WIP Wednesday (poll results edition)

Since the girl!dad!buck-appendicitis fic won the poll (sorry to those who were rooting for pneumonia fic hahah) here’s some words! And thank you for tagging me @rewritetheending <33

“You okay, bud?” Buck asks quietly, almost whispering—loud enough to be heard if Chris was in fact awake, but not so loud that a teenager might be woken up from their deep adolescent slumber if he wasn’t.

There’s no sound from the blanket-lump, so Buck takes three strides into the room, narrowly avoiding a collection of transformer figurines that have been left on the floor, before gently pulling back one of the blankets to let his hand rest on Christopher’s forehead. It’s blissfully cool, no hint of a fever or the uncomfortable sweats that come with nausea and sickness. He’s sleeping soundly, snoring a little even. Perfectly content. And Buck can’t help but let out the breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding as he carefully backs out of the kid’s room.

“He okay?” A voice mumbles quietly from the doorway behind him, and Buck narrowly avoids screeching at the shock as he jumps a mile in the air.

When he turns around, Eddie’s eyes are practically lit up with joy at having accidentally scared his husband so badly. He’s leaning against the wall, backlit from the light in the hall, all sleepy and soft, with his hair mussed from sleep…

But his lips are pursed as he tries desperately not to laugh, and his shoulders are already shaking, so Buck has no choice but to glare as he gently shoves him out of the way to close Christopher’s door behind them with a quiet click.

“He’s fine,” Buck whispers assuringly once they’re clear, “I just wanted to make sure.”

Eddie’s smile turns fond, before his look shifts into one of assessment—his previous mirth all but forgotten.

“Are you okay?” He asks, peering closer, as he reaches up to brush his thumb over Buck’s left cheek, cradling his face there for a moment. “You look a little peaky.”

“Dinner disagreed with me,” Buck says simply with a handwave to minimize his husband’s concern.

“Nooo,” Eddie says for dramatic effect, in the hope that it might cheer him up, “were you sick?” At Buck’s small nod, Eddie repeats himself with another elongated; “nooo,” as he brings both hands up to cradle his face, and gently presses a kiss to Buck’s clammy forehead.

“You should’ve woken me up,” he says, without a hint of judgment, as he opens his arms to pull Buck in close—the other man going willingly, as he all but falls into the embrace with a sigh.

I was supposed to finish this for ceecee’s birthday but we all know Amy+deadlines=fail. Eep.
