WHY THE DREAM SMP STORY-LINE FELL OFF 100% TRUE FACTS

okaayyy so because it's FINALLY over and its been like nearly two years since significant plot things happened I'd like to talk about the Dream SMP story and my personal theory as to why its narratives and storytelling got progressively worse and/or lost harmony

I think it's because there were two distinctly different styles of "plot" being used at the same time. Or in other words, not everyone was on the same page about the focus of the plot and how the narrative moves.

I think some players were writing with a "character" plot in mind, while others were writing for an "event" plot.

Okay so to understand what I'm saying first we have to identify what the fuck a "character" plot and an "event" plot means.

A "character" plot, in the way I'm using it, means a plot that progresses because of a character's decisions, emotions, and personal growth. The plot moves because of how the character moves, and events occur around the character and the consequences of their actions. An "event" plot can be considered the opposite. The plot progresses as events progress, and the characters react to those events.

I'll try my best to give examples for these but y'know writing is subjective and all that. You can think of a character plot like a character study, like that one Classic Novel "Catcher in the Rye". The "events" of the story are dependent on the main character and his personality. Holden goes through the narrative, commenting on the world around him, moving through the setting, and we see how he slowly comes to terms with growing up and all that. There isn't much conflict, and certainly no conflict that he doesn't initiate himself. Boom. Character Plot.

Versus an Event Plot would be like the Iliad, mythology, or action movies. In mythology there is some character development, but mostly the story follows events that are removed from the agency of the characters. Heracles gets cursed with madness by Hera and kills his family, Theseus is sent by a king as a tribute to the monster, hell even Oedipus was fated to do ...all of that. His whole plot line was about how trying to escape the events laid out for him only fulfilled the events either way. Characters and their actions are defined purely by the events around them.

Sometimes plots can be a combination of two, but you wont have these two opposites at the same time. In Percy Jackson, the titular character goes through character development, but at the end of the day most of the plot happens around and to him, not the other way around. Versus in The Great Gatsby, events play a key role in how the story progresses, but all of the events are effects of character choices and development. You can't have both the events rule the characters and the characters rule the events. At best you can find a happy medium.

OKAY I hope that made sense. Now to apply all that nerd shit to the DreamSMP.

I think the reason the DSMP fell off is because major players, like Wilbur and Tommy, thought of the Plot as a "character plot", and nearly everyone else thought they were in an "event plot".

Characters like cWilbur and cTommy were certainly beholden to events out of their control, but most of their personal story followed their inner worlds, how they reacted to the world around them, and how they changed. Wilbur is a pretty obvious representation of a character story, as most of his plot-line centers around his ambition, paranoia, and mental health. Pogtopia is a good example of this but so is "the Wilbur Van" story-line. Sure, capital e Events happen in "the Wilbur Van", but most of them are a result of Wilbur's decisions, and they follow his development as a character.

cTommy also functions as a "Character" plot and let me argue why. Sure, exile "happens" to cTommy, but the horrors of exile are really how Tommy changes as a person because of it. He reflects on his relationship with others and himself during exile,and concludes that he really is alone, really is worthless. That's the plot of exile. Not just "Tommy is stuck away from New L'manburg", but "Tommy is changing for the worse in exile". And after the exile, a lot of events are a result of his decisions! His decision to hide with Technoblade, his decision to choose Tubbo, you get the point. The story-line around Tommy is very dependent on his growth as a character and how he reacts to the world around him.

Now. This was all well and good while ccWilbur and ccTommy were the ones (sort of) guiding the story progress. However, once the Tommy vs Dream conflict was resolved, and cTommy took a step back to let other characters lead, its pretty clear to see how the narrative became disjointed. Because while Wilbur and Tommy operated with their characters in mind, other players operated with the Events of the Server in mind.

I think the easiest example and the one with the most actual fucking plot would be cTechnoblade. Techno as a character reacts to events that happen to him, and the story focus isn't on how Technoblade's character will change, its on how the character will face the New Event that's happening. The butcher army happens to Techno, and he reacts. Tommy's betrayal happens to Techno, and he reacts. And sure he created the syndicate, but really they were waiting for something to happen to the syndicate so they could react. Technoblade's function isn't to progress the story, rather to react to the story, to survive through it. And to clarify, while this style of storytelling may not be for me, it's not inherently bad. However, I think it becomes detrimental when characters with this function overlap with characters who are meant to be introspective. Because the story of cTechnoblade is not effected by his inner world as a character, the inner worlds of other characters won't effect him either. Thats why cTommy & cTubbo's trauma, and cNiki & cRanboo's relationship with dream get trivialized and undermined, because those plot-lines literally cannot inform Techno's plot-line, it's not how he functions as a character.

And that makes me sound like I'm blaming cTechno, and by extension ccTechnoblade, for the servers problems, but I'm really not. I think every other player on that server fell for the same trap of assuming the Dream SMP was an events server.

At the risk of coming off as a massive bitch, I think post Disc Finale there was a glaring amount of "characters waiting around for things to happen". With the egg plot-line, everyone established that "yeah I know what the egg is and I either hate it/love it/don't care", but after that initial encounter, most characters were waiting for it to do something.

And if you're just waiting around for the world to do something, that's fucking boring. I think maybe the only content creator who realized this was Quackity, because after the disc finale cQuackity was one of the first characters to Start Doing Shit. And coincidentally, cQuackity's narrative is one of the final interesting stories from the DSMP, and it's very character driven.

And when you consider that so many people were treating the DSMP as "events happen and I react", then the communication issues make a lot more sense. Players couldn't just make their own story-line, because that's not how they thought the story worked.

And like, I can't exactly blame everyone for thinking like that, since ccWilbur was the one who wrote the script for Manburg and lead the plot. But still, how do you expect to tell an interesting story if all you're doing is reacting to someone else's??

Anyways. I don't know how to end this because like I could analyze the downfall of Every Single Character through this lens, even cTommy, but that'd be way too long and also nobody wants to read that. Have a good day and I wish you well on your DSMP recovery journey. Adiós!

He had never needed a human name (Phil called him Dave as a joke but only Phil was allowed to do that) when he joined Pogtopia Niki asked for an actual name c!Techno panicked saw Quackity glaring at him and went: Alex! Hey there everyone! I wanted to ask a question of those who follow me regarding my work on Techno. With a recent anon in my inbox today, I wanted to ask, does having my smut (or any works for that matter) of Techno up make folks uncomfortable? I have already taken him off my list of people I write for, noting that I will not be writing for him anymore (it's one thing if it's something regarding SBI, but I don't write directly for Tehcnoblade anymore), but with the recent concern that's been shared, I just wanted to check in with folks.

And since I was not contacted directly (if the anon who sent me their concern sees this, I apologize if I've not given you appropriate time to respond, I just take this seriously), if anyone has solid proof that Techno didn't want nsfw interpretations of his character, please feel free to send it and correct me. I'm a strong believer in boundaries and still intend to take them seriously, regardless of how active or inactive I am in the community.

-As said before, Nemesis is named after the Nemesis the Goddess of Revenge, Retribution, and Fortune. She is an Anthropomorphic creeper like Sam, she wears a mask like him occasionally but most of the times wears which is the skull of a dear with horns.

-Nemesis is 24 years old

- Her parents are unknown, just that they're creepers. However, not long after her parents died when she was about 5 years old (she doesn't remember them) she was adopted by Philza and Mumza (Kristin) making Technoblade, Wilbur, and Tommy her siblings. Also Tehcnoblade and Wilbur are twins (both of them including Tommy are the biological children of Philza and Mumza). She has a biological son who is also a Anthropomorphic creeper named Zephyr of Wind (West Wind). She is his only biological parent as well, he has no father. Baby creepers make a variety of sounds while adults can only chuff, roar, and hiss. Zephyr is also 2, almost 3, years old so he’s still considered a baby.

- She is described by those she meets as "The most prepossessing woman to exist". She has long, fluffy, and beautiful green hair that's slightly wavy. She has pale skin, and her eyes consist of a pitch-black sclera and red glowing irises with long, thick, dark eyelashes. She has a beautiful figure as well (her measurements are Bust 94 cm (37) Waist 58 cm (23) Hips 93 cm (36) Bra Size 37 H Cup. She is also 6'5 ft in height (she a tall bitch). She wears a mask like Sam occasionally but most of the times wears which is the skull of a dear with horns which makes her scary and intimidating. She also has a lot of scars, mainly her stomach and back. She also is jacked, and I mean jacked. She's extremely strong and has both abs and big strong biceps.

- Nemesis is a rational, wise, and incredibly intelligent individual. She is an introverted, patient, and quiet person who wears a solemn, seemingly emotionless, and reserved expression, rarely showing outbreaks of emotion. She is quite cold to you when you first meet her and doesn't hold trust, but she warms up eventually. She is seen as emotionless because of her lack of reaction, she's just good at hiding them. Generally, Nemesis has a matching low and serene disposition. She is very scary and intimidating, just like Technoblade maybe some fear her more than him. Because of her reserved and calm disposition and unchanging facial expression, most can't tell what she is feeling: the only person who can read her feelings without difficulty is her partner/lover Sam and her son Zephyr. Nemesis can be hostile and has a thirst for blood. However, despite having a thirst for blood and fighting she isn't quick to anger nor irrational, she doesn't act upon impulse and thinks her actions through. That's how she and Tehcnoblade can differ at times where he can act on his thirst and impulse. It's a reason why she's hard to defeat in battle. Nemesis is also very resentful, she holds grudges and never forgets when someone wrongs her. She can be quite revengeful and extremely unforgiving, willing to kill those who've wronged her, she seeks Retribution and blood. She's very resilient and doesn't give in easily. She is quick witted and clever, having a sharp and silver tongue. While she is rational and can manage to not give in, she does have weaknesses that make her do so at times. Nemesis is not afraid to get in harm's way, protecting friends and family from harm's way. She loves and cares deeply for her friends, family, and especially her partner/lover Sam and her son Zephyr. This is a weakness of hers that might make her act on impulse and irrationally, act on Retribution and blood to spill. Despite being emotionless, cold, and opposed to affection, she secretly likes it. She is a softy secretly on the inside. She is also quite motherly and while bad at affection and comforting, she makes do. In simple terms, she's a conflicting person but that's what makes her so lovable to those around her. - She also kinda adopted Ranboo so he is also her son and he's completely fine with it, even calls her mom. Michael has called her nana and mama (he calls her this as his grandmother not as in his mother, I know people who call their grandma mama so he will do that as well)

- She also has a large trident like Sam, they're twinning

The moment they where out of sight Quackitys sugar sweet smile fell away. “What the hell are you doing?!“ Techno yanked out of his grip. “I was introducing them to the wonders of anarchy. Quackity’s wings flared and it was more then a bit amusing to see him this pissed off. “You can’t! My country is a capitalist utopia.”

Techno rolled his eyes. “That’s an oxymoron.” He explained in what he thought was a very reasonable way. To his dismay if anything Quackity seemed to get angrier. “What the fuck did you just call me pal?” Tehcno stared at him. “You are so lucky you’re pretty. I really can’t see any other reason you became Vice President much less President.” Quackity flinched back for a half second before baring his teeth golden tooth flashing in the sunlight. “Fuck. You.” He spat half shaking with anger. “Listen Buddy-.” “Quackity?”

They both turned to see Sam awkwardly standing to the side. His eyes narrowed when they meet Techno. A clear warning. Gods Techno really didn’t want to have to murder one of Quackity’s friends that would be embarrassing for both of them. Especially sense Sam was like one of Quackity’s only friends. Not that he cared about how the duck hybrid felt it was simply polite. Tehcnoblade was a polite guy. Luckily he was pretty sure it would be easy to sell this whole crazy in love bit.

Oh we’re fine!” Techno laughed. Without thinking he scooped up Quackity hiding a smirk at the others surprised yelp. Techno shifted him so the smaller was bridal style in his arms. Quackity pressed his lips to Techno’s ears. “Put me the fuck down. Or I swear to all the gods I’ll kill you.”

“We where just arguing about couple things” Techno said ignoring the death threats. “Like uh what to have for dinner.” He was stumbling over his words more so then usual but it was hard to focus when Quackity was explaining in detail how he would eat Technos organs if he didn’t put him down right the fuck now- “We hate each other!”

Based on the movies he watched hating each other seemed like essential part of being married. In all honestly Techno didn’t really have any idea what married couples did. Wilbur’s mother had never been in the picture and he had only meet Sally once during thanksgiving. Phil and Wilbur had fought and then Sally and Wilbur got in a screaming match and she threw a turkey out the window. That did not seem like a healthy thing to base a marriage off and anyway Quackity didn’t seem to like when anyone besides him yelled. He couldn’t fake it either since he’d never really liked someone in the ways he read about.

Techno thought he had done a pretty good job but both Sam and Quackity where looking at him oddly. Time for brave retreat in the opposite direction then. “We’re going to leave now.” Techno announced and booked it towards the cafe.
