not getting to see her eyes clearly he went around the table.
“Do you mind if I pull the hood back?”
“N-no not at all Hayden.”
Getting closer Lexi was able to see his blue-gray eyes she was completely entranced by them.
He’s a lot closer than she thought he’d be. Lexi felt the warmth of his breathing as he took off her hood.
“Whoa neat! Your wearing contact is similar to the one I wore.”
“Really? I looked everywhere for some that look the closest to them.”
“Well I gotta say you did some great work with this, mind if we get a picture?”
“I would love to Hayden”
He pulled out his phone and took a selfie and then had someone do a full body for him.
“Hey do you have an Instagram? I’d like to send these to you so you can have a copy.”
“Yeah umm here let me type it into your phone.”
He handed her his phone and he can’t seem to stop looking at her. Or that  when they met at  the convention they would hit it off and there was something that he found mesmerizing about Her.
“Here let me sign the light saber and anything else you have.”
“Thank you so much!”
“Hey can you tell me your name?”
“ Its Lexi”
“That's a cool name, to Lexi the greatest female  Anakin I’ve ever met”
“Thanks again this means a lot.”
“I’m glad I got to meet you Lexi” he goes and hugs her and kisses her cheek. Taking a step back he sees she’s blushing. He winks at her and walks back behind the booth.
Lexi has never been this flustered and quickly pulls the hood back on to hide her reddening cheeks.  What she hadn’t noticed was that he had written his number on the back of her poster.
Tumblr media
That very night Lexi and her friend Shannon shared screens to watch a movie and they talked about what happened at the convention.
“You're not gonna believe this but Hayden asked for my Instagram”
“No way! Omfg lucky you, now I really wish I'd been there to see your reaction’
“ Remember that cosplay said I was gonna do for the gender bent Anakin”
“You actually took it nice what did he say”
“He actually wrote a little message on my poster saying that  I was the best female Anakin he’s ever met. “
“Why did he want your Instagram for though?”
“He took a picture of me with him as a selfie and then he asked someone to take a full body picture both of us together and he wanted me to have a copy”
“Lucky girl I bet you were freaking out.”
“I couldn’t stop blushing he was really close to me like upfront he took off my hood so you can see my contacts”
“You sound so smitten right now Lexi gosh I bet all the others were jealous”
They’d  finished watching the movie and  had a long conversation. Lexi went back to working on some of her things for her blog when she got a little notification on her phone.  She picked up the phone to see what it was only to discover that it was a following request by none other  than Hayden Christensen. Lexi couldn’t believe she was seeing this, he really did follow her.  she was wondering whether she was dreaming or not so she clicked confirm.
Soon  a message popped up  saying “ Hey Lexi I hope you don’t mind me just here to send you the pictures. It was really great seeing you and in the cosplay. I hope I get to see you some other time”
She was  shocked he wanted to see her again but he’s a famous actor and thought  she’s a simple fan now he’s probably saying that just to be nice so she texted back “Thank you for the pictures I hope I see you at the next convention.”
After that Lexi put her phone down and turned it off going back to what she was working on. She wanted to talk to him  but she didn’t know if Hayden would actually respond so she said to herself, “I think I’ll just continue working on what I was writing, I doubt he actually wants to talk to me just another one of his million fans”
Hayden didn’t really know how he would start off his message so he sort of went out on a whim and sent that he  “Cannot believe he met her, she is such a gorgeous woman and the  cosplay was unbelievable there was just something about her that he couldn’t quite stop thinking about, in a way she was very unique” and there was just this little feeling he had what he needed to see her again, although his work schedule may not allow it this soon he knew he’d find a way to see her.
Few months pass and nothing happened he didn’t text her because of filming but that maybe she would text him first to be honest he was very nervous he didn’t know exactly how he would start off a conversation with her he really wanted to get to know her but he felt that through text won’t  be the same he wanted to see her talk about herself and see how she reacted and how she expresses herself.
Lexi was a little bummed out that she never heard back from him after the last thing he texted her. She hadn’t replied because she just didn’t know how to reply. After a while she really believed that just maybe he won’t want to talk to her but seeing as she hasn't given  a single reply she went back to her  life being a blogger, go to school doing her thing until she her phone dinged “Lexi I wanted to know if you were free sometime tonight I’d like to meet up.” It said but quickly he added “if that’s OK with you”
She was thrilled and scared because Hayden is one of her favorite actors ever and to just simply be texting him was a dream come true. Not wanting to leave him hanging  again she replied “I’m free at 7 tonight. Where do you want to meet?”
“Great I’ll see you then ;)”
“Wait how will we meet up, I live  in  Tennessee?”
“Don’t you worry about that I’ll have everything ready.”
A little confused she went along with it. She had faith in him and whatever it was he was planning. Lexi was beyond thrilled and nervous because she was gonna meet up with Hayden Christensen! Her forever actor crush.
Even though she still had 3 hours until they meet up she began planning what she would wear. She wanted something casual but also cute. So she went for one of her go to outfits. Having her current hair color  be pink, blue and purple she just washed  and let it air dry in  it’s cascade. As for her makeup she kept it simple with some blush, mascara and some matte lipstick.
As she finished getting ready she was screen sharing with her friend and co-writing partner so as not to fangirl so much in front of him. They were watching Awake a movie he happens to be in, her friend hasn't seen it so Lexi showed it to her while commenting throughout the movie Lexi kept her phone nearby so that she could see if she got a text. About halfway through the movie she finally got a text saying that she should come out that there’s a car waiting for her. She was getting excited again and would have to ask him how he knew where she lived.
“Omfg! I just got a text from him saying there’s a car waiting for me!”
“Good luck have fun and tell me all about it!” Shannon told her.
Lexi stepped out of her house and indeed there was a car parked waiting for her. The moment she walked down  the stairs she was greeted by a  chauffeur. He went around and got the door for her and helped her in and she thanked the man.  The ride  had a bit of a calming silence which had been a big help since Lexi was still very nervous about what the night would bring.
The car had stopped at a new food place that had been opened a few days prior to you going to the convention. The chauffeur got out of the car and opened your door and soon had taken you to the entrance where Lexi was met with Hayden holding some flowers.
“Hey Lexi I hope you liked these I didn’t know if you had a favorite flower so I got a variety of them.”
“Thank you Hayden they look beautiful.”
“They look as beautiful as you do tonight.”
He made her blush with that compliment. “So Hayden, I was wondering how did you ever figure out where I live?”
“Well I actually saw some of the things you posted on Instagram and had some help figuring out where in Tennessee you lived” he said sheepishly. “Don’t tell your friend but she was  a big help too.” he smiled
Lexi was really at a loss of words because he went to all this trouble just to want to hang out with her.  The night was spent getting to know each other as if they’ve been friends for years. Throughout the night he  just couldn’t stop smiling at the way that Lexi spoke about her writing and the things she does.  It had been over 4 hours since they were at the restaurant, not wanting the night to end just yet Lexi got bold enough to ask  where he’s planning to stay,
There’s a little hotel not far from here that I was planning to get a room at.”
“Well after such a great time tonight I wanted to invite you to my home I have a spare bedroom there that you could use,” she shyly said. “The least I can do is make your stay here in Tennessee relaxing.”
“Thank you, that’s very kind of you, I was actually hoping to get a chance to do some sight seeing here, I was hoping you could show me around?”
“I would love to do that, how about we head home for now and we can make a list of what you might want to see?”
“Sure, lead the way darling” he moved to the side so that she could get back to the car. He put his hand on her lower back as they walked out of the restaurant.
Once they arrived at her house she led him to the guest room that was right next to hers and left him alone so that he could get set up and comfy. While that happened she changed into a big shirt and some shorts that she normally wore around the house. Meanwhile in the other room Hayden had gotten settled and changed from his outfit into a plain t-shirt and some sweatpants. After that he walked to what he assumed was the living room and looked around, there were many pictures of Lexi with her friends and family.
He was admiring her book collection when she walked in and asked, “Is there anything I can get for you?”
“No, I'm fine thanks for asking” he headed for the couch and sat down.
Lexi couldn’t help but watch him walk over to the couch. He looked so good in sweatpants. She stifled a groan at how turned on she was getting by the way he was dressed or how relaxed he looked in her home.
“I noticed you were looking at my book collection anything in there that caught your attention?”
“Yeah there were a few that I might take a look at later on if you don’t mind”
“Not at all, you’re welcome to borrow whichever you find most interesting.”
“That’s very kind of you Lexi, for tonight and everything”
“It’s no problem at all, but I should be thanking you for such an amazing night”
"You don’t mind if I open this window for a quick smoke do you?” he seemed a little nervous about asking.
"Go right ahead, make yourself at home" she waved at him. feeling less nervous now that they seem comfortable around each other.
He walked over to the window seat and opened the one window, there was a nice breeze out and he pulled out a cigarette from his pocket and his lighter, but what he doesn’t know is that Lexi loves seeing him smoke  in movies and knowing that he actually smokes is  even more nerve wracking. He notices that she’s started to rub her thighs together and figures out that she likes his little bad habit and he’s enjoying that it’s the little things that he does can easily get her turned on. She doesn't even know that he actually heard her moan when he walked over to the couch.
he turned back over to the window to blow the smoke out. he walked back to the couch where Lexi was now sitting at and sat close by her, being this close to her he could see the shade of brown that her eyes were a mix between milk and  dark chocolate and even though they've known each other for a few hours he has this urge to pin her to the couch and mark her  so everyone knows who she belongs to. He knew however he would have to wait and hope that he can show her that he wants to be a part of her life. He wasn't really sure if she would feel the same about him the way he feels about her.
He rubbed his hand on his chin and felt the small beard he was growing he would need to shave soon or else it would begin to bother him, plus the film he was going to be a part of required he have a clean shaven face. Lexi however thought he looked good with the beard, it was a nice change to always seeing him have a baby face on screen or at conventions.
“So what brought you to this quiet little town?” he started asking hoping to get to know her more.
“My family lived here for most of my childhood and I’ve never really considered leaving this place” she played with her hair and looks up “don’t get me wrong I do wish I could travel more but there’s ever really been a chance to do that.”
“Sounds like this place is your little slice of heaven, I’d be lucky if I had a place like that myself.” He places his arm behind her and his fingertips lightly brush her shoulders
“If you could go to one place in the world where and why?”
She shivered feeling his fingers ghost over her shoulder. “If I could go somewhere I think it would be Venice because I love the culture and the food too,” she blushed. “I think it would be an amazing place.”
This gave him an idea as to where he could take her next time, he hoped there would be  more things he’ll be able to plan with her or for her.
“So tell me Mr. Celebrity, what’s it really like?” Lexi teased him. “Is it really like they say?”
“And what exactly do they say?”
“That's mostly paparazzi, glitz and glam?” she cocked her head.
“Well for the most part it can be but I'm not really one for that I like to keep my life as simple as possible.” he smiles at her. He can’t help but feel so relaxed around her. “That’s why you hardly see anything about me on tv”
“Well if anything the moments you are on tv are the best.” she blushes.
The rest of the time was spent talking about anything and everything. There were moments of silence but they weren’t awkward. She felt as if she’d already gotten to know him so much more than she’d ever expect and he felt the same way there was so much they both still wanted to know about each other but this wasn't the time for that. Later on they’d both come to find that they equally had the same interests sexually. They talked for hours on end that night till Lexi realized that it was 3 am and they still planned on going out to do some sightseeing.
It had been hard for Lexi to fall asleep knowing she had her childhood crush sleeping in her guest room let alone knowing she’d be spending the whole day with him seeing all over the place she called home.  Sleep finally found her and all she could dream about was Hayden sitting at the window smoking looking so gorgeous under the light of the moon. She woke up pretty early and headed out for a quick jog hoping that would bring her some energy for the day.
Hayden had woken up a little after she had gone on her run so he had taken his time trying to figure out what they could do. He laid in bed for a bit searching for things nearby hoping he might get to see some exciting stuff or even get to see her favorite places here. Once he had an idea on what to do he tossed his shirt on the bed and grabbed some fresh clothes and headed to the bathroom and turned on the shower letting it steam up for a bit. Neither of them had realized that the other was in the apartment.
“Hmm looks like he might still be sleeping, Oh I hope I didn’t keep him up too late” she said to herself as she headed to the kitchen to drink some water, Meanwhile Hayden was getting his things in order to shower. Unaware of him being in the bathroom she went to her room to grab some fresh clothes for the day and headed for the bathroom the door was pretty thick so she couldn't hear the water running. She walked in and was surprised when she bumped right into a very much naked Hayden.

Top ten fallen heroes
These are not reformed villains, though they may go into that role after, or at least an anti-hero, but most of these I prefer as villains.
10. Ozymandias (Watchmen). While you don’t see him do his heroics much in the comics, because he is pseudo-retired at this point, you do know what he did in the past to some extent and you know he’s still trying to make the world a better place. (spoilers for the comic that you really should read because there is a reason why it is considered a masterpiece) Ozymandias sacrifices his own morality to try and stop the world from destroying itself, its an awful thing that he does and thinks its for the greater good, and he clearly feels the weight of what he’s done but still stands by it; which is what makes him a fallen hero.
Tumblr media
9. Griffith (Berserk). Now Griffith has many heroic qualities, but he always seemed to have a bit of a dark and selfish nature; but that being said his betrayal still really hurt both the audience and the few surviving main characters; and what he did was so profoundly selfish and evil that he becomes a fantastic villain.
Tumblr media
8. Light Yagami (Death Note). Light does his fall really hard and really fast, but it takes a bit before he becomes completely evil. His mental chess game with L is one of my favorite story arcs in all of fiction, and it all started because this seemingly innocent boy found a notebook. There are definitely times when you are rooting for him even though you know you shouldn’t be, and I think that makes for some of the best villains. I was going to put Walter White on here, but I feel like Walt was always just a likable villain, you just didn’t know he was an egotistical dick until much later in the show.
Tumblr media
7.Artorias the Abysswalker (Dark Souls). Artorias in any other game would probably be a hero you follow the footsteps of, or just play as; but in Dark Souls you slowly piece together the tragic story of a hero that tried as hard and as long as he could to win an unwinnable fight and in the end succumbed to the very abyss that he was fighting. Having to fight his best friend and protector of his grave is just heart breaking, and fighting him in the DLC was almost as bad. He’s not a character that I prefer as a villain, but he is a fun boss.
Tumblr media
6. Angelus (Buffy/Angel). Now Angel is my favorite main character in my all time favorite show, but Angelus is a lot of fun to watch. He just loves being evil so much, he relishes it and is almost cartoonish at time with how fucked up he can be; but he has done far too much damage to the main characters of both Buffy and Angel to be taken lightly (I mean most villains in the show ether respect or fear him, and that’s pretty impressive when he’s been gone for hundreds of years). Having a main character who can go so completely evil if pushed is such a fun dynamic and when he gets to come out and play for real in season 4 it is a hell of a show. He’s such a good villain because he gets to sit and watch in agony watching Angel and friends do good all the time, but the whole time he sees how to push buttons and manipulate people so that when he gets free he can get what he needs out of them.
Tumblr media
5. Jason Todd/Red Hood (DC comics). Jason was not a well liked character when he first appeared, or even after Crisis on Infinite Earths, but his death was still tragic and made people really question how good of an idea having a teenage sidekick really was. It was only after he came back to life and starting messing with Batman that I really liked him. Most of the villains on this list have questionable at best motivations, but if I was Jason and Batman didn’t kill Joker to avenge me, I’d be pretty pissed off to. He’s a great foil for Batman because he knows him so well, knows how to hurt him, and is pissed enough to really hurt him. He did eventually become an anti-hero and sort of DC’s answer to the Punisher (though they already had Huntress for that) but I like him more as a villain than I do an anti-hero (though he can be written well when he’s not in New 52). I was torn between him and Winter Soldier, but I think Bucky’s story isn’t quite as tragic because of the amount of time that had passed between him dying and him showing back up, and I like him more as a hero; both in the comics and in the MCU.
Tumblr media
4. Two-Face (DC comics). From this entry and the last one you might think I’m a Batman fanboy, but I’m not; he just has damn good villains. There are many Spider-Man villains that were good guys to some extent before something terrible turned them into a villain, but Harvey Dent has the edge for me because of how much good he was trying to do before he became a villain. In his many incarnations you can always see a dark side to him before he falls, but seeing him actually become evil is still painful to watch. He is a fantastic villain because he’s so twisted and evil, but there is still a chance for him to be redeemed. He’s a constant reminder to Batman of his failure to help his friend, and he also has a very unique visual style to him that a lot of different creators have had a lot of fun playing with.
Tumblr media
3. Arthas Menethil (Warcraft series). Arthas had your classic heroic backstory; young, handsome, talented prince who cared about his people would stop at nothing to protect them. He was brave and a very powerful paladin, but his arrogance would prove to be his undoing. He started down a path of doing worse and worse things to try and accomplish his goals, and eventually became fully corrupted once he got Frostmorne. Once he got his armor and became the Lich King, he became one of the most powerful villains in all of Warcraft, and the sword and armor he had made him very cool (no pun intended). His role as antagonist for a whole World of Warcraft expansion just shows how powerful he was, and being able to piss off pretty much everyone shows how good a villain he was.
Tumblr media
2. Anakin Skywalker (Star Wars). Now the prequels are very flawed films, but I don’t find much fault in Anakin’s characterization throughout them. He starts off just a sweet and innocent child longing for adventure, but the next time we see him he’s a cocky teenager with enough power to back up his attitude. He’s very high on this list because while he did do some evil things before his actual turn to the dark side, he was manipulated into most or all of them; that doesn’t excuse him completely because in the end he still had agency over his choices, even if it wasn’t full agency. Some people say that his turn was too quick, but I think what happened is after he made that split second decision to protect Palpatine, he realized he was pretty much stuck with what he did. He did what he did because he was naive, manipulated, and wanted to save his wife and child. I’m also a sucker for a Greek tragedy and a self-fulfilling prophecy. Everything he did after the death of his wife and supposed death of his child was because of his rage and sadness at what he had lost, and clinging to what little he had left. He’s one of the best villains in all of fiction, and is so incredibly visually striking that even if you’ve never seen a Star Wars film, you know just by looking at him who he is.
Tumblr media
1. Superman (Injustice games/comic). Who could possibly be a more tragic fallen hero than the symbol of hope and peace losing all hope and becoming a fascist, murdering dictator. Superman needs no introduction, but the Joker tricking him into murdering his wife and unborn child, and blowing up Metropolis sure is a different take on the character. Its not entirely surprising that something so tragic could make the Man of Tomorrow loose what made him a hero. As you read the comics you see that he started off just wanting to kill supervillains, and slowly he had to compromise more and more to get what he wanted. He never completely lost his morality, just slowly changed and warped his view on it until he became so scared of losing what he had left that he became a dictator.

Prompt: Reader has a shitty relationship with reality. Weird crap happens to them and things that shouldn’t happen do. Sometimes they will go missing out of the blue do it it and just show up a couple weeks later. They usually carry around a recorder with them so they can show people they aren’t insane but they forget it and go missing for a bit before coming back. Eddie/Venom FREAK the fuck out.
This is my second attempt at this, as tumblr deleted the first draft I wrote! Grr. Still, it was fun to write! Kinda more Eddie and less Venom.
Your life was weird. Which was to say, you and reality had apparently met and broken up with no chance at reconciliation.
It had started when you were eight. Now, keep in mind, you’d been born in the eighties, so it was high weirdness to suddenly be in possession of a computer the size of your hand.
You’d been playing when something had just popped out of nowhere, bouncing off your head before clattering to the ground. A little dazed, you’d picked it up and discovered that it was something called an iPhone 8. You’d played with it for hours before it had simply vanished out of your hands, leaving an odd chill and a very baffled you behind.
Things had only gotten more complicated from there.
More things appeared and vanished around you, sometimes little things, like keys or books, sometimes big things, like your parent’s minivan.
When you were twelve, you’d vanished from school. Literally. Your parents had gone insane. Search parties were sent out, Amber Alert’s announced, police canvased the entire neighbourhood. When you’d reappeared a week later, your parents had ignored your tale of meeting Robin Hood and grounded you for running away and making up stories.
Your childhood and adolescence was peppered with disappearances, your parents believing that you were a liar and a runaway, and you had suffered through numerous trips to various hospitals because of the ‘tales’ you told.
You’d started bringing a tape recorder with you to film your adventures when you were fourteen. Over time, you upgraded to camcorder, then your smartphone, and finally a hidden camera that you could bring wherever you ended up. You had images and videos saved that surpassed any CG movie out there.
It was odd, you realized, that when you ‘popped’ into new worlds, that no one there thought twice of your sudden appearance. You just blended in with whatever timeline or universe you’d slid into, as if you were supposed to be there in the first place. You’d seen dinosaurs, broke bread with dragon-slayers, saved dragons from dragon-slayers, visited far off worlds and even alternate universes just a smidgen different from your own.
It continued on until you were old enough to move out. Sure, you still vanished from time to time, visiting odd and strange places, but it was fun for you. New experiences and new adventures. The hell with your doubting parents. This was your life and you embraced it.
You’d been chased by a feathered T-Rex, nearly gotten run over by a horse drawn carriage that belonged to Sherlock Holmes - the older one not the hot one - shared mead with Hobbits, gunned down zombies, met aliens - not the probing kind - gotten bitten by a chupacabra, encountered a rather irritated Dalek that had also popped out of his universe, hell, you’d even met Captian Picard of the USS Enterprise!
Things became more complicated when you started dating. You’d originally sworn off dating because of the trouble presented when you slipped out of your universe, but Eddie Brock had been sweet and handsome and with a sparkling wit and down to earth charm that had made turning him down impossible.
You imagined he’d expected you to freak out when, a month into dating, he’d confided in you that he was bonded to an alien symbiote and that he moonlighted as Venom most nights.
You’d seen a lot of weird shit by then, so you’d merely shrugged, shaken Venom’s hand and asked him what he preferred white or dark chocolate cake.
When Eddie had moved in, things got decidedly complicated. You managed to explain your disappearances by saying it was work related, that you had to run off at any time to catch a plane or a train. Thanks to being a veteran of falling out of your dimension into another, you could usually ‘feel’ a slip before it happened.
He’d accepted it with grace - after all, he was Venom. He thought he knew strange.
You were waffling over whether to tell him what was really going on. Had practiced the conversation. Were even willing to let him see what was in the mystically locked chest at the foot of your bed.
It was filled with keepsakes from your journeys: A sword made of enchanted glass from Skyrim, a computer pad you’d stolen from the Enterprise, bits of shells from a dinosaur egg, the Hope Diamond, a Venom comic-book - that was going to take some explanation - an ‘Arum’ from the Elite home world from the Halo universe, a pile of gems and coins from Smaug himself - you’d popped out of that world before getting charbroiled - a feather as long as your arm from a Roc, a working phaser, three seashells, several sets of armor and ancient clothing, a Lightsaber you’d stolen from one baffled Anakin Skywalker before he’d gone batty, and an emerald the size of your fist - you hoped Sonic had made due without it.
You’d actually been trying to work up the nerve to talk to Eddie after a date, on the walk home, when you’d literally popped out of existence.
Shit.
You reappeared in the middle of a fight between a rag tag group of people and something called a ‘dracolich’. Which was a fancy word for ‘skeleton dragon’.
By then, you were rather used to appearing in the middle of a crisis, so you’d taken up a sword and joined the fight. By the time the undead dragon was properly dead - thanks to one of the group that had turned out to be a necromancer - you’d pretty much ingratiated yourself to the group, and no one questioned where you’d appeared from.
You spent a month with them, fulfilling quests, getting drunk at taverns, and being rewarded by kings and peasants both. You had enough gold coins to pay for your apartment for the next fifty years. Your new friends, the necromancer, a draconian, an archer and a sorceress made you the honorary ‘knight’ of the group, even chipping in to buy you a set of armor tailored to you.
It was while your friends were at a brothel - you may have been in a different universe but you did have a boyfriend back home, hence the ‘no brothel’ rule for you - that things went sideways again. You popped, appearing in the middle of a conference at the UN where there were lizards instead of people, waved, then popped again, reappearing in San Francisco.
This wouldn’t have been such a bad thing had you not been decked out in full armor, armed with numerous knives and a broadsword. The fact that you’d appeared in the middle of a wedding just made things more complicated.
You managed to weave a spiel about trying out your ‘costume’ for the next Comic Con before making a run for it.
Hoping that Eddie was still around somewhere, you trudged home, incurring various stunned looks as you went. Ignored them with long practice, even when you got on the elevator and had to ride to the top floor next to a women with two children.
Lacking a key, you merely kicked your front door in, freezing in the doorway when you spotted a very confused Eddie on your couch. He was obviously in the middle of working on a new article - papers and notebooks were scattered around him haphazardly.
“Um…. hi?” You even wiggled your fingers at him in a little wave, armor glinting in the light from the windows.
Everything went flying - laptop included, ouch - when he realized who you were. He crossed the apartment in a run before wrapping you up in a crushing embrace.
“You’re alive!”
The stark relief in his voice made you wither a little, and you lamely stayed silent, blinking up at him when he pushed you back and held you at arms length.
“Where have you been?! We searched the entire City for you! Twice! Thought you’d been kidnapped or worse–”
You rose a hand to place your fingers against his mouth when his voice cracked, the tears in his eyes making a pit open up in your stomach. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I should have told you. This just…. happens, sometimes. Well, a lot of the time. I can’t control it. Usually I can feel it before it happens, but this time I didn’t have any warning and–”
“This has happened before?”
You winced a little and pulled away, walking past him and into the apartment. Waited until he’d closed the door before speaking again. “Weird things have been happening to me since I was eight. Things would pop in and out of existence around me, things that we’re from my time or our world. They’d always vanish again eventually…. When I was twelve I vanished for a week, met Robin Hood, he taught me how to shoot a bow–”
The look of disbelief on Eddie’s face made you growl. “See that? That right there. That’s why I don’t tell people. My parents had me admitted to psych wards because I trusted them. You know what electro-shock therapy is? It ain’t fun! But this shit happens to me, all the time. And you, Venom, are not the poster child for normality, so quit lookin’ at me like that!”
He winced at bit at that, then sighed and walked over to you. “Okay. Okay, we’re sorry, this just sounds….”
“Insane. I’m aware. I’m also aware that since aliens exist and that there are mutants running around and a guy in New York called ‘Spider-Man’, that this isn’t the weirdest thing in this reality.”
“Point.”
“Damn right ‘point’,” you muttered angrily, huffing as you headed for your bedroom. “There’s also the fact that I’m not stupid enough to say these things without some goddamn proof. So, c’mere.”
Grumbling a little, you stomped over to the locked chest at the foot of your bed, shoving clothes off of it before raising your thumb to your mouth and biting into the meat of it. Eddie made a noise of complaint at the sight, and you rolled your eyes at him.
“Needs blood given without duress to open,” you explained as you pressed your thumb to the lock, grinning at his look of shock when the combination lock spun crazily, five numbers clicking into place before the three heavy latches popped open. “Got this thing from a wizard when I turned twenty. Best security I ever invested in.”
The flabbergasted look on Eddie’s face was almost worth it when you started pulling things out and laying them on the bed, explaining what each and every one of them were and where you’d gotten them from. His eyes got bigger and bigger with every keepsake you pulled out, right up until you pulled out the Venom comic and thrust it into his face.
“Bet you were wondering why I was so chill when you told me about the symbiote, huh? I already knew about it.”
“This can’t be real,” left him in a whisper as he took the comic and flipped through it. The symbiote that was masquerading as his shirt visibly undulated, a tendril extending to poke at the comic, as if to make sure it wasn’t a hallucination.
“Oh, it is real buster. There’s a reality where practically every weird ass thing in this world is just a bunch of stories. Spider-Man, Magneto, Wolverine, fuck, the entire X-Men School - comic-books. Every single one. There’s a universe where Batman is real, another where the galaxy nearly got it’s metaphorical balls handed to it by monstrosities called ‘Reapers’, another where crab-people try to overthrow governments. Trust me, I have seen some weird shit.“
“You never told anyone?”
“The people I did tell had me committed,” you reminded him. “I learned to keep this kinda shit to myself. I wanted to tell you. I did. But…. Well, the amount of people who have flipped out on me and left is kinda a hundred percent. I have videos, and they still didn’t believe me.”
Eddie shook his head a little, still looking stunned. “We believe you. It’s impossible not to. We’re holding the story of our own history in our hands.”
“Sorry about that. Kinda had to go for the shock value.” You paused, hesitant. “You really believe me?”
The wary hope in your voice made him walk over to you and wrap you up in a hug, leaning his forehead against yours. “You’re very convincing.”
“And the symbiote?”
“Glad to have our morsel back.” Eddie blinked a little, then cleared his throat as the symbiote released control of his voice. “We’re relieved you’re alright. We mourned you. We’ve spent the past month trying to find you.”
“This’ll happen again,” you warned him softly. “I can’t control it. I wish I could, but I can’t. And I don’t have control about how long I stay away. Could be a week, could be a month….”
“But you’ll come back? Eventually?”
“Always do.”
“Promise to come home to us?”
You smiled. “Hun, if you can put up with the insanity that is my life, you’re practically stuck with me.”
“Good,” he murmured before kissing you, and you shivered happily as you kissed him back. “Now, show us how that Lightsaber works.”

Im at work and just had a thought but no one talks Star wars so ill ask you :) when Vader says to Palps in rotl he says MY son is with them. Why do you think palpatine allowed this so to speak, instead of going into the the whole anakin is dead spiel? I always thiught it was odd
Good question! I think the number of interpretations here is probably endless – but will try and put down a few possibilities.
How one interprets the “my son” line depends perhaps most on how one interprets the conversation Vader has with Palpatine in ESB, where we see them speaking about Luke for the first time. This conversation exists in two versions: one produced when there was a definite interest in keeping the “I am your father” reveal a surprise until the end of the film, and the Ian McDiarmid one from the Special Edition, produced at a time when that cat was well out of its bag. I’ve put both versions here together, crossing out what was eliminated for the Special Edition and bolding the new formulations.
VADER: What is thy bidding, my Master?
EMPEROR: There is a great disturbance in the Force.
VADER: I have felt it.
EMPEROR: We have a new enemy, Luke Skywalker. The young rebel who destroyed the Death Star. I have no doubt this boy is the offspring of Anakin Skywalker.
VADER: Yes, my Master. How is that possible?
EMPEROR: Search your feelings, Lord Vader; you will know it to be true. He could destroy us.
VADER: He is just a boy. Obi-Wan can no longer help him.
EMPEROR: The Force is strong with him. The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi.
VADER: If he could be turned he would become a powerful ally.
EMPEROR: Yes. Yes. He would be a great asset. Can it be done?
VADER: He will join us or die, Master.
In the original conversation, the conversation that most importantly was the one in place when RotJ was filmed, the Emperor names Luke. He has a name for the “new enemy”. He also notes that Luke is the “son of Skywalker”. It’s unclear whether he knows that Vader has been pursuing Luke all this time - in the original 1976 novelization, the Emperor was cloistered away from the world, essentially a puppet - or whether he is telling Vader here that he has caught onto his treacherous schemes. He could also just be saying that the disturbance he felt was so terrifying, it has made Luke’s capture or death imperative. As the Emperor insists Luke is a threat, Vader responds with mollifying, calm suggestions (“He is just a boy” line and “If he could be turned”). Vader’s reference to Obi-Wan could even suggest that they have spoken about Luke before.
But the salient point here is that the Emperor calls Luke the “son of Skywalker” Why does the Emperor say “son of Skywalker” instead of “your son”? While Watsonian readings are certainly possible, I read this as a dramatic necessity. The film hinges on its twist ending. “Son of Skywalker” is vague and formal and foreboding and above all, it doesn’t give the game away mid-film. Can you imagine the impact of “I am your father” if the Emperor had already casually revealed Luke’s parentage to the audience in a random conference call?
For Watsonian readings, of course, the newer version is more relevant. Notably, this version doesn’t include Luke’s name. This leaves unclear how the Emperor came to zero in on “the young rebel” - whether he saw him in a vision, or has been observing Vader long enough to put two and two together, or something else. It also allows one to read him as pretending surprise (along the lines of: I thought your spawn was dead too, never knew of him before the Force showed him to me, don’t even know his name). Vader also pretends to have never heard of Luke Skywalker before. Otherwise, the dialogue remains unchanged, which could be attributed to laziness, a desire to keep the twist ending intact for those who see the film for a first time and have not yet watched the PT, or some sort of manipulative game in which the Emperor insists that Anakin and Vader must be regarded as two separate people, etc.
Something I think one has to consider in this context is how these films were made. A version of this conversation was already in the original draft of the film, when Vader and Anakin were still in fact distinct people (Anakin appears to Luke as a Force ghost). Basically, Vader reaches out into the Force while in his castle full of gargoyles and encounters Luke, creating a disturbance that the Emperor apparently also feels. Instead of the conversation we eventually got in the film, the Emperor appears “draped and hooded in cloth-of-gold, so that we cannot see his face” but so that we nonetheless understand him to be powerful. Vader bows before the image and has the following conversation:
Tumblr media
Vader’s breathing reveals his “fear of the Emperor”. He also angrily knocks over a golden bowl, frightening the gargoyles. Most interestingly, “Skywalker” is a known factor to both of them. Vader also makes no attempt to change the Emperor’s mind; he isn't exactly given the opportunity. My point being that a lot of things were in flux when the films were made, and that the back and forth between them becomes less and less about external threats than mind games with each iteration.
As for RotJ – the fact that Vader refers to Luke as “my son”, placing emphasis on these words, is something that I think opens itself up for a great deal of interpretation, especially since Palpatine immediately questions him on whether his “feelings are clear” on the matter. But I don’t myself read that exchange as evidence that Palpatine insists on a sharp divide between Vader and Anakin, that he thinks them two different people. RotJ was of course filmed before the PT, so there are inconsistencies. But the PT doesn’t suggest this interpretation to me either. I’m not sure such petty external policing would fit with Palpatine’s self-presentation as someone beyond conventional distinctions ( “Good is a point of view, Anakin”, “Keep your mind clear of assumptions. The fear of losing power is a weakness of both the Jedi and the Sith”, etc. ) Certainly Palpatine insists on using the Sith name he has given Vader, and puts Vader in the suit, and in the newer comics, encourages him to identify with that trapping. Certainly Palpatine is manipulative and perverse. And certainly Vader has no interest in being referred to as Anakin.
But Darth Vader exists because he was willing to sell his soul to save his wife (and possibly also his unborn child). Whether you consider the newer comics and novels (Lords of the Sith) canon or not, they are evidence for a reading where Palpatine exerts control over Vader not least by constantly goading him into confronting his past choices. Each time Palpatine does this - sending Vader to Mustafar, where he was not only defeated but also killed Padmé, to build his Sith lightsaber, giving him Padmé’s ship, ordering him to kidnap the babies of former Jedi, forcing Vader to admit he was a traitor - Vader reaffirms those choices, choosing the Dark, refusing alternatives. Palpatine also approves of Vader’s desires to “find” (resurrect?) Padmé on Mustafar, or at least he claims to do so on the grounds that Vader will learn much and become more powerful in the process.
I’ve gone on so long already, I should stop rambling! Last thing - I do think Vader’s words in RotJ are extraordinary, of a different character from the EU examples above, not least because he’s speaking of the future rather than a dead past, claiming a future instead of remaining in his little loop. But the difference seems to me a subtle one, if that makes sense? He’s changed his drives, in Westworld-speak: the form and direction of his purpose has changed, giving new meaning to something Palpatine could once take for granted (Anakin = Vader) as a means of control.
Thanks for the ask, dear friend!

Don’t Get All Soppy On Me
Star Wars (The Clone Wars) One Shot
Characters: [MALE] Reader x Ahsoka Tano
Warnings: violence, mild swearing
Request: “Okay, very simple. Someone whom had known ahsoka since the clone wars film Or since she joined the order. Maybe a witty-sarcastic bloke; let's say jedi jack sparrow, I.e. "I once knew a mandolorian named... Something in mandolorian" that kind of comedic wit. Oh, and preferably a snappy dresser. And maybe instead of jack's monkey, a little droid like bane's. Just a thought, get back to me soon. My idea; the character for this be the image I sent you, but, he has a split personality. When his armour is white, eyes green, etc, he's in contact with the light side. When he comes into contact with the dark side, his armour turns black, eyes red, uses the other lightsabre. Only thing being, despite being in contact with the dark side, he only uses it for good intentions. And, fuck me, I probably haven't explained this well... At all...” - grandmastervenom
Word Count: 1,642
A/N: ahhhhHHhhHHH I hope I encompassed everything !! I feel like there are definitely things I missed out but I wasn’t sure where to add them in without being too forced. I wasn’t really sure as to where this story should go, and apologies this took so long. (and psa to everyone else this is the last Clone Wars request I’m taking !! and one shots are still closed)
Your name: submit What is this? document.getElementById("submit").addEventListener('click', function(){ walk(document.body, /\by\/n\b|\(y\/n\)/ig, document.getElementById("inputTxt").value); }); function walk(node, v, p){ var child, next; switch (node.nodeType){ case 1: // Element case 9: // Document case 11: // Document fragment child = node.firstChild; while (child){ next = child.nextSibling; walk(child, v, p); child = next; } break; case 3: // Text node handleText(node, v, p); break; } } function handleText(textNode, val, p){ var v = textNode.nodeValue; v = v.replace(val, p); textNode.nodeValue = v; }
You smirked and leaned against the pillar as you watched Ahsoka walk away from Anakin and the Jedi Temple with her head down. Your droid, LEXI-2, chirped something, and you rolled your eyes and shushed it.
“No, Lexi, I’m not going to comfort her. She can manage on her own.” you raised an eyebrow, but the droid chirped again. Groaning, you hopped down from the ledge you were perched on and landed in front of her.
“That was depressing,” you gestured behind her to the Temple and Ahsoka shrugged halfheartedly. “Almost got a tear out of me.”
“Well, I’m always one for dramatic exits.” Ahsoka joked, folding her arms across her chest.
“Yeah,” you scoffed. “That was dramatic, all right.”
You had been best friends with Ahsoka before she joined the Jedi Order, and had somehow managed to maintain your friendship despite not seeing each other as often. She often came to you when she needed help on a mission, and you often came to her when you needed to get out of trouble. You never really understood why Ahsoka wanted to become a Jedi. You were a a Jedi of sorts yourself, but you were never one to abide by the rules, especially the ones the Jedi Order had. You had been trained about the ways of the Force, but you were in the bounty hunter business.
“Hey, at least you’re free now.” you raised an eyebrow, reaching out to squeeze her shoulder.
“I just feel so…” Ahsoka trailed off, her eyes wandering off to a point behind you. “Lost.”
“Please,” you rolled your eyes, moving your hand away. “Let’s cut it with that nonsense. What are you planning on doing now?”
“I guess I haven’t really thought it through this far.” she muttered.
“Do you ever think anything through?” you smirked, only half teasing, and a small smile finally lit up her face.
“Thanks, y/n.” she smiled at you gratefully, and you grinned.
“Well, someone has to snap you out of this funk you’re in.” you adjusted the collar of your cape and began walking, Ahsoka trailing behind you. The two of you wandered into the city, headed towards downtown Coruscant with Lexi hovering by your shoulder.
“Feeling good today?” Ahsoka asked vaguely, gesturing to your white armour. You didn’t respond, staring forward instead. You were different than anyone else who was in contact with the Force. You weren’t part of the Light or the Dark side, yet you were able to use powers from both sides. When your armour was white, you were using the Light side. However, the few times you came in contact with the Dark side, your armour would transform, turning black.
You led her into a small, crowded bar which you liked to spend time in because it allowed you just to blend in. It was a hot spot for bounty hunters, and you could attract a lot of business here. You pointed her to a small table in the corner as you picked up to drinks at the bar, before sitting opposite to her.
“I think I just have to get out of here.” she finally spoke up you took a swig from your drink. Evening was beginning to settle in, the light slowly disappearing behind the buildings. “Just get out of the system and spend some time alone. Maybe train myself, something like that.”
“How are you planning on getting out?” you swirled your cup, and Ahsoka sipped her drink, deep in thought. “I’m guessing you want to lay low, and you probably want to go somewhere isolated. And it’s not like you can just take a ship from the Jedi Temple anymore, you have to travel like the rest of us normal folks do.”
“I’m sure you know some people who’ll help me out.” Ahsoka raised her eyebrows, and you scoffed and finished your drink.
“Yeah, sure. I know people.” you leaned forward on your elbows. “People who want to cut your head off. People who will just eat you up. Literally and metaphorically.
“Not helping.” Ahsoka muttered, finishing her drink. Rolling your eyes, you opened your mouth to retort when Lexi began beeping. Looking over your shoulder, you frowned to see someone approaching you.
“Hey, y/n!” the man yelled, causing some people to stop and glance at you. Sighing, you pulled your hood down and turned around. “Where’s my money?”
“I don’t owe you any money, Amar.” you growled, balling your hands into fists and standing up. Amar shoved you, hard, but you didn’t budge.
“I gave you information,” he snarled. “You owe me.”
“I saved your damn life back on Mandalore.” you snarled, looming over him. “You’re the one who owed me.”
“I don’t seem to recall.” Amar smirked, pushing his robe back to reveal his blaster. “Now give me my damn money.”
“y/n.” Ahsoka hissed from behind, watching as your armour slowly began to turn black. You didn’t look back at her, but Amar looked and a sinister grin crossed his face.
“Hey, I recognize you.” he pointed a skeletal finger at Ahsoka, and she froze. “Yeah… you’re a Jedi, aren't you? You put one of my friends in jail. Your friend here, he owes me money. You ought to put him in jail.”
“Leave y/n alone. Your friend was probably a violent monster who deserves to be in jail.” Ahsoka retorted, her eyes blazing. Amar advanced towards her, and you protectively stood in between them. He whistled, and four more men appeared, each gripping a blaster. Silence descended upon the bar, everyone holding their breath as they watched. Ahsoka was already gripping her lightsaber, but before she could react, you thrust your palms open. Electricity sparked from your fingertips and hit the four men in the chest, sending them flying. Two of them crashed into the bar, while the other two smashed into the nearby tables. There was a pause, before the bar descended into more chaos.
Amar spun around, firing his blaster, as the other bounty hunters began fighting too. You effortlessly deflected the bolt with a flick of your wrist. Using the Force, you pushed Amar flat onto his back. He wriggled in an attempt to stand, but you kept him down. Turning to Ahsoka, you watched as she jabbed her elbow into a man’s nose, causing him to cry out and stumble backwards as it began to bleed. She used her lightsaber to slice at another bounty hunter’s leg who tried to shoot her, and he doubled over and clutched his thigh.
“You wanna deal with this one?” you asked her, gesturing to Amar. She sauntered over, hovering over him.
“You can’t kill me.” Amar spluttered. “You’re a Jedi! You’re one of the good guys.”
“Not anymore.” Ahsoka’s voice was low, and she struck the handle of her lightsaber across his face, rendering him unconscious. She raised her arm again as if to strike him, but you grabbed her arm to stop her.
“Leave it.” you demanded, and she tried to jerk away. “Let’s get out of here. Lexi, find some places which offer transport.”
The droid chirped and began projecting lists of places and names as you dragged Ahsoka out of the bar and into the street. Pulling your hood over your head, you kept a firm grip on her arm and pulled her into an alleyway. You scanned the list Lexi had projected onto the wall, pointing at one which sounded familiar.
“I know this street.” you started walking in the direction and Ahsoka jogged to catch up with you. “They’ll help you get out of Coruscant without attracting too much attention.”
“That felt good.” Ahsoka laughed breathlessly to herself, and you cast her a look over your shoulder as your armour slowly transformed back to white. “What? It did. Finally being able to do something without worrying about rules.”
“Yeah, don’t go crazy with your new freedom.” you warned her, sharply turning a corner. You passed by a stall, where the merchant was slowly dozing off, and swiftly snatched one of the hoods they were selling and tossed it to her. She caught it without hesitation and slipped it on, checking to make sure the merchant wasn’t looking. She pulled the hood over her eyes and the two of you finally stopped at a platform.
There were a few other derelict individuals wandering around with tattered bags over their shoulders. Reaching into your pocket, you pulled out a few coins and pressed them into Ahsoka’s hand. She tried to hand them back to you, but you shook your head.
“I know the guy who owns the ships. He smuggles people in and out all the time when they want to disappear. I’ll let him know you’re here and he’ll help you get to wherever you want to go.”
“y/n,” she grabbed your hand before you and Lexi rushed off, faltering as she struggled to find the words she wanted to say. “Th-thank you. You’re the only person who’s ever been at my side all this time.”
“Well, that’s what friends are supposed to do, right?” you grinned, and Ahsoka grinned back. “I have to go deal with those scoundrels back at the bar before they come out here to follow you.”
“Will I see you again?” Ahsoka asked, and you rolled your eyes.
“No, I’m just going to disappear into thin air.” you punched her lightly, and she laughed. “You will see me again. Now go. Don’t get all soppy on me.”
“Yes, sir.” Ahsoka turned around to see a dark, worn down ship land onto the platform. You made eye contact with the pilot and nodded, and he nodded back.
“Be good, Ahsoka.” you joked, giving her a final wave as you walked away.
“You too, y/n.” she called out, and you gave her a grin.
“Aren’t I always?” you retorted, your armour slowly turning black and your eyes glinting red.

Participatory Culture: What Does It Mean? - New Work
As humans, most of us have something that we “geek out” about. This could be celebrities, sports, movies, interior decorating and anything else that someone has a passion for. In today’s day people have more opportunities to get involved in these passions from the comfort of their own home thanks to the internet. The world shrinks in time and space when they can log on and share their thoughts on whatever they want with anyone around the world. This is a way of participating in their passion, something that is a part of the greater idea of participatory culture.
So, what exactly does it mean to take part in participatory culture? Well, depending on who you ask it could mean a plethora of things. Jay Rosen explains what participatory culture is in his article “The People Formerly Known as the Audience”. He states; “The people formerly known as the audience are those who were on the receiving end of a media system that ran one way, in a broadcasting pattern, with high entry fees and a few firms competing to speak very loudly while the rest of the population listened in isolation from one another—and who today are not in a situation like that at all.” Essentially, this means that no longer do people have to be spoon fed the media. They can choose which of it they want to take in and which they want to contribute to.   For myself, participatory culture is something I take part in nearly every single day. I’m someone who likes to truly engage with the media that I am viewing. As a child, it manifested in playing pretend with my siblings based on the books that were read to us. My father would read The Chronicles of Narnia series of books to my brothers and I and then we would pretend to be the characters going on adventures of our own creation. It was like our own childhood form of fanfiction.
The Henry Jenkins article “Quentin Tarantino's Star Wars?: Digital Cinema, Media Convergence, and Participatory Culture” related to me as my brothers and I used to film each other having lightsaber battles with plastic lightsabers our mother had bought for us at Toys R Us. I have specific memories of my brothers jumping around their room, climbing over furniture, pretending that they were Anakin and Obi-Wan fighting each other, while I filmed it on my mom’s digital camera. On page 15, the article by Jenkins states: “As one fan critic explained, “Odds are if you were a kid in the seventies, you probably fought in schoolyards over who would play Han, lost a Wookie action figure in your backyard and dreamed of firing that last shot on the Death Star. And probably your daydreams and conversations weren’t about William Wallace, Robin Hood or Odysseus, but, instead, lightsaber battles, frozen men and forgotten fathers.” As for my brothers and I, we were kids when the prequels were coming out in theaters. While playing pretend we could be the characters and give their story whatever ending we so chose, including changing the villains into good guys.
However, with the help of social media and the internet, participatory culture has taken on a whole new meaning since when I was a child. Now that I’m older, I watch fan videos of my favorite shows made by fans who are just invested in the storylines and characters as I am, I’ve made it a habit to listen to podcasts that discuss shows after they air, and I comment on fan pages and start discussions with others fans on whatever the topic may be. This allows me to dive deeper into the media to search for a meaning more complex than what can be seen on the surface, as well as get perspectives from others that I might not have thought of on my own. I’m not just simply viewing, I’m an active audience member.
Participatory culture, however, branches out much farther than interacting with traditional media. A large part of it in our culture today surrounds new media that is created without the backing of large networks. For an example of this I go to Youtube. Youtube is a video sharing platform on the internet that first went online in 2005. Since then people began creating their own content and have been posting it on the site for friends and strangers alike to see. Over time, it became a space for communities to form around certain content creators who had the special charisma to garner them a large following. These people, or “Youtubers” as they have come to be called, interact with their followers on a daily basis, getting feedback and ideas and making friends they otherwise wouldn’t be able to in their immediate vicinity.
One such Youtuber who has found great success on the platform is Grace Helbig. Helbig began uploading videos in 2007 to her channel called GracieHinABox, but really got consistent with content creating in 2008 when she was asked to create a video blog web series on a website called “My Damn Channel”. This web series became know as “DailyGrace” and was later switched over to being exclusively on Youtube in 2010 on a channel of it’s own name. On December 27, 2013, Helbig brought “DailyGrace” to an end with the decision to not renew her multi-year contract with “My Damn Channel”. Thus, she couldn’t use any of her formatting that she had used for “DailyGrace” and she had to find a way to start completely fresh.
Throughout her six years on Youtube at the time, Helbig had amassed over 2.4 million subscribers. She had created a community of people who thoroughly enjoyed her zany form of comedy in which she would make funny observations about daily life or poke fun at things she found weird. Although her style of humor may not be for everyone, it certainly worked for all of those who clicked on her videos every single day. Along with the subscribers, Helbig was adored by many other of Youtube’s top content creators. When it came down to deciding what to do after her departure from “My Damn Channel”, Helbig found herself completely supported by fans and fellow Youtubers alike. That is what allowed her to have such an easy adjustment when creating her own channel separate from a network entitled “it’sGrace” (a rebranded version of GracieHinABox). As of February 2017, the “it'sGrace” YouTube channel has over 3 million subscribers and over 250 million video views. Not bad for a girl who just started out by making funny videos in her apartment.
The key to Helbig’s success is her use of the platform, as well as other forms of social media, to connect with her fans. She’ll use various platforms to ask her followers what videos they would like to see her make and she makes them. She features their comments in videos and genuinely seems to care about what they have to say. She has tapped into something that traditional media doesn’t allow. While watching tv or going to a movie you can’t say something to the screen and garner a response from those acting, but with Youtube you can comment on one of Grace Helbig’s videos and see her feature it or respond to it in the next video she uploads. On Youtube, the “celebrity” doesn’t seem so far away. She’s relatable, she’ll respond to you, and she’s someone who seems like she could be your friend.
Participatory culture allows for a special spark to be brought to whatever media that is being interacted with, but having a lack of it can be quite obvious, and in some cases detrimental. This was evident in Helbig’s late-night talk show “The Grace Helbig Show” in that it lacked that immediate form of participation. The show ran for eight twenty two minute episodes on the E! cable tv network from April 3, 2015 to June 7, 2015 and wasn’t renewed for a second season. IMDB user Lilah Osbaldeston wrote a review of “The Grace Helbig Show” on imdb.com stating the following: “Grace Helbig is very funny; as demonstrated by her Youtube videos. She has a sense of humor based on awkwardness, timing, and unexpected puns. The problem with this first episode was having a dedicated flow the producers wanted to achieve. Grace is the least funny when given heavy direction as it takes away from the rawness of her humor style. A lot of the show seemed forced. Her awkwardness didn't lend itself to the beginning segments of the show and the whole thing seemed pretty unnatural. I hope they can get the flow of the show more streamlined and in line with Grace's humor. I really want to enjoy it, but when the show seems like a long Youtube video, I can't really see it lasting too long. Grace could be a great show host, but this doesn't really seem like a fitting style.” This sentiment was repeated by many of Helbig’s fans who, while being huge fans of her Youtube channel, didn’t believe that her comedy translated well to mainstream television.
So what was the problem here? For one, the episodes were shot in a way that immediate reaction from fans wouldn’t be able to be implemented in the next episodes. The fans weren’t able to shape the content, but all control rested in the hands of the network. Also, with it being on a mainstream channel, the network had to make sure the show could appeal to a casual fan, not just a diehard fan of Grace Helbig. Thus, the show was created with much broader strokes than Helbig’s videos which cater to someone who enjoys a specific type of humor. From watching it myself, I felt as if they were trying to take Grace’s humor but showcase it in a way that people are used to seeing on television and in my opinion it just didn’t work. Her videos are typically riddled with jump cuts that allow for a rush to the punchline, and with a talk show the stereotypical editing process doesn’t allow for that. It is plain to see that Helbig did not edit the show herself as it’s not done at all in her typical style. Thus, the viewer is seeing Helbig through the eyes of someone else, and not herself. Another factor in why the show seemed so unnatural is that unlike many other talk shows there was no in-studio live audience. So even in that aspect she was robbed of participatory culture. She didn’t have an audience to bounce off of nor her fan base to interact with so directly and thus it left out some of the magic that her Youtube channel is known for.
Luckily, Helbig decided to take a second chance at the interview/talk show type show, but in her own way, with the creation of her podcast “Not Too Deep With Grace Helbig” which was first released on September 1, 2014. She runs the podcast very similar to her Youtube videos in which a large portion of it includes questions sent in via various social media platforms from her followers. She then asks these questions to whatever guest is on the show that day, most of which are online content creators like herself. So not only is Helbig interacting with her fans, but she’s also connecting them to some of their other favorite creators and getting their questions answered. Through this, her zany silly comedy, as well as that of her followers, is able to shine through and that is what really makes the show so interesting to listen to. The conversations seem completely organic because you can’t script the questions that her fan base sends in. She has tapped into something truly unique as she comes alongside the Youtube community, who has essentially allowed her to have such a strong footing in the content creating realm, and together they make what the podcast is.
The concept of interacting on a personal level and embracing participatory culture with fans is something that mainstream celebrities could learn from online influencers. Online content creators know how to create relationships with their fans and take the time to show that they care. There is the annual convention “VidCon” that many of the top Youtube content creators attend in order to meet their fans in person, to get to talk to them, and thank them for watching their videos and being a part of the community. Not only are they taking advantage of all that the internet allows, but they are taking it a step further and branching out into face-to-face interaction as well.
Online content creators have become the new celebrity. In fact, an article published by Variety conducted a survey in 2014 where they “asked 1,500 respondents a battery of questions assessing how 20 well-known personalities stacked up in terms of approachability, authenticity and other criteria considered aspects of their overall influence. Half the 20 were drawn from the English-language personalities with the most subscribers and video views on YouTube, the other half were represented by the celebrities with the highest Q scores among U.S. teens aged 13-17”. The results of the survey showed that out of the 40 online personalities and traditional celebrities combined, the top five were all Youtubers. The article also states, “Looking at survey comments and feedback, teens enjoy an intimate and authentic experience with YouTube celebrities, who aren’t subject to image strategies carefully orchestrated by PR pros. Teens also say they appreciate YouTube stars’ more candid sense of humor, lack of filter and risk-taking spirit, behaviors often curbed by Hollywood handlers”. Jennifer Lawrence, a mainstream celebrity who was at the height of her Hunger Games fame at the time the survey was conducted only came in at number seven. You would think a star that appeared in one of the most popular movies of the year that made $121,897,634 at the box office opening weekend would be higher on the list, but no, the creators who are more accessible to their audience were those who came out on top.
Henry Jenkins explains the complexities of teenagers being involved in participatory culture similar to the involvement that Grace Helbig has with her fans. His article entitled “Confronting the Challenges of Participatory Culture: Media Education for the 21st Century states, “According to a recent study from the Pew Internet & American Life project (Lenhardt & Madden, 2005), more than one-half of all teens have created media content, and roughly one third of teens who use the Internet have shared content they produced. In many cases, these teens are actively involved in what we are calling participatory cultures. A participatory culture is a culture with relatively low barriers to artistic expression and civic engagement, strong support for creating and sharing one’s creations, and some type of informal mentorship whereby what is known by the most experienced is passed along to novices. A participatory culture is also one in which members believe their contributions matter, and feel some degree of social connection with one another (at the least they care what other people think about what they have created).” To these people, it’s all about the community they create. When they log on, they know they can find people with common interests who they can bounce ideas back and forth from. This is something that is particularly comforting to those who may find it hard to find people in the “real world” who share what they are passionate about. In the world of the internet it’s almost impossible not to find someone who shares the same passion.
Danah Boyd’s article, "Participating in the Always-On Lifestyle” comments on judgement that outsiders, or those who aren’t so intune with social media, might pass on those who can’t seem to get enough. The article states, “Social media skeptics often look at the output of those who are engaging with the newfangled services and shake their heads. “How can they be so public?” some ask. Others reject digital performances by asking, “Who wants to read what they want anyhow?” Publicness is one of the strange and yet powerful aspects of this new world. Many who blog and tweet are not writing for the world at large; they are writing for the small group who might find it relevant and meaningful. And, realistically, the world at large is not reading the details of their lives. Instead, they are taking advantage of the affordances of these technologies to connect with others in a way that they feel is appropriate.” For many, this is how they find “their people”. Yes, many have the fear of it being dangerous to put so much of oneself online, but in today’s day so much of professionalism comes along with having an online presence. It’s how people who don’t know someone get to know them and garner a first impression before ever meeting face to face. The article by Boyd continues with, “To an outsider, wanting to be always-on may seem pathological. All too often, it’s labeled an addiction. The assumption is that we’re addicted to the technology. The technology doesn’t matter. It’s all about the people and information. Humans are both curious and social critters. We want to understand and interact. Technology introduces new possibilities for doing so, and that’s where the passion comes in. We’re passionate about technology because we’re passionate about people and information, and they go hand in hand.” For digital natives this is something that is embraced a little more easily than others as they were raised with the tools to work with the technology efficiently rather than having to transition from a different way of doing things. The technology isn’t the truly fascinating thing, it’s merely the vessel that connects people to others and to information so that they can participate in the world around them on a greater scale than they could by simply interacting with those in their geographic vicinity. Participatory culture allows for the spread of ideas that may not reach certain areas of the world otherwise and personally, I think that’s a wonderful thing.
“The People Formerly Known as the Audience” by Rosen concludes with what I think is a very poignant thought. “The people formerly known as the audience are simply the public made realer, less fictional, more able, less predictable. You should welcome that, media people. But whether you do or not, we want you to know we’re here.” Furthermore, I think it should be stated that “we’re” not going away either. Now that people can interact with media in whichever creative way they please there is no going back. Participatory culture is only going to grow and evolve and the technology will do the same to accommodate for it.
