So, I downloaded an Incredibles poster for a new wallpaper, and I noticed something...
I noticed in the corner a framed picture of Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl along with other superheroes. The supers here are Everseer, Phylange, Hypershock, Apogee, Blazestone, Universal Man, Gamma Jack, Downburst, Macroburst, and Psycwave, all of which are superheroes killed by Syndrome... THIS MEANS THAT ALL 10 OTHER SUPERS WERE BOB'S FRIENDS! That explains why he was so horrified. He not only lost allies, but he lost literal FRIENDS! Hell, in his NSA audio file, he literally talks about Phylange, which suggested that they were close friends. In the comics, Everseer left instructions to the NSA shortly before his death to send a packet of information to Bob about a decade later, containing nostalgic entries about Stormicide and Gamma Jack. Everseer apparently foresaw his death years before the event, much to the confusion of Bob and Lucius who, whilst respecting his powers of telepathy, always considered his clairvoyance to be mere superstition. This led to Bob having to find the HARD way that Everseer was truly right. And all of this because he rejected his former fan.

My idea on who I think would make the PERFECT villain for The Incredibles 3 (not that they're ever going to make one, this could also just be a fanfic idea)
NaNoWriMo somehow dragged me kicking and screaming back into my The Incredibles hyperfixation that I haven't thought about since 2021. Drafting up a long Tumblr post in my Notes app for a few days totally counts, right? (Probably not but whatever, I am fukcing passionate about The Incredibles lore, I need to ramble)
So, the villains of The Incredibles and Incredibles 2 are both genius inventors with no superpowers who use their technology to fight the heroes. What if, for the third villain, they ditched that idea and had a villain who was a Super?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Who'd be able to fill that role? Would they invent an entirely new character who is a Super? It wouldn't be too farfetched of an idea, they did invent two new Super supervillains in Lego Incredibles, The Anchor Man and Brainfreezer, one with hydrokinesis and the other with.... functionally cryokinesis like Frozone except she controls ice cream.
But what if... the villain was an already existing Super? That already poses a problem, a majority of the Supers in the present day of The Incredibles are either dead from Syndrome's Omnidroid or an unfortunate cape snag. The only surviving Supers from the pre-Super Ban Glory days are Mr Incredible, Elastigirl and Frozone and possibly Fironic and Plasmabolt (and only because they never showed up in Syndrome's Operation KRONOS database.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fironic is pretty ambiguous if he's still alive or not, but Plasmabolt for its practically a 100% chance of survival for a few reasons:
1. Her profile says she keeps her hero and civilian lives strictly separate, so she might have had no desire to go moonlighting as a hero like Mr Incredible did
2. She's a forest park ranger. She probably lives off-grid in a shack in the woods or something.
3. The way Psycwave, Everseer and Macroburst are killed one after the other, but Plasmabolt isn't counted with them. All four of these Supers were part of a superhero team called The Phantasmics. Mirage probably used their connection to find all of them, maybe Plasmabolt fell out of contact with her old friends.
Tumblr media
Plasmabolt herself might have been a good villain candidate, having lost faith in humanity after learning how the National Supers Agency failed to keep track of her old friends, of all the Supers, and didn't notice that Syndrome was picking them all off.
Buuuuuut she's not the one this post is about. There's another that would probably be an even better villain, mostly because she has a personal tie to one of the main characters.
Tumblr media
This is one of the features on the bonus disk of The Incredibles: a full set of character files and audio interviews of most of the Supers (except for Tradewind, Vectress, Blitzerman and Fironic. They didn't get profiles.)
It's listed in alphabetical order, featuring Apogee, Blazestone, Downburst, Dyna Guy, Elastigirl, Everseer, Frozone, Gamma Jack, Gazerbeam, Hypershock, Macroburst, Meta Man, Mr Incredible, Phylange, Plasmabolt, Psycwave, Stratogale, Splashdown, Stormicide, Thunderhead and Universal Man.
The one I want to draw attention to is this one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Side note, it’s kinda frustrating that the only way to find images of most of these guys in colour is to look for random comic strips and the freaking Lego game of all things. I’m just gonna link this fan art too because I think it rocks and is probably the best image of her https://www.tumblr.com/pazam/183219465026/no-gadgets-no-gimmicks?source=share)
THIS, is Blazestone, the blorbo- I MEAN, the Super I think would make a great villain in a hypothetical third Incredibles movie. Or a Frozone spinoff movie. Either works.
I think she'd make a good villain for a number of reasons.
1. SHE'S ALREADY BEEN THE MAIN VILLAIN OF ANOTHER OFFICIAL THE INCREDIBLES STORY.
Let me highlight something important from her profile. "ARRESTED AND JAILED. RECRUITED BY NSA. WATCH CLOSELY TO ENSURE SHE OPERATES WITHIN NSA GUIDELINES"
That's right, Blazestone is actually a reformed criminal. This one little detail from her profile is a major plot point in the novel Elastigirl: A Real Stretch.
Tumblr media
She was paired with Universal Man as part of her rehabilitation. In the novel, they're constantly arguing, they constantly insult each other. Universal Man is an incredibly strict rule follower and tries to keep her in line. He thinks she'll never make it as a true Super if she doesn't follow the guidelines and acts recklessly ("THESE TWO WOULD BE GREAT IF THEY DON'T KILL EACH OTHER FIRST")
She hates being constantly monitored and forced into teams with other Supers and wishes they'd give her the freedom to do what she wants, as opposed to being constantly badgered into being a better person and following the guidelines
Eventually, Blazestone gets so sick of the National Supers Agency that snaps and decides that the only way she'll be able to do what she wants is to KILL ALL THE OTHER SUPERS SO THERE'S NO ONE TO STOP HER FROM TAKING OVER.
Tumblr media
In fact, her plan involves
1. Steal a shipment of the ZAP chemical (the novel's McGuffin, a radioactive chemical used as a superpower enhancer that has various effects depending on which Super it's used on. For most of them, it disables their powers entirely, for some it makes their powers malfunction and Apogee is the only Super who's powers are actually enhanced by it.)
2. Secretly recruiting all the criminals she jailed as her henchmen and breaks them out of jail on the day of the Super Appreciation Day celebrations. These henchmen are disguised as other Supers and blend in with all the other cosplayers entering the Costume Contest.
3. Attack the Supers Appreciation Day celebration at the pier. Trap EVERY SINGLE SUPER inside a band shell covered by a net that's coated ZAP which basically fucks up all of their powers. She then lifts the band shell off the ground and was heading towards the ocean to drop it in and drown them all.
Tumblr media
 (a few pages later)
Tumblr media
.... I'm serious, that's what actually happens in the climax.
Never mind the fact that she's touching the net covered in the chemical that needed to be handled with heavy gloves WITH HER BARE HANDS BECAUSE HER SUPERSUIT HAS SHORT SLEEVES in order to lift the band shell. ...And the fact that she has no super strength so shouldn't have been able to carry the weight of a structure and 20+ Supers.
Blazestone actually mentioned earlier in the novel that ZAP had no effect on her, and while the novel never mentions it, my theory is that Blazestone is the only other Super who's powers are enhanced by ZAP. Apogee was also powered up by ZAP... in small doses but being that close to the netting enhanced her powers too much so she couldn't assist in the climax without incinerating everyone with the power of the sun. Blazestone must have lied about ZAP not having an effect on her to eliminate her as a suspect for the theft of the ZAP.
ANYWAY, Blazestone went full supervillain and that's the last we heard of her until she showed up dead in Syndrome's Project KRONOS database. Between Supers Appreciation Day and the beginning of the Super Ban, she might have resumed her criminal activities and became part of Municiberg's Rogues Gallery.
As the Super Ban went into effect she might have been kept in a maximum security facility for a few years until she managed to break out into a world where Supers are in hiding. She might have used her powers to commit smaller robberies to survive, which might have been how Mirage tracked her down..
But wait, she's dead isn't she? So how could she possibly be the main villain of Incredibles 3 if she's dead?
2. SHE'S ONE OF THE FEW SUPERS WHO COULD HAVE PLAUSIBLY SURVIVED THE OMNIDROID BY FAKING HER DEATH.
She's the 6th Super to have been killed by Syndrome, and is probably the Super Syndrome tested the Omnidroid's fireproofing on, hence when it's immune to lava.
Except.... Blazestone could have been marked as "Terminated" when she really wasn't.
Tumblr media
But how, exactly? The model of Omnidroid that killed her was v.X2 (the highest being v.10) so it was a VERY early model. Too early to have all the little issues ironed out. Perhaps there was a flaw that Blazestone exploited that kept her alive.
There's also Blazestone's powerset.  She has a threat rating of 5.5, which sounds low until you realise that the highest is Gamma Jack with 7.9 Her powers are listed as pyrokinetic discharge, heat control, heat resistance, high agility and flight (by riding on heated air) which is pretty OP by itself but there's one power not listed on the file that Blazestone mentions having.
From the Bonus Disk Audio Interviews: (sped up because she was talking through the entire interview on 2x speed) "Wait what, do you want me to say the whole thing again? I thought I was completely clear, are you- Do you want me to go back again? The whole thing? I don't understand... (back to normal speed because she realised she wasn't in the dimension where people talk really fast, I guess?) "...OH, okay. *laughs* I am so sorry, I know what the problem is! I can't *laughs again* I keep on forgetting which dimension that I'm in! Wait, which... Which dimension am I in?"
From Lego Incredibles: "Wait, which dimension is this? Never mind, I’m sure I’ll find out soon enough.”
That's right, apparently Blazestone has the ability to warp herself to other dimensions. And this isn't an out of the blue thing that probably isn't canon either, Incredibles 2 shows off exactly how that power would function.
(Transcript from Incredibles 2)
Tumblr media
Escaping by warping to another dimension is a VEEEERY good method of hiding your own body.
Picture this: Blazestone is contacted by Mirage. She's told a lie about the Omnidroid, it's the government's secret project and how it's went rogue. She gets told they looked for her because she's the only Super who defected from the NSA, they need her specifically. If they approached any other Super they might contact the NSA and expose the secret project. So they need her because she won't tattle.
Blazestone goes to Nomanisan Island and is told to go to Room A113 to wait for instructions. She gets bored and hates being told what to do so goes to explore. She finds the lava waterfall and flies through, only to find Syndrome on his computer looking over his Operation KRONOS files. She realises that they lured her to die, that she's not the first one they called to destroy the robot, they lied to her and now she's trapped. She goes back to Room A113, and while they're unaware that she found out, she starts asking too many questions.
The Omnidroid x.V2 is sent after her. She's not fighting to disable it for a sum of money, she's fighting for her life. Blazestone is agile, she flies out of reach of the Omnidroid, and hurls fireballs at it as it has no methods of hitting her back. Until it learns to throw its own projectiles at her. It uproots trees, throws rocks etcetera. It gets an unlucky hit in and knocks her to the ground. Suddenly Blazestone realises that it's getting more accurate, it's predicting where she'll fly next. There's no winning against it. They're near the volcano at this point so Blazestone makes a beeline towards it, if she could just reach the lava....
She's inside the lava caves, she flies directly over the lava. She's heat resistant. She baits the Omnidroid into throwing one more boulder and allows herself to get knocked into the lava. She's entirely submerged. Syndrome is watching the fight through hidden cameras, waiting for her to emerge, but she doesn't. Syndrome makes a quip about how the lava must have been too hot for even Blazestone to handle and marks her down as terminated. In reality, Blazestone warped to the other dimension the second she went under, tricking them into thinking her body melted away in the lava.
As for how Syndrome didn't know about her dimensional warping power, the fact that it's not listed on her National Supers Agency file kinda feels like the NSA didn't believe she had that power. She's a former criminal who probably figured that she she'd defect from being a Superhero at some point. If she ended up in a jail cell, she could teleport out of it. If they knew she could teleport they might have found some way to neutralise that power before sending her to jail. So Blazestone kept it a secret in the even that she'd need to escape from some where.
So Blazestone lives and freaks out about her near death experience. Except... She draws the wrong conclusion about Syndrome. She doesn't know that the government is actually oblivious to the fact that Syndrome is developing a robot strong enough to fight Mr Incredible using Supers as test subjects. She thinks the government is hunting down Supers and killing them with the Omnidroid.
She goes cold turkey on crime in case the government finds her again, but after all that, a deep resentment and rage bubbles up inside of her.
Flashforward to after Incredibles 2, when the Super Ban is lifted and the National Supers Agency is re-established and is recruiting Supers again. The details of Project KRONOS are released to the public. Blazestone's rage boils over.
She hates that the National Supers Agency is up and running to control Supers again like how they suffocated her with their rules and trapped her in a dysfunctional partnership with Universal Man, she hates that ordinary people tried to wipe out Supers when THEY should be in charge.
Remember in Incredibles 2 when Evelyn mind controlled Mr Incredible, Elastigirl and Frozone and made them forced them to say something into the camera during the public broadcast before they hijacked the hydrofoil to make them look bad?
Tumblr media
Yeah, Blazestone ACTUALLY believes that.
As far as anyone is aware, Blazestone is dead. She might hide her face to make sure nobody figures out it's her. She could target the DevTech/Wannabe Supers (Voyd, Screech, He-Lectrix, Brick, Krushauer and Reflux) and shake their confidence in the Supers Agency or the public's faith in Supers, after all, the Supers Agency let all the old Supers die, they public turned on you years ago, who's to say they won't turn on you again? Look, there's already politicians who disagree with the Super Ban being lifted and want to put heavy restrictions on Super activity. I think she'd be after Voyd specifically because she's an anxiety ridden easily manipulated mess who is also potentially a threat. After all, Voyd's power is portals, and she can follow Blazestone when she dimensional warps...
Tumblr media
She rallies a bunch of other young Supers who felt betrayed by the government banning Supers, perhaps she even manipulates a grieving Plasmabolt who's still mourning her teammates' deaths into acting as a mole in the National Supers Agency. She wants Supers to be on top while all the puny normals get subjugated like they deserve.
Baaasically she becomes Pixar Magneto? ... I'm not 100% certain, I'm not all that familiar with X-Men? I just kinda know who he is from watching one movie years ago. I don't know, I suck at writing allegories, I just have the vague idea in my head and I dunno how to put it to paper properly. If I've said something bad or made a bad comparison, I'm sorry. I'm writing this section at 3am.
3. SHE HAS AN EMOTIONAL CONNECTION TO ONE OF THE MAIN CAST.
If The Incredibles was about Mr Incredible and Incredibles 2 was about Elastigirl, who's the third member of their trio who hasn't got a chance to be a protagonist yet? Let's bring up the profiles again, shall we?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Notice anything?
"ONCE PARTNERS WITH FROZONE. BUT RELATIONSHIP RAN HOT AND COLD."
"FORMER PARTNERS WITH BLAZESTONE (ROMANTICALLY?)"
OH SNAP THAT'S RIGHT, FROZONE AND BLAZESTONE USED TO BE PARTNERS. POSSIBLY ROMANTICALLY.
Tumblr media
Blazestone was partnered with Frozone first before the NSA shoved her into the Beta Force with Universal Man. This is purely headcanon, but I like to imagine the Frozone/Blazestone team was known as the Alpha Force because Beta comes after Alpha. The sentence "relationship ran hot and cold" aside from being a bad pun, kinda implies that at some point the fluctuation led to them having a huge falling out and splitting their team apart so the NSA could try again with Universal Man.
Tumblr media
I found this on Reddit's Tumblr sub and honestly, my thoughts exactly.
Imagine the DRAMA of Frozone finding out that his former "Enemies to lovers to enemies" partner who tried to drown him on Supers Appreciation Day that one time who he thought was dead is suddenly alive again and is currently leading a gang of Supers to attacking people. There could be a deep dive into what their partnership was like, how he reacted to her fall from grace and all the mixed feelings of seeing her alive again in the present day.
Maybe this could finally be the opportunity to show Honey on screen. I mean, she HAS a design now and an entire deleted scene that they cut out because it caused pacing issues
Tumblr media
Imagine Frozone lying battered and bruised on the ground from Blazestone fighting him, and Honey runs to his defence. Blazestone mocks her like "What could you possibly do to me? You're powerless!" and then Honey takes her completely by surprise by pulling out a metal baseball bat or some other mundane household weapon and beats the ever loving shit out of her.
Tumblr media
Another idea I had that doesn't really fit into any section is the idea of bringing the Deavor siblings back. Winston and Evelyn having a fractured relationship after the events of Incredibles 2. Winston visiting her in jail trying to understand why she'd risk their father's legacy and endangering DevTech by connecting it with the attempted mass murder with a boat. Evelyn snapping back that he never noticed how she was feeling as they grieved for their parent's deaths because he was too focused on thinking that they died because there was no Supers around anymore to save them.
Blazestone kidnapping both of them and forcing Evelyn, the one who hates Supers with her entire being to remake the Screenslaver technology by threatening to burn Winston to death if she doesnt comply. Why does Blazestone need the hypnosis tech? Because she's aware that some of the Supers she recruited might not be 100% loyal and wants to control their minds to keep them in line if she has to. Because she doesn't care at all about any of the other Supers, she just wants to use them for her own gain so that SHE can control the city. Plasmabolt is definitely going to be the one to betray Blazestone in the end. She realises that Everseer, Macroburst and Psycwave wouldn't have wanted her to harm innocent people to avenge their deaths, so she'd fight alongside The Incredibles family, the Wannabe Supers, and Frozone.
Aaaand that's all I have to say, it somehow took me three hours to move all this text from Google Docs to Tumblr and find accompanying images.
Hope you liked my probably badly written sequel idea

National Supers Agency - Supers audio files (The Incredibles DVD disc 2). Based on this video do you think some of these powers could translate well as quirks. Downburst for one seems like a prototype/downgrade of Overhaul so I think it'd work well as a minor quirk
For the sake of this, I'm sticking with the characters in the video and none from the actual movies, so no Frozone. Right off the bat, I'm telling you that Gamma Jack, Dynaguy, Downburst, Metaman, and Universal Man all can't work. Their abilites are either too varied or too powerful. You compare some of their powers to "Overhaul", but reshaping stuff doesn't even come close to total control over matter. Then we eliminate powers that are too similar. We've got "Hellflame" for Blastone, "Whirlwind" for Macroburst, "Vibrate" for Hypershock, and "Voice" for the The Phylange. From there, it's just matter of focusing on the main gimmicks of the other characters. Everseer: Eyeglass Gazerbeam: Shiner Plasmabolt: Ambiance Psycwave: Mindsweeper Splashdown: Waterlogged Stormicide: Iron Lung Stratogale: Exertion Thunderhead: Hydrometer

Finally caught up with my Dad on BattleBots, so I get to make a bracket this year! Here's my finals prediction (under a readmore because as usual I got carried away):
May 4th Episode
Riptide vs Shatter!: As much as I'm irritated by the unsportsmanlike behavior from Riptide's captain, they have an incredible bot with the means to go undefeated this season. That said, Shatter! won't be much of an obstacle for them. Riptide wins by KO.
Lucky vs Hypershock: Both of these bots have made major improvements over the years, but with Will Bales as an opponent, I don't see Lucky making it to the bell. Hypershock wins by KO.
End Game vs Tantrum: This is sure to be an exciting match, what with two former champs facing off, but my money's definitely on End Game. End Game wins by a unanimous judge's decision.
Copperhead vs Rotator: Both of these bots are well-built and well-driven, so I imagine this will be a hell of a fight that ends with both bots punch-drunk. Unfortunately, Rotator isn't performing as well as anyone would've hoped this season, so they're at a disadvantage. Copperhead wins by a split judge's decision.
Witch Doctor vs Jackpot: As much as I like Jackpot, they just aren't the same bot that took the sport by storm during their debut. Besides, Witch Doctor is killing it this season. Witch Doctor wins by a unanimous judge's decision.
Lock-Jaw vs Bloodsport: I really hope this will be a killer match, seeing as these two are both well-made bots that have powerful weapons. Bloodsport wins by a surprising KO.
Huge vs Skorpios: I'm gonna say something that'll probably get me some heat; I don't like Skorpios's captains or even the bot itself, as both are just annoying to watch. That said, Huge is amazing this season, and I don't see them being stopped this early into the bracket. Huge wins by a split judge's decision that will probably piss a few fans off.
Claw Viper vs Mad Catter: Claw Viper has been extremely impressive this year, but even with that success in mind, I think Mad Catter's experience and durability will earn them the win. Mad Catter wins by a unanimous judge's decision.
May 11th Episode
Minotaur vs Fusion: Fusion is at the bottom of the bracket for a reason; they have terrible reliability and I just don't think they have what it takes to make an upset. Minotaur wins by KO.
Switchback vs Malice: Malice has been off their game all season, and I don't see that changing, especially against such an improvement from Switchback. Switchback wins by a unanimous judge's decision.
Sawblaze vs Blip: Yet another case of a classic bot doing poorly, I don't have any faith in Blip this season. Besides, Sawblaze is way too good to lose their first bracket match. Sawblaze wins by a unanimous judge's decision.
Cobalt vs Monsoon: As much as I love Monsoon and their design, I don't believe they have a chance against a monster like Cobalt. Cobalt wins by KO.
Hydra vs Death Roll: This is definitely a controversial theory, but I think Death Roll can take Hydra down; their bot is built in such a way that I think they have the means to pull off the upset of the season (save of course for Endgame vs RIPperoni). Death Roll wins by a surprising KO that yet again sends the Hydra fanboys into a frenzy, but at least this time they can't blame a woman.
Beta vs Whiplash: Am I the only one sick of hammerbots? I think Beta did well enough to make the top 32, but I don't see them winning against Danny's driving. Whiplash wins by split judge's decision.
Quantum vs Ribbot: Quantum has been overwhelmingly good this season (I'm still salty they didn't get the number 4 seat) and I can see them overtaking Ribbot, especially considering Ribbot's lackluster performance this year. Quantum wins by split judge's decision.
RIPperoni vs Black Dragon: Even taking RIPperoni's impressive wins this year into account, I don't think they can quite top Black Dragon, but I'd be happy to see them pull it off. Black Dragon wins by a controversial split judge's decision.
May 18th Episode
Minotaur vs Switchback: It's pretty clear cut in my mind that Minotaur will slaughter Switchback in a weapon on weapon collision. Minotaur wins by KO.
Sawblaze vs Cobalt: This is gonna be a close match, considering the skills and power of these two bots, but I think Sawblaze outclasses Cobalt with their driving. Sawblaze wins by a split judge's decision.
Death Roll vs Whiplash: As much as I adore Whiplash and their driver, I think Death Roll has a good chance at beating them into a corner, but I'd love to be surprised. Death Roll wins by a split judge's decision.
Quantum vs Black Dragon: Again, this is a hard match-up for me, but even with Quantum's impressive performance this season, I don't see them going the distance. Black Dragon wins by KO.
Riptide vs Hypershock: Why do I get the feeling this episode is going to snipe me? Hypershock is my favorite bot (next to Minotaur), but Riptide might be too much, even for Will Bales. Riptide wins by KO.
End Game vs Copperhead: In yet another powerful brawl, I can see both teams taking a serious beating, with End Game outmaneuvering Copperhead enough to earn extra control points. End Game wins by a split judge's decision.
Witch Doctor vs Bloodsport: With how amazing Witch Doctor has become over the last few years, I don't see Bloodsport having the means to KO them, and in a fight that goes the distance, Witch Doctor is hard to outdo. Witch Doctor wins by a unanimous judge's decision.
Huge vs Claw Viper: As incredible as Claw Viper has become, I don't see them standing a chance against a bot like Huge, unless of course they go the cowardly way like Hydra did in 2021 (yes I'm still mad about that). Huge wins by KO.
May 25th Episode
Minotaur vs Sawblaze: In what will certainly be an exciting start to the season finale, I can see Minotaur destroying Sawblaze's weapon early in the fight and pushing them around until the bell. Minotaur wins by a unanimous judge's decision.
Death Roll vs Black Dragon: In what's sure to be a slugging match, I think Black Dragon has the advantage thanks to their sheer durability and knack for destruction. Black Dragon wins by KO.
Riptide vs End Game: For reasons other than pettiness, I truly believe End Game can put an end (pun intended) to Riptide's tournament sweep. End Game wins by KO.
Witch Doctor vs Huge: If anyone can take Huge down to their level, it's Witch Doctor, and I'm sure they'll do it in style. Witch Doctor wins by KO (most likely by getting Huge stuck on/out of the arena).
Minotaur vs Black Dragon: This fight will probably be the most destructive of the night, with both teams chewing each other up the full three minutes. Minotaur wins by a split judge's decision.
End Game vs Witch Doctor: I would absolutely love to see Witch Doctor go for a third round with Minotaur, but End Game is a hard bot to beat. Again, I'd love to be surprised here. End Game wins by KO.
Minotaur vs End Game: Good lord, this will be a legendary fight. While End Game has adopted the skills that made Bite Force so unkillable, Daniel Freitas is damn near unstoppable when he's under pressure. Minotaur wins by KO.
tldr; MINOTAUR SWEEP PLS PLS PLS

Reliability is the most important thing when it comes to combat robotics. If you have an exceedingly powerful weapon but are unreliable, I'm rooting against you. (I'm looking at you Glitch from last year and Hypershock of years past! Hypershock used to be straight-up bad as a team because they would never be prepared and were VERY unreliable. They're good now though, so at least I'm fine with rooting for them now.) I wish they did more to reward reliability within the scorecards and competition rules.
P1 is an underrated bot and I like it a lot! Shame that his creator has moved on to make Starchild, but at least Starchild is interesting. P1 still deserves more love though. Also Shatter is a decent bot with a good design principle behind it that deserves more wins than it gets purely because the design principle aesthetically looks bad.
I disagree with the decision BattleBots made this year with limiting the number of robots they accept and giving each bot more matches. I would much rather see more variety with the bots than more matches with each individual bot, even if it means seeing some truly pathetic bots getting stomped into the ground. Honestly, sometimes you need a bit of that! (Though I don't know if there was anything else behind the scenes that led to this decision. I don't exactly keep up with the social media, community, or decisions behind the scenes with this sport.)
Vertical Spinners < Horizontal Spinners < Lifters and Flippers. Because I'm a barbarian. Good driving is important, dammit! But admittedly, I do like drum spinners a lot (but this is purely my Copperhead and Minotaur bias speaking).
ooh lots of spicy takes here. going point-by-point:
definitely fair that reliability is number one! but i don't think it's ever made me root against a bot. it usually makes me root for them, and wanna see them pull through. if anything, if a bot is known to be unreliable, my expectations for them are just mega lowered. i will say that it is objectively sexy when a bot is sturdy and reliable af (looking @ you endgame)
I miss P1 so much aah. It was so unique compared to 'vert spinner #74' etc. And you can tell Brandon really loved that bot. I'm glad he's still in the sport but I do wish P1 was still around. I hope Starchild gets a chance to really shine though at some point but oooff so far (I blame the matchups, not the bot)
Interesting that you think Shatter! aesthetically looks bad. I personally love the vibe they're going for but I can see how it might be polarizing.
Hmm I think the 4 fight thing was the right thing to do just for the sake of the builders and making BattleBots feel more like a proper sport. I would love to see variety but I'm glad we have a few weeks of alternate matches coming up soon. I'm really happy they made the decision to let the drivers know all matches at the beginning of the tournament, but they still possibly could've done that by just picking from the get-go which bots get 2/3/4/etc fights.
I get why people don't like verts but I have to admit I'm a bit of a simp for them. They simply put on some great fights and belong to some of my fave bots. I will say that drum spinners are in a league of their own. Copperhead and Minotaur are always an absolute JOY to watch. Also omg this season has given me a whole new respect for control bots. Claw Viper and Quantum have been absolutely incredible

After over a year, my project of drawing every super Syndrome killed in The Incredibles continues! I’m designing what they’d look like out of their costumes during the Golden Age and 15 years later (or whenever it was when they died). I’m using the small b&w portraits of the heroes and the Lego game models as a base.
This second set consists of all of those who fought Omnidroid v.X2: Phylange, Blazestone and Downburst (who destroyed it) and Hypershock who fought and destroyed v.X3.
I’ll be mixing canon and headcanon under the cut.
Phylange (around ages 32-47) was an opera singer in his everyday life. As a super he was never really embraced by the public or his colleagues because of his abrasive and selfish nature. He was part of the superhero group Thrilling Three with Apogee and Dynaguy, who was replaced by Gazerbeam after his death. Him and Phylange didn’t mix well together so he left the group after a while and the whole group was disbanded soon after. Because of all the drama he was just kind of relieved after the Relocation Program went in effect and he could just focus on his opera singing career without a costant fear of laryngitis. It took a lot of specific kind of persuading for him to fall into Syndrome’s trap.
Blazestone (around ages 25-40) was a petty criminal until the National Supers Agency recruited her and put her under their strict supervision. Her independent, hot-headed and unpredictable nature didn’t make it easy for them. To keep her in line she was paired with Universal Man, forming the Beta Force. These two didn’t get along however and she ended up defecting from the NSA and going back to her criminal ways. She was just laughing at other supers when she heard about the Relocation Program and kept utilising her powers in her criminal escapades. She was almost impossible to track down due to her moving around a lot, being in prisons and changing identities but because of one slip up of hers Syndrome could finally reach her almost by accident. Trapping her with the Omnidroid still wasn’t easy. (Note: I’m aware that her canon suit colour is supposedly blue but you’ll never convice me about it.)
Downburst (around ages 30-45) worked in a doctor’s office as a medical assistant where he was able to utilize his ability of healing small wounds. He was tired of the job though and wanted to do something “sexier” so he quit and became a full-time superhero. The NSA helped him develop his abilities even further. He was romantically interested in Blazestone and was one of the key figures bringing her to justice after her defection. He was finally getting recognition in the community and had made great progress with his abilities when the Relocation Program hit. He still wanted to help people though so he went and studied to become a doctor and felt his job was fulfilling. His love for superhero work (or Blazestone for that matter) never went anywhere so he was pretty easy to trap by using the disappearance of Blazestone as a bait. He managed to destroy v.X2 and the thrill of hero work made him to come back to meet his end with v.X3.
Hypershock (around ages 28-43) was a bad tempered young man with a drinking problem. It often required lots of praise to get to his good side and to make him to do anything. He was one of the most powerful supers around and he made sure no-one ever forgot it. It was common to see him either drunk or hangover in either of his jobs, the other being construction work. He didn’t take the news of the Relocation Program well and he ended up losing both of his jobs due to going into an angry binge. His life afterwards was ups and downs and him fighting his alcoholism. He had a stable job and had been sober for a while when he was called to do some hero work. Interested if he still had it in him after all these tumultuous years he answered the call and managed to destroy v.X3 without much effort. Blinded by his overconfidence he was rather easily killed by v.X4.

Fun (completely headcanon) facts about Stratogale!
• Gail would often go to the woods to hang out with her bird friends when she was upset.
• Gail had an amazing singing voice and, combined with her skilled guitar playing, would sing often. Sometimes by herself, sometimes with Morgan, and occasionally in front of her close friends.
• She had a pet cockatiel named Casper, whom she had ever since she was 10 years old. Casper was given to the Parrs when Gail died, and they took great care of him until his passing two years after.
• Oddly enough, she had a pet cat named Tiger. Tiger was an orphaned kitten that Gail took in, only to be surprised of how much Casper showed concern and exhibited parental care to the mewling ball of fluff. The two became father and son.
• Gail was pretty darn tall for a girl her age (5'11" at 16). She hated her height, especially when Gamma Jack (5'8") pointed out how freakishly tall she was.
• She never uttered a single curse word in her life. Not even when she was really angry.
• Gail wasn't a vegetarian, but she wouldn't eat anything bird meat of any kind, not even eggs.
• Gail wasn't the country girl stereotype, despite being a farm girl from Tennessee with an obvious accent (though not as obnoxious as the Lego game), but she was pretty damn good at square dancing and horseback riding.
• During a game of Truth or Dare on the balcony at the NSA headquarters, a drunk Hypershock dared Elastigirl to kiss Stratogale (her crush on Helen was super obvious). Because Helen was 22 and Gail was 16, she only gave Gail a quick, platonic cheek kiss to the girl she considered more of a little sister. Still, this caused a blushing Stratogale to blast off through the air, straight through the clouds and into the stratosphere. Gail then came falling like a shooting star and crash landed onto Rick's car, all while having a big lovestruck grin the entire time.
Rick: Wh- ... What the hell?! Again?!
Gail: 😍 *giggles* She kissed me...
*the supers are all looking down from the balcony*
Hypershock: 😆 Goddamn! The fucking kid took off like a rocket! This is even better than I thought! *laughing hysterically with Mr. Incredible, Frozone, Gamma Jack, Blazestone, and Dynaguy*
Macroburst: *pinching the bridge of their nose* 😫
Thunderhead: Holy shit... I... Uh... Wow. 😓
Apogee: Good thing the NSA's insurance can cover that...
Elastigirl: I'm never playing this game again...
XD Yeah, I just make up dumb ideas, but I hope you guys like them anyway.

Supers murdered by Syndrome and his Omnidroids - the definitive list
Omnidroid VX1 (Destroyed by Macroburst)
This Omnidroid had 2 two-fingered arms and a pair of wheels.
Universal Man: A super so devoted to his careeer that he had no secret identity. Power: atomic density manipulation. Threat rating: 2.9. The first-ever to be killed by an Omnidroid.
Psycwave: Member of the Phantasmics along with Everseer and Gazerbeam. A paranoid psychologist. Powers: mental/psychic abilities, clairvoyance, telekinesis. Threat rating: 1.6, the lowest of all.
Everseer: Psycwave’s colleague, a member of the Phantasmics. An OCD germaphobe who couldn’t fight hand-to-hand because of his phobia. Powers: magnifying vision, clairvoyance, telepathy. Threat rating: 3.2.
VX1 Kill Count: 3.
Omnidroid VX2 (Destroyed by Downburst)
This Omnidroid was about the same as the last, except that it had two legs instead of wheels.
Macroburst: A non-binary superhero (seriously! Canonically!) who was obsessed with maintaining their hairstyle, and former sidekick of Everseer. Powers: wind control and flight. Threat rating: 5.9.
Phylange: An abrasive superhero who was disliked by the public and rivals with Mr. Incredible. An opera singer in his normal life. Former member of the Thrilling Three alongside Gazerbeam and Apogee. Powers: using his voice to blast sonic fields. Threat rating: 4.7.
Blazestone: A sassy, quick-talking, multi-dimensional heroine who used to date Frozone and was a love interest of Downburst. Powers: fire control and flying on heated air, as well as seeing multiple dimensions. Threat rating: 5.5.
VX2 Kill Count: 3.
Omnidroid VX3 (Destroyed by Hypershock)
This robot closely resembled the VX1, but with a more advanced sensory array.
Downburst: A hero who was a doctor in his secret life. When he initially became a super, his powers weren't fully developed, leading to him being initially rejected by the superhero community; he had to fight for recognition. Powers: atomic manipulation, healing. Threat rating: 6.5.
VX3 Kill Count: 1.
Omnidroid VX4 (Destroyed by Gazerbeam)
The VX4 was more egg-shaped than its predecessors and had four legs with grappling claws.
Hypershock: An alcoholic hero with a bad temper. Power: manipulating seismic activity, creating earthquakes. Threat rating: 6.5.
Apogee: A member of the Thrilling Three alongside Gazerbeam and Phylange, she was highly intelligent but blunt and critical of others. Powers: gravity control and levitation. Threat rating: 6.5.
Blitzerman: Not much is known about him. Powers: high-powered locomotion.
Tradewind: Not much is known about them. Powers: elemental control.
Vectress: Not much is known about her. Powers: sub-sonic bursts.
VX4 Kill Count: 5.
Omnidroid 5 (Destroyed by Gamma Jack)
This version of the Omnidroid was a sidelong oval shape and had four legs with grappling claws. It was the first Omnidroid to not be called “VX (Number)”.
Gazerbeam: An intelligent lawyer and, in his later life, a superhero advocate, who had trouble forming personal relationships. Also a member of the Phantasmics. Powers: laser vision. Threat rating: 6.3.
Stormicide: A chemistry student who was sensitive to criticism. Powers: absorbing and emitting vapors, flight. Threat rating: 6.7.
Omnidroid 5 Kill Count: 2.
Omnidroid 6 (Unknown who destroyed it; later replaced with the Omnidroid 7)
The Omnidroid 6 closely resembles the round Omnidroids which Mr. Incredible and his family fought later in the movie.
Gamma Jack: A narcissistic, super-supremacist hero who the NSA feared might eventually become a villain, but was popular with the ladies. Powers: controlled bursts of radiation. Threat rating: 7.9, the third-highest, after Mr. Incredible and Meta Man (the latter of whom, you’ll remember, was killed by an express elevator).
Omnidroid 6 Kill Count: 1.
Total Kill Count: 15.
Actual Kill Count: likely, there are further victims that we didn’t hear about in the movie.
Conclusion: Syndrome is Pixar’s only serial killer thus far.

So I got too curious to just keep this post an unanswered question, so I went through the NSA audio files and the Operation Kronos information (huge thanks to @deav0rs to organizing that info so nicely) and did some estimates on why the supers were given their respective ranks. Keep in mind that most of these are just estimates and guesses about the strength of their abilities, so feel free to add your suggestions!
I've also ranked the stats the NSA files give on a 1-10 scale. Since I'm translating the scale from an unnumbered graph, I can't guarantee they'll be 100% accurate, but they're at least close.
And finally, here's an extra little diagram I made of the transition from the lower leveled supers to the higher leveled ones, since the supers weren't killed off in perfect numerical order:
Tumblr media
----
Omnidroid VX1
Supers killed:
UNIVERSAL MAN:
Power: atomic density manipulation
Weakness: ultra high density transformation can create uncontrollable gravitational nexus
Threat rating: 2.9
power type: 9
strength: 3
endurance: 2
intelligence: 1
agility: 1
indestructibility: 10
Strengths against the Omnidroid: indestructibility
Weaknesses against the Omnidroid: own powers may be too uncontrollable, vulnerable in a low density state
Reason for rating: Powers are strong, yet ineffective, as he can only change his own density
PSYCWAVE:
Powers: mental force wave generation, temporary mental paralysis, ability to possess another's body
Weakness: own body vulnerable while possessing another's body
Threat rating: 1.6
power type: 9
strength: 1
endurance: 4
intelligence: 9
agility: 1
indestructibility: 1
Strengths against the Omnidroid: mental force wave generation
Weaknesses against the Omnidroid: lack of other effective abilities
Reason for rating: Powers are strong, yet ineffective. Mental force waves probably aren't strong enough to effect the Omnidroid, if at all
EVERSEER:
Powers: microscopic and telescopic vision, clairvoyance, telepathy
Weakness: mind-reading animals, especially squirrels (so either he likes to read the mind of squirrels, or we're just supposed to accept that squirrels read minds in this universe. Alright then.)
Threat rating: 3.2
power type: 6
strength: 1
endurance: 4
intelligence: 10
agility: 1
indestructibility: 1
Strengths against the Omnidroid: clairvoyance, high intelligence
Weaknesses against the Omnidroid: telepathy and magnifying vision probably aren't extremely useful against it, can't fight hand to hand due to germophobia, NSA profile of the Phantasmics state that Everseer's role was to communicate telepathically to organize and direct the rest of the team, therefore may have a difficult time working alone
Reason for rating: clairvoyance and high intelligence allows for evasion, but has no offensive abilities
---
Omnidroid VX2
Upgrades: two legs instead of wheels/treads, possibly to combat mobility or balance issues, possibly sturdier to combat abilities like Psycwave's force generation.
Supers killed:
MACROBURST: - destroyed Omnidroid VX1
Powers: wind control and flight
weakness: claustrophobia
Threat rating: 5.9
power type: 8
strength: 1
endurance: 8
intelligence: 4
agility: 9
indestructibility: 4
Strengths against the Omnidroid:  high velocity wind generation (possibly tornado force winds?), flight
Weaknesses against the Omnidroid: lack of other effective abilities
Reason for rating: flight for evasion and strong winds could topple the Omnidroid
THE PHYLANGE:
Powers: sonic field voice projection
Weakness: sonic feedback, laryngitis
Threat rating: 4.7
power type: 4
strength: 3
endurance: 4
intelligence: 1
agility: 2
indestructibility: 6
Strengths against the Omnidroid: sonic fields
Weaknesses against the Omnidroid: lack of other effective abilities
Reason for rating: sonic fields could weaken the Omnidroid, but not destroy it
BLAZESTONE:
Powers: fire control and flying on heated air, as well as seeing multiple dimensions
Weakness: water and below zero temperatures
Threat rating: 5.5
power type: 6
strength: 4
endurance: 4
intelligence: 5
agility: 6
indestructibility: 3
Strengths against the Omnidroid: fire control (assuming the omnidroid wasn't heat resistant at this point), flight
Weaknesses against the Omnidroid: lack of other effective abilities, risk of being thrown into water
Reason for rating: heat resistance was not implemented into this Omnidroid, flight for evasion
---
Omnidroid VX3
Upgrades: possible error, as it's identical to VX1, but could also be a return to the tread/wheeled design. deav0rs has suggested that this version has a more advanced sensory array. Likely heat resistant after dealing with Blazestone.
Supers killed:
DOWNBURST: - destroyed Omnidroid VX2
Powers: atomic manipulation, healing
Other: can create transportation devices from available material, but nothing more complex than a bike apparently, cannot reshape matter into complex forms, reshaping organics limited to healing small wounds
Threat rating: 6.5
power type: 5
strength: 1
endurance: 7
intelligence: 4
agility: 5
indestructibility: 3
Strengths against the Omnidroid: possibly has the ability to reshape it into a different form of matter or material, self healing (for small injuries only)
Weaknesses against the Omnidroid: lack of other effective abilities
Reason for rating: risk of reshaping Omnidroid into a different form of matter or material, but possibly too large/difficult to reshape effectively or easily
---
Omnidroid VX4
Upgrades: return to legged design, egg shaped design, more material used in taller design may make it more difficult to reshape, multi-directional sensors
Supers killed:
HYPERSHOCK: - destroyed Omnidroid VX3
Power: manipulating seismic activity, creating earthquakes
weakness: powers ineffective on non-solid objects
Threat rating: 6.5
power type: 7
strength: 7
endurance: 6
intelligence: 4
agility: 3
indestructibility: 3
Strengths against the Omnidroid: earthquakes
Weaknesses against the Omnidroid: lack of other effective abilities
Reason for rating: earthquakes, but the Omnidroid is probably sturdy and well-balanced enough to resist a decent amount of damage
APOGEE:
Powers: gravity control and levitation
Weakness: absence of sunlight (ex. clouds or eclipses)
Other: NSA files state that she fought using air strikes
Threat rating: 6.5
power type: 10
strength: 3
endurance: 9
intelligence: 8
agility: 3
indestructibility: 4
Strengths against the Omnidroid: possibly the ability to crush or lighten the Omnidroid's weight using gravitational control, levitation
Weaknesses against the Omnidroid: less sunlight due to tree cover, possible cloudy day or fighting at night
Reason for rating: gravitational control could prove effective, levitation for evasion, but lack of sunlight may give it enough of an advantage
BLITZERMAN:
Powers: high-powered locomotion
Threat rating unknown
TRADEWIND:
Powers: elemental control
Threat rating unknown
VECTRESS:
Powers: sub-sonic bursts
Threat rating unknown
---
Omnidroid 5
Upgrades: rounder body - possibly to aid in balance and reach of claws (can now reach above body, possibly to protect against aerial attacks), sensors placed on top of body (once again, probably to defend against aerial attacks as well as increase field of vision while also using fewer sensors)
Supers killed:
GAZERBEAM: - destroyed Omnidroid VX4
Powers: laser vision
weakness: reflective surfaces
Threat rating: 6.3
power type: 4
strength: 4
endurance: 9
intelligence: 6
agility: 2
indestructibility: 1
Strengths against the Omnidroid: laser vision (assuming the Omnidroid is not heat resistant yet/not heat resistant enough, or lasers are not heat-based)
Weaknesses against the Omnidroid: weak night vision (if fighting at night)
Reason for rating: Omnidroid likely not resistant/not resistant enough to lasers, but still difficult to burn
STORMICIDE:
Powers: absorbing and emitting vapors, flight
Threat rating: 6.7
power type: 5
strength: 2
endurance: 6
intelligence: 4
agility: 5
indestructibility: 3
Strengths against the Omnidroid: flight, may be able to implode or explode the Omnidroid by manipulating the air within and around it
Weaknesses against the Omnidroid: lack of other effective abilities
Reason for rating: flight for evasion, ability to implode or explode Omnidroid, but possibly with some difficulty
---
Omnidroid 6
Upgrades: sphere shaped body, possibly to aid in structural integrity against powers that could crush it and/or implemented the ability to turn into a ball
Supers killed:
GAMMA JACK: -  destroyed Omnidroid 5
Powers: controlled bursts of radiation
Threat rating: 7.9
power type:  10
strength: 4
endurance: 4
intelligence: 8
agility: 2
indestructibility: 1
Strengths against the Omnidroid: powers include focused burns to complete disintegration
Weaknesses against the Omnidroid: focused burns may be ineffective if the Omnidroid is heat resistant at this point, sharp decline in effectiveness of powers over distances of 100 meters
Reason for rating: extremely strong powers, but short range and possible heat resistance are a disadvantage
---
Omnidroid 7 - possibly destroyed, retired, or upgraded
Upgrades: unknown
---
Omnidroid 8
Upgrades: unknown
---
Omnidroid 9
Upgrades: larger
Supers defeated:
MR. INCREDIBLE: - destroyed Omnidroid 8
Powers: mega strength, near invulnerability, ability to sense imminent danger
Threat rating: 9.1
power type: 4
strength: 10
endurance: 10
intelligence: 6
agility: 7
indestructibility: 10
Strengths against the Omnidroid: strength, endurance, and indestructibility
Weaknesses against the Omnidroid: Can still be injured by it
Reason for rating: no clear weaknesses, but the Omnidroid's ai has a strategical advantage
---
Omnidroid 10
Upgrades: larger, added 6th leg, bottom sensor possibly removed, rocket claws, and laser gun (most modifications likely done to increase damage to surroundings)
Defeated by Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Violet, Dash, and Frozone
---
*BONUS!*
ELASTIGIRL:
Powers: full body elasticity
Other: strength diminishes in proportion to max elasticity
Threat rating: 6.1
power type: 4
strength: 4
endurance: 6
intelligence: 9
agility: 10
indestructibility: 1
Strengths against the Omnidroid: agility and high stealth
Weaknesses against the Omnidroid: low indestructibility
Reason for rating: could easily evade the Omnidroid, but has few offensive or defensive counters
FROZONE:
Powers: ice generation
Weakness: heat and low humidity environments
Other: transport using ice skis, ice skates, and ice discs
Threat rating: unknown
power type: 8
strength: 4
endurance: 4
intelligence: 8
agility: 9
indestructibility: 4
Strengths against the Omnidroid: high humidity, high agility, can temporarily freeze the Omnidroid in place
Weaknesses against the Omnidroid: key word: temporarily, heat
Reason for rating: predicted rating of about 5-6.5 for evasiveness, but ice powers are only a temporary advantage

To Be Super
Wow my first piece of writing in years! Hopefully you guys like it, I’m a bit rusty LOL. So here’s an Incredibles 2 fanfic!
This is a prequel of sorts, from Screech’s perspective, about him getting inspired to become a superhero. Details are left sorta vague, since we don’t know... anything about his secret identity. Oh well! Also one thing to note, I headcanon Metroville to be located on the west coast, since a lot of it is modeled after California. And I headcanon Screech to be living on the east coast somewhere, so he’s a couple hours ahead of the Metroville events.
Anyway, enjoy!
Word count: 2048
He sat watching the television, starting to doze off on the couch. It was getting pretty late, but he had no desire to go to his room and go to bed. The light coming from the television set was the only source of illumination in the room. As he was absentmindedly flipping through the channels, his interest was caught with a breaking news scene.
It was being filmed in Metroville, it said, where a large plane-like vehicle just crashed into the ground. As people started to crowd around it, the vehicle broke apart and released a giant spherical object. He sat up in his seat as the sphere suddenly sprouted long robotic legs and started crushing cars. He couldn't help but think back to when he was a kid, and when this sort of thing happened, superheroes would show up to save the day.
But that was a long time ago. As a kid he always dreamed about helping people with his powers. Once superheroes were deemed unsafe and illegal, however, he was forced to stop using his powers in public. That doesn't mean he stopped using them entirely, but he kept it hidden from others, for the most part. For a while he had tried to moonlight hero work once he was older, but he quickly found out that a sonic screech just is not stealthy in the slightest. And being able to turn your head all the way around can't really help anyone, except maybe scaring a bad guy.
Now no longer tired, his attention was focused entirely on the news. A man with rocket boots was addressing the crowd, calling himself a super. It was obvious to him that all of his "powers" were coming from gadgets; he wasn't really a super. Disappointed, he sulked back into his seat. The robot knocked him out and continued to rampage. Suddenly, there was a flash of red on the screen, then another, then a flash of blue. Could it truly be? Supers?! Real supers! But they were all in hiding, hero work was illegal, how could there be supers? Suddenly he felt like a kid again, watching superheroes on the news and wishing he could help people with his powers like that.
He got up and moved closer to the screen, getting a better look at the supers battling the robot. Two of them, actually, one, two, three... four of them had matching red outfits. Two of them were really small, were they... children? Were the four of them... a family? He had always felt alienated by his family; he was the only super out of all of them. He always figured the gene for superpowers must be recessive or something, and seeing these superpowered kids next to their superpowered parents solidified that for him.
The kids both looked younger than 15, so he figured they must have been born after superheroes were made illegal. It broke his heart to think about these children having to grow up hiding their powers, ashamed of them. He was a kid when they were made illegal but these kids would have been born into it, knowing no other life. But maybe, just maybe, it was all changing. After all, they were using their powers in public now, right?
The camera focused on the superhero in the blue and white suit using ice-based powers. He cocked his head and squinted; he knew he knew who that was, he just had to remember... His eyes blinked open and a big smile appeared on his face. Frozone! That superhero's name is Frozone! It's been so long since he saw any supers, he had nearly forgotten. How could he forget, Frozone was one of the classics! What about the other two adults? Were they classic superheroes too, from when he was a kid and they were always saving the day?
The man in red looked like a powerhouse, he obviously had super strength... Which supers had super strength? He immediately thought of Meta Man, but remembered he had died. Couldn't be him. Next he thought of Hypershock, but quickly dismissed that once he realized the man on the television didn't have a jetpack of any kind. That left just Mr. Incredible, but this guy didn't look like Mr. Incredible. At all. Mr. Incredible wore blue, not red! He leaned in close to the screen, so much that his eyes were starting to strain, to look at the man's face better. No, looking at his face, his big chin, his blond hair, the 'i' insignia on his chest... this was definitely Mr. Incredible. God, he's gotten fat! Good to know that even supers can let themselves go.
Lastly, he looked at the red headed woman in a matching outfit to Mr. Incredible's. One look at her super stretchy limbs and he immediately recognized her as Elastigirl. Oh, Elastigirl! People always thought he had crush on her as a kid, but really she was just his favorite. Regardless of his feelings, he had always considered her the gold standard of superheroes. She seemed so versatile, other supers had such specific powers, like fire, or ESP, or a sonic screech, but she could use hers anywhere, in any situation. Not to mention, she hardly ever caused any unnecessary destruction to her surroundings, or to other people. Now there is a woman who knows what she's doing!
He looked at her supersuit again, noticing the 'i' insignia on it, and how it is completely identical to the insignia on Mr. Incredible's suit. Did she marry Mr. Incredible? Were those kids hers? Theirs? It seemed somehow comforting to know that behind these superhero identities, they had normal lives; besides their powers, they were normal people. Like him. And it gave him hope that maybe someday this could be him. Helping people, being accepted. Being a superhero. Even just knowing that there were still indeed supers out there helped him to feel not so... alone. To not feel like he's the only super left. Like no one else remembers them. But now he knows there's at least five, or maybe six if you count that gadget guy from earlier, Syn-something... So yeah, at least five other supers, he nodded.
Elastigirl held the remote and started pressing the buttons on it, Frozone was trying to freeze the robot in its tracks, and Mr. Incredible must've thrown a discarded robot claw at it or something because it launched right through the robot and tore its power core out. Now that's how it's done! A smile spread across his face and he started clapping quietly at the television screen. He couldn't stop smiling as he thought that maybe, just maybe, superheroes are coming back. Maybe they'll be accepted again. Maybe he can be accepted again. And maybe he can make a difference in the lives of others.
He knew he would not be getting any sleep tonight, he was much too excited. He practically ran to his garage and grabbed some paper. He would be a superhero. He grabbed a pencil. He would help others. He started drawing. And he was going to look cool doing it. Half of the appeal of superheroes, besides, yknow, saving the day, was the costume! A superhero had to be a character, someone that others could idolize and look up to. What would his costume's theme be? Maybe something bird-like, birds had very screechy voices like him, not to mention he definitely had the nose for it. But what kind of bird? He cocked his head in thought, before it came to him. An owl! Owls can turn their heads around just like he can! Well, not just like he can. He can turn his head farther than an owl can, but they come the closest.
As he was designing the suit, he drew wings without thinking about it. Once he realized he had drawn them, he started to wonder if he could actually build them. It was one thing to make and sew a cool suit, but it would be an entirely different thing to actually build something mechanical from scratch like functional wings. He had studied robotics and engineering in college, so maybe he could figure it out... Yes, he would be able to build them, he wouldn't rest until he completely finished them. Well, he might have to rest at some point, but he would definitely be pulling a lot of all-nighters. Good thing he was a night owl.
----------
A couple weeks later, he put on his completed suit all together for the first time. He looked in the mirror, everything was perfect. It was exactly how he had imagined it on that first night, when his spirit had been reignited by seeing superheroes, real superheroes, out in public, saving the day. It was just like he remembered from when he was a kid. And now, he could be one of those superheroes that some other young supers might look up to someday, to look back fondly on when they become real superheroes too. He knew he could make a big difference, he just didn't know where to start.
He lived by himself, in a fairly small town without much crime. There was a big city about an hour's drive away, maybe thirty minutes as the owl flies, but he hadn't taken his new wings out for such a long flight yet and didn't know if they would be up for it. It seemed too risky, he probably needed to test them more. For the time being, he just sat on his couch and turned the television on.
Flipping through the channels, he once again happened upon breaking news involving superheroes. The footage showed the "Incredibles" family and Frozone battling against a large drill, apparently run by some villain called "The Underminer" or something. After they stopped the drill, Frozone quickly skated away and the "Incredibles" were arrested. It was a harsh reality check, remembering that despite the changing public opinion, superheroes were still very illegal.
A frown started to cross his face. He sighed and was about to take his cowl off when he heard a knock at the door. He doesn't usually get visitors, especially at this time of day, so he crept up to the door quietly and listened against it. He didn't hear anything, but a card was slid under the door. He kept listening for a minute, but after deciding there was no one there, he picked up the card and read it.
   "To whom it may concern,
It has come to our attention that you may have super powers. Do not be afraid, we are on your side. We would like to make supers like you legal again. We are sending this letter to several people who have been on our radar as potentially being supers, and this includes you. The superheroes aren't gone. You're still here. And together we can make a difference for supers everywhere. Please consider joining us. If you agree, you will be housed in the great city of New Urbem, considered by some to be like a superhero's playground. We will show you off to the public performing heroic deeds and raise the public opinion of superheroes, and maybe someday we can help restore the supers' legal statuses. But we can't do it without your help. Help us change the world. If you are interested or have any questions, please call the number on this card.
   Your new friend, Winston Deavor
   DevTech"
He stepped back, knees weak, and practically fell onto his couch. Him? Being a real superhero? For the first time since he was a kid it no longer seems like a far fetched dream, it no longer seems like a crazy fantasy, it seems like something real. Something that could happen, something that will happen. Hands shaking slightly, he turned over the card and found the phone number for DevTech listed on the back. His grip on the card tightened, as if he lets go then it may disappear forever. He felt like he might fall over, but he stood up anyway and made his way over to the phone. He dialed the number and waited for the other line to pick up. Heart racing, he just said five simple words.
   "This is Screech. I'm in."
