Ellen the narehate
The Witch's House: The Diary of Ellen + Made in Abyss spoilers
In the Diary of Ellen manga, there's a scene where for a brief moment, I felt joy for Ellen despite knowing what a horrible person she is.
It's the one where she's running in Viola's body and she's just overjoyed to finally, after a couple hundred years, be able to run without trouble and breathe clearly and just... be healthy. Something she always felt that other people take for granted because they don't realize how painful her disease was and how much it limited her. And she's thinking the words to herself in near-disbelief, processing the fact that it's real. She then hugs herself and kisses her shoulder. Not only feeling relief, but pure happiness at finally achieving the one desire she always had. Such a simple thing that should have been hers inherently, but that, in her view, was unfairly kept from her all her life.
With all that said, I'd love to give her the Mitty treatment! >:3 See how she finally loses her mind trapped in a blob body like that. Then Viola's ghost can haunt her or some shit idk.
Or just stick her in a Danganronpa execution hehe. It would work since despair is the key to a witch's death. 8D
Tbh though, I do love the idea of Made in Abyss AUs for Ellen especially. Like, sure, there's the idea of her getting ultra karma by becoming a narehate in the way you really DON'T want to. But on the other hand, what about an AU where she and Viola were genuine friends and Viola ended up essentially in Mitty's position, a sacrifice that gave Ellen a new fluffy narehate body? She would finally be healed from her sickness (says me, idk), but she would be alone without her one true friend.
It just reminds me of that line Nanachi says, "even though I know I didn't receive this body just to lie around and sleep all the time." I think Ellen would live out that ideal whether it's canon her or AU her. Everything she went through just to finally be able to run freely and explore what the world has to offer? She wouldn't spend another full day indoors, that's for sure!

You know how there were survivors of Kronos' army but never ended up in camp half blood. Imagine if they went to camp jupiter instead. Imagine if they had to fight their siblings who they grew up with, cared for and fought with.
And also imagine the potential angst such as siblings/friends being split up and relations torn just because they didn't want to go to chb. Like imagine Alabaster and Lou Ellen trying to iris msg eachother but being unable to because imagine if contact between campers and past members of kronos' army who weren't in chb was forbidden. And Alabaster not being in the god's favour.
And imagine if demigods had mortal half siblings who were expecting them to be home because they were one of the few who cared for them but only for them to never show up again because they died.
I really want angst between siblings.

Those early days with the twins were chaotic, and both were up at the oddest hours of the night. Though both were apprehensive, it was Walter who got over his fears and was able to bond with his children first. It didn't hurt that they both looked exactly like him.
Mell, however, still felt her resentments and doubts. She loved her children, but she knew that--as supportive as Walter was--she would be their primary caregiver. Mell feared she lacked the patience, and didn't feel ready to lose herself in motherhood.
To cope with her stress, Mell became an avid diarist, venting her frustrations and feelings about the world around her. She did this in the privacy of their new upstairs bedroom.

The true nail in the coffin
I wrote this like last month and wanted to share it here too.
The Witch's House + Diary of Ellen spoilers
Oh my god...
After reading the prequel manga, I understood what "Medicine to Kill Me" means. It's meant to fill Ellen with despair so she will give up on life and die, if she so chooses.
And this concept of "a witch can only die if she chooses to WHILE despairing" makes Viola's death even more sad to me than it already was. She was able to use Ellen's magic and she was able to keep pushing forward despite being so badly injured that she realistically should have already been dead, because she didn't want to give up on her father. She was afraid of what would happen to him if Ellen got her hands on him.
Viola didn't die because she was blasted through the head twice by a shotgun. She died because being called a monster and shot like that by her own father, the one person she loved the most, and being rendered helpless to ever reach her father again... filled her with so much despair that she finally gave up. Losing her eyes, legs, and throat weren't enough to kill her. Losing her father was the killing blow.
And god damn, this story really knows how to twist the knife. <333 It's so perfectly crafted so that every detail adds to the weight of the tragedy.

alrighty, so I finally finished It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover... and I don't think it's glorifying abusive relationships or anything? Quite the opposite, it pretty clearly goes on about how it's not okay to do the things the abuser is doing at all. It's showing how these situations can happen and how people choose to deal with them and work things out with each other through the complicated feelings and decisions that arise from them, basically. Wasn't the best book I've ever read but wasn't the worst one either, and I think the author's note at the end goes over her reasons for writing it and personal experiences related to it pretty well
