Ten Facts About Ulannium Kaarz

I wasn’t actually tagged to do one of these for Ulannium, but I started putting this together as a sort of case-study for him, and it seemed to make sense to do this. Fact One – Parentage and Early Childhood: Ulannium Kaarz was born on Coruscant, the son of Ishris Kaarz, his mother, a brilliant research scientist with a Republic pharmaceutical conglomerate, and Luncib Kaarz, his father, a marketing executive and lobbyist with the same company. Both of his parents were very affectionate, Ishits especially. Although she worked long hours, his mother always made time for her son at bedtime, first by singing him Mirialan lullabies, and later by reading to him, fictional stories at first but later more advanced texts such as scientific manuals. Years later, Ulannium would credit his mother’s efforts (and her genetics) with the development of his impressive intellect. By chance, Ulannium’s Force sensitivity was not discovered until he was already six years old. (Possibly a result of his mother’s interference in the screening process.) By then, he was already academically precocious in the extreme, devouring books far beyond his age-level. When he was selected by the Jedi and told he might one day gain access to the full wealth of the Jedi Archives, Ulannium was thrilled at the opportunity. Indeed, if he had an ambition at this point, it would have been to spend the rest of his life in the galaxy’s greatest library. Ulannium had a younger sister, Tharia, who was possibly even more curious about the universe than he. As she was four at the time, he regarded her as a pest who kept stealing his scientific holopads. When the Jedi tested her for Force-sensitivity, it came back negative, much to the relief of her parents who were already giving up a son.

Fact Two – Inspirations: One of my inspirations for the character of Ulannium is George Smiley from John le Carré’s Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. When he does finally confront someone, whether an enemy or even an ally whom he’s trying to persuade, he brings the full force of his intellect to bare on them, and people often find it as overpowering as a force of nature. Ulannium is remarkably proficient at understanding and analyzing most of the people he encounters, including some who others find enigmatic. (Such is the case with Corellan Halcyon. Ulannium understands the Hero of Tython far better than someone like Satele Shan, at least earlier in the story.) On the flip side, a select few people are something of a mystery to Ulannium, and throw him off entirely. (This was the case with Zenith.) Another character who inspired me was Vaegon Targaryen, a minor character from George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire. He could have done a hundred things, including becoming the King. He preferred his books, however.

Fact Three – Growing up on Uphrades: To avoid potential contact with his family on Coruscant, the Jedi sent Ulannium to their small enclave on the agricultural world of Uphrades. It was a small training cadre; two semi-retired Jedi Masters and eight younglings. To discourage unhealthy attachments amongst the younglings, they were arranged on a tiered-age system. The oldest of the younglings would be around fourteen and would be considered on the precipice of their initiate trials to become Padawans. The next-oldest would be a year or two younger than the eldest, and so on down the line until the youngest child, who would be around four or five. With the age difference, it was hoped that the younglings would be less likely to adopt detrimental attachments to each other.

Fact Four – First Friendship: Two years after Ulannium arrived on Uphrades, the next youngling was sent. The younger child seemed untalented and almost Force-blind to Ulannium, who by then was already demonstrating an impressive sensitivity to the Force. But as the Masters were unwilling to give up on him yet, when he turned six, he was handed a training saber. Within a week, he had surpassed every other youngling in combat, even those twice his age. Within a year, no two initiates could match him. Even Master Sagottoh, once a Blademaster of the Order in his younger years, soon found himself pressed. This youngling - one age tier below Ulannium - was named Corellan Halcyon. When they first met, Ulannium himself thought the youngling was untalented and barely worth his notice. Later, when his martial capability manifested, Nowan Ko Detizu realized that Corellan needed Ulannium’s help to acclimate to the other children, most of whom were intimidated by the young firebrand. The bond the two developed would last them the rest of their lives. In recognition of this reality and her responsibilities, when Ulannium was ready to become a padawan, Nowan Ko’s report to the council would advise them not to assign the two to work together, which is why they were kept separated for the next eight years. Although they were both disappointed, both would ultimately conclude it had been the right thing to do.

Fact Five – Tragedy: When the Sack of Coruscant took place, Ulannium was still far away on Uphrades, reading a text on archaeology. He recalls feeling a deep sense of foreboding in the pit of his stomach, but as he was unable to determine what it was, he soon resumed reading. A few days later once the reports had come in, the Uphrades Masters regretfully informed him that his family had been killed during the attack when falling debris had collapsed on them on the street. The youngling showed little reaction at first, then finally announced his intention to head off to find solitude to meditate. The masters, decided that he needed time to process what had happened, let him. Corellan, recognizing that he needed friendship, pursued him and talked. [I may write about that encounter someday.]

Fact Six – Personality: One of Ulannium’s personality quirks is his tendency to answer a question with a question. This is sometimes a defensive mechanism, and sometimes simply a way to get an individual to rethink their position diplomatically. In the normal flow of conversation, he does this skillfully enough that people rarely even notice. He picked up this particular quirk from Master Nowan Ko Detizu, one of his mentors back on Uphrades. The Cathar Jedi taught him a multitude of simple techniques that aid him in his day-to-day life as a Jedi, diplomat and sometime political and military leader.

Fact Seven – Traits: By the time the class stories begin, Ulannium is already an expert in the fields of biology, archaeology, geology and history, and could probably have earned a master’s degree in any of those areas if given the time and inclination to do so. Although he was appropriately honored to meet the esteemed members of the Jedi Council, he was most excited to meet Gnost-Dural, as the Kel Dor had, by then, been named the Keeper of the Jedi Archives. Ulannium definitely has a strong interest – some might even say a passion – for ancient Force knowledge and would live in the Jedi Archives if he could. One of the most difficult decisions he ever faced was rescuing Laria Taphoni on Taris, effectively sacrificing the holocron the expedition team had found. In making his choice, Ulannium was guided by the principles of the Jedi code and recognizes that it was the correct decision, but nevertheless he had to meditate for a long while to process everything that happened. Although he recognizes that Rajivari’s teachings ran contrary to the Jedi code and had corrupted many ancient Jedi, Ulannium never quite forgot what he had learned of it. He wishes he had spent more time with the fallen Je'daii Master to learn where things had gone wrong.

Fact Eight – His Relationship with Nadia Grell: Ulannium doesn’t believe in concepts like “love at first sight”. But when he met Nadia, he generally became more protective of her innocence. Eventually, those feelings evolved into romantic impulses, but even in their early days together, he was somewhat distracted. That was one of the reasons he didn’t immediately pick up on Nadia’s force-sensitivity, which he would have normally understood right from the get-go. As a side note, his relationship with Nadia develops very differently in my story than in the game and does not progress until after she is Knighted almost three years after becoming his Padawan. As a fluffy note, To date, Nadia is the only person who has ever called him “Uli”. She’s usually discreet about the practice, but she did actually let it slip in front of Felix Iresso on one occasion. Ulannium was embarrassed, Nadia was aghast, and Felix was amused.

Fact Nine – Joining the Alliance: After Ulannium and the rest of the Ossus colony rejoined the rest of the galaxy (lining up with the Jedi Under Siege expansion from the canon story), he and Nadia became honorary members of the Eternal Alliance, with Ulannium serving as the Alliance’s liaison with the Council. The Council - when it eventually reformed - did not formally condone or condemn this relationship; they simply pretended that they didn’t know it existed, despite it becoming common knowledge by that point. [Note: This mirrors Revan’s post-KOTOR relationship with Bastilla in the “Revan” novel.] Far from being past his prime after joining the Eternal Alliance, Ulannium achieved some of the most impressive efforts of his career as the Alliance’s top diplomatic negotiator, writing much of the treaty that Corellan and the Alliance would eventually sign with the Galactic Republic. But arguably the most impressive feat of his career was the negotiation of the Treaty of Alderaan, a pact that ended nearly twenty years of civil war and internal discord. Leading the Alliance’s diplomatic corps, one of Ulannium’s top deputies would be the Killik Joiner and former Imperial diplomat and Intelligence operative, Vector Hyllus. Ulannium learned a great deal of respect for Hyllus and his capabilities, which was reciprocated by the Joiner.

Fact Ten - His Legacy: Some years joining the Alliance, he and Nadia had their first child: Maykia Ishris Kaarz. She is named for both of her grandmothers; Maykia on Nadia’s side and Ishris on Ulannium’s. She’s a couple of years younger than Bela and Tasiele, who are friends of hers who I’ve spoken about elsewhere. Her childhood was complicated to say the least, but she eventually fully joined the Jedi order on her own terms as she began adulthood. She wields a double-bladed lightsaber as her mother did, albeit she’s not a true Jedi Shadow. [Note: Maykia is part of the “Future Halcyon Legacy” I’ve been putting together. ]

Thousands of years later, Teela Kaarz, one of Ulannium’s descendants, would be conscripted to work on the construction of the Death Star. Teela and a group of Rebel recruits fled the doomed space station before it exploded. [Novel: Death Star ]

Partner Swap AU

This one started out as a running gag on Discord but we've talked about it so much I feel like one of us is going to have to crack and actually write it eventually. Posting for the prompt, Totally OOC But Hear Me Out…

This would be your classic broad bedroom style farce but set in the modern day and the bit here is basically all the couples start out wrong and we end up with the canon couples by the end.

Adora and Glimmer accidentally hook up while drunk. They both realize it was a mistake but before they can talk about it, Bow (he lives with Glimmer) walks in. He freaks out, runs. Glimmer chases after him, but can't find him and has to leave for a business trip the next morning. Before she leaves, she calls Adora and tries to explain that she loves Adora like a friend but she loves Bow, but the bad call reception leave Adora with the mistaken impression that Glimmer loves her.

Considering it her duty now to stay with Glimmer so her friend isn't sad, Adora convinces herself she'd be happy with Glimmer... even though she knows there's no passion there like there was with her ex.

While Glimmer is gone, Bow confronts Adora. Adora knew he was in love with Glimmer and he considers it a betrayal that she'd hook up with her. Adora feels guilty but doubles down rather than admit it. Glimmer has free will to hook up with whoever she wants, she says, and, besides, it's his own fault for not acting on his feelings sooner. They fight and Bow decides to be petty and get revenge on Adora sleeping with the love of his life by... sleeping with her brother.

Adam, for his part, is perfectly happy to be part of this scheme as he's looking for a distraction while he nurses what he assumes are unrequited feelings for his friend Teela. Adora, however, is furious at this development (especially since she lives with her brother so there's no escaping the Bowdam hook ups) and decides to get her own revenge. She places a call to Scorpia asking her to find someone to ask out Teela, hoping to make her brother so jealous he ends things with Bow.

Scorpia agrees and calls up on old friend to seduce Teela... Adora's ex Catra.

(And I'm not going to say how it all turns out just in case I write it eventually but it's safe to say we're headed for canon couples endgame, obviously, but there would be a lot of silly antics on the road to getting there.)

Like as much as the hate train for he-man revelation was weird as hell it also was weird how any form of legitimate criticism against it was brushed aside as fanboy hate.

I have no idea where this come from, but-

Fic Idea! Free to Good Home!

A middle-aged man with red hair comes to Eternos and claims to be looking for his daughter whom he was separated from when she was just a baby.

He claims that Teela is his daughter.

(This man is also blind.)

Obviously, everyone is suspicious. But Teela also has a waxing curiosity about her birth parents and where she came from, so she's willing to get to know him enough to figure out if she is, in fact, the daughter he's looking for. Adam and Duncan remain suspicious.

Duncan is especially suspicious because he was given Teela by the Sorceress and he knows for sure at least one of her parents. But all the Sorceress ever told him about the father was that he was a warrior and had amnesia. This blind man might have been a warrior before he lost his sight, he's definitely got the same heavy-muscle build that every other warrior in the MotU franchise has, and his hair is almost as red as Teela's so maybe they are related and he's just being paranoid.

Duncan allows Teela to get to know the stranger while he investigates behind their backs.

When the stranger talks about Teela's mother, he describes her as stubborn but very caring, and other words which could be used to describe the sorceress, but are also very general things that could describe anyone.

Eventually, Duncan's investigating discoverers that, no!, this blind stranger is not Teela's biological father. This blind stranger is Tri-Klops! This is all a plot by Skeletor to get a spy inside the palace! They showed Tri-Klops everywhere! The EW have gotten inside the palace! Sound the alarm!

And the story ends with a very emotional scene between Teela and Duncan where she says it doesn't matter if Tri-Klops was her biological father or not. Duncan is her Dad, the one who raised her and the one who very obviously loves her.

the end

I haven't decided how Tri-Klops should feel about the whole Evil Plan... You'll have to decide that for yourself. In the 200X continuity, Tri-Klops' visor is enchanted by Skeletor to compel Tri-Klops to remain loyal to Skeletor regardless of circumstances. So, it's possible Triks isn't able to have an opinion.

Been feeling the itch to make this post

And I absolutely know this will be an unpopular opinion. There will be discourse. It’ll get ugly. But I’m gonna say this because I’m getting absolutely sick of this trend, especially with that new She-Hulk garbage.

These three female characters:

And any other female characters like them, have done actively more to hurt the way women are written in media than any other character type that’s been written. This trend of writing selfish, angry, narcissistic women, where the show treats them as being ultimately right and justified in whatever shitty behavior they engage in, SHOULD be angering a lot of people; a lot of women! Thankfully it does because most people see right through that crap. But the fact that there’s enough of a vocal minority that writers think people want to see more of this shitty type of character, is appalling.

There’s people really out here celebrating the bully-like behavior that these characters exhibit. The top one is unbridled anger and victim-blaming, the middle one is emotionally abusive and manipulative, and as we’ve seen with She-Hulk (Jennifer sweetie, you deserved better. You deserved SO much better. You HAD so much better when you had your cartoon iterations), the last one is privileged and narcissistic. And like... It’s not that you can’t have female characters with negative traits, but this isn’t something that should be touted as flawless and blameless, in-universe or narrative-wise. It doesn’t give these characters any kind of meaningful growth when they’re not learning how their behavior hurts others, or when they refuse to admit that they’re being incredibly unreasonable.

And my final big say: The people who are upset at these depictions are more pro-woman in how fictional women are portrayed than anybody I’ve seen praising these characters as the golden standard. Because the people who aren’t praising these characters want to see female characters grow, change, learn, or just get the love they deserve in general.

Keep moving forward

| a little blurb about Teela when she heard about Flikk’s death.

“Eternal alchemy, how could he be so stupid?”

Those were the first words to come out of her mouth upon hearing the news. Her lip trembled as she spoke, trying to keep herself in check she bit it, using the pain to distract herself. How could he be gone? It wasn’t true, it couldn’t be true. He was a dumbass, that she knew, but to be stupid enough to go and blow himself up?

Over what?

Some theory that didn’t need to be proven at the cost of his life. Even though he left them, left her, she couldn’t help but miss him. It was easy to hate him when he had been alive, when she could look him in the eyes and yell at him. And that last time, he took it. That was the only time he had ever been humble enough to admit how wrong he was.

Now she’d never get the chance to yell at him again. Or fix one of his clearly inferior projects. Or laugh at his dumb jokes. She’d never get to see that spark in his eyes when he talked to her again. He would never take her to the gardens and explain every little detail about even the smallest plant to her again. She’d never feel the warmth of his body, how he was so gentle with her in a way that he wasn’t with anyone else.

What was he thinking, going and killing himself like that?

“Hey Teela, you alright?” Toxx put one heavy hand on her shoulder, trying to comfort her. Blinking back tears she nodded, and stood up. She had to be strong for Toxx, and for Nixxi.

She still had a krewe to take care of. She has always led them through the tough projects, this was simply another one of those. They would get through this together.

Composing herself, she did like she always had done, and got back to work.

I saw this crop up in my feed and I honestly think it’s a bullet dodged.

I had once thought what a female led Transformers show would be like before, and I figured it’d functionally be the She-Ra equivalent…

To clarify I specifically mean 80’s She-Ra. Back when people still knew how to write fun stuff for children and children at heart.

I don’t have a real ill will towards Netflix She-Ra, but it’s clear it was a dud, just as much as MOTU: R was. And following that trajectory, coupled with Hasbro probably looking at the Sequel Trilogy Star Wars stuff, and realizing they can’t sell this. Even now the EarthSpark toys are going clearance like Cyberverse before it, and Elita has the clearance tag stamped on her just like her Netflix War For Cybertron self.

My thought process on this show is this: who is the Hordak/Horde Prime of it? Is it Shockwave? Probably not. I doubt they’d want Megatron near this either. We don’t really have a lot of fully established female Decepticons in positions of authority either that could complement Megatron. This would presumably be MegaEmpress’s time to shine…

But most people either don’t know she exists, or prefer to think she doesn’t due to being a Japanese original character.

Still her team is pretty much a complement to the Female Autobots…

And modern ideas lean towards Elita’s girls being able to combine to complement Megatronia…

Under the right conditions, this CAN work, but after Teela’s controversy in the MOTU fanbase, the endless debates and flat out wars surrounding Rey Skywalker-Palpatine the 14th Esquire, and a lot of modern female led stuff like Madam Web collapsing, it’s probably for the best this wasn’t attempted now until cooler heads prevail.

Because if you made this My Life As A Teenage Robot, Powerpuff Girls or Kim Possible but Transformers, it would be a slam dunk. But now? If you rework Elita and Windy into pretentious and sanctimonious Girl Boss Bots who whine about how Optimus and Bumblebee are idiot men, this toy line will be at Ollie’s faster than you can say bah-weep-gra-nah-weep-ninny-bong.

That a lot of people in the comments didn’t agree in the loss of this show, and was happy it died, kinda shows how bad things have gotten…

Seeing as I’m nearing 1400 followers I thought I would reintroduce myself!

@teelagurl558 is my wife. She is allowed to bully me because she’s a scorpio coded Libra, that’s how they show affection. @microplasticsubmarine is our third counterpart. We have a fan club for her bunny. Together we make up the LCT or the lesbian crab triplets.

This blog contains two braincells. One them is named Brian and Teela and I keep him a little jar and rattle him around sometimes. Key is in charge of the second one, we haven’t seen David in weeks.

Okay some redesign notes his design isn't awful but definitely needs work.

Change the hat to a standard crown. It already looks like an apple and the rims can be serpent shaped.

BEEF HIM UP.

Or give him a dad bod!

Also give the cane gold accents

Dark blue or sunrise colored wings that contains stars (think of Teela's sorceress design from the cgi he man). He is called MORNINGSTAR for a reason.

Make his hair a deeper shade of blond so it wont blend in with his skin (or give him a deeper skin tone)

Traditionally depicted with red hair but personally I'd stick to blond or a soft orange pink. Like the dawn. ✨MORNINGSTAR✨

Also wrinkles so he looks older and experienced instead of looking like Charlie's twin

His canon outfit is fine it just needs more gold & other accent colors. Preferably blue for holy or green for wealth/envy.

Eyes can be blue or purple for angelic roots

Imma take a page from another Jeremy Jordan character - BLUE HAIR STREAK

Again, adding more blue/purple balances with red and hints to his angelic roots

he wears a mechanic outfit in his down time because he is an active schemer - an inventor if you will - also bc i love a man in goggles

Demon form is a European style dragon for serpent symbolism. Feathered wings you know like how some species of dinos had feathers.

Now for writing. I honestly dont mind him being the goofy ash dad but GIVE HIM EDGE TOO. He talks more elegantly and archaic, everyone can't be sounding like a late 2000s anime forum edgelord. Make him a diabolical mastermind who sees charlie as a disappointment at first then he realizes he isn't treating her better especially when the angels & Adam start messing with her. Stick with him being the villain in adam and eve's story; he isn't let off easy.

He drove Lilith away with his selfish pursuit of Knowledge. He hopes he can win her back but she still dislikes him, she only hears him out for Charlie's sake.

I'm split on the Adam dynamic; on one hand it makes sense considering Luci ruined his life. But I also think Archangel Michael is a worthy opponent because technically have the same ranking, and Michael is the often the one who banishes Lucifer from heaven in the first rebellion. So Luci has a complex dynamic where in a show about grey morality, Michael is justified in cutting him off and NOT demonized for doing so. Hehe. But also with Luci gradually losing family and love he realize he took it too far and tries to be supportive or at least not actively threaten people.

Inaccuracy aside, I don't even really mind that he's a separate entity from Satan. Just make Lucifer a bad boy, a truly bad boy. Make him edgy. Make him elegantly evil. Make him goofy. Just give him depth.

Masters of the Universe newspaper comic: “Attack on Snake Mountain”

Last time, we were introduced to Gwildor, Saurod, Blade and his home planet of Merrian. This story starts with He-Man finding a mystically-protected door in the caverns beneath Castle Grayskull.

Then he turns back into Prince Adam for a ceremony at the palace. While writer Chris Weber chose to write out the two villains introduced in the previous arc, the Heroic Gwildor is sticking around.

Fans often resent Gwildor as a replacement for Orko. He was created for the 1987 film, on which it was decided that they didn’t have the budget for a character who’s always levitating. Here, though, they coexist, and Weber decides to have Gwildor try to befriend the little magician as a science project.

Meanwhile, a rogue guard named Robert has given Duke Tiberon, Eternia’s Prime Minister, a magic amulet that makes him rave about the need to destroy Skeletor.

Over at Snake Mountain, we catch up with Skeletor, who punished Evil-Lyn and Beast Man in the dungeons.

My, aren’t those two cute?

... Clamp Champ, how do you not see the problem with a plan consisting of “Hey! One guy! Journey to a mountain and raze it!”?

Robert is actually working for Skeletor, and this silly plan is actually a false flag planned by Skeletor. I’m not sure why.

The Swamp of Smokes has a tunnel to Snake Mountain, and Castle Grayskull is on the opposite side of it. In the Snake Men arc, it’s also where King Hiss went to release Sssqueeze and Snake Face. In the minicomics, he had to do that at Viper Tower... which lies between Snake Mountain and Castle Grayskull. You could infer that the Swamp of Smokes is what exists on the surface when the Three Towers are NOT raised.

The Sorceress sends He-Man after Clamp Champ, because if Snake Mountain is ever destroyed, Castle Grayskull would be as well. They’re both part of the balance of magic.

OK, I buy the “balance” thing, but “I’ll trick a man into destroying the mountain I live in” MAKES NO SENSE! Not only would it not work when Clamp Champ isn’t Superman, but why would Skeletor want it to?

The Sorceress takes He-Man to the warded door he noticed at the beginning:

Apparently He-Man can’t just travel to the Swamp of Smokes overland like a normal person, but has to use a passage through the Heart of Eternia to catch up with Clamp Champ.

The magic at the Heart of Eternia changes He-Man from just having Good power to “I am the Power!”

When he defeats Skeletor, Teela and Clamp Champ have to stop him from executing Skeletor.

When He-Man chooses to give up absolute power and only use the power of good, the Sorceress seals up access to the Heart of Eternia. THE END.

This marks the last time Chris Weber would introduce new characters from the toy line until the final story arc, which introduced “New Adventures” characters.
