Sometimes I think about how at the Ferrari movie premiere, Christian Horner said ‘I am sure they wanna keep hold of him and they’d be crazy if they didn’t’ when asked about charles renewal contract, almost with this threatening look like he is ready to pounce the moment Ferrari fuck up again; and Toto playing clueless like ‘Oh I don’t know anything about a contract but why wouldn’t Ferrari sign him’ because I am pretty sure both of them approached Charles this year 👀 and the funny part being no one was asking them about Carlos lmao

Charles the darling made sure he had all the cards and (hopefully) got what he wanted!

they both approached him at the beginning of the year, charles declined mercedes immediately. then i believe helmut leaked the unsuccessful attempt to get charles around may.

then charles started again flirting with ferrari after the padel date event, which was after qatar, and was seen being friendly with christian horner, other RB employees, and max during the triple header. back in vegas, he hung out more with max than his own teammate. that's when i believe there were negotiations taking place, i still believe @tsarinablogs's theory that charles did, in fact, sign a pre-contract with red bull following the singapore/cota/brazil shit show, and actually showed ferrari he was aiming to act on it - i believe even the questions about their rivarly with max during press conferences were plugged in by red bull to further spread their lestappen teammate duo agenda.

it switched around abu dhabi, when fred made the statements about charles being the leader they need, and his subtle carlos shade (after he almost cost them the cost cap breach).

charles, however, definitely gained more individual autonomy out of that pressure he put on ferrari and also is now able to do many things that his previous ferrari contract did not allow him (more personal PR than the ferrari one, wearing his clothing brand, hanging out with people that aren't exactly tifosi approved like max in the paddock).

so yeah, i believe charles truly played his cards REALLY well and managed to get that contract he wanted. i believe christian's obsession with charles still makes him believe that if ferrari failed, he could snatch him, which probably would be possible with the exit iron clauses.

also charles nor ferrari not dislosing the length of the contract definitely is a bit sus, so there's that

I love that they keep playing sinister music whenever he's on screen now. Like we've seen the opening credits multiple times now we know he's not a murderer. Whoever described this as a gothic romance is 100% correct though.

I love that she's acting like he's going to stab her with a hairpin in the middle of a store full of people

He's doing an excellent job of being creepy and sinister. Does he know she suspects him and is just fucking with her? Or is he acting totally normal and she's just imagining him being creepy and sinister?

He's like 'in case you have forgotten I'm not actually an idiot'

I love that he can go from sinister potential murderer to scared bunny in a heartbeat

I legit have no idea who the actual murderer is so I am enjoying seeing the clues as they are revealed

Queer history of Final Fantasy

I am replaying all the old final fantasies(mostly psp psone releases), first time with english localization and not the original jp.

Now i get it.

It all make sense now.

I couldn't understand the wave of "why shove the gays in our face" backlash of 16(even though, the non homophobic felt it was lacking since they didn't want to 'push it in yall face'). Like apperantly moat of the implication or straight up fruity moments in the old game was completely removed, or changed to the point of it being a 'silly thing'.

So lets clarify -

*Cecil(iv), your homeboy- an Non-binary (language is the best indication, but yeah i think it was a decision made for both female and male players to be able to relate to them, but yeah funny outcome non the less)

*Bartz(v)- outright bisexual, they didnt even hide it- next person on this list gonna make it make sense.

*faris(v)- an ftm transgender( at least in the original version, i know in some new iterations they scrapped the whole concept, but left it in in others?)- mainly speak about himself with (ore/boku- which is conventionally usally by male speakers), after finding out soem of the cast either use a female pronounce on him, but bartz constantly either avoid it or use male pronounce(or the nonbinary version which is usually reffered to kidz) but yeah, bartz was crushing on faris where he thought he was a cis male and unlike the other guy didnt shy away.

Lets jump a bit to 8-

Irvine(viii)- even though considered very handsome to the point he could get with any girl hed want, was even flirted with by selphie i think i need to remember, but he usually brush it off.

If anything he is either asexual, or gay(its very subtle, but its what called queer coding, and well see that allot from now on cause japan caught up to westerns norm on media)

Quina Quen (ix)- literally, a nonbinary- but i think they kept it in eng as well cause they are not human, but like black mages they have no sex, but unlike black mages they are 'genderless' and dont care for human norms.

Kuja(ix)- either gay/intersex/both.

Look at him.

Seriously that character confused a whole generation sexuality.

Like sephiroth, but unlike sephiroth he also have effeminate mannerisms, and until it was revealed by text it wasnt so obvious.sephiroth in jp have a confusing language because he himself is possed by jenova, so evem though i love this headcanon, sephiroth isnt trans actually.

Auron(x)- ahh yes, your favourite broody guy and probably where im gonna get tons of hate.

Auron is very subtle, but once you notice it its hard to deny.

I think Auron is gay, unlike jecht or braska- he did not have kids, denied arranged marriage, and followed jecht to dream zanarken just to save jecht only son- it was pretty obvious that auron loved jecht. He also loved braska but not as much, and it shows- that for auron it was more than friendship. You can see it with his attitude towards yuna vs tidus- with yuna he is nicer, politer. Liem you act when you babysit your friends /cousins child.

But to tidus, he is a full father figure.In their journey together they grow, and i think if he wasnt the boy of the man he loved he wouldn't treat tidus as his own. With all the scoldinngs in mind.

Paine(X-2)- qlmost forgot her, but yeah she's pretty gay for riku

I dont remember much though because if the mission structure of the game.

Larsa(xii) - ohh i see you boy, i see u. He is sus as hell. He is a kid so its pretty innocent(and relatable to us queer kidz)

Its pretty obvios that he is crushing on basch, innocently though. I know some ppl who shipped him with penelo, but canonically by spinoffs at least she and vann are an item.

Also they made sure it was obvious cause japan have this thing that a young character is crushing on a teacher,mentor , older characters in general(aka cc sakura- her friend crushing on a teacher, syaoran & sakura crushing on yukito, also happens in tons of pop culture media at that time, so im not surprised, but im happy this time its one sided, THANK GOD)

But yeah if you reached the ending its pretty obvious.

Fang & vanille(xiii)- the first lesbians couple! Terra(VI) was supposed to be the first but they were afraid it will make her less marketable so they scrapped her gf. They made them clear, but at the same time they tried to make sure pple wont be fetishizing them(they tried, at least).

I want to explain their story more but i think ill mess it up since i tend to mix up 13's lacie, falcie and all that jazz.

So ill just say that basically there are 2 world in 13, pulse and cacoon. Pulse is basically earth and cacoon is the moon. There is a god for each world called a falcie.

Few of them but ine for each major ones. Our main gand from cacoon, branded by a falcie to be slaves(lacie) vanille and fang are from pulse, and slaves of pulse lacie, so basically they are with the task of creating Ragnarok which is like the end of time and but limw they dont know cause the gods in this game is like 'yeah imma give you a mission but wont tell you beside weird non undersandable feaver dream and you need to figure out and fast or youll become this universe version of zombie, and if you do complete it you become a ceystal living forever but like, sleeping beauty style. So lose lose situation.

The focus of them both is different from the gang, caus the falcie of cacoon is evil so he gove them focus destroying cocoon while if fang& vannile mannaged to ruin that falcie and bring ragnarok theyll become a crystal, and they used it to save coccon from falling and crushing killing all the people in it, basically became a pillar in eternal sleep when they hheld each other.

But they are saved in later game only to... Lightning return which we wont talk about cause i hate timers.

I love the story of xiii, big part of it is vanille & fang, i havent played in english yet, but i will say, their story is one of the more meaningful on this list, very well developed and i will do it disservice if id try to explain it in few sentences - so do yourself a favour and play or watch the playthrough.

Ignis& gladio(xv)- here is when localization ruimed it. I know cause i palyed on jp dub with eng sub and heard the differences live- first of all gladio and ignis are completely different in jp, as individuals and as a pair- they were supposed to be the first dion& terrence moment, but it got scrapped and they went the vannile& fang route, only that bec they are men, the localization team missed the mark.

Gladio got pissed at noctis in the train because of ignis.

In jp its clear their bond is beyond friends, and not mention the fact that their AI is always stuck together, and that gladio isnt a womenizer in jp at all, and there is no fiancee/girlfriend.

In jp he said suggested there is someone he wants to be with but bec of the state of the world and them both being constantly in the battlefront he couldnt ask.

(and ignis clear his throat when everyone is like oh great, very subtle but it was leading to that)

Every stop of the train or erea post blindness gladio was with ignis not leaving him .

Also tabata san also said that they are more than friends. So there's that too.

But its no secret 15 localization is tereible, the massacared prompto, he is so cringy in english, in jp yeah he is funny but like he says more stuff then random pop colture references, he breaks the 4th wall occasionally but not on the same level of the localization. Also, jp noctis is a little shit because he can and will, in localization he is more relatable while ignos and gladio are kimda mean. In jp its the other way around and up until chap 13 (when he is alone) noctis is a bratt. He has some moments when he is nicer, but when struggle shows he is a bratt about it- and its done purposely since he is a spoiled pronce who never done anything alone in his life.

Thats why in chap 13 he has a change of heart, because he was alone and learned to appriciate his friends when he was stuck alone in the dark with no weapons and i think it was a good call storytelling wise, but yeah the english localzation ruined it and made the whole chapter pointless .

Those are the implied/canon gays of final fantasy up to 15(we got a kiss so its obvious).

The series has always been kinda Fruity and i know some of yall will be like, 'but there's no proof'. Well, japanese speakers(who arent homophobic at least) will agree with me that we tend in media that is not specified like BL or GL to make things subtle. So what in the west is called 'queer coding' is very common in japanese media and it comes in way more shape and forms.usually implied with a desper conncetion relationship or linguistics.its funny cause in the 80's and very early 90's gay pple wasnt hidden in jp pop culture (no kisses or anything but it was straight out told to the viewer/player)

And only later 90's there was a trend of removing us completely from the media, but around that time a specific genre was created so it wasn't out completely.(like yaoi/yuri as erotic mangas existed aince the 80's but usually only love stories or main gay characters were mixed in with the straight media, kimda like what netflix does today, but around 96, 97 the shounen ai and shoujo ai genres rose in popularity(mainly cause of clamp) and things got seperated. In games- because it became a bigger deal in the west square took caution with how clear they gonna make stiff not to piss of the christians after the backlash of Pokemon (idk how it was really but through japanese media and news it seemed at the times that the american patents were pissed so game companies started sensoring their games from all things might piss off christians/monotheistics ).

*also i dont live in japan but i am mixed so i grew in a jp speaking house and family from there always sent games on holidays and birthdays+nhk was always running in the backround to check on the motherland😂

on that confession

first, to get everything out of the way. I AM SO GLAD TO BE PROVEN WRONG. young-woo really does want to be in a relationship with him, because whose example does she follow to get him to fall in love with her (not without a lot of help from Hairy aka ra-mi's boss aka I can't believe I still don't know his name)? she copies the same actions of jun-ho that made her fall in love with him in the first place, and I just find that so sweet.

second, on min-woo. he's still on thin ice, but I love the hint of having a mentor like atty. jung can help steer people to the right path and be better than they were (although it still would have to be min-woo's choice). atty. jung makes a great point about how he didn't penalize min-woo for his actions either, which really proves that he's not giving special treatment to young-woo, but merely following his mentoring philosophy. we had so little of su-yeon, but what little we had was glorious! eat your heart out min-woo! I actually do not mind the su-yeon x hairy agenda, but the implication that young-woo may intentionally have been trying to dash min-woo's chances before he even starts is hilarious to me because it makes absolute sense. from her perspective, no way would she give up her spring sunshine to a jerk like min-woo. so again I reiterate, he better shape up soon (meanwhile it's min-woo who finally gives jun-ho the push he needed. haha irony).

third, on jun-ho. THE THIRST REMAINS REAL. you think you're so slick. he could have totally gotten that eyelash on the first try, but he just kept making an excuse to see how near he could get again. it wasn't that clear on that first watch, but I think his hands were hovering on her waist again? The thirst remains real, for jun-ho, and for me. this better not be one of those dramas where there isn't even a kiss (seriously I blame Law School and Secret Forest)! and I really love these subtle progressions in their relationship, like how jun-ho starts getting closer, and how young-woo has started letting him.

fourth, on acts of service. his confusion was adorable. his jealousy was adorable. as expected it flew over young-woo's head, but I really love how it wasn't this toxic thing. it was more like he was playacting, but ultimately he couldn't help his smile seeing her so happy. the acts of service from young-woo's end were such a big deal to me, because they show her interest. her talking about different things during lunch aside from whales, and asking about whether he likes pickled radishes show to me a willingness to want to change, to meet him in the middle so to speak. so really, the hesitation mostly came from jun-ho's side (although by the look of the next episode, young-woo might face difficulties again. I'm sure they will, but they can always handle it together).

I love the slight subversion of gender roles. From su-yeon aggressively pursuing love, to young-woo pulling out jun-ho's chair and opening doors for him. and I love that the reason jun-ho gives for wanting to be on the outside is not some rubbish excuse like 'you're a girl', but practical ones, and that when he rants, it's not because he feels emasculated or anything, but that he's just adorably confused, because he seems to me like someone who relies on acts of service, like he really wants to be doing things for the people he loves. those little actions are concrete things that he can do for her. add in that of course anyone would feel embarrassed by having the object of their affection do things for them, and I was just cheering young-woo, because you go girl! give him a taste of his adorable and confusing medicine. at least jun-ho had the benefit of knowing young-woo liked him (which she reaffirms! gosh I love our straightforward girl), while young-woo was right to be perplexed at not hearing an answer but still continuing to be treated that way by jun-ho.

and now to the confession itself. I AM DECEASED. ep 7 gave us flirty jun-ho, while ep 9 gave use Jane Austen desperately confessing jun-ho and I am all for it (he had no right to don that absolutely relieved puppy face). in ep. 7, it was night time and they were wearing opposite colored shirts (blue and red), while in ep. 9 it's daylight and they're both wearing green which shows that they're finally on the same page. I love that he confessed where they met, and after she was remembering him too ('1-2-3'). and honestly, it's no wonder that he loves her as much as he does because she is amazingly brave - from the little things to attempting the revolving door without him and going out of her comfort zone to big things like her finally doing what the letter reminded her to do, 'to be more than a competent attorney who only wins in court'.

the lead-up to the confession was also perfect. as expected, he really was thinking deeply about it. his line of 'she's not someone he can start things with the mindset that it won't last ' had two implications. one, of course, was that he was still contemplating what su-yeon said, but the other might be that his feelings had already become that serious. min-woo jokes about marriage, but notice that jun-ho didn't exactly say no or scoff at it.

besides being a bit of a romantic, I think jun-ho is the wrong genre-savvy. he's been approaching this like a kdrama (ha!) and looking for romantic cues. he keeps waiting for a grand moment. as he said, he keeps feeling he has to have some great determination, maybe because he thinks that's what young-woo deserves. but he shouldn't underestimate those small and ordinary moments either, like young-woo doing those things for him just because she likes him.

he keeps getting thrown in over his head. because young-woo keeps on reaffirming that she likes him, and keeps on being nice to him and wanting to spend time with him because she likes him. the same that he'd be doing so far when it comes to her. but it's not as if she's demanding an answer. and knowing young-woo, even if by chance her feelings happened not to have been requited, I don't think she would treat jun-ho drastically different.

so ultimately, it's about jun-ho. what he wants. and just as with su-yeon, despite all of the concerns he's thinking about, he exclaims passionately that his feelings aren't temporary, that he wants this to last.

and in the quiet, he has his answer. no matter what happens in the future, he knows that in the now, he just wants to be with her. with no grand gestures, he just runs to her in home clothes, just wanting to bare out his soul to her immediately, and he looks so, so relieved when he finally does.

(and despite him being on thin ice, I love that it was min-woo who simplified things for him. to add, I know it was the production team who decided it, and it's supposed to be his hair was windswept after running all the way there, but it's also mildly funny for me thinking that despite his rush, he had enough time to fix his hair before he met to confess to his crush haha)

MAG 165 Relisten

Activity on my first listen: cutting the Kolkwitzia amabilis in my garden.

This is (perhaps to no surprise) one of my favorite episodes. I have absolutely no understanding of poetry, but the flow of the poem-statement just sounds cool! Also I love amusement parks, yay, even if we don’t really hear much about it. And of couuurse, it's the birth of "Ceaseless Watcher, turn your gaze upon" and so on and so forth. I'm not much for revenge, but I'm very much one for standing up to those who bullied you. And in this instance it still was more of an emotional act than planned.

JON: "But the curve doesn’t work quite right, and if you stayed in the same spot and just – hopped on a horse and let it carry you ‘round, it – might be… days before you passed the same spot, or, uh…" Ok seriously, as a horse person and also someone who enjoys merry-go-rounds that sounds wonderful to me! xD

MARTIN: "Hm. (slowly) You think we could – get – that experience just – walking along the edge? Because, uh – I really don’t like the look of those riders." JON: "Would you believe me if I said they were the victims?" Another one of these, where we get a very vague indication that things are probably looking not as we initially thought? Apparently they look like they could be the tormentors in this domain. But Jon lets us know, that this is very much part of them being the victims.

MARTIN: "Fine by me. (laugh) Never really liked merry-go-rounds anyway." JON: "No? You – gone on any recently?" MARTIN: "What? No. No, I don’t think so. Not since I was a kid." JON: (heh) "I actually, uh… There’s one at London Zoo – uh, was one at London Zoo. Big old thing. Went quite fast, actually. Su-Surprisingly thrilling." [AS HE SAYS THIS, WE HEAR MARTIN TRYING TO CONTAIN HIS MIRTH. AS SOON AS THE ARCHIVIST FINISHES SPEAKING, HE LETS OUT A LARGE BURST OF LAUGHTER.] I took a look at a few videos of the carousel at London Zoo. Yeah, it looks like it has a decent speed. The animals dont't look super appealing to me, I usually go for a bit higher quality asthetics. My last carousel ride was in September last year. Also Martin's laugh is great xD

JON: "What?" MARTIN: "Seriously?!" JON: "It was years back, before the Institute. I… I was in a weird place. Had a good time, though!" Yeah what, Martin, I don't understand the question! Also I don't think it's necessary to be in a weird place to enjoy a merry-go-round as an adult? (Or... am I just permanently in a weird place?) Don't hide yourself because your boyfriend can't understand a bit of childish fun, Jon! Martin's reaction might be a side effect of the horrible behavior of his mum and him having to grow up very quickly. Bit of wisdom from my mum: She always said, I should keep my childlike nature as often and as long as I could because there will be enough situations which require me to act like a grown-up.

"Dance to the beat of the thump of the chase of the still and plastic horse" Love this rhythm!

Uhhh... Some of the passages are super long and and there is not a single pause... Did Jonny ever take a breath in there and it was edited out or was this really in one go?

"You tire of the chase of course, the fire and all-relentless pace of competition reaching for a name, identity, and face that has long since worn through all reserves of hard, enduring vigor in you. Yet still you only stay a self while willing on your aching legs that feel like breaking just to keep you forward of the frenzied fray of hazy clawed who are yous. So run." So here before the "Yet still you only..." there is cleary a breath and before "So run" also very subtle... How much of some of these passages are really read in one single breath??

"but the frozen face is still the same, the simple cast of equine terror, framed and caught in wood and plastic bulging eyes of fear." Mhm, that is something I'll never understand, why someone would chose to design carousel horses with jarring mouths... And their eyes always match their mouths, wide open and fearful. There are quite a lot of those out there...

JON: (laughing) "Then I don’t know what you mean, Martin; I’m not a poetry person, I don’t – get it. I never have." Yeahhh, same. Though I can appreciate certain rhetorical devices with a poetic tone. But full poems? Rarely, especially if I don't have context. (I love Arthur's poem in Malevolent Part 20 for example!)

In that entire scene after the statement and before Not!Sasha shows up Jon seems very stressed and annoyed. Probably hurrying to avoid her.

NOT!SASHA: "And what if I let you choose this time? Which one of you would I wear next? Martin looks very comfortable, positively roomy. Oh, wouldn’t you agree, Archivist?" Probably a bad idea to threaten to take Martin... Also, the holy trinity of indications that Martin is fat is now complete!

MARTIN: "Jon, what are you talking about?" JON: "She can’t touch us." [THE NOT!SASHA CONTINUES TO MAKE NOISES OF ANGER, GROWLING AND SNARLING AND HUFFING LIKE A BULL.] JON: "We’re so far beyond her now. She’s just like everything else here: ruled by the Eye. (slight laugh) And she hates it." In a world of the Eye no wonder they're somewhat more protected than others might be. Jon seems to enjoy the irony (Ha Eye-rony) of the monster who took the first of them now being so powerless against them and is even suffering.

JON: "Pathetic." [A CLINKING, SHUFFLING SORT OF SOUND; HE SHOULDERS HIS BAG.] JON: "Martin, let’s go." NOT!SASHA: "Not as pathetic as your little friend when I ate her life." [A DRAWN, DANGEROUS PAUSE.] [THE ARCHIVIST TAKES A STEP BACK TO FACE IT.] JON: (low, deadly) "What did you say?" Oh you immediately hear in Jon's tone that this was a grave mistake by the Not!Them! It is so good! The final straw, the thing that makes Jon snap.

I really like the sound of the smiting! This blipping out of existence! A friend of mine referred to it once as 60s Sci-Fi sound effect xD

MARTIN: (impressed) "Who-a-oa." Martin is absolutely not grasping the severity of what just happened. I mean yeah, it's not him who did it, that is of course a huge factor. But to be honest, my reaction also was the same as Martin's here^^'' More of a surprised "Holy shit!!" than a "oh, new set of very dark powers.."

y’all people saying this shit act as if ruby and sapphire didn’t full on KISS???? on the goddamn LIPS??? at their fucking GAY WEDDING? and that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the rep this show contains and exudes from every pore!! did you literally FORGET about this shit???? like??? the goddamn gall of people to claim this was anything but some of the most BLATANT western animation representation that exists

i really shouldn’t have to say it

even beyond this single example, even WHEN it comes to rep that’s more subtle, representation is NOT a fucking competition. please kindly stop treating it like one. this is a baton marathon, and every showrunner who fights for queer rep in their shows is passing it along to the next generation of creators. every single step counts.

i am begging you, do NOT forget how revolutionary the strides of our past were. shows like this are an irrevocably VITAL piece of queer history in media.

Impromptu Event Look: Uncharacteristically Subtle Sound Pillar Homage

Ufotable's "Total Concentration" gallery has been traveling around and so have I, so the time it has spent in the city closest to where I live almost fully overlapped the time I was out of the country. But not totally! Instead of returning home last night, I crashed in Osaka so I can attend on the second to last day! Whoohoo, jet lag and carry-ons!

That being said, I usually do some subtle character homage when I go to KnY events, but since I wouldn't be able to go home to my collection first, I thought I wouldn't be able to do something this time. However!! My friends back home are supportive of my fangirl ways, and I acquired a few items!

This is my first piece of Muki Muki Nezumi merch, as I just haven't found the stuff I've seen so far very cute. Since tgis gallery focuses on the Mugen Ressha and Yuukaku arcs there will be more Muki Muki merch today, but I want to see it in person to decide if I like it or not.

As for the tag below it, another friend surprised me by printing out a panel of my own art and I love it, it looks so good in 3D.

So receiving these two gifts made me make up my mind to do a very unflamboyant Uzui homage with nail polish borrowed a few days ago (which I have just enough time to wash off before going back to work), and only as much make-up as fits in this little bag:

Thank you, Nezuko. Reminds me that on my air travel back I saw two adult passengers in Nezuko sweatshirts (and one had the ribbon as a hairclip) and a child with a Nezuko plush. Aaah, it's good to see otaku traveling again.

So anyway, added a flamboyant pair of su glasses and earrings which were also acquired while traveling and tada~

I was going to put my hair up in a tight ponytail like Uzui's but I have flamboyantly voluminous bedhead, so okay.

Wait, these sunglasses seem like they could be Daki's taste and my hair is acting like Gyutato's... okay! They get to be part of today's impromptu theme too! Now off to the gallery! And then home after that, and very soon back to work with jet lag! Such is the fangirl life!

Still waiting for my timed entry, but I am inwardly squealing as I see everybody else's chosen accessories and hear "UMAI" ringing from the gallery space. It seems there will be places to pose inside so it's a shame I'm alone today but maybe I can ask other people. I am a dork and enjoy silly poses.

Thank you for such an in depth response, I feel honored by it and that I was able to inspire you about the concepts and I agree. I had similar thoughts about the theming of Sora’s name and him being the void of space. Even had musings of how in primordial myths the heavens (sky) and the earth are considered the couple that brings about the first forms existence. Gaia and Ouranos and on the Egyptian mythos there was a love story of Geb (earth) and Nut (sky) although interesting enough geb and nut are kept separated by Ra (the sun).

But regardless, I’d say nomura is quite interesting and impressive to consistently yet subtly equate riku to that of deity so easily. Yes, I believe in riku being a dia in some sort. Probably kingdom hearts sending out an avatar to grow, or the king to kh reincarnated, or some other thing I can’t quite grasp right now but overall with the ending of the series hopefully not too much farther in our lifespan. This is why I enjoy reading and interacting with metas and theories especially about sora and riku and soriku because I said in a comment in a YouTube video that discussed the sleeping real theory and I said it feels like we have the right answers but just not forced into the right shape (a key perhaps 🫣) to unlock the final gate.

Riku has always had all those "subtle" visual shorthands used to denote super special celestia mystery powers (etc) but, like the Subtly OP antics of the Disneytowners (e.g. Donald casually casting the Boss-level spell 'Flare', Goofy tanking hits from Literal Deities with 1 shield & no apparent magic of his own), Riku looking "anime" gets brushed off as "standard JRPG aesthetic".

Naturally silver-haired youths in anime tend to be Plot-Relevant, typically having ☆Super Special Bloodlines☆, typically being Secret Royalty &/or related to Angels or Spirits.

(and it WAS suspiciously easy for Riku to just... BECOME Sora's Dream Eater, especially given what we know of the Chirithy spirits, their abilities to act as psychopomps, & whatever the Dream Eater crafting system in DDD may imply about Dream Eaters as a whole)

From what I can recall, the only naturally silver-haired characters original to KH are:

Riku

Ephemer

Xehanort (confirmed descendant of Ephemer)

Xemnas (Terranort)

Ienzo (taken in by the Always Sus Ansem the Wise, origins unknown)

From the Final Fantasy side of the crossovers, we have Setzer (who only appears in the DATA Daybreak Town, not the "real" one) and... Sephiroth.

For being such an "anime" JRPG, Kingdom Hearts is pretty sparing in its use of Anime Hair Colours. Aqua & Isa's blue hair aside, the colour palette is fairly "natural": pale blonds & yellows, oranges & pinks amongst the reds, browns & blacks. There aren't many characters old enough to have "grey" hair but the ones that do are ALSO fairly mysterious: Merlin, Fairy Godmother, Master Yen Sid, Zeus... Kairi's Mysteriously Knowledgable Grandmother (who i am, like, 75% convinced was a retired Princess of Heart). Even the "silver/white" House of Duck are all Very Suspicious: Donald is, canonically, the most powerful Black Mage of the FF franchise; Scrooge & Donald's Nephews casually worldhop for fun & profit as if they were Moogles or something.

So, yeah, even Riku's "anime boy" aesthetic is itself pretty Telling of Riku being Plot-Relevant. He's canonically part-spirit, after DDD, but his ability to do that at all IS unprecedented (just like his ability to Balance Light & Darkness within himself, like his Light being equated with the Sun, like his easy grasp on using Darkness...). Whatever the KH-universe equivalent of an "angel" may be, Ephemer & Riku seem closest to it. That Riku met JOSHUA (himself a kind of Gay Angel) in DDD does not seem at all a coincidence.

oh! there's also that whole [terra] sigil thing! Riku's costume/keyblade designs imcorporate it (i forget how) & THAT sigil is probably the in-universe namesake for Terra, the character. Rather than [earth] or [land], the [terra] sigil seems older & is likely referencing an "[original/first] earth" or mean "[land of origin]".

It makes me wonder whether Riku's parent/s were themselves Aware of Other Worlds? If he's a relative of Xehanort, it's plausible that Xehanort's Skuld-resembling mother learned about Xehanort's ending up at the Destiny Islands & their family possibly moving to the World in hopes of a reunion. Which... would mean they weren't just AWARE of Other Worlds but ALSO capable of traveling between them. This is probably going to Come Up in Missing Link.

Okkkk, done with the 12th month (aka goodbye Jeralt)

The fantasy action/adventure stuff continues apace. The Tomas/Solon thing was pretty smoothly set up, though I would say Monica/Kronya was much less so. She's mentioned like once, then gets one quick textbox of nothing on the stage immediately before the stabbening, so it really comes out of nowhere. It doesn't help that the cutscene is quite rough and doesn't really convey things too well.

Aside from that, we progress from Miklan turning into a monster while holding a Relic, to the Crest Stones being related to shapeshifting, to a mystery group who experiment on humans all the way to turning students into monsters with crest shards... and who also happen to be able to change their appearance. (Minor FE lore tidbit: in the old Archanaea games, there was a dragonkin who could shapeshift into other people. So this is all potentially part of the same experimentation.)

We also get into the mystery of Byleth's birth, but while Jeralt's diary makes it clear that he freaked out, Rhea herself doesn't come off as particularly ominous or suspicious. If anything, her reactions and the details that surface make her look burdened but not particularly culpable for anything. Actually, I am getting very attached to her. She's so pretty and so sad. Why can't I do her A rank? Why can't I S rank her on this route? :(((

The other major player is Claude, but... tbh I agree that the relationship with him feels weirdly floaty. If anything, I feel like it would at least be better if he said he had thought his dream might not even be possible, but seeing Byleth makes him feel like it might be achievable after all. At least it would add weight to it that way. As it is, the lack of anything concrete from him, along with his brown-nosing makes him come off as trying to manipulate Byleth more than forming a genuine connection.

The Golden Deer on the whole have a similar problem. They are nice kids, and the combination of their supports + paralogues does create a certain sense of community and group connection. I went around and listened to all their little dialogues about trying to comfort Byleth after Jeralt's passing... (Getting Leonie B rank immediately after tho... lol)

But it feels like there's a lack of some major anchoring event or cause to serve as the focal point, presumably because no one in the class can really interact with the plot and they're too disparate to share a similar broad motivation. Like, I don't instinctively reject their promise to meet in five years, at the Millennium Festival, but I can't say I'm all that invested in it either.

It also really doesn't help that the writers didn't bother fleshing out some of them. A lot of them cross the line from having traits that strongly influence them to having 2 jokes that they repeat in every support. Disappointing but unsurprising, it happens especially prominently with the commoner characters.

And again, liveblogging notes:

Rhea is so unsubtle about Flayn, "your... sister is like family to me," if we ever thought Flayn was really Seteth's sister lmao

And then Lysithea is like "she looks my age but seems so much older!" when she herself gets accused of acting too mature several times. lmao they were not subtle At All

Immediately after Tomas jumpscare, we get a required chain of dialogue highlight how he's so sus, he's been asking about Flayn before he knew she was missing, he was asking about Byleth and Jeralt too, he directly calls you out for finding him suspicious and tries to handwave it with "oh, I was just curious" aka the weakest excuse ever

I keep killing the other enemies before getting to Death Knight. Twice now! It's so rude because I didn't know he'd teleport out if I killed some other dude? Lysithea could one shot his ass, damn I'm not redoing that stage tho

At least I finally managed to grind out enough Armor to recruit Ferdinand. His C support is really funny because he wants to talk about what you think of Edelgard, but like... I've seen her like twice. I don't care, dude.

They mention that Byleth has started smiling twice in a row. This writing is not subtle lol

Several mentions of Almyra, and these proper nouns are finally starting to sound a little more familiar. I have almost all C ranks and it's getting into the B ranks now.

Claude brings up wanting to use the Sword again. He's really hung up on that.

When Byleth suddenly falls over in the Remire month, Sothis mentions that she's felt dizzy before, but I can't remember what this might be referring to. She later says the feeling is very familiar, so it seems to be related to her? Mysterious.

Lysithea casually drops that she has multiple crests in conversation. We haven't discussed this before....

Claude points out that the Crest Stones on the Relics have the images of the associated Crests. He doesn't seem to know what Crest Stones are, though he knows the name.

He finds a picture of the Immaculate One and notices it might have a Crest Stone on it, linking it to the ability to transform. Which is... not incorrect.

Claude directly confronts Seteth about his censorship. Claude is so fond of the bludgeoning approach to conversation.

Monsters attack merchants all the time (at least in Alliance). Generally, monsters don't just occur naturally in FE settings, but I guess it's just a thing in Fodlan? These do seem to be mutated animals (holding "Dark Stone") rather former people, I suppose.

I actually kind of like Raphael. I wish his writing wasn't so much 2 jokes though.

Raphael and Ignatz paralogue suggests that Lorenz's dad got the "previous Duke Reigan" killed but like... the current Duke is Claude's grandfather. It seems like this is referring to Claude's uncle, but he's other times referred to as the previous heir, so...

Incidentally, two merchants were killed along with this previous Duke, who were Raphael's parents and went instead of Ignatz's parents by chance.

Claude describes his father as "extravagant" and his mother is apparently like a warrior goddess. She seems to be able to back it up, including getting into a fistfight with a famous warrior.

He's not very subtle about hiding his background. Like, bro, if you talk about having a combat instructor who has won a hundred battles, that's... not normal....

That reminds me of Claude expecting Cyril to recognize him. They don't have TV, so how would a regular commoner kid recognize the crown prince on sight? Does Claude's portrait get passed around? Is he Almyra's top bachelor of the younger generation? Or is he just that out of touch?

Solon was at the monastery specifically to get Flayn's blood. The Agarthans need it for their plans.

Flame Emperor jumpscare lol

Edelgard says she would have totally stopped Solon's experiments if she knew, promise. And smoothly goes into pointing out what a threat the Agarthans are.

Jeralt suggests running away from Rhea was a mistake. Claude suggests that maybe exposing the church's secrets might not be for the best.

Apparently Jeralt had told Byleth they were born after he left the monastery.

Tomas joined the monastery 40 years ago, then left 8 years ago, and returned 1 year ago. He was recommended by House Ordelia. Jeritza was recommended by the Imperial nobility.

Seteth and Flayn's paralogue is kinda... weird if it happens before the war.

Flayn B theorizes that maybe she and Byleth are related, it's possible given "everything Rhea has done." But Seteth doesn't know what could possibly be up with Byleth, so...

Getting both Claude B and Leonie B right after Jeralt's death is... sure a ride.

tbh the cutscene for Jeralt dying was kind of unimpressive.

Fun fact: it seems like you have to choose the Dancer on the very first weekend of the month, and it no longer works on subsequent weekends. Guess who overwrote their only save of that by accident. No dancer in this run, I guess.

okay reading this i dunno if i always thought this probably i did but ive returned to it again and definitively this time. this interaction between dave and dirk is the BEST interaction in the comic and adds so much more depth to both of them who were already GREAT characters. THIS interaction solidifies dave as my favorite character of all time. homestuck is many things but one of its major themes is just trying to become a better person. and i think dave personifies that theme so much. he has come so far and evolved so much as a person that looking back at his early interactions in the comic makes you think you are looking at a completely different character. sure he types the same and has a bit of the same mannerisms but it is so clear that he went from shitty bigoted teenager to a guy who actually cares about the things he says and does and a guy who is actually a good person. he even says in a previous interaction with roxy and rose that he has focused on being a half way decent guy so that when he makes a freudian slip (which he does ALL the time) it wont be anything insane of unforgiveable. i fucking love him and i am so glad this conversation with dirk exists

Hellloooo, I am genuinely curious about your take on some aspects of the trial. And I mean this sincerely, why do you think she didn’t donate the money, even before she was sued? Also it seems in my layman opinion that a a broken nose would have been incredibly difficult to cover esp when she was on the talk show. I wouldn’t want to be on the wrong side of history or anything. I feel like you wouldn’t feel so strongly about everything if you didn’t have information I must have missed!! I’d like to hear a take that’s not being pushed by the hegemonic rhetoric I’ve been hearing

On the donation: I genuinely don't know and don't care. Maybe she ran into financial difficulties but I don't think it is particularly indicative of her character because she still took much less in the settlement then she was entitled to by California law and donated more than many people far richer then her do. And once more Johnny Depp is guilty of the same. damn. thing.

On the broken nose: Look, I'm not a doctor but the fact is Depp does partially concede to headbutting her because his admission is on audio recording and thus he cannot deny it. She says a doctor did confirm that she had small fractures in her nose but the medical records were kept out of the trial due to hearsay or whatever. So if his story that he "accidently" collided with her nose while trying to restrain her or however the fuck he's trying to spin it then why is he turning around and trying to act like the photos of her nose are photoshopped or that she faked the bruises or whatever he and his fans are trying to claim. Like it doesn't make one iota of sense! To believe her, you simply have to believe what she says happened did, in fact, happen. To believe him you have to believe she waited till he accidently headbutted her but her nose was fine, then she faked the injury the night before she had a tv appearance scheduled?

Maybe I'm crazy but I do think she actually looks notably busted on the James Corden show. Still beautiful but definitely puffy and dark under her eyes. And again if she was going to fake injuries then why did she make them so subtle? Like, I'm so confused what people are actually accusing her of? Faking her injuries? Not being injured? Not being injured enough?

I just finished episode 7. Like. I need a moment. THE END OF THIS EPISODE OMG!!!

But first. Kim and Chay, my babies 😭 Kim was not being subtle at all with his question. And Chay being clueless about Kim flirting with him (its run in family). They are so cute, I feel like the first kiss is coming soon 🥰 I really want to Porsche going all protective brother mode when Chay tells him about his Futur boyfriend (Like maybe he will contact Porsche when he is with Kinn. Porsche would probably go to their house with Kinn following him, just to find out his own brother with Chay. It can be very funny. It will also make the Kim detective storyline progress and we will learn more about it???).

Also, Kim reaction when Chay told him his parents died in a car accident?? He was really surpise by it, almost like it's not the right version? 🤔 It has definitely more to it!!!!

Now Vegas in the red shirt. Yes please sir. I was also looking veryyy respectfully. I love that we can learn about him some more! He is a psycho, like he brings in own torture device everywhere he goes???? Like go off sir. I am scared for Pete after their interaction, like Vegas is not stupid he knows what he did (Vegas I love you, but don't hurt Pete).

But with what we seen of Vegas, I don't think he is the real vilian of this season. He doesn't give me the vibe of his final boss, you know what I mean? I'm sure he is just a diversion from the real vilian, probably a big plot twist? I do feel like Korn is the real vilian, he is too sus. I'm sure he is plotting something behind Kinn back. With all he says about his relationship with Porsche (this man definitely knows what is happening between them), i think he is going to attack Porsche in some kind of way?? If he has something to do with his parents death, he could be his way to finish the job you know? Maybe, Porsche parents was his enemies and that why he kills them, so now he is finishing the job? That's probably why he doesn't accept his Kinn relationships with Porsche, bc he doesn't what his son to get attach to him? So many thoughts

Now. Kinnporsche. KINNPORSCHE. Where do I begin??? The softness between them when they are around each other?? They are so attached already!! Kinn was so insecure, he was so scared to loose Porsche. I just wanna hug him, poor baby. The way he call Porsche when he was on a mission, or the way he keep asking Porsche to promise to come-back to him. The moment when he shows up at Vegas house just to be with Porsche (this scene was so soft, especially the end when Kinn just kisses the top of his head). I think something happen between Him, Vegas and Tawan. Maybe Tawan cheat on Kinn with Vegas? That's could be a reason of why he hates his cousin, and why he is afraid to loose Porsche to Vegas? That could also explain why Vegas knows what happen to Tawan, and why he was to one telling him to Porsche?

Now. THE FINAL SCÈNE????? SO MANY THOUGHTS???? I WILL NEVER RECOVER FROM IT. First, we have Porsche acting Drunk to be alone with Vegas to figure him out (I think that bc he act too normal when Kinn arrives, we saw him drunk with Kinn and he doesn't act normal even though Kinn was intimidating). He clearly didn't expect Vegas to kiss him, and Cleary didn't want to!!! (maybe Vegas will finally understand he doesn't have a chance with him).

The way Kinn show up in the bathroom, he was ready to sho Vegas , it was so hot omg!!! They are so attached to each other, the hug was so delicate and tenderly!! Also as you said the temple kiss at Vegas's house! 😍 They way Kinn gave him his arm (something really precious to him) to Porsche like I think it was a metaphor that Kinn will be with him even when he can't!! Okay, I'm confused: What's up with Merula giving us hints/helping us in one chapter, and in the next one when we talk about it, her saying "I don't know what are you talking about" and acting nice/decent with us? Is she trying to evade suspicion? If so, then it makes her even more sus. Or is one of them is Verucca while the other is the real one? If so, then who is which?

Either way, I believe it’s all about the context. Notice that in both cases above Merula revealed the information in the private situation with MC. When MC was thanking her, there were witnesses. See, I don’t think Merula was really supposed to tell us all of that. I suspect that she was acting a little against R, and that’s what she might be referring to in the recent chapter:

If that’s the case, she’d be worried that R might find out. That’s why she didn’t want to admit to talking about Ryusaki at the Three Broomstick when there were a lot of people, and if she’s really paranoid, she’d be concerned about Flitwick and Corey at the Charms classroom, too. It’s the most likely explanation, in my opinion.

Now, I know that quite a lot of players are speculating that Verucca was actually impersonating Merula when she kidnapped Corey, but… it just doesn’t really make sense, if you ask me. And I guess that the biggest problem is that line where Merula claims that she tried to warn us. Because why Verucca would try to warn us? And from what? From R? So what, am I supposed to go back to the Rogues theory, saying that Verucca works against R? And if Verucca didn’t try to warn us, why would she include this line?

You know, now that I think about it, I’d rather say that Verucca might’ve been impersonating Merula in those moments when Merula was extra nice. It could explain why she didn’t know what MC was thanking for. Moreover, it seems that Verucca is not particularly good at acting like people she’s impersonating or being subtle. Remember Mr Diggory at the Ministry at the early Y7?

It was also implied that it was Verucca we talked about at the end of Y6:

So, I suppose it’d make sense if Verucca misjudged the situation and assumed that by being super friendly as Merula, she’d be less suspicious. To be fair, I also think it’s pretty stupid, so I still prefer the explanation that Merula was simply worried about being exposed. However, it probably works the best if we want to have Verucca impersonating Merula at all.
