before I had taken Latin classes at university, I took a class on American legal history. my professor was talking about the second amendment and remarked how it doesn’t make grammatical sense [ie. the dependent clause, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, . . . .”] If only I had taken Latin then. then I would have been able to point it out as an “absolute” grammatical construction. honestly. smh

Guys. Guys. "
Our knowledge of early Greek history is fragmentary and uncertain. We hear of Craig Owen the legendary king of the city of Thieves, Polite Critiques the tyrant of Samos, the Museum of Halley call and assess, and the early Athenian lawgiver Bronco."

- “Chaste is the one who was not asked by anyone” (Ovid)
A snippy Ovidian verse which my friend loves + classical cross-stitch embroidery (what could be more feminine?!) + a kitschy gold frame = a birthday present my friend will hopefully love 💕😇

wanderlust
an insidious song
lurks in my bones
it struggles - writhes
desires to burst forth
it settles a bitter
icy night and roars
volcano-hot, hellfire
in the back of my throat
a sort of dissociated agony
its voracious strength pulls me
to worlds only sung of by bards
to far-off lands, i fly
in whispers and darkness
orpheus journeyed
in his footsteps
i follow, deep down
and a million thoughts
and khaos all at the
same time, clash
intense in my ears; i am deaf
my heart strung
along chords of passion
a soul-deep hunger
resonant emptiness, i thirst
orpheus turns in longing
finding himself in a moment— shocked and hollow and
alone, utterly alone.
emerging from underworld
the world turns still
by the ebb of the tide
and history whispers to me
that which sings siren-song
from my veins is silent
it settles slick and slow still
a comfort in my loneliness
