For powerful em's powerful birthday month, a few vignettes from fucked up brocedes hg au. Thank you for bringing your wonderful, kind, generous self to everything you do in fandom! @powerful-owl

The chariots race by, spewing fireworks and glitter. The procession is headed by the blonde Career that was supposed to volunteer for Nico’s Games. All of the bookies are already saying he’s going to win. The Games are going to be boring with those odds.

Nico wrinkles his nose and squeezes Lewis’s hand tightly. He flicks his hair behind his ear and straightens his posture. The video screens cut to a technicolor image of him and Lewis sitting side by side in the front row with the rest of the victors. Lewis looks beautiful and deadly in artfully bloodied scraps of lace and leather, and Nico looks embarrassingly like a dessert, decked out in cherubic feathers. Everyone cheers. For Nico and Lewis and for the new tributes—twenty-four teenagers that are slated to die on film.

“Are you booked after this?” Nico says, turning his mouth towards Lewis’s ear.

“Yeah,” Lewis murmurs, looking ahead. “I’m some old fuck’s date to the afterparty.”

Nico knew that. He feigns surprise anyway. “Weird. So am I.” Lewis rolls his eyes, but Nico can feel the tendons in his arm jumping underneath Nico’s palm. It’s funny, Nico thinks, how Lewis has been at this a handful of years longer than Nico, and he still reacts to every little injustice like a knife to the gut.

Nico laughs a little to himself, and Lewis shoots him a weird, sidelong glance, rubbing his thumb along the inside of Nico’s forearm. Nico wouldn’t know what that’s like—feeling.

Nico collapses on top of Lewis’s sweaty chest, inhaling a lungful of body glitter. He chokes on it, coughs and hacks a few flecks out of his throat, and drags a shuddering breath of oxygen into his chest. He and Lewis have been fucking for so long he doesn’t even remember what it feels like to not have someone else inside of him. Lewis groans and whines underneath him, panting.

It’s approximately one billion degrees under the floodlights. It's so bright that Nico can’t see anything of the party surrounding them, just blobs and smudges behind the retina-scalding curtain of light. He knows they’re in the center of everything though, and that everyone is looking at them, and that people are cheering, because he can hear it faintly behind the beating of his own blood in his ears. He’s on the good shit too. He can’t usually stay hard for this long, even if it’s Lewis.

Lewis whines again, and Nico pushes himself back up and starts moving again. Lewis groans, his head thudding against the arm of the sofa he and Nico are perched on and his eyes rolling back.

It’s almost worth it, Nico thinks. Everything is almost worth it.

Nico can’t fall asleep alone anymore. When he shuts his eyes all he can see are glittering, multifaceted crystals, pools of blood as thick as velvet carpets and the inky blackness of endlessly dark caverns. Sometimes he gasps awake, and it feels like there are still shards in his throat, rending sensitive flesh on each juddering exhale.

When Lewis is in his bed, it’s a little bit easier. They don’t fuck when they’re alone—Nico would be so lucky—but Lewis holds him and Nico bites back his usual complaints.

Lewis has his lines memorized now. Nico doesn’t have lines, because all he has to do is moan on the floor with a gash in his stomach large enough that he can feel the heat seeping out of his shredded entrails. They’re reenacting everyone’s favourite part from Lewis’s Games where he saved a rival victor that had been left for dead behind a waterfall. This is the X-rated version, though, so Lewis is going to bandage Nico’s wounds and then fuck him back to health.

Nico can hear himself gurgling, notices the shadows creeping into his periphery. Then Lewis’s hands are on him, and the shadows are receding and the knife-like pain of consciousness is making itself known, like a bright light irritating dilated eyes.

Lewis rubs his thumb across the inside of Nico’s forearm. Nico twitches, prone. His insides are knitting themselves back together. His wounds are sealing themselves up. This is the best part. The worst part is the tenderness after.

The theme is sharks. And sex. Sex and sharks. Sharks and sex. The theme is Nico and Lewis have sex in a giant fishtank while shark mutts swim from end to end, gnashing their teeth and snarling. They’ve given Nico a drug that eliminates his metabolism’s need for oxygen, but it feels like he’s drowning all the same. The capitolites think this sort of thing is funny.

Nico clutches at Lewis’s tattooed bicep. His stylist has inked him up with images of angel fish that dart across his abdomen and octopuses that twine around his shoulder blades. Nico is wearing pearls. Lewis has a look on his face like he hates that he’s been made to do this and hates himself even more for being unable to dissent.

That’s the Lewis he knows, Nico thinks. That’s the Lewis he fell in love with, when he was sixteen watching Lewis’s Games with his father. He turns his head to gaze through the thick wall of glass that warps his view of the venue outside. Slim figures wisp by, toting flutes of champagne and tiny canapes. They’re not even looking.

Bile rises in Nico’s waterlogged throat. They need to look.

Lewis is watching the Games. When he turned it on the television in Nico’s room, Nico almost vomited, but Lewis was adamant that the broadcast stay on. He watches the Games even when the Capitol doesn’t parade him around at viewing parties to provide expert analysis. He tells Nico that it’s important to bear witness to what the Capitol is doing to the children of Panem, but Nico doesn’t buy it. He knows that Lewis just likes to torture himself. He’s always been a martyr.

Nico curls up underneath Lewis’s arm and tunes out the sounds of slaughter. Of exploding canons and warbling mockingjays.

When Lewis utters a disgusted sound at the TV, Nico looks up. The flatscreen is displaying the gory remains of at least three tributes splattered on the face of a snowy mountain. The Career that Nico replaced is standing in the middle of it all, an impish grin on his face and blood up to his elbows. He sticks his tongue out and wags his index finger at the camera.

“Typical District 1 overindulgence,” says Lewis, repulsed. “You can tell he’s never thought about anyone other than himself in his life.”

Nico smiles smugly where Lewis can’t see it.

Anon! Sorry for the late reply; every time I start thinking about your ask I realise that I just love way too many cards aushdia Deuce’s Star Sending card is great, everyone’s outfits from this event are gorgeous; and Ace’s new card is honestly amazing, so I completely agree with you.

I’ll go through all the characters and try picking one favourite one + list the other ones that I like… it’s a lot… I’ll try not to pick everything lol

Deuce – Rabbit Wear (+Groovy), it’s so difficult to pick between this one and the Starsending one, but Rabbit Deuce is super charming; Starsending Robes (+Groovy), Dorm Uniform (+Groovy), Birthday Boy Groovy, Birthday Jacket Groovy, Labwear Groovy, Clubwear (+Groovy), Broomquet Groovy

Trey – Halloween Groovy, I really like it when Trey gets to be a bit spooky and creepy, so this one is honestly easy; Broomquet Groovy, Outdoor Wear (+Groovy), Lab Coat (+Groovy), Labwear Groovy, Ceremonial Robes Groovy.

Floyd – Swimwear (+Groovy), I picked something spooky for Azul and Jade, and I originally wanted to either pick the Dorm Groovy or the Beans Groovy for Floyd, but then I saw the Stitch cards and they made me so happy that my hand slipped; Dorm Uniform (+Groovy), Beans Camo(+Groovy), Outdoor Wear Groovy, Basketball Jersey Groovy, Birthday Jacket Groovy, Birthday Boy Groovy, Broomquet Groovy, Playful Dress.

Kalim – Dorm Uniform (+Groovy), I thought I’d pick the Pop Music Club one, but then I looked at this groovy again and I god I think this is objectively one of my favourite cards from all of the boys simply because of Jamil’s bracelet reflecting Jamil’s concerned eye; Pop Music (+Groovy), New Year's Attire, Apprentice Chef Groovy, Playful Dress, Gala Couture Groovy, Birthday Jacket Groovy, Birthday Boy Groovy.

Jamil – Harveston (+Groovy), this one annihilated me, I cannot pick any other one, although Jamil is so gorgeous all the time that frankly it's unfair; Dorm Uniform (+Groovy, fuck), Basketball Jersey (+Groovy), Gala Couture Groovy, Masquerade Groovy, Labwear Groovy, Silk Adorned (+Groovy), Birthday Jacket Groovy, Birthday Boy Groovy, Broomquet Groovy.

Vil – Halloween, let's face it, this is objectively the best Vil card, the legs, the outfit, the composition, it’s legendary… I honestly love this one much more than the Groovy version; New Year's (+Groovy), Beans Camo (+Groovy), Outdoor Wear (+Groovy), Silk Adorned (+Groovy), Labwear Groovy, Dorm Uniform (+Groovy), Birthday Jacker Groovy, Birthday Boy Groovy, Broomquet Groovy, Playful Dress.

Rook – Beans Camo (+Groovy), I feel like this one has such a strong "Rook" presence, but at the same time it's kind of unusual in a way; Halloween Groovy, Lab Coat (+Groovy), Dorm Uniform, Ceremonial Robes Groovy, Birthday Boy Groovy, Birthday Jacket Groovy, Broomquet Groovy, Apprentice Chef, Port Wear (+Groovy), Tsumsitter Groovy (bonkers).

Epel – Harveston (+Groovy), the ultimate Epel Card, both versions are very beautiful; Rabbit Wear (+Groovy), Dorm Uniform (+Groovy), Birthday Jacket Groovy (yay Floyd) Birthday Boy Groovy, Broomquet Groovy

Idia – Masquerade (+Groovy), I think I literally picked every card of Idia lol he can do no wrong, but the Masquerade ones just hit different, they're so dramaticly delicious; Harveston Groovy, Suitor Suit (+Groovy), Dorm Uniform (+Groovy), Birthday Boy Groovy, Starsending Robes (+Groovy), Birthday Jacket Groovy, Labwear Groovy, Ceremonial Robes Groovy (aoba looking ass), Broomquet Groovy, Apprentice Chef (+ Groovy)

Ortho – Cerberus Gear (+Groovy), because Ortho is a BAD DOG this card has absolutely no business being this cool, it’s been almost a year and I still can’t quite express how I feel about it; Fairy Gear (+Groovy), Playful Gear, Rabbit Gear (+Groovy), Birthday Gear Groovy, Ignihyde Gear (+Groovy), B-Day Jacket Gear Groovy, Broomquet Groovy, Precision Gear Groovy, Burst Gear Groovy (I'm biased), Stargazer Gear Groovy.

Malleus – Dorm Uniform it's gotta be this one, it's stupidly gorgeous and has a HEEL, I feel like this one expresses Malleus' entire being perfectly, but it was hard to pick between this one and the Masquerade+Halloween; Masquerade (+Groovy), Halloween (+Groovy), Labwear Groovy, Birthday Jacket Groovy, Birthday Boy Groovy, Broomquet Groovy, Silk Adorned Groovy, Apprentice Chef Groovy.

Lilia – General's Armor (+Groovy), it's so difficult to pick one for Lilia omg all of his cards are pretty great but this one is so ICONIC that I honestly have no choice; Swimwear (+Groovy), Halloween Groovy (FACEEE), Dorm Uniform (legs), Broomquet Groovy, Suitor Suit Groovy, Labwear Groovy, Birthday Jacket Groovy, Pop Music (+Groovy), Kingly Garb (+Groovy)

Sebek – New Year's (+Groovy), another difficult one to pick, maybe I'll change my mind after we watch ch7, but Sebek looks so good in this outfit and his face looks so good on this one + the perspective makes me weak; Armor of Eternal Night (+Groovy), Harveston (+Groovy), Masquerade (+Groovy), Dorm Uniform, Ceremonial Robes Groovy, Labwear Groovy, Birthday Jacket Groovy, Broomquet Groovy.

Silver – Halloween (+Groovy), the colours are gorgeous on both of these, but especially the non-groovy one: the teals and the blues work so wonderfully with pink accents, Silver is super pretty on this one; Gala Couture (+Groovy), Ceremonial Robes Groovy, Labwear Groovy (this one is so silly he's so serious), Broomquet Groovy, Birthday Jacket Groovy, Dorm Uniform (+Groovy), Birthday Boy Groovy.

HP Rec Fest, Day 23

I can’t say soulmate AUs are among the things I read the most but every now and then I feel a soft yearning for that trope and I’m always open to new angsty interesting takes on it. I know this is a great comfort trope for many readers so I really wanted to do is justice at @hprecfest. I’m reccing two of my favourite authors, and I just realized that’s two Snarry recs in a row (you’d think I read this ship every other day which is def not the case as I’m very picky - I can picture Writ laughing at this 😂). Incidentally, both fics are 9k which means everyone will have two nice short treats to check before the Christmas Eve chaos. Oh, I’ve also recced a Rarry soulmate fic here, highly recommend it as well. Enjoy!

The truth is, not many things are known about the magic that is behind soulmarks. They'll turn up when they want and not before. The truth is, you don't get a choice in your soulmark. The truth is, not everyone is okay with that.

what I really adore about this fic is that… they’re already there, right from the start. they fall for each other before Harry’s mark shows up (and of course it’s their first words to each other 🥺) and the lowkey angst comes from their sudden appearance and Draco’s not-so-receptive initial reaction to them. I say lowkey angst because the fic opens with such a gorgeous, intimate and tender lovemaking scene it’s impossible to believe they’re not already head over heels for each other - but learning that there’s someone “destined” for you out there brings implications and complications that Draco’s not yet ready to face. I love this take on the trope because that immediate panic and resistance to the whole soulmate concept is so relatable and raises a great question about predetermined x freely chosen love which I think it’s a fascinating and very mature discussion involving this trope.

A Universe of Searching Souls by @writcraft (Harry/Snape, E, 9k)

When the small, innocuous mark on Harry’s hip begins to cause him discomfort, he decides to go and visit the person who has a similar mark of their own. He’s fairly certain there must be some mistake, because the universe wouldn’t be daft enough to give Harry and Severus matching soul bond marks. Would it?

god help me, I’m so weak for Writ’s Snarry. this 9k fic actually feels longer thanks to the brilliant format and Harry’s compelling pov. I love the narrative style that highlights the passage of time through short (then not so short) vignettes covering Harry’s teenage and early adult years. he’s so lovely, earnest and tentative, a sharp contrast to this Snape who’s as insufferable and difficult - and therefore, perfect - as ever. I just reread this last night and am still howling at “I refuse to dismantle my wards for your stupid convenience Potter, you might as well stay the night” 😂 if you’ve read Writ’s other works you know their chemistry is deliciously addictive, charming and funny and full of blatant UST; the way Snape gets so easily undone by Harry’s eager honesty always gets me. for such a short story this is a masterclass in anticipation, and when they finally get there it’s hot af but also calm, intimate, familiar. definitely a must read!

jhsflaskhdh sooooo okay I've only been playing since november! so there are a lot of cards I've missed/havent even seen because....idk there's a lot of them and sure, I've gone and looked at my faves to see whats available but there's a lot of characters I haven't bothered looking at and

basically welcome to the kalim al-asim appreciation hour lmao

Jamil is actually my favorite boy, but I think a lot of his cards are kind of mid, and it's probably because he's one of the (many) characters they try to make, like, seductive looking, and. That doesn't really do much for me lol. I don't like Jamil because he's sexy, I like him because he always seems like he's one personal inconvenience away from killing everyone in this room and then himself. Objectively he's gorgeous but I actually like his live2D better than I like a lot of his cards, if that makes sense! (I actually had a laugh about his applepom card when it was announced because what are you DOING you doofus get off the GROUND you look like a FOOL!! The groovy is cute tho so it's fine haha)

And Kalim is not really a sexy-type character! He's just a plucky, fun-lovin' guy here to have a good time! That's usually the kind of character I gravitate to, so his cards are superior to me. (My top three boys are Jamil, Kalim and Ruggie, so Jamil is really the outlier haha)

anyway:

Pop music club Kalim!

Obviously since I just started playing, I missed this one and I'm devastated about it. All the pop music club cards are GREAT because their little battle sprites music the enemy to death and that's just amazing, but Kalim gets a grunge look and that seems made for me, specifically, because loving flannel is a native trait for my specific breed of lesbian. Combat boots too??? Thank you. I wish these cards had vignettes, I want to know who dressed him. (It was Cater.)

Tsumsitter Kalim!

Okay primarily I like the ungroovied version of this one (actually?? I usually tend to like the ungroovied versions better most of the time) because he is SO cute in it? His face?? Is adorable??? (Yknow how I said I like Jamil's Live2D better than his card art? Kalim ALWAYS looks more like Himself to me in card art and I dont think his Live2D ever really does him justice.) I have the same complaint everyone else does about the groovy, in that the lighting is weird and it makes them look unnecessarily pale. Otherwise it's alright! The TsumTsum events are very stupid but also very charming.

Playful Dress Kalim!

God I can't wait until we get this event in EN asfdskf at least I didn't miss playful land!!! They could give my man a break from the dropped-crotch pants now and then but otherwise this look is amazing.

Honorable mention to all of Ortho's cards, they all fuck unnecessarily, all the swimwear cards are a lot of fun (I also want this event in EN, it also looks stupid but charming), and I'm making one concession for Jamil's Birthday Jacket Groovy, it was his birthday and they let him commit one murder, as a treat, go off king, you deserve it (rip sebek):

Riddle x Malleus Fanart <3

My favourite twst ship, Riddle x Malleus! ❤️💚

I adore these two so much, and I've been dying to draw some art of them since I got into twst! Seriously underrated, these two have an interesting dynamic, and I love all the ways it could be explored.

Riddle's Ghost Bride vignette is my favorite vignette out of them all, the trust Malleus puts in Riddle to rescue everyone by the end of their talk speaks volumes, and I love how freely Riddle speaks around Mallues, clearly not fearing him but admiring his strength. He is surprised, in Malleus's birthday jacket vignette, when Malleus admits to his natural strength and abilities but in the same vignette still dares him to try and beat him for the leadership position of Heartslabyul. Because that layer of fear that others have isn't really there with Riddle, I feel like he would talk more freely with Malleus.

Riddle's admiration of Malleus is also really adorable, and Malleus seems to think pretty highly of Riddle in turn. I also think it'd be funny for Riddle to end up with someone who goes against his whole "I won't be with someone who can't arrive for things on time!" statement 🤣. Their personalities complement each other really well, and they have some good interactions, so I am surprised more people don't ship them!

Sorry for the ramble, I try to keep these descriptions short, but man, I could talk about these two for hours 😅.

In regards to the artwork itself, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out as it was my first real attempt at lineless art! Otherwise, the background is still kinda meh, I spent so long trying to figure out what to do, and everything just looked too simple or busy. I landed on this background, it still feels a Lil busy idk, I really spent way too long on this, so I just decided to go with it instead of fiddling with it any longer.

How is this the first time anyone's had the bright idea to try disguises?

Sokka's sarcasm coming dangerously close to breaking the fourth wall here. Some pretty strong lampshading.

(edit: going through this just before posting, I realised this line is pretty much a sarcastic thesis statement for this episode, maybe this season.)

This is too cute. This episode both Appa and Momo understand english.

Saviour of the World, everybody.

There must have been a Gang goes to the Mall episode I missed where Sokka and Katara bought their stealth cloaks.

Say what you like about the Fire Nation, they do have gorgeous architecture.

Katara perfecting non-verbal burns with the mask-switching.

Flaming Fire Flakes have the honour of filling this episode's Beat Up Sokka quota.

This is actually less violent than the actual Punch and Judy. Poor puppeteer has to sew a new earth kingdom soldier for every performance.

Dovebending!

I know Aang is characterised as fun and fun-loving, but maybe don't take off your disguise in the middle of a group of your enemies? Is this going to devolve into an "Aang is stupid" episode? Because we just did that last episode.

And now he's sulking because he missed the chance to be outed in front of the whole crowd? Aang has no brain this episode.

Of course the fire nation would have fireworks. I find it interesting that the more artistic methods of bending have survived a century of war. Unless there's a combat style where soldiers bend dragons at the enemy, you'd think that bending for fun and entertainment would have been condemned by now as useless to the advancement of the fire nation.

Raise your hand if you didn't see this coming.

I have very little patience for Idiot Aang, especially when his idiocy revolves around needing to be the centre of attention.

Appa just murdered those guys.

How did Sokka figure out that Chey was a fire nation soldier just from looking at his face? Everyone in this world so far is borderline faceblind, what with the number of times that our main three have passed unnoticed. And yet Sokka gets one look at this Chey guy and clocks him as fire nation? How? Chey doesn't have a different accent, or a giant F on his face, or even a helpful identifying Zuko scar.

"Some say he's mad. But he's not. He's enlightened." Regardless of what he is, this is not how you ought to sell him.

Why doesn't anyone ever listen to Sokka? He's always right when it counts: they did get clocked at the fire nation festival, the fortune teller was a crook, Jet was untrustworthy, Katara was going to get them in trouble with the pirates. Hasn't anyone in-universe noticed the pattern yet?

So Chey is a cross between a fanboy and that one awkward kid that no one likes, and Aang is this episode's idiot. But who are the hat guys? Are they like the third through ninth deserters from the fire nation? They don't seem anything like the people at the festival, so they aren't the locals.

Zhao the asshole is back. An idiot and an asshole this episode. I suspect this episode won't be a favourite.

Ever so fed up with having your good advice ignored that you involuntarily plank?

I have no idea if this deserter guy (NOT going to try to spell that one phonetically) actually has the ability to tell what disciplines someone knows by the way they walk, or if that's Chey's fanboyish tendencies coming out. But if it's true, being able to tell someone's abilities and skill level at a glance would be an incredible advantage in a fight. No wonder they promoted the guy a bunch.

And so rather than do the sensible thing as Sokka suggests and leave, Aang leans even harder into his idiot tendencies. Sigh. You should absolutely go talk to the firebender who just told you to fuck off by proxy. What could go wrong?

I'm grasping about 40% of this fish speech. On the other hand, I'm getting the discipline speech 100%. And agreeing with it too. This episode's whole opening vignette was about how Aang lacks self-discipline. Setting aside the fact that going to the festival was a bad idea in the first place, they could have attended unnoticed if Aang had mastery over himself. This deserter's got Aang clocked.

Do you get the feeling that this deserter's negative experiences with fire are perhaps colouring his view a little? He does make a good point though: mess up with airbending and someone has a bad hair day. Mess up with waterbending and someone gets wet. Mess up with earthbending and someone gets squished. Mess up with firebending and someone gets roasted. There's a bit of a jump in the seriousness of the mistakes between air/water and earth/fire. And we already saw Aang mis-bend water and send all their supplies down the river, so it's not like the deserter is wrong to think Aang's not ready. Plus, of all the elements, only fire does its own thing when you're not looking. I bet the very first thing firebenders learn is not how to make fire, but how to control/snuff out an external fire.

Love this visual. Roku's statement is true, which once again calls into question how much of Aang is a unique person as opposed to a conglomeration of previous avatars. But the deserter's right here - Aang doesn't have the self-discipline to learn fire right now. I don't know if learning water and earth first would get him that discipline, but it would certainly buy him a few more months of maturing.

If I had to be an army deserter on the run from an evil imperial power, this is certainly the place I'd choose to hide. So pretty.

Sokka isn't an oaf!

This is going to go so badly. This deserter guy is 100% right to start with the basics, but Aang is the opposite of a willing student. He's happy to learn, if they do it his way, which is jump straight to flashy fire and burn everybody's eyebrows off. Not to say the deserter is a good teacher - he's certainly not suited to Aang. But people strong armed by spirits generally don't bring their A game.

It seems to me like bending fire is almost more about leashing fire than using it.

Wasting his time? Didn't it take Aang his whole life so far to master airbending? And he thinks spending a couple of hours on the basics of firebending is wasting his time?

Dear Avatar writers: My comment about Aang burning everybody's eyebrows off was supposed to be facetious. Could you dial down Aang's idiocy this episode just a little bit please? Feeling really sorry for the deserter here.

This deserter's got sighing down pat. I get the impression that he's had decades of dealing with hotheaded idiot students.

Zhao was his student? That's a neat way of doing combined backstory and parallel story in the present. I thought it was a flashback but it's actually what's currently going on. Neat.

"Learn restraint or risk destroying everything you love." Good lesson even outside of a bending context.

This golden forest throughout this episode is absolutely gorgeous. Although it seems to be stuck in eternal sunset (not complaining).

I was right! Firebending lesson number one isn't making fire, it's leashing fire.

"But I'm ready to do so much more" Hell no you aren't. The fact that you say that with a straight face after A DAY of lessons proves you aren't.

You mean you failed the lesson. Congrats.

Hey look. Exactly what the deserter said would happen is happening. And so an innocent pays the price for Aang's hubris. Ain't that always the way?

Hell yeah Sokka. You tell him.

Here's a good lesson for Aang to learn, unfortunately at the expense of Katara's arms: sometimes sorry doesn't cut it. Since Katara's arms are injured, is she currently unable to bend? With the amount that her self-image is built around her bending, this is going to double suck.

Katara can auto-bend?!? Instinctively? That was lucky.

Hey deserter guy: while your insight into waterbending healing and the firebending mindset is certainly valuable to Katara and the audience, maybe a recently-burned teenage girl is not the best target for your talk therapy?

Master indeed. That's got to be the single most impressive firebending move yet. Look at that. That's one guy!

See Aang? If only you squatted a little lower, you'd be able to pull this off.

Aang still hasn't learned his lesson. Impulsively firebending should have taught him to be less impulsive. Instead it teaches him to make dramatic blanket prohibitions on firebending and throw himself head first at Zhao with no plan.

If Zhao is an admiral, and the deserter's former student, does that settle Chey's admiral/general debate on the side of admiral? Or do fire nation military branches do cross training?

Now it's Zhao having the hubris problems. Does he really think that 8 guys, only 4 (?) of whom are benders, can take down Mr. Firewall?

The way Zhao's voice actor delivers the line "until I got bored" very nearly redeemed his whole character. Suddenly not just an asshole, but a human too. Given how abrasive the deserter is, I'm almost sympathetic.

Who wins in the fight of Aang's hubris v. Zhao's hubris?

This is a very cool move. It seems that Aang only has hubris problems when he's trying to bend fire - he's back to his usual self when he bends air. Can the element have that much of an effect on the mindset?

I'm really liking this delightfully one-sided fight. Aang really redeeming himself for his early-episode idiocy.

This should not work on a well-adjusted adult.

"I don't know why, but I thought you'd be better than Zuko." Tragically, Aang has no idea how savage that line is.

"Jeong Jeong said you had no restraint" says the kid who, up until this scene demanded it, had no restraint. A stinger of a line that is undermined in context.

Literally.

How many outfits did Aang pack? Because air nomad tailors aren't exactly thick in the air these days.

Was that a whole camp of deserters? And they've all gone into hiding?

Getting the first fishhook out with a second fishhook: when logic goes too far.

Final Thoughts

Zhao really screwed up this time. He and his men are going to have to walk back to their ship.

Roku really screwed up this time. Katara wouldn't have been burned if Roku didn't intimidate the deserter into teaching Aang.

Chey really screwed up this time. If he hadn't brought Aang back to his camp, he'd still have a settlement to live in.

Aang really screwed up this time. If he hadn't insisted on both attending the festival and outing himself at it, he never would have led Zhao to the deserters' camp.

Just a thought: maybe spiritually bullying a scarred veteran into teaching combat basics is a bad idea?

I really want to like this episode. Beautiful setting. What Sokka and Katara stuff there is, is great. Appa and Momo even get a funny joke, and Appa gets to murder some people. And most importantly, the deserter is RIGHT. THE WHOLE TIME. And he was right to insist on not teaching Aang. Roku really blew it. Everything the deserter knew would happen if he taught Aang did happen, because he knows firebending, and he knows how students like Aang approach it (and let's be honest - he's not the right person to teach Aang anything). Now Aang's thrown up a mental block around firebending that will have to be surmounted no matter what he says he will or won't do. At least Katara uncovered a new skill.

I have not seen Apocalypse Now, but this is Apocalypse Now, right? In which case I know why Aang doesn't work for me this episode: he's in the wrong genre. This episode is actually quite serious. Chey may call the deserter enlightened, but Chey's an idiot. What the deserter is, is broken. He's another victim of the fire nation. He's also easily the most skilled firebender we've seen so far, with deep insight into at least part of the nature of his element (I say part because the episode itself suggests that his view is overly negative by having him point out the sun as a source of fire, which isn't inherently destructive - it just is). The deserter is a person you absolutely should listen to, saying things Aang absolutely should hear, albeit he says them rather harshly. But Aang is in peak kid's cartoon mode this episode, and the deserter (and most other characters actually) are in Vietnam-era War is Hell movie mode. It makes Aang jarring throughout, to the point that I was mad at him for most of the episode.

That being said, Aang almost (almost) completely redeemed himself in that last brilliant fight. 'Hoisted by his own petard' has got to be one of my top three favourite narrative devices, and that Zuko dig was the icing on the cake. As I said above, it's a goddamn tragedy that Aang doesn't have the necessary context to know how much that dig hit home. Then again, Sokka and Katara would probably appreciate it more than Aang. I feel like they're more appreciative of petty vindictiveness.

Speaking of Sokka, great to see the continuity from last episode's lesson: ride or die for Aang until it's family on the line. Sokka will gladly take Aang to the north pole until Aang steps between him and his father, at which point he's on his own. Sokka will gladly take Aang to the north pole until he hurts Katara, at which point Sokka will rub his face in the dirt. And, honestly? At that point of the episode, Aang's flaky hubristic 12 year old idiot side was so annoying to me that I was rooting for Sokka in that fight.

We know Aang's a bit of a softie, but someone who didn't know that just saw Sokka face down the Avatar for the sake of his sister. Takes courage.

It was also nice to see Sokka and Katara more united than usual in their opinions. While Katara was willing to give things a chance, neither of them was all that enthusiastic about anything that happened this episode. Usually Katara blindly follows Aang and blindly opposes her brother, so it was nice to see her more (not fully) aligned with both sense and Sokka.

It's not really touched on, but Aang really screwed things up for the various deserters. They weren't exactly comfortable where they were, but they seemed settled, safe, and provided for. Now they're presumably on the run. Oops.

If I could excise Aang from all but the last fight of this episode, it would be a serious contender for my favourite so far. But as I cannot excise him, this one is thoroughly middle of the pack. This episode had some serious stuff to say about the horrors of war from a perspective I defy you to find in any other kids' show, if only Aang would sit down and shut up for a minute.

Fic Rec Wednesday

Hey hey! So while I actually am hard at work on CO content for the Picture Book Project (several illustrations of the gang in third year for @captain-aralias’ amazing take on Simon Snow and the Third Gate), I have nothing that’s really ready for main in terms of sharing. Thanks to everyone who continues to tag me over these past weeks (I tag you all back under the cut for today, or Sunday or to share your own fic recs)! I do love to see what you all are working on even when I have nothing shareable.

I thought I might do a little fic rec post today instead, dedicated to one-shots that were posted in the mad rush of December that I love and think are a little underappreciated. There’s such a flood of amazing content during COC that it’s hard to keep up, and then once we move on to January, there’s still new amazing content coming out. As a result there are some real gems that folks may have missed out on. And so, here is a short (no doubt incomplete because I myself am still catching up) list of my fave hidden gems from December 2022.

And We Still Do by @facewithoutheart (T, 8K)

This is the fic that inspired me to write this post, actually, because I was discussing it with @facewithoutheart earlier and saying I can’t believe more folks haven’t read it. Anyway, it’s so great! The story includes a bunch of AU meet-cutes/meet-uglys framed by post-SFC Simon and Baz being fluffy and cute, with a bonus ACTUAL first time they met via the crucible. Each AU is a great little one-shot in itself and to quote the comment I left on AO3, “I loved them all, I would read a full fic of literally ANY of these”. (That is not actually a direct quote because I appear to have misspelled the word “would” somehow, but I digress.) You get post-canon fluff, a Boy Band AU, a Royalty AU, a couple of really neat canon-divergence AUs, and a combo Coffee Shop/Sci Fi AU all rolled into one, with amazing results. I think it’s brilliant like everything that comes from Christina’s mind and everyone should check it out.

Baby It’s Cold by @larkral (T, 2.6K)

This is a post-canon story told through a series of vignettes with Simon helping Baz accept something (something cold, maybe?) about himself in a really cute and creative way. It’s just really sweet, the prose is lovely as one knows to expect from this author, it gave me the warm fuzzies in a major way and guess what else? IT COMES WITH 3D LEGO ART. It’s short and sweet so you have no excuse not to check this one out folks.

Post-canon Brobelove! The age old mystery of whether tea actually can be served on Niamh’s thighs is solved! And just generally this is packed with excellent banter, excellent novelty mugs and excellent tea puns. Very fun!

Another Way We Match by @thewholelemon (M, 1.7K)

Gotta include some spice, amirite? This one is post-canon and packed with great dialogue and banter that pays homage to some of my favourite fanworks (This Will All Go Down in Flames by @facewithoutheart, Monsterfucker, Baby by @sillyunicorn and Property of Tyrannus by @starwarned and @seducing-a-vampire, to be specific) in the funnest way. Simon and Baz are doing sexy roleplay! Only all of Simon’s suggestions are causing Baz eye-rolling injuries. Really hilarious, sexy and also with the perfect amount of domestic fluff mixed in. I love me a sex scene full of funny dialogue and awkward moments, and this sure fits the bill.

I could go on and on with this list, only I’m supposed to be working instead of writing this post, so I’ll stop here for now. Hope you all check these out!

Ace being in the event does make a degree of sense, if you read his Fairy Gala vignette he was able to pick up on how to walk the catwalk just by watching Vil's instructions, so I am sort of curious if that will be brought up as the reason? And yeah the favoritism is so blatant it takes two other heavyweights in Azul and Jamil to knock him down a rarity, don't get me wrong I am not going to complain much as an aceyuu enjoyer but like... Jack really should have been an SR in the Stitch event. He's been in rarity jail for so long and his fans deserved to see the wolf man take his shirt off.

Based on our conversation the other day, because I love hearing what things you love, please list and describe your top 5 favourite moments in Twisted Wonderland so far (from the main plot or side events💜)

I am so excited to answer this, friend! I loved having our conversation together earlier this week as I am always ready to discuss Twisted Wonderland.

To clarify to everyone: I only play on the English server so I will only talk about those events. I'm also going to stick to the main story/events. Vignettes are an entirely separate list.

Also, spoilers for Twisted Wonderland!

My Top Five Favourite Moments in Twisted Wonderland

5. Leona being "volun-told" to help - Fairy Tale Gala

We start this list with an event story! Fairy Tale Gala is one of my most favourite events, mostly due to aesthetic and story. Leona is also one of my most favourite housewardens! So, naturally, this scene had to end up on my list!

What makes this scene so memorable to me is not just the humour of the situation. Of course, one aspect of Twisted Wonderland that is endlessly funny is how the housewardens (minus Kalim) don't jump to help others. This is especially funny in the Fairy Tale Gala as Leona is "volun-told" that he's the one picked to walk on the runway. I loved his grumpiness upon realizing that he has to go through with the plan.

4. How Yuu persuades Leona to help - Book 3

Another Leona centred scene! I love Yuu, post Leona's overblot, deciding "Yes, I'm not scared of Leona. Yes, this means I'm going to be the biggest, loudest nuisance possible until he agrees to help" is priceless. It also WORKS?? which makes it priceless. I can't even imagine what the rest of the dorm was thinking. They're recovering from Leona's overblot and now this? I bet everyone's relief that Leona agreed to help was palpable the following day. Though, Leona is a bit of a tsundere, so he was bound to help out anyways ahaha.

3. Rook delivering Vil's moisturizer/lotions - Book 6

I want everyone to know that this encompasses the entire set-up to the punchline of the joke which is "Rook flies halfway across the world to STYX, trespasses, and is nearly killed on sight all to give Vil his moisturizer/lotions." What adds to this punchline is Idia's entire reaction. The sheer humour of Rook going "Oh no, I'm not here to break my housewarden (boyfriend) out of STYX." and proceeds to reveal the truth of his visit? That's comedic gold.

Of course, Vil ends up using it to escape which Rook obviously knew he'd do. However, Rook left the breaking out to Vil and sincerely only came to give the product to Vil.

2. Yuu crashing into Octavinelle - Book 4

I love this scene because it's a stroke of luck/coincidence that Yuu gets Octavinelle involved. There is something about a character desperate for help only to receive it from their prior enemies that makes my happy. Especially when no one expects it. Easily, one of my favourite tropes. I know eventually all dorms help, but Octavinelle is one of the more antagonistic dorms in their book. That makes their decision to help Yuu out all the better for me.

Yuu finding out "Tsunotarou's" identity - Book 5

One of my all-time favourite trope is a dramatic identity reveal. I live for them, especially when the reveal happens in a moment of crisis. So, by far my most favourite scene in Twisted Wonderland is when Yuu finally learns the identity of Malleus.

As someone who loves Malleus, I was waiting with anticipation to how Yuu would discover the truth. Especially when I knew Malleus would arrive to watch the dance competition. The story did not disappoint me. The other's reactions to Yuu casually calling The Crown Prince to Briar Valley "Tsunotarou" lives rent free in my mind. I have replayed that scene multiple times and every time it makes me happy.

I would like to give my two cents on the Azul being jealous of Ruggie situation. Sorry in advance for my ramblings!

Azul puts a lot work into getting Jamil to like him, so I think it would hurt his pride to see someone else succeed without even meaning to. He is offering a way better deal than Ruggie, so why would Jamil refuse to accept his friendship? He may be a calculating bastard, but is Ruggie really that different, sucking up to people all the time for his personal gain? Surely Azul is simply not trying hard enough. Or maybe he just hasn't found the right approach yet. Kind of like that vignette where he lost a game of chance against Idia and as a solution he decided to get better at rolling the dice, instead of accepting that there are simply some things that he cannot control. And I agree that Jamil would get the brunt of it. If this is a game, he is both the opponent and the goal

Yeah, I agree with you, Anon! I feel like this is where Azul’s mind would immediately go to. He’ll have a horribly hard time accepting the fact that Ruggie is, in fact, better than him in Jamil’s mind, and just like you said, this is something that Azul can’t control. And frankly, the fact that Azul would want and try to control it is going to just make him look worse, because this is exactly the thing that Jamil doesn’t like about him. Oh, the irony……

Azul would spend so much time sitting in silence with an angry expression trying to figure out just what is it that he’s lacking but Ruggie, who is OBJECTIVELY WORSE IN EVERY ASPECT, miraculously has. Oh, they’re probably just trying to piss him off..!

Ortho is definitely best man, but he’s also the flower girl, the ring bearer boy, the father, and a lot of other things… he’s so excited, he couldn’t stop taking roles for himself!!

The tweels would definitely give Azul a headache with the fact that both of them apparently want to be best man lol Azul’s already super nervous about this whole thing, he spent so much time preparing everything and checking everything 1000 times over, and now at the very last minute (!!! THEY SEEMED FINE WITH IT BEFORE!!!) Floyd goes “hey, how come Jade’s your best man, that’s super unfair”. Azul’s face at that moment was absolutely priceless.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: no matter who Vil marries, Rook is always going to be there by his side, so there is no way he’s not with them in their honeymoon lol It’s just a matter of whether he’s open about it or not.

Sebek would find anything other than a missionary to be absolutely unacceptably disrespectful to his liege, because t-taking him from b-behind sounds just…!! Appalling!! (And way too hot for Sebek to even consider) But Malleus wouldn’t find doggie insulting at all. In fact, when he’s in the mood to get his tail stimulated and his horns played with, doggie is a much better option.

In general, Malleus likes hugging, kissing and being in full body contact with the person he has sex with, so his usual go-to is missionary. But the tail thing + the fact that Sebek looks so amusingly shocked when Malleus rolls on his stomach makes him consider doing it in the doggie position more often.

Hidden Gems by @fw00shy

I’ll never stop screaming about the masterpiece that is Phoenix in the Fire - not on this list but one of my top five favourite short fics ever - but when it comes to Fwoosh, suddenly I can’t find the words to covey the way her writing cuts me raw and deep. She’s hands down one of the most talented, daring and resourceful writers I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been around for a very long time. A master of short form, her unique and bold style steal my attention right away, her sharp dialogue and unbeatable world building make me sit straighter and forget whatever’s going on around me, her impeccable prose with perfectly chosen and well-placed words takes my breath away, her tender angst makes my heart break for pining Harry, her deliciously explicit, self-indulgent smut make me sweat like a whore in the church 🥵

As if that wasn’t enough, fwooshy’s range is really impressive and she always manages to deliver a long-lasting blow with any genre, any rating and any length, but especially under 3k. Basement Level 9 (M, 2k) - poignant and disturbing short story with dark!Draco and a resigned Harry who loves him, plus excellent dialogue and a brilliant Ron puzzling the pieces together, ugh so good 😔🤌🏼

You Either Fuck or You Get Fucked (E, 2k) - the ultimate enemies to lovers PWP with scorching hate sex, crude dirty talk and top notch banter, sharp and witty! I’m obsessed with this confident Harry and their sexy push and pull, thought I’d combust on site 🔥

10:47 am (T, 2.3k) - this series of short yet immersive slice-of-life vignettes are wonderfully original with vibrant multiple POV and such distinct character voices. One of the fics that best showcase Fwoosh’s genius writing

Big Hands (E, 4.5k) - Victorian AU with pianist rivals, yes please!!!! Incredible world building, delightful and on point humour, unbelievable ust, that basic hand kink we all deserve AND a piano sex scene as a treat, this is rich and sexy and the atmosphere is irresistible

in a rambling way (T, 7.5k) - probably the softest Fwoosh fic I’ve read so far, a gorgeous and wistful break up make up with lots of pining Harry, camping shenanigans and peak road trip romance. A must read!

Ron knocked Hermione up, and now Harry's got to figure out how to clone himself so that his friends don't split up fighting over him. Falling for Draco again was never part of the plan.

They Bought A Sports Bar (T, 2.2k) - another compelling femslash because yes, Fwoosh can write pretty much any ship. A fascinating take on Cho and amazing dialogue, love her subtle dynamics with this patient Ginny, and the idea of a sports bar is brilliant!

--- Diasomnia and Briar Valley aren't exactly known for sunshine and beaches, so taking the opportunity to wind down in the sun was enough motivation for Yuuri and Silver to take part in Tunas party. The day was quite fulfilling for the two, being able to pick and choose the activities as they went. However, the sun began to set and the chill of the evening was sinking in.

A few party goers suggested a bonfire to sing and enjoy food around as the final event of the day. Yuuri was delighted by the idea and so with Silvers company the two joined in on collecting wood and building the fire.

By the time everything was set up, Silver seemed to barely be awake. Having tried his best to be up most of the day he could no longer fight off the sleep. He yawned, "Yuuri, I'll save our spot here if you'd like to get something to eat." Having spent the last of their energy, it was no doubt the two needed some good refreshments. Yuuri nodded and went off towards the buffet.

It was quite crowded now as everyone seemed to be just as tired and ready to eat. Yuuri tried to break through the crowd, but decided it'd be better to just wait for the time being instead of fighting over food. Just as she was about to head back, she noticed Silvers soft sleeping figure. With an understanding smile, Yuuri grabbed one of the beach blankets from an empty spot. Sitting next to Silver she wrapped the blanket around them, getting comfortable near the fire. Maybe it was too hot for this, or perhaps it was just the blood rushing to her face. ---

I’m starved for ace content lol, I saw you updated your catace fic!! I was actually gonna ask if that one was abandoned when I saw you updated it lolol it’s so good I love catace. Ace is fairly good at reading people so like maybe he can tell something’s a little off about cater but caters gotten so good at hiding that ace is able to push it aside until they get close and ✨feelings✨ happen, I love the “oh fuck I like them” moments. Maybe ace is a little apprehensive bc cater is happy and open with anyone and feels cater isn’t sincere but he also doesn’t see the way cater is more gentle with his hugs or how he doesn’t hold anyone’s hands but aces, your honor i love them 😭

But do you have any catace headcanons to share or any headcanons really, I wish there was more basketball trio stuff bc they are my fave club they’re dynamics are so funny and I think they’d all be really cute together

Basketball club is also great bc they are so different like completely different backgrounds to play with and see how interaction turns out

Treyridoace I think is also an interesting interaction, I love your treyace and riddance interactions and I think the three together would be interesting too, I imagine there’s some good room for lots of angst lol, maybe ace feels a little left behind bc of Trey and riddles history? Or like he’s gonna be the last one left at nrc so I imagine he’d be real sad about that

Anyway I totally relate to the lack of good ace content 😭 I don’t mind reader inserts, I think a lot of them are really sweet but I also really want ace and canon character interactions that don’t completely butcher his character 😭 I really dislike when him and deuce get reduced to troublemaking idiots bc that’s so that they’re character, or when ace is a complete ass bc yes he can be a jerk but he’s also so friendly in his vignettes and the ones he appears in others and he like totally adores his upperclassmen like?? Babes I was honestly so stuck on how to answer this because it was like IDEAS but it was also like ideas.

Anyways first things first! Catace! I was procrastinating doing my assigments and I stumbled back into it and I was like oh yeah! Chap 3! But yeah! The both of them only showing their real sides to each other is my favourite thing ever and it's just so soft? Like idk i just love the both of them

Catace headcanons:

When they first went out they didn't tell anyone because they wanted to see if anyone would work it out' Turns out everyone thought they were fighting with each other because they both wouldn't publicly acknowledge the others existence because they didn't want to tip anyone off.

Due to the opposition of their taste pallets kissing is a 50/50 chance of either one of them jerking back because the other had eaten something salty or sweet.

Ace likes to sit on Cater's lap and do his makeup whilst cater likes to do Ace's nails when the younger is sat on lap watching a movie. It's therapeutic for the both of them.

When Ace gets jealous he either gets bratty or he starts crying, which either amuses Cater or makes him want to dig the other persons grave. When Cater gets jealous Ace just winces in sympathy for the poor soul flirting with him.

Basketball club! Honestly it still pisses me off that we don't get a personal story from their club cards because what I would pay to see a normal day in that club is unreal.

Floyd and Jamil enjoy teasing Ace way too much but the moment they sense someone else do it they wrap their arms real tight around Ace. Ace fears for his life eveytime Floyd's arms wrap around him.

One time Ace faked crying to see what they would do. He still cackles when he sees the fear in their eyes as they realise they made him cry (one time they did make him cry and he didn't talk to them for a week. After that they shower him in more praise and gifts)

Datenights either consist of movies, walking across the beach or cooking. It has varying results of sucess.

Treyridoace is honestly just Ace and struggling to deal with authority figures lmao. Trey has a lot of fun teasing them both because they are both so gullible it's painful. Riddle enjoys teasing Ace and pushing his buttons because it's fun to see Ace riled up and blushing, and still managing to succeed in whatever Riddle teased him about. Ace at first didn't do much in terms of teasing and the 3 had a long discussion about power dynamics and all agreed that punishment wouldn't change from when before Ace was even in the relationship.

Self-insert for me is tricky because so far all the one's I've found make Ace unbearable or the bad guy in one way or another. Few of them are in a way I like to characterise him and I've seen some of the others x reader and it's actually universal how badly Ace's character gets treated whenever it's x reader or with a character shorter than him. That's why I maily stick with x canon and stick with floyd and them lot because despite how cripilingly low there are fics of them, at the very least I can enjoy them without feeling icky inside.

dairy whiskey – update 05 – i finished the book!

feels so weird to say this, but this is the last update for dairy whiskey – the litfic novel for messed up people (aka me and my pals)

the stats, the facts:

i finished writing this book on 28/06/2023 around 4:00 am

the first draft rests at 76,684 words

this book has ten chapters and ten vignettes

i am deeply sorry to dinah for all the pain i’ve caused her

i miss this book so much already that i cannot sit a minute without thinking about it

i am officially a wreck. a proud one regardless.

i’ve got two excerpts to share from this chapter. they’re super no-context, you know the drill.

The door to the room had been open, so I stumbled in, rosary in hand. Safety pins were scattered on the bed, some of them bent from pressure. The windowpane and the tiles next to it were covered in talcum powder. On the dressing table were two glasses of black coffee, its dry stain in rings on the bottom of it. It smelled of sweat and American body mist. One of the two pillow covers had been burned with an iron box, leaving an eye-shaped hole in the middle. Curly hair patterned the floor. Among those, like the promised silver lining in a dark cloud, I found it – a white strand of hair, thin, wavy, and membraned in cobwebs.

welcome back, grandma. bye again.

the next excerpt is another one of the thousand melodramatic emotional experiences that dinah goes through.

Nothing made noise. Every lone thing that had been alive and blooming in the village had died. Every land was barren, every river was flooding, every beautiful thing had turned to dust. Every face only a blur and every sound, a cry for help. Everything bleak and bleached, everything lost. Everything was gone and yet, the lives of everyone else remained the same; remained unchanged. Every family untouched but mine. All of them fortunate but mine. Everybody in their nests but me, a raven, flying about the village with a song in its head. It had come from nowhere, cutting through my silence, and it would stay forever as a muffled hum. A somber cry.

it actually runs a bit longer but yeah. that will be it for now.

teeny tiny excerpt from this one because i can never really shut up.

Mist covered the plantation and the road to the house. It rested in like a chiffon skirt.

vignette nine – vortex of wrath

we’re back with austin vignettes and pretty pretty prose for this pretty pretty boy.

Austin has been both abyss and mirrorball, but today, he is reborn in dirt. He is human more than he is boy. More than an accumulation of lessons and silences forced into place. Today, he is free, his wings unclipped, his fire unleashed. Today, he is lover. His ribs are knives sharpened against the metallic ring of revenge. His hands, mapped with fury, make love with sin. Today, he is man more than he is son. He is tide. He beats against the shore. Today, he takes in a sweep.

this goes on for another half an hour (more or less) because austin is everybody’s favourite and he deserves the world.

chapter ten – wine hearts

only one excerpt from this chapter too.

I woke up in the afternoon with pain piercing through my head. I sat up in bed, clutching chunks of hair in my fists. I buried my head in the pillow and groaned, but the pain remained. I got up and went to the bathroom. I turned the shower on and stood under it, the water, cold despite the sun, falling on my skin. My skin melted under it like a glacier, heat escaping every pore that had trapped it in. I lathered shampoo into my hair and soap onto my skin. I washed myself clean, brushed my teeth, and dried my hair with a towel. I wiped my body with another and changed into a fresh pair of clothes – an olive-green T-shirt and a creme long skirt.

also runs longer and talks about more things dinah does that are… ahem… unfortunately relevant to the (no) plot.

vignette ten – the beginning and the end

so, this is a vignette i might actually take out. i like how the story ends without it and kinda feel like this doesn’t fit that well, but we’ll see about that next month when i sit down for edits.
