Tumgik
#the drama. but megumi doesn’t speak of them by name. he just calls them the dogs. tsumiki is the one who kept their name alive
First off, the way you write Tsumiki is so beautiful and makes so much sense and I would die for her. Also, Tsumiki/Maki is fucking inspired. It fits so perfectly within the story and fleshes out both of their characters and I have so many feelings about it.
What you wrote about the cause of the no-contact fits so well with the Zenin how do you even come up with this!! And it also reframes so many scenes in sea glass gardens (specifically, I went to double check bc I just realized that Tsumiki still refers to Megumi’s dogs by their names and they still reapond to them. I am going to cry Megumi deserved so much better). Nanami is absolutely insane in the best way for demanding half custody like he seems like he’d be willing to throw hands over it regardless of the cost to himself and it’s so perfect with how much he (like Gojo) believes so much in protecting children. I have more words to say but not the brainspace to say them bc it is late at night for me. But! I would die for you and your writing thank you so much for getting into jjk
I’m soo glad that y’all liked Tsumiki/Maki too. The versions of them that live in my head just fit together like puzzle pieces. They were each other’s foil and they understood the other all the more for being what the other had chose not to be. Tsumiki had chosen her sibling and Maki had chosen herself, and both of them know what it means to have those be mutually exclusive.
Also the version of Tsumiki that lived in my head violently hates the Zenin and I could not imagine anything more attractive to Maki. Tsumiki would firebomb their compound without hesitation or regret. Maki wants to kiss her on the mouth.
Tsumiki very purposefully was designated as the character who would keep calling the dogs by their names, because she’s the one who most aggressively tries to insulate Megumi from the effects of the jujutsu world on him.
Tsumiki knew Kuro and Shiro longer than anyone. She remembers when Megumi first summoned his puppies. She knows exactly how much he loves them and she knows exactly how badly he must have been hurt to push him to never call them by their names again. Those dogs mean the world to him, and she knows it.
In her mind, what Megumi lost wasn’t his love for his dogs. If he lost that, she thinks he’d be more willing to call them by their names—names are just easy ways of distinguishing them, after all. They’re already named. He’s only inconveniencing himself by never saying their names aloud.
She thinks Megumi stopped calling them by name as a way of protecting them from the Zenin clan.
He never saw his family again, is the thing, but the Zenin have always existed on their periphery. They know that the Zenin haven’t lost interest in him. Gojo tries to shield them (but mostly Megumi) from as much of the Zenin as possible, but they know that the Zenin have been prodding them for more contact and information on Megumi ever since Gojo cut them off. And they know that the Zenin have a lot of contact with the jujutsu world. They both assumed that, over the years, plenty of people have reported back to the Zenin on Megumi.
They trust Gojo, Nanami, Shoko, and Ijichi to not leak information to the Zenin. No one else.
She’s always suspected that Megumi stopped calling his dogs by their names because he didn’t want it to get back to the Zenin that he loved them like pets still. They’d be safer if the Zenin didn’t realize how much he still loved them. Maybe if he hid it, they’d assume they scared him off, and they wouldn’t hire someone to kill a dog when he’s on a mission or something. And that’s what she’ll never forgive the Zenin for taking from him.
They took away Megumi’s safety in his love. It became something he didn’t feel comfortable showing, ever, because it was something he would be hurt over. They made him hide it. And it kills Tsumiki to see, because her brother loves more fiercely than anyone she’s ever met. He loves in a way that terrifies her, sometimes, because she thinks it will kill him one day, she really does.
He loved those dogs enough to be beat within an inch of his life to keep them safe. He wouldn’t just suddenly start treating them like they’re impersonal weapons. They’re still Kuro and Shiro to him, she knows it. They’re still his puppies. And she doesn’t want the Zenin to get to take that from him.
She doesn’t want Megumi to just… succumb to what the jujutsu world did to him. She doesn’t want him to just take the beating the way he took it for his dogs. And she doesn’t want him to just sacrifice himself for her and call it a day. She wants him to fight for himself and for his right to live on his own terms. And she’s not sure if he’ll do that.
So she’ll fill in the gaps where she can. His dogs’ names are Shiro and Kuro, and they’re her brother’s puppies. They’re her best boys and she’ll treat them like pets all day long if she pleases, because the Zenin had no fucking right to take that from her brother. She’ll spit in Zenin Naobito’s face if she ever gets half a chance.

chapter synopsis:
'It’s like doing every little thing that you used to do with Tsumiki, and Megumi, sometimes, too— time spent after or during school, time spent laughing and giggling over the phone, time spent over snacks that keep you so full you don’t even want to eat your next meal— the same, but different.'

Yeah, no matter what happens, no matter what changes— you'll live, probably.

Out of everything you wouldn’t have expected this.
It could have been her telling you about how Valentine’s Day is coming up, complaining about how that one teacher’s been giving her class quizzes every lesson, or gossipping about frivolous things like the drama happening among the girls in her grade.
But you don’t expect the phone call to go like this.
“Hello?” you ask into the phone, “Tsumiki?”
“Hello,” the voice over the phone says. This one is older, more masculine, and you know whose it is.
It’s Gojo Satoru’s.
“Ah, Mr… Mr Gojo? Is Tsumiki home?”
There’s a long pause after that, the silence like paint filling in the gaps of a puzzle when the pieces are lost.
“…not now,” he says, his tone low and heavy, “Sorry, kid. You should…. you can call on another day, okay?”
“I… okay. Thank you. Could you help me tell her that her friend [Name] wants to call her? She hasn’t been talking to me anywhere since, um… the start of the year, I think?”
“Yeah,” he goes, voice aching to the point it makes your heart twinge, “I’ll let her know. Thanks.”
Then he hangs up. It sounded as if he was holding the phone with all the weight in the world, and had his voice drenched in all the pain in it.
And you don’t know why.
-16-2-2017-
It happens once more, and you’re convinced that every time you see them after a while Tsumiki and Megumi slip away completely from your grasp. Tsumiki hasn’t called in months— again, hasn’t responded to nor read any of your text messages and doesn’t even wish you a good morning when you start the week anymore. She always used to do that. You’re sure they would have a reason— you’re definitely sure— but why would they have to go missing on you right after you left?
And you didn’t even want to speak to Megumi at first. Though the two of you had shared your contacts during your trip in Tokyo and agreed to catch up every so often, you struggled to face him. Perhaps it was childish pride— your wish to have been right and to have him apologise to you, apologise to his sister, too; your wish for him to call you up admitting he was wrong.
You suppose you wouldn’t mind if he never did, though— you just didn’t want to apologise to him. You didn’t want to lose or give in, not when your life has revolved so much around these two, not when this is the only time you can control things. Your relationship with them is a journey on a swaying boat, and each time they move it you feel you’re about to fall into the water and drown from them turning it over. This is the only way you can do it to them, do it to him in particular, because you’d let only Tsumiki prove you wrong. You’d let both of them do anything to you— at this point you have because no matter how much they promise to call you back, to listen to your voicemails, to meet you again, you’re the one arranging plans to move to Tokyo; you’re the one calling them for what feels like over and over and sitting with your phone pressed to your ear for an eternity only to hear nothing. You moved all over the country, so why did it feel like you were the only one stuck in place as they moved forward from you?
At this point it’s even hindering you from making any new friends. You choose so much to linger on these two, on two people you met at the age of eight and only knew for a year before you decided to devote yourself to them, that you miss the chance to speak to anyone else your age who could be a lifelong companion no matter where you moved.
Yet at the same time you can’t handle not saying sorry— if there’s one thing that’s festered in you for years it’s the guilt that’s accumulated from being who you are. Guilt from being a burden, guilt for not having been a better daughter or an easier child to raise, guilt for not apologising after scolding someone over something that never really mattered. What you fought over: in the end, it didn’t matter, right?
Still, you’d rather be immature than lose control the first time you’ve had it; you’d rather be immature than apologise for something you refuse to say is your fault even if your greater conscience tells you to apologise either way.
Your thoughts are scribbles on paper, and you can’t decide, really; you can’t make a stand on what you really want: an apology, to apologise, to be proven right, to be able to talk again, to completely refrain from talking to him at all for the rest of your life—
This really shouldn’t be that big of a deal. So maybe it’s because Valentine’s Day has just passed and you’re lonely and he’s the only one you’ve ever had feelings for, or because this is the compromise you can come up with the part of yourself that wants control and the part of yourself that thinks the world is better off with you being less of a weight on someone’s back.
Anyway, you phone Megumi up.
Slowly, you key his number in— you swore not to forget it when he gave it to you last year, when for a few days you had rebuilt your friendship with him through awkward conversations and beating around the bush, only for it to crumble and come crashing down.
You press the phone to your ear. Its screen feels cold as the side of it grazes the skin on your chin. It vibrates and rings, its hum like a bee’s buzz, as you wait for the reply.
“This is Fushiguro speaking. If you’re hearing this, I can’t be on the phone right now, so just leave a voicemail message—”
You’ve never felt more hurt after feeling his voice reach your ears.
-20-2-2017-
You try again. The beep seems to mock you as you put your phone down and collapse against the mattress.
All of it, the frustration, the melancholic nights spent dialling numbers over and over again, the emptiness that greets you after like an old friend who knows you all too well—
— it has all happened before. It’s happening again and all you can do is watch as it does, forbidding yourself from interfering with what you’ve claimed is now a relapse of the distancing that you had no control over two years ago.

“We may be moving back to Sendai for a while, since we’ve got to settle some things with our old house there,” your father states— you know that you’re guaranteed to be spending your last year of junior high there, though, since it’s less than a month until the next school year— “Are you okay with that?”
“Yeah, sure.” You don’t have the number of any of your classmates at school, and you don’t really care to ask anymore. “Want me to help with anything?”

4-5-2017
Anticipation for the summer vacation breaks into your school calendar. The summer of 2017 is the first one you’ve had while having a friend close to you besides Megumi and Tsumiki, with Yuuji and you heading off for arcade games every Tuesday, laughing about goodness knows what in between classes and sending each other videos of old vines on Youtube before Vine died at the start of the year. It’s like doing every little thing that you used to do with Tsumiki, and Megumi, sometimes, too— time spent after or during school, time spent laughing and giggling over the phone, time spent over snacks that keep you so full you don’t even want to eat your next meal— the same, but different.
With a skip in your step, you head to class. Yuuji’s in there, and hey— it’s a Thursday, so today you’re especially excited.
That’s what’s been happening to you recently: excitement. Colour. Before meeting him it felt as if things were bleak, dull, grey like piles of dust. Yet you suppose becoming his friend has brought that colour back to you, because now you look forward to days instead of dreading them, all for the sake of him. How romantic.
“So? Which girl in our class do you like, Itadori?”
“I don’t like any of them.”
“Yeah, but if you had to pick one!”
The other boys don’t even mention you. It does make sense. At this point you may just seem to be someone desperate for his attention: of all the people in your class, you talk only to him, mostly because you’d struggle talking to any other girls, even more so any other boys. They were all intimidating at times: the baseball pitcher who dragged Itadori near his table every now and then, the pretty girls always willing to lend you bobby pins and hair ties with the best makeup you’ve seen and rolled-up skirts you feel you could never replicate and look good in, the smart student council leaders sitting at the front of the classroom completing their homework during lunch periods. Even if what would meet you while talking to them was not ridicule, it would be, at the very least, an uncomfortable silence frozen in the air from your awkwardness.
And hearing all this kills you because you know it would never be you. You wonder why it does— liking him was fun. It was supposed to be something you dallied in for your own sake, because doing what a girl your age should do instead of rotting in your room comforted you.
Yet your feelings were fickle, you supposed, because what was a source of joy slowly became a slightly painful twinge in your chest that you ignored each time you waited for him to tell you anything that could have indicated any feelings towards you. It was over from the start: you knew you’d never be the type of person he’d like; your handwriting wasn’t pretty, you were an inelegant klutz, weren’t gentle or caring or anything like that, just awkward. Tsumiki could, though, you think. Tsumiki had a natural grace, and a soothing charm that followed her like the scent of eucalyptus from her shampoo and conditioner. If it were Tsumiki, anyone could fall for her— any boy or any girl, anyone. But it’s you, and you find yourself wallowing in self-pity as you hear him say it before noticing one of the girls— Ozawa Yuko, you think— standing in front of you.
You don’t know her well enough to say anything about her. Still, you know that she’s a good few inches shorter than Yuuji is, and that whenever you walk past her you can vaguely pick up the scent of camellia shampoo.
That’s the type that people— boys, at least— like. Graceful girls with elegance emanating from them, radiant and warm and friendly, even if they may be shy. You know how some other students have spoken about Ozawa, mocking her for things she couldn’t control. And it was stupid as hell: you guys were teenagers, there’d be no need for her to want to lose weight now— she still had so much time to grow and losing weight would stunt it, plus she would be adorable either way, too.
In the few months you’ve known him you know Yuuji isn’t like that. There are boys your age, with their boisterous laughs and common cruelty, and then there’s Yuuji. He’s never said a wrong word about anyone; he likes Jennifer Lawrence and tall girls with big asses but he’s like others in the sense that he loves people who are kind, sweet— someone like Ozawa.
So when you see Ozawa waiting by the door, about to listen in with a light blush on her face, you know you don’t even need to hear his answer.

 And walk home with them
Sounds kinda gay ngl but eh
[Yuuji]
nah not the same when i’m not walking bakc with u
It hurts a bit as you walk home on your own, but you don’t cry.
Now it’s time to be useful.
The next day, you talk to Itadori as usual. Nothing changes.
But then during lunchtime you head to where Ozawa sits— today she’s in the classroom for a change, and she’s all alone, and you should’ve tried your best to prevent that so that others wouldn’t be like you. If Itadori was the one to be sitting by your desk, you’ll be like that for her whenever you see her.
“Um, Ozawa,” you mumble, tapping her shoulder.
She looks up. “Ah… hm?”
“...good luck!” you say, holding your thumb up as support, “I’ll cheer you on…! If you ever want to talk to him, I’ll help you, okay?”
You run away before things get too awkward, but a connection established is a connection regardless, and you’ve won for today.

Your parents seem on-edge these days, your mother stressed and tired as she always is, your father worried about nothing you seem to know.
One night your mother places her chopsticks on the rim of her plate. The way she does it is in defeat— silently, firmly so as to show that she wasn’t quite done, that she could still hold them with all her strength in defiance. You only see her that way after your parents fight: that frown, the passively violent, deafeningly soundless aura from her actions. Because it was always your father who “won”. You didn’t have a place to judge— your parents were a sterling team together; even if they fought things would be resolved and you’d have no say in the matter. It was only theirs and if they treated their arguments like fights they brought war weapons to, they would agree that you had neither the life experience to stop them nor the wisdom to solve their problems. You couldn’t handle it either: their fighting and how it froze the air solid, the way it could erupt into them shouting at the tip of their throats so long as they were in their bedroom, because they knew you wouldn’t hear. And so beyond words your father always won their arguments, each of them treating the other like an enemy on the battlefield.
Your mother turns to you.
“Your father has to go to Tokyo on the 24th,” she states, “They need him back for something.”
“Jujutsu sorcerer stuff?”
“I won’t take long,” your father smiles, as if he had not hurt your mother’s feelings to get her to give up, “And I’m not going to be involved in the actual fighting like last time.”
“Then why do you have to go?”
“It’s something really important.”
You frown.
He sighs. “There’s going to be an attack on the 24th,” he says, “Something planned by a man named Geto Suguru, a curse user with an extremely powerful cursed technique. I’ll just help with healing anyone’s injuries,” he explains, “…you know, I actually wanted to bring you there and see how things work in real time, since it seems you’ve been interested in your cursed technique lately, but someone didn’t want you to do it.”
“Don’t bring me into this again,” your mother spits at him.
“I already told you it wouldn’t involve any of us getting hurt,” he retorts, “If I bring her there I won’t even let her use her cursed technique, I just want her to see how Dr Ieiri and I do it—”
“Ah!” you go, “Dr Ieiri Shoko, right? Megu— ah, I heard about her last time, from… someone.”
“From Megumi?” your mother says, “Darling, don’t think about those two anymore, it’s better if you don’t get involved with that or that world at all—”
“Anyway,” your father interjects, “Do you want to try it, sweetheart? And if it all goes well with most of Tokyo still being intact and us having some extra time left, I can see if Dr Ieiri is able to teach you about reverse cursed technique—”
“I told you, she’s not going anywhere near all of this—”
“You and I both want the same thing. It’s not like I want her to be a jujutsu sorcerer, I’m just looking out for my daughter’s interests in healing and recovering things—”
“Wait!” you interrupt them, “I— let me think about it, actually. Could you let me think about it, please? And I promise I won’t do anything near the battlefield, I swear. I mean— I just thought, um, that since they’re going to do some, like—- actual stuff, I guess?— that I wanted to see how it works. I still don’t want to fight. I just want to see if I could help, you know, and it would be good if I could see how Daddy and Dr Ieiri do it so that I can learn from it and stuff and in the future I can make myself useful to other people and all so please don’t fight—”
“You’re rambling,” your mother states, her hands on her lap. Ultimate defeat. Absolute resignation from it all.
You almost want to cry at the sight of it.
“Of course,” your father replies, “Give it some good thought, okay, darling?”

8-2-2018
Time moves like tennis balls against rackets. Yuuji will always be a great friend, you’ve decided, even if he doesn’t like you back. Besides, now, things are back to being fun: you’re going to crush on more people and have fun and see if one day someone confesses to you, and maybe by next Wednesday— the fourteenth— your sweet sixteenth Valentine’s Day will be the first one not spent alone.
Sighing, you close your book again after a long day. There’s pencil lead stuck to the side of your pinky finger as you stack everything together and straighten it against the table so that everything in your bag gets inside all neat and even.
“Man, [Name], you always keep everything so neat,” Yuuji comments, “I just stuff everything in my bag. Surprised I haven’t lost all my stuff yet.”
“That’s why all your stuff comes out crumpled,” you say, “Your notebooks come out like they came out a rat’s nest— no offence.”
“None taken,” he replies, bending down dramatically, “Seriously, [Name], you’re a really good student! Smart, too.”
“You sure?” you ask, standing up with the straps of your bag slung against your shoulders, the two of you exiting the classroom, “I fell asleep during class and only woke up when she gave us those questions. I’m gonna have to check the textbook to finish it up tonight…”
“Still smart to me, honestly,” he states, “I’m a pretty dumb guy.”
You hit him playfully on the shoulder, and he jerks forward for a second before coming back up again. “Nah, be confident! You’re, like, good at sports and English and stuff. I can’t do any sports to save my life.”
“Well it’s not like I can do maths for shit, honestly.” He slumps down.
Then— “Ah, wait, Yuji, sorry— I’ve to go to the bathroom for a second to check something—!”
“Huh? Check what? Wait, uh— want me to hold your bag for you?”
“Sure—” your pads are in there— “Wait, nonononono— I’ll be fine, don’t worry, just something quick, hold on. You go without me first, ‘kay? I’ll meet you at the famima we always go to.”
It turns out to not be a false alarm, and the thing comes early by a few days. You’re lucky you at least have some of your emergency supplies with you so that you can still have a fun day with Yuuji as long as you don’t drink too much green tea or coffee. A little should be fine, though, right?
Still, you could always cell-manipulate your way out of unexpected situations like these. You just choose not to— it’s not worth the trouble of headaches or nosebleeds. Who’d want to willingly bleed from the top and the bottom at once, really?
You check your appearance in the mirror afterward, and everything looks okay— your hair is normal despite school air’s penchant for ruining it, your uniform looks alright even though your skirt pocket may look a little weird later once you put your phone in it, and your face is the same as earlier today, so… well. You don’t know what that says about whether your face looks good or not right now, but you guess this is alright.

Though it’s a bit far away, the sight that greets you as you finally arrive shocks you immediately. He’s got a little blood on his face— that’s already way too much then you can handle being on his face. It couldn’t be from anything like acne or a popped pimple; the guy’s got clear skin for days and though there’s nothing but a tiny scratch by the side of his cheek you’re running over to him.
But this is what’s worse: high school students, about three of them, lying on the floor, passed out like animal carcasses. There’s another one standing, with straight light-coloured hair and enough fear on his face to seem as if he’d just witnessed a war.
And Yuuji’s expression, which is clear as day even with the distance between you: eyes uncharacteristically cold, face distorted away from his usual boyish grin, aura radiating off of him, lacerating through his usual self like a wolf’s claws through raw, cold meat in the tundra.
“…what about you?” Yuuji says to the guy with light hair.
You run.
“Yuuji!”
“Huh?” He notices you. “[Name]?”
“Yuuji— what happened to you?”
“No, just—” He’s back to normal. “Saw some of them picking on someone, so I started beating them up.”
“What— seriously? You could’ve, like, called the police or something, you idiot!”
“But it wasn’t in school, so I didn’t know what to do… plus, we’re in different schools and all…”
“W-well if you call the police, their punishment would have been worse, right?” you sigh, “Alright, what happened to the one getting picked on? Are they okay?”
“He ran away,” he shakes his head.
Poor guy.
“…and this one, the one standing up here?’ you ask, “Is he okay? He looks pretty traumatised.”
“I’m right here, you know!” the standing guy answers. So besides standing in silence, he can talk after all.
“Oh, this one?” Yuuji points, again not acknowledging him. He was just standing there, stunned like a deer in headlights, instead of lying on the ground. “Just seemed like peer pressure or something. He didn’t hurt the guy.”
“Ah… what’s your name, guy?”
“…Rin Amai,”
“You okay?”
“…yeah, just, I guess, surprised? I mean, by the pink-haired guy’s strength and all. You guys are middle schoolers, right? That means he’s crazy strong.”
“His name is Itadori,” you sigh, “Yeah. He’s a strong guy like that. He stands up for good things.”
Yuuji chuckles, scratching the back of his neck, “Aw, thanks, man!”
“Well, now that they’re knocked out, I can kind of say I didn’t like them that much to begin with…” Rin remarks.
“Ah, I get that. Nobody likes people like them. When you can, stand up for others next time, okay?” you advise him, “Got any injuries?”
“No, just a scratch here and there. I’ll be fine. Thanks, you two.”
“No worries.”
“Still wanna go to the arcade?” Yuuji asks.
The two of you say your goodbyes to Rin, who offers to wait with the knocked-out students after that— you’ll probably only ever see him once or twice after this. Yuuji offers to take your bag but you deny him, and the two of you stroll to the arcade.
This has happened before, really, and there’s some kind of anticipatory grief sticking to you as you ruminate over what he’d done. It’s like you’re waiting for things to worsen: either you tell him that he shouldn’t have beat students up even if it was for the sake of others, or you don’t and make decisions conflicting with your own moral code. The last time you’d seen someone get back from a fight, your relationship with them ended up severed, whether due to your commitment to your own ideals or not.
You debate on asking him not to do the same next time, not to get hurt and not to hurt people who pick on others, and—
—the arcade is closed.
“Aaaahhh! Seriously? Sorry, [Name]. Forgot they said they’d be closed today. Last week one of the employees told me they’d have to settle some issues or something.”
Of course he’d befriend the employees. It still surprises you that every now and then he’s so kind it hurts.
“No, it’s fine,” you reassure him, “You know, I don’t really feel up to it today either. Still kinda shaken.”
“Don’t worry about that, honestly! I’m fine, and they’re fine too.”
“Will they be, though? Have you gotten any injuries?”
“Don’t think so. I’ll be okay anyway, though, ‘cause I’ve got a high pain tolerance— ow!”
“‘High pain tolerance,’ huh?” you sigh, “Is it a strain? Are you okay?”
He winces, “I don’t know if it’s a strain or a sprain,” he answers, “But it’s on my ankle, and it hurts a lot.”
“Can you walk?”
“Yeah, but— it hurts…”
You rest his arm on top of your back, taking hold of his shoulder, guiding him on the way back to his home.
His grandfather— a man with grey hair yet enough energy to wake up at 6am before exercising and going on walks every morning— nods after you explain the situation to him, and lets you stay with Yuuji for now due to your worrying.
The first thing to do with a sprain or a strain is to rest the injured area.
“It’s strange that you got it on your ankle of all places,” you say, outstretching his leg for him, “Were you walking funny or anything?”
“Nope.”
“Maybe you’ve been overusing it, then,” you theorise, “Okay. No running and all for a few days, okay? Or just, until it feels better.”
“Huh? But I’m in the track and field club…”
“Spend some time with the occult club or something,” you tell him, “You can just tell the student council president or the track and field club president that it hurts, so you’ve got to go to the occult club to still be able to support your other interests and stuff as you recuperate.”
“Nah, they’d call bullshit.”
“Pft. You don’t know if you don’t try,” you joke. “Wait a second, let me go get some ice.”
He lies down, his arms resting by his stomach. “You know, [Name]…” he starts, his voice louder for you to hear.
“Yeah?”
“I’m happy you’re my friend.”
If you were a dog, you’d be wagging your tail and kicking your feet up into the air, so happy that your smile is uncontrollable— and the last time it had been that way was more than a few years ago.
His voice stays as loud but you hear it better, clearer, as you move up the stairs with the ice pack. “I mean, I thought I was a pretty lonely guy, and sometimes I still do. Like— I mean, you’re a lonely girl too sometimes, I think.”
You sit down beside him, probably a little too plaintive in your actions than you intended. “…yeah. Guess people could tell…”
“But, hey. I met you and we get to do all sorts of cool and dumbass shit together. So I’m happy I met you and that we became friends, you know? I’m happy you’re even here. So now we’re both a little less lonely, and the world has two new people who are a little less than lonely.”
It’s warm despite it being winter— you hope his hoodie and his student jacket are enough to keep him from freezing. Every time you enter his house, you wonder how he must have lived as a child. You imagine a smaller-sized Yuuji,  with wild pink hair and a tired grandfather, living in this house with its wooden tiles and untorn paper calendars from the year 2000, in his endearingly tardy room and boyish clothing choices. The thought of it melts your heart, almost.
“Yeah. I’m happy you’re in my life, too, Yuuji,” you beam, “I’m happy you said hi to me that day, because I probably wouldn’t have made any friends. Like, I thought every time we moved somewhere we’d move again to somewhere else, so I kind of gave up. I didn’t want to get attached. Because there would always be something happening after, like us moving and eventually I thought every day was a chore, because I had this kind of… how do I say it— this kind of ‘I’ll escape one day’ mentality, like I didn’t move forward to each day anymore. But being friends with you brought that back to me, kinda.”
“Really?” he says as you wrap the ice pack in a towel and press it to his ankle, turning his head to meet yours, “Makes me pretty glad. Thanks, man.”
“I’m glad too.”
“You’re a great nurse,” he grins at you, before leaning his head back against his bed.
It feels good. The praise feels good.
Now you really don’t know what to do with him. Or what to do with how you feel about him.
For a moment you consider this: pressing your hand to his ankle, healing it immediately, placing your hands on his ankle and healing it with your cursed technique. But even so you’d have to explain the whole of jujutsu society to him, and that was meant to be a well-kept secret anyway. Yuuji wouldn’t be the type to do well as a jujutsu sorcerer— he’d save everyone, care for everyone, not because judging who would be right or wrong to save was often convoluted or unsolvable, but because he was a good person. If he failed to help people in dire need, whether it was his fault or not, he would be so guilty he wouldn’t live. You supposed a part of you was like that, too: driven by fear of potential guilt, yet you were driven even more by a need to be useful. If at the end of the day you could help, even if you couldn’t offer someone salvation, you’d accept it— that certain things were out of your control. There would be no point in lingering over not being able to change things you couldn’t change, and your experience in Tokyo last month was part of that. It was what changed almost everything. And you swore you’d never let Yuuji go through anything that would change him, that would take that pure love for the world from him. His name is fitting: his humanity is unwavering, a soldier fighting a losing battle, Sisyphus rolling his boulder up the hill and living through his suffering, the indomitable human spirit against the cruel indifference of the world and the universe.
You’ll tell him one day, you decide.
For now, though, you’ll have to make yourself useful another way: by using the knowledge you have to be at his aid. That’s how you’ll like it anyway.
“Thanks, Yuuji,” you whisper.
Yuuji dozes off. You sit next to him as if he’s a patient at a hospital, watching his breath rise and fall. A part of you wants the moment to stretch out into perpetuity, his steady snoring lulling even you to sleep. It’s creepy as hell. And knowing that you could have all of this: seeing him like this, going to the arcade every Thursday, minding each others’ health; all of it without it leading to him liking you the same way you do him—
—it still hurts. But it’s getting easier to handle it. You’ll deny that it still hurts for as long as you can, staving it off until it really does go away. So you’ll keep silent, no one beside you knowing of your feelings, trying your best to be utilised and useful. You’ll take it to the grave, you’re sure. You’ll continue to be by the sidelines, a helper for convenience and someone to serve, someone to be used.

hi raf! you mentioned that you’re south asian, so can i request megumi + your faves with a desi s/o? either fem or gender neutral is fine! i hope you’re well <3
hehe, I forgot to include this in my other ask (i requested the desi s/o hcs) but can it be a no-curse au?
warnings: fem! reader, mentions of food
a/n: these hc's are coming from my knowledge and experience as a desi person. When I say desi, that includes India, Pakistan & Bangladesh. Obviously, these regions are incredibly diverse, and these hc's do not include the full scope of identities in those areas; I tried my best to be inclusive with my knowledge. Also, I don't speak Tamil or Bangla, but I tried my best with the phrases included.
— Megumi and Yuuji with a Desi s/o
Megumi Fushiguro
Megumi would be super respectful about your culture; never once would he make fun of your traditions or practices.
In terms of traditional clothing, his favourite would be black or navy blue kurtas. Nothing too flashy. He likes the soft material.
The quickest way to fluster him? Wear a Sari; he thinks you look so beautiful with how the fabric flows on your body. He won’t know what to say; the boy is a blushing mess when you wear traditional clothing.
During events, it’s funny to see how he tries to refuse aunties from offering him rishtas. He’s always polite but makes sure to shoot you a glare as you try to stifle a giggle.
Gege said that Megumi doesn’t like sweet side dishes, making me think he wouldn’t like mehtai/sweets. He would try gulab jamun and jalebi at least once, but he would love biryani, masala dosas and butter paneer.
On the topic of food, if you enjoy cooking, he would love to help you cook or learn recipes from you and try them out later by himself to surprise you.
He would love the song “Dil Dhadakne Do” from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara based on his music taste.
Megumi would be a little shy to ask you to teach him some words in your language, and if you call him any pet names, like jaanu or en chellam, Megumi would be confused if he doesn’t know the meaning, but once he gathers the courage to ask you, he would blush profusely.
He would call you those pet names once in a while just to see your reaction. Of course, it takes him a bit to get the pronunciation right, but he loves seeing how you look at him with utter adoration in your eyes when he does say it right.
Yuuji Itadori
Eats everything and anything. Yuuji loves nihari, chicken karahi, haleem. He loves desi cuisine, and he’ll enjoy it all, especially if you make it for him.
Speaking of food, he’s the type of guy that won’t complain and offer to feed you while you’re getting your mehndi done. His only complaint is how long it takes to dry because he wants you to play with his hair, but he’ll suck it up because he loves how pretty your hands look with mehndi on them.
Like Megumi, he’s respectful about traditions and your culture.
He will binge-watch Bollywood movies and Pakistani dramas with you. Yes, binge, he watched K3G back to back with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. He tried putting on Kal Ho Na Ho next, but you had to wrench the remote away from his hands to save him from heartbreak.
Yuuji loves wearing Kurta Shalwar; he doesn’t mind the flashy colours.
If you wear a lehenga around him, he loses his mind. He peppers you in kisses and is always ready to help you lift or fix the lehenga while walking or standing.
He asked you once to recreate the scene in Om Shanti Om when “Ajab Si” plays.
I think he would enjoy the song Haaye Dil from the movie Parey Hut Love.
You’re saved on his phone as raani since he calls you princess usually.
If you celebrate Pohela Boishakh, he always wishes you Shubho Noboborsho.
If you take him to any events, you have to make sure he doesn’t hog all the shingaras.
He is so much fun at events; the kids love to whisk him away from you to play games with him; he really likes playing cricket with them.
Yuuji is so sweet when it comes to your culture; he never makes you feel weird because of it, and he loves that you share this part of yourself with him.
a/n: these were really fun to write, i hope that everything sounded alright. ty for requesting !!

SHIP YOUR MUTUALLSSSS I WANT TO SEE THE DRAMA
*evil laughter* instead of paying attention I wrote all of this down during my classes you’re welcome.
I tried to do people you wouldn’t really expect either
And I’m indecisive so some people have two my bad 👩🏾‍🦲
You should also pay me for this I worked hard
I’m never doing this shit again I need a nap omfg 🗿 if you weren’t included in this and you want to be you gotta wait a month for my brain to regenerate sorry besties
@uniquabackyardigans I was stuck between both Aran Ojiro from Haikyuu and Shoto Todoroki from mha so I just picked both.
Todoroki is emotionally unavailable already your type. All jokes aside he would be really soft with you and it’s like a whole different side of him other people don’t really see often. If you were upset about something he probably wouldn’t know how to comfort you (I feel like he’s bad at comforting people in general) but he’d try his best. Also he’s probably touch starved just like you <3 have fun with his conspiracies.
I feel like people think that Aran is mean because of his resting bitch face and also this face -_- he occasionally makes. So when they see how nice he is with you they’re so confused ?? Also remember when you were complaining about your ass in your jeans? He’d say it does make your ass look like a square just to make you mad :) you too also probably think flipping people off is a good date idea 🗿
@king-tobiyolo I ship you with Sakusa Kiyoomi (is that his name?) Now hear me out it would probably be a opposites attract sort of thing. You make shit jokes he’s a germaphobe you’re a menace he’s less of a menace. He hated you at first, you and your bad jokes annoyed him. So when he started catching feelings 👩🏾‍🦲 Theres never a dull moment with you two. You get him to loosen up a little (not a lot but it’s still noticeable).
@lilies-and-rosies I ship you with Megumi Fushiguro. You and Megumi have a interesting dynamic. You’re either done with everyone’s bullshit together or he’s done with your bullshit. You send him the dumbest things (I’m talking about those weird people you find 🧛🏾‍♀️) and he hates to admit it but some of them actually makes him laugh. I feel like he’d be the type to be embarrassed over over the slightest things such as hand holding so you’re gonna crack him out of his shell 🥸. Also you’re a Tsukishima Kinnie? No problem who else would he date he has Yuuji Gojo and Nobara on his ass. LMAO IM SORRY THAT WAS FUNNY TO ME. I also ship you with Hange Zoe but I’m too Lazy to explain further I’ve been at this for hours
@sao-tom3 I ship you with Itadori Yuuji. I don’t know if you’ve watched Jujutsu Kaisen yet but I feel like you and Yuuji would be a cute couple. He’s in love with your cat obviously not more than he’s in love with you but it’s a close call 🤩. He cooks for you (period get yourself a man who can cook). If you have a specific comfort meal you like to eat when you’re sad he’d gladly make it for you and do whatever he can on top of that to cheer you up. He’d also be the type to randomly go “Do you wanna do my make up for me?” Do his makeup bestie 🤬. Have fun with Sukuna bothering you two though. 🦤🦤🦤
@angeldvst-amajiki I ship you with Armin Arlert. I can’t explain myself on this one I just feel like you would be his type (his type being intimidating woman, not saying you’re intimidating but you did say Tamaki would be afraid of you NOT THAT I THINK ITS TRUE THOUGH) um anyways you and Armin would be that couple people didn’t really expect but once they see it they love it. Armin would constantly reassure you that he loves you wether he says it to you straightforwardly or coveys it through his actions. His love language is either quality time or giving out gifts and when I think of Armin giving you sea shells enjoy bestie
@shawtyybae I ship you with Akaashi whatever his last name is. Doesn’t he just look like mega mind? 🥸 But Fr Fr it’ll take a very patient man to deal with your bs. At first I thought that Akaashi would probably go for someone who isn’t a menace (yes I’m saying you’re a menace) because he already has bokuto giving him migraines but you’re an exception I guess? Most of the time he’ll go along with your jokes because why not but other times he’d be like 🧍🏾‍♀️. Akaashi is also a over thinker proven buy bokuto himself 🙄 so I feel like he’d overthink your relationship and then need reassurance that you still like him (I have a ton of Akaashi conspiracy theories but that’s not the point)
@starrjin I ship you with Inumaki and Kita but I don’t feel like writing these anymore so I’m only gonna explain Inumaki 🗿 You and Inumaki in my opinion would be good for each other. He can comfort you without even having to speak somehow and for him he finds your presence comforting. His love language in my opinion is physical touch and acts of service. He can’t speak? He’ll make up for it with his actions.
@melichios I ship you with Eren Jeager. Why you may ask? Because I read your about me and you’re basically into edgy people and who’s edgier than a mass murderer? Also “men with long hair” Last time I checked Eren has some pretty long hair 🌝 He also finds your interest interesting (see what I did there? 🤩) like your biotechnology. Loves hearing you talk about your interest. I mean he’ll fall asleep on you listening to you talk about it but he loves it nonetheless.
@hoodsokka I ship you with Sero and Denki from Mha but I’m only explaining Sero 🗿 You two would be a comedic duo. He wouldn’t even mind the accidental dick jokes in front of his mom (haha get it because you accidentally told a dick joke..in front of..okay) He goes along with whatever impulsive urge you have except having a baby at 17 (haha..get it because..okay) Wether this is a platonic ship or a romantic ship that’s for you to decide.
@aphroditeparadisesstuff (WE SHARE SO MANY OF THE SAME INTERESTS) I ship you with Tsukishima Kei. I read your about me thingy too and it says you’re sarcastic. Who’s more sarcastic then Tsukki? 🤩 You like reading too so library dates yaaaaay. Every now and then he recommends books he’d think you’ll like. He loves hearing about the things you’re passionate about seeing you rant about something like mythology makes him smile. Also “I’m shy” great you two can stay at home together :)

Shokugeki Next Gen Cast
//shrug
I thought I should maybe make a master post, especially for my blog @shokugeki-no-kimiko (which is dedicated to the Next Gen) so people on mobile have a chance to read about them.
So yah, it’s not completed yet. Since there are characters I haven’t revealed yet. But it includes everyone I talked about so far.
I also have a toyhouse account where they’re all featured more detailed. o3o
115th Generation
This is the Generation that is the main focus, as it holds the most offsprings of the 92nd Generation. It’s been titled “Jewel Rebirth” by the teachers and the chefs who happen to be offsprings are”Reborn Jewels”, the term is not used by anyone within the Generation though.
Kimiko Yukihira
Tumblr media
Name: Kimiko Yukihira (Notable Aliases: “Kimi” (Hiraku Yukihira); “Princess” (Soma Yukihira); “Kimiko-Sama” (a few people, Akio Hayama for example), “Kimiko-cchi” (Chieko Marui), “Small-Yukihira” (Shigeo Eizan))
Born on June 27
Daughter of Soma and Erina
Specialises in: Yukihira-Style, Creativity with no borders. Also likes French Cuisine.
Affiliation: Restaurant Yukihira, Totsuki, Polar Star Dormitory, French RS
At heart a joyful, optimistic young lady who never learned the phrase „giving up“. Most of the time there is a smile or grin on her face and she’s also quite friendly. But despite her friendliness and her talents in conversations, she is not as social as some people expect her to be and has some introverted tendencies.
Kaori Hayma
Tumblr media
Name: Kaori Hayma (Notable Aliases: ”The Gatekeeper of the Fountain of Eternal Youth” (A title she received from adult chefs) “Youth Preserver” (Short Version of her title), “Kaori-Sama” (her admires)
Born on February 17
Daughter of Akira and Hisako
Specialises in: Medical Cuisine, which is in her case primarily intending to energize the customer. Spices.
Affiliation: Totsuki, Shiomi Seminar
Kaori is a stoic and antisocial young lady that currently stands at the top of the 115th Generation. Her exquisite skills when it comes to cooking have earned her quite the admiration from her peers and she is pretty much treated like Royalty. Kaori is extremly assertive and ambitious. She desires the top spot on Totsuki and is not going to tolerate any obstacles in her way to the top.
Hiroshi Aldini-Tadokoro
Tumblr media
Name: Hiroshi Aldini-Tadokoro (Notable Aliases: “Angel” (The Polar Star Dormitory Members), “Tadokoro” (also all of Polar Star), “The Weak One” (an attempt of a few people to differentiate him from his cousin Mika) )
Born on May 4
Son of Isami and Megumi
Specialises in: “Hospitality Cooking” and Japanese Cuisine. Knows his way around Italian Cuisine though.
Affiliation: Trattoria Aldini, Totsuki, Polar Star Dormitory, Local Cuisine RS
Hiroshi is a kind and friendly young man who always acts with best intentions. He pays a lot of attention to the feelings of the people around him and often recognizes when a person feels down faster than others. His kind and polite nature makes it hard for most people to hate on Hiroshi, however a lot of his classmates view him as not competent enough for Totsuki. It is indeed true that Hiroshi is not very competetive and not much for challenges.
Mika Aldini
Tumblr media
Name: Mika Aldini (Notable Aliases: “Itoko-chan” (Hiroshi), “Fury”, “Mika-cchi” (Chieko Marui) )
Born on August 9
Daughter of Takumi and Ikumi
Specialises in: Italian Cuisine and the usage of Meat. Often fuses with Japanese Cuisine though. Her dons are excellent.
Affiliation: Trattoria Aldini, Totsuki, Polar Star Dormitory, Don RS
Mika is a fiery and bold girl who would never back away from any challenge the world is giving her. She's very confident in herself and has no problem with stating this out loud. Her pride is often the prime reason for her ending up in thousands of challenges. But her strong sense for justice as well as her incredible short temper can also be a reason.
Lola Nakiri
Tumblr media
Name: Lola Nakiri (Notable Aliases: “Lola-Sama”, “Headmistress Daughter”, “Nakiri #1″ )
Born on November 17
Daughter of Ryo and Alice
Specialises in: Seafood and Molecular Gastronomy
Affiliation: Totsuki, Nakiri International
Lola is a cheeky and playful individual who absolutely enjoys teasing and annoying people. Being the daughter od the headmistress of Totsuki who enjoyed wealth and prestige since she's a child, Lola pretty much has the idea in her head that she can whatever she wants without facing any consequences.
Mona Nakiri
Tumblr media
Name: Lola Nakiri (Notable Aliases: “Mona-Sama”, “The Other Headmistress Daughter”, “Nakiri #2″ )
Born on November 17
Daughter of Ryo and Alice
Specialises in: Molecular Gastronomy and Seafood
Affiliation: Totsuki, Nakiri International
Mona is a stoic girl who rarely speaks if she doesn't needs to. She has a constant neutral expression and her voice lacks all emotions as well. She basically gives off the image as if she doesn't care about anything that happens around her. Mona moves and talks pretty slowly and mostly follows around her twin sister.
Takayuki Hojo
Tumblr media
Name: Takayuki Hojo (Notable Aliases: “Tiny Ball of Rage”, “Small-Hojo” (Shigeo Eizan) )
Born on September 6
Son of Terunori and Miyoko
Specialises in: Chinese Cuisine (with a speciality on Szechuan and Hunan)
Affiliation: Totsuki, Chinese RS
Takayuki is a serious individual. He tries his best to give off the image of a competent, calm and collected person but has problems to go through with that since he has an awfully short temper. Combined with his attidude of taking many things way too serious he often freaks out about little things and creates unnecessary drama. He's in general rather unchill and finds it hard to relax.
Kazuo Mimasaka
Tumblr media
Name: Kazuo Mimasaka (Notable Aliases: “Freak”/”Stalker”/”Weirdo”, “Small-Mimasaka” (Shigeo Eizan) )
Born on March 9
Son of Subaru and Nao
Specialises in: Bad-Smelling Ingredients, Tracing
Affiliation: Totsuki
Kazuo is an unsettling personality to a lot of Totsuki's students. To the average human being he can comes across as incredibly odd. It's true that Kazuo has a lot of weird interests and hobbies. He's very fixiated on Mika Aldini as he developed a crush on her and acts a little obsessive with trying to attract her. He's actually quite oblivious to how much he creeps people out and is a happy individual who would never hurt anyone.
Yasu Ibusaki
Tumblr media
Name: Yasu Ibusaki (Notable Aliases: “Big Brother” (a few of the younger students in Polar Star)
Born on March 2
Son of Shun and Ryoko
Specialises in: Smoke Cooking, Fermentation
Affiliation: Totsuki, Polar Star Dormitory
Yasu is a very peaceful and friendly individual. While he doesn't talks much, due to being an introvert, he's always very polite and well-mannered when speaking. He has a great ability of reading people and dealing with their feelings. Adding to that he's very helpful and kind which gives him a sort off big brother role to a lot of the Polar Star's students, especially the younger ones.
Chieko Marui
Tumblr media
Name: Chieko Marui (Notable Aliases: “Enomoto-Seminar’s Ace”, “Madam” (her nickname in the Enomoto-Seminar”), “Hag” (Hideyoshi Kawashima sometimes), “Chi-Chan” (Yasu Ibusaki) )
Born on December 5
Daughter of Zenji and Yuki
Specialises in: “Literacy Cooking”, Wild Game
Affiliation: Totsuki, Polar Star Dormitory, Enomoto-Seminar
Chieko is a highly intelligent young girl who expanded her knowledge on various topics from a very young age one. She's usually friendly and polite and very well-mannered infront of adults. But at the same time Chieko is much of a mood-swinger and can easily go from happy to annoyed in just a few seconds and especially people who are closer to her get in touch with that. Chieko is incredibly easy to annoy as she has a lot of pet-peeves and her tendencies to overact make her a perfect target for teasing.
Hideyoshi Kawashima
Tumblr media
Name: Hideyoshi Kawashima (Notable Aliases: “The Host”, “Hideyoshi-kuuuun~” (His Fangirls) )
Born on August 19
Son of Shoji and Urara
Specialises in: Unknown
Affiliation: Totsuki, Polar Star Dormitory
Hideyoshi is the attention-hungry and arrogant Shokugeki host that most of the school grounds knows because he makes sure that people know him. He lives for the spotlight and is a lot more focused on being an emcee than actually cooking. When being with his peers, Hideyoshi shows himself to be extremly self-centered and haughty.
Daisuke Aoki
Tumblr media
Name: Daisuke Aoki (Notable Aliases: “The Other One” )
Born on October 26
Son of Daigo and Yua
Specialises in: Unknown
Affiliation: Totsuki, Polar Star Dormitory
Daisuke is a very soft-spoken and friendly young man who really has troubles getting the attentions of others on him. This is his major problem when working as emcee, while is commentary is good and fine he speaks very unsurely and soft so people have to lean forward to properly understand him. He doesn't has a lot of self-esteem and can't truly speak up for himself. The only one he dares to set straight is his childhood friend Hideyoshi Kawashima.
114th Generation
Hiraku Yukihira
Tumblr media
Name: Hiraku Yukihira (Notable Aliases: “Tongue gifted from Angels” or “Holy Tongue” for short, “Hiraku-Sama” (by almost all of the school ground), “Airhead” (Kimiko Yukihira) )
Born on September 1
Son of Soma and Erina
Specialises in: Elite Food, Yukihira Style
Affiliation: Restaurant Yukihira (Former), Totsuki, Elite Ten Council (4th Seat)
Hiraku is a rather stoic and serious young boy who focuses instensely on his craft. He spent most of his childhood in the kitchen of a diner and in very experienced when it comes to cooking because of that. Adding to that he inherited the so-called "God Tongue" from his mother which adds ever more to his extraordinary talent. He is completely devoted to cooking and more than often he actually forgets the world around him because of that. Often dubbed "airhead" by his sister, Hiraku more than often has his head in the clouds or his thoughts elsewhere. He's can be almost painfully oblivious especially when it comes to other people's feelings. Due to his all-in-all stoic demeanor he is therefore hard to befriend. He's also awfully unorganized.
Akio Hayama
Tumblr media
Name: Akio Hayama (Notable Aliases: “Hiraku-Sama’s Assitance” )
Born on January 24
Son of Akira and Hisako
Specialises in: Spices, Curry
Affiliation: Totsuki, Elite Ten Council (6th Seat)
Akio is most of the time very friendly and polite. He rarely talks though as he is usually very busy. His work as Hiraku's assistant plus the responsibilties that come with his Elite Ten seat completely consume him and he is almost always working. He rarely has any time for casual activites or relaxing, but doesn't even seems to mind it.
Suzume Hojo
Tumblr media
Name: Suzume Hojo  (Notable Aliases: “The Warrior-Empress” )
Born on May 17
Daughter of Terunori and Miyoko
Specialises in: Chinese Cuisine
Affiliation: Totsuki, Elite Ten Council (7th Seat), Chinese RS
Suzume is quite the fun and very easy to get a long with. In contrast to her little brother, she doesn't takes everything heavily serious and is rather laidback. She's even quite known for being a bit of a jokester who can light up an atmosphere with ease. She's quite extroverted and very direct. It's easy to befriend her and she is on good terms with almost everyone.
Shigeo Eizan
Tumblr media
Name: Shigeo Eizan  (Notable Aliases: “Boss” (his underlings), “Cold-Hearted Snake”, “Shigeo-Senpai” (by almost all of the school ground that is younger than him), “Four-Eyes” (prime insult of Suzume Hojo) )
Born on November 29
Son of Etsuya and Nene
Specialises in: “Alchemy cooking”
Affiliation: Totsuki, Elite Ten Council (8th Seat)
Shigeo is an incredibly cocky young man who is, despite his age, doing a lot of consulting work aside from being a student on Totsuki. An immense hunger for money as well as power is what characterizes Shigeo the most. He's used to always getting what he wants and does not take 'no' for an answer. An he truly is very experienced in manipulating people, utilizing dirty tactics or straight up threaten people to have his way.
Again not completed yet, there’s also the 113th Generation + a few younger children
Thanks for Reading!

A Casual Opening
Summary: Chapter nine of On Casual Commitments!
It was the night of the soft opening of one of the most anticipated new restaurants of the decade, and every titan in the culinary world had fought, bribed, or begged his name onto the guest list.
On the far left side of the rooftop bar, overlooking the city, a reporter from the New York Times attempted to get a quote from Kobayashi Rindou, while her husband tried to stop her from stuffing an hors d'oeuvre down the poor journalist’s throat. And to the right a rising statesman hashed out the politics of hunger with Arato Hisako, who was dressed in a black evening gown with a slit up one side, her huge engagement ring blinding passers-by as she gestured.
But in the midst of all the pomp and circumstance, all the envy and intrigue, they were still just four guys chilling at a bar.
“It looks like Arato-san has that ambassador on the ropes,” Marui said as he glanced around the open space.
Shoji, who had always possessed a quixotic sort of affection for her, nodded emphatically. “Hayama doesn’t deserve that woman,” he said, and they let him have that personal truth.
“Don’t think of it as her marrying him. It’s just old money marrying new money,” Daigo pointed out. “It’s gotta be a hundred million US between them.”
Shoji only shrugged. “He’s still an asshole.”
“That’s how it goes sometimes,” Marui said, pushing his glasses further up on his nose.
“Says the man who just left his fiance,” Ibusaki replied as he sipped his beer.
The bespectacled man shook his head. In truth, he had walked right into that one. Two months ago, he had been engaged to Enomoto Madoka. But after returning to Tōtsuki to help move Fumio-san to her retirement community, an old spark unexpectedly ignited.
Namely, as they packed the boxes and revisited all the vestiges of their Polar Star years, he was faced with the fact that as long as Yoshino Yuki walked this earth, he couldn’t spend his life with another woman.
“I’d rather not discuss it—”
“Leave it to Marui,” Daigo chimed in, slapping the grad student’s shoulder. “To think you’d be the one to spark the biggest scandal since SouMegeddon!”
“It’s still fucked up that we call it that,” said Shun, as he sipped his drink.
Marui had to agree. All things considered, the breakup had been pretty drama-free. He was about to tell them as much, but the words died on his lips when she walked in, wearing a fuchsia cocktail dress and flanked by Ryouko and one of her colleagues from the Food Network. He had always known that she belonged on TV.
She winked discreetly at him before taking a champagne flute from a passing server’s tray, much to the amusement of Daigo and Shoji. Already he could tell that it was going to be a long night.
“What craziness is Yukihira up to this time?” Takumi asked as he scrolled through the menu questionnaire.
“Hey! It’s like a Buzzfeed quiz,” Hinako pointed out, shoving her Canvas iPad in her husband’s face.
“Calm yourself,” Shinomiya said, even as his eyes remained fixed on the menu. “It’s just another one of the brat’s cheap tricks. Once we figure out the code, it won’t be that impressive.”
A small smile grew on Megumi’s face as she ran her fingers over her tablet’s sumptuous leather case.
She remembered lying in bed with him on some rainy Sunday afternoon in Paris or Milan, his fingers tracing lazy patterns on the small of her back.
What if you could make dishes out of people’s moods?
She had given him an indulgent smile, a lingering kiss; leave it to him to start thinking about cooking right after sex.
What do you mean, Souma-kun?
You know, if you could know what your customers want even better than they do.
I think only a god could do something like that, she had said, stretching. A god or you.
His cooking had finally reached Olympus.
Megumi shook her head softly, returning to reality as Doujima-san and another Tōtsuki executive joined their table. As the years went on, sometimes it was easy to forget how much she had loved him. It was why she couldn’t let herself hold him back from all of this, from the pinnacle. More than anyone else she knew, Yukihira Souma deserved to make history.
“Is something wrong, tesoro mio?” Takumi asked her after they finished ordering, so to speak. “You’ve been so quiet.”
“Just thinking,” she said, resting a palm against her slightly protruding stomach, remembering that she had also gotten everything she deserved.
Nakiri Erina heaved a great sigh as a young sous chef held the plate in front of her for inspection, fatigued by the unrelenting incompetence that surrounded her in this world.
“What is that?” she asked, pointing to the red sauce’s arrangement.
The boy blinked a few times, clearly taken by surprise. “I-is there an error, Chef Nakiri?”
She crossed her arms over her chest. “I specifically told you that the chili sauce should be arranged in the shape of a comma.”
The sous chef looked down at his work. “Yes, and—”
“And that is clearly a single quotation mark,” she said through gritted teeth. “Wipe it off and do it again. Before the filet loses heat.”
“Yes, Chef Nakiri! Right away.”
When Erina turned around another assistant was waiting patiently for her to taste test a pottage.
“If you would, chef,” the dark haired girl said. This should be fun.
Erina grabbed a clean spoon and tried it. Everything was fine, really. The girl had followed her recipe to the letter, but...
“You left it on the stove for half a second too long.”
“I deeply apologize!” the girl cried out, hanging her head low. “Allow me to start from scratch.”
“And how do you intend to make up for all the time you’ve lost us?”
“I...I um...” The girl’s eyes quickly started to well with tears.
“Don’t sweat it,” Souma told the sous chef as he came over, all bright eyes and electric smiles. Erina could tell the little whelp would fall in love with him before the night was over. “Just ladle the pottage into a different pot and leave out what’s at the bottom.”
The girl shot Erina a nervous glance before heading back to her station.
“Nakiri, you need to chill,” he told her with an easy grin when they were as close to alone as they could be in the crowded kitchen. “They’re gonna make more mistakes if you keep them on edge like that.”
“And what would you have me do? You know how particular those critics can be!”
“I know no one but you can taste half a second’s difference.” Souma kissed her, then pressed his forehead against hers. “Just relax.”
Erina, knowing that half the kitchen was probably watching their quasi-romantic spectacle instead of doing their damn jobs, pulled herself away. “You’ve got some nerve telling me to relax. Neither one of us handles stress particularly well.”
“That’s not—”
“You smoked a whole pack of cigarettes this morning. Let me yell at people.” With that she turned on her heel and left to attend to half a dozen rabbit entrees, determined to only ream out the staff for the most egregious of errors.
“So,” Doujima Gin said to his longtime friend as the event was drawing to a close, “What are you gonna do now that the boy’s finally surpassed you?”
“In cooking?” Jouichirou smirked, drinking his bourbon. “He did that a long time ago. But he’s still losing.”
“How can that be true?” asked Jun as she made meager progress with her pinot grigio.
“When I was his age I was already married with a kid.”
“What’s that got to do with anything, Saiba-senpai?” Jun asked, scowling. “You can’t just make up new criteria out of nowhere. That’s just like you!”
Jouichirou merely shrugged. “I don’t know how Erina entertains that dumbass.”
“They’re good for each other,” Doujima said. Then his face turned stern. “You’d know that if you came around more often.”
“Exactly,” Jun said. “It’s wholly unacceptable.”
“Why is it that I can’t show up anywhere without being lectured by you two?”
“Because even after all these years your behavior is still too loose,” Doujima told him. “How long are you going to keep acting like a teenager?”
Jouichirou sighed. “How about this: when I get some grandkids, I’ll straighten up.”
“I’d have to see that in order to believe it,” Jun said. After all, this was a man who had slept through half his exams during finals week.
“Maybe you will,” he said before standing to take his leave.
“You’re not going to congratulate your son?” Doujima asked, though he already knew the answer.
“The newspapers will do that well enough,” he said. “And I have a flight to catch.”
“That man.” Jun rolled her eyes once he had left her line of sight.
Doujima shook his head. “If nothing else, I imagine he’d be fun as a grandfather.”

Amaranthine: second generation headcanon list
And after what feels like forever, here is the Amaranthine second-gen list. I had a lot of ideas for this beyond what I covered in the story, and compiling the list gave me yet more, so as a result there's a bonus section of second genners here that have no role or mention in the story here as well.I might or might not write more fics around this AU that might or might not end up including them, but if you want to know more about a particular kid (or their 3E parent, for that matter!), feel free to drop me an ask or whatever :)
Anyway, I hope you find this list (starting under the cut, as always!)interesting, and here's the link to the original story:   https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11912649/1/Amaranthine
Note 1: Though I've given birth years for all of them, only Kaguya has a birthday listed, because she's the only one who I assigned a specific birthday to.
Note 2: There are some death dates listed for children here, but though there are quite a few in the bonus section that I imagine to have premature deaths, I’ve only made a point of listing the death dates for those who died as children/babies rather than just generally young. This is because for the ones whose premature deaths occur in adulthood, I haven’t decided a year/age they die at, just general circumstances.
Note 3: Something weird happened when I copy-pasted this from word to the post, so though I've tried to neaten it up the fonts and format may be weird.
Main
Rinka Hayami and Ryuunosuke Chiba
Kaguya Hayami, born 20th May, 2031. She is named Kaguya because of her mother’s fear that somehow, she’d turn out to not really belong to her, that she was a loan from the gods to make up for their cruelty in killing Chiba, and that one day she’d have to give her back. Though Kaguya is a warm natured person who gets along with others and expresses her emotions easily, she is as reserved and quiet as both her parents are/were. Though mother and daughter have always gotten on, the night Hayami revealed everything about the past to her marked a new, deeper closeness between them.  Kaguya’s closest childhood/school friends are Iruka and Ageha Akasaka (see below).
  Hinano Kurahashi
Masami Akasaka (former surname Tachibana), born 2023. Her bio parents were childhood friends of her father, and they made him and Hinano her legal guardians, which is how they came to adopt her when she was four and her parents died in an accident. Though she calls them ‘Papa Shinji’ and ‘Mama Hinano’ all her life, she considers them her parents as much as her bio ones, and loves them deeply. Masami is cheerful and happy-go-lucky, and has a wide variety of interests. She goes on to have a large family herself.
Suzume Akasaka, born 2027. Elder twin by fifteen minutes, she’s basically a brown-eyed version of Hinano, except more sparky and argumentative. In elementary and early middle school, she gets into a lot of fights-though usually with good intention-but she grows out of this before she can be labelled a delinquent, much to everyone’s relief.  She adores dogs most of all and thus ends up running a dog shelter.
Tsubame Akasaka, born 2027. Despite being the younger twin, she tends to be the bossier, take-charge one in a way more befitting an older sibling. She loves pranks, especially twin-switch ones, and would have probably gotten along well with Rio in another life, and later on life this translates to a general carefree attitude about life.
Iruka ‘Iru’ Akasaka, born 2030. He often despairs at being the only brother in a bunch of sisters, but on the other hand it means that he is well acquaintance with the quirks and foibles of females and is rarely fazed by anything (though he tends to be the straight man in most social interactions).  This makes him a bit of an oddity amongst his classmates and friends throughout his life, but also leaves them in awe of him. He tries on a variety of careers and eventually settles on training as a teacher and working for The Sanctuary (the school that Megu, Hinano and Hayami eventually make from the old 3E campus once Gakuho Asano dies) once it opens. He goes by his nickname because he finds his actual name a little dorky (“seriously, who wants to be named ‘dolphin’?”)
Ageha ‘Acchan’ Akasaka, born 2032. A precocious reader and quick to pick up mathematical concepts, she ends up skipping a year near the end of elementary school, and ends up in the same year as Kaguya for middle and high school. Physically speaking, she’s the one who resembles her father the most.
 Megu Kataoka
Misa Watanabe (former surname Takechi), born 2036. The elder twin by ten minutes, Misa is fierce and overprotective of her two little brothers, and has always been mature for her age. She is the one that remembers the most of her old parents, and though she has no wish to reconnect with that aspect of her life, she bears the scars in the form of having trouble in letting herself be helped. She develops a passion for the stars and pursues this to become one of the most influential astronomers of her generation.
Manabu Watanabe (former surname Takechi), born 2036. Though he’s technically the quieter twin, Manabu is no less protective or dedicated than his sister is. He eventually goes on to be a policeman and values the justice system highly, so when his mother dies and he receives her letter, the contents don’t sit easy with him. He does eventually reconcile it though, and goes on to work closely with The Sanctuary afterwards.
Yuuma Watanabe (former surname Takechi, no first name before adoption), born 2037. Sweet and imaginative, Yuuma can seem as gentlemanly and kind as his namesake, but a lot more dreamy and sometimes more innocent. He struggles in school most of his life, but works hard and makes it through, and becomes a relatively successful novelist-many of the squad, Isogai included, become fans of his works.
Bonus
 Squad members
Touka Yada
Eriko Sakakibara, born 2020. The unplanned, unwanted consequence of a mission when Yada was 20, Eriko was abandoned and eventually adopted, and knows nothing of her biological mother’s background. Her adoptive parents were not very loving or warm parents and as a result Eriko had a rough, rebellious adolescence which ended in a teenage pregnancy that resulted in her beloved daughter, Marika (who eventually ends up in the first 3E that Megu, Hinano and Hayami teach). This gave Eriko a purpose, and she pulled herself together worked extremely hard to be able to bring her up alone, giving her the love and nurturing that she herself never experienced and eventually becoming the co-owner of a successful cat cafe.
  Takuya Muramatsu
Natsuya Muramatsu, born 2027.Though his brash behaviour and relaxed attitude to dress code make him seem a lot like the stereotypical delinquent in a similar way to how his father appeared, in truth he is a lot more shrewd, sly and smart than that, which makes him the perfect candidate to take over Takuya’s role in the squad when the time comes.
Shin’ya Muramatsu, born 2028. A quiet guy who goes with the flow and prefers to stay out of conflict, Shin’ya is more than happy to stay behind the scenes and be the cook while Natsuya takes the lead and does most of the squad-related things.
Tomohito Sugino and Yukiko Kanzaki
Nanako Sugino, born 2024, deceased 2027. Though she was unplanned and initially seen as an inconvenience by her parents, she was loved deeply and her death due to a sickness and medical negligence hit both her parents hard. Her memory is often used as a driving motivation behind the squad’s targeting of corrupt medical industries and hospitals (things that contributed to Nanako’s death). Nanako was basically a typical happy three year old who loved fairies and unicorns. She was also notably pretty.
Yuuma Isogai
Megumi Isogai, born 2027. She would have been named ‘Megu’, but her mother thought that was an incomplete name and argued for other alternatives-‘Megumi’ was the compromise in the end, but she is still definitely named for Megu Kataoka. Anyway, she never seems to fit in with her family despite being very much her father’s favourite (she even looks a lot like him, minus the ahoge), and after a childhood of railing against a sheltered upbringing, she runs away from home at the age of 17 and is never heard of again. It is unclear how much she knew of her family’s activities prior to this.
Mayuri Isogai, born 2030. Probably the most docile and compliant of the three Isogai daughters, she is basically the other extreme of having such a sheltered, insular childhood. She goes on to take on a job in one of Yada’s legitimate business ventures, reporting back relevant information to her family and the rest of the squad but otherwise keeping on the right side of the law.  She’s pleasant enough and fiercely loyal to her family, but doesn’t have much of a personality.
Tsumugi Isogai, born 2032. Though she tended to get a little restless from being so coddled, being a Tsumugi never actually minded it that much. She’s generally a chill person, though with a slightly cold streak-she tends to be hurtful in her words and rarely shows much compassion to others apart from her family (except for Megumi, who she always dismisses as ‘causing drama’ whenever she’s mentioned). She goes on to become one of the squad’s main assassins.
Saki Isogai, born 2033. Probably the most relaxed and ‘normal’ of the Isogai siblings, Saki decides on a law-abiding life, though she always stays close to her family-she takes the option of pretending she knows nothing. After all, her upbringing was such that such a thing is plausible. In taking this approach, she proves herself more strategic and calculating than most people around her would give her credit for, especially as she seems so straightforward. Saki is also the only sibling who has inherited the Isogai ahoge.
  Hiroto Maehara
(Note: All of these kids are the result of reckless flings/affairs/one-night stands that occur during, but not related to, various squad missions)
Yuka Yamada, born 2022. Abandoned by her young mother as a toddler, Yuka has a rough, abusive childhood in care and winds up gravitating towards crime as a teenager and running away. Various tricky life events occur before she eventually cleans up her act and gets work at a florists. During one of the rough years, she meets and helps Megumi Isogai, and though their friendship lasts only a few months and they never kept in contact, that time helped to contribute towards Yuka’s subsequent decision to straighten out.
Kimiya Satsuki, born 2025. The result of an affair, Kimiya has no idea that the person he calls ‘Dad’ is not actually his father. He is the second of four children (one older brother, one younger brother, one younger sister), and has a happy childhood in a coastal town, and grows up to run his family inn.
Kazunari Taira, born 2031, deceased 2040. Small for his age, Kazunari was hyperactive and funny and full of plans and ideas. The only child that Maehara actually had a  (distant but still fond) relationship with, Kazunari died in what was disguised as an accident, but was a murder made as a threat to the squad (his mother is oblivious to this truth, thankfully). After his death, Maehara vowed to be a lot more careful in the future so that he didn’t have any more children who could come to such harm.
Anna-Louisa ‘Ally’ Warren (nee Harding), born 2039. Raised in America, Anna had a slightly tough but generally loving childhood, and though she always wondered about her father (especially as her mother couldn’t give many answers beyond the vague), it was not until well into her adult life after a bitter divorce that she was motivated to go to Japan to try and track him down. She did not succeed, but ended up seduced by the culture and decided to make a fresh start there. She ended up working at one of Yada’s legitimate business ventures, and Yada instantly suspected who she could be, but decided to keep it secret from both of them.
   Other non-squad members
Taisei Yoshida
Seiko Yoshida, born 2026. A pretty, popular girl, Seiko always sensed that there’s a part of her father that comes from another sort of world (as she thinks of it), and is the only one of her siblings who is interested in it. As a result, she ends up often helping her father pass on cards from Isogai and things like that, and ends up working for Yuzuki Fuwa in her quest to become a private detective (which she achieves). Childhood friends with the Itou kids (see below), she dates and eventually marries Ichiro, the eldest.
Taichi Yoshida, born 2029. Loud, annoying but ultimately well meaning, he’s basically a typical annoying little brother towards Seiko, and a protective-but-teasing older brother to Ema. He becomes part of a boy band in his late teens until his mid-twenties (he’s quite the good singer), but then when they disband goes to work for his dad’s garage.
Ema Yoshida, born 2032. Otherwise super-girly and basically tiny and sweet and adorable, she surprises everyone by showing an aptitudes for mechanics, and seems to take a little too much pleasure from subverting expectations. She ends up going to the same university as Ageha, and though they end up in a lot of the same classes during their degrees and know each other well as a result, they don’t connect enough for them to realise any connections between their families.
  Sumire Hara
Ichiro Itou, born 2026. A brotherly, caring type who charms everyone he encounters, the handsome Ichiro is pretty much as popular as Seiko and in high school they’re basically the golden couple. He has an odd but deep interest in different types of tea.
Asahi Itou, born 2028. Eldest of the triplets, Asahi is a headstrong, fierce girl who knows what she wants and just aims for it, with little hesitation. A feminist, she’s radical enough in her views as a young girl to rail against the fact that her mother is a housewife, and does not understand why she would be happy with that or how she could choose that. She only gains that understanding as an adult, and thus for a lot of her life her relationship with her mother is tense.
Mahiru Itou, born 2028. Headstrong like Asahi, but more measured than fierce, Mahiru is generally considered the more sensible of the triplets. She eventually goes on to be a criminal lawyer, and has several close brushes with the squad, which causes her mother no end of anxiety, though Sumire never tells her precisely why she keeps begging Mahiru to find another job.
Yuuhi Itou, born 2028. The youngest of the triplets. He’s close friends with Taichi Yoshida, being the quieter, more anxious straight man to Taichi’s impulsive, reckless goofball, and he also joins the band that Taichi joins as a late teen (he plays the drums). When the band splits up, he goes into music production. He struggles with anxiety for a lot of his life, but manages it.
Kaoru Itou, born 2030. Very interested in fashion, Kaoru is flamboyant, imaginative and creative, and loves to make clothes and accessories for his nearest and dearest, and makes a successful career out of it. He moves to Australia as an adult, but visits Japan constantly.
Mirai Itou, born 2037. A surprise child, he’s very much coddled and adored by the rest of his family, and acts a little spoiled because of this. However he’s a hardworking, passionate person, and as someone who never really fits in with the strict educational system (though he does well), he is eventually motivated to also work for The Sanctuary.
  Kirara Hazama
Shiki Nakajima, born and deceased 2027. A stillborn son, his name is written to mean ‘poem’. Though his parents think of him pretty much every day and he is still thought of as part of the family (his name is still on the plaque listing the family’s names outside the Nakajima’s front door), he is not talked about.
Bunko Nakajima, born 2033. A sunny faced, sunny natured girl, nobody can believe that she and Hazama are related when they look at the two of them together. The only feature they appear to share is curly hair, and even that’s a stretch. However, Bunko is just as book obsessed as her mother (and her father, for that matter) and has a similar dark sense of humour and interest/knowledge in the occult and she can be creepy when she wants to be. She starts a book-critique blog called ‘Literary Child’ (which is what her name means) that becomes a hit in the book world.
  Taiga Okajima
Kiyomi Okajima, born 2031. Brash, down to earth, overly blunt and not easily fazed, Kiyomi is not someone you want to challenge. A lesbian, she finds it hilarious that her father’s reaction to her coming out in her teens is to be happy that he can pass down his own porn collection from his adolescence instead of having to find male porn to give to her. Though she does turn it down anyway.
  Karma Akabane
Saito Akabane, born 2028. Physically resembling his father, he is nothing like him personality wise, being a straight-laced, overly serious sort of person who goes onto become a doctor. It horrifies him when he learns of his father’s past and the sort of people his former classmates became, and his struggle to understand it causes a rift in their relationship for a while, but they reconcile when Saito has his own children.
Toshiko Akabane, born 2029. A bit more cheeky and relaxed, Toshiko does seem a lot more like her father, personality wise. Though she’s generally someone who believes in the law, for some reason she finds it easier to accept her father’s past. Witnessing horrible experiences classmates and friends go through, she is eventually motivated to open a women’s shelter, walking away from a shiny government job to achieve this. She allows the squad to refer people they rescue to her.

Saekano the Movie: Finale – Where Scenario Ends and Reality Begins
Tumblr media
It’s been three years since Saekano Flat, and to be honest I haven’t kept up with news about a continuation of the story. All I know is I wanted to see it end happily with Tomoya and Megumi as a couple, and however it did that was fine. So imagine my surprise and delight upon learning a full-length movie would wrap everything up!
We pick up where Flat left off: Eriri and Utaha working on Fields Chronicle with Kosaka Akane at Mazuru; while Tomoya, Megumi, Michiru and Izumi work on Blessing Software’s next game: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend. At an after-party for Icy Tail’s first solo performance, the two Blessing Defectors show up to support their friends, but their boss Kosaka inserts herself into the festivities to berate their work and force them to redo it.
Tomoya and Megumi aren’t really a couple yet, but they might as well be. Not coincidentally, Tomoya is in a slump with regards to writing the scene in which the protagonist confesses to the main heroine. He seeks Utaha for help, but runs into Kosaka first. Kosaka laughs at his story at first, but encourages him to embrace his inner deluded otaku and “masturbate more”—literarily speaking, of course…
Tumblr media
Around midnight before their senior year begins, Tomoya runs by his Kosaka-inspired rewrites to Megumi. The two aren’t just on the phone for hours anymore, but Skype, face to face. It’s always been so lovely to watch these two simply working together like this while also dropping hints about how they feel about one another.
While Tomoya is determined to keep a crucial scene despite Megumi’s misgivings, he obviously wants her take on the main heroine, because she’s his main heroine. No big hug or crying fit is necessary, an ordinary event is sufficient to raising her flag. Before falling asleep to his typing, well past 3 AM, Megumi and Tomoya decide that because the game’s couple will be on first-name basis from this point on, they should do the same thing.
The next day at school, Izumi is about to greet Tomoya and Megumi, but sees how close they are and doesn’t interrupt (Eriri does though, not reading the room at all). The two then decide to act out a scene at the train station where they hold hands, and by God, the way those hands are animated—so subtle and gentle and loving.
Tumblr media
Tomoya plans another “scouting” trip to Ikebukuro for them to “gather material”, on a day he knows to be Megumi’s birthday. When she asks if that’s all they’ll be doing, he initially puts the onus on her to say what she wants, then asks her if it’s okay if it’s about more than that, she says it is; that any reason will do. Then she notes that she’s not responsible for “what might happen”, before abruptly hanging up.
Their mutual realization they were about to go on a date for her birthday, not as mere colleagues working on a game, but as a couple taking the next step, is priceless to behold. I got so caught up in the buildup of anticipation and excitement to that magical day, I forgot how much movie was left. The day arrives, Megumi is at the meeting spot in the same outfit that first inspired Tomoya, only for him to call and tell her he can’t make it.
It was like a door in my chest opened up and my heart just fell on to the floor with a gruesome splat. Thankfully, he didn’t stand her up because he chickened out, but due to circumstances outside his control. Kosaka Akane had a stroke, and since she wasn’t carrying any ID, Tomoya’s card was the closest thing to an emergency contact.
Tumblr media
This development angered me at first because it’s precisely the kind of dramatic twist he was trying to avoid for the Main Heroine route. Due to the stroke, Kosaka can’t currently use her right hand. Utaha tries to get Tomoya not to worry about them by saying her and Eriri’s work is mostly done, but Eriri doesn’t pick up on what Utaha is trying to do, and tells Tomoya the truth: they have no idea what this means for Fields Chronicle.
With Kosaka’s old friend Iori and Utaha’s manager stepping up to fill in while she recuperates, Tomoya initially volunteers to take over Iori’s promoting and negotiating roles for Blessing, but Megumi takes that on instead, insisting he need to have his undivided attention on the scenario. Megumi accepted Tomoya’s explanation and apology, but being stood up on your birthday by the guy you love is hard blow that’s left her weary.
Turns out she has good reason to be. Iori reports back to Tomoya with some dire news: even before Kosaka’s stroke, Fields Chronicle was over a month behind schedule. Kosaka prioritized the rapid artistic growth over finishing the game on time. Now the company is prepared to make deep cuts to both story and characters in order to get something to market without further delay.
Tumblr media
This would obviously be an intolerable compromise for Utaha and Eriri, but they both know they can’t be the ones to try to argue their case to the company. They need someone who can go to the plate and negotiate, plead, and even get on his knees and passionately beg when logical arguments fail. And there’s just one person like that who knows and believes in their work. So they make the call.
Tomoya and Megumi meet up and sit on the same bench where they tenderly held hands and blushed, only for Megumi to deduce he’s going to Osaka to help Utaha and Eriri with their game. Tomoya cites how this is Utaha and Eriri’s best and possibly only chance at achieving true greatness and living up to their potential, and he can’t stand by and let their dreams be crushed.
But Megumi points out that he’s putting those dreams and that game ahead of their dreams and their game. Unable to hold back tears, she tells Tomoya that she can’t be his main heroine anymore, and boards the next train. But Tomoyo presses on for Osaka, and eventually makes some real progress, extending their deadline and sacrificing two characters so they don’t have to eliminate five. He sends Megumi texts, but she doesn’t reply. Why should she?
Tumblr media
With their writer and leader gone, Blessing is on hold as far as Megumi is concerned. She’s also so rightfully angry at Tomoya her heart just isn’t in it…but Michiru and Izumi eventually get her to take up the mantle of their new leader, doing what they can do in Tomoya’s stead.
Indeed, Michiru and Izumi become a lot more assertive in telling Megumi they know she and Tomoya have been dating and are now fighting. Megumi rejects their idle gossip, but something fishy is going on: Izumi is drawing Megumi during her anguish, while Iori is typing on the other end of Izumi’s Bluetooth.
Tumblr media
Utaha and Eriri end up completing their work, but rather than celebrate, Tomoya heads home at once. After he leaves, the girls remember what they agreed on before asking Tomoya to help: that in return, they’d help him finish his game and help him make up with Megumi. This meant letting go of Tomoya as a potential romantic partner for good and letting Megumi win.
While Tomoya was in Osaka, every minute he wasn’t helping Utaha and Eriri with their game, he was still writing the scenario for his, while at the same time penning a lengthy letter attempting to describe his feelings for Megumi. When he returns home she’s waiting on his stoop, his letter in her inbox, which she describes as “disgusting”.
Megumi wants to be mad at Tomoya and doesn’t want to forgive him for what he did, but she also “doesn’t care” about any of that, because what’s most important is that she loves him. That’s why she brushes his hand away once, but not twice. The second time she keeps their hands locked, and then Tomoya beats her to it by confessing first.
Tumblr media
Tomoya loves his 2D Main Heroine, but he loves the 3D Katou Megumi most. When she asks why, he says it isn’t out of admiration, obsession, or obligation. He’s perfectly frank in telling her she seemed more in his league as a partner than the dazzling, infinitely more talented Utaha or Eriri. Only with Megumi can he feel and act like himself and tell her what he’s really feeling.
One would think Megumi should be insulted by Tomoya’s rationale for choosing her. But in a continuation of her monologue to Michiru and Izumi, she confesses that she wants Tomoya to be hers and no one else’s. Because there’s no drama, like the other girls. Because they’re so wonderfully “normal” together. So Tomoya’s explanation passes muster.
Soon the two are locked in a hug, and when Megumi’s eyes are closed, after some hesitation Tomoya kisses her. She wasn’t quite ready, so she kisses him in turn. Finally, the two count down to have a perfectly timed third kiss. This was one of the best anime first kiss(es) scenes I’ve ever seen.
Tumblr media
Kosaka recovers, thanking Tomoya for his help while she was out of commission and offering to read his work (and skewer it viciously) anytime. Tomoya incorporates the details of his and Megumi’s real-life mutual confession into the game and Izumi creates more art for it.
Eriri and Utaha arrive to help out and immediately insert their strong personalities into the project with abandon. When Eriri takes a break, Tomoya follows her out to apologize for…well, everything, but most importantly for what he doesn’t explicitly state: not choosing her. She takes it as well as she could be expected to, asking before heading back whether Tomoya loved her ten years ago.
Eriri then joins Megumi for a bath and briefly waterboards her in frustration, not just that she lost, but that Megumi loved Tomoya so much they made up and started dating before Eriri or Utaha could arrive to help them. After the whole gang pulls a near-all-nighter to complete the game, the two girls tuck everyone in and head out, vowing to keep running together so he can’t catch up, knowing he’ll keep chasing them regardless.
Tumblr media
The day of Comiket arrives, and Tomoya and Megumi head to the venue hand in hand like the couple they are. Tomoya wonders if 2,000 copies was too many to print, but they sell every one, validating their hard work as well as the inspiration Megumi provided.
Tomoya and Megumi graduate from high school and return to the spot where they first met, with Megumi in her now-iconic red sweater and white cap and skirt. Roll credits!
Tumblr media
After the credits we jump forward what looks like a couple if not a few years. Megumi is suggesting to an overworked Tomoya that they break up, since he’s stuck at his sales job so much they hardly ever see each other, and in any case suspects he still carries a flame for a certain someone. Tomoya has given up on his dreams, and while Iori hasn’t, he’s now a penniless delusional vagrant.
Just when I thought we’d reached Saekano’s “Bad Ending”, Tomoya suddenly encounters a short-haired Utaha by the waterfront, the music rises, and she’s about to start singing when Eriri snaps us out of it; this was just the visualization of a spec script for a new game half-jokingly written by Utaha. The two are in a meeting with Iori and a Tomoya who is very much living the dream of being. Glorious fake-out!
He is the president and Megumi the vice president of Blessing, now an established and successful game company. Utaha’s script hit Tomoya hard, though, so he hugs Megumi when he sees her next, and asks her to reassure him she’s not going anywhere. Of course, she does, but when Tomoya leans in to kiss, she wants to save it for when they get home.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, they are unable to bone when they get home, because their apartment is suddenly overrun by the talent: not just Michiru and Izumi, but Utaha and Eriri have also shown up for their first sleepover meeting in years. Tomoya and Megumi take the intrusion in stride, but Megumi makes sure to steal a kiss, in the process revealing he put a ring on it. Good lad! The six friends gather around the table for a toast to another hit from Blessing, and the curtain finally falls for good on the movie, and on Saekano.
Until I sunk my teeth into this movie, I didn’t realize how much I missed the show’s great mix of comedy, romance, drama, artistry and extremely effective fanservice. I could hardly have asked for a better, more satisfying ending than the one we got.

A Heartwarming Story of Young Love
By Kaitlin Meaney
Well, it’s February, the month of Valentine’s Day! I know it might not be the best holiday for some of us but the anime I will be introducing you to this month will surely make you feel the warm and fuzzies!
This month I’ll be reviewing a series called Say I Love You (Sukkitte Ii na yo in Japanese) Yet another series that I re-watched for this article, this show had such an affect on me when I first watched it that I had been itching to talk about it. Thankfully I have a way of reviewing it now so get ready for some possible fangirling!
Anyone ever had a relationship in high school that helped you understand how relationships work? If not, then this show will show you what it’s like. It centers around a girl named Mei Tachibana who has given up on making friends because she thinks that any friend she makes will just betray her and take advantage of her friendship. She has grown up being bullied because of her anti-social behaviour but she prefers to be alone. That is, until Yamato Kurosawa, the most popular guy in school, takes notice of her. They begin a budding romance that happens throughout the course of the series learning about what it really means to be in love and how it works. Mei also befriends other classmates through Yamato and begins trusting the people around her once again.

Now, in shoujo anime (anime aimed towards girls) the story often ends once the relationship between the two love interests begins. In this series, it begins the relationship very early. They finally meet in the first episode and they start dating in the third. Due to this fact we get to see their relationship grow and blossom while things beyond their control are threatening to pull them apart. They power through once they realize that there is more to a relationship than they thought. I found myself spending a lot of my time watching this saying to these characters in my thoughts through all the misunderstandings: just talk, that’s all you need to do to fix this issue. But that is something they have to learn themselves rather than being told. The part where this happens for the first time after Yamato and Mei have begun their relationship. A model named Megumi comes around and recruits Yamato so model with her. He decides to do so because Mei encourages him. Rumours fly that Yamato is practically cheating on Mei and their friends convince them to talk. The episode ends with Mei saying that that they’re both new to love which is why everything is so scary. I found this to be my favourite part of the series because it was so relatable. Misunderstandings happen a lot in relationships and communication is important to prevent them. I really love that this was used in the series because it realistically conveys how naïve these characters are and how much more they need to learn as they go along.
Mei is a fascinating character, in my opinion. Heck the first time she speaks to Yamato she kicks him in the face because his friend Nakanishi pulled on her skirt. She grows so much throughout the series, even in the first few episodes where she makes new friends while dating Yamato and even realizing her feelings for him. She is very real and honest and helps her friends in anyway she can, while learning that she must help herself as well. Help herself to understand that she needs to trust Yamato. When something happens between her and Yamato she always assumes it’s her fault and she overthinks everything. In the final episode when Yamato is home sick and Mei decides to visit him and his sister makes her think that he doesn’t want to see her. She goes on to think that he’s mad at her for other things she did that might have angered him. Honestly I found myself telling the screen, No Mei he loves you, he wouldn’t say that come on! But this show, obviously, creates drama simply to fill the length of the episodes but at times it does leave you in enough suspense to keep you interested. Wondering what each character is really thinking is fascinating. Every character is relatable. They all have their own issues and regrets they have to work through. In the end they all realize, Mei especially, that one doesn’t need to suffer alone, it’s okay to rely on the people who care about you.
If anyone reading this had relationships in high school this show will for sure resonate with you. Love is a fragile thing and in those developmental years of high school it is a learning experience and that’s what this anime is trying to convey with this sweet story of two young people. It’s an innocent and beautiful love story that I encourage anyone to watch whether you are single or not.
