“I dare you!”
“No, I dare you!”
“I dared you first, di’kut!”
“Oh, oh! You’re scared of me, admit it!”
They’d been at that for a solid three minutes. Ahsoka’s gaze rocked from side to side trying to keep track of their little argument, and at times, she’d forget which of the twins was which.
When in doubt, look for the goatee, she told herself.
The blazing sun did little to dampen the moods of the clones and the Padawan, but then again, few of them would be unhappy when in Naboo with a pool in front of them and some delicious mocktail refreshments. Still watching Fives and Echo argue, Ahsoka gave them a playful eye roll as she took a sip from her freezing pineapple-berry slush, and it was just then that she felt Rex take a seat next to her.
The captain lowered his sunglasses to look at the bickering twins. “Ten credits says they’ll get tired within the minute.”
“Rex, old boy, you have too much faith in those two,” Ahsoka chortled. “But it’s ten free credits for me, so I’ll take you up on it.”
“Do we even know what they’re daring each other to do?” Asked Rex.
“Not a clue,” she shook her head, taking another sip from her beverage.
At that moment, the poolside would be blessed with the presence of another one of the troopers of the 501st, who beckoned all attention onto himself when he set down a large box on the ground with a loud thud. When all eyes were on him, Hardcase stood proudly with his arms extended far above him, the posture of a true harbinger of chaos.
And the box was filled with water balloons.
“I’ve done it!” Hardcase proclaimed. “I have rounded up the largest supply of water balloons known to us! But you know what, that isn’t even the best part.”
Hardcase then began to fumble through the box of water balloons with everyone watching him in silence, and as he did, a few small balloons flopped onto the ground, thankfully without breaking. At last, Hardcase grinned when he—gently—pulled out a large water balloon, twice the size of his own head, from the box before giving a triumphant look to his audience.
Ahsoka could swear his brown irises had little flames in them.
“What is that?” Echo broke the silence.
“I call this my son,” Hardcase grinned. “And I challenge all of you to a fight.”
“A water balloon fight?” Fives laughed. “We’re not five years old.”
“Right, you’re younger than that,” Ahsoka said.
“Ababababa, before you hit me with your theory,” Fives said, “yes, growth acceleration is a thing, but just work with me here, okay?”
“I didn’t mean your growth acceleration,” Ahsoka replied, a mischievous grin on her features. “I meant mentally you’re younger than five years old.”
“You think you’re smart?” Fives said as he walked over to Hardcase. “Well, now I’m thinking I want to accept Hardcase’s challenge so long as I get to see your face getting slammed with some water balloons.”
“Somehow, I’m not quite motivated,” she teased. “Fighting you and Hardcase is hardly a challenge.”
“Well…” Rex intervened, sarcasm flooding his voice. “Forgive me, commander, but I cannot allow you to talk to my soldiers in this manner.”
“Of course,” Ahsoka followed. “Why don’t they attempt to prove themselves as such?”
In front of her, the troopers exchanged looks and nods until finally Rex and Echo joined Fives and Hardcase’s flank, crossing their arms as Ahsoka delicately set her drink safely on one of the little tables by the pool chairs.
“One versus four does sound like more fun,” She said.
“Alright, alright,” Hardcase stepped up to the middle ground. “Here’s how we’ll do this. We’ll divide the ammo half and half, the whole pool and poolside is legal ground except for the chairs because that’s where our snacks are—”
“Agreed,” Fives said.
“-and whoever loses,” Hardcase paused for effect as he went to point to his son, the water balloon, “will dump this baby on General Skywalker.”
Everyone stared blankly at him.
“Hardcase, you’ve lost your mind,” Echo spoke with a shaky voice.
“Relax,” Hardcase whispered to him. “It’s not like we’re gonna lose.”
“I accept the terms,” Ahsoka said.
“Three water balloon impacts to the head of each member in the team marks the winner,” Hardcase concluded. “Commander Tano, please grab your half of the ammunition.”
Ahsoka went over to the box and, whichever way she could, she grabbed half of the water balloons and carried them back to her side of the pool, sticking her tongue out at Fives and Echo on the way, and she took her position.
“Ready,” she said.
“And three… two… one…” Hardcase raised his arms again. “GO!”
Fives and Echo dove into the pool while Rex and Hardcase started throwing balloons at Ahsoka. Unsurprisingly, she was able to dodge them all, and she kept an accurate measure of the time it would take the twins to reach her side of the pool, for which she threw two quick balloons at Rex and Hardcase to keep them distracted long enough for her to throw two more at the twins when they surfaced, hitting them square in the face.
That’s one each, she thought to herself.
Echo was still wiping water off his eyes, giving Ahsoka a chance to launch another balloon at him before diving into the pool herself. Pushing herself off the walls, she was able to make it side to side underwater while the troopers on the surface tried to keep track of her trail, hearing their voices muffled by the water. Finally, she reached the bottom of the pool and pushed herself upwards, admittedly using the Force to aid her, allowing her to jump a good meter above the surface.
With balloons ready in their hands, the clones all aimed and threw at the same time, but Ahsoka rolled mid air and dodged, making their balloons ultimately hit each other.
“Echo’s out!” Fives yelled, giving Ahsoka the perfect window to get out of the pool.
She stood almost completely still as the three troopers fired balloons at her, and Ahsoka either dodged or deflected them, depending on how much she wanted to show off. It bought her just enough time for the three of them to launch everything they had at her, until the three of them stopped and exchanged worried looks.
They had launched everything they had at her.
Ahsoka giggled. “My turn.”
Realization hit the clones as panic slowly entered their eyes, all while Echo watched safely from the sidelines sipping on his mocktail.
“Pull back!” Hardcase yelled.
Ahsoka grabbed a water balloon and chose Hardcase as her first victim, throwing one of the larger balloons straight to his face with all the speed she could muster. Next was Fives, who was still in the pool. In worthy ARC trooper fashion, he put up more of a fight and dodged decently, but even he couldn’t escape Ahsoka’s mighty skill.
It was down to Ahsoka and Rex.
He’d watched legions of droids approach him, brothers fall in the glory of battle, and yet, nothing could be as terrifying. Nothing could fill him with the boiling steam of battle, a fire that coursed through his veins when he did that which he was meant to do, that which he was bred and trained for all his life. In his mind, each of his brothers crying “Captain!” echoed, back and forth…
He could not let them down, even if it was with one final gesture of honor with which he went down to be one with his men.
Ahsoka stopped when she was right in front of him, aiming a bright-orange water balloon. “I will give you the chance to accept defeat, captain.”
Against the railings of the pool, Rex stood straight, a proud captain of the Grand Army of the Republic, and he breathed deep.
“I will not grant you the pleasure, commander, for as a soldier I rose, and as a soldier I shall fall,” Rex spoke.
“Any last words?” She tilted her head.
“Only that…” Rex began. “My one regret in life is letting Hardcase take charge of the rations for our mission on Christophsis.”
“And why is that?” Ahsoka prompted before claiming victory.
“Because he ate all the chips,” Rex closed his eyes solemnly as he accepted his fate.
And thus, Ahsoka mercilessly launched the bright-orange water balloon at Rex’s face, claiming the last victim of that gruesome, fateful water-balloon fight.
As the four troopers groaned in defeat, Ahsoka reclaimed her pineapple beverage and smirked proudly.
“So, which of you will dump Hardcase’s son on Skyguy?”
Wordlessly, the three younger troopers looked over at Rex.
“Dank farrik,” said the captain.
*
Skywalker rested peacefully, unbothered, his eyes closed, asleep and oblivious to war and destruction. The sunshine of Naboo didn’t even begin to remind him of the merciless rays he would endure on Tatooine.
No, Naboo was the birthplace of his beloved, it was a place he’d learned to long to return, where he’d kissed her for the first time.
It was a place he could call home, dare he say, so long as he was with her.
And quietly, Rex loomed above him holding the massive water balloon, hesitating to drop it, looking over his shoulder full of regret as if buying himself time would somehow prevent the worst from happening.
It didn’t help that his three fellow brothers and Ahsoka giggled smugly at him, anxious to see Anakin lose it.
“Rex…”
Rex thought he’d gone mad when he heard his general whispering to him, and it wasn’t until Anakin barely opened one of his eyes and looked up at his captain.
“They put you up to this, didn’t you?” Anakin continued.
“Yes,” Rex made sure to be as quiet as possible, and it seemed it had all gone unnoticed by the others.
Then, Anakin closed his eyes again and rested back. “Do it.”
“Are you sure?”
“I’ll put Hardcase on cleanup duty,” Anakin smirked.
The amount of relief Rex felt could not be put to words.
“It’s an honor to serve alongside you, General Skywalker,” Rex said as his grip on the massive water balloon loosened, letting it drop on Anakin’s head for it to splatter, leaving water all over the place.
The other four bolted away, their laughter echoing even when they were gone, and Anakin stood up gracefully next to Rex.
“Honestly, sir, they are like children sometimes,” Rex chuckled.
“And like a good brother, you played along,” Anakin said. “I’m impressed.”
“Thank you, sir,” Rex said with a little smile.
He liked being the older brother more than he’d ever admit out loud.

Jappa Berry and Tuska Pear
Summary: Bail brings a warning to Owen and offers the twins a small connection to each other.
Characters: Owen Lars, Bail Organa, Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Beru Whitesun Lars
Rating: G
Notes: Written for @starwarsfandomfests 2022 Seas the Day exchange. @thenegoteator had several prompts but the ones that spoke to me were “any of the Kenobi charaters” and “ice cream”. Plus we all knew sooner or later I was going to write Bail and Owen interacting.
Owen Lars was many things, but a fool was not one of them. He knew full well that any trouble in the town was likely heading their way sooner or later. The last thing he needed was Kenobi adding to that.
All the Jedi talk meant that strangers at the door weren’t a surprise. Not even strangers arriving after the suns had set. But they were not welcome, either. The man was lucky Beru hadn’t answered instead.
The stranger was tall, with a neatly trimmed beard. While his brown cloak almost fit in on Tatooine, the fabric was clearly from off world. Not a good sign these days, but at least he held up his hands to demonstrate he had no weapon. He carried only a small bag, brown and nondescript. Everything about him was calculated to be bland and forgettable.
If he had any sense, he was concealing a blaster somewhere. Owen certainly wasn’t unarmed. “What do you want?”
“To speak with you.” His hands didn’t move to the weapon he must be carrying.
“You’re doing that.”
The stranger glanced back over his shoulder. “My name is Bail. I was a friend of Luke’s mother.”

Star Wars Seas the Day Exchange:
My gift was for @yubsie and this was so fun ! I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing! Also the normal shoutout to hawk and @starwarsfandomfeststs and your weekly reminder that I love you and all that you do for this event!
Pairing/Group: The Organa family Theme: Forgetting someone at a fuel stop (this happened to me in Iowa smdh) Word Count: 847
"Every Which Way"
~~~~~~~~~
Bail laughs nervously, slipping back into the passenger seat of the speeder. “See? Leia was just fine! Weren’t you sweetie?” He turns to look at the unamused little girl in the back seat, her arms crossed in the same graceful yet intimidating way as her mother. “No harm done! She was only left there for a few minutes and is perfectly safe.” He turns to his wife, her glare burning into him. “We can now continue our vacation in peace!” He quickly shuffles in his seat, clicking his seatbelt across his lap. “Let's get this show on the road!”
“I can’t believe you left our daughter at a fuel station, Bail.” Breha replies through gritted teeth.”I take a small nap, just one little nap and leave you in charge of the rest stop, And you forget my precious little girl.” She slams her foot on the gas pedal, causing Bail to grip the dashboard as they steer out of the fuelstop lot and onto the interstate. “I don’t know what I am going to do with you!. She sighs dramatically, trying to hide her smile. “Leia sweetie, are you okay?” Breha glances in the rearview mirror at the little girl humming happily in the backseat.
“Yes mother!” She hums. “I am fine. And besides, I was only there for a few minutes.” She looks over to her father, feigning her best pout. “Alone, cold, and lost in a place I have never been!” She sighs sadly. “What is a little girl to do?”
“What do you mean by being alone and cold?” Bail sputters. “It's 86 degrees and the fuel attendant sat with you the entire time and gave you ice cream while you waited!” He turns his attention to Breha. “And if you keep driving like a podracer young lady, I will have to take the wheel myself!”
“Oh so we can arrive at the lake house a week after vacation ends, grandpa driver.”
"Well with how many wrong turns you have taken, we won't be there until next year!"
"The two of you stop it right now!" Leia interrupts. "Lola says if we don't get along, they will take over the driving and turn this speeder right back around and bring us right back home!" She looks between her two parents sternly. "So behave yourselves!"
After a moment of silence, all three of the Organa's burst into laughter, the tension in the speeder dispersing. Bail wipes away a tear from the corner of his eyes and sighs. "Sorry for leaving you behind, Leia." He looks back at his daughter, his hand reaching hers momentarily. "I never would have left you on purpose."
Leia takes his hand and smiles. "I know daddy. Road trips can be pretty hectic and I did wander off. All that matters is that you came back for me."
"And I always will." He smiles, squeezing her hand lightly. He turns back to Breha. "And I apologize to you for causing you to worry. This is supposed to be a fun vacation for the family." Bail  sincerely. "Will you forgive me, dear?"
"Of course, love." Breha smiles nervously, looking out the window of the speeder. "So long as you forgive me for this." She states, clicking on the turn signal to the nearest exit.
"Wrong way again, mother?" Leia asks, suppressing a giggle. She looks over at her father, a twinkle in his eye.
Breha blushes, turning to look at Bail. "I'm sorry." She repeats, smiling. "Must have missed our turn a few miles back." She explains, pulling into a parking lot. She hands him the map and sighs. "Would you mind being my navigator?"
Bail thinks for a moment and shakes his head. He hands Leia the map and smiles. "How about you lead the way?" He asks her. "I think it's time you get a chance to prove you have what it takes!"
The little girl eagerly takes the map and opens it up, examining their route carefully. "I see where you marked our flight path! I can tell you how to get there easy. But," she stops, looking at the unmarked road ahead. "If we keep going the way we were going, there's another turn up ahead that leads to the same place! I say we go the new route! " She looks up at her mom and dad, smiling. "Either way, we will end up exactly where we need to be!"
"You heard our little navigator, sweetheart." Bail beams, looking to his wife. "Onward to new roads!"
Breha smiles and nods, pulling the speeder back onto the road. "You only gave her that map to navigate so you could nap, didn't you?" She asks him quietly, eying him in amusement.
"Of course I didn't!" Bail tries his best to look offended, a small smile forming on his lips. He leans back in his seat and sighs, closing his eyes. "But now that you mention it, a nap would be delightful!" His hand reaches to the center console to hold Breha's and he smiles. "Don't you just love vacation?"
Quick gift fic for @archer973 for the @starwarsfandomfests !
ships: disaster lineage + Cody + Rex, background obikin
words: ~800
Being stranded was, as one might imagine, stressful. Though Ahsoka was continuously reassured by her Master and Grand-Master that help was on the way, and Rex hadn't seemed stressed in the slightest, Ahsoka couldn't help but worry that they'd never get off this planet.
Though, admittedly, there were worse places to be. The planet they'd landed on had diverse fauna, but they'd managed to crash-land on a tropical island with lush beaches, beautiful tree foliage, and the wildlife nothing more than curious land mammals. Ahsoka hadn't even been unfortunate enough to encounter a crab.
She was sitting out on the beach watching Rex and Cody splash around in the water, more carefree than usual. Cody had commandeered a broken gun to be used as a water gun, and the two of them were playing some sort of assassin-esque shooting game under the guise of training, though no one was convinced. Behind her, she could hear the light bickering of Anakin and Obi-Wan.
"There's nowhere without any kriffing sand on this entire island," Anakin was complaining for about the 20th time today. "I even climbed a tree, Master. A tree, and there was still sand. How is there sand in a tree?"
They were approaching from whatever scavenging they'd done in the small forest on the island. Obi-Wan had said they were just looking for something more delicious than their rations. Ahsoka was hardly convinced that that was their only reason for their solo journey into the privacy awarded by the tree coverage. She'd learned the hard way what the two of them were up to when they were alone. It had only taken one surprise visit to Master Kenobi's quarters to learn how to knock.
"That is what islands are like, dearest," Obi-Wan responded. Ahsoka felt a robe spread out next to her, and she turned towards her Grand-Master with a small smile.
"Any luck?" she asked. On Obi-Wan's other side, Anakin was spreading out his own robe to sit on, a scowl on his face.
Obi-Wan sighed. "These mammals are surprisingly nimble," he said. "Not that Anakin was much help, considering he was moaning the whole time."
Anakin threw him a scowl. "It gets everywhere. I'm never going to get it out of my hair. These robes might as well go in the trash."
Ahsoka snorted. "Don't be so negative, Master. Rex and Cody are having fun." She inclined her head to where Cody was ducking under a wave while Rex sniped him with ocean water.
Anakin's scowl turned to them. "I don't see how they can even have fun in a time like this."
Obi-Wan leaned over and flicked his ear. "Your Padawan is right. No more negativity. I'm banning negativity."
"You can't ban negativity!" Anakin argued.
"And yet, here I am. You're not going to disobey a direct order, are you, Anakin?" Obi-Wan asked, as if this were just any other conversation. Ahsoka was fighting off a grin.
"Yeah, Master," she teased. "That would be a bad example for me."
Anakin sputtered for a moment before throwing his hands in the air, opening his mouth to assuredly say something negative, when there was suddenly a spray of water in his face, cutting off any argument. There was a long pause as Anakin blinked, sea water slowly dripping down his face and dripping onto his robe. Obi-Wan and Ahsoka were both biting their lips, trying to hold off laughs before they erupted out of them.
Slowly, Anakin turned towards the shallow ocean, where Cody was standing with his gun still aimed, Rex covering his mouth as he slowly shook with laughter.
"Next negative comment is another squirt with the gun, sir," Cody said, voice calm.
Anakin's eyes narrowed. The silence continued, the only sound the waves surrounding them.
Ahsoka was curious what Anakin was going to do next, and Obi-Wan reached out a tentative hand to lay on his arm.
"Anakin…," he warned, which seemed to be all her Master needed to hear. The next moment, Anakin was flying through the air, tackling Cody to the ground. That seemed to break Rex, as he doubled over laughing, grasping his sides as he bent over.
Cody and Anakin re-emerged from the waves, with the only thing anyone could see was them grappling for control of the water gun. That seemed to finally break Obi-Wan, Ahsoka finally joining in, losing her own composure. It didn't take long for Anakin to come out victorious, spraying everyone with the ocean spray.
When Obi-Wan got his first hit, he was immediately running out into the ocean himself, stealing the water gun and joining in the fight. Ahsoka sat back and watched the four adult men battle each other, the gun quickly changing hands. Slowly, she felt the inherent stress that came with a crash to melt away, watching her family laugh and play fight with each other, the worries of the war less present than usual.
It wasn't what she would call a vacation, but, at the moment, it was what she needed. The rest of the Galaxy could wait for them for just a little longer.
Reminders
@geekinthecorner - Here's your gift for the @starwarsfandomfests Seas the Day Event. You gave me the option for some angst, so here's some. I hope you like it.
The base is on fire.
Hera’s ears were ringing from the evacuation alarms going off, but all she could think about was that the base was on fire. Everything that she and other rebels had worked to build on Yavin was burning down around her and yet she could not move.
She could feel the smoke from the fire burning her chest with every breath and see the flames of the fire coming closer. The searing heat of the flames came closer and closer, launching Hera back into a memory of a day she would rather forget.
“KANAN,” she screamed, reaching out towards him.
Kanan’s head turned back, unseeing eyes seemingly looking right at her, before he pushed her back onto the ship. Tears streamed down her cheeks as his eyes cleared one last time before the flames swallowed him up, taking him from her forever.
“Hera,” a familiar voice came, sounding far away.
“Hera,” came the voice again, as she felt someone shaking her. “We have to go, now.”
Hera blinked twice, almost jerking away from Sabine, who was holding on to her arms. She blinked again, registering the heat of the flames, almost ten times more intense than they had been a few minutes before.
“We need to get out of here,” Sabine said, still holding onto Hera’s arm to drag her along with her.
Sabine grabbed her arm, dragging her along as she ran through the hall of the base. Hera was distantly aware of this as they moved further away from the fire.
Eventually, they both emerged outside of the base.
Hera gasped, coughing at the sudden intake of fresh air irritating her throat. She turned back, looking at the base. “Hera, are you okay?” Sabine asked, clearly noticing that she was still a bit out of it.
 Hera was silent for a few minutes, listening to the crackling of the flames as they continued to grow higher.
“I-” she hesitated, tears starting to well up in her eyes. “I’m fine.”
“No you’re not fine, Hera. Will you please just go to medical and get a check up? If not for yourself then for the baby?”
“I’ll go after everyone has made it out and been accounted for. Now I need to find the other leaders of the High Command.”
Hera immediately began to make her way through the crowds of people watching the fire spread throughout the base. While she may have looked like a perfectly calm, focused general on the outside, her mind was only focused on replaying Kanan’s death over and over.
Without her permission, a stray tear escaped and rolled down her cheek. She quickly drew a hand under her eyes, looking around to see if anyone noticed. Hera looked around, finding a more secluded area closer to the forest and walking over to it.
She coughed a few more times, trying to expel the rest of the smoke from her lungs. Hera closed her eyes, and the smell of smoke still lingered in the air. All she could think of was the flames swallowing Kanan up and taking him from her forever. Tears began to well up in her eyes, streaming down her face while the fire continued to burn.
Summary:
Rex only wants to keep his pod safe, but he truly didn't mean to stab the human. He just didn't want him to find, and potentially hurt, his family. Anakin didn't care that the mer's first reaction was to attack. All he cared about was the fact that he had the chance to see him. A chance he desperately hoped would be repeated.
Written for @starwarsfandomfests Seas the Day gift exchange for @reaalikaasu Hope you enjoy!
Sneak Peak:
 “I stabbed a human!"
“You what!” Kix shouted as he darted out of his and Jesse’s room so fast he almost collided with the wall.
 “Can I  stab a human!” Hardcase asked eagerly, the tip of his dark blue tail swinging up over his shoulder.
 Jesse reached out and snatched it before he could accidentally stab one of them and shook his head. “No stabbing humans.”
 “Rex stabbed a human!”
 “Rex stabbed a human!” Echo screeched as he came into the back of their home, basket in his arm full of produce from the garden. “What was Rex doing near a human!”
 “Did they die?” Fives asked without even looking up from his lounged position in the communal area.
 “That is      not    what is important here!” his mate exclaimed.
 “If they’re dead, can I see the body?” Dogma asked with an eager, sharp toothed grin.
 “What, no!” Kix exclaimed, arm shooting out to catch the smaller dogsharkmer’s waist. “No one is seeing any dead body, or stabbing anyone else! Rex, what the hell happened!?”
My contribution to the @starwarsfandomfests summer gift exchange, for @the-dank-farrik! The prompt was chaos and disaster is process (fun), so here’s Cal about to get absolutely dunked on by Merrin. I decided to place them on a made-up planet, and I had a lot of fun designing the scene elements.
I busted up my hand, so I made the illustration much smaller then planned. I’ll finish a full version with Cere and BD1 and Bogling soon! Hope you like it!
On August 8, 2022, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) executed a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago, the residence of former U.S. president Donald Trump in Palm Beach, Florida. The search warrant application was authorized by U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and approved by Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart, following a criminal referral by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). The order, unsealed a few days after the search, showed that the FBI obtained the search warrant as part of an investigation into Trump relating to three federal criminal statutes: violations of the Espionage Act regarding unauthorized retention of national defense information; destroying or concealing records "with the intent to impede obstruct or influence" federal government activity; illegal removal or destruction of federal government records (without respect to cause). 2022 Fic in Review
I found this while I was looking for something else and decided to revive it for this year!
Tagging: @maryellencarter, @ysalamiri-queen, @called-kept, @tabbiewolfreblogs, @mistr3ssquickly, @dukeswonderousmenagerie, and @sempaiko! (Hi, SW friends, this is still @hixystix/@x-wing-junkie!)
So, for 2022, I have:
Total Number of Fics: 10 posted, 1 that will be posted, 1 I plan to write, 1 that might not get posted until the new year.
Total Wordcount: 158,099 (so far)
Fandoms: Lupin III & Star Wars: Rebels
Most Popular Fic (by bookmarks): At Sea (41 bookmarks)
Most Popular Fic (by kudos): Also At Sea (170 kudos)
Favourite Fic: Little Thefts, published 11/09
And below the cut, a month-by-month recap!
January
Nothing this month!
February
Morning Coffee: a short little Kalluzeb office AU ficlet! Pretty cute and fun to write, it was inspired by some @sempaiko art.
Ties That Bind: my first foray into multichapter Lupin fic, this is a soulmate fic that tries not to be a typical soulmate fic. After all, just cause you have a bond doesn't mean you don't have to work on your relationships, right?
Gimme Shelter: This was supposed to end up being LuZeni porn but just became a sorta sweet, sorta silly survival fic. Got to draw on my Wilderness EMT training, so that was fun.
March
The Last Prince: Part of my SPN/Rebels fusion series I wrote with Sempaiko! I wrote plot, she wrote porn, it worked well. :D
At Sea: Started in March, completed in May. This was my follow-up to Gimme Shelter and turned out to be a hell of a lot of fun to write. Because of course Lupin would tag along on Zenigata's vacation!
April
Resistance: So this wasn't intended to serve as a goodbye to the Rebels fandom, but it kind of did that anyway. I still love it, but I burned out a bit after 2 years, 58 stories, and almost a million words.
May & June
I was in a medicinal haze these months and got NO writing done. I was just glad I finished At Sea in time.
July
Smother Your Sorrows: This one is ALL @maryellencarter's fault for giving me an angsty prompt. It was an adventure to write because I was both thrilled to be writing again and challenged with characterizations and emotions I hadn't written before. Pretty proud of this one.
August, September, & October
I was working on Smother all these months!
November
Little Thefts: written for my friend @lots-o-doodles, who wanted something JigLup involving Jigen's purple shirt. It went more places than that, but it's cute and it's sweet and I have fun re-reading it!
Thief of Time: Still in progress! I actually wrote the first three chapters of this back in Jan/Feb, but it took me until November to figure out how to continue. If I can pull off this next chapter, I'll be as proud as I am of Smother.
Birthday Presents: Dashed off in a couple days for Jigen's birthday, this actually was the only smut I wrote so far this year!
December
Still to come: my Lupin holiday exchange fic, a LuZeni smut fic for Christmas (hopefully) and hopefully the end of Thief of Time!
A Shattered Peace: October 2022 Prompts
5 - Clone
[previous] [next]
Rating: Teen Word Count: 937 Author's Note: Part of a series of shorts inspired by random SW October prompt lists, all set in the same universe as my fic, A Shattered Peace (not necessary to read that first, but helpful). Summary: Wolffe contemplates a clone's armor. Takes place sometime in 20BBY, very much in the future of A Shattered Peace. Also available on AO3
One of the most important items to clones was their armor.
It protected them. Shielded them from the harsh elements of unforgiving planets.
It represented them. Reflected their lives and their loyalties. Showed the individual parts that made up the whole.
It was one of the only tangible things in their lives that they could truly call their own.
Well, mostly their own.
Wolffe stared at his phase one chest plate, ran his fingers over the ridges, over the cuts and scrapes war had painted across it. He’d managed to hold onto this bit of his armor for quite a long time. Longer than most clones two years into the war, anyway.
His helmet had changed over time. One had been lost to the sea on Tibrin. Another blown to pieces with the Triumphant. He’d never really had trouble replacing those.
But this chest plate . . .
He’d left it behind on Coruscant when they’d been sent on the mission that ended with the Malevolence. A stroke of luck, the cause of which he couldn’t even remember. But it had given him something to hold onto after he’d lost so much.
And now the GAR wanted it back. Wanted to take the only thing Wolffe had ever had any claim to and replace it with something new that he didn’t trust.
His hands tightened around the chest plate, the plastoid shaking and creaking under his strength but not breaking. Never breaking. Like clones, phase one armor was made of stronger stuff.
Sighing, Wolffe released his stranglehold slightly and looked over at the kit Sinker had dropped off hours ago. He’d left a bag that Wolffe was supposed to fill with his old armor and take to the hangar bay by the end of the rotation. A droid would gather all the bags, pack them on a ship, send them off to be refurbished into something new. The Republic was not in the habit of wasting war material. Not armor. Not clones.
Sometimes, even, clones were refurbished, too.
Wolffe closed his eyes against the thought and set his chest plate gently down on his bunk. He let his hands hover over it for a moment, let his mind take stock one last time of all the memories held in the banged up whiteness.
A flash of pride as he clipped it to his chest for the very first time.
A rush of thankfulness when it held up against blaster fire on Geonosis.
An ache of desire as fingers that weren’t his undid the clasps with a gentleness he was taught to never expect.
Nothing but mere moments across two years. Nothing at all, in the grand scheme of things. But they were moments that added up to everything that made Wolffe who he was.
The chest plate didn’t contain Wolffe’s life, but it was a part of it. And he couldn’t help but wonder: if he could be made to give this small thing up, what else might he be made to do in the future?
What else might he be forced to let go of?
As the moment passed, Wolffe brought his hands away from the chest place, moved them up and down his body as he undid the rest of his armor and placed it in the bag. It was a methodical process, something he did every day. But this time, instead of feeling the release of weight from his muscles with every piece he removed, he somehow felt heavier.
And heavier still when he put on the phase two armor — the pieces so similar yet entirely different to those that now sat in a pile in the bag, waiting to be shipped off across the galaxy.
The new pieces felt wrong. Felt uncomfortable and tight and much too shiny. The edges dug into his flesh through his body suit, he could barely see out of the smaller visor. What was the Republic playing at? Surely this wasn’t better than what they’d had before.
Wolffe took off the new helmet and clipped it to his belt — no point in wearing it any longer than he had to. He picked up the bag and made for the door of his quarters, turning back only when a flash of reflected light caught his eye.
The chest plate was still on his bunk.
Before he knew what he was doing, Wolffe found himself standing over his bunk, the piece of armor in his hands once again, bag tossed back onto the ground.
He cast his eyes around the room. This was his private quarters. No one came in here except with his permission, even when he was away from Coruscant.
His gaze landed on the bag of his old armor. A bag that would be one of many tossed into a machine that wouldn’t keep track of how many pieces per clone were thrown into its pits. What was one chest plate, in an army of millions?
For the first time that day, Wolffe felt his chest lighten.
- - - - -
Ten minutes later, he placed the bag among hundreds of its kind in the hangar bay. And, when the loading droid asked in its monotonous droll if he was sure he’d packed everything, Wolffe couldn’t keep the smirk off his face.
“Yeah, droid,” he said with a tilt of his head, thinking of the space under his bunk that now housed two items instead of just one, “I got everything.”
The droid waved him off, and as he walked away, Wolffe let his smirk turn into a smile. The GAR could order whatever they wanted.
Clones would always be made of stronger stuff.
China, apparently not content with producing nearly all of the West's goods and products in sum, is now adding "cruise ships" to its list of manufacturing feats.
The country's first ship, being called "Adora Magic City," also known as "Mo Du" in Putonghua, left its docks at Shanghai at 1:30PM local time on Tuesday, according to reports from China Media Group and the Global Times.
The ship had been under construction for nearly 4 years, the report says. The report calls the ship "the world's most complex single electronic product made up of over 25 million individual parts, five times the number of individual parts used in China's first domestic aircraft".
The ship sports 2,125 guest rooms and can accommodate 5,246 guests, the report says. It was built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co (SWS) under the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).
Tumblr media
With a 6 day floating process behind it, the ship is now being delivered for final testing and internal decoration. It is set to be delivered at the end of 2023, following two sea trials. Commercial operations will start shortly thereafter in 2024.
The "Adora Magic City" is as tall as a 24-floor building, has 14 decks and offers 40,000 square meters of public areas, China-state owned media entity Global Times writes, calling it a "crown jewel" of global shipbuilding.
China now joins Germany, France, Italy and Finland as a country with the ability to build large cruise ships. Global Times says that "Shanghai is being built into China’s global cruise ship hub".
A "sister ship" to the Adora started construction in 2022.
Peak Climbing in Nepal
Another exciting and severe adventure sport is peak climbing. Every climber enjoys and feels rejuvenated by these thrilling activities, which provide an exceptional mountaineering experience. Since Nepal is a Himalayan country, there are many summits to climb there. Mountaineers in Nepal have a lot of attractive stuff to choose from when peak climbing. The Himalayan region features enormously tall peaks. There are more than 1300 peaks higher than 6000 meters, and eight of the 14 summits higher than 8000 meters in the world are in Nepal.
Tumblr media
Extreme mountaineers are not the only ones who can climb the Himalayas. Many of our visitors are just outdoor enthusiasts looking to add a little excitement to their trip; many are also first-timers. Many of the trekking peaks (small to medium level summits) are not technical in terms of difficulty. Without using any additional oxygen, they are ascended. Being physically fit and having an adventurous spirit can help you enjoy the mountains more. Small range climbing vacations are suitable for anyone who can trek for 5-8 hours per day for a few weeks, is not frightened of snow, and can follow our climbing guide's simple instructions, which cover fundamental rope abilities and safe equipment usage and use.
KyajoRi Peak Climbing
For thrill enthusiasts who wish to climb the mountain without having to deal with a lot of other people, KyajoRi's semi-technical peak is perfect. The SW ridge, which has two more sites above the base camp, is frequently followed by the expedition. More importantly, you may appreciate the ascents and descent's full beauty. The KyajoRi Peak Climbing Itinerary could provide an amazing mountaineering experience for everyone in 2022. You will certainly be amazed by the KyajoRi Peak Climbing Nepal's beautiful but unusual route, which is scented with fresh air and provides you with the trip's excitement. The Khumbu location of KyajoRi has the advantage that the road that faces south will be warm because it is oriented toward the sun.
Three Peak Climbing
Mera Peak, Island Peak, and Lobuche Peak are the three peaks in the Everest region that are most often scaled. Many people enjoy climbing summits each year. Furthermore, Nepal is home to numerous magnificent peaks, making it difficult to stand out among them. Similar to how the peaks' unique structure contributes significantly to their attraction. While on the tour, you can experience real Himalayan climbing and hone your mountaineering skills. Three high passes in the Khumbu region—the Kongma La, at 5535 meters, the Cho La, at 5420 meters, and the Renjo La, at 5340 meters—make this journey longer and more challenging than the regular one. This tour offers the opportunity to conquer three non-technical Himalayan peaks, including ChukkungRi (5550 m), Kala Pattar (5550 m), and Gokyo Ri(5385 m)., as well as a full circumnavigation of the region.
Island Peak Climbing
ImjaTse often referred to as Island Peak, is a Himalayan summit in eastern Nepal. Eric Shipton's group gave the mountain the name Island Peak in 1951 because, as viewed from Dingboche, it looks to be an island in a sea of ice. ImjaTse was the new name given to the summit in 1983, however, Island Peak is still the most widely used. The peak is actually a continuation of the ridge that descends from Lhotse Shar's southernmost point. You can reach the summit of a beautiful mountain at a height of 6189 meters by climbing this trekking peak. As you stand at the top, experience the same indescribable sense of accomplishment as you would at the summit of Mount Everest.
Yala Peak Climbing
Yala Peak Climbing is an easy climbing trip that takes place in the Langtang Region of Nepal and is a lovely trekking journey that goes all the way to Yala Peak (5550 m). The summit is recognized for being a superb vantage point that affords summit-goers a genuine sense of being high in the isolated Himalayas with few people around, without subjecting them to a significant amount of technical effort. The breathtaking vistas of the mountains, including the Shisapagma, DorjeLakapa, and LantangLirung, will be your reward. It has drawn a lot of climbers recently due to its average height.
Mera Peak Climbing
The highest trekking mountain in Nepal, Mera Peak (6,461m/21,190ft), is reached via Mera Peak Climbing. From the summit, you can see Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga, as well as five other 8,000-meter peaks. In actuality, its 6476m elevation makes it Nepal's highest peak for climbing without a permit. Since the snow slopes at Mt. Mera Peak do not exceed 30 degrees, technical peak climbing experience is not necessary. You will be protected by fixed ropes and fixed lines. During the ascent to the summit, you will be following the climbing Sherpa's directions and lead.
Dhampus Peak Climbing
Dhampus Peak often referred to as Thapa Peak, is an easy-to-climb trekking peak in Nepal that rises 6,012 meters above sea level and is nestled between Tukuche Peak and the Dhaulagiri Himal. The broad interfluve ridge dividing the Upper Dolpo region from the Upper Mustang region is followed by the Dhampus peak ridge. Its location between the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges provides us with views of a diverse diversity of plants and landscapes, opening up every vantage point to the beautiful grandeur of this area. The peak-climbing expedition provides an adventure, a cultural outing, and a picturesque outing to this stunning region.
Lobuche Peak Climbing
One of the most well-liked "trekking peaks" in Nepal is Lobuche East. The ninth-highest trekking mountain in Nepal is Lobuche Peak. Both serious 8000m mountaineers who use the peak for its acclimatization and practice benefits as well as trekking groups who come to see the breathtaking view of Mt. Everest and the Khumbu valley from its summit attempt Lobuche east, which is conveniently located next to the route to Everest Base Camp. There aren't many technical challenges during the reasonably straightforward climb. Both Base Camp and High Camp have plenty of room and dependable water supplies, allowing the climber to focus more on enjoying the mountain and less on the practicalities.
