Hello, I prepared some statistics to give you a short overview of Ghost's amazingly successful 2022. It is based on data I collected between 22/12/2021 and 22/12/2022.

The big Ghost event of 2022 was of course the release of the band's fifth album, IMPERA.

Since March 11, it has sold nearly 500,000 copies, won the American Music Award for Favorite Rock Album and received a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance ('Call Me Little Sunshine').

Within the first week of its release, the album reached #2 on the Billboard 200 (ranking the 200 most popular music albums and EPs in the United States) and ranked in the top 20 best-selling albums in 19 countries across the world:

#1 in Sweden, Austria, Germany, Finland, Spain

#2 in US, UK, Belgium, Norway, Netherlands

#3 in Australia, Canada

#5 in Switzerland, Ireland, France

#7 in Poland

#8 in Hungary

#12 in Denmark, Portugal

#20 in Italy

IMPERA is Ghost’s best charting album to date.

On YouTube, the band amassed a staggering 260 million views. 840,000 people subscribed to the channel this year, which makes up 42% of all current subscribers.

On Spotify, the band amassed 1,285,625 new followers. That’s around 61% of all followers since the band appeared on the platform.

It goes without saying that the viral success of Mary On A Cross on TikTok brought in a lot of new fans this year, but the magnitude of it becomes even more astonishing if you look at numbers.

On this graph, I marked a few events that resulted in a noticeable spike in the number of monthly listeners on Spotify, including the approximate time when MOAC began to gain traction on TikTok. As you can see, nothing, not even the release of a new album, gave the band as much attention as the 3-year old song suddenly raising in popularity on one single platform.

Between end of July and beginning of October, the number of monthly listeners on Spotify skyrocketed from 2.5 million to 12 million. This is a 380% increase.

Although the numbers have been in decline since then, it appears that for the past month they have stayed at a steady 9 million. As of today (Dec 22, 2022) the exact number is 9,110,996. Exactly a year ago (Dec 22, 2021) the number was 1,999,951. A hefty 355% increase in only a year.

Some other milestones and fun facts:

On June 7, Cirice, Dance Macabre, and Square Hammer were all certified Gold by the RIAA for sales of 500,000 units in the USA. Following the viral success, Mary On A Cross was also certified Gold on November 20.

The band's most liked post on Instagram this year was a video of Papa throwing the first pitch at the White Sox game (273,241 likes).

The episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live where Ghost performed Call Me Little Sunshine was watched by around 1.3 million people.

In September, Ghost reached over 12 million monthly listeners on Spotify and was the 450th most streamed artist globally - that's 450 out of over 11 million!

As of today with over 1.6 billion accumulated streams Ghost is one of the 1,000 most successful artists on the platform of all time (currently #808).

On September 11, Mary On A Cross peaked at #1 in the Viral Hits chart on Spotify in 54 countries across the world.

It was also the highest charting Swedish song on the platform in 2022, peaking globally at #31.

At this point I think it’s safe to declare that Ghost’s global success reached unprecedent heights this year and even allowed them to officially join the ranks of mainstream artists. With all of the above, 70 completed shows this year and many more to come in 2023, and with media of the likes of The Wall Street Journal proclaiming Ghost “the next generation of arena stars,” it looks like that the band is well on the way to become one of the biggest rock acts of this century. Not bad for a side project started by one Swede in his bedroom somewhere in Linköping. 

Let us hope 2023 will be as devilishly good!

There is a lot of moments to sift through to pick the best, despite being private neither are shy to share photos and videos of the other to give us all the content we crave. So, here are our picks:

10. Matching Tattoos Are Cool, But This Couple Wears Matching Jewelry

Is unofficial and absolute an assumption. But fans couldn't help but notice the white gold sinet rings worn by the couple. Or the fact that Jack has been wearing an emerald tennis bracelet on his left wrist, emeralds being Y/n's birthday stone. Most obvious maybe is the 'J' chain spotted around Y/n's neck in early March.

9. Those Red Carpets Looks…

And let's not forget the matching outfits Harlow and Y/l/n have been serving us since early 2022, with one half of the couple in the film industry and the other half in the music industry, this couple had a full award season, and we're not complaining. The All-Black Givenchy outfit at the Grammys? Blue Dior at the Academy Awards?

8. Y/N ‘Cheerleader’ Outfit At NBA All Star Game Rooting For 'Her Man'

Y/n has accomplished a feat few women could... and it was taking the male attention away from Megan Fox. In a vintage white Versace look worn on the runway by Kate Moss in 1995, the sweetest detail of the look may be the silk ribbon the actress wore in her ponytail with ‘Harlow’ written on it. The rapper dedicated his 4 pointer to his girl, which, come on, it's sweet. Harlow may have lost the game, but you wouldn't tell from the smile he wore when he left the stadium with his girlfriend in his arms.

Usually when it comes to famous couples we never know exactly how that first look happened… but not when it comes to internet’s boyfriend Jack-I-have-never-been-in-love-Harlow and America's sweetheart Y/n Y/l/n. This uncomplicated couple met for the first time at the 2021 Met Gala, right on the red carpet, the two were guests to the designer Tommy Hilfiger, and weren't shy about posing together for the cameras giving us all Cinderella and Prince Charming vibes. Rumors have it that the couple spent the evening by each other side, never parting for long, with comedian Pete Davidson, a mutual friend of the couple, joking once that Jack followed Y/n around the whole night like a puppy in love. It comes to no surprise that the two ended up at the same after party. We found out she was 'told' by the rapper that she was now his girlfriend "I felt used, she was getting all the benefits of a relationship and going around saying she wasn't my girlfriend, that hurt," Jack joked making his girlfriend blush. And we are dying…Jack said in a radio interview that the topic of children came up at the very beginning of their relationship, and surprisingly he was the one who came up with the subject, “It was one of the first things I thought of when we first met, Y/n's smile It's beautiful, but when she's truly happy her smile looks like a kid's smile on a Christmas morning, and I remember PD said something, and she gave this smile, and the first thing that came to my mind was: Damn, I want my children to have that smile. I did a short interview for an alumni spotlight on the CCA website. You can click through but I'll also just copy my answers below the cut.

Maia Kobabe (e/em/eir) is a nonbinary/queer/trans author and illustrator, a voracious reader, a k-pop fan, and a daydreamer. You can learn an astonishing number of intimate details about em in Gender Queer: A Memoir and in eir other short comics, published by The New Yorker, The Nib, The Washington Post and in many print anthologies. Gender Queer won a Stonewall Honor and an Alex Award from the American Library Association in 2020. It was also the most challenged book in the United States in 2021 and 2022.

Maia shares more about eir life as a full-time artist and activist, fighting to protect diverse literature and the freedom to access information.

1. What is your current practice/business?

I am a full time cartoonist. My job consists of days working at home writing and drawing mixed with days speaking out against book banning and censorship, and in support of the freedom to read, the freedom to teach, and the freedom to access information. I spend a lot of time talking with other authors, teachers, and librarians about protecting diverse and queer books from the current wave of conservative attacks. The first piece I drew for the comics journalism site The Nib was about the rise of fascism in the United States; my later writing about queer, trans, and nonbinary identities has led me into consistently political territory.

2. Why did you choose CCA?

I chose CCA because I was looking for a MFA Comics program, of which there are very few, and I wanted to stay in the Bay Area. Because I'm a local, I was able to meet the majority of the MFA Comics faculty before I applied and felt immediately welcomed into their community. The fact that a majority of my professors for the first year of the program were queer was a huge draw as well.

3. If you could share one piece of advice with current or future students, what would it be?

Every single person has a story only they could tell. No matter what media you are working in, do your best to tell the story which is uniquely yours. If you aren't ready to tell it yet, just keep making art until the time to share that story arrives. No time spent creating is ever wasted.

4. What's your secret to staying inspired and creative?

I realized fairly early in life that my very favorite way to spend the day was drawing while listening to music, a podcast, or an audiobook. I like making things! I would rather be making things than doing almost anything else. I created a life in which I can spend a lot of time creating things and even if I don't particularly know what I am making, I am happy.

5. What do you have coming up?

My second book, Breathe: Journeys to Healthy Binding, written with Dr Sarah Pietzmeier, is coming out in May 2024 from Dutton. It's a nonfiction comic about chest binding as an aspect of trans healthcare. I'm currently drawing my third book, Saachi's Stories, written with Lucky Srikumar; it's due out from Scholastic Graphix in 2026. I am also working on adapting Gender Queer: A Memoir into an audiobook.

Top 10 Sus Jikook Moments

There are way too many moments to possibly list, but my friend and I thought it would be fun to compile a list of sus jikook moments. 

10. 2021 Jimin Birthday Live

Cute and flustered Jimin calling Jungkook? Jungkook coming immediately to spend time with his boyfriend? Hobi calling out why Jimin was in Jungkook’s studio? So many questions.

9. 2015 Award Show Back Hug

Let’s be real, there are plenty of questionable back hug moments, but this one is particularly interesting. The fact that it was so early in their relationship. The fact that it took place at a public award show. The way Jungkook held onto Jimin and how they swayed together. The questionable looks from the other members. I see you jikook, I see you.

Honorable back hug mention is the BE live and the way Jungkook caged Jimin for an incredibly long time with their matching hair. Exuding boyfriend energy to the max.

8. Cute Feet During PJ Run

Honestly, this is just one of my favorite moments that makes me feel giddy. How comfortable they are resting on one another. The way they’re playing with their feet. Jimin’s surprised laugh when Jungkook plays along. And let’s not forget the special photo of Jungkook spooning Jimin.

7. “Let me give you a hug” Dance Practice

Am I the only one who has watched this clip over and over? We get to see how even during work they are always having fun together. But how can we not swoon over Jungkook’s smitten face as Jimin fails to lift him, and the way his smile grows brighter when he lifts Jimin like it’s nothing. Jimin tries to lift him one more time, but fails and instead hugs Jungkook and nuzzles into his neck ever so slightly. 

6. Jungkook’s Snow Gift

We should all know this moment. Bon Voyage season 4 in New Zealand. This is the beginning of Jungkook really doing whatever the hell he wants, and he disappears one morning to go on a mountain hike and returns with a chunk of snow, much to everyone’s confusion. He specifically waits for Jimin to wake up and excitedly shows and gives it to him. Jimin is, understandably confused, but we all understand the intent.

5. Malta Room Sharing

I’ll be honest, finding out about this speculation was what thrust me into the world of jikook. (It doesn’t seem to exist anymore, but I had wandered across an analysis video a few years ago). Obviously, we don’t know anything for sure, but there are enough clues here, as well as in many other occasions, that make it possible jikook were room sharing.

4. Osaka Live

Similar vibe to number 5, but cranked up to 100. I don’t need to go in depth into this, because we all know, but my two cents is that Jimin was in that room. (Just as he hid in Jungkook’s room during the 2019 NJ live). What were they doing in a dark hotel room with sensual music playing? Eating bread, of course.

2. MAMA 2018

What I would give to hear everything the man sitting next to them heard. Something was truly in the air that day. They were all over each other and incredibly lovey dovey. While we can’t know for sure what they actually said to each other, the look in Jungkook’s eyes speaks volumes.

1. Rose Bowl

Are we surprised this is my number 1? There are so many moments that exist, but all jikookers come back to this one. There are so many questions about why. Why nibble the ear? Why confess his love? Why give a kiss? (We all know why). But the emotions are palpable, as they would be at the end of a high intensity concert. Jimin was emotional, and Jungkook went to console Jimin, as we know he usually does. Hanging onto Jimin’s back isn’t out of the ordinary, but Jungkook took it a step further. And put Jimin’s ear in his mouth. My assumption is that he was saying something, but ultimately decided actions would speak louder than words. To be clear, he says something first, pulls back, and then goes back in, catches Jimin’s ear, and then delivers a clear kiss to Jimin’s head. There’s no mistaking it. Jungkook was taking care of his baby. 

Honorable Mentions:

Takes place during the events of the American Music Awards 2021

A matter of minutes, a bottle of particularly alcoholic champagne and an euphoric performance were enough to bring Chaeri sitting on one of Jungkook's legs with the claim of being the first to taste his lips after the piercing addition. 

His hands laid somewhere between her hip and back, sending shivers through the too-thin fabric of the dress she was wearing.

"You want me to kiss you"

"Yes"

Not even a hint of hesitation in her voice. The girl had wanted no more since the day he walked in front of her with the silver ring decorating his lips.

"Take it yourself"

It had always been their habit, or rather an intimate game, to tease each other and enjoy whoever could get the other to give in first to the temptations offered. She couldn't keep count of how many times she'd heard him say those three words. When they were in a relationship she gave him a hard time way more often than Jungkook liked to admit. For the past two years, however, such interactions between them became so rare that she couldn't hold on as long as she wanted. That man would melt her and rearrange her at his will.

All she had to do was lean over just enough to place her lips on Jungkook's and feel him gasp, as if he was taking his first breath of air since the moment she sat on him.

Chaeri's eyes were closed to isolate any sense other than that feeling.

Her hands were immediately on either side of the boy's neck as they both parted their lips to satisfy their appetite for the other.

The piercing was a sweet and exciting addition to which Chaeri paid special attention. She bit, pulled and licked his lips. For that her mind was lighter than for all the alcohol she had drunk since the awards evening had ended.

Jungkook helped her settle better on him. He held her suspended long enough for Chaeri to spread her legs and position them on either side of his thighs. She was fully seated on him. A moan of pleasure escaped from both of their throats as their privates met in that position.

Jungkook's fingers began to travel down her body, tracing imaginary lines from her ankles up to her thighs, to the edge of her dress.

Chaeri pulled away from his lips to enjoy the sight of his touch

Oh, that was her favourite form of seduction: Confident words. And the knowledge that they were not just words but facts that, of course, she remembered perfectly.

She stole another kiss from him, quickly. And another. And another. She could have consumed her lips and still wouldn't have had enough.

Jungkook's touch went up her dress, her butt, her back, all the way to the front, running his chilly fingertips over her breasts, which made her gasp instantly.

Underneath she had no top or bra, just extremely thin boob tape.

She bit her lips to keep from moaning at such a light touch.

"Oh, sensitive there, aren't we?" 

Her nipples became turgid and evident through the cloth. She could feel Jungkook's pants become even tighter underneath her and her panties even wetter

At first his lips were gentle, sliding up the length of her skin, leaving small kisses along the way. When he began to bite, however, all the girl's remaining composure faded. She gripped his shoulders, digging her nails into his skin. He bit and sucked on one particular spot where in the past had left numerous marks. Those almost spoken words were enough for her to regain her self-control. She was quick to cover his mouth with her hand. No, she did not want to hear him say those words

"Don't say that. Don't say it or I won't be able to pretend that none of this ever happened tomorrow. That everything we were never happened."

The air full of electricity and sexual desire faded in seconds, all was followed by minutes of silence. Their gazes were glued to each other, full of comprehension, melancholy and regret. The boy gently kissed the inside of her hand, permission to break free from the imposed silence. Chaeri released his mouth and calmly got to her feet again, he immediately after her. One step from each other.

"Let's put you back in shape and go where the others are."

Chaeri nodded and did not retreat when he gently helped her pull up the sleeves and corset of her dress. They could both see their reflection in the long mirrored wall at the back of the room, where only a few hours earlier they had spent their time preparing for the performance.

She was at least decent. But certainly the shape of the still turgid nipples poking out of the fabric and the obvious hickey on her neck left little to the imagination. She kept looking at herself in the mirror as she pondered how to solve both problems when Jungkook slid the jacket off his body and laid it on her shoulders "Cover yourself with this. For your neck, if you allow me to.." He left the sentence pending as he pulled from her hair the silk ribbon that had held it in a half-tied hairstyle until that moment. He wanted to put it around her neck as if it were a chocker, an accessory worn on purpose. He stood behind her as he knotted it. "Thank you." He gave her a smile, completely different from the ones he shown her moments before.

When he was done helping her, he took a step back.

"Maybe I'd better go out first, you can join us in a few minutes."

Jungkook nodded, shoving his hands into his pockets. Nervous, uncomfortable. That situation had been going on for too long and was getting hard for both of them. Chaeri walked towards the door determined to join the members who chose to entertain themselves with international celebrities at that event. She rather stayed with Jungkook, of course.

"Call me a fool-"

The boy's voice stopped her just before she crossed the door

"-but I still believe that one day we will be free to love each other"

Chaeri did not turn to look at him but smiled anyway. She would have liked to believe it too.

She left the room and the boy alone.

Not long afterwards, Chaeri's solo 'Silver lips' was uploaded to all digital platforms, causing much success and a storm among fans especially for its lyrics

[Exclusive] DAY6 is coming together as a whole at the end of the year…Concert for the first time in 4 years

[Reporter Hwang Hyejin on the news] Band DAY6 (DAY6) will unite as a whole at the end of the year. According to news reports, DAY6 will hold a solo concert at Hwajeong Gymnasium in Seoul at the end of December. This performance is meaningful in that it is the first musical performance that all members announce as a team after ending their 'military period' (military + gap period). Leader, vocalist and guitarist Sungjin was discharged from active duty in the army in September last year, and vocalist and bassist Young K, who became the first idol singer to become a KATUSA soldier, finished his military service in April of this year. Drummer Dowoon was discharged from the army in July, and Wonpil, the first idol singer to enlist in the navy, became a civilian on November 27. It has been four years since the concert in December 2019 that DAY6 met with fans My Day through a face-to-face group concert. As existing songs such as 'You Were Beautiful' and 'Time of Our Life' were re-examined in 'Military Baekgi', and the charts were resurrected, it is expected that a ticket war will break out as the firepower of new fans is added to existing fans. Through this performance, the members said, "Our story will continue." Let's meet again with a smile" and "I want to come back in a good way and play with My Day (DAY6's official fandom name) on the stage." In particular, Wonpil proved his special love for DAY6 My Day by volunteering in the Navy, which has about two months longer service days than the Army, and taking about a month off to quickly recover his musical sense. The fact that there are quite a few live stages that will be revealed for the first time in this performance also raises the expectations of prospective audiences. DAY6 was unable to present all the songs from their 6th mini album "The Book of Us: The Demon" (released in May 2020) and 7th mini album "The Book of Us: Negentropy - Chaos Swallowed Up in Love" (released in April 2021). DAY6, who debuted as JYP Entertainment's first band in September 2015, established themselves as 'Trust and Listen in DAY6' by making numerous self-composed songs such starting with 'Congratulations', followed by 'Letting Go,' 'You were Beautiful,' 'I like you,' 'days gone by,' 'Time of Our Life', 'Zombie', and 'Right Through Me'. In just four years since its debut, DAY6 has achieved achievements such as exceeding 100 live performances, holding two world tours, and winning the Best Band Performance Award at the 2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards. They signed a renewal contract last September, the 7th anniversary of their debut, and promised to write countless pages of the second act together. DAY6, who has confirmed the long-awaited group concert, will appear on KBS Cool FM's "DAY6's Kiss the Radio" at 10 p.m. on November 28th.

Eddie Redmayne On How His Emcee in Cabaret Is a Shape Shifter.

The Olivier and Oscar winner talked with Playbill about coming back to the stage, and whether he's coming to Broadway.

While a few fortunate Broadway theatregoers were able to catch the recent Olivier Award-winning revival of Cabaret, the majority of us are anxiously awaiting its Spring 2024 arrival on Broadway. And even more, we are anxiously awaiting the casting news to see if one, both, or neither of its Olivier-winning stars, Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckley, will come with it.

While we impatiently tap our feet as we wait to hear, we've at least had the cast recording to keep us company. Released in January 2023, the album features Redmayne as The Emcee and Buckley as Sally Bowles. 

Playbill got the chance to catch up with Redmayne recently to chat about his wild, weird performance and, basically, harass him about his 13 year (and counting) absence from the Broadway stage.

Redmayne made his Broadway debut in 2010 when the Donmar Warehouse production of John Logan's Red transferred from the West End. The two-hander starred Alfred Molina as artist Mark Rothko and Redmayne as his assistant. Redmayne earned an Olivier and a Tony for his performance. 

Redmayne says, only partly in jest, that one of the reasons he hasn't returned to Broadway is because Red was perfect. "It was one of the greatest experiences of my life—working with Fred Molina on a play that I loved, and with Michael Grandage," he says. "It went so well that I was like, 'I don't think I'm ever going to do a Broadway play ever again. It's never ever gonna go as well as that.'"

Following Red, he returned to the West End for another production with Grandage, a short run as the title role in Shakespeare's Richard II. Then his film career took off. His 2012 performance as Marius in the Les Misérables film set musical theatre hearts aflutter. Then in 2015, he was awarded an Oscar for his role as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything and garnered another nomination the following year for The Danish Girl.

He did not return to the stage until the 2021 West End revival of Kander and Ebb's Cabaret. The chance to create The Emcee anew was too good to pass up. "The abstract nature of the character—the fact that does the character even really exist? Is it a figment of the imagination? I mean, it's so ripe for interpretation," says Redmayne. "And the show is so beautifully constructed, but yet it allows for interpretation. That was the appeal."

The Emcee is so ripe for interpretation because the character only exists in the Kit Kat Club and not within narrative story of Cabaret. The diegetic Kit Kat Club numbers comment on the action of the plot—chanteuse Sally Bowles' relationship with English writer Cliff during the Nazi rise to power in Berlin—but the Kit Kat Club songs are not a part of the action. 

And this new immersive production takes that meta-theatricality to new heights—London's Playhouse Theatre has been transformed to look like a '40s Berlin nightclub, with performers interacting with he audience during the preshow. 

Redmayne's initial actor's instinct was to create a backstory for The Emcee, but in the end, his attempts simply were not supported by the text. So, he tried something else. "What was very liberating about playing this role was that I approached it, ultimately, in a very different way—which was throwing clay at a wall in big kind of broad gestures and then trying to refine it as it were," Redmayne explains. "Then, as we began to run the show, making sense of a psychology through it—working backwards, and working with the understanding that there's an abstraction to the character."

But Redmayne was excited about shaking his process up a bit. He'd only done film for the 10 years prior to Cabaret, and he was ready to dive into stage work again. In the months leading up to Cabaret rehearsals, he even enrolled in a training course at Lecoq (formally, L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq), a physical theatre school in Paris. "I was working with actors aged 18 to 60 from all over the world. It was huge improvisations, the whole thing was in French, and there were these two French doyennes of Lecoq's training going 'No!' and it was kind of brutal, but it was exactly what I needed," he says, laughing. "It took me out of my head. I felt so much more physically free to humiliate myself. By the time I came into the rehearsal room for Cabaret, the experience was one of release in some ways."

So with his newfound physical freedom, and the idea of The Emcee as an abstraction unclouded by a backstory, Redmayne was ready to create his character. The vocal performance is almost otherworldly. Redmayne explains the genesis of his sound: "There was this idea of a shapeshifter. That was something that [director] Rebecca [Frecknall] and Tom Scott, our production designer, talked about—that my version of The Emcee could puppeteer this group of Kit Kat dancers and conjure these characters. But, ultimately, when fascism arrives, he is able to get out absolutely fine. He can shape shift his way out of that situation. And I wanted vocally for that to translate as well."

Working with Musical Director Jennifer Whyte ("She had brilliant ideas," he adds), Redmayne created different voices and sounds for different songs. In "Tomorrow Belongs to Me," he sang live over his own recorded harmony lines. "So, in that, there was a delicate side. Then there was the raucous, quite nasal version of The Emcee in 'Willkommen.' And then, particularly within 'I Don't Care Much,' I wanted you to hear him move from one voice into the other within the same song. So he's sort of demonstrating to the audience the power he has in his passivity, just to keep changing the versions of himself," explains Redmayne, then quickly adding,"That sounds bloody pretentious." (Clearly Mr. Redmayne does not understand how hard we can nerd out about a vocal performance.)

Musical theatre is in Redmayne's blood, he says. His first job, after all, was playing a workhouse boy in a West End production of Oliver! And he was a choral scholar in his years at Cambridge. And returning to Cabaret after years in film was a particular joy for him. "I do think that music and singing jumps synapses into people's souls and you connect emotionally in a beautifully honest way," he says. 

But he's more proud of just being involved with this particular production. He's been back to see every new cast as they arrive in the West End. "Rebecca has created a version of the show that champions individuality," he says. "Getting to watch a production that you've been in, but in a completely different interpretation—having seen all of The Emcees and Sallys and seen the breadth and brilliance of their voices—I just feel proud to be a part of something that keeps living."

And, of course, we asked if he'll be coming to Broadway with Cabaret in the spring. Of course we did. "You know more about it than I do," said the shape shifter, easily getting out of that one.

The Rebecca Frecknall-directed production of the Tony-winning 1966 Broadway musical, currently running at London's Kit Kat Club (a.k.a. the renovated Playhouse Theatre), officially opened December 12, 2021. It currently stars Jake Shears as The Emcee and Rebecca Lucy Taylor as Sally Bowles. Mason Alexander Park and Maude Apatow just completed their three-month runs in the show. 

Cabaret is slated to arrive at the August Wilson Theatre this season. Dates and cast are to be announced.

When they were separated back in 2019/2020 their career were great and the fans were following them as individuals, don’t understand why fans are so worried. They will continue acting and hopefully will still be successful. They are both great actors.

Also the worry about Tom’s career is so dumb to me. Tom if he wants could take Ryan Reynolds path, he is extremely successful but is not looking for awards, He could go for an indie route too, Tom Cruise career is something he could emulate because he is great in action roles and can do comedy, drama & musicals. Tom could even be the host of a talk show, he is that talented and charismatic. The jokes about he is jobless and unemployed are stupid, He is the lead of 2 successful franchises, he has Fred with a great director and script writer and is now doing a play with a multiple awards director. He is a millionaire and he is just 27 years. Male actors can lead movies even in their 50’s 60’s, women careers are way shorter, sadly

Yea, I'm sure in the long run Tom (and also Z) would be fine in their careers even if they were to break up again.

I think though that we have to remember that TZ weren't dating each other publicly back in the 1.0 era. So we can't really compare the past to the present. They are WAY more open now with their relationship than they were prior to 2021. In fact, most people (aside from us shippers) didn't even know they were in a serious rlshp with each other back then.

So, them breaking up NOW would be way different from them quietly breaking up years ago.

Even when they broke up in 2019, some in the fandom were making false claims that Tom had "cheated" on Z.... Other fans took sides and hated on either Tom OR Zendaya for various reasons.... and this was when only us as shippers thought they had been in a relationship with each other.

I can't even imagine what it would be like if they broke up AGAIN with the whole world now knowing about their rlshp. That's why I don't really like it when an actor's love life becomes the main focus of his fans.

But like you said, celebrity couples break up all the time in Hollywood 🤷🏾‍♀️, and life goes on! So, no matter what happens, good OR bad (🙈), I know that Tom and Z are going to be okay. ☺️

a quick retrospective on sabrina's career 💭

hiya! some of you might have seen this video already but if not, i highly recommend it:

two pop culture commentators, Nicky and Coco talk about the slow rise of sabrina's career. they discuss how sabrina's gotten to where she is now, and why a "slow burn," is often times better than an overnight rise to fame.

i wanted to share this video as a jumping off point. i am so tired of certain people invalidating sabrina's career. i want to clear up some misconceptions and ignorant talking points that people make up regarding sabrina's career. more under the cut. ♥️

she is not an "industry plant."

industry plant definition: a pejorative used to describe musicians who ostensibly become popular through nepotism, inheritance, wealth, or their connections in the music industry rather than on their own merits.

list of bullshit haters say:

"sabrina is only famous because of the driver's license drama.."

personally, i cannot stand when people say this. it completely disregards the fact that this drama was very harmful to sabrina's mental and emotional health, as well as her career. you can say that any press is good press but there are people who will forever diminish her as just "the blonde girl." people need to stop acting as if sabrina was done a favor. a favor does not include death threats and a lifetimes worth of hate that she still receives to this day.

2. "taylor (swift) only chose her as an opening act to get back at olivia (rodrigo)" / "sabrina is only opening for taylor because she needed the help and olivia didn't."

pettiness is available to all ages. however, taylor alison swift is a 34 year old woman. she is a well-experienced musician who takes many younger people in the industry under her wing. this statement recycles the bullshit narratives that the media has created about taylor, that she's vindictive and immature. this statement also mischaracterizes sabrina and taylor's relationship. it is not new.

taylor has mentioned sabrina as far back as jingle ball 2017! in 2020, sabrina was sent a cardigan during the release of folklore. later taylor would go on to send sabrina red tv merch. the narrative that taylor suddenly befriended sabrina after cutting ties with olivia rodrigo some point after 2021 is absolute... nonsense (sorry). *and i'm pretty sure there is not even any real conflict between taylor and olivia but i don't follow olivia and ultimately don't care.

so why is sabrina suddenly blowing up? because nonsense is indeed a pop hit! sabrina having a new nonsense outro every night of the emails i can't send tour blew up on tiktok. olivia rodrigo had nothing to do with that. taylor had nothing to do with that. that was all sabrina. feather was a great follow up.

sabrina has been in the music/entertainment industry for ten years now. before emails i can't send, sabrina had already released 4 albums and headlined 3 tours. this means that she had already grown a strong base of fans that has been with her for years, long before emails. has taylor given her a major platform? has she become a mentor to sabrina? absolutely. sabrina has loved her for as long as a lot of us have - since we were young children. that doesn't mean she or anyone else should get credit for the years of hard work that sabrina has put in.

charting does not equal talent. people love to mock sabrina's career by saying she is unable to chart. there are an endless amount of talented musicians that don't get mass radio play or win awards because their record label - if they even have one, is lacking. for years, carpenters railed against hollywood records and wished for sabrina to move to a different label. finally in january of 2021, sabrina signed to island records. so far, they have given her more opportunities. sabrina released a major album with emails i can't send, she has been opening for taylor swift, shes like.. the coolest girl ever. people need to stop trying to invalidate her career and talent.

Everything I have ever read about Scooter, I don’t respect him enough to write his proper name, is that he puts himself first. Previous clients do not speak highly of his management. Taylor Swift for example.

Interesting fact, Taylor Swift, Halsey (Boy with Luv collaboration with BTS) and Camilla Cabello (Shawn Mendes is her ex) gave a great performance of “Shake it off” at the American Music Awards in Nov 2019.

Perhaps when Justin’s health issues became too grave to hide from the public or Justin himself refused to be held to his contract, (and perhaps Justin sold his catalog to cover his costs/penalties of canceling his tour) Scooter had an empty sandbox with no one to play with.

And, having lost his main source of income and having a keen head for business, (vulture capitalist) he had already set his sights on a new revenue stream. Of the seven BTS members, one in particular had released songs by Justin Bieber, proving he had what it took to be successful in the western market.

Jungkook has been a Bieber fan since he debuted with BTS. He ticks all the boxes needed for the western market, doesn’t he? Masculine build, tattoos, piercings, outstanding vocal ability and dance skills/technique and is a member of the greatest musical group in history?

No wonder Scooter went to the White House with BTS. Had to be sure to be there at the Grammys too. Front and center as though he was responsible for their success.

And by coincidence, their music videos, promotional materials for their solo albums and many of their conversations seem to hinting at something 😉

Oh Scooter, it isn’t fun when someone beats you at your own game, is it?

When in doubt as to what is going on in an organization, follow the $$$.

I commend the effort you've put into this ask and I can tell you're trying to build a case for your theory(-ies), but I'm not sure what exactly that theory is.

Is it that Scooter is broke and HYBE shifted financial resources from BTS to support him and their SM acquisition? Didn't HYBE tap capital markets precisely to raise proceeds for that purpose though? Or is it that Scooter is looking for a windfall in BTS now that his old roster of artists have abandoned ship?

But then, what is the implication here?

Is it that Jimin wasn't willing to play Scooter's balls like JK did apparently? But he had no issues accepting the Fast & Furious gig? And if so, what's the takeaway here? How does this tie in to the similarities in their concept pics styling, etc, so far?

You've already put quite some effort into building out this timeline so I hate to ask you to do more work, but I'm afraid the dots aren't quite connecting for me just yet. If you'd like to send me a follow up ask succinctly explaining what you mean, I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, all I can say is this looks like a variation of the same fan theories I've seen people come up with to explain Jimin's solo rollout relative to Jungkook's. The fact there's so much discourse around it indicates something else to me, but I'll let the dead horse be.

I wanted to make this post talking about all the possible representants of Spain in ESC 2024, as a little intro to them and how their songs might sound like. ALMÁCOR

Arturo Almarcha Corella, better known as Almácor (Villena, 26) is an urban artist that started his career in 2019. He has released an EP since then, and has collabed with artists like Henry Mendez or Chimbabala. This year he was nominated in the Best New Urban Artist in the Los 40 Music Awards. His most popular song is DE TO', and his last released song is Pop Tech.

ANGY FERNÁNDEZ

Angy Fernández (Palma, 33) is a LEGEND and our very own emo princess, she's an icon. Her leap to fame was being the runner up in the first edition of Spanish X Factor, in 2007, but she became a phenomenon when she starred in iconic teen drama Física o Química (2008-2011) as Paula Blasco. She also released various albums and songs, like the hit and iconic emo bop Sola en el silencio. After the show she has appeared in various TV programs like Tu Cara Me Suena, and has continued making music as well as acting in theatre, cinema and TV shows. Her last released song is Dualidad.

DELLACRUZ

Jorge de la Cruz Correa, better known as Dellacruz (Santa Cruz de Tenerife) is a Canarian urban pop singer that started his own singing career in 2019 after ample experience as a songwriter; he has written songs for artists such as Sergio Dalma, Xuso Jones, or Dvicio, among many others. His most known song is La Trama, whereas his last released song is Tocamos Cielo.

JORGE GONZÁLEZ

Jorge González González (Madrid, 35) first rose to fame after competing in OT 2006, and he since has been in two Spanish preselections for ESC 2009 and 2014. He has also participated in The Voice and in Tu Cara Me Suena, where he won in the 2020 edition. His most famous song is Por Besarte, and his last released song is Agüita.

LÉRICA

Lérica is a duo composed of Tony Mateo (San Fernando, 29) and Juan Carlos Arauzo formed in 2015 that sings pop infused flamenco and urban music, and have collabed with very big artists like Belinda, Gente de Zona, Abraham Mateo (brother of Tony Mateo), Cali y el Dandee or Juan Magán. They have 14 platinum albums and 9 golden ones, and are right now the most listened to Spanish duo in terms of streams. Their most famous song is Flamenkito, and their latest released song is Un Rato pa Siempre.

MANTRA

Mantra is a pop band made out of Carlos Marco (Alacant, 31), Paula Pérez and Charly Weinberg (Madrid, 25), born in 2020 when the three friends decided to start a project together. All three have been in the music industry for a long time; Carlos Marcos is the most-known of them, as he was part of the boyband Auryn (alongside Spain's representant in ESC 2021, Blas Cantó), who participated in the ESC 2011 preselection. They have an up-beat and positive attitude in their songs, and have released their first album in 2023. Their most popular song is No Te Esperaba, and their latest single is ¿Te Acuerdas o No?.

MARÍA PELÁE

María Peláe (Málaga, 33) is an icon and a flamenco singer known for her witty and ironic lyrics, with a modern spin on traditional sounds. She started her career in 2016 after studying Anthropology and Social Work in university, and so her songs usually have a social message. In fact, in 2023 she was awarded the Rainbow Award by the Ministry of Equality for her work in the LGBTQ+ scene. A song I really recommend of hers regarding this is La Niña, a very fun song about wlws (also the music video is soooo). She has released two albums - the second of which won an Odeón to Best Flamenco Album, and has participated in various TV shows like Tu Cara Me Suena. Her most popular song is Por si te vas, and her latest single is Letra Menúa.

MARLENA

MARLENA is an indie pop duo composed by Ana Legazpi (voice) and Carolina Moyano (guitar) that formed a band in 2017 when they decided to participate in X Factor Italy. They became friends with Damiano and Victoria from Maneskin, and decided to name themselves after one of their songs, Torna a Casa, where the name Marlena appears. They even sing some of Maneskin's song in their concerts. In 2021 they were nominated for Best New Artist or Group in the Los 40 Music Awards, and have collabed with Nil Moliner, La Pegatina or Despistados. I listen to their song bailamorena at least once a week (i wish i was joking), tho their most popular song is Me Sabe Mal. Their latest released song is Red Flags.

MISS CAFFEINA

Miss Caffeina, formed by Alberto Jiménez (voice), Sergio Sastre (guitar and keyboard) and Antonio Poza (bass) is definitely the biggest name this edition. They are a staple in the indie rock scene since their inception in 2006, and are especially staples in music festivals all over the country and abroad. Nebulossa is an electropop band formed by María Bas (voice) and Mark Dasousa (producer, synths). Noan (Zarautz, 25) is a pop-rock indie artist that debuted in 2020. He has collabed with zzoilo or El Sueño de Morfeo, and I personally really enjoy his collab with Paula Koops, Odio que te Quiero. His most popular song is ME MATA(S), and his latest song is Zero (which is a cover btw).

QUIQUE NIZA

Quique Niza (Madrid, 20) is a musical theatre actor who has been performing all of his life; some of his notable roles are Kurt von Trapp in The Sound of Music, and Danny Zuko in Grease (I saw him live here, and he's incredible!). He has also appeared in some TV shows, like UPA Next and Días Mejores. He has only released one song so far, Ardo.

ROGER PADRÓS

Roger Padrós (Polinyà, 26) is a Catalan singer and piano player that first rose to fame as a participant in The Voice. He has since released an EP and an album, with songs both in Spanish and Catalan (he has confirmed his song for Benidorm Fest will be in Catalan). He is also the resident musician of Casa Batlló, in Barcelona. His most popular song is Digue'm, and his latest song is El Buit.

SOFIA COLL

Sofia Coll i Benito (Barcelona, 24) is a singer, actress, and dancer who rose to fame as a participant of The Voice Kids when she was 14, although she didn't release music until 2019, with songs that mixed Spanish and English. She was one of the protagonist of the TV show Bany Compartit (I watched the first episode while writing this, it's really fun and I really recommend it! Episodes are around 10 minutes long, and you can find all of them in RTVE Play and Youtube; they're in catalan, but there's Spanish subs available), and she was one of the dancers in Rosalía's mv for Fucking Money Man. Finally, she participated in the Catalan music contest Eufòria this year, ending up 4th. Her most popular song is Tú Mente y Yo Corazón, and her latest song is Génesis: Alive.

ST. PEDRO

Pedro Hernández, better known as st. Pedro (Santa Cruz de Tenerife) is an urban artist, rising to fame due to The Voice, where he participated in 2017. Through the program he met Juanes, his musical godfather. He has know collabed with Alizzz in Miami, where he lives now. His most known song is Cerca del Sol, and his latest song is No es lo que toca.

YOLY SAA

Yoly Saa (Pontevedra) is a Galician singer-songwriter singing in Spanish that has been making music since 2020, although she has also composed for other artists such as Luz Casal o Malú. She has released an EP and a full album, and participated in Dúos Increíbles in 2022. Her most popular song is Todo contigo, and her latest song is Mal de altura.

Eh, no, it’s not factually true that her exes somehow fell off career wise when they spoke up about her. Jake G. called her out for cyberbullying like only in 2022 after she re-released Red in 2021 and her fans were sending him death threats and harassing him and his entire family. And he had high and lows in his career before speaking up against her. Not to mention that in 2022 Taylor for the first time in many years lost to her ex-when she gambled on an Oscar campaign built essentially on using her ex and her past relationships with him, but failed. John Mayer called her out in 2012 and after that he continued to have successful music tours and music releases. Calvin Harris successfully released album in 2017 (it was his highest position on US Billboards 200 actually), won Brit awards, etc, and it all was already after he stood up against her publicly.

On the other hand Taylor L. never spoke against TS bullshit ever, and is actually officially pretty much the only ex she’s friends with (supposedly), especially since she’s tots no longer friends with Joe J., after inserting herself into his divorce, yet male Taylor’s acting career is pretty non-existent these days, so it runs against the notion that speaking against Taylor leads her exes automatically to ruin somehow, while those exes who never spoke against her and her antics are doing automatically great.

I’m not talking about RUINED careers, I’m talking about the fact that none of them are talked about these days unless it’s about her. each one has an individual situation, which I pointed out, and again they may have fine careers in the background but they’re not mainstream anymore. whether they spoke out or not, that’s what happens to all her exes. harry only survived because he’d already been established with a just as frenzied fanbase when they dated. it’s literally just my opinion.

Bts looked so good with their long hair and nice suits on this last award show! I'm just really confused about what award show it was lol, how many do they have in South Korea? Because I've seen some fancams and video taken from shows that looked wildly different, with complex performances and dances, while this one seemed to me a little bit more tame.

I also remember seeing videos about the first extensive win of BTS that surprised many. Was it this one? Is this the most important award show in SK?

That was The Fact Award show. Officially abbreviated as TMA, often also called FMA. This award show was established I think, correct me if needed, in 2019. So it's *newer.* And it's awards are mostly fan voted and organized by the Fan N Star app where fans can vote for artists in whatever categories they are nominated for each year. BTS has attended and won each year. ARMYs were super happy about BTS winning so much at these awards this year since TMA is fan voted, it showed them that even with their solo ventures, hiatus and breaks, all their announcements they were so worried about, that ARMY is still there backing them, no matter what.
