Something’s Fishy
Lando Norris x sushi chef!Reader
Summary: having a boyfriend who refuses to touch seafood is pretty hard when your whole life revolves around it, luckily you have a plan to fix that
Tumblr media
You let out a deep sigh as you stare at the frozen fish sticks sitting on the counter. This is not how you imagined your relationship with Lando would be when you decided to become a sushi chef.
You knew he was a picky eater, but you didn’t realize just how deep his aversion to fish went. Still, you’re determined to slowly open his mind, one tiny step at a time.
“Lando, honey, can you come here for a second?” You call out sweetly.
He wanders in, that charming smile crossing his face when he sees you. “What’s up, babe?”
You sidle up close, running your hands slowly up his chest. “I have a little proposition for you,” you say with a flirty lilt.
His eyebrows raise. “Oh really? I’m intrigued …”
“I know you’re not a fan of fish but I was thinking maybe you could try just one teensy little fish stick.” You reach behind you and grab one, holding it up. “I’ll make it worth your while …”
He frowns slightly. “Babe, you know I don’t do fish.”
You pout dramatically. “What if I gave you a nice long kiss afterwards? To get the taste out of your mouth?”
Lando wavers, clearly tempted. “I dunno …”
Time to turn up the charm. You press yourself against him, looking up with wide, pleading eyes. “Pretty please? It would mean so much …” You flutter your eyelashes.
He sighs, a rueful grin on his face. “Fine, one fish stick. But that better be one hell of a kiss!”
You beam, handing him the fish stick. He eyes it dubiously, then takes a small bite. You watch anxiously as he chews slowly, finally swallowing with a grimace.
“There! That wasn’t so bad, was it?” You say brightly.
“I guess not,” he concedes. “Now, I believe you promised me a kiss?”
You grin and throw your arms around him. “With pleasure!” You give him a long, deep kiss, hoping to make him forget all about the fishy taste.
When you finally pull back, he seems mollified. “Not bad, babe. Not bad at all.”
Maybe this won’t be as impossible as you thought. If you can get Lando to eat one measly fish stick, perhaps you can slowly work your way up to actual fish. After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day.
***
It’s been a few weeks since the Great Fish Stick Challenge and you feel like it’s time to try again with Lando. This time, you’re determined to get him to try some actual fish — specifically, a nice salmon fillet.
You’ve marinated the salmon in a delicious teriyaki sauce, knowing the sweetness will help offset the fishy flavor that Lando hates so much. As the fish cooks, the savory aroma fills the kitchen. Lando wanders in, sniffing the air.
“Mmm, something smells good. What’s cooking?”
You give him your most winning smile. “Oh, just whipping up a little something. Why don’t you have a seat?”
He sits at the counter as you plate up the salmon, along with some chicken fried rice — his favorite. You place the dishes down with a flourish.
“Ta-da! Teriyaki salmon!”
Lando eyes the fish warily. “Baaaabe,” he whines. “You know I don’t do fish.”
You come around behind him, massaging his shoulders. “I know, I know. But remember how well you did with the fish stick? I thought maybe we could try again, move up to the next level.” You kiss his neck teasingly.
“Please? For me?” You purr in his ear.
He shivers a little at your touch. “You drive a hard bargain. I guess I can suffer through a bite or two.”
“Yesss!” You cheer, kissing his cheek.
Lando cuts off a small piece of salmon and pops it in his mouth. You hold your breath, waiting for his reaction.
He chews slowly. “Hmm not bad,” he mumbles through the mouthful. “The teriyaki helps.”
You beam. “I’m so proud of you!”
Lando preens a little at the praise. “Yeah, yeah. Don’t get too cocky — I’m still not sold on this whole fish thing.”
But as you continue to watch him eat, clearing over half his plate, you can’t keep a smug grin off your face. Another victory for you! At this rate, you just may make a fish lover out of Lando yet.
***
This is it — the moment you’ve been waiting for. After the successful salmon dinner, you finally feel ready to tackle the ultimate challenge: getting Lando to try sushi.
You’ve closed the restaurant for the night, so it’s just the two of you. The sushi bar is covered in an array of expertly crafted sashimi, nigiri, and rolls. You’ve prepared Lando’s favorites — cucumber, avocado, tamago. And of course, an assortment of sushi with raw fish.
As Lando walks in, his eyes widen. “Whoa, you really went all out! What’s the special occasion?”
You smile coyly. “I wanted to have a little sushi date night. Just you and me.”
You pat the stool next to you. He sits and you hand him a pair of chopsticks.
Lando eyes the raw fish sushi warily. “You know I’m not gonna eat that, right?”
“Oh ye of little faith,” you tsk. “Haven’t I proved I can get you to try new things?”
You select a tuna nigiri, holding it up enticingly. “I just ask for one little bite. That’s all.”
Lando wavers. You up the ante, leaning in close.
“I promise to make it worth your while later …” you whisper suggestively.
His eyes darken. “Well, when you put it that way …”
Heart pounding, you feed him the nigiri. He chews slowly, contemplatively.
“Huh. It’s … not terrible.”
You want to jump for joy. Instead, you settle for just kissing his cheek. “See? You can handle a little raw fish.”
“Yeah, yeah, don’t let it go to your head,” he grumbles, but you can tell he’s pleased.
You spend the rest of the evening feeding each other bites of sushi, laughing together. It’s perfect. And as you gaze lovingly at Lando, you know that somehow, someday, you’ll make a sushi lover of him yet. Patience and persistence are key. But you can be very persuasive when you want to be ...

nibbling on some amazing teriyaki chicken on a stick and growing increasingly annoyed at the fact that it should be a certain unhinged austrian taking me on his lap and feeding me morsels and telling me how good i'm being eating my dinner without fussing, so i could purr against his chest and rub my cheeks on his pecs to mark him as a safe human.
i would accidentally prick and scratch him with my claws to rearrange myself on his thighs, but he would be patient and do nothing more than tsk-tsking and removing my nails from his t-shirt and pat my head to let me know he is not angry that i prickled him or poked little holes in his clothes, because he knows kittens have claws, but they don't mean anything by them.
they just don't know how sharp they are yet and he is understanding enough to wait for me to sort that out on my own.
well, that took a turn.......................

hi, v!!!!
in your wips I saw an omegaverse fic. and as a former omegaverse fanfiction fan, I have only one question.
WHAT KEIGO SMELLS LIKE???
usually I liked more fics with more detailed descriptions of the smells, like the specific type of things. "he smelled like fresh raspberries you find in summer" I'M CRINGE AND I'M OKAY WITH IT
so personally I would lean into some symbolic shit. but nothing comes to mind at the moment. so I would love to hear your thoughts!!!
pls don't say teriyaki chicken...
anyways
have a nice day!!!!!!
💥
I HAVE OPINIONS ON THIS I describe him a few times as smelling like warm trees but also very human. Sturdy, earthy, and undeniably masculine. It's a very human warmth smell, like Keigo smells like warm skin and the barrel of a solid chest you can press your cheek into while listening to his even, stabilizing breaths.
I think he wears cologne, but very sparsely; and that scent kind of enhances his natural scent, but you can definitely pick up on it. He only sticks to one signiture cologne.
I picked these for symbolic reasons as well as comfort too! Resilience/sturdiness, freedom, and personhood. Plus he just looks like he smells like warm person and trees, to me.
Idk how to describe it! It's masculine. He smells like how a muscular bicep feels to hold for comfort. And also like trees.
After his work shifts, though, that scent gets mixed in with sweat— but it's not bad or unpleasant. It's kinda nice. He showers pretty quickly after he gets home, though.

okay. I'm gonna make this post because I really struggle with eating semi decently and this is Helpful to me, so hopefully it will be Helpful to someone else.
Do you also struggle with cooking consistently? Hate dishes? Hate chopping? Would rather eat a box of crackers for dinner because it's easier and less mess than cooking? Okay I have a recipe for you. And some tips.
Your new best friend: a rice cooker if you don't have one. Save the rice+water amount instructions somewhere (I have them screenshotted in my phone) you can have rice in like under 30min. Sometimes under 20. Yknow what you can do with rice? Put sauce on it. Can of beans. Salsa. Salsa AND sour cream holy!! I recently discovered teriyaki sauce is actually hella easy to make, when I have a few extra spoons.
You can make rice with just water!!! Easy!! Or you make it with broth or stock from the store also easy!! Extra flavour!! Sometimes I put a bay leaf in while it's cooking c:
Okay next best friend. Big bag of frozen boneless chicken breasts. Lasts for-fuckin-ever. And you say Anni defrosting meat is so hard 😭 I getchu. Actually once I learned how to use my microwaves defrost setting it only takes like 15 min!!! BUT - you do not have to defrost these chicken breasts - you can cook them from frozen! 400° oven or toaster oven, 40min, done. Put some oil or spray some pam on them before you stick em in to keep them from drying out. YES you can season them how you like but they are also Fine without. Esp if you're putting a sauce on em. Yes I am white yes I am pro seasoning. But this is for ppl who are Tired and just want to eat something Hot and Healthy.
So. You are hungry. You put your chicken in the oven and set a timer. Halfway through you start your rice cooker up. Big bang boom they finish Around the same time. Put em in a bowl put some sauce on em. I like to put salsa on. Veggies, protein, AND starch, in less than an hour, with like five minutes max of me actually Doing stuff. I have warm + filling food and have only dirtied the bowl I'm eating from and maybe an oven pan.
Obviously cuz of preferences and dietary restrictions this isn't for everyone, but I thought I'd share a super easy meal and hopefully it helps even just 1 person. And hey, don't fuckin clown on this post - I'd you wanna add your own super easy recipes, or give spice mix suggestions, that's great! but don't be a dick to people who like things plain. it ain't hurting you. Everybody niceys 🤍

flufftober day 3 - kazurei 'say it back'
Title: Say It Back Chapter: 1 of 6 Fandom: Buddy Daddies Pairing: KazuRei (Kurusu Kazuki x Suwa Rei) Rating: Teen (Love Confessions - Domesticated Fluff - Fluff) Word Count: ~1,770 Prompt: "You love me?" / "Always have." Summary: Kazuki had always wanted to be a family man. He never expected it to come about because of a botched job.
A/N: Here is my next offering for Flufftober. :) Please enjoy!
---
Summer was quickly turning to autumn, the leaves beginning to change around the city, the grass becoming a little duller than its vibrant green from the spring. Kazuki looked over at his partner, who was playing Morio Kart with their pseudo-daughter, who was laughing gaily, clearly having the time of her life. Rei, however, looked like he was on the verge of throwing his controller, as Miri was doing a pretty good job of matching him, even though she has no idea what she’s doing.
“Who wants some hamburger steak tonight?” He asked, as he walked back into the living room, the fresh air on the balcony doing him some much needed good. It was a great view, and one he was thankful to have, as Rei could have kicked him out a long time ago. “Or, we can go get something else to eat? Maybe go and eat some sushi?”
“Ew, no, papa!” Miri made a face. “I don’t like fish!”
Rei nodded. “Me either.”
“I made you fish last night!” He reminded them both. He had seared some fresh mackerel, and had served it with some rice and steamed veggies. “You didn’t say anything about it then!”
“Oh, uh….” Miri shook her head. “No raw!”
“Yes, no raw.” Rei also mirrored what their charge was doing.
Kazuki groaned. “Rei, you’re parroting her again!”
“No, I’m not.”
“No, he’s not! Rei Papa isn’t doing that.”
Kazuki narrowed his eyes, waiting for Rei to say something else, but when he didn’t, he exhaled an annoyed sigh. “Fine. No sushi. What about teriyaki? We could get some kebabs?”
“Yummy!” Miri cheered. “Kebabs!”
Rei repeated the food, glaring at the television as he did so, as Miri had thrown the shell that stopped him in his tracks. “Order soon?” Rei looked up at him, the match now over. He had still won, and Miri was happily sliding into last place, giggling all the while as the animation on the screen showed her character looking completely defeated after losing the race.
“What would you do without me?” He asked, reaching for his cell phone to see where there was a good kebab place nearby.
“Starve.” Rei shrugged, then looked at Miri. “Another race, Miri?”
“Yes, Papa!”
He found a place that wasn’t too expensive, and was in the nearby area so he could have it delivered. He ordered a bunch of different kebabs - figuring whatever they didn’t eat tonight, they could have for breakfast tomorrow. It said it would take thirty minutes to arrive, but actually it only took twenty-five minutes.
“Okay, turn the tv off!” He set the kebabs out on a plate, and then set out three plates for them to use. “Dinner’s ready!”
“Yay!” Miri jumped up, and ran to the kitchen. “Up, please, Papa!”
Kazuki happily picked her up, and held her close to the sink where she washed her hands, then set her back down and handed her a towel to dry them off. Rei grabbed two beers from the fridge, and sat down at the table, practically drooling as Kazuki walked back over to the table with Miri.
“Thank you for the food!” Miri cheered as she clapped her hands together, doing what he’d taught her many months ago.
“Good job, Miri-chan!” He saw her smile, as she stared at the food. “Which one would you like first?”
“Chicken, please!”
“You got it.” He picked up a chicken kebab, and pulled it off the stick it was still on, arranging it on her plate. He had put rice into small bowls for them to enjoy. “Now, finish it all, okay?”
“I will, Papa!”
Looking over at Rei, he could see his eyes going back and forth between the different kebabs. “Take whatever you want.” He reached for his own, but apparently it was the same kebab that Rei wanted, as there was a slight tug of war to keep it. He let it go, smiling as Rei looked happy for the small win, which was ridiculous but he saw no harm in it. He picked up another one, and arranged the meat on his plate, the same way he’d done for Miri.
He looked up, and saw Rei was eating the kebab straight from the skewer. “Ahem.” He cleared his throat, and pointed to the plate. Thankfully, Miri was too busy eating to see how Rei was eating, otherwise she would have asked to do it the same way as Rei. His partner sighed, then pulled the rest of the meat onto the plate, and begrudgingly ate the meat in that manner.
It was a nice, quiet dinner. Kazuki couldn’t believe how lucky he was, and how full his heart was. He’d been with Rei a very long time, sometimes so long he felt like they could have been married. With Miri now living with them, it was almost like a proper family. He looked over at Rei, and saw he was splitting a kebab with Miri, as she had asked him to do so as she was a little full but wanted more.
“Rei, you’re on bath duty tonight.”
“You hate me.”
Kazuki chuckled. “You know that’s not true.”
“Yes, it is.”
“Yay! Bathtime with Rei Papa!”
While Rei went on an aquatic adventure with Miri, Kazuki made sure to get everything set for tomorrow’s adventures. He put some of the leftover chicken kebabs into the fridge. They could eat them for breakfast. He knew Rei wasn’t too picky of an eater - if he put it in front of him, he’d eat it.
“Kazuki.” He was just getting Miri’s book back into her backpack when he heard Rei call his name. Miri was resting against his hip, as he held her after getting her dressed for bed. “Miri has asked if she can sleep with us tonight.”
“Please, Papa?” Miri asked, turning to look down at him. “I promise I won’t move around too much!”
He knew that was a lie. But she couldn’t control what her body was doing involuntarily for her. “Sure, Miri-chan. We can have a sleepover tonight.”
“Yay!”
Turning off all the lights, he went upstairs to join Rei and Miri, who were already getting comfortable on his bed. They do this once every week or so, sometimes more. He was beginning to wonder if he should ask Rei if he wanted to sleep with him all the time. Rei slept easier when they were together - not that he would freely admit it. Kazuki knew he slept in the bathtub for his own reasons, and never pried about it before, nor would he now. But he did notice that when Miri suggested these sleepovers, Rei never put up a fight about it.
He grabbed a book to read to Miri from her bedroom, then got into bed with the two of them. “Tonight we’re going to read the story about Goldilocks.”
“She’s such a silly girl!” Miri laughed, as Kazuki got the book ready, making sure she could follow along. “Too many beds to try!”
“Now, now, Miri-chan.” He knew it was one of her favorite stories, and was happy to read it to her again. “No spoiling the ending.”
“Papa!” More peals of laughter left her mouth, as she wiggled back and forth on the bed.
Kazuki smiled, and began to read her the story of Goldilocks on the Three Bears. By the time he got to the end, Miri was already asleep, snoring softly with a smile on her face. He looked over at Rei, and saw that he was staring at him with a very intent stare. His stomach gave a little roll, as he met his gaze, almost afraid to say something, when Rei decided to break the silence first.
“I love you.”
It was said so firmly, that Kazuki had to blink, and had to make sure that he’d heard him correctly. Did Rei just confess his love to him? With Miri snoring, separating the two of them??
“Wait, you love me?” He asked, slightly nervous about what Rei’s response was going to be. Maybe he was really saying it to Miri, as he knew it had taken Rei a bit of time to get used to their new life with Miri heavily involved in it.
“I always have.” Rei shrugged, then turned over, as if his confession wasn’t the most earth shattering confession that Kazuki had ever experienced.
He wanted to ask him why now. Why was he saying this, at such an inopportune time? Was Rei drunk? Was he on drugs? But he wouldn’t take drugs - not with Miri in the house now. So what would have prompted him to say such a thing??
“You’re thinking too loud.” Rei mumbled, his back pointed towards him. One of Miri’s legs was now on his hip, making it so Rei couldn’t move.
“Well, excuse me!” Kazuki half-whispered, half-growled. “You just said you loved me, and turned over! What am I supposed to do?!”
“Say it back.”
He pulled his head back, surprised to hear Rei say that. Did he not reciprocate the love? Oh, shoot. He hadn’t. Damn it. Blushing, he pushed some hair off of his forehead, and took a deep breath. “I love you too.”
“Thank you.” Rei’s back moved a little. “Now, if you don’t mind, I’m going to go to sleep.”
“Eh? Eh??” Kazuki shook his head. “Don’t go to sleep! We need to talk about this!”
“There’s nothing to talk about. Now I’m regretting saying anything to you.” Rei sighed. “Let me sleep, Kaz. I’m tired. Tomorrow is going to be a long day.”
“Okay, fine. But we’re talking about this soon!” He wasn’t about to ignore this conversation completely. “Okay, Rei?”
But Rei didn’t answer. Instead, he heard him snoring in tandem to Miri’s snoring, the sound making the most unique song ever. Kazuki sighed. This was his life now. Sometimes it could be pretty perfect. Other times, it was this. Right now, it was parts perfect and parts unbearable. That’s why earplugs were invented.
So he popped his earplugs in, and settled on his side of the bed. Miri was snoring softly, and as he turned over, he felt Rei’s hand touch his hair. He felt his fingers lightly massage his neck, and then his hand disappeared, leaving him aching for more. But with Miri in bed with them, there wasn’t a whole lot that could be done, nor should they. Kazuki sighed softly, then closed his eyes, hoping that sleep would come fast. They would discuss this sudden confession soon, but would Rei blow it off?
Kazuki was expecting it.

Prowly and I are enjoying a steamed bun and some dumplings before we fly home!
[ID: Prowly, a small owl figurine, is sitting on a dining table. Next to him is a carton labeled "Wow Bao: How Asian Buns" with a pair of chopsticks sticking out of it. Inside are delicious chicken ginger dumplings and a teriyaki chicken steamed bun.]

Launchpad, out of all the foods, why are burritos your favorite?
Tumblr media
Launchpad: Well, burritos are a favorite food, but it's not my MOST favorite food. I also like pizza, sandwiches, tacos, hamburgers, ice-cream, hot dogs, teriyaki chicken, curry, fish sticks, french fries, pie...
Charity: Launchpad doesn't play favorites with food.

Dinner at Watami MOA. Their food was okay though a little overpriced. I'm a katsu and ramen girl through and through so I'd only ever pick these two items from the menu whenever I'm at a Japanese restaurant, but perhaps I should've ordered something else for a change? Like tempura, but I'm not a very big fan of tempura. Or yakitori, but their yakitori costs more or less 500 per five sticks, and you know how small a stick of yakitori is. Chicken teriyaki then? I already ate chicken for lunch. Mama already ordered ramen, so I was left with pork katsu. All I can say is that Yabu is still better.
