The plants fill the house. It almost seems like too much, really, for the space. But Steve will never say that. Billy's survived too long with 'not enough'.

Billy's love fills Steve's heart. It almost feels like too much, really, for the space.

But Billy keeps on giving. And Steve's lived too long with 'not enough'. 'Almost too much' is a welcome change.

Steve comes home with another succulent in a large, yellow pot. Billy smiles, warm and soft, as he finds a space to put it, then he turns to Steve with eyes full of love. Steve finds a place to put it.

Boys don‘t cry is an unspoken law.

When he was a child and the tears ran down his cheeks, they shortly after stinged from Neil‘s slaps. So he tried to blink away his tears, to rub his eyes until the tears were gone, to choke back any sobs.

It doesn‘t always work, even nowadays, and if his dad catches him, the tears turn red.

He is good at hiding it most of the time though. He cries when Steve first falls asleep in his arms and Billy is just so happy.

He didn‘t know he could cry because of feeling so goddamn lucky.

One day they watch Ordinary People together, because Steve just grabbed it from Family Video.

And it‘s so fucking sad.

Billy knows sadness, Billy lives in sadness sometimes, Billy and sadness are one and the same on bad days.

Suddenly the tears are just there and his face is already wet from them before he realizes it and by then… Steve has already seen them.

”Oh, Billy.“ Billy waits for laughter or an insult, because boys don‘t cry.

Steve just hugs them and kisses his tears away. Billy sobs into his chest and cries and cries.

In the end he doesn‘t know why he is crying anymore. But Steve holds him and whispers sweet nothings into his ear.

He cries even harder when he realizes that Steve will be there for him even if he is sad. That he can cry. That it is not a law here.

When I agreed to make something for this event I had no idea what I would do. At first I was going to make some manips or upgrade a few old ones and lay them out like above but then I remembered how much I love silhouette art so thought to myself why not give it a try.

I did and I sort of fell in love with drawing all this with nothing but my plug in mouse on my gaming laptop. Finding ways to make certain areas stand out was so interesting and getting to the end of each page only inspired me to do the next. Which led to me creating edits similar to this outside of this project and I've loved expanding into a new area all because of an idea based on a piece of art on my wall.

I also wanted to make something pretty much any printer could handle and I hope I accomplished that. Along with adding my own personal touch by handwriting the title, sub-title and Billy's little note to Steve before scanning it in and adding it to the zine. It's not the most amazing piece of art but I'm rather proud of it and so excited to finally share it! Thanks if you read this cheesy ramble lol

Fic self-rec meme thing!

Super huge thanks to @shiftylinguini for tagging me in this—I'm flattered! The rules:

Recommend us 3 of YOUR fics: 1 that is “most popular” and 2 that are “hidden gems.” Then tag some folks.

My "most popular" varies a bit depending on whether you sort by kudos or hits, though (unsurprisingly) they're two of my smuttiest. Sunflower, my Harringrove roommate AU, is perennially at the top and has the most kudos. In retrospect, this probably isn't surprising—it's an undemanding bit of porny romance-y fun, easy to read but (I suspect) ultimately forgettable. Quickly, look away, on the other hand, has fewer kudos but almost half again as many hits—it's a much darker take on their dynamic, and I suspect it sticks in people's minds (and thus lends itself to rereading) in a way the first one doesn't.

As for hidden gems...hm. Imperfect as it is (and, in the light of S4 of Stranger Things, as out of character as Robin is), I'm still very proud of Wake Me Up. I wrote it for an exchange where I'd been assigned @rhubarbdreams, after flaking on him in a different exchange when life came down on me—so when I looked at his prompts and immediately hit upon a concept, it felt like being given a second chance by Fate. And to date it remains the most ambitious story I've managed to finish—two weeks before the due date, I took a look at the half-finished manuscript I'd gotten stuck on, decided I wasn't disappointing him again, and buckled down. (I'm still incredibly grateful to my poly family for taking up the slack while I basically disappeared into that writing/editing hole.)

Moving into a different fandom entirely, another one I'm particularly proud of is Young At Heart. Inspired by a comparatively goofy conversation with @notwhatiam where she demanded to see Grandpa getting high with David, it turned into a rather elegaic meditation on aging, and loss, and what we lose when we trade our humanity for the (false) promise of a life without grief. (With an undercurrent of homoeroticism, because it wouldn't be David—or me—without it, but oddly, I think Aloysius Emerson is the straightest character I've ever written.) It's my least-read story—unsurprisingly, as it's for a tiny fandom for a 35-year-old movie, featuring no major pairings, set 30 years before the film, and different enough in tone that it's practically an original story—but it's one of the ones I'm happiest with, in part because I've gotten some of the most thoughtful and incisive comments from the people who have read it.

@gothyringwald​ Thanks so much for putting this together!  Okay, reading other people’s Harringrove makes me feel kinda triggery about abuse stuff and also UNTALENTED so I miss out on a lot of fantastic things, but I have stumbled into a few wonders, and here’s some art I specifically need to yell about!

ART:  It starting to look like, Christmas !~ by @b-leach-ing​​, or Peanut_Boi on Ao3!  Check out this one too!  The four arts on Ao3 are all soft and adorable!  Look at Billy’s tum here!  XD  He’s so comfy he’s drooling!  Steve’s lil smirk!  Soft in their sweaters!  <3 <3 <3 Amazing

STORY:  Five times that someone gave Billy the shovel talk by Thei!  Steve’s friends go a lot little overboard on the shovel talks, and Billy starts questioning himself, and their relationship, and whether he can try hard enough.  The last chapter is such a satisfying close!  Sweet friendship and funny dialogue! Hurt/comfort ftw! 

ART: Random Harringrove/Stranger Things doodles by Ihni!  If you haven’t clicked through these, do yourself a favor, they’re glorious and comfy and hilarious!  @ihni​ is some kind of joy fairy!  They’re so expressive, I love them!  I could write endless stories based on her art.  If you ever need inspiration, look through these delights!

Story:  When Blue Met Pink by mourntheantagonist!  Billy feels safe enough with Steve to take some risks with things he’d always wanted to try...like lipstick, and he makes a friend of Joyce Byers.  Soft and lovely!

ART: Commission for me by the incomparable @gravegroves​!  If you’re in this fandom and not aware of Gravegroves, you haven’t been paying attention, but I have to wail about this one anyway--look at the light!  His hair!  The way it looks like he’s in motion, like he’s rocking his hips to the music!  He’s gone somewhere inside his head, here, only thinking about the drums and the feel of the lipstick on his chest!  Gorgeous hands, gorgeous everything!  Gravegroves is another one who has it all, read their fic, too, it’s powerful and wonderful!

STORY:  Fingers in his hair by Ihni  A poem about how Billy reacts to waking to someone’s gentle touch.  Ihni is good at everything.

ART: @wrecked-fuse​ I feel a little guilty including such a fabulous BNF in a “give more attention to these people” list, but fox here is the reason I’m in the Harringrove fandom at all.  I’ve written fic before but never gotten into the fandom, but once I saw these floating around, I wanted to write more, and more, and hover around all these talented people like a fan at their con table.  Thank you for existing, @wrecked-fuse​!

🍒Cherry Recs Some… ART! (Part 1) 🍒

For @gothyringwald‘s  Harringrove Feedback Fest

I HAVE to start this with @ihni ​ and her doodles because HOW CAN I NOT? They’re a fandom staple! (And yes I HAVE linked to her entire Doodle tag because going throught them ALL is a glorious way to spend a few minutes. I STILL laugh out loud at her genius and her comedy, and then one will hit me which is just such a perfect, romantic moment that my heart fills with love.) Naturally gonna pick the adorable Demon Billy one she did for my fic! (And OH that feeling when Ihni spots one of your fics or posts and is like ‘yeah I’m gonna doodle this?? UNPARALLELED! I was grinning for like a week after she did this!) All of her April prompts were genius, but I’m gonna have to pick Butterflies because of Steve’s lil love struck expression and then the hilarity that is Billy in the second one! Pure cartoon flailing!! And then, for a different seasons vibes, here’s a wintery one that got me thinking of so many lovely ‘Billy’s first snow’ thoughts.

And OK. A SECOND bullet point for @ihni ​ cause she can ALSO do these heart stoppingly beautiful realistic pieces like Flower Crown Billy and then ones that break your heart like This Billy and THEN such an adorable, beautiful lil Steve. And. Yeah. Basically go and look at Inhi’s Art tags and just lose yourself for a whole morning. You will thank me!

Now  @monochromegee is my beloved. EVERYTHING they draw is gold and has me gasping from how utterly brilliant their mind is. Lake is my happy place. It is beyond adorable and I have saved it to look at whenever I need an instant happiness boost.  The same goes for their Raccoon pic, just LOOK at Billy’s face! And then the emotion that Gold stirs in me still? Those EYES? Glorious. Mono’s Media tab on Twitter is a DELIGHT to go through.

@juu-riin  is a GENIUS. THEIR MIND. Their ideas! Lost in the Supermarket Billy and Steve (Parts 1 and 2) still have my giggling at Steve’s FACE and Billy’s whole EVERYTHING. And their doodles. It’s impossible to actually pick a favourite BUT there is such a mix of things like cute shell collecting and hilarious domestic boys and drunk!Steve antics and you just KNOW you’re in for a treat when they share a thread of them! And then they ALSO do things like Monster Hunting Boyfriends which is EVERYTHING! If you are every feeling any kind of sadness, Julie’s art will heal you RIGHT back up.

@opaldraws ​ OH OPAL! Softness and sweetness and such lovely drawings that make me melt into a puddle! Slightly NSFW lingerie boys has me salivating! LOOK at Billy’s arms and Steve’s moles and that beautiful lacy lingerie and the look of love and lust in their eyes! And then she goes and fixes Season 3 by giving us the ending we deserved (my HEART is healed with this one). And then this one of Steve in THAT perfect outfit because we ALL need more of that look in our lives!

@gravegroves ​ is​ another one of those artists who blows me away every single time they post! I salivate over their sneak peaks, and then I am just lost for words when they post masterpieces like Rainbow Billys (which shows how incredibly skilled they are! The different hairstyles and expressions?? I could (and most likely DID) stare at every single one for hours! And the Billy playing Violin one? It just conjures up SUCH an atmosphere, a whole story playing out so vividly that I can SEE him moving and playing, I can HEAR the music, I can SEE Steve standing there watching, and the moment that Billy notices and doesn’t even falter, doesn’t even miss a note, just raises an eyebrow and smirks and maybe instantly segues his tune into one that’s a little in-joke between him and Steve. So, yeah. Their art INSPIRES me. And I’m sure it’ll inspire you too.

@lazybakerart ​ pretty much got me into this fandom, first with fic and then with art.  They’re another artist I could just rec absolutely anything by and your jaw would drop and you’d be instantly hooked on their work BUT I HAVE to show off their Valentine’s Cards because I STILL grin everytime I see them. Those expressions! THAT HAIR! So utterly unmistakably LazyBaker!  And then there’s His and His Too which is so heartwarming and SO THEM. Just LOOK at Billy’s smirk! And that hand hold! 🥰 And this Street Surfing Billy where I can just FEEL those long, hot summer nights, I can HEAR the music from the houses and the cars he passes, and then the long stretches where it’s nothing but the whoosh of his wheels on the asphalt (until he skids to a halt outside a certain Loch Nora house of course and a pretty boy kisses all his freckles...)

@sasha-uria I w​ill NEVER tire of looking at their cosy nerd Billy and cosy romantic Steve and feeling an utter wave of calm and warm wash over me. And there are just so many little details to notice- Steve’s hand on the necklace, Billy’s lil curls and his bun, the pillows and rumpled sheets that you KNOW are squishy and sleep warm and just...COSY. That’s the vibe!

1. why did you choose your URL?

it's a line from a NIN song, 'I do not want this' that got stuck in my mind long ago. It says 'I've lived so many lives. All in my head' and the moment i heard it I thought yes. Sums me up and my inability to do reality pretty well.

2. any side-blogs? if you have them, name them and why you have them.

yep. a few. i've got @withoneheadlight, where i spend most my time here, in my beloved harringrove fandom <3, and then i have a few where i basically save things that interest me in different categories.

3. how long have you been on tumblr?

uh, technically a few years?. I've had a few different accounts that I always ended up forgetting about. But had never really used tumblr until this past last year and a half.

4. do you have a queue tag?

I use the most simplistic 'queue' ... when I remember to put it on XD (which, I should, because I'm always so worried people think I'm in here ignoring them when in reality what I usually have is the longest queue)

5. why did you start your blog in the first place?

this one used to be my inspiration sterek blog for a fic I was writing at that time (4 years ago?) so there's basically all sterek at the bottom. but now I have @ivoryhead for that and this one has become my personal blog, since is my main.

6. why did you choose your icon/pfp?

because billy hargrove in profile + light blue + a distant, cool sun? one of the most beautiful things i've ever seen. also, it has some sort of melancholy that just, gets to me.

7. why did you choose your header?

because that's Cannon Beach, where a few scenes from the goonies were filmed, and where are the rocks carved into the doubloon. I always end up mixing the goonies in everything I do because gosh, I'd live in the feeling of that movie if I could choose. 80s kids + pirate stories. doesn't get better than that for me.

8. what’s your post with the most notes?

oh, i dunno? probably is this dumb star wars/stormpilot comment xD

I honestly don't know, but they all are amazing mutuals <3

tbh i really like how tumblr doesn't show the follower count? i LOVE the ones i have (hiiiiiiiiiii!!! 😘😘😘) and it's always 🎉🎉🌟🌟🌟🎉🎉🎉 getting new followers but i still think is better that is hidden, for many different reasons.

and thank you for this message. I was honestly delighted to receive it, because I was beginning to feel a bit left out.

You’re right; I will probably continue to make my crappy little comics - because I like making them, and some people that I like and respect seem to get a kick out of them, too. In a way, it’s my humble way to pay back to a fandom that has been nothing but warm, welcome and awesome in every way. I am constantly amazed by the talented and creative people in this fandom, and although I may not have much to offer, these will have to do for now.

That said, it’s never been a wish of mind to subject anyone to them, who don’t like them. If they make you uncomfortable or angry, you can block the tag “ihni doodles”, as that is what I’m using to tag all of them with. If my mere existence is an offence to you, then thankfully it’s easy to remedy: You can block me easily on tumblr (if you don’t know how to, it’s easy to google it, or you can write me again and I’ll tell you how). If that’s not enough, you can write me off anon and request that I block you, too. That way, we’ll both have taken the necessary steps to ensure that you won’t have to see my cringe comics. (This goes for anyone who wants to; I won’t be offended, I promise. I never take it personally when people don’t like my so-called “art”, because art is a subjective thing, and entirely in the eye of the beholder.)

I have to tell you that I will probably never run out of new content - inspiration, perhaps, but content? Never. We create the content in this fandom (as well as in many others) - which is honestly why I love fandom so much. The creativity, the productivity, the sheer insanity of it all. As long as I will want to draw Billy, I will have plenty of material to use (and if I don’t, I’ll make it up. I just put him in a skirt dressed as a metalhead!cinderella ffs. There are no limits to what fans can and can’t do).

I personally don’t care much if Billy and Steve share any screentime this season (although I know many who do care, and I sure wouldn’t mind it! It would be awesome!). I care about Billy as a character, period. I’d watch eight episodes of him cleaning the bathroom, or changing the tires of his car, or scratching rude comments into school property with his keys. So I am understandably thrilled for season 3, as it seems I’ll at least get a lot of him. See, he’s my favourite character. And as such, I’ll enjoy it if he simply hangs out with Tommy & Carol. I’ll enjoy it if he yells at kids at the pool. I’ll enjoy it if he banters with Max. I’ll enjoy it if he goes full villain. I’ll enjoy any and all interaction between him and any of the other characters I love (I am overjoyed that it seems he’ll interact with El, and I would kill for a glaring contest between him and Dustin, or for Lucas to confront him about what he did, or for him to have a stilted conversation with Hopper, or for any kind of meeting between him and Joyce - and yes, I would also sell my first born* for scenes with Steve, because I love him too). But most of all - I’ll enjoy all the fanworks that I know will follow. Because I love everybody in this bar :D

I’m sorry this got so long - I got excited! But please know that if you ever feel like writing me again, or to discuss anything about Stranger Things (or other things, really), feel free to do it off anon - I swear that I will always answer privately if I’m asked to do so.

Also, it seems that we have our love for Stranger Things in common - you, like me, can’t wait for Season 3. We’re both looking forward to it (although perhaps for slightly different reasons - but I’ll bet that many reasons are probably the same, too). The end result is the same: two happy people, watching a show they’re invested in, with characters they’ve grown to love. (Just a few days to go now, that is INSANE!! :D )

What do you think is the best way to adapt/be inspired by Berserk without fully ripping it off?? I want to write a story with similar ideas n characteristic of Berserk, but I want to make sure I’m not copying it. Thanks

Honestly, ihni where that line is drawn lol, I don’t think I’ll be any help. Sorry, I wish I could give you a good thorough answer, but I‘d just as likely be completely wrong lol and accidentally advise plagiarism or smthn.

I hope you figure it out though and write your thing because any story inspired by some aspects of Berserk is probably worth writing!

3. What ideas come from when you were little

None. At least not that I would know of. It's just not the kind of art and themes I draw, I guess.

5. Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself

I post all of it online XD Some of it might take forever because it stays in a very early WIP phase (We are talking stick figures) or has a restriction on it for like a zine, but eventually, I post all of it online. I usually only work on stuff I enjoy and like to finish what I have started.

I also don't do sketchbook stuff (I should probably)

The only things I haven't posted online are probably very personal commissions, but there are about only 3 that come to mind (And 2 of them were at least posted to Patreon)

These might be the people that I follow that have the furthest styles from mine. Of course, there are a ton more artists out there that are just so goddamn talented! My brain explodes every day anew.
