September 1983. Although not credited in the digest on whose cover this version was published (BEST OF DC #40, SUPERMAN: THE FABULOUS WORLD OF KRYPTON), this map of Krypton was drawn by Albert de Guzman and originally appeared in THE KRYPTON CHRONICLES #2 (October 1981). Many of the locales shown on the map had appeared in previous Superman stories, in particular the Scarlet Jungle.
A different map of Krypton, drawn by Howard Bender and Joe DelBeato, appeared in the Krypton entry in WHO'S WHO about three years later:
Tumblr media
This version of the map is broadly similar to the De Guzman map above, although the captions for Kandor and Argo City seem to have been transposed: The vignette identified as Kandor appears to be Argo City — Argo had an environmental dome (which is how it survived the destruction of Krypton), while Kandor did not — and the vignette identified as Argo City looks a lot more like Kandor. My guess that someone switched the captions during production, seeing the dome over Argo and mistakenly assuming someone had mislabeled Kandor (which of course is best known as the Bottle City of Kandor).

Personally I’m with Emma here
I am pissed at this woman
Especially for damaging Emma’s fabulous outfit
I’m certainly more upset about Emma’s outfit being damaged than I am about some human idiot dying because he can’t sail a boat properly
Frankly humans in the Mavel universe...who have spent decades doing hate crimes against mutantkind....who  now want to start crying about mutantkind having resurrection while humanity doesn’t?
Provoke the same reaction in me as that moronic woman in the first part of the awful  “Grounded” arc of Superman
That idiot who decided to yell at Superman for not showing up personally to  use his heat vision to fix her husbands cancer  and did so immediately after humanity had just done a war crime against Superman’s people that resulted in hundreds of the few survivors of Krypton dying
Nameley I just think
“Stay right there
I need to go find the worlds tiniest violin
And learn how to play the worlds saddest song on it
Just for you”
“My husband died in a boating accident and mutantkind won’t bring him back!”
Boo-fucking-hoo you moron. A year ago he wouldn’t have been able to come back to life regardless. Mutantkind didn’t invent death, mutantkind just invented a way for mutants to come back to life. Mutants didn’t sink your husbands boat either, his own stupidity did that.
Don’t blame mutants for your loss, blame your husband for being a moron who can’t sail a boat properly
The idiot who pulled this stunt on Emma is probably the kind of moron who follows Tucker Carlson on Twitter and likes and shares every conspiracy theory that crosses her Facebook feed as well.

The Chronological Superman 1969-1971
In 1971, a new backup feature begins intermittently appearing in Superman -- The Fabulous World of Krypton! The series is a collaboration between the Superman writers of the era and trickles out new stories of exotic Krypton’s strange sci-fi history.
Unlike flashback stories from Superman’s past, the Fabulous World of Krypton stories were open subject. The history of Krypton -- independent from the stories involving the evolution of the House of El -- is expanded as far back as their distant days of barbarism.
Most of the stories are deliberately written as fables, fairy tales or Bible stories, such as the infamous story above which introduces Kryptonian schoolchildren to their world’s Adam and Eve -- Alien explorers named Kryp and Tonn.
Although new stories slow to a trickle, the series continues through 1982.

Dan Clowes and DC Comics: A Super-Source Revealed!
Tumblr media
As strange as it is, Daniel Clowes’s ‘Superman’s Birthday’ comic (which I posted here a few days ago), is directly based on DC Comics lore. Clowes’s unusually reflective and articulate Man of Steel references a 1973 back-up feature “The Fabulous World of Krypton” titled “Unhappy Birthday to You!” (Superman #263, written by Cary Bates, penciled by Dick Dillin, inked by Frank McLaughlin). Clowes strips the original of its explanatory sci-fi trappings (”sparkling liquid,” “destructive energy,” “serum,” etc.), leaving in their place an enlightened Man of Sorrow.
Here’s Clowes’s eight-panel comic followed by excerpts of the original eight-page tale (note the close connection between both stories’ last panels):

I bought this issue of SUPERMAN FAMILY at a supermarket of all places--a clear sign of the aggressiveness with which new DC publisher Jeanette Kahn was pushing her new initiative. Having come to the conclusion that one of the things that was causing the comic book business such ills was that the books weren’t as profitable for mainstream retailers as “real magazines”, Kahn initiated the Dollar Comics program: four titles would be converted into 80-page all-new releases priced at a dollar rather than thirty cents. This would generate better profit-per-unit for retailers and perhaps get the product into more outlets.
Tumblr media
SUPERMAN FAMILY was the first of these books that I encountered--the others to make the shift to the Dollar Comic format at this time were WORLD’S FINEST, G.I. COMBAT and HOUSE OF MYSTERY--so two super hero titles, a war book and a weird mystery title, covering multiple genres to see what stuck. All of the books were anthologies, which helped with generating this much material on a monthly basis but which also made them all, in essence, less-than-essential buys. You could read SUPERMAN or BATMAN just fine if you avoided the Dollar Comics, for instance. I’m sure some of the thinking going into these choices involved not wanting to monkey around with the company’s true money-makers by converting them to an unproven format.
Tumblr media
The Dollar Comics initiative lasted for a little over five years, though in that time, as you’d expect, the size of the books dwindled a bit, and the initial ads-free approach was eventually dropped. I don’t know that it had much of an impact one way or the other--certainly, none of the initial Dollar Comics titles was cancelled, at least not for that reason. But once they stopped being new, I don’t know that they opened up as many doors as Kahn had been hoping. Still, it was a worthy experiment.
Tumblr media
If I had to pick one word to describe this inaugural edition of the Dollar Comics SUPERMAN FAMILY, it would be “nice”. All of the stories in it are competently done by seasoned professionals, they’re all well-constructed yarns. But none of them are particularly exciting or engaging or memorable--and, in fact, I didn’t remember a one of them until I cracked this book open again to write up this piece. They all represented five minutes of disposable entertainment, to be read and discarded without another thought.
Tumblr media
There were seven stories in total in this issue, covering the length and breadth of the Superman line of characters, but focusing on the three series--JIMMY OLSEN, LOIS LANE and SUPERGIRL--which had been the backbone of SUPERMAN FAMILY for it’s run up to this point. In the opening Jimmy Olsen tale, the red-headed “Mr. Action” investigates shady goings-on in the world of Ice Hockey, with some assistance from the Man of Steel. The Superbaby tale that follows it up is about the infant from Krypton adopting an alien pet, who turns out to be a stranded alien pilot.
Tumblr media
The third piece is a Lois Lane story that’s very similar to the Jimmy Olsen opener, except that Lois is investigating the world of professional wrestling. Superman is largely absent in this one, but he does appear for a panel or so at the end to wrap everything up. The next story is probably the one that took the greatest attempt to have substance, aided by the always-interesting artwork of a young Marshall Rogers. It’s a Fabulous World of Krypton outing that details that planet’s equivalent of the Christmas holiday, a celebration of the pacifist Jo-Mon whose death by violence brought about Krypton’s first lasting peace. It’s an obvious allegory, but it’s presented with sincerity and heart.
Tumblr media
Next came a full-length Supergirl story nicely illustrated by Mike Vosburg, in which the Maid of Might engages in a rare battle with her cousin’s arch-enemy Lex Luthor. Luthor is after a sample of Kryptonite which rests on the surface of Mars--this was during that time period where all of the Kryptonite on Earth had been transmuted into lead, so the stuff was a bit more rare. And it’s a fake anyway, a ruse by Supergirl to draw out Luthor. That’s followed up with a light Krypto story in which the flying canine first emasculates and then restores the confidence of a protective junkyard hound. Truly these were life-and-death stakes.
Tumblr media
The book closes on another Jimmy Olsen story, in which the reporter is gifted with telepathy by an imperiled mentalist and has to come to his aid. Once again, it’s Superman who does most of the heavy lifting here. So it was a nice, think package, of the sort that always appealed to me as a kid. And yet, I found it unfulfilling--there wasn’t anything in the issue that I found especially memorable, which was almost never the case in a comic book this large. So it would be a while before I sampled another issue of SUPERMAN FAMILY.

Retrospective Thought: Top Ten Games of 2017
Another year goes by, and another list of games that I thought were stellar, great and splendid to play. 2016 was a pretty alright year for games, but this year, with a myriad of stellar as fuck releases? personally blew the previous year out of the water with some stellar as hell titles, new IPs or new entries in existing franchises. As good as games this year might be, 2017 was NOT without its controversy, specifically the rise of Loot Boxes(thank you EA, Activision-Blizzard). Nonetheless, without further waiting, here’s my top ten games of 2017.
10) Yakuza 0(PS4) -
I’m a huge fan of the Yakuza series, seeing it as the last bastion of good Sega Games made by Sega themselves, despite their continuation of fuckin up Sonic. Yakuza 0 is basically a prequel, set before the events of the original game and putting you in the shoes of a young Kazuma and a young Majima Goro. The action is ridiculously fun and over the top as previous entries, including a new Fighting Style that allows you to switch between styles for varying strategies against waves of foes. The story is still as crazy, funny, emotionally gripping and tense as one can get from a Crime Drama centered around the Yakuza. The characters are all larger than life, greatly developed and just a pleasure to see, whether its new guys just for this entry or returning characters at a younger period of their lives. Pick this game up if you haven’t played the Yakuza games, it’s a great starting point. Pick it up if you’re a fan of the series too.
9) Nioh (PS4/WIN) -
Tecmo Koei’s “Dark Souls” only it’s set in Feudal Japan, post Nobunaga. Originally, this title was expected to be out in 2004, but was kicked into development Hell until it’s re-announcement in 2015/16. Following the adventures of William Blake as he searches for Guardian Spirit who has been taken by the evil Edward Kelley. William meets many allies, some who may sacrifice themselves to help him help Japan’s Amrita problem. the gameplay is great and greatly fun, solid and responsive as it needs to be. It blends both the flashy badassery of Dynasty Warriors and the tense, pulse pounding grit of Dark Souls. While playing second fiddle to the gameplay and loot system, the story is delightfully cheesy and over the top, it’s hilarious in most parts and well worth getting engaged in. Buy it for your DW/DS/both DS and DW fix.
8) Resident Evil 7(PS4/WIN/XO) -
Resident Evil needed a dire rehaul, reinvention and a total reimagining from the ground up. RE6 was a dumpster filled with half ideas and lazy gameplay. Resi Evil 7 was teased, showing a rather stylistic change, possibly to jump on the hype left by Silent Hills, but nonetheless it ended up working for the better. The scares were there, more cerebral than ever whilst taking that traditional Resi Evil feel and introverting it into quite possibly the best RE game since 4. Get it if you’ve been wanting that AAA Survival horror atmosphere, definitely worth the price.
7) Pyre(WIN/PS4) -
from the developers of Bastion and Transistor, two incredibly stellar indie titles, Supergiant Games brings out Pyre this year. You are the Reader, you’re travelling with a group of exiles taking part in these “rites” to seek your freedom and return to the commonwealth. mixing parts of an adventure, an RPG and a fucking sports game of all things, these systems and mechanics are all solidly blended together in superb fashion. The story is also one to follow as well, dealing with redemption, rebellion and even death, this is a tale in which character’s mature over time, developing into whichever way you choose throughout the game. A fabulous indie game developed by a stellar indie developer, pick this up as soon as possible.
6) South Park: The Fractured But Whole (PS4/XO/WIN) -
Admittedly, I was not expecting much from this sequel, considering how great Stick of Truth was. But Whole is a fantastic follow up and quite possibly the best licensed game that I can really think of. You follow the story of the kids, Eric and co, as they decide to play Superheroes, hoping to find a lost kitty. In classic South Park style, everyone is not safe, everything WILL be mocked and made fun of, even the “Difficulty” slider is not spared from the same bout of vicious shit flinging. If you’re familiar with South Park, or at least the previous game and it’s brand of humour, then you’ll have a great time with this one, though if you don’t particularly enjoy South Park? You may want to avoid this title. Recommended for those who love offensive humour and South Park. 5) Assassin’s Creed: Origins(PS4/WIN/XO) -
Well it seems taking a year off, retooling and rebuilding the franchise has helped GREATLY with AC:O. Ubisoft are not the greatest of developers/publishers, but I commend them for actually crafting an AC experience that is on par, if not BETTER than AC2. You follow the story of Bayek, a Medjai who’s seeking out individuals of an Order after they had killed his son. While gameplay still has those “creed-isms” Such as stealth and assassinating, the combat, ranged and melee have both been redefined from the ground up for mostly better. While it has a rocky beginning, the story for the most part is damn great, with some really impactful moments here and there, the dynamic between Bayek and his wife ground themselves in a relatable way, giving the series another “good” protagonist in a sea of “bad” ones. If you’re a fan of the series, be wary of the changes to combat, but for the most part you will love it. Buy it to see how an open world is done right. 4) Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon(3DS) -
Sun and Moon are great pokemon titles and even good games in their own right, but their “updated” iterations make a good game fantastic. Sure, it’s really a remake, but the added stuff is enough to give a second journey through Alola. More pokes to capture, wider selection of wild pokes in the earlier game, new forms and even new pokes add a much meatier experience on the gameplay side of it whilst the story is vastly improved on with added scenes and characters, giving the UBs more importance helps to make their inclusion not so last minute. While it may be harder to recommend to a passing fan, it’s definitely worth picking up if you’re a pokefan through and through. 3) Injustice 2(PS4/WIN/XO) -
I loved the original Injustice, even its mishaps, heck Mortal Kombat X was one of my GoTYs for 2015, and I still adore that game/series now. Injustice 2 takes a hard long look at it’s predecessor, looks at its shortcomings and decides to get rid of them, for better or for worse. IJ2 is a vast improvement by definition, more varied selection of fighters to choose from, a better written story plus a Villain that will make you go “Holy shit that’s dope” trust me on that. The game picks up from the last title; Batman is now running things after Dictator Chairman Supes is now put in a cell of kryptonite, whilst Supergirl wants to go rescue her cousin, Earth is in peril by the invading Brainiac, a Krypton Super-Computer who wants to collect all knowledge. The gameplay takes some elements from MKX and even improves upon them, especially the added loot system, giving you that chance to customise how your favourite DC Fighter(or Hellboy/MK/TMNT Fighters, yes even Hellboy and the Ninja Turtles are in this, take that MVC:I!). Varied roster, solid gameplay and a story that doesn’t have any right being as good as it is, a must buy for Fighting Game and DC Comics enthusiasts. 2) Persona 5(PS4) -
The Persona franchise is one of those JRPG franchises that you either love or hate, I love it if you haven’t read my review on Persona 5. The fifth(Main line, that is) in the super popular gem that is Persona is a fantastic, well written piece of JRPG goodness with music that will blow your socks off, and a story that’s goofy, hilarious yet serious, dramatic and engrossing all packed together neatly. The gameplay while standard Turn Based affair is so solid and fun and with a surprising amount of choice, since you can potentially recruit enemy personas to your team. Each character grows and develops throughout the story, with tragedy and hope mixed in to give you a sorta mix of Persona 3 dark and Persona 4 lightheartedness, and that’s a good thing. Quite possibly my favourite JRPG of this by a huge, wide and long road between the other stuff. Recommend whether you’re new or a veteran to this series, god damn play this game now! Honourable Mentions: In no particular order, here’s a few honourable titles that I loved but haven’t included in my main top ten. Tekken 7, Yakuza Kiwami, Battlechasers: Nightwar, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, Evil Within 2, Middle Earth: Shadow of War, Gravity Rush 2, Horizon Zero Dawn. 1) NieR: Automata -
This game...this game is why I love games, stories and music, all in one. A fantastic experience from start to finish, a rollercoaster of emotions whilst using gameplay in conjunction with narration and to break the fourth wall on multiple occasions. You play as 2B and 9S, androids that are fighting the Machine menace to save the earth for humanity, by destroying them to pieces and dodging and moving through bullet hell like segments and even Shmup segments too. Seems standard affair right? Well the story really _really_ slowly reveals itself, giving even development to the bosses and enemies you face, no major character here is one note, at all. Platinum Games managed to get one thing they could never quite master right; an engaging, dramatic and heartfelt story/narration. Execution is far from perfect, but this game is so near perfect it deserves to be played by everyone. The music? There’s a few refrains and already established tracks from the previous game, but why fix something if it ain’t broken right? The music is heartfelt and really emotionally heavy. Yoko Taro is truly the Madman of Video Games. But his mad genius is executed for the most part, really great. Pick this game up if you desire something memorable, meaningful and fantastic. So there’s my list, obviously this is my opinion, you may think differently, or think the same way, it’s fine, everyone’s got an opinion, but this is MY list, so don’t hate because a game I like that you don’t like is here, it’s kinda pathetic. Hopefully 2018 brings even more diamonds.

July-August 1948. Long before Supergirl donned her controversial headband, stories set on Krypton had regularly shown Kryptonian men wearing headbands. The above panel from SUPERMAN #53 is possibly the earliest example, at least in the comic books. Not all Kryptonian men wore headbands, but many did, including Superman's father, Jor-El. In 1973, an installment of the "Fabulous World of Krypton" backup strip finally offered an explanation of this unusual custom. This story, by Elliot S! Maggin and Dave Cockrum, is also one of the most distinctly Jewish-coded stories in the Superman canon. Let's take a look under the cut …
There had been flashbacks and time travel stories set on Krypton going back to the earliest Superman adventures, but "The Fabulous World of Krypton" strip first appeared in SUPERMAN #233 back in 1971. These backup strips, generally running between five and seven pages, ran fairly regularly through the early 1980s; the last was in 1982. While many were narrated by Superman, who often appeared at the beginning and end to provide a framing sequence, this one, from SUPERMAN #264, is noteworthy in that neither Superman nor Supergirl is even mentioned, save in the logo:
Tumblr media
This story is set on Argo City, home of Supergirl. Although Argo City survived Krypton's destruction (in fact, in pre-Crisis history, Supergirl wasn't born until more than 15 years after Krypton exploded), the red sky in the first panel indicates that this story takes place beforehand. Nim-Ed and his unnamed mother were created for this story and never mentioned again; they're just ordinary Argonians with no particular relationship to any of the major Superman characters.
A noteworthy point here is that while Nim-Ed is shown to be on his way to school, the following account is a story related to him by his mother at home — it's a folk tradition, not an academic history, although since Nim-Ed obviously knows at least part of the story (and his mother implies that he should already know the rest), we can probably assume it's part of Kryptonian school curricula.
Tumblr media
Exactly when this story is supposed to have taken place is vague. The pre-Crisis history of Kryptonian civilization spanned almost 10,000 Kryptonian years (over 14,000 Earth years); we only get snippets of it, establishing any kind of sequence of events is difficult, and it's not always clear how literally some of these stories should be taken. (For instance, an earlier installment indicates that all Kryptonians can trace their lineage back to two stranded space travelers named "Kryp" and "Tonn"!) However, if you've ever been to a Passover seder or watched THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, it's hard to miss the parallels here. ("When Krypton was [space] Egypt land …")
An intriguing detail is that we're shown that headbands were already worn prior to these events for a different cultural purpose: as part of marriage ceremonies. The origin of that custom is left to the imagination, but it obviously suggests a longer history of which this is only part. (One segment of THE KRYPTON CHRONICLES #3, published eight years after this story, indicates that the Kryptonian marriage ceremonies of an even earlier era involved bracelets representing Krypton's two original moons, which implies that the marital headbands may have been an evolution of that older custom.)
Note also the presence of the priest, which is relatively unusual: Pre-Crisis Superman stories were generally very cagey about discussing Kryptonian religious practice, although other stories indicate that earlier polytheistic traditions were eventually subsumed by a monotheistic system of belief based around Rao, previously a sun god whose name remained Kryptonians' name for their red sun. Where this priest and his ankh symbols fit into that progression is anyone's guess.
Note also that neither Rik-Ar nor Jani is any kind of warrior; Rik-Ar is a healer and Jani is a teacher.
Tumblr media
This bit of business with the fake plague doesn't make a great deal of sense, except to illustrate that Pharaoh, er, Taka-Ne, is a cruel tyrant who doesn't believe in sick days. However, many of these stories revolve around the characters contriving some kind of clever invention, and it's conceivable that editor Julius Schwartz insisted on it here. Also, Exodus involves 10 plagues, so perhaps Maggin figured a story that evoked the Exodus ought to have at least one.
Tumblr media
The guards' reaction to the headbands is nonsensical: The guards saw the rashes themselves and were frightened of them, so why would they assume the plague was psychosomatic? Of course the point is that Taka-Ne doesn't really care so long as it doesn't trouble his slave labor force, but it's an odd digression.
Another point of note: ALL of the slaves are wearing the headbands, not only the men.
Tumblr media
Here we segue from Exodus to Spartacus, as the slave laborers take their liberation into their own hands. For a Superman story of this time, this is unexpectedly violent, and it's a little surprising that all the strangulation passed editorial muster — comic book editorial standards of the time, not to mention the Comics Code, tended to frown on types of violence that readers might readily imitate, and this would seem to qualify.
Tumblr media
Faced with the threat of imminent bloody retribution, Taka-Ne doesn't harden his heart, but seeks instead to cut a deal. The narrative captions would seem to emphasize that there's a lot of lethal violence taking place — not surprising in context, but unusual for a Superman story in 1973. Note that we see women as well as men attacking and presumably killing Taka-Ne's guards.
Tumblr media
Note again that in the celebratory scenes, women as well as men are wearing headbands, just as we previously saw women using their headbands as weapons. However, Nim-Ed's mother then describes the headband as "the symbol of a free man on Krypton." The story she's just described took place thousands of years earlier, so the chauvinism of this tradition's modern practice presumably evolved in the interim. Combined with the fact that the headbands previously had a quite different ceremonial significance, it emphasizes that Kryptonian culture is not static, with such signifiers taking on distinct meanings at different times. In that light, Supergirl's later decision to adopt the headband herself makes perfect sense, representing both the liberalization of a current cultural practice (which is how she describes it in SUPERGIRL #17) and a hearkening back to the folkloric tradition from which it emerged.
This story doesn't delineate any specific cultural or tribal divide between Rik-Ar's people and Taka-Ne's, although it's clearly implied that the overthrow of Taka-Ne occupies a similar cultural space for modern Kryptonians as the story of the Exodus does for Jews and Christians. In that regard, it's also noteworthy that this is presented as the story of a secular liberation; it may also hold religious significance that's not mentioned here, but this is a cultural tradition rather than a specifically spiritual one. (The Adam Strange story in MYSTERY IN SPACE #76, also edited by Julius Schwartz, though written by Gardner Fox, presents a comparable historical liberation as part of the story of the foundation of Ranagar City, the home of Adam's girlfriend and later wife Alanna.)
Finally, the actual use of headbands among modern Kryptonians seems at least broadly analogous to the practice of wearing kippot (yarmulkes). Nim-Ed's mother's remark about wearing headbands to dress up might suggest that the headband is more comparable to a necktie, but that isn't really borne out by the stories in which the headbands appear, which show some Kryptonian men wearing headbands even in casual surroundings and others going un-headbanded in quite formal situations. Consider for example Jor-El's fateful meeting with Krypton's ruling council in SUPERMAN #53:
Tumblr media
These are Krypton's highest officials in an official proceeding, and their garb otherwise seems quite dressy, but only Jor-El has a headband, so the choice to go headbanded seems dictated by something other than just the formality of the occasion. There's no specific indication that it's a matter of religious expression, but that would explain most of the variations in practice.
(It should be said, however, that headbands appear much more commonly in Bronze Age depictions of Kryptonian culture — particularly in stories published after "The Headband Warriors of Krypton!" — than in stories published in the 1950s or 1960s, and later depictions of the same events will sometimes show characters wearing headbands who were not in previous versions. However, there are still characters who rarely if ever wear one, including Superman himself.)

Superman Fanfic Descriptions
Informative: Superman has a lot on his hands, planning a future with Lois, keeping Metropolis safe, and leading the Justice League... but everything will change when Lex unleashes his latest weapon. Superman will have to make the hardest decision he has ever made to either save his future...or save the world.
Apologetic: Superman saves the world, again. Sorry that this description sucks :( Please let me know how I can fix it. Theres so many mistakes. I don't have a beta reeder...
Attention Leech: My latest Superman fic! Please leave me some comments! Let me know if you like it. Not sure if I will finish it, but comments might help! Comments welcome! WOO!
Honesty: Pure Superman smut. One chapter. No plot. Enjoy.
Trap: Superman and Lois have been together a long time. Follow their journey through marital bliss to one another and all their ups and downs. (Superman/Batman ending)
Imagines: Imagine there is no Lois Lane, but you are the hot shot reporter at the Daily Planet and you're basically Lois and Superman has the hots for only you.
Mary Sue: Korestella Galatica is impervious to everything, even kyptonite, and she's stronger than Superman, and smarter than Batman, and looks better in a corset than Wonderwoman. Watch as the justice league fawns and becomes uber protective of this precious cupcake, only for her to make the ultimate sacrifice for Superboy, her secret lover. So sad.
Too much work: My companion piece to "Krypton's Deep Water" but before "Earth's Blinding Sun". Read "Infinite Stars" for backstory, which is a prequel to UserSupes69's fabulous introspective piece about Clark's first day at the Daily Planet (but before he joins Justice League) entitled "Only Glasses."

Virgin: Superman fic with Wonderwoman/Superman romance! It's my first fic, so please be gentle... teehee
Jerry Springers: Superman is carrying Batman's baby and Lois has died! But now Lex is back and will stop at nothing to get Superman back! But the SuperBat baby is coming!!!!
F*cked up imagines: Imagine that instead of a penis, Superman has an alien hybrid stamen flower genitalia. How would Lois deal? Inspired by a drunken skype session with my bestie...

This month it was my turn to choose the theme for the Fab40s style challenge. And for some strange reason, I chose superhero inspired outfits! I know, crazy right? What on earth was I thinking? Clearly my mind wasn’t on earth at the time – it must’ve been on Planet Krypton or something lol!
All month, I struggled to come up with a superhero inspired outfit to wear today. All I knew was that I wanted to wear this necklace (below) AND I wanted to do the superhero pose (above) LOL. Did you know that standing like a superhero is supposed to boost your confidence? Google it and read the findings. It’s really quite fascinating.
I inherited the necklace from hubby’s late stepmother. Isn’t it beautiful? I’ve always thought it had a bit of a Wonder Woman vibe to it, so it seemed like the obvious choice for our crazy theme. So my superhero inspired outfit started with this. Like Jennie (below), I thought about wearing a superhero tee but I couldn’t find one I really liked in the shops. Stradivarius has some at the moment but they’re super wide and I prefer a fitted tee.
Superhero inspired red dress
My 12-year-old neighbour offered to lend me her wonder woman tee-shirt lol. But in the end, I decided on this gorgeous asymmetric red dress which I bought from eBay a couple of months ago. I’d been wanting a red dress for so long but hadn’t found the one. Until this. I just adore it. I love the neckline and the asymmetric hem at the back. Actually, it was the hemline that reminded me of superheroes in the first place. I could totally imagine a sexy Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) wearing it, can’t you?
As for the boots, I ended up opting for my Massimo Dutti tan ones. I wouldn’t normally team such a summery dress with knee highs but I actually love the look, and I reckon it gives it more of a superhero inspired touch. The Primark tan belt pulled it all together and then, for fun, I added the blue scarf (also from Primark a few years ago – I have it in red too) which works beautifully for a superhero inspired cape LOL.
Hints of blue

#gallery-0-14 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-14 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 100%; } #gallery-0-14 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-14 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Speaking of blue, I wanted to add a little bit more of it to my outfit, so I went full-on blue eye make-up as well as touches of blue nail polish. I simply adore blue mascara. I think it makes everyone’s eyes pop. If you haven’t tried it, you really should. Here are a few pics to show you the effect it has…(please excuse the bad hair – it was very windy!)
#gallery-0-15 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-15 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-15 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-15 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Oh, the ring. I almost forgot to mention the ring. This was a gift from my fabulous mother-in-law last year. The moment she gave it to me, I couldn’t help but think of superheroes.
So, there you have it. My superhero inspired outfit that actually turned out pretty cool! It’s definitely something I can see myself wearing out to a party or a dinner. But on this occasion, the denim jacket was needed. That wind was super chilly! Luckily you can’t see the goosebumps on my skin 😉
But that’s enough about my outfit, let’s see how the other gals styled their very own superhero inspired looks…
Shelbee from Shelbee on the Edge
As always, Shelbee pulled out all the stops for her outfit and has given us something super fun and sexy. Inspired by Zatanna Zatara from DC Comics circa 1964 whose super power is her magic. Shelbee says that she very often feels quite magical herself so this seemed like the perfect inspiration, and I, for one, LOVE IT! I just love how brave she is and this outfit just proves that. Shelbee, you seriously rock!
Outfit Details:
Jacket: c/o Rosegal
Shirt: Old Navy
Corset: Adore Me
Boots: Just Fab
Stockings and Gloves: Target
Hat: Kohl’s
Earrings: Claire’s
Neckerchief and Bikini Bottom: So old I cannot remember
Jennie from A Pocketful of Polka Dots
Jennie went for a fun casual look this month with a fabulous Superman tank top that she already had. If I’d have had a tee like this, I would have totally gone down the very same route. She looks super fab and super fun! Outfit Details: Superman Tank – Old Striped Top – Old Navy Jeans – Lee Shoes – Converse All Stars Glasses – c/o Firmoo Earrings – NY&Co.  Bracelet – c/o Wind Passion
Daenel from Living Outside the Stacks
Daenel’s superhero is The Crimson Avenger, a character you may know from the late 1930’s. I absolutely love that she decided to imitate him in honor of her dad who was a big comic book fan. How totally awesome is that? Daenel looks absolutely incredible in that suit, right? LOVE it!!
Outfit Details: Suit and White Shirt: Target
Tie: Husband’s Closet
Shoes: Evine.com
Mary from Curly Birdie Chirps
Mary – COMING SOON!
Sheela from Sheela Writes
Unfortunately, our beautiful blogging BFF Sheela was unable to join us this month but hopefully she’ll be back in time for our next theme (whatever that might be) in May! But do go and visit her blog, she always posts the most glorious content!
And our fabulous guest this month, Andrea from Living on Cloud Nine
#gallery-0-16 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-16 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-16 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-16 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
I simply adore Andrea’s take on the superhero challenge. I mean, isn’t this THE most perfect caped jacket you’ve ever seen? It’s utterly gorgeous, just like Andrea herself, who always manages to look so beautifully put together. She’s one of my favourite blogging superheroes! Outfit Details: Cape Blazer: SheIn Leggings: Vera Wang Sock Booties: Steve Madden Earrings: Sugarfix by Baublebar
And there you have it. How the Fab40s styled ‘Superheroes’. Now it’s your turn? How would you style this super fun challenge?
