Mission: Buy the Armored Core VI Blu-rays
Tumblr media
1. "621. Here's a request from a friend. Street dates for the Armored Core VI Blu-rays are in. Volume 1 includes Episodes 1 and 2. Deluxe Limited Edition packs in a bonus novella, if you wanted to know how G4 and G5 ended up in the Redguns. Audio commentary from me and Michigan too. Bring it home, 621."
2. "This is V.II Snail. I am commissioning you for this request—consider it a privilege. Having been favorably received, Volume 2 of the Armored Core VI Blu-rays is now available for reservation. Episodes 3 and 4 detail the events up to and including Operation Wallclimber. Packaged as a bonus is a novella that lays bare V.IV's induction into the Vesper Squad, as well as some of the meager deaths of Walter's mutts. Proof of your ability is on the line—you will not return empty-handed."
3. "Raven, it's me. Volume 3 of the Armored Core VI Blu-rays is going on sale. That means Episodes 5 and 6, where you take on the Watchpoint. I've looked into the bonuses. There's a novella in this one covering the Fires of Ibis, and a report on Dolmayan. I don't have any funds with which to buy it... Would you preorder it for me?"
4. "Tourist. This is "Chatty" Stick from RaD. There is a date set for Volume 4 of the Armored Core VI Blu-rays, which has made the boss very happy. Episodes 7 and 8 will cover the Crossing. There is a novella about how the boss created me, and a bonus CD of Arquebus and Balam corporate anthems. That's all I had to say. Later, tourist. "
5. "Hey, buddy. V.IV Rusty here. They just announced a date for Volume 5 of the Armored Core VI Blu-rays. That's Episodes 9 and 10, but word is they're going deluxe—a fresh cut of Episode 11, the one where we down the Ice Worm. Still going strong with the bonuses, too—a spin-off courtesy of Arquebus PR's radio station... one whole hour of Vespers VS. Redguns on CD. Don't miss out on it, buddy."
6. "Hey, tourist. It's your old friend, "Cinder" Carla of RaD. Looks like they're pushing out Volume 6 of the Armored Core VI Blu-rays. They're capping this one with the special where you intercept the Redguns. And hey, the viewers didn't vote for it, but someone up there loves us, because they're throwing in the alternate ending too. Chatty, boot up the ACs! Something tells me we're gonna go shopping!"
7. "V.II Snail, come in! This is V.VI Maeterlinck! They've gotten too lavish with Volume 7 of the Armored Core VI Blu-rays! On top of Episode 13, they've brought out a reveal-all OVA about the formation of Overseer, and a top-secret Institute report from Professor Nagai! They even have a CD where Handler Walter sings for the Episode 13 ending theme!? Requesting backup, stat!"
8. "Guess who's calling, tourist. Listen to your lucky numbers—Armored Core VI Season 2, Boxset 1, coming to stores. Sounds like they've got Episodes 1 through 4 in the "Fires of Raven" arc. Bonuses are... an old diary written by that little Ayre interloper, and a drama CD they're calling "MIND α, Release Phase 1". Happy face, tourist! Let's have ourselves the last laugh!"
9. "Hey, buddy. V.IV Rusty here. Just got a message about Armored Core VI Season 2—they're readying to sell Boxset 2. Contents are Episodes 1 to 4 of the "Liberator of Rubicon" arc. They're packing an Alternate Limited Edition with a figure of STEEL HAZE ORTUS. Your ideals brought cinders to life in the production team. I'm moving out to preorder, buddy."
10. One new message. "Rb23, independent mercenary Raven. Armored Core VI: The Movie -Alea iacta est- is now on streaming services. A UHD-BD, containing audio commentary by myself and Ayre, a CD of the main theme as sung by Ayre and ALLMIND, and a storyboard collection, is also available for purchase. This ending exists for all mercenaries."

11 Questions With Taylor Swift (The Boot - Nov 5, 2007)
At the ripe old age of 17, Taylor Swift is already in the country music history books. She's the only female solo artist ever to write or co-write every song on a platinum-selling debut album. And though the songwriting prodigy is hard at work on her second album, she isn't quite ready to put the CD that's earned her numerous accolades to rest. Swift recently sat down with us to talk about beefing up her eponymous debut. And in true teenage fashion, we also gab about boys, high school drama and how she helped her buddy Kellie Pickler through a tough breakup.
Tell us what's included on the new 'Taylor Swift [Deluxe Edition]' project.
The album has been out for a year, but it's too early to put out the second studio album. But we wanted to give [the fans] more music. So this was an opportunity to put out three new songs and a bunch of exclusive content. I actually edited a home movie on my laptop, and it's on there as a special feature. There's my first phone conversation with Tim McGraw, all my music videos and a bunch of concert footage. The [new] songs are demos that I wrote when I was 15, trying to get a record deal. (x)
Is there a true story behind your current single, 'Our Song'?
I wrote this song in my freshman year of high school for my ninth grade talent show. I was sitting there thinking, "I've gotta write an upbeat song that's gonna relate to everyone." And at that time, I was dating a guy and we didn't have a song. So I wrote us one, and I played it at the show. Months later, people would come up to me and say, "I loved that song that you played." And then they'd start singing lines of it back to me. They'd only heard it once, so I thought, "There must be something here!" (x)
You've toured with some notorious pranksters, namely Rascal Flatts and Brad Paisley. What's the funniest joke that's been played on you?
Brad Paisley hasn't pranked me yet ... because he's afraid of me. [laughs] But Rascal Flatts had all of their crew take fold-out chairs and just sit on the stage during my performance. So there were eight guys, just sitting on stage reading the newspaper. And I'm playing right next to their faces, kinda hamming it up, trying to intimidate them. And I look in the newspapers they're reading, and there are Chippendales models in the newspapers! [laughs] (x)
We hear you wrote a song with Kellie Pickler for her next album.
Kellie came on my bus this summer and was all upset about her ex-boyfriend. She was like, "I just want to be over this!" And she gets up on stage now and tells everyone all about it. She's like [imitating Kellie], "He went out and got some other girl pregnant!" [laughs] And I'm like, "OK, if you want to tell everyone your personal stuff, but there's no better way to get over something than to write it all down." So we went into the back bedroom of my tour bus and wrote this awesome song. It's about how, for the rest of his life, he's going to regret cheating on her. And she's said to me since then, "You know what, I didn't think there was anything I could do to really get past that. But writing that song gave me complete closure." (x)
Is there anything you miss about high school?
I don't think there's really anything I miss, to be honest. There's a lot less drama when you're touring the country on a major tour. And I've actually been to prom before ... twice. So I don't want anyone to feel bad for me. It was really great that I got to experience those first two years of high school, and I'll never forget that. I learned a lot. But I feel like I've had the best senior year ever. (x)
How would you say your young age has helped you and how has it hurt you in the music business?
I think my age has helped me, because I can write about things I'm going through and girls my age can automatically relate. And I think [my age] has hurt me, because in the beginning, people were like, "Teenagers and country music? No way!" And I had interviewers who were dead-set on trying to get me to feel bad about how old I was. But you have to stand by who you are. I am 17-year-old girl, and I'm not ashamed of that. Age should not limit what you can accomplish. (x)
Is there a special guy in your life?
I'm completely single! I think that love is something that hits you when you're not looking for it. So I've been actively not looking for it for like two years. [laughs] I'm always the third wheel on my friends' dates. I have a bunch of best friends who never go more than a month without having a boyfriend. And I think that's kinda rubbed off on me, because I've seen the stuff they've gone through over the past two years. And I'm just like, "I'm gonna pursue my career instead." (x)
Garth Brooks has said that you are one of his daughters' favorite singers. Is that surreal to hear that a living legend is familiar with your music?
He is a living legend! And if you asked me who my hero is, I'd say Garth Brooks. I've met Garth's girls, they're wonderful. They came out to one of my shows. And it's just so unbelievable to see someone like Garth Brooks have kids who like my music. I'm like, "Are you kidding me? Your dad is Garth Brooks!" It's the coolest feeling ever. (x)
Do you have any other famous fans?
I was at the ACM Awards, and Emma Roberts came up to me backstage. She was like, "I just have to let you know, I'm announcing you tonight. And I'm a really big fan." And I was like, "Oh my gosh, I'm going to see your movie this weekend!" It was really cool. She's a sweetheart. (x)
Unlike a lot of other teen celebrities, you have managed to keep out of trouble. How do you resist temptation?
You have to surround yourself with good people who will tell you the things that maybe you don't want to hear -- the things you need to know to not do. I feel like I have an obligation to be responsible. I have a million people who went out and bought my album. Who knows how many of them were young girls? And I always think about the ten year old girl in the front row at my concert before I make a decision. "What would she think if she saw me do this? Would this affect her choices?" (x)
Out of all the milestones you've hit this year -- platinum sales, 8 weeks at No.1 on the country album charts, a CMT award, a CMA nomination -- what's been the highlight of your career?
The highlight of my career so far has been winning the CMT Breakthrough Video of the Year award. It's a fan-voted awards show, so I don't see any greater honor than winning an award that was voted on by fans. It was for my first video that I ever put out ['Tim McGraw'], and I'll never forget the feeling of just running ... bolting up to that stage. It was just the most amazing feeling. (x)

Anime NYC 2023 - I Still Have a Place
Tumblr media
What a weekend.
Anime NYC 2023 just ended and while there were a few things I didn't like, I really enjoyed my time there this year. And more importantly, it was a personal epiphany for me.
I started the weekend by attending the Viz Media panel. There weren't really any significant announcements, but Yoshifumi Tozuka, the creator of Undead Unluck, stopped by and he was great. It was a teaser of his own panel the following day, but Tozuka-sensei did enlighten fans about Undead Unluck and how he wanted to present the series to fans worldwide.
After that, I went to the Autism in the Anime Fan Community panel. This was a live panel version of the "Autism in the Anime Fan Community - Solo Version" video by James Williams, an anime fan diagnosed with autism and a public speaker on autism awareness. James has been doing the panel at various conventions over the past couple of years. It was a very raw and vulnerable panel on the challenges those with autism face at conventions. James also had a special guest, Larissa Grabois, an artist who uses music and art to teach people about children living with autism. She has music videos and books pertaining to autism on her website and I will be paying very close attention. This provided much food for thought.
After that, I didn't stick around for the night panels. Though It was nice to hear Denpa license the ODDTAXI manga as I know people who adored the anime when it came out.
So onto Saturday, I went to the Yen Press panel and was impressed with what they did. They did a fun "Know the Editors" section alongside their announcements, where each editor would promote a title they work on and provide "Useful Nihongo" (which isn't actually useful in a regular context) to use. It was pretty funny to see. Yen Press also gave a shout out to The Summer Hikaru Died, which I yelled "YES!" to. Not many of the new titles they licensed caught my eye, but the one that did was She Likes Gays, But Not Me. I will say this - the manga isn't a romantic comedy and that's why I can't wait for its release in 2024.
Afterwards, I went to the Dark Horse Manga panel. There wasn't really anything new announced per say, but they did promote the latest Deluxe Edition of Berserk and the 1st omnibus of Innocent coming out very soon. Also, Carl Horn and Zack Davisson are truly the manzai duo of the manga industry scene. They have a very fun chemistry that really takes the best of both of their personalities and mixes them into something you really don't see in manga publisher panels. Both also know A LOT about comics in general. If you ever get a chance to see a Dark Horse Manga panel, do it. Carl and Zack really make worth it your while.
I didn't stick around for the later panels on Saturday night, but I know the Kodansha Manga panel that happened that night was great. There's a LOT of fun stuff coming out from them in the future. Blue Lock has become arguably THE big mainstream manga hit of 2023. I love a lot of their titles as their stories are often ones I value highly. What I'm looking forward from them? Home Office Romance (which was REALLY popular in the manga Reddit) and Sheltering Eaves (Another Rie Aruga story? Sign me up).
On Sunday, I only attended the Star Fruit Books panel. I got to learn a lot about the company being there and it was actually a small group of people who attended. So it made for a more intimate experience compared to other industry panels. Even though the publisher started during COVID, they have made huge strides in being an strong publisher of independent manga (alongside Denpa). I actually inquired about them possibly licensing manga stories from indie creators about mental health/illness because I have heard there's a lot of manga out there in Japan that covers those topics.
After that, I was done with everything. I did manage to get some nice items from booths and played mahjong with the Riichi Nomi club.
I think the convention was fine for the most part. It was crowded, but I didn't feel overwhelmed. I always had space to move around. The only things that stood out to me were that some of the panel rooms were a bit too warm to my liking and that the gaming area just felt too tight. In particular, mahjong. My club's presence last year had a good amount of space for mahjong. This year, we were relegated to the show floor and to a far end corner of the convention center. I hope this changes next year.
(Side note: NYC public transit on the weekend continues to suck ass. Why have a train stop right next to the convention center when weekend construction would prevent trains from stopping there? Sigh.)
And speaking of next year, Anime NYC 2024 will happen in the summer - August 23-25, 2024. It's going to be the bang that ends summer convention season in the U.S. after Anime Expo, San Diego Comic-Con and Otakon. There's definitely concerns about the timing, but they will have the FULL convention center at their disposal. I don't mind honestly as I dislike going to a convention when it's happening a month before winter starts.
Anyway, I'm going to finally make a reference to the headline of my post. For those of you who read my birthday post, anime and manga don't seem to inspire me a great deal lately. Getting into mahjong was one of the best things I did for my mental health over the past 2 years. Despite being a manga blogger, I was becoming more of a mahjong addict.
However, when I arrived to the con on Friday, I was greeted by a manga journalist/colleague that I hadn't seen in years. It was a surprise to see them and we caught up. We had a wonderful discussion about manga, comics and pop culture.
And then on Saturday, I got to meet people I followed on Twitter that I never met in person. I even reunited with a few blogger folks along the way. We talked about manga and convention trends that made me smile. I also met up with Anime for Humanity (who I volunteered in the past) and finally met its founder at the event. I even reunited with a local Japanese culture personality that I hadn't talked to in years. It felt really cool.
To cap it off, I finally reunited with Peter Tatara, who was working the Japan Society booth. For those who don't know, he is the founder of Anime NYC and now Director of Film at Japan Society New York. He also has a long and established history of promoting anime in New York. When I first started my foray into anime fandom in 2008, it was Peter who MCed events at the Kinokuniya NYC store that got me hyped. We worked together at those events a few times due to a mutual connection we both shared. Even though he's a huge and very busy personality now, Peter would take the time to talk to me in years past. We both shared laughs and talked about how long we known each other.
Ever since I got so deep into mahjong, I questioned my place in the manga fan community. I wasn't active as much on Twitter as other online manga personalities these last few years. While I do get hyped, I don't get heavily excited covering manga license announcements. I don't have a huge manga collection at home. I struggle to keep up with everything.
And then someone at the con told me that because of my interest in what's happening the world regarding mental health problems that plague communities, I still bring a certain view that's unique and refreshing to hear. After meeting and reuniting with a bunch of faces, I can't leave the manga blogging scene. I just can't. I love talking about manga so much still. Mahjong still has a place in my heart, but there's nothing that gets me going like talking about the stories and characters that shape people's lives.
What's more important is that being around the industry/pros/press folks I was with at Anime NYC tell me that I still have a place here. I may not be attending everything manga-related, but I want to be the person from the shadows who talks about things that definitely deserve to be heard. Besides, it's much cooler doing things in the shadows than being in the spotlight.
An old friend I saw at the convention on Sunday said that I looked the happiest I've been in years. Mahjong definitely played a huge part in that and I want to bring that energy back into my manga blogging.
I've been going to conventions for 15 years now. So many people in my life that I met via conventions have come and gone. People that I wish were still here. I have often felt lonely. Being 41 now also doesn't help either.
And yet, I keep meeting new people at conventions like Anime NYC who inspire me and value my take on things. I may not be living the best life, but I'm definitely happy-ish with what I have now. And that's all I ever wanted to ask for.
Also, thank you to everyone I talked to at Anime NYC. I'm now really ready for the 2nd half of my life.

So, since I decided not to collect any of the reboot dolls*... our collection is complete. We have every doll from series 1 to the runway and body line dolls and shadow high series 3. We have every special edition doll and twin set.
We still intend to try and complete the bags and shoes collection, and attach a second rainbow high dollhouse to the one I own and have assembled to create a deluxe dormhouse like I saw someone do. I also intend to continue collecting ooak dolls, including customs of the shadow high Project Rainbow models in their best outfits.
But... it's wild. I now own a true complete collection of dolls. Of- collectables at all.
I know I don't talk a lot about anything but dolls here, but this is meaningful to me on multiple levels. I am an impoverished disabled person. A victim of neglect and abuse. Even outside of full abuse, I often was forced to give up things important to me growing up before I was ready, which was triply difficult as an autistic and POSIC+ person.
To be at a point where I've had the relative security to have a collection, to not have to sell it even when things got dicey, to have a collection of things I love on display that I know is mine and that no one can take from me... it's everything to me. It makes me feel safe in a way that's hard to articulate or explain to anyone who hasn't been through similar.
I'm going to order some shelves when I can to get them properly explained, since they are now scattered on every available surface lol
But I mean... this is a good feeling. This is my home, and it's full to bursting of the things I love most. These bright, beautiful dolls have helped me fight my depression. Mirny accompanying me to high stress situations has helped with my anxiety. This has been a huge part of my journey in healing from trauma. It has helped us explore our POSIC identity and even recover from the disordered symptoms of our DID.
I'm just... really glad to be able to say my Rainbow High collection is complete. 🥰🥰
.
*(if they do original-quality collector's dolls, I may still get some on a case-by-case basis, but we have no interest in the less articulated, less-fashion-focused, more glittery dolls we've seen so far)
.

My Ghostmate part 5
Ft. Leviathan
Gender-neutral reader insert
Obey me! Monster tales
--------------
More days pass. The practice goes great. It's also thanks to Levi that I can relate better to the character I'm playing.
Our relationship is also getting better with each passing day.
I'm getting used to his slight awkwardness and he doesn't complain over anything.
We also got into the habit of watching anime together every evening. It's quite fun if I'm being honest.
Levi even got me into playing a few video games.
My new life is pretty good, everything considered.
Once again I come home with food.
"I'm home!" I say with a cheerful voice.
"Welcome back." I hear Levi in the living room.
He is playing a new game.
I plop on the sofa next to him. Just casually watch him while I eat.
"Huh?! When did you get home? And do you have to sit so close to me?" Levi is flustered.
"A while ago, and yes I have to sit close to you if I want to read the text on screen." I chuckle and move even closer. I feel like punishing him a bit for not noticing me earlier.
Levi reacts right away by becoming even more flustered and pulls his hood over his head.
In situations like this, I'd love to ruffle his hair but that would probably cause him to vanish.
"S-suit yourself." He barely manages to say this much.
I giggle and move just a bit farther away.
"Oh, actually I have a treat for you. I found my deluxe edition DVD of the Rosen wars. So I figured we can watch it tonight if you want to." Levi puts a box on the table.
"You remember that? Wow, that's very sweet of you!" I give him a big and honest smile.
Levi is very sweet at times.
He blushes. "It's not a big deal. I like the series too."
So we both start the marathon.
It's a 52-episode show and a movie so it's quite a bit to watch.
At some point, I lean back and slowly drift off.
I must've been tired.
Something cold on my shoulder wakes me up.
In my sleep, I somehow ended up leaning on Levi.
"Oh sorry, Levi." I shift away from him and at that moment our eyes meet.
He seems surprised, I'm not sure by what exactly.
Levi gasps and turns half invincible. "Gaahhh!"
This causes me to fall over and right into Levi.
A cold sensation spreads through my body. It's strange, a bit like a cold chill but not uncomfortable.
So this is how it is to be possessed.
A while later I find myself lying on the couch.
I sit up, checking the time reveals that a good hour has passed.
"A-Are you okay?" Levi speaks to me from somewhere across the room. I can't see him at all.
"Yeah, that was wild." I feel somehow giddy. "So you can possess me, that's pretty cool."
I hear a big sigh from Levi.
"You are a weirdo." He sounds like he came closer again.
I shrug. "That makes two of us. Why did it take you so long to leave my body btw?" Now I'm getting curious again.
"T-that w-was the first time I ever…I ever did you know…" Levi stumbles over his words.
I can practically hear him blushing.
"That makes sense." Not that I would know any differently. "So are we going to keep watching or what?"
"Don't you want to kick me out?" Levi is a bit visible now and his cheeks are indeed very red.
"Nope, unless you did something to my body." I shrug.
"I would never!" He sounds offended.
I pat the couch. "I trust you so move your butt here."
Levi gasps again, he looks surprised. "You trust me?"
"Of course, you are my friend after all." I smile at him.
Levi blushes and awkwardly starts the DVD again.
I could tease him a little but I think he had enough embarrassment for one day.
So we just watch the show together.
Living with Levi continues as usual.
Though today is a special day.
"I'm back!" I yell into the house unsure if I get a response. It's about 50\50.
"Welcome home!" Levi is near the door.
"Gee, you almost gave me a heart attack." I'm surprised by him being here.
"Sorry, I was just waiting for you to be home since I have to show you the new game I just got. It's epic!" Levi is so excited it's hard to stay mad at him.
"Awesome, but I have some great news too!" I smile, feeling giddy.
"Don't let me wait, tell me!" Levi is shooting me a smile.
It's always nice to see him just as happy about my news as about his favorite anime dropping new merch.
"We will have our premiere soon! I got a ticket for you." I feel super proud and get the ticket from my pocket.
Levi's eyes shine at the ticket but it only takes him a moment to realize the issue. I can see his disappointment. It makes me sad.
"I know you won't be able to come but when they said we should give them to people we want there I could only think of you." It's a bit embarrassing to admit but true. "So you can have this!" I hold the thicket towards him.
Levi looks troubled. "Are you sure? You could invite a family member or friend? Giving it to me is useless."
"That's not true you helped me a lot with your knowledge and practice. I'm sure you know my dialogue in your sleep by now." I chuckle. "Besides, you can keep it for the collector's value. I mean once I'm famous this will be highly sought after." I smile confidently.
Levi blushes, he seems unsure how to respond but then he reaches his hand out and takes the ticket. "Thank you, I will treasure it." He still looks troubled but doesn't say anything else about it.
"Didn't you have a game to show to me?" I decide it's best to dispel the slightly uneasy atmosphere with a topic change.
"Oh, yeah I almost forgot. You see, this game is about Poseidon building an underwater city. It's so wild." Levi is already on his way and keeps talking about it in great detail.
His delighted ramblings are always the best thing about his latest addiction. It always makes my heart feel warm when Levi is like this.
I watch him play his newest game, which is truly something to behold. At least it distracts me from feeling nervous about my performance.

today's been a day. i have so many thoughts about ttpd and this new era that i need to get out of my head. i thought i would share them with you. feel free to leave your own thoughts and theories.
🤍
let's talk about the cover. black and white but in a washed out way. does it remind you of something? maybe reputation's cover. black and white. but a more intense kind of black and white. some people forget that reputation was the first album in which Taylor told us she was falling in love with him. now, with ttpd, that love is being washed out. disappearing.
reputation's color is black. Taylor has officially choose the white heart for ttpd. white is the opposite of black. black and reputation were about being in love. white and ttpd are about being out of love.
the cover is made of a white square and in its center we can see Taylor. it's like a polaroid. like a 1989 polaroid. we cannot see Taylor's eyes. in the 1989's cover we couldn't see Taylor's eyes either. she was a mysterious girl talking about a breakup. now she's a mysterious woman talking about a breakup.
after the release of You're Losing Me we all realised that a few songs on Midnights could have a different interpretation. one about a breakup. it would made sense that ttpd continued that storyline.
specially when Taylor appears on the Grammys wearing a white dress that looks like a wedding dress. 'i wouldn't marry me either' is what she sings on You're Losing Me. on Midnights.
i'm not saying that Midnights and The Tortured Poets Department are sisters like folklore and evermore. i think Midnights is a different concept but some of its songs, especially the ones from the 3am edition (You're Losing Me, The Great War and Dear Reader) could all be connected through the same theme: coming to the realisation that the love that you shared with someone is no longer there. ttpd could be a continuation of that theme that was shared on Midnights.
Taylor is literally refering to us as her readers. and now she is the tortured poet. we're going to read her tortured poems.
and now we go back to folklore. to the lakes. 'take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die, i don't belong, and my beloved neither do you'. her and her beloved are the tortured poets that don't belong to society. they belong to the lake. they felt connected through the art of writing, especially sad songs. they are the poets. we're entering these poets' house. we're going to discover what these poets really felt.
'on the way home i wrote a poem, you say what a mind, this happens all the time'. i rest my case.
going back to Grammys night, Lana and Jack were wearing black. Taylor was wearing black gloves and there was black in her accesories too. i'm sure ttpd is going to sound a lot like Midnights and a lot like Jack Antonoff. and maybe there is going to be a collaboration with Lana Del Rey? i could see that. there's black in the mostly white cover. in this case black complements white, as Jack and Lana were doing with Taylor on the Grammys.
in the spanish store the four editions of the album (standard CD, deluxe CD, vinyl and cassette) are under the name of "white ghost" which makes me think there's going to be different editions of the album.
but why white ghost? is this tortured poet dead? as she says in the post in which she announces the album: 'my muses, acquired like bruises (...) my veins of pitch black ink (...) all's fair in love and poetry'. the thing that inspires this poet the most is the thing that makes her suffer. the love she has lost is what has allowed her to create this collection of songs that feel like poems.
'and so i enter into evidence'. the poet is going to guide us through something that we thought we knew. she's going to show us the evidence. there's the public perception of what happened and the there's the truth. she's going to tell her truth.
'my tarnished coat of arms'. she has protected herself from everything that can hurt her but by showing us these songs she's going to show herself in the most vulnerable way.
she's The Chairman of The Tortured Poets. she's telling the story.
the first era of her music ended with Midnights, hence The Eras Tour. that's why i don't think she'll add this new album to The Eras Tour setlist. maybe as the surprise songs. now we're entering a new era which i think is going to sound more mature, in the line of what we've been hearing these lasts few years. and i'm almost sure she'll go back to country during this new era. i just know.
all of these are just thoughts. it's fun. i'm so excited. the photoshoots, the visuals, the promo, the street looks... i want everything!! how do you think she's going to announce the track list?? how will the sound be?? there were so many obvious clues right in front of us from years ago until now that we never noticed. i'm sure she's working on TS12 right now. being a swiftie is the best decision i've ever made.

Flaming Pie (Deluxe Edition) Paul McCartney (Capitol) (reissue released in 2020; original album released in 1997)
Greed is a terrible thing. Rather than get the other McCartney reissue I was enjoying (see my last post concerning Wings' Wild Life) which would have been Red Rose Speedway, I instead opted to pick up this triple album for free. Normally it costs something ridiculous ($60 or more I believe) but Sound of Vinyl offered it for free with eight bucks and change for postage (nevermind it is much, much heavier than Wild Life was and Wild Life cost $10 to ship). Somehow this bargain made me ignore Red Rose Speedway (another double Deluxe Edition) and it made me ignore the double Richard Thompson album (Guitar, Vocals). Here's the problem with me buying Flaming Pie: I have the double CD Deluxe Edition of the album and I've yet to play it. I probably haven't even opened it. Matter of fact, I've never even heard Flaming Pie! And furthermore, I don't much care to ever hear it. Oh sure, I've heard some of the songs, whatever popular tracks that infiltrate McCartney comps, but they never make an impression, certainly not enough to convince me to rush out and hear in it's entirety. Mrs Echo owns Flaming Pie, she bought it back when it wasn't a sin to buy secular music and she played it endlessly (she only played it in her art studio down in the basement). For the record: the last new McCartney album I bought was Off The Ground (and I bought it on vinyl) and I hated it (Biker Like An Icon, anyone?) and I swore I was done with Macca (like a fool I traded the original vinyl, which if you've seen the price of it today, well, you know what it costs). So my buying a triple '90s album by the fabled bass player just because it was free was actually a terrible trade off when I could be grooving to the multiple versions of Mary Had A Little Lamb on the bonus album of the Red Rose Speedway Deluxe Edition. And for the record, I might be the only human in existence who really, really likes Mary Had A Little Lamb. Heavens knows most all the members of Wings whose last name wasn't the same as Macca's hated it.
The first two photos above are of the slipcover that contains the double album proper and a single album titled Paul's Home Demos. Below is the cover, gatefold and the back of the actual Flaming Pie album.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you look at the gatefold photo you will see at the top of the photo of "me and Jeff" (Christ, Jeff Lynne is involved?) a Target receipt. I didn't see this until I shot another album gatefold (which was Wings' Wild Life) and if you go to that entry, you will see that yes, I did take the time to pick up the trash near the fence line. I'm not one of those people who let trash blow around in my yard. I grew up with Please Don't Litter public announcements routinely on television and they made an impression.
Below are the photos of record labels for this double album. They might be overkill since all of them follow the same format, but I religiously post my record labels and I will do so for this album.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a triple album and as I mentioned, the second album is titled (on the spine at least) Paul's Home Recordings and it comes in its own album cover. You can see that cover and the back of it in the next two photos.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I may carp about having bought this, but it is a very nice presentation. The album covers of Flaming Pie and the home records are both textured and very high quality. The home recording album has its own special inner sleeve, not unlike what Wild Life had. Only, obviously as you will see below, it is not yellow.
Tumblr media
Here are shots of both sides of the record label for this bonus album.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since this a Deluxe Reissue it includes a booklet. Below are shots of the front and back. I'm guessing the cover is a painting by Macca himself. I really like this cover.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It also comes with a letter on heavy card stock. Check it out below.
Tumblr media
On the spine of the box is sort of like an obi which contains the track listing for all six sides of the albums. I had completely forgotten to shoot a photo of it until the last moment, so I'll stick it at the very end of this entry.
Tumblr media
I need to mention the many thoughts about this Sound of Vinyl sale where albums were free for the taking if you just paid the shipping charges. Many people on the Hoffman Boards suspected these would be rejects that were damaged and that explained why they were free. Some seemed to delight in thinking we were all being taken for a ride with this sale. I'm not sure where that thinking emanates from, but it didn't make much sense to me. Many members on that site assured others that they were long time buyers from Sound of Vinyl (which is evidently an affiliate of Universal Music) and no such thing would happen. The sale was legit, we were all reassured, some just wanted to rain on this crazy parade.
And lastly, let me add, I'm sure this is a fine album. It is repeatedly hailed as a great Macca album and my carping aside, I'm sure I'll be happy I dropped ten bucks to give this a whirl on my turntable, Jeff Lynne's involvement or otherwise.

2 January 2023: What’s Going On, Marvin Gaye (2021 Tamla/Universal reissue of 1971 Tamla release)
With this post, I sadly skip past roughly 200 albums purchased between August and December of 2022 so that I can be timely again. There were many cool things I looked forward to discussing here, but I’d be forever stuck playing catch-up if I didn’t just start anew.
When I went to Target on the final day of my winter vacation, I had no intention of buying albums, but when I saw that the two dozen copies of their exclusive edition of What’s Going On were on clearance for $12.99 there was no question that I’d be taking one home. I’ve only ever owned this album on CD, and I can be a sucker for these special editions.
Above you see the front cover, hype sticker, and back cover. Per the sticker, this is a 50th anniversary reissue. It’s just a straight reissue of the original album, no bonus tracks included. Sometimes I just want the straight album, and this fits the bill.
Below is the clearance tag. Target’s music selection at this point, at least in my neighborhood store, has been winnowed down extensively. When I bought this, there were maybe three other titles available, not counting the enormous super-deluxe box of Guns ‘n’ Roses’ Use Your Illusion. That didn’t have a price tag, but I’d wager it had to be over $200, and of course it was just out on the shelf amidst all the other merchandise, and was already getting damaged. Why Marvin Gaye was on clearance is unknown to me. I went again yesterday to buy hand lotion, and stopped back by the media department. I thought I might buy my brother a copy of this. People have been snapping it up, because after seeing two dozen copies a couple of weeks ago only three copies remain and they were all damaged with extensively bent corners.
Tumblr media
Here is the opened gatefold. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen this at its full size. That photo collage is familiar, though, and I think I’ve seen it reproduced much smaller in a CD booklet.
Tumblr media
This edition includes a large poster of the front album cover, measuring nearly 30″ x 30″. I have to present it folded just to fit it on the ironing board.
Tumblr media
Here is side one’s label, followed by a shot of the translucent green wax.

Leave it to Anitta and Maluma to heat up an already sweltering Friday. The pair team up here for “El Que Espera,” an ultra sensual reggaetón track which marks their first collaboration. The song’s video, directed by Mike Ho and shot in Ibiza, is just as steamy. It finds the Brazilian star and Colombian hitmaker getting up close and personal on the set of their film, where they play the leading roles. The new collab comes on the heels of Anitta’s deluxe edition of her latest album, Versions of Me, which she will be releasing a new music video from each week in anticipation of the deluxe reissue. — GRISELDA FLORES
Santa Fe Klan, Mundo (Cuatro Siete Tres Music)
Santa Fe Klan has released his fifth studio album Mundo, home to 12 tracks that best represent his battles and successes in life, resulting in an ultra-personal project. Honoring the album’s title, he welcomes fans into his world, kicking off with “Mar y Tierra,” a powerful love song that can be for someone else or oneself. “I cried and cried, walked and walked, and looked for you by sea and land but finally I found you/ I had been lonely for a long time and I got tired of walking aimlessly/ I will no longer return to the path where one day I stumbled/ I will take care of you in the good times and the bad,” he chants in the track.
The Mexican rapper continues with the previously released honest letters “Eres” and “Lukas,” the former dedicated to his late mother and the latter to his newborn son. For the most part, Mundo is accompanied by weeping guitar riffs, hip-hop undertones, and vulnerable lyricism, as heard in “Triste Realidad” with Jacky Jacky, AXS Axel Santos, the reflective “Demasiado Tarde,” and the Reik-assisted “Llévame,” a soulful R&B song about facing the world with your partner in crime.
“This year has been a whirlwind for me to say the least,” the Guanajuato-born artist, who won the 2022 Premios Juventud for new Regional Mexican artist, says in a statement. “It’s such an indescribable feeling to see years of hard work pay off. This album has a very special place in my heart because of everything that has happened to me personally and professionally. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created with ‘Mundo’ and I’m thrilled to finally share it with everyone.” Mundo also includes collaborations Tornillo from Mexico and Colombian-born rapper Nanpa Básico before wrapping up with the emotionally charged acoustic number “Se Acabó.” — JESSICA ROIZ

Danna Paola explores self-liberation in her new pop anthem “XT4S1S.” The euphoric beat serves as a canvas for her lyrics on feeling happy and invincible, and generally experiencing intense emotions. The track was written and produced by Danna Paola and Alex Hoyer. “This release is the sincerest of my career — for the first time, I’m not guided by what people will say, nor by pleasing anyone,” the Mexican singer-songwriter says in a statement. “I’m just enjoying connecting with myself when creating music, to enjoy with the people who want to connect. Today I live my music at 1000 percent.” — G.F.

Chesca has her eyes set on the new generation of artists and for her new single, she recruits Puerto Rican newcomer Alejo. Produced by Yung Cado, “Piensas en Mi” is a sultry reggaetón where two people go back and forth on the status of their relationship. Chesca kicks off the track assuring that she doesn’t care if she behaves bad and goes out with her friends because she’s over him. On his verse, Alejo replies that they are only friends because he got rid of the benefits. But as much they play hard to get, the one common denominator is that they can’t stop thinking about each other: “You’re thinking of me, I can tell, you think I can’t notice, you’re crazy for me,” goes the flirtatious chorus. The pair also flaunt their on-screen chemistry in the music video. — J.R.

When Mexican cumbia royalty meets Colombian music royalty, a cumbia del corazón (cumbia from the heart) is born. This new single brings the best flavors of both worlds, a perfect fusion of music institutions that mix Vives’ high energy vocals with the traditional sound that represents Los Angeles Azules. Penned by Joss Favela and produced by Rodolfo Lugo and Jorge Mejía Avante, the lyrics to this beautifully blended cumbia narrates how a sensual cumbia should be danced. “And let me gently cling to your waist. How about we do something crazy? And we wake up in the cumbión,” Vives sings. — INGRID FAJARDO

Frequent collaborators, Nanpa and Gera MX, “Lejos De Ti” solidifies their reach in the rap scene with this track that is powered by melodies and poignant lyrics. The somber song is led by melancholic acoustic guitars fused with folk and regional influences. Meanwhile, the track’s lyrics dives deep into complex relationships that will inevitably reach an end. “Lejos De Ti” previews Nanpa’s forthcoming studio album, which is due in September. — G.F.

Overcomer: Deluxe Edition is the latest accomplishment in Tamela’s storied career. An accomplished songwriter, producer, actress, and businesswoman, Tamela has amassed a Grammy Award, BET Award, Billboard Music Award, and multiple NAACP Image Awards and Stellar Gospel Music Awards. Her Billboard No. 1 album Best Days garnered three consecutive No. 1 singles including the No. 1 platinum single “Take Me to The King” and received Billboard’s “Album of the Decade” for 2010-2019, in the Gospel category. Tamela’s Billboard No. 1 album, One Way, garnered two No. 1 singles, including “Change Me” and “God Provides,” which earned the singer her first Grammy Award in 2017. In 2018, Tamela and her husband, NAACP Image Award winning actor David Mann, released their first book and joint album, Us Against the World. The book won an NAACP Image®Award for Outstanding Literary Work and the album continues to garner top-charting singles including the Urban AC track, “Ups & Downs.” Tamela and David together helm Tillymann Entertainment.
