HOW FAST DOES THE EARTH SPIN??
Blog#331
Wednesday, September 13th, 2023
Welcome back,
To answer the question of how fast Earth spins, you need to know two things: how long it takes to make a full rotation, and Earth’s circumference. The time it takes Earth to rotate so the sun appears in the same position in the sky, known as a solar day, is 24 hours. However, the time it takes Earth to complete one full rotation on its axis with respect to distant stars is actually 23 hours 56 minutes 4.091 seconds, known as a sidereal day.
Tumblr media
With this information, to work out how fast Earth is spinning we need only our planet’s circumference. At the equator, its circumference is roughly 40,075 kilometres, so dividing this by the length of day means that, at the equator, Earth spins at about 1670 kilometres per hour.
Tumblr media
However, this speed of rotation isn’t consistent across the planet. As you move north or south, the circumference of Earth gets smaller, so the speed of spin reduces until it reaches its slowest at both poles. And all of this is nothing compared with the 107,000 kilometres per hour at which Earth orbits the sun.
If we are travelling so fast through space, why can’t we feel it?
Tumblr media
Simply put, as Earth is spinning at a constant speed, so does everything on it. Travelling at the same speed means we cannot feel the spin. It is like driving a car. Even though you are moving, you aren’t aware of speed because it is constant. Only when you change speeds do you notice you are travelling, like putting your foot on the accelerator or making an emergency stop.
Tumblr media
A change in speed has been happening here on Earth, but it is far too slow to notice. Millions of years ago, one Earth day was about 22 hours, and Earth’s speed has been dropping for more than a billion years, with days increasing by around 2 milliseconds every century.
Tumblr media
This slow down is caused by friction created by the ocean currents, tides and wind pulling on Earth’s surface. However, global warming may speed things up again. As sea levels rise, this change in mass could result in Earth spinning faster and reducing the length of each day by 0.12 milliseconds, which would have dramatic effects on the calibration of atomic clocks and GPS systems.
Tumblr media
What if Earth were to stop spinning?
Without a huge external force, this is impossible. But, if Earth were to stop spinning, the atmosphere would continue to spin at the speed of Earth’s rotation, so anything not fixed to the surface, including trees and buildings, would be swept away by the strong winds.
Each side of the planet would get six months of continuous sunlight and six months of darkness.
Tumblr media
Without the centrifugal force of the spin, the oceans would gradually move towards the poles, creating a huge supercontinent across the equator. But we wouldn’t be flung off Earth. Gravity and the centrifugal force of Earth’s spin keep us grounded. In order for us to feel weightless, the centrifugal force would need to be ramped up. At the equator, Earth would need to spin at 28,437 kilometres per hour for us to be lifted off into space.

Researching gluons and colour charge is the most confused I’ve ever been towards quantum physics
I was okay until I got to the charge of a gluon, where wikipedia whipped out this monstrosity:
Tumblr media
What does this mean???
Also the reason I’m researching this is because I FORGOT I HAD A RESEARCH PROJECT DUE TOMORROW AND OH LOOK IT’S MIDNIGHT IT’S ACTUALLY DUE TODAY
I’m doing it on the existence of gravitons but I GOT SIDETRACKED EXPLAINING BOSONS I’M A PAGE IN AND HAVEN’T EVEN GOTTEN TO THE WEAK NUCLEAR FORCE YET SEND HELP

Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD)
Introduction Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) is a theory in theoretical physics t hat describes the interactions of quarks and gluons, the fundamental particles that make up protons, neutrons, and other particles. The term “chromodynamics” comes from the Greek word “chroma,” meaning color, as quarks carry a type of charge known as “color charge.” Fundamental Concepts and Properties of QCD In QCD,…

Collective punishment of an entire group is prohibited under international law. Israel’s proposed siege would be a war crime that indiscriminately harms innocent people, especially the sick, the disabled, the elderly and small children, who never supported Hamas, a group repeatedly propped up by Benjamin Netanyahu himself, to sow division amongst the Palestinian people.
This in no way excuses Hamas raping women and murdering innocent children and the elderly. That’s terrorism. That’s war crimes. A war crime doesn’t stop being a war crime based on who does it, or which side you support. I had the great misfortune of having watched some of the videos of what happened. I don’t know how anyone can see this and not be heartbroken and dismiss it because of some idiotic, “they had it coming” mentality.
Look, Palestine is being oppressed. By Israel. Israel is doing the oppression. Benjamin Netanyahu is a war criminal. We can and should support Palestine. We do not, however, have to ignore war crimes to support Palestine. Similarly, Western media outlets should stop ignoring and downplaying Israel’s long and well documented history of war crimes and other atrocities committed against Palestinian civilians and reporters.
And please pay close attention to who resorts to antisemitism to “defend” Palestine. The cause of the Palestinian people is strong enough without using bigotry and racism.

(video)
Finally, this is not a “war” between Palestine and Israel. Those words disingenuously imply a false equivalence, that both sides are evenly matched. They are not. The Palestinian ≠ Hamas, and the Palestinian people and Gazans do not have tanks, armored personnel carriers, helicopters, an air force, a navy, an army, nuclear weapons, and a sophisticated missile defense system. Israel, however, does have all of those things.
Hamas ≠ Palestine.
Palestinians do not have to be the perfect victims to deserve our support and sympathy.

baby trap - (vol. 1) toji fushiguro
rating: e (18+) reader: f summary: you were toji’s girlfriend? baby girl? sugar baby? slut? you were a lot of things to toji fushiguro. he paid for your college, fucked you in his car but also had a grasp on you like no other man.  tags: ddlg, dark themes, smut, multiple orgasms, baby trapping a/n: remember, the ask box is open!
Tumblr media
you were toji’s girlfriend? baby girl? sugar baby? slut? you were a lot of things to toji fushiguro. he paid for your college, fucked you in his car but also had a grasp on you like no other man.
he broke your phone once because he saw you had tinder downloaded, even though you were both never an official item. he paid, you fucked. but after that moment, he made it very clear that you were not getting with anyone else.
but the sex and a brand new phone patched up any fear you had towards him. he kissed you when he overstimulated you, kissing back the tears that were sliding down you cheeks. he bit at your nipples until they bruised and became puffy with abuse.
like lightning in a cyclone, you were two forces that only found a place with one another. it wasn’t normal, you were never going to have the perfect nuclear family life that your cousins had. you were going to be the girl of a trained killer. and he loved that you accepted that fate. as his strong arms wrapped around you like a snake, tightening when you struggled. there was no escaping him.
but he made it up with small bits of love, rough sex and money. he’ll happily slip tens of thousands of yen between your pretty glossed lips if it meant you’ll be a good girl. beg, shake, wag your tail, that kind of stuff.
you were both at your local love hotel about half an hour west of your dorm. toji had been a bit more clingy this evening as he picked you up. it was unusual for him. usually he had his big hand on your bare thigh as he drove, but this time he was kissing you with chapped lips against your temple and jaw as he stopped at red lights.
“what’s gotten into you?” you had asked as you chuckled at his affection. he went in for a kiss on the lips and you melted.
“aw nothing, angel. just let daddy show you some love.”
“i thought love wasn’t your thing.” you remarked.
“well, two months apart changes things.” he smirked against your warmed skin. he swore he could feel the pinpricks in the condom in his pocket. he just hoped you wouldn’t notice.
toji’s had enough of this childish shit. apparently breaking your old phone wasn’t enough to keep you loyal. he found texts between you and another guy on your phone when you were in the shower one time. he knew you were a bit of an airhead, you don’t listen.
but maybe a little bit of change will fix that. it’ll take a few months, but girls your age usually had children by now. right? the light changed and he continued to drive until you got to the hotel. now at the hotel, you went into the washroom to wipe off your make up and toji lounged on the bed.
he was nude by the time you exited the bathroom. you got naked as well, casual between the two of you. he was rather use to your nude form. as you moved around the room with not a single stitch on, toji’s mind wandered to changes your body will do in the coming months. it made his cock twitch. pervert.
“come. sit.’ he said as he sat up, “i want you honey. lie back, let daddy take care of you.” his gaze followed you as you sat on the bed and spread your legs. he pushed you down fully on your back and he got between your legs. legs over his shoulders as he spread your pussy lips with his fingers and started to lick like a hungry man.
you let out a small gasp as you felt him slip two fingers inside of you, ravishing your pussy like he heard the word from god to do it. his hard cock pressed against the mattress
“toji!” you gasped as your back arched but then he used his hand to hold you down while he continued to pleasure you with his tongue and other hand.
“yea keep it easy, baby girl. daddy’s got you.” he purred before he assaulted your clit with his tongue and his canine teeth which made your legs kick out but he kept you against the bed, “what did i say?” his voice lower and deadlier.
“sorry, sir.” you whimpered as you held onto his head, feeling his soft strands of dark hair under your fingertips.
“good girl, just let daddy take care of you. i’ll always take care of you.” he growled between your legs. his assault continued, unrelenting as he devoured your clit and fingered you until your moans got caught in your throat.
you clung onto the mattress as you felt the washes of orgasm over you. your cheeks felt heated, your pussy felt slick. even sweat dampened your hairline from the heat in the room.
toji knew what he was doing. you weren’t the first baby girl he had, but you’d the last. the first to move on to baby mama title. don’t worry, he’ll take good care of his family. just don’t expect your first child to be your last, okay?
he couldn’t imagine a life without you. even without the money, he just wanted to have you at all times. his pace was brutal, he could feel your wetness on his tongue as he continued. he knew his little slutty baby girl loved when it was rough, that was the only way you could get off. it toji tried to be like those limp-dick boys from your university, you’d never cum.
he exhaled deeply against your clit, his own breathing became heavy with lust as he rubbed his hard cock against the bedsheets. soon your thighs were pressed around his head as you felt closer to orgasm. he enjoyed your loud moans and continued work on you.
with another loud moan you came on his tongue. he felt you tense up around him as you finished on his mouth. your wetness glistened his lips and chin, highlighting his scar as he pulled his head away and looked up at you.
  “enjoy that angel?” he asked.
you nodded softly, “yes daddy.” but had little time to say much else before he was rolling you onto your stomach with your hips lifted. you heard him rustle with the condom while made you wetter.
little did you know.
“how do you feel, angel?” he asked as he rubbed your ass after he got the hole filled condom on. he was glad you couldn’t see the glee on his face in that moment.
 “i feel good, daddy.”
  “good.”
next chapter of your lives was about to begin. don’t worry your little head about it, daddy will take care of you. he dragged his thumb down your clit and watched your shiver before he grabbed his cock and pushed into you. he watched your back arch in pleasure.
oh did toji love you, or at least his version of love. something that had been twisted by time. he wanted every inch of you, he’d do whatever to keep you. even if it meant you having his brats. don’t worry you’ll look cute nursing one, chasing another and pregnant with a third. toji will take care of everything because daddy takes care of everything.
he started to fuck into you, his hands on your hips but soon his hand was in your hair to get better leverage to go deeper and deeper into you, his balls hitting your ass as he fucked himself into you. the condom providing little protection for you.
he knew there was a good chance you weren’t going to get pregnant, but he’ll just have to keep trying and trying until it worked. he could hear your pants and moans, the pathetic attempts to call him daddy. you were his good girl, the innocent little angel he spoiled and cursed to damnation. y
you moved with his thrusts, pushed forward then pulled back. in a repeated, rapid cycle as he fucked you. he fucked with intensity.
“that’s it. that’s my girl.” he watched your ass jiggle a he moved against you, his cock was as deep as it could go. he slapped your cheeks and his cock twitched in you as you moaned from the slap.
he picked up speed, his breathing became rapid the muscles of his abdomen clenched as he felt closer to orgasm. but you beat him to it as he watched you practically scream into the bed as orgasm washed over you. your pussy clenched around his cock as he practically had you bouncing on it.
“daddy! daddy!” you gasped, almost pleading as he bullied his cock into you. you were the perfect cock sleeve for him. he was definitely going to get you pregnant. you were going to be his for the rest of your days. he wasn’t letting you go, he wasn’t letting go of a pussy like that.
filling out with pregnancy would only be the cherry on top of it all. he leaned over you and bit at your ear as he kept your head into the covers. his hips moving quickly and coordinated to hit your sweet spot often. he wanted to make sure you never forgot who owned your sweet sex.
you were practically a rag doll against him as he whispered hot nothings into your ear as his hips pushed against your soft ass. his cock reached areas that you never thought were possible.
“that’s it angel. that’s it. you are mine, got that. you are nothing without me, you are my good girl. my baby girl, my stupid whore that i have to show the way of the world to. you’re mine, got it? i want you to say it.”
you moaned loudly, “i’m yours daddy, i’m only yours. i don’t want any other man! please, please have me forever!!!” before your eyes rolled back as a second orgasm followed.
you tightened around him once more and he bit back a hard groan as he continued to fuck the living daylights out of you. his breathing was ragged, her felt sweat drip down his hot back in this warm room. two figures fucking on a rented bed, one with the intention of impregnating the other.
he held you by the back of your neck and lifted his leg up to get a better angle to pivot inside of you. your screams were muffled by the covers. he could feel your shivers as you laid under him. he knew your brain was blanking out right now, but that was how he wanted his little wife.
“that’s it baby girl.” he purred, “remember, daddy owns you. lock and key until the day we die.”
“yes, daddy.” you said breathlessly. the corners of his mouth curled upwards as he could tell that your brain was totally blank. there wasn’t a single thought in your head right now that had nothing to do with daddy’s hard cock pounding away inside of you.
“that’s what i want to hear. good girl.” he said in a low tone as his thrusts remained brutal against you. he knew your body would  be bruised with your insides painted white. all by his hand.
his tongue glided across his top lip, touching the scar as he continued to move against you. the bed moved a bit more against the wall, making a good acquaintance with the white wall.
your eyes rolled back a little bit as he hit a nerve deep inside of you. he gripped onto you, and you moaned into the bed. it wasn’t long before both you and him came together. his voice low and rugged, while yours hit a higher pitch. but muffled by the soft pillows he kept you pinned to.
soon he pulled out of you, and saw a small string of cum that connected his flushed tip with your entrance. he smirked to himself and wiped away the string. pleased with himself. he threw out the holey condom into the near by waste bin. you trusted him, you won’t check if there were any holes.
you rolled onto your stomach and made a small whining noise for his attention. he went to tend to your needs, scooping you up into his arms and kissing the bridge of your noise.
“with me, angel?” he said softly. the warmth in his chest, pride of finally laying the groundwork to keep you by his side forever. baby trapping felt like a bad word, he was just putting you on the right path. and he couldn’t wait till it came to light.
soon you were whispering in his ear, asking for him to go again. toji couldn’t say no to his baby girl. after all he had a whole pack of condoms with holes in them to use before the lube dried out.
“of course, anything for you.” anything for you, mama.

Vault Dweller's guide to perpetuating America:
Lucy Maclean x Fem!reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Lucy is getting married and reader is forced to watch. but vault tech never planned for the inevitability of Sapphics…
Content: Fluff and angst, systematic homophobia, happy ending, no use of y/n
Authors note: Let me know if you want more of this or have any prompts to send it :)
Word count: 3.1K
Gay people were not a thing according to Vault Tech. They did not add to the breading pool, they did not fit into the nuclear future, they simply did not fit in the vault. Unlike sperm, cola, and corn, homosexuals did not play a key part in perpetuating the American dream. This was a good enough explanation for anyone willing to enquire (and enquire they had in the early years of Vault 33), but overall, as the years of confinement and isolation dragged on, and marriage for the sake of breading continued, homosexuality was quite simply... forgotten.
Rely on a schooling system created by greying, rich, white men to eradicate historical depictions of minorities. Education in the vaults was about the great west, cowboys, the splitting of the atom, the creation of the commonwealths, and the importance of capitalism; education was certainly not for understanding the distant Stonewall riots or the ancient tunes of "Freddy Mercury". heck! This was the new world! a once in a lifetime opportunity to reshape society! If Vault Tech could systematically remove a section of society that could not reproduce and thus could not recolonize the wasteland then they sure as hell would do just that.
Now let's be clear: Vault Tech loves and values all its customers! The fight against the Reds was the fight for American freedom, for the dream, for the nuclear family, for the blue, white, and red! America celebrates freedom for all! but even in the great year of 2077, scientists at Vault tech simply couldn't work in the variable of homosexuals into the Vault system. At least not into the control vaults. Systematic eradication is, by all means, easier than acceptance.
Vault 33! One vault in a triad with 31 and 32. A dedicated meritocracy built on the values of one's good deeds. Lucy Maclean prided herself on her merit and her ethics. She knew how to de-escalate a conflict, she knew how to stand up for her beliefs, and she knew the importance of kindness. She also knew her valuable role as a woman in the Vault 33 society.
As a woman, the daughter of the overseer, she would be a community leader, a history teacher, and maybe later in life, she would run for council. As a woman, she would also get married (preferably not to her cousin) and have little vault babies who would grow up, learn their own merit, and so on and so on. To say that Lucy was comfortable and fulfilled by this prediction of her life would be... a vast exaggeration.
Yes, she understood her importance as a potential mother! Yes, she loved and valued her community, her family, and her job. But something stopped her from becoming stagnant. Something about this perfect path she had been given just wasn't right for her. It grated at her relentlessly, a thorn in her side, a nagging hunch she couldn't shake. Surely it would change on the day of her wedding. She would meet her husband, kiss, make babies, have cake and everything would settle. The unease she felt would lessen and she would accept her designated role.
~
"I am so glad your marriage application was accepted! I just cannot wait for you to join us wives!" Steph squeaked, one hand cradling the ever-growing bump in her tummy while the other waved around to illustrate her excitement. Steph was the carbon copy of what Vault Tech stood for: she was a wife, a soon-to-be mother, smart and strong-willed. She was drop-dead gorgeous with well-maintained hygiene. when you thought of the "American dream" you thought of Stephanie Harper.
Lucy grinned back, fighting the urge to roll her eyes (eye rolling was rude and there were more effective ways to respectfully communicate your disdain).
"Oh golly! to think in a few short hours I’ll be on my way to furthering the vault's great aim!" She smiled for real this time because she knew her discomfort did not stem from contempt for motherhood.
"Oh, Lucy spare me the lewd details!" Steph giggled before winking.
"I know you don't mean that Steph. you and me both know you want as much detail as I can give." Lucy chuckled, picking at the canned tuna on her plate.
The dining area near the cornfield was particularly packed today; everyone wanted one last glimpse of Lucy Maclean before she was assigned to the ranks of wife. The stares and whispers were not unwelcome, however. They reminded her of the community that she was a part of the community she had been raised to help and to eventually add to.
"I hope he's handsome" Steph breathed, looking begrudgingly at her own husband who was standing awkwardly next to the Nuka-Cola machine with Chet. Lucy just swallowed hard and nodded. It was easier to think about the more fun parts of marriage than linger on the particulars of her mystery partner.
She was grateful for the marriage of course. It meant an excuse to cut things off with Chet who had been steadily grating on her nerves since she was 15 (he seemed to love her and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't begin to think of him like that in return. his warm body was truly his only perk.) It was also a milestone for her, a badge of honor to her community service. This is what vault tech wanted! This is what America wanted!
Lucy pushed back from her chair, suddenly feeling nauseous.
"Lucy, are you ok? you look a little pale dear?" Betty called from the seat next to her father. At the sound of her voice, the vault dwellers looked up to find Lucy standing awkwardly by her table.
"Oh! Yes, quite alright thank you!" she shrugged, teeth glinting with faux charm. "I just... I just wanted to have a nap before it gets too chaotic." lying was wrong. You were taught that very young in Vault 33. Lucy pushed down the stab of guilt before turning on her heels towards her family's shared apartment.
~
You watched her stand up from her table with a start that made you furrow your eyebrows and look away quickly. You would never admit to anyone that you had been staring at her, but you knew you had been. She was easy to stare at! She was a figure of authority, in a sweet and slightly clumsy way. Your excuse, should anyone catch you, was simply that you admired her can-do spirit! (that wasn't a lie though you couldn't label it as the truth either).
The other part of the truth was that you had been staring at her like a lost puppy since her marriage arrangement was announced. You and Lucy's friendship was... complicated. You had grown up together (as all vault children did), and your families were close (but not related as a "fun class DNA test" had proved during your school years). things got rocky as you got older though: Lucy was outgoing, confident, and stunning. All together just all the things you wished you were. That is, not to say you weren't pretty! In fact, you had received a few proposals in the past year (mostly from an anonymous admirer you knew was Davey, and a couple from Chet after he realized things with Lucy wouldn't work out). You and Lucy where still close, and to her, probably as uncomplicated at a friendship could get!
The complication was simply that to you it had become increasingly obvious that you were desperately in love with her.
You had noticed it first when you were about 14. Lucy was stunning, having never suffered the "awkward teenager" phase of adolescence, and was quickly discovering her hypnotic power over Chet. You weren't jealous of course! at least... not at first. But then it was more than Lucy's teasing flirtation: it was kissing, it was spending time with him more than usual. Suddenly you were jealous. Jealous in a way that couldn't be explained by the "Vault-Tech: Guild to female friendships" or "Vault-Tech: female adolescence in the Vault" or even by your mother's trusty copy of "surviving the teenage years: a manual sponsored by General atomics."
It got worse when you turned 17. Sex Education was vitally important in Vault education. it prevented the spread of disease, enabled knowledgeable future mothers and fathers, and fostered respect and dignity between men and women. It was in one of these detailed lessons that you caught yourself watching Lucy's expression: laughing at times, cringing at the birth diagrams, blushing at parts with a quick side eye to you.
The realization hit you like a ton of bricks as your eyes fluttered to her lips and lingered there for a moment too long. It hit you again at 18 during your "prom" when Lucy danced with you slowly as the light from the 2.5D Telesonic projector scattered across her cheekbones and lit up her doe-eyes. you remember almost pushing her away from the force of it. The force of the feeling, the emotion, the unholy urge to press your lips to hers that caught you like a punch.
That night you had curled in a ball and prayed. you did not know who "god" was, but you'd heard about him in class before. You prayed to him to make you a boy, to change your emotions, to make things make sense again. Your mother had stroked your hair, not truly understanding your grief but accepting it and holding it for you like only a mother can.
In your world of perfect underground utopia, the truest sorrow you had ever felt was the realization that you loved Lucy Maclean.
~
It took you a split second to stand up and follow Lucy out of the atrium. A second in which your mind reeled and hesitated sickeningly before you shut it up. Lucy was your friend, and she needed you now. Your footsteps echoed down the hall as you took the familiar path along the "street" toward Lucy's home. The door was only just sliding shut as you reached it and you rushed to duck under.
Lucy was where you expected her to be: knees to her chest, curled up on the sofa. Her hands were clenched in front of her, and her eyes were set at some point just beyond the "radiation king" television set that was blasting its usual nature documentary. She didn't look up as you entered, but the slight dip in her shoulders told you that she knew you were there.
"Lucy?" you called quietly, kneeling on the rug near her. she turned to you slowly and smiled politely as she was raised to.
"hey" she muttered, clearly trying to keep her tone cheerful.
you fixed her a look before sitting softly next to her on the sofa. She remained in her tight ball.
"pre-wedding nerves?" you asked, ignoring the lump that formed just next to your heart at the thought of Lucy's marriage. You watched her expression for confirmation, but it never came. Instead, she furrowed her brows and looked back at the nothing behind the TV.
"I'm sure everyone gets nervous before their wedding Lucy. Steph could tell you a million stories of her 'pre-wedding wobbles'" you chuckled, remembering Stephs wedding day not long ago.
"Its... it's not that." Lucy finally responded, tightening her grip around her legs.
"Then wha-"
"What if I don't want this... Like I thought I did" she blurted, the words mushing together as she fought to get them out of her mouth. You pursed your lips, desperate for her to continue. After a moment of silence, she started again, quieter and more measured.
"I feel so... Wrong. and I don't know-" she cut herself off, swallowed, and began again, "I don't want what Steph has anymore."
"What? the wedding? I'm sure your father would agree to a smaller celebration if you told him! I think he just likes to make a fuss of you."
Lucy shook her head. Finally, she let her legs fall away from her chest as she turned to face you with a dramatic sigh.
"I've always been so certain. and now... well I am certain but just not of the things I should be." She shut her eyes, needing to get away from your face for a moment. The lessons flashed in front of her eyes in quick succession: reclamation day, the purpose of the vaults, reproduction, male anatomy, romance, how to be a wife, the American dream. It flashed and flashed and then sank into her gut like an over-set Jello cake.
You watched her face shift from carefully masked to strangely tortured and back again before she opened her eyes once more. how you missed those eyes in that moment you couldn't see them.
She reached forward and held your hand, her finders dusting over yours curiously as if she was handling some strange new specimen. she'd held your hand before, countless times in the 20 years you'd known each other; and yet her fingers felt tentative in a way they hadn't before.
"Lucy... it's ok to be scared, it's ok to feel unsure. heck, you know I spend most of my time feeling unsure." you cast her a weak smile, "I know you, and I know you will be an amazing bride to whoever you marry. You'll be a perfect wife; you’ll be an amazing mother and one day I know you'll make an amazing overseer as well. And Lucy? even if it feels hard, you know I'll always be here." You had long ago settled into your role of best friend, nothing more. You would be there, and you would love her (in a way approved by social expectations).
Lucy stayed quiet for a long time, still slowly tracing over your fingers with her own. It had clocked for her the moment you had entered the room after her dramatic exit from the atrium. she wasn't unsure, she wasn't uncertain. I fact, she felt as though she had never been more certain in her whole life.
Maybe it had started when she was 12, when you had helped her take her first ever stimpack: holding the needle steady, wiping her eyes with your own hand and giving her a little Vault-Boy band-aid to cover the little hole.
Maybe it had started when she was 15 and getting a steady stream of attention from boys (mostly Chet) and could only watch your disdained reaction to her suitors. Even then she had a hunch that she cared more about your opinion on her "boyfriends" than the boys themselves.
Maybe it was when she was 18, pulling you through a maintenance tunnel by your hand with a high-pitched giggle and a determination to find a good meeting place for when you no longer had school to attend. She remembers your initial reluctance, followed by rebellious cheek that pushed you both further into the guts of the vault than you had planned on. She remembers the oil that had got on your face that she insisted on wiping away herself.
She tore her eyes away from your hands and stared at you with all the intensity and authority that the overseer’s daughter should possess.
"I’m not scared. and golly I feel about as far from unsure as a girl can be." her hands tightened around yours. "This vault... we are told what we do and what we feel. heck, they even tell us who we should marry! Maybe I'm being silly but that doesn't fit into the 'American dream' they are always yammering on about!" her voice rose had she got more passionate. you watched her with a mix of shock and awe (an emotion you often felt yourself feeling when you were around her)
"I've always nodded along to what they've told us! who am I to doubt the rules?" she continued, her eyes never leaving yours, "but this marriage... I don't want that!" she concluded with a huff, finally blinking and pursing her lips as if she'd suddenly gotten shy.
It was your turn to reach out to her now, freeing one of your hands from her grip and placing it softly on her shoulder. you put on a calm expression, but your heart betrayed you: beating rapidly as if trying to escape its spot behind your ribs.
"What is it you want if not the marriage?" you whispered, feeling the moments fragility.
a beat.
Lucy sighed, stealing herself. her eyes were no longer full of angry passion, but rather softer, watery. her expression seemed to mirror the way you knew you were looking at her.
"I think- no, I know... Gosh, I want you so badly" she breathed.
Another war could have started and ended, and you wouldn't have noticed. The air stilled despite the constant circulation of the vents and the clock on the wall must have stopped ticking. Silence, a long silence that must have only spanned a fraction of a second.
Her words, like the flash of light as a fission reaction begins, followed by a lull followed by...
You launched forward before Lucy could hesitate, before you could leave her hanging, before she could dare think that you didn't want her back. her lips touched yours and it reminded you of the desperate prayers you used to send to the man called "god" (you thanked him now that he never changed you). There were no fireworks like the books said, no large, forced explosion, no splitting of an atom. Instead, it felt... inevitable, like the slow decay of an element, like aging gracefully, like coming home.
Her lips slotted against yours perfectly, softly and she gasped as she kissed you back. you kissed not for the purpose of "perpetuating America" or building the next generation of vault dwellers, but simply because you wanted to.
She pulled back after a while, bleary eyes and pink-cheeked with a grin that made your heart grow.
"I did... know we could..." she let out before laughing, one hand covering her mouth while the other found its way to the side of your face where it lingered. You laughed too, sides splitting and eyes watering.
"Who the hell cares" you spluttered between laughs, leaning into Lucys hand.
"If it wasn't clear... I want you to. in a um... kissing way"
"Oh really? I wouldn't have guessed" she drawled playfully, "well then... I think we have a wedding to wreck."
"What will you tell them?"
She shrugged and scooched a little closer. "That's a future Lucy problem. Current Lucy is preoccupied..." She smiled at you in a manner that was really more of a smirk.
You had barely enough time to squeak out a rather excited "Okey Dokey" before it was her turn to shut you up with a kiss.

Humans are weird: Poop Crystals
( Please come see me on my new patreon and support me for early access to stories and personal story requests :D https://www.patreon.com/NiqhtLord Every bit helps)
The pace in which human technology progressed over the millennia was rather standard for a class 4 species. Even when accounting the periods of scientific degradation which resulted from natural plagues or religious persecution; it was expected that humans would not achieve advanced space travel until another 2-3 thousand years had passed.
Scientifically speaking human scientists were well more advanced than the society they lived in, but due to the technological limitations of the human race they were held back from implementing their designs. A primary limitation was the lack of a sufficiently powerful power source. They did have many different forms of power generators ranging from solar to nuclear, but to power larger machines often required equally large energy sources. To power their ships alone around a third of their vessels were dedicated to the power cores.
With these restrictions in place travel between stars for humans often relied on decade long journeys in cryo sleep; which ironically required even more power generators to maintain. Their large size made them easy targets for natural disasters such as space debris or prowling space pirates seeking an easy profit margin at the slave markets. These dangers became a standard for human travel until the Terran civilization encountered the planet Nolla 987 and the species that called it home.
During a long duration colonization trip the human ship “Midas” was struck by the trail debris of a rogue comet and knocked off course. The robotic caretakers tried their best to maintain the course, but with the damage done to the ship their primary programming to maintain the lives of the crew kicked in and diverted the ship to the nearest habitable planet for debarkation. Nolla 987 was the closest planet with a stable atmosphere. Originally charted several years earlier but deemed unsuitable for colonization or industrial expansion, it was not ear marked for either and left alone; until the Midas incident that is.
The landing was not a smooth one. Several engines had been damaged and multiple hull breaches resulted in portions of the ship being shredded away during the entry process. It would be safer to say that the Midas crash landed during the final stretch of the maneuver, but with a 73% survival rate of the crew a rather acceptable crash landing.
One by one the crew and colonists were unfrozen to find the ship a burning wreck and only a handful of robotic assistants still functioning. The industrial printing machines were relatively undamaged but without the ships power core they could not be used to print components or tools needed to make the necessary repairs. The crew was then forced to ration its remaining power supply and divided into two teams. The first team would comb through the wreckage and salvage what they could of the wreck while also building shelter. The second group would scout the surrounding area for anything of use and then report back.
It did not take long for the second team to stumble upon a nest of the dominant species of the planet. An insectoid called the “Sectar” which ranged from the size of a house cat to as large as a two story building. These insects digested their food and excreted the waste into a dense crystalian substance that they then used to build massive hive like complexes.
The occupants of the hive had been driven from the hive by the crash landing of the Midas leaving it almost completely empty save for a few eggs and new hatchlings who were not strong enough to flee on their own. Several of the second team members had been scanning the crystal structures while interacting with the newborn Sectar’s. To quote a journal entry of one of them, “They were like insect golden retrievers. Extremely derpy with at least four times as many sets of eyes. They followed us around on their legs like we were their mothers and clung to our legs when we began to return to our ship for the night.”
At least one of the second team was confirmed to have brought a hatchling back to their camp. There was a debate amongst the survivors on if they should try and eat it, but the notion was quickly squashed as they still had food reserves and no one was brave enough to see how the alien’s bio matter would react inside the human digestive system.
The same human who had brought the hatchling back offered it a portion of food which it eagerly ate. Not long after the hatchling excreted a hardened crystal roughly the size of a thimble. When the human made to pick up the seemingly beautiful gem they recoiled as an electrical discharge shocked their hand. This immediately drew the attention of the rest of the crew who began carefully examining the crystal substance. After some rather rough jury-rigging, the crystal was wired into one of the printer machines and to the surprise of everyone powered the machine. The crew quickly learned that the older Sectar’s would produce larger crystal excrements but were extremely hostile and territorial. Smaller Sectar’s were deemed more desirable for the time being as they were easier to train and harvest crystals from.
Within a matter of days the crew had not only collected enough crystals to power all of their machines and send out a distress signal, but also used the new found crystal power to create a full settlement on the planet complete with water filtration, crop fields, and a sizeable wall to keep out the native wildlife.
It would not be for another thirty years before a passing human shipped picked up their distress signal and went to investigate the planet. When they arrived on Nolla 987 they were astonished to find a fully functioning colony complete with limited orbital facilities. Nearly every human settler and their descendants had a Sectar in their household that they would take care of and feed and in exchange use their crystal excrement to power nearly everything they needed to live.
From there it was only a matter of time before the entirety of human space was aware of the events of Nolla 987 and the Sectar species. Within the decade the colony on Nolla 987 became the capital for a fully settled world with dozens of cities and communities. The Sectar species were transported throughout human space and began being implemented in all aspects of society.
There was initial resistance to the new power source by existing power blocks which realized Sectar power would be far more efficient than nuclear powered engines, but unlike other power sources they had squashed in development the Sectar power option had thirty years of trial and error to back it up with research as well as a fully functioning model with the planet of Nolla 987.
Sectar’s became a common sight on every human planet and were treated like common pets. It was even studied that when introduced to different food sources the energy output of crystal excrement could be increased resulting in certain food industries booming overnight. The composition of spices, cooking technique, and flavoring became an entirely new and highly prestigious academic field with the most successful of its practitioners being highly sought after by companies.
The technological capabilities of humanity experienced a massive surge in advancement within fifty years to the point humans no longer needed cryo ships to travel between stars. Those who had been studying humanity found themselves now being introduced to them as humans winded up on their doorstep with a Sectar on their shoulder and a perverse obsession with collecting its bodily waste.

Buying a house/flat with you for the first time
Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley
I can see Simon feeling excited and ready to move in knowing that you would be in a safe place, somewhere he knows is safe and secure.
He would be very much a hard person to shop for a permanent home with, he would be incredibly critical of every place, he would complain about things you believe are small and inconsequential, he would complain about a door not being screwed in properly, he would complain about the thickness of the window pane.
It would take you weeks to find the ‘right’ home, it would be a flat in a secure building that required a fob to get inside, it was at the top of the building forcing you to take two lifts to the top, as well as a flight of stairs, you had passed comment on the two lifts and the flight of stairs were a bit excessive, but he disagreed, thinking he could leave you here for long periods and not worry that someone could break in and hurt, his baby, his Everything.
Johnny ‘Soap’ McTavish
I could see Johnny being not quite the polar opposite of Simon, he would still be just as protective and be just as picky with his housing choices, but I could see it being more relaxed I could see him becoming almost manipulative with it, him passing comments such as “Do you think that’s safe, with me gone for so long?” or “Imagine if the light went out in the close, how would you see any threat coming?”
you would nod and agree, not really thinking much of it, just believing he was being a good and dutiful boyfriend, but when you found the home you truly adored and believed you could spend the rest of your life there, you saw it, the manipulation, but just rolled your eyes and fought with him on it. So much so He gave it, hating that it had a wrap-around porch, big bay windows and three entrances, the front door, the back door and the side door.
Captain John Price
Now I think John is a little different, he has already bought and sold a couple of houses so he knows what he likes and what he doesn’t and over the months before asking you to buy a place with him, he would show you pictures, ones he had pre-approved obviously like he was going to show you something he didn’t like or think wasn’t safe enough for you.
When you finally did start viewing properties, he would steer clear of the big houses or the high-rise flats, as Johnny and Simon had bought, he managed to find a pretty house, with a second bedroom for if the boys needed it or for any future kids he had with you.
Kyle ‘Gaz’ Garrick
Now, Kyle, I could see being the total opposite, he wouldn’t care truly he wouldn’t, he felt as long as the door was secure and he could put a few more locks on it, he didn’t mind, all he cared about was his first home that he would share with you. This man would walk around the properties and shrug his shoulders at things, he would pass comments on the wall texture or how he didn’t like how the kitchen layout didn’t feel right, but he would test the front door, practically ramming into it, testing to see how it would hold against someone ramming their shoulder into it.
So much so, that when he first did it you yelped hearing the loud bang, I could also see him finding the townhouses in the city to be very appealing that man would adore the doors since he could put big strong storm doors on them that could damn near survive a nuclear explosion and then he could buy the same for the internal door, I could see him fighting you on this house heavily.
Alejandro Vargas
Now this man is calm collected and stress-free, he has seen Simon’s flat, Johnny’s house, Kyle’s townhouse and John’s house, he had eyed each place taking subtle notes, on how protected he wants you to be, how secure he wants your shared space to be, he takes note on how to behave and how to check if the potential property is up to his standards.
He had gone to properties by himself, checking out prospects, he would never approach you with shitty properties, that didn’t meet his standards, I could see him finding a second-story flat that had a secure entrance, when he approached you with these properties, you had wanted to check out the area check for your first home, he would nod his head and agree, but he knew what you liked and what you didn’t and when you had narrowed to his favoured second story flat, he smiled and agreed.
“Of course, I think it’s a good place to” or “I agree, it seems like the best option.”

Note
The so-called scientists are being evasive on the matter so I think it would be proper if you shed some light on it: what is the fifth force of nature?
Gravity
Electromagnetism
Weak nuclear force
Strong nuclear force
Hollywood’s will to run every single good thing it ever finds into the ground.
