I’d mentioned Petra and Ascella don’t get along. Well, I think this will help explain. As well as raid a few questions. Enjoy! @ebevkisk
The Heretic and The Pariah
Marasenna was nervous. Usually, a dragon, especially one that had been around as long as she had never got nervous. Senna was the Purveyor of Nightmares, but still, what she was doing was ludicrous.
Ascella was a name that had been batted around by her partners, leaving them at an impasse for quite a long time. They were looking for someone to fill one last chair, but Petra, Aerin, and Lyria were all against it. Senna had stayed neutral, but had never seen venom spit from Petra’s mouth as much as she had when they talked about Ascella.
Senna continued to walk up the long stairway leading to the Olvara’s Pocket, the castle where she and the rest of Time’s Coven lived outside of the scrying eyes of those who lived in Cor Varias and any other plane that wished to do them harm. Ascella walked close behind, looking mildly intrigued. Marasenna wasn’t entirely surprised. Ascella was a full wizard. This place was practically a wizard's playground.
Senna stopped at the door. “Now, Ascella, I must remind you that this is merely an introduction. They also don’t exactly know you’re coming, so conduct yourself carefully. Also, know that very dangerous individuals live here. One you may know personally. You’re welcome to defend yourself if attacked, but if all goes well that won’t be necessary.”
Ascella dusted her combat skirt in a very proper way and gave a small curtsy. “I wish only to be an asset if not a friend. I will conduct myself as I see fit.”
Senna nodded. “That’s all I ask.” Senna then turned and, with her massive strength, opened the giant double doors to lead them inside.
Olvara’s Pocket was how you would imagine every other castle, but considering the wide amount of eccentrics that lived within, it had taken on a sporadic identity. Contraptions, artifacts, and magical items were scattered across the stone walls and perfectly cleaned rugs and tapestries were spread across the tile floors. For a castle, it was oddly warm and cozy to the touch, thanks to Olvara, the wizard who had lived here before.
As Senna walked towards the main war chamber, that anxiety crept back in as she heard talking. Ascella was admiring the walls, but Senna couldn’t read her face. Maybe it was the nerves.
As Senna entered the room, most of her companions were here minus two. Haley and Petra.
Emily stood. “Petra is not going to like this, Sen.”
Senna gulped. “I know, but this is the best way to know who we’re speaking about bringing her here.”
Ascella stepped forward. “I am Ascella Ylteryn, a wizard of the Astral Plane. I was told I could be of some use.”
Aerin and her muscular 6’5” frame stood from her chair. “That remains to be seen. Can you fight?”
Senna spoke up. “I can vouch for her combat personally. The paladin king is no more due to her actions and his grip on the plane was released.”
Verity cast a quick spell. “Do not resist.” Senna had seen these spells many times. Verity was assessing Ascella’s arsenal and skills. Detect Thoughts and Identify were Verity’s specialty.
Senna continued. “She seems a worthy fill. I just need to know…”
A quick flash and before Ascella could even Counterspell, she was suspended several feet in the air.
“Why have you brought her here?! I told you I will not work with this wretch while I’m still alive.”
Senna turned and Petra stood in the doorway, purple wings out and eyes blood red.
Ascella dispelled the magic and her eyes recognized her attacker. Dragging dark magic from the ground, Ascella threw a Horrid Wilting spell at Petra, drawing the water from the air around her.
Petra weathered it and drew her blade and Misty Stepped directly behind her and yelled “Stun!” and Senna watched as Ascella’s entire body froze in place.
As Petra breathed hard, she picked the wizard up and tossed her onto the war table. “Saves me the trouble of hunting you down myself, I guess.” As Petra moved to cast Power Word: Kill, Haley stood in the way. With an authority they never displayed, Haley stared down Petra. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?! I have never seen you act like this. Stand down.”
Senna looked into Petra’s eyes and saw a deep seated hatred burning within them. Petra sheathed her blade, but still stood ready to kill their guest.
“This person is a menace. Necromancers are a blight on society. I’ve said that. Their magic exists to destroy the living and enslave the dead. You think that she won’t use your corpse as a puppet after you die?!” Petra said, eyes slowly tearing up.
Senna stood by Haley. “You use Revivify, Raise Dead, and True Resurrection. What makes you different than her?”
Petra would not back down. “I use those to give people their lives back. So that they may live again and go on their way and I always ask first. This fiend cares only about the dead she can exploit for her own needs.”
“WRONG!”
Ascella stood and, with an aura of pure necrotic energy, slowly floated directly in front of the dragon and the artificer, right in front of Petra.
“You, dear girl, do not have a leg to stand on. The dead do not sleep. The dead do not speak. You think I command their wishes. I merely indulge them. Their wills are their own as they rise and that is the burden that I LIVE WITH. I only allow them to complete their final wishes. Everyone says I made them do it or I forced them to kill for my needs and I wish they would just stop. I do not “make them” do anything. Their twisted malevolent wishes rest in their own heads, not mine. The blame does not fall upon me or I would have rid myself of this guilt years ago. Or does the fabled Blood Cleric have something to say about bending the will of a being to their needs? I seem to remember that you have a tendency to reach in and take their will for yourself. Does the name Varrick DeGilles ring a bell, my dear blood witch?”
Ascella’s presence withered the very life out of the air and the only thing keeping the room alive was Petra’s aura of life and protection.
“The grave is sacred. I did what I had to to Varrick so I could protect those people. Necromancy is death magic and is a perversion of nature itself.”
Ascella snarled. “For a cleric of the goddess of Free Will and Time, your perspective is considerably narrow. Hemocraft could be considered a perversion as well and yet…”
Ascella grabbed Petra’s hand and exposed the massive amounts of scar tissue on her hand from all of the cuts she made.
“…You continue to desecrate your own flesh for the sake of miracles.”
Petra pulled her hand away. As Petra paused you could hear a pin drop as only the breaths of Time’s Coven echoed throu out the chamber.
A tear ran down Petra’s face. “Your room is in the upstairs tower. You have full access to the library. But one wrong move and I kill you where you stand.”
Ascella gave a sarcastic curtsy and vanished.
As the rest of the coven split to collect themselves, Senna looked back to see Petra, unmoving and shaken beyond words and in her eyes, there was a raging conflict brewing deep within her psyche that Marasenna had not seen in decades.

Muggle Studies Professor - Rainbow Fire
Tadashi’s second year teaching at Hogwarts, this time his topic is about fire.
FFN I Ao3
Tumblr media
----
The implementation of having Muggle Studies as a mandatory subject in Hogwarts was a huge success, at least in Tadashi's opinion. He was able to convince the school's headmistress to construct a structure a few paces outside of Hogsmeade where he could demonstrate the efficiency of muggle technology without them breaking down because of magic.
While Tadashi was loathed to do it, he had no choice but to employ the use of house-elves to complete the structure at the end of the school year after they started building the three-storey building, each floor built with rooms where he can showcase muggle technology and sciences to the students of Hogwarts in a safe and controlled environment.
Without magic ruining it all.
The only magical thing within the building was the fireplace, where Tadashi can transport his students to and from the building.
It was his second year teaching at Hogwarts, his students now were first-year Ravenclaws and Syltherins. This should be fun.
"Can someone tell me what colors fires have?" Tadashi asked his class.
"Pshh, that's easy, it's orange," A Slytherin scoffed. "My parents saw no reason why muggle studies as a subject was made mandatory for the students of Hogwarts."
"Incendio"
At the tip of Tadashi's wand showed a green flame, dancing in the wind.
This caught the attention of most of the class, even the Slytherin student that had scoffed earlier.
"Then class, what is the color of the flame you see?" Tadashi questioned the class.
"How!" A Ravenclaw student exclaimed. "There should be no such thing as green flames."
"Are you sure about that, Fronsac?" Tadashi raised an eyebrow.
"I do not know you did it sir, but there should be no such thing as green flames."
"Let's test theory, shall we?"
Tadashi transfigured seven branches into seven small silverwares that contain nothing in them. He then pointed his wand at each of those containers and lit them with different-colored flames, the colors of the rainbow.
"You must have used the confundus charm on us, sir." A cheeky Slytherin offered.
It was fortunate that the class was an hour-long, as he can regale these students, mostly ignorant of the advancement of science as a field. It was really lucky when a colleague passed by his classroom.
"Professor Fawcett," Tadashi called out. "Can I invite you to my class for a bit?"
"Sure thing, Professor Hamada."
"My students are claiming that I had charmed the classroom, or them for that matter, with a confundus charm," Tadashi explained. "Surprisingly, my first-year Ravenclaw class only has five muggle-borns with them; with all of them in the infirmary because of the food poisoning debacle last week and the half-bloods with them were largely raised in Wizarding society."
"I can see where this is going, Professor Hamada." Professor Fawcett smiled. "How can I be of assistance?"
"Cast a counterspell on the room, if you please."
"Surely."
"Finite Incantatem."
Professor Fawcett raised her wand pointed it at the room's ceiling and supposedly dispelled the confundus charm the Muggle Studies professor supposedly placed on the room. The counter-spell also exploded at the ceiling and showered the students of the same effects of the counter-spell.
"Now class, do you still see seven different colored flames?"
"How?!"
"Professor Fawcett, do you see seven different colored flames on the table?"
"Why yes, Professor Hamada, I do." Professor Fawcett nodded. "In fact, I see that all the colors of the rainbow are perfectly represented."
"Thank you, Professor Fawcett."
"Well, if that's all, Professor Hamada, I'll be on my way."
"Thank you for your assistance, Professor."
"Anytime."
Tadashi faced his students as he let them process what was happening.
"How?" Another Ravenclaw bravely asked.
"Well, Hilliard, you see different things burn differently," Tadashi answered. "Take for instance, this branch," The professor produced another tree branch from his person and placed it on the table. "They burn differently."
"Incendio"
The branch caught fire and produced a yellow-orange hue.
"As we can see, the common colors we see on fire are blue, orange, and red," Tadashi enumerated.
"Blue?"
"Look at the bottom of the fire." Tadashi gestured towards the flaming branch. "Isn't that the color blue?"
"Yes." The students nodded.
"If we burn something else, like say the powder we use to clean really dirty things, we'll get green flames," Tadashi explained. "If we burn one part of a battery we get a really red flame."
"But how did you change the fire's colors." A Ravenclaw asked curiously.
"We'll get there, but first I need to emphasize to you students about combustibility and flammability." Tadashi silently put out the fire on the branch. "Before we proceed with coloring our flames."
"Flammability?"
"It's whether how easy something catches fire."
"Just like the branch!"
"Correct!" Tadashi nodded. "However, there are more dangerous things in this world that are more flammable, and are therefore very dangerous to expose to fire, even one's that are miles away."
"That's absurd."
"Well then, let's go outside and see."
--------
"Okay class, observe."
Tadashi brought his students to the edge of the lake. He transfigured a few boulders into couches and big chairs for his students to sit unto.
"Ventus"
Suddenly a putrid smell invaded everyone's noses and made attempts to at least lessen the effects of the odor on to their noses.
A breeze of air began to rise, relieving the students of the disgusting smell.
"Incendio"
As soon as Tadashi's spell was cast, the space above the Black Lake seemingly exploded and caused a large boom, startling everyone within Hogwarts.
"Professor Hamada! What was that?!"
The headmistress jumped down from her office, without a care whether it was dignified to just jump down from her window.
"It was a demonstration, Headmistress," Tadashi explained. "One of the many dangers if us Wizarding folk are to remain unaware of muggle society and their advancements."
"I… is that so?"
"That, class, is what will happen if you cast any spell that's related to fire in any way shape or form near anything flammable," Tadashi explained to his class. "While muggle society can find an explanation for such an event, like gas leaks and the like, saving us the headache from a violation of the statute of secrecy.
It is, however, life-threatening, to tolerate such ignorance of muggle society, as what we have just witnessed."
Everyone was shocked.
The headmistress and Professor Hamada's fellow teachers had been given an explanation and a small demonstration on the dangers of wizarding folk being largely ignorant of muggle society. It was still different seeing anything on the same scale as the explosion that happened above the Black Lake.
"Now, I want everyone to go back to the room and wait for me, Higgins, you are in charge."
Tadashi's students returned to their classroom, still processing what they had just witnessed.
"I'm sorry for such an explosive demonstration, headmistress." Tadashi bowed in apology.
"Is this how you managed to make flames in different colors, Professor Hamada?" Professor Fawcett asked.
"Yes." Tadashi nodded. "I simply think of the product that would be burning when I cast the fire-making charm and we have a differently colored flame as if it was burning the product I thought of."
"You summoned a highly flammable gas with the wind-making charm, didn't you?" Another professor deduced. "You did not expect to have a high concentration of those gases above the Black Lake."
"That's essentially what happened." Tadashi nodded.
"I have to admit, I hadn't thought of thinking of something other than the intended effect when I cast my spell." The same Professor hummed. "Although, achieving such a feat would only be possible if we are knowledgeable in muggle sciences as you are, Professor Hamada."
"I'm afraid so."
"Well then, with that sorted out, I implore everyone to go back to their classrooms and continue your classes." The headmistress ordered.

the next game in this series is 64 vs CipherBot. This is a game without very strict rules, they both cast spells at eachother and if it's not too powerful they get to cast it, and if it's too powerful they lose that turn.
first, CipherBot goes with arcane barrier, blocking 64's arcane bolt and deflecting it. I rolled for the deflection and got 13, meaning CipherBot failed to deflect it back into 64.
Next, CipherBot cast tempest winds and 64 cast chain lightning. CipherBot's description of it flinging 64 around was too powerful, as there's no way to avoid the wind, so I vetoed it. 64's chain lightning connected and hit Cipher Bot.
next, they both tried to cast frost nova, so I counted that as a counterspell.
then, CipherBot cast ethereal echoes to create lllusions of itself and make it harder to hit the real one. It didn't matter, as 64 went for flamestrike, trying to engulph CipherBot in a fiery explosion. I interpret that as being a melee strike that creates an explosion, which is too fast for the power.
CipherBot cast Mystic Missiles, which hits as 64 went for detect magic, allowing it to find out which CipherBot is real.
Now knowing which one is real, 64 attempts to use arcane barrage, but CipherBot dodges it with shadowstep, teleporting right behind 64.
64 tries to copy CipherBot's illusions, but CipherBot is close enough to keep track of the real 64. CipherBot casts mindflame, creating disorienting illusions for 64.
64 attempts to cast time stop to freeze CipherBot in time temporarily, but that's too powerful normally, and with the disorienting illusions they can't cast as powerful spells as they normally can. CipherBot casts mystic surge, but since they're like a foot away from eachother they're both hit and brought down to 3/5 HP
CipherBot casts arcane tether, linking them and 64 together, which works out perfectly as 64 casts arcane whirlwind, flinging them both around and bringing them both down to 2/5 HP(I know I didn't allow a similar move earlier, in this context it's fair)
CipherBot uses elemental imbalance, a move that's just too unique to disallow. This makes 64's spells more likely to misfire. Sadly for CipherBot and me 64 cast dispel magic, thinking it would get rid of the arcane tether, but the tether and whirlwind both only last one turn, but correcting chatgpt usually just makes things worse so I went with it. I rolled the die, and it got a fucking 3. 64 misfires, and casts restore magic, meaning the field will last an extra turn
64 tries to cast arcane shield, but they rolled a 9 so it misfires into arcane burst, which would damage CipherBot but they cast shadow aegis, defending them from the burst.
64 casts mystic ward, which succeeds now that the field has dissipated. They are now more resistant to damage. CipherBot's arcane grasp is too powerful, especially considering the powerful moves they've recently cast.
64 casts arcane sanctuary, blocking CipherBot's disruption beam
CipherBot casts astral projection, creating an illusion of themself, which is immediately dispelled by 64 who apparently thinks CipherBot has enhanced abilities, and tried to target that as well as their powerful spells, even though they don't have any active to 64's knowledge and it can't dispel uncast spells.
CipherBot casts arcane bolt as 64 casts arcane surge, both are direct attacks, and arcane surge is more powerful while still being allowed so it destroys the arcane bolt and hits CipherBot, bringing them down to 1/5HP. It took so long for either of them to hit the other again.
CipherBot tries to distort reality around 64, which would be far too powerful even if they had some kind of magical buff, but they don't. 64 goes for a much more tame move of arcane vortex, which I normally wouldn't allow but compared to altering reality it's fucking nothing, so it passes, bringing CipherBot down to 0/5 HP and winning the game for 64.

how to bully a beholder (or maybe not)
Beholders! Iconic, iconic. Let's surgically remove their will to live.
The key is that almost all their offensive potential comes from their Eye Rays - but they can only blast targets they can see. Therefore, naively speaking, a simple cast of, for example, Blindness while outside their Antimagic Cone would almost cripple them, leaving them only with a pathetic Bite attack. Made at disadvantage, to boot.
This just works.* Beholders actually aren't immune to the Blinded condition, nor do they have access to Truesight or Blindsight or Tremorsense, despite their much-vaunted multiplicity of eyes. The moral in this case is clearly quality over quantity.
Blindness isn't perfect, however; your victim gets a save on cast, and then more saves every turn thereafter, giving them a lot of opportunities to break out of it. Beholders actually don't have as unfairly good Con saves as you might expect, so Blindness isn't even that bad, but nevertheless we might want something better.
Enter Fog Cloud.
Fog Cloud is, like all the best battlefield control, saveless. You cast it and the world is just heavily obscured now, impossible to see into, and there's nothing your enemies can do about it. (unless they have Counterspell, or Dispel Magic, or break your concentration, but shh).
'But wait,' I hear you say. 'What about Antimagic? Shouldn't the Antimagic Cone cut right through it?'
Indeed, the Antimagic suppresses the Fog Cloud wherever it overlaps; but critically it does not dispel the spell altogether. The only effect is to give the Beholder a small region in which it can see, but which separately suppresses its own Eye Rays. In fact, this can work to your advantage: martial characters can take advantage of the convenient break in the fog to get right up to the Beholder and smash them in the face while they can see.
It's worth noting the Beholder can, unfortunately, simply fly out of the AOE; therefore it's definitely worth upcasting Fog Cloud for a larger AOE, or using alternatives like Darkness (you can pick it up and move it) and Sleet Storm (an enormous area of effect). Still, it's very fun that a 1st level spell almost perfectly counters a Beholder for at least one round.*
(Bonus points for convincing a party member to just grapple the beholder; they are really not especially strong.)
Tumblr media
*Time to get really cursed.
Unfortunately, there is one problem with all that I have outlined above. It is technical, incredibly obscure and in its full glory has significant effects on how Beholder encounters go.
It goes like this: a Beholder's Antimagic Cone is an effect whose area of effect is a cone (shocker). But the rules for areas of effect actually state that 'A cone's point of origin is not included in the cone's area of effect, unless you decide otherwise.'
Therefore, a Beholder can choose to include themselves in their own Antimagic Cone - and so completely suppress every magical effect that would target their space.
So, whether or not a Beholder actually has you in its Cone, it is immune to whatever magic you want to throw at it so long as it has its Cone up at all, and knows the rules well enough to include itself.
Blindness? Yup. Hunger of Hadar. Yup. Spirit Guardians? Hypnotic Pattern? Yes and yeah. They still won't be able to target things in heavy obscurement or darkness, but RAW Beholders are literally just immune to Fireball as far as I can tell. Sweet dreams.

it is so narratively satisfying that for all his self-aggrandisement and hubris, all his attempts at psyching caleb out and his talk about failure and discipline, trent gets his ass wholly handed to him by the nein, who have all this time been trying to tell him he wasn’t even a factor in their plans. his presence doesn’t even come close to lucien in that fight, which lasted, what, all of three turns? the man was so blinded by his own delusions of control he couldn’t see how tiny he’d become in the scale of things. villain degradation at its finest.

Building Itachi Uchiha in DnD 5e (2021)
Tumblr media
I’ve built Itachi a few times, and I finally realized the reason why. The only realistic way to build Itachi in DnD would require more than the level 20 build cap. Itachi has the high level spells of a powerful Wizard, the slippery evasiveness of an experienced Rogue, and the composed discipline of a master Monk. There’s no way to perfectly fit all of his abilities within a measly 20 levels. So, with Itachi, we have to pick our battles. So, I’m going to offer two possible builds that stay within the level 20 cap, each of which sacrifices one thing in favor of another.
Tumblr media
Itachi is a Human, but he’s also an Anime Character. Anime characters are cooler and stronger than normal people, so we’ll say he’s a Variant Human. Variant Humans get +1 to two ability scores, and we’ll give Itachi +1 INT, +1 DEX. He also gets the Perception skill, as well as a free Feat. Alert adds +5 to Itachi’s initiative, making Itachi a quickdraw in combat, he can’t be surprised while he’s conscious, and enemies can’t hide from his eyes.
For his background, Itachi is a rogue ninja, and a wanted criminal. He’s part of the Akatsuki, which is a group of other, equally dangerous wanted criminals. It’s safe to say that Itachi would be a Criminal for proficiency in Deception and Stealth.
For his alignment, Itachi is willing to go to very extreme lengths of evil in pursuit of ultimate good, landing somewhere between Chaotic Good and Lawful Evil.
Tumblr media
WIZARD SCHOOL OF DIVINATION
As tempting as it would be to make Itachi an Illusion Wizard, Divination is better suited to Itachi’s all-seeing Sharingan eyes. With his Portents, high rolls can ensure successes, while low rolls can be used to avoid incoming attacks or spells. Illusion could work, as the Illusory Reality is a good stand-in for the Infinite Tsukuyomi, and Itachi is a master illusionist. But, Itachi himself never masters the Infinite Tsukuyomi while he’s alive. So, it wouldn’t be in-character to give him this ability in DnD.
You could take a 1 level dip into Rogue if you so choose for Itachi. He’d gain the Acrobatics skill from the Rogue skill list, along with Expertise in two skills, I’d go with Insight and Perception so that his senses can’t be fooled.

ROGUE ARCANE TRICKSTER
The main reason this one isn’t a perfect fit is the low spell levels and slow grind to learn new spells. While it does let Itachi be a Rogue with some magic, it’s nowhere near as magically powerful as Itachi is as a pure Wizard. But the added evasiveness of the Rogue should hopefully make up for the loss of magical power. The Arcane Trickster can also steal the opponent’s spells for themselves, something the Sharingan is known to do.

Uncanny Dodge: As a reaction, reduce damage from a foe you can see by half. Versatile Trickster: You have advantage against a creature within 5 feet of your Mage Hand.
Tumblr media
Ultimately, which build you favor depends on what you see as more in-character for Itachi. The Wizard build makes Itachi a master of powerful ninjutsu and genjutsu, while the Rogue makes Itachi far more limited in his powers, but more slippery and elusive. One benefit Itachi has over most rogues is that with his Versatile Trickster ability, he can gain advantage even in a 1v1 encounter, something most rogues lack. So, even in a head-to-head fight, he can still get off his sneak attack damage. While Disintegrate doesn’t deal fire damage, the spell is a nice parallel to Amaterasu, as it can burn through most protective barrier spells. With his Spell Mastery, Itachi can always have mirror images on the field, giving him a little more breathing room despite his low health.

One last time, y’all. This campaign and these characters have meant so much to me, and this seven hour finale was definitely an emotional rollercoaster. (Yes, I shed actual tears at one point, which rarely happens to me with media. But this is a special occasion.) These liveblogs are nearly as long as the episode itself, so grab a snack! With that being said, here are my very last liveblogs for Campaign 2 of Critical Role. As always, major spoilers below, so beware.
Tumblr media
- Veth taking a level in Wizard, god I am really gonna cry ten minutes into this thing...  😭
- We got our first “stay with us” to Essek, I am emo...
- I was fully not expecting to say goodbye to Frumpkin, but now I’m on the verge of tears... farewell dear fey friend (Marisha saying “that wasn’t supposed to be what broke me” me too me too)
- “You’re a good person.” “I could be.” “You are.”
- “I think you’re a good person” I never thought that I’d hear Beau say that about Essek and this genuinely might be what breaks me... she thinks he’s a good person.... redemption is possible.... maybe love is real....
- If I end up crying over wizards, look away
- Jester lifting up Fjord’s arm to snuggle beneath it made me say “awww” out loud  🥺
- VETH GOING FOR A DIP IN THE POND, I AM GENUINELY SO PROUD OF HER
- “Aahhh!! It’s me! Your wife!” I am going to miss Jester’s sending so much
- Okay that accent bit was so funny, I am going to miss all of them so much
- REAL MOLLY IS BACK REAL MOLLY IS BACK REAL MOLLY IS BACK
- Oh but he doesn’t remember them... and Yasha is trying so hard to help him remember, it’s so so sweet
- Something about the way he said “Tealeaf’s nice” made me tear up... I was neutral on Mollymauk early campaign because I went into things knowing that he passed away, but this whole conversation with the Mighty Nein is So Much. Also “Kingsley Tealeaf”
- “Everyone should have a brother” as someone with three of them, I vouch for this  🥺
- a) I love Marion Lavorre (and Jester ofc!) so very much and b) I can’t believe that Jester’s parent trap actually worked??
- “I do not think Exandria is ready for how you’re going to change it” got to me... and it’s also so true. jester has already changed the world just by being kind.
- Good bye Marion... I love and will miss you so much! (And many thanks to Laura and Matt for creating an agoraphic single mother who raised a wonderful child <3)
- Beau and Jester teasing Marion for having a complicated relationship with Babenon reminds me of Caleb saying he has a complicated relationship with Essek...
- LEAVE CALEB ALON E FUOIKJLKGKNL
- THIS IS ....... SO MUCH WORSE THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE.
- Caleb’s biggest trauma(s) coming back to haunt him, I am genuinely going to cry I’m not ready for this I’m not okay
- Beau saying to Jester “Thanks, cutie” I love themmmmm
- INITIATIVE AAGJASKHDKJ AAAAAHHHH
- Essek’s Gravity Sinkhole did nothing? uhhhhh Mr Stark...
- EADWULF???? HELLO?????
- Essek using his entire turn to save Caleb last battle 🤝 Caleb using his entire turn to save Essek this battle
- ASTRID???? I TRUSTED YOU??? WE ALL TRUSTED YOU????
- Another Counterspell chain sdfdghjkdl wizards !!!
- “It’s just business” is literally the Neutral Evil line, it always gives me chills when any character says it
- This hurts more after Liam confirming on Twitter that Astrid/Caleb/Eadwulf were all three a romantic item... please stop hurting Caleb, you loved him  😭
- THE FJORD VS EADWULF SWORD FIGHT IS SO CINEMATIC I LOVE IT HERE ACTUALLY
- Essek taking every opportunity to pull Caleb to safety makes me so emotional...  😭
- “You’re not the first student I’ve had to put down” I am burning with my anger for you, old man
- THE DISPEL WORKED LET’S GO CALEB.....
- Remember when Matt said that Essek doesn’t openly show concern/emotion? And now he’s saying “I’m scared” in front of his closest friends and his worst enemies.... growth my love.....
- BEAU AND VETH LETS GO CHAOS CREW LETS MF GO BABEYYYY!!!
- FJORD COUNTERSPELLING THE DIMENSION DOOR..... and Matt having him describe it.... is this taking the place of a “HDYWTDT” *eyes emoji*
- CALEB GOING DOWN NO, THANK GOD FOR THAT DEATH WARD
- Veth’s illusion of Caleb’s parents flanking Caleb in the flames.... that got me too, Liam
- “Stay down.” yeah, okay, that was sexy
- ASTRID BEING THE ONE TO ACTIVATE THE COLLAR IS LITERALLY POETIC JUSTICE... Trent being beaten by the student who stuck with him longest I love this so much, she deserved that moment honestly
- Break Time, AKA Emma Makes Her Weekly Mug Brownie Interlude
- Sometimes I feel like “death is too good for you” is a copout, but in this case it fits so well, I want this mf’s reputation destroyed and the entire operation exposed and overthrown let’s goooo
- “I loved you both so much”.... Astrid and Eadwulf walking away.... oh, Blumendrei... I know this is not the end of your story. What’s past is prologue, loves
- The Empire Siblings are gonna burn down the whole system because it’s the system that enables individual corruption... I am so fulfilled by this, god i love them
- “I love you too” OH MY GOD I LOVE THEM SO MUCH, FJORESTER ARE THE CUTEST FOR REAL
- Jester and Essek’s friendship still means so much to me btw just in case anyone wanted a check-in
- Veth giving the flask to Kingsley!! Good for her, good for her!
- OH Blumenduo are back already! I truly thought that was going to be their last appearance of the Campaign, why is this taking me more by surprise than Trent’s appearance
- “[Caleb] notes how similar Eadwulf and Fjord are” this is Widofjord adjacent... this episode we have gotten Widomauk-adjacent, Widojest-adjacent, and Widofjord-adjacent (and Blumentrio ofc), now come through Shadowgast and we can get a full Bingo on the “Bisexual Maelstrom” card
- Speaking of relationships, I am lowkey into the Fjord/Jester/Kingsley dynamic LOL no one look at me I’m in hiding
- I’M NOT READY TO SAY GOODBYE TO VETH AND CAD 😭 It makes sense and the fact that they have their families back is beautiful but also consider this: I’m sad and I will miss them
- The goodbyes to Caduceus..... I am going to cry aren’t I?
- “If he’s anything like his mom, you won’t see him until it’s too late” Okay that made me giggle, I love Veth and I love Luc and I love their little family
- IS ESSEK LEAVING TOO? THAT’S GONNA BE WHAT BREAKS ME ISN’T IT
- If Essek leaves and we never see him again, getting a triple whammy of goodbyes I will be so incredibly sad, I cannot do this  😭
- If anyone is interested, no I am not doing well
- I was lowkey ready to get an Essek’s feelings for Caleb confirmation tonight, I guess it makes sense that we didn’t but I hope that this is not the last time we see Essek... I want to write another emo post about him and about how much he means to me but I will refrain
- CALEB BEING A TEACHER IS THE ENDGAME I WANT FOR HIM PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
- Wow, I really was not ready to see Caduceus and Essek go for some reason... I really wanted this Campaign to end on the image of the Mighty Nein together as all nine of them... I’m feeling so numb right now having to say goodbye  😭
- Oh, we’re in the epilogue now!
- When Fjord said “[the sea] is my favorite place to be” I genuinely felt that on a spiritual level... the ocean is home, it truly is and always will be for me as well
- “I CAST MODIFY MEMORY” FJORD LMAOOOOOOO
- Okay, that Widobrave ending is what made me shed tears for the first time this episode... not to be Personal but my biological brother graduates High School tomorrow, and for some reason this conversation just reminded me so much of me and him and now I’m emotional
- NOT THE SYPHILIS BANDITS DSYUHDFJKLSFJ;DS OKAY I NEEDED THAT LAUGH
- “I’d like to hear about your friend” Kingsley aww
- Beau giving Kingsley her first diary to help him realize who they all are is actually so perfectly fitting, I love that!
- “The other eight and I, yes” Caleb counting all nine of them again  😭
- CALEB BEING OFFERED AN ASSEMBLY SEAT WTF AAAHHH
- Oh shit, Astrid took the Assembly seat... I’m not sure how I feel about this, I feel so bad for her for having to stay in the system that abused her for so long and I would have loved to see her burn the whole thing down, but I hope that she at least has a sense of contentment with this title
- “I go where you go, baby” Beauyasha.... my darling loves....
- Beau’s dad??? But also Beau being the one with power over her father is so Good, I’m glad that she got justice on that front as well!
- This talk with Artagan... “I didn’t want you to be a god. I wanted you to be my friend.” and in the process my love you created divinity... maybe divinity is the friends we made along the way
- OH SHIT WE ARE GETTING ALL THE VANDRAN LORE TONIGHT I’M READY LET’S GO LET’S GO
- VANDRAN AND AVANTIKA WERE AN ITEM???
- Wait crack theory: Sabian was a half elf right? Could he be the son of Vandren and Avantika? Or is that too much of a stretch?
- Vandran going with them!!! Also I feel like that moment between Fjord and Vandran was lowkey a tease to a post-campain Uk’otoa one shot and I am ready for it already
- THIS BEAUYASHA MOMENT... “i’ve never known anyone as deeply as i know you” & “explore every bit of you in multiple ways ;)” & “your past doesn’t scare me, it only makes you beautiful” .... this is so much they are so much i love them so much
- “I will have you and then some” Beauyasha   😭
- I’m torn between “oh my god there’s still half an hour left?” and “how is there only half an hour left??”
- “You will let this Skyspear live at least?” oh my god so Yasha killed the last Skyspear then? Oof...
- YASHA GIVING ZUALA(’S GRAVE) THE BOOK OF FLOWERS, OH DEAR HEART
- And Beau’s talk to Zuala about being the luckiest woman alive and sacrifice.... 😭
- PLANTING FLOWERS AT ZUALA’S GRAVE... “NO BETTER GRAVE MARKER” THIS IS MAKING ME SO EMOTIONAL, I KNOW I’VE SAID THIS A LOT THIS EPISODE BUT THIS TRULY IS SO BEAUTIFUL
- So... I may or may not be crying again
- Shadowgast with a steel chair??
- Caleb’s plan for saving his parents... it’s clear he has thought of this so much, oh my darling love  😭
- Caleb burning down his chance to change his past is so symbolic and something he really needed to do, it does make me emotional though
- The other book was him writing to his parents?? Oh bby boy  😭
- While I would have loved for Caleb to open his own magic school (especially with Essek, or the Mighty Nein, or someone else as well), I am so pleased that he stays with Veth and that their friendship continues for the rest of their life because again: they mean so so much to me, and in a way they remind me of me and my biological brother (which I never realized before this episode) and yeah. They just make me Emo
- Also. Caleb being a professor was my Number One Endgame Hope for him and the fact that it came true is just so surreal in the best way possible. I’m so used to being robbed of happy endings. The fact that the Mighty Nein all got theirs makes me incredibly happy. A story does not have to be sad to be impactful. Happy stories and happy endings, especially during a time period of tumultuous real life circumstances, have just as much value and meaning and they always will. Caleb is teaching the next generation magic, and he is teaching them to be Good, and he is nurturing them, and that just means so much
- MATT CRYING IS GONNA GET TO ME
- “Let’s do it again” Please, let’s.
- Okay, everyone. I made it all seven hours in one piece with surprisingly minimal tears (though who knows, this might all sink in tomorrow.) I already wrote my thoughts earlier today about how much the Mighty Nein mean to me and how much this show and these characters have kept me holding on during quarantine and today... I’m still not ready to let them go, but I know that I can always revisit to say hello and to say thank you for changing me. Until then though... I love you all more than you could ever know. And for the last time of Campaign 2... is it Thursday yet?
Good night 💗

A New Version of the Tollomancy Wizard Subclass...
I guess you could consider this a Version 0.1 of the Subclass? I mean last time was just me with a list of notes and ideas...
But here’s what I think could be a sorts-semi-but-not-entirely-finished version of the Tollomancy Wizard.
Warning: I may ramble in this post, I apologize in advance...
Also big shout-out to @sladvlactia on tumblr for writing up some great ideas for the Subclass, you are an arcane godsend!
Arcane Disruption
You learn the Counterspell and Dispel Magic Spells, these Spells are always Prepared and do not count towards your Number of Wizard Spells Known.
I can see Arcane Disruption coming in at about 6th level, since both Counterspell and Dispel Magic are 3rd-Level Spells and you're learning two very useful spells for free, and they don't go against the number of Wizard Spells you know, and you'll always have them prepared...
Spell Skew
You’ve studied the basic rulings of magic to such an extent that you are able to influence the careless casting of others.
As a Reaction to a Hostile Creature you can see casting a Spell that targets a single Creature, you can choose to make a contested roll against the Target's Spell Save DC.
If successful, you change the Target of the Spell to another Creature you can see. You can only use this Ability once per round.
This I LOVE! It's a great low-level (probably 2nd level) ability that's both incredibly useful while also being incredibly versatile, since a lot of monsters have innate spellcasting.
But remember that you have to see the person casting the spell, since if you can't see what they're casting, then how will you know how to perfectly counter it?
And making it target a single creature was sorta my own idea (with a bit of help from @sladvlactia), since while there are a lot of very damaging spells that effect a number of targets (looking at you, Fireball), there are a lot of very powerful spells from low to high tier that effect just one target...
Be it a Hold Person that you can skew to hold a Creature in place before it attacks, or maybe you wanna skew that Feeblemind Spell so it targets a different Creature...
Maybe in a future edit it'll change to work on all Spells, or maybe this Ability has a limited number of uses per rest and maybe that contested roll is based off of your Intelligence or maybe your Arcana Skill, but right now I like the wording of it and I just love how useful this could be in combat, and maybe even out of combat too...
Shatter Phantasm
You’ve learned to recognize the Schools of Magic based on their Verbal, Somatic or Material Components. As such, you have learned to recognize Illusion Spells quickly.
As a bonus action, you can give a Number of Creatures that can see and hear you the ability to see through Magical Illusions, such as those created by a Minor Illusion, Disguise Self, or a Silent Image Spell.
You and your allies recognize any Illusory Objects, Creatures, Duplicates and Disguises created by Spells or any other Magical Effects.
The Number of Creatures you can choose to gain these benefits is equal to your Intelligence Modifier.
This I like, though I do still have a tingling feeling that this may still need to be edited because of the great variety of effects that Illusion Spells create.
So we may need to take another look at this one, but for now, I like it!
Consume Enchantment
Once per day, you can end any one condition or magical effect that is affecting you or any other creature you can see. This condition or effect must be brought on from a Spell or Magical Ability.
Doing so will replenish any expended spell slots. These spell slots can have a combined level that is equal to or less than the spell level consumed, and none of the slots can be 6th level or higher.
So yeah, this might not have any fancy flavor text, but I love the description @sladvlactia put it in their post for this one: "You don’t rest and meditate to regain spell-slots. You just yank them away from other wizards."
That is what I love to see, they took a relatively useful but not always crucial ability (Arcane Recovery), and graphed a Subclass Feature onto that ability to make it more useful and versatile in the game.
Again though, we need to take warning, since some Magical Effects in 5e don't have a Spell Level associated with them.
Maybe just consuming a Magical Effect in general could give you back your Lowest Level Expended Spell Slot? What do you think?
Devastating Reprisal
Your knowledge of basic casting is enough to snarl the arcane energy around your target.
On a successful Counterspell or Spell Skew attempt, you can expend One Additional Spell Slot of 1st Level or Higher to break the Caster’s Ability to Cast Spells or use Magic Items until the end of your next turn.
Just like @sladvlactia said it in their post, this Ability probably works very similar to a Monk's Stunning Strike, and also means that the spellcasting bad guy no longer has any benefits from any magical items they have…
So use this on a Spellcaster that has something like a Headband of Intellect or a Staff of the Magi, and then suddenly they're not so much of a threat.
I think that shortening down this ability and basing it off of the Monk's Stunning Strike and how that works in Combat, this Ability might just be the right amount of fun and just useful enough to care about...
Wardbreaker
At _____th Level, you can quickly learn your target's spellcasting techniques, using this knowledge to bypass their personal defenses.
Whenever you make a Spell Attack that targets a single Creature that you have targeted before, that Spell ignores the Armor Class bonuses given by Spells such as Mage Armor and Shield.
I can see this ability coming in probably mid-to-late in the game, maybe 6th or 10th level, it's a great ability that let's the Wizard bypass those awkward Spells that mean the Wizard ends up missing on that crucial attack.
Trust me, there is no feeling worse than hitting (or even critting!) on an attack, only for it to be ripped away because the bad guy casts Shield at the last second and now their AC is suddenly 30 Billion and your attack misses and does absolutely no damage at all...
Fray The Weave
Whenever you successfully skew a Spell, you become charged with residual, untethered arcane energy for a short time.
Until the end of your next turn, you can expend this energy instinctively to cast Counterspell (3rd-Level Version) without using your Reaction to do so.
If you do not expend this use of arcane energy before the end of your next turn, you take Xd10 Psychic Damage, where X is the Spell Level of the Spell you skewed, as the residual arcane energy burns away from your body.
While there may not be a bunch of flavor text for this ability, I still love it!
It brings that Risk VS Reward to the Subclass that makes it interesting. And the ability to not only skew another spellcaster’s spell to make it target someone else, but then also Counterspell using your normal Reaction, and then Counterspell AGAIN all in the same turn...
Now that's just cool...
I'm imagining this coming in at Level 14 as the final Feature from this Subclass, and I think it'll make it really interesting to use at higher-tier play.
Maybe this needs another run through? Because maybe your Tollomancer won't get the chance to Counterspell before the end of their next turn, and so they'll have to take the damage...
But this is probably just me randomly nitpicking... I'll let you people be the judges...
Also, as a note, I think the Feedback so far has been great, the Community has been so nice in their suggestions, and I’ve even got messages from people asking if they can use the Subclass when it’s finished, and some people are even creating their own home brew spells just for the Tollomancer.
It’s great to see so much enthusiasm in this little project of mine, and I hope it’ll continue until we get a fully fleshed out, balanced, well-worded and above all cool subclass that you can use in your own games.
So if you have any feedback, or have any ideas for how these class features and abilities are gonna work, or if you have any ideas for flavor text or how to word all the mechanics, features and abilities so they make sense, let me know!
