Y’all remembered this au right?
Detective Nene and phantom thief Hanako.
Hanako’s ultimate goal was to steal the moon,
Tumblr media
I’m pretty sure this was a foreshadowing of yorishiro Tsukasa.
Because Tsukasa is associated with the moon right, his name kanji means moon and everything.
And later on in the chapters it’s revealed that Tsukasa is Hanako’s yorishiro.
‘Stealing the moon’ is probably related to the whole yorishiro thing. At least I think it is.
Amane/Hanako’s obsessed with the moon, and since Tsukasa is associated with the moon, that’s similar to his excessive attachment to Tsukasa.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But I wonder why it was said to be his ultimate goal. Is his ultimate goal in the manga have something to do with Tsukasa?
I wanna know what Hanako’s ultimate goal/plan/wish is soon.

Tumblr media
“She means a fantasy world, like Neverland, or perhaps even heaven, some other place away from reality where dreams come true.”
“The most prevalent theme of the song is escapism: to leave current circumstances and go somewhere with more opportunities, where those "dreams that you dare to dream" can come true.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Escapism, associated with Tsukasa?
Iro wouldn’t give him the role of Dorothy without purpose.
But why didn’t Iro give Nene the role of Dorothy? She’s dreams all the time, she’s a hopeless romantic.
She got the tornado.
That tornado that wisp Dorothy away into the fantasy world, where she finds hope that her dreams can come true…
Hm.. Interesting. Nene as the one taking Dorothy, aka Tsukasa, to the better place. Showing him a better place….
Wish granting, maybe..?
Or, are they both Dorothy, but Nene is just a bit unlucky to not get the world she wants?

Seeing Akane reacts so strongly seeing Kako being destroyed was already a big shot at my heart but Mirai and Akane protecting each other absolutely annihilated me in the last chapter.
Akane is a character who is really blunt about his opinion and stands his ground, he said right away in his introduction chapter how strongly he hates the clock keepers, and insists on how much he isn't like them.
Tumblr media
In this new arc, he is forced to face this part of him he doesn't want to acknowledge since the beginning, he has been forced to do it a lot since the grim reaper arc (and I think it's really starting to get to him but this is for another day)
Aoi Akane, the human forced to be a supernatural who hates his contract and the clock keepers so much he wants nothing to do with them. But what does he do when fighting Tsukasa? He keeps the latter's attention on him so the threat can't get to Mirai.
Tumblr media
Akane is mortal and human. The only mortal clock keepers and supernatural, and he still risks his life to protect Mirai. The yorishiro of the clock keepers yes, but mostly Mirai.
He shifts his attention from Tsukasa to her because he knows what she represents for the clock keepers and he waits for the moment to let her free, even if it results in him getting hurt.
Tumblr media
Akane is the character of the cast who shows the most how he loves life, he definitely doesn't want to die. We can see it in how he defends himself, his last movement in this fight being one of protection (and fear). Something he has been doing more since coming back a second time from the far shore. Even if he doesn't want to die, he is still at his core a nice person. He is distressed at the idea of death, disappearing for good, no matter who it may concern in the end. Finding a way to protect Mirai (and the yorishiro) goes before his own safety.
Tumblr media
And then Mirai gets the blow for him. She knows it means Tsukasa will get the yorishiro. Kako has been the mystery the most alarmed about the yorishiros being destroyed by Hanako. But Mirai, n°1, who knows how dangerous it is for another yorishiro to be destroyed for the land, sacrifices their seat number, herself and what is supposely the most important thing to them, for Akane.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Akane is a proactive character who rarely stops in his actions. Even when Aoi was "dead" he was activaly searching for a way to bring her back and when he learned she was gone he was quick to try to find a way to go where she was. When he stops, it's because he is physically unable to move. But here, even if he is still concsious and has Time's power he doesn't do anything, like he is the one being stopped in time, unable to move on from Mirai's body.
Tumblr media
Mirai may be made of gears but it's been clear since the beginning that she has a real attachement to Akane. Wearing the name he gave her like a medal, jumping on him whenever she can, having a personality where she clearly has fun when he is present, and actually being the one noticing him on his first day at school.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And what does it mean after all for a yorishiro to be sacrified to protect something else? That maybe Akane is in the end more important than what the yorishiro represents for the clock keepers.
If this follows the pattern of a lot of mysteries it may mean that Mirai and Kako have strong regrets/resentment towards the story/person behind their yorishiro.
It's kind of beautiful in the end to see Mirai sacrifiying their past and future to focus on the one representing the present.

Let's talk about Akane's overprotection of Aoi and the dangers of not properly setting up a narrative tone.
We are told that Akane stalks Aoi because guys have been trying to force her into a relationship for years, so he protects her by beating up anyone who approaches. Nene and Kou are understandably horrified by this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But in the very next page, Aidairo hit us with this tone switch:
Tumblr media
What Akane is saying is contradictory to the violent and possessive narrative that was shown during his introduction, to this yandere role he played the entire chapter, but the manga is trying to convey that we should take him seriously here. Even the lighting and composition are the ones used when characters are vulnerable and Aidairo wants to show that what they feel is real.
Tumblr media
It's strange...
Being possessive is never framed as something that leaves other characters in awe, just compare Akane's melancholic and peaceful gaze to the creepy tone used when Kou and Hanako have their "you are possessive" moment.
Tumblr media
Both Kou and Hanako hate that part of themselves, Kou even rejects it, but it's still clear the rejection doesn't make him any less possessive. Both want to be dependable, they want to be the only choice, no one else is acceptable. It's a selfish feeling. Being 'the most important person' is more important than the joy of the person they want to help (Kou's wish is Mitsuba needing him, instead of Mitsuba happy as a human. Hanako wants to be the one to save Nene, the idea of Nene being saved by someone else does not satisfy him even if it would make her happy and safe)
So this isn't a "Akane is lying to himself" or a "he is delusional" case.
The narrative, which had presented Akane as someone violent and obsessive, wants us to believe his claim "I will protect Ao-chan... Even if she never looks my way" is not only what Akane believes to be true, but also something admirable. A sentiment Nene craves directed her way, claiming to be 'a little jealous' of Aoi, despite calling Akane scary a single page ago.
Let's rewind to see how we got here.
Akane and Aoi's stories suffer from being mostly given to us in gags for a good chunk of the manga, as they are not very relevant in the early arcs, but the crumbs come together after their confrontation in chapter 69.
Why is Akane stalking Aoi? Because he worries about her. Not about someone stealing her necessarily, but about her being hurt or forced into situations she is uncomfortable with.
They are very codependent. They have been for years.
We can see Akane being shocked at the sight of people bullying Aoi since they were kids, it isn't just 'boys who want to date her' that makes her uncomfortable. Jealous girls do too.
Tumblr media
Even when Aoi is left alone, using clothes completely out of her cutesy style to attract less attention, and just living her life, she is still harassed.
Tumblr media
Aoi's life is a nightmare, it straight up sucks. She hates that, and when Akane notices this discomfort, he hates that too.
He is far more protective than possessive, he doesn't care when people are touchy with Aoi as long as she welcomes the touch: Take Nene as an example.
Akane never touches Aoi at the start of the manga but Nene does, a lot. He never think "Nene is touching my Ao-chan! Unforguivable". "Maybe Ao-chan likes Nene more than me is not far!" or anything of sorts
Even when Aidairo uses the same over-the-top/creepy gag humor I personally find excessive, and Aoi straight up flirts with Nene, Akane's only thoughts about it are the usual "I love her so much"
Tumblr media
When he does show dislike for Nene it's never because she is of value to Aoi. It's because of how dismissive Nene can be, not taking Aoi's safety seriously and easily excusing Hanako's actions.
Tumblr media
We only see him be aggressive with Nene when Hanako possesses her and makes Aoi uncomfortable.
Tumblr media
The problem here is the framing, the comedy focus. It's hard to take it seriously.
Everything about Akane's intro chapter is hard to take seriously. We are told he is "Hard working. Reliable. What a nice and sweet person."
Tumblr media
But we aren't shown these honorable qualities much, not explicitly at least. The big panels, the main focus, is on his gag.
And his main joke is that he loves excessively, even for this school standard where everyone is weird (like Nene writing a self-ship fanfic with Teru) so he needs to be over the top, his behavior has to stand out!
How do they try to achieve this? Yandere jokes.
Tumblr media
It is overplayed, they spend pages on it. WHOLE PAGES on it.
Tumblr media
It is an old narrative trick to present a twist character as a comic relief to lower suspicion, to keep the more important characterization for after a reveal when they are oficially important, but framing all his actions as comedic and devoid of dept to make his reveal as No.1 more unexpected leaves him in a strange position: Akane is intended to be written as a protector but framed as a joke, to the point his introduction become the satire of a protector.
When he is revealed as the clock keeper and allowed to be given more focus, Aidairo try to explain his behavior and show signs of him being a genuinely caring and kind person, as the first part of his intro had promised.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But it's to late.
His crazy actions and anger issues is in most people's minds, a few lines can't erase pages and pages of his introduction as a yandere like archetype, so it's easy for first impression bias to come into play and interpret all his actions as a simple "He is obsessive." instead of trying to find dept or nuance to the established dependence he has on Aoi.
When we are shown that above wanting to date her, he just wants her to be safe and happy, it does not become clear. The reader needs to pay a lot of attention to small moments like these:
Tumblr media
Which a casual reader likely won't. Most are reading for the toilet trio at this point in the manga.
This fumble on his character introduction makes it hard to know what should and shouldn't be taken seriously. Aidairo discarded the yandere narrative relatively quick (we haven't seen Akane's bat in ages) but this gag about being happy as long as Aoi is happy turned out to be important:
Tumblr media
It was used to further contrast Aoi's and Akane's mentality on their big arc, and highlight how much nearly losing Aoi affected him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So the only way we can tell what joke to take seriously cause it will be used to build up his character and what isn't important is hindsight.
I did not care about Aoi and Akane's relationship when I first read the manga, i went 'oh cool!' on their conflict, cause that was very well done, but since their characters were not well introduced, I did not notice a lot of the ideas being shown to me.
Akane is a sweet boy. That's his core, his consistency. Even with Aoi, being kind is the priority over being with her.
Let's compare him with Hanako, who is an openly possessive character, and see how they approach their love interests when they don't know if their love interest likes them back yet, and they aren't reduced to a gag (so we'll dismiss Akane being 'a yandere with a bat', and Hanako's joke of him being a tactless pervert, like peaking under Nene's skirt when her time was frozen)
(so pre-chapter 86 to Hanako and pre-chap 69 to Akane)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hanako traps Nene, he will cling to her anytime he can, he cares about Nene and loves her dearly, he even says he "loves everything about her" but he is greedy for her attention, he is selfish, always trying to make her focus on him out of everyone in the room and keeping her in his hold, out of others reach. His unsubtle possessive nature is a charm of his, makes for an interesting character.
Akane has a different vibe to it. He doesn't have many serious moments with Aoi before their spotlight arc, unfortunately, but when he does, he focuses on reassuring her (even when her time is frozen and she can't hear him) and avoids touching her at best he can. He has known her for more than 10 years, but he doesn't act as if she belongs to him.
I am not saying Akane is not possessive of her, he is. But he tends to be more worried about her than anything.
Using hanako as the trademark of possessiveness again, check out these two scenes:
Tumblr media
At the start of the manga Kou likes Nene, and Akane is under the impression Teru like Aoi, so both scenes follow the basic premise of "A know B has a crush on their crush, and they get possessive over a possible romantic rival being too close."
Hanako doesn't say anything, but his message is clear "She is mine."
Akane explicitly says he doesn't like Teru near Aoi but he doesn't try to remove Aoi from Teru or try to do anything violent. Why would he? Aoi is in no danger, nor is she uncomfortable, so he changes focus to the person who is troubled, awkwardly reassuring Teru that his distress is, in his personal opinion, stupid, so "chill bro".
He wasn't like that with Teru before.
He was so determined to stop the wedding he even rejected hanging out with Aoi, crying tears of blood and asking for her forgiveness in his mind but prioritizing not making her get together with Teru above her joy.
Tumblr media
Is that because of his development? Yes! A big part is. Notice the way he treats his mental image as reality? That was his biggest flaw, he imposed his views on Aoi (the view being "everyone is stupid in love with Teru" in this case), and assumed what he believes is a universal truth, doing exactly what Aoi accused him of: Not seeing her, just an idea of her.
But the reason he went so crazy and determined, it's because Akane saw Teru as someone dangerous. Someone who would use Aoi. Hurt her. He believes he is protecting Aoi from the big bad president. A view that makes sense when we take into consideration both Aoi's history of being forced into relationships, and when we go back to their interaction.
Look at this and tell me this isn't a threat:
Tumblr media
Teru acts as if he barely remembers her name, she is just 'that cute girl', mostly a tool for him to use against Akane.
When his view of Teru changes to someone kinder who genuinely cares about Aoi as a person, he no longer enters protective mode.
Tumblr media
He is still bothered about the idea of Aoi being with someone else, he does noooot look pleased even with his fairy tale vision of a happy couple, but the way he treats this possible 'rivalry of love' when he does believe Teru loves her is so different from his "Don't get close to her!! I will NOT allow it!!" approach.
There is no insecure overthinking. No aggression. He is playful about it. He even teases Teru.
Tumblr media
He just wants to focus on rescuing Aoi. A 'rivalry' isn't important. He needs her to be safe.
These two parts of Akane have been juggling for a long while.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But now, character focus is the priority, and I am thankful the damage is being undone, that Aidairo let Akane's love take up whole pages instead of small panels buried under pages of jokes.
Tumblr media
Their codependence, no matter how many issues it has, and how it can sabotage them, is based on so much care for each other.
It's a shame I only believe Akane was sincere when he said he'll always be there to protect Aoi regardless if he 'gets to be with her', because of what we see later in the manga, not because of what had been set up in his intro.

TBHK and shape language
The designs in TBHK are actually so damn good and I need to rant about it SO BUCKLE UP
First of, for those who don't know, "shape language is a concept used in art and animation to communicate meaning based on shapes we are familiar with. When used in a character, object, and background design, shapes can tell a story, show personality, and illicit an emotional response in the viewer without using any words."
Here's the three shapes that are mostly used as examples when talking about shape language:
Circle: soft, squishy, harmless, approachable, changeable
Square: solid, sturdy, strong, supportive, reliable, inflexible
Triangle: sharp, directional, dynamic, dangerous, unpredictable
Let's see how that applies to the character designs in TBHK:
Hanako:
Tumblr media
Hanako is a square character, based on his stance, seal, and overall symmetry of his gakuran, and penny loafers. He has some circles sprinkled in here and there in his design, like his round eyes, the buttons of the gakuran and cap along with the emblem and hitodamas. Square characters are usually the heroes, they have the physique for fighting and that "rigidity" shows strength. On top of this, the circles in his design are meant to make him look unthreatening, harmless, child-like even (that last part is with his eyes). Subconsciously, we feel safe with Hanako and we immediately register him as a protagonist.
This is proven by how Nene behaves around him. Initially, she's scared when she meets him for the "first time" but very easily warms up to him to the point she isn't scared to yell at him and later on become friends with him. We are not meant to register Hanako as a possible threat until Kou shows up and forces him to come clean about what he's done while he was alive. His square features are meant to establish him as a strong, orderly and restrained character. His seal, a "square feature" is already a proof of that since we know he's different without it.
Amane:
Trust me it's different. I'm a firm believer of "Amane and Hanako are the same character but at slightly different stages of existence" but there is a difference between their designs and shape language
Tumblr media
Amane is still a square character but instead of circle features here and there, he has triangles (his collar + the bandage on his cheek has a few triangles because of the tape despite being a square). Amane doesn't embody the square attributes the same way Hanako does. Amane is inflexible, stubborn and sturdy. The triangles in his design are here to add onto that inflexibility to show his hostility and unpredictability. Amane and Hanako are the same but Amane snapped, finally cracking under the weight of everything he had to endure, and Hanako "lives" with the regret that came from that. Hanako's square features represent the restraint he shows in fear of messing up again. All his triangle features are gone, he is still unpredictable and "dangerous" but differently since he tries to keep it in check in front of Tsukasa and puts up a front in front of people he doesn't quite trust.
Tsukasa:
Tumblr media
Tsukasa is a triangle character, look at the way the bottom of his hakama is wider than the top half of his body, giving his entire character a triangle shape which is mostly reserved only for villains/antagonists. We see that shape in his fangs, the collar of the white under-shirt and the V shape of the black, upper half of the hakama. Tsukasa can instantly change the atmosphere of a scene with his presence alone, not only because we know what he's capable of but because his entire design makes anyone go "...That's a villain isn't it?". The circles in his design offer room for doubt since they are also there for a false sense of security, much like his brother. Still, his eyes give off a different feeling than Hanako's because of the pupil placement and his tsueshiros are black which means at first glance, you can tell who is the "evil twin"
Nene:
Tumblr media
She's a circle character. Barely any sharp edges, oval shape with the overall body, everything about her makes you think "cute, soft, harmless, squishy". Because of how she is designed, we subconsciously trust her and by extension, most of her decision making (depends), like deciding to be friends with Hanako. She isn't scared of him, so we, the reader aren't; she wants to be friends with him so we fully let our guard down. Because of this trust, we also are happily surprised whenever Nene does something impressive, since she looks harmless (example, Hanako and Yako's reaction to her jumping over the dolls and successfully destroying her first Yorishiro). We also feel more drawn to her, we feel bad for her when she's struggling, her happiness is contagious and we root for her. She's a likable character through her design alone.
Kou:
Tumblr media
A triangle character. His stance with his feet apart makes his body adopt a triangular shape. His spirit staff, his fangs, hair and eye shape are all triangular. Triangles don't always mean something/someone is bad, it can allude to its strength. Kou's unpredictability comes from the fact his loyalty can shift, he is stronger than we think, and he starts out as an antagonist since we see that he can hurt Hanako if he tries and actually wishes to harm him, a protagonist. Kou's strength is a big part of his character. He is still on a journey to understand he is strong in his own way and not like his brother, but he's unique from the other characters thanks to his determination, strong will and pure resilience that made him win a fight bare-handed against a whole ass demon. Hanako and Nene both saw his strength and acknowledge it by trusting and relying on him whenever they can, and because those two trust Kou, so do we.
Teru:
Tumblr media
Teru is a square character! Surprised me, but nope, it's accurate. Teru carries himself in such a way that radiates poise, leadership, reliability, inflexibility, and we see a glimpse of his strength through that. + His president armband shows that too. Teru does have similar triangle features as Kou, like his hair, and eyes but it's different. Teru doesn't have fangs, his hair is less spiky than Kou's, and all of that is because his whole design is supposed to mislead us. I, and I'm sure a lot of other readers, had a "wait what the fuck-" moment when we saw Teru becoming an important character. With his lack of triangle features, his unpredictability is hidden. He plays the role of a normal high school student, and the twist is that his character doesn't end there. This also highlights again how his strength is different than Kou's.
.
Well this was fun! Before I end this post, let me remind everyone that this is not only my personal interpretation, but shape language isn't always 100% accurate/isn't as literal as some might think. Triangle shapes aren't always villains or signify something bad, squares can mean multiple things, it's complex! The point of that concept is to play around with it to your advantage as an artist which I recommend doing. I hope you enjoyed this, feel free to share your own thoughts too.

MAJOR HANAKO-KUN MANGA SPOILERS
So, if I’m not mistaken, Kou seemed really enthusiastic to become Mitsuba’s friend in the beginning and made sure that he knew that it was okay to be himself and such. He obviously cares about him a lot and he even offered to kill himself so that he could understand Mitsuba’s problems and be with him forever but, and maybe I’m misremembering, but I feel like Kou’s starting to become dismissive of his relationship with Mitsuba, denying it’s there and lying to others about it, especially after the red house arc. He still deeply cares about him, that much is obvious, but he seems to deny being friends with Mitsuba? When they go on their “date”, he mentions to Nene that he’s hanging out with an “acquaintance” and lies when Mitsuba asks if he’d be lonely without him. Usually this would be their standard banter but it was a very raw moment, full of emotion and I can’t help but feel like Kou would have at least said some short answer truthfully, even just a small “maybe” or even responded with silence but instead he lies after a long pause as if he’s contemplating something. It doesn’t feel like the earnest Kou we came to know and love.
If this is in fact what is happening and I’m not just making it up, I have two theories:
Kou has lost Mitsuba so many times that he’s trying to protect himself from hurt or, my favorite theory,
Kou, somewhere along the way, realized his deep emotions for the boy, probably romantic love, and hates the fact. He’s trying to make it not true, trying to distance himself. Recently, more people have been making comments that make him and Mitsuba seem like a couple, child Tsukasa even asking directly if they were dating and I think it’s freaking him out a bit. He doesn’t know what to do with himself.
That’s what I think at least. I hope he can work whatever he’s going through out.

Tsuchigomori's bookstacks
one thing that came to mind is Tsuchigomori and how his books work, what I was thinking was how Tsuchigomori has read Nene's book and knows she dies...
Tumblr media
it's only natural to assume he's read all her book considering that's Hanako's assistant and he must have reached the end to see she dies or at least her red page of sorts and especially seeing him with her book when he was wanting secrets, but with the whole reveal of "when all the Yorishiros are destroyed Nene will die"
Tumblr media
and the plot of the world possibly ending if the seven mysteries are taken down, he gave up his Yorishiro willingly, I know we had all the interference with him wanting secrets but he said he'd give either way
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he was the only School mystery to give it up so easily?
I also think it's really interesting with how he acted when she was talking about whether she should go take down the Clock keepers Yorishiro, he was quiet and just patted her on the head
Tumblr media Tumblr media
clearly that wasn't "nothing" because the way he acted tells me he knows more then the "she just dies normally" and how insistent he is on keeping Kou out of her book has me worried...I know it's not a hobby of his to show books to everyone especially as the curater but, man is he suspicious
it's possible that the timeline/future has been altered considering we have a time loop going and a lifespan switch, but with how Nene's lifespan went back to normal I'd say it's still okay to leave the possibility that this is all also part of their fate/future which is something I've always kept close to me when it comes to written out destinies, and now that everything is back to normal Nene is still a Kannagi destined to die...or maybe not die a Kannagi but she was and still is technically a Kannagi, just not to be sacrificed anymore
but the possibility of Tsuchigomori knowing about this and standing by and letting everything play out is very plausible with how he is, he sees no point in altering the future and simply will not, so would Tsuchigomori really let the whole school go into chaos? I'd say yeah, he would, and he will let everything play out, what I don't know, is whether the story will come back to him and he'll help us out with the "world ending" or maybe he's helping out Sakura because she seems like she knows a lot about futures and the 4pm bookstacks if you ask me...
let's just hope this isn't another plot convenience thrown out the window!

Amane's motives
wAIT A SEC I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING-
After reading this analysis, now a thought has crossed my mind which probably doesn't really makes much sense and I'm probably wrong and overthinking it but-
Now I.. kind of have a theory as to why Amane killed Tsukasa... It just crossed my mind and I really wanted to talk about it, even if it doesn't make much sense lol
Without much further ado, let's begin with a dramatic entrance because I like suspense! also lil' note; I'll refer to the fake Shijima Mei as Shijima, while to the real Shijima Mei I'll refer to her as Mei.
Tumblr media
Ookay... We all know that Amane's reasoning as to why he killed Tsukasa was never revealed yet right...? And we know that Amane is possessive about the people he loves, right…?
What if- uhm
What if the reason as to why Amane killed Tsukasa.. was because of his possessiveness?
like- bear with me
In the manga, we can clearly see how possessive and jealous Amane is.
Tumblr media
Pushing Kou away from Nene just so he could hug her-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Most likely) 'punishing' Nene for worrying more about Kou than himself... Which made him punish her by transforming her hair into a HORSE RADISH TO HEAVEN MIRACLE! lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Your world may be kind to her.. This one may be cruel... But it doesn't matter. Because Yashiro likes me."
I know he was saving her, but that sentence still sounded a bit possessive-
"Didn't your master teach you not to take things that don't belong to you?"
Definitely possessive.
Tumblr media
Once again.. 'Punishing' her for thinking about other boys.
Heck- The whole picture perfect arc (more specifically, when we finally learn more about Shijima-san and Mei-chan) is a whole parallel to how Hanako wants to protect Nene, the same way Shijima wants to protect Mei.
And we know that it had a whole panel about Shijima trying to kill Mei-

Shijima made everything out of her way to keep Mei happy and living, because that's what Mei's wish was; To live.
However, Shijima felt like she failed on her purpose, which lead her to trying to kill Mei so she could erase herself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shijima and Hanako parallels each other so much; They both wanted/wants to protect their loved ones, but they ended up failing at it. So Shijima tried to kill Mei so they both wouldn't have to suffer even more, and Hanako sacrificed Aoi for Nene's life so she can live longer.
There are more panels about Hanako being jealous and possessive towards Nene, but I'm afraid this blog will run out of image limits if I put all of them into one-
Hanako said that he wanted Nene to live a life bestowed by his own hands. Not by Kou nor anyone else, but his.
Tumblr media
So yeah, Hanako is possessive.
Does that mean that he's also possessive towards Tsukasa..? Well..
Let's take a look first...
Tumblr media
"You sure have a lot of friends, Tsukasa. Are you really my little brother?"
It might just be because he's fixing the clock (and fixing a clock really takes all of your effort, i think), but the way his expression looks as he points that out really sounds like he's jealous, almost possessive.
And Tsukasa is often associated with the Moon…
Tumblr media
(Tsukasa is also named after Tsukuyomi, who is the God of the Moon.)
And, in some of the official arts, Amane is often seen holding an object that has some relationship to the Moon, looking at the Moon, or just holding the Moon itself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(there is more but you know- tumblr image limits;-;;-;)
[GORE WARNING IN THE LAST IMAGE!]
and the fact that Tsukasa is often associated with the Moon, Amane states that his Moon rock (who may or may not parallel Tsukasa) is his prize possession, and that this official art has the space as part of the background...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly, I don't think Tsukasa is the one who is possessive, actually. Still have no idea how did people came to this conclusion.Tsukasa is obsessive, yes, but not possessive.. You don't see him stopping Nene and Amane from being all lovey-doveys towards each other, even though he's clearly watching it all.
So yeah- Amane is possessive, and my theory is that he may have killed Tsukasa out of possessiveness, but why? Why did he get so possessive all of sudden to the point of killing Tsukasa?
Thing is.. Idk lol
I don't think Amane knew that Tsukasa has a demon inside him, or think that Tsukasa has been 'replaced' by that demon- I mean, how would he know? Tsukasa has disappeared at the age of 4, and came back different than usual, but people change, and since they were both so young at that time, Amane probably doesn't even remember how Tsukasa used to act like besides acting all happy and energetic as usual.
They grew up, so they both changed from the people they were before.
Of course, it still has the possibility that Amane may have been convinced that Tsukasa has a demon inside him, or have been replaced by this very same demon, and Amane killed him because he wanted his brother back, not some sort of demon using his brother's face.
But then, it also has the possibility that Amane killed Tsukasa out of possessiveness, just like how Shijima tried to kill Mei just so they both wouldn't have to suffer anymore.
Who knows- Maybe the reason why Amane killed Tsukasa was because he didn't want them both to suffer anymore-? Just like Shijima.
Amane was most likely getting bullied, and Tsukasa had a demon inside him (that Amane may or may not have found that out sometime around middle school), so the only thing Amane could think of that could spare them any more suffering was to kill Tsukasa and then himself.
The main evidence for it is that Shijima and Hanako are really similar to each other, and Shijima tried to do the exact same thing just so she and Mei wouldn't have to suffer anymore.
So yeah- not many evidences, but it was still fun to theorize about it lol (not in a weird way.. I just like theorizing.)
I may be wrong, I am most likely wrong, but I atleast I got this out of my chest xd
Man.. I love theorizing about the Yugi Twins lmao
Tumblr media
So yeah-- I think that's it..?
Cya 'till the next post! <3
lil' note; feel free to add your own thoughts about it or to correct me about something! Just be respectful about it, please.
lil' update from 10/17/23: Just noticed that someone else already had this theory... Welp xD It's very well thought out, though. So go read it if you want!

asking for an akane analysis🤲🤲🤲
oh anon are you Ready for a horrible ride.. here's a very messy akane analysis!
just a heads up, this is 1256 words long. beware!
akane has been a very confusing character from the start. the first time he's actually introduced, he's obviously 'in love' with aoi. while aoi is a big part of his character, that's really all he's ever seen for; being obsessed with her.
there are serious problems he has when it comes to this 'love.' the only reason he 'likes' aoi so much is because he feels like he can be with her comfortably. she isn't drawn away from him and vise versa. he thinks she accepts him the way he is. but in the end, that's not even true- it’s not the case at all, it’s far from it.
he changes himself for her and for people in general. he changed himself so people in his class would trust and look up to him and also changed himself to be more approachable. he's just changed himself a whole lot, honestly. it’s a very prominent part of his character that can’t be overlooked.
he's an obvious people pleaser because of this constant changing. even after aoi doesn't show interest in certain people after a certain amount of time, akane seems to continue some of the stuff she found intriguing anyway- mainly things he was either known or looked up to for. he continues to pretend to be nice to everyone as the class rep and also stays in the student council. he lets people rely on him a majority of the time, even when he bites off more than he can chew- which is pretty often.
because of all these changes, the only thing he really knows about himself is that he isn't likable unless he shapes himself into the way people want him to be.
he has no clear sense of self and doesn't even know himself how his own personality is anymore. he's gotten so deep into changing for others’ wishes and trying to win them over that he doesn't even know what he likes. he claims that he enjoys 'raspberry pie' but that’s only because it's what aoi likes. he also claims that he likes 'whatever aoi makes for him' even if she hasn't made him anything. he doesn't have anyone he actually feels comfortable enough with to be himself without fear of disappointment and not being liked other than teru and lemon. he only has four friends, actually. aoi, yashiro, teru, and lemon. i’m not actually really sure if yashiro counts, but because of ch 72, i’m including her.
his view on love is also insanely blurred. like, it's seriously bad and an ongoing problem. the thing he feels for aoi is nowhere near love, and so he doesn't know what it's like to really love someone. i'm not sure if this may be caused by family or something else in his childhood, but it doesn't look like anyone really loves him for who he is, so he has trouble expressing proper affection and love in general. he's shown as sarcastic and too honest to some people. an example would be telling yashiro her opinion could 'eat shit and die' or being a little too aggressive to lemon. he's obviously not very good with friends or most people in general. he says himself that people "wouldn't be his friend if they knew how he really was." so he doesn't know what it feels like to be loved back unless he changes himself continuously- which means he doesn’t really know what it feels like to be loved at all.
the reason people ship terukane so much in my opinion is because they both feel comfortable enough to not pretend to be their perfect nice selves for each other. akane doesn’t force himself to filter out his thoughts around teru and vice versa. but unfortunately for me, this isn’t a terukane analysis. forgive me but i had to include this
anyway, akane can actually read other people easily. when it comes to aoi and teru, he can see right through their fake personas; but he knows nothing about himself. he's shown to get upset at them for this reason, pretending to be people they aren't despite him doing the same.
he doesn't like himself OR seeing himself in others. he obviously sees himself in teru. that same reason is why he doesn't put teru on a pedestal like everyone else and treats him the way he actually sees him; which is not very human. teru treats him the same way back. while he's somehow comfortable enough to treat teru the way he sees him, he puts on a persona for aoi the same way she does to him. he only snaps during ch 69 when he tells her he hated her and her persona from the start and found it 'cute' when she cried. it was the only time she was being herself around him. he listened to teru during ch 79 as well because he was also being his true self. i feel like he envies them for that type of thing.
while they're able to actually be themselves at times, he can't because he doesn't have a clue on what he's like anymore. he's hid and repressed his personality for so long that he just can't be the same. teru and aoi might put on a persona to the public, but they know how 'horrible' they really are even if they hide. akane only knows that he's horrible and nothing more.
there's so many reasons he could be this way though. like i mentioned about his family, he might not have been properly loved? the oneshot about him and lemon proves that he was taught that looks and first impressions were everything. he was obviously taught things as a kid that caused him to want to change for everyone. in fact, when he first meets aoi, he's shown with his parents and they sort of motion him towards her. aoi says that he was always polite and 'easily liked' from the start, but that he held the worst burden. he helps out and gives things his all even when he complains in secret. he's been pretending for other people for so long and it's the same reason she 'hates' him too. i wouldn't say it's akane’s fault per say, since it was drilled into his head to be somewhat grown up since childhood, but he genuinely doesn't seem to know when and when not to stop.
that’s probably because a lot of people give into the way he thinks and that's a huge problem. the way aoi acts towards him enables his personality shaping behavior. the way other people put pressure on him to help them enables him as well. there's so many reasons he has to just keep changing and it's really unhealthy at this point.
this may be more of a headcanon, but i believe he has some sort of abandonment or attachment issues. that would tie into his possibly messy and unwanted childhood and family problems, so it sort of fits all together when you think about it. if he didn’t fit their wants, they might have threatened to leave- so when they were around, he was super attached to them. though like i said, this may be reaching…
tl;dr, akane changes himself constantly so he doesn’t know what he’s like. he doesn’t understand love, both given and received. he probably didn’t have a good childhood and now he has abandonment and attachment issues. he also hates himself and doesn’t like when people are like him.
thanks for reading!

Kokujoudai, projecting Tsukasa’s soul?
I’ve wanted to make a post about Tsukasa’s hitodama.
Hitodama are human souls. So I wonder if Kokujoudai and Hakujoudai are just Tsukasa and Hanako’s souls?
Tumblr media
Kokujoudai seems to fret a little bit much, don’t they? Nervous little things.
Tumblr media
Tsukasa was probably feeling stressed in this chapter, since he didn’t know how to take care of baby Nene.
He even walked away to sing to himself to calm down.
I love Tsu’s character. There is still so much we don’t know about him.
Are you telling me he’s just a little cutie pie who worries internally all the time? 🥹
I wouldn’t be that surprised. With how much business he has to take care of, must be a lot to juggle by himself

Tsukasa and the Darkness supernatural
( Just a bunch of questions about the Darkness honestly )
I’ve been wanting to make a post about the relationship between Tsukasa and the supernatural inside of him.
I feel like it’s the typical ‘monster’ and ‘human’ dynamic duo, where the human grows fond of the monster quickly, and the monster warms up to them just as easily, and now they’re friends and the monster would never have them be hurt. They care about each other.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wonder what is the entity’s purpose, what’s its goals or intentions from the start? What is it like? It’s personality? If it has one, because.. It’s not at all human or supernatural, because it’s no good for any human or supernatural..
Was giving the ball back, it being friendly? Or, with the intents of luring Tsukasa in? And successfully doing so?
Did it want to do something with Tsukasa? Did it plan for them to meet? Who knows..
Tumblr media
But, despite it being completely mysterious, Tsukasa is sociable with it.
Does Tsukasa have a good sense of danger at all? Would any kid really not be suspicious of a dark matter being under their house?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s crunching, does it have teeth? The frog is completely gone after one bite?
How can it summon a book just like that, how did it even know what type of book Tsukasa wanted?
And it copies what Tsukasa says like it may not know human language originally. Almost like a parrot??
Tumblr media
I wonder what the entities voice would even sound like. Would it just sound low and dark? Or maybe, a bit hushed and airy?
Tumblr media
It’s obvious Tsukasa does grow fond of the entity really easily. Because he’s a gullible child and all. But, Tsukasa never really lost that type of casualty with any supernatural he meets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now it can perform full sentences?
Tumblr media
What’s at the bottom of that hole anyways? What kind of supernatural form does it take
Whenever I imagine what type of form it would have, I only imagine just a shadowy figure of Tsukasa. They are coexisting in the same body, anyway. I wonder how that works? Are they just the same person, or are they different beings in one body?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Let’s go back together.” So friendly.
The supernatural doesn’t even say anything. I don’t think it even suspected Tsukasa knew how to get out of the Red House.
Tumblr media
Going back to this, I wonder if Tsukasa is saying ‘they’ll’ as the entity doesn’t have a supposed gender, or, if it’s more than one being? A bunch of different things in one?
Tumblr media
The Darkness gets mad, so it does have emotions? Maybe not humane, but, emotions nonetheless?
I don’t know, this is just a bunch of sh** I tried to piece together.
But, I still have many questions about, whatever the supernatural may be.
I hope Aida shows us soon, maybe we’ll be to see what the Darkness looks like in the next arc/chapter, when the Clock Keepers are going to go back and time and deal with it.
I just like the idea of Tsukasa and the Darkness being casual friends, close friends? His only known, expressive friend??
Because Tsukasa probably does still communicate with the being.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He still stays in his childhood room sometimes, and that big hole is still there, so he possibly still speaks to the Darkness entity.
Anyway, summary, we should talk about Tsukasa and Darkness brotp more.

Haven't they broken several rules they've established just for everything to revolve around Tsukasa? Like...
1. A mystery can't be defeated in their own boundary (and yet Tsukasa somehow ripped Kako's heart out in his own boundary)
2. You can't use your tsueshiro in a boundary without permission (and yet Tsukasa ordered his to hold down Mirai)
3. Nobody could move because the school's time was frozen (yet Tsukasa did, as well as Yashiro, and Hanako who if I remember correctly suddenly unfroze on his own to break down into tears)
The earlier chapters were way better at following previously established rules and concepts compared to whatever's going on right now
They did ! :))) (want to explode)
I can understand the idea that Tsukasa is a rule breaker, he did destroy the previous n°3 in his own boundary too and it was an interesting twist! I can understand the idea and why it can be interesting, but the way AidaIro using all others characters/plots to make him stand out is just terrible. Dirsregarding rules is not a new thing about AidaIro unfortunately but Tsukasa really wins all medals on breaking them.
Tumblr media
As you said, he was able to move when time was stopped and for which reason?? We don't know. Hanako was able to move once Akane and Teru got to him, probably because Akane is a clock keeper and can somehow give the permission to people to move.
Tumblr media
I said it before and I will say it again, but wanting to show a character is powerful/cool by making the others characters look stupid is terrible writing, and that's the feeling I got with Tsukasa in general. (and chapter 109 is just a whole sequence of the characters being made fun of)
We don't know where to stand because he has every kind of tropes attached to him. They want us to understand he is some kind of martyr who is 'omg poor lil Tsukasa who was so selfless at only 4yo boohoo' (no matter which translation I read for the red house arc, he is believable somehow with Kou but then we get the flashbacks with Amane and it's gone). They put him in an 'angel' position and naive position in a lot of aus, want us so bad to understand deep down he is a nice boy. When we watched him do every possible horrors on screen. And don't get me wrong, I don't mind this, it's cool. Him forcing Mitsuba to eat, creating him, the way he treats some characters... It's the way they are not doing that to other characters who is so strange in my opinon. They know how to handle grey characters like Hanako or Teru (from the reader's pov) so I don't why they try so hard to put Tsukasa in a good light.
He is not a believable kid character in the red house arc, being smarter than Kou and Nene is not making him cool, it's just making Kou and Nene absolute idiots.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Him destroying his shackles thanks to Mirai power? It's not him being clever, it's Mirai and the clock keepers being made fun of. Him knowing what Hanako should be doing by using Nene? Not making Tsukasa cool, it's making Nene just as an object for Hanako's love, and to get a reaction out of him, most of the time by making Hanako look stupid. (I could go hours on why Nene is just here to serve as a mean to Hanako's character since some arc rather than being her own person but that's for another day)...
I understand that Tsukasa is like 'the antagonist and should be some steps ahead of the portagonist' but it's just so repitive in the way he is unpredicatble that it became boring and predictable. I was overjoyed to see him like this in chapter 108. (which was let's be honest the only good chapter in this new arc)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tsukasa is really good here, which is why the drop of quality in chap 109 is even worst. Seeing a new side of him as a supernatural and his sorrow/hatred for Amane is really great. He even moralizes Nene about why sometimes you just need/have to get yourself out of situations alone, and that's how he himself proceeds because his brother never went to see him in 50 years. That he had no choice but to do so. It's great! Really great! To see that he is also an unpredicatble character and who decides to do what he wants not taking people's opinions in mind, because even his older never helped him when he called for him during all this time. It adds a good layer to his character and seeing him weaker/not really knowing what to do is something we desesperatly need for his chacter. But as everything in chap 108, chap 109 throws it out of the window and goes back to the usual ' we have set ups but terrible pay offs' things that has been happening a lot in the recent arcs.
Tumblr media
He is also way too OP. As you said suddenly his tsueshiros could move again and he got rid of Kako. Even Hakubo and Teru being ones of the most powerful characters, were defeated once, Tsukasa never was seriously. It's never explained why he is so powerful (probably because he has an entity inside him/he eats others supernaturals) but the difference of levels is just insane, and absolutely not compelling to read.
We don't know why he is doing what he is doing and they try so hard to make him mysterious. They want us to get to know him without saying anything relevant or his backstory. We are left with whole chapters of absolutely nothing. Welp too bad I am not patient enough to see Tsukasa doing random stuff when half of the characters have rushed characters development or none because 'there isn't much time'.
AidaIro want us to understand they love him and that we should too but they are just destroying every other characters rather than make him loveable.
I hate what they did with his character, his role is terrible because it's destroying eveyone else's. Tsukasa is the favorite and it shows, but it's so badly done that I can't help but hate him.

Akane is a popular kid, arguably the most popular student outside Aoi and Teru, at least in his own class, so let's talk about it!
In his introduction, we are told the basics: how Akane is a childhood friend of Aoi, dutiful, obsessed with her, and so on. During this exposition, we get this small panel of two guys looking at him with a positive opinion of him:
Tumblr media
It's important that the stripped shirt guy is the one who says "Akane is so nice" cause it is implied he has a crush on Aoi, or at the very least, that he considers her really cute, blushing when she is just living her life.
Tumblr media
So even people who should consider him one hell of a romantic rival don't think badly of him. I would go as far as to say that they are invested in his obvious crush on Aoi because of the amount of attention he gets after being enchanted by the confession tree.
In an arc where everyone starts to get together, is hard to notice or even care about new couples.
Tumblr media
But the whole class stops when Akane and Lemon claim to be dating. They surround the boys and talk about it, openly staring at them. (shout out to @bpzau-d-r-a-w-s for pointing out this crowd)
Tumblr media
Which I would have assumed is homophobia if it wasn't for how many guys confess to Teru on the daily without being spared a single thought, or the way no one is trying to comfort Aoi.
If he was only known as 'that dude that follows Aoi' the class reaction should be "Great! Her bodyguard is not in the picture anymore! That's my chance!" but they don't spare Aoi a glance. No one cares that "our calm and composed popular queen is crying in the middle of class." right now. They are just... focused on Akane, too shocked by his change of heart to care about much else.
I know is Akane getting this attention instead of Lemon because the class reacted the same way once Akane started studying like crazy to win 'Teru's challenge' in chapter 59.
Tumblr media
People don't dismiss his behavior as "hum, weird, well whatever" like when Nene talks to 'herself '(talk to Hanako) in class, they keep crowding and talking about Akane, they are invested, aware of the context of the situation (so they asked him) and familiar enough to take a guess that his behavior is related to Aoi.
So they care about what this weirdo is doing, he is a soap opera to the class! Just look at how invested people get when he says no to Aoi, even the background crew are open-mouthed or confused.
Tumblr media
This idea Akane is a boy people pay attention to is everywhere in the manga.
Even for a class representative/council guy, it is ridiculous the number of people who want his help. He is always surrounded by people wanting his help.
Tumblr media
I personally can't see that many people approach someone just to take advantage of them, he makes others go "Oh it's Aoi! I can trust Aoi to be of help :D" but I acknowledge that can be seen as a sign of how incompetent his class is or just people wanting to take advantage of him, so I'll talk about the cases people run to him that are nonrelated to his duties, is just his vibes:
Tiara gets super attached to Akane in no time, literally clinging to him out of everyone in the room, running to his side whenever there is an opportunity for it.
Tumblr media
Hanako, who is apathetic towards most humans and supernaturals alike, loves his guts. Even if the admiration is not mutual.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Teru and Aoi are prideful people who have the whole school paying attention to them. They look at Akane the most.
Tumblr media
Girls especially seem to like him.
We don't see him interact with many girls considering Aoi's jealous nature, but enough to tell the boys in his class call him 'Aoi', and the girls call him 'Akane-kun.' (shout out to @iamhereinthebg for pointing that out)
Tumblr media
I am convinced the reason he doesn't get many confessions is because he brutally shuts down anyone who tries.
He isn't like Teru and Aoi, he does not believe in "I'll let them down gently, give them a cute smile to soothe the pain of rejection" he just crushes their hopes without hesitation and makes it clear they have no chance.
The one girl we explicitly see confess to him only ever hoped Akane would accept her chocolate, having no hopes her feelings would be returned but caring enough to let him know anyway.
Tumblr media
And Akane still rejected her chocolates.
He seems to be relatively used to confessions, to the point he panicked when Nene said "I've meant to talk to you for ages" and immediately assumed she wanted to confess to him.
Tumblr media
His answer is so quick, almost scripted "My heart belongs to another. I'm sorry." it makes no sense if he isn't at least somewhat used to getting love confessions.
Considering how... Unpleasant confessing to a guy who everyone knows has been madly in love with someone else for more than a decade must be, I am not surprised almost no one is brave enough to even try to pursue him. His blunt, borderline rude, way of expressing that his suitors are not welcome probably doesn't help either.
Bonus:
He is no idol, people do not trip over themselves when they see him like with Aoi and teru, but I do think he is considered a 'pretty boy' in canon.
Maybe I am reaching cause I am biased af, but I do find it wild that he is drawn super pretty in other's people pov when he is being playful or flirty, and the person always blushes about it.

Minamoto Kou from TBHK - Character analysis no one asked for ;))
(may contain anime/manga spoilers)
--
Tumblr media
Kou is one of my favorite characters in TBHK. I like his character a lot because it's so well-written and has a lot of character development trough the story.
--
His relationship with Hanako
In his first appearance, he wants to exorcise Hanako because he's a supernatural. But later he becomes friends with him, and their friendship makes him realize that not all supernaturals are evil, as he thought. There's a scene in the manga, which was not animated, in chapter 9 i believe, that Teru is trying to exorcise Hanako but Kou saves him. In my opinion this was a really important scene and it should have been animated. Kou didn't even know Hanako that well at that time, but still he protected him.
The fact that Kou could feel empathy for Hanako and Teru couldn't is a big difference between them.
His relationship with his family
Kou feels a lot of pressure to save and protect everyone around him, especially his friends. This pressure is mainly due to his brother, which he really admires and wants to be like him someday because he's so strong. Despite this, Kou reveals he actually envies his brother a lot, because everyone likes him so much, everyone depends on him and he is really confident- something that Kou isn't. Chapters 87/89 reveal a lot about Teru and Kou's relationship. Kou says "no one ever depends on him and no one ever needs him". He feels weak and meaningless. He also says he feels miserable because it's like he's just replacing their mother, since he does all the home chores while Teru protects people from supernaturals and fights them. When Teru tells Kou that he's weak, and he would be "much more helpful in the kitchen" (chapter 87), it is shown that this pressure comes mainly from his brother for saying such things. Kou also says that when they were younger, Kou wanted to help Teru out but he would always tell him that "it's too dangerous" and he should stay at home, which made him feel more distant from his brother and more weak and incapable.
Personality
Kou has a really bright and cheerful personality. He's a very optimistic person, for example in the last episode of the anime, there's this scene where he's alone in a classroom, thinking about Mitsuba and then saying that everything will be okay, and that he will save and protect Mistuba. Even if he didn't know what he would do, he still believed he would find a way to fix everything, and would not give up. This behavior shows that part of this concern of saving and protecting his friends is a way for Kou to feel less insecure about himself, a way to prove himself he's not weak. But the fact that he feels the need to prove this and risk his own life at several situations for this acceptance shows how insecure he is. I believe that in chapter 87, when Teru tells Kou to "stop acting like a hero", he was mentioning this. Yes, Kou cares about the people around him, but that's not the only reason for him wanting to protect them. He also tries to protect them so he feels better about himself.
He's constantly taking care of everyone around him that he ends up not taking care of himself, feeling even more insecure and risking his own life for other people, because he feels miserable and meaningless if no one is counting on him. He wants everyone to count on him and depend on him, but he's the one who depends way too much on everyone around him and what they think about him.
His relationship with Mitsuba
When Kou and Mitsuba meet after Mitsuba's death (episode 7), Kou doesn't remember him, but he still tries to help him "solve his problems". When he remembers who Mitsuba was, he wants to keep being friends with him even if he's already dead. In chapter 48, Kou even attempts to kill himself so they can stay together forever and understand each other. He cares a lot about Mitsuba and wants him to be happy. However, it seems to me that since real Mitsuba is dead, Kou doesn't know exactly how to deal with the "new Mitsuba". As he says, this Mitsuba has the same personality and appearance as the real Mitsuba, but they're not the same because this is not the same person he met before Mitsuba's death, and this definitely affected him in some way. I feel like Kou has been more distant from Mitsuba for this reason. This situation is really complicated and probably confusing for him. It's almost as if Kou sees Mitsuba's security as his responsability, so he keeps protecting him despite the situation. I feel like they have become more distant, thought, since the real Mitsuba's ghost died. That's pretty sad.. But totally understandable.
--
Let me know what you think! Which character should i write about next? :)
This is just my opinion/perspective don't take it too seriously pls!!
Thank you so much for reading, have a nice day!

terukane analysis, and/or just random stuff, i have too many prompts in drafts but they’re too small to be their own analysies so they’re here pt. 2 💫
Tumblr media
I already made one of these a bit ago, so if theres anything not here it’s either in that other one, or i just haven’t covered it (yet)
Item A: “I like Akane-san”
When teru says this, it comes out differently in every language. And seemingly equally ambiguous which i find interesting
for example, in the french translation of this line, teru says "I love you more than you might think akane" rather than saying “i like akane-san” and i mean having a mistranslation here is obviously something, but what he actually says is just what?
“i love you more than you might think akane” EXCUSE ME??
also not to mention “san” is gender neutral. He very well could be calling akane by his first name and them (akane & nene) misunderstanding what he said. Although he does refer to aoi as “akane-san”, the translators wouldve translated it to “aoi” instead of “akane” if he was referring to her (or not, im not completely sure on how they do the translation 😭)
Item B: queer association
(Edit: Im fucking dumb and forgot to add the panel of that one dude yelling “no i want to be his boyfriend!” But i can’t find it for the life of me so pretend its here)
not only is this one of the only canon queer characters in tbhk, (my guy only got one panel 💔) but also this associates “queerness” or wtv that means with teru
along with akane mentioning both genders being attracted to teru. Again, associating queerness with him. And you may be wondering, why is this important? well, notice how out of all of the main and/or reoccurring characters, he is one of the ONLY characters to be associated with queerness. (The only others being kou; his friends teasing him about wanting to “undress mitsuba” and akane; the whole yamabuki thing) for example, take note of how scarily popular aoi is because of her beauty, shes like a literal god, everyone loves this girl, but notice how never once has a girl ever confessed to her? actively not associating her with queerness, unlike teru.
and notice how the other characters that are associated with queerness are kou, who (its pretty much been canonized atp) has romantic feelings for his male friend mitsuba, and AKANE. The guy i swear he has a crush on like cmon now AidaIro can you be more obvious
Item C: reoccurring patterns
in tbhk, all of the confirmed/obviously implied romantic relationships between the main characters have been supernatural x human, hanako and nene, mitsuba and kou, akane and aoi, excluding only teru and aoi. But this does not exclude teru and akane, almost showing us that in the love triangle between teru, akane and aoi, it may not be revolving around which one gets with aoi, but which one gets with akane. It seems as though teru x aoi was never an option from the start.
Although teru has said he likes aoi, his actions say otherwise. for example teruaoi’s conversation in the convenience store was obviously extremely awkward, the only non-awkward part being when he helped her out of that creepy interaction with the clerk.

And the face he made when akane asked/assumed he had a crush on aoi
Tumblr media
(Which he never definitively answered)
The point of this section was because of these reoccurring patterns we can conclude akane is the main love interest, not aoi.
Item D: their relationship
Something teru likes about akane, is how no matter what he doesn’t seem to ever give up. Which yes in some aspects this can be a bad thing, coff coff
Tumblr media
But most times, you can kind of tell this is a big reason he likes akane, almost like a “he pushes him down, he gets back up” kind of thing, its a big part of their dynamic. If akane wasn’t like this, their dynamic would change a lot. He likes this because as stated in the spinoff, he kind of uses akane as a “stress toy” (which has obviously changed, as their relationship did when the series progresses) but he likes this because at the end of the day, akane will come back. No matter how many times he ties akane up, he returns to the student council room. No matter how many times teru pushes akane down (in this example, literally) he gets back up.
Something i like about terukane, is their relationship. The trust and motivation they give one another. For example, its shown early on Teru has disassociates himself from other people. Teru views the living as “delicate” and kind of makes it his job to protect them from supernaturals (when i say he made it his job i mean his dad did). He was raised to have a very different view towards the living vs supernaturals. Rounding this back to Terukane, teru doesn't view akane as “fragile” like other people, and I think that's something to take note of. The reason he thinks like this could definitely tie into the fact that he’s half supernatural but also he views akane in a higher regard then most people. Akane keeps up with him, teru actually acknowledges this, saying he values his intelligence and enjoys talking to him.
Tumblr media
Its kind of been shown teru has had a hard time making friends ever since grade-school, i mean yeah he talks to people, but the only people he’s lowered his guard around has been tiara and kou (siblings), and akane. A literal supernatural (the kind of person this guy is supposed to exterminate??) Literally what makes akane so special? This guy is the most popular person in THE school, second to none, and the only person besides his family that he can let his guard around is akane? They both work in the student council, president and vice president meaning they work in extremely close quarters, everyday, giving them lots of time to talk, so its no doubt they became close, but out of everyone, teru choosing akane to put his trust in is just odd to me idk man
Item E: bringing up each other alot
in many instances, teru and akane bring eachother up when they aren’t even involved in the current situation, or unintentionally show us they think about eachother more than we think they do, a few examples:
Tumblr media
Teru talking ab akane to his family. Call me insane but i have alot to say ab this one. This one really gets me because that would mean throughout his entire way home from school, including if he fought off supernaturals on his way back (which he seems to do pretty much everyday), from the last time he saw akane, he had to have been thinking about him the entire time. Since they are in the student council they stay together for most of the day when its not their extra/curricular classes or lunch, meaning they probably stayed together until about an hour after school ended, and according to google
Tumblr media
School ends around 3:50 to 4pm and their after school activities last until around 6pm. In one chapter i forget which one, kou complains about his brother not being home much and whenever he is home he’s usually sleeping or too sleepy to answer him properly, (and in art of their ‘home life’ teru is always either sleeping or sleepy) because of his constant fighting with supernaturals well into the evening. Now lets assume at this point teru has left the school building, and about a few (5) minutes down the sidewalk and he runs into supernaturals, fights them off yadayadayada, at this point it’s presumably now 6:30-6:40, now lets also assume they live about a few (5) blocks away from the school, one block presumably taking 5 minutes each, times the 5 blocks they live away, taking approximately 25 minutes to half an hour to walk, plus the additional time he took to exorcise the supernaturals on his way home, which by this point we can probably assume its 7-7:20 now which is around an hour after families/people usually make dinner, we can assume he gets home at the 7-7:20 mark, sits down with tiara and kou to have dinner when this panel was shown
Tumblr media
Meaning for an esitmated two and half, to three consecutive hours, akane was on teru’s mind. Thats a pretty long time to be thinking ab someone teru. I know what you are
Tumblr media
(it says “Aoi is coming too.”) him blushing while talking ab his bf
Tumblr media
akane having a literal DREAM about him. I havent had dreams with life long friends in them so to have a dream about this boy you “hate” is.. hmmm
Tumblr media
Innermost subconscious feelings you say? okay okay so not queer at all yk so buddy so bro of them
Item F: the original plot
tbhk was originally going to be a oneshot manga featuring the love triangle between akane, lemon and aoi but later was cancelled, and in the official manga, they made lemon and akane “fall in love”
Tumblr media
obviously as a joke but that shows AidaIro is not oblivious to the idea/premise of the two boys instead falling in love with eachother, rather than the girl, so the idea (i talked more ab in a past analysis) of teru&akane getting together rather than teru&aoi or akane&aoi getting together is ON THE TABLE
would add more but i fear this will take me too long💔 new chapter next week yall prepare urselfs
