thinking about team minato again and how utterly unprepared they were for everything. what did minato even teach them? sure he taught kakashi the rasengan, and? obito surely learned his fire jutsu from his clan, rin must have learned her healing jutsu from someone else bc minato is not a medic. so like. he made 9 yo kakashi a jōnin so he could lead the other two on his own, during a war, way beyond enemy lines, knowing they worked horribly together and had 0 teamwork to speak of. so obito dies. rin and kakashi almost die and despite the fact that minato can literally TELEPORT he was too late to save them. that teaches him absolutely nothing bc rin gets captured again and uses kakashi to kill herself because she wasnt strong enough to be saved. reread that last sentence. and then minato puts kakashi (12 at that point??) into the spying torture and assassination black ops because he thinks it will be good for him. like at one point you simply have to laugh

For me it's probably that Akira had raised Mahiru to be St Germaine's vessel (while also loving him as her son) and that Tooru was in on it as well.

Imagine raising your son to always put others before himself (rewarding him when he is diligent and punishing him when he chooses to be slothful) while hiding his origins from him.

Imagine being the only person to willingly take in your nephew without hesitation (making you the hero in his eyes) while simultaneously isolating him from the mage society you serve

Imagine hiding any and all information that could help him better understand the war that he got dragged into and protect the friends he made, forcing him to come up with solutions to the problems he faced based on what he learned growing up.

Imagine when he meets with St Germaine and he looks around, his first thought is that if he doesn't sacrifice himself, everyone he loves and cares for will die.

Edit: ok so I made some incorrect assumptions on Tooru's role on the whole thing. If you check the reblogs you will get a more detailed post. But basically it would be more likely that Tooru knew but only connected the dots after Akira died and in his attempt to protect Mahiru he ended up creating a self-fulfillng prophecy. Thank you to @childrenofthesun77 for pointing out the issues with my theory.

Finally figured out the full line for my hellbender fakemon, plus an ancient crinoid the line relies on. The final evolutions are supposed to play on fool’s gold, looking and acting regal despite the evolution items coming from a jester-themed fakemon. Though the final evolutions are alternately water and fire, both learn moves of the other’s type.
